IB Physics Tutor in Dubai Internet City

Families hunting for an IB physics tutor in Dubai Internet City often wonder whether the search would go better from Media City, Knowledge Park or inland in Barsha Heights. It is a fair question and the answer is short: the school gates and the evening drive change, the physics does not. This page runs the comparison properly, then sets out what Higher Level actually adds and how one-to-one lessons over live video in Gulf Standard Time widen the pool.

IB & IGCSE in Dubai Internet City

The comparison families on this strip keep running

Dubai Internet City is a free zone in Al Sufouh with the Red Line Metro station serving this strip, offices and innovation space, residential towers and no school. Next door seaward sits Dubai Media City with the tram stop; next along is Dubai Knowledge Park with its university campuses; inland across the Metro line is Barsha Heights. Four districts in a row, none with a school in it except by accident of boundary, and all four generating the same physics requests.

The question we get asked is whether any of this matters. It does, but less than families expect and in a narrower way. Barsha Heights children are closer to the Al Barsha cluster and get home earlier, which makes a 5pm session genuinely workable. Knowledge Park skews to older students, so more DP2 and fewer DP1 requests. Internet City and Media City are effectively interchangeable. What does not vary anywhere on the strip is the physics: the same syllabus, the same papers, the same data booklet, the same investigation marked out of 24.

Nor does the tutor pool vary. Physics is a narrower request than mathematics, and Higher Level physics is narrower still. The IB holds roughly 7 per cent of Dubai private school enrolment according to KHDA's 2024-25 figures, which record 387,441 students across 227 private schools licensed for 17 curricula, with the UK curriculum at 37 per cent, Indian schools 26 per cent and American schools 14 per cent. Divide the IB share across three programmes, six subject groups and two levels and the number of Higher Level physics specialists within any drive of Al Sufouh is not a pool, it is a handful.

So the comparison, done honestly, points at the same conclusion from all four addresses: choose on level and on diagnosis, not on distance. The level matters because Higher Level physics raises the reasoning demand across every component rather than simply adding chapters. The diagnosis matters because physics requests arrive described as the subject being hard and resolve into one of three specific failures, each with a different remedy.

This page therefore does two things. It runs the district comparison properly, because nobody else publishes it and families here deserve a straight answer. Then it goes into the physics: what the Higher Level extension is, the three failure modes in order of cost, how the data booklet and calculator rules shape revision, and the particular problem of an investigation designed from an apartment rather than a villa.

On delivery: IB Gram does not send tutors to homes anywhere in the UAE; home visits are a service we run only in India. Lessons run one-to-one over live video in Gulf Standard Time, usually between 4.30pm and 9pm. Physics travels well over a screen, because the work is a shared graph, a numerical solution built line by line and a past-paper answer annotated live.

Physics appears in a different form in each programme this strip's schools run. The programme, not the district, decides what support should look like.

DPAges 16-19 · DP1 and DP2

Diploma Physics

Offered at Higher and Standard Level, assessed by written components plus a single internally assessed investigation marked out of 24 and moderated externally. A data booklet is provided in the examination, which means the examined skill is selecting and applying a supplied relationship rather than recalling it.

UAE IB schools sit the May session, with November as the second sitting used mainly for retakes. Specific IB session and results dates are not published here, because ibo.org blocks automated checking and no date in this project has been confirmed from the IB itself; your school's coordinator is the authority. Diploma physics runs at GEMS Wellington International School in Al Sufouh and Dubai American Academy in Al Barsha among others.

MYPAges 11-16 · MYP 1 to MYP 5

MYP Sciences

Four criteria marked out of eight, with criterion B asking for a method a stranger could repeat and criterion C for the processing and evaluation of the student's own data. Criterion C is the direct ancestor of the Diploma investigation, and a student who never mastered it meets the same demand again with higher stakes.

Some Dubai IB schools carry the MYP through all five years and others enter students for IGCSE at 16, so students arriving in DP1 physics come from two quite different backgrounds. MYP leavers usually have better evaluation habits and weaker quantitative speed than IGCSE leavers, and the two need opposite opening sessions.

IGCSEAges 14-16 · Years 10-11

IGCSE Physics as the other feeder

Cambridge 0625 or Pearson Edexcel 4PH1, both externally examined. Students arrive in DP1 with strong content recall and no experience of formal uncertainty treatment, which IGCSE physics does not examine. The gap is narrow and specific, and the summer before DP1 closes it cheaply.

Many students on this strip sit IGCSE physics and move into the Diploma at a different school, which is the transition that produces a confused DP1 autumn. Cambridge runs June and November series for UAE candidates; Pearson runs May/June and November, with the November 2026 timetable running from late October to 19 November 2026.

ALTAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

A Level Physics as the alternative

The route most British-school students on this strip take instead: narrower, deeper, with a practical endorsement rather than a single assessed investigation and no requirement to carry six subjects. Assessment is almost entirely terminal, which suits some students considerably better.

For engineering and physics degrees both routes are widely accepted and the usual requirement is physics at the higher level of whichever system, often alongside mathematics. Requirements vary by university, country and intake year, including at the Dubai campuses of overseas institutions, so read the individual programme page rather than relying on a general rule.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

Physics requests from this strip concentrate in a short list of topics and components. These are the places marks actually go, with what each is assessed on.

Mechanics and motion

HL and SL

Kinematics, forces, momentum, work and energy. Numerical questions go reasonably; explanation questions do not, because students describe a motion graph without naming the quantity the gradient represents or assert conservation of momentum without stating the condition. The repair is written reasoning rather than more problems.

Thermal physics

HL and SL

Specific heat capacity, latent heat, gas laws and the kinetic model. Marks go in algebraic rearrangement under time pressure and in molecular explanations given out of order. Students who use heat and temperature interchangeably lose the same mark repeatedly across the paper.

Waves and oscillations

HL and SL, with HL extending the treatment

Wave properties, superposition, standing waves, diffraction and interference. The reliable loss is a correct diagram with no written path-difference argument connecting it to the numerical answer. Diagram plus sentence, every time, is the habit worth building.

Electricity and circuits

HL and SL

Current, potential difference, resistance, internal resistance and circuit analysis. The most requested topic on this strip at both levels. Students who calculate confidently still lose potential-divider reasoning marks, because the sequence of consequences is held in the head rather than written.

Fields and electromagnetic induction

HL goes considerably further

Field strength and potential, orbital motion, induction. At Higher Level this is where students either consolidate or quietly fall behind, partly because the mathematics is denser and partly because it arrives late in the course when coursework deadlines are live.

Atomic, nuclear and particle physics

HL and SL, with the standard model at HL

Decay, binding energy, mass defect and nuclear models. Students like the topic and still leak marks, which is diagnostic: the losses are arithmetic with unit prefixes and powers, plus failing to state what a calculated figure means physically.

Energy production

HL and SL

Sources, efficiency, Sankey diagrams and the physics of generation. Questions are often part-qualitative, and students write general environmental commentary where the scheme wants a named physical mechanism and a number. Among the easiest places to recover marks quickly.

Quantum physics at Higher Level

HL only

Photoelectric effect, wave-particle duality and related models. It arrives late in DP2 when revision has begun and is frequently half-learned as a consequence. Treating it deliberately in the autumn rather than the spring is a scheduling choice that changes the outcome.

Uncertainties and data handling

HL and SL; examined in the papers and the investigation

Absolute, fractional and percentage uncertainty, propagation, error bars, maximum and minimum gradients, and honest significant figures. Procedural, examined repeatedly, rarely taught deliberately, and reliable within four to six focused sessions. No level specialist is required.

Graph work and linearisation

HL and SL

Choosing axes so a relationship becomes linear, extracting a gradient with units, taking a constant from the intercept. Students plot correctly and then quote a gradient without units or without showing the triangle, which the scheme does not forgive. A checklist handles most of it.

The investigation

HL and SL, marked out of 24

One scientific investigation designed, conducted, processed and evaluated by the student, moderated externally. The usual failure is a question too broad for the apparatus available. A tutor may coach the method and comment on the student's own drafts, and may write none of it.

The mathematics underneath

Both levels, worse at HL

Rearranging multi-term expressions, logarithms, trigonometry and, at Higher Level, calculus-adjacent reasoning. A student whose algebra is slow looks bad at physics because every question becomes an algebra race with a clock on it. This is the most frequently missed diagnosis.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three patterns of physics support that work along this strip, all one-to-one over live video in Gulf Standard Time.

Diagnostic opening and weekly follow-up

A first session spent marking the student's own recent physics paper rather than teaching, followed by a weekly hour at the stated level. The opening session decides which of the three failure modes applies, which is what makes the following sessions specific rather than a tour of the syllabus.

  • First session marks real work and names the largest loss
  • Fixed weekly hour afterwards, usually 5pm to 8.30pm Gulf Standard Time
  • Higher Level treated as a separate specification from Standard
  • Recorded, so a quantitative session can be replayed

Apartment-feasible investigation planning

A short block for students designing the investigation, with particular attention to what can actually be measured with school apparatus and the time the laboratory is available. Tower living means home data collection is rarely practical, and that constraint should shape the question rather than be discovered after it.

  • The question narrowed to the apparatus genuinely available
  • Uncertainty plan agreed before any data is collected
  • Repeat counts and resolutions decided in advance
  • Criterion-level feedback on the student's own drafts only

Pre-session paper block

Two or three sessions a week in the final term, built on past papers with live marking against the official scheme. For physics this works because most remaining marks sit in written reasoning, data-analysis procedure and question selection rather than in unlearned content.

  • A full paper or section every session, under time
  • Explanation chains written out and marked, not discussed
  • Data-analysis sections practised deliberately, not avoided
  • Ends when the session starts; no open-ended extension

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Dubai Internet City

01

What an IB physics tutor search returns from this address

  • Searches from Internet City, Media City and Knowledge Park return the same results
  • Barsha Heights changes the hour, not the available people
  • Higher Level field and quantum work needs a marker, not a generalist
  • Diagnose, then match on level, then ignore distance

An IB physics tutor in Dubai Internet City means a physics specialist at a stated level, teaching one-to-one over live video in Gulf Standard Time, for a student who attends school somewhere else entirely. There is no school in the free zone and no staff room to draw on, so a proximity search surfaces the tuition centres inland in Al Barsha and whichever agencies have bought the local advertising.

Run the same search from Media City and the results are near-identical, which is the first useful finding. The two free zones share a Metro station, a stretch of Al Sufouh and the same school destinations, so a list ranked by distance is ranking almost nothing. Knowledge Park returns the same set again. Only Barsha Heights produces a materially different experience, and the difference is the hour rather than the people.

Physics narrows the pool further than most subjects. A general science tutor can be genuinely useful for the procedural part of the course, but Higher Level field and quantum reasoning needs someone who has marked those answers against the real scheme. The arithmetic is unforgiving: the IB's 7 per cent share of Dubai enrolment, split across three programmes, six subject groups and two levels, does not leave a market inside a twenty-minute drive.

That is why the practical recommendation is identical from all four addresses. Diagnose first, match on level second, ignore distance third. IB Gram does not offer home visits in the UAE; home visits are a service we run only in India. Lessons run over live video, which for physics costs almost nothing: the work is a shared graph, a worked numerical solution and an annotated past-paper answer.

02

The four districts compared for a physics student

Here is the comparison set out properly. The columns that matter for a Diploma physics student are the school destination, the realistic earliest session time, how deep the local specialist market is, and whether anything about the physics recommendation shifts.

The pattern is clear once it is tabulated. Internet City, Media City and Knowledge Park differ in resident profile rather than in options. Barsha Heights shortens the school run enough to change the slot. The Marina and Palm Jumeirah lengthen it and raise any in-home premium sharply. In no case does the physics change, because the syllabus, the papers, the data booklet and the 24-mark investigation are set nationally rather than locally.

The third column deserves attention. These free zones are working districts with mobile residential populations, so the informal networks that recommend tutors in the villa belt barely exist. A parent in Emirates Hills hears three names at the school gate; a parent in an Internet City tower starts from a search engine. For a narrow request like Higher Level physics, that disadvantage is larger than it looks, because word of mouth is the only mechanism that reliably surfaces rare specialists locally.

The final column repeating itself is the point of the exercise rather than a flaw in it. Families on this strip spend real energy on a geographic question that has no geographic answer, and publishing the comparison is more useful than implying each district needs its own strategy.

What the Higher Level extension actually adds

Parents are told that Higher Level is harder, which is true and not useful. What is useful is knowing what the extension consists of, because it determines whether a student can carry the subject alongside five others and where a term of support should go.

Three things change. First, content: additional topics including the heavier field material and quantum physics, much of which arrives late in the course. Second, a third written component devoted to extended problem-solving in an unfamiliar context, which rewards sustaining a long chain of reasoning rather than recalling more. Third, and least discussed, the depth of written explanation expected across every component rises, so an answer that would have earned full marks at Standard Level can score partially at Higher Level.

The best predictor of coping is algebraic fluency rather than enthusiasm. A student who rearranges a three-term expression quickly and handles logarithms without hesitation can usually carry Higher Level physics. A student whose algebra is slow finds that every physics question becomes an algebra question with a clock on it, and the cost appears in the other five subjects as well as in physics.

The table sets out the comparison. Exact component names, weightings and durations are set by the current subject guide and can change between versions, so confirm specifics with your child's school. Use this to decide where the hours go and whether the level is sustainable, not to argue with a teacher about a weighting.

04

The three failure modes, in order of cost

  • Unstated reasoning: the most expensive, fixed in two or three sessions of marked writing
  • Procedural losses: uncertainties, graphs and significant figures, four to six sessions
  • Algebraic slowness: most often missed, cheapest to repair, and not a physics problem
  • One marked paper distinguishes all three in about twenty minutes

Physics requests arrive described as the subject being hard, and they resolve into three specific failures. Knowing which one applies decides what to buy, how long for and at what rate, and one marked paper usually settles it in twenty minutes.

The most expensive is unstated reasoning. A student writes a true statement where the scheme wants a sequence: resistance increases, so current falls, so the potential difference across the component falls, so the reading falls. Each link is a mark. Students who have never had an explanation answer marked in front of them do not know the links are credited separately, and they lose marks on every explanation question in both papers. The fix is writing answers out and having them marked, which takes two or three sessions and holds.

The second is procedural: uncertainty treatment, graph conventions and significant figures. This is examined in the data-analysis work and throughout the investigation, it is almost never taught deliberately, and it rewards drilled practice rather than insight. Four to six focused sessions makes a student reliable at it permanently, and it does not require a level specialist, which matters when you are deciding what rate to pay.

The third is the quiet one: algebraic slowness. A student who can do the physics but takes three times as long to manipulate an expression will appear weak at physics, run out of time in papers, and conclude they are bad at the subject. This is the diagnosis most often missed, and it is also the cheapest to fix, because the repair is mathematics rather than physics and can be bought at the qualified rather than the specialist rate.

05

The data booklet, the calculator and what revision should stop being

  • With relationships supplied, selection and interpretation are the examined skills
  • Calculator availability differs by component; practise both conditions separately
  • An answer from a screen earns no method marks unless the method is written
  • Data-analysis questions are avoided in revision, which is why marks sit there

A data booklet is provided in the physics examination. That single fact should reshape revision and usually does not. If the relationships are supplied, rehearsing them is practising the one thing the examination has removed, and an hour spent writing out equations is an hour not spent on the skill actually being tested.

What the booklet cannot supply is selection and interpretation: which of the provided relationships applies to the situation described, what each symbol denotes in that context, and which quantity the question has actually given you. Those improve only through past-paper questions where the first step is choosing from the booklet and justifying the choice. It is a short drill and almost nobody runs it.

The calculator rules differ by component, and a student who has only ever worked with one available loses marks when it is not, while a student who uses it slowly loses marks to the clock. Both are mechanical problems. More subtly, an answer produced on a screen has no visible method unless the student writes down what they asked the calculator to do, and method is credited separately from the result.

Put together, this means a physics revision hour should look unlike most physics revision hours. Less reading of notes, more attempting questions under time, more marking against the official scheme, more writing of explanation chains, and a deliberate rotation through data-analysis questions, which students avoid precisely because they are the ones that feel unfamiliar. The avoidance is the reason the marks are available.

06

Designing an investigation from a tower rather than a villa

  • Tower living means the school laboratory is usually the only apparatus available
  • Question choice has to respect laboratory access time, not just physics interest
  • Narrow questions suit limited apparatus and are what the criteria reward anyway
  • Coaching covers method and feedback on the student's own drafts, never the writing

This is a practical problem specific to apartment living that nobody writes about. The physics investigation is designed by the student, and plenty of good investigations involve equipment, space and repeated measurements over time. A student in a villa community can set something up in a garage or a garden and leave it there. A student in an Internet City tower cannot.

The consequence is that question choice has to respect the apparatus genuinely available, which usually means the school laboratory and the time the laboratory is open. A question that requires fifty repeats across a week is not a good question for a student whose only access is two timetabled sessions. Discovering that in week six is how a 24-mark component becomes a salvage operation.

The constraint is not a disadvantage if it is used early. Investigations that work well within school apparatus and limited laboratory time tend to be narrow, with a clean independent variable and a measurable dependent variable, and narrow is exactly what the criteria reward. Students aiming for something ambitious and physically awkward are usually optimising for how the title sounds rather than for what the mark scheme credits.

The honesty line applies as it does everywhere. A tutor may help narrow the question to the apparatus available, teach uncertainty planning before data collection, teach data processing and graphing conventions, explain what each criterion rewards, and read the student's own draft and say exactly where it fails against a descriptor. A tutor may not write, redraft or restructure any part of it, and may not supply a model to adapt. One provider in this market sells completed Internal Assessments at a published price; the risk sits with the student, and the school supervisor remains the authority on process.

07

Physics, engineering and medicine routes from this strip

  • Some engineering programmes specify Higher Level physics; many accept Standard with HL mathematics
  • Read the individual programme page in the application year, not a general rule
  • The mathematics route and the physics level interact and are usually decided separately
  • No IB points figure for Ministry equivalency should be quoted without an official source

Physics is taken at Higher Level mostly for a reason outside the Diploma: engineering, physics, computer science and some architecture programmes expect it, often alongside Higher Level mathematics. That turns a physics grade into an application gate, and it changes how a family should think about spending on it.

The requirement varies considerably. Some engineering programmes specify Higher Level physics; many accept Standard Level physics with Higher Level mathematics; a few treat mathematics as the binding constraint and physics as desirable. Requirements differ by university, by country and by intake year, including at the Dubai campuses of overseas institutions, so read the individual programme page in the application year. A tutoring website is the wrong place to learn an admissions requirement, including this one.

There is a related planning point about mathematics. A student aiming at engineering with Applications and Interpretation rather than Analysis and Approaches may find the mathematics route, not the physics grade, is what limits their options. Those two decisions are usually made separately, in different conversations, a year apart, and they interact. Asking the coordinator to look at them together in DP1 is worth more than a term of tutoring.

For Ministry of Education equivalency, which is a separate matter from admissions, the published British-track rule is five accredited GCSE or IGCSE subjects at no less than grade E or 3, excluding Arabic and Islamic education, plus one accredited subject at Advanced Level at no less than E or two at Advanced Subsidiary Level. No IB points threshold appears in the source we could read, so no figure should be quoted to you without a moe.gov.ae reference. Equivalency is completed with the authority, is not something a tutoring platform performs or accelerates, and tutoring is not required for it.

08

What physics support costs along this strip

Published rates in Dubai sort into tiers, and matching the tier to the failure mode is how the budget stays sensible. Budget online tutoring runs from AED 45 to AED 150 an hour, with EdFlik publishing from AED 45 to AED 65 and Tutopiya from AED 33 to AED 52. Qualified subject tutors online are published from AED 150 to AED 300, with Unitors at IGCSE from AED 150 and IB from AED 200. Specialists run AED 200 to AED 450 and above, with TutorChase at AED 270. Premium named tutoring reaches AED 500 to AED 650 and beyond, with BartyED at AED 650.

Applied to the three failure modes, the sorting is clean. Procedural repairs in uncertainty and graph work belong in the qualified band, because no level judgement is involved. Algebraic slowness also belongs there, and can be bought from a mathematics tutor rather than a physics one. Unstated reasoning at Higher Level, and any investigation close to moderation, belong in the specialist band and will waste money below it.

In-home visits are published between AED 180 and AED 500 an hour with travel included, and Bestimate's in-home band is AED 180 to AED 350. Monthly packages include AED 799 for eight online sessions and AED 1,599 to AED 1,799 for four two-hour in-home visits. For a subject whose repairs are procedural and need frequent repetition, eight shorter contacts beat four longer ones, and the in-home package costs roughly double. Bestimate's monthly estimates for a weekly hour run AED 240 to AED 600 budget, AED 600 to AED 1,200 mid and AED 1,000 to AED 2,000 or more for specialist exam-year support.

Those are other providers' published figures rather than IB Gram prices. Before paying anything, establish the rate, whether it is per hour or per lesson, whether travel is inside the number, the cancellation terms and the remedy if the match is wrong. Three of the six strongest-ranking Dubai tutoring pages publish no rate at all, which is why a sourced table belongs here.

The four districts, compared

This list exists for the comparison rather than for coverage. For each district, what differs for a physics student and what is identical.

Dubai Internet City

The free zone with the Metro station for this strip. No school inside it; Diploma students travel inland to Al Barsha or along the coast to Al Sufouh. Sessions settle at six o'clock or later, and the local market is agency advertising rather than resident physics teachers.

Dubai Media City

Seaward along the same strip with the tram stop. The same school destinations, the same journey times and the same search results. For a physics student there is no measurable difference between the two addresses, which is itself worth knowing.

Dubai Knowledge Park

University and training campuses along the tram line with residential towers attached. An older resident profile, which shows up as more DP2 physics requests, more investigation rescues and more questions about engineering prerequisites.

Barsha Heights

Inland of the Metro line and closest to the Al Barsha cluster. The one neighbour where the answer genuinely changes: children are home earlier, so a 5pm slot works, which makes a twice-weekly block in the DP2 spring far easier to sustain.

Al Sufouh

The residential strip either side of the free zones, within walking distance of GEMS Wellington International School and Dubai College. Short school runs, but the roads around both gates stall between 2.30pm and 3.30pm, which eats the earliest hour.

Dubai Marina and JBR

The largest resident population in range and the slowest evening roads. Later slots dominate and lesson recordings get used most here, because a quantitative physics session is the one students actually replay before a test.

Emirates Hills, The Meadows and The Springs

The villa belt with two established IB schools running the full Diploma. Most of the strip's Higher Level physics requests come from this cluster, and so do most of the field and quantum questions.

Jumeirah Lakes Towers

Its own Metro station and a wide spread of school destinations. Steady Standard Level physics demand and a concentration of investigation requests in the DP1 spring, which is the busiest window of the physics year.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

    Send one marked physics paper

A returned paper or mock shows which of the three failure modes applies: unstated reasoning, procedural losses in uncertainty and graph work, or algebraic slowness. That diagnosis takes about twenty minutes from real evidence and is a guess without it.

  2. 02

State the level, not just the subject

Higher Level physics adds content, adds a third written component and raises the depth of explanation expected across every component. Matching without the level produces sound teaching aimed at the wrong paper, which is a comfortable way to lose a term.

  3. 03

Matched by level, with limits stated

If no suitable specialist is free in the hour you need, you are told so with the earliest realistic alternative, including when the match would be a tutor based outside the UAE teaching in Gulf Standard Time. The DP1 spring, when every investigation is live, is the hardest window.

Free trial lesson on a data-analysis question

One lesson at no cost, worked on a real data-analysis question at your child's level, because that is where the diagnosis shows fastest. Afterwards you get a written note naming the largest single loss and the first four sessions' target, before anything is paid.

Weekly hour, independent problem set, timed data section

A held hour each week, a problem set attempted alone, and one timed data-analysis section between sessions. The independent work matters more in physics than elsewhere, because the skills are procedural and need repetition the student performs rather than watches.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

The district comparison answered, not dodged

Internet City, Media City and Knowledge Park produce the same physics answer because the syllabus, papers and investigation are set nationally. Barsha Heights changes the hour. The Marina changes the in-home premium. Publishing that is more useful than implying each address needs a different strategy.

Diagnosis before teaching

Three failure modes account for nearly every physics request on this strip, and each has a different remedy, a different block length and a different sensible rate. One marked paper identifies which, which is why the first session marks work rather than covering syllabus.

Level treated as a separate specification

Higher Level physics adds content, a third written component and a higher expected depth of explanation. Algebraic fluency predicts coping better than interest does, and where a move to Standard Level is right we say so in DP1 while it is still administratively simple.

Investigations planned around real apparatus

Tower living means the school laboratory is usually the only equipment available, and laboratory access time should shape the question rather than be discovered in week six. Narrow questions suit limited apparatus and are what the criteria reward anyway.

Rate tier matched to the problem

Procedural uncertainty work does not need a specialist at AED 200 to AED 450 an hour, and algebraic repair can come from a mathematics tutor. Higher Level reasoning and a late investigation do need the specialist band. Published bands are set out here so you can tell which you are buying.

No travel premium and no unverified IB figures

Published in-home rates run AED 180 to AED 500 an hour against AED 150 to AED 300 online. IB Gram does not offer home visits in Dubai; home visits are a service we run only in India. No IB session or results date appears here, because none has been confirmed from the IB itself.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Dubai Internet City: your questions answered

Would a physics tutor be easier to find if we lived in Media City instead?+

No. Internet City and Media City adjoin each other in Al Sufouh, share a Metro station and the same school destinations, and neither contains a school. A search from either address returns essentially the same listings. Knowledge Park produces the same set again. Only Barsha Heights behaves differently, and the difference is that children get home earlier so a 5pm slot works. The physics itself, and the pool of people who can teach it, are unchanged by any of these moves.

Why is Higher Level physics so much harder than Standard Level?+

Three things change rather than one. It adds content, including the heavier field material and quantum physics, much of which arrives late in the course. It adds a third written component devoted to extended problem-solving in an unfamiliar context. And it raises the depth of written explanation expected across every component, so an answer that would score fully at Standard Level can score partially at Higher Level. Algebraic fluency, not enthusiasm for physics, is the best predictor of coping with all three.

What are the three usual reasons an IB physics student loses marks?+

Unstated reasoning, where a true statement is written instead of the sequence of consequences the scheme credits link by link. Procedural losses in uncertainty treatment, graph conventions and significant figures, which are examined repeatedly and rarely taught deliberately. And algebraic slowness, where the physics is understood but every question becomes an algebra race against the clock. One marked paper distinguishes them in about twenty minutes, and each has a different remedy and a different sensible price.

How do I test whether Higher Level physics is sustainable for my child?+

With a timed algebra exercise rather than a conversation. Give them several multi-term rearrangements and a couple of logarithm questions under time. If that is fluent, Higher Level physics is viable. If it is slow and error-prone, the subject will consume two evenings a week and the cost will appear in the other five subjects as well as in physics. That test takes fifteen minutes and is considerably more informative than asking whether they enjoy the subject.

Should revision include writing out the equations if a data booklet is provided?+

No, and this is one of the commonest wasted hours in physics revision. If the relationships are supplied, rehearsing them is practising the one thing the examination has removed. What is examined is selection and interpretation: which supplied relationship applies here, what each symbol denotes in this context, and which quantity the question has given you. Past-paper questions where the first step is choosing from the booklet and justifying that choice are the right use of the time.

Why does my child avoid data-analysis questions in revision?+

Because they feel unfamiliar, which is precisely why the marks are sitting there. Uncertainty propagation, error bars, maximum and minimum gradients and honest significant figures are procedural and feel unlike the physics the student enjoys, so revision drifts towards comfortable topics. Four to six focused sessions makes a student reliable at the whole set permanently, and the marks are awarded for procedure rather than insight, so they are earned every time the question appears.

Our flat has no space for an investigation. Does that limit the options?+

It shapes the question, which is manageable if it is done early. For most students in these towers the school laboratory is the only apparatus genuinely available, and laboratory access time is limited, so an investigation requiring fifty repeats over a week is not a realistic choice. Narrow questions with a clean independent variable work well within those constraints and are what the criteria reward anyway. Discovering the constraint in week six is what turns a 24-mark component into a salvage job.

When should the uncertainty plan for the investigation be made?+

Before any data is collected. A student who knows in advance how they will propagate uncertainties measures the right quantities, takes enough repeats, and records instrument resolutions as they go. One who decides afterwards finds the required information was never written down and cannot recover it without repeating the practical, which needs laboratory time the school may not have spare. It is a ten-minute conversation that routinely saves a fortnight and several marks.

Can a tutor help with a physics investigation that is nearly due?+

Yes, within the rules, and with a lower ceiling than earlier help would have had. A tutor may teach data processing and graphing conventions, explain what each criterion rewards, and read the student's own draft and name precisely where it fails against a descriptor. A tutor may not write, redraft or restructure any part of it or supply a model to adapt. Marks tied to method and data are already fixed by then, which is why the autumn conversation is worth so much more.

Does my child need Higher Level physics for engineering?+

Sometimes. Some engineering programmes specify Higher Level physics; many accept Standard Level physics alongside Higher Level mathematics; a few treat mathematics as the binding requirement. It varies by university, by country and by intake year, including at the Dubai campuses of overseas institutions, so read the individual programme page in the application year rather than relying on a general rule or a tutoring website. Ask the coordinator to review the physics level and the mathematics route together, because they interact.

Can a general science tutor handle IB physics, or do we need a physics specialist?+

It depends on the failure mode rather than the level. Procedural work in uncertainty, graphs and significant figures is well served by a competent science tutor in the published AED 150 to AED 300 band, because the material is mechanical. Algebraic repair can come from a mathematics tutor at the same rate. Higher Level field and quantum reasoning, and an investigation close to moderation, need the specialist band at AED 200 to AED 450 and above.

What time do physics sessions run from an Internet City tower?+

Usually between six and eight in the evening. Diploma students here travel to Al Barsha, Al Sufouh or the villa belt, the roads around the larger gates stall for about an hour after the final bell, and a bus serving several communities adds stops, so a student is typically home between four and five. Add food and a start on school work and six is the realistic opening. From Barsha Heights a 5pm slot is workable; from the Marina, usually 6.30pm.

Is one physics session a week enough in DP2?+

Through the autumn, usually yes, alongside a problem set attempted alone and one timed data-analysis section between sessions. In the final term many families move to two or three sessions a week for six to eight weeks, which is worth disrupting the rhythm for, and that block should end when the examination session starts rather than drifting. Buying four hours a week earlier mostly consumes the independent practice time where the remaining marks actually sit.

Does it matter that the tutor is not based in the UAE?+

For physics, what matters is Gulf Standard Time scheduling and familiarity with the current subject guide, not the tutor's address. The lesson is a shared graph, a numerical solution built line by line and a past-paper answer annotated live. Where a match is a tutor based outside the UAE, we say so before you book rather than behind a local-sounding number, because two providers ranking for Dubai searches route parents to numbers in another country without disclosing it.

What should be different after four physics sessions?+

Something visible in marked work. Explanation answers written as a chain rather than a statement. Graphs with units, a gradient triangle shown and a sensible number of significant figures. Data-analysis sections attempted rather than skipped. If none of that has changed, the honest reading is that the match or the diagnosis was wrong rather than that more hours are needed, and re-matching is the right response rather than extending the block.

Same strip, same physics, different hour

If you are looking for an IB physics tutor in Dubai Internet City, run the district comparison once and then put it aside. Media City and Knowledge Park return the same options; Barsha Heights lets you book an earlier hour; the Marina costs more if anyone drives. What changes outcomes is the diagnosis and the level: unstated reasoning, procedural losses in uncertainty and graph work, or algebraic slowness underneath the physics, each with a different remedy and a different sensible rate. Send one marked paper, take a free trial lesson on a data-analysis question, and judge it at session four on marked work.
