IB Chemistry Tutor in Meydan

Finding an IB Chemistry tutor in Meydan is rarely a problem of distance. It is a problem of syllabus knowledge: the Diploma Chemistry course was reorganised, and a good number of people advertising for it are still teaching the structure it replaced. This page tells you how to test that in twenty minutes, what the current assessment actually contains, and where Meydan students lose marks. Lessons run one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time.

  • Specialists teaching the current Chemistry course, not the one it replaced
  • Three questions you can ask any tutor to test syllabus knowledge
  • One-to-one over live video; no home visits anywhere in the UAE
  • Free first lesson with the named tutor, no card required

IB & IGCSE in Meydan

The question behind the search is not distance

A parent typing this search is usually asking one thing: is there anybody near us who genuinely knows this course. It is a fair question and the honest answer is uncomfortable. Diploma Chemistry was restructured, and the content a student meets now is organised into Structure 1 to 3 and Reactivity 1 to 3 rather than the numbered topic list that preceded it. The assessment changed with it. Paper 1 now contains a data-based section alongside the multiple-choice section, and the old practical scheme of work and group project have gone, replaced by a single scientific investigation marked against four published criteria.

None of that is obscure. It is in the subject guide and every chemistry teacher in a Nad Al Sheba school works to it daily. The trouble is that a large part of the tutoring market does not. A tutor who taught Diploma Chemistry competently five years ago, has not taught it since, and advertises on the strength of that experience will describe a paper structure your child does not sit. They will often be an excellent chemist. They will still send a DP2 student into a data-based section they have never practised.

Distance is almost irrelevant to this problem and Meydan makes that unusually clear. There is no secondary school inside Meydan. The cohort sits in Nad Al Sheba, where North London Collegiate School Dubai, Repton School Dubai, GEMS Modern Academy and Kent College Dubai are clustered, or across Ras Al Khor Road at Hartland International School and Swiss International Scientific School Dubai. Whether a tutor lives ten minutes from your villa or in a different time zone has no bearing on whether they know what criterion D asks for. The second fact bears on your child's grade. The first does not.

So this page is built around verification rather than reassurance. There is a section that gives you three questions to put to any chemistry tutor, ours included, with the answers you should expect. There is a component-by-component map of where the marks sit. There is an honest account of where Meydan students actually lose chemistry marks, which is less about memory than about the way long-answer credit is awarded. And there is a plain statement of what a tutor may and may not touch on the investigation, because that boundary is where the real risk in this subject lives.

On delivery: IB Gram does not sell home visits in Dubai or anywhere in the UAE. That service runs only in India. Chemistry support for Meydan families is one-to-one over live video, timed to Gulf Standard Time, with a shared whiteboard, a past paper visible to both sides and a recording the student keeps. The reason is the same reason the syllabus question matters. The people who know this course well are a small group, and selecting from them on the basis of who can cross Ras Al Khor Road by six o'clock throws away the only criterion that counts.

IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Chemistry sits inside a programme, and the programme sets what a tutor should be able to describe without hesitating. A Meydan family may be at any point from an MYP sciences class to a DP2 student with an investigation deadline on the horizon.

DPAges 16-19 · DP1 and DP2

Diploma Programme Chemistry

Assessed on Paper 1, Paper 2 and the scientific investigation. Paper 1 holds a multiple-choice section and a data-based section; Paper 2 is structured long answer and carries 44%. The content is organised under Structure, covering models of the particulate nature of matter and bonding, and Reactivity, covering what drives and controls reactions. Higher Level runs to 240 teaching hours against 150 at Standard, with the extra depth loaded onto energetics, equilibrium and organic mechanisms.

In Meydan this is what most families are looking for, since the Nad Al Sheba IB schools run the full continuum. Ask the school which section the class is currently inside, then ask a prospective tutor to describe it. The two answers should match without translation.

MYPAges 11-16 · MYP 1-5

Middle Years Programme Sciences

Sciences is marked against four criteria out of eight each, covering knowledge and understanding, inquiring and designing, processing and evaluating, and reflecting on science in context. No external chemistry paper exists. The practical consequence is that a student can hold a strong MYP science grade with limited stoichiometric fluency, because criterion A rewards explanation and the Diploma rewards a calculation that survives scrutiny.

Meydan students at the continuum schools in Nad Al Sheba usually discover this in the first term of DP1. A short block on moles, concentration and limiting reagents in MYP 5 is the most efficient chemistry help a Dubai family can buy, and it is almost never bought then.

IGCSEAges 14-16 · Years 10-11

IGCSE Chemistry as the entry route

Many Meydan students arrive at Diploma Chemistry from Cambridge 0620 or Pearson 4CH1 rather than the MYP, often after Years 10 and 11 at Repton School Dubai or Kent College Dubai. IGCSE chemistry rewards recall of reactions and trends; the Diploma asks why a trend exists and demands that the reasoning be visible. A student who scored highly through memorisation frequently finds DP1 tests marking them down for answers they consider correct.

For families on this route the useful purchase is a short bridging block over the summer before DP1, not a term of rescue work in November. Dubai providers charge their usual rate in July for work that is substantially easier then.

CPAges 16-19

Certificate and Career-related study

A smaller group takes Diploma Chemistry as a single certificate course or alongside the Career-related Programme. The subject assessment is identical, investigation included, but without Theory of Knowledge and the Extended Essay the weekly load looks very different and a sensible tutoring commitment is correspondingly lighter.

For a Meydan household this usually means one subject needs attention rather than a whole timetable, so the honest recommendation is a short block and a review rather than a standing weekly slot.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

Chemistry rarely travels alone in a Diploma timetable. These are the subjects Meydan families most often pair with it, with a note on what each one demands of a tutor who claims to cover it.

Chemistry

HL and SL

Structure and Reactivity across six sections, two papers and a 24-mark investigation. A tutor who cannot name the six sections and say which paper the data-based questions sit in is describing a course your child does not sit.

Biology

HL and SL

Shares the investigation structure and the same four criteria, so one methodology conversation serves both sciences. Families paying twice for separate investigation reviews in two sciences are usually paying twice for one discussion.

Physics

HL and SL

Overlaps strongly on uncertainty, significant figures and graph gradients, which are exactly the skills the data-based section rewards. A student who handles error treatment in one science usually gains in the other.

Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches

HL and SL

Logarithms, indices and rates of change surface inside chemistry questions on pH, kinetics and equilibrium before the maths class has finished covering them. This pairing is the most common double booking we see in Dubai.

Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation

HL and SL

Lighter on algebraic manipulation, heavier on modelling and statistics. Students taking it alongside Higher Level Chemistry often need deliberate algebra practice their own timetable will not provide.

Environmental Systems and Societies

HL and SL

Taken by some students in place of a second experimental science. Less calculation, considerably more structured writing, which shifts a household's tutoring need from numerical fluency to argument construction.

Sports, Exercise and Health Science

HL and SL

A frequent partner subject at the Nad Al Sheba schools. It carries its own internal assessment, so a student taking it with Chemistry faces two coursework pieces competing for the same DP1 spring.

Design Technology

HL and SL

A large coursework load that collides with the chemistry investigation window in most school calendars. Worth checking the two internal deadlines against each other before booking any weekly slot.

Theory of Knowledge

Core

An assessed essay and exhibition outside subject teaching that still consumes DP2 evenings, usually in the same month as a science investigation deadline. Relevant to scheduling even though no chemistry tutor touches it.

Extended Essay

Core

Four thousand words of independent work. A chemistry Extended Essay needs supervision on scope and method rather than content, which is a different purchase from weekly subject teaching and should be priced as one.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three formats, each suited to a different chemistry problem. The syllabus-knowledge test applies to all of them, because a format cannot rescue a tutor describing a course that no longer exists.

Weekly one-to-one, 60 minutes

The right purchase while content is still being taught. One section segment, a short diagnostic and a set problem fits comfortably into an hour. It does not fit a timed Paper 2 attempt plus the marking conversation that makes the attempt worth anything, which is why this format quietly stops working in DP2.

  • Anchored to the section the school is actually teaching
  • One concept per session rather than a syllabus sweep
  • Written note each time, naming the specific gap found
  • Slot moves rather than disappearing when something clashes

Ninety-minute past-paper sessions

Where chemistry marks are actually recovered. A section of Paper 2 sat under timing, then marked against the published scheme with the student watching, shows where long-answer credit is being dropped. Organic mechanisms and equilibrium explanations are the usual culprits and neither reveals itself in a content lesson.

  • Built around the student's own mock script where one exists
  • Marked with the student present, never returned as a bare score
  • Attention on the stated reasoning, not the final value
  • Usually booked as a block through the final two terms

Scientific investigation supervision

A short series of reviews rather than a standing commitment. Four criteria, six marks each, a 3,000-word ceiling and a deadline set by the school. The tutor questions the research design, the uncertainty treatment and the evaluation; the student makes every decision and writes every word. This is the one block where timing matters more than quantity.

  • Research question interrogated before any data is collected
  • Uncertainty and anomaly handling checked against criterion B
  • Evaluation read against criterion D, the usual mark sink
  • No drafting, no supplied data, no editing to completion

A single diagnostic block

Two or three hours aimed at one bad school assessment rather than at the subject. It answers the question a parent actually has, which is whether the problem is content, method or timing. It is the cheapest way to avoid committing a term to the wrong target.

  • Starts from the marked script the school already produced
  • Priced as a block rather than a standing arrangement
  • Ends with a written statement of the real gap
  • May convert into weekly work, or into nothing

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Meydan

01

Three questions that reveal whether a tutor knows this course

You do not need to be a chemist to test this. You need three questions and the patience to listen to the shape of the answer rather than its confidence. Ask first how the course content is organised. The answer you want describes Structure and Reactivity, three sections each, covering models of matter and bonding on one side and what drives and controls reactions on the other. An answer that recites numbered topics from the previous structure is describing a course your child is not sitting, and the person giving it has not opened the current subject guide.

Ask second what sits inside Paper 1. The answer should mention both the multiple-choice section and the data-based section, because Paper 1 is no longer a single multiple-choice exercise and the data-based questions are where procedural marks are won and lost. A tutor who treats Paper 1 as pure multiple choice will drill content recall and never touch uncertainty, significant figures or graph interpretation, which is a systematic gap rather than an oversight.

Ask third what the internal assessment is and how it is marked. The current answer is a single scientific investigation, 24 marks across four criteria of six, roughly a fifth of the subject grade, with a 3,000-word ceiling and a deadline set by the school rather than by the IB. A tutor who mentions a practical scheme of work or a group project is working from a scheme that has been replaced. That matters practically: it is the difference between advising your child on a report that exists and one that does not.

Put all three to us as well. The reason this page opens with a test rather than a claim is that every provider in this market writes the same adjectives, and a parent cannot distinguish between them on copy. Three questions and ten minutes on a free trial call distinguishes them completely. Keep the answers in writing if you can, because a tutor who gives a vague answer in conversation tends to give a precise one once it is being recorded.

Where the chemistry marks actually sit

Paper 2 is the largest pot of marks in the subject at 44% of the grade, and it is structured long answer. The published mark schemes award credit in pieces: the principle stated, the substitution shown, the conclusion drawn. A student who writes a correct final value with no visible reasoning collects a fraction of what was available, and this is the most common single reason a confident chemist underperforms on paper. It is also the most tutorable thing in the subject, and the part cheap tutoring touches least, because marking a long answer properly takes longer than teaching the content did.

Paper 1 carries 36% and does two jobs. The multiple-choice section penalises speed and misread stems rather than ignorance; most students fix it by sitting timed sets alone. The data-based section is different. It asks for uncertainty treatment, gradient work, unit handling and judgement about anomalies, and those are procedural skills that transfer directly to the investigation. A revision plan that treats Paper 1 as one block almost always drills the half that needs no help.

The scientific investigation holds the remaining 20%. Four criteria, six marks each: research design, data analysis, conclusion and evaluation. The school marks it and the school sets the deadline. Criterion D, evaluation, is where marks most reliably disappear, because students name a limitation without explaining what effect it had on the result. That is a teachable move and a single session can change it, provided a draft already exists for the conversation to be about.

The upshot for a Meydan family planning a year is that the money should move. DP1 is content plus one or two investigation reviews. The mock window buys diagnosis. DP2 buys timed Paper 2 marking and data-based practice. A household that keeps buying the same sixty-minute content hour for two years will spend more and get less than one that changes format twice.

Where Meydan students lose chemistry marks, specifically

  • Organic mechanisms: products learnt, electron movement not
  • Equilibrium: the conclusion written, the reason omitted
  • pH and logarithms: a maths gap mistaken for a chemistry gap
  • Data-based questions: uncertainty treated as decoration
  • School calendars differ, so ask which section the class is on

Organic mechanisms are the most common collapse point, and the reason is diagnosable. Students learn the products of a reaction and not the movement of electrons, so they can state what forms but not justify why, and Higher Level questions ask for the justification. The repair is mechanical rather than mysterious: draw the mechanism repeatedly, with the curly arrows placed and explained, until the pattern generalises. It is slow work and it responds well to a weekly hour, which makes it one of the better uses of money in the whole course.

Equilibrium and energetics fail differently. Here students can usually do the calculation and cannot explain the direction of a shift in words that earn the mark. A question asking why a yield changes when the temperature rises wants the enthalpy change referenced and the shift stated as a consequence. Students write the conclusion and omit the because, and the mark scheme pays for the because. Once a student has seen three marked examples of their own writing fail on this point, it generally stops happening.

Acids, bases and the pH family cause trouble for a reason that is not chemical. The mathematics of logarithms frequently arrives in the chemistry class before the maths class has covered it properly, so a student who understands the chemistry stalls on the arithmetic and concludes they do not understand the chemistry. This is why Chemistry and Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches are so often tutored together in Dubai, and why a chemistry tutor who notices the real problem is worth more than one who drills pH questions.

Finally there is the school-specific element. The Nad Al Sheba schools and the Hartland schools run different internal calendars, so two Meydan students in the same community can be examined on different sections in the same month. A tutor who asks which section the class is inside, rather than assuming a standard sequence, avoids a term of teaching slightly ahead or slightly behind the class. That single question is worth asking in the first session.

04

Does a nearby tutor beat a specialist on a screen?

This is the trade the search is really about, so it deserves a straight answer rather than a sales one. A tutor who lives in Nad Al Sheba or District One can sit at your table, which is genuinely valuable for a younger student who will not work without a person present. For a DP2 chemistry student, the thing that moves the grade is somebody who can look at a marked Paper 2 answer and say precisely which of the available marks was not earned and why. Those two qualities are unrelated, and in a pool this small they rarely coexist in the same person within driving distance.

Meydan sharpens it further. The drive in from Al Quoz or along Al Khail Road between four and six o'clock is substantial, so a local tutor's earliest offer is often later than the hour a family wants, and the set of specialists who clear both the subject bar and the commute bar is very small. Online delivery removes the commute from the selection criteria and leaves only the subject bar, which is the one that affects the grade. That is the argument in full. It is logistical, not technological.

IB Gram does not offer home visits in Dubai or anywhere in the UAE, and that is worth saying before a parent spends time asking. Home visits are a service we run only in India. What we sell to Meydan families is one-to-one live video on Gulf Standard Time: shared whiteboard, the same past paper on both screens, mechanisms drawn as they are explained, and a recording the student can return to the night before a test. A kitchen table does one thing better, which is hold a reluctant student still. Both facts are true and you should weigh them rather than be sold one.

The market prices the difference openly enough. Published Dubai rates put qualified online subject tutoring at roughly AED 150 to 300 an hour and in-home one-to-one at AED 180 to 500, with Bestimate's table showing 180 to 350 and independent tutors asking 200 to 500. The spread between the two formats is travel. Unitors states an IB rate from AED 200 and TutorChase lists AED 270; those are their published figures, read in October 2026, and not ours.

What a chemistry tutor may and may not touch on the investigation

  • Four criteria, six marks each, authenticated by the school
  • The student chooses the research question; the tutor questions it
  • Feedback names the unmet criterion and goes no further
  • No supplied data, no redrawn graphs, no editing to completion
  • The academic-honesty consequence falls on the student

The scientific investigation must be the student's own work. The school authenticates it, it carries roughly a fifth of the subject grade, and a breach is an academic-honesty matter whose consequences land on the student rather than the tutor. Stating the boundary precisely is therefore not legal decoration. It is the most useful thing a provider can publish about this part of the course, and in a search results page where one competitor advertises completed internal assessments at a fixed price, it is also a meaningful difference.

A tutor may teach the chemistry the investigation depends on. A tutor may ask whether a research question can be answered with the apparatus available in a school laboratory, whether the independent variable is genuinely controllable, and whether the planned range will produce a trend worth analysing at all. A tutor may explain what criterion B expects from uncertainty and anomaly treatment, show the published criteria wording, and read the student's own draft to say which criterion is not yet satisfied. A tutor may point at an evaluation paragraph and note that a limitation has been named without its effect being explained.

A tutor may not select the research question, write or part-write the report, supply data, redraw the student's graphs, rewrite a conclusion or edit a draft into a finished state. IB Gram provides none of those things and will decline to. If a provider in this market has quoted you a price for a completed investigation, that is what is being sold, and the exposure it creates for your child is worth understanding before any money changes hands.

The same line runs through the Extended Essay and Theory of Knowledge. Questioning, teaching and feedback on the student's own work are legitimate and genuinely valuable. Production is not, and no amount of careful wording changes that.

06

The regulator, the permit and what a parent can verify alone

Dubai's private schools are overseen by the Knowledge and Human Development Authority, described on u.ae as responsible for enhancing and overseeing the quality of private education in the emirate. Every school a Meydan chemistry student attends falls under it. The national picture is wider than most tutoring pages admit: Abu Dhabi and Al Ain sit with ADEK, which supervises the licensing and accreditation of private schools there; Sharjah with the Sharjah Private Education Authority; Ras Al Khaimah with its Department of Knowledge; and Ajman, Umm Al Quwain and Fujairah with the federal Ministry of Education. Sharjah's and Ras Al Khaimah's authorities also approve tuition fees, curricula, programmes, courses, activities and assessment methods.

Tutoring itself is a different file. The private tuition work permit comes from the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation under Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, is granted free of charge for two years, and is open to registered school teachers, government and private-sector employees, unemployed residents, university students and school students aged 15 to 18. MoHRE's own service page lists no fee and a two-working-day completion time, applied for through its app, website or e-services system. Anyone tutoring without one is subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws; no schedule of amounts is published, so nobody should be quoting you one.

That gives a Meydan parent a second cheap verification to run alongside the syllabus questions. Ask any prospective chemistry tutor, ours included, whether they hold the MoHRE private tuition permit, and ask to see it. It is free to obtain, so there is no reason for a working tutor to lack one. Separately, a provider operating from premises in Dubai needs a KHDA Educational Services Permit, which has its own initial-approval step, a six-month window to complete the licence steps and an annual renewal requested at least thirty days before expiry.

For the avoidance of doubt: IB Gram holds no approval, accreditation, licence or partnership from KHDA, ADEK, SPEA, the Ministry of Education, the IB, Cambridge or Pearson, and nothing on this site should be read as claiming one. We are an independent platform matching families with subject specialists and teaching online. Explaining what a regulator does is useful. Implying it stands behind us would not be.

Arabic, Islamic Education and Social Studies beside a Diploma science load

  • Required in all Dubai private schools regardless of licensed curriculum
  • Separate classes for Arabs and non-Arabs; combined classes prohibited
  • Counted in 40-minute units, with 25 minutes the advised floor
  • No additional content without prior Ministry of Education permission
  • Map these periods before you pick a weekly chemistry hour

A Meydan family running a Diploma timetable is also running a mandatory one, and it takes real space out of the week. KHDA requires Arabic, Islamic Education and Social or Moral Studies in all Dubai private schools whatever international curriculum the school is licensed for, with the requirements to be implemented by the start of the 2025-26 academic year, or April 2026 for schools whose year begins in April. For a DP1 student already carrying six subjects, Theory of Knowledge, an Extended Essay and a chemistry investigation, those periods are the reason the evening is narrower than the timetable suggests.

The organisation rules are explicit. For Arabic as a first language, Islamic Education and Social Studies, schools must run separate classes for Arabs and non-Arabs, and KHDA states that combined classes are strictly prohibited because the curriculum expectations and language of instruction differ. Standard Arabic must be the main language of instruction for Islamic Education for Arabs and for Arabic as a first language. Social Studies for Arab students is taught primarily in Arabic, while non-Arabs take Islamic Education and Moral, Social and Cultural studies in the school's licensed-curriculum language. Teachers of Arabic and Islamic Education must hold the appropriate KHDA approval.

Timing is counted in 40-minute lesson units. Schools may vary the length provided the weekly total is met, and KHDA advises that no mandatory subject lesson should run shorter than 25 minutes. There is a content constraint too: for these subjects, using different or additional content without prior permission from the Ministry of Education is strictly prohibited, which rules out the supplementary-workbook approach a family might sensibly take in chemistry.

The practical conclusion is about scheduling rather than content. Map the whole week, including the mandatory periods and whatever sport or activity the student does, before choosing a chemistry slot. A slot chosen from the full picture survives the term; one chosen from the chemistry timetable alone usually gets moved three times and then dropped.

08

Starting from Meydan, with the limits said out loud

  • Say the school, the level and the section the class is inside
  • Run the three syllabus questions on the free trial call
  • Free first lesson with the named tutor, no card needed
  • An honest no, with a date, when no specialist is free
  • A deliberate format change after the mocks rather than a drift

Begin with a conversation rather than a booking. Tell us the school in Nad Al Sheba or across Ras Al Khor Road, the level, which section the class is currently inside, the current grades and the hour that genuinely works. We will say whether a Diploma Chemistry specialist is free in that window. If the answer is no, you get the no, because the alternative is a generalist at a specialist rate and that is the substitution this market makes most often.

Then take the free trial lesson with the person who would actually teach your child. There is no card, no commitment and no automatic enrolment. Use it to run the three questions from earlier in this page. A tutor who names the six sections, describes both halves of Paper 1 and explains the four investigation criteria without prompting has told you more in five minutes than any provider's copy can.

Coverage limits are worth saying plainly because nobody else does. The group of people who can teach the current Diploma Chemistry course and mark its long-answer papers accurately is small, and the late-afternoon Gulf window is the most requested in the country. Sometimes the honest answer is a different hour, sometimes a different day, sometimes a fortnight's wait. You will get which, with a date.

After that the working pattern is simple and deliberately unexciting. Weekly sessions aimed at a named target, a written note each time, a format review twice a year, and an explicit decision after the mock window about moving from content work to timed paper marking. The plan drives the money rather than the calendar driving it.

Where we tutor

Nearby areas we cover around Meydan

Meydan has no school of its own, so the places that matter are the ones its families drive to and from. Each one changes something practical about chemistry tutoring rather than something cosmetic.

Nad Al Sheba

The school belt Meydan uses, with four secondary schools inside a few minutes of each other. Which one your child attends sets the chemistry internal deadline and the term dates a tutoring plan has to respect.

Sobha Hartland

Across the Ras Al Khor side. Hartland International School and North London Collegiate School Dubai draw from both communities, so two Meydan neighbours can be sitting different boards on different calendars.

Mohammed Bin Rashid City and District One

The same evening in practice. Larger villa households here are the ones most likely to need two sciences covered in one week, which is where a methodology conversation can be shared rather than bought twice.

Al Jaddaf

Swiss International Scientific School Dubai sits here and draws bilingual Diploma families from the whole corridor. A bilingual Diploma adds a language demand that a chemistry specialist cannot and should not pretend to cover.

Business Bay

Where many Meydan parents work. The five o'clock return is why some families take a later chemistry slot even though the student has been home since four.

Al Quoz and Al Khail Road

The direction an in-home tutor would travel from, and the reason a local quote arrives with a later start time than you asked for. It is also why local specialist availability thins after five.

Downtown Dubai and DIFC

Close off-peak and considerably further inside it. Families scheduling a chemistry session around a Downtown activity should count the return leg, which is normally what breaks the booking.

Ras Al Khor and Nad Al Hamar

The eastern edge of the drive, where late-afternoon congestion through the interchange shapes every in-home quote in this part of Dubai.

All four are a short drive from any Meydan address and each runs chemistry on its own internal calendar. Ask your school's science coordinator which of the six course sections the class is currently inside; a tutor who cannot discuss that answer is not ready for your child.

  • North London Collegiate School Dubai
  • Repton School Dubai
  • GEMS Modern Academy
  • Kent College Dubai

Sobha Hartland, Al Jaddaf and the central corridor

Reached across Ras Al Khor Road, and used by a large share of Meydan households. Between them these schools run the IB continuum, the bilingual Diploma and the IGCSE-to-A-Level route, so chemistry cohorts here are genuinely mixed.

  • Hartland International School
  • Swiss International Scientific School Dubai
  • Deira International School
  • Dubai English Speaking College

These schools are named as the ecosystem a Meydan chemistry student sits inside; no affiliation, endorsement or relationship with any of them is implied.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Name the school and the section

Which Nad Al Sheba or Hartland school, which level, and which of the six course sections the class is working through now. That last detail is the one most families leave out and the one that stops a tutor teaching a fortnight ahead of or behind the class.

  2. 02

    Run the three questions

Ask how the content is organised, what sits inside Paper 1, and what the internal assessment is and how it is marked. Put them to us and to anyone else you are considering. The shape of the answers separates current specialists from people working from an older subject guide.

  3. 03

    Take the free trial lesson

Sixty minutes with the named tutor, at no cost and with no card. You get a written note afterwards describing the gap the tutor found, which is useful information even if you decide to go no further with us.

  4. 04

    Agree the target in writing

Content teaching, data-based skills, timed Paper 2 marking or investigation supervision. Writing the target down makes the spend auditable three months later, when it is otherwise impossible to tell whether the weekly hour has drifted off the thing it was bought for.

  5. 05

Review the format twice a year

Read the session notes. Three consecutive notes describing the same gap means the format is wrong rather than the student. The usual change is from sixty-minute content work to ninety-minute past-paper marking once the mocks have been sat and returned.

  6. 06

    Finish and stop

When the identified gap has closed and timed answers are landing where they should, the work is done. A provider who never says that is selling a subscription. We would rather you came back for the investigation window than paid through a term that has nothing left to fix.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

Tutors who teach the course as it is now

Structure and Reactivity, both halves of Paper 1, and the four investigation criteria. We put the same three questions to our own specialists that this page asks you to put to us, because a chemist describing a replaced syllabus is the most common failure in this market.

Verification you can do yourself

Three syllabus questions and one permit request. None of it requires chemistry knowledge and all of it can be done on a free trial call, which is a better basis for a decision than any provider's description of its own tutors.

Selection on syllabus, not on driving distance

Online delivery means the specialist your child gets is chosen for knowing the current course rather than for being able to cross Ras Al Khor Road by six. That is the whole practical case for the format, and it is a logistical argument rather than a preference.

The investigation boundary is published

A tutor teaches, questions and gives feedback on the student's own work. No supplied data, no drafting, no finished reports. It is on the page because the consequence of getting it wrong falls on your child, and because at least one provider in this market sells the opposite.

No regulator claimed as a backer

IB Gram holds no KHDA, ADEK, SPEA, Ministry of Education, IB, Cambridge or Pearson approval, accreditation or partnership, and claims none. We describe what each body does and point you at its own pages so you can check rather than trust.

Coverage limits stated before you pay

Diploma Chemistry specialists in the late-afternoon Gulf window are genuinely finite. When we cannot fill a slot properly we tell you and give a date, instead of seating someone less suitable and charging as though we had not.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Meydan: your questions answered

Is there actually anyone near Meydan who knows the current IB Chemistry course?+

Proximity is the wrong filter, and in Meydan it is an especially poor one because there is no secondary school inside the community. The real question is whether a tutor can describe the content as Structure 1 to 3 and Reactivity 1 to 3, name both halves of Paper 1, and explain the four investigation criteria. People who can do that are a small group nationally, and restricting them to those who can drive to your villa by six o'clock makes the group much smaller without improving it. We select on the syllabus answer and teach online.

How can a parent who is not a chemist check a tutor's syllabus knowledge?+

Three questions, no chemistry required. Ask how the content is organised; you want Structure and Reactivity, three sections each. Ask what is inside Paper 1; you want both the multiple-choice and the data-based sections named. Ask what the internal assessment is; you want one scientific investigation, 24 marks over four criteria, a 3,000-word ceiling and a school-set deadline. An answer that lists numbered topics, calls Paper 1 pure multiple choice, or mentions a group project is describing a course your child does not sit.

What changed when the Diploma Chemistry course was reorganised?+

The content was regrouped under Structure, which covers models of the particulate nature of matter and bonding, and Reactivity, which covers what drives and controls reactions, replacing the previous numbered topic list. Paper 1 gained a data-based section alongside the multiple-choice section. The old practical scheme of work and group project were replaced by a single scientific investigation marked against four published criteria. None of that is obscure to a school teacher, but a tutor who last taught the subject under the previous guide will describe the wrong paper structure confidently.

Why does my child get the right answer in chemistry and still lose marks?+

Because Paper 2 pays for reasoning, not for answers. It carries 44% of the grade and the mark schemes award credit separately for the principle stated, the substitution shown and the conclusion drawn. A correct final value with no visible working collects a fraction of what was available. This is the most fixable problem in the subject and the one cheap tutoring addresses least, because marking a long answer properly takes longer than teaching the content did. Sit a timed section, then mark it with the student watching.

Is the data-based part of Paper 1 worth tutoring separately?+

Yes, and it is routinely skipped. Paper 1 carries 36% and contains two unrelated challenges. The multiple-choice section responds to timed practice a student can do alone. The data-based section asks for uncertainty treatment, gradient work, unit handling and judgement about anomalies, which are procedural skills that also transfer straight into the investigation. A revision block aimed at Paper 1 as a single entity almost always drills content and leaves the procedural half untouched, so ask for it to be timetabled explicitly.

My child understands organic chemistry in class and collapses in tests. Why?+

Almost always because the products have been learnt and the electron movement has not. A student can state what forms without being able to justify why, and Higher Level questions ask for the justification. The repair is unglamorous and reliable: draw mechanisms repeatedly, with curly arrows placed and explained aloud, until the pattern generalises across reaction types. It is slow work that suits a weekly hour, which makes it one of the better-value purchases in the course. Expect several weeks rather than one session.

Is a pH problem in chemistry really a maths problem?+

Frequently, yes. Logarithms turn up in the chemistry class on acids and bases before the mathematics course has covered them securely, so a student who grasps the chemistry stalls on the arithmetic and concludes the chemistry is beyond them. A tutor who spots that treats the algebra directly rather than drilling more pH questions. It is one of the main reasons Chemistry and Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches are tutored together so often in Dubai, and it is worth raising in the first session.

How much of the chemistry grade does the scientific investigation carry?+

Roughly a fifth of the subject grade, marked out of 24 across four criteria of six marks each: research design, data analysis, conclusion and evaluation. The report has a 3,000-word ceiling, the school marks it, and the school sets the submission deadline rather than the IB. Criterion D, evaluation, is where marks most reliably disappear, because students name a limitation without explaining what effect it had on the result. That is teachable, and often a single session once a draft exists is enough to change it.

May a chemistry tutor suggest my child's investigation research question?+

No. The student chooses it. A tutor may question whether the chosen question can be answered with school apparatus, whether the independent variable is genuinely controllable and whether the planned range will produce a trend worth analysing, and those questions are where most of the value sits. What a tutor may not do is select the question, supply data, redraw graphs, write any part of the report or edit a draft into a finished state. IB Gram provides none of those. The school authenticates the work and the consequence of a breach falls on your child.

Does a Meydan family get a better chemistry tutor by paying for home visits?+

You get a person in the room, which matters for a younger or reluctant student and does not by itself improve subject depth. Published Dubai rates put in-home one-to-one at AED 180 to 500 an hour against roughly AED 150 to 300 for qualified online tutoring, and the spread is travel. Meydan adds a specific cost: the approach from Al Quoz or Al Khail Road between four and six means a local tutor's earliest offer is usually later than you wanted. IB Gram does not offer home visits anywhere in the UAE; that service runs only in India.

Which schools do Meydan chemistry students usually attend?+

Meydan has no school inside it, so the cohort forms elsewhere. The nearest belt is Nad Al Sheba, with North London Collegiate School Dubai, Repton School Dubai, GEMS Modern Academy and Kent College Dubai within a short drive. Across Ras Al Khor Road families use Hartland International School, Swiss International Scientific School Dubai, Deira International School and Dubai English Speaking College. Each sets its own investigation deadline and works through the course sections in its own order. These schools are named as context only; no affiliation is implied.

Does the course section my child's class is on actually matter to a tutor?+

It matters more than almost anything else in the first session. Schools in this corridor sequence the six sections differently, so two Meydan students in the same community can be assessed on different material in the same month. A tutor who asks which section the class is inside can align with the school's teaching; one who assumes a standard order spends a term slightly ahead or slightly behind, which feels like poor teaching to the student and is really a planning failure. Ask your science coordinator and pass the answer on.

Can you promise my child a 7 in Diploma Chemistry?+

No, and treat any provider who does with suspicion. Nobody controls the paper, the mark scheme, the grade boundaries or the amount of work a student does between sessions, so a promised grade is a sales device rather than a professional judgement. What a tutor can do is name the specific gap, evidence it from a marked script and say what closing it would take in hours. Several pages in this market publish outcome percentages with no sample size, date or method attached. Ask for the method and see what arrives.

Does an online chemistry tutor need a UAE permit?+

Private tutoring in the UAE runs on a permit. The private tuition work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, is granted free of charge for two years, and covers registered school teachers, government and private-sector employees, unemployed residents, university students and school students aged 15 to 18. MoHRE's service page lists no fee and a two-working-day completion time. Because it costs nothing, there is no good reason for a tutor working with UAE families to lack one, so ask to see it. No fine schedule is published, so no figure should be quoted at you.

How many chemistry sessions a week does a Higher Level student need?+

One well-aimed hour is the normal starting point, and the honest answer is that frequency matters less than target. A weekly hour on organic mechanisms through the autumn of DP2 does more than two scattered hours covering whatever came up that week. Around the mock window the useful shape changes: one ninety-minute timed section with the marking done together usually beats two sixty-minute content lessons. Expect to change format twice across the two years rather than to increase frequency, and read the session notes before you decide.

What if no Diploma Chemistry specialist is free in our Meydan slot?+

You get told, with a date. The group of people who teach the current Structure and Reactivity course and mark its long-answer papers accurately is small, and the late-afternoon Gulf window is the most requested in the country. Sometimes the answer is another hour, sometimes another weekday, sometimes a fortnight's wait. What we will not do is put a generalist in the slot and charge the specialist rate for them. No competitor page we examined in this market discloses a coverage limit at all.

Test the syllabus knowledge, then decide

The useful move in this search is not finding somebody nearby. It is asking three questions and listening to the shape of the answers: how the content is organised, what sits inside Paper 1, and what the internal assessment is and how it is marked. Put them to us on a free trial call with the named tutor who would teach your child. Tell us which Nad Al Sheba or Hartland school, which level and which section the class is on, and we will say whether a Diploma Chemistry specialist is free in your hour. Lessons are one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time, and if we cannot cover your slot properly you will hear that with a date attached.
