IB Maths Tutor in Meydan

Hiring an IB maths tutor in Meydan is a monthly decision, not an hourly one. Families here budget in months because that is how school fees, nursery and everything else in Dubai is billed, yet almost every tutoring site quotes a figure per hour and leaves the arithmetic to you. This page does the arithmetic: what a Meydan household actually spends across a term, what the spend buys at each level, and the three places the money reliably disappears. Lessons are one-to-one and online, on Gulf Standard Time.

IB & IGCSE in Meydan

Price a maths tutor the way Dubai prices everything else: by the month

Ask what a maths tutor costs in Dubai and you get an hourly rate, if you get a number at all. Ask a Meydan parent what they can spend and they answer in months, because that is how the household runs. School fees are termly, the nursery is monthly, the car is monthly. An hourly rate is a unit nobody budgets in, and the gap between the two is where families overcommit in September and quietly stop in February.

So this page starts from the monthly figure. In the Dubai market, a weekly one-hour session with a budget tutor lands roughly between AED 240 and 600 a month on Bestimate's own estimates. A mid-tier qualified tutor runs about AED 600 to 1,200 a month on the same basis. A specialist working with a student in an examination year sits around AED 1,000 to 2,000 and above. Published packages exist too: AED 799 a month for eight online sessions is a real advertised figure, as is AED 1,599 to 1,799 a month for four two-hour in-home visits. Those are other providers' numbers, read in October 2026, and they are the market rather than our price list.

What the monthly view exposes is that the hourly rate is rarely the expensive part. The expensive part is buying the wrong number of sessions for the wrong reason. Two sessions a week across two Diploma years, bought in a panic after one bad test, costs more than a house move and usually produces a student who waits to be taught rather than one who works. One well-used session a week for eight months, with marked practice between sessions, costs a third as much and does more. Where families in Meydan waste money is in duration and in diagnosis, not in the rate.

The second thing the monthly view exposes is the Analysis and Approaches versus Applications and Interpretation question, which is a cost question as much as an academic one. A student in the wrong course needs far more hours to reach the same grade, and no hourly rate makes that efficient. Getting the course right, or confirming it is right, is the cheapest intervention available in Diploma maths, and it is a single lesson's work.

IB Gram delivers all of this as one-to-one online tuition to Meydan over live video, matched on the course the student is sitting rather than on who lives nearby. We do not send tutors to homes in the UAE; home visits are a service we run in India only. The sections below give the monthly bands with sources, the AA and AI comparison, the paper weightings your child is marked against, and the three specific ways tutoring money gets wasted in this city.

IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Meydan sits in the middle of a cluster of IB and British-curriculum schools, which means a family's route into Diploma maths varies. These are the three programme contexts that change what a first maths lesson should contain, and each one has a different cost profile over a year.

DPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

Diploma Programme

Two years, two maths courses to choose between, and an internal exploration worth a fifth of the grade. Standard Level sits two papers of ninety minutes each, both carrying 40%. Higher Level sits three papers, with Papers 1 and 2 at 30% apiece and the shorter Paper 3 at 20%. Paper 1 is taken without a calculator in Analysis and Approaches, which is the single structural fact that most surprises students arriving from other systems.

In Meydan and along the central corridor, Diploma maths is taught at several schools within a short drive, but the courses offered differ: some run both Analysis and Approaches and Applications and Interpretation at both levels, others only one combination. That constrains the choice before a tutor is ever involved, so the first question in a Meydan maths consultation is always which courses the school actually timetables.

MYPAges 11-16 · Years 7-11

Middle Years Programme

MYP Mathematics is marked against four criteria and includes extended investigation work, which builds the habits the Diploma exploration needs. What it does not build, on its own, is the algebraic speed Paper 1 demands without a calculator. The cheapest maths tutoring a Dubai family ever buys is a short block in Year 10 or 11 that secures algebraic manipulation before Diploma content arrives on top of it.

Several central-corridor schools run MYP and then offer both the Diploma and A Levels at sixteen, so Meydan families face a genuine fork. For maths specifically, the Diploma suits students who want breadth and can carry the exploration; A Level Mathematics suits students who want depth in fewer subjects. Neither is harder in the abstract; they are hard in different places.

DP CoursesAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

Diploma Programme course candidate

Individual Diploma subjects taken for certificates rather than the full Diploma. In maths this route appears when a student needs Analysis and Approaches at Higher Level for an engineering or economics application but cannot carry the Extended Essay and Theory of Knowledge load alongside it. The maths syllabus, the papers and the exploration are identical to the full-Diploma version, so the tutoring is identical too.

Worth knowing in Meydan because the corridor sees a steady flow of mid-year arrivals from British, American and Indian systems. What a certificate route means for Ministry of Education equivalency is a question for the ministry's own attestation channel, not for a tutoring service, and we direct parents there rather than guessing on their behalf.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

Maths is the subject on this page, but the spend rarely stays in one subject. A Meydan family paying for Analysis and Approaches support often discovers the same algebra is costing marks in Physics or Economics. These are the courses our tutors cover, and what each one costs in time when maths is the underlying problem.

Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches

HL and SL

The page subject. Paper 1 is sat without a calculator, which exposes algebraic fluency immediately. Marks are lost in proof, in calculus where the chain rule meets a product, and in trigonometric identities that students recognise but cannot manipulate under time pressure.

Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation

HL and SL

The other Diploma maths course, heavier on statistics, modelling and graphic-display-calculator work. Students who move here from Analysis and Approaches to save effort are often surprised: the content is different rather than lighter, and the calculator skills are examinable.

Physics

HL and SL

The subject where weak maths shows up second. A student who cannot rearrange an equation confidently loses marks in Physics calculation questions that have nothing to do with physics. Fixing the algebra usually moves both grades, which changes the cost arithmetic.

Economics

HL and SL

Higher Level carries real quantitative work, and the internal assessment is a set of commentaries on published news articles. Students taking Applications and Interpretation alongside it benefit from shared statistics work rather than two separate tutoring arrangements.

Chemistry

HL and SL

Logarithms in pH calculations and the rearrangement in equilibrium problems are maths problems wearing a chemistry coat. We check for this pattern because it means one tutor can sometimes do the work two were booked for.

Computer Science

HL and SL

Taken by a growing number of central-corridor students. The discrete maths and algorithmic reasoning overlap with Analysis and Approaches topics, so a student strong in one tends to find the other less alien than they expected.

Business Management

HL and SL

A common pairing with Applications and Interpretation. The quantitative tools are modest but the interpretation demands are high, and students who treat the numbers as the whole answer lose the analysis marks.

English A: Language and Literature

HL and SL

Included here because extended-response marks in maths improve when written explanation improves. A student who can justify a method in words scores better on the exploration, which is a fifth of the maths grade.

Theory of Knowledge

Core

The TOK exhibition and essay land in the same term as the maths exploration for most Diploma students. Our support is structural rather than content-based: reading the prescribed title, building an argument, finding where marks are awarded.

Arabic B

HL and SL

Taken by many non-Arab students in Dubai schools alongside the KHDA-mandated Arabic provision. Oral assessment carries real weight, so preparation is conversational and the session format differs from a maths session.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three formats, all online, priced differently because they do different amounts of work. The monthly cost of each is what a Meydan parent should be comparing, so each description says how many sessions a month it implies rather than only what happens inside one.

Weekly one-to-one maths

One session a week, four or five a month, same tutor and same slot. This is the format that repairs algebraic foundations and paper technique over a couple of terms, and it is the cheapest effective option in the market because it leaves the student time to practise. The tutor works a little ahead of the school's scheme of work rather than behind it, so lessons prepare rather than patch.

  • Four to five sessions a month, one tutor throughout
  • Named practice set after each session and marked before the next
  • Paper 1 drilled without a calculator, deliberately and regularly
  • Written note to parents saying what is improving and what is not

Exploration coaching block

A short block, usually three to five sessions over a month, around the internal exploration that carries 20% of the maths grade. The tutor helps the student find a question with enough mathematics in it to reach the top criteria, checks the mathematical processes are at the right level, and gives written feedback on the student's draft. The student chooses the topic, does the mathematics and writes the report.

  • Topic narrowed until it carries the mathematics the criteria reward
  • Level of mathematics checked against the course, not against ambition
  • Written feedback on the student's own draft; no rewriting
  • Scheduled around the school's internal deadline, not ours

Intensive examination block

Two or three sessions a week for six to ten weeks before the examination session, which puts the monthly figure at the top of the market band for a defined period rather than indefinitely. Content order is set by the student's own marked mock. This is the format where a higher monthly spend is justified, because the time is short and the targets are specific.

  • Eight to twelve sessions a month for a fixed, agreed number of weeks
  • First session spent marking the mock question by question
  • Whole papers under timed conditions, including calculator papers
  • Block ends on the agreed date rather than renewing by default

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Meydan

01

What a Meydan family actually spends in a month

Here is the monthly view, which nobody else in this market publishes. The figures below convert the hourly bands advertised across Dubai into the unit a household budgets in, using the session frequencies families actually buy. Each band is attributed, and each is a market figure rather than an IB Gram price. Our own pricing follows a free trial lesson and a conversation about how many sessions the student needs, which is usually fewer than a parent fears in September.

Read down the table and the shape of the market becomes clear. The entry level is genuinely cheap: a university-student tutor at the bottom of the range costs less per month than a family's phone contracts. The top of the market, a specialist working intensively through an examination run, costs more per month than many car payments. Between those extremes sits the band where most Diploma maths tutoring actually happens, and the difference between its bottom and its top is roughly what one meal out a week costs.

The number worth staring at is the in-home monthly package: AED 1,599 to 1,799 for four two-hour visits. That is eight contact hours a month. The online equivalent advertised at AED 799 a month buys eight sessions rather than eight hours, which is a different thing, but the comparison still shows where the travel premium lands. For a Meydan address, in the middle of the corridor, that premium is real but not extreme. For a family further out it grows, and it buys nothing academic.

Analysis and Approaches or Applications and Interpretation: the costliest decision in Diploma maths

A student in the wrong maths course needs considerably more tutoring to reach the same grade, which makes course choice the highest-leverage spending decision a Meydan family makes. The two Diploma maths courses are not an easy version and a hard version. They are different mathematics with different assessment demands, and the decision should be made on what a student is good at and where they are going, not on which one a cousin found manageable.

Analysis and Approaches is algebraic and proof-oriented, with Paper 1 sat without a calculator. It suits students who like manipulation, who can hold a multi-step argument, and who are heading towards engineering, physical sciences, mathematics or competitive economics. Applications and Interpretation is modelling and statistics led, with calculator use expected throughout and a heavier emphasis on interpreting real data. It suits students heading towards business, social sciences, design and many life-science routes.

University expectations are where this gets expensive. Some degree programmes, particularly in engineering and mathematics, specify Analysis and Approaches at Higher Level, and a student who discovers that in DP2 cannot switch. Admissions requirements vary by institution and by year, including among UAE universities, so the correct move is to read the stated requirement on the university's own admissions page for the intake year rather than relying on any tutoring website. A single session spent checking that, early, saves more money than any hourly discount.

The cost of getting it wrong is worth quantifying. A student placed in Analysis and Approaches at Higher Level without the algebraic base for it typically needs weekly support across both Diploma years just to stay at a 4, which at mid-tier monthly rates is a four-figure annual commitment producing a grade nobody is happy with. The same student in Applications and Interpretation at Standard Level, or in Analysis and Approaches at Standard Level, may need a single term of support and then nothing. That is the difference between a choice and an expense, and it is settled in one conversation with the student, the teacher and a marked paper on the table.

The three ways tutoring money gets wasted in Dubai

  • Duration bought before diagnosis: eight months of sessions, no named problem
  • Specialist rates spent on homework supervision in DP1
  • Budget rates spent on Paper 3 and exploration work in DP2
  • Blocks that renew by default rather than ending on an agreed date
  • Two tutors booked for what is one underlying algebra problem
  • Group classes bought for a student whose issue is specific and personal

Having published the prices, the useful next step is saying where the spend fails. In our experience with Dubai families the waste is concentrated in three patterns, and all three are avoidable without spending less per hour. They are the reason two families with identical budgets get different results from the same market.

The first is buying duration instead of diagnosis. A parent panics after a poor test, books two sessions a week open-ended, and nobody ever establishes what is actually losing marks. Eight months later the spend is substantial and the student has become dependent on being talked through problems. The fix costs one lesson: mark the student's own paper with them, question by question, and name the pattern before buying anything.

The second is paying a specialist rate for work a cheaper tutor does equally well, and the reverse. Content recap and homework support genuinely do not need a Diploma specialist. Paper 3 technique, exploration feedback and no-calculator algebra genuinely do. Families often buy these the wrong way round, paying premium rates for homework supervision in DP1 and then economising in the term that actually decides the grade.

The third is the renewal that nobody questions. A block bought for a specific purpose keeps running after the purpose is met, because stopping feels like a risk. The honest version is a defined end date and a review, and a tutor who says the work is done. That conversation is uncomfortable to have and it is the single largest saving available on this page.

04

Tutoring cost in context: what else a Meydan household is paying

A monthly tutoring figure means little in isolation, so here it is against the rest of the education budget. The anchor is a useful one this year: KHDA confirmed in May 2026 that there would be no increase in private school fees in Dubai for the 2026-27 academic year, under Dubai's second economic incentives package valued at AED 1.5 billion within a AED 2.5 billion total. For once, the fee line in a Dubai family's budget is flat.

That matters for how tutoring should be judged. With fees held, a family's discretionary education spend is more visible than usual, and the question becomes whether a given monthly tutoring figure is the best use of it. Sometimes it is not. A student whose problem is organisation rather than mathematics may be better served by a study-skills intervention at school than by a specialist maths tutor at the top of the market band.

The table below sets the figures side by side. Fee bands are deliberately described rather than quoted, because Dubai school fees vary enormously by school and KHDA publishes the current figures school by school. The tutoring rows use the market bands from earlier on this page. The point of the comparison is proportion: for most families, effective weekly maths tutoring is a small fraction of a termly fee invoice, and ineffective twice-weekly tutoring across two years is not.

There is one further line families forget to budget for, which is the examination entry cost if a student ever sits a paper as a private candidate rather than through their school. That is unusual in the Diploma and more common with IGCSE resits, but it belongs in the same column of the household spreadsheet, and the figure comes from the examination centre rather than from a tutor. Ask the school first, because a student enrolled at an IB World School sits through the school and the entry is part of the fee structure already paid.

05

What the money buys at each level, in actual teaching behaviour

Price bands are abstract until you know what changes inside the lesson. The difference between a tutor at AED 60 an hour and one at AED 300 is not enthusiasm or politeness. It is a set of specific behaviours that only come from having taught the course to examination standard several times, and they are observable in a single trial lesson if you know what to listen for.

A budget tutor will typically explain a question the student is stuck on, correctly, and move to the next one. That is useful and it is not nothing. What it does not include is any model of why this student got stuck, whether the same gap will reappear in Paper 2, or how the mark scheme would treat the working. The session is reactive: the homework sets the agenda.

A specialist works the other way round. They arrive having looked at the student's marked work, they name the pattern, and they choose what the session covers even if it is not what the homework is about. They talk about method marks. They stop a student mid-question to ask what they would write if they could not finish. They set practice that targets the gap rather than practice that covers the chapter. That is what the extra AED 150 an hour pays for, and in DP2 it is worth it.

You can test for this in the free trial lesson. Ask the tutor afterwards what is costing your child marks and listen to how specific the answer is. 'They need to practise more' is a budget answer. 'They are losing method marks in calculus because they stop showing working once they can see the answer' is what you are paying a specialist for.

06

The Diploma maths year counted backwards from the May session

Spending decisions make more sense against a calendar. UAE IB schools sit the May examination session, and planning backwards from it shows where the money should sit. The table below counts back through the milestones that matter for maths, naming who sets each one, because families routinely assume the IB sets every deadline when the school sets most of the ones that actually bite.

Two cautions. We do not publish specific IB examination or results dates on these pages. The IB holds those and your child's Diploma coordinator holds the school's internal versions, including the exploration deadlines, which are the ones that move. Confirm every date with the coordinator rather than with a tutoring website, including this one. And treat an internal deadline as firm the moment it is announced, because schools do pull them forward.

Read for cost, the calendar says something clear. The cheap, high-value window is early DP1, when algebraic foundations are still fixable in a short block and the exploration topic has not yet been chosen badly. The expensive window is the eight to twelve weeks after the DP2 mock, when the work is remedial and the clock is short. Families who spend in the first window usually spend less in the second, and families who spend in neither spend the most of all, because a resit or a retaken year dwarfs any tutoring figure on this page.

There is a second reason to work from the calendar rather than from the school's weekly homework. Diploma maths does not exist on its own in a student's week. The exploration deadline tends to sit near the Extended Essay deadline and near at least one other subject's internal assessment, so the weeks when maths needs the most attention are the weeks when the student has the least to give. Knowing that in advance lets you move the intensive block earlier rather than fighting for evenings that are already committed. Your coordinator can tell you where those collisions fall for your child's cohort, and it is worth asking in DP1 rather than discovering it in DP2.

KHDA, the corridor's schools, and why the fee freeze matters here

Dubai's private schools are overseen by KHDA, the Knowledge and Human Development Authority, described on u.ae as responsible for enhancing and overseeing the quality of private education in the emirate. It inspects annually on a six-band scale from Outstanding to Very Weak and publishes the results school by school. For a Meydan parent, those reports are the most useful free document in the market, and they are more useful read in sections than in headlines.

A school's overall band is an average across phases and subjects. A strong secondary mathematics department can sit inside a school rated Good, and a weak one inside a school rated Outstanding. What matters for this page is the secondary mathematics commentary and the attainment and progress judgements for the relevant phase. Families comparing central-corridor schools should read those parts side by side rather than comparing single words.

The sector is also growing, which affects supply. Dubai's private schools served 387,441 students across 227 schools in 2024-25 across seventeen curricula, and the 2026-27 intake adds seven new private schools, four UK curriculum and three International Baccalaureate, creating 16,846 new places; six new schools opened during 2025-26 and enrolment rose 6%. More IB schools eventually means more IB teachers, which is the only thing that genuinely loosens the specialist supply this page keeps returning to.

To be plain about credentials: IB Gram is not KHDA approved, ADEK approved or licensed by any UAE education authority, and does not claim to be. A KHDA Educational Services Permit is a specific licence for training institutes with premises in Dubai. Any service advertising KHDA-approved tutors is describing something else or saying something untrue, and that is worth testing before paying anyone anything.

08

Academic honesty and the maths exploration

The exploration carries 20% of the maths grade and it is where tutoring most often crosses a line. At least one operator ranking for Dubai IB queries sells completed Internal Assessments outright. That is not a pricing option, it is academic misconduct under IB rules, and the consequence falls on the student, who can lose the Diploma, not on the website that took the payment.

What a tutor may do is substantial. They may explain the assessment criteria. They may question a topic until it carries enough mathematics to reach the top bands rather than reading as a school project. They may check the mathematical processes are at the right level for the course. They may read a draft the student has written and say where the reasoning is thin, where the notation is wrong, and where a conclusion outruns the working. They may teach the mathematics the exploration depends on.

What a tutor may not do is choose the topic, supply the mathematics, generate the data, or write or edit the report into its final form. Nor may they hand over a worked example so close to the student's exploration that copying it is the obvious next step. We state these boundaries to the student in the first session, because a sixteen-year-old under deadline pressure deserves to know where the line is before they are standing on it. The same applies to the Extended Essay and the Theory of Knowledge essay, and we do not reproduce or supply IB past papers, mark schemes or grade-boundary tables; we link to the official source instead.

09

Starting from Meydan, and what we do when nobody is free

The first step costs nothing and takes two minutes. Tell us the course, the level, the mock grade and the topics your child names as weak, and tell us what time the school day ends, because from Meydan that varies by school and it sets the window a session can occupy. Then say what you can spend monthly. A tutoring service that does not ask that is going to recommend more sessions than you need.

We propose a tutor and run a free trial lesson. The trial is a diagnosis. The tutor should finish it able to name what is costing marks, in the specific terms described earlier on this page, and you should finish it knowing whether your child will talk to this person weekly for two terms. If not, say so and we propose someone else. A match the student tolerates rather than respects does not survive to February.

The honest part, which this market generally omits: Diploma maths specialists are a limited resource, particularly for Analysis and Approaches at Higher Level and for Paper 3 work. When the right tutor is not free at the time you want, we say so. The resolution is usually a different slot, occasionally a short wait, and sometimes a tutor based outside the UAE teaching the same course to Gulf Standard Time. What we will not do is put a general maths tutor in front of a Higher Level Paper 3 student because the diary was tidier that way, and then charge the specialist rate for it.

Where we tutor

Meydan and the central corridor it belongs to

Meydan is part of a band of newer and established communities running from Downtown out towards Nad Al Sheba. They share schools, traffic patterns and, relevant to this page, a similar tutoring price level. Each note below says something about cost or timing rather than about scenery.

Meydan

Villas and apartments around the racecourse and Meydan One, with school runs splitting between Nad Al Sheba and Downtown. In-home rates here carry a mid-range travel premium: closer than the eastern suburbs, further than Business Bay.

Nad Al Sheba

Immediately south of Meydan and home to established IB provision. Families here often pay the lower end of the in-home band simply because more tutors already drive this way for other clients.

Sobha Hartland

Dense newer towers and villas with two well-known schools inside the community. Monthly tutoring budgets here skew higher, which pulls local in-home quotes up rather than down.

Downtown Dubai

Apartment living with short drives to several schools. The in-home travel premium is smallest in the corridor, and it is also where group-class tuition centres are easiest to reach, which caps what freelancers can charge.

Business Bay

Mostly towers, many mid-year arrivals, and a steady demand for short intensive blocks rather than year-long arrangements. That demand pattern is why packages rather than hourly rates are advertised here.

Al Jaddaf

Close to an IB continuum school and to the creek crossings, so a session can realistically start soon after the school day ends. Short commutes keep local quotes near the middle of the market band.

Al Quoz

Mixed industrial and residential, with several schools and tuition centres. Group classes are cheaper per head here than anywhere nearby, which is useful context when comparing a monthly one-to-one figure.

Mohammed Bin Rashid City

Large villa plots between Meydan and Al Quoz, with longer internal drives than the map suggests. Parents here frequently report in-home quotes at the top of the market band for that reason alone.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in Meydan

Meydan, Nad Al Sheba and Sobha Hartland

The schools closest to Meydan cover an IB continuum, British curriculum to A Level and IB Diploma provision within a few minutes of each other. That proximity means Meydan maths students in the same street may be sitting different courses, so a tutor cannot assume the syllabus from the address.

Downtown, Business Bay, Al Jaddaf and Al Quoz

The schools central-corridor families drive to when they want a particular programme rather than the nearest option. Several run IGCSE at sixteen before splitting into the Diploma or A Levels, which is where the Analysis and Approaches versus Applications and Interpretation conversation begins.

  • Swiss International Scientific School Dubai
  • Horizon International School
  • GEMS Wellington Academy Al Khail
  • Dubai International Academy Al Barsha
  • Safa British School

Schools are named as market context for the central corridor; IB Gram has no affiliation, partnership or endorsement arrangement with any of them, and current curricula and inspection outcomes should be checked on KHDA's own school listings.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Say the course and the monthly budget

Analysis and Approaches and Applications and Interpretation are different jobs, and Higher Level Paper 3 is a third one. Tell us which, plus the mock grade and what you can spend a month. The budget shapes the recommendation honestly rather than after the fact.

  2. 02

We match on the course, not the commute

Lessons are online, so the shortlist is every maths specialist available rather than those who will drive to Meydan at 4pm. We tell you who the tutor is and why they fit this gap before anything is booked, and the travel premium in the market bands above never enters the price.

  3. 03

    Free trial lesson as diagnosis

The first session costs nothing and its job is to find the problem. Ask the tutor afterwards what is costing your child marks. A specific answer about method marks or notation is what you are looking for; a general answer about practising more is not worth a specialist rate.

  4. 04

Agree a number of sessions and an end date

Blocks have a purpose and a finish. We agree how many sessions, for what, and when the review happens, so the monthly figure is a decision rather than a subscription nobody revisits. If the work is done early, we say so.

  5. 05

Practice between sessions, marked before the next

Each session ends with named practice, usually past-paper questions on the topic just covered, and the next session starts with it marked. This is the part that converts a monthly payment into a grade change, and it is also the part students skip when nobody checks.

  6. 06

    Review against the calendar

Every few weeks the plan is checked against the Diploma year: exploration deadline, mock, final revision block. Intensity rises for a defined block before the examination session and falls afterwards, rather than sitting flat for two years at the same cost.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

Monthly figures, not hourly ones

We publish the Dubai market in the unit families budget in, with each band attributed and dated. Most pages in this market publish nothing, and the two that publish anything quote US dollars. A monthly number is the one you can actually decide against.

The course question answered first

A student in the wrong maths course needs far more hours for the same grade, so the first lesson checks the fit against where they are heading. That single check saves more money than any discount, and it is work most tutoring arrangements never do.

Specialist hours where they count

Paper 3, no-calculator algebra and exploration feedback need a specialist. Homework supervision does not. We will tell you which you are buying, including when the cheaper option is genuinely sufficient for the term you are in.

Blocks that end

Every block has a stated purpose and a review date. We would rather tell you the work is done than let a monthly payment run because stopping feels risky. That is the largest saving available in this market and nobody advertises it.

The exploration line stated plainly

A fifth of the maths grade is the student's own work. We tell the student in the first session what we will and will not do with it: teaching, questioning and written feedback on their own draft, never the topic, the mathematics or the text.

No borrowed credentials

We explain what KHDA does and link to its own material. We do not describe IB Gram or any tutor as KHDA approved, ADEK approved or IB accredited, because none of that is true of us, and in this market that phrase is the commonest untruth on a pricing page.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Meydan: your questions answered

What does an IB maths tutor in Meydan cost per month rather than per hour?+

Converting the Dubai market into monthly figures: a weekly hour with a budget tutor runs roughly AED 240 to 600 a month on Bestimate's own estimates, a mid-tier qualified tutor about AED 600 to 1,200, and a specialist working with a student in an examination year around AED 1,000 to 2,000 and above. Advertised packages exist at AED 799 a month for eight online sessions and AED 1,599 to 1,799 for four two-hour in-home visits. Those are other providers' published figures read in October 2026, not IB Gram's prices, which follow a free trial lesson.

Where do Dubai families most often waste money on maths tutoring?+

Three places. First, buying duration before diagnosis: open-ended twice-weekly sessions booked after one bad test, with nobody ever naming what is losing marks. Second, paying specialist rates for homework supervision in DP1 and then economising in DP2, which is the reverse of what the calendar wants. Third, letting a block renew because stopping feels risky, long after its purpose was met. None of these is solved by finding a cheaper hourly rate. All three are solved by a diagnostic first lesson and an agreed end date.

Which IB maths course costs a Meydan family less in tutoring over two years?+

It is different rather than simply harder, and treating it as the harder one leads students into the wrong course. Analysis and Approaches is algebraic and proof-oriented, with Paper 1 sat without a calculator, which exposes manipulation skill immediately. Applications and Interpretation is modelling and statistics led, with calculator use expected throughout and examinable as a skill. Students who move to Applications and Interpretation expecting less work are often surprised. Choose on what the student is good at and on what their intended degree requires, then verify that requirement on the university's own admissions page.

How are the IB maths papers weighted at Standard and Higher Level?+

At Standard Level, Paper 1 and Paper 2 carry 40% each and the internal exploration carries 20%. At Higher Level, Papers 1 and 2 carry 30% each, the shorter Paper 3 carries 20% and the exploration carries 20%. The practical consequence is that Higher Level students have an entire additional paper with its own style of extended problem, which needs its own sessions rather than being treated as more of Paper 2. Confirm the current structure with your child's teacher, since course documents are revised periodically.

Does an in-home maths tutor coming to Meydan cost much more?+

Yes, and the premium is visible in the market bands. In-home one-to-one in Dubai runs roughly AED 180 to 500 an hour because the figure includes travel, against about AED 150 to 300 for a qualified subject tutor online. Advertised monthly packages show the same gap: around AED 799 a month online against AED 1,599 to 1,799 in-home. For a Meydan address in the middle of the corridor the travel component is moderate rather than extreme, but it buys logistics, not teaching. IB Gram does not offer home visits in the UAE at all.

How many sessions a month does a Diploma maths student actually need?+

Four, in most cases, meaning one a week. One well-used session with marked practice in between repairs topic gaps steadily and leaves time for five other subjects. Eight to twelve sessions a month make sense for a defined block: six to ten weeks before the examination session, or a short period around the exploration. Open-ended twice-weekly tutoring across both Diploma years tends to produce a student who waits to be taught, and it is also the most expensive version of the least effective plan.

Can a tutor help with the IB maths exploration without crossing a line?+

Yes, and the boundary is specific. A tutor may explain the assessment criteria, question a topic until it carries enough mathematics for the higher bands, check the mathematical processes suit the course, teach the mathematics involved, and give written feedback on a draft the student has written. A tutor may not choose the topic, supply the mathematics, generate data, or write or edit the report into its final form. Submitting work that is not the student's own is academic misconduct under IB rules, and the consequence falls on the student.

My child cannot do Paper 1 without a calculator. Is that a content problem?+

Usually not. It is almost always algebraic fluency, which is a speed and accuracy problem rather than a knowledge one. A student who understands differentiation perfectly but takes ninety seconds to simplify a fraction will run out of time on a paper where everyone else is thinking about the mathematics. The remedy is unglamorous and reliable: short, frequent no-calculator drill, every session, for a term. It is the cheapest grade movement available in Analysis and Approaches and the one students resist most strongly.

Which schools near Meydan teach IB Diploma mathematics?+

Several, with different course combinations, which is why the syllabus has to be asked about rather than assumed. The Meydan and Nad Al Sheba area includes established IB provision as well as British-curriculum schools running A Levels, and Sobha Hartland nearby has two well-known schools. Some schools timetable both Analysis and Approaches and Applications and Interpretation at both levels; others offer a narrower set, which constrains a student's choice before any tutor is involved. KHDA publishes current curricula for every Dubai private school on its own site, and that is where to confirm.

Are school fees in Dubai going up for 2026-27, and does that affect tutoring budgets?+

KHDA confirmed in May 2026 that there would be no increase in private school fees in Dubai for the 2026-27 academic year, under Dubai's second economic incentives package valued at AED 1.5 billion within a AED 2.5 billion total. For families that means the largest education line in the budget is flat this year, which makes discretionary spending such as tutoring more visible. It is a good year to judge a monthly tutoring figure on what it actually achieves rather than absorbing it into a general rise.

Do private maths tutors in Dubai need a licence, and does it cost them anything?+

They need a permit and it is free. MoHRE issues a private tuition work permit under Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, granted free of charge for two years, with eligible applicants including registered school teachers, government and private-sector employees, unemployed residents, university students and school students aged fifteen to eighteen. Applications go through MoHRE's own private tutor licensing service. Those tutoring without a permit are subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws, although no fine schedule is published, so any specific figure you see quoted is unverified.

Is a group maths class cheaper than one-to-one, and is it worth it?+

Cheaper per head, certainly, and sometimes worth it. A group class works when several students share the same gap and the pace suits all of them, which is most plausible for a single topic rather than for general Diploma maths. It works poorly when the problem is personal: a student losing method marks through their own particular habit will not have that noticed in a group of six. For a Meydan family the honest test is whether you can name the gap. If you can, a group class on that topic may be efficient.

We are starting tutoring in DP2 after a poor mock. Is it too late to be worth the money?+

No, but the plan has to change. With eight to twelve weeks of usable time, the first session should be spent marking the mock with the student question by question, and the plan that follows should drop topics deliberately rather than attempting everything. That is uncomfortable and it is the correct use of the money. Expect a higher monthly figure for a short, defined block rather than a modest one spread thin. Nobody can promise a grade, and anyone who does is selling something other than teaching.

Can sessions move during Ramadan or when the family travels?+

Yes, and this is a practical advantage of online delivery rather than a courtesy. During Ramadan sessions commonly shift to a post-Iftar slot, which is straightforward when there is no journey to renegotiate at either end. When a family travels, the lesson follows the student rather than the address, so two weeks away does not cost two weeks of maths. Agree in advance which time zone the session is pinned to, so a student abroad is not sitting a maths lesson at six in the morning.

What does the extra money actually buy in a lesson at the specialist rate?+

Specific behaviour you can observe. A specialist arrives having looked at the student's marked work, names the pattern, and chooses what the session covers even when that is not what the homework is about. They talk about method marks. They stop a student mid-question to ask what they would write if they could not finish. They set practice aimed at the gap rather than at the chapter. Test for it after the free trial lesson by asking what is costing your child marks, and judge how specific the answer is.

What happens if the maths specialist we want is fully booked?+

We tell you rather than substituting quietly. Diploma maths capacity is genuinely limited, particularly for Analysis and Approaches at Higher Level and for Paper 3 work. The options are a different slot, a short wait, or a tutor based outside the UAE teaching the same course to Gulf Standard Time. We will not put a general maths tutor in front of a Higher Level Paper 3 student and charge the specialist rate for it. If none of the alternatives suits, you have lost nothing, because the trial lesson is free and comes first.

Get the monthly figure before you get the tutor

Most families in Meydan decide on a maths tutor before they have worked out what they are spending across a term or what the spend is meant to achieve. Reverse the order. Tell us the course, the level, the mock grade and the monthly figure you are comfortable with, and we will say what that buys, how many sessions it implies and when the block should end. Then we run a trial lesson at no cost, and you judge the diagnosis before anything is booked. If the tutor cannot name what is costing marks, do not buy the block.
