IB & IGCSE in Jumeirah 3

Physics in Jumeirah 3, counted from the exam date backwards

Most searches for an IB physics tutor in Jumeirah 3 happen in one of three weeks of the year: the fortnight after the first set of DP1 unit tests, the week mock results come home in January, and the panicked days after a scientific investigation draft gets a comment the student did not expect. The subject does not get harder in those weeks. The calendar does. Physics is the one DP subject where a term lost to vague revision cannot be recovered by working harder in May, because the paper rewards practised technique rather than remembered content.

So this page is organised around time rather than around topics. It sets out what the assessment model actually asks for, what the next eight weeks have to achieve depending on where your child sits in the two-year programme, and what a weekly session should produce by way of evidence that it worked. If your child is in DP1 and the first internal assessment deadline is six weeks away, the work is different from a DP2 student eleven weeks out from the May session, and a tutor who treats both the same is being paid to teach a syllabus instead of a student.

Jumeirah 3 is a villa district between Al Wasl Road and Jumeirah Beach Road, and the families here sit across a wide spread of schools: IB continuum schools in Umm Suqeim and Al Barsha, British schools in Al Safa and Al Sufouh running IGCSE then A Level, and a handful of students doing DP at schools a full thirty minutes inland. That spread matters for one practical reason. The school a child attends sets the internal deadline calendar, and no two of those calendars agree. A tutor working to the IB's published assessment structure but ignoring the school's own submission dates will have your child revising Theme D while a draft is overdue.

Online delivery is the part of this that reads like a compromise and is not. IB Gram runs every UAE lesson as one-to-one online tuition over live video; home visits are a service we offer only in India. The gain is specificity. A Jumeirah 3 family gets a Physics HL specialist who has marked uncertainty propagation badly enough times to spot the exact error your child keeps making, rather than whichever science graduate can reach Jumeirah 3 by 4.30pm. The second gain is the clock. A session that does not need a car can start at 4pm, pause for a 20-minute break, and finish before homework starts.

What follows is specific: the weightings of each paper, a week-by-week plan for a block of eight weeks, the four criteria the scientific investigation is marked against, what Dubai providers published as their 2026 rates, and the line a tutor must not cross on assessed work. Read the exam-session table even if your child is in DP1. Entry deadlines, internal submission dates and mock windows all sit months before the paper, and almost every family that arrives late arrives late because nobody counted backwards.

At a glance

  • Paper 1 carries 36% of the grade at both SL and HL, and half of it is data analysis
  • The scientific investigation is 20% of the final grade and is marked on four criteria worth six marks each
  • Online IB Physics tuition in Jumeirah 3 removes the 30-40 minute cross-city drive from the session cost
  • Internal draft deadlines are set by your school, not by the IB, and vary by weeks between Dubai schools
  • A free trial lesson is used to diagnose the error pattern, not to sell a package
IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Jumeirah 3 students reach DP Physics along two routes: through an IB continuum school that ran the Middle Years Programme, or from an IGCSE science course at a British school in Al Safa or Al Sufouh. The gap to close in the first eight weeks of DP1 is different for each, so the programme notes below are written for this neighbourhood's actual intake.

DPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

Diploma Programme

Two years, six subjects, three at Higher Level. Physics sits in Group 4 and is assessed by two written papers plus a scientific investigation worth 20% of the grade. The subject guide in force for current candidates organises content into themes A to E, with HL extension material inside each theme rather than bolted on at the end, and a set of experimental and mathematical tools examined through the papers.

In Dubai the DP cohort is a minority of the private-school population, which has a practical consequence for Jumeirah 3 families: a school may run only one Physics HL class, and if that class loses a teacher mid-year there is no second set to move into. Several families here use weekly online tuition specifically as continuity insurance against that, rather than as remediation.

MYPAges 11-16 · Years 7-11

Middle Years Programme

Five years assessed against four criteria per subject, each marked out of eight. In Sciences those criteria reward knowing and understanding, inquiring and designing, processing and evaluating, and reflecting on the impacts of science. A student who scored well on criterion A and poorly on criterion C arrives in DP1 able to recall definitions but unable to handle a gradient, an intercept or an uncertainty.

MYP students from Umm Suqeim and Al Barsha continuum schools usually transfer into DP Physics with strong investigation design and weak algebraic fluency, because MYP Sciences rarely demands the rearrangement speed Paper 2 assumes. The first four weeks of tuition for this group is normally pure mathematics applied to physics contexts, not new physics content.

IGCSE to DPAges 15-17 · Year 11 into Year 12

IGCSE Physics into DP Physics

The commonest Jumeirah 3 route. Cambridge 0625 or Pearson 4PH1 ends with recall-heavy theory papers and a practical or alternative-to-practical component. DP Physics then asks for the same content expressed as relationships: proportionality, log plots, error bars and the reasoning behind a straight-line graph. Students who earned an A* by memorising definitions often meet their first real difficulty here.

Year 11 students in Al Safa and Al Sufouh who already know they want Physics HL benefit most from a short bridging block in June and July, before DP1 starts. Six to eight sessions on vectors, logarithms, graph linearisation and uncertainty notation removes most of the autumn-term panic that drives the January search for help.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

Physics is rarely tutored alone. The combinations below are the ones Jumeirah 3 families actually request alongside it, and the notes say what each one assesses and where the marks tend to go.

Physics

HL and SL

Themes A to E, with Paper 1 split between multiple choice and data analysis, Paper 2 extended response, and a scientific investigation. Marks are lost disproportionately on uncertainty treatment, graph interpretation and the difference between the command terms explain, describe and state.

Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches

HL and SL

The usual pairing with Physics HL. The overlap that matters is calculus applied to motion and fields, plus logarithms for exponential decay. A student weak in AA algebra will read every Physics question twice and still mishandle the rearrangement.

Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation

HL and SL

Chosen by Physics SL students more often than schools expect. Its statistics and regression content actually helps the data-analysis half of Paper 1, but it gives less practice in symbolic manipulation, so algebra needs separate attention in sessions.

Chemistry

HL and SL

Taken with Physics by most engineering and medicine applicants here. The shared skill is quantitative reasoning under time pressure; the shared failure is the scientific investigation, where both subjects demand the same methodological rigour and students write two weak reports instead of one good method twice.

Computer Science

HL and SL

A Group 4 alternative that some Jumeirah 3 students pair with Physics. Useful overlap in modelling and logic; no overlap at all in laboratory technique, which means the investigation has to be learned once rather than practised across two subjects.

Design Technology

HL and SL

Offered by a few Dubai IB schools and often misread as the easier Group 4 option. It rewards iterative design documentation rather than numerical problem solving, so it is a poor substitute for Physics on an engineering application and a reasonable companion to it.

Sports, Exercise and Health Science

HL and SL

Chosen by students who want applied science without heavy mathematics. Its mechanics content leans on the same force and moment concepts as Physics Theme A, so a tutor can treat the two together when a student takes both.

Extended Essay in Physics

4,000 words, externally assessed

A 4,000-word independent research piece supervised by a school teacher. Tutoring here is process coaching: narrowing a research question, judging whether the measurement is feasible with school apparatus, and reading a draft critically. The argument, the words and the data must be the student's own.

Theory of Knowledge

Core requirement

The essay and exhibition both reward precise examples, and Physics gives good ones: measurement uncertainty as a knowledge limit, models that are known to be wrong but useful. Sessions tend to focus on turning a physics example into a knowledge claim rather than a summary.

IB Physics IA support

20% of the final grade

The scientific investigation is marked on research design, data analysis, conclusion and evaluation. IB Physics IA support in a session means pressure-testing the research question, checking that the independent variable is genuinely controllable, and teaching uncertainty propagation before data collection rather than after.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three formats cover almost every Jumeirah 3 Physics request. The difference between them is not price but what the calendar demands, and a family often moves between them across a two-year programme.

Weekly one-to-one over live video

A fixed slot, usually 60 or 90 minutes, held for the whole term. The session follows the school's teaching order so tuition reinforces rather than competes with class, with one topic reviewed, one new technique taught and a timed question set issued for the week. This is the format that suits DP1 and the first half of DP2.

  • Same tutor, same time, same shared whiteboard file each week
  • Written note after each session naming the next week's target
  • Question sets drawn from past paper style tasks, not worksheets
  • Pauses available for school trips and exam weeks

Eight-week intensive block before a session

Two sessions a week for eight weeks, built around the paper rather than the syllabus. Weeks one to three rebuild the weakest theme, weeks four to six run timed Paper 1 and Paper 2 sections under exam conditions, and the last two weeks are pure error-log work on the mistakes the timed papers exposed. This is the May session revision plan most DP2 families book in February.

  • Diagnostic paper first, so the block targets measured gaps
  • Timed sections marked against published mark scheme wording
  • An error log the student keeps and the tutor reviews weekly
  • Final fortnight spent only on recurring errors

Investigation clinic

Short, targeted sessions for the scientific investigation, usually three to five of them. The first checks that the research question can be answered with the apparatus available, the next two work on uncertainty handling and graphing, and the last reads a complete draft against the four criteria and gives feedback the student then acts on alone.

  • Research question stress-tested before data collection starts
  • Uncertainty propagation taught once, properly, with the student's own data
  • Feedback given as questions, never as rewritten text
  • Schedules fit around the school's own submission date

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Jumeirah 3

01

What a Jumeirah 3 family is really asking when they search for a Physics tutor

  • October request: DP1 technique gap, 12-16 week rebuild
  • January request: post-mock triage, eight to twelve weeks of paper work
  • March request: investigation and final-topic consolidation only
  • June or July request: bridging work before DP1 starts, six to eight sessions

The literal answer first: an IB physics tutor in Jumeirah 3, through IB Gram, is a DP Physics specialist who teaches your child one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time, usually weekly, starting with a free diagnostic lesson. Nobody drives to your villa. The subject specialist is chosen for the level and the theme your child is struggling with, not for proximity to the beach road.

Underneath the search sits a different question, which is usually some version of how much time is left. A parent searching in October has a DP1 student whose first unit test on Theme A came back lower than their IGCSE results suggested it would. A parent searching in January has mock grades and eleven or twelve weeks. A parent searching in March has a draft investigation and a school deadline. Those are three different jobs, and the honest thing a tutor can do in a first lesson is say which one applies and what it realistically achieves.

The mistake that costs Jumeirah 3 families the most money is booking general science help in week six and discovering in week twelve that the sessions have been revisiting content the student already knew. Physics marks are lost in technique: reading a graph axis, propagating an uncertainty, choosing the right form of an equation, answering a six-mark question with six scoring points instead of three good sentences. A tutor who does not diagnose that in the first hour will fill a term pleasantly and change nothing.

So the first session has one job. The student works through a short mixed set under time, talking aloud, and the tutor records where the error happens rather than whether the answer is right. Three or four error families usually emerge, and the term plan is written against them. That diagnostic is free, it produces a written summary, and families are welcome to take the summary and work from it themselves.

02

The DP Physics assessment model, paper by paper

DP Physics is assessed by two written papers and one piece of internally assessed coursework. Paper 1 carries 36% of the final grade and comes in two parts: a multiple-choice section and a data-analysis section built on an unseen experiment. Paper 2 carries 44% and is extended response, mixing short answers with longer structured questions. The scientific investigation accounts for the remaining 20%, and it is marked by the school against IB criteria and then externally moderated.

That split is the single most useful fact on this page, because it tells you where tuition hours should go. Four marks in five come from written papers, and the data-analysis half of Paper 1 is the part students practise least. It is also the part that transfers: the skill of reading an unfamiliar experiment, identifying the controlled variables and interpreting a gradient is the same skill the investigation is marked on. Time spent there is counted twice.

Higher Level is not Standard Level with harder questions. It is more content inside the same five themes, longer papers, and a markedly higher expectation of algebraic fluency. A student can hold an acceptable SL grade while rearranging equations slowly, and the same habit at HL will cost them Paper 2 marks on time alone. The table below sets out the structure; the weightings are those published in the subject guide for current candidates, and your child's DP coordinator can confirm the version their cohort sits.

One caution about dates, since it comes up in the first lesson most weeks. IB examination and results dates are published by the IB and by your school, and this page does not restate them, because a date restated second-hand and then revised is worse than no date. Ask the DP coordinator for the cohort's own timetable and the internal submission calendar, and bring both to the first session.

03

The next eight weeks, counted backwards

An eight-week block is the unit most Jumeirah 3 families can realistically commit to, and it is long enough to change a grade if it is spent on the right things. The structure below assumes two sessions a week for a DP2 student working toward the May session, with the first session diagnostic and the last two spent entirely on recurring errors. A DP1 student runs the same shape over sixteen weeks at one session a week.

The reason this is written as a countdown rather than a syllabus plan is that revision has a natural order and most students get it backwards. They begin with the topic they like, leave the weakest theme until last, and run out of time before it is covered. Counting backwards forces the opposite: the weakest theme is rebuilt first, when there is still time to practise it, and the strong topics are maintained with short timed sets rather than re-taught.

Evidence matters as much as the plan. Each week should produce something checkable, because a session that feels productive and leaves no trace is indistinguishable from a conversation. A marked timed section, a graph drawn correctly to scale, an uncertainty calculated to the right number of figures, an error log with three entries closed out: these are the artefacts that tell a parent paying by the hour whether anything moved.

Ramadan falls inside the Dubai revision calendar in most years, and it changes the shape of a week rather than cancelling it. Families usually move sessions later, after Iftar, and shorten them to 45 or 60 minutes. Shorter and more frequent works better than long weekend blocks during fasting, and the last fortnight before a paper is a poor time to change tutor or format.

04

Where Physics marks actually disappear

  • Uncertainty propagation taught with the student's own measurements, not a textbook example
  • Graph linearisation practised until choosing the axes is automatic
  • Command-term drills read against published mark-scheme wording
  • Algebraic rearrangement timed, because the paper times it

Five error families account for most of the difference between a 4 and a 6 in DP Physics, and none of them is a knowledge gap. The first is uncertainty: students quote a reading uncertainty and forget that it propagates through a calculation, or add percentages where they should add absolutes. The second is graph work: plotting raw data when the relationship needs linearising, drawing a line of best fit through the origin because the equation suggests it should pass through, or reading a gradient off two data points instead of the line.

The third is command terms, and it is the cheapest to fix. State, describe, explain, outline, deduce and justify ask for structurally different answers, and the mark scheme pays for the structure. A student who writes a paragraph of correct physics in answer to a two-mark state question loses time they needed elsewhere, and a student who gives one sentence to a six-mark explain question loses four marks they already knew. One session on command terms, with past-paper mark schemes read side by side, usually moves Paper 2 more than a month of content revision.

The fourth is algebra under time. Physics Paper 2 assumes rearrangement is automatic, and for a student who learned to solve equations by substitution rather than manipulation it never is. This is the one gap that genuinely needs mathematics teaching rather than physics teaching, and it is why a Physics HL student weak in Mathematics AA often needs both subjects addressed in the same session for a few weeks.

The fifth is the written investigation, where marks are lost before any data is collected. A research question that cannot be answered with the apparatus available, an independent variable that cannot be controlled cleanly, too few levels of that variable to show a relationship: these are design faults, and no amount of careful writing afterwards recovers the marks. That is why the investigation clinic starts with the question and the method rather than the report.

05

The scientific investigation: four criteria, twenty-four marks, and the line a tutor holds

The internally assessed investigation in DP Physics is worth 20% of the final grade and is marked against four criteria, each carrying six marks, for twenty-four in total: research design, data analysis, conclusion and evaluation. Those letters and totals are the single most useful piece of information a parent can have, because they convert a vague instruction to write a good report into four separate things that can be practised. Competitor pages in this market almost never name a criterion, let alone a mark allocation.

Research design is where the grade is usually decided. The criterion rewards a research question with a clearly identified independent and dependent variable, a method that controls the rest, and a justification for the range and number of measurements. Data analysis rewards correct processing, including uncertainties carried through to the final result and graphs that show the relationship rather than decorate the page. Conclusion asks for an answer to the research question supported by the data and compared with accepted physics. Evaluation asks for weaknesses weighed by their impact, not simply listed.

The boundary on a tutor's role is firm and worth stating plainly, because this SERP contains businesses that sell finished coursework. A tutor teaches technique, asks questions about a draft, points at a criterion and explains what the examiner expects to see. A tutor does not supply text, does not edit a report into shape, and does not provide a method for the student to adopt as their own. The report, the data and the reasoning must come from the student; anything else is academic malpractice under IB rules and the risk sits with your child, not with the tutor.

In practice that means feedback is delivered as questions. Which variable did you decide not to control, and why? What does the gradient of your graph physically represent? If your uncertainty is this large, can you still claim the relationship you have claimed? A student who answers those questions and then revises their own report has both learned the criterion and kept their work their own.

What Physics tuition costs around Jumeirah 3, and what travel costs on top

Published 2026 rates from Dubai tutoring providers put budget online tutoring, usually delivered by university students, at roughly AED 45 to AED 150 an hour. Qualified subject tutors working online sit at about AED 150 to AED 300. In-home one-to-one visits, with travel built into the price, run from around AED 180 to AED 500. Specialist IB, IGCSE and A Level tutors are quoted between AED 200 and AED 450 or more, and premium named tutors reach AED 650. Those are market figures from provider rate cards and the Bestimate 2026 Dubai tutoring cost table, not an IB Gram price list; our own fee is quoted after the free trial lesson, once the level and frequency are known.

The number that does not appear on any rate card is the travel cost, and in this part of Dubai it is the biggest hidden item. A tutor coming to Jumeirah 3 from Al Barsha or Business Bay at 4.30pm is committing 60 to 80 minutes of unpaid travel to a 60-minute lesson, and that cost is recovered either in the hourly rate or in the size of the pool willing to take the booking. It is also why in-home sessions in this strip cluster at awkward times: late evening, or weekend mornings, because that is when the drive works.

There is a second cost that only shows up in March. Specialist availability thins sharply in the eight weeks before a session, and the tutor a family could have had in October is booked. Families who start weekly work early pay a lower rate for a better match; families who start late pay a premium for whoever is free. That is a market fact rather than a sales line, and it applies to every provider in this cluster including us.

Monthly packages advertised in Dubai during 2026 included around AED 799 a month for eight online sessions and AED 1,599 to AED 1,799 a month for four two-hour in-home sessions. Compare the per-hour figure inside a package before signing, and ask what happens to unused sessions. Any offer described as free should state its condition on the same screen: our trial lesson is one lesson, with no card required and no obligation to continue.

Permits, regulators and how a Jumeirah 3 parent checks a tutor is allowed to teach

Private tutoring in the UAE is permitted and regulated. The private tuition work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023 and is issued through the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation. The MoHRE private tutor permit is granted free of charge for two years, and eligible applicants include teachers registered in government or private schools, employees in the government and private sectors, unemployed individuals, university students and school students aged 15 to 18. MoHRE's own service page lists no fee and a two-working-day completion time, with applications made through its app, website and e-services system. Anyone offering private tutoring without that permit is subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws; no fine schedule is published, so no amount should be quoted to you.

Schools are regulated separately and by emirate. Dubai private schools answer to the Knowledge and Human Development Authority, which oversees the quality of private education in the emirate and inspects schools on a six-band scale running from Outstanding down to Very Weak. KHDA inspection bands are published per school on the authority's own site, and that is where to read them: a band is a judgement about a whole school across many measures, not a prediction about one Physics class. A school rated Very Good can still have a weak year in one Group 4 subject, which is precisely the situation that brings families to this page.

Two further rules are worth knowing before you hire anyone locally. In Abu Dhabi, ADEK's professional-ethics rules bar school staff from paid private tutoring of students enrolled at their own school, and the MoHRE permit carries a code of conduct with a similar restriction. Treat any offer of your child's own class teacher, privately, as a problem rather than a shortcut. And a tutoring operation with premises and staff in Dubai needs a KHDA Educational Services Permit, which is a specific licence issued to training institutes; an individual online tutor is a different legal category entirely.

IB Gram holds no regulator or examination-board accreditation and claims none. We are an independent matching platform: we introduce a subject specialist, the lessons run online, and you can ask any tutor for their permit status before the first paid session. We also do not publish inspection ratings on these pages, because a rating read second-hand and then revised is a liability. Check the school's current report on the KHDA site and the permit position on mohre.gov.ae.

Getting started from Jumeirah 3, including what happens if nobody is free

  • Send the school, the level, the themes and the next deadline
  • Free trial lesson, used as a diagnostic, with a written summary
  • Weekly slot held for the term; pauses for school exam weeks
  • If no specialist is free, we say so rather than substituting a generalist

The sequence is short. You send the level, the themes causing trouble, the school and the next deadline. We come back with one or two Physics specialists and a proposed slot in Gulf Standard Time. The trial lesson runs as a diagnostic, after which you receive a written summary naming the error families and a suggested plan length. If you continue, the slot is held weekly for the term; if you do not, the summary is yours to use.

DP Physics tutoring in Jumeirah is one of the narrower requests we handle, and honesty about availability matters more than a confident promise. A Physics HL specialist with current experience of the subject guide is a smaller pool than a general maths tutor, and in the eight weeks before a session that pool is largely committed. If no UAE-based specialist is free at the time your family needs, we say so and offer the two alternatives: a specialist in another time zone whose evening is your afternoon, or a wait for a slot that opens. We do not substitute a general science tutor and describe them as a Physics specialist.

A word on what good looks like after a month. The student can name their own error families without prompting. Timed Paper 1 sections are being completed inside the time rather than abandoned at question 25. The investigation has a research question that survived being challenged. And homework from school is being used as practice rather than treated as a separate burden. If none of that has happened in four sessions, the match is wrong and should be changed rather than persevered with.

Families in Jumeirah 3, Umm Suqeim, Jumeirah 2 and Al Safa share the same teaching slots, so the popular 4pm and 5pm weekday windows fill first each term. Booking the slot before the term starts is worth more than booking extra hours later, and a single weekly session held reliably for twelve weeks beats six sessions crammed into April on every measure we can see.

Where we tutor

Nearby areas we cover around Jumeirah 3

Jumeirah 3 sits in the middle of a coastal strip where almost every family drives to a school in a different community. These are the areas whose students share the same tutoring slots and the same traffic, with the detail that changes how a session is scheduled.

Jumeirah 3

Low-rise villa district between Al Wasl Road and Jumeirah Beach Road. Most secondary students travel out of the area to school, which means the useful session window opens around 4pm once a bus or car has got back.

Umm Suqeim

Immediately south-west along the beach road and home to an IB continuum school plus a well-known British primary. Shares the same bus routes as Jumeirah 3, so the same 4pm and 5pm slots suit both.

Jumeirah 2

The next community inland-north, feeding many of the same schools. Slightly shorter runs to Al Safa, which is why Jumeirah 2 students can often take a 3.45pm slot that a Jumeirah 3 student cannot.

Al Safa

Across Al Wasl Road, with two large British secondary schools. A high share of Physics tutoring requests from this cluster are IGCSE rather than DP, and the two need different tutors.

Al Manara

Between Umm Al Sheif and Al Safa, a quieter villa pocket. Families here often have children at two different schools with two different end times, which makes a fixed online slot easier to hold than a visiting tutor's route.

Al Wasl

The inland edge of the Jumeirah strip, closest to the Sheikh Zayed Road interchanges. Useful for weekend morning sessions, since nobody has to cross the city for them.

Pearl Jumeira

A newer coastal development north of Jumeirah 3 with a growing primary-age population, so demand here is for MYP sciences rather than DP Physics for now.

Al Sufouh

South along the coast toward the university district, with two selective British schools. Sixth-form students here often sit A Level Physics rather than DP, and ask for the same mathematical technique work.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in Jumeirah 3

Jumeirah, Umm Suqeim and Al Safa

The schools closest to Jumeirah 3. The mix matters: an IB continuum school and a selective British school can sit two kilometres apart and set assessment deadlines eight weeks apart, so a tutor plans against the school's calendar rather than a generic one.

  • Raffles World Academy, Umm Suqeim 3
  • Emirates International School - Jumeirah
  • Jumeirah College, Al Safa
  • Horizon English School, Al Safa
  • Kings' School Dubai, Umm Suqeim 3
  • Jumeirah English Speaking School, Jumeirah 1

Al Barsha and Al Sufouh

Where most Jumeirah 3 DP students actually study, 15 to 30 minutes inland depending on the hour. Three IB continuum schools and two selective British schools sit in this band, and the drive home is the single biggest reason an in-home session gets cancelled on a weekday.

  • Dubai International Academy - Al Barsha
  • Dubai American Academy, Al Barsha
  • GEMS World Academy - Dubai
  • Dubai College, Al Sufouh
  • Kings' School Al Barsha
  • Nord Anglia International School Dubai

Schools are named to describe the neighbourhood's education context only; IB Gram has no affiliation with, endorsement from, or partnership with any of them.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Tell us the calendar, not just the subject

The useful first message names the year group, the level, the two or three themes causing trouble, the school, and the next assessed deadline. That is enough to choose between a weekly rebuild, an eight-week block and an investigation clinic before anybody has spoken.

  2. 02

Meet a Physics specialist in a free trial

One lesson, no card details, no obligation. The tutor runs a short mixed set with the student talking aloud and records where each error happens. You get a written summary of the error families and an honest estimate of what a term can achieve.

  3. 03

Agree a plan with evidence attached

The plan names what each week covers and what it should produce: a marked timed section, a corrected graph, a closed error-log entry. Written against the school's own deadline list, so tuition supports class rather than running in parallel to it.

  4. 04

Hold the slot and review monthly

The same tutor keeps the same weekly time in Gulf Standard Time, with sessions moved later during Ramadan and paused for school exam weeks. Every fourth session is a review: what moved, what did not, and whether the plan or the tutor needs to change.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

The specialist, not the nearest available person

Online delivery means the Physics HL tutor your child meets was chosen for having taught Theme D and the data-analysis paper, rather than for living within a 20-minute drive of Jumeirah 3. In a subject this narrow that difference is the whole of the value.

A plan written against your school's dates

Internal submission deadlines, mock windows and report dates are set by the school and differ by weeks between Dubai schools. We work from the coordinator's calendar your child actually lives by, not from a generic revision timetable.

Technique first, content second

Sessions target uncertainty handling, graph work, command terms and algebraic speed, because that is where the marks between a 4 and a 6 sit. Content revision is the cheap part and much of it can be done without a tutor present.

Clear boundaries on assessed work

Feedback on the scientific investigation comes as questions the student answers themselves. No text is supplied, no draft is rewritten, and no method is handed over. That protects your child's grade and their IB registration.

No travel cost, no cancelled sessions

A session that does not depend on a drive across Dubai at 4.30pm does not get cancelled because of traffic on Sheikh Zayed Road, and no part of your fee pays for an hour in a car. Weekday slots start earlier than any visiting tutor can manage.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Jumeirah 3: your questions answered

How many weeks of Physics tutoring does a Jumeirah 3 student need before the May session?+

It depends on what is wrong rather than on how far away the papers are. A technique gap in uncertainties, graphs and command terms is usually addressable in an eight-week block of two sessions a week, and most of the improvement shows up in timed Paper 1 work by week five. A content gap spanning two or three themes needs a term. Arriving with four weeks left means choosing: either the weakest theme or paper technique, not both. The diagnostic in the free trial lesson is designed to tell you which case applies before you commit to a length.

Does an IB physics tutor in Jumeirah 3 come to the villa?+

No. IB Gram delivers every UAE lesson as one-to-one online tuition over live video; home visits are a service we offer only in India. For Physics that trade is strongly in your favour, because the pool of tutors who have taught the current subject guide at Higher Level is small and spread across time zones, while the pool who can reach Jumeirah 3 by 4.30pm on a Tuesday is tiny. Online also means a 4pm start is realistic, shared whiteboard files carry over between sessions, and nothing is cancelled because Sheikh Zayed Road has stopped moving.

What exactly is in Paper 1 for DP Physics, and why does everyone say it is the one to practise?+

Paper 1 carries 36% of the grade and has two parts: a multiple-choice section across all five themes, and a data-analysis section built on an experiment the student has never seen. The second part is the one students practise least and the one that transfers most, because identifying variables, linearising a graph and judging whether a conclusion is supported by the data is exactly what the internally assessed investigation is marked on. Time spent on Paper 1B therefore counts twice. Most eight-week plans we write put a timed data-analysis section in every single week.

My child got an A* in IGCSE Physics and is now getting 4s in DP1. What changed?+

The question style did. IGCSE Physics rewards accurate recall of definitions and standard calculations; DP Physics asks the same content to be used as relationships, with uncertainties carried through and graphs chosen to reveal proportionality. A student who learned to recognise question types rather than manipulate equations meets that wall in the first term of DP1. It is a technique problem, not an ability problem, and twelve to sixteen weeks of weekly work on algebraic fluency, graph linearisation and command terms usually closes it. Starting in October is far cheaper than starting in February.

Where is the line between coaching the scientific investigation and writing it for my child?+

Yes, within clear limits. A tutor may challenge the research question for feasibility, teach uncertainty propagation using the student's own measurements, explain what each of the four criteria rewards, and read a draft and respond with questions. A tutor may not supply the research question, hand over a method, process the data, or rewrite the report. The investigation is worth 20% of the grade and is externally moderated, and work that is not the student's own puts their IB registration at risk. Feedback delivered as questions keeps the learning and keeps the authorship where it belongs.

How are the four Physics investigation criteria weighted?+

Research design, data analysis, conclusion and evaluation each carry six marks, giving twenty-four in total, which the school converts and the IB externally moderates. Research design is where most marks are won or lost, because a question that cannot be answered with the available apparatus caps everything that follows. Data analysis rewards uncertainties carried through to the final result. Conclusion must answer the question and compare with accepted physics. Evaluation must weigh weaknesses by their impact rather than list them. Knowing the letters and the mark split turns a vague task into four practisable ones.

What do Dubai providers charge for one-to-one Physics tuition in 2026?+

Published market rates put budget online tutoring at roughly AED 45 to AED 150 an hour, qualified online subject tutors at AED 150 to AED 300, in-home visits at AED 180 to AED 500 including travel, and IB or A Level specialists at AED 200 to AED 450 or more, with premium named tutors quoted at AED 650. Those figures come from provider rate cards and the Bestimate 2026 Dubai tutoring cost table rather than from us. IB Gram quotes its own fee after the free trial lesson, when the level, frequency and length are known.

Which schools near Jumeirah 3 actually teach DP Physics?+

Most Jumeirah 3 DP students study at IB continuum schools a short drive inland or along the coast, including Raffles World Academy in Umm Suqeim 3, Emirates International School in Jumeirah, and the Al Barsha cluster of Dubai International Academy, Dubai American Academy and GEMS World Academy. Selective British schools nearby, such as Dubai College in Al Sufouh and Jumeirah College in Al Safa, run IGCSE then A Level rather than the Diploma. Named schools here are context about the neighbourhood only; IB Gram has no affiliation with any of them.

Does a Physics tutor teaching my child from Jumeirah 3 need a MoHRE permit?+

Yes. The private tuition work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023 and is issued by MoHRE free of charge for two years, with applications made through the MoHRE app, website or e-services system. Registered school teachers, government and private-sector employees, unemployed residents, university students and school students aged 15 to 18 can all apply. Tutoring without the permit attracts fines and penalties under the applicable laws, and no fine schedule is published, so treat any quoted figure with suspicion. Ask your tutor directly, and verify the rules on mohre.gov.ae.

How do sessions work during Ramadan and school exam weeks?+

Timing shifts rather than stopping. Most Jumeirah 3 families move Physics sessions to after Iftar and shorten them to 45 or 60 minutes, which works better during fasting than long weekend blocks. School examination weeks are usually paused entirely, because a student sitting internal exams needs sleep more than an extra hour of fields revision. What we avoid is changing tutor or format in the final fortnight before a paper, when continuity is worth more than any marginal improvement in teaching style.

Is Physics HL necessary for engineering at a UAE university?+

Entry requirements are set by each university and change, so the only safe answer is to read the course page for the exact programme and intake year. In general, engineering and physical-science degrees in the UAE and abroad look for Physics and Mathematics at Higher Level, and some will accept Physics SL with strong Mathematics. Tutoring cannot change an admissions rule and nobody should suggest it can. What a tutor can do is make Higher Level survivable for a student whose algebra is the limiting factor rather than their physics.

What does the first Physics session actually look like?+

The student works through a short mixed set under light time pressure while talking aloud, and the tutor records where each error occurs rather than whether the answer was right. That usually surfaces three or four error families: uncertainty handling, graph interpretation, command-term structure, algebraic speed. The tutor then shows one fix live, sets two questions for the week, and writes a summary naming the families and a realistic plan length. You receive that summary whether or not you continue, and it is specific enough to work from alone.

Can one tutor cover Physics HL and Mathematics AA together?+

Often, and for Physics HL students with weak algebra it is the efficient choice for the first month. The overlap is real: calculus applied to motion and fields, logarithms for decay, and the rearrangement speed Paper 2 assumes. Once the algebra is no longer the limiting factor, most families split the subjects again, because deep Mathematics AA work and deep Physics work compete for the same hour. We say which case applies after the diagnostic rather than selling two slots by default.

How quickly can a Physics specialist start, and what if none is free?+

Early in the academic year a specialist is usually available within a few days, including the popular 4pm and 5pm Gulf Standard Time weekday slots that Jumeirah 3, Umm Suqeim and Al Safa families compete for. In the eight weeks before a session that pool is largely committed. If nobody suitable is free when you need them, we say so and offer two options: a specialist in another time zone whose evening matches your afternoon, or a place for the next slot that opens. We do not put a general science tutor in a Physics HL seat.

Start from the deadline, not from the syllabus

If your child studies DP Physics and lives in Jumeirah 3, the useful next step is a free diagnostic lesson and a written summary of where the marks are going. Send the year group, the level, the themes causing difficulty, the school and the next assessed deadline, and we will come back with a Physics specialist and a proposed weekly slot in Gulf Standard Time. Lessons run one-to-one online. If a term is what you have, a term is plenty; if a fortnight is what you have, we will tell you honestly what a fortnight can and cannot do.
