IB Physics Tutor in Nad Al Hamar

An IB physics tutor in Nad Al Hamar is usually wanted at one of two moments: when the internal assessment deadline appears, or when the first DP2 mock comes back lower than the classwork suggested. This page works to the calendar, setting out what each stretch of DP1 and DP2 can still achieve in physics. Teaching is one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time, never at a UAE address.

  • The four physics internal assessment criteria explained with their mark allocations
  • Uncertainty and graph linearisation treated as the arithmetic they are
  • A DP2 countdown that says what belongs in each stretch of weeks
  • Online one-to-one on Gulf Standard Time; home visits are India-only

Physics marks move on a timetable, not on effort

There are two distinct physics problems and they arrive at different points in the Diploma calendar. The first is the internal assessment, a single piece of independent investigative work carrying twenty per cent of the grade, which appears in the spring of DP1 or the autumn of DP2 depending on the school and is almost always underestimated. The second is the examination papers, where capable students lose marks not on physics but on uncertainties, graph handling, command terms and the arithmetic that physics wraps around itself.

Each problem has a window. The internal assessment is decided at the point the research question is chosen, because a question that cannot generate a sufficient range of data, or whose relationship is linear and therefore trivial to analyse, caps the available marks before a single measurement is taken. Fixing that takes an hour in the week the question is being chosen. Fixing it after the data has been collected takes a repeat of the whole investigation, which schools rarely permit and students rarely have time for.

The examination problem has a longer window and a harder floor. Content that was never understood in DP1 can still be rebuilt in the autumn of DP2. By February the honest work is technique: uncertainty propagation, linearising a relationship to test it, reading command terms properly, and the discipline of carrying units and significant figures through a multi-step calculation. Those are worth a great deal and they are not the same as learning more physics.

Nad Al Hamar is a residential district on the eastern side of Dubai, between the Ras Al Khor sanctuary and the Dubai-Al Ain Road, whose children travel out to schools in Festival City, Mirdif, Al Warqa, Al Qusais and Academic City. There is no Diploma school in the district and almost no chance of a resident Higher Level physics specialist. Searching by distance returns a list of generalists; the subject needs somebody who has marked a data-analysis section against the published criteria.

Teaching is one-to-one over live video, on Gulf Standard Time, at a fixed weekly hour. IB Gram does not offer home visits in Dubai or anywhere else in the UAE, because home tutoring is a service we run in India only. For physics specifically the online format has a concrete advantage beyond availability: graphing software, uncertainty calculations and a student's own data set sit on a shared screen where both people can work on them, which a kitchen table cannot reproduce. What follows is the assessment taken apart component by component, the four internal assessment criteria with their mark allocations, the DP2 countdown stretch by stretch, uncertainty handling in full, the mathematics physics assumes, and what physics help actually costs in this market with every figure attributed to whoever published it.

DPAges 16-19 · DP1 and DP2

Diploma Programme physics

Higher and Standard Level, with a shared core and additional Higher Level material. Assessment is through written papers plus a single internal investigation worth twenty per cent of the grade. Paper 1 includes a multiple-choice section and a data-analysis section; Paper 2 is extended response. Confirm the current weightings with your teacher, since the subject guide is revised.

Diploma schools serving the eastern suburbs set their internal assessment deadlines well before the IB upload window, and the dates differ between the Festival City and Mirdif clusters by a fortnight or more. That makes the school's own calendar, rather than any published IB date, the thing a physics plan has to be built against.

MYPAges 11-16 · MYP 1-5

Middle Years sciences

Assessed against four criteria, with criterion B, inquiring and designing, and criterion C, processing and evaluating, doing most of the work that later becomes the Diploma internal assessment. A student who has written genuine MYP science investigations is substantially better prepared for DP physics than one who has followed worksheets.

Eastern-suburb IB continuum schools run MYP sciences as integrated courses before splitting into separate Diploma subjects. The practical consequence is that a student can arrive in DP1 physics with strong general science grades and no experience of the specific quantitative handling that physics demands.

TransitionAges 15-16 · The summer between

IGCSE physics into DP physics

The step is in the mathematics and in the treatment of uncertainty rather than in the physics. IGCSE physics rarely demands uncertainty propagation, logarithmic graphing or the algebraic rearrangement that DP questions assume. Six weeks of targeted bridging work before DP1 removes most of the first-term difficulty.

Families here often travel for a long summer, which makes a bridging block awkward in person and straightforward over video. Two sessions a week for six weeks, aimed at rearrangement, units, uncertainties and graph work, is the highest-value physics spend in the whole sequence.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

Physics divides into content areas and into skills that cut across all of them. These are what a physics tutor should be able to take apart by name.

Mechanics and kinematics

HL and SL

Motion, forces, momentum and energy. Usually the strongest area for Dubai students because it is the most familiar from IGCSE, and the place where a student's confidence is set for the rest of the course. Marks go to sign conventions and to treating momentum problems as energy problems.

Thermal physics

HL and SL

Specific heat capacity, latent heat, the gas laws and the kinetic model. Short, heavily examined and routinely under-revised. Errors cluster around unit conversion and around assuming a process is isothermal when the question has not said so.

Waves and oscillations

HL and SL

Simple harmonic motion, superposition, standing waves, diffraction and interference, with additional Higher Level material. Phase relationships are the persistent difficulty, and students who can reproduce the formulae frequently cannot say what is happening physically.

Electricity and magnetism

HL and SL

Circuits, fields, electromagnetic induction and at Higher Level more demanding field work. The area most often named by parents as the problem, and usually it is a circuit-reasoning problem rather than a formula problem: students cannot say what happens when a component changes.

Fields and gravitation

Mostly HL

Gravitational and electric field strength, potential, orbital motion and escape conditions. Mathematically the most demanding part of the Higher Level course, and the clearest case of physics marks being lost to algebra rather than to physics.

Nuclear and quantum physics

HL and SL

Radioactive decay, binding energy, the photoelectric effect and at Higher Level more detail. Heavy on definitions that must be stated precisely, which makes command-term discipline worth more here than almost anywhere else in the course.

Uncertainties and error treatment

All levels, examined and internally assessed

Absolute, fractional and percentage uncertainty, propagation through sums and products, uncertainty bars on graphs and the uncertainty in a gradient. Not a topic the course lists prominently and the single most recoverable source of lost marks in the subject.

Graph handling and linearisation

All levels

Rearranging a relationship so that a straight-line graph can test it, then extracting a physical quantity from the gradient or intercept. Appears in the data-analysis section and in the internal assessment, and is a mathematics skill that physics teaching often assumes rather than teaches.

The internal assessment

Compulsory, both levels

One independent investigation, marked against four criteria of six marks each, carrying twenty per cent of the final grade. Research design and data analysis carry most of the risk, and the mark ceiling is effectively set by the research question.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three physics arrangements keyed to the calendar, all one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time.

Research question screening

One or two sessions at the point the internal assessment question is being chosen, aimed only at whether it can generate a sufficient range of data and a relationship worth analysing. The cheapest high-leverage physics spend there is, because a weak question caps the mark before any measurement is taken.

  • Tests whether the independent variable can be varied enough to matter
  • Checks that the expected relationship is not trivially linear
  • Confirms the uncertainty in the measurements is manageable rather than dominant
  • Delivered before data collection, which is the whole point

Autumn DP2 content rebuild

Eight to twelve weeks on the content areas that are genuinely not understood, most commonly fields and electromagnetic induction at Higher Level. This is the last point in the Diploma calendar at which physics content can be rebuilt rather than merely revised.

  • Diagnostic from the DP1 end-of-year paper before anything is taught
  • Sequenced by what the mock will test, not by syllabus order
  • Ends before the mock window on a stated date
  • Handover note naming what is now secure and what is not

Technique block before the session

The final eight to ten weeks, aimed at uncertainties, graph linearisation, command terms and unit discipline rather than at content. Delivers more marks than additional content teaching at this stage, and is measurable from one past paper to the next.

  • Uncertainty propagation drilled until it is automatic
  • Linearisation practised across unfamiliar relationships
  • Command terms underlined before any answer is written
  • One full paper a fortnight, marked and categorised by error type

01

What the physics assessment is actually made of

Physics at both levels is assessed through written papers plus one internally assessed investigation. The investigation carries twenty per cent of the grade and is marked by the school against four criteria before being moderated. The written papers include a multiple-choice section, a data-analysis section and an extended-response paper, with additional material examined at Higher Level. Exact weightings are set in the current subject guide, which is revised, so confirm them with your teacher rather than with a tutoring page.

What matters more than the weightings is that these components fail students in different ways. The multiple-choice section punishes shaky definitions and sign conventions, because there is nowhere to show reasoning and partial credit does not exist. The data-analysis section punishes students who have never processed their own uncertainty-bearing data, which is a surprising number given that they have all done practical work. The extended-response paper punishes command-term blindness and poor algebra more than it punishes gaps in physics.

The investigation fails earlier than any of them, at the research question. A question whose independent variable cannot be varied across a useful range, or whose relationship is a simple proportionality that needs no real analysis, puts a ceiling on the data analysis criterion and therefore on the total. Students choose questions for interest and availability of equipment, which are reasonable criteria and not the ones the marking rewards.

The practical reading for a parent is that physics support should be bought for a named component rather than for the subject. A student losing marks on the data-analysis section and a student losing marks on extended response need different sessions, and a tutor should be able to say which from a marked paper in a few minutes.

The four internal assessment criteria, with their marks

The physics internal assessment is marked against four criteria, each worth six marks, giving twenty-four before any scaling. Naming them matters because students work on the wrong one. Research design covers the question, the methodology and the control of variables. Data analysis covers the processing, the treatment of uncertainty and the graphing. Conclusion covers the interpretation of the result against accepted physics. Evaluation covers the critique of the method and realistic improvements.

Research design is where the mark ceiling is set. A question must be focused and must permit genuine variation of an independent variable across a range wide enough for a relationship to emerge above the noise. Students lose marks for vague questions, for ignoring variables that obviously need controlling, and for methodologies that cannot actually produce the data the question demands. All of that is fixable in one session held before the laboratory work, and effectively unfixable afterwards.

Data analysis is where the most marks are routinely lost by students who did everything else well. It requires uncertainties carried through the processing rather than quoted at the end, uncertainty bars on the graph, a gradient with its own uncertainty, and enough processing to test the relationship rather than merely display the data. A student who plots raw data with no uncertainty bars has given away a large share of six marks regardless of how good the experiment was.

Conclusion and evaluation are shorter and more tractable. Conclusion needs the result compared against accepted physics with reference to a source, and a statement about whether the uncertainty permits that comparison to be meaningful. Evaluation needs specific weaknesses with specific improvements, not a list of generic limitations. A tutor can teach both directly, because they are forms of writing about evidence rather than physics content.

The DP2 physics countdown, stretch by stretch

Counting backwards from the May session, physics has a clear shape. The last six to eight weeks are for timed papers and error correction, with uncertainty and graph technique drilled because those are the most recoverable marks at that point. New content learned in this stretch rarely reaches a paper, and a provider selling content recovery in April is selling something they cannot deliver.

The stretch from the mock window to the spring break is for acting on the mock. The marked script tells you which of four things is happening: content not known, content known but misapplied, arithmetic and uncertainty errors, or command terms misread. Those four need different sessions, and a parent who reads the grade rather than the script will buy the wrong one. This is also the stretch in which the internal assessment must be finished if it is not already.

The autumn term of DP2 is the last content window. Fields, electromagnetic induction and the quantitative Higher Level material are the usual candidates, and they can genuinely be rebuilt here. It is also when the internal assessment deadline typically lands, which is why this term is overloaded and why doing the design work in DP1 matters so much. Two things competing for the same eight weeks is how capable students lose marks in both.

DP1 is where the leverage is and where almost nobody buys help. The research question gets chosen in the spring. The habits that determine whether a student carries uncertainties properly get set in the first term. The algebra that physics assumes can be repaired cheaply before it becomes a physics problem. An hour a week in DP1 is worth several hours a week in DP2, and it costs the same per hour.

04

Uncertainties: the physics that is really arithmetic

  • Absolute uncertainties add for sums and differences; fractional for products and quotients
  • A power multiplies the fractional uncertainty by the exponent
  • Uncertainty bars and a gradient uncertainty are what make a comparison with accepted physics meaningful
  • Linearise before plotting; the gradient is usually what the question wants
  • Round once at the end, to figures justified by the least precise measurement

Uncertainty handling is the most recoverable source of lost marks in IB physics and the least systematically taught. The content is small. Absolute uncertainty is the raw spread on a measurement. Fractional and percentage uncertainty is that spread relative to the value. Uncertainties add in absolute terms when quantities are added or subtracted, and add in fractional terms when quantities are multiplied or divided. A power multiplies the fractional uncertainty by the exponent. That is nearly the whole of it.

Where students fail is in carrying it through. A student computes a value from three measurements, quotes it to five significant figures, and then appends an uncertainty invented at the end. Another plots a graph with no uncertainty bars and extracts a gradient with no uncertainty, which removes any basis for saying whether the result agrees with accepted physics. Both are mechanical failures and both are fixed by drilling rather than by explanation, which is why frequency beats depth in these sessions.

The second half of the same skill is linearisation. A relationship that is not linear can be rearranged so that a straight-line graph tests it, and the physical quantity then comes from the gradient or the intercept. Period against length is not linear; period squared against length is. Students who have only ever plotted what the worksheet told them to plot cannot do this with an unfamiliar relationship, and the data-analysis section asks exactly that.

Significant figures and units are the third part and are worth a surprising number of marks across a paper. The rule is to work to full precision throughout and round once, at the end, to a number of figures justified by the least precise measurement. Units must be carried, including through rearrangement, because a dimensionally wrong answer is marked as wrong even when the arithmetic was right. A thirty-second check at the end of each question, practised until automatic, is the whole remedy.

05

Practical work, and how physics tutoring handles it online

A fair question from parents: if physics is a practical subject, how does a video session help. The answer separates the parts of practical work that need apparatus from the parts that do not. Taking the measurements needs apparatus and happens at school, under supervision, as it must. Everything surrounding it, designing the method, deciding the range and the number of repeats, processing the data, propagating uncertainties, plotting, linearising, extracting a gradient and writing the evaluation, is desk work.

Desk work is where almost all the marks live, and it is where a shared screen beats a kitchen table. The student's own spreadsheet, their own graph and their own uncertainty calculations are open in front of both people, and the tutor can annotate them in place. Graphing software can be driven jointly. A gradient uncertainty can be worked through twice. None of that requires anybody to be in the room, and the written record survives the session in a way a conversation over a notebook does not.

For the examination's data-analysis section the practical dimension is entirely absent anyway: the student is handed somebody else's data and asked to process it. That is a desk skill being assessed as a desk skill, and it is the single most trainable part of the physics papers. Students who have only processed data from their own tidy experiments find unfamiliar data unsettling, and the remedy is volume of unfamiliar data sets.

Where a video session genuinely cannot help is apparatus familiarity, and that gap should be named rather than glossed. A student who has not handled the equipment will write a method that cannot be executed. The fix is the school's laboratory, not a tutor, and a good tutor will tell a student to go and try the method before writing it up rather than pretend the design can be perfected from a desk.

06

The mathematics inside physics, and the course pairing that matters

A sizeable share of what parents report as a physics problem is a mathematics problem wearing a physics label. Rearranging a formula with the unknown in a denominator. Handling indices and standard form under time pressure. Working with logarithms when a relationship is exponential. Resolving vectors. Using small-angle approximations. Differentiating or recognising a rate of change in a kinematics context. Each of these is examined inside physics questions and taught, if at all, in mathematics lessons.

The practical consequence is that a physics tutor who cannot teach the mathematics will plateau. A student who understands electromagnetic induction conceptually and cannot rearrange the resulting expression will score as though they understood nothing. Conversely a student with secure algebra often finds Higher Level physics tractable even when the concepts are unfamiliar, because the questions reward correct manipulation of a stated relationship.

This feeds the course-pairing question families ask in Year 11. Physics at Higher Level alongside Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation is possible and is harder than it looks, because the algebraic fluency that physics assumes is exactly what Applications and Interpretation trims. Physics at Higher Level alongside Analysis and Approaches is the natural pairing and the one most engineering and physical-science degrees expect in some combination. Check the specific requirements on the specific university course page rather than relying on a general rule.

For a student already in the awkward pairing, the remedy is narrow and achievable: a block of sessions on rearrangement, indices, logarithms and vector resolution, taught for physics rather than for mathematics. Six to eight hours removes most of the handicap, and it is a far cheaper intervention than a term of general physics support that keeps running into the same wall.

07

What physics help costs, priced by what you are fixing

Price the problem rather than the subject. A research question screening session is one or two hours and sits at the top of the value table because it protects a share of twenty per cent of the grade. An uncertainty and linearisation block is four to six hours and recovers marks across every paper. A content rebuild in fields and induction is eight to twelve weeks. A final technique block is six to eight weeks. Those are four different purchases and families tend to buy the last one only.

The market figures, each published by the provider named and read in October 2026: a qualified subject tutor online is quoted at AED 150 to 300 an hour, with Unitors publishing IB from AED 200. IB specialists run AED 200 to 450 and above, with TutorChase at AED 270 and Bestimate's table showing AED 200 to 450 plus. Premium named tutors reach AED 500 to 650 and more, with BartyED at AED 650. Budget online platforms advertise from AED 33 to 65, with Tutopiya from AED 33 to 52 and EdFlik from AED 45 to 65.

In-home visits in Dubai are quoted at AED 180 to 500 an hour once travel is absorbed, with Bestimate at AED 180 to 350 and independent home tutors asking AED 200 to 500. Bestimate's monthly estimates for a weekly one-hour arrangement are AED 240 to 600 at the budget end, AED 600 to 1,200 in the middle and AED 1,000 to 2,000 or more for an examination-year specialist. For a Higher Level physics specialist in the weeks before a session, expect the upper part of those bands.

Matching tier of tutor to task is where the saving is. Uncertainty drilling and timed-paper marking do not require a specialist at the top of the range. Research question screening and Higher Level field work do. Buying the premium tier for everything is the commonest overspend in this market, and no agency will point it out. IB Gram does not post a fixed hourly rate on these pages; the trial is forty-five minutes, costs nothing, takes no card details, and is where a real number is given.

The honesty line on an investigation, and what we refuse

The physics internal assessment is the student's own work and the school attests to it. That makes the boundary on help a matter of the candidate's exposure rather than ours. A malpractice finding falls on the student and can cost them the diploma, and at least one site ranking for these searches sells completed internal assessments outright. We do not, at any price, and we say so to the student in the first session rather than leaving it implied.

What a physics tutor may do is substantial. Teach the content the investigation requires. Explain what each of the four criteria rewards and how the six marks are distributed within it. Discuss whether a proposed research question can generate usable data, which is advice about feasibility rather than about content. Demonstrate a complete worked analysis on an entirely different data set so the student can see what good processing looks like. Read the student's own draft and ask questions: why this range, what justifies that number of repeats, where does this uncertainty come from, does the conclusion follow from the gradient.

What a tutor may not do is choose the question, design the method for the student, process the student's data, write or rewrite any section, or edit the draft into shape. The difference between the two lists is whether the intellectual work is the student's. A useful test: if the student cannot explain every line of their own write-up to their teacher without hesitation, the help went too far, and that is a problem for them rather than for us.

We also do not supply syllabus documents, past papers, mark schemes or grade-boundary tables as downloads. They belong to the IB, the official sites publish what is public, and your child's school has proper access to the assessment material. A tutor working from that material inside a session is ordinary practice. A site hosting a download library of it is distributing someone else's property.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

    Say which component is failing

The multiple-choice section, the data-analysis section, extended response or the internal assessment. Those four need different sessions, and a marked paper lets a tutor identify the one that matters in a few minutes.

  2. 02

Send the marked script or the draft

For an examination problem, the marked paper. For the investigation, whatever exists, even if it is only a research question on a line of paper. The earlier the question is seen, the more can be done about it.

  3. 03

Check which stretch of the calendar you are in

DP1 autumn, DP1 spring, the summer, DP2 autumn or the final block. Each supports different physics work, and we will say when something you are asking for belongs to a window that has closed.

  4. 04

Trial lesson, forty-five minutes, live online

Real physics with the script or the draft on a shared screen, no card details collected. Afterwards you get a written note naming the component, the skill and the habit the tutor would work on first.

  5. 05

Measure by error category, not by grade

Count the marks lost to uncertainty handling, to command terms, to algebra and to content. If the largest category is not shrinking after four weeks, the approach changes. Those counts are visible to a parent without any physics.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

The investigation treated as the deadline it is

Twenty per cent of the grade, four criteria of six marks each, and a ceiling set at the research question. We screen questions before data exists, which is the only point at which that ceiling can still be raised.

Uncertainties taught as a skill

Propagation, uncertainty bars, gradient uncertainty and linearisation drilled until they are automatic. These are the most recoverable marks in the subject and the least systematically taught part of it.

Mathematics inside physics addressed directly

Rearrangement, indices, logarithms and vector resolution taught for physics rather than for mathematics. A student in the Applications and Interpretation pairing can be substantially helped by six to eight hours of this alone.

Online, and better for data work

The student's own spreadsheet, graph and uncertainty calculations open on a shared screen where both people can work on them and the annotated version survives. Home visits are an India-only service for us, and for data analysis the screen is the superior tool anyway.

Priced by the problem, not by the subject

Four distinct purchases, each with an hour count, a tutor tier and an indicative cost taken from published market figures read in October 2026. Buying the premium tier for timed-paper marking is the standard overspend here.

A line on investigations we state out loud

Content, criteria, feasibility advice, a worked analysis on different data, and questions on the student's own draft. Never the question, the method, the processing or the writing. The candidate carries the risk and therefore the benefit.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Nad Al Hamar: your questions answered

How is the IB physics internal assessment marked, and what is it worth?+

Against four criteria, each worth six marks, giving twenty-four before scaling, and it carries twenty per cent of the physics grade. The criteria are research design, data analysis, conclusion and evaluation. Research design sets the ceiling, because a question whose independent variable cannot be varied across a useful range limits what the analysis can show. Data analysis is where most marks are lost by students who did the experiment well, usually through plotting raw data with no uncertainty bars and extracting a gradient with no uncertainty attached.

Our physics research question is already chosen and the data collected. What can still be done?+

The analysis, the conclusion and the evaluation, which between them carry eighteen of the twenty-four marks, so a great deal. Uncertainties can be propagated properly, the data can be linearised so the relationship is tested rather than displayed, a gradient can be given its own uncertainty, the result can be compared against accepted physics with a cited source, and the evaluation can be made specific rather than generic. What cannot be fixed is a question that could never generate usable data, which is why screening belongs before collection.

Why is our child strong in physics lessons and weaker in physics exams?+

Usually one of three things, and a marked script tells you which. Uncertainty handling, where the physics is right and the treatment of error is absent or invented at the end. Command terms, where explain, deduce, outline and justify are all answered as though they said describe. Or algebra, where the concept is understood and the rearrangement under time pressure is not. All three are technique rather than content, all three are recoverable in weeks, and none of them is addressed by covering more syllabus.

What exactly does uncertainty propagation require us to do?+

Add absolute uncertainties when quantities are added or subtracted, add fractional uncertainties when they are multiplied or divided, and multiply the fractional uncertainty by the exponent when a quantity is raised to a power. Then carry that through the whole calculation rather than appending something at the end, put uncertainty bars on the graph, and give the gradient its own uncertainty. That last step is what makes a comparison with accepted physics meaningful, and most students omit it.

Can physics really be tutored without apparatus in the room?+

The measurements need apparatus and belong at school under supervision. Everything else is desk work: method design, deciding range and repeats, processing, uncertainty propagation, plotting, linearising, extracting a gradient and writing the evaluation. That is where almost all the marks are, and a shared screen with your child's own spreadsheet and graph open on it is better for that work than a kitchen table. The data-analysis section of the examination hands students somebody else's data, which is pure desk skill.

When in DP1 should we start thinking about the physics investigation?+

By the spring, and earlier if your school's internal deadline is early, which in the Festival City cluster it tends to be. The research question is the single decision that caps the mark, and screening it takes an hour. Ask the physics teacher when the question has to be agreed, then plan a session for the fortnight before that date. Students who leave it until the DP2 autumn are choosing a question in the same term as the write-up deadline, with everything else in six subjects happening at once.

Is Higher Level physics possible alongside Maths Applications and Interpretation?+

Possible and harder than it looks. Physics at Higher Level assumes sustained algebraic fluency, logarithmic handling and vector work, and Applications and Interpretation trims exactly that material in favour of statistics and modelling. A student in that pairing is not disadvantaged conceptually but is handicapped mechanically. Six to eight hours on rearrangement, indices, logarithms and vector resolution, taught for physics rather than for mathematics, removes most of the handicap and is far cheaper than a term of general physics support.

Which physics topics most often need rebuilding in the DP2 autumn?+

Fields and gravitation, and electromagnetic induction, at Higher Level. Both are mathematically demanding and both arrive at a point in DP1 when students are still adjusting to the course, so they are frequently half-learned. Thermal physics is a smaller but common one, usually under-revised because it is short. The autumn of DP2 is the last stretch in which any of these can genuinely be rebuilt rather than merely revised, and a provider offering content recovery in April is overpromising.

What does a physics specialist cost in Dubai close to the exams?+

Expect the upper part of the market bands. Qualified subject tutors online are quoted at AED 150 to 300 an hour, IB specialists at AED 200 to 450 and above, with TutorChase publishing AED 270, and premium named tutors at AED 500 to 650 and more, with BartyED at AED 650. Bestimate's monthly estimate for an examination-year specialist on a weekly hour is AED 1,000 to 2,000 or more. Those are other providers' published figures read in October 2026; we quote after a free trial.

Which schools near Nad Al Hamar offer Diploma physics?+

The Dubai Festival City cluster, including Deira International School and Universal American School Dubai, and the Mirdif belt, including Uptown International School, with other eastern-suburb schools taking students to IGCSE before a Diploma or A Level split. Whether a school runs physics at Higher Level in a given year can depend on cohort size, so it is worth asking the coordinator rather than assuming. Schools are named here as local context only, with no affiliation or endorsement implied.

Our child came from MYP integrated science rather than IGCSE physics. Does that matter?+

It changes what the first term needs. A student from MYP integrated science usually has better investigative instincts, because criteria B and C in MYP sciences rehearse exactly the design and processing the Diploma investigation asks for. What they often lack is the quantitative security that a separate IGCSE physics course builds: formula rearrangement, unit handling and the volume of numerical practice. A student from IGCSE physics has the reverse profile. Both are fixable in the DP1 autumn and cheaply.

How many physics sessions a week make sense in DP2?+

One during term time if the problem is a single content area or a technique gap, rising to two in the final eight to ten weeks when timed papers and their review both need hours. Beyond two the limiting factor becomes the student's own practice time, and a Diploma candidate carrying six subjects, Theory of Knowledge and an Extended Essay has less spare capacity than an hourly plan assumes. Start at one, measure the error categories, and add only if the measurement says to.

Will you help write up the investigation if we are short of time?+

No, and the refusal is in your child's interest rather than ours. We will teach the content, explain how the six marks sit within each criterion, advise on whether a question is feasible, demonstrate a full worked analysis on a completely different data set, and read your child's own draft and ask questions about range, repeats, uncertainty and whether the conclusion follows from the gradient. We will not choose the question, process the data, write a section or edit the draft. A malpractice finding falls on the candidate.

What should a first physics session produce for us?+

A named component, a named skill and a named habit. Not weak on electricity, but cannot reason about what happens to the current when one resistor changes; not careless, but appends an uncertainty at the end instead of propagating it. The tutor should also say what they would deliberately leave alone, because a plan to fix everything is a plan built on no diagnosis. What it should not produce is a predicted grade or a promised improvement, and a provider offering one is selling rather than teaching.

Screen the question early, then drill the uncertainties

Physics rewards two things that have almost nothing to do with effort. The first is choosing an investigation question that can actually generate usable data, which is an hour's work in the DP1 spring and impossible to fix after the measurements are taken. The second is carrying uncertainties and linearising properly, which is the most recoverable mark loss in the subject and is drilled rather than explained. Do those two and the content looks after itself. Teaching is one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time, matched on level and component rather than on distance from Nad Al Hamar.
