IGCSE Maths Tutor in Dubai Internet City

Hiring an IGCSE maths tutor in Dubai Internet City starts with one question almost nobody asks: which maths qualification is on the entry form? Cambridge 0580, Cambridge International Mathematics 0607 and Pearson 4MA1 are three different papers with three different mark-scheme habits. This page works through the topic map, how M and A marks are actually awarded, and the errors that cost grades. Lessons are one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time.

  • Matched to 0580, 0607 or 4MA1 and to the right tier, in that order
  • Marking taught as mechanics: M marks, A marks and follow-through credit
  • Topic-level error logs, not a generic revision checklist
  • Live online one-to-one, with the working saved and revisited each week

IB & IGCSE in Dubai Internet City

Three maths qualifications, two tiers, and one entry form that settles it

Maths is the subject Dubai Internet City families ask about first, and it is the subject where the wrong assumption costs the most. The assumption is that IGCSE maths is one thing. It is not. Schools in this cluster enter candidates for at least three different qualifications, and the differences are not cosmetic — they change the papers sat, the topics examined, whether a calculator is permitted and how the marks are awarded.

Cambridge IGCSE Mathematics 0580 is the most common. Two written papers, tiered into Core and Extended, with Core capping at grade C or 5 and Extended running the full range. Cambridge IGCSE International Mathematics 0607 is the one most parents have never heard of and some schools in this belt use, often as the pre-IB route; it includes an investigation paper and assumes a graphic display calculator rather than a scientific one. Pearson Edexcel International GCSE Mathematics Specification A, 4MA1, tiers into Foundation and Higher and has its own formula-sheet conventions and its own way of phrasing questions.

A tutor who has taught 0580 for a decade and is handed a 0607 candidate will be competent at the mathematics and wrong about the preparation. The investigation paper has no analogue in 0580. Conversely, a 0607 specialist put in front of a 4MA1 Higher candidate will not have drilled the particular phrasing Pearson favours. Mathematics does not change; the examination of it does, and the last eight weeks before a paper are all about the examination.

Then there is the thing almost no family is taught, which is how a maths paper is actually marked. A mark scheme awards method marks and accuracy marks separately, and it allows follow-through credit in defined circumstances. A student who understands that will write differently — more steps, clearly labelled, with the method visible even when the arithmetic has gone wrong. A student who does not will produce an elegant three-line answer with a slip in it and score zero on a question they could do. That is not a knowledge gap. It is a presentation habit, and it is worth a grade on its own in many scripts.

A practical note before the detail. IB Gram does not run home visits anywhere in the UAE; home visits are a service offered only in India. Maths for a family in Dubai Internet City is taught one-to-one over live video on a shared whiteboard, which suits this subject well — every line of working is preserved, a photographed attempt can be annotated live, and the match is made on the syllabus code rather than on who happens to live within reach of the Al Sufouh tram at six in the evening. For a tiered subject with three competing specifications in one school cluster, that is not a small distinction.

0580Ages 14-16 · Years 10-11

Cambridge IGCSE Mathematics

Two written papers of equal weight, tiered into Core and Extended. Core candidates are capped at grade C or 5; Extended candidates can reach A* or 9. The content spans number, algebra, coordinate geometry, mensuration, trigonometry, vectors and transformations, and probability and statistics. No coursework in the version most Dubai schools run, so every mark comes from timed written work.

Cambridge allocates each exam centre to one of six administrative zones, each with its own timetable, and states plainly that it cannot accept responsibility for a candidate who misses an exam after using the wrong version. A family near Internet City should take dates from their own school's exams officer, not from a UK revision site, because the zone matters more than the month.

0607Ages 14-16 · Years 10-11

Cambridge IGCSE International Mathematics

Used by a number of IB-pathway schools as preparation for the Diploma. Core and Extended tiers again, but the assessment includes an investigation paper, and a graphic display calculator is assumed rather than optional. Content overlaps 0580 substantially and diverges in emphasis: more function work, more use of technology, and a component that rewards exploring a problem rather than answering a question.

This is the quiet trap in this school cluster, because several schools near Al Sufouh and Emirates Hills run the IB Diploma and choose 0607 to feed it. A parent who hires a tutor for "IGCSE maths" and gets a 0580 specialist has bought competent help with no experience of the investigation paper, which is the component the student will find least familiar.

4MA1Ages 14-16 · Years 10-11

Pearson Edexcel International GCSE Mathematics A

Two written papers, tiered into Foundation and Higher. Higher-tier candidates meet surds, iterative methods, vector proof and more demanding algebraic manipulation. Pearson's mark schemes are notably generous towards correct working and unforgiving towards an answer with no supporting line, which makes method presentation the single highest-value habit to train on this specification.

Pearson's published record gives families a reliable sense of the lag between paper and result. The November 2026 final timetable ran from late October to 19 November 2026, and November 2025 results reached students on 22 January 2026. June 2026 results went to centres on 19 August 2026 and to students the next day. For the window ahead, read the live official timetable, since provisional versions are revised.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

IGCSE maths is one qualification made of eight or nine distinct topic areas, and marks concentrate unevenly across them. These are the areas Year 11 candidates in this cluster lose most on, with what the papers actually demand in each.

Number, ratio and standard form

Core and Extended

The lowest-risk marks on the paper and the ones most often thrown away. Percentage change in reverse, compound interest over a non-integer period, and standard form arithmetic without a calculator are the three places capable candidates drop easy marks through haste rather than ignorance.

Algebraic manipulation

Core and Extended

Expanding, factorising, rearranging and simplifying algebraic fractions. Extended and Higher candidates lose most here through sign errors carried into later parts, which is precisely the situation follow-through credit exists for — provided the method is visible on the page.

Equations, inequalities and simultaneous systems

Core and Extended

Quadratics by factorising, by formula and by completing the square, plus simultaneous equations with one linear and one non-linear. Candidates who memorise one method and meet a question that blocks it stall, so the fix is fluency across all three routes.

Functions, graphs and transformations

Extended and Higher only

Sketching, reading, and transforming curves. This is the single most reliable discriminator between a grade 7 and a grade 9 script. Students who can describe a transformation but not perform it in the correct order lose the composite-transformation marks every time.

Coordinate geometry

Core and Extended

Gradients, midpoints, parallel and perpendicular lines, and the equation of a line from varied starting information. Short, well-paid questions that reward a candidate who writes the general form down first instead of trying to see the answer.

Trigonometry and Pythagoras

Core and Extended

Right-angled work at Core, then sine and cosine rules, area of a triangle, bearings and three-dimensional problems at Extended. Three-dimensional trigonometry is where marks vanish, almost always because no diagram was drawn before the calculation began.

Mensuration and circle work

Core and Extended

Area, volume, surface area, arcs and sectors, and similar shapes with area and volume scale factors. The scale-factor questions are heavily examined and routinely answered with a linear factor where a squared or cubed one is needed.

Vectors and matrices

Extended and Higher

Column vector arithmetic, magnitude, and geometric proof using vectors. Vector proof asks a candidate to argue rather than calculate, which is unfamiliar at this level and therefore trainable in a small number of sessions.

Probability and statistics

Core and Extended

Tree diagrams, conditional probability, cumulative frequency, histograms with unequal class widths, and averages from grouped data. Histogram frequency density is the classic lost mark: candidates plot frequency and lose every subsequent mark on the question.

The investigation paper (0607 only)

Extended

Unique to Cambridge International Mathematics. The candidate explores a situation, finds a pattern, generalises it and comments on it. It rewards persistence and clear communication rather than recall, and it cannot be prepared for from a 0580 revision guide.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three ways maths support is used by families in this belt, each delivered one-to-one over live video, because online is the only format IB Gram operates in the UAE.

Weekly consolidation through Year 10

A single weekly session running a week behind the school's topic sequence, so the tutor is firming up what has just been taught. Year 10 is where algebraic debts are cheap to clear; the same gap found in March of Year 11 costs three times as much work. This is the format for a student coping without confidence.

  • 60 or 90 minutes, same slot each week
  • Worked from the school's own scheme, not a generic order
  • A short problem set between sessions, marked with method credit shown
  • A written tier recommendation before the entry deadline

Mark-scheme and technique block

Six to ten weeks on how the paper is marked rather than on new content. Students learn to write method so it earns M marks, to check whether an answer is sensible before moving on, and to allocate minutes by marks. This is where a candidate scoring two grades below their ability makes the ground up.

  • Full papers sat to the clock, then marked line by line against the official scheme
  • M marks, A marks and follow-through explained with real scripts
  • Minute-per-mark discipline drilled with a stopwatch
  • Error log kept by cause, reviewed every third session

Single-topic repair

Two to four sessions on one topic that has become a blockage — histograms, transformations, vector proof, three-dimensional trigonometry. A diagnostic question set at the start, the same set re-sat at the end to prove the repair held, then a clear stop. Often this is the whole of what a student needs.

  • Diagnostic first, so the real gap is located rather than guessed
  • Two to four sessions with a defined endpoint
  • Re-test on the same questions to confirm the fix
  • No pressure to convert into a standing weekly booking

0607 investigation-paper preparation

A separate strand for candidates on Cambridge International Mathematics, because the investigation paper has no equivalent in 0580 or 4MA1. The work is about exploring a situation methodically, spotting and generalising a pattern, and writing the reasoning clearly enough for a marker to follow it.

  • Whole investigations attempted, then reviewed for structure
  • Pattern-to-generalisation reasoning practised explicitly
  • Graphic display calculator used the way the paper assumes
  • Communication treated as a marked skill, not a flourish

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Dubai Internet City

01

Finding out which IGCSE maths your child is sitting

This takes one message to the exams officer and it should happen before any tutor is hired. The statement of entry names the qualification and the tier, and that pair determines the whole preparation. Families in this cluster are more likely than most to be caught out, because the IB-pathway schools nearby commonly choose Cambridge International Mathematics 0607 rather than the more familiar 0580.

The differences are substantial enough to matter. 0580 and 4MA1 are two-paper qualifications with no investigative component. 0607 includes an investigation paper and assumes a graphic display calculator throughout, which changes both the content emphasis and the equipment a student needs to be fluent with. A candidate who arrives at that paper having revised from 0580 material is meeting the format for the first time in the exam hall.

Tier is the second half of the answer and carries the grade ceiling. Cambridge Core caps at grade C or 5. Cambridge Extended and Pearson Higher run the full range. The tier is usually fixed during Year 10 and becomes difficult to change once the final entry deadline passes, which is months before the paper rather than weeks.

There is a third question worth adding while you have the officer's attention: whether the school is also entering your child for Cambridge Additional Mathematics 0606, which some schools in this belt run alongside 0580 for strong candidates. It is a separate qualification with its own preparation, and it frequently goes unmentioned at home until a paper appears on the timetable.

The table below is the ten-minute version. Take it to the exams officer, get the answers, and every subsequent decision about tutoring becomes straightforward rather than speculative.

How a maths paper is actually marked, and why it changes how you write

Very few students in this cluster have ever been shown a real mark scheme, and it is the single most useful hour a tutor can spend. A maths mark scheme does not award marks for correct answers alone. It separates method marks, awarded for a valid approach regardless of arithmetic, from accuracy marks, awarded for the correct value. It also permits follow-through credit, where a candidate who makes one error and then handles the rest of the question correctly still earns the later marks.

The consequence is concrete and immediate. A student who writes three lines and reaches a wrong answer scores nothing. A student who writes eight lines showing the same approach and reaches the same wrong answer, because of one slip in line four, earns the method marks and often the follow-through accuracy marks as well. On a 100-mark paper that distinction routinely moves a grade, and it has nothing whatsoever to do with how much maths the student knows.

This is why strong mental mathematicians often underperform at IGCSE. They have been rewarded all their lives for getting there quickly, and the examination rewards getting there visibly. Changing that habit is uncomfortable for about three weeks and then it holds, and it is the most reliable return available in this subject.

Pearson 4MA1 rewards this behaviour particularly strongly, which is worth knowing if that is the specification on the entry form. The table sets out the mark types and what a candidate has to do to earn each one, which is the version a Year 11 can actually act on.

MARK TYPES ON AN IGCSE MATHS PAPER, AND HOW TO EARN THEM

M — methodA valid approach, even with wrong arithmeticWorking done mentally and not written downWrite the general form or formula before substituting
A — accuracyThe correct value, correctly roundedPremature rounding in an intermediate stepKeep full accuracy until the final line
B — independentA correct statement or value not dependent on methodSkipping the short part because it looks trivialAnswer every part, including the one-markers

Units and formCorrect units, correct degree of accuracyAnswer left as a decimal where a fraction is asked forRe-read what form the question asked for
03

The seven ways marks leave an IGCSE maths script

  • Method not written down, so one slip takes every mark on the question
  • Premature rounding in intermediate steps
  • Answer given in the wrong form — decimal where exact was asked
  • Linear scale factor used for an area or a volume
  • Frequency plotted instead of frequency density on a histogram
  • No diagram drawn before a bearings or three-dimensional calculation
  • Minutes spent unevenly, so the final page is blank

After enough marked papers the list stops being mysterious. Almost nothing on it is content the student has never met, which is why a diagnosis based on scores alone is so misleading: two candidates on 58 per cent can need entirely different interventions.

In rough order of how much they cost: method not written down, so a slip takes the whole question. Premature rounding, which quietly loses accuracy marks on otherwise perfect work. Misread form, where a question asks for an exact answer or a fraction and receives a rounded decimal. Scale factors applied linearly to areas or volumes. Histogram frequency plotted instead of frequency density. No diagram drawn for a three-dimensional trigonometry or bearings question. And uneven timing, which leaves the last page blank.

The useful move is to count them. Mark two full papers, classify every single lost mark into one of those seven categories, and then look at the totals. A student losing 19 marks to timing and rounding and 5 to content does not need more content taught, and treating every low score as a knowledge problem is the most expensive mistake families in this market make, partly because it feels like diligence.

Once the counts exist, the next six weeks write themselves. The largest category gets attacked first, the error log is updated after every marked paper, and when a category stops appearing it stops getting hours. That is a plan built on evidence rather than on a syllabus checklist.

04

Core or Extended: the decision that sets the ceiling

The tier decision is made during Year 10, usually by the school with the family consulted, and it is more consequential than any amount of revision that follows. Cambridge Core caps at grade C or 5. Extended runs to A* or 9. Pearson 4MA1 Foundation and Higher work the same way. Once the final entry deadline passes, changing becomes an administrative problem rather than a choice.

Both errors are common and both are costly. Entering a struggling candidate for Extended in hope produces a low Extended grade rather than a high Core one, and it also means two years of lessons pitched above the student's reach, which does real damage to confidence. Entering a capable candidate for Core removes the grades a competitive sixth form wants to see, and no amount of effort in Year 11 can lift a capped result.

The decision should rest on evidence. Sit a past paper at each tier under timed conditions and mark both against the official scheme. The pattern is usually unambiguous: a candidate comfortably above the Core ceiling on the Core paper and scoring in the middle bands on the Extended one belongs on Extended, and a candidate struggling on Core does not improve by being moved up.

There is also a forward question. Extended or Higher at grade 7 and above is what most sixth forms in this cluster want before admitting a student to A Level Mathematics, Analysis and Approaches at Higher Level, or any engineering-facing route. If that is the destination, the tier conversation is really a Year 12 conversation held two years early.

What the travel premium buys, and whether it is worth it

Most cost discussions in this market start with the cheapest option. Start instead with the most expensive line and ask what the extra money is actually purchasing, because that is the question a family in Internet City is really weighing. The in-home band in Dubai is quoted at AED 180 to 350 by Bestimate's rate table, with independent home tutors asking AED 200 to 500. A qualified tutor working online sits at roughly AED 150 to 300, with Unitors publishing IGCSE from AED 150.

So the premium for a visit is real but moderate at the bottom of the band and substantial at the top. What it buys is a person in the room. That is worth paying for if your child genuinely will not engage with a screen — some will not, and it is better to know that than to argue with it. What it does not buy is a better mathematician, and it comes with two costs that are easy to miss. The tutor's travel time has to be recovered from somewhere, usually from the hourly rate and from the slots they are willing to offer. And the pool shrinks to whoever lives nearby.

Monthly, Bestimate estimates a weekly one-hour session at AED 240 to 600 at the budget end, AED 600 to 1,200 mid-market, and AED 1,000 to 2,000 or more for specialist exam-year support. Packages circulating in this market include around AED 799 a month for eight online sessions and AED 1,599 to 1,799 for four two-hour in-home visits. At the budget end of the market, EdFlik publishes from AED 45 to 65 and Tutopiya from AED 33 to 52, typically university-student tutors; TutorChase publishes AED 270 for specialist work and BartyED AED 650 at the top.

None of those are IB Gram's prices — they are market figures attributed to the providers who published them, so you can check each one. For a specific quote in your child's tier and specification, the route is the free trial lesson and the conversation after it.

Why a screen works for a subject done with a pen

The intuition runs the other way, so it is worth being specific. Maths is the subject where online teaching loses least and gains most, because the artefact that matters is the working, and a shared digital whiteboard preserves it. Three weeks later the student can scroll back to the line where they first went wrong on a quadratic, and so can the tutor.

Marking works better too. A student photographs a handwritten attempt, the image goes on the shared board, and the tutor annotates it live, marking method and accuracy separately exactly as a mark scheme would. That is a far more useful exercise than handing a page back with a score on it, and it is awkward to do well across a dining table.

Graph work is the third gain. Dragging a coefficient and watching a parabola move, while the tutor explains which transformation is happening and in what order, explains composite transformations better than any static diagram. For a 0607 candidate with a graphic display calculator, the screen can be shared directly, which means inefficient keystroke habits become visible and fixable in minutes.

The honest limit is attention. A student who will not sit with a screen, or who has nowhere quiet in a shared tower apartment, does better with someone present. IB Gram does not offer home visits in the UAE, so if that is your child, a local in-home tutor is the right recommendation and it will be given rather than argued around.

Counting backwards to the maths paper

No competitor page in this cluster publishes a calendar, which is strange, because the decisions a parent can still influence are all clustered early. By the time revision feels urgent, the tier is fixed and the entry is made. The useful question is not what to do in May; it is what should already have been done by each point before it.

The fixed points for UAE candidates are the Cambridge June series and November series, and the Pearson May/June and November windows. The Cambridge February/March series is offered to India only and is not available to candidates sitting in Dubai, which matters because a large amount of online revision material is written around it. Cambridge publishes a separate timetable for each of six administrative zones and is explicit that using the wrong one is the candidate's risk, so the correct window comes from your school's exams officer.

Dates already past can be stated with confidence because they are checkable. Pearson's November 2026 final timetable ran from late October to 19 November 2026; November 2025 results reached students on 22 January 2026; June 2026 results went to centres on 19 August 2026 and to students on 20 August 2026. For the series ahead, read the live official timetable rather than a restated version, because provisional timetables get revised.

The November series is also the resit route, which is worth understanding before results arrive rather than after. A candidate who misses a target grade in June can re-sit in November, and the decision about whether that is sensible depends on how far short they fell and on what the sixth form actually requires.

Where IGCSE maths has to get your child to next

A maths grade at 16 is a gateway rather than an endpoint, and in this school cluster the gates are unusually varied, because sixth forms within a few kilometres of Internet City offer A Level, the IB Diploma, or both. What the grade needs to be depends on which door the student intends to walk through.

A Level Mathematics typically wants a grade 7 or above at Extended or Higher tier, and A Level Further Mathematics wants more. Analysis and Approaches at Higher Level in the Diploma is the equivalent ask, and students arriving there from IGCSE Extended usually find the algebra fluent and the calculus and proof entirely new, which is a content gap and a manageable one. Applications and Interpretation is more forgiving on algebra and less forgiving on interpretation.

Cambridge Additional Mathematics 0606, taken alongside 0580 by strong candidates in some schools here, is a genuinely useful bridge: it introduces calculus and more demanding algebra a year early and makes the first term of either post-16 route noticeably easier. It is not a replacement for 0580 and it is not necessary, but for a student certain about a maths-facing route it earns its hours.

The planning point is simple and almost always acted on too late. Work backwards from the intended sixth-form course to the tier decision in Year 10, not forwards from results in August. A family that does this has options; a family that does not finds out in results week that one has closed.

09

Academic honesty and materials in a maths context

  • A tutor teaches the skill, models it elsewhere, and marks the student's own attempt
  • No investigative or coursework text is written or supplied for submission
  • Official papers and mark schemes are referenced and linked, never redistributed
  • Marking a student's own script against the real scheme is the highest-value activity available

Maths at IGCSE has less coursework exposure than the essay subjects, but two honesty questions still arise and both deserve a plain answer. The first concerns the small number of specifications that retain coursework or an investigative component, Cambridge International Mathematics 0607 among them. The second concerns materials.

On assessed work the boundary is firm. A tutor may teach the skill the task assesses, model the method on a different problem, explain the criteria, and give feedback on what the student has already produced. A tutor may not write it, redraft it to completion, or supply text or results for submission. For an investigation this matters more than for a written paper, because the work is produced out of sight and the student is the one who carries the consequence if it is not their own.

On materials, the boards hold copyright in syllabus documents, past papers, mark schemes and grade-boundary tables. A tutor should work from the official source on the board's own site, or through the school's access, and should not be distributing reproduced packs to families. Any tutor offering you a bundle of board material is telling you something about how they operate generally.

The practical version of all this is reassuring rather than restrictive. The most valuable thing a maths tutor does is mark a student's own attempt against the real scheme and explain each decision. That is both entirely legitimate and considerably more useful than a worked solution handed over.

10

Starting, and the honest version of availability

Three facts make the first conversation useful: the qualification code, the tier, and the most recent marked paper with its real score and the script if possible. The script matters more than the score, because a mark of 58 tells you nothing about whether the problem is content, method presentation, rounding or the clock.

The trial lesson is free and should begin with a question from the correct specification rather than with a discussion of goals. Watching a Year 11 attempt a real question for ten minutes is more diagnostic than half an hour of conversation, and it tells you whether the two of them can work together, which no amount of credentials will.

On availability, the honest position. For 0580 and 4MA1 at either tier, a specialist on Gulf Standard Time is usually available within a few days. For 0607 with the investigation paper as the target, in a crowded evening slot, in the weeks before the June series, there may be a wait, or the only available specialist may be working from outside the UAE on the same time zone. Which of those applies is said before booking rather than discovered afterwards. No competitor page found in this market states a coverage limit at all.

And sometimes the right answer is less. Four sessions on histograms and transformations, a re-test, and a stop. That recommendation will be made where it fits, because a platform unable to suggest buying less than it sells is not giving advice.

Where we tutor

Nearby areas we cover around Dubai Internet City

Dubai Internet City sits within a compact belt of New Dubai communities sharing the same school cluster. For a subject done on paper with a pen, what varies between these areas is less about space and more about when a Year 11 can realistically sit down.

Dubai Internet City

Residential towers woven through free-zone offices. Parents on the campuses nearby often finish between 18:00 and 19:00, which makes 19:30 the busiest requested weekday start for Year 11 maths in this belt.

Dubai Knowledge Park

Next door and on the same tram stops. Enquiries from here often arrive already knowing the syllabus code, which is unusual and makes the first conversation considerably more productive.

Al Sufouh

Several long-established British-curriculum schools sit along Al Sufouh Road. A Year 11 finishing at 15:00 may not be at a desk before 16:15 once the school run clears, which rules out the early slot.

Dubai Marina

High-density towers where the study space is often a corner of the living room. Maths tolerates that better than essay subjects, provided there is room for squared paper, a calculator and a propped-up screen.

JBR

A tram stop or two away. JBR families book weekend morning maths sessions more than any other community in this cluster, especially in the spring before the June series.

JLT

On the far side of Sheikh Zayed Road. The crossing costs fifteen to twenty-five minutes each way at peak, which over a two-year course is a large amount of time bought back by not travelling.

The Greens and The Views

Quieter low-rise apartments with a calmer evening. Families here frequently run two children back to back, 17:00 and 18:15, which depends on nobody having to arrive from anywhere.

Emirates Hills and The Meadows

Villa communities feeding the same Year 11 cohorts. Space is plentiful; what is scarce is an Extended-tier specialist free at the hour a teenager is actually alert.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in Dubai Internet City

Internet City, Knowledge Park and Al Sufouh

The schools closest to the free zone. Between them they run all three maths qualifications discussed here, which is exactly why the code question matters so much in this particular belt of Dubai.

  • GEMS Wellington International School
  • Dubai College
  • Emirates International School Jumeirah
  • American School of Dubai
  • Dubai American Academy

Marina, Emirates Hills and the Lakes belt

The wider catchment reachable from Internet City in half an hour off peak. Schools running the IB Diploma here are the ones most likely to have chosen Cambridge International Mathematics rather than 0580.

  • Dubai British School Emirates Hills
  • Emirates International School Meadows
  • Regent International School
  • Dubai Heights Academy
  • Victory Heights Primary School

Schools are named only as context for the cluster around Dubai Internet City. No affiliation, partnership or endorsement is implied, and IB Gram has no relationship with any of them.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Get the code and the tier

One message to the exams officer returns the qualification and the tier. In this cluster that is a genuinely consequential question, because the IB-pathway schools nearby often run Cambridge International Mathematics 0607 rather than the 0580 most tutors assume.

  2. 02

Send the script, not just the score

The last marked paper with the working visible is worth more than a percentage. It shows whether the marks went to content gaps, invisible method, premature rounding or the clock, and those four lead to four different programmes.

  3. 03

Diagnostic question in the free trial

The first session opens with a real question from the correct specification, attempted live. The tutor watches where the hesitation falls and gives you a written read of what it showed, including whether tutoring is the right purchase at all.

  4. 04

    Match on the specification

A tutor is proposed for the exact qualification and tier, with their background stated. Where no 0607 investigation specialist is free in your slot, that is said before a booking is taken rather than filled with the nearest available substitute.

  5. 05

Weekly work, marked like a paper

Set work comes back marked with method and accuracy separated, the way a real scheme marks it, including credit the student assumed was lost. Every marked piece updates the error log, and the log drives what the next session contains.

  6. 06

    Finish and say so

When the category that was costing marks stops appearing in the log, that strand ends. For some students the whole engagement is four sessions on two topics, and that gets recommended rather than extended into a standing booking.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

The code question asked first

Cambridge 0580, Cambridge International Mathematics 0607 and Pearson 4MA1 are three qualifications, and this school cluster uses all three. Matching on the specification before anything else prevents the commonest and most expensive error in this market.

Mark schemes taught, not just used

Students are shown how M marks, A marks and follow-through credit actually work, and then taught to write so they earn them. For a strong mental mathematician this single change is often worth a grade, and it costs about three weeks of discomfort.

Diagnosis by cause, not by score

Every lost mark is classified — method invisible, premature rounding, wrong form, linear scale factor, no diagram, timing — and the counts decide the plan. Two students on the same percentage usually need entirely different work.

Prices published with their sources

The AED figures here are attributed to the providers who published them and framed as market rates rather than ours. Most pages competing for this search either publish nothing or quote in dollars, which is no use to a family paying in dirhams.

Online, with the reason given

IB Gram does not run home visits in the UAE; that service exists only in India. For maths the format is a real advantage — working preserved, scripts annotated live, graphs manipulated on screen — and the argument rests on that rather than on availability.

Willing to recommend less

Where a student needs two topics repaired and nothing else, the recommendation is two topics and a stop. The error log makes that call evidence-based rather than a judgement, which is what makes it possible to say out loud.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Dubai Internet City: your questions answered

Is Cambridge 0607 really different enough from 0580 to need a different tutor?+

Different enough to matter in the last two months, yes. Cambridge IGCSE International Mathematics 0607 includes an investigation paper that has no equivalent in 0580, assumes a graphic display calculator rather than a scientific one, and places heavier weight on function work. The underlying mathematics overlaps substantially, so a good 0580 teacher will handle the content. What they may not have is experience of preparing a candidate for an investigative component, which is the part your child will find least familiar. Several IB-pathway schools near Al Sufouh use 0607, so check the entry rather than assuming.

What are M marks and A marks, and why does my child keep scoring zero on questions they can do?+

Because the marks are awarded for visible method as well as for the right answer. M marks reward a valid approach regardless of arithmetic; A marks reward the correct value; follow-through credit rewards correct later work built on an earlier slip. A student who writes three lines and makes one error scores nothing. The same student writing eight labelled lines earns the method marks and often the follow-through marks too. Strong mental mathematicians suffer most from this, because speed has always been rewarded and the examination rewards visibility instead.

Which IGCSE maths topics do Year 11 candidates in this part of Dubai lose most on?+

Functions and transformations first, which is the reliable discriminator between a grade 7 and a grade 9 script, particularly composite transformations performed in the wrong order. Then histograms with unequal class widths, where candidates plot frequency instead of frequency density and lose every subsequent mark. Then similar shapes, where a linear scale factor gets applied to an area or a volume. Then three-dimensional trigonometry and bearings, almost always because no diagram was drawn first. Vector proof comes next, because arguing rather than calculating is unfamiliar at this level.

How do we decide between Core and Extended tier for maths?+

On two marked papers, not on optimism. Sit a Core paper and an Extended paper under timed conditions and mark both against the official scheme. A candidate comfortably above the Core ceiling on Core and landing in the middle bands on Extended belongs on Extended. A candidate struggling on Core does not improve by being moved up; they get a low Extended grade and two years of lessons pitched out of reach. Remember the ceiling: Core caps at grade C or 5, and most sixth forms in this cluster want a 7 at Extended before A Level Mathematics.

Does premature rounding really cost marks on a calculator paper?+

Regularly, and it is one of the cheapest errors to eliminate. Mark schemes award accuracy marks for a correctly rounded final answer, and they expect intermediate values to be carried at full accuracy. A candidate who rounds a trigonometric value to three figures in the middle of a multi-step problem can arrive at a final answer that falls outside the accepted range, losing the accuracy mark on work that was entirely correct. The habit to train is simple: store intermediate values in the calculator, round once, at the end, and only to the accuracy the question asks for.

Why is there no maths tutor who can come to our building in Internet City?+

Because IB Gram does not run home visits anywhere in the UAE — that is an India-only service. Maths here is taught one-to-one over live video on a shared whiteboard, which for this subject is a genuine advantage: every line of working is preserved and can be revisited weeks later, a photographed handwritten attempt can be annotated live the way a marker would, and graphs can be manipulated on screen while the tutor explains. It also means the match is made on the specification and tier rather than on whoever happens to live within a short drive.

What does a qualified IGCSE maths tutor charge per hour in Dubai?+

Read it from the top down. Independent home tutors in Dubai ask AED 200 to 500, and Bestimate's rate table puts in-home one-to-one at AED 180 to 350, with travel priced into the hour. A qualified tutor working online sits lower, at roughly AED 150 to 300, with Unitors publishing IGCSE from AED 150. Specialist IGCSE and A Level work runs AED 200 to 450 and above; TutorChase publishes AED 270. Budget online tuition is published from AED 45 to 65 by EdFlik and AED 33 to 52 by Tutopiya. Those are market figures, attributed, not IB Gram's prices.

Is a visiting tutor worth the extra money for maths specifically?+

It buys a person in the room, which matters a great deal for some students and not at all for others. What it does not buy is better mathematics, and it carries two hidden costs: the tutor's travel has to be recovered from the hourly rate and from the slots they will offer, and the pool shrinks to whoever lives nearby. For a subject where the working is the lesson, a shared whiteboard that saves every line is arguably the better tool. If your child genuinely will not engage with a screen, pay the premium — that is a real reason.

My child finishes school at three and is useless by five. When can sessions actually happen?+

Later than most in-home tutors want to work, which is one of the practical arguments for the online format in this belt. A Year 11 finishing at 15:00 on Al Sufouh Road often is not settled at a desk until 16:15 once the school run clears, and attention is poor between then and dinner. The most-requested weekday slot from Internet City and Knowledge Park is 19:30, after parents working on the nearby campuses are home. Because nobody is travelling, that slot can be held week after week rather than lost to a family who live closer to the tutor.

When are the maths papers, and is there a February sitting we should plan around?+

There is no February or March sitting available to candidates in Dubai. Cambridge offers its February/March series to India only; UAE candidates sit the June series and the November series. Pearson Edexcel International GCSE runs May/June and November. Cambridge also allocates every centre to one of six administrative zones with a separate timetable for each, and states that it cannot accept responsibility for a candidate who misses an exam after using the wrong version, so take the window from your school's exams officer rather than from a revision site written for another country.

Can my child re-sit maths in November if June does not go well?+

Yes — November is the resit route for Cambridge, and Pearson also runs a November series. Whether it is the right move depends on two things: how far short the grade fell, and what the sixth form actually requires. A candidate one grade below a 7 with a clear technique-based loss pattern is a strong resit case, because that gap is recoverable in a focused block. A candidate several grades short with broad content gaps may be better advised to take a different route. Decide on the marked script, not on the headline grade.

What grade does my child need for A Level Maths or Analysis and Approaches?+

Most sixth forms in this cluster want a grade 7 or above at Extended or Higher tier for A Level Mathematics, with more for Further Mathematics, and the equivalent ask applies for Analysis and Approaches at Higher Level in the Diploma. Requirements vary by school, so confirm with the specific sixth form rather than relying on a general rule. The planning consequence is the point: that requirement makes the Year 10 tier decision a sixth-form decision taken two years early, and families who work backwards from the destination keep their options open.

Is Cambridge Additional Mathematics 0606 worth taking alongside 0580?+

For a student certain about a maths-facing route, it earns its hours. 0606 introduces calculus and more demanding algebraic work a year early, which makes the first term of A Level Mathematics or Analysis and Approaches at Higher Level noticeably less of a shock. It is not a replacement for 0580 and it is not required by anyone. For a student still deciding, or already stretched across nine subjects, it is an avoidable extra load. The honest test is whether the student finds Extended 0580 comfortable rather than survivable.

Will a tutor give us worked solutions and past paper packs to work through?+

A tutor will point you to the official source and work from it, and will mark your child's own attempts, but will not hand over reproduced packs. Syllabus documents, past papers, mark schemes and grade-boundary tables are the exam boards' copyright and should be accessed through the board's own site or through your school. More importantly, a worked solution handed over teaches considerably less than the same question marked line by line against the real scheme, with each method and accuracy decision explained. That marking is the thing worth paying for.

One session a week or two, for a candidate heading into the mocks?+

One, in most cases, at 60 or 90 minutes, with set work marked properly in between. A single weekly session that consolidates what the school has just taught achieves more than two sessions covering the same ground twice over. Two a week makes sense in two situations: a Year 11 with a substantial algebraic debt to clear before the mocks, and a candidate running separate strands for content and paper technique in the final term. Starting at two as a precaution usually produces a tired student and a plan nobody follows past week five.

If the specialist we need is not free at our time, will somebody tell us?+

Before you book, yes. For Cambridge 0580 and Pearson 4MA1 at either tier, a specialist on Gulf Standard Time is usually available within a few days. For Cambridge International Mathematics 0607 with the investigation paper as the target, in a crowded evening slot, in the weeks before the June series, there may be a wait, or the only available specialist may be working from outside the UAE on the same time zone. Which applies is stated in advance. No competitor page found in this market discloses a coverage limit at all.

One message to the exams officer, then a plan

Before you hire anybody, send one message to your child's exams officer and ask two things: which maths qualification is on the entry, and which tier. With 0580, 0607 or 4MA1 and the tier in hand, plus the last marked script, a sensible eight-week plan takes a quarter of an hour to build and rests on evidence rather than guesswork. Lessons run one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time, with the working saved on a shared board so that nothing is lost between weeks. The first lesson is free, it starts with a real question from the right specification, and if the answer turns out to be four sessions on two topics, that is what you will be told.
