IGCSE Maths Tutor in Jumeirah 3

An IGCSE maths tutor in Jumeirah 3 is worth hiring only if they teach the syllabus your child is actually entered for. Cambridge 0580, Cambridge International Mathematics 0607 and Pearson Edexcel 4MA1 are three different courses with different papers, different calculator rules and different grade ceilings. This page sets out all three, the mark-scheme traps that cost Dubai students marks they had earned, and how past papers should be used. Lessons run one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time.

  • Three syllabus codes compared on papers, tiers and grade ceilings
  • Mark-scheme traps named by question type, not in general terms
  • Past-paper method with a marking routine the student can run alone
  • Free first lesson, no card details, no minimum term

IB & IGCSE in Jumeirah 3

The code on the entry form decides what the tutoring has to be

Most wasted IGCSE mathematics tuition in Dubai is wasted on the right subject and the wrong syllabus. Three codes are in common use across the schools near Jumeirah 3. Cambridge IGCSE Mathematics 0580 is the traditional algebraic course, tiered into Core and Extended. Cambridge IGCSE International Mathematics 0607 is a different syllabus with a graphic display calculator expectation and a separate investigation paper. Pearson Edexcel International GCSE Mathematics 4MA1 is a third course, tiered into Foundation and Higher, with its own paper structure.

Those three are not interchangeable. A student entered for 0607 who spends a term on 0580 past papers will cover a good deal of overlapping content with the wrong technique and no practice at the investigation paper they will actually sit. A 4MA1 candidate drilled on Cambridge mark schemes will meet a different style of question and a different balance of marks. The first question any competent tutor asks is which code is on the entry confirmation, and the answer comes from the school's exams officer rather than from the textbook on the shelf.

The second decision with consequences is the tier. Cambridge 0580 Core is graded C to G and Extended is graded A* to E, so a Core entry cannot reach the top grades however well the papers are answered. Pearson 4MA1 tiers the same way in effect, with Foundation capping the available grade and Higher opening the top of the scale. The tier is set at entry, which falls a term or more before the papers, so a family discovering it in the final weeks has very few options left.

Once the code and tier are settled, mathematics tuition becomes unusually tractable, because the marks are predictable. Dubai students lose them in the same places year after year: method not shown where the scheme awards it, premature rounding, units dropped, a correct answer to a question that was asking something else, and whole questions left blank because the time ran out. None of those is a knowledge problem, and all of them are teachable inside a term. The implication for a parent is encouraging: a marked script usually shows that three or four habits, not a specification-wide weakness, account for most of the missing grade, and habits are cheaper to change than knowledge.

Everything on this page is delivered one-to-one online over live video, timed to Gulf Standard Time around the Jumeirah 3 school run. IB Gram does not send tutors to homes anywhere in the UAE; home visiting is a service we run only in India. For a subject this code-specific that matters practically rather than philosophically: the available pool stops being whoever teaches maths within a twenty-minute drive and becomes whoever teaches that exact syllabus at the hour you want.

0580Ages 14-16 · Years 10 and 11

Cambridge IGCSE Mathematics

The most widely entered mathematics syllabus in the emirate, tiered into Core and Extended. Content runs across number, algebra and graphs, coordinate geometry, geometry, mensuration, trigonometry, transformations and vectors, probability and statistics. From the 2025 series Cambridge restructured the papers so that candidates sit both a non-calculator and a calculator component; the exact durations and mark totals for your child's series are published on Cambridge's own syllabus page and held by the school's exams officer.

Cambridge allocates every examination centre to one of six administrative zones and states that it is essential to use the correct version of the timetable for the zone, adding that it cannot accept responsibility for candidates who miss an examination after using the wrong one. Ask which zone your Dubai centre sits in and get that timetable in writing rather than relying on a version found through a general search.

0607Ages 14-16 · Years 10 and 11

Cambridge IGCSE International Mathematics

A separate syllabus, not a variant of 0580. It assumes a graphic display calculator, treats modelling and the use of technology as part of the subject, and adds an investigation paper in which candidates explore a problem rather than answer short questions. Candidates sit a non-calculator component, a calculator component and the investigation, at Core or Extended.

Several IB continuum schools within reach of Jumeirah 3 enter 0607 because it prepares students for the technology expectations of IB Mathematics, particularly Applications and Interpretation. If your child is at an IB school and taking an IGCSE in Year 11, 0607 is more likely than 0580, and the two require different preparation.

4MA1Ages 14-16 · Years 10 and 11

Pearson Edexcel International GCSE Mathematics A

Two written papers rather than Cambridge's structure, with a calculator permitted and tiering into Foundation and Higher. The style of question is recognisably different: longer multi-step problems and a different distribution of marks across topics. Pearson publishes the specification, sample assessment materials and timetables on its own support pages.

Pearson's November 2026 International GCSE timetable ran from late October to 19 November 2026, with results for the previous November series reaching students on 22 January 2026. June 2026 results went to centres on 19 August and to students on 20 August 2026. Pearson also publishes provisional timetables ahead of each series, so plan against the live official version.

NEXTAges 16-19 · Years 12 and 13

What follows at 16

IGCSE mathematics grades decide the post-16 route. A Level Mathematics and Further Mathematics have published grade conditions, and IB Diploma schools use IGCSE performance to decide whether Analysis and Approaches at Higher Level is realistic. The final term of Year 11 therefore has consequences well beyond the certificate.

Families in Jumeirah 3 commonly hold both routes open until results, and mathematics is usually the deciding subject. A student who enjoyed the 0607 investigation paper often takes to Applications and Interpretation; one who was strong on 0580 Extended algebra more often suits Analysis and Approaches or A Level.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

IGCSE mathematics divides into topic areas that behave differently under examination conditions. These are the ones Dubai students most often lose marks in, with the specific trap in each.

Number, ratio and percentages

Core and Extended, all three codes

Reverse percentages, compound interest and ratio-sharing with an unequal starting point. The trap is premature rounding: a figure rounded in step two produces a final answer outside the accepted range and loses the accuracy mark even though the method was right.

Algebraic manipulation

Extended and Higher

Rearranging formulae, algebraic fractions, simultaneous equations with one quadratic. Marks are lost for abandoning the working once the answer looks familiar. The scheme awards method, so an unsupported correct answer can score less than a supported wrong one.

Graphs and functions

Core and Extended

Sketching, reading values from a curve, gradients of tangents, and in 0607 using the graphic display calculator to find intersections. Students frequently give a coordinate when the question asked for a value, or omit the units that the mark scheme requires.

Coordinate geometry

Extended and Higher

Gradients, midpoints, perpendicular lines and equations of lines through given points. The trap is the sign error in a negative reciprocal, which propagates through an otherwise correct answer and loses the final mark. Checking by substitution takes ten seconds and is rarely taught.

Mensuration

Core and Extended

Surface area and volume of composite solids, arcs, sectors and similar shapes. Marks go on unit conversion between centimetres and metres mid-question, and on using a diameter where the formula wants a radius. Both are habits rather than gaps.

Trigonometry

Extended and Higher

Right-angled triangles, then the sine and cosine rules, bearings and three-dimensional problems. Bearings questions lose marks for measuring from the wrong reference direction; three-dimensional questions lose marks because no diagram was drawn before the calculation began.

Transformations and vectors

Extended and Higher

Describing a transformation fully is a mark scheme requirement: name, centre, scale factor, direction, as applicable. Partial descriptions are the single most common loss here. Vector work rewards clear notation, which students treat as presentation rather than as marks.

Probability

Core and Extended

Tree diagrams, conditional probability and combined events. The usual error is multiplying along the wrong branch, or presenting a probability greater than one without noticing. A sanity check against zero and one catches most of it.

Statistics

Core and Extended

Cumulative frequency, box plots, histograms with unequal class widths, and averages from grouped data. Histograms with unequal widths are the reliable discriminator: frequency density is required and students plot frequency instead.

Investigation, 0607 only

Core and Extended, Cambridge 0607

An extended exploration of a problem rather than a set of questions, which cannot be revised by topic. It has to be practised as a format: generating cases, spotting a pattern, generalising, justifying and communicating the result in writing. Students sitting it unseen lose marks they would never lose on a standard paper.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three formats cover almost every IGCSE mathematics request from this part of the coast, all delivered online over live video. The right one depends on how much of the specification is still open.

Weekly one-to-one on the syllabus

One hour a week across Year 10 and Year 11, following the specification for the actual code rather than the school's textbook order, with past-paper questions used from the first term rather than saved for the end. This is the format that makes a late crash block unnecessary, and across two years it costs considerably less than one.

  • Specification coverage tracked by topic, not by chapter
  • Past-paper questions introduced in Year 10
  • Marking against the board's own scheme every week
  • Tier decision reviewed before entries close

Mark-scheme and technique clinics

Short blocks on how marks are awarded rather than on content: showing method, rounding discipline, units, describing transformations fully, reading command words. For a student whose topic knowledge is sound and whose marks are not, this is usually the whole of the useful work.

  • Each session built on the student's own marked script
  • Losses categorised by type, not by topic
  • A written checklist the student applies in the next paper
  • Fixed session count, so the total is known up front

Investigation practice for 0607 candidates

A format nobody prepares for, practised deliberately: generating cases, finding a pattern, generalising it, justifying the generalisation and writing the result up clearly. Candidates sitting the investigation paper for the first time in the examination hall lose marks that have nothing to do with their mathematics.

  • Several timed investigations sat and then marked together
  • Written communication treated as part of the mark
  • Graphic display calculator routines built in
  • Only relevant to Cambridge 0607 entries

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Jumeirah 3

01

Three syllabuses, side by side

Parents are rarely shown the difference between the mathematics codes their children are entered for, and the schools do not always explain it, because inside a school everyone already knows which one they run. For a family hiring a tutor the difference is the whole decision. The table below compares the three codes in use around Jumeirah 3 on the points that change what a tutor should do.

The clearest divergence is technology. Cambridge 0580 restructured its papers from the 2025 series so that candidates sit both a non-calculator and a calculator component, which puts arithmetic and algebraic fluency back at the centre of preparation. Cambridge 0607 assumes a graphic display calculator and expects students to use it as a tool for exploration, including in an investigation paper. Pearson 4MA1 permits a calculator across its written papers and leans on longer multi-step problems.

The second divergence is the grade ceiling. Cambridge 0580 Core is graded C to G and Extended A* to E; Pearson 4MA1 tiers into Foundation and Higher with the same practical effect. A student who is capable of a high grade but entered at the lower tier cannot reach it, and that is a conversation with the school about entries rather than something tutoring can resolve.

The third is the existence of an investigation. Only 0607 carries one, and it behaves like no other component in any of these courses. A 0607 candidate who has done four timed investigations will approach that paper calmly; one who has done none will meet an unfamiliar task under time pressure and lose marks for reasons unrelated to ability. Exact paper durations and mark totals are published on each board's own syllabus page and held by your exams officer, and should be read there rather than reproduced here, because they change between series.

The mark-scheme traps that cost marks a student had earned

  • Show method: the scheme pays for it, and unsupported answers forfeit it
  • Round once, at the end, to the accuracy the question specifies
  • Describe transformations completely; partial descriptions score partially
  • Use frequency density on histograms with unequal class widths
  • Triage by mark allocation rather than by question order

A large share of lost IGCSE mathematics marks in Dubai are lost by students who knew the mathematics. That is an uncomfortable claim to make without specifics, so here are the specifics. Method marks are awarded for visible working, and an unsupported correct answer in a multi-step question can score less than a fully worked wrong one. Students who have been praised for doing things in their heads lose marks for exactly that habit, and they lose them in every paper.

Rounding is the second recurring loss. Mark schemes accept an answer within a stated tolerance, and a value rounded at an intermediate step frequently falls outside it. The rule to teach is mechanical: carry full accuracy through the calculation and round once, at the end, to the degree of accuracy the question asked for. Students who round early are usually doing it to make the numbers look tidy, which is a presentation instinct working against them.

Then there are the question-type traps, each with its own fix. Describing a transformation requires every element the scheme lists, and a partial description scores partially. Histograms with unequal class widths require frequency density, not frequency. Bearings must be measured from north and given as three figures. Units must match what the question asked for, not what the working produced. None of these is difficult; all of them are invisible to a student who has never read a mark scheme.

The fourth category is time. Papers are lost at the end rather than at the beginning, and a student who spends twelve minutes on a four-mark question has made a decision with consequences. Triage is teachable: read the mark allocation, attempt the questions that pay, leave the one that is not moving and come back. A student who has practised that in three timed papers does it automatically in the fourth.

03

Topic by topic: the trap and the fix

Generic advice about practising more does not help a student who is already practising. What helps is knowing which specific error each topic tends to produce, because the correction is usually a single habit rather than a re-teach. The table below pairs the topics Dubai students most often lose marks in with the error that produces the loss and the fix that removes it.

Read it as a diagnostic rather than a syllabus. The right way to use it is with a marked script in front of you: find the questions where marks were lost, match them against the rows, and you will usually find that three or four habits account for most of the gap. That is a much cheaper problem to solve than a specification-wide weakness, and it is the normal finding rather than the exceptional one.

The fixes are deliberately small because small fixes stick. Writing units in the answer line before calculating, sketching a diagram before starting a three-dimensional trigonometry question, or checking a probability against zero and one are each a few seconds of discipline. Across a two-hour paper they recover marks that no amount of additional content revision would have found.

One caution about the table: it describes tendencies, not your child. The reason a diagnostic session starts from a marked script rather than from a list is that the actual pattern is always more specific than the general one, and occasionally it is something nobody would have predicted.

Past papers, used properly

  • Sit the paper cold, alone, under real timing
  • Mark against the board's scheme and record marks, not ticks
  • Categorise every loss: content, method, accuracy, misreading or time
  • Rework only the two largest categories, then re-sit those questions cold

Almost every Dubai family already knows that past papers matter, and almost nobody uses them in a way that produces marks. The common pattern is to work through questions with help, get them right, and conclude that the topic is secure. That produces confidence and no evidence. A past paper only tells you something if it is sat alone, under the real timing, and then marked against the board's own scheme rather than against a feeling.

The routine worth teaching a student is four steps. Sit the paper cold, in one sitting, with a clock. Mark it yourself against the scheme, writing the mark gained next to each question rather than a tick. Categorise every lost mark as content, method, accuracy, misreading or time. Then rework only the questions in the two largest categories. A student who runs that cycle three times across a term improves faster than one who completes twice as many papers with help.

We do not supply past papers, mark schemes, syllabus documents or grade-boundary tables. Those belong to Cambridge and Pearson, and reproducing or distributing them is copyright infringement; for unreleased material it is considerably worse. The boards publish a great deal on their own sites and your school's exams officer has access to more, both of which are the correct and free route.

There is a timing point specific to Dubai. The winter break is the single best uninterrupted window for timed papers in the school year, and two or three sat properly across it are worth more than five squeezed into a busy term. Families on this coast who plan for that rather than improvising it usually arrive at the mock window with real data instead of a general impression.

05

Core or Extended, Foundation or Higher: the entry decision

  • Ask which tier your child is entered for, and on what evidence
  • Ask the school's internal cut-off date for changing it
  • Cambridge Core is graded C to G; Extended is graded A* to E
  • If the tier cannot change, agree a target that the entry actually permits

The tier is the most consequential decision in an IGCSE mathematics course and the one families are least often consulted about. Cambridge 0580 Core is graded C to G; Extended is graded A* to E. Pearson 4MA1 separates Foundation from Higher with the same practical effect. A student at the lower tier cannot reach the top grades, whatever happens in the examination hall.

Schools make the decision for sound reasons: a student placed on a paper far beyond their current attainment can do badly on every question rather than well on the accessible ones, and the lower tier protects a usable grade. The problem arises when a student improves substantially in Year 11 and the entry is never revisited, or when a family assumes the ceiling does not exist because nobody mentioned it.

The practical steps are simple and cost nothing. Ask which tier your child is entered for. Ask what evidence that decision rests on and when it was taken. Ask the latest date at which it could be changed, which is set by the school's internal cut-off rather than by the board's published deadline. If the answers suggest the tier was set in Year 10 and never reviewed, that is worth a conversation now rather than after the papers.

Where a tier change is not available, the honest conversation is about what grade is actually in reach and what it is worth. A grade that secures a post-16 route is valuable; a grade that cannot change any subsequent decision is not worth three hours a week of a sixteen-year-old's life. That judgement belongs to the family, but it should be made with the ceiling visible rather than discovered afterwards.

06

What a code-specific maths tutor costs in Dubai

The cheapest tutor in this market is often the most expensive purchase, because a generalist at AED 50 an hour teaching the wrong syllabus for a term produces nothing a parent can measure. The figure worth comparing is not the hourly rate but the rate multiplied by the chance that the work matches the paper, and that calculation changes the answer for most families.

The published bands in Dubai are these. Tutopiya advertises from AED 33 to 52 an hour and EdFlik from AED 45 to 65 at the budget online end. Unitors publishes online IGCSE rates from AED 150. TutorChase publishes AED 270. Bestimate's 2026 Dubai rate table puts a qualified subject specialist at AED 200 to 450 and upwards, in-home one-to-one at AED 180 to 350, with independent home tutors quoted to AED 500, and BartyED publishes AED 650 at the premium end. Monthly packages of AED 799 for eight online sessions and AED 1,599 to 1,799 for four two-hour in-home visits circulate widely. All of those are each provider's own published figures rather than an IB Gram price list.

Within those bands, what you are buying at the AED 150 to 300 level for mathematics specifically is somebody who knows the code. A teacher who can say without checking that 0607 carries an investigation paper, that 0580 now includes a non-calculator component, or that 4MA1 question styles differ from Cambridge's, is worth the middle of the market. A teacher who treats all three as interchangeable is not worth the bottom of it.

The context figure for a household budget: KHDA confirmed in May 2026 that there would be no increase in private school fees in Dubai for the 2026-27 academic year, under the emirate's second economic incentives package. A flat fee year is the right moment to pay for a short, code-specific block with a specialist rather than a long, cheap one with a generalist.

Timing a session around a Jumeirah 3 school day

  • First dependable weekday slot from Jumeirah 3: around 5pm Gulf Standard Time
  • Sit timed papers independently; use the session to mark and rework
  • Two shorter sessions a week in the fortnight before papers
  • Ramadan: early afternoon or post-Iftar, agreed a fortnight ahead

Schools along this coast finish between roughly 2.30pm and 3.30pm and the run home adds twenty to fifty minutes depending on direction and on how Jumeirah Beach Road is behaving. From Jumeirah 3 that makes around 5pm the first weekday start that survives a whole term, with 5pm to 6pm the most reliable window and 7pm to 8pm widely available for households where both parents commute.

For mathematics specifically, the length of the session matters as much as the hour. A full timed paper cannot be sat inside a one-hour slot, so the practical arrangement is that papers are sat independently and the session is used to mark, categorise and rework. That split is what makes a weekly hour sufficient; without it, a weekly hour becomes a slow walk through content.

Two shorter sessions a week work better than one long one in the final fortnight before papers, and online scheduling makes that trivial to arrange. A travelling tutor cannot double the number of visits without doubling the travel, which is the practical reason in-home arrangements tend to be weekly regardless of what the student needs that week.

Ramadan moves the usable window to the early afternoon after a shortened school day or to after Iftar, and both work normally over live video. Agreeing the month's slot in advance, with the same tutor and weekday, keeps a technique block intact rather than losing four sessions to improvisation. Families who wait until the first week of the month to raise it usually find the convenient hours have gone.

08

Starting with the right three facts

  • Bring the entry confirmation: board, code, tier, components
  • Bring the most recent marked script, not the grade
  • Count real teaching weeks, minus breaks and the Ramadan shift
  • Ask the trial tutor to name the losses in mark-scheme terms

Three pieces of paper turn a vague search for an IGCSE maths tutor in Jumeirah 3 into a brief that any good subject teacher can act on immediately. The entry confirmation, showing board, syllabus code, tier and components. The most recent marked script, with the marks written on it. And a count of the teaching weeks genuinely left once school breaks are removed. Assembling those costs an evening and saves at least one paid session of diagnosis.

Use the free trial lesson to test a single thing: whether the tutor can take the marked script and name where the marks went in the language of that board's scheme. A tutor who says the student needs to build confidence has told you nothing. A tutor who says four marks went on premature rounding, three on incomplete transformation descriptions and five on time has given you a plan.

Expect candour about what is reachable. With two terms left, a tier conversation and full specification coverage are both on the table. With six weeks left, the realistic targets are technique, triage and the three topics that appear on every paper. We would rather say which situation a family is in than sell content revision to someone who needs mark-scheme discipline.

If no specialist in the exact code is free at your preferred hour, we will say so and offer alternatives rather than substituting a general mathematics tutor. For a subject where the code determines the mark scheme, that distinction is the whole value of the booking, and filling a slot with the nearest available teacher is precisely the failure this page exists to prevent.

Areas served on the same basis as Jumeirah 3

Jumeirah 3 lies west of Jumeirah 2 along the beach road, with Al Safa and Al Manara inland and Umm Suqeim further along the coast. Because every lesson is delivered over live video, each of these areas is served on identical terms; only the preferred hour changes.

Jumeirah 2

The next stretch east, with shorter runs home and therefore a slightly earlier first session. Mostly Cambridge entries, with some 0607 from the IB schools nearby.

Jumeirah 1

Dense school provision and the earliest realistic weekday slot in the corridor. A mix of Cambridge and Pearson entries from the same streets.

Al Safa

Feeds several British-curriculum schools, which makes it the strongest source of 0580 Extended and 4MA1 Higher enquiries in this cluster.

Umm Suqeim

Heavier IB presence, so more 0607 enquiries and more questions about how an IGCSE grade affects a Diploma subject choice.

Al Manara

Quieter and inland, where a 7pm session is often preferred because both parents commute back from Business Bay or DIFC.

Al Wasl

Along Al Wasl Road directly inland. Households here frequently have a Year 11 candidate and a younger sibling and want consecutive evening slots.

Al Quoz

Mixed residential and commercial, with longer school runs that push the first dependable weekday session to around 5.15pm in term time.

Al Badaa

Between Jumeirah and Satwa, with a mix of school types and a correspondingly mixed set of syllabus codes in the same neighbourhood.

We ask for the school's entry confirmation first, because a term of work against the wrong specification is the most common waste in this subject.

  2. 02

    Diagnose from a marked script

We read the most recent marked paper question by question and categorise every lost mark as content, method, accuracy, misreading or time. In mathematics the last four categories usually account for more of the gap than the first, which changes what the sessions should spend time on.

  3. 03

Agree a habit list, not a topic list

The output of the diagnosis is a short written checklist the student applies in the next paper: round once at the end, show method, convert units first, describe transformations fully. Habits are cheaper to change than knowledge and they transfer across every topic on the paper.

  4. 04

Run papers independently, mark them together

Timed papers are sat alone between sessions, because a paper completed with help measures nothing. The session is used to mark against the board's scheme, categorise the losses and rework the two largest categories. This is what makes one weekly hour sufficient.

  5. 05

Review against marks and stop when it is done

Progress is a number on a timed paper, compared with the number from the previous one. If it is not moving across two consecutive papers we change the plan. When the target grade is secure, we say so rather than extending the booking into the final fortnight.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

We ask for the syllabus code first

Three different mathematics codes are entered by schools near Jumeirah 3, and they need different preparation. Starting without the entry confirmation is how a family spends a term on 0580 material for a 0607 candidate, and it is the most common avoidable error in this subject.

Mark schemes, not just mathematics

Most lost marks in this subject belong to students who understood the content. We teach the awarding rules explicitly: visible method, single rounding at the end, complete transformation descriptions, frequency density, units on the answer line, and triage by mark allocation.

The 0607 investigation is actually practised

Only Cambridge 0607 carries an investigation paper, and it cannot be revised topic by topic. Candidates who sit several under timing before the examination lose far fewer marks to unfamiliarity than those meeting the format for the first time in the hall.

Rates published with their sources

The Dubai bands are on this page with the provider that published each one, so a family can see what the middle of the market costs and what it buys. They are market figures rather than ours, and we quote no IB Gram price list anywhere on the page.

No travel in the rate

Lessons are one-to-one over live video and begin when scheduled. IB Gram provides no home visits in the UAE, since home visiting is a service we run only in India, so nothing in the price pays for a car on Jumeirah Beach Road at five in the afternoon.

We do not supply the boards' materials

Past papers, mark schemes, syllabus documents and grade-boundary tables belong to Cambridge and Pearson. We reference and link to them rather than reproducing or distributing them, and we hold no accreditation, approval or partnership from either board or from any UAE regulator.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Jumeirah 3: your questions answered

How do I find out which IGCSE maths syllabus my child is entered for?+

Ask the school's exams officer for the entry confirmation in writing. It shows the board, the four-digit or alphanumeric syllabus code, the tier where the subject is tiered, and the components entered. The textbook is not reliable evidence, because schools sometimes teach from one publisher's book while entering a different code. Three codes are in common use around Jumeirah 3: Cambridge 0580, Cambridge International Mathematics 0607 and Pearson Edexcel 4MA1, and they need genuinely different preparation.

What is the difference between Cambridge 0580 and Cambridge 0607?+

They are separate syllabuses rather than variants. 0580 is the traditional course, restructured from the 2025 series so candidates sit both a non-calculator and a calculator component, with content centred on algebra, geometry, trigonometry and statistics. 0607 assumes a graphic display calculator, treats modelling and technology as part of the subject, and adds an investigation paper in which a candidate explores a problem rather than answering short questions. IB continuum schools more often enter 0607; British-curriculum schools more often enter 0580.

Does Core or Extended limit the grade my child can achieve?+

Yes, and this is the single most consequential decision in the course. Cambridge 0580 Core is graded C to G; Extended is graded A* to E. Pearson 4MA1 tiers into Foundation and Higher with the same practical effect, Foundation capping the available grade. The tier is set at entry, usually a term or more before the papers, and the latest date for changing it is set by the school's internal cut-off rather than the board's published deadline. Ask which tier your child is on and when that decision was reviewed.

What are the commonest mark-scheme traps in IGCSE maths papers?+

Because mark schemes award method as well as answers. In a multi-step question, visible working earns method marks, and an unsupported correct answer can score less than a fully worked incorrect one. The other recurring causes are rounding at an intermediate step so the final value falls outside the accepted tolerance, giving units that do not match what the question asked for, and describing a transformation without every element the scheme requires. All four are habits rather than knowledge gaps, and all four are fixable within a term.

How should my child actually use past papers for IGCSE maths?+

Four steps, and the first is the one usually skipped. Sit the paper cold and alone, in one sitting, with a clock. Mark it against the board's own scheme, writing the mark gained beside each question rather than a tick. Categorise every lost mark as content, method, accuracy, misreading or time. Then rework only the two largest categories and re-sit those questions a week later, cold. A paper completed with help measures confidence, not readiness, which is why most past-paper practice produces no improvement.

Will a tutor send us a bundle of 0580 papers and marking guides?+

No. Past papers, mark schemes, syllabus documents and grade-boundary tables are the property of Cambridge and Pearson, and reproducing or distributing them is copyright infringement; for unreleased material it carries a malpractice exposure as well. We reference them and link to each board's own pages instead. Your school's exams officer has access to more than is published publicly, and both routes are free. Any provider offering a bundle of these materials is telling you something about how they operate.

What does the 0607 investigation paper actually require?+

An extended exploration of a problem rather than a sequence of short questions. A candidate generates cases, identifies a pattern, generalises it, justifies the generalisation and communicates the result in writing, with the graphic display calculator used as a tool throughout. It cannot be revised topic by topic, which is why students meeting it for the first time in the examination hall lose marks unconnected to their mathematical ability. Several timed attempts, marked and discussed, is the only preparation that works.

How much does an IGCSE maths tutor cost for a family in Jumeirah 3?+

Published Dubai bands run from roughly AED 33 to 650 an hour. Tutopiya advertises from AED 33 to 52 and EdFlik from AED 45 to 65 at the budget online end; Unitors publishes online IGCSE rates from AED 150; TutorChase publishes AED 270; Bestimate's 2026 Dubai table puts a specialist at AED 200 to 450 and upwards and in-home one-to-one at AED 180 to 350; BartyED publishes AED 650. For mathematics the AED 150 to 300 band is where a teacher who knows your child's syllabus code normally sits. These are market figures, not an IB Gram price list.

Is a cheaper tutor a false economy for IGCSE maths?+

It depends what you need. At the AED 45 to 65 end you are buying homework supervision, which has real value in Year 9 or Year 10 for a student who simply stops when stuck. What you are not reliably buying is somebody who knows that 0607 has an investigation paper, that 0580 now includes a non-calculator component, or how Pearson's question style differs from Cambridge's. In Year 11, where the whole value of a session comes from the mark scheme, that difference decides whether the money produced anything.

My child is strong at maths but scores badly in timed papers. What is the fix?+

Almost always triage and pacing rather than content. A student who spends twelve minutes on a four-mark question has made a decision that costs more marks than they gained. The teachable routine is to read the mark allocation, attempt the questions that pay, abandon anything that is not moving after a set time and return at the end. Practised across three timed papers it becomes automatic. A marked script in which no question is left blank is the test that it has worked.

Will a tutor come to our villa in Jumeirah 3 for maths lessons?+

Not through IB Gram. We deliver one-to-one tuition online over live video everywhere in the UAE and we do not provide home visits in Dubai or anywhere in the Emirates; home visiting is a service we run only in India. Independent in-home tutors do work in Dubai, quoted at roughly AED 180 to 500 an hour with travel inside the figure, and monthly packages of AED 1,599 to 1,799 for four two-hour visits circulate widely. The difference from the online band is logistics rather than teaching.

How many weeks of maths tutoring does a Year 11 student in Dubai need?+

It depends on what the diagnosis finds. If the losses are mostly method, accuracy and time, a six to eight week technique block with independent timed papers between sessions often does the work. If there are genuine content gaps across several topics, a full year at one hour a week from the start of Year 11 is the realistic answer, and starting in Year 10 is cheaper still. Build any plan assuming roughly six usable weeks in every eight, because Dubai school breaks and Ramadan remove the rest.

When do IGCSE maths papers and results fall for UAE candidates?+

UAE candidates sit the June and November series. Pearson's final November 2026 International GCSE timetable ran from late October to 19 November 2026; November 2025 results reached students on 22 January 2026, and June 2026 results went to centres on 19 August and to students on 20 August 2026. Cambridge runs June and November series too and allocates every centre to one of six administrative zones, each with its own timetable version. Always plan against the live official timetable, because provisional versions can be revised.

Does a maths tutor working in Dubai need a MoHRE permit?+

Yes. Private tuition in the UAE requires a MoHRE private tuition work permit, introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023 and granted free of charge for two years. Eligible applicants include registered school teachers, government and private-sector employees, unemployed residents, university students and school students aged 15 to 18. Anyone tutoring without one is subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws, and no fine schedule has been published, so treat specific amounts quoted at you as unverified. This is a MoHRE permit, not a KHDA school licence.

What should we bring to the free trial maths lesson?+

The entry confirmation showing board, syllabus code, tier and components; the most recent marked script with the marks written on it; and a realistic count of the teaching weeks left once school breaks are removed. With those three a first session can produce a categorised list of where the marks went and a short habit checklist to apply in the next paper. The trial is free, needs no card details and carries no obligation, and a tutor who cannot name the losses specifically has answered your question anyway.
