IB Maths Tutor in Jumeirah 3

Hiring an IB maths tutor in Jumeirah 3 looks like a local decision and almost never is. Compare this neighbourhood with Jumeirah 2 one way or Umm Suqeim the other, and the schools differ, the school run differs and the first workable session time differs by half an hour. What does not differ is the thing that decides the grade: whether the tutor teaches Analysis and Approaches or Applications and Interpretation, at Higher or Standard Level, to the right paper. Lessons run one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time.

  • Paper-by-paper weightings for AA and AI at both levels
  • Exploration criteria A to E with their mark allocations
  • Market AED bands quoted with the provider that published them
  • A free first lesson, with no card details and no minimum term

IB & IGCSE in Jumeirah 3

Jumeirah 3 against the neighbours, and the one thing that does not change

There is a real difference between hiring a maths tutor from Jumeirah 3 and hiring one from Jumeirah 2, Al Safa or Umm Suqeim, and it is worth setting out honestly before dismissing it. The schools each area feeds are not the same. The run home from a 3pm finish is not the same. The first session time that holds up across a whole term is not the same, and on this coast the difference is around thirty minutes between the eastern end of the corridor and the western one. None of that is imaginary, and a parent comparing options is right to notice it.

What does not change from one street to the next is the part that decides an IB Mathematics grade. A student in Jumeirah 3 sitting Analysis and Approaches at Higher Level has three written papers and an Exploration, with Paper 1 taken without a calculator. A student two kilometres away in Umm Suqeim sitting Applications and Interpretation at Standard Level has two written papers, both with a graphic display calculator, and the same Exploration weighting. Those are different courses with different mark schemes, and the distance between the two houses is irrelevant to either.

That is the argument this page makes. The variables families compare when they search for a tutor nearby are the ones with the least effect on the outcome, and the variables with the most effect are invisible from a postcode. A tutor who lives in Jumeirah 3 and has taught Applications and Interpretation for six years is the wrong hire for an Analysis and Approaches Higher Level student, and no amount of convenience repairs that.

The published rates make the same point from the other direction. The Dubai market quotes online qualified tutors in a band of roughly AED 150 to 300 an hour, with specialists at AED 200 to 450 and upwards; in-home visits are quoted at AED 180 to 500 with travel inside the figure. Those bands are identical whether the address is Jumeirah 1, Jumeirah 3 or Al Manara. Geography moves the logistics and the travel surcharge. It does not move the teaching rate, and online it does not move anything at all.

Every lesson here is delivered one-to-one over live video, timed to Gulf Standard Time. IB Gram does not send tutors to homes anywhere in the UAE; home visiting is a service we run only in India. The practical result is that the comparison between neighbourhoods collapses: a family in Jumeirah 3 and a family in Umm Suqeim choose from the same pool of Analysis and Approaches specialists, at the same rate, and pick a time that suits their own school run rather than somebody's route.

At a glance

  • Two IB courses, AA and AI, each at SL and HL: four different sets of papers
  • AA SL and HL Paper 1 is sat without a calculator; AI allows one throughout
  • The Exploration is 20 per cent of the grade in all four courses
  • Market rates are the same across the Jumeirah corridor; travel surcharges are not
  • Lessons are delivered online over live video, so the tutor pool is not a radius
IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

The Jumeirah corridor holds IB continuum schools and British-curriculum schools within a few minutes of each other, so the mathematics question a family asks depends entirely on which system their child is in. These are the routes our Dubai tutors cover.

DPAges 16-19 · DP1 and DP2

Diploma Programme Mathematics

Two courses, each at two levels. Analysis and Approaches emphasises algebraic reasoning, proof and calculus; Applications and Interpretation emphasises modelling, statistics and technology use. All four share five topic areas: number and algebra, functions, geometry and trigonometry, statistics and probability, and calculus, with Standard Level timetabled for 150 teaching hours and Higher Level for 240.

Dubai's IB cohort is a minority of a private-school market dominated by the British curriculum, so Higher Level Analysis and Approaches teachers are genuinely scarce within any short radius of Jumeirah 3. That scarcity, rather than price, is the strongest practical argument for booking online: the pool stops being a drive time and becomes a timetable.

MYPAges 11-16 · MYP 1 to MYP 5

Middle Years Programme Mathematics

Assessed against four criteria: knowing and understanding, investigating patterns, communicating, and applying mathematics in real-life contexts, each marked out of 8. Criterion B, investigating patterns, has no equivalent in a British maths course and is the strand where MYP students most often sit two marks below their apparent ability.

Schools on this coast run standard and extended mathematics streams within the MYP, and the stream a student finishes MYP 5 in heavily influences whether Analysis and Approaches at Higher Level is realistic in DP1. Families comparing Jumeirah 3 schools with those in Umm Suqeim should ask about the stream structure, not just the programme name.

IGCSEAges 14-16 · Years 10 and 11

IGCSE and International GCSE Mathematics

Cambridge Mathematics 0580, Cambridge International Mathematics 0607 and Pearson Edexcel 4MA1 are three different syllabuses at the same level. 0607 carries a graphic display calculator expectation and an investigation, which makes it the closer preparation for IB Mathematics; 0580 Extended is closer to a traditional algebraic course.

Several Dubai IB continuum schools enter 0607 rather than 0580, and that choice shows up two years later in how comfortable a DP1 student is with technology in Applications and Interpretation. Check the code on the entry confirmation before assuming the preparation matched the course the child has now started.

ALAges 16-18 · Years 12 and 13

A Level Mathematics, for comparison

The alternative post-16 route in Dubai's British-curriculum schools, with Further Mathematics as an extension. Compared with the IB, it concentrates on fewer subjects in more depth and carries no equivalent of the Exploration, so the written-mathematics skill set a student develops is narrower and deeper.

Families in Jumeirah 3 frequently hold both options open until the end of Year 11, and the mathematics decision is usually the deciding one. A student who dislikes extended written work often prefers A Level; a student who likes investigation and modelling usually does better in Applications and Interpretation.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

IB Mathematics tutoring is organised by course, level and topic, because the mark scheme changes with all three. These are the areas Dubai families ask for, with the specific failure each one tends to produce.

Analysis and Approaches HL

Higher Level · 240 hours

Three papers plus the Exploration. Proof, complex numbers, vectors and the extended calculus content are the sections that separate a 5 from a 7, and Paper 3 rewards sustained problem-solving across a long unstructured question. Most late marks are lost to algebraic slips in no-calculator work rather than to missing theory.

Analysis and Approaches SL

Standard Level · 150 hours

Two papers plus the Exploration, with Paper 1 sat without a calculator. Students who have come through a calculator-heavy IGCSE course frequently arrive unable to manipulate surds, logarithms and trigonometric exact values by hand, which is a technique gap rather than a knowledge gap and responds quickly to drilling.

Applications and Interpretation HL

Higher Level · 240 hours

Three papers, all with a calculator, weighted towards statistics, modelling, graph theory and matrices. Paper 3 is a long investigation-style question that cannot be revised for by topic; it has to be practised as a format. Students lose marks by producing a correct model with no interpretation of what it means.

Applications and Interpretation SL

Standard Level · 150 hours

Two papers with a calculator throughout, plus the Exploration. The statistics content is the bulk of the course and the regression and hypothesis-testing questions reward a disciplined calculator routine. The common failure is treating the course as easier rather than different, and skipping the written interpretation marks.

Number and algebra

AA and AI, SL and HL

Sequences and series, binomial expansion, exponents and logarithms, and at Higher Level proof and complex numbers. Marks are lost in presentation: a correct answer with no visible method forfeits the method marks the scheme allocates, and this is the single most common avoidable loss across both courses.

Functions

AA and AI, SL and HL

Domain and range, transformations, inverse and composite functions, and modelling with functions in Applications and Interpretation. Students handle the algebra and then misread the question's context, which costs the interpretation marks rather than the calculation marks.

Geometry and trigonometry

AA and AI, SL and HL

Trigonometric identities and equations in Analysis and Approaches; three-dimensional geometry, vectors and, at AI Higher Level, graph theory and Voronoi diagrams. The non-calculator trigonometric work in AA Paper 1 is a reliable source of lost marks for students trained on a calculator.

Statistics and probability

AA and AI, SL and HL

The dominant topic in Applications and Interpretation and a smaller strand in Analysis and Approaches. Distributions, correlation, regression and hypothesis testing at AI; binomial and normal distributions at AA. The calculator does the arithmetic, so the marks sit in choosing the right test and stating the conclusion properly.

Calculus

AA and AI, SL and HL

Differentiation and integration, with AA Higher Level extending into implicit differentiation, differential equations and Maclaurin series. In AI the emphasis moves towards numerical methods and rates of change in context. Chain, product and quotient rules under no-calculator conditions are where AA students most often stall.

The Exploration

All four courses · 20 per cent

An individual written investigation of roughly 12 to 20 pages, internally assessed and externally moderated, marked out of 20 across five criteria. It is the single largest block of marks a student fully controls, and it is routinely the least prepared part of the course because it has no paper date.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three formats cover nearly every IB mathematics request from this coast, and all three run online over live video. The choice is about what stage of the two-year course the student is at.

Weekly one-to-one on the course and level

One hour a week pinned to the student's actual course, Analysis and Approaches or Applications and Interpretation, at their actual level. The session follows the school's sequence but adds past-paper questions from the start, which is what separates a tutor from a homework supervisor across a two-year programme.

  • Paper-specific practice from the first term of DP1
  • No-calculator discipline built deliberately for AA students
  • Calculator routines drilled for AI statistics questions
  • Reviewed each term against marks on timed questions

Exploration coaching blocks

Three to five sessions spread across the writing period, aimed at the five criteria rather than at the mathematics alone. Because the Exploration carries 20 per cent of the grade and has no examination date, it is the component most often left until it cannot be rescued, and a planned block prevents that.

  • Criterion-by-criterion feedback on the student's own draft
  • Topic feasibility checked before weeks are spent on it
  • Reflection and personal engagement treated as marks, not decoration
  • No part of the work is produced for the student

Pre-examination paper clinics

Short, intense blocks on one paper at a time: AA Paper 1 without a calculator, AI Paper 3's long investigation, HL Paper 3's unstructured problem. Each clinic practises a format rather than a topic, which is the skill the final term actually tests and the one revision guides cannot supply.

  • One paper format per block, practised under timing
  • Marked against the published scheme, not by impression
  • Triage and time allocation taught explicitly
  • Fixed session count, so the cost is known in advance

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Jumeirah 3

01

Jumeirah 3 or the next area over: what actually differs

Set the neighbourhoods side by side and the honest differences are logistical. Jumeirah 3 sits further west along the beach road than Jumeirah 2, with larger plots and a longer run back from the schools clustered around Al Safa and Umm Suqeim. That pushes the first dependable weekday session later, towards 5pm, where a Jumeirah 2 family can usually hold 4.30pm. Palm Jumeirah has one access route and is therefore the least forgiving of any arrangement that requires somebody to drive.

The second real difference is the mix of schools each area feeds, and it shows in what families ask for. Enquiries from Umm Suqeim skew towards Analysis and Approaches at Higher Level because the IB presence there is heavier. Enquiries from Al Safa skew towards IGCSE 0580 and A Level mathematics because the nearest schools are British-curriculum. Jumeirah 3 sits between the two and produces both, often from the same household.

Now the part that does not differ. The published rate bands for mathematics tuition are the same across all of these areas, the available pool of Analysis and Approaches Higher Level teachers inside a twenty-minute drive is small in all of them, and the component weightings of the student's paper are identical wherever the family lives. The table sets this out directly: three columns of difference and two of sameness.

The conclusion a parent should draw is narrow and practical. Compare neighbourhoods for the school run and for the session time that will survive a term. Do not compare them for the tutor, because the right tutor for an Analysis and Approaches Higher Level student is selected on course, level and paper, and once the lesson is delivered over live video the address has stopped being a variable at all.

Analysis and Approaches or Applications and Interpretation: the decision behind most of the trouble

More Diploma mathematics problems in Dubai trace back to the course choice than to the teaching. The two courses are not a harder and an easier version of each other. Analysis and Approaches is built on algebraic reasoning, proof and calculus, with Paper 1 sat without a calculator at both levels. Applications and Interpretation is built on modelling, statistics and technology, with a calculator available throughout. A student who is strong at algebra and weak at extended written interpretation belongs in one; a student with the reverse profile belongs in the other.

The complication is that the choice is often made for university reasons rather than for aptitude ones, and sometimes on hearsay. Higher Level Analysis and Approaches is the route more commonly specified by engineering, mathematics, physics and economics degrees, but the authoritative statement is always the university's own published entry requirement, and those differ between institutions and between years. Read the requirement for the actual course your child is interested in, from the university's own admissions page, before treating the matter as settled.

Where a student is already in the wrong course, the useful question is whether a change is still possible within the school's deadlines, and that is a conversation with the Diploma coordinator rather than a tutoring purchase. Where a change is no longer possible, tutoring has a clear job: build the specific technique the chosen course demands, which for Analysis and Approaches usually means no-calculator fluency and for Applications and Interpretation usually means written interpretation of a model.

The table compares the two courses on the things that decide marks, rather than on reputation. It is the comparison most Dubai families are never shown, and it is the one that would have prevented a good proportion of the mathematics difficulties we are asked to repair in DP2.

The four papers, their weightings, and where the marks go

Parents are rarely told how an IB mathematics grade is actually assembled, which makes it hard to know what a tutor should be working on. Each course has written papers plus the Exploration, and the Exploration is 20 per cent in all four. The written papers carry the rest, split differently at Standard and Higher Level, and the durations differ too, which changes what revision has to achieve.

At Standard Level there are two written papers, each worth 40 per cent and each ninety minutes. At Higher Level there are three: two longer papers at 30 per cent each and a shorter Paper 3 at 20 per cent, which presents one or two extended, unstructured problems rather than a set of questions. Paper 3 is the component Higher Level students most often neglect, because it cannot be revised topic by topic and no revision guide can substitute for having sat several.

The calculator rule is the detail that matters most in Analysis and Approaches. Paper 1 is taken without one, at both levels. A student trained through a calculator-dependent IGCSE course can lose a large number of marks there while being perfectly capable of the mathematics, and the fix is mechanical: exact trigonometric values, surd manipulation, logarithm laws and algebraic fractions drilled until they are automatic.

Read the table as an allocation of tutoring time. If the Exploration is worth 20 per cent and has had no attention, that is where the cheapest marks are. If Paper 3 is worth 20 per cent at Higher Level and the student has never sat one under timing, no amount of further topic revision is the right purchase.

04

The Exploration, criterion by criterion

The Exploration is the largest block of marks an IB mathematics student completely controls, and it is the component Dubai families most often leave until it is too late to help. It is an individual written investigation of roughly twelve to twenty pages, internally assessed by the school and externally moderated, and it is marked out of twenty across five criteria rather than as a single piece of mathematics.

Those criteria are worth knowing by letter, because nobody ranking for these searches publishes them and they explain almost every disappointing mark. Criterion A, presentation, is worth four marks and rewards coherence and organisation. Criterion B, mathematical communication, is worth four and rewards correct notation, defined variables and appropriate use of forms of representation. Criterion C, personal engagement, is worth three. Criterion D, reflection, is worth three. Criterion E, use of mathematics, is worth six and is the only criterion where the sophistication of the mathematics itself is assessed.

Read those allocations and the usual failure becomes obvious. A student spends the whole effort on criterion E, produces competent mathematics, and loses most of criteria C and D because the writing contains no genuine engagement and no reflection on what the results meant or where the model broke down. Six marks out of twenty sit in two criteria that are about thinking aloud on paper, and they are the cheapest marks in the entire two-year course to recover.

The other common failure is topic choice. A question too large cannot be treated properly in twenty pages; a question too small cannot reach the top of criterion E. Checking feasibility before weeks have gone into it is the most valuable single hour of Exploration coaching available, and it has to happen early. What a tutor may do here is bounded, and the next section sets out exactly where that boundary sits.

IB MATHEMATICS EXPLORATION — CRITERIA A TO E AND MARK ALLOCATIONS
CriterionWhat it assessesMarksThe typical loss
A — PresentationCoherence, organisation and conciseness of the write-up4A report that reads as a sequence of calculations with no argument
B — Mathematical communicationNotation, defined variables, appropriate representation4Undefined symbols, unlabelled graphs, inconsistent notation
C — Personal engagementGenuine independent thinking and ownership of the question3A generic topic treated generically, with no sign of the student in it
D — ReflectionCritical reflection on results, methods and limitations3A conclusion that restates the answer instead of evaluating it
E — Use of mathematicsCorrectness, sophistication and relevance of the mathematics6Mathematics well below the level of the student's own course
05

Academic honesty on the Exploration, stated plainly

The Exploration is the student's own work and carries an authorship declaration. That makes the boundary around tutoring support both important and simple, and worth putting in writing before any session is booked. A tutor may explain what each criterion rewards, discuss whether a proposed question is feasible, teach the mathematical technique the investigation requires, model notation on a different example, read a draft and say which criterion it is currently failing, and ask questions that make the student reconsider their own reasoning.

A tutor may not choose the research question, supply text to be copied into the report, restructure a draft on the student's behalf, carry out the mathematics and hand over the results, or edit a piece to the point where the writing is no longer the student's. No tutor on this platform produces an Exploration, an Internal Assessment or any part of an Extended Essay for a student. That is not a disclaimer; it is the difference between support that improves a grade and support that puts a candidate at risk of a malpractice finding.

This market contains providers who do cross the line. Research into the UAE tutoring search results found one selling completed Internal Assessments outright. A family offered finished work should understand where the exposure sits: the declaration is signed by the student, and the consequence of a malpractice finding falls on the student, not on whoever sold it.

The test a parent can apply after any Exploration session needs no mathematical knowledge at all. Ask your child to explain, in their own words, what they changed and which criterion required the change. A student who can do that has been taught. A student who cannot has been handed something, and the examiner will reach the same conclusion through the moderation process.

06

What IB maths tutoring costs on this coast, and why the postcode does not move it

  • Published bands are identical across the Jumeirah corridor; travel surcharges are not
  • Qualified online band: roughly AED 150-300 an hour across the Dubai market
  • AA Higher Level is where the genuine scarcity premium sits in this emirate
  • Exploration coaching and Paper 3 clinics are the two most under-bought blocks

A parent comparing Jumeirah 3 with Jumeirah 2 or Umm Suqeim will find the same published rates in all three, which is the clearest evidence that geography is not what you are paying for. What varies with distance is the travel surcharge, and that is a cost rather than a feature. Setting the bands out plainly makes the choice easier, and almost nobody ranking for these searches publishes any figure at all.

The market reads as follows. Tutopiya advertises from AED 33 to 52 an hour and EdFlik from AED 45 to 65 at the budget online end. Unitors publishes online rates from AED 150 for IGCSE and AED 200 for IB. TutorChase publishes AED 270. Bestimate's 2026 Dubai rate table puts a qualified subject specialist at AED 200 to 450 and upwards, in-home one-to-one at AED 180 to 350, and independent home tutors as high as AED 500. BartyED publishes AED 650 at the premium end. All of those are the providers' own published figures, not an IB Gram price list.

For Diploma mathematics specifically, the scarcity premium is real and it sits on Higher Level Analysis and Approaches. There are not many teachers in any single Dubai neighbourhood who have taught that syllabus recently, which is why a search constrained to a short drive tends to return either a generalist or a very high quote. Removing the radius removes the premium that scarcity creates, because the constraint becomes a timetable rather than a map.

One piece of context for a household budget. KHDA confirmed in May 2026 that private school fees in Dubai would not rise for the 2026-27 academic year, under the emirate's second economic incentives package. A year without a fee increase is the sensible moment to fund the Exploration coaching and the Paper 3 clinics that most families never buy, rather than extending an open-ended weekly booking.

07

The school run, and the half hour that separates these neighbourhoods

  • Jumeirah 3 first dependable slot: around 5pm; Jumeirah 2 around 4.30pm
  • Palm Jumeirah's single access route makes travelling arrangements least reliable
  • 7pm and 8pm Gulf Standard Time slots suit DIFC and Business Bay commuters
  • Ramadan: early afternoon or post-Iftar, agreed in advance and kept the same

School days along this coast end between roughly 2.30pm and 3.30pm, and the journey home adds twenty to fifty minutes depending on direction and on whether the route crosses Al Wasl Road or Jumeirah Beach Road at the wrong moment. For a Jumeirah 3 family that puts the first dependable weekday session at about 5pm. For Jumeirah 2, half an hour earlier. For Palm Jumeirah, with one access route, later still and less predictable.

That half hour is the entire practical difference between these neighbourhoods, and it only matters if somebody has to travel. An online session can begin at 5.05pm because the student walks from the door to a desk; a travelling tutor cannot promise 5.05pm from any of these addresses in term time. Families who have tried both formats tend to describe the same experience: the online slot is the one that is still intact in week eight.

The later part of the evening is widely available and underused. Sessions at 7pm and 8pm Gulf Standard Time suit households where both parents commute from DIFC or Business Bay, and for DP2 students they sit after sport and after the first pass at homework, which usually produces better questions. For Higher Level work a later, longer slot is often more productive than an early, shorter one.

Ramadan rearranges all of it. School hours shorten and the usable window moves to the early afternoon or to after Iftar, both of which work over live video and neither of which works well for anyone driving in Dubai at those hours. Agreeing the Ramadan slot a fortnight in advance, with the same tutor and the same weekday, keeps a Paper 3 block intact through the month.

08

Starting, and what we will tell you honestly

  • Write down the exact course and level before contacting anybody
  • Bring the most recent marked paper and note which component it was
  • Check the school's Exploration deadline and whether a topic is approved
  • Expect an honest answer about availability rather than a convenient match

The useful first step takes twenty minutes and no money. Write down the course and level exactly as the school has it: Analysis and Approaches or Applications and Interpretation, Higher or Standard. Find the most recent marked paper and note which paper it was. Check whether the Exploration has a school deadline and whether a topic has been approved. Those three facts turn a general request for a maths tutor in Jumeirah 3 into a brief a specialist can act on in the first session.

Then take the free trial lesson and use it to test one thing: whether the tutor can look at the marked paper and say precisely where the marks went, in the language of that paper's mark scheme. A tutor who talks about confidence and foundations without reference to the component is not the right hire for a Diploma student, whatever the rate.

We will be straightforward about availability. Higher Level Analysis and Approaches specialists are not abundant at every hour, and for a narrow request close to a deadline the honest answer is sometimes a different weekday or a short wait. We would rather say that than fill a slot with a tutor who knows mathematics but not that paper, which is the failure mode of hiring by proximity.

Finally, be realistic about volume. One hour a week across DP1, with Exploration blocks timed to the school's deadlines and a paper clinic in the final term, is the shape that works and the shape that stays affordable. Booking three hours a week in DP2 after a poor mock is the most expensive way to learn what one hour a week in DP1 would have prevented.

Where we tutor

This neighbourhood compared with the ones either side

The comparison below is the one families actually make before they search. It sets out what genuinely differs between Jumeirah 3 and its neighbours, and then the point of the page: because lessons are delivered online, the tutor pool and the rate are identical in every one of them.

Jumeirah 2

One stretch east along the same beach road. Shorter runs home from the nearer schools, so a 4.30pm start is realistic where Jumeirah 3 is safer at 5pm. Same tutor pool, same rate.

Jumeirah 1

The oldest and densest part of the corridor, with the most school provision within a short radius and therefore the strongest illusion that a local tutor is the right answer.

Umm Suqeim

West along the coast, with a heavier IB presence and consequently more Analysis and Approaches Higher Level enquiries than any other area in this cluster.

Al Safa

Inland, feeding mainly British-curriculum schools, so most mathematics enquiries from here concern IGCSE 0580 or A Level rather than the Diploma.

Al Manara

Quiet and further from the beach road. Later slots at 7pm are more often preferred than earlier ones, which online scheduling makes simple to hold across a term.

Al Wasl

Directly inland along Al Wasl Road, with households commonly running one Diploma student and one MYP student and wanting consecutive sessions on the same evening.

Palm Jumeirah

A single access route, which makes any travelling tutor a scheduling risk at 5pm and makes the online comparison even more one-sided than it is on the mainland.

Al Quoz

Mixed residential and light industrial, with longer school runs that push the first dependable session towards 5.15pm during term time.

  2. 02

Read the most recent marked paper

We work from a marked script rather than a description, question by question, and rank the losses by marks rather than by how difficult they felt. In mathematics this usually shows that presentation and method marks account for more of the gap than missing theory does.

  3. 03

    Check where the Exploration stands

Twenty per cent of the grade sits in a component with no examination date, so we ask about it in the first conversation. If a topic has not been approved, that is the first job; if a draft exists, criterion-by-criterion feedback is usually the fastest available improvement.

  4. 04

Match on the paper, then the hour

Matching is done on who teaches that course and level at the time you want on Gulf Standard Time, not on who is nearest Jumeirah 3. If no suitable specialist is free in your window we say so and offer the alternatives rather than substituting a general mathematics tutor.

  5. 05

Take the free trial, then review on marks

The first lesson is free and commits you to nothing. After that, progress is reported as marks on timed questions against the published scheme, reviewed each term. A booking that is not moving the number should be changed or stopped, and we will say so first.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

Matched on the paper, not the postcode

An Analysis and Approaches Higher Level student needs a teacher who knows that paper, and inside a twenty-minute drive of any Jumeirah address there are few of them. Online delivery makes the constraint a timetable instead of a map, which is the whole argument of this page.

The Exploration treated as 20 per cent

Most mathematics tutoring in this market never touches the Exploration, despite it carrying a fifth of the grade and twenty marks across five named criteria. We coach it to the criteria, on the student's own draft, and produce no part of it ourselves.

Calculator discipline taken seriously

AA Paper 1 is sat without a calculator at both levels, and students arriving from calculator-heavy IGCSE courses lose marks there on mathematics they understand. That is a drilling problem with a quick fix, and it is one of the first things we test for.

Rates published, with their sources

The Dubai bands are on this page with the provider who published each one, so a family can see that the rate does not change between Jumeirah 2 and Jumeirah 3. They are market figures, not our price list, and we quote none of them as ours.

No travel, so no lost sessions

Lessons run one-to-one over live video and start when they are scheduled. IB Gram provides no home visits in the UAE, since home visiting is a service we run only in India, which is why nothing in the rate pays for a car on Jumeirah Beach Road at 5pm.

Claims limited to what we can show

We hold no approval, accreditation or partnership from the IB, Cambridge, Pearson, KHDA, MoHRE or the Ministry of Education. We publish no success statistic, no rating and no grade promise, and we do not reproduce or supply the boards' own assessment materials.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Jumeirah 3: your questions answered

Does it matter whether an IB maths tutor lives near Jumeirah 3?+

Only if someone has to travel, and in our model nobody does. Lessons are delivered one-to-one over live video, so the tutor is chosen for teaching the student's exact course and level rather than for living nearby. The cost of insisting on proximity is that the pool of Higher Level Analysis and Approaches teachers within a twenty-minute drive of any Jumeirah address is small, so the search quietly becomes a search for the nearest available maths graduate instead of the right subject specialist.

Is IB maths tutoring more expensive in Jumeirah 3 than in Jumeirah 2?+

No. The published Dubai bands are the same along the whole corridor: EdFlik from AED 45 to 65 and Tutopiya from AED 33 to 52 at the budget online end, Unitors from AED 200 for IB, TutorChase at AED 270, and Bestimate's 2026 table at AED 200 to 450 and upwards for a specialist. What changes with distance is the travel surcharge inside in-home quotes, which Bestimate puts at AED 180 to 350 and independent tutors at up to AED 500. Those are market figures, not an IB Gram price list.

Which IB maths course should my child take, AA or AI?+

It depends on aptitude and on the university course they are aiming at, in that order. Analysis and Approaches rewards algebraic reasoning, proof and calculus, with Paper 1 sat without a calculator. Applications and Interpretation rewards modelling, statistics and technology use, with a calculator throughout. Higher Level Analysis and Approaches is the route more commonly specified by engineering and mathematics degrees, but entry requirements differ between institutions and years, so read the university's own admissions page rather than relying on general advice.

What are the paper weightings in IB Mathematics at Standard and Higher Level?+

At Standard Level there are two written papers at 40 per cent each, both ninety minutes, plus the Exploration at 20 per cent. At Higher Level there are three written papers: two at 30 per cent each over 120 minutes, and Paper 3 at 20 per cent over 60 minutes, plus the same 20 per cent Exploration. Paper 3 presents extended unstructured problems rather than a set of standard questions, which is why it has to be practised as a format rather than revised topic by topic.

Why does my child lose marks on Paper 1 despite understanding the topic?+

In Analysis and Approaches, Paper 1 is sat without a calculator at both levels, and students who came through a calculator-dependent IGCSE course often cannot manipulate surds, exact trigonometric values, logarithms or algebraic fractions quickly by hand. The mathematics is understood; the execution is slow and error-prone under time pressure. This is a mechanical gap rather than a conceptual one and it responds quickly to short, repeated drilling, which is usually the first thing we test for in a diagnostic session.

How is the IB Maths Exploration marked?+

Out of twenty, across five criteria. Criterion A, presentation, carries four marks. Criterion B, mathematical communication, carries four. Criterion C, personal engagement, carries three. Criterion D, reflection, carries three. Criterion E, use of mathematics, carries six and is the only one assessing the sophistication of the mathematics itself. It is internally assessed and externally moderated, and runs to roughly twelve to twenty pages. Most lost marks sit in criteria C and D, which reward thinking that students assume does not count.

How long should the IB Maths Exploration be, and when should it start?+

Roughly twelve to twenty pages, and it should start earlier than most Dubai students begin it. Because it has no examination date, it competes with components that do and routinely slips until the mathematics has to be rushed. The single most valuable early step is checking that the chosen question is the right size: too broad and it cannot be treated properly in the page allowance, too narrow and it cannot reach the upper band of criterion E. Your school sets the internal deadline, so ask for it in writing.

What exactly can a tutor do on the Exploration without breaking the rules?+

A tutor may explain what each criterion rewards, test whether a proposed question is feasible, teach the mathematical technique involved, model notation on a different example, read a draft and name the criterion it is failing, and ask questions that force the student to re-examine their reasoning. A tutor may not choose the question, supply text to be copied, restructure the report, or carry out the mathematics and hand over results. The declaration of authorship is signed by the student, so the risk of crossing that line falls on them.

My child is in Applications and Interpretation but wants an engineering degree. What now?+

First, check the actual published entry requirement for the specific courses they are applying to, from each university's own admissions page, because the picture is less uniform than staffroom advice suggests. Second, ask the Diploma coordinator whether a change of course is still possible within the school's deadlines; that is a school conversation rather than a tutoring purchase. If a change is not available, tutoring should concentrate on the Higher Level statistical and modelling content and on building the algebraic fluency the destination course will assume.

How many hours a week does a DP1 maths student in Dubai usually need?+

One hour a week is the common and generally sufficient starting point in DP1, with short additional blocks timed to the Exploration deadline and a paper clinic in the final term of DP2. Families who book two or three hours a week usually do so in DP2 after a poor mock, at which point the same total spend buys far less because the time has gone. If a single weekly hour is not moving marks on timed questions after six weeks, the plan needs changing rather than extending.

Should we book one tutor for maths and physics together, or two?+

Sometimes at Standard Level, rarely well at Higher Level. The overlap in content is real but the mark schemes and the internal assessments are different, and a Higher Level Analysis and Approaches Paper 3 has nothing in common with a physics investigation. If a combined booking is offered, ask the tutor directly which physics component they have taught most recently and which maths paper they would prioritise. A specific answer is a good sign; a general one is not.

What time can a maths session start from Jumeirah 3 in term time?+

School days along this coast end between roughly 2.30pm and 3.30pm, and the journey home adds twenty to fifty minutes, so around 5pm is the first dependable weekday start from Jumeirah 3. A Jumeirah 2 family can usually hold 4.30pm, and Palm Jumeirah is later and less predictable because of its single access route. Slots at 7pm and 8pm Gulf Standard Time are widely available and often better for Higher Level work, when a longer session after sport produces sharper questions.

Will IB Gram send a maths tutor to our home in Jumeirah 3?+

No. We deliver one-to-one tuition online over live video everywhere in the UAE, and we do not provide home visits in Dubai or anywhere else in the Emirates; home visiting is a service we run only in India. Independent in-home tutors do operate in Dubai and are quoted at roughly AED 180 to 500 an hour with travel inside the figure, alongside monthly packages of AED 1,599 to 1,799 for four two-hour visits. The gap between those and the online band is logistics rather than teaching.

Does a tutor teaching a Dubai student need a permit from MoHRE?+

Yes. Private tuition in the UAE requires a MoHRE private tuition work permit, introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023 and granted free of charge for two years. Eligible applicants include registered school teachers, government and private-sector employees, unemployed residents, university students and school students aged 15 to 18. Anyone tutoring without one is subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws, and no fine schedule has been published, so treat any amount quoted at you as unverified. It is a MoHRE permit, not a KHDA school licence.

When are the IB mathematics examinations and results published?+

UAE schools sit the May session, and your school's IB coordinator holds the authoritative dates. We do not publish specific IB examination or results dates on this page: ibo.org blocks automated checking, so no IB date in this project has been confirmed from the IB itself, and a wrong date on a page like this is something a parent would act on. Ask the coordinator directly, or read the IB's own assessment pages, and plan the Exploration and paper clinics backwards from what they tell you.

Compare the school run, not the tutor

Jumeirah 3, Jumeirah 2 and Umm Suqeim differ by about half an hour on the school run and by the schools they feed. They do not differ in the published tutoring rates, in how thin the local pool of Higher Level Analysis and Approaches teachers is, or in how an IB mathematics grade is assembled. Write down the course and level, bring the most recent marked paper and the school's Exploration deadline, and take a free trial lesson with someone who can tell you where the marks went. Sessions run one-to-one online over live video on Gulf Standard Time.
