IB Home Tutor in Al Sufouh

Looking for an IB home tutor in Al Sufouh is unusual in one respect: you already live in the school district. The gates, the teaching staff and the Knowledge Park offices are all within a few minutes of each other, so the proximity argument is actually available here - and this page explains, honestly, why it still is not the thing that moves a Diploma grade. Lessons run one-to-one over live video in Gulf Standard Time.

IB & IGCSE in Al Sufouh

The one neighbourhood where proximity is actually on the table

Most pages about home tutoring in Dubai are written for families who live some distance from where the teaching happens. Al Sufouh is the exception. The strip between Sheikh Zayed Road and the coast holds school campuses, Dubai Knowledge Park, Internet City and Media City within a few minutes of each other, which means the people who teach IB subjects in this city are often working inside your own postcode. If the argument for an in-home tutor were ever going to hold anywhere, it would hold here.

So this page takes the argument seriously rather than dismissing it. It sets out what living in the school district genuinely solves - short journeys, teachers nearby, a parent who may well work three minutes from the gate - and then explains why none of those things is what decides a Diploma grade. The honest answer is that proximity solves logistics and the Diploma is not a logistics problem. It is a problem of six subjects, three Higher Level, two years of internal deadlines, and an Internal Assessment in nearly every subject that most students leave in a mediocre band because nobody showed them the criteria.

IB Gram's position does not change for this neighbourhood: tuition into Al Sufouh is delivered one-to-one over live video, in Gulf Standard Time, and we do not send tutors to homes anywhere in the UAE. Home visits are a service we offer in India only. In an area where in-home tuition is plainly practical, that deserves a reason rather than a policy statement, and the reason is in the comparison table further down. In short, the specialist you need for Higher Level Mathematics Analysis and Approaches is unlikely to be the specialist who happens to live in Knowledge Park, and the Diploma does not reward settling.

The rest of the page is built around the Al Sufouh afternoon and the Diploma year. There is the gate-by-gate timing picture including the tram and the Media City working parent, a comparison of delivery models with the published rates attached, the Diploma year counted from internal deadlines rather than from exam dates - which is the calendar that actually governs a DP student's life - the Internal Assessment arithmetic per subject, and the regulatory position stated plainly.

One framing note. International Baccalaureate schools account for 7% of Dubai private-school enrolment, in a market of 387,441 students across 227 private schools offering 17 curricula. Al Sufouh is one of the places where that 7% is concentrated, which means local IB knowledge here is better than almost anywhere in the emirate - and still thin for any specific Higher Level subject in any specific week. Al Sufouh therefore makes a useful test case for the whole argument. If the nearest-tutor approach were going to work anywhere in the UAE it would work on this strip, and the families who have tried it here are the ones who report the same outcome as families forty minutes away: a pleasant, competent tutor, a term of sessions, and a predicted grade that did not move because nobody ever identified which component was costing the points.

At a glance

  • Al Sufouh holds school campuses, Knowledge Park, Internet City and Media City within minutes
  • Proximity solves logistics; the Diploma is not a logistics problem
  • Internal deadlines, not exam dates, govern a DP student's two years
  • Internal Assessments carry around a fifth of most DP subject grades
  • Market in-home rates of AED 180-500 overlap the online specialist band almost entirely
  • No IB, KHDA or Ministry approval is claimed, because none is held
IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Al Sufouh's campuses include full IB continuum provision, so a family here may be dealing with any stage of the programme. The Diploma is where tutoring demand concentrates, for reasons the sequence below makes clear.

DPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

Diploma Programme

Six subjects from six groups, three at Higher Level and three at Standard Level, plus Theory of Knowledge, the Extended Essay and Creativity, Activity, Service. Scored out of 45 points with up to three available from the Theory of Knowledge and Extended Essay combination. Internal Assessments carry around a fifth of most subject grades.

This is where nearly every IB tutoring enquiry from Al Sufouh starts, usually for a Higher Level science or Mathematics in the second half of DP1. UAE schools sit the May session; confirm every session and results date with your school's IB coordinator or on ibo.org rather than from any tutoring page, including this one.

MYPAges 11-16 · Years 7-11

Middle Years Programme

Eight subject groups assessed against four criteria each, marked out of 8 and converted to a 1-7 grade by school boundaries. No past papers, so tutoring works from descriptors and the teacher's task-specific clarifications. MYP 5 includes the Personal Project.

Al Sufouh's continuum campuses run the MYP in Years 7 to 11, and families moving in from a British-curriculum school mid-programme find the criterion language the hardest adjustment. The content is rarely the issue; documented process is.

PYPAges 3-12 · FS1 to Year 6

Primary Years Programme

Inquiry-led with descriptive reporting and no external assessment, closing with the Year 6 Exhibition. Tutoring at this stage is rarely about content and usually about writing volume, number fluency or reading stamina.

Several Al Sufouh and nearby campuses run the PYP as the first stage of a continuum that goes through to the Diploma. The practical advantage for a family here is that one school can hold a child from FS1 to Year 13 without a change of assessment language.

CPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

Career-related Programme

DP courses alongside a career-related study, a reflective project and a personal and professional skills course. Uncommon in Dubai and worth verifying against the current KHDA school listing, since provision changes from year to year.

Where it is available near Al Sufouh, the tutoring need is narrower than the full Diploma: one or two DP courses plus support on the reflective project. The same academic-honesty boundary applies to the reflective project as to any assessed work.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

Below are the Diploma subjects most requested from Al Sufouh, with the component structure that determines where a grade is won or lost. Use them to test any tutor you speak to, including ours.

Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches

HL and SL

At SL the two papers carry 40% each with the Internal Assessment at 20%. At HL there are three papers at 30%, 30% and 20% plus the IA at 20%. Paper 3 at HL is an extended investigation unlike anything in the textbook and is the component HL students most consistently under-prepare.

Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation

HL and SL

Modelling and technology-led, with the same component pattern. The AA or AI decision affects university prerequisites for engineering, economics and some science courses, so check the target course rather than relying on a school's default recommendation.

Chemistry

HL and SL

Paper 1 at 36% with a multiple-choice section and a data-based section, Paper 2 at 44%, Internal Assessment at 20%. Organic mechanisms and energetics calculations are the predictable Higher Level losses, and the IA is where the most marks are recoverable by legitimate coaching.

Physics

HL and SL

Paper 1 at 36%, Paper 2 at 44%, Internal Assessment at 20%. Marks go missing less on the physics than on extended written answers where a chain of reasoning has to be visible, and on uncertainty handling in the practical write-up.

Biology

HL and SL

The heaviest content load of the three sciences on the same 36, 44 and 20 split. Command words decide grades: outline, explain, distinguish and evaluate each demand a different structure, and a correct fact in the wrong structure earns nothing.

Economics

HL and SL

At SL Paper 1 is 30%, Paper 2 is 40% and the Internal Assessment portfolio is 30%. At HL a quantitative third paper carrying 30% joins Papers 1 and 2 with the IA at 20%. The portfolio of commentaries on real news articles is where organised students gain the most ground.

English Language and Literature

HL and SL

At SL the two papers carry 35% each with the Individual Oral at 30%. At HL Paper 1 is 35%, Paper 2 is 25%, the HL Essay is 20% and the Individual Oral is 20%. The HL Essay is a formal written task and a frequent source of academic-honesty confusion.

Business Management and Psychology

HL and SL

Both carry substantial internally assessed components and both reward structured evaluation over content recall. They are also the subjects where a student who writes everything they know most reliably sits in the middle bands with full knowledge of the course.

Theory of Knowledge

Core, all DP students

Assessed through the exhibition and a prescribed-title essay, contributing to the core points on the 45-point scale with the Extended Essay. Tutoring here is argument construction and precise use of real-world examples; the essay must be entirely the student's own work.

Extended Essay

Core, all DP students

A 4,000-word independent research essay in a chosen subject, supervised at school. A tutor may teach research method, question formulation, structure and referencing and may ask the questions a supervisor will ask. A tutor may not research it, draft it, rewrite it or edit it into shape.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three ways of working suit a Diploma student in Al Sufouh, and the choice follows the calendar rather than the budget. All run one-to-one over live video in Gulf Standard Time.

Weekly one-to-one in one subject at one level

A single Diploma subject at a single level, same tutor each week, worked from the student's marked papers and the current subject guide. Level is matched as strictly as subject, because Higher and Standard Level share content and differ in depth, paper demand and what the top grade requires.

  • Matched on subject and level together
  • Timed to Gulf Standard Time after the commute home
  • Feedback names the component and the mark-scheme point missed
  • Pauses available around school internal deadlines

Internal Assessment coaching inside the school's deadlines

Work on the Internal Assessment planned backwards from the school's own draft deadlines rather than from the exam session. The tutor teaches the criteria, questions the research design, and points at where a draft currently falls short. The student writes every word of it.

  • Planned around the school's draft and final deadlines
  • Criteria explained in the IB's own terms before drafting starts
  • Feedback phrased as questions, never as replacement text
  • Boundaries agreed explicitly in the first session

Component block before a mock or a session

Two to six sessions on a single component - HL Mathematics Paper 3, Physics extended response, Economics Paper 3, the HL Essay. Suited to a student whose understanding is sound and whose predicted grade is being held down by one part of the assessment.

  • One component, worked entirely through past-paper responses
  • Marked against the official scheme rather than for correctness
  • Ends with a measurable change on that component, or an honest no
  • Repeatable per component without weekly commitment

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Al Sufouh

01

What living in the school district actually solves

An IB home tutor in Al Sufouh is a reasonable thing to want, and the usual objections to in-home tuition carry less weight here than anywhere else in Dubai. The journeys are short. The teaching population is local, because the campuses and Knowledge Park are local. A parent working in Media City or Internet City can be home before a 5pm session starts. None of that is imaginary, and a page that pretended otherwise would not be worth reading.

What it solves is logistics. A tutor arriving at an Al Sufouh address is not fighting Al Khail Road for fifty minutes, so the session is likelier to start on time than the same arrangement in a far suburb. The cost of the travel premium is also easier to justify when the travel is five minutes rather than forty-five. For a family that specifically wants a person in the room - a younger child, a student who will not work without supervision - this neighbourhood makes that choice practical rather than aspirational.

What it does not solve is the Diploma. Six subjects, three at Higher Level, Theory of Knowledge, a 4,000-word Extended Essay, an Internal Assessment in nearly every subject and two years of internal deadlines are not a scheduling problem. They are a problem of knowing which component is costing the grade and what the criteria for it actually say. The person best placed to answer that for Higher Level Mathematics Analysis and Approaches is whoever has taught the component repeatedly, and the chance that they also live within five minutes of your villa is a coincidence, not a plan.

That is the whole of the reason IB Gram delivers into Al Sufouh over live video rather than in person. IB Gram does not sell home visits anywhere in the UAE; that service exists only in India. In a district where in-home tuition is genuinely feasible, the honest case has to be made on merit rather than on necessity, and the comparison in the next section is where it is made.

02

The Al Sufouh afternoon: gates, the tram and the working parent

The timing picture here is better than in most of Dubai and still narrower than families expect. Secondary year groups across the Al Sufouh, Al Barsha and Marina corridor release between roughly 2:45pm and 3:30pm. Al Sufouh Road and the tram take the local traffic; Sheikh Zayed Road and Al Khail Road take everyone travelling inland. A student living in Al Sufouh and attending an Al Sufouh gate is home within fifteen minutes. A student living in Al Sufouh and attending an Al Barsha or Emirates Hills gate is not.

The second variable is the working parent, and it is more relevant here than elsewhere because so many Al Sufouh households work inside the same few square kilometres. Knowledge Park, Internet City and Media City finish later than the schools, which produces the common local pattern: a child home by 3:30pm with a nanny or alone, a parent back between 5:30pm and 6:30pm, and a window in between that is either used well or lost entirely. A session placed inside that window is supervised by the arrangement itself, which is one of the few genuinely useful scheduling observations for this neighbourhood.

The third is the Diploma's own calendar, which eats evenings in bursts rather than evenly. Creativity, Activity, Service commitments take one or two. Internal Assessment draft deadlines cluster. Mock weeks remove everything. A tutoring plan that assumes a stable weekly hour across two years will survive the first term and then collapse, which is why the sensible arrangement here is a fixed slot plus explicit permission to pause for a named week rather than a vague promise of flexibility.

The table below gives the pattern by gate cluster. Times are ordinary-day observations rather than published bell times - check your own school - but the shape holds, and the recommendation for most Al Sufouh Diploma students is a 4:45pm or 5:00pm start, before the parent is home and before the evening fills.

Home tutor or online, in a district where both are possible

This is the comparison that matters in Al Sufouh, because both options are real. Published Dubai rates for an in-home one-to-one visit with travel included run AED 180-500 an hour, with Bestimate quoting AED 180-350 and independent home tutors asking AED 200-500. A qualified subject tutor working online runs AED 150-300, with Unitors publishing IGCSE from AED 150 and IB from AED 200. IB, IGCSE and A-Level specialists sit at AED 200-450 and upwards, TutorChase publishing AED 270. Premium named or examiner-led tutors reach AED 500-650, BartyED publishing AED 650. Budget online starts at AED 33-52 from Tutopiya and AED 45-65 from EdFlik.

In most of Dubai the in-home premium is mostly mileage. In Al Sufouh it is less so, which changes the arithmetic honestly in favour of the in-home option on cost grounds - a five-minute journey does not justify the same premium as a forty-five minute one, and some local tutors price accordingly. What does not change is selection. Requiring the tutor to be within a short drive means choosing from the people who are both qualified in your subject at your level and available in your slot and nearby. For Higher Level Mathematics Analysis and Approaches in the weeks before the May session, that intersection is frequently empty even here.

The second thing that does not change is what the money buys. The in-home band overlaps the online specialist band across almost its whole range, so the premium is not purchasing a different quality of teaching. It purchases presence, which is worth paying for in specific cases: a student who will not sit down without an adult there, a younger child whose attention over video is short, or a household with poor bandwidth. For a Diploma student working on an Internal Assessment draft or a Paper 3 technique, presence adds nothing a shared screen does not provide, and a shared screen is a better way to annotate a draft than reading it upside down.

All figures above are other providers' published rates read during the October 2026 research round, quoted as market context rather than as an IB Gram price list. For context on the household budget, KHDA confirmed on 22 May 2026 that Dubai private-school fees would not increase for the 2026-27 academic year under the emirate's second economic incentives package valued at AED 1.5 billion. Tutoring is the uncapped part of that budget, which is a reason to buy it by component diagnosis rather than by the hour.

The Diploma year counted from internal deadlines, not exam dates

Every tutoring page in this market that mentions the calendar mentions exams. That is the wrong calendar for a Diploma student. The dates that govern two years of a DP student's life are set by the school: first draft of the Internal Assessment, final IA submission, Extended Essay research question approval, Extended Essay interim and final drafts, the reflection sessions, the Theory of Knowledge exhibition and essay deadlines, mock weeks, and the predicted-grade point that determines university offers. Those deadlines arrive in clusters and they are the ones a student actually misses.

This page publishes no IB session or results dates, deliberately. UAE schools sit the May session, and ibo.org or your school's IB coordinator are the only places to confirm specifics. Several pages in this market quote IB dates from secondary sources with confidence they have not earned, and a date a parent plans around is not a detail to approximate. What can be said safely is the structure: internal deadlines come months before external assessment, coursework is finished long before papers are sat, and a student who hits the internal calendar has a far easier final term than one who does not.

The practical planning consequence for an Al Sufouh family is to build the tutoring arrangement around the school's internal calendar rather than around a generic revision timeline. Ask the coordinator for the year's deadline list at the start of DP1 and put it on a wall. Then place tutoring where it is useful: Internal Assessment coaching in the weeks before a draft deadline, component work after mocks when the diagnosis is fresh, and nothing at all in the week a major submission is due, because adding a session to that week makes things worse.

The table below is a generic version of the DP year read backwards from the external assessment, with the internal milestones in the order they usually arrive. It is a planning scaffold rather than a schedule - your school's actual dates override every row of it, and getting those dates is the single most useful administrative act of DP1.

THE DIPLOMA YEAR READ BACKWARDS - INTERNAL MILESTONES SET BY THE SCHOOL

05

Where Diploma marks are actually recoverable

  • Internal Assessment first: around a fifth of the grade and still in the student's hands
  • Then the component unlike the rest of the course - HL Paper 3, the HL Essay
  • Then command-word and structure discipline, which transfers across subjects
  • Content never learned is not recoverable in eight weeks; triage instead
  • Ask which of these three blocks is costing the grade before buying anything

A Diploma grade is made of parts, and the parts are not equally recoverable at any given moment. The Internal Assessment is the most recoverable, because it carries around a fifth of most subject grades and remains in the student's hands until the submission deadline. A student predicted a 5 in a Higher Level science with an Internal Assessment sitting in a low band is carrying a capped grade regardless of how well the papers go, and that cap can be lifted by legitimate coaching on the criteria. That is the first place to look, always.

The second is the component that is unlike the rest of the course. Higher Level Mathematics Paper 3 at 20% is an extended investigation rather than a set of questions. The Higher Level Essay in English Language and Literature at 20% is a formal written task. Higher Level Economics Paper 3 at 30% is quantitative. Higher Level History Paper 3 demands regional depth beyond Paper 2's breadth. Students arrive at these with no practice because they do not resemble what they have been doing, and a short component block often moves more than a term of general subject work.

The third is command-word and structure discipline on the main papers, which transfers across subjects. A student who learns how an extended-response mark scheme awards points gains on every subsequent question of that type in every subject. This is the cheapest improvement available in the Diploma and it is almost never bought deliberately, because it does not sound like a subject.

What is not recoverable late is content never learned, and the honest service at that point is triage rather than rescue. Eight weeks before external assessment, a student with large content gaps is better served by securing the topics with the heaviest mark allocation and the Internal Assessment marks already banked than by attempting the whole syllabus. A provider who promises otherwise is selling reassurance. We would rather say which marks are reachable and work on those.

Regulators, permits and what "approved" cannot mean

Dubai's private schools are overseen by the Knowledge and Human Development Authority, which u.ae describes as responsible for enhancing and overseeing the quality of private education in the emirate. Abu Dhabi and Al Ain fall under ADEK, Sharjah under the Sharjah Private Education Authority, Ras Al Khaimah under its Department of Knowledge, and Ajman, Umm Al Quwain and Fujairah under the federal Ministry of Education. Those five bodies are the complete regulator map for UAE private schools, and ADEK in particular is named by almost nobody in this market.

KHDA regulates schools, inspects them annually on a six-band scale from Outstanding to Very Weak, and issues an Educational Services Permit to training institutes with premises - a permit requiring initial approval, a maximum of six months to complete the permit and licence steps, and annual renewal requested at least 30 days before expiry. It is a licence for an organisation with a physical location. No individual online tutor holds it, and the phrase KHDA-approved tutor is the single most misleading claim available in this market.

The permit that applies to individual tutoring is MoHRE's. The private tuition work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, is granted free of charge for two years, and covers teachers registered in government or private schools, government and private-sector employees, unemployed individuals, university students and school students aged 15 to 18. MoHRE lists the service as 'Issuance of a New Work Permit - Private Tutor Licensing', applied for through its app, website and e-services. Individuals tutoring without a permit are subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws; no fine schedule is published, so any amount circulating online is unverified.

One further rule shapes who you should not hire. ADEK's professional-ethics rules for Abu Dhabi private and charter school staff prohibit teachers from paid private tutoring of students enrolled at their own school, and the MoHRE permit's code of conduct also bars serving students affiliated with the teacher's own school. Treat the detail as press-reported and verify it against current policy, but the direction is unambiguous, and in a district like Al Sufouh where teachers and families live side by side it is worth knowing. IB Gram claims no approval, accreditation, licence or partnership from KHDA, ADEK, the Ministry of Education, MoHRE, the IB, Cambridge or Pearson, and holds none.

Starting from Al Sufouh, and what we will not do

  • Send subject, level, predicted grade, IA stage and the internal deadline list
  • Free full-length trial lesson before any payment
  • 4:30pm for an Al Sufouh gate, 5:00pm or later for an inland commute
  • Sessions pause in submission weeks by design, not by negotiation
  • Coverage limits disclosed, including a straight no where that is the answer

Send four things: the subject, the level, the current predicted grade and where the Internal Assessment stands. Add a marked paper if you have one and the school's internal deadline list if you can get it. From those we can tell you whether the useful purchase is subject teaching, Internal Assessment coaching or a component block, and those are three different jobs rather than three sizes of the same one.

Then: we match on subject and level, you take a full-length trial lesson at no cost with your child's own work on screen, and you decide. Sessions run weekly in Gulf Standard Time, usually 4:30pm for a student at an Al Sufouh gate and 5:00pm or later for one commuting back from Al Barsha or Emirates Hills. Timings move to post-Iftar slots during Ramadan. Sessions pause in the week a major submission is due, which should be in the plan from the start rather than negotiated each time.

The disclosure. Higher Level Mathematics Analysis and Approaches in the run-up to the May session is the hardest request in the set to fill. Some group-two languages, Theatre, Music, Global Politics and Design Technology are thin year-round. A late request in a rare Higher Level subject may be answered with a waiting position rather than a tutor, and we will say so rather than place somebody learning the component alongside your child at specialist rates. No competitor page in this cluster discloses a coverage limit at all.

And the fixed limits. No home visits anywhere in the UAE - home visits are an India-only service, and in this district that is a choice we have explained rather than a constraint we are hiding. No claimed approval or partnership from any regulator or examination board. No writing, drafting, rewriting or editing of an Internal Assessment, Extended Essay, Theory of Knowledge essay or any assessed work. No supplied or reproduced past papers, mark schemes or subject guides; we reference the official sources and work from your school's materials. No grade promises, and no statistics about our own results, because we cannot publish the sample, date and method that would make such a figure mean anything.

Where we tutor

Al Sufouh and the areas that share its gates

Al Sufouh sits between Sheikh Zayed Road and the coast, with the tram running through it and the Marina cluster to the south-west. These notes are about afternoon movement, because that is what sets the usable study window.

Al Sufouh

Campuses, Knowledge Park, Internet City and Media City within a few minutes of each other, and the tram running along the corridor. Students living here have the shortest journey home in this part of Dubai, which is a real advantage and not an academic one.

Dubai Marina

Immediately south-west along the tram line, dense and vertical, with children commuting out to Al Sufouh and Al Barsha gates. Marina families gain the most from removing a second journey, because the tower lift and the parking add fifteen minutes nobody counts.

JBR

On the beach side of the Marina with the same gate pattern and the same tram access. Evening traffic through the Marina is the constraint rather than distance, which is why a 4:45pm session reliably starts at 5pm if anybody has to arrive.

JLT

Across Sheikh Zayed Road from the Marina, with its own towers and a mixed school pattern. Parents here often work in JLT or DMCC, which makes an early-evening session at home more practical than one requiring a chaperone.

The Greens and The Views

Inland of the tram line, low-rise and family-dominated, feeding Al Barsha and Al Sufouh gates. A good illustration that ten minutes on a map is twenty-five at 3:20pm on Al Sufouh Road.

Emirates Hills and The Meadows

Established IB provision further inland. Students from Al Sufouh who attend these gates have the longest return leg and are generally not free before 5:15pm, which makes weekend mornings more productive for extended coursework work.

Bluewaters Island

Offshore from JBR with no school of its own and a single access route. The bridge crossing at school-out time is the reason families here abandon arrangements that depend on anybody travelling.

Al Barsha

Inland beyond Sheikh Zayed Road with the densest school cluster in this part of the city. Many Al Sufouh students travel here daily, and the return journey is what pushes a realistic Diploma session to 5pm or later.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in Al Sufouh

Al Sufouh, Knowledge Park and Media City

Ask the IB coordinator for the year's internal deadlines at the start of DP1: Internal Assessment drafts, Extended Essay milestones, mock weeks, predicted grades. That list governs the next two years far more than any external date, and almost no family requests it.

  2. 02

    Send the four facts

Subject, level, current predicted grade and where the Internal Assessment stands. Those four lines decide whether the right purchase is subject teaching, Internal Assessment coaching or a component block, which are three different tutors rather than three durations.

  3. 03

    Attach a marked paper

One marked mock or past paper with the marks visible shows whether losses are content, structure, command words or timing. The grade looks identical in all four cases and the remedies are completely different, so this single document shortens diagnosis by weeks.

  4. 04

Take the free trial on your own work

A full-length one-to-one lesson at no cost, worked on your child's marked paper or Internal Assessment draft. Listen for whether the tutor names components and criteria, and whether they state the academic-honesty boundary before being asked.

  5. 05

Review by component, with pauses built in

Every six to eight weeks, compare the same component before and after, and keep the submission-week pauses in the plan. If the component has not moved after a full block, change the focus, change the tutor, or stop - and we will say which it looks like.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

The in-home case is answered, not dodged

Al Sufouh is the one district in Dubai where a short local journey makes in-home tuition genuinely practical, so we show the published rates and name what presence buys and costs. The argument for online here rests on selection rather than on traffic.

Planning built on the school's internal calendar

Internal Assessment drafts, Extended Essay milestones and mock weeks are what a Diploma student actually misses. We build the arrangement around that list, including scheduled pauses, rather than around a generic revision timeline.

Matched on subject and level together

Higher and Standard Level are different teaching jobs even where the content overlaps. Matching on subject alone is how families pay specialist rates for general subject confidence, and it is the commonest failure in Diploma tutoring.

Internal Assessment treated as the first place to look

It carries around a fifth of most subject grades and is still in the student's hands. Coaching on the criteria is legitimate, substantial and the single highest-return intervention available before a draft deadline.

No claim we cannot evidence

No IB, KHDA, ADEK, Ministry of Education or examination-board approval, accreditation or partnership. No self-asserted ratings. No results statistics without sample, date and method. In a market where several ranking pages publish all three, restraint is the differentiator.

Coverage limits published

Higher Level Mathematics near the session, several group-two languages, Theatre, Music, Global Politics and Design Technology are thin. You get told rather than placed with somebody learning the component alongside your child.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Al Sufouh: your questions answered

We live in Al Sufouh, where tutors are local. Why would we choose online lessons?+

Because proximity solves logistics and the Diploma is not a logistics problem. Al Sufouh genuinely makes in-home tuition practical - campuses, Knowledge Park and Media City are minutes apart and local tutors price a five-minute journey differently from a forty-five minute one. But requiring the tutor to be nearby means choosing from whoever is qualified in your subject at your level, free in your slot and local. For Higher Level Mathematics Analysis and Approaches in the weeks before the session, that intersection is often empty even here. IB Gram delivers over live video and does not offer home visits anywhere in the UAE.

Which internal deadlines should an Al Sufouh Diploma family actually be tracking?+

Ask the IB coordinator for the whole list at the start of DP1 and put it on a wall: Internal Assessment topic approval, IA first drafts, IA final submissions by subject, Extended Essay question approval, EE interim and final drafts, the reflection sessions, Theory of Knowledge exhibition and essay deadlines, mock weeks and the predicted-grade point. Those are the dates students miss. External assessment dates matter far less day to day and should be confirmed with the coordinator or on ibo.org rather than taken from any tutoring page.

My child's Internal Assessment draft came back poorly. Is that fixable?+

It is usually the most fixable thing on the list, which is why it is the first place to look. The Internal Assessment carries around a fifth of most Diploma subject grades and remains in the student's hands until the final submission. A low draft band is often a criteria problem rather than a capability problem - a research question too broad, a method not justified, data handled without an analysis plan, or a conclusion that overstates the evidence. A tutor may teach the criteria, question the design and show where the draft falls short. Every word of the rewrite must be the student's own.

Does the HL third component really need separate work?+

Usually yes, because it does not resemble the rest of the course and it arrives late. Higher Level Mathematics adds a Paper 3 worth 20% that is an extended investigation rather than a set of exercises. Higher Level English Language and Literature adds an HL Essay worth 20%, a formal written task on a studied text. Higher Level Economics adds a quantitative Paper 3 worth 30%. Students who are competent across the shared content arrive at these components with no practice at all, and a block of two to six focused sessions often returns more than a term of general subject tuition.

How early in the afternoon can a session start if our gate is in Al Sufouh itself?+

4:30pm is realistic, which is earlier than almost anywhere else in Dubai. Al Sufouh gates release secondary year groups roughly between 2:50pm and 3:20pm, and a student living in the same district is home within fifteen minutes, often by 3:20pm. Allow for changing and food and the window opens at about 4:30pm. If your child attends an Al Barsha or Emirates Hills gate instead, the return leg pushes that to 5:00pm or 5:15pm. A session placed before a working parent gets back from Knowledge Park or Media City is also supervised by the arrangement itself.

Is it worth paying a local Al Sufouh tutor the in-home premium?+

Only if presence is the thing you need. The premium is smaller here than elsewhere because the journey is short, which is an honest point in its favour. But published Dubai in-home rates of AED 180-500 an hour overlap the online specialist band of AED 200-450 almost entirely, so the money is not buying different teaching quality. Presence is genuinely worth paying for in three cases: a student who will not work without an adult in the room, a younger child whose attention over video is short, or a household with unreliable bandwidth. For Internal Assessment or Paper 3 work it adds nothing a shared screen does not.

What should we ask a Diploma tutor before the first lesson?+

Four things. What is each component worth at my child's level - a specialist gives the percentages without hesitating. What is the Internal Assessment worth and what are its criteria. What exactly will you do and not do on that Internal Assessment - the boundary should be stated before you ask. And what do you need from us before lesson one - the right answer is a marked paper and the school's deadline list. A tutor who wants nothing in advance intends to teach a generic scheme, which is competent work aimed at the wrong target.

Can a tutor be IB accredited or IB certified?+

No. The IB authorises schools to deliver its programmes and does not approve, accredit or certify private tutors or tutoring companies. Nor do KHDA, ADEK, the Sharjah Private Education Authority or the Ministry of Education approve individual tutors. KHDA issues an Educational Services Permit to training institutes with premises, which requires initial approval, a maximum of six months to complete the steps and annual renewal at least 30 days before expiry. The permit relevant to an individual tutor is MoHRE's private tuition work permit. IB Gram claims none of these and holds none of them.

We are eight weeks from external assessment. What is realistic now?+

Triage rather than coverage. In eight weeks a student can change paper technique, secure the topics carrying the heaviest mark allocation, and make sure every coursework mark already achievable is banked. What cannot happen is learning two years of content that was never learned. The honest plan names which marks are reachable and works on those, which usually means the Internal Assessment if it is still open, the highest-weighted paper, and command-word discipline that transfers across questions. A provider offering a full-syllabus rescue in eight weeks is selling reassurance rather than a plan.

Should the AA or AI Mathematics decision be made on the school's advice?+

Take the school's advice seriously and check it against the target university course yourself, because the two sometimes diverge. Analysis and Approaches is the more abstract and proof-oriented route; Applications and Interpretation is modelling and technology-led. Several engineering, economics and science courses specify one or the other, and a school recommending on the basis of current performance may not be optimising for an admissions requirement two years away. Where a student is capable of Analysis and Approaches but currently weak, a term of focused work in DP1 sometimes keeps a route open that would otherwise close.

How does a Creativity, Activity, Service commitment affect the tutoring plan?+

It removes an evening, usually permanently, and it should be designed into the plan rather than discovered. A commitment in Al Quoz, Al Barsha or the Marina takes the whole evening because of the double journey, not just the hours of the activity itself. The practical approach is to build around three usable weekday evenings rather than five, place the tutored session on the best of the three, and keep extended work - a full timed paper, a long Internal Assessment session - for a weekend morning when there is genuinely time for it.

Can one tutor handle two Diploma subjects for the same student?+

Sometimes, and it is worth asking, but the honest limit is two adjacent subjects at most. Chemistry and Physics share mathematical handling and practical write-up conventions. Economics and Business Management share evaluative structure. Mathematics and Physics share rearrangement and graph work. Beyond adjacency, a tutor claiming four Diploma subjects at Higher Level is claiming something improbable. In practice, a student whose problem is structure or command words rather than content is often lifted across several subjects by work in one, which is cheaper and more effective than multiple weekly sessions.

What would make you tell an Al Sufouh family not to book?+

Several things, and we would rather say them. A student who understands the content and is not doing the work needs supervision, which a weekly online hour does not provide - and in this district a local in-person arrangement genuinely might. A student weak across five subjects has a load or wellbeing problem that more sessions worsen. A single dip in a previously strong subject deserves one more data point before any spending. And a rare Higher Level subject requested weeks before the session, where we have nobody genuinely qualified, gets a no rather than a generalist at specialist rates.

Do you work with students at the schools in Al Sufouh and Knowledge Park?+

Students we support attend IB schools across the Al Sufouh, Marina and Al Barsha corridor, and tutors are matched by subject and level rather than by school. IB Gram has no affiliation, partnership, endorsement or client relationship with any school or school group, and we would be wary of a provider implying otherwise - several in this market list dozens of schools as though they were clients. What actually matters at the first session is your child's marked work and the school's own deadline list, not a tutor's claimed familiarity with the gate.

How do we judge progress when the next external assessment is a year away?+

Component by component, against marked evidence, every six to eight weeks. Agree at the start which component is the target - the Internal Assessment band, Paper 2 extended responses, Paper 3 - and compare the same component before and after. A predicted grade can stay still while a component improves, which is still progress and worth continuing. If the target component has not moved after a full block, the sensible responses are a change of focus, a change of tutor, or stopping. Stopping is a legitimate outcome and we will recommend it when it applies.

Buy the component, not the postcode

Al Sufouh gives you short journeys and local teaching staff, and neither of those decides a Diploma grade. What decides it is knowing which of six subjects and which component inside it is costing points, and whether the Internal Assessment is still recoverable. Get the school's internal deadline list, send the subject, the level, the predicted grade and the Internal Assessment stage, and take a free trial lesson on your child's own work. Lessons run one-to-one over live video in Gulf Standard Time, from 4:30pm for a local gate.
