IGCSE Home Tutor in Nad Al Hamar

Hiring an IGCSE home tutor in Nad Al Hamar usually starts with a date rather than a subject: a mock week, an entry deadline, a results day that did not go well. This page lays the Year 10 and Year 11 calendar out month by month so you can see which weeks are still available to you. IB Gram teaches one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time; home visits are an India-only service and never happen at a UAE address.

IB & IGCSE in Nad Al Hamar

Two school years, and the weeks that are actually decisive

The IGCSE years look longer than they are. Year 10 begins in August with no external pressure and ends in June with a set of internal examinations that decide tier entries and set teacher expectations. Year 11 begins in August, meets a mock window after the winter break, and then runs into the examination series. Along the way there are entry deadlines that close months before any paper is sat, a timetable that differs by administrative zone, and a resit route through the following series that most families only discover on results day.

Counted properly, the decisive weeks are few. The autumn of Year 10 is when tier entry is still genuinely open, because the topics that separate the higher tier from the capped one, functions, graph transformations, circle theorems, the harder trigonometry and the sciences' quantitative content, take months to build rather than weeks. The spring of Year 11 is almost entirely examination technique, because by then the content has been covered once and the gap between what a student knows and what the paper awards is a technique gap.

The mock window is the most misread fixture in the two years. Mocks are set by the school, marked by the school, and are useful for one thing above all: they show which of four failure modes a student is in. Not knowing the method, knowing it and misapplying it, being accurate but slow, or misreading the question. Those four need four different responses, and a family that treats a disappointing mock as a general signal to buy more hours usually buys the wrong hours.

Nad Al Hamar adds a logistics layer rather than an academic one. This is a residential district on the eastern side of Dubai, bounded by the Ras Al Khor sanctuary and the Dubai-Al Ain Road, with no secondary school inside it. Children travel out to Dubai Festival City, Mirdif, Al Warqa, Al Qusais or Academic City, and come home between 3.50pm and 4.35pm on an ordinary day. A Year 11 student with nine or ten subjects does not have many usable evening hours, and a plan that ignores the arrival time is a plan that collapses in November.

What is on offer here is one-to-one teaching over live video, on Gulf Standard Time, at a fixed weekly hour. IB Gram does not offer home visits in Dubai or anywhere in the UAE, because home tutoring is a service we provide only in India. The in-home market in Dubai is real and priced in this page so you can judge the alternative properly, with rates attributed to whoever published them, and the practical case for the online version is made in a table rather than in adjectives.

At a glance

  • Entry deadlines close months before the papers, and the tier decision closes with them
  • Cambridge timetables differ by administrative zone, and using the wrong one is the centre's risk
  • Pearson Edexcel International GCSE runs May and June and November; Cambridge runs June and November
  • A November resit route exists, with results reaching students in January
  • Dubai in-home visits are quoted at AED 180 to 500 an hour against AED 150 to 300 for a qualified online tutor
IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Nad Al Hamar families come to IGCSE support at three different points in the two-year run, and the useful work is different at each.

Year 10Ages 14-15 · Year 10

IGCSE year one

Content is introduced across eight to ten subjects and the school builds its evidence for tier entries. No external examination pressure, which is precisely why this is the cheapest year in which to fix something. A student who leaves Year 10 fluent in algebraic manipulation and confident with quantitative science keeps the higher tier available in every subject that has one.

Schools serving Nad Al Hamar run both Cambridge and Pearson entries, sometimes within the same building for different subjects. Establish the board for each subject in Year 10, because a Year 11 student practising the wrong past papers in the final weeks is a common and entirely avoidable waste.

Year 11Ages 15-16 · Year 11

IGCSE year two

Entries are submitted, mocks are sat, and the series arrives. The content is covered once by the spring and the marginal value of more teaching falls while the marginal value of timed practice rises. A student carrying nine or ten subjects also has to triage, and deciding which two subjects deserve paid hours is a more important decision than which tutor to hire.

Mock windows at schools in the eastern suburbs cluster in the weeks after the winter break, though they sit a fortnight apart between the Festival City and Al Warqa clusters. For a Nad Al Hamar household with two children at different schools, that gap means two separate revision peaks rather than one.

Post-resultsAges 16+ · After the series

The resit window

A result below what is needed is a setback with a route out of it. Cambridge candidates can retake in the November series and Pearson Edexcel candidates likewise, entering through the school or a private centre, with results reaching students in January. The work between results and the examination is targeted repair rather than a full re-teach, and it should be bought as a block with a fixed end date.

Families in Nad Al Hamar should check whether their child's school will enter a retake candidate or whether a private centre is needed, because the answer varies by school and affects the deadline. Cambridge allocates every centre to one of six administrative zones and the timetable differs by zone.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

A Year 11 candidate cannot be tutored in nine subjects and should not try. These are the subjects Nad Al Hamar families most often need help with, and what the help consists of in each.

Mathematics

Core and Extended, Foundation and Higher

The gatekeeper. Weak algebra shows up in physics, chemistry and economics marks before it shows up in a maths grade. Higher-tier work means functions, graph transformations, circle theorems and vector proofs, all of which are routinely left blank rather than attempted.

Physics

Core and Extended

Formula rearrangement, units, and the treatment of experimental uncertainty. Students who can recite the physics and cannot rearrange an equation lose marks that look like physics marks and are not. Electricity and waves are the reliable trouble spots.

Chemistry

Core and Extended

Moles, concentration, yields and electrolysis. Almost all of the lost marks are arithmetic under pressure plus significant figures, which is correctable with a routine rather than more content teaching. Organic nomenclature is a memory task that rewards short frequent drilling.

Biology

Core and Extended

Volume of content and command-term precision. Describe, explain, suggest and compare ask for different things, and a student who writes everything they know for every question runs out of time and still loses marks on the ones they answered.

English Language and Literature

First and second language

Directed writing and the extended response, with marks driven by structure and the handling of the specific task. The commonest fix is planning time: three minutes spent on a plan produces an answer worth several marks more than ten extra minutes of writing.

Economics and Business Studies

IGCSE

Definition accuracy, diagram precision and evaluation structure. Students lose marks for describing a situation rather than applying a concept to it. These are among the fastest subjects to improve, because the gains are structural rather than content-based.

Computer Science and ICT

IGCSE

Pseudocode conventions, trace tables and the theory paper's precise vocabulary. Practical confidence does not transfer to the written paper, and students who code well often score poorly on the exam without targeted practice on the paper's own conventions.

Additional and Further Mathematics

For stronger candidates

Taken alongside the main mathematics entry at some schools. Useful preparation for A Level or IB Higher Level mathematics, and worth tutoring only once the main entry is secure, because it is an extension rather than a substitute.

Arabic as an additional language

Mandatory alongside the curriculum

Required in Dubai private schools regardless of the licensed curriculum, with KHDA requiring separate classes for Arab and non-Arab students because the curriculum expectations and the language of instruction differ. Progress here is about sustained exposure rather than examination technique.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three ways Nad Al Hamar families buy IGCSE support, keyed to where you are in the two years. All are delivered one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time.

Year 10 tier-protection block

A weekly session through Year 10 in the one or two subjects where the higher tier is at risk. Unglamorous and the best value available in the whole sequence, because the higher tier has to be earned in Year 10 and cannot be argued for in February of Year 11 once entries have closed.

  • Diagnostic on the specific topics that separate the tiers
  • Progress measured against the school's own Year 10 assessments
  • A clear view by spring of whether the higher entry is realistic
  • Short weekly work the student does alone between sessions

Mock-to-series technique block

From the mock results to the examinations, one or two sessions a week in the subjects the mocks identified. The work is timed papers, mark-scheme logic and an error log, not re-teaching. This is the mode that suits the largest number of Year 11 families and the one most often bought too broadly.

  • Starts from the actual mock papers and the marks lost on them
  • Errors sorted into method, misapplication, pace and misreading
  • Two subjects at most, chosen on where the marks are recoverable
  • Ends on the date of the first paper, so the cost is bounded

November resit block

A fixed run of sessions between results and the November series for a candidate retaking one or two subjects. Different work from first-time preparation: the content has been met, and the job is the specific topics the paper exposed plus finishing a paper under time pressure.

  • Built from the paper actually sat, not from the syllabus
  • Entry route confirmed first, through the school or a private centre
  • Two timed mocks inside the block, marked and explained
  • Results reach students in January, so the plan ends with a known date

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Nad Al Hamar

What home tuition costs in Dubai, and what we deliver instead

A parent weighing an in-home tutor against an online one deserves both numbers. In-home one-to-one visits in Dubai are quoted at roughly AED 180 to 500 an hour once travel is absorbed, with Bestimate's rate table at AED 180 to 350 and independent home tutors asking AED 200 to 500. Monthly in-home packages seen in this market run at AED 1,599 to 1,799 for four two-hour visits. A qualified subject tutor teaching online is quoted at AED 150 to 300 an hour, with Unitors publishing IGCSE from AED 150, and an online package at about AED 799 a month for eight sessions.

The premium on the in-home figure buys travel and scarcity. A tutor driving to Nad Al Hamar at 5.30pm is paid, directly or indirectly, for the unpaid hour they spend doing it, and the pool they are drawn from is whoever lives within a reasonable radius of an eastern residential district. For a common subject at a standard tier that pool may be adequate. For a higher-tier physics problem eight weeks before a series, it usually is not.

IB Gram does not offer home visits in Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Sharjah or anywhere else in the UAE. Home tutoring is a service we run in India only, and stating that on the page is more useful than discovering it in an email. Every lesson for a Nad Al Hamar family is one-to-one over live video, on Gulf Standard Time, at a slot fixed around the school run. If an adult in the room is genuinely the requirement, hire an independent local tutor and ask to see their MoHRE private tuition work permit.

The honest case for the online version is not that video is magical. It is that the hour starts when it is supposed to, the tutor is chosen because they have taught the syllabus code your child is entered for, the work is on a shared screen that survives the session, and the rate does not carry a travel premium. Over a two-term Year 11 block those four things compound.

The Year 11 calendar, month by month

August and September are for establishing facts, not for buying hours. Which board and which syllabus code for each subject, which tier, what the school's mock dates are, and which two subjects actually threaten the overall result. A family that knows those four things in September makes better decisions in February than one that is still guessing. The autumn term also carries the last genuinely useful content teaching, because by the spring there is no room for it.

October to December is content completion plus the first serious revision. Entries are being prepared in this window, and this is the last point at which a tier conversation with the school has any chance. The mock window lands in the weeks after the winter break at most schools in the eastern suburbs, though the Festival City and Al Warqa clusters sit a fortnight apart, which matters to a household with two candidates.

January and February are the diagnostic months. Mock results arrive, and they are worth reading for the pattern rather than the grade. A student who scored poorly across the board with time left on the paper has a content problem. One who ran out of time has a pacing problem. One whose marked script shows correct methods with wrong final answers has an accuracy problem. These need different work, and this is the moment to buy the right hours rather than more hours.

March onward is technique and nothing else. Timed papers in the correct syllabus code, mark-scheme logic, command-term handling, and the small bounded topics that are pure recoverable marks. The final timetable is published by the board in this window, and Cambridge candidates must use the version for their centre's administrative zone. Cambridge states that it is essential to use the correct zone timetable and that it cannot accept responsibility for candidates who miss an examination after using the wrong one; your school's exams officer knows the zone.

Entry deadlines, zone timetables and the traps in the admin

The administrative layer of IGCSE catches more families than the academic one, partly because nobody writes it down. Entries are submitted by the school to the board months before the papers, and they carry the tier. Once that entry is in, the grade ceiling is set, and a parent who wanted to argue for the higher tier has run out of road. This is the strongest argument for having the tier conversation in the autumn rather than the spring.

Cambridge International runs IGCSE and O Level in a June series and a November series, with Primary and Lower Secondary Checkpoint tests in March, May and October. The February and March series exists but is offered to India only, which means a Dubai parent reading a page that quotes a February examination window is reading advice written for a different country. That mistake is common enough in this market to be worth naming.

Cambridge also allocates every centre to one of six administrative zones, and the examination timetable differs between them. Cambridge's own guidance to exams officers states that it is essential to use the correct version of the timetable for your zone and that it cannot accept responsibility for candidates who miss an examination after using the wrong version. A parent working from a timetable found through a search engine may be looking at another zone entirely. Ask the exams officer which zone your child's centre sits in.

Pearson Edexcel International GCSE runs in May and June and again in November. For the completed cycles: the November 2026 final timetable ran from late October to 19 November 2026, June 2026 results went to centres on 19 August 2026 and to students on 20 August 2026, and November 2025 results reached students on 22 January 2026. Those dates are given because they are backward-looking and checkable. For any future series, name the month and read the live official timetable, because Pearson publishes provisional timetables that are later revised.

Nine subjects, two tutors: how to triage

  • Mathematics gates physics, chemistry and economics, so it ranks first even when its grade is not the lowest
  • A subject lost to accuracy or pacing is highly recoverable; one never understood is not, in the spring
  • Two paid subjects is the realistic maximum alongside nine or ten school subjects
  • Bounded topics like circle theorems and command-term discipline are the cheapest marks on the paper
  • Read the marked mock scripts, not the mock grades, before deciding anything

A Dubai Year 11 candidate typically carries nine or ten subjects, and no family should be paying for help in all of them. The arithmetic of triage is simple once it is written down. Rank the subjects by three things: how far the current grade sits below what the sixth-form plan needs, how many marks are recoverable in the time left, and whether the subject gates anything else. Mathematics gates physics, chemistry and economics, which is why it is almost always first on the list even when its own grade is not the worst.

Recoverability is the factor families most often misjudge. A subject where a student is close to a boundary and losing marks to accuracy or pacing is highly recoverable with a few weeks of timed practice. A subject where a student has understood very little of the year is not recoverable in the spring, however much is spent, and the honest recommendation there may be to protect the other eight subjects instead. A provider who will not say that is selling hours rather than advice.

There are also cheap wins that sit inside subjects rather than across them. Circle theorems in higher-tier mathematics are a bounded, learnable set that candidates routinely leave blank. Command-term discipline in biology turns knowledge a student already has into marks. Diagram accuracy in economics does the same. Planning time in English directed writing is worth more than extra content. A tutor who opens with these is reading the paper correctly.

The practical sequence for a Nad Al Hamar family in January is therefore: read the mock scripts rather than the mock grades, pick two subjects, buy a bounded block in each, and leave the rest to school and self-study. That is less than most agencies will propose and it is usually what works.

05

The Nad Al Hamar weeknight, and when a session actually fits

Door times in this district run from roughly 3.50pm for a Festival City run to after 4.30pm for Academic City, with activity days pushing arrival past 5pm. That is the starting constraint. The second is the evening homework load of a Year 11 candidate with nine or ten subjects, which in the autumn term is substantial and in the spring is replaced by revision that also needs hours. The third is that a tired student at 8.30pm absorbs very little, whatever the hour is nominally spent on.

The slot that survives a full term is therefore between 6pm and 7.30pm, with some homework cleared first. Sixty minutes is right for term-time subject work. Ninety minutes suits a timed paper plus review, which is why a weekend morning becomes valuable once the revision block starts: a full paper and a proper discussion of it does not fit into a weekday evening alongside everything else.

Frequency matters more than length in the final stretch. Two forty-five minute sessions a week beat one ninety-minute session for a student losing marks to accuracy, because accuracy is a habit and habits need repetition rather than depth. For content gaps the opposite holds, and a single longer session with proper working time is better. A tutor should tell you which pattern your child's problem calls for.

Ramadan changes the shape of the month. School hours shorten, door times come forward, and families split between an early-afternoon slot and a post-Iftar one. Both work over video in a way they would not with a tutor crossing the eastern suburbs at Iftar. For a Year 11 candidate the planning point is to move revision forward into the weeks before rather than assume the month will run at full pace.

Results day, and the resit route most families have not read about

Results arrive and the decision window is short, which is why it is worth understanding before the day. Pearson Edexcel June results went to centres on 19 August 2026 and to students on 20 August 2026, and November 2025 results reached students on 22 January 2026. Cambridge results follow a comparable rhythm for its June and November series. Within days of a disappointing grade a family has to decide between a retake, a review of marking, or accepting the grade and adjusting the sixth-form plan.

A review of marking is a formal process requested through the school and it has a deadline measured in weeks, not months. It is worth considering when a grade sits just below a boundary and the student's mock and coursework evidence is clearly stronger, and it is not worth considering as a general expression of disappointment, because marks can move in either direction. The school's exams officer runs it; a tutoring platform has no role in it and should not claim one.

A retake in the following series is the more common route. The entry goes through the school or, if the school will not enter a retake candidate, through a private examination centre, and in Dubai that is a practical question to ask early because the answer varies. Results from a November entry reach students in January, which for a student already in sixth form means a corrected grade partway through Year 12.

The work for a retake is not the Year 11 syllabus again. It starts from the paper that was sat and the pattern of marks lost on it, targets the specific topics exposed, and rehearses finishing a paper under time pressure with two marked mocks inside the block. Bought as a bounded block with a fixed end date, it is one of the better-value things in this market. Bought as an open-ended weekly arrangement, it drifts.

Permits, and how to check a tutor you hire yourself

Since this page recommends that families wanting an adult in the room should hire independently, it should also explain how to do that properly. Private tutoring in the UAE is regulated. The private tuition work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023 and is issued by the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation. It is granted free of charge for two years. Eligible applicants include teachers registered in government or private schools, employees in the government and private sectors, unemployed individuals, school students aged fifteen to eighteen, and university students.

The official application route is MoHRE's own service, titled Issuance of a New Work Permit - Private Tutor Licensing, applied for through the MoHRE smart app, website or e-services system, with a two working-day completion time listed and no fee. Individuals offering private tutoring without the permit are subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws. No fine schedule is published, so any page quoting a specific amount is quoting something it cannot source; this one does not.

A separate matter is a tutoring business with premises and staff in Dubai, which requires a KHDA Educational Services Permit for a training institute, with initial approval first and annual renewal requested at least thirty days before expiry. IB Gram holds no such permit and does not claim one, because it operates no premises in the UAE. Any provider describing its tutors as carrying a regulator's approval should be asked to produce the permit number.

One rule to know before approaching a teacher at your child's own school. ADEK's professional-ethics rules for private and charter school staff in Abu Dhabi prohibit paid private tutoring of students enrolled at the teacher's own school, and the MoHRE permit carries a code of conduct addressing the same thing. Treat the ADEK position as press-reported and check the current policy document, but do not build a plan around hiring your child's class teacher.

08

What we will not do, and what to ask us instead

Two things are off the table regardless of the deadline. We do not produce assessed work, in any subject, at any price. Where an IGCSE subject carries coursework or a controlled assessment, a tutor teaches the content, explains the criteria, demonstrates an example on a different task and questions the student's own draft. A tutor does not write, rewrite, supply content for or edit a student's submission. One site ranking for these searches sells completed assessments outright; the consequence of buying one falls on the candidate.

The second is that we do not supply syllabus documents, past papers, mark schemes or grade-boundary tables as downloads. Those belong to Cambridge International and Pearson, the boards publish specifications on their own sites, and your child's school has legitimate access. A tutor works from them in a session. A page offering them for download is handing you someone else's property and, for unreleased material, something worse.

We also do not claim approval from any regulator or board. IB Gram is not approved, accredited or licensed by KHDA, ADEK, SPEA, the Ministry of Education, MoHRE, Cambridge International or Pearson, and no page here will say otherwise. We name regulators in order to explain what they do. The phrase to be suspicious of, in this market, is a tutor described as approved by a regulator, because the permit that exists is an individual's work permit and nothing broader.

What is worth asking us: which syllabus codes has this tutor taught and in how many cohorts, what will they do in the number of weeks we actually have, what is the rate in AED per hour, what happens if the match is wrong after two sessions, and whether anyone will come to our address in Nad Al Hamar. The answer to the last one is no, and it is better to have it now.

Where we tutor

Nearby areas we cover around Nad Al Hamar

What the calendar looks like in practice depends on which direction your child travels. These are the eastern-suburb communities that shape a Nad Al Hamar weeknight.

Nad Al Hamar

Villa and low-rise apartment streets between the Ras Al Khor sanctuary and the Dubai-Al Ain Road. No secondary school inside the district, so every family here runs a commute, and evenings are quiet enough for a 6.30pm session to work.

Al Rashidiya

Directly north, with the airport approach shaping afternoon traffic. Shared bus routes mean an extra stop and roughly ten extra minutes on the way home for some Nad Al Hamar addresses.

Mirdif

The main eastern school destination, twenty minutes off-peak and nearer thirty-five at pickup. The mock calendar at Mirdif schools typically lands in the two or three weeks after the winter break.

Dubai Festival City

The closest cluster of large international schools, reached along Ras Al Khor Road. Entry boards vary between the schools here, which is why two children on the same road can sit different syllabus codes.

Al Warqa

South-east, with large British and Indian curriculum schools. Mock weeks here often sit a fortnight away from the Festival City schools, so a household with two candidates gets two revision peaks.

Al Qusais and Al Nahda

North-east along the metro corridor, a thirty-five to forty minute run at pickup. Door times after 4.10pm, which pushes a Year 11 session to 6.30pm or later.

Al Khawaneej and Al Mizhar

Outer villa communities with long internal roads. Predictable but late arrivals, and the reason several families in this part of Dubai moved to evening video sessions rather than negotiate a tutor's travel window.

Academic City and Dubai Silicon Oasis

South along the Dubai-Al Ain Road, with senior schools and private examination centres. Worth knowing for retake candidates, since a private centre entry may be the route if a school will not enter a resit.

School ecosystem

Which board for each subject, the tier, and the deadline you are working to. Those three facts shape every useful recommendation, and the first two come off the statement of entry or from the exams officer in one email.

  2. 02

Send the marked mock script, not the grade

A marked paper tells a tutor in two minutes what a description takes ten to convey, and it distinguishes content gaps from accuracy, pacing and misreading. Those four need different sessions, and the script is the only reliable way to tell them apart.

  3. 03

We help you triage to two subjects

Ranked by how far the grade sits below what is needed, how many marks are recoverable in the weeks available, and whether the subject gates another. If we think a subject is not recoverable in the time left, we will say so rather than sell the hours.

  4. 04

Trial lesson, forty-five minutes, live online

Real work on the actual problem, with no card details collected. You get a written note afterwards naming the three things the tutor would do first and, as importantly, what they would leave alone.

  5. 05

A bounded block with an end date

For deadline-driven work the plan ends on the deadline and the number of sessions is stated at the start, so the total cost is known. Open-ended arrangements drift, and in a Year 11 spring there is no time for drift.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

The calendar is treated as the constraint

Entry deadlines, zone timetables, mock windows and results dates decide what is possible. We set them out rather than quoting a generic improvement plan, and we will tell you when a window has already closed.

Delivery stated before you book

One-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time. IB Gram does not offer home visits in Dubai or anywhere in the UAE; home tutoring is an India-only service. The in-home market is priced here so you can judge the alternative fairly.

Triage advice, not a subject list

Nine or ten subjects cannot all be tutored. We will help you pick two on recoverable marks and gating effects, which usually means proposing less than you expected to buy.

Rates attributed and dated

Every AED band on this page was published by the provider named and read in October 2026. Three of six ranking pages in this market publish no price at all; two of the three that do quote US dollars.

No claimed approvals

IB Gram holds no accreditation from KHDA, ADEK, SPEA, the Ministry of Education, Cambridge International or Pearson and claims none. We explain what the regulators do and point you to their own pages.

A boundary on assessed work

Teaching, criteria explanation, worked examples on other tasks and questions on your child's own draft. Never producing, rewriting or editing a submission. The candidate is the person a malpractice finding lands on.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Nad Al Hamar: your questions answered

Will an IGCSE tutor travel to our villa in Nad Al Hamar?+

Not through us. IB Gram teaches one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time, and home visits are a service we run in India only, never at a UAE address. The Dubai in-home market is real, with visits quoted at roughly AED 180 to 500 an hour once travel is absorbed and monthly packages at AED 1,599 to 1,799 for four two-hour visits. If an adult in the room is your requirement, hire independently and ask to see the tutor's MoHRE private tuition work permit before the first session.

When do IGCSE entries close, and can the tier still be changed after that?+

Entries are submitted by the school to the board months before the papers, and they carry the tier. Once the entry is in, the grade ceiling of the lower tier is fixed and no amount of tutoring lifts a result above it. That is why a tier conversation belongs in the autumn term of Year 11 at the latest, and really in Year 10, when the topics that separate the tiers can still be built. Ask the school directly what evidence they would need and by when.

Is there a February IGCSE series my child in Dubai could sit?+

No. Cambridge International runs IGCSE and O Level in a June series and a November series, and the February and March series is offered to India only. Pearson Edexcel International GCSE runs in May and June and again in November. Pages quoting a February examination window or its entry deadline to a UAE parent have copied guidance written for another country. Check the live official timetable through your school, and note that Cambridge timetables differ by administrative zone, of which there are six.

Our centre is in an administrative zone - which timetable should we print?+

Cambridge allocates every examination centre to one of six administrative zones, and the timetable differs between them. Cambridge's guidance to exams officers states that it is essential to use the correct version for your zone and that it cannot accept responsibility for candidates who miss an examination after using the wrong one. A parent who downloads a timetable found through a search engine may be reading another zone's dates. Ask your school's exams officer which zone the centre sits in and work only from that version.

My child has nine subjects. How many should we actually tutor?+

Two, in almost every case. Rank the subjects by how far the current grade sits below what the sixth-form plan requires, how many marks are genuinely recoverable in the weeks left, and whether the subject gates others. Mathematics usually ranks first because it gates physics, chemistry and economics. A subject the student has barely understood all year is not recoverable in a Year 11 spring, and the honest move there is to protect the other eight rather than spend on the one.

How do we read a disappointing mock result usefully?+

Read the marked script, not the grade. Four patterns explain most of the loss: methods not known, methods known but misapplied, accuracy errors on correct methods, and questions misread. A student who left the last page blank has a pacing problem rather than a knowledge problem. One whose working is right and answers wrong needs a checking routine. Each pattern needs a different session shape, and buying generic extra hours without identifying the pattern is the commonest way families waste money in January.

What does a November resit block involve for a Dubai candidate?+

First, confirm the entry route, because some schools will enter a retake candidate and some will not, in which case a private examination centre is needed. Then build the work from the paper actually sat rather than from the syllabus: the topics it exposed, the pacing, and two timed mocks inside the block, marked and explained. Buy it as a bounded block with a fixed end date so the cost is known. Results from a November entry reach students in January.

Which board do the schools near Nad Al Hamar use for IGCSE?+

Both, and sometimes both within one school for different subjects. Schools in the Dubai Festival City cluster and the Mirdif, Al Warqa and Al Mizhar belt use Cambridge International and Pearson Edexcel entries, and the choice is the school's. Check your child's statement of entry for the syllabus code per subject rather than assuming a school-wide answer. Dubai had 227 private schools offering 17 curricula in 2024-25. Schools are named here as local context only, with no affiliation implied.

How far can help on an IGCSE controlled assessment legitimately go?+

Within a boundary, and we state it to the student in the first session. A tutor teaches the content, explains how the criteria distribute marks, demonstrates a worked example on a completely different task, and reads the student's own draft to ask questions about method and evidence. A tutor does not write, rewrite, supply content for or edit the submission. One page ranking in this market sells completed assessments, and the consequences of using one fall on the candidate rather than the seller.

Can we download board past papers and mark schemes from you?+

No. Past papers, mark schemes, specifications and grade-boundary tables belong to Cambridge International and Pearson. The boards publish specifications on their own sites and your child's school has legitimate access to the assessment material. A tutor works from that material inside a session, which is entirely proper; hosting it for download is not, and for unreleased material it is worse. Any site offering a download library of boards' material is handing you someone else's property.

Is my child's online tutor required to hold a UAE permit?+

Anyone providing private tuition in the UAE needs the private tuition work permit introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023 and issued by MoHRE. It is free and valid for two years, and eligible categories include registered school teachers, government and private-sector employees, unemployed residents, university students, and students aged fifteen to eighteen. Operating without it attracts fines and penalties under the applicable laws, though no fine schedule is published. Ask for the permit and check the name matches the person actually teaching.

How much of our evening does an IGCSE session need in Year 11?+

Sixty minutes for term-time subject work, ninety when a full timed paper and a proper review are the point, and forty-five twice a week when the problem is accuracy, because accuracy is a habit and habits need frequency. Door times in Nad Al Hamar run from about 3.50pm to past 4.30pm depending on the school direction, and a Year 11 student needs some homework cleared first, so the slot that survives a whole term is usually between 6pm and 7.30pm.

Should we book sessions through Ramadan or pause them?+

Keep them and move them. School hours shorten during Ramadan, so the Nad Al Hamar door time comes forward and the whole evening changes shape. Households generally choose either an early-afternoon slot or a post-Iftar one, and both work on video in a way they would not with a tutor crossing the eastern suburbs at Iftar. For a Year 11 candidate the sensible planning move is to pull revision forward into the weeks before the month rather than assume full intensity during it.

What should we send in the first message to get a useful reply?+

Four things: the subjects with their boards and syllabus codes, the tier for each where tiers exist, the most recent marked mock script, and the date you are working to. With those a tutor suggestion and a realistic plan take a day. Without them the exchange runs for a week and ends in a generic proposal. If you do not know the codes, the school's exams officer will confirm them in one email, and that email is worth sending before anything else.

Fix the facts, pick two subjects, then book the hour

Start with the administrative facts: board and syllabus code per subject, tier, the school's mock dates, and the entry deadline. Then read the marked mock scripts rather than the grades, and pick the two subjects where marks are genuinely recoverable in the weeks you have. Then book a bounded block in an evening slot that survives the Nad Al Hamar school run, with an end date and a stated number of sessions. Lessons are one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time; home tutoring is an India-only service for us. Last reviewed 22 October 2026.
