IB & IGCSE in Jumeirah 3

Three sciences, two grades or one: the entry decides everything else

Science is the subject where Dubai families most often buy the wrong amount of tutoring, and the cause is almost always a misunderstanding about the entry. A student taking Cambridge Biology 0610, Chemistry 0620 and Physics 0625 is sitting three separate courses and will receive three grades. A student taking Co-ordinated Sciences 0654 is sitting one course covering all three disciplines and will receive two grades from a double award. A student taking Combined Science 0653 receives a single grade. The content, the volume and the paper structure differ in each case.

The practical consequence is money. Parents of a co-ordinated or combined candidate frequently hire three separate science tutors, one per discipline, because that is the shape the subject appears to have. They then pay three times the rate to cover material that is not all on the paper, while the actual difficulty, which is the breadth of a single syllabus, goes unaddressed. Conversely, a triple-science candidate given one generalist science tutor usually gets thin coverage of all three and depth in none.

The second thing to establish is the practical component. Cambridge science entries include either a practical test or a written alternative to practical, and the two require quite different preparation. The alternative to practical is a written paper about experimental method, data and evaluation, and it can be prepared for thoroughly without a laboratory. A practical test cannot, and no honest tutor will claim otherwise. Laboratory time belongs to the school; what a tutor adds is the analysis, the evaluation and the writing.

The third is the tier. Core entries sit the lower-numbered papers and are graded C to G; Extended entries sit the higher-numbered papers and are graded A* to E. A student working towards a grade the entry does not permit is a specific, avoidable waste, and in science it is discovered more often than in any other subject because the papers feel similar from the outside. Ask which tier your child sits, on what evidence the decision was made, and what the school's internal cut-off is for changing it. All three answers cost nothing, and all three are a great deal easier to obtain in October than they are in April.

Everything here is delivered one-to-one online over live video on Gulf Standard Time, scheduled around the Jumeirah 3 school run. IB Gram does not send tutors to homes anywhere in the UAE; home visiting is a service we run only in India. For science in particular, the honest statement is that online tuition is where the written marks are won and the school laboratory is where the practical skills are built, and a good plan uses both rather than pretending one replaces the other.

The schools nearest Jumeirah 3 run several different science routes, and families with two children frequently have one on a triple-science entry and one on a double award. These are the routes our Dubai tutors cover.

0610 / 0620 / 0625Ages 14-16 · Years 10 and 11

Cambridge IGCSE separate sciences

Biology 0610, Chemistry 0620 and Physics 0625 taught and examined as three independent subjects, each tiered into Core and Extended and each producing its own grade. The paper pattern uses a multiple-choice component, a theory component and a practical element, with the component numbers differing between Core and Extended entries.

Triple science is the common route in the British-curriculum schools around Jumeirah 3 for students heading towards A Level sciences or Higher Level IB sciences. It is also the heaviest content load in Year 11, which is why science enquiries from this corridor peak in the term before the papers rather than at the start of Year 10.

0654Ages 14-16 · Years 10 and 11

Cambridge IGCSE Co-ordinated Sciences

A double award covering biology, chemistry and physics in one syllabus and producing two grades. The content is narrower than three separate sciences but broader than any one of them, which is the specific difficulty: students must hold three disciplines in mind without the depth that makes each one memorable.

Families whose child is on 0654 often do not realise it is a single syllabus, and hire three tutors. One tutor who knows the 0654 content boundaries is usually both cheaper and more effective, because the work that matters is deciding what is not on the paper as much as what is.

0653Ages 14-16 · Years 10 and 11

Cambridge IGCSE Combined Science

A single award covering all three disciplines and producing one grade. The lightest of the three science routes by content, and often the right choice for a student whose strengths lie elsewhere and who needs a science qualification rather than a science specialism.

A combined entry can still be the right route to a strong overall set of results, but it does limit post-16 science options at most Dubai schools. If A Level or Higher Level science is the intention, that conversation needs to happen before entries close rather than after results.

4BI1 / 4CH1 / 4PH1Ages 14-16 · Years 10 and 11

Pearson Edexcel International GCSE sciences

Pearson's separate science qualifications, alongside double and single award routes, with a different paper structure and different question styles from Cambridge. Specifications, sample assessment materials and timetables are published on Pearson's own support pages.

Pearson's November 2026 International GCSE timetable ran from late October to 19 November 2026, with November 2025 results reaching students on 22 January 2026 and June 2026 results reaching students on 20 August 2026. Confirm which board your school enters before buying any practice material, because the question styles are not interchangeable.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

Science tutoring in Dubai is most effective when it targets named topics rather than whole subjects, because the topics that lose marks are remarkably consistent. These are the ones families ask about most, with the specific failure in each.

Physics: electricity and circuits

0625 Core and Extended; 4PH1

Series and parallel circuits, potential dividers, and calculations involving current, voltage and resistance. The reliable failure is treating a parallel branch as a series one, and losing every subsequent mark in a chain calculation. Drawing and labelling the circuit before calculating fixes most of it.

Physics: electromagnetism and induction

0625 Extended; 4PH1

Motor effect, generators, transformers and the relationship between turns and voltage. Marks are lost on direction: which way the field points, which way the force acts. Students who have learned the rules as mnemonics without a diagram usually apply them inconsistently under pressure.

Physics: waves and optics

0625 Core and Extended

Refraction, total internal reflection, critical angle and wave calculations. Ray diagrams are a mark-scheme requirement with specific conventions, including arrows and construction lines, and a diagram that looks right but omits the conventions scores below one that is drawn properly.

Chemistry: moles and stoichiometry

0620 Extended; 4CH1

The single largest source of lost chemistry marks in this market. Calculations involving masses, concentrations and gas volumes require a visible route from the equation to the answer, and students who jump to a number forfeit the method marks even when the number is right.

Chemistry: organic chemistry

0620 Core and Extended

Homologous series, functional groups, addition and substitution, and polymers. Marks go on naming and on drawing structures to the convention the mark scheme expects, including showing all bonds where the question requires a displayed formula.

Chemistry: qualitative analysis and tests

0620 Core and Extended

The tests for cations, anions and gases, with their observations. These are learnable facts that students consistently decline to learn, then lose four or five easy marks on. A fortnight of drilled recall is among the highest-return science revision available.

Biology: transport and gas exchange

0610 Core and Extended

Circulatory and respiratory systems, transpiration, and the structure-function links the mark scheme rewards. Students describe a structure accurately and never connect it to a function, which is the difference between a describe mark and an explain mark.

Biology: genetics and inheritance

0610 Extended; 4BI1

Punnett squares, dominant and recessive alleles, and the vocabulary of genotype, phenotype and heterozygosity. The usual loss is imprecise language: using the word gene where the answer requires allele, which a mark scheme will not accept.

Biology: enzymes and photosynthesis

0610 Core and Extended

Rate graphs, limiting factors and the effect of temperature and pH. These questions almost always ask for an explanation of a trend rather than a description of it, and the explanation requires naming the mechanism, not restating the shape of the curve.

Practical skills across all three sciences

Practical test or alternative to practical

Identifying independent, dependent and control variables, tabulating results with units in the heading, plotting with sensible scales, drawing a line of best fit, evaluating sources of error and suggesting improvements. These are the most transferable marks in the whole science entry and the least practised.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three formats cover nearly every science request from this corridor, and all run online over live video. The choice turns on how many disciplines are genuinely in trouble.

One discipline, weekly

An hour a week on the single science that is losing marks, worked through the specification for the exact code and tier. For most students one discipline is genuinely weak and the other two are fine, and treating the weak one properly costs a third of what three tutors cost and produces more.

  • Specification coverage for the actual code and tier
  • Past-paper questions from the start, not saved for the end
  • Weekly marks on timed questions as the measure
  • Reviewed after six weeks against the same number

Breadth support for a co-ordinated or combined entry

One tutor across a single double-award or single-award syllabus, which is what the entry actually is. The main work is boundary-setting: knowing what the 0654 or 0653 specification includes and, just as importantly, what it leaves out, so a student is not revising material that will never appear.

  • A single syllabus treated as a single subject
  • Explicit list of what the specification excludes
  • Cross-discipline links taught where the paper rewards them
  • One rate rather than three

Practical-skills and data clinics

Short blocks on the written practical component: variables, tables, graphs, conclusions, errors and improvements. These are the most transferable marks in a science entry and the least practised, and they can be prepared for thoroughly without a laboratory because the paper itself is written.

  • Targets the alternative-to-practical paper directly
  • Analysis and evaluation skills for a practical test
  • Graph and table conventions drilled to mark-scheme standard
  • Laboratory work remains the school's job, and we say so

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Jumeirah 3

01

Separate, co-ordinated or combined: find out before you buy anything

This is the first question and most families have never been asked it. Cambridge offers three routes through IGCSE science and they produce different numbers of grades from different volumes of content. Separate sciences, Biology 0610, Chemistry 0620 and Physics 0625, are three independent subjects with three grades. Co-ordinated Sciences 0654 is one syllabus covering all three disciplines and awarding two grades. Combined Science 0653 is one syllabus awarding one grade.

The error that follows from not knowing is expensive in both directions. Parents of a 0654 candidate hire a biologist, a chemist and a physicist, pay three times the rate, and have each of them teach beyond the syllabus boundary because none of them is working from the co-ordinated specification. Parents of a triple-science candidate hire one general science tutor and get three shallow passes instead of one deep one. Both are common, and both are resolved by one email to the exams officer.

Pearson runs an equivalent set of routes with its own codes and its own question styles. A Pearson candidate practising Cambridge papers will meet differently constructed questions and a different balance of marks, which is not catastrophic but is a waste of preparation time that was available for something else.

The table sets the Cambridge routes against each other on the points that decide what tutoring should look like. Exact paper durations and mark totals are published on Cambridge's own syllabus pages and held by your school's exams officer, and should be read from there, because they are revised between series and a number copied from a web page is not evidence.

The practical component, answered honestly

Every Cambridge science entry carries a practical element, and it takes one of two forms: a practical test carried out in a laboratory, or a written alternative-to-practical paper about experimental work. Which one your child sits is decided by the school and appears on the entry. It is worth knowing because the two need completely different preparation and because several providers in this market are vague about what they can and cannot do.

The honest position is this. An alternative-to-practical paper is a written examination, and it can be prepared for completely without a laboratory. It asks candidates to identify variables, read a measuring instrument, complete a results table, plot and interpret a graph, draw a conclusion, identify sources of error and suggest improvements. Those are written skills, they follow mark-scheme conventions, and they are the most reliably recoverable marks in the entire science entry because almost nobody practises them.

A practical test is different. Manipulating apparatus, making an accurate measurement and working safely are built in a laboratory, and that laboratory is the school's. What online tutoring contributes to a practical test is the analysis and the writing: the plan, the table design, the graph conventions, the conclusion and the evaluation. Any provider claiming to replace laboratory hours over a video link is overstating what the format can do.

The practical skills table below is the one to work through with a marked script beside it. In our experience with Dubai candidates, the losses cluster in three places: units omitted from a table heading, a graph scale chosen so the points occupy a quarter of the grid, and an evaluation that lists what went wrong without proposing a specific improvement.

03

Command words, and how long an answer should be

More science marks are lost to command words than to content, and the fix takes about an hour to teach and a term to embed. Each command word in a Cambridge science paper obliges a specific kind of answer, and writing the wrong kind means the correct science scores nothing. A student who writes a beautiful description in answer to an explain question has not been careless; they have not been told what the word means.

The second half of the problem is length. The mark allocation tells a candidate how many distinct points are wanted, and students routinely write one point at great length for a three-mark question or three points in a single clause for a one-mark question. Teaching a student to count the marks and produce that many separate, scoreable statements recovers marks across every topic simultaneously, which is why it is the first thing we do rather than the last.

The third element is precision of vocabulary. In biology, gene and allele are not interchangeable and a mark scheme will not accept one for the other. In chemistry, an observation is not a conclusion. In physics, a force and a field are different things and the answer has to name the right one. These distinctions feel pedantic until a parent sees three or four marks lost to them on one paper.

The table below lists the command words that appear most often in Cambridge science papers alongside what the scheme expects in return. It is the kind of reference no competitor in this market publishes, and it is worth printing and keeping beside the desk for the rest of Year 11.

IGCSE SCIENCE COMMAND WORDS — WHAT EACH ONE OBLIGES
Command wordWhat the answer must containA typical mark allocationThe usual failure

One tutor for three sciences, or three tutors?

This is the question that decides the bill, and the right answer depends entirely on the entry. For a co-ordinated or combined candidate, one tutor working from the single syllabus is both cheaper and better, because the useful work includes knowing what the specification excludes. For a triple-science candidate, the honest answer is usually one or two tutors rather than three, chosen for the disciplines actually losing marks.

The arithmetic is worth seeing. At the published Dubai band for a qualified online subject teacher, roughly AED 150 to 300 an hour, one weekly hour across a term of twelve weeks is in the region of AED 1,800 to 3,600. Three weekly hours across the same term is three times that. Very few Year 11 students are genuinely weak in all three sciences at once; the usual pattern on a marked set of mocks is one subject well below the others and a shared weakness in command words and practical-paper technique.

That shared weakness is the argument for a different kind of booking. A command-word and practical-skills block, taught once, improves answers in all three sciences simultaneously, because the conventions are the same across biology, chemistry and physics. Six sessions on answer structure and the practical paper will often do more for a triple-science candidate's total than twelve sessions spread thinly across three content syllabuses.

The market figures behind that arithmetic are these, each from the provider's own published material rather than from us. Tutopiya advertises from AED 33 to 52 an hour and EdFlik from AED 45 to 65 at the budget online end. Unitors publishes online IGCSE rates from AED 150. TutorChase publishes AED 270. Bestimate's 2026 Dubai table puts a subject specialist at AED 200 to 450 and upwards, in-home one-to-one at AED 180 to 350 and independent home tutors to AED 500, and BartyED publishes AED 650. Monthly packages of AED 799 for eight online sessions circulate widely in the emirate.

Where a marked science mock really goes wrong

  • Ask for scripts, not grades, and categorise every lost mark
  • Command words and presentation usually account for more than content does
  • Qualitative-analysis recall is the cheapest chemistry fix available
  • One mock is a small sample; two timed papers make a reliable diagnosis

Ask for the mock scripts rather than the mock grades and the pattern is usually visible within ten minutes. Across Dubai candidates the losses fall into four groups, and only one of them is a content gap. The first group is command-word failures: the right science written in the wrong form. The second is calculation presentation: a correct value with no working, no unit or an accuracy the question did not ask for. The third is the practical paper, often barely attempted because it was never practised.

The fourth group is genuine content, and it is usually narrower than parents fear. In physics it concentrates in electricity and electromagnetism. In chemistry it concentrates in moles and in the qualitative tests, the second of which is pure recall and therefore the cheapest fix available in the entire subject. In biology it concentrates in genetics vocabulary and in explaining rate graphs rather than describing them.

Working out which group dominates changes the purchase completely. A student losing twenty marks to command words and presentation needs six sessions on answer construction, not a term of content revision. A student losing twenty marks to electromagnetism needs the opposite. A student losing marks evenly across all four groups usually needs to sit two more timed papers before anybody decides anything, because one mock is a small sample.

This is also where honesty about timing matters. With two terms left all four groups can be addressed. With four weeks left, command words, calculation presentation and the practical paper are reachable and a broad content rebuild is not. Saying so is more useful than selling a plan that cannot be completed.

Fitting science sessions into a Jumeirah 3 week

  • First dependable weekday start from Jumeirah 3: around 5pm Gulf Standard Time
  • Book a longer fortnightly slot for practical-paper work with full data sets
  • Use the winter break for one timed paper per science, marked properly
  • Ramadan: early afternoon or post-Iftar, agreed a fortnight ahead

School days along this stretch of coast end between roughly 2.30pm and 3.30pm, and the journey home adds twenty to fifty minutes depending on direction and traffic on Jumeirah Beach Road. From Jumeirah 3 the first weekday session that holds up across a term starts at about 5pm, and the 5pm to 6pm window is the most reliable. Slots at 7pm and 8pm Gulf Standard Time are widely available and often better for a triple-science candidate who needs a longer, calmer session.

Science has a specific scheduling requirement that mathematics does not: the practical paper rewards working through a full data set, and that does not compress neatly into the last fifteen minutes of a session. Families who book a longer slot once a fortnight for practical-paper work, alongside a shorter weekly content session, tend to get more from the same total hours than those who book an identical hour every week.

The winter break is the best uninterrupted window in the Dubai school year for sitting timed science papers, and it is the point at which a triple-science candidate can realistically complete one full paper per subject and have them marked properly. Two or three papers sat across that fortnight produce a far better diagnosis than six squeezed into term time with help.

Ramadan shortens school hours and moves the usable window to the early afternoon or to after Iftar. Both work over live video and both are difficult for anyone driving in Dubai at those hours. Agreeing the month's slot a fortnight in advance, keeping the same tutor and the same weekday, is what keeps a practical-skills block intact rather than losing half of it.

07

Coursework, lab reports and the boundary a tutor keeps

Where a science entry includes any internally assessed or submitted work, the boundary around tutoring support is the same as it is everywhere else in this market and worth stating before any session is booked. A tutor may teach the technique, explain what the marking criteria reward, model a method or a graph on a different data set, read a draft and say which criterion it is failing, and ask questions that make a student re-examine their own reasoning.

A tutor may not write up an experiment on the student's behalf, supply conclusions to be copied, choose the investigation, or process the data and hand over the results. No tutor on this platform produces a lab report, an Internal Assessment or any assessed science writing for a student. That is a genuine differentiator in a market where research found a provider selling completed Internal Assessments outright, and where the exposure of buying one falls entirely on the candidate.

The same applies to materials. Syllabus documents, past papers, mark schemes and grade-boundary tables belong to Cambridge and Pearson, and we link to the boards' own pages rather than reproducing or distributing them. Your school's exams officer has access to more than is published publicly, and both routes cost nothing.

A parent can test any science session afterwards without knowing the subject. Ask your child to explain what they changed in an answer and why the mark scheme required it. A student who can describe the rule has been taught something portable. A student who can only point at the corrected text has been given an answer, and it will not be there in the examination hall.

08

Starting, with the three things that make the first session useful

  • Bring the entry confirmation: board, route, codes, tier, practical component
  • Bring marked mock scripts for each science, with the marks on them
  • Ask the school what free revision and practical support already exists
  • Use the free trial for a categorised diagnosis, not for reassurance

Three items turn a general request for a science tutor near Jumeirah 3 into a brief that works from the first hour. The entry confirmation, showing the board, the route, the codes and the tier, and which practical component your child sits. The marked mock scripts for each science, with the marks visible. And a count of the teaching weeks genuinely left once the school breaks are removed.

With those in hand, use the free trial lesson for diagnosis rather than introduction. A productive first session produces a categorised list of where the marks went, a judgement about whether the problem is one discipline or a shared technique weakness, and an honest statement about what is reachable in the time available. If the trial produces reassurance instead, you have learned what you needed to know about that tutor.

Expect specificity about availability. Separate-science specialists at the exact tier and board are not free at every hour, and for a narrow request close to a paper date the honest answer is sometimes a different weekday or a short wait. We prefer saying that to putting a generalist into a chemistry booking where the whole value depends on knowing how the moles calculations are marked.

One last suggestion that costs nothing. Before buying anything, ask the school whether departmental revision sessions, past-paper clinics or practical catch-up time already exist. In many Dubai schools they do, they are free, and they cover exactly the practical-paper technique that is otherwise the first thing a parent pays for.

Where we tutor

Areas covered on the same terms as Jumeirah 3

Jumeirah 3 runs along the beach road between Jumeirah 2 and Umm Suqeim, with Al Safa and Al Manara inland. Because lessons are delivered over live video, every area below is served identically; what differs is the hour each family can hold.

Jumeirah 2

Immediately east along the same road, with shorter school runs and therefore a slightly earlier first session. Mostly triple-science entries from the British-curriculum schools nearby.

Jumeirah 1

The densest part of the corridor for schools, and the area where co-ordinated and triple entries appear in roughly equal numbers in our enquiries.

Al Safa

Inland and feeding several British-curriculum schools, which makes it the strongest source of separate-science enquiries in this cluster.

Umm Suqeim

Further west with a heavier IB presence, so more questions about how an IGCSE science grade affects a Higher Level Diploma science choice.

Al Manara

Quiet, inland, and the area where later slots at 7pm are most often requested because both parents commute from Business Bay or DIFC.

Al Wasl

Directly inland along Al Wasl Road, with households commonly running a Year 11 candidate and a younger sibling and wanting consecutive slots.

Al Quoz

Mixed residential and commercial, where longer school runs push the first dependable session towards 5.15pm during term.

Al Badaa

Between Jumeirah and Satwa, with a mix of school types producing a mix of science routes within the same few streets.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Establish the route and the codes

Separate sciences, co-ordinated double award or combined single award, and which board. This single fact decides how many tutors a family actually needs, and getting it wrong is the most expensive error available in science tutoring because it multiplies the bill by three.

  2. 02

Read the marked scripts, not the grades

We go through each science mock question by question and sort every lost mark into command word, calculation presentation, practical paper or genuine content. In most Dubai cases the first three together outweigh the fourth, which changes what the sessions should be spent on.

  3. 03

    Decide one tutor or two

If the losses are concentrated in one discipline, that is where the hours go. If they are spread evenly across three sciences but concentrated in answer technique, a shared command-word and practical block is better value than three content bookings and usually produces more marks.

Separate the lab from the writing

Practical handling belongs to the school laboratory and we say so plainly. What we teach is the written half: variables, tables, graph conventions, conclusions, error analysis and improvements, which is where most of the practical-component marks actually sit.

  5. 05

Measure in marks and stop when done

Progress is reported as marks on timed questions against the board's published scheme, compared with the previous paper. If the number has not moved across two consecutive papers we change the plan, and when the target is secure we say so rather than extending into the last fortnight.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

We ask about the route before the subject

A co-ordinated double award is one syllabus, not three, and knowing that saves families the cost of two unnecessary tutors. It is the first question we ask and the one most commonly never asked anywhere else in this market.

Honest about laboratories

Practical handling and accurate measurement are built in a school laboratory, and no video link replaces that. What online tuition does well is the written practical paper and the analysis and evaluation marks, which are the largest recoverable block in a science entry.

Command words taught explicitly

Describe, explain, suggest, compare, determine and predict each oblige a different answer, and the right science written in the wrong form scores nothing. Teaching the words once improves answers in all three sciences at the same time.

Rates published with sources

The Dubai bands and the term totals are on this page with the provider that published each figure, so a family can see what one, two or three weekly sessions actually cost. They are market rates rather than ours, and we publish no IB Gram price list.

No travel, and no lost evenings

Lessons run one-to-one over live video and start when scheduled. IB Gram provides no home visits in the UAE; home visiting is a service we run only in India, so nothing in the rate pays for a car on the beach road at five in the afternoon.

We do not produce assessed work

No tutor here writes up an experiment, supplies conclusions to be copied or processes data on a student's behalf, and we do not reproduce the boards' past papers or mark schemes. We also hold no approval, accreditation or partnership from Cambridge, Pearson, KHDA, MoHRE or the Ministry of Education.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Jumeirah 3: your questions answered

Is my child taking three separate sciences or a co-ordinated award?+

Ask the exams officer for the entry confirmation; it is the only reliable source. Cambridge separate sciences are Biology 0610, Chemistry 0620 and Physics 0625, and they produce three grades. Co-ordinated Sciences 0654 is a single syllabus awarding two grades, and Combined Science 0653 is a single syllabus awarding one. The distinction decides how many tutors a family needs, and parents of co-ordinated candidates commonly hire three when one is both cheaper and more effective, because the useful work includes knowing what the syllabus excludes.

Who covers the laboratory side if the tutoring happens over video?+

The practical element of a Cambridge science entry is either a laboratory practical test or a written alternative-to-practical paper, and which one your child sits is on the entry. Laboratory work belongs to the school and no video link substitutes for it; we say that plainly. The written paper, however, can be prepared for completely online, because it asks for variables, tables, graph plotting, conclusions, error sources and improvements, all of which follow written mark-scheme conventions and are rarely practised.

Does my child need three science tutors for a triple-science entry?+

Usually not. On a marked set of mocks the normal pattern is one science clearly below the others plus a weakness in command words and practical-paper technique that is shared across all three. Three weekly tutors at the published Dubai band of AED 150 to 300 an hour runs to roughly AED 5,400 to 10,800 over a twelve-week term. One discipline plus a six-session technique block is a fraction of that and frequently recovers more marks, because answer structure transfers across biology, chemistry and physics at once.

Which IGCSE science topics do Dubai students lose the most marks on?+

In physics, electricity and circuits followed by electromagnetism, usually because a parallel branch was treated as a series one or a direction rule was applied without a diagram. In chemistry, moles and stoichiometry, where correct answers lose method marks for having no visible route, and the qualitative-analysis tests, which are pure recall and therefore the cheapest fix available. In biology, genetics vocabulary, where gene is written for allele, and rate graphs, where a trend is described rather than explained.

Why does my child write a full answer and still score one mark out of three?+

Almost always because of the command word or the mark allocation. Describe asks what happens; explain asks for the mechanism, and a description in answer to explain scores nothing however accurate it is. The mark allocation also tells a candidate how many separate scoreable points are wanted, and students routinely write one point at length for three marks. Counting the marks and producing that many distinct statements recovers marks across every topic simultaneously, which is why it is the first thing we teach rather than the last.

Which written skills carry the marks on the practical component?+

Written experimental skill. Candidates are asked to identify independent, dependent and controlled variables as measurable quantities, read values to the precision of a scale, complete a results table with quantity and unit in the heading, plot a graph with a sensible scale and a line of best fit, draw a conclusion in the terms of the question, identify specific sources of error and propose a specific improvement for each. Every one of those is a convention, and conventions are teachable in a handful of sessions without any apparatus.

Does Core or Extended limit the science grade my child can get?+

Yes. A Core science entry sits the lower-numbered components and is graded C to G; an Extended entry sits the higher-numbered components and is graded A* to E. The tier is set at entry, usually a term or more before the papers, and the real deadline for changing it is the school's internal cut-off rather than the board's published date. If your child is working towards a grade the entry does not permit, that is a conversation with the school rather than something tutoring can resolve.

Can a combined science grade still lead to A Level or IB science?+

Sometimes, but it narrows the options at most Dubai schools, and the decision needs taking before entries close rather than after results. Post-16 science courses publish grade conditions and some specify a separate-science background. If A Level or Higher Level Diploma science is the intention, ask the school directly what their own entry conditions are for a combined-award candidate and get the answer in writing, because it varies between schools in this emirate.

How many science sessions a week should a Year 11 candidate in Dubai have?+

One weekly hour on the weakest discipline, plus a short block on command words and the practical paper, covers most cases. That is around twelve to eighteen hours across a term, or roughly AED 2,700 to 5,400 at the published AED 150 to 300 band. Two weekly disciplines is sometimes justified. Three almost never is, and families who book three usually discover at the end of term that one subject accounted for most of the gap all along.

Will a science tutor visit our home in Jumeirah 3?+

Not through IB Gram. We deliver one-to-one tuition online over live video everywhere in the UAE, and we do not provide home visits in Dubai or anywhere else in the Emirates; home visiting is a service we run only in India. Independent in-home tutors operate in the emirate and are quoted at roughly AED 180 to 500 an hour with travel inside the figure. For science specifically the thing a home visit cannot supply either is a laboratory, which remains the school's.

What time can a science session start from Jumeirah 3 during term?+

Around 5pm is the first weekday start that holds up across a whole term, because school days here finish between roughly 2.30pm and 3.30pm and the run home adds twenty to fifty minutes. Slots at 7pm and 8pm Gulf Standard Time are widely available and often better for a triple-science candidate. Science also benefits from a longer fortnightly slot for practical-paper work with a full data set, which does not fit into the last quarter of an hour of a weekly session.

Can a tutor help write up a science investigation or lab report?+

A tutor may teach the technique, explain what the criteria reward, model a method or a graph on different data, read a draft and name what it is failing, and ask questions that force the student to re-examine their reasoning. A tutor may not write up the experiment, supply conclusions to be copied, choose the investigation or process the data and hand over results. The work has to be the student's, and a parent can test it afterwards by asking their child to explain each change and the rule behind it.

When do IGCSE science papers and results fall for candidates in the UAE?+

UAE candidates sit the June and November series. Pearson's final November 2026 International GCSE timetable ran from late October to 19 November 2026; November 2025 results reached students on 22 January 2026, and June 2026 results went to centres on 19 August and to students on 20 August 2026. Cambridge also runs June and November series and allocates every centre to one of six administrative zones with its own timetable version, so confirm your zone's timetable with the exams officer and plan against the live official version.

Is a tutor teaching science to a Dubai student required to hold a permit?+

Yes. Private tuition in the UAE requires a MoHRE private tuition work permit, introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023 and granted free of charge for two years. Eligible applicants include registered school teachers, government and private-sector employees, unemployed residents, university students and school students aged 15 to 18. Anyone tutoring without one is subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws, and no fine schedule has been published, so treat specific figures quoted at you as unverified. This is a MoHRE permit, not a KHDA school licence.

What should we send before the free science trial lesson?+

The entry confirmation showing board, route, codes, tier and which practical component your child sits; the marked mock scripts for each science with the marks visible; and a count of the teaching weeks genuinely left after school breaks are removed. With those, a first session can produce a categorised list of lost marks and a judgement about whether this is a one-discipline problem or a shared technique problem. The trial is free, needs no card details and carries no obligation to continue.

Settle the entry, then settle the tutoring

Separate sciences, a co-ordinated double award and a combined single award are three different purchases, and families in Jumeirah 3 routinely buy the wrong one because nobody asked which entry their child is on. Get the confirmation from the exams officer, collect the marked mock scripts, and bring both to a free trial lesson. Expect a categorised list of where the marks went, an honest line about what the school laboratory has to supply and what online work can, and a plan that is usually smaller than you feared. Sessions run one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time.
