IB Tutor near me in Al Sufouh

Searching for an IB tutor near me in Al Sufouh returns agencies, not prices. This page gives the prices first: what Dubai families pay per hour, what the in-home premium buys once travel is counted, and the three spending habits that return the least. IB Gram matches Al Sufouh students with IB specialists and teaches every lesson one-to-one, live over video on Gulf Standard Time, so the subject decides the tutor rather than the drive from Al Barsha. A free trial lesson comes before any payment.

IB & IGCSE in Al Sufouh

What an IB tutor costs in Al Sufouh, before anyone talks about outcomes

An Al Sufouh parent typing "IB tutor near me" into Google at nine in the evening is usually trying to answer two questions at once: can someone fix this, and what will it cost. The pages that come back answer neither. Three of the six strongest competitors in this search publish no price at all, and two of the three that do quote in US dollars, a currency no Dubai family transacts in. One of them asks the price question in its own FAQ list and then declines to answer it. So the first thing this page does is publish the numbers.

Across the Dubai market, hourly rates for academic tutoring run from roughly AED 45 at the budget online end to AED 650 for a single premium named tutor. The useful part of that spread for an IB family sits between AED 200 and AED 450 an hour, which is the band published for IB, IGCSE and A-Level specialists. Below AED 150 you are generally buying supervision: a capable graduate who can keep a fourteen-year-old working through a problem set. Above AED 500 you are buying scarcity rather than a different quality of teaching. The whole table, with each figure attributed to the provider that published it, sits further down this page.

The second number nobody shows an Al Sufouh family is the cost of the slot itself. An in-home visit is quoted at AED 180 to AED 500 an hour in Dubai, and the gap between that and the online band is not teaching quality. It is the drive. A tutor coming into Al Sufouh at four in the afternoon loses twenty to forty-five minutes each way on Al Sufouh Road and Hessa Street, and that time is inside the rate whether it is itemised or not. It also shrinks the pool of people who will take the booking down to whoever lives close enough, which is how a family ends up with a generalist teaching Higher Level Chemistry.

That is the argument for the way IB Gram works. Tutoring for UAE families is delivered one-to-one over live video, and IB Gram does not offer home visits in Dubai or anywhere else in the Emirates; in-home teaching is a service that exists only in India. Removing the drive is not a convenience point. It means an Al Sufouh student who needs Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches at Higher Level is matched with someone who teaches that course and that paper, instead of the best available person within a twenty-minute radius of Al Sufouh 2.

The third number is the one families get wrong most often, and it is not a rate at all. It is how many hours they buy. A family spending AED 300 an hour on two subjects twice a week has committed to roughly AED 4,800 a month before anybody has diagnosed anything. The same budget spent on one subject, once a week, with an agreed six-week review and a clear list of the topics being fixed, usually moves the grade further. The sections below set out where the money goes, where it is wasted, and what a two-year Diploma plan actually costs in AED from start to finish.

At a glance

  • Specialist IB tutoring in Dubai is published at AED 200-450 an hour; in-home visits at AED 180-500
  • The in-home premium is travel time, not teaching quality, and it narrows your choice of tutor
  • KHDA confirmed on 22 May 2026 that Dubai private school fees will not rise for 2026-27
  • The MoHRE private tuition work permit is granted free of charge for two years
  • Lessons for Al Sufouh families are one-to-one and online; there are no UAE home visits

IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Al Sufouh sits beside the Knowledge Park corridor, and the schools in and around it run the IB in three different shapes: the continuum from primary, the Middle Years Programme into the Diploma, and the Diploma taken after IGCSE. Each shape has a different cost profile for a family, because each one puts the pressure in a different year.

PYPAges 3-12 · FS1 to Year 6

Primary Years Programme

The PYP is inquiry-led and has no external examination, which changes what tutoring is for. There is no paper to prepare and no mark scheme to decode, so the honest use of a tutor at this stage is a specific skill gap: number fluency that has not become automatic, reading stamina, or written English that lags behind spoken English in a household where another language is used at home. Sessions are short and the useful measure is whether the gap closes, not whether a grade moves.

In Al Sufouh and Al Barsha the PYP question is usually a transfer question. A child arriving mid-year from a British or Indian primary meets an inquiry structure with no textbook spine, and parents read the absence of worksheets as an absence of progress. A few weeks of targeted number and writing work, run alongside the school rather than against it, costs far less than the blanket twice-weekly package families often buy in panic.

MYPAges 11-16 · Years 7-11

Middle Years Programme

The MYP is assessed against four criteria per subject, each marked out of eight, and reported as a 1-7 grade generated from those criteria rather than from a percentage. Parents who understand percentages find this opaque, and students who are strong on knowledge can still score poorly on the criteria that reward process: investigating, communicating, reflecting. Most MYP tutoring value lies in reading the criteria descriptors with the student and matching their work to the wording, which is unglamorous and cheap.

The MYP years are where Al Sufouh families tend to overspend. A Year 9 report with two 4s triggers a two-subject, twice-weekly booking that can run past AED 3,000 a month for two years. The same report usually describes a criterion problem, not a knowledge problem, and six to eight sessions resolve it. Spend the money later, in the Diploma years, when the assessment is external and the hours genuinely convert.

DPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

Diploma Programme

The Diploma is six subjects, three at Higher Level and three at Standard Level, plus Theory of Knowledge, the Extended Essay and CAS. Every subject carries an internally assessed component and externally examined papers, and the HL papers add both content and a separate extended-response demand. This is where tutoring has the clearest return, because the assessment is external, published and specific: a Higher Level Paper 3 is a different skill from a Paper 1, and it can be taught directly.

Al Sufouh Diploma students sit the May session, the one UAE schools use. The spend that matters here is concentrated: the first term of DP1, when the step up from IGCSE lands, and the twelve weeks before the May papers. Families who hold a steady weekly hour across both of those windows typically pay less in total than families who buy nothing until February and then book three sessions a week in a scramble.

CPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

Career-related Programme

The CP pairs two or more Diploma courses with a career-related study, a reflective project and a personal and professional skills course. It is offered by far fewer schools than the Diploma, and the tutoring need is narrower: the DP courses inside it are examined exactly as they are in the full Diploma, so a CP student taking Business Management SL needs the same paper preparation as a Diploma student taking it.

Few schools in the Al Sufouh catchment run the CP, so a family here usually encounters it only as an alternative raised in a Year 11 meeting. If that happens, the cost-relevant question is which DP courses sit inside the CP offer, because those are the components that carry external papers and therefore the components where paid tutoring converts into marks.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

An IB tutor in Al Sufouh is not a generalist, and the rate you pay should track the specificity of the subject and level. The courses below are the ones Al Sufouh and Al Barsha families ask for most, with what each one actually assesses and where marks go missing.

Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches

HL and SL

Algebraic fluency, calculus and proof. HL adds a Paper 3 of two extended problems, which is where the HL grade is usually decided. Marks are lost less on the final answer than on unjustified steps: a correct result with no reasoning collects very little on a method-marked question.

Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation

HL and SL

Modelling, statistics and technology use. The calculator is assumed rather than optional, and the common failure is treating a modelling question as an algebra question. HL statistics and the regression work carry more marks than students expect from the lesson time spent on them.

Physics

HL and SL

Conceptual questions punish learned procedure. Students lose marks on units, significant figures and uncertainty treatment in the data-analysis questions, and on explanation questions where a correct equation is written but the physics is never stated in words.

Chemistry

HL and SL

Organic mechanisms and energetics are the usual pressure points, and the data booklet is a skill of its own. A student who has not practised locating values under exam pressure loses time on questions that should be mechanical, which costs marks at the end of the paper.

Biology

HL and SL

Volume of content plus precision of command terms. "Outline" and "explain" carry different mark tariffs, and students who write a paragraph for a two-mark outline lose time they need for the extended-response question later in the paper.

Economics

HL and SL

Diagram accuracy and the internal assessment portfolio. Labelled axes, correctly shifted curves and an explicit link to the question wording carry marks that content knowledge alone does not. HL adds quantitative questions that reward arithmetic discipline.

Business Management

HL and SL

Case-study application rather than recall. The pre-released case for the HL paper rewards weeks of structured preparation, and students who revise theory without mapping it onto the named business consistently underperform their knowledge.

English A: Language and Literature

HL and SL

Unseen textual analysis, the individual oral and the HL essay. The oral is a ten-minute performance against two extracts and a global issue, and it is the component most improved by rehearsal with someone who knows the criteria wording.

English B

HL and SL

Productive writing in a defined text type, plus listening and reading papers. Marks are lost on register and text-type conventions rather than on vocabulary, which is why generic English support rarely moves this grade.

Computer Science

HL and SL

Pseudocode, data structures and the internal assessment solution. The IA is a working product with documentation, and students routinely build something impressive while under-documenting the design criteria that carry the marks.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three formats cover almost every Al Sufouh request, and they cost different amounts because they do different work. All three are delivered one-to-one over live video, scheduled around the Dubai school day and Gulf Standard Time.

Weekly one-to-one, one subject

A fixed hour each week with the same tutor, built around the school's own assessment calendar rather than a generic syllabus order. This is the format that produces the most grade movement per dirham, because the tutor sees the same student's work accumulate and can diagnose a pattern instead of answering whatever came up that day.

  • One subject, one level, one named tutor
  • A six-week review against an agreed list of topics
  • Session notes a parent can read without a progress meeting
  • Pause or stop at any point without a package penalty

Exam-term intensive

A compressed block in the twelve weeks before the May papers, usually two sessions a week, built entirely from past-paper work and mark-scheme reading. It costs more per month than the weekly format and should be bought for a reason: a specific paper, a specific topic cluster, or a mock result that identified something concrete.

  • Past papers timed under exam conditions, then marked against the published scheme
  • Command-term discipline and mark-tariff awareness
  • A written topic list, so the family can see what is being bought
  • Ends when the session ends, with no rolling commitment

Internal assessment supervision

Scheduled support across the life of an Internal Assessment, Extended Essay or Theory of Knowledge essay. The tutor teaches the method, reads the student's own drafts and gives feedback against the published criteria. The tutor does not write, redraft to completion or supply content, because the work must be the student's own under IB academic honesty rules.

  • Research question narrowing and feasibility
  • Criterion-by-criterion feedback on the student's own draft
  • Referencing and citation discipline
  • A clear written boundary on what help is permitted

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Al Sufouh

01

What that search actually returns in Al Sufouh, and what it leaves out

  • Proximity filters out specialists before you ever see them
  • Subject plus level is the match that matters: "IB maths" is two different courses
  • Ask what paper a tutor has taught, not what degree they hold
  • Online delivery means the hour you pay for is a full teaching hour

An IB tutor near me in Al Sufouh is a proximity search for a service where proximity has stopped mattering. The phrase is a habit from a time when a tutor was someone who drove over, and the search engine still reads it that way: it returns agency landing pages, map listings for training institutes in Knowledge Park and Media City, and classified adverts from individuals whose qualifications are a single line of self-description.

What those results do not contain is the information that decides whether the money works. None of the strongest pages in this search publishes an AED rate card. None names a subject and level together. None explains that a Higher Level Physics tutor and a Middle Years science tutor are different people with different rates, or that a tutor who has never read a Paper 3 mark scheme cannot teach Paper 3 regardless of how good their degree is.

The useful version of the question is not who is nearby. It is who teaches this exact course, at this exact level, and can show how they know it. For an Al Sufouh family that reframing is almost pure gain. The catchment holds a small number of households and a smaller number of specialist tutors who happen to live inside it, so a proximity filter removes most of the people who could actually teach the subject.

That is what IB Gram does differently, and it is a structural difference rather than a claim about quality. Matching happens on subject and level first and the lesson runs one-to-one over live video, timed to Gulf Standard Time. An online IB tutor in Al Sufouh is chosen from everyone who teaches the course, not from everyone who can reach Al Sufouh 2 by half past four.

02

What Dubai families pay per hour, cheapest tier first

Start at the bottom of the market rather than the top, because that is where most families start and where most of the disappointment lives. Budget online tutoring in Dubai is published from around AED 45 an hour, and the honest description of that tier is supervision: a capable person, often a university student, who will keep a student working and answer questions as they arise. For a Year 8 student who simply is not doing the homework, that may be exactly the right purchase.

The middle band, AED 150 to AED 300 an hour online, is where a trained subject teacher appears. The difference a parent can actually detect is mark-scheme literacy: this tutor knows that "state" and "explain" carry different tariffs, knows which topics the examiner has returned to in the last four sessions, and marks the student's work the way the paper will be marked. The top band, AED 200 to AED 450 and beyond, is IB, IGCSE and A-Level specialists, where the figure buys level-specific depth rather than a better personality.

Above AED 500 the market is pricing scarcity. A single named tutor with a reputation, a full diary and no incentive to discount will quote AED 650 an hour, and that figure is published rather than inferred. It is not a fraud, but it is not a different category of teaching either, and an Al Sufouh family on a two-year Diploma budget should understand that they are buying availability.

Every figure in the table below was published by the provider named beside it, and the whole table should be read as market context rather than as an IB Gram price list. IB Gram's own commercial answer is a free trial lesson followed by a conversation, because the right number depends on the subject, the level and how many weeks are left.

What the in-home premium buys in Al Sufouh, counted in minutes

The in-home band sits roughly AED 50 to AED 200 above the online band for comparable teaching, and the honest accounting of that gap is travel. A tutor who lives in Al Barsha and teaches a 16:00 session in Al Sufouh 1 commits between two and two and a half hours to deliver sixty minutes. No business absorbs that, so it is priced in, either as a higher rate or as a minimum two-hour booking.

The second cost is less visible and matters more. A fixed physical slot can only be filled by someone willing to make that journey at that time, which collapses the available pool. An Al Sufouh family wanting Chemistry at Higher Level discovers that the shortlist is three people, none of whom has taught the current syllabus, and the choice becomes a compromise framed as a convenience.

Scheduling is the third cost. An in-home session cannot easily move by twenty minutes when a school fixture overruns, cannot split into two shorter sessions in exam week, and cannot happen at all when the family travels. Over a two-year Diploma that produces a steady trickle of cancelled and part-used hours that nobody adds up.

This is why IB Gram does not offer home visits in the UAE at all. Home tutoring is a service offered only in India, and the UAE model is one-to-one teaching over live video, which keeps the full hour and keeps the choice of tutor open. A parent who wants to compare on cost should compare the delivered teaching minute, not the headline rate.

04

Five ways IB tutoring money gets wasted in this catchment

  • Diagnose first: one hour reading past assessments reshapes the whole plan
  • Match the rate to the job; supervision and specialist teaching are different purchases
  • Count what you use in a monthly package, not what you bought
  • A steady weekly hour across two years costs less than a twelve-week panic
  • Confirm the course code and level, not just the subject name

The first is buying hours before buying a diagnosis. A family books two subjects twice a week in September on the strength of a June report, and by November nobody can say which topics have been fixed. One session spent reading the student's last three assessments against the mark scheme will usually redirect the whole plan, and it costs one hour.

The second is paying specialist rates for supervision work. If the problem is that a Year 10 student does not start their homework until 22:00, an AED 400 specialist is an expensive solution to a scheduling problem. The reverse error is just as costly: paying AED 90 for group revision when the issue is a Higher Level Paper 3 technique that a group cannot address.

The third is the untracked package. Monthly bundles in this market are published at AED 799 for eight online sessions and AED 1,599 to AED 1,799 for four in-home sessions of two hours, and both are reasonable value if used. Families routinely use five of eight, then renew. The fourth waste is the opposite shape: nothing bought until February of the exam year, then three sessions a week at panic rates for twelve weeks, which costs more than two years of a steady weekly hour.

The fifth is paying for the wrong level of the same subject. Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches and Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation are different courses with different papers, and Higher Level is not Standard Level with extra homework. A tutor who knows the subject but not the level will teach competently and still miss the assessment the student is actually sitting, which is the most expensive kind of waste because it looks like progress.

05

The two-year Diploma budget for an Al Sufouh family, written out

Set the tutoring number beside the school number and it stops feeling arbitrary. Dubai had 387,441 students enrolled across 227 private schools in 2024-25, offering seventeen different curricula, with the International Baccalaureate accounting for around seven per cent of that enrolment. KHDA confirmed on 22 May 2026 that private school fees in the emirate would not rise for the 2026-27 academic year, under Dubai's second economic incentives package valued at AED 1.5 billion. For a family already committed to a Diploma place, that freeze is the one fixed line in the budget.

Against that, published market estimates for weekly one-hour tutoring run at roughly AED 240 to AED 600 a month at the budget end, AED 600 to AED 1,200 in the middle, and AED 1,000 to AED 2,000 or more for specialist exam-year support. Those are Bestimate's own monthly figures for weekly sessions, and they are the right order of magnitude to plan with. One subject, one hour a week, for the two Diploma years, at the mid band, is somewhere between AED 14,000 and AED 29,000 across twenty-four months.

That total is usually a surprise, and the surprise is useful. It forces the question of which single subject most deserves it, which is a better question than whether to tutor at all. Most Al Sufouh Diploma students who get real value from paid tutoring get it in one or two subjects, concentrated in the first DP1 term and the final twelve weeks, rather than spread thinly across six.

The table below collects the published figures in one place so a family can build its own plan. The right-hand column names the source for each, because an AED figure without a source is a number somebody made up.

Is the person you are paying permitted to tutor in the UAE?

Private tutoring in the UAE is regulated by permit, and this is the cheapest piece of due diligence available to an Al Sufouh family. The MoHRE private tuition work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, it is granted free of charge for two years, and the official service page lists a two-working-day completion time with applications made through the MoHRE smart app, website and e-services system.

Because the permit costs nothing and takes two days, a tutor who does not hold one has either not bothered or is not eligible, and neither answer is good. Eligible applicants include teachers registered in government or private schools, employees in the government and private sectors, unemployed individuals, school students aged fifteen to eighteen, and university students. Individuals offering private tutoring without a permit from MoHRE are subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws; no fine schedule has been published, so no amount should be quoted to you either.

There is a second rule a parent should know, because it affects a popular shortcut. Abu Dhabi's ADEK professional-ethics rules prohibit private and charter school staff from giving paid private tutoring to students enrolled at their own school, and the MoHRE permit carries a code of conduct that also bars serving students affiliated with the tutor's own school. Hiring your child's own class teacher privately is therefore not the easy win it appears to be.

A business is a different animal from an individual. A tutoring operation with premises and staff in Dubai needs a KHDA Educational Services Permit for a training institute, with annual renewal requested at least thirty days before expiry. IB Gram holds no regulator permit of that kind and makes no such claim: it is a matching platform whose tutors teach online, and the permit question belongs to the individual tutor, verifiable by asking to see it.

What a paid tutor may and may not do with an IA, EE or TOK essay

  • Permitted: method teaching, criterion feedback on the student's own draft, referencing discipline
  • Not permitted: writing, completing, redrafting to finish, or supplying data or content
  • Published syllabus and criteria documents are referenced and linked, never reproduced
  • Ask any prospective tutor to state this boundary before you book

This is the boundary where money buys the most trouble. Internal assessments carry real weight in every Diploma subject, the Extended Essay and Theory of Knowledge feed the bonus points, and the deadlines land in the busiest months of DP1 and DP2. Demand for help is therefore intense, and part of this market has answered it by selling finished work. One operator in this search publishes a price for completed Internal Assessments; that is academic malpractice under IB rules and the consequence falls on the student, not the seller.

The permitted version is narrower and genuinely useful. A tutor can teach the method: how to narrow a research question until it is answerable in the word count, how an experimental design controls a variable, how to read the published criteria descriptors and recognise what each one is asking for. A tutor can read the student's own draft and say which criterion is weak and why. A tutor can teach referencing and citation properly, which prevents the accidental breaches that cause most trouble.

What a tutor must never do is produce the work. No writing the IA, no redrafting it to completion, no supplying the data, no handing over a structure that only needs filling in. IB Gram's position is explicit about this, and it is stated here rather than buried, because the families who get burned are usually the ones who were never told where the line sat.

There is also a practical reason to accept the boundary. An IA the student did not write cannot be defended in a viva or a follow-up conversation with a supervisor, and it teaches nothing that transfers to the written papers, which carry the larger share of the grade. IB Internal Assessment support in Dubai is worth paying for when it makes the student better at the next one.

08

Equivalency, attestation and what money cannot accelerate

Al Sufouh families planning on a UAE university place meet the Ministry of Education equivalency process, and it is worth understanding before paying anyone to help with it. For the British track the published requirement is five accredited subjects in GCSE or IGCSE certificates with a grade no lower than E or grade 3, plus either one accredited subject at Advanced Level with a grade no lower than E or two accredited subjects at Advanced Subsidiary Level at the same grade.

Two details inside that matter to planning. Arabic and Islamic education are not included among the five required subjects, which changes how a student counts their certificate list. And the subject count is five, not six, although at least one ranking competitor in this market publishes six; a wrong number on a regulatory requirement is the kind of error that costs a family a year.

For the American track the published requirements are different again: English proficiency through a score of 5 in the IELTS academic test, 61 in the TOEFL iBT, or 450 in the reading and writing section of the SAT, and mathematics through at least 450 in the SAT Math test before applying. For the IB specifically, no points threshold is published that this page can verify, so none is stated here. Check it on moe.gov.ae or with the school's IB coordinator and treat any site quoting a confident IB number without a source with suspicion.

Equivalency is a documentation process run by the Ministry and the emirate attestation authorities. IB Gram does not perform it, cannot expedite it and makes no claim about it. Tutoring is not a requirement for equivalency, university admission or school progression, and anybody telling you otherwise is selling urgency rather than teaching.

09

Starting, pausing and stopping without wasting money

  • A free trial lesson before any payment, in the real subject at the real level
  • Six-week blocks with a written topic list, not long prepaid packages
  • Pausing for holidays, travel or exam weeks carries no penalty
  • If no specialist is free, you are told, not substituted

The first step costs nothing. A free trial lesson with a matched specialist, one hour, in the actual subject and at the actual level, is the only reliable way to find out whether this particular tutor and this particular student work. A trial is not a sales call: the student brings their last assessment or a piece of work they struggled with, and the hour is spent on it.

After the trial the useful commitment is small and time-boxed. One subject, one hour a week, six weeks, with a written list of the topics being addressed. At week six the list either has ticks against it or it does not, and that is a decision a parent can make without a progress meeting. Buying twenty-four sessions up front removes exactly that decision point.

Pausing should be free and frequent. Dubai school holidays, family travel, a heavy internal-assessment fortnight and the exam period itself are all reasons to stop for a few weeks, and a structure that penalises pausing quietly converts into unused hours. Online delivery makes the opposite move possible too: a student travelling over the winter break can keep the same tutor and the same slot, which is not an option when the model depends on somebody driving to a Dubai address.

The last honest point concerns availability. Some combinations are scarce: Higher Level Physics in the week before mocks, Computer Science at Higher Level, Arabic as a first language for a specific MoE-mandated stream. If no specialist is free for the slot a family needs, the right answer is to say so and offer the nearest real alternative, rather than to fill the slot with someone who does not teach the course. An IB Higher Level tutor in Dubai who is honest about the diary is worth more than a confident one who is not.

Where we tutor

Nearby areas we cover around Al Sufouh

Al Sufouh is small, and almost every tutoring decision here is shaped by what sits either side of it: Knowledge Park and Media City to the south-west, Al Barsha inland, Umm Suqeim along the coast. The notes below are about cost and timing in each pocket, because that is what changes from street to street.

Al Sufouh 1

Villa plots and compounds between Al Sufouh Road and the beach. Families here are typically within a ten-minute drive of three or four schools, which makes in-home tutoring look cheap until the tutor's return journey is priced in. Online removes that line item entirely.

Al Sufouh 2

Closer to Knowledge Park and the university campuses, with a mix of villas and low-rise apartments. The proximity to student populations is why the budget AED 45-150 tier is easy to find here, and why checking what subject and level a tutor actually sat matters more than usual.

Dubai Knowledge Park and Media City

Offices and training institutes, not schools. Parents often assume a centre here is a cheaper route than one-to-one, and group rates of AED 90-180 per student do look lower per hour, until the group's pace stops matching one student's gaps.

Al Barsha and Al Barsha 1

The inland side of the catchment and where most of the in-home tutor supply sits. A 16:00 booking from Al Barsha into Al Sufouh crosses Hessa Street at its worst, which is the single clearest illustration of what the travel premium pays for.

Umm Suqeim and Al Manara

North-east along the beach road, with several schools running the IB continuum and others running IGCSE into A Level. Two neighbours can therefore need entirely different subject specialists in the same term, and a shared group booking rarely serves both.

Dubai Marina and JBR

High-density apartments ten minutes down the coast. Tutors who service the Marina often quote Al Sufouh at the same rate and then add the journey to the slot, which is how a 17:00 session becomes a 17:25 start.

The Greens and The Views

A short inland hop from Al Sufouh with a large IB-school population. Families here frequently share recommendations with Al Sufouh neighbours, so the same tutor names circulate; the rate they quote is worth comparing against the published market bands rather than against each other.

Palm Jumeirah

Reached by the one causeway, which makes in-home scheduling least forgiving of anywhere in the cluster. It is the clearest case in this part of Dubai where an online hour is a full hour and an in-home hour is not.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Tell us the subject, the level and the deadline

Not "maths help" but "Analysis and Approaches at Higher Level, Paper 3, mocks in January". The level and the component decide which tutor fits, and the deadline decides how the weeks are organised. A recent assessment or a marked piece of work is worth more than a paragraph of description.

  2. 02

We match on subject and level, then send the trial slot

Matching is done against the course the student is actually sitting, not against a general subject area. You are told who the tutor is, what they teach and why they were chosen, before the trial. If nothing suitable is free for your window, you are told that instead of being offered a substitute.

  3. 03

    Take the free trial lesson

One hour, one-to-one, over live video on Gulf Standard Time, with the student's own work in front of them. No payment is taken before this happens. At the end you should know whether the tutor understood the problem, and the student should have been told something specific they did not know that morning.

  4. 04

Agree a six-week block and a topic list

A short written list of what is being fixed, a fixed weekly slot, and a review at week six. Rates are agreed in AED against the subject and level before the block starts, and nothing rolls over automatically. Pausing for travel, holidays or an assessment fortnight costs nothing.

  5. 05

Review against the list, then decide

At six weeks the topic list is either closed or it is not, and the tutor says which. From there a family continues, changes subject, changes tutor or stops. That decision point is the whole point of the structure, and it is why long prepaid packages are not offered.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

Prices are published, with sources

Every AED figure on this page is market context attributed to the provider that published it, and none of it is presented as an IB Gram price list. Three of the strongest competitors in this search publish no price at all; one asks the question in its own FAQ and then declines to answer it.

Matched on subject and level, not on postcode

The tutor is chosen from everyone who teaches the student's actual course, not from the few specialists who happen to live within a short drive of Al Sufouh. On a small catchment like this one, that difference decides whether a Higher Level subject gets a Higher Level teacher.

The full hour is teaching time

Lessons run one-to-one over live video, so no part of the rate pays for a drive down Hessa Street at four in the afternoon and no session starts twenty minutes late because the Sheikh Zayed Road exit was blocked. Sessions can also move or split when the school week demands it.

The academic honesty line is stated, not implied

Tutors teach method, give feedback on the student's own drafts and coach the process for an IA, Extended Essay or TOK essay. They do not write, complete or redraft assessed work. That boundary is written down here because the student carries the consequence when it is crossed.

Regulators are explained, never claimed

KHDA inspects Dubai's private schools and its ratings are published on its own site; the MoHRE permit governs individual tutors. IB Gram holds no approval, accreditation or partnership from KHDA, MoHRE, the Ministry of Education, the IB or any examination board, and does not suggest otherwise.

A trial before any money moves

A free trial lesson in the real subject at the real level, then a six-week block with a written topic list. No long prepaid package, no penalty for pausing during Dubai school holidays or exam weeks, and an honest answer when a specialist is not available for the slot you need.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Al Sufouh: your questions answered

How much does an IB tutor near me in Al Sufouh cost per hour?+

Market rates in Dubai for IB tutoring run roughly AED 200 to AED 450 an hour for a subject specialist, with Bestimate publishing that band for IB, IGCSE and A-Level specialists and TutorChase quoting AED 270. Below that, qualified online subject teachers are published from around AED 150 to AED 300, and budget online tutoring starts near AED 45. In-home visits in Dubai are quoted at AED 180 to AED 500 an hour because the drive is inside the rate. Those are market figures, not an IB Gram price list; the honest first step here is a free trial lesson and a conversation about the subject and the number of weeks left.

Is online IB tutoring genuinely cheaper than a home tutor for an Al Sufouh family?+

On published rates, yes: the online specialist band sits below the in-home band by roughly AED 50 to AED 200 an hour, and the gap is travel rather than teaching. The larger saving is in delivered minutes. An in-home session in Al Sufouh commits the tutor to forty to ninety minutes of driving, which is priced in and often enforced as a two-hour minimum booking. Online, the hour starts on the hour. IB Gram does not offer home visits anywhere in the UAE; in-home teaching is a service that exists only in India, and UAE lessons are one-to-one over live video.

Why do IB rates run higher than IGCSE rates in Dubai?+

Two reasons, and both are visible in the published bands. The pool of tutors who can teach a Diploma course at Higher Level is smaller than the pool who can teach IGCSE, because the content sits a year or two beyond A-Level foundations in several subjects. Scarcity moves price. The second reason is component complexity: a Higher Level Paper 3, an Internal Assessment and a Theory of Knowledge essay are three different skills, and a tutor who can handle all three has invested time most generalists have not. Unitors publishes IGCSE from AED 150 and IB from AED 200, which is the clearest illustration available.

What should an Al Sufouh family budget per month for one IB subject?+

Published monthly estimates for weekly one-hour sessions run at roughly AED 240 to AED 600 at the budget tier, AED 600 to AED 1,200 in the middle, and AED 1,000 to AED 2,000 or more for specialist exam-year support. Those are Bestimate's figures. For planning across the two Diploma years, one subject at the mid band comes to somewhere between AED 14,000 and AED 29,000 in total, which is worth knowing before the first booking rather than after the eighteenth. The number usually leads families to concentrate spend on one or two subjects in the periods where it converts.

Does a quoted Dubai tutoring rate include VAT?+

Ask, every time, and get the answer in writing before the first session. This page does not state the UAE VAT treatment of tuition fees, because that is a Federal Tax Authority question and no FTA citation is being relied on here. What a parent can and should establish is simple: whether the AED figure quoted to them is the figure that will be invoiced, whether the provider holds a tax registration number, and whether any booking or platform fee sits on top. A provider who cannot answer those three questions clearly is telling you something useful about their administration.

Do IB tutoring rates in Dubai rise as the May exams approach?+

Availability tightens rather than list prices changing, and the effect on a family's bill is the same. In the twelve weeks before the May session the specialists with strong reputations fill their diaries, so what remains is either a less experienced tutor at the same rate or a premium individual quoting at the top of the market, where published figures reach AED 650 an hour. The practical consequence is that a steady weekly hour held from September costs less in total than a compressed block bought in February, and it secures the tutor you actually want.

How long should an Al Sufouh family give a new tutor before judging the match?+

Six, with a written list of the topics being addressed, after a free trial lesson. Six weeks is long enough for a tutor to see a pattern in the student's work rather than a single bad afternoon, and short enough that a family is not committed to a plan nobody is measuring. At week six the topic list is either closed or it is not. Prepaid packages of twenty or thirty sessions remove that decision point, which is precisely why they are easy to sell and easy to underuse.

Can one tutor cover both of my child's Higher Level subjects?+

Sometimes, and it is worth asking, but do not treat it as a saving by default. Some combinations sit naturally with one specialist, particularly Mathematics with Physics, where the same algebraic fluency serves both. Others do not: Higher Level Chemistry and Higher Level Economics have nothing in common at the level of mark schemes and command terms. The test is whether the tutor has taught both courses at that level, not whether they feel confident. Two specialists at one hour each will usually beat one generalist at two hours.

Does a private tutor in Dubai need a permit, and can I check it myself?+

Yes, and yes. Private tutoring in the UAE requires the MoHRE private tuition work permit, introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023 and granted free of charge for two years. MoHRE's own service page lists a two-working-day completion time, with applications through the MoHRE smart app, website and e-services system. Because it costs nothing and takes two days, a tutor without one has either not bothered or is not eligible. Ask to see the permit rather than a description of it. Those tutoring without a permit face fines and penalties under the applicable laws; no fine schedule has been published.

What extras tend to appear on a Dubai tutoring invoice?+

Four recur. A minimum booking length, often two hours for an in-home visit, which turns a one-hour need into a two-hour charge. A travel or fuel line for addresses outside the tutor's usual radius, which Al Sufouh sometimes is. A registration or matching fee charged once before any teaching happens. And a materials charge for printed past papers and worksheets. None of these is unreasonable if disclosed in advance; all of them are worth asking about before the first session rather than after the first invoice.

Is a group class in Al Barsha better value than one-to-one online?+

Per hour, a centre group of two to four is published at roughly AED 90 to AED 180 per student, which is genuinely lower. The question is what the hour contains. A group moves at one pace, and the specific reason a student is losing marks, say unjustified steps in a method-marked calculus question, cannot be addressed without stopping the group. Add the drive to Al Barsha or Knowledge Park and the fixed weekly slot, and the saving narrows. Groups suit broad revision of shared content; they do not suit a diagnosed individual gap.

Will a tutor write my child's Internal Assessment if we pay extra?+

No, and any provider who agrees to is putting your child at risk rather than helping them. Producing an Internal Assessment, Extended Essay or TOK essay for a student is academic malpractice under IB rules, and the consequence lands on the candidate. One operator in this market publishes a price for completed IAs, which is exactly the practice to avoid. What a tutor can legitimately do is teach the method, help narrow the research question, read the student's own drafts and give feedback against the published criteria, and teach referencing properly.

Do we keep paying through Dubai school holidays and travel weeks?+

You should not have to, and a structure that penalises pausing is one to avoid. Dubai's academic year has substantial breaks, families here travel, and there are fortnights in DP1 and DP2 where internal assessment deadlines leave no room for anything else. Pausing a weekly online slot for three weeks and resuming with the same tutor costs nothing. Online delivery also allows the opposite choice: a student abroad over the winter break can keep the same tutor and the same hour, which is impossible when the model depends on somebody travelling to a Dubai address.

What happens if no specialist is free for the subject we need?+

You are told. Certain combinations are genuinely scarce, particularly Higher Level Physics and Computer Science in the weeks around mocks, and Arabic as a first language for the KHDA-mandated stream. The wrong response is to fill the slot with a tutor who does not teach that course and hope the parent cannot tell, which is common in this market. The right response is to say what is unavailable, offer the nearest genuine alternative, give an honest timeline for the specialist you asked for, and let the family choose with the facts in front of them.

Does paying for tutoring help with UAE Ministry of Education equivalency?+

Not directly, and nobody should sell it that way. Equivalency is a documentation process run by the Ministry of Education and the emirate attestation authorities, assessed against published requirements. For the British track that means five accredited GCSE or IGCSE subjects at no less than grade E or 3, with Arabic and Islamic education excluded from the count, plus one Advanced Level at E or two Advanced Subsidiary subjects at the same grade. Tutoring can help a student reach those grades. It cannot accelerate the process, and IB Gram does not perform or guarantee any part of it.

Start with the numbers, then book one free hour

An Al Sufouh family searching for an IB tutor near me in Al Sufouh deserves the prices before the pitch, which is why the AED bands on this page carry the name of whoever published them. The next step is small: tell us the subject, the level and the deadline, take a free trial lesson one-to-one over live video, and decide afterwards. If the subject is scarce in the week you need it, you will be told that rather than matched with someone who does not teach the course. Nothing is prepaid, nothing rolls over, and pausing for travel or exam weeks costs nothing.
