IB Chemistry Tutor in Al Sufouh

An IB chemistry tutor in Al Sufouh has to fit into a day that is already full. School finishes somewhere between two and half past three, a creativity, activity and service commitment takes the next hour, and the drive back from Knowledge Park or Media City takes what is left. This page is built around that timetable: which schools Al Sufouh feeds, when the day actually ends, and when a chemistry session can realistically happen. Lessons run live online in Gulf Standard Time.

IB & IGCSE in Al Sufouh

The hour you can actually book decides everything else

Families in Al Sufouh usually start a tutoring search by looking for competence and finish it by losing to the calendar. The tutor is good, the first three sessions go well, and then a Thursday fixture moves, the drive from Dubai Internet City runs long twice in a fortnight, and by December the arrangement has quietly stopped. For a two-year Diploma subject that is worse than never starting, because chemistry is cumulative: a fortnight missed in the middle of energetics does not stay a fortnight's problem.

So the first thing to establish is not who teaches chemistry well. It is what hour of the week this household can reliably protect. Dubai secondary school days typically finish between two o'clock and half past three depending on the school and the phase, and a Diploma student's day rarely ends there. Creativity, activity and service commitments, subject clinics, music, fixtures and the bus all occupy the first hour or two after the bell. A session pencilled in at four is frequently a session attended at four for three weeks and then abandoned.

Geography inside this small catchment makes a surprising difference. Al Sufouh 1 and Al Sufouh 2 sit on the coastal strip, and a student at a school in the same strip can be at a desk by half past four with no drama. A household in Dubai Knowledge Park with both parents working past five needs a later slot and needs it fixed. A family in Dubai Media City or Dubai Internet City is realistically available from six at the earliest, and Dubai Marina and JBR add the evening congestion on limited access roads. None of this is unusual, and all of it is predictable, which means it can be planned rather than discovered.

This is where delivery format stops being a marketing point and becomes the whole argument. A visiting tutor's day has a hard ceiling: their last booking plus the drive after it. That is why in-home availability in New Dubai thins sharply after seven, and why the slot a family can actually protect is often the slot no visiting tutor can supply. IB Gram delivers tuition for UAE families as one-to-one online tuition over live video, scheduled in Gulf Standard Time. IB Gram does not send tutors to homes anywhere in the UAE; home visiting is a service offered only in India. A seven or eight o'clock slot costs nothing extra to supply when nobody is driving.

What this page does, then, is work from the timetable outwards. It names the schools Al Sufouh actually feeds and what they sit, maps the school day against realistic session windows, identifies which chemistry topics need consecutive weeks and therefore cannot survive an unreliable slot, and prices the travel premium honestly so a family can see what the extra money in an in-home quote is buying. The chemistry comes second here, deliberately, because an excellent chemistry tutor in an impossible slot teaches nobody.

At a glance

  • Dubai secondary days typically end between 2pm and 3.30pm; Diploma students rarely leave then
  • Al Sufouh coastal-strip students can start by 4.30pm; Media City households usually cannot
  • In-home availability thins after 7pm because a visiting tutor's day ends with a drive
  • Chemistry is cumulative, so an unreliable slot costs more than a weaker tutor would
  • Online slots in Gulf Standard Time run into the evening and move post-Iftar in Ramadan
  • Energetics, equilibrium and organic mechanisms need consecutive weeks to hold
IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Chemistry appears at three points in an Al Sufouh family's school life, and each sits differently in the week. The notes below separate them by how much weekly time each actually demands, because that is the planning constraint rather than difficulty.

DPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

Diploma Programme Chemistry

The current chemistry guide organises content into structure and reactivity units: models of the particulate nature of matter, models of bonding and structure, classification of matter, what drives chemical reactions, how much and how fast and how far, and the mechanisms of chemical change. Standard and Higher Level share a core with Higher Level extending several units. Assessment is Paper 1 at thirty-six per cent, Paper 2 at forty-four, and the scientific investigation at twenty.

In Al Sufouh the Diploma chemistry set is often small enough that Standard and Higher Level students share a teacher and the Higher Level extension is delivered in extra sessions. That matters for scheduling: a Higher Level student may already be giving up a lunch hour or an after-school slot to the school, and a tutoring session has to sit outside that rather than compete with it.

MYPAges 11-16 · MYP 1-5

Middle Years Programme Sciences

Assessed against four criteria rather than papers: knowing and understanding, inquiring and designing, processing and evaluating, and reflecting on the impacts of science, each marked out of eight. MYP 4 and 5 chemistry introduces the quantitative work that the Diploma builds on, and the inquiring-and-designing criterion is the direct ancestor of the Diploma investigation's research design.

MYP students in this catchment finish the school day at a similar hour to Diploma students but carry fewer evening commitments, which makes a four or half past four slot genuinely available. That is the age at which a weekly chemistry habit is easiest to establish, and it is also the cheapest time to establish it.

IGCSEAges 14-16 · Years 10-11

IGCSE chemistry into Diploma chemistry

Students arriving from Cambridge 0620 or Pearson 4CH1 have met moles, bonding, rates and organic chemistry in a form rewarding recall and single-step calculation. Diploma chemistry asks for multi-step reasoning, uncertainty treatment and explanation that connects a model to an observation. The gap shows first in energetics and in anything requiring a mechanism rather than a product.

Dubai's UK-curriculum schools hold 37 per cent of private enrolment against 7 per cent for the International Baccalaureate, so the IGCSE-to-Diploma crossover is routine here. Year 11 students have a lighter evening than Diploma students, which is why the transition is best supported in the summer before Year 12 rather than during it.

CoreAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

The Diploma core competing for the same evenings

Theory of Knowledge, the Extended Essay and creativity, activity and service run alongside the six subjects and occupy exactly the hours a tutoring session wants. A student writing a chemistry Extended Essay is carrying independent research on top of the scientific investigation, and the two have separate school deadlines that rarely sit kindly together.

Al Sufouh Diploma students typically hold an activity commitment immediately after school. Mapping the core deadlines onto the tutoring calendar in the first month of Year 12 is what prevents a family paying for sessions in weeks when the student has three other submissions due.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

Chemistry is the subject here, and the entries below are what Al Sufouh families most often request alongside it, with a note on the weekly time each actually takes. Timetable load is the deciding factor in whether one tutor or two is sensible.

Chemistry

HL and SL

Structure and reactivity units assessed by two papers and a scientific investigation. The reliable losses are energetics sign conventions, equilibrium questions answered qualitatively where a calculation was wanted, and organic responses that name a product without giving a mechanism. Higher Level depth in reactivity and in the mechanisms unit is where generalist science tutors most often stop.

Chemistry Paper 1, data-based section

HL and SL

Presents unfamiliar data and asks for processing and interpretation rather than recall. Students who revise content alone meet it unprepared. It is also among the most trainable parts of the course, because the required moves recur: identify the variable, read a gradient with units, decide whether a point is anomalous, and state what the uncertainty does to the conclusion.

Biology

HL and SL

Frequently taken with chemistry by students heading towards medicine or life sciences. It shares the investigation structure and the four assessment criteria, so good practice transfers. Content overlap is thin, so two subjects normally means two tutors, and the weekly load of two science investigations in the same term is a real scheduling problem.

Physics

HL and SL

Taken with chemistry by engineering-bound students. The shared ground is uncertainty handling, graph work and proportional reasoning rather than content. A student losing marks to units and precision in both subjects has one problem appearing twice, which can be closed once if the tutor teaches both.

Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches

HL and SL

Chemistry assumes logarithms for pH work, rearrangement for the gas and equilibrium expressions, and comfort with proportional reasoning throughout. A student fluent in a maths lesson who stalls when the same manipulation appears inside a chemistry question has a transfer problem, and that is a specific and short piece of work.

Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation

HL and SL

A workable pairing with chemistry, though it spends less time on algebraic manipulation than the chemistry calculations assume. Students on this route taking Higher Level chemistry usually need some explicit algebra support that the mathematics course itself will not supply.

Environmental Systems and Societies

SL

Taken alongside or instead of a second science by some Al Sufouh students. It carries its own internal assessment and its own deadlines, which is relevant to the calendar rather than to the chemistry. Where a student holds this and chemistry, the two coursework cycles should be mapped before either begins.

Theory of Knowledge

Core requirement

The natural sciences are one of the areas of knowledge TOK examines, and chemistry students are often asked to write about models and evidence. A tutor can discuss knowledge questions and interrogate an argument's structure, and cannot write the essay or the exhibition commentary. That boundary is stated before any work starts.

Extended Essay in chemistry

Core requirement

Independent research with its own criteria and word limit, supervised by a school-appointed supervisor. A tutor may discuss feasibility, question the scope of a research question and give feedback on the student's own draft, and may not write, draft or complete it. The student signs any authenticity declaration the school requires.

Arabic and the UAE mandatory subjects

First and additional language

Arabic, Islamic Education and Social or Moral Studies run in every Dubai private school alongside the licensed international curriculum, including IB Diploma schools. KHDA calculates instructional time on a forty-minute lesson unit and advises that any mandatory subject lesson runs at least twenty-five minutes, which is part of why the school day ends when it does.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three formats, described by where they sit in a week rather than by what they cost, because the week is the binding constraint for a Diploma chemistry student in this catchment. All three run online over live video.

One protected weekly evening slot

The same hour on the same evening across Years 12 and 13, chosen after the activity commitment rather than before it. This is the format chemistry needs most, because the subject is cumulative and a fortnight lost mid-topic is not a fortnight's worth of damage. Choosing a later, defendable hour beats choosing an earlier, optimistic one.

  • One fixed evening, agreed around the real end of the school day
  • Topic order matched to the school's own scheme of work
  • Session notes so a missed week can be recovered rather than repeated
  • Travel and exam weeks paused rather than billed

Consecutive-week topic block

A short run of three to five sessions in successive weeks aimed at one topic that cannot be split: energetics, equilibrium, acids and bases, or organic mechanisms. Booked deliberately in a clear stretch of the school calendar rather than squeezed between mock weeks, which is when these blocks usually fail.

  • Scheduled into a clear stretch, checked against the school calendar
  • One topic held across consecutive weeks without interruption
  • Prerequisite checked before the block begins rather than during it
  • Ends with a timed section on that topic, marked

Investigation and coursework window

Sessions concentrated in the weeks the school's own internal deadlines fall, working on the scientific investigation to its four criteria. The tutor questions the research question, interrogates the method, asks what the data supports and gives feedback on the student's draft. The tutor does not write, draft or produce the work.

  • Planned backwards from the school's internal deadline
  • Research question tested for feasibility before data collection
  • Feedback referenced to the published criteria rather than general quality
  • The boundary on what a tutor will not do stated at the first session

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Al Sufouh

01

The Al Sufouh school run, mapped onto bookable hours

The table below is the practical core of this page. It maps the communities an Al Sufouh chemistry student travels between against the hour a session can realistically begin. End-of-day times vary by school, by phase and by term, so the finish column is a typical band for a Dubai secondary day rather than a statement about a named school, and your own school's calendar is the authority. What does not vary much is the shape: the bell, then an activity or clinic, then the journey, then food, then a usable hour.

Reading the table, two things become obvious. The first is that the slot most families try first, somewhere around four o'clock, works properly only for students who finish early and live within the coastal strip. Everyone else is agreeing to a time that will hold for a few weeks and then start slipping. The second is that the hour which actually works for most of this catchment, between half past six and eight, is exactly the hour a visiting tutor is least able to supply, because their day has already ended with a drive.

The right way to use this is to pick the latest hour the student will still be functional at, not the earliest hour that is free. A Diploma student doing chemistry at four o'clock after a full day and a fixture is present but not learning, and the session gets paid for anyway. A student doing chemistry at half past seven, having eaten, with the school's own notes open, is a different student. Families often resist the later slot because it feels like it intrudes on the evening, and then lose the arrangement entirely two months later.

Ramadan reshapes this whole table for a month, and it falls inside the UAE academic year. School hours shorten and evening study migrates to after Iftar. Sessions can move to a post-Iftar time for the month and move back afterwards, and agreeing that in advance rather than improvising it mid-month is what protects the investigation timetable, which is the part of Diploma chemistry least able to absorb three disrupted weeks.

Which schools Al Sufouh feeds, and what they actually sit

  • Dubai College and GEMS Wellington International School sit inside Al Sufouh
  • Al Barsha's cluster is fifteen minutes inland across Sheikh Zayed Road
  • A small Diploma set often means Higher Level extension taught outside the timetable
  • The IB accounted for 7 per cent of Dubai private enrolment in 2024-25

Al Sufouh is a narrow strip with an unusually dense school supply for its size. Dubai College sits inside it, running the British pathway. GEMS Wellington International School sits inside it, offering the IB Diploma alongside a British route. Regent International School sits just along in the Greens, and Emirates International School in Jumeirah draws from the same side of town. Across Sheikh Zayed Road, within fifteen minutes in reasonable traffic, are the American School of Dubai, Dubai American Academy, Kings' School Al Barsha and Al Mawakeb School Al Barsha. Inland sit Dubai British School Emirates Hills and Dubai International Academy Emirates Hills.

That mix matters for a chemistry parent in a specific way. The schools in this catchment sit students for different qualifications, so a neighbour's chemistry experience may not be your child's. One street can contain a Diploma Higher Level chemistry student, an A Level chemistry student and an American-track student taking a different course entirely. Asking what a neighbour's tutor is like is useful; assuming the tutor is teaching your child's course is not.

The Diploma sets in this area tend to be small, which has two consequences worth planning for. The first is that Standard and Higher Level chemistry students often share a teacher, with the Higher Level extension content delivered in additional sessions outside the main timetable. A Higher Level student may therefore already be giving up a lunchtime or an after-school hour to the school. A tutoring slot has to sit outside that rather than compete with it.

The second is that a small set can be short of a specialism in any given year. A school may be strong across the sciences and thin in one unit of the chemistry guide, usually the mechanisms or the energetics material, simply because of who is teaching it that year. That is the situation in which private support is genuinely useful, and it is also a situation a parent can check cheaply by asking the student which topic the class as a whole found hardest. Dubai's private sector served 387,441 students across 227 private schools in 2024-25, with the International Baccalaureate accounting for 7 per cent of enrolment, so Diploma sets everywhere in the emirate are smaller than British-curriculum sets.

03

The chemistry topics that need consecutive weeks

Chemistry is not uniformly cumulative. Some topics can be picked up in a single session and parked: naming conventions, basic stoichiometry practice, a specific calculation type. Others collapse if the weekly slot is unreliable, because each session depends on the previous one being fresh. Knowing which is which is how a family decides whether a four o'clock slot that holds two weeks in three is acceptable, and for the topics in the table below it is not.

Energetics is the clearest case. Sign conventions, enthalpy cycles and the relationship between bond enthalpies and reaction enthalpies form a single chain of reasoning, and a student who meets the second half of it a fortnight after the first half will reconstruct the wrong version. Equilibrium behaves the same way: the qualitative reasoning and the quantitative expression have to be learned together, or a student ends up able to predict a shift and unable to calculate one.

Organic mechanisms are the most unforgiving. The difference between a student who can name a product and one who can explain a mechanism is a set of habits built over consecutive attempts: identifying the electron-rich and electron-poor sites, drawing curly arrows that start and end in defensible places, and recognising a reaction type rather than memorising a transformation. Spread that over interrupted weeks and the student retains a list of names, which is what most Standard Level candidates arrive at the paper with.

The planning consequence is practical. Book the consecutive-week topics into a clear stretch of the school calendar, away from mock weeks and away from the scientific investigation's internal deadline, and protect them. Leave the single-session topics for the weeks when the calendar is messy. A tutor who will not plan with you at this level of detail is a tutor who will be surprised by February, and so will you.

What the travel premium actually buys in this catchment

Al Sufouh families comparing an in-home chemistry quote with an online one are usually comparing similar money. The published in-home band in Dubai is AED 180 to AED 350 an hour including travel at Bestimate, with independently advertised home tutors at AED 200 to AED 500. The online specialist band is AED 200 to AED 450 and above, with TutorChase publishing AED 270. Qualified subject tutors online are quoted from AED 200 for IB at Unitors. Premium named tutors reach AED 650 at BartyED, and the budget end of the market advertises from AED 33 to AED 52 at Tutopiya and AED 45 to AED 65 at EdFlik. Every one of those is a market figure published by the provider named and read in October 2026, not an IB Gram price.

Since the bands overlap, the useful question is what the travel component is purchasing. Honestly: a person in the room, and the last hour of the tutor's working day. That is the trade. A visiting tutor who finishes at Al Barsha at six is not starting in Al Sufouh at half past six, and the slot that most of this catchment can actually protect, between half past six and eight, is the slot their day has already spent. The premium therefore buys presence at an hour that is often not the hour you need.

There is a second cost that does not appear in the rate at all: fragility. One closure on Al Sufouh Road, one long evening at the Sheikh Zayed interchanges, and the session is cancelled, shortened or rescheduled, and when a tutor has already travelled a cancelled session is frequently still billed. Across a two-year chemistry course a family losing four sessions a term to logistics loses a topic, and for the topics in the previous table losing a topic is not a linear loss.

Presence is still worth buying for some students, and that should be said plainly rather than argued away. A younger student who will not engage with a screen, or a household where supervision is the real requirement, is buying something real. For a sixteen or seventeen year old working through an enthalpy cycle, a shared screen holding the question, the markscheme and the student's own working is frequently the better tool. IB Gram does not sell home visits in Dubai and does not dispatch tutors to UAE addresses; home visiting is an India-only service, and families who need presence should hire locally for it.

The scientific investigation, and when it has to happen

  • Four criteria at six marks each, twenty-four in total, twenty per cent of the grade
  • Internal deadlines are set by the school and must be obtained from the coordinator
  • Chemistry evaluations lose marks by discussing equipment and ignoring the chemistry
  • Laboratory work belongs to the school; tutoring covers design and analysis

The scientific investigation carries twenty per cent of the chemistry grade and is assessed on four criteria, each worth six marks for a total of twenty-four: research design, data analysis, conclusion and evaluation. Its deadlines are set by the school, not by a published general calendar, which is why the first thing to ask the DP coordinator is when the internal deadlines fall. A support plan built against a guessed date collides with the school's calendar in the worst possible term.

The equal weighting across the four criteria is what students most often fail to act on. Effort concentrates on getting data, which sits inside one criterion, while evaluation carries exactly the same six marks and is far more improvable. In chemistry specifically, evaluation marks go begging because students write about equipment accuracy and ignore the chemistry: whether the reaction went to completion, whether a side reaction competed, whether the assumption that heat loss was negligible actually held in their set-up.

Research design is the other criterion where chemistry students lose avoidable marks, usually by choosing a research question that cannot be answered with the equipment a school laboratory holds. A tutor can test that before any data is collected, which is a short conversation that saves a term. Laboratory work itself belongs to the school, with its equipment, technician support and supervision requirement, and no tutoring arrangement should claim to replace it.

The boundary is firm and it should be stated to the student before any work starts. A tutor may discuss candidate research questions and say which will not generate enough usable data, question whether a method controls what it claims to, ask what the uncertainty implies for the conclusion, and give feedback on a draft the student has written. A tutor may not write, draft, complete or produce the investigation, and should not edit it until the voice is no longer the student's. Where a school requires an authenticity declaration, the candidate signs it. One operator in this market advertises completed Internal Assessments at a fixed price, which places a malpractice exposure on the student rather than on the seller.

06

Mock weeks, the UAE calendar and the weeks not to book

  • Front-load before mock weeks; pause or lighten during them
  • Agree post-Iftar timing before Ramadan rather than during it
  • Follow the student into coursework in the weeks before an internal deadline
  • One conversation in September prevents all three collisions

A chemistry support plan that ignores the school calendar will buy sessions in the worst weeks of the year. There are three predictable collisions in this catchment and all three are avoidable with one conversation in September.

The first is mock weeks. A school running mocks across two weeks will take the student's evenings for revision across four subjects at once, and a chemistry session dropped into the middle of that is a session the student cannot prepare for. The sensible pattern is to front-load chemistry work in the fortnight before mocks and to pause or lighten during them, rather than to pay the same weekly fee for a session nobody can use.

The second is Ramadan, which falls within the UAE academic year. School hours shorten, and evening study moves to after Iftar. Sessions can shift to a post-Iftar slot for the month. What breaks plans is improvising this in the second week rather than agreeing it in advance, because a month of missed or half-attended sessions in the middle of the course lands exactly where the consecutive-week topics sit.

The third is the scientific investigation's internal deadline, which the school sets. In the three or four weeks before it, a Diploma chemistry student is doing coursework rather than content, and a tutoring session should follow them into the coursework rather than continuing to deliver the syllabus. Families who do not plan for this end up paying for content sessions the student is too busy to absorb, and then paying again for coursework support after the deadline has passed, which is the most avoidable double cost in the whole arrangement.

07

Checking a chemistry tutor before the first session

  • The MoHRE private tuition permit is free of charge and valid for two years
  • Your child's own subject teacher may not be permitted to tutor them for money
  • Ask whether the tutor teaches the current structure and reactivity organisation
  • A KHDA Educational Services Permit is a numbered document, not a phrase

Three checks, none of which costs anything, and all of which matter more than a credential list. The first is the permit. Private tutoring in the UAE is regulated: the private tuition work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023 and is granted free of charge for two years. MoHRE's own service page is Issuance of a New Work Permit - Private Tutor Licensing, listing no fees and a two-working-day completion time, applied for through the MoHRE smart app, website and e-services system. Eligible applicants include teachers registered in government or private schools, employees in the government and private sectors, unemployed individuals, university students and school students aged fifteen to eighteen. Individuals tutoring without a permit are subject to fines and penalties outlined in the applicable laws; no fine schedule is published, so no amount should be quoted to you.

A linked point about school staff, which matters in a catchment where everybody knows which teacher is strong. Abu Dhabi's professional-ethics rules for private and charter school staff prohibit teachers from providing paid private tutoring to students enrolled at their own school, and the MoHRE permit's code of conduct also bars serving students affiliated with the teacher's own school. This is press-reported and worth verifying against current policy, but the direction is clear: arranging for your child's own chemistry teacher to tutor them privately for money is arranging something the teacher may not be permitted to do.

The second check is the guide. Ask whether the tutor is teaching the current chemistry guide with its structure and reactivity organisation, or the previous syllabus with its separate options. A tutor planning against a structure that no longer exists will cover material the papers no longer ask for, and that is a term of paid sessions pointed at the wrong target. A tutor who has taught the current guide will describe the units without being prompted.

The third is the claim set. IB Gram holds no accreditation from the IB, from Cambridge, from Pearson, from KHDA, ADEK, SPEA, the Ministry of Education or MoHRE, and claims none. A tutoring business with premises and staff in Dubai needs a KHDA Educational Services Permit for a training institute, with initial approval first and annual renewal requested at least thirty days before expiry. Any provider calling itself approved by a regulator or a board should be asked to produce the permit or centre number. Nobody should be described as an IB examiner unless current examiner status can be evidenced, and examiner status should never be presented as access to marking or boundaries.

08

Why the slot matters more than the tutor's rate

  • Thirty-two held hours against twenty-one delivered is the real cost of a bad slot
  • Consecutive-week topics never complete cleanly on a one-week-in-three pattern
  • Find the hour first, then find the tutor who is free at it
  • An eight o'clock online slot costs nothing extra because nobody drives to it

This page has argued the timetable before the chemistry, and the reason is arithmetic rather than preference. A weekly session that holds for thirty-two weeks of an academic year delivers thirty-two hours. The same session at an optimistic four o'clock, holding two weeks in three once fixtures and traffic are counted, delivers twenty-one. The difference is eleven hours, which at the mid-market band is between AED 1,650 and AED 3,300 of value either delivered or not, and the price per hour was identical in both cases.

Chemistry punishes that unreliability more than most subjects because of the consecutive-week topics. Energetics, equilibrium, acids and bases and organic mechanisms each need three to six sessions in successive weeks, and a plan that drops one week in three will never complete any of them cleanly. The student ends up with partial versions of four chains of reasoning, which is a worse position than having completed two of them properly.

So the sequence a family should follow is: find the hour, then find the tutor. Pick the latest hour the student will still function at, after the activity commitment and the journey and food. Protect it in the calendar the way a school lesson is protected. Then look for somebody who teaches the current guide at the right level and is free at that hour. Doing it the other way round produces a good tutor in an impossible slot, which is the commonest failure in this catchment.

Online delivery is simply what makes the right hour purchasable. Lessons for UAE families are one-to-one online over live video in Gulf Standard Time, and an eight o'clock session costs nothing extra to supply because nobody is driving to it. IB Gram does not send tutors to homes anywhere in the UAE; home visiting is offered only in India. For a Diploma chemistry student in Al Sufouh, that is less a feature than the reason the plan survives to May.

Where we tutor

The communities Al Sufouh chemistry students commute from

Each note below is about the journey and the hour, because those are what decide whether a weekly chemistry slot survives a term in this part of Dubai.

Al Sufouh 1 and Al Sufouh 2

The coastal strip holding Dubai College and GEMS Wellington International School, with villa streets behind the main road. Students attending a school in the same strip can be home within fifteen minutes, which makes a half past four start genuinely workable once an activity commitment is accounted for.

Dubai Knowledge Park

Apartments and university campuses, with households where both parents commonly work past five. The practical slot here is seven or later, fixed to the same evening each week, because an inconsistent time is what ends arrangements rather than difficulty with the subject.

Dubai Media City

Workday-dominated apartment blocks immediately inland. Students travelling back here after an after-school commitment are rarely settled before six. A half past six slot is realistic; a four o'clock slot is theoretical and should not be agreed just because it is offered.

Dubai Internet City

Similar to Media City in rhythm, with the added friction of the Sheikh Zayed Road interchanges at the evening peak. Families here benefit most from a fixed online slot, because a session that depends on a journey depends on the junction.

Al Barsha 1

Across Sheikh Zayed Road, with the American School of Dubai, Dubai American Academy and Kings' School Al Barsha. The ten-minute hop looks trivial and is not at five o'clock on a Sunday, which is the slot families most often try first and abandon.

The Greens and The Views

Compact low-rise communities with Regent International School inside the Greens. Short internal journeys make an early slot possible, so this is one of the few parts of the catchment where a five o'clock chemistry session is realistic on most weeks.

Dubai Marina and JBR

Dense towers with limited access roads and heavy evening congestion. The failure mode here is a lost session rather than an unavailable tutor, and a session lost to traffic is frequently still a session billed when a tutor has already travelled.

Emirates Hills and the Springs

Inland villa districts served by Dubai British School Emirates Hills and Dubai International Academy Emirates Hills. Distances between villas cap a visiting tutor at two students an evening, which is why a late slot here is both scarce and expensive when bought in person.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in Al Sufouh

Al Sufouh and the Knowledge Park edge

The schools inside or bordering Al Sufouh. Between them they run the British pathway to A Level and the IB Diploma, so chemistry demand in these streets spans Diploma Standard and Higher Level alongside A Level chemistry. Phase end times vary by school and year group, so confirm your own against the school's calendar and its KHDA listing.

  • Dubai College
  • GEMS Wellington International School
  • Regent International School
  • Emirates International School - Jumeirah

Al Barsha and Umm Suqeim

The nearest large cluster inland, reached across Sheikh Zayed Road. American and British curricula dominate, with several schools running the IB Diploma alongside the main pathway. Students commuting back from here into Al Sufouh are the ones for whom an evening slot is not optional.

  • American School of Dubai
  • Dubai American Academy
  • Kings' School Al Barsha
  • Al Mawakeb School Al Barsha

Emirates Hills and the lakeside communities

Inland of the Greens, drawing from the Springs, the Meadows, the Lakes and Emirates Hills. Dubai International Academy Emirates Hills has run the Diploma for many years. Journey times from here into the coastal strip are the longest in this catchment at the evening peak.

  • Dubai International Academy Emirates Hills
  • Dubai British School Emirates Hills
  • Emirates International School - Meadows
  • Dubai British School Jumeirah Park

Schools are named to describe the Al Sufouh education ecosystem families here already navigate. No affiliation, endorsement or partnership with any named school or group is implied, and none exists. End-of-day times vary by school, phase and term and should be confirmed with the school directly.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Write down the real end of the school day

Note when the bell goes, what happens in the hour afterwards, how long the journey home takes at the peak, and when the student has eaten. That sequence, not the earliest free hour a tutor offers, is what determines the slot. Five minutes with a pen saves an arrangement that would otherwise quietly stop in December.

  2. 02

Ask the coordinator for the internal deadlines

The DP coordinator can confirm the level your child is entered at and when the school's own internal deadlines for the scientific investigation fall. Both are free and both shape the support calendar. A plan built against a guessed deadline collides with the school's own, usually in the busiest term of Year 13.

  3. 03

Pick the latest hour the student still functions at

Not the earliest one available. A session at four o'clock after a full day and a fixture is attended rather than used, and it is billed either way. Half past seven, after food, with the school's notes open, is a different session. Families resist this and then lose the arrangement two months later.

  4. 04

Take the free trial in that slot, not a convenient one

One lesson, one subject, before any payment is taken. Book it at the hour you intend to use every week, so the trial tests the real arrangement rather than a best-case version of it. If the student cannot concentrate at that hour, better to find out in the free session than in January.

  5. 05

Map the consecutive-week topics into clear stretches

Energetics, equilibrium, acids and bases and organic mechanisms each need three to six successive weeks. Place them away from mock weeks and away from the investigation deadline, and leave the self-contained topics for the messy weeks. A tutor who will not plan at this level will be surprised in February.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

The slot is agreed before the syllabus is

An excellent chemistry tutor in an impossible hour teaches nobody. Sessions are fixed against the real end of the Al Sufouh school day, the activity commitment and the journey, which is why arrangements here tend to survive to the spring rather than fading out in the autumn.

Evening and post-Iftar hours genuinely available

Lessons run in Gulf Standard Time into the evening, and sessions can move to a post-Iftar slot during Ramadan and move back afterwards. Those hours cost nothing extra to supply when nobody is driving, which is the practical difference between online and in-home delivery here.

Matched to level and to the current guide

Chemistry is matched to Standard or Higher Level and to a tutor who teaches the current structure and reactivity organisation rather than the previous syllabus with its separate options. A tutor planning against a retired structure covers material the papers no longer ask for.

Consecutive-week topics planned, not improvised

Energetics, equilibrium, acids and bases and organic mechanisms collapse on an interrupted slot. Those blocks are booked into clear stretches of the school calendar and the self-contained topics are left for messy weeks, which is planning rather than hoping.

Rates shown as the market's, with sources

Every AED figure on this page is attributed to the provider or research that published it, read in October 2026. Three of the six researched competitors in this market publish no price at all and two quote in US dollars, which no Dubai household transacts in.

Delivery and the honesty line both stated plainly

Lessons for UAE families are one-to-one online over live video. IB Gram does not send tutors to homes anywhere in the UAE; home visiting is offered only in India. Tutors teach, review and give feedback on the student's own work, and no assessed coursework is written or produced for a student.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Al Sufouh: your questions answered

What time does the school day end for an Al Sufouh chemistry student?+

Dubai secondary school days typically finish between two o'clock and half past three, varying by school, phase and term, and your own school's calendar is the authority. A Diploma student's day rarely ends at the bell: a creativity, activity and service commitment, a clinic, music or a fixture usually takes the next hour. A student living in the Al Sufouh coastal strip can be at a desk by half past four. A household in Media City or Internet City is realistically available from half past six.

Which hour should we actually book for a weekly chemistry session?+

The latest hour the student will still function at, not the earliest one available. For most of this catchment that is between half past six and eight, after the journey and after food. A four o'clock session following a full day and a fixture is attended rather than used, and it is billed either way. Online slots in Gulf Standard Time run into the evening, which is precisely the window a visiting tutor cannot usually supply because their day has ended with a drive.

Why does an unreliable chemistry slot cost more than a cheaper tutor would save?+

Because chemistry is cumulative in blocks. A weekly session holding thirty-two weeks of the year delivers thirty-two hours; the same session at an optimistic hour holding two weeks in three delivers twenty-one. At mid-market rates that gap is between AED 1,650 and AED 3,300 of value not received, at an identical hourly price. Worse, the consecutive-week topics never complete cleanly on that pattern, so the student ends with partial versions of several chains of reasoning.

Which chemistry topics cannot survive a missed week?+

Energetics needs three or four successive weeks, because sign conventions and enthalpy cycles form one chain. Equilibrium needs three or four, because the qualitative and quantitative sides must be learned together. Acids, bases and pH need three to five as the logarithmic work compounds across weak acid, buffer and titration cases. Organic mechanisms need four to six, because the habits build across attempts. Stoichiometry practice and data-based technique, by contrast, survive gaps and can be parked in messy weeks.

Which schools does Al Sufouh feed, and do they all sit the same chemistry course?+

Dubai College and GEMS Wellington International School sit inside Al Sufouh, with Regent International School in the Greens and Emirates International School in Jumeirah nearby. Across Sheikh Zayed Road are the American School of Dubai, Dubai American Academy, Kings' School Al Barsha and Al Mawakeb School Al Barsha. They do not all sit the same course: one street can hold a Diploma Higher Level student, an A Level student and an American-track student. No affiliation with any named school is implied.

How is IB chemistry assessed under the current guide?+

Paper 1 carries thirty-six per cent and splits into a multiple-choice section and a data-based section. Paper 2 carries forty-four per cent and holds the extended-response work. The scientific investigation carries twenty per cent. Content is organised into structure and reactivity units rather than the separate options of the previous syllabus, which is worth checking with a prospective tutor: one planning against the retired structure will cover material the papers no longer ask for. Confirm the current detail with your school, which holds the documentation.

When should chemistry investigation work be scheduled?+

Backwards from the school's own internal deadline, which the DP coordinator sets and can confirm. In the three or four weeks before it the student is doing coursework rather than content, and sessions should follow them into the coursework. Families who do not plan for this pay for content sessions the student cannot absorb and then pay again for coursework help afterwards, which is the most avoidable double cost in the arrangement. Equal weighting across the four criteria means evaluation deserves planned time too.

What does the in-home premium buy for a chemistry student in Al Sufouh?+

A person in the room, and the last hour of that tutor's working day. The in-home band is AED 180 to AED 350 an hour including travel at Bestimate, with independent home tutors at AED 200 to AED 500, against AED 200 to AED 450 and above for an online specialist. Since the bands overlap, the premium is not buying better teaching. It is buying presence at an earlier hour than most of this catchment can use, plus fragility, because a cancelled session after a tutor has travelled is often still billed.

Can online chemistry tuition really help with an enthalpy cycle or a mechanism?+

Usually better than a kitchen table does. A shared screen holds the question, the markscheme and the student's own working simultaneously, curly arrows can be drawn and redrawn without reprinting, and the session can be recorded so the chain of reasoning is revisitable in revision week. What online tuition does not do is laboratory work, which belongs to the school with its equipment, technician support and supervision. Tutoring covers the design before the practical and the analysis afterwards.

How do sessions work during Ramadan for an Al Sufouh family?+

School hours shorten and evening study moves to after Iftar, so sessions move to a post-Iftar slot for the month and move back afterwards. The thing that breaks plans is improvising this in the second week rather than agreeing it in advance, because a month of half-attended sessions lands wherever the consecutive-week topics happen to sit. Agree the Ramadan arrangement in the first month of the year, and place the energetics or mechanisms blocks away from it.

Should we pause chemistry tutoring during mock weeks?+

Usually lighten rather than continue as normal. A school running mocks over two weeks takes the student's evenings for revision across four subjects at once, and a full content session dropped into that is a session nobody can prepare for. The better pattern is to front-load chemistry in the fortnight before mocks, then use the mock period for short paper-technique work or pause entirely. Paying a normal weekly fee for an unusable session is a quiet and recurring waste.

Can my child's own chemistry teacher tutor them privately in the evenings?+

Treat it as prohibited rather than available. Abu Dhabi's professional-ethics rules for private and charter school staff prohibit teachers from providing paid private tutoring to students enrolled at their own school, and the MoHRE private tuition work permit carries a code of conduct that also bars serving students affiliated with the teacher's own school. This is press-reported, so verify against current policy, but the direction is unambiguous. A permit-holding teacher from a different school is a straightforward arrangement.

Does a chemistry tutor in Dubai need a permit, and what does it cost?+

A permit is required and it is free. The private tuition work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023 and is granted free of charge for two years. MoHRE lists the service as Issuance of a New Work Permit - Private Tutor Licensing, with no fees and a two-working-day completion time, applied for through its smart app, website and e-services system. Individuals tutoring without one are subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws. No fine schedule is published, so no amount should be quoted to you by anyone.

Is a Higher Level chemistry tutor different from a Standard Level one?+

Frequently, and it is worth asking directly. Standard and Higher Level share a core, so a tutor comfortable with the core teaches Standard Level well. Higher Level extends several units, with the mechanisms and the energetics material being where generalist science tutors most often stop. In a small Al Sufouh Diploma set the Higher Level extension is sometimes taught outside the main timetable, so a tutoring slot must sit outside that extra school session rather than competing with it.

My child can name organic products but cannot explain mechanisms. Is that fixable?+

Yes, and it is a habit problem rather than a knowledge gap, which is why it needs consecutive weeks rather than extra reading. The work is identifying electron-rich and electron-poor sites, drawing arrows that start and end in defensible places, and recognising reaction types instead of memorising transformations. Four to six successive sessions is typical. Spread the same hours across interrupted weeks and the student returns to a list of names, which is where most candidates arrive at the paper.

What happens if nobody is free at the evening slot we need?+

You are told, with a timescale, rather than matched to a worse hour and left to discover the problem. The later Gulf Standard Time slots are the most requested in this catchment for exactly the reasons set out above. Where no suitable Higher Level match is free at that hour, the realistic options are a tutor in another time zone covering the evening, a short wait with a named date, or a single diagnostic session with a generalist to establish precisely what the specialist will be needed for.

Fix the hour first, then book the chemistry

If you want an IB chemistry tutor in Al Sufouh, start with the calendar rather than the shortlist. Write down when the bell goes, what takes the hour afterwards, how long the journey home runs at the peak, and when the student has eaten. Pick the latest hour they will still function at. Ask the coordinator for the level and the investigation deadlines. Then book the free trial lesson in that exact slot, one subject, no payment taken beforehand. Lessons run live online, one-to-one, in Gulf Standard Time.
