IB MYP Tutor in Meydan

An IB MYP tutor in Meydan is the cheapest useful tutoring a Dubai family will ever buy and the one bought least, because there is no public examination to frighten anyone into it. This page prices it properly: what the Dubai market charges, what a criterion-based report is actually telling you, and which MYP years repay money that the Diploma years cannot. Lessons run one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time.

  • Market rates attributed to the provider that published them
  • Criterion-based marking explained before anything is sold
  • One-to-one over live video; no home visits anywhere in the UAE
  • Free first lesson with the named tutor, no card required

IB & IGCSE in Meydan

Why the cheap years are the ones nobody buys

Spending on tutoring in Dubai follows exam pressure rather than need. Families buy heavily in DP2 and in Year 11, lightly in the Diploma's first year, and almost nothing across MYP 1 to 5, because nothing external is being examined. The arithmetic is the wrong way round. An MYP student has time, no public assessment deadline and a gap that is still small, so an hour spent now changes a trajectory. A DP2 student has eight weeks, six subjects and a gap that has compounded, so an hour buys damage limitation at a higher rate.

Dubai market rates make the point sharply. Published figures put qualified online subject tutoring at roughly AED 150 to 300 an hour and exam-year specialists at AED 200 to 450 and upwards, with TutorChase listing AED 270 and Bestimate putting specialist exam-year monthly costs at AED 1,000 to 2,000 or more for a weekly session. Bestimate's budget band for the same weekly hour sits at AED 240 to 600 a month. MYP work generally belongs in the lower bands because it is teaching rather than triage, and the same intervention later belongs in the upper ones.

The second thing that makes MYP money easy to waste is that parents cannot read the report. A criterion-based report does not say your child scored 68 per cent. It gives four criterion marks out of eight each, converts the total out of 32 through published boundaries into a grade from 1 to 7, and says nothing explicit about why. A family that cannot see which criterion is low buys general tutoring, which is the most expensive form of help per unit of improvement. A family that can see it buys three sessions on criterion C and stops.

Meydan's own situation is worth stating because it affects who is available. There is no school inside Meydan. MYP students here attend the IB continuum schools in Nad Al Sheba, principally North London Collegiate School Dubai and GEMS Modern Academy, or cross Ras Al Khor Road to Hartland International School and Swiss International Scientific School Dubai. The pool of tutors who understand criterion marking rather than content coverage is small anywhere, and narrowing it to people who can drive to Meydan by six o'clock shrinks it without improving it.

IB Gram does not sell home visits in Dubai or anywhere in the UAE; that service runs only in India. MYP support for Meydan families is one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time. What follows is a cost argument: what the Dubai market charges, what the criterion marks mean, where MYP money is thrown away, what the Personal Project does and does not permit, and which MYP year gives the best return on a paid hour.

At a glance

  • Eight subject groups, four criteria each, every criterion marked out of 8
  • Criterion totals out of 32 convert to a 1-7 grade through published boundaries
  • Dubai monthly estimates for a weekly hour run AED 240 to 600 at the budget end
  • Exam-year specialist monthly costs reach AED 1,000 to 2,000 or more
  • The Personal Project is assessed in MYP 5 and must be the student's own work
  • Mandatory Arabic, Islamic Education and Social Studies sit alongside all of it
IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

The Middle Years Programme spans five years that behave very differently, and the price of fixing something rises steadily across them. These are the stages a Meydan family is choosing between.

MYP 1-3Ages 11-14 · MYP 1-3

The early Middle Years

Eight subject groups, four criteria each, and no external assessment at all. Reports arrive as criterion marks out of eight with a converted grade, and the criteria that cause trouble are usually the process ones rather than the knowledge one. This is where number fluency, algebraic habits, method writing and extended-answer structure are either established or quietly skipped.

In Meydan this is the cheapest tutoring money available and the least spent. A short block here on the specific low criterion costs a fraction of the same intervention in DP1, and the Dubai market charges its lower band for it rather than its exam-year band.

MYP 4-5Ages 14-16 · MYP 4-5

The years that decide the Diploma start

Subject content deepens, the Personal Project arrives in MYP 5, and option choices begin to close routes. Some schools offer MYP eAssessment for the IB MYP certificate; others do not, and that changes whether anything external is sat at all. The skills that matter for what comes next are rearranging formulae, handling data, writing an argued paragraph and meeting a deadline without supervision.

For Meydan families this is the decision point, because the Nad Al Sheba and Hartland schools split between the IB Diploma and A Level at sixth form. Ask which route your school's own sixth form expects before treating MYP 5 as simply the year before DP1.

DPAges 16-19 · DP1 and DP2

Where the Diploma picks it up

The Diploma assesses with examination papers, mark schemes and internal assessments against published criteria, which is a different contract from MYP criterion marking. Students arriving with a 6 in MYP sciences or mathematics frequently meet a first DP1 test that marks them down for answers they consider correct, because the Diploma pays for visible reasoning rather than for explanation.

The September gap is the single most predictable event in a Meydan family's school career and the one least planned for. Four hours in the summer before DP1 costs a fraction of a rescue term in November at Dubai specialist rates.

IGCSEAges 14-16 · Years 10-11

The other route out of MYP

Some students leave the MYP after MYP 3 for a British-track IGCSE at a different school, which means moving from criterion marking to tiered examinations with syllabus codes, a Core or Extended entry and a June or November series. The content overlap is substantial; the assessment culture is not, and the adjustment is in technique rather than knowledge.

This route is common in the Meydan corridor because the British-curriculum schools nearby run it. If it is under consideration, a short block on examination technique in the final MYP year transfers better than extra content coverage does.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

An MYP student carries all eight groups at once, so help has to be aimed. These are the groups and the criterion that most often costs the mark in each, which is where a paid hour should go first.

Mathematics

MYP 1-5, standard and extended

Knowing and understanding usually looks fine while applying mathematics in real-life contexts does not, because that criterion asks for a model, a justification and a reflection on whether the answer is sensible. Most low marks here are structural rather than numerical.

Sciences

MYP 1-5

Inquiring and designing and processing and evaluating are where marks go. Students explain well and plan loosely, so the method is not repeatable and the evaluation names a limitation without explaining its effect. Both are quick to teach and rarely taught.

Language and Literature

MYP 1-5

Analysing and producing text split cleanly: students who read well often write without structure, and the criterion rewards a controlled argument. Three sessions on paragraph architecture frequently move a mark that a term of extra reading did not.

Language Acquisition

Phases 1-6

Marked in phases rather than years, which confuses parents more than any other part of the programme. A student can move year group and stay in the same phase. Productive help targets the specific skill being assessed, usually speaking or writing to a prompt.

Individuals and Societies

MYP 1-5

Investigating and communicating carry the marks, and the common failure is description where analysis was wanted. Source handling and the habit of stating significance rather than content are the two teachable moves.

Design

MYP 1-5

A full design cycle assessed across four criteria, with inquiring and analysing and evaluating usually the weak ones. Students build before they specify and then cannot evaluate against criteria they never wrote. The fix is in the planning stage.

Arts

MYP 1-5

Developing skills and responding are assessed alongside the work itself, so the process journal matters as much as the outcome. Students lose marks for undocumented process rather than for weak work, which is worth knowing before buying lessons in the art form.

Physical and Health Education

MYP 1-5

Planning for performance and reflecting on performance are written criteria inside a practical subject, and a capable athlete can score poorly on both. Help here is writing support rather than coaching, which surprises most families.

Personal Project

MYP 5

Assessed against planning, applying skills and reflecting. It must be the student's own work throughout, and the legitimate support is process questioning and deadline structure rather than any contribution to the product.

Interdisciplinary units

MYP 1-5

Assessed against their own criteria across combined subjects, and frequently the lowest marks on a report because nobody revises for them. Worth checking on the report before assuming a subject is the problem.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three formats, priced differently, suited to different MYP problems. The cheapest effective one is usually a short block rather than a standing commitment, which is the opposite of how this market normally sells.

A short criterion block, three to four sessions

The default recommendation for an MYP family and the best value in this programme. Take the lowest criterion on the report, teach what that criterion actually rewards, have the student produce two pieces against it, and stop. Three sessions aimed at one criterion routinely move a mark that a term of general subject tutoring did not.

  • Starts from the criterion marks on the school report
  • One criterion, one subject group, a fixed number of sessions
  • Written note identifying what the criterion was actually asking
  • Ends deliberately rather than rolling into a subscription

Weekly one-to-one, 60 minutes

Appropriate where a genuine content gap exists rather than a technique gap, typically in mathematics or a language. An hour holds a diagnostic, a teaching segment and set practice. It is worth auditing every term against the session notes, because a weekly hour with no stated target is the easiest money to waste in this programme.

  • Only where content, not criterion technique, is the problem
  • Aligned to the unit the school is actually teaching
  • Audited each term against the written notes
  • Suitable for siblings in separate slots with one tutor

A summer bridging block before DP1 or Year 10

Four to six sessions in the summer after MYP 5, aimed at the move from criterion marking to examination marking. Rearranging formulae, showing a working line, writing to a command word and handling data under timing. The cheapest intervention available at the point where it is most predictably needed.

  • Booked in July, when the work is easier and the rate is the same
  • Targets visible reasoning rather than further content
  • Covers mark-scheme conventions the MYP does not use
  • Short, fixed and designed to end before term starts

Personal Project process coaching

Two or three sessions in MYP 5 on scope, planning and the process journal, with the product entirely the student's own. The tutor asks whether the goal is achievable, whether the criteria the student set are testable and whether the journal records enough to support the reflection. Nothing is written, made or supplied.

  • Scope and achievability questioned early
  • Journal habits set before the work begins
  • Reflection read against what the criteria ask for
  • No contribution to the product itself, ever

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Meydan

01

What the Dubai market charges, and which band MYP work belongs in

Published rates in this market cover an enormous range for the same job title. At the budget end, EdFlik advertises from AED 45 to 65 an hour and Tutopiya's comparison panel starts around AED 33 to 52. The qualified online subject band runs roughly AED 150 to 300, where Unitors states an IGCSE rate from AED 150 and an IB rate from AED 200. Specialist exam-year work is quoted at AED 200 to 450 and upwards, with TutorChase at AED 270, and BartyED asks AED 650 an hour for a named examiner.

Most MYP work belongs in the lower half of that spread, and a family paying specialist exam-year rates for MYP 2 mathematics is paying for triage they do not need. The reason is structural rather than a judgement about MYP teaching. Specialist bands exist for diagnosis under time pressure and for marking against a published external scheme. An MYP student has no external paper, no grade boundary deadline and a gap that is still simple, so the work is teaching rather than rescue.

Monthly figures are the more useful way to think about it, because that is how the money leaves the account. Bestimate's monthly estimates for a weekly one-hour session run AED 240 to 600 at the budget end, AED 600 to 1,200 in the middle band and AED 1,000 to 2,000 or more for exam-year specialist support. Packages circulate at around AED 799 a month for eight online sessions, and at AED 1,599 to 1,799 a month for four two-hour in-home sessions. A three-session MYP criterion block sits well below any of those monthly commitments.

IB Gram does not publish an hourly price list on these pages, and nothing above is our quote. Every figure is attributed to the provider or rate table that published it and was read in October 2026. What we do instead is give the first lesson free so the comparison is made on teaching rather than on copy, and recommend a short block rather than a standing arrangement where a short block is what the report actually indicates.

Reading a criterion report before you buy anything

An MYP report is the cheapest diagnostic instrument a Meydan parent will ever be handed, and most of them go unread because they do not look like marks. Each subject carries four criteria, each marked out of eight, assessed against published descriptors that say what an eight looks like and what a two looks like. The four add to a total out of 32, and published boundaries convert that total into a grade from one to seven. The grade is a summary. The four numbers behind it are the information.

The pattern to look for is uneven rather than low. A student with marks of seven, three, four and six does not have a subject problem; they have a specific criterion problem, and in sciences or mathematics that is almost always one of the process criteria rather than the knowledge criterion. Knowing and understanding tends to be the strongest mark on a Meydan report because it is the closest thing to traditional content assessment, and the criteria asking the student to plan, justify or evaluate are the ones that sit low.

That observation converts directly into money. A family that sees the uneven pattern buys three sessions on one criterion. A family that sees only the grade buys weekly general tutoring in the subject, which in the Dubai middle band means a commitment of several hundred dirhams a month to work that may never touch the actual weakness. The second family will often report that tutoring did not help, and they will be right, because the target was wrong rather than the teaching.

Two further things worth checking on the report. Interdisciplinary unit marks are assessed against their own criteria and are frequently the lowest numbers on the page, because nobody prepares for them. And language acquisition is marked in phases rather than year groups, so a child can change year and stay in the same phase without anything having gone wrong. Both are regularly mistaken for subject failure.

03

The four ways MYP money gets wasted in this corridor

  • Buy the criterion named on the report, not the subject label
  • Specialist exam-year rates buy nothing in a year with no external paper
  • A July bridging block costs the same per hour and does far more
  • The in-home premium buys presence, not criterion knowledge
  • Three well-aimed sessions beat a term with no stated target

The first is buying the subject instead of the criterion. A term of weekly mathematics tutoring for a student whose knowledge criterion is already a seven delivers more of what they can do and none of what they cannot. The report named the problem and the purchase ignored it. This is the most common pattern we see in MYP enquiries from Meydan and the most expensive, because it runs for months before anyone concludes that tutoring does not work for their child.

The second is paying exam-year rates for a non-exam year. There is no external paper in most MYP years, so there is no mark scheme to be marked against and no grade boundary to be beaten. The premium bands in the Dubai market exist for exactly those two things. Paying AED 400 an hour for MYP 3 science is buying capability the situation does not call for, and the same money spread across a short block and a summer bridging block would do considerably more.

The third is waiting for the Diploma. The September after MYP 5 is the most predictable difficulty in a Dubai school career: criterion marking gives way to examination marking, and a student used to explaining has to start showing a working line. Families consistently meet this in November of DP1 and buy help at exam-year prices. Four to six sessions the previous July, at the same hourly rate for materially easier work, is the single clearest cost saving available in this programme.

The fourth is paying for travel in a community where it buys nothing extra. In-home one-to-one in Dubai is quoted at AED 180 to 500 an hour against roughly AED 150 to 300 for qualified online work, and the gap is the drive. For an MYP student the thing being paid for is usually an adult in the room, which is a real need for some children and no benefit at all for others. Decide which your child is before paying the premium every week for a year.

04

The MYP 5 to DP1 gap, and what it costs to close late

The gap is not about content. Most students arriving in DP1 from a Nad Al Sheba continuum school have met the material. What changes is what earns credit. MYP criteria reward explanation, process and reflection, assessed against descriptors by a teacher who knows the student. Diploma assessment rewards a visible reasoning line marked against a published scheme by somebody who does not. A student who writes a confident paragraph and omits the working line was rewarded for that in MYP 4 and is penalised for it in DP1.

The specific habits that have to change are small and teachable. Show the substitution, not just the answer. Answer the command word that was used rather than the question you expected. Write units at every stage. Round at the end rather than the middle. State the principle before applying it. Treat an uncertainty as part of the result rather than as an afterthought. None of that takes a term; it takes a handful of sessions and some marked practice, and it has to happen before the first DP1 assessment rather than after it.

The cost difference between doing it early and doing it late is the whole argument. In the July after MYP 5 this is a short bridging block in the Dubai qualified band. In November of DP1, after a bad first report, it is a rescue term and families tend to buy it from the specialist band, in two subjects at once, because they cannot tell which subject the problem lives in. The hourly rate rises and the hours multiply, and the underlying fix was the same handful of habits in both cases.

There is a second route out of MYP in this corridor, towards a British-track IGCSE at another school, and the same logic applies with different details. That move swaps criterion marking for tiered entries, syllabus codes and a June or November series. The adjustment is again technique rather than knowledge: command words, mark allocation and the discipline of timed practice. Buy it in the summer, not in the spring of Year 11.

05

The Personal Project, and exactly where a tutor stops

  • Assessed on planning, applying skills and reflecting
  • The process journal carries real weight and is often thin
  • A tutor questions scope and achievability, nothing more
  • No making, writing, editing or supplying any part of it
  • Two or three sessions early, not a weekly arrangement

The Personal Project runs in MYP 5 and is assessed on planning, on applying skills and on reflecting, with a process journal supporting the whole thing. It must be the student's own work throughout. This matters more than families assume, because the project looks like the sort of thing an adult could help with, and some of the help available in this market crosses the line without announcing it. The product is the student's. The journal is the student's. The reflection is the student's.

What legitimate support looks like is almost entirely questioning. Is the goal achievable in the time available with the resources the student actually has. Are the criteria the student has set for their own product testable, or are they aspirations. Does the journal record enough decisions, dead ends and changes of direction to support a reflection at the end, or is it a list of activities. Has the student confused being busy with applying a skill. Those questions improve a project substantially and contribute nothing to it.

What a tutor must not do is choose the goal, design the product, make any part of it, write or edit the report or the journal, or supply material the student then presents as their own work. IB Gram provides none of those things. A tutor who offers to help finish a Personal Project is creating a risk that sits with your child, not with them, and the school authenticates the work.

The practical shape of useful Personal Project support is two or three sessions early, at the scoping and planning stage, and possibly one near the end on reading the reflection against the criteria. It is a small, cheap, time-limited purchase. Anything presented as ongoing weekly Personal Project support should prompt the question of what exactly is being done each week.

Mandatory UAE subjects beside eight MYP groups

  • Required in all Dubai private schools whatever curriculum is licensed
  • Separate classes for Arabs and non-Arabs; combined classes prohibited
  • Counted in 40-minute units, with 25 minutes the advised floor
  • No additional content without prior Ministry of Education permission
  • Map the whole week before choosing an MYP tutoring slot

An MYP student in Dubai is carrying eight subject groups and the mandatory UAE subjects at the same time, which is a heavier week than the programme description suggests. KHDA requires Arabic, Islamic Education and Social or Moral Studies in all Dubai private schools whatever international curriculum the school is licensed for, with the requirements to be implemented by the start of the 2025-26 academic year, or April 2026 for schools whose year begins in April. Those periods occupy timetable space that has to come from somewhere.

The rules on organisation are specific and worth knowing before buying any help in these subjects. For Arabic as a first language, Islamic Education and Social Studies, schools must run separate classes for Arabs and non-Arabs, and KHDA states that combined classes are strictly prohibited because the curriculum expectations and language of instruction differ. Standard Arabic must be the main language of instruction for Islamic Education for Arabs and for Arabic as a first language, while non-Arabs take Islamic Education and Moral, Social and Cultural studies in the school's licensed-curriculum language.

Instructional time is counted in 40-minute lesson units, schools may vary actual lesson length provided the weekly total is met, and KHDA advises that no mandatory subject lesson runs shorter than 25 minutes. Teachers of Arabic and Islamic Education must hold the appropriate KHDA approval. There is also a content restriction that rules out the obvious tutoring approach: for these subjects, using different or additional content without prior permission from the Ministry of Education is strictly prohibited.

For a Meydan family planning MYP tutoring, the consequence is about scheduling rather than content. Count the mandatory periods and the sport or activity commitments before choosing a slot. A slot chosen from the whole week survives the term; a slot chosen from the subject timetable alone gets moved repeatedly and then abandoned, which is the quietest way of all to waste money.

07

The regulator, the permit, and what IB Gram does not claim

Dubai's private schools are overseen by the Knowledge and Human Development Authority, described on u.ae as responsible for enhancing and overseeing the quality of private education in the emirate. Every Meydan MYP student's school falls under it and is inspected on a published band scale. The national map is broader than most tutoring pages mention: Abu Dhabi and Al Ain sit with ADEK, which supervises the licensing and accreditation of private schools there; Sharjah with SPEA; Ras Al Khaimah with its Department of Knowledge; and Ajman, Umm Al Quwain and Fujairah with the federal Ministry of Education.

There is a useful piece of cost context in KHDA's own announcements. KHDA confirmed on 22 May 2026 that there would be no increase in school fees for private schools in the emirate for the 2026-27 academic year, under Dubai's second economic incentives package valued at AED 1.5 billion. Separately, Dubai's 2026-27 intake adds seven new private schools, four UK curriculum and three International Baccalaureate, creating 16,846 new places, after six opened during 2025-26 and enrolment rose 6 per cent. For a family budgeting MYP support, a flat fee year is the right year to spend on a short block.

Tutoring is regulated separately. The private tuition work permit comes from the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation under Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, is granted free of charge for two years, and covers registered school teachers, government and private-sector employees, unemployed residents, university students and school students aged 15 to 18. MoHRE's service page lists no fee and a two-working-day completion time. Because it is free, there is no good reason for a tutor working with UAE families to be without one, so ask to see it. No fine schedule is published, so nobody should quote an amount at you.

To be explicit: IB Gram holds no approval, accreditation, licence or partnership from KHDA, ADEK, SPEA, the Ministry of Education or the IB, and claims none anywhere on this site. We are an independent platform that matches families with subject specialists and teaches online. Describing what a regulator does helps a parent. Suggesting one stands behind us would be the most misleading thing these pages could do.

Nearby areas we cover around Meydan

Meydan has no school of its own, so what shapes an MYP week is the places around it. Each entry below changes the scheduling or the cost rather than the scenery.

Nad Al Sheba

The school belt Meydan uses, and where the IB continuum schools sit. Which one your child attends sets the criterion calendar and the Personal Project deadline that any tutoring plan has to work around.

Sobha Hartland

Across Ras Al Khor Road, with Hartland International School and North London Collegiate School Dubai drawing from both communities. Families moving between the two usually keep the school and the tutoring slot.

Mohammed Bin Rashid City and District One

The same evening in practice. Villa households here are the likeliest to need two children covered in one week, and MYP work is where sharing a tutor across siblings actually makes sense.

Business Bay

Where many Meydan parents work. A five o'clock return is why MYP sessions here often start before a parent is home, which an online slot allows and an in-home visit does not.

Al Quoz and Al Khail Road

The direction a local tutor drives from, and the reason an in-home quote in Meydan carries a travel premium and a later start time than the family asked for.

Al Jaddaf

Swiss International Scientific School Dubai sits here and draws bilingual MYP families from the corridor. The bilingual route adds a language phase demand that a subject tutor does not cover.

Nad Al Hamar and Ras Al Khor

The eastern edge of the drive, where late-afternoon congestion through the interchange shapes every in-home quote and every realistic session time.

Downtown Dubai and DIFC

Close off-peak and far inside it. Families scheduling an MYP session around a Downtown activity should price the return leg, which is usually what breaks the slot.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Send the criterion marks, not the grade

Photograph the report page showing four criterion marks out of eight for the subject in question. That page tells us whether this is a content problem or a technique problem, which decides whether you need a short block or a weekly arrangement. The overall grade on its own tells us almost nothing.

  2. 02

Hear which band the work belongs in

We will say whether the report indicates three sessions on one criterion, a term of content teaching, or a conversation with the school before anybody is paid. Recommending the cheapest thing that works is the whole point of looking at the criterion marks first.

  3. 03

    Take the free trial lesson

Sixty minutes with the named tutor who would teach your child, at no cost and with no card. Watch whether the tutor talks about the criterion descriptor rather than about covering more content. A written note follows, naming what the criterion was actually asking for.

  4. 04

    Fix one criterion and stop

Teach what the low criterion rewards, have the student produce two pieces against it, and finish. Most MYP interventions should end rather than continue. If the mark moves, the work is done and you have spent a fraction of a monthly commitment.

  5. 05

Book the bridging block for July

If MYP 5 leads to DP1 or to a British-track Year 10, put four to six sessions in the summer on visible reasoning, command words and timed practice. Same hourly rate, considerably easier work, and it removes the most predictable difficulty in a Dubai school career.

  6. 06

    Audit anything weekly, every term

Read the session notes. Three consecutive notes describing the same gap means the target is wrong rather than the student. A weekly MYP arrangement with no written target is the easiest money to lose in this programme, and the audit costs nothing but attention.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

We read the criterion marks first

The four numbers out of eight behind the grade decide whether you need three sessions or a term. Looking at them before quoting anything is the difference between a short block that works and a monthly commitment aimed at a strength your child already has.

Every rate on this page has an author

Each AED figure here is attributed to the provider or rate table that published it, read in October 2026, and none of them is our price. Three of six ranking pages in this market publish no price at all, which makes comparison impossible by design.

We recommend ending the work

Most MYP interventions should be short. When the criterion mark moves, we say so and stop rather than converting a fixed block into a standing monthly arrangement. The July bridging block is a separate, deliberate purchase rather than a continuation.

The Personal Project line is published

Questioning scope, achievability and journal habits is legitimate and useful. Making, writing, editing or supplying any part of the project is not, and we do none of it. The school authenticates the work and the consequence of a breach falls on your child.

Selection on criterion knowledge, not distance

Online delivery means the tutor is chosen for understanding how MYP criteria are actually marked rather than for being able to reach Meydan by six o'clock. The pool who genuinely understand criterion marking is small, and the commute filter removes the wrong people from it.

No regulator claimed as a backer

IB Gram holds no KHDA, ADEK, SPEA, Ministry of Education or IB approval, accreditation or partnership. We explain what each body does and point at its own pages, because a parent who checks is in a better position than one who trusts a tutoring site.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Meydan: your questions answered

How much should a Meydan family expect to spend on MYP tutoring?+

Less than on Diploma support, and usually as a fixed block rather than a monthly commitment. Published Dubai rates put qualified online subject tutoring at roughly AED 150 to 300 an hour, which is where most MYP work belongs, and Bestimate's monthly estimates for a weekly hour run AED 240 to 600 at the budget end and AED 600 to 1,200 in the middle band. A three-session criterion block sits well below any monthly figure. Those are market numbers read in October 2026, not our price list; the first lesson with us is free.

Why is MYP tutoring better value than Diploma tutoring?+

Because the gap is still small and there is time to close it. An MYP student has no external paper, no grade boundary deadline and a weakness that is usually a single criterion rather than a compounded content debt. That makes the work teaching rather than triage, which belongs in a lower rate band and takes fewer hours. The same habits fixed in DP2 are bought at specialist exam-year rates, often across two subjects at once, because by then nobody can tell where the problem actually lives.

What do four criterion marks out of eight actually tell me?+

More than the converted grade does. Each subject is assessed against four published criteria, each out of eight, totalling 32 before boundaries convert it into a grade from one to seven. The pattern is what matters. Marks of seven, three, four and six indicate a specific criterion problem rather than a subject problem, and in sciences and mathematics the low one is almost always a process criterion rather than the knowledge criterion. That single observation tells you whether to buy three sessions or a term.

My child holds 6s in the MYP but the school says that is not enough for Higher Level. Why?+

Because the two systems reward different things. MYP criteria pay for explanation, process and reflection, judged against descriptors by a teacher who knows the student. Diploma assessment pays for a visible reasoning line, marked against a published scheme by an examiner who does not. A student who writes a confident paragraph without showing substitution was rewarded for that in MYP 4 and will be marked down for it in DP1. The fix is a handful of habits, not more content, and it is far cheaper bought in July.

Is a weekly MYP tutor usually the right purchase?+

Only where the criterion marks show an even content gap across the subject. Where the knowledge criterion is strong and a process criterion is weak, a weekly arrangement delivers more of what the child can already do, and families then conclude that tutoring does not work for them. The better default is a fixed block of three or four sessions on the single low criterion, with the student producing two pieces against it, and a deliberate stop. Audit anything weekly every term against the written notes.

Which MYP year gives the best return on a paid hour?+

MYP 3 and MYP 4 for habits, and the summer after MYP 5 for the transition. In the earlier years the skills that transfer are number fluency, rearranging formulae, writing a repeatable method and structuring an argued paragraph, and none of them is under deadline pressure yet. The summer block is different: it targets the move from criterion marking to examination marking, which is the most predictable difficulty in a Dubai school career and the one most consistently paid for too late.

Why is the lowest mark on my child's report an interdisciplinary unit?+

Usually because nobody prepares for it. Interdisciplinary units are assessed against their own criteria across combined subjects, and they rarely feature in revision or in parents' attention, so the mark sits low without indicating a problem in either contributing subject. Check it before concluding that a subject is failing. It is worth asking the school what the unit asked for, but it is rarely the thing to spend money on, and it is frequently mistaken for a science or humanities weakness.

My child's language acquisition phase has not changed all year. Is something wrong?+

Probably not. Language acquisition is marked in phases rather than year groups, and phases cover a range of ability that a student can spend more than one academic year inside. Moving year group without moving phase is ordinary. What is worth asking the teacher is which specific skill the next phase requires, because the answer is usually concrete, such as sustained speaking to a prompt or writing to a given text type, and that is something a short block can address directly.

May a tutor help my child with the MYP Personal Project?+

Only by questioning, never by contributing. A tutor may ask whether the goal is achievable with the time and resources available, whether the success criteria the student set are testable, and whether the process journal records enough decisions to support a genuine reflection. A tutor may not choose the goal, design or make the product, write or edit the report or the journal, or supply material the student presents as their own. IB Gram provides none of that; the school authenticates the work and the consequence falls on the student.

Do MYP students sit external examinations at the end of MYP 5?+

It depends entirely on the school. MYP eAssessment exists as a route to the IB MYP certificate, and some schools in Dubai enter students for it while others do not and report on internal criterion assessment alone. The answer changes what a final MYP year should look like, so ask your school directly rather than assuming. For most Meydan families the more consequential question is which sixth-form route the school's own students take, since that decides what MYP 5 is preparing for.

Which schools near Meydan run the MYP?+

Meydan has no school inside it, so students travel. The IB continuum schools in the nearest belt, Nad Al Sheba, include North London Collegiate School Dubai and GEMS Modern Academy, with Repton School Dubai and Kent College Dubai also within a short drive. Across Ras Al Khor Road families use Hartland International School and Swiss International Scientific School Dubai, the latter running the bilingual route. Each sets its own criterion assessment calendar and Personal Project deadline. These schools are named as context only; no affiliation is implied.

Does paying for an in-home MYP tutor in Meydan buy anything extra?+

It buys an adult in the room, which genuinely helps some children of this age and does nothing for others. Published Dubai rates put in-home one-to-one at AED 180 to 500 an hour against roughly AED 150 to 300 for qualified online work, and the difference is the drive. Meydan adds a specific problem: the approach from Al Quoz or Al Khail Road between four and six is slow, so a local tutor's earliest offer is usually later than you wanted. IB Gram does not offer home visits anywhere in the UAE; that service runs only in India.

What time can an MYP session start on a Meydan weeknight?+

About quarter past four is realistic once the Nad Al Sheba school run is finished, and that assumes the student can begin without a parent in the room. Many Meydan parents work in Business Bay or DIFC and are not back until five or later, which is one practical advantage of the online format at this age: the session starts on time and the written note tells the parent what happened. If a parent wants to be present, half past five is the honest earliest.

How do the Dubai mandatory subjects fit into an MYP timetable?+

They take real space. KHDA requires Arabic, Islamic Education and Social or Moral Studies in all Dubai private schools regardless of the licensed curriculum, counted in 40-minute lesson units with 25 minutes the advised minimum for any mandatory lesson. Separate classes are required for Arabs and non-Arabs and combined classes are prohibited. For these subjects, additional or different content without prior Ministry of Education permission is not allowed. Count those periods before choosing a tutoring slot, or the slot will be moved repeatedly and then dropped.

Can one tutor cover two children in the same Meydan household?+

Often yes, in separate slots, and MYP work is where this makes the most sense. Two children in different MYP years frequently have the same underlying weakness, typically a process criterion or basic algebraic fluency, so one tutor who has diagnosed it in one child recognises it quickly in the other. Each child still needs their own session, because criterion work is specific to their own produced pieces. There is no travel to price twice, which is part of why the online format is economical for larger households.

Will an MYP tutor promise my child's grade will rise?+

No, and be careful with anyone who does. Criterion marks reflect work the student produces between sessions, judged against descriptors by their own teacher, so no tutor controls the outcome. What a tutor can do is name the low criterion, explain what the descriptor actually rewards, have the student produce pieces against it and show the difference. Several pages in this market publish improvement percentages with no sample size, date or method behind them. Ask how the figure was calculated and watch what happens next.

Spend small, spend early, spend on the right criterion

MYP support is the cheapest effective tutoring available to a Meydan family, and the reason it gets wasted is almost always targeting rather than price. Send us the report page with the four criterion marks out of eight, tell us the school and the hour that works on a Meydan weekday, and we will say whether this is a three-session block, a term of content teaching, or a conversation with the school before anybody pays anything. The first lesson is free, no card is needed, and sessions run one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time.
