IGCSE Science Tutor in Meydan

Before you hire an IGCSE science tutor in Meydan, find the syllabus code. A Meydan student may be sitting Cambridge 0620, 0625 or 0610 as three separate sciences, Cambridge 0654 as a double award, or one of the Pearson Edexcel specifications instead, and the papers differ in ways that decide what a tutor should be doing. This page shows you how to find the code, what each route assesses, and where Extended-tier marks go missing. Lessons are one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time.

  • We ask for the syllabus code before the first lesson, not after
  • Cambridge and Pearson Edexcel specifications both covered
  • One-to-one over live video; no home visits anywhere in the UAE
  • Free first lesson with the named tutor, no card required

IB & IGCSE in Meydan

The code comes before the tutor

Most parents searching for an IGCSE science tutor in Meydan can name the subject and not the specification, and that gap is where a term of tutoring gets wasted. The phrase science covers at least five different purchases at this level. A student may be sitting Cambridge Chemistry 0620, Physics 0625 and Biology 0610 as three separate subjects. They may be sitting Cambridge Co-ordinated Sciences 0654 as a double award, which covers all three disciplines across a smaller set of papers and earns two grades. They may be on the Pearson Edexcel equivalents instead. Each of those routes examines different material through differently structured papers.

The second decision hidden inside the same phrase is the tier. A Cambridge entry is either Core or Extended, and the tier sets the ceiling before any teaching happens: Core entries access grades C to G, Extended entries A* to E. A student entered for Core cannot earn a grade above C no matter how well they are taught, and families discover this at exactly the wrong moment. The equivalent decision on the Pearson side is Foundation against Higher. A tutor who starts work without knowing the tier is guessing at which content is even on the paper.

Then there is the practical question, which in Dubai is nearly always answered one way. Cambridge sciences offer a practical test or an alternative-to-practical written paper, and most international centres enter candidates for the alternative. That paper asks a student to read apparatus diagrams, describe method, identify variables and spot sources of error without touching equipment. It is a paper about laboratory thinking rather than laboratory skill, which is why it tutors extremely well online and why a student who enjoys practical work can still lose marks on it.

Meydan's geography makes the usual proximity argument weak. There is no secondary school inside Meydan. The students sit in Nad Al Sheba at Repton School Dubai, Kent College Dubai, GEMS Modern Academy or North London Collegiate School Dubai, or across Ras Al Khor Road at Hartland International School, Deira International School and Dubai English Speaking College. A tutor living in District One is no better placed to know which specification your child's school entered than one teaching from elsewhere. One of those facts affects the grade. The other affects nothing.

IB Gram does not sell home visits in Dubai or anywhere in the UAE; that service runs only in India. Science support for Meydan families is one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time, with apparatus diagrams and past papers shared on screen. For the alternative-to-practical paper in particular, that is not a compromise: the paper itself is a written exercise, and marking a student's own attempt on a shared screen with the scheme open is the most direct form of preparation there is.

IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

An IGCSE science sits in a two-year route that leads somewhere, and where it leads changes what a tutor should prioritise. These are the stages a Meydan family is usually dealing with.

IGCSEAges 14-16 · Years 10-11

IGCSE Sciences, Years 10 and 11

Either three separate sciences or a double award covering all three disciplines. Cambridge entries are tiered Core or Extended; Pearson Edexcel entries are Foundation or Higher. Written theory papers carry the bulk of the marks, with a practical test or an alternative-to-practical paper alongside. The content volume is the defining feature: a triple-science student is carrying three full specifications at once, which is the real reason science becomes the subject families buy help for.

In Meydan the route is set by the Nad Al Sheba or Hartland school rather than by the family, and the schools in this corridor do not all choose the same board. Ask for the code and the tier before booking anything; the school's examinations officer holds both.

Pre-IGCSEAges 12-14 · Years 8-9

Years 8 and 9, before the specification starts

The years in which the habits that decide an IGCSE science grade are formed, and almost nobody buys tutoring for them. The skills that transfer are unit handling, rearranging a formula, drawing a line of best fit and writing a method somebody else could follow. None of that is on a specification yet, which is exactly why it is cheap to fix here and expensive to fix in Year 11.

For a Meydan family this is the highest-value science tutoring available and the least purchased. A short block in Year 9 on calculation fluency and method writing costs a fraction of a Year 11 rescue term in the same Dubai market.

Post-16Ages 16-19

Where the science route leads next

A double-award grade is accepted for many sixth-form science courses but not all, and some A Level and IB Diploma science entries expect a separate single-science grade. That makes the Year 9 option choice a post-16 decision in disguise. It also means a November resit can matter for sixth-form entry in a way a parent does not anticipate in June.

The Meydan schools split between A Level and the IB Diploma at sixth form, sometimes within the same campus, so ask the school directly what its own sixth form expects from a science entry before deciding between a double award and three single sciences.

MoEEnd of school

Ministry of Education equivalency

For a UAE certificate equivalency on the British track, a student must pass five accredited subjects at GCSE or IGCSE with a grade of no less than E or grade 3, with Arabic and Islamic education not included among the five, plus one accredited Advanced Level subject at no less than E or two Advanced Subsidiary subjects at the same grade.

Those are the sourced figures, and one ranking competitor in this market publishes six subjects instead of five. Verify your own case on moe.gov.ae or with the attestation authority; IB Gram neither performs nor guarantees any part of the equivalency process.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

What a Meydan family actually buys under the word science varies. These are the components, named by what they assess rather than by subject label, because that is the level at which a tutor is either useful or not.

Chemistry

Core and Extended, Cambridge 0620 or Pearson 4CH1

Reactions, moles, rates and organic families. Extended-tier marks disappear on stoichiometry that requires two steps and on explanations of trends where the student states the trend and omits the reason the mark scheme pays for.

Physics

Core and Extended, Cambridge 0625 or Pearson 4PH1

Formula-driven and calculation-heavy. Marks go missing on unit prefixes, on rearranging before substituting, and on circuit questions where a student can recite the rule for current and not apply it to an unfamiliar arrangement.

Biology

Core and Extended, Cambridge 0610 or Pearson 4BI1

The highest content volume of the three and the one most often under-revised because it reads as easy. Extended questions want precise terminology, and an answer that is broadly right in everyday language earns nothing.

Co-ordinated Sciences, double award

Core and Extended, Cambridge 0654

All three disciplines across a reduced set of papers, awarded as two grades. Less content than triple science but the same demand for precision, and a student needs to know which of the three disciplines is actually weak rather than treating it as one subject.

Combined Science, single award

Core and Extended, Cambridge 0653

A single grade covering all three disciplines, entered by a smaller group. Worth confirming with the school whether this is the entry, because the content coverage differs from the double award and past-paper practice does not transfer cleanly.

Alternative to Practical

Written paper, both tiers

Apparatus diagrams, method description, variable identification and sources of error, examined on paper. The paper most Dubai centres enter and the one most students have never practised separately, which makes it an unusually productive target.

Mathematics

Core and Extended, Cambridge 0580 or Pearson 4MA1

The subject that silently limits a physics grade. Rearranging formulae, handling standard form and reading gradients are maths skills examined inside science papers, and a science tutor who identifies that saves a family a wasted term.

Science practical skills

Years 9 to 11

Writing a method another person could repeat, tabulating results with units in the heading, plotting sensibly and distinguishing anomaly from error. Examined across every science paper and taught explicitly almost nowhere.

Extended writing in science

Both tiers

The six-mark explain questions where most Extended candidates lose their margin. The fix is structural rather than factual: name the thing, state the mechanism, state the consequence, in that order, every time.

Past-paper technique

Year 11

Reading command words, allocating minutes by marks, and knowing when to abandon a question. Worth more in the final term than any further content coverage, and genuinely teachable in a handful of sessions.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three formats that suit different points in a two-year science course. The specification question applies to all three, because no format rescues a tutor working from the wrong paper structure.

Weekly one-to-one, 60 minutes

The standard arrangement while content is still being taught, and the right one through Year 10 and the first half of Year 11. An hour holds one topic, a short diagnostic and a set of exam-style questions. It does not hold a full paper under timing plus the marking conversation, which is why the format needs to change in the final two terms.

  • Aligned to the specification and tier the school actually entered
  • One discipline per session rather than a sweep across all three
  • Written note each time, naming the specific gap found
  • The slot moves rather than disappearing when something clashes

Ninety-minute paper sessions

Where Extended-tier marks are recovered. A full theory paper or an alternative-to-practical paper sat under timing, then marked with the student present against the published scheme, exposes the loss pattern a content lesson never shows. For triple-science students this is also how you find out which of the three disciplines is actually weak.

  • Built on the correct board's papers, not the other board's
  • Marked with the student, never returned as a bare score
  • Command words and mark allocation treated as teachable content
  • Usually booked as a block through the final two terms

A practical-skills block

Three or four sessions aimed squarely at the alternative-to-practical paper: reading apparatus diagrams, writing a repeatable method, identifying variables, distinguishing anomaly from error and proposing improvements. Most students have never practised this paper separately, and the marks are procedural, which makes the return on a short block unusually high.

  • Apparatus diagrams worked through on a shared screen
  • Method writing marked against what a reader could actually repeat
  • Variables and controls named explicitly, every time
  • Suits two children at the same stage in one household

A single diagnostic block

Two or three hours aimed at one bad school assessment rather than at the subject. It answers the question a parent actually has, which is whether the problem is content, calculation, terminology or timing, before a term gets committed to the wrong target.

  • Starts from the marked script the school already produced
  • Priced as a block rather than as a standing arrangement
  • Ends with a written statement of which discipline is weak
  • May convert into weekly work, or into nothing at all

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Meydan

01

How to find the specification and tier your child is actually sitting

The document you want exists and your school will give it to you. Email the examinations officer, not the science teacher, and ask for the board, the syllabus code, the tier and the components your child is entered for. The reason to ask the examinations officer is that entries are their job, and a science teacher may know the course without knowing which tier an individual pupil was finally entered for. Ask for it in writing and keep it, because every subsequent decision about tutoring depends on it.

If you want to check before the reply arrives, look at the student's own materials. The front of a past paper carries the code and the component number. An exercise book or revision guide issued by the school usually names the board. A mock paper is the most reliable artefact of all, since schools normally mock on the specification they have entered. The combination of code and component tells a tutor almost everything: Cambridge 0620 with a Paper 4 is Extended-tier chemistry theory, and Cambridge 0654 is the double award whatever else is said about it.

The tier is the part worth being insistent about. A Cambridge Core entry accesses grades C to G and an Extended entry accesses A* to E, and that ceiling is set by the entry rather than by the teaching. A family paying for Extended-level tutoring for a child entered at Core is buying content that will not appear on the paper, and a family discovering in April that the entry was Core has lost the window to ask about changing it. Schools will discuss a tier change where the evidence supports it, but the conversation has to happen in time.

Once you hold the code, tier and components, send them to any tutor you are considering before the first lesson. It is a reasonable test as well as useful information: a tutor who asks what the components are and plans around them is working professionally, and one who says they cover all the boards without wanting the detail is telling you something about how the sessions will go.

Triple science or a double award, and what the choice closes

  • Triple science is three specifications and three practical components
  • A double award covers all three disciplines and awards two grades
  • Sixth-form acceptance differs between A Level and the IB Diploma
  • Double-award weakness needs a timed paper to locate
  • Raise workload concerns in Year 10, not the spring of Year 11

A Meydan family usually meets this decision in Year 9 and treats it as a workload question, which it partly is. Three separate sciences means three full specifications, three sets of theory papers and three practical components, and for a student carrying nine or ten subjects that is a genuine load. A double award covers all three disciplines across a reduced content set and awards two grades, which lightens the week considerably without removing any discipline from the student's education.

Where the decision bites is afterwards. Sixth-form science courses vary in what they will accept: many are content with a strong double-award grade, some expect a separate single-science grade in the discipline being continued, and the position differs between A Level and the IB Diploma. The Meydan corridor contains both routes, sometimes inside one campus, so the question cannot be answered in general. Ask the school's own sixth form what it expects, and if your child might move schools, ask the likely destination too.

The tutoring consequence is specific. A double-award student who needs help does not need three tutors; they need one person who can find out which of the three disciplines is actually costing marks, which is usually invisible from a single overall grade. A triple-science student is in a different position, because a weak discipline shows up as a weak subject grade and can be targeted directly. Diagnosing the double-award student takes a timed paper and a marking session rather than a conversation.

One further point families underestimate: dropping from triple to double after the course has started is not always possible and not always free of consequence, since entries and teaching groups are already set. If the workload is the problem, raise it with the school early in Year 10 rather than in the spring of Year 11, when the realistic options have narrowed to tier changes and resits.

03

The alternative-to-practical paper, and why it tutors so well

Cambridge sciences offer either a practical test or an alternative-to-practical written paper, and most international centres enter the alternative. That means a Meydan student's practical marks are earned on paper: reading an apparatus diagram and saying what it measures, writing a method precise enough for somebody else to repeat, naming the independent, dependent and controlled variables, reading a scale correctly, spotting an anomalous result and explaining what probably caused it, and proposing a specific improvement rather than a general one.

Those are procedural skills, which is why they respond so quickly to teaching and why so many marks are available to a student who has practised them. The usual failure is not ignorance. It is vagueness: a method that says heat the liquid and record the temperature, where the mark scheme wanted the volume stated, the heating described and the measurement interval specified. A student who has had three of their own methods marked against a published scheme generally stops writing vague ones, and the improvement transfers across all three disciplines at once.

This paper is also the clearest case against the assumption that science must be tutored in person. The assessment is written. Working through apparatus diagrams on a shared screen, with the student annotating and the scheme open alongside, is a closer match to the exam than standing at a bench would be. A student who enjoys laboratory work and dislikes writing method frequently scores worse here than a cautious classmate, which surprises parents and is entirely consistent with what the paper measures.

Practically, this is the block we would recommend first to a Meydan household unsure where to start. It is short, it is cheap relative to a term, the marks are recoverable, and the gain applies to chemistry, physics and biology simultaneously. Ask the school to confirm which practical component your child is entered for before booking it, since the small number of centres running the practical test need something different.

The two series a Meydan candidate sits, counted backwards

Cambridge International runs its IGCSE examinations in a June series and a November series. UAE candidates sit those two. The February and March series exists but is offered to India only, and it is worth saying plainly because material written for Indian candidates circulates freely online and a Dubai family acting on a February entry deadline would be acting on the wrong calendar. Primary and Lower Secondary Checkpoint tests sit separately in March, May and October and are not part of this.

Cambridge also allocates every examination centre to one of six administrative zones, each with its own version of the timetable, and states that it is essential to use the correct version for your zone. Cambridge warns that it cannot accept responsibility for candidates who miss an examination after using the wrong zone timetable. So the only timetable worth planning around is the one your school's examinations officer confirms for your centre. Printing a timetable found through a search engine is a real risk rather than a theoretical one.

Pearson Edexcel International GCSE examinations are available in a May and June window and in November each year. The November final timetable ran from late October to 19 November 2026. Results dates give a sense of the lag: June 2026 results went to centres on 19 August 2026 and to students on 20 August 2026, while November 2025 results reached students on 22 January 2026. Pearson publishes provisional timetables ahead of each series, so the live official timetable is the document to work from rather than any restatement of it.

Counted backwards, the planning points are clear enough. Final entries sit months before the papers, which is why a tier conversation has to happen early. Mocks land in the winter term at most Meydan-area schools and are the best diagnostic data a family will get for free. A November resit is a real option, but its results arrive in the January window, so check whether that timing works for a sixth-form offer before relying on it.

Equivalency, the permit, and the claims we will not make

  • Five accredited IGCSE or GCSE subjects at no less than E or grade 3
  • Arabic and Islamic education are excluded from those five
  • Plus one Advanced Level at E, or two Advanced Subsidiary subjects at E
  • The private tuition permit is free and valid for two years
  • No regulator approves, accredits or endorses IB Gram

Families on the British track in Dubai eventually meet the Ministry of Education equivalency requirement, and the sourced position is specific. A student must pass five accredited subjects at GCSE or IGCSE with a grade of no less than E or grade 3, and Arabic and Islamic education are not included among those five. Alongside that, the requirement names one accredited Advanced Level subject at a grade of no less than E, or two accredited Advanced Subsidiary subjects at the same grade. One ranking competitor in this market tells UAE candidates they must take six IGCSE subjects, which is not what the published clarification says.

No IB points threshold for equivalency appears in that source, so none is published here. Nor should anyone treat these pages as the authority on an individual case: equivalency and attestation are processes run by the Ministry and the attestation authorities, and IB Gram neither performs them, guarantees them, nor has any role in them. Check your own position on moe.gov.ae or with the relevant authority, and be sceptical of any tutoring provider that implies tutoring is required for a regulatory outcome.

On who may teach: private tutoring in the UAE runs on a permit issued by the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation under Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023. It is granted free of charge for two years and is open to registered school teachers, government and private-sector employees, unemployed residents, university students and school students aged 15 to 18. MoHRE's service page lists no fee and a two-working-day completion time. Individuals tutoring without one are subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws, and because no schedule of amounts is published, no figure should be quoted at you.

For completeness: IB Gram holds no approval, accreditation, licence or partnership from KHDA, ADEK, SPEA, the Ministry of Education, Cambridge or Pearson, and nothing here should be read as claiming one. Dubai's private schools are overseen by KHDA; Abu Dhabi and Al Ain by ADEK, which supervises the licensing and accreditation of private schools there; Sharjah by SPEA; Ras Al Khaimah by its Department of Knowledge; and Ajman, Umm Al Quwain and Fujairah by the Ministry of Education. Naming them is useful to a parent. Implying they endorse us would not be.

06

A nearby science tutor against an online specialist

The honest version of this comparison turns on what the paper actually tests. For a student who will not sit down without an adult present, a person at the table is worth paying for and that is a real need rather than a weakness. For a Year 11 student entered for Extended-tier papers and an alternative-to-practical component, the thing that moves the grade is somebody who knows that specification's question style and can mark the student's own attempt against the published scheme. Those two qualities have no relationship to each other.

In Meydan the geography makes the trade worse than it looks. The approach from Al Quoz or along Al Khail Road between four and six o'clock is slow, so a local tutor's earliest offer tends to be later than the family wanted, and the set of people who clear both the specification bar and the commute bar is small. Online delivery drops the commute condition and keeps the one that matters. That is the argument, and it is about logistics rather than about screens being superior.

The published Dubai rates frame the money. Qualified online subject tutoring runs roughly AED 150 to 300 an hour, with Unitors stating an IGCSE rate from AED 150. In-home one-to-one is quoted at AED 180 to 500, with Bestimate's table at 180 to 350 and independent tutors asking 200 to 500. Budget online tutoring advertises much lower, from around AED 33 to 65 at EdFlik and Tutopiya. Those are each provider's own published figures, read in October 2026, and none of them is our price.

IB Gram does not offer home visits in Dubai or anywhere else in the UAE; that service runs only in India. What a Meydan family gets instead is one-to-one live video on Gulf Standard Time, with apparatus diagrams and the correct board's papers on a shared screen, and a recording the student can return to before a test. For the alternative-to-practical paper specifically, that is a closer match to the examination than a bench would be.

Starting from Meydan, with the limits stated

  • Send the school, the board, the code and the tier
  • Free first lesson with the named tutor, no card needed
  • Book the practical-skills block early; it pays across all three sciences
  • Switch to timed paper marking once mocks are returned
  • An honest no, with a date, when no specialist is free

Send three things first: the school, and the board, code and tier from the examinations officer. With those we can say whether a specialist in that specification is free in your hour. Without them any provider is guessing, and a plan built on a guess about the tier is the most expensive mistake available in this subject. If you do not have the details yet, ask us anyway and we will tell you exactly what to request from the school.

Then take the free trial lesson with the named tutor who would teach your child. No card, no commitment, no automatic enrolment. The useful thing to watch is whether the tutor asks about components and tier unprompted and whether the questions they set look like the right board's questions. A written note follows the session describing the gap found, and that note is worth having even if you stop there.

Coverage limits deserve saying out loud, since nobody else in this market does. Specialists for a particular board and tier in the late-afternoon Gulf window are finite, and triple-science households often need two slots rather than one. Sometimes the honest answer is a different hour, sometimes a different weekday, sometimes a short wait. You will get which one, with a date, rather than a generalist seated in the slot.

After that the pattern is unexciting by design. Weekly sessions aimed at a named target, a written note each time, a practical-skills block early, and a deliberate switch to timed paper marking once the mocks are back. If the gap closes, we say so and stop. A provider who never reaches that point is selling a subscription rather than teaching a specification.

Where we tutor

Nearby areas we cover around Meydan

Meydan has no school inside it, so the practical facts about an IGCSE science week are set by the places around it. Each entry below changes something about scheduling or specification rather than something decorative.

Nad Al Sheba

The school belt Meydan uses. Four secondary schools sit here and they do not all enter the same science board or tier, so the first question is which school, not which subject.

Sobha Hartland

Across Ras Al Khor Road, with Hartland International School and North London Collegiate School Dubai drawing from both communities. Two Meydan neighbours in Year 11 may be sitting different specifications in different series.

Mohammed Bin Rashid City and District One

Practically the same evening as Meydan. Villa households here more often run two children through Year 10 and Year 11 at once, which is where a shared practical-skills session saves real money.

Business Bay

Where many Meydan parents work. A five o'clock return is why the later science slot gets chosen even when the student has been home since four, and why online sessions that start without a parent present are useful here.

Al Quoz and Al Khail Road

The direction a local tutor drives in from. Late-afternoon congestion on this approach is the reason an in-home quote in Meydan arrives with a later start time than the family asked for.

Al Jaddaf

Swiss International Scientific School Dubai sits here and draws bilingual families across the corridor. A bilingual route adds a language demand that no science specialist should claim to cover.

Deira and the creek side

Deira International School and Dubai English Speaking College are reached this way, and both are used by Meydan households. The drive is the reason their families favour the early-evening slot over the late-afternoon one.

Downtown Dubai and DIFC

Near off-peak and considerably further inside it. Families booking a science session around a Downtown activity should count the return leg, which is normally what breaks the arrangement.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in Meydan

Nad Al Sheba, the Meydan school belt

Four secondary schools within a short drive of any Meydan address, and no guarantee that two of them enter the same science specification or tier. The examinations officer at each one can give you the code and tier in writing, which is the single most useful document in this process.

  • Repton School Dubai
  • Kent College Dubai
  • GEMS Modern Academy
  • North London Collegiate School Dubai

Sobha Hartland, Al Jaddaf and the creek side

The schools reached across Ras Al Khor Road, covering the British route to A Level, the IB continuum and the bilingual Diploma. Between them they produce science cohorts on several different boards, which is why a generic science tutor is a poor fit in this corridor.

  • Hartland International School
  • Swiss International Scientific School Dubai
  • Deira International School
  • Dubai English Speaking College

Schools are named here as the ecosystem a Meydan science student sits inside; no affiliation, endorsement or relationship with any of them is implied.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Get the code and tier in writing

Email the school's examinations officer, not the science teacher, and ask for the board, syllabus code, tier and components. Entries are the examinations officer's job, and the written answer is the document every later decision depends on. Keep it somewhere you can find it in April.

  2. 02

Tell us which discipline is actually weak

For triple science the subject grades usually show it. For a double award they do not, so expect the first useful step to be one timed paper marked together rather than a diagnosis from the report. Either way, name what you already know and we will say what is still missing.

  3. 03

    Take the free trial lesson

Sixty minutes with the tutor who would teach your child, at no cost and without a card. Watch whether they ask about tier and components without being prompted, and whether the questions they set come from the right board. You get a written note either way.

  4. 04

    Book the practical-skills block early

Three or four sessions on the alternative-to-practical paper: method writing, variables, reading apparatus, anomalies and improvements. The marks are procedural, the gain applies to all three disciplines at once, and most students have never practised this paper separately.

  5. 05

    Switch format after the mocks

Once a marked mock exists, move from sixty-minute content work to ninety-minute timed papers marked with the student present. Making that change deliberately, on a date, is considerably cheaper than drifting into it in the final six weeks.

  6. 06

Stop when the gap has closed

Read the session notes. When the identified weakness has gone and timed papers land where they should, the work is finished and we will say so. Coming back for a block before the next series is cheaper than paying through a term that has nothing left to fix.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

We ask for the specification first

Board, code, tier and components before the first lesson, because a science tutor working from the wrong paper structure will teach competently and still miss the assessment. It is a short email to your examinations officer and it changes everything that follows.

The practical paper is treated as a subject

Most Dubai centres enter the alternative-to-practical component, and most students have never practised it separately. We timetable a block for it deliberately, because the marks are procedural and the gain shows up in chemistry, physics and biology at the same time.

The right board's papers, every time

Cambridge and Pearson Edexcel ask for the same science in different ways, and practising the wrong board's questions builds confidence in the wrong style. Sessions use the specification your child is actually entered for.

Sourced facts, named sources

The equivalency rule, the permit position, the series and the published rates on this page each come from a source we can name. Where something is not verified, such as any IB session date, we say so and publish nothing rather than guessing.

No regulator claimed as a backer

IB Gram holds no KHDA, ADEK, SPEA, Ministry of Education, Cambridge or Pearson approval, accreditation or partnership. We explain what each body does and point you at its own pages, because a parent checking beats a parent trusting.

Coverage limits stated before you pay

Specialists for a given board and tier in the late-afternoon Gulf window are finite, and a triple-science household often needs two slots. When we cannot fill them properly we say so with a date instead of substituting quietly.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Meydan: your questions answered

How do I find out which IGCSE science specification my child in Meydan is sitting?+

Email the school's examinations officer rather than the science teacher and ask for the board, the syllabus code, the tier and the components. Entries are the examinations officer's responsibility, and a teacher may know the course without knowing which tier an individual pupil was finally entered for. While you wait, look at the front of a past paper or a mock, which carries the code and component number. Keep the reply, because every later decision about tutoring, resits and tier changes depends on it.

What is the difference between triple science and the Cambridge double award?+

Triple science means three separate specifications, three sets of theory papers and three practical components, awarded as three grades. The Co-ordinated Sciences double award covers all three disciplines across a reduced content set and is awarded as two grades. The double award lightens a crowded Year 11 considerably without dropping a discipline. The catch is afterwards: sixth-form science courses vary in whether they accept it, and the position differs between A Level and the IB Diploma, so ask the destination sixth form directly.

Does the Core or Extended tier limit the grade my child can get?+

Yes, and that is the most important thing to establish early. A Cambridge Core entry accesses grades C to G; an Extended entry accesses A* to E. The ceiling comes from the entry rather than the teaching, so a child entered at Core cannot exceed grade C regardless of how well they are taught or tutored. Schools will discuss a tier change where the evidence supports it, but the conversation must happen before final entries close. Ask which tier your child is entered for in writing, this term.

What does the alternative-to-practical paper ask a Meydan student to do?+

It is a written paper that replaces the laboratory practical test, and most international centres in Dubai enter it. It asks a student to read apparatus diagrams, describe a method precisely enough to be repeated, name independent, dependent and controlled variables, read scales with units, identify an anomalous result with a plausible cause, and propose a specific improvement. The marks are procedural rather than factual, so three or four sessions of having their own method answers marked against a published scheme usually produces a visible change.

Why does my child enjoy laboratory work and still lose practical marks?+

Because the paper most Dubai centres enter tests laboratory thinking on paper, not laboratory skill at a bench. A confident practical student often writes a vague method, such as heat the liquid and record the temperature, where the scheme wanted the volume stated, the heating described and the measurement interval specified. A cautious classmate who writes carefully scores higher. The repair is to have several of their own written methods marked against the published criteria until precision becomes the habit rather than the exception.

Which exam series will an IGCSE science candidate in Meydan sit?+

Cambridge runs a June series and a November series, and UAE candidates sit those. The February and March series exists but is offered to India only, so material written for Indian candidates circulates online with entry deadlines that do not apply here. Pearson Edexcel International GCSE examinations are available in a May and June window and in November. Confirm the series with your school's examinations officer rather than a search result, and work from the live official timetable rather than any restatement of it.

Our examinations officer mentioned a timetable zone. What does that mean?+

Cambridge allocates every examination centre to one of six administrative zones worldwide, and each zone has its own version of the timetable. Cambridge states that it is essential to use the correct version for your zone and that it cannot accept responsibility for candidates who miss an examination after using the wrong one. Practically, that means the only timetable worth printing is the one your centre confirms. A timetable found through a search engine may belong to another zone entirely, and the consequence falls on the candidate.

Should my child resit a science in November or wait for the next June?+

It depends on what the grade is for. A November entry returns a result in the January window, which can be in time for some sixth-form arrangements and too late for others, so check with whoever holds the offer before deciding. November also gives a short, focused preparation period, which suits a student who missed a grade narrowly and knows which paper cost them. Waiting for June gives more teaching time, which suits a student with a broader content gap rather than a technique problem.

How many science subjects should we tutor in the final term of Year 11?+

Fewer than most families start with. Three weekly science hours in the final term is a large commitment that usually diagnoses nothing, because the household cannot tell which change produced which result. The better sequence is one timed paper per discipline, marked together, to find out where the marks are actually going, then concentrate on the weakest one plus a shared practical-skills block. That pattern costs less and produces information, which is what the final term is short of.

Can my child practise with past papers from the other board?+

Sparingly, and only for content. Cambridge and Pearson Edexcel examine similar science through different question styles, mark scheme conventions and command word usage, so a student who practises mostly on the wrong board builds fluency in the wrong format and then meets the real paper cold. Use the entered board's papers for timed practice and technique work. The other board's questions are a reasonable source of extra content drilling once the specification and style are secure, and not before.

How many IGCSE passes does UAE equivalency actually require on the British track?+

The published clarification for the British track states five accredited subjects at GCSE or IGCSE with a grade of no less than E or grade 3, with Arabic and Islamic education not included among the five, plus one accredited Advanced Level subject at no less than E or two accredited Advanced Subsidiary subjects at the same grade. One ranking competitor in this market tells UAE candidates six subjects are required, which does not match the source. Verify your own case on moe.gov.ae or with the attestation authority rather than relying on any tutoring site.

Which schools do Meydan science students usually attend?+

There is no secondary school inside Meydan, so the cohort sits elsewhere. The nearest belt is Nad Al Sheba, with Repton School Dubai, Kent College Dubai, GEMS Modern Academy and North London Collegiate School Dubai within a short drive. Across Ras Al Khor Road families use Hartland International School, Deira International School, Dubai English Speaking College and Swiss International Scientific School Dubai. They do not all enter the same board or tier, which is why the specification question comes before the tutor question. No affiliation with any of them is implied.

Can science really be tutored online when the laboratory is at school?+

For the paper most Dubai centres enter, yes, and arguably better. The alternative-to-practical component is a written exercise about apparatus diagrams, method, variables, anomalies and improvements, so annotating diagrams on a shared screen with the mark scheme open is a close match to the examination itself. The laboratory work remains the school's job and the school does it. What tutoring adds is the written precision the paper pays for, which is exactly the part a bench session would not address.

Does IB Gram send a science tutor to a house in Meydan?+

No. IB Gram does not offer home visits in Dubai or anywhere else in the UAE; that service runs only in India. Science support for Meydan families is one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time, with the correct board's papers and apparatus diagrams on a shared screen and a recording the student keeps. Meydan also makes the practical case: the approach from Al Quoz or Al Khail Road between four and six is slow, so a local tutor's earliest offer is usually later than the hour a family wanted.

What does a block of IGCSE science tutoring cost in Dubai?+

Published rates put qualified online subject tutoring at roughly AED 150 to 300 an hour, with Unitors stating an IGCSE rate from AED 150. Budget online tutoring advertises much lower, from around AED 33 to 65 at Tutopiya and EdFlik. In-home one-to-one is quoted separately at AED 180 to 500 because travel sits inside the figure. Bestimate's monthly estimates for a weekly hour run AED 240 to 600 at the budget end and AED 600 to 1,200 in the middle band. Those are market figures read in October 2026, not our price list.

What if no specialist in our board and tier is free at our Meydan hour?+

We tell you, with a date. Specialists in a particular specification and tier within the late-afternoon Gulf window are genuinely finite, and a triple-science household frequently needs two slots rather than one. Sometimes the answer is a different hour, sometimes a different weekday, sometimes a short wait. What we will not do is put a generalist in the slot and present them as a specialist. No competitor page we examined in this market discloses a coverage limit at all.

Get the code, then get the tutor

One email to your school's examinations officer, asking for the board, the syllabus code, the tier and the components, will do more for your child's science grade than a week of searching. Send us those details with the school name and the hour that works on a Meydan weekday, and we will say whether a specialist in that specification is free. The first lesson is free, no card is needed, and sessions run one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time with the right board's papers on screen. If we cannot cover your specification at your hour, you will hear that with a date rather than a substitute.
