IGCSE Home Tutor in Jumeirah 3

Families looking for an IGCSE home tutor in Jumeirah 3 are usually comparing two or three options at once: a tutor who drives over, a centre in Al Quoz, or an online specialist. This page compares them properly, and compares this community with the ones either side, because the right answer in Jumeirah 3 turns out to be the right answer in Umm Suqeim and Al Safa too. Lessons run one-to-one on live video, on Gulf Standard Time, with a free trial lesson before any schedule is set.

  • Matched to your child's exam board, not just to the subject name
  • Cambridge and Pearson Edexcel International GCSE syllabuses both covered
  • Evening slots on Gulf Standard Time, so no session waits on traffic
  • A free trial lesson first, taught on a real topic from the syllabus

IB & IGCSE in Jumeirah 3

Why the Jumeirah 3 answer is also the Umm Suqeim answer

A parent in Jumeirah 3 and a parent in Umm Suqeim, four kilometres apart, run almost the same search and get almost the same list of providers. Both are inside ten minutes of several British-curriculum school gates. Both sit on the two roads that carry the afternoon load along this coast. Both have a Year 10 or Year 11 child who has just brought home a set of marks that do not match the target grade. The interesting part is that the comparison usually ends in the same place regardless of which villa the family lives in, and the reason has nothing to do with distance.

Start with what an IGCSE home tutor in Jumeirah 3 means in practice. Someone qualified drives to the house, teaches for an hour or ninety minutes, and leaves. The appeal is obvious: no technology to manage, a parent in the next room, a child who cannot wander off. The constraint is just as obvious once you look at it from the tutor's side. The person must be free between about 4pm and 7pm, must be able to reach Jumeirah 3 or Umm Suqeim inside that window, and must happen to teach the exact syllabus your child sits. Each condition cuts the pool. Together they usually cut it to whoever is available rather than whoever is right.

IB Gram does not sell home visits in Dubai. Our tutors do not travel to UAE addresses; that is a service we run only in India. What a family on this coast gets instead is one-to-one online IGCSE tutoring with a tutor matched to the board and tier your child is entered for, which is the variable that actually decides whether a session helps. A Cambridge 0580 Extended candidate and a Pearson 4MA1 Higher candidate are sitting different papers with different mark schemes, and a tutor who teaches one fluently and the other approximately will produce a good lesson and a disappointing result.

The cost comparison points the same way. Dubai providers publishing rates during 2026 put online one-to-one with a qualified subject tutor at roughly AED 150 to 300 an hour, and in-home one-to-one at roughly AED 180 to 500 once the drive is absorbed. Budget online options advertise from AED 45 to 65 an hour, and premium named tutors have been quoted at AED 650. Those are market figures from the providers themselves, not our price list. The pattern across all of them is consistent: the travel is never free, and it is paid either in the rate or in a session that starts late.

So this page is built as a set of comparisons. Jumeirah 3 against the communities either side. Cambridge against Pearson Edexcel for the same subject. Core against Extended. Provider model against provider model, with sources and dates for every rate quoted. The Ministry of Education's equivalency rules are set out too, because the number of IGCSE subjects a UAE family needs is a question competitors answer wrongly more often than they answer it at all.

At a glance

  • The board, not the postcode, is the variable that decides whether a tutor fits
  • In-home rates absorb travel; online rates do not, and the published bands show it
  • Core and Extended are different papers with different grade ceilings
  • Five IGCSE subjects at no less than grade E or 3 is the MoE British-track rule
  • Arabic and Islamic Education are excluded from that count of five
IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Along this part of the coast most children meet the International GCSE at 16 after a British primary and lower secondary route, then split between A Levels and the IB Diploma. The four stages below are the ones Jumeirah 3 families ask about, with what each actually assesses.

KS3Ages 11-14 · Years 7-9

Lower Secondary, Years 7 to 9

No external qualification sits here, which is exactly why it gets neglected. Cambridge offers Lower Secondary Checkpoint tests in March, May and October for schools that use them, and those results are the clearest early signal of whether a child will cope with Extended tier work later. Algebraic fluency and written explanation are the two skills that carry forward.

Year 9 is when Jumeirah 3 schools begin setting IGCSE option blocks, and a child who is borderline in maths or science often gets placed on a safer tier simply because nobody intervened in Year 9. A term of work here changes which papers are available in Year 11.

IGCSEAges 14-16 · Years 10-11

International GCSE, Years 10 and 11

A two-year course per subject, examined at the end, with most students entering eight to ten subjects. Cambridge subjects carry four-digit codes such as 0580 for Mathematics and 0625 for Physics; Pearson Edexcel uses codes such as 4MA1 and 4PH1. Several Cambridge subjects are tiered into Core and Extended, and Pearson maths into Foundation and Higher.

This is the qualification that feeds UAE Ministry of Education equivalency on the British track, where five accredited subjects at no less than grade E or grade 3 are required, with Arabic and Islamic Education excluded from that count. Getting the subject spread right in Year 10 matters more than most families realise.

AS/AAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

AS and A Level, Years 12 and 13

The most common post-16 route in British-curriculum schools on this coast, usually three or four subjects with linear or modular assessment depending on the board. Subject choices here are constrained by IGCSE outcomes: a Core-tier maths grade rarely opens an A Level maths place, which is why tier decisions in Year 10 have consequences two years later.

For MoE equivalency on the British track, one accredited subject at Advanced Level with a grade of no less than E, or two at Advanced Subsidiary Level at the same grade, sits alongside the five IGCSE subjects. Verify the current requirement with the attestation authority before relying on it.

DPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

IB Diploma Programme as the alternative at 16

Six subjects with Theory of Knowledge, an Extended Essay and CAS, scored out of 45. Students moving from IGCSE into the Diploma meet two specific jumps: mathematics, where the Analysis and Approaches route assumes Extended-tier fluency, and the volume of internally assessed work, which has no real IGCSE equivalent.

Several IB World Schools within a short drive of Jumeirah 3 take students from British-curriculum schools at 16, so this transition is common here. Families planning it usually want Extended maths and two sciences at IGCSE rather than the minimum spread.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

Requests from Jumeirah 3 cluster around maths, the three separate sciences and English, with Economics and Business Studies behind them. Each description names the board difference or the mark-scheme trap rather than restating the subject title.

Mathematics

Cambridge 0580 Core and Extended · Pearson 4MA1 Foundation and Higher

Two papers per candidate in both boards, with Cambridge Extended on Papers 2 and 4 and Pearson Higher on 1H and 2H. Marks disappear in rounding, in unshown method and in failing to read 'give your answer in terms of pi'. Tier placement is the single most consequential decision in the subject.

Physics

Cambridge 0625 · Pearson 4PH1

Cambridge assesses practical skills through a separate practical test or the alternative-to-practical paper; Pearson examines practical understanding inside its two written papers. Electricity circuits and moments generate the most requests. Students lose marks writing qualitative answers where the question wants a calculation with units.

Chemistry

Cambridge 0620 · Pearson 4CH1

Mole calculations and organic chemistry are the predictable pressure points, and both boards reward precision in state symbols and balanced equations. Candidates who learn reactions as lists rather than as patterns stall around the middle grades, which is diagnosable from one past paper.

Biology

Cambridge 0610 · Pearson 4BI1

Content volume is high but recall alone caps a grade. The marks sit in command words: describe, explain, suggest and compare each want different structures, and data-response questions need a stated trend plus a figure quoted from the graph. Required practicals should be revised as procedures, not stories.

English Language

Cambridge 0500 and 0510 · Pearson 4EA1

Directed writing and reading response dominate. The common failure is retelling the passage instead of analysing how the writer achieves an effect, and the fix is mechanical: quote short, name the technique, state the effect on the reader. Pearson's assessment includes a non-fiction anthology that has to be known in detail.

English Literature

Cambridge 0475 · Pearson 4ET1

Closed-book or set-text conditions vary by board and route, which changes how quotations must be learned. Essays score on an argument about meaning, not on plot coverage, and the fastest improvement for most students comes from planning three ideas before writing rather than writing to find out what they think.

Economics

Cambridge 0455 · Pearson 4EC1

Diagram accuracy decides the middle marks and evaluation decides the top ones. Students who can draw a correctly labelled market diagram and then weigh two consequences against each other move up a band quickly. Definitions must be exact, because a vague definition loses the mark outright.

Business Studies

Cambridge 0450 · Pearson 4BS1

Case-study material rewards application: the same theory point scores differently depending on whether it is tied to the business in the question. Calculation questions on break-even, cash flow and ratios are reliable marks that students often skip in revision because they feel like maths.

Computer Science

Cambridge 0478 · Pearson 4CP0

Pseudocode and trace tables are examined more precisely than students expect, and binary, hexadecimal and data representation questions are short, frequent and heavily weighted relative to how little time they take to secure.

Arabic as an additional language

Taught alongside the licensed curriculum

A mandatory subject in Dubai private schools regardless of curriculum, and one that frequently arrives new to a child who has moved to the UAE recently. Support has to work inside the school's own scheme of work rather than a parallel syllabus, because the published KHDA guidance restricts additional content.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three delivery formats are worth comparing for an IGCSE student, and the comparison is usually settled by the year group and by how many subjects are in trouble at once. All are delivered over live video on Gulf Standard Time.

One subject, one weekly slot

The standard arrangement for a Year 10 student or a Year 11 student with a single weak subject. Sixty or ninety minutes a week with the same tutor, following the school's scheme of work closely enough that the two do not contradict each other. Progress is measured against past-paper marks rather than against how the sessions feel.

  • Same tutor and same slot each week through the term
  • Board-specific: Cambridge or Pearson materials, never a generic version
  • Short recall check at the start of each session
  • Best started in Year 10 or early Year 11

Two or three subjects, split across the week

Common for Year 11 students entering nine or ten subjects where the sciences are the problem. Different specialists teach different subjects on different evenings, which a single visiting tutor cannot replicate. The risk to manage is total load, so we would normally stage the start dates rather than begin everything in the same week.

  • A separate specialist per subject rather than one generalist
  • Start dates staggered so homework does not collapse
  • A shared view of which subject has the nearest deadline
  • Reviewed after four weeks and cut back if the week is too full

Pre-series intensive

A short, dense block in the weeks before mocks or before the written series, built almost entirely from past papers under timing. The target is stated at the start - a tier decision, a paper to finish inside the time, a topic never secured - and the block ends with a comparison against the paper sat in week one.

  • Two or three sessions a week for a fixed number of weeks
  • Papers marked against the published mark scheme, then reworked
  • A written error log carried from session to session
  • Finishes on a stated date rather than rolling on

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Jumeirah 3

01

What the search means, and what we actually deliver

Taken literally, an IGCSE home tutor in Jumeirah 3 is a qualified person who comes to the house on a weekday evening. That market exists in Dubai, it is large, and the rates for it are published: Dubai providers quoting in 2026 place in-home one-to-one at roughly AED 180 to 500 an hour, with monthly in-home packages advertised at AED 1,599 to 1,799 for four two-hour sessions. If that is specifically what you want, those providers are easy to find and this page will still be useful to you, because the board and tier sections below apply whoever teaches your child.

What IB Gram provides is different and we would rather say so in the first screen than in a footnote. Lessons are one-to-one and online, taught over live video on Gulf Standard Time. Our tutors do not travel to UAE addresses, and home visits in Dubai are not part of the service; the visiting-tutor model is one we run only in India. The trade is deliberate. Removing the drive means the tutor is selected on the only criteria that predict a better grade - the board, the tier, the papers they have taught to examination - rather than on whether they can reach this part of Dubai by 4:30pm.

For an IGCSE student that trade is unusually favourable, because International GCSE teaching is board-specific in a way parents are rarely told. The same subject at the same school down the road may be examined under Cambridge in one cohort and Pearson Edexcel in another, with different paper structures, different practical arrangements and different grading scales. A tutor who knows one and improvises the other wastes the first month of a block discovering it. Matching by board first is cheap to do and expensive to skip.

02

Jumeirah 3 against the communities either side

Families comparing neighbourhoods usually want to know whether the tutoring options genuinely differ a few kilometres away. For the most part they do not. The school gates change, the drive changes, the rate quotes do not, and the board question stays identical. The one real difference the map makes is proximity to the tuition centres clustered inland around Al Quoz, which is a shorter journey from Al Manara or Al Safa than from the beach road.

The table sets out what the afternoon actually looks like from each community, because that is the variable a provider will not discuss with you. A visiting tutor's day is a route, and your session's start time is a function of where you sit on it. Being first on the route means a reliable start and an early finish; being third means a reliable delay. None of that is visible when you book, and it is the most common reason a family that chose in-home in September is looking again in January.

Read the last column as the practical conclusion. In every one of these communities the same two things decide whether tutoring works: a slot that survives the week, and a tutor who teaches the right board. Jumeirah 3 is not a special case, and neither is Umm Suqeim - which is why this page says plainly that the answer travels across the whole coast rather than pretending each community needs a different solution.

What the market charges, by provider model

Three of the six most visible competitor pages in this market publish no price at all, and two of the three that do quote in US dollars, which is not the currency a Dubai family transacts in. So here are the AED bands with their sources attached. These are market figures gathered from provider pages and from the Bestimate tutoring-cost table for Dubai in 2026. They are not IB Gram's price list, and the right way to read them is as a check on whatever quote you are given.

The pattern in the numbers is worth stating directly. Rates rise with three things: the level being taught, the scarcity of the specialism, and the travel involved. An entry-level online tutor advertised from AED 45 an hour and a named examiner-level tutor quoted at AED 650 are both real market positions, and the useful band for a Year 11 IGCSE candidate sits between them. A monthly online package has been advertised at AED 799 for eight sessions, which is one useful reference point when a provider quotes you only a monthly figure with no hourly equivalent.

What the table deliberately does not do is name competitors alongside judgements about their quality. Rates are quoted with their model - agency, marketplace, freelance, centre - because that is the comparison that helps you, and because a published price from a named provider is only fair to cite with its date. If a quote you receive sits well outside these bands in either direction, ask what explains it: an examiner-level specialist at the top end, or a university student at the bottom, are both legitimate answers, and both change what you should expect from the session.

Cambridge or Pearson Edexcel: find out before you book anyone

The first question to ask your child's school is which board each subject is entered under, and the second is which tier. Parents are often surprised that the answer differs between subjects inside the same school, and occasionally between cohorts in the same subject. Until you know, any tutoring is partly guesswork, because the papers are not interchangeable. A Cambridge candidate sitting a separate practical test needs practical technique rehearsed; a Pearson candidate whose practical understanding is examined inside the written papers needs something different from the same hours.

The table compares the two boards for the subjects most often requested from this coast, using the syllabus codes that appear on your child's statement of entry. Those codes are the most useful thing on the document. They let you find the correct specification and the correct past papers on the board's own site, and they let a tutor confirm in one line that they teach the right course. Syllabus-code specificity is almost entirely absent from competing pages in this market, which is odd, because it is the detail that prevents a wasted term.

One practical note on materials. Neither we nor any provider should be sending you syllabus documents, past papers or mark schemes as downloads; those are the boards' copyright. The right approach is to reference them and link to the board's own site, where the current specification and the published past papers live. A provider that supplies a folder of other people's documents is telling you something about its attitude to the rules it operates under.

Core or Extended, Foundation or Higher: who decides and when

  • Ask which tier your child is currently entered for, in writing
  • Tier changes are possible up to the board's entry deadline, not after
  • The mock window is the decision point, not the final term
  • A secure grade on the lower tier beats an unfinished paper on the upper one

Tiering is the decision that quietly sets the ceiling on a result, and it is usually made by the school in Year 10 or early Year 11 on the evidence available at that point. Cambridge splits several subjects into Core and Extended; Pearson splits mathematics into Foundation and Higher. The lower tier is a shorter content list with a lower maximum grade; the upper tier is more content with the full range available. Neither is a judgement about a child's worth, and both are reversible up to the entry deadline, which is the detail families miss.

Where tutoring genuinely changes the picture is the window between a mock result and the final entry decision. If a student is sitting just under the threshold the school uses, a focused block on the specific topics that separate the tiers can move them over it. That requires knowing which topics those are, which is a board-and-syllabus question rather than a general maths question. It also requires starting early enough that the school still has time to change the entry, which is why the mock period is the moment to have the conversation rather than the end of Year 11.

The honest counterpoint: moving a student up a tier they are not ready for produces a worse outcome than a secure result on the lower tier. A candidate who finishes the Extended papers having attempted half the questions will not beat the same candidate on Core. We will give you a view based on marked past-paper evidence rather than optimism, and if the evidence says the lower tier is the better entry, we will say that even though it is the less flattering answer.

Ministry of Education equivalency on the British track

Families who intend to study or work in the UAE eventually meet certificate equivalency, and the British-track rules are published clearly enough to state. Reporting on the Ministry's clarification sets out that students must pass five accredited subjects in GCSE or IGCSE certificates with a grade of no less than E or grade 3, and must submit proof of one accredited subject at Advanced Level with a grade of no less than E, or two accredited subjects at Advanced Subsidiary Level at the same grade. Arabic and Islamic education are not included among the five required subjects.

That five-subject figure matters because a ranking competitor in this market publishes six, and a family planning around the wrong number may drop a subject it needed or carry one it did not. The subject spread is the part worth planning in Year 10 rather than discovering in Year 12. Note also that equivalency rules are administered by the Ministry and the emirate attestation channels, not by any tutoring provider: we can explain the requirement and point you to the official channel, and we cannot process or guarantee any part of it.

For the American track the same reporting gives different requirements - English proficiency through a score of 5 in the IELTS academic test, 61 in the TOEFL iBT test or 450 in the reading and writing section of the SAT, and at least 450 in the SAT Mathematics test. For the IB there is no points threshold in that source, so no IB equivalency figure appears anywhere on this page. Verify whichever track applies to your child directly with the Ministry before making a decision that depends on it.

Who may legally tutor in Dubai, and how a parent checks

Private tuition in the UAE is permitted and regulated rather than informal, and a parent comparing providers is entitled to ask about it. The private tuition work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023 and is issued through the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation. It is granted free of charge for two years, and eligible applicants include teachers registered in government or private schools, employees in the government and private sectors, unemployed individuals, university students and school students aged 15 to 18. Anyone offering private tutoring without a permit is subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws.

Two further points are worth knowing. First, no fine schedule is published, so any page quoting you a specific penalty amount is quoting something unverified. Second, a tutoring operation with premises and staff in Dubai is a different legal animal from an individual tutor and needs an educational services permit from the Knowledge and Human Development Authority for a training institute. That is a specific permit issued to specific premises, and it is the thing providers are describing when they call themselves approved by the authority. IB Gram does not hold it, does not claim it, and has no office in the UAE.

In Abu Dhabi a further rule applies that Dubai parents should still know about, because families move between emirates: press reporting on the Department of Education and Knowledge's professional-ethics rules describes school staff being barred from paid private tutoring of students enrolled at their own school, with the permit's code of conduct pointing the same way. The practical reading for any family is simple - never arrange for your child's own class teacher to tutor them privately, however convenient it looks.

Getting started, including what happens if nobody is free

The process is deliberately short. Tell us the subject, the board if you know it, the tier if you know that, the year group and the evenings that suit a Jumeirah 3 schedule. We match a tutor who teaches that specification, and the first lesson is a free trial with that tutor, taught on real syllabus content so you can judge the teaching rather than the sales pitch. No schedule is agreed until afterwards, and if the match is wrong we change the tutor rather than asking you to give it another fortnight.

Availability is where most providers go quiet, so here is the honest position. Mainstream IGCSE subjects can usually be covered within a few working days. A narrow combination, or a request in the fortnight before mocks or the weeks before a written series, can take longer. When the right specialist has no slot we say so and offer the alternatives: a different evening with the same tutor, a specialist outside the UAE teaching the same board on Gulf Standard Time, or a later start with the work resequenced around the deadline that matters. Putting a generalist in front of a Year 11 candidate to fill a gap serves nobody.

A last word on what to send. The single most useful document is your child's statement of entry or option sheet, because it carries the syllabus codes. The second most useful is the most recent marked assessment, ideally the paper itself rather than the grade. With those two things a tutor can plan the first three sessions before the first one starts, which is otherwise a fortnight of discovery that you paid for.

Where we tutor

Nearby areas we cover around Jumeirah 3

The comparison that matters on this coast is not distance but what the afternoon looks like from each community. Below, Jumeirah 3 is set against the places families most often ask us about, with the practical difference in each case.

Jumeirah 3

Villas between Al Wasl Road and the beach, with British-curriculum gates inside a short drive in three directions. Afternoon pick-up here clears late, so the realistic difference between a visiting tutor and an online slot is thirty to sixty minutes of waiting.

Umm Suqeim

The same coastal strip a little further south, with its own school cluster and the same traffic profile. Families here get the same provider list and the same rate quotes as Jumeirah 3, which is why the comparison on this page applies unchanged.

Jumeirah 2

Adjacent and effectively identical in school access. The distinguishing feature is the number of households running two separate drop-offs, which makes a fixed evening slot materially more reliable than an afternoon appointment.

Jumeirah 1

Towards City Walk and La Mer. Slightly better access to Al Satwa and the centre, slightly worse exposure to Al Wasl Road at peak. The tutoring decision ends in the same place; only the drive a visiting tutor would face differs.

Al Safa

Inland of the beach road and tied to the same gates. Al Safa families often fit tutoring around after-school clubs and sports fixtures, so a slot that can move within the week without renegotiating a route is worth more here than a fixed appointment.

Al Manara and Al Quoz 1

Further inland, with easier access to Sheikh Zayed Road and to the tuition centres clustered around Al Quoz. The centre option is genuinely closer from here, which is the one real difference the geography makes to the comparison.

Al Wasl

The corridor joining Jumeirah to Al Safa. Short distances, long journey times between 4pm and 6pm, and a steady supply of families who tried an in-home arrangement for one term and switched to evenings.

Pearl Jumeira

A newer coastal address with little school provision inside the community. Every family commutes out for school, so the afternoon is already spent by the time a tutor could arrive, and the comparison resolves in favour of an evening session.

Schools a short drive inland

Families comparing Jumeirah 3 with Al Safa or Al Manara usually have children at one of these, and the IGCSE board varies between them, which is why the first question we ask is which board rather than which school.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Send the subject, board and tier

A short message with the subject, the board if you know it, the tier if that is decided, the year group and the evenings that work. If you have the statement of entry or the option sheet, the syllabus codes on it answer most of our questions before we ask them.

  2. 02

We match on specification, not location

Tutors are matched to the exact syllabus - Cambridge 0580 Extended rather than maths in general - because the papers are not interchangeable. Distance from Jumeirah 3 plays no part in the match, which is what widens the pool of genuine board specialists.

  3. 03

Free trial lesson with the matched tutor

One lesson, taught on real syllabus content, with no schedule agreed beforehand. You and your child judge the explanation and the pace, then decide. If it is not right, we change the tutor; the risk of a poor match sits with us rather than with your term.

  4. 04

A block with a target written down

Sessions are booked as a block aimed at something nameable: a tier decision, a paper to finish in the time, a topic never secured. A target makes the block reviewable at the end, which an open-ended weekly arrangement never is.

  5. 05

    Audit it after four weeks

Four weeks in, compare the marked work against the diagnostic paper from week one. If the gap has not moved, the plan changes or the tutor does. We would rather have that conversation in November than in April, and so would you.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

Board-first matching

Cambridge and Pearson Edexcel examine the same subject differently, from paper structure to how practical work is assessed. Matching on the specification rather than the subject name removes the first month of mutual discovery that a cross-board tutor otherwise needs.

The same answer across the coast

Jumeirah 3, Umm Suqeim, Al Safa and Jumeirah 1 share gates, traffic and rate quotes, so a provider claiming a bespoke neighbourhood solution is describing marketing rather than a difference. What changes between these communities is the drive, and an online slot removes it.

Rates with a source and a date

Every AED figure on this page is attributed to a published provider page or a dated Dubai cost table, quoted as a market band. We do not present market rates as our own prices, and we do not publish an invented price list to look competitive.

Tier advice from marked evidence

Whether a student should sit Extended or Core is answered from past papers marked against the published scheme, not from encouragement. Sometimes the useful answer is the less flattering one, and a provider that never gives it is not giving you information.

Honest about the permit position

We explain the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation permit regime and the separate training-institute permit for premises, and we state plainly that IB Gram holds no regulator approval and has no UAE office. Providers implying otherwise are making a claim that is checkable.

Boards' materials referenced, not redistributed

Specifications, past papers and mark schemes belong to Cambridge and Pearson and live on their sites. We point you to them and teach from them rather than handing out a folder of other people's documents, which is both a copyright question and a sign of how a provider works.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Jumeirah 3: your questions answered

Would the answer be different if we lived in Umm Suqeim rather than Jumeirah 3?+

Hardly at all, and that is the useful finding. These two communities share the same coastal road network, draw on overlapping school gates, and get quoted the same rates by the same providers. The afternoon traffic profile is near identical, so a visiting tutor faces the same unpredictable drive from either address. What decides whether tutoring works in both places is the same pair of factors: a slot that survives a busy week, and a tutor matched to the correct examination board and tier. Only one real difference exists on this coast, which is that tuition centres inland around Al Quoz are a shorter trip from Al Manara and Al Safa.

How do I find out which International GCSE board my child's school uses?+

Ask the school directly, subject by subject, and ask for it in writing. The definitive document is your child's statement of entry, which lists the syllabus code for every entry: four digits such as 0580 or 0625 for Cambridge, and codes such as 4MA1 or 4PH1 for Pearson Edexcel. Those codes let you find the correct specification and past papers on the board's own website, and they let a tutor confirm in one line that they teach the right course. Boards can differ between subjects within one school, so a single answer for the whole timetable is usually incomplete.

What actually differs between Cambridge and Pearson Edexcel in the same subject?+

Paper structure, practical assessment and tier naming, mostly. Cambridge tiers several subjects into Core and Extended and assesses science practical skills through a separate practical test or an alternative-to-practical paper. Pearson Edexcel examines practical understanding inside its written papers and splits mathematics into Foundation and Higher. Question stems, diagram conventions and mark-scheme wording differ enough that revising with the wrong board's past papers is actively unhelpful. The content overlap is large, which is why a cross-board tutor sounds convincing in a first lesson and then costs a student marks in a real paper.

Should my child be entered for the Core tier or the Extended tier?+

The school decides, usually in Year 10 or early Year 11, from the evidence it has. The lower tier covers less content and caps the maximum grade; the upper tier covers more and leaves the full range available. The decision can be changed up to the board's entry deadline, which is why the mock period is the moment to raise it. A focused block on the topics that separate the tiers can move a borderline student up. A student who would not finish the upper-tier papers is better served by a secure result on the lower tier.

What should an IGCSE tutor cost for a family on the Jumeirah coast?+

Market figures published by Dubai providers in 2026 put a qualified subject tutor online at roughly AED 150 to 300 an hour, a visiting tutor at the home at roughly AED 180 to 500 once travel is absorbed, and specialist examination-year tutors at AED 200 to 450 or more. Budget online options advertise from AED 45 to 65, and one premium named tutor is quoted at AED 650. Those are the market's numbers with their sources, not our price list. If a quote sits outside those bands, ask what explains it before you accept or dismiss it.

Why does a tutor who travels to the villa charge more per hour?+

Because the hour you book is not the only hour the tutor spends. A journey across this part of Dubai in the afternoon peak can take forty to ninety minutes each way, and that time has to be paid for somewhere. In the published Dubai bands it shows up as a higher hourly rate for in-home work than for the same tutor teaching online. The other place it shows up is the start time: a session scheduled at 4:30pm on a route with three stops often begins later than booked. Removing the journey removes both costs at once.

How many IGCSE subjects does the UAE Ministry of Education count for British-track equivalency?+

Five. Reporting on the Ministry's clarification states that students must pass five accredited subjects in GCSE or IGCSE certificates with a grade of no less than E or grade 3, alongside one accredited subject at Advanced Level at no less than grade E or two at Advanced Subsidiary Level at the same grade. One ranking competitor in this market publishes six, which is the sort of error that leads a family to carry a subject it did not need. Equivalency is administered by the Ministry and the emirate attestation channels, so verify the current rule with them before planning around it.

Do Arabic and Islamic Education count towards those five subjects?+

No. The reporting on the Ministry's requirements is explicit that Arabic and Islamic education are not included among the five required subjects for the GCSE and IGCSE count. They remain mandatory at school in Dubai under the published guidance from the Knowledge and Human Development Authority, which requires them regardless of the licensed international curriculum, so a child takes them and they occupy timetable periods. They simply do not count towards the equivalency total. That distinction is worth confirming with your school when option blocks are set, because it affects how many other accredited subjects your child needs to carry.

Does booking an IGCSE home tutor in Jumeirah 3 mean a tutor arrives at our villa?+

Not through IB Gram. We target the phrase because it is what parents in Dubai search, and we would rather answer it in the first screen than bury the answer. Our tutors do not travel to UAE addresses, and home visits in Dubai are not a service we offer; the visiting model is one we run only in India. Lessons are one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time. The benefit is a tutor matched to the exact syllabus code your child sits, and an evening start that does not depend on the beach road clearing in time.

Can my child sit different subjects with different examination boards?+

Yes, and many Dubai schools do exactly that, entering maths with one board and the sciences with another. It is decided by the school rather than the family. The practical consequence for tutoring is that each subject needs its own board-specific preparation, including the right past papers, and that revision resources have to be checked individually rather than bought as a set. When you ask us for help in two subjects, we confirm the board for each separately, because assuming one answer covers the whole timetable is how the wrong papers end up in a revision folder.

When are International GCSE examinations actually held, and which series will my child sit?+

Cambridge runs International GCSE, O Level and International A Level examinations in a June series and a November series, with Checkpoint tests in March, May and October. Cambridge also operates an extra February sitting, but it is offered to India only and a candidate in Jumeirah 3 cannot enter it; June and November are the two series available here, each on one of six zone timetables, with entry deadlines months before the papers. Pearson Edexcel International GCSE examinations are available in May or June and in November each year. Which series your child sits is set by the school, so confirm it with them and use the board's live official timetable rather than a restated date.

Is Year 10 or Year 11 the better time to start tutoring?+

Year 10, if the choice is genuinely open. The content built in Year 10 is what Year 11 papers assume, and the tier decision is made on Year 10 and early Year 11 evidence, so support in that window influences which papers are available at the end. Starting in Year 11 is still worthwhile and is when most families actually begin, but the work becomes triage: choosing the components where effort converts into marks and accepting that some topics will not be rebuilt. The worst time to start is after the final entry deadline has fixed a tier nobody intended.

How are science practicals handled if lessons are taught online?+

Practical work itself happens at school, where the equipment and the supervision are. What a tutor can do online is prepare the examined element, and that differs by board: Cambridge candidates face either a practical test or the alternative-to-practical paper, which rewards rehearsed technique, correct tabulation, graph plotting and uncertainty handling. Pearson Edexcel candidates meet practical understanding inside the written papers, which rewards knowing method and sources of error. Both are taught well through worked examples, past-paper practical questions and marking against the published scheme. Neither requires a tutor standing beside a bench.

What should I send so the first lesson is not spent on discovery?+

Two documents do most of the work. The statement of entry or option sheet, because it carries the syllabus codes and the tier, and the most recent marked assessment, ideally the script itself rather than the reported grade. With those, a tutor can plan the first three sessions before the first one begins. Add the school's next internal deadline and the mock window if you have them. Families who send nothing usually pay for a fortnight of the tutor working out what the school has already written down, which is the easiest waste to avoid.

One comparison left to make

You have the rate bands with their sources, the board differences with their syllabus codes, the tier decision and who makes it, the equivalency rule with the five-subject figure, and the permit position for every kind of tutor. The last comparison is the one only your child can make: does this tutor explain things in a way that lands. Send us the subject, the board, the tier and the evenings that work for a Jumeirah 3 week, and we will match a specialist and set up a free trial lesson taught on real syllabus content. Lessons run one-to-one online on Gulf Standard Time, and nothing is booked until after that first session.
