IGCSE Science Tutor in Al Sufouh

An IGCSE science tutor in Al Sufouh has to fit into a day that is already full. School along the Al Sufouh Road corridor finishes mid-afternoon, co-curricular blocks run on past four, and the drive home through Media City and Knowledge Park takes what it takes. Our lessons are one-to-one and live over video, timed to Gulf Standard Time, so the slot starts when your child is actually at a desk rather than in a car.

  • Cambridge 0610, 0620, 0625, 0654 and Edexcel 4BI1, 4CH1, 4PH1 covered
  • Sessions start from 16:00 GST, after the Al Sufouh school run
  • Paper 5 practical and Paper 6 alternative-to-practical taught separately
  • One trial lesson before you commit to a weekly slot

IB & IGCSE in Al Sufouh

What an IGCSE science search in Al Sufouh is usually really about

Parents in Al Sufouh rarely start looking for a science tutor because their child dislikes science. They start looking in the second half of Year 10, when the first set of real past-paper marks comes home and the gap between what the student knows and what the mark scheme rewards becomes visible. A child who can explain photosynthesis out loud scores four of a possible six because the answer named the product but not the condition. A child who understands circuits loses the last two marks of a question because the working was not set out. That is not a knowledge problem and no amount of re-reading the textbook fixes it.

The second reason is structural. Most British-curriculum schools in this corridor run three separate sciences for some students and a co-ordinated or combined course for others, and the decision about which route a child takes is made in Year 9 on the basis of Year 9 evidence. By the middle of Year 10 that decision has consequences. A student on Cambridge Co-ordinated Sciences 0654 is sitting one grade for three subjects; a student on 0610, 0620 and 0625 is sitting three. The content overlaps but the papers, the mark tariffs and the depth expected in a six-mark answer do not.

The third reason is timing, and it is the one nobody writes about. A secondary day in Al Sufouh typically ends between 14:45 and 15:30. Co-curricular activities, squad training and school transport push the real arrival home to somewhere between 16:00 and 17:15 depending on which school, which day and which direction the traffic on Al Sufouh Road is moving. A tutor who has to drive to the villa arrives inside that window, waits, and bills for the wait. A live video session at 17:00 or 19:30 starts at 17:00 or 19:30.

What a science tutor is for, in practical terms, is the distance between understanding and marks. That distance is measurable. It shows up as command-term failure, where a student describes when the question said explain. It shows up in the practical papers, where the candidate who has never written a method with a controlled variable named loses four marks that have nothing to do with chemistry. It shows up in the data questions, where a correct calculation arrives without a unit. All three are teachable in weeks, not years, and all three are invisible in a school report that says the student is working at expectation.

This page is written from the Al Sufouh school day outwards. It names the schools this neighbourhood feeds, the syllabus codes those schools enter candidates for, the realistic window a weekday session fits into, and what the Dubai market charges for science support at this level. Lessons are delivered online, one-to-one, over live video. IB Gram does not send tutors to homes anywhere in the UAE; in-home visits are a service we run only in India. The comparison further down the page sets out why that is the better deal for a family here rather than a compromise.

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

An IGCSE science tutor in Al Sufouh works across four routes, and which one your child is on changes everything about the plan. The route is printed on the statement of entry, not on the school report, so the first question in a trial lesson is always which code the school has entered the candidate for.

Cambridge Single Sciences (0610, 0620, 0625)

Three separate qualifications, three separate grades. Each follows the same assessment shape: a multiple-choice paper worth 30% of the grade, a written theory paper worth 50%, and a practical component worth 20%. Candidates sit either the Core papers or the Extended papers, never a mixture, and the tier decision caps the grade available. This is the route most selective schools in the Al Sufouh corridor use for students heading towards Higher Level sciences or A Level.

In Dubai this route is the usual precondition for IB Diploma Higher Level Biology, Chemistry or Physics at sixteen. Schools along Al Sufouh Road that run both an IGCSE and a Diploma pathway treat three separate science grades as the evidence for Higher Level entry, so the tier your child sits in Year 10 has a direct effect on Year 12 option blocks.

0654Ages 14-16 · Years 10-11

Cambridge Co-ordinated Sciences (Double Award)

One course, two IGCSE grades, covering biology, chemistry and physics content at reduced depth. The papers follow the same 30-50-20 split as the single sciences but the theory paper is longer and ranges across all three disciplines in a single sitting. Students who manage content well but struggle to hold three separate specifications in their head often do better here than on three separate subjects.

Double Award is common at Dubai schools that want every student to leave with science qualifications without forcing three timetable blocks. It satisfies the Ministry of Education equivalency count as two of the five accredited subjects for the British track, and it keeps A Level science open, though a student moving to Higher Level Chemistry from 0654 has a genuine content gap to close over the summer.

Pearson Edexcel International GCSE Sciences

Edexcel runs its international sciences without a practical examination. Practical skills are assessed inside the written papers instead, which changes the revision entirely: there is no Paper 6 to practise, but there are extended method-and-evaluation questions embedded in Paper 1 and Paper 2. Codes are 4BI1 for biology, 4CH1 for chemistry, 4PH1 for physics, with 4SD0 as the Double Award.

Several Dubai schools entered candidates with Edexcel specifically because the November series and the absence of a practical exam suit a two-site or mid-year intake. Parents in Al Sufouh with children at two different schools are frequently running a Cambridge child and an Edexcel child at the same time, and the two need different past-paper diets.

The route after sixteen: Diploma sciences or A Level

The reason IGCSE science marks matter beyond the certificate is that they decide the sixth-form door. Higher Level Diploma sciences and A Level sciences both assume a student can set out a method, handle uncertainty in data and write an extended explanation. A student who scraped a grade by learning recall questions will meet that assumption in the first month of Year 12 rather than at the exam.

Dubai students apply to UK, UAE, Canadian and Australian universities from the same cohort, and the science prerequisite differs for each. Medicine routes generally expect Chemistry at the higher tier; engineering routes expect Physics with Mathematics. Al Sufouh families often discover this during the Year 11 options conversation, which is late.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

An IGCSE science tutor in Al Sufouh is asked for one of these ten things far more often than anything else. Each is diagnosable in a first session, and each has a known place where marks are lost rather than a vague difficulty.

IGCSE Biology (0610 / 4BI1)

Core and Extended

Marks go missing in the long-answer questions on transport, respiration and inheritance, where a student writes a correct process with no reference to the specific organism or condition the stem named. Genetic-cross questions need the gamete row shown, not implied. The Extended tier adds plant transport detail and the nitrogen cycle.

IGCSE Chemistry (0620 / 4CH1)

Core and Extended

Moles and reacting masses are where the grade is decided. The common failure is not the arithmetic but the chain: mass to moles, moles to ratio, ratio to the wanted substance, back to mass. Students who learn each step separately stall when a question requires four of them without signposting. Organic naming and the ionic-equation rules are the other two reliable losses.

IGCSE Physics (0625 / 4PH1)

Core and Extended

Electricity is the section that most often produces the gap between a strong student and a strong mark. Series and parallel reasoning collapses when a question changes one resistance and asks what happens everywhere else. Momentum, pressure in fluids and the ray-diagram conventions for lenses are the other three places where method marks are left on the page.

IGCSE Co-ordinated Sciences (0654)

Core and Extended, double award

The difficulty is breadth under time pressure. A single theory paper moves from a food-web question to an electrolysis calculation to a wave diagram, and students who revise one discipline at a time have never practised that switching. Past-paper work for 0654 has to be done whole-paper, not topic by topic.

IGCSE Combined Science (0653)

Core and Extended, single award

One grade from all three sciences at the lightest depth on offer. The route is appropriate for a student whose future does not require a science prerequisite, and inappropriate for one who intends to take a science at Higher Level. Deciding which of those two a child is turns out to be the most useful thing a tutor does in Year 10.

Practical skills: Cambridge Paper 5

Core and Extended

The practical test is twenty per cent of a Cambridge single-science grade and is marked on method discipline rather than scientific insight. Candidates lose marks for a table drawn without units in the header, for a graph scaled so the plotted points occupy a third of the grid, and for a conclusion that restates the data instead of answering the question.

Practical skills: Cambridge Paper 6

Core and Extended

The alternative-to-practical paper tests the same skills on paper. It rewards a candidate who can name the dependent, independent and controlled variables in a described experiment, identify the source of error that actually matters, and suggest an improvement that is specific rather than the word more. All three are drillable in four to six sessions.

Mathematics inside science papers

Core and Extended

Rearranging, standard form, percentage change and gradient from a graph carry marks in all three sciences, and a student who is comfortable in a maths lesson is often not comfortable when the same skill arrives inside a physics stem. Working this separately is faster than treating it as a physics problem.

Command terms and tariffs

Core and Extended

State, describe, explain, suggest, compare and calculate each demand a different shape of answer, and the mark tariff tells the candidate how many distinct points are wanted. A session spent mapping tariff to point count typically recovers more marks per hour than any amount of content revision.

Tier placement: Core or Extended

Diagnostic

Core papers cap the grade available; Extended papers carry content a borderline student may not reach. Schools make this call on internal evidence, and it can usually be revisited before entries close. Testing which tier a child is actually on, using the two sets of past papers side by side, is a single-session job with a two-year consequence.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three ways of working cover almost every IGCSE science request from this area. All three are delivered one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time, and all three start with the same diagnostic question about which syllabus code is on the statement of entry.

Weekly one-to-one through the course

One sixty or ninety-minute session a week, running alongside the school's own scheme of work, with the tutor staying a fortnight ahead of the class rather than behind it. This is the pattern that suits a Year 10 student who is coping but losing marks on written answers, and it uses the school's own assessment calendar as the measuring stick.

  • Follows the school's topic order
  • Past-paper questions set between sessions
  • A short written note to the parent after each session
  • Reviewed against each school assessment point

Paper-focused block before a series

A fixed block of eight to twelve sessions aimed at one named paper, usually the Extended theory paper or the practical component. The work is whole-question practice under timed conditions with the mark scheme opened afterwards, which is the single exercise most students never do on their own.

  • One named paper per block
  • Timed conditions from the second session
  • Mark-scheme reading as a taught skill
  • A written list of recurring errors

Diagnostic and tier review

A single session, or two, to answer one question: is this child on the right tier and the right route. The tutor works through Core and Extended past-paper questions on the same topics and reports what the evidence shows. Families use this before an options meeting or before entries close, and some need nothing further.

  • Core and Extended questions side by side
  • A written recommendation you can take to school
  • No weekly commitment attached
  • Useful before Year 9 and Year 11 options

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Al Sufouh

01

The Al Sufouh school day, and the hour a session can actually start

  • Typical secondary finish in this corridor: 14:45 to 15:30
  • Realistic weekday start after activities and transport: 17:00 or later
  • Evening slots at 19:00 and 19:30 survive a late school bus
  • Weekend mornings suit ninety-minute paper work better than weekdays

A weekday session has to fit between the end of school and the point where a fifteen-year-old stops being able to learn anything. In Al Sufouh that window is narrower than parents expect. Secondary days in this corridor typically finish between 14:45 and 15:30. Co-curricular blocks, squad training and school transport then push the real arrival home to somewhere between 16:00 and 17:15, depending on the school, the day and whether Al Sufouh Road is moving. Add a meal and the honest start time for a weekday session is 17:00 at the earliest for most households, and 19:00 for many.

This is the arithmetic that decides whether tutoring works or quietly stops. A family books a 16:00 slot in September because that is when the school day ends on paper. Through October the student arrives at 16:20, then 16:35, then misses one because of a fixture. By November the slot has moved twice and the sense that tutoring is another thing to manage has set in. Booking the slot the household can actually keep, even if it is later than ideal, is worth more than booking the slot that looks best on the calendar.

A tutor who travels makes this worse rather than better, and not through any fault of their own. Someone driving from Al Quoz or Jumeirah to a villa in Al Sufouh at five in the afternoon is in the same traffic as everybody else, and the arrangement has to absorb that somewhere: either the tutor arrives early and waits, or arrives late and the session is short, or the rate carries the travel. A live video session has none of that. The tutor is at a desk, the student is at a desk, and the hour that was booked is the hour that is taught.

The second thing the online format buys in this particular neighbourhood is subject match. Al Sufouh is well served for general science support. It is not well served for a tutor who has taught Cambridge 0620 Extended Paper 4 for several years and knows where the mole questions in the recent series went wrong. Restricting the search to people who can reach your villa by half past five restricts it to a handful of candidates; removing the drive widens it to anyone awake in a compatible time zone.

Which science route your child is on, and what each one actually assesses

Before a single topic is taught, the route needs establishing, because the four routes are assessed differently enough that revision advice for one is wrong for another. The route is not reliably recoverable from a school report. It is on the statement of entry, where a four-digit Cambridge code or a Pearson code appears next to the subject name, and it is worth finding before the first session rather than during it.

Cambridge single sciences share one shape. A multiple-choice paper carries thirty per cent of the grade, a written theory paper carries fifty, and a practical component carries twenty. Candidates sit either the Core set or the Extended set, and the tier caps the grade available. The practical twenty per cent splits two ways: some centres enter candidates for Paper 5, a laboratory test, and others for Paper 6, which tests the same skills on paper. Which one your child sits changes what the last six weeks of revision should contain, and a surprising number of families do not know the answer.

Cambridge Co-ordinated Sciences 0654 awards two grades from one course and keeps the same weighting split, but the theory paper roams across biology, chemistry and physics in a single sitting. Students who revise discipline by discipline have never rehearsed the switching that paper demands, and they lose time rather than knowledge. The fix is whole-paper practice early, which feels premature in January and is not.

Pearson Edexcel runs its international sciences without a practical examination at all, assessing practical skills inside the written papers instead. For an Edexcel candidate there is no Paper 6 to drill, but there are extended method and evaluation questions embedded in the theory papers that a Cambridge-focused revision plan would miss entirely. Any tutor working with a child in Al Sufouh needs to know which of these two worlds the student lives in. The codes on the entry statement settle it in ten seconds.

The practical paper is a fifth of the grade and almost nobody practises it

  • Units belong in the table header, not next to each reading
  • Scale the axes so plotted points fill at least half the grid
  • Name the method of control, not just the controlled variable
  • An improvement must be specific; the word more earns nothing

Twenty per cent of a Cambridge single-science grade sits in the practical component, and it is the part of the course least likely to be revised. The reason is simple: it does not feel like science. Paper 6 does not ask what happens in a reaction. It asks a candidate to read a described experiment, name the variables, tabulate given results, plot them, identify the limitation that matters and suggest a specific improvement. None of that is in the textbook chapters a student revises from.

The marks lost here are mechanical and therefore recoverable quickly. A table drawn without units in the column headers loses a mark regardless of the numbers in it. A graph scaled so the points occupy the lower-left quarter of the grid loses the scale mark. A line of best fit drawn through every point rather than through the trend loses another. A conclusion that restates the readings instead of answering the question asked loses the final one or two. Four or five marks on a forty-mark paper is a grade boundary for many candidates, and none of those marks required knowing any chemistry.

The variable question is the one worth the most teaching time. A candidate who can write, in one sentence each, what was changed, what was measured and what was held the same has banked marks on every version of this paper for the last decade. Students who answer in general terms, saying the temperature was kept the same without saying how, get partial credit. Students who name the method of control get all of it. This is a sentence structure, not a concept, and it is learnable in one session and then rehearsed.

Where Paper 5 is sat instead, the same skills are tested with apparatus in front of the candidate and the clock running. That adds time pressure and the discipline of recording as you go rather than at the end. It does not change the underlying marking. A student who can write a controlled method on paper can write one in a laboratory; a student who cannot will not discover the skill under exam conditions.

04

Where science marks actually go, subject by subject

A school report that says a student is working at expectation tells a parent nothing actionable. A past paper marked question by question tells them everything. Across the students we see from this part of Dubai, the losses cluster in the same places, and they are the same places every year because they are features of the assessment rather than of the child.

In biology, the extended-response questions on transport, respiration and inheritance are where strong students underperform. The pattern is a correct general process written without reference to the specific organism, tissue or condition the question named. A six-mark question on water movement in a named plant under a named condition wants the condition in the answer. Genetic crosses need the gamete row shown on the page; a correct final ratio with the working omitted scores less than a wrong ratio with the method visible.

In chemistry, moles decide the grade. Not the arithmetic, which most students can do, but the chain of steps: mass to moles, moles to the reacting ratio, ratio to the substance the question asked about, back to a mass or a volume. Each step is taught separately in school and most students can perform each one. Assembling four of them when the question does not signpost the sequence is the skill, and it is practised by doing twenty of them in a row with the steps written out, not by re-reading the chapter.

In physics, electricity produces the widest gap between understanding and marks. A student can explain series and parallel circuits accurately and still fail a question that changes one resistance and asks what happens to the current elsewhere, because that requires reasoning through consequences rather than recalling a rule. Momentum calculations lose marks to unstated direction. Lens ray diagrams lose marks to construction lines drawn without arrows. Each of these is a specific, small, teachable fix, and together they are often two grades.

What IGCSE science tutoring costs around Al Sufouh

Start from the cheapest end rather than the premium end, because that is where most families begin and where most of the disappointment happens. Published rates from online platforms serving Dubai start low: EdFlik advertises from AED 45 to 65 an hour and Tutopiya from roughly AED 33 to 52. At that level a parent is buying a university student or a recent graduate who knows the subject and does not know the mark scheme. For a Year 9 student who needs homework supervision that can be perfectly adequate. For a Year 11 candidate six weeks from a written paper, the thing being bought is mark-scheme literacy, and it is not available at that price.

The next band up is where IGCSE science support actually sits. Unitors publishes IGCSE tuition from AED 150 an hour and IB from AED 200; the broader market for a qualified subject tutor working online runs roughly AED 150 to 300. Specialist IB, IGCSE and A Level tutors are quoted between AED 200 and AED 450 and above, with TutorChase at AED 270 and Bestimate's 2026 Dubai survey showing AED 200 to 450 plus. At the top, named or examiner-level tutors reach AED 500 to 650 and above, with BartyED quoted at AED 650.

In-home visits are the band that distorts the comparison. Bestimate puts in-home one-to-one at AED 180 to 350 an hour and independent home tutors at AED 200 to 500, and monthly packages of AED 1,599 to 1,799 for four two-hour in-home sessions are commonly advertised against AED 799 a month for eight online sessions. The difference is not teaching quality. It is a car, a driver's time and the risk that the hour gets compressed by traffic. In Al Sufouh, with the tram corridor and the Palm access road in the mix, that premium buys the household less than it does in a compact European city.

These are market figures, published by the companies named and by Bestimate's Tutoring Cost Dubai 2026 rate table, not IB Gram prices. We do not publish a science rate card on this page because the right number depends on tier, subject count and how many weeks remain. What a parent can verify independently is the band: three or four quotes from different provider models, each asked for the rate per sixty minutes rather than per session, will land inside the ranges above. Set the KHDA announcement of no private-school fee increase for 2026-27 alongside them when you are working out what the household can carry.

Online against in-home for a science student in this neighbourhood

This page targets a search that includes the word tutor and is read by parents who may well have meant someone at the dining table. The honest answer is that in-home tutoring is a real service in Dubai, that the market prices it between roughly AED 180 and AED 500 an hour, and that IB Gram does not offer home visits in the UAE at all. Home visits are something we run only in India. What follows is the case for the format we do deliver, made on its merits rather than by dismissing the alternative.

For science specifically, the online format has three concrete advantages that have nothing to do with cost. The first is the shared screen. A mole calculation worked in a shared document, with the four steps labelled, survives the session; a calculation worked on a notepad on a kitchen table is gone by Thursday. The second is the mark scheme. Reading a mark scheme alongside the student's own attempt, both visible to both people at once, is the exercise that moves marks, and it is awkward to do over one printed copy. The third is recording: a student can replay the five minutes where the electrolysis explanation finally landed.

The fourth advantage is the one that matters most in Al Sufouh and is the hardest to see from a search results page. Choosing a tutor who can reach your door by half past five means choosing from the people who happen to live nearby and are free at that hour. Choosing a tutor who appears on a screen means choosing the person who has taught the specific paper your child is sitting. For single-science Extended candidates, and especially for chemistry, the difference between those two pools is the difference between help and the right help.

There are students for whom a physical presence is the deciding factor, and a parent who knows that about their child should act on it. For everyone else, the thing to test is not the format in the abstract but one hour of actual teaching. Our trial lesson exists for that: one session, no card details taken, with a short written note afterwards saying what the tutor found. If the format does not suit the child, that is a useful thing to have learned in an hour rather than a term.

The Cambridge and Edexcel session calendar, counted backwards

Nothing in the competitor set names a session or a deadline, which is odd, because the calendar is what makes tutoring urgent or not. Cambridge International runs IGCSE, O Level and International A Level examinations in a June series and a November series. The February and March series exists but is offered to India only, so a candidate in Dubai sits June or November and nothing else. Getting this right matters more than it sounds: a family planning around a spring series is planning around a date their child will not sit.

Pearson Edexcel International GCSE runs in May and June and again in November. The November 2026 final timetable runs from late October to 19 November 2026. For results, Pearson's recent pattern is instructive: June 2026 results went to centres on 19 August 2026 and to students on 20 August, while November 2025 results reached students on 22 January 2026. A November entry therefore means a January result, which is the detail that decides whether a resit can be reported to a university in time.

The other thing worth knowing is zoning. Cambridge allocates every examination centre to one of six administrative zones, and the timetable differs between them. Cambridge states that it is essential to use the correct version of the timetable for your zone and that it cannot accept responsibility for candidates who miss an examination after using the wrong one. A parent in Al Sufouh should take the timetable from their own child's school rather than from a search result, because a zone mismatch is a missed paper.

Counted backwards from a June series, the useful milestones are these. Entries close months ahead, set by the centre and not negotiable afterwards; the tier decision is locked at that point. School mocks land in the winter term and are the last honest diagnostic before the real thing. Practical components are scheduled separately from theory papers, sometimes weeks apart. Specific dates move between series, so every one of them should be read off the live official timetable rather than a page like this one.

KHDA, the mandatory UAE subjects and the permit question

Private schools in Dubai are regulated by the Knowledge and Human Development Authority, which the UAE government describes as responsible for enhancing and overseeing the quality of private education in the emirate. KHDA inspects annually on a six-band scale from Outstanding down to Very Weak. A parent in Al Sufouh reading an inspection report should treat the science judgement and the attainment-versus-progress distinction as the useful parts; a school can be judged strong overall while a particular subject sits a band lower.

The context behind the market is worth knowing too. Dubai had 387,441 students across 227 private schools in 2024-25, offering seventeen different curricula, with the UK curriculum at 37 per cent of enrolment, Indian at 26, US at 14 and the International Baccalaureate at 7. KHDA confirmed in May 2026 that there would be no increase in private-school fees for 2026-27 under Dubai's second economic incentives package. Seven new private schools join the 2026-27 intake, four UK curriculum and three International Baccalaureate, adding 16,846 places.

Alongside the licensed international curriculum, Arabic, Islamic Education and Social or Moral Studies are mandatory in all Dubai private schools. KHDA requires separate classes for Arabs and non-Arabs in Arabic as a first language, Islamic Education and Social Studies, and states that combined classes for both groups are strictly prohibited because of the different curriculum expectations and language of instruction. Instructional time is calculated on a forty-minute lesson unit, and schools must ensure teachers of Islamic Education and Arabic hold the appropriate KHDA approval. A science-focused plan has to fit around those timetabled hours rather than pretend they are not there.

On tutoring itself: private tuition in the UAE is permit-based. The private tutor work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023 and is granted free of charge for two years, with eligible applicants including teachers registered in government or private schools, government and private-sector employees, unemployed individuals, university students and school students aged fifteen to eighteen. Individuals tutoring without a permit are subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws; no fine schedule is published, so no amount should be quoted to you. The application route is MoHRE's own service, Issuance of a New Work Permit - Private Tutor Licensing, through the MoHRE app, website and e-services system. IB Gram holds no KHDA, MoE or MoHRE accreditation and makes no such claim.

What a science tutor may and may not do with assessed work

  • Teaching, modelling and feedback on the student's own attempt: allowed
  • Supplying sentences, analysis or conclusions for submission: not allowed
  • Past papers and mark schemes: linked from the board's own site, never reproduced
  • If an exercise could not be described to the school honestly, it should not happen

IGCSE science carries less internally assessed coursework than the Diploma does, which makes this section shorter but not less important, because many Al Sufouh households are running an IGCSE child and a Diploma sibling at the same time and the rules differ. For IGCSE science, the assessment is almost entirely external: written papers and a practical component sat under supervision. There is no extended piece of writing to be improperly helped with, which removes the biggest integrity risk in one stroke.

Where the line does matter is in school-set work that feeds a predicted grade, and in the Diploma Internal Assessment if the student moves on to Higher Level science. A tutor may teach the underlying skill, explain a mark scheme, model a worked example on a different question and give feedback on the student's own attempt. A tutor may not write the Internal Assessment, draft the analysis, or produce a conclusion for the student to submit. One company in this market sells completed Internal Assessments. That is a malpractice trigger for the student, with consequences that outlast any grade.

The practical distinction is simple enough to apply. If the output is in the student's words and the tutor has commented on it, that is teaching. If the output contains sentences the tutor supplied, it is not the student's work, regardless of how the file was shared. A good tutor says so at the start and refuses the request when it comes, which it occasionally does, usually from the parent rather than the student and usually in April.

On materials: past papers and mark schemes are published by the boards and should be taken from their own sites. We reference and link them; we do not reproduce or supply syllabus documents, papers, mark schemes or grade-boundary tables. For Cambridge codes that is cambridgeinternational.org and for Edexcel codes qualifications.pearson.com, and for the version of the specification your child is actually sitting, the school's examinations officer is the fastest route.

Starting mid-year, and what happens if the specialist is busy

Most science enquiries from Al Sufouh arrive at two moments: after the winter mock results and in the eight weeks before a June series. Both are late and both are workable, but they call for different plans. After mocks there is time to fix causes, which means variable-writing, mole chains, electricity reasoning and command-term discipline, in that order of return per hour. Eight weeks out there is time to fix symptoms, which means paper-by-paper drilling on the two topics that cost the most marks and leaving the rest alone.

The sequence is the same either way. A trial lesson diagnoses, using past-paper questions on the Core and Extended tiers so the tier itself gets tested rather than assumed. A written note follows within a day, naming the specific losses and what the first block of sessions will address. Then a weekly slot the household can genuinely keep, in the window the school day leaves rather than the one that looks tidiest, and a review at the school's next assessment point against evidence rather than impression.

Availability deserves an honest answer, because no competitor in this market gives one. Core demand from this neighbourhood is Cambridge Extended Biology, Chemistry and Physics, and that is well covered with UAE-hours tutors. Narrow requests are not always instant: Co-ordinated Sciences 0654 whole-paper specialists, Edexcel 4CH1 at short notice in the fortnight before a series, and anyone needed at exactly 16:00 GST on a Sunday can take several days to match. When no suitable UAE-hours tutor is free, we say so and offer the nearest workable slot rather than putting a generalist in front of a Year 11 candidate.

The trial lesson is free and the condition is stated here rather than in small print: one session per student, no payment details collected beforehand, and no obligation afterwards. If the written note that follows does not describe your child recognisably, that is the signal to stop. Families in Al Sufouh who book a diagnostic and nothing else, then take the written recommendation into a school options meeting, have used this well.

Where we tutor

Al Sufouh and the neighbourhoods a session is booked from

Families booking IGCSE science support from this part of Dubai live across a stretch of coast and inland communities with very different commutes. The practical difference between them is not distance but what time a child is home and at a desk.

Al Sufouh 1

Villa communities set back from Al Sufouh Road, with the shortest school runs in this list. Students here are often home before 15:45, which makes a 16:00 start realistic on three or four days a week.

Al Sufouh 2

Closer to the Knowledge Park and Media City cluster. The tram line along Al Sufouh Road helps older students travel independently, which in practice means a session can be booked without a parent needing to drive.

Dubai Knowledge Park and Media City

Apartment living with a working-parent profile and a later household rhythm. Evening slots from 19:00 GST are used far more here than straight-after-school ones, and they work better for a tired Year 11 student anyway.

Al Barsha 1 and 2

A short hop inland and the feeder area for several of the same schools. Traffic at the Mall of the Emirates interchange is the variable that decides whether a 16:30 session starts on time, which is why most Al Barsha families take 17:30.

Umm Suqeim and Al Manara

Coastal villas with a Jumeirah school intake and a long east-west run on Umm Suqeim Street. Siblings at two different schools are common here, so households often need two different weekly slots rather than one shared afternoon.

Dubai Marina and JBR

Dense towers with lift and parking constraints that add a real ten to fifteen minutes to any in-person arrangement. Students here are usually home quickly by tram but with homework already waiting.

The Greens and The Views

Mid-rise communities on the inland side of Sheikh Zayed Road, feeding several of the same British-curriculum schools. Friday afternoon and Saturday morning doubles are the slot this community asks for most.

Palm Jumeirah

A single access road and a trunk that turns a six-kilometre journey into a twenty-five-minute one at the wrong hour. The argument for a live video session is sharper here than almost anywhere else in Dubai.

Emirates Hills and Jumeirah Islands

Large-plot villa communities further inland, with longer school transport runs and later arrivals. A 17:30 or 19:30 slot is normal, and the second of those survives a late bus better.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in Al Sufouh

Al Sufouh, Knowledge Park and Media City

The schools immediately around Al Sufouh run British and international curricula with IGCSE at sixteen, and most publish a secondary day finishing in the middle of the afternoon with co-curricular blocks afterwards. Students we support are drawn from across this group.

  • Dubai College
  • GEMS Wellington International School
  • Regent International School
  • Dubai American Academy
  • Raffles World Academy
  • Emirates International School Jumeirah

Al Barsha and the inland ring

A short drive inland sits a dense cluster of schools that take a large share of the Al Sufouh intake, running Cambridge and Edexcel IGCSE alongside Diploma and American pathways. Boards differ school by school, which matters when siblings attend two of them.

  • American School of Dubai
  • Kings' School Al Barsha
  • Dubai International Academy Al Barsha
  • Safa Community School
  • Nord Anglia International School Dubai
  • GEMS Metropole School

Schools are named here as context for the neighbourhood's education ecosystem; IB Gram claims no affiliation with, or endorsement by, any of them.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Send the subject, the code and the year group

The single most useful thing you can send is the syllabus code from the statement of entry: 0620, 0654, 4CH1. With the code, the year group and the school, a tutor can be matched to the exact paper your child sits rather than to the subject in general. The school's examinations officer will confirm the code in a sentence if you do not have it.

  2. 02

Book the trial in the slot you can actually keep

Pick the hour that survives a late bus and an activity block, not the one that looks neatest. For most Al Sufouh households that is 17:30 or 19:00 GST on a weekday, or a weekend morning if the work is whole-paper practice. One free trial session per student, with no payment details collected beforehand.

  3. 03

Read the written note the next day

After the trial the tutor sends a short written note: which tier the evidence supports, where the marks were going, and what the first block of sessions will target. It is written to be shown to the school. If it does not describe your child recognisably, say so and we will change the tutor or tell you tutoring is not the issue.

  4. 04

Run a weekly slot and review at the school's own checkpoints

Sessions follow the school's topic order with the tutor staying a fortnight ahead of the class. Progress is measured at the school's own assessment points using marked past-paper questions, not at intervals we invent. If three checkpoints pass without movement, the plan changes rather than continuing.

  5. 05

Switch to paper drilling in the final term

Six to eight weeks out, the weekly session changes shape: whole questions under timed conditions, mark scheme opened afterwards, and the practical component drilled on its own. This is the point at which knowing whether your child sits Paper 5 or Paper 6 stops being trivia.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

The hour booked is the hour taught

No travel means no compression. A session at 17:30 starts at 17:30 whether or not Al Sufouh Road is moving, and if the school bus is late the start can shift by ten minutes with a message rather than costing the session. Over a two-term engagement that difference is several hours of actual teaching.

Matched to the code, not the subject

Cambridge 0620 Extended and Edexcel 4CH1 are both IGCSE chemistry and they are not the same job. Tutors are matched to the paper your child sits, including whether the practical component is Paper 5 or Paper 6, because the last six weeks of revision depend on that answer.

Mark schemes read, not described

The exercise that moves a science grade is reading the official mark scheme against the student's own attempt, line by line, and seeing where the point was awarded. On a shared screen both people see both documents at once. It is the single most repeatable improvement available in IGCSE science.

Market rates published, with sources

The AED figures on this page are attributed to the companies and surveys that published them, with the date. No competitor page in this cluster cites a source for a single rate. You should be able to verify the band yourself with three quotes before you spend anything.

Availability stated plainly

If no suitable UAE-hours tutor is free for a narrow request, we say so and offer the nearest workable slot. Putting a general science tutor in front of a Year 11 Extended candidate because the calendar is full is worse than a week's wait, and we would rather lose the booking.

Clear lines on assessed work

A tutor teaches, models and gives feedback on the student's own work. We do not supply sentences, analysis or conclusions for submission, and we do not reproduce board materials. That boundary is stated to the student in the first session, before anyone is tempted to test it.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Al Sufouh: your questions answered

What time can an IGCSE science session realistically start in Al Sufouh?+

Secondary days in this corridor typically finish between 14:45 and 15:30, but co-curricular blocks and school transport push most students home between 16:00 and 17:15. Add a meal and the honest answer for a weekday is 17:00 at the earliest, with 17:30 and 19:00 the two slots that hold best across a full term. Families on Palm Jumeirah or in Emirates Hills usually find 19:30 safer because it removes the trunk-road variable entirely. Book the hour your household can keep rather than the one that looks tidiest, because a slot that drifts twice in October tends to be abandoned by November.

How do I find out which IGCSE science syllabus code my child is entered for?+

The code is on the statement of entry, which the school issues ahead of the series. It appears next to the subject name as a four-digit Cambridge number such as 0620 or 0654, or as a Pearson code such as 4CH1. If you do not have the statement, the school's examinations officer will confirm it in one email, and it is worth asking before the first tutoring session rather than during it. The code determines whether there is a practical examination, whether your child sits Core or Extended papers, and which past papers are the right ones to work from.

Does my child sit Paper 5 or Paper 6 for the Cambridge science practical?+

That depends on what the centre entered, and it is the question most families cannot answer. Paper 5 is a laboratory test with apparatus; Paper 6 is the alternative to practical, which tests the same skills on paper. Both carry twenty per cent of a single-science grade. The school's examinations officer knows which one is on the entry. The answer changes the final six weeks of revision substantially: Paper 6 rewards drilled variable-writing, tabulation and graph discipline, while Paper 5 adds the pressure of recording as you go with a clock running.

Is Co-ordinated Sciences 0654 easier than taking three separate sciences?+

It is less content at less depth, which is not the same as easier. 0654 awards two grades from one course and keeps the thirty, fifty, twenty weighting split, but the theory paper moves between biology, chemistry and physics within a single sitting. Students who revise one discipline at a time have never rehearsed that switching and lose time rather than knowledge. The route suits a student who handles breadth well and struggles to hold three specifications separately. A student heading for Higher Level Chemistry will have a real content gap to close over the summer.

Can my child move from Core to Extended papers, or the other way?+

Usually yes, until the centre confirms entries, after which the tier is locked. The decision is made by the school on internal evidence and it can normally be revisited if the evidence changes. What makes the conversation productive is data: Core and Extended past-paper questions on the same topics, attempted and marked, so the discussion is about what the child can actually do rather than about confidence. A single diagnostic session produces that, and the written note from it is designed to be taken into a school meeting.

Why does my child understand the science but still lose marks in the written papers?+

Because the papers reward a particular shape of answer, and that shape is a separate skill from the content. The command term tells the candidate what kind of answer is wanted and the mark tariff tells them how many distinct points to make. A student who describes when the question said explain writes something true that earns nothing. Units left off a calculation, a genetic cross without the gamete row, an electricity answer that recalls a rule instead of reasoning through a change: all of these are cases of knowing the science and not showing it in the form the mark scheme can credit.

How much does IGCSE science tutoring cost in Dubai in 2026?+

Budget online platforms publish from AED 33 to 65 an hour, with Tutopiya from 33 to 52 and EdFlik from 45 to 65. A qualified subject tutor working online runs roughly AED 150 to 300, with Unitors listing IGCSE from AED 150. Specialists are quoted between AED 200 and 450 and above, with TutorChase at AED 270. In-home visits sit at AED 180 to 500 including travel, per Bestimate's 2026 Dubai rate table. These are market figures published by those providers, not IB Gram prices; the right number for your family depends on tier, subject count and weeks remaining.

Are tutors in Dubai required to hold a permit, and how would I check?+

Yes. Private tuition in the UAE operates under a permit introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, granted free of charge for two years. Eligible applicants include registered school teachers, government and private-sector employees, unemployed residents, university students and school students aged fifteen to eighteen. Individuals tutoring without one are subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws, though no fine schedule is published, so treat any specific amount you are quoted as unverified. The official route is MoHRE's Private Tutor Licensing service. Ask any tutor directly whether they hold the permit.

Which exam series will my child in Dubai actually sit for Cambridge IGCSE?+

June or November. Cambridge runs IGCSE, O Level and International A Level examinations in a June series and a November series, and the February and March series is offered to India only, so it does not apply to a candidate in Dubai. Pearson Edexcel International GCSE runs in May and June and again in November; the November 2026 final timetable runs from late October to 19 November 2026. Take the actual dates from your own school, because Cambridge allocates every centre to one of six administrative zones and the timetable differs between them.

Is there any point starting science tutoring eight weeks before the papers?+

Yes, but the plan has to change shape. Eight weeks is not enough to fix underlying causes across three sciences, and trying produces a plan that touches everything and improves nothing. What eight weeks does allow is targeted work on the two topics costing the most marks, plus the practical component, which is twenty per cent of a Cambridge single-science grade and is the part least likely to have been revised. A first session should identify those three targets from marked past-paper evidence and ignore the rest of the specification deliberately.

Will a tutor come to our villa in Al Sufouh?+

No. IB Gram does not offer home visits anywhere in the UAE; in-home tutoring is a service we run only in India. Every UAE lesson is one-to-one and live over video, timed to Gulf Standard Time. The in-home market here is real and priced at roughly AED 180 to 500 an hour including travel, so if a physical presence is the deciding factor for your child, that option exists elsewhere. For science specifically, the shared screen, the mark scheme read side by side and the choice of a tutor who has taught your child's exact paper tend to matter more than the room.

Can one tutor handle biology, chemistry and physics for the same student?+

Sometimes, and it is worth being careful about it. A tutor can reasonably cover two sciences at Core level or support all three on general study skills and command-term discipline. At Extended level, and particularly in the final two terms, each science has its own mark-scheme habits and its own traps, and a specialist in one is rarely equally sharp in the others. Most families we work with use one tutor for the science that is genuinely weak and leave the other two alone, which is cheaper and usually produces more movement.

My child studies online, so how is the practical work covered?+

For Cambridge candidates the practical component is sat at the school as the examination centre, either as Paper 5 with apparatus or as Paper 6 on paper, and nothing about online tutoring changes that. What tutoring covers is the assessed skill: naming the independent, dependent and controlled variables with the method of control stated, tabulating with units in the header, scaling axes properly, drawing a trend line, and writing a conclusion that answers the question. Edexcel candidates sit no practical examination at all, so the same skills are drilled inside the theory papers instead.

What does the free trial lesson include, and what is the catch?+

One session per student, taught by the tutor who would take the weekly slot, with no payment details collected beforehand and no obligation afterwards. The tutor works through past-paper questions at both tiers so the session produces evidence rather than a chat, and a short written note follows within a day naming where the marks were going and what a first block would target. The note is written so it can be shown to the school. The condition is simply one trial per student; if the note does not describe your child recognisably, that is the signal to stop.

Which Al Sufouh schools do your students come from?+

Students we support near Al Sufouh attend schools across the Al Sufouh Road and Knowledge Park corridor and the Al Barsha cluster just inland, including Dubai College, GEMS Wellington International School, Regent International School, Dubai American Academy and, a short drive inland, American School of Dubai, Kings' School Al Barsha and Dubai International Academy Al Barsha. Those schools are named as context for the neighbourhood, not as clients or partners; IB Gram has no affiliation with any of them. What matters operationally is which board each one enters candidates with, because siblings at two schools often need two different past-paper diets.

How will I know whether the science tutoring is actually working?+

By marks on marked work at the school's own assessment points, not by a feeling at the end of a session. After each session the tutor sends a short written note. At each school checkpoint the question asked is whether the specific losses named in the diagnostic note have reduced, measured on past-paper questions rather than on class tests of varying difficulty. If three consecutive checkpoints show no movement, the plan is wrong and should change: a different tutor, a different target, or an honest conversation about whether tutoring is addressing the real problem.

Book a diagnostic for your Al Sufouh science student

Send the syllabus code, the year group and the school, and pick a slot your household can keep through a full term rather than the earliest one on the calendar. The trial lesson is one session per student with no payment details taken beforehand, and the written note that follows names the tier the evidence supports, where the marks are going and what the first block would target. If the note does not describe your child, stop there. If it does, the weekly slot runs against the school's own assessment points, and six weeks before the series the work changes shape to timed papers and the practical component.
