IGCSE Science Tutor in Dubai Internet City

An IGCSE science tutor in Dubai Internet City is usually found by a parent at a desk in the free zone, for a child at school in Al Sufouh, Al Barsha, The Greens or the Marina. This page goes through the content itself, discipline by discipline: the biology terminology that carries marks, the chemistry equations that have to balance, and the algebra that decides a physics grade. Lessons run one-to-one, online, over live video, in Gulf Standard Time.

  • Biology, chemistry and physics each taught by a tutor who teaches that syllabus
  • Core and Extended tier differences explained in content terms, not labels
  • Cambridge and Pearson papers treated as different documents, because they are
  • Written session notes after each lesson for a parent who is still at work

IB & IGCSE in Dubai Internet City

Three disciplines, three different reasons marks go missing

The three IGCSE sciences fail in three distinct ways, and that single observation is worth more than any general revision advice. Biology marks are lost to imprecise terminology and to long answers that contain fewer distinct points than the mark allocation required. Chemistry marks are lost to method selection in calculations and to notation: a missing state symbol, an unbalanced equation, a charge left off an ion. Physics marks are lost to algebra, standard form and graph reading. A student who is told to revise harder is being given the same instruction for three different problems.

Dubai Internet City is a free zone in Al Sufouh rather than a residential district: the regional offices of large technology companies, bordered by Dubai Knowledge Park and Dubai Media City, with the Red Line of the Metro running past it. Families connected to it live in The Greens, The Views, Barsha Heights, Al Sufouh and the Marina towers, and their children attend schools across Al Sufouh and Al Barsha. Enquiries from this postcode typically come from a parent during the working day about a student who will be home at five, which shapes what a sensible arrangement looks like.

What that arrangement needs is a record. A parent who is in the office when a session runs cannot ask how it went, so written session notes, a fixed weekly slot that does not need reconfirming, and a recording are not conveniences but the substance of the service. We treat them as deliverables rather than as extras, and families in this district consistently tell us they matter more than any other operational detail.

There is one more variable families underestimate, and it is the tier. Cambridge separate sciences are entered at Core or Extended, and the two are not the same syllabus: Extended carries supplementary content the Core specification does not contain, and Core is capped below the top grades. A student revising the wrong set of material is working hard in a direction the paper will not reward, and a capped grade can quietly close a post-16 science route a family assumed was open. Pearson's separate sciences are untiered, which removes the question but introduces another one about whether separates or the double award was taken. Both questions are answered by the entry rather than by memory, and both are settled by one email to the examinations officer asking for the codes and the tier in writing.

On delivery: IB Gram teaches UAE students online, one-to-one, over live video, scheduled in Gulf Standard Time. We do not send tutors to homes anywhere in the UAE; home visits are a service we run only in India. For science specifically the screen is not a compromise. Diagrams are annotated live, a graph can be redrawn three times in two minutes, and a student's own marked script sits on screen beside the mark scheme, which is where almost all useful diagnosis in these subjects actually happens.

At a glance

  • Biology: terminology precision and counting the scoring points before writing
  • Chemistry: method selection in calculations, plus state symbols and balanced equations
  • Physics: rearrangement, standard form, unit prefixes and gradients read from the line
  • The syllabus code on the entry decides which past papers are worth sitting
  • UAE candidates sit June and November; the Cambridge February and March series is India-only
IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Three stages produce nearly all the science enquiries from this corridor, and the free-zone relocation cycle means a sizeable share involve a student who joined their school part-way through Year 10 or 11.

IGCSEAges 14-16 · Years 10-11

IGCSE Sciences, Years 10 and 11

The examined course, sat as three separate sciences, a double award or a single combined award depending on the school and set. Work divides between content, calculation method and the written assessment of practical skills. Which of the three dominates is decided by reading a marked paper, not by asking the student what feels hard.

Schools near the free zone are mostly British curriculum with established science departments, and they vary in teaching order more than in content. Ask for the department's scheme of work alongside the syllabus codes, because a tutor working three topics ahead of the class is making the student's week harder rather than easier.

TransferAges 14-16 · Years 10-11

Mid-year arrivals into a Year 10 or 11 science course

Students joining a Dubai school part-way through the course from another system. The first step is an audit of what was covered and to what depth, against the specification rather than against a textbook. Transfers arrive unevenly rather than uniformly behind, and the audit turns a vague worry into a short written list.

The posting cycles of the technology and media sectors make this routine in this catchment. A student arriving in January of Year 11 is a timetabling problem as much as a teaching one, and the honest first conversation is about which topics to prioritise rather than about covering everything.

Post-16Ages 16-19 · Years 12-13

What the science grades make possible next

Schools in Al Sufouh and Al Barsha split after sixteen into A Level and IB Diploma routes, and higher-level sciences in either assume a particular depth of prior study. The useful work in Year 11 is therefore not only the grade but the specific skills the next course will assume: algebraic fluency, graph interpretation and precision in written answers.

Where a student is aiming at medicine or engineering, check the published entry requirements of the specific universities rather than relying on general guidance. Those requirements are usually about the post-16 qualification, which is precisely why the IGCSE route and tier matter: they set what is comfortably achievable afterwards.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

These are the science syllabuses we cover for students in this corridor. The code is what determines paper structure and past papers, so confirm it before any plan is built.

Biology (Cambridge 0610)

Core and Extended

Content-dense and vocabulary-dependent. The biggest recoverable loss is long answers containing fewer distinct scoring points than the mark allocation demanded.

Chemistry (Cambridge 0620)

Core and Extended

Calculation method and notation decide the grade more than recall does. State symbols, ionic charges and balanced equations are marks rather than presentation.

Physics (Cambridge 0625)

Core and Extended

Formula-driven and graph-heavy. Rearrangement, standard form and unit prefixes are the usual causes of a grade that does not match the student's understanding.

Biology (Pearson 4BI1)

Single tier

Pearson's separate biology, with question phrasing noticeably different from Cambridge. The content overlap is large; the paper style is not.

Chemistry (Pearson 4CH1)

Single tier

Calculator allowed throughout, which moves the risk from arithmetic to rounding and interpretation. Practical knowledge is examined in writing.

Physics (Pearson 4PH1)

Single tier

A shorter formula list than many students expect, applied in less familiar contexts. Confidence with the given equations is more useful than memorising more of them.

Co-ordinated Sciences (Cambridge 0654)

Double award

Two grades across all three disciplines. Less content than three separates with identical technique demands, so revision is planned across disciplines.

Combined Science (Cambridge 0653)

Single award

One grade across the three disciplines. Pacing is the dominant problem in the papers, and pacing responds to timed practice rather than content.

Science Double Award (Pearson 4SD0)

Double award

Pearson's two-grade route across the disciplines. A short bridging block before post-16 sciences is the sensible plan if a science pathway is intended.

Mathematics (0580 / 4MA1)

Core, Extended, Foundation, Higher

Often the real cause of a physics or chemistry problem. Repairing rearrangement and standard form lifts two science grades at the same time.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three ways of working, all one-to-one online over live video in Gulf Standard Time, chosen by what a marked script says is wrong.

Single-discipline weekly teaching

One science, one evening, every week, sequenced against the department's scheme of work. Usually the right purchase because the weakest discipline is normally weak for a reason shared with a second, so fixing one lifts two. It also keeps the household's week manageable, which matters more than families expect over a full term.

  • A written coverage map against the specific syllabus code
  • Content taught in the order the school is teaching it
  • Practical-skills questions included from the first month
  • Short retrieval tasks between sessions, not long problem sets

Answer-technique clinics

For the student who knows the science and does not score it. The student answers past-paper questions independently, the tutor marks them against the published scheme, and the session covers only the gap between what was written and what the scheme wanted. Cheaper than teaching and faster in effect, because these errors repeat predictably.

  • Point-counting drilled on long biology answers
  • Balanced equations and state symbols checked as a routine
  • Physics working laid out so method marks survive a wrong answer
  • A running tally showing which error types recur

Audit and catch-up for a mid-year arrival

One session to establish what the previous school covered, topic by topic, against the specification and the new department's teaching order. The output is a prioritised list rather than a full re-teach, because a student arriving in Year 11 does not have time for everything and should not be sold it.

  • Audit before teaching, every time
  • Gaps ranked by when the class will need them
  • A written list the family and the school can both use
  • Honest about what will not be covered in the time available

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Dubai Internet City

01

What IGCSE science actually covers, discipline by discipline

  • Board, code, tier and award type between them decide the content
  • Each discipline's final topics are the ones most often taught late
  • Practical skills are examined in writing at most international centres
  • The content list does not tell you where the marks are going
  • Diagnosis comes from a marked script, not from a syllabus

Parents often ask what is on the syllabus, and the honest answer is that it depends on four things: the board, the code, the tier and whether the student is sitting separates, a double award or a combined award. Those four determine both the content and the paper structure. Cambridge separate sciences are Biology 0610, Chemistry 0620 and Physics 0625. Pearson's are 4BI1, 4CH1 and 4PH1. Cambridge 0654 is a co-ordinated double award and 0653 a combined single award; Pearson's double award is 4SD0.

Within that, the broad shape of each discipline is stable. Biology runs from cells and biological molecules through transport, respiration, photosynthesis and coordination, into genetics, inheritance, variation and ecology. Chemistry runs from particles, atomic structure and bonding through stoichiometry, energetics and rates into acids and bases, the periodic table, metals and organic chemistry. Physics runs from motion, forces and energy through thermal physics, waves, electricity and magnetism into atomic and nuclear physics. Each ends with material that is frequently taught late and therefore under-rehearsed.

The practical component is examined in writing at most international centres, through an alternative-to-practical paper rather than a laboratory test. That paper is examinable technique: reading an instrument to the correct precision, identifying variables, finding the flaw in a described method, building a results table with units, plotting and interpreting a graph, and suggesting an improvement that addresses the actual weakness. It is among the most trainable components in the whole qualification and among the most neglected.

What the content list does not tell you is where the marks go, which is why the next sections are organised around failure rather than around topics. A tutor who can recite the syllabus is less useful than one who can look at a marked script and say that your child is losing marks to point-counting in biology, equation balancing in chemistry and rearrangement in physics, in that order of size.

02

Biology: terminology, point-counting and the questions students answer too well

Biology at IGCSE is content-dense and language-sensitive. Marks attach to precise terms, and an approximation of a term scores nothing even when the understanding behind it is sound. A student who writes that something moves from high to low concentration has described diffusion without naming it; depending on the question, that may or may not score. The repair is vocabulary discipline rather than more reading, and it works best as a short routine at the start of each session rather than as a revision list.

The largest single recoverable loss in biology is point-counting. A six-mark question requires six distinct scoring points, and students regularly write three good points at length and assume thoroughness substitutes for coverage. The mechanical fix is to read the mark allocation first, plan that many separate points in the margin, and then write them. Two sessions of this on the student's own answers usually changes the habit, and the gain appears across every long-answer question rather than only in the topic being revised.

The third issue is the questions students answer too well. A two-mark question answered with a paragraph scores two marks and costs the time that the back of the paper needed. Biology papers are long, and students who over-write early run out of time for material they knew. Pacing in this subject is therefore a content question in disguise: the marks lost at the end of the paper are often the easiest on it.

The table maps the main topic areas to what is actually examined and the error we see most. Treat the right-hand column as a diagnostic. A student who recognises two of those in their own scripts has identified the next month of work without needing to review the whole syllabus.

IGCSE BIOLOGY: WHAT IS EXAMINED AND HOW MARKS ARE LOST

Cells and biological moleculesStructure to function reasoning, test proceduresNaming a structure without saying what it doesAlways pair the structure with its function in the answer
Transport and exchangeExplaining movement with the correct named processDescribing the movement without naming diffusion, osmosis or active transportA vocabulary routine at the start of each session
Respiration and photosynthesisWord equations, limiting factors, graph interpretationEquations written imprecisely or reactants reversedWrite both equations from memory weekly until automatic
Coordination and responseSequences of events in orderSteps given out of order, so the reasoning chain breaksNumber the steps in the margin before writing
Inheritance and variationGenetic diagrams, ratios, correct terminologyGenotype and phenotype used interchangeablyLabel every diagram fully, every time
Ecology and human influenceExtended answers with multiple distinct pointsFewer scoring points than the mark allocation requiredPlan the number of points before writing the answer
03

Chemistry: equations that balance, calculations with a chosen method, notation that counts

  • Balance every equation; check state symbols and charges as a habit
  • Mixed practice sets so the student chooses the method, not just applies it
  • Tests for gases and ions: observation then conclusion, in that order
  • Organic chemistry is small, late-taught and often under-revised
  • Units and significant figures treated as instructions, not preferences

Chemistry at this level is where notation first starts carrying marks, and students read notation as presentation. An unbalanced equation is wrong. A missing state symbol, where the question or the convention requires one, loses a mark. A charge omitted from an ion changes the species being described. None of this is unfair and all of it is mechanical, which is good news: mechanical habits survive examination pressure better than conceptual understanding does, and they take weeks rather than terms to establish.

The calculation issue is method selection rather than arithmetic. A student who can convert a mass to moles when told to, and does not recognise that a question requires it, has a selection problem. Teaching more worked examples does not help, because every worked example announces its own method. Mixed sets do help: questions in random order where the student has to decide the approach before applying it. A few weeks of that changes performance noticeably, and it is one of the cheapest interventions available in the subject.

The third area is the practical knowledge examined in writing: tests for gases and ions, separation techniques, how a titration is carried out and what makes a result reliable. These are facts and procedures rather than reasoning, and they are often the last thing revised. A student who can describe a test with its observation and conclusion, in that order, scores reliably on questions that others treat as recall lotteries.

Organic chemistry arrives late in most schemes of work and is consequently the least rehearsed part of the course. Homologous series, naming conventions and the basic reaction types are a small amount of content, and a student who covers them properly in the final term often finds the easiest marks on the paper sitting there. It is worth checking whether the class has actually finished it.

04

Physics: the algebra behind the grade

Physics is the IGCSE science where a strong student most often underperforms, and the cause is usually mathematical rather than scientific. Rearranging a formula when the unknown is in the denominator, handling standard form, converting between unit prefixes, and reading a gradient from a drawn line rather than from two plotted points: those four skills decide a large share of the marks. A student who is capable in biology and struggling in physics almost always has a specific algebra gap, and diagnosing it is worth more than a term of topic revision.

The second physics issue is working. Method marks are available on multi-step questions even when the final answer is wrong, and a student who writes only answers forfeits marks they had already earned. Teaching a student to set out the formula, the substitution and the result as three separate lines takes a fortnight and protects marks for the rest of their school career. It also makes their own errors findable, which is the beginning of self-correction.

The third is graph work, which is manual and therefore trainable. Choosing a scale that uses the grid, plotting accurately, drawing a line rather than joining dots, reading a gradient from the line, and quoting that gradient with units. Each is a mark somewhere in the paper and each improves with supervised practice far faster than with unsupervised practice, because the errors are invisible to the person making them.

The table maps the main formula families to where they appear and the specific error attached to each. It is intended for diagnosis rather than revision: find the row that describes your child's recurring mistake and you have found what next month should contain.

IGCSE PHYSICS: FORMULA FAMILIES AND THE ERROR ATTACHED TO EACH

05

Core or Extended: what the tier actually changes

Cambridge separate sciences are tiered into Core and Extended, and the two differ in content, in papers sat and in the grades available. Extended reaches the top of the scale; Core is capped. The decision is usually made by the department on set performance, and families frequently learn which tier their child is on when a mock timetable arrives. That timing is the problem, because a capped grade can quietly close a post-16 science route that the family assumed was open.

What changes with tier is not simply difficulty. The Extended content includes material the Core syllabus does not contain, so a Core student revising Extended material is doing unnecessary work, and an Extended student revising Core material is under-prepared for their paper. Confirming the tier is therefore as important as confirming the code, and the same single email to the examinations officer gets both.

Where a student is on Core and aiming at A Level or Diploma sciences afterwards, the conversation with the department belongs early in Year 10 while sets are still fluid. Ask what specifically would need to improve for an Extended entry to be considered, and treat that as the work plan. By the spring of Year 11 the entry is lodged and the question has changed into how to get the best possible outcome from the tier taken, which is a smaller and less hopeful conversation.

The table below sets out the practical consequences. Pearson's separate sciences are untiered, which removes this question entirely for those students but introduces a different one: whether the double award or separate route was taken, and what that implies for post-16 study.

TIER AND ROUTE: WHAT EACH CHOICE ACTUALLY DETERMINES

Cambridge and Pearson: the same science, different papers

  • Content overlaps heavily; paper style, tiering and calculator rules do not
  • Most international centres use the alternative-to-practical written route
  • Ask the school for the zone-correct Cambridge timetable and keep it
  • UAE candidates sit June and November; February and March is India-only
  • Pearson results have historically reached students in August and January

Schools in this corridor use both boards, sometimes across different subjects in the same year group, and the practical consequence for revision is larger than families expect. The science content overlaps heavily. The question wording, the paper structure, the calculator rules and the way practical knowledge is examined do not. A student revising on the wrong board's past papers is doing real work in a dialect that will not be spoken in the examination hall.

Cambridge separate sciences assess practical skills either through a practical test or an alternative-to-practical written paper, with most international centres using the written route. Pearson examines practical knowledge within its written papers. Cambridge's Core and Extended tiering has no Pearson equivalent in the separate sciences. These are not small distinctions when a student is deciding which hundred past-paper questions to attempt in the final six weeks.

There is one piece of Cambridge administration worth knowing as a parent. Every centre is allocated to one of six administrative zones, and Cambridge states that it is essential to use the correct version of the timetable for your zone, adding that it cannot accept responsibility for candidates who miss an examination after using the wrong zone timetable. A timetable found through an internet search is not a timetable. Ask the school for the zone-correct version and keep it.

On the series: Cambridge IGCSE runs in June and November, and Pearson Edexcel International GCSE runs in May/June and November. The Cambridge February and March series is offered to India only and has no bearing on a UAE entry, so a Dubai family should ignore any date attached to it. Pearson's published pattern gives a sense of the shape: the November 2026 final timetable ran from late October to 19 November 2026, June 2026 results reached centres on 19 August 2026 and students on 20 August 2026, and November 2025 results reached students on 22 January 2026.

A free-zone household: sessions planned around a working day

  • A fixed weekly slot that never needs reconfirming
  • Written notes and a recording after every session
  • 17:30 or later for students travelling back from Al Barsha or the Marina
  • Hard surface, squared paper, own calculator, headphones, camera on the page
  • Ramadan timetable agreed before the month, not improvised

The scheduling constraint in this district is the parent's working day rather than the school run alone. A family connected to Internet City typically has one or both parents in the free zone until the evening, and a student who gets home at five is unsupervised for the hour that matters. That shapes what the arrangement must provide: a fixed slot that does not need confirming each week, written notes after every session so the parent knows what happened, a record of work set, and a recording.

Journey times still matter. Students returning from Al Barsha or Jumeirah arrive home across the same hours the free zone empties, and Marina and JBR students arrive latest of all. A session booked before 17:30 for those students will eventually be rescheduled, and a rescheduled session in a content-heavy subject is a lost week rather than a lost hour. Because sessions run online there is no second journey, which is why blocks in this corridor tend to complete rather than fragment.

The student's end needs very little: a hard surface rather than a sofa, squared paper and a ruler for graph work, their own calculator rather than a phone, and headphones so a shared apartment is not part of the lesson. The camera is angled at the page, because in every science the diagnosis comes from watching the working appear. Setting this up once, properly, before the first session prevents most of the friction families anticipate.

Ramadan shifts the pattern for a few weeks and Dubai schools adjust their hours. We agree the revised timetable before the month begins, usually fewer and shorter sessions moved to the late morning or the post-Iftar window, with lighter work between them. Where a parent's own hours change during the month, the written notes carry more weight than usual and we write them with that in mind.

Permits, limits and the things worth verifying yourself

Private tutoring in the UAE is lawful and regulated by permit. The private tuition work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023 and is issued through MoHRE, granted free of charge for two years. Eligible applicants include teachers registered in government or private schools, government and private-sector employees, unemployed individuals, university students and school students aged 15 to 18. MoHRE's own service page lists no fee and a two-working-day completion time, and the application is made through its smart app, website and e-services system. Tutoring without a permit attracts fines and penalties under the applicable laws, and because no fine schedule is published, any specific amount you read should be treated as unverified.

IB Gram holds no approval, accreditation, licence or partnership from Cambridge, Pearson, the International Baccalaureate, KHDA, ADEK, SPEA or the Ministry of Education, and no page here will suggest otherwise. We have no office, centre or branch in the UAE. We do not enter candidates for examinations, we do not perform Ministry equivalency, and we do not provide home visits anywhere in the Emirates. Each of those sentences is here because a competitor in this market implies the opposite of it.

On materials: we reference and link official syllabus, specimen and timetable documents rather than reproducing them, and we do not supply board-owned papers, mark schemes or grade-boundary tables. Your child's school has legitimate access through its own subscriptions. On figures: every number on this page carries a source, and we publish no success rates, satisfaction scores or star ratings, because we could not produce the data behind any of them.

Worth verifying independently in every case: the syllabus codes and tier on the entry, with your school's examinations officer; the zone-correct examination timetable, from the same person; the school's inspection judgements on the regulator's own site rather than from a summary. Private schools in Dubai are overseen by KHDA, described on u.ae as responsible for enhancing and overseeing the quality of private education in the emirate; Abu Dhabi and Al Ain by ADEK; Sharjah by the Sharjah Private Education Authority; Ras Al Khaimah by its Department of Knowledge; and Ajman, Umm Al Quwain and Fujairah by the federal Ministry of Education.

Where we tutor

Where students connected to this free zone live and study

Internet City is a workplace district. The relevant map for a science enquiry is the residential and school belt around it, and how long each part of it takes to get home from.

Al Sufouh

The free zone's immediate surroundings, with long-established secondary schools. Short journeys mean this is one of the few nearby areas where a 17:00 session genuinely holds.

The Greens and The Views

Mid-rise apartment living favoured by free-zone families. Study space is a shared table rather than a desk, so headphones and a hard surface are part of the setup conversation.

Barsha Heights

Directly adjacent and formerly Tecom. Dense, walkable and close to several schools, which makes weekly consistency easier here than in the Marina.

Dubai Marina and JBR

The largest residential concentration in reach and the slowest afternoon. Science sessions for students here settle at 17:30 or later and stay there.

Al Barsha

Where a large share of the secondary provision used by this corridor sits, across both British-curriculum and IB-continuum schools.

Jumeirah Lake Towers

Across Sheikh Zayed Road and Metro-connected. Many parents here work in Internet City or Media City, so the household rhythm is the same even though the postcode differs.

Dubai Media City and Knowledge Park

The neighbouring free zones, functionally one district. Worth naming because the working day of the parent, not the school bell, is what sets the practical schedule.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in Dubai Internet City

Al Sufouh and Knowledge Park

The nearest secondary schools to the free zone, predominantly British curriculum with separate sciences in the higher sets. Science enquiries from this cluster are most often about physics algebra or biology answer technique rather than about missing content.

Al Barsha and the IB belt

A mix of IB continuum and British-curriculum provision. A single apartment building here can hold a triple-award student, a co-ordinated-sciences student and an MYP student, which is why the entry codes matter more than the school's name.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Get the code and the tier in one email

Ask the examinations officer which syllabus numbers appear on your child's science entry and which tier. That single answer settles how much content exists, which past papers are worth sitting and whether practical skills are examined by a test or a written paper. Every plan we build sits on top of it.

  2. 02

Send one marked paper per discipline

Three marked scripts take twenty minutes to read and show where the marks are actually going: point-counting in biology, equation balancing and method selection in chemistry, algebra and graph reading in physics. Without them, allocating weeks between three subjects is guesswork presented as a plan.

  3. 03

Free trial lesson in the weakest discipline

The first session is free and runs in whichever science the scripts put furthest behind, working through real questions rather than discussing services. A short written note follows naming the two priority topics and the recurring error types, and that note is yours whether or not you continue with us.

  4. 04

Fix the slot and the reporting

One weekly time in Gulf Standard Time, set after the return from school. Because the parent here is often still at work, we confirm in advance what arrives after each session: a note on what was covered, what was set, and what is next. That record is the part of the service families in this district value most.

  5. 05

    Re-mark at week four

A second paper is sat and marked at week four and the error tally compared with week one. If the pattern has not shifted, we change the approach or the tutor rather than defending either. If the diagnosis turns out to be maths rather than science, we say so, because a term of physics teaching will not repair an algebra gap.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

One discipline fixed properly beats three covered thinly

The weakest science is usually weak for a reason it shares with a second, most often algebra. Repairing that lifts two grades at once, which is a cheaper and more honest recommendation than three weekly sessions, and it is what the marked scripts normally support.

Tutors matched to a syllabus code, not to a subject name

Cambridge and Pearson examine the same science through different papers, and Core and Extended are different content. Matching online means selecting a tutor who teaches the exact code rather than whoever is nearby and willing, which for a student six weeks from a paper is the whole difference.

The practical paper is treated as technique

Precision reading, variable identification, table headings, flaw spotting and specific improvements are built into sessions from the first month. It is the component most often postponed to the final fortnight and one of the most reliably recoverable on the paper.

Designed for a parent who cannot be in the room

Written notes, recordings, a record of work set and a slot that never needs reconfirming. In a free-zone household the person arranging tutoring is usually at a desk when it happens, and the reporting is the service rather than an extra.

Figures carry their source

Where this page names a market rate, a school count or a regulatory rule, it says where the figure came from and when. We publish no success rates or satisfaction scores, because we could not show the data behind them and a number without a method is decoration.

Clear about what we are not

A tutor-matching platform with no board or regulator approval, no UAE premises and no home-visit service in the Emirates. Where this page names KHDA or MoHRE it is to explain what they do and point you to their own pages, never to borrow their standing.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Dubai Internet City: your questions answered

How much does IGCSE science tutoring cost for a family near Dubai Internet City?+

Published Dubai market rates put a qualified subject tutor working online at roughly AED 150-300 an hour and an IGCSE specialist at about AED 200-450 or more. Monthly figures from the Bestimate Dubai table run around AED 240-600 at the budget end and AED 600-1,200 in the mid band for one weekly subject. In-home visits are quoted at roughly AED 180-500 an hour because the journey is inside the fee. Across three sciences the multiplication is what makes most families fund one discipline properly. Those are market figures with sources, not our price list; we quote after the free trial.

Will a science tutor come to our apartment in The Greens or Barsha Heights?+

No. IB Gram does not offer home visits anywhere in the UAE; sending a tutor to a family address is a service we run only in India. Science sessions here are delivered one-to-one online over live video in Gulf Standard Time. In a free-zone household that is usually the better fit: the parent organising the tutoring is often still at work when the session runs, so a fixed slot, written notes and a recording are more useful than a doorbell, and no session is lost to the evening traffic out of Al Sufouh.

Which science should we start with if our child is behind in all three?+

Usually physics, and the reason is mathematical rather than scientific. Rearranging formulae, standard form, unit prefixes and reading gradients are maths skills examined in a physics paper, and the same weaknesses quietly damage chemistry calculations. Repairing them therefore improves two subjects. Biology is more often a terminology and point-counting problem, which a disciplined student can work on with less supervision once the method is taught. Send one marked paper per subject and we will tell you which single discipline gives the best return for the weeks you have.

How do I know whether my child is on Core or Extended tier?+

Ask the examinations officer, because the entry is the only reliable source. Cambridge separate sciences are tiered: Extended covers the core plus supplementary content and reaches the top grades, while Core covers less and is capped. The tier matters for revision as much as for outcome, since a Core student working through Extended material is doing unnecessary work and an Extended student revising only Core material is under-prepared. Pearson's separate sciences are untiered, which removes the question. Either way, get the codes and tier in the same email.

Does it matter whether the school uses Cambridge or Pearson for science?+

It matters for revision rather than for difficulty. The content overlaps heavily, but question wording, paper structure, calculator rules and the way practical knowledge is assessed all differ, and Cambridge's Core and Extended tiering has no Pearson equivalent in the separate sciences. A student practising on the wrong board's past papers is doing genuine work in a dialect that will not be spoken in the hall. Confirm the board and code before choosing which papers to attempt, particularly in the final six weeks when there is no time to waste.

Why does a six-mark biology answer score only three?+

Because it contained three distinct scoring points rather than six. Students read a six-mark question as an instruction to write thoroughly, and depth does not substitute for coverage. The mechanical fix is to read the allocation first, plan that number of separate points in the margin, then write them using the precise terminology rather than an approximation. Two sessions working on the student's own answers usually changes the habit, and the gain shows up on every long-answer question in the paper rather than only in the topic that was being revised.

My child understands physics but the grades do not show it. What is happening?+

Four things, usually. Rearranging a formula when the unknown sits in the denominator. Standard form on very large or very small values. Converting between unit prefixes. And reading a gradient from a drawn line rather than from two plotted points. Alongside those, students who write only answers forfeit the method marks available on multi-step questions even when their final figure is wrong. Setting out formula, substitution and result as three separate lines protects those marks, takes a fortnight to establish and makes the student's own errors findable.

How are practical skills examined if we never set foot in a laboratory with you?+

Laboratory work for school purposes happens at school under the school's supervision, and no tutor participates in it. What tutoring affects is the written assessment of practical skills, which most international centres sit as an alternative-to-practical paper. The question types are predictable: reading an instrument to the correct precision, identifying independent, dependent and controlled variables, spotting the flaw in a described method, completing a results table with headings and units, plotting and interpreting a graph, and suggesting an improvement that addresses the specific weakness described rather than a generic one.

We arrived in Dubai in the middle of Year 11. Is it too late?+

Not too late, and the approach has to change. We start with an audit rather than teaching: one session going through the specification topic by topic to establish what the previous school covered and to what depth, compared against the new department's teaching order. The output is a prioritised list, not a full re-teach, because there is not time for everything and nobody should sell you the idea that there is. We will say plainly which topics we expect to leave uncovered, which is the honest part of this conversation.

Can one tutor take all three sciences for a Year 11 student?+

Sometimes, and it is often not the best arrangement. Most strong science tutors teach two of the three disciplines well and are honest about the third. For a student in the final year, two specialists on two evenings with one shared written plan usually beats one generalist across three, because the difference between a capable explanation and an expert one is largest in the topics that are actually causing trouble. If we do not have a good match for a discipline we say so rather than stretching someone into it.

When are IGCSE science papers sat by candidates in the UAE?+

Cambridge IGCSE runs a June series and a November series; Pearson Edexcel International GCSE runs in May/June and November. Dubai centres usually enter the main Year 11 cohort for the summer window and treat November as the resit route. The Cambridge February and March series is offered to India only, so disregard any date attached to it. Ask the school for the zone-correct Cambridge timetable, because Cambridge allocates every centre to one of six administrative zones and states it cannot accept responsibility for candidates who miss an examination after using the wrong version.

Is a marking clinic enough, or does our child need weekly teaching?+

It depends on what the scripts say. A student who is working hard, understands the material and keeps landing in the same grade band usually needs marking rather than teaching: they sit papers independently, we mark line by line against the published scheme, and a shorter session covers only the error pattern. A student with genuine content gaps needs weekly teaching sequenced against the school's scheme of work. Many families do both, with weekly teaching in the weakest subject and clinics covering the two stronger ones, which keeps the cost proportionate.

What happens in the last two weeks before the science papers?+

Nothing new, by design. At that point the work with a positive return is eliminating errors the tally says are recurring, practising pacing, and settling the order in which the student will attempt each paper. Introducing a new topic in the final fortnight produces anxiety rather than marks, and it displaces revision of material the student half-knows, which is where the recoverable marks actually are. Students resist this rule and it is the one that most reliably protects a grade, so we agree it in advance rather than arguing about it at the time.

What if you cannot match a tutor for a specific science syllabus?+

We say so instead of filling the slot. Mainstream requests such as Extended 0610 or 4PH1 are matched quickly. Narrower ones, including 0653 Combined Science or centres using the practical test rather than the alternative-to-practical route, draw on a smaller group. The honest options are a different time, a short wait for the right tutor, or a marking clinic in the meantime so the weeks still produce something useful. We also tell you where a tutor is based before you book rather than after.

Three marked papers and two codes is all we need to start

Useful science planning starts with four facts: the board, the syllabus codes, the tier, and what a marked paper in each discipline says. From those we can tell you which single subject deserves the weeks, whether the real problem is algebra wearing a physics costume, and whether a marking clinic would do what weekly teaching is being bought for. Send them over and we will give you the honest version, including what we would not sell you. The trial lesson is free and happens in whichever science is furthest behind. Everything runs one-to-one, online, over live video, in Gulf Standard Time, with written notes waiting for whoever is still at the office.
