IB Physics Tutor in Al Sufouh

Before you pay an IB physics tutor in Al Sufouh anything at all, there is a free layer worth exhausting: the school's own clinic, the published assessment criteria, and one unmarked past paper. This page works upwards from nothing, through the cheapest end of the Dubai market and into specialist rates, and says plainly what each level of spending can and cannot do for a Diploma physics grade. Lessons run live online, one-to-one, in Gulf Standard Time.

IB & IGCSE in Al Sufouh

Work upwards from nothing, not downwards from a quote

Most families in Al Sufouh approach physics tutoring from the wrong end. A quote arrives, it sounds reasonable or it sounds steep, and the decision gets made against that single number. The better sequence is to start at zero and move up only when the free layer runs out, because in Diploma physics the free layer is unusually substantial and most of it goes unused.

What costs nothing: the subject's published assessment criteria, which tell a student exactly what the scientific investigation is marked on; the school's own physics clinic or intervention session, already inside fees that have been paid; the DP coordinator's answer to which level and which school assessment deadlines apply; the student's own last mock paper, sat and left unmarked so that somebody can diagnose it rather than congratulate it; and the official subject documentation the school holds. A family that has used all five of those and still has a problem has a real problem, and is now in a position to buy help precisely rather than generally.

Then the market. Read in October 2026, the Dubai ladder starts lower than parents expect. Tutopiya advertises from AED 33 to AED 52 an hour and EdFlik from AED 45 to AED 65, usually delivered by current university students. Qualified subject tutors working online are quoted from AED 150 by Unitors for IGCSE and from AED 200 for IB. Specialists run AED 200 to AED 450 and above, with TutorChase publishing AED 270 and Bestimate placing specialist exam-year support in that band. Premium named tutors reach AED 650 at BartyED. In-home visits including travel are quoted at AED 180 to AED 350 by Bestimate, with independent home tutors advertising AED 200 to AED 500. Those are the market's own published figures, attributed to the providers who publish them, and they are not an IB Gram price list.

The useful question is which rung each job needs. A Standard Level student who has fallen behind on theme A kinematics does not need a AED 650 tutor; the content is in the guide and a competent teacher at AED 200 can close it. A Higher Level student who cannot structure an evaluation on the scientific investigation, or who is losing most of Paper 2 to extended-response questions, is buying judgement rather than explanation, and that is where the specialist band earns its number. Buying the top rung for a bottom-rung problem is the commonest overspend in this catchment, and buying the bottom rung for a top-rung problem is the commonest waste.

IB Gram's delivery position is identical across every UAE page. Tuition for families here is one-to-one online tuition over live video, scheduled in Gulf Standard Time. IB Gram does not send tutors to homes anywhere in the UAE; home visiting is a service offered only in India. For physics specifically that is less of a compromise than it sounds, because almost all of the examinable work is paper, data and reasoning, and a shared screen holds a graph, a markscheme and a student's working in one visible place.

IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Physics appears in three places in the programmes an Al Sufouh family deals with, and the cost of support differs because the assessment differs. The notes below separate them rather than treating science as one continuous subject.

DPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

Diploma Programme Physics

Under the current physics guide the course is organised into five themes: space, time and motion; the particulate nature of matter; wave behaviour; fields; and nuclear and quantum physics. Standard and Higher Level share a core, with Higher Level going further in several themes rather than adding separate option units. Assessment is Paper 1 at thirty-six per cent, Paper 2 at forty-four, and the scientific investigation at twenty. Paper 1 splits into a multiple-choice section and a data-analysis section.

Al Sufouh's Diploma cohort is small, so a single physics set can hold both Standard and Higher Level students, and the Higher Level extension content is often taught in additional sessions rather than in the main timetable. Families here should ask the DP coordinator which level is confirmed and what the school's own internal deadlines are for the investigation, because those dates drive the whole support plan.

MYPAges 11-16 · MYP 1-5

Middle Years Programme Sciences

MYP sciences are assessed against four criteria rather than against papers: knowing and understanding, inquiring and designing, processing and evaluating, and reflecting on the impacts of science. Each is marked out of eight against level descriptors. The inquiring-and-designing and processing-and-evaluating criteria are the direct ancestors of the Diploma scientific investigation, which is why MYP 5 students who have taken those criteria seriously arrive in DP physics with a real advantage.

In this catchment a student may move from an MYP school in Al Sufouh or Al Barsha into a Diploma at another school entirely. Those students usually arrive with stronger investigation skills and weaker algebraic fluency than their IGCSE-route classmates, and the physics support they need is almost the mirror image.

IGCSEAges 14-16 · Years 10-11

IGCSE physics into Diploma physics

Students arriving from Cambridge 0625 or Pearson 4PH1 have met mechanics, electricity, waves and radioactivity in a form that rewards recall and single-step calculation. Diploma physics asks for multi-step reasoning, uncertainty handling and extended explanation, and the gap shows within the first term. The alternative-to-practical experience many IGCSE candidates have is genuinely useful preparation for the Paper 1 data-analysis section.

Dubai's UK-curriculum schools account for 37 per cent of private enrolment against 7 per cent for the International Baccalaureate, so the IGCSE-to-Diploma crossover is routine rather than exceptional in Al Sufouh. A family budgeting for the first Diploma year should expect the transition term to need more contact than the terms after it.

CoreAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

The Diploma core alongside physics

Theory of Knowledge, the Extended Essay and creativity, activity and service run alongside the six subjects, and they compete for the same evenings as physics revision. A student writing a physics Extended Essay is doing a piece of independent research on top of the scientific investigation, which is a scheduling problem as much as an academic one. Both must be the student's own work.

Al Sufouh Diploma students typically carry a creativity, activity and service commitment after school, which is one reason an early-evening physics slot often fails and a later online slot succeeds. Planning the physics support calendar around the core deadlines rather than around the subject alone avoids paying for sessions nobody can attend.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

Physics is the page's subject, but Al Sufouh families rarely buy it in isolation. The entries below name the subjects most often requested alongside it and what each actually demands, because that is what decides whether one tutor or two is the right purchase.

Physics

HL and SL

Five themes under the current guide, assessed by two papers and a scientific investigation. The reliable sources of lost marks are uncertainty treatment, graph work where a gradient must be converted into a physical quantity with units, and extended-response questions answered with the right physics in the wrong structure. Higher Level depth in fields and quantum physics is where generalist tutors most often run out.

Physics Paper 1, data-analysis section

HL and SL

The section families forget exists. It presents unfamiliar data and asks for processing, uncertainty handling and interpretation rather than recall. Students who revise only content walk into it unprepared, and it is one of the most trainable parts of the whole course. Three or four sessions on it is high-return work at any rate band.

Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches

HL and SL

The most commonly paired subject. Physics assumes algebraic rearrangement, logarithms, trigonometry and, at Higher Level, comfort with rates of change. A student who manipulates equations well in a maths lesson and freezes when the same operation appears inside a physics question has a transfer problem, which one tutor can often close in both subjects at once.

Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation

HL and SL

Taken by some physics students, and the pairing is workable but worth examining. Applications assumes technology throughout and spends less time on algebraic manipulation, which is exactly the fluency Higher Level physics leans on. A student on this route taking Higher Level physics usually needs explicit algebra work that the maths course will not supply.

Chemistry

HL and SL

Shares the current science guide's investigation structure and its four assessment criteria, so a student doing well on one investigation usually transfers to the other. The quantitative overlap is in proportional reasoning, significant figures and uncertainty propagation. The content overlap is thinner than families expect, so two subjects usually means two tutors.

Computer Science

HL and SL

Paired with physics by students heading towards engineering. The algorithmic reasoning rewards the same stepwise discipline physics demands. Paper technique differs sharply: computer science rewards precise pseudocode convention, and marks are lost describing what a program does instead of tracing what it outputs.

Design Technology

HL and SL

Taken alongside physics in several Dubai Diploma schools. It shares the mechanics vocabulary and the materials content, and it carries its own substantial coursework. Where a student holds physics, design technology and a physics Extended Essay, the constraint is calendar rather than capability and should be planned in Year 12.

Theory of Knowledge

Core requirement

The natural sciences are one of the areas of knowledge TOK examines, and physics students are frequently asked to write about them. A tutor can discuss knowledge questions and interrogate an argument's structure. A tutor cannot write the essay or the exhibition commentary, and should state that boundary before any work begins.

Extended Essay in physics

Core requirement

An independent research piece with its own word limit and its own criteria, supervised by a school-appointed supervisor. A tutor may discuss feasibility, question a research question's scope and give feedback on the student's draft. A tutor may not write, draft or complete it, and the student signs any authenticity declaration the school requires.

Arabic and the UAE mandatory subjects

First and additional language

Arabic, Islamic Education and Social or Moral Studies run in every Dubai private school alongside the licensed international curriculum, including IB Diploma schools. KHDA requires separate classes for Arabs and non-Arabs in Arabic as a first language, Islamic Education and Social Studies, and combined classes for both groups are prohibited.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three formats, listed cheapest first, because that is the order a family should consider them in. All three run online over live video in Gulf Standard Time.

One diagnostic hour

The cheapest useful purchase in Diploma physics. One session built around a mock paper or an investigation draft the student has already produced, ending in a written readout: what the losses actually are, which of them are content, which are technique, which are uncertainty handling, and whether tutoring is the right spend at all. Some families stop here, correctly.

  • A mock paper or investigation draft sent in advance, unmarked
  • Losses categorised rather than counted
  • An explicit statement of level and the school's own deadlines
  • A recommendation that may be that no further sessions are needed

Investigation supervision block

A short, bounded run of sessions around the scientific investigation, which carries twenty per cent of the grade. The tutor interrogates the research question, questions the method, asks what the uncertainty actually implies and gives feedback on the student's own draft. The tutor does not write, draft or produce it, and says so to the student before the first session.

  • Research question tested for feasibility before data collection
  • Criterion-by-criterion feedback using the published descriptors
  • Uncertainty and data processing checked rather than corrected for them
  • A clear statement of what the tutor will not do with the work

Two-year course partnership

A fixed weekly slot across Years 12 and 13 with one tutor holding the whole arc: theme coverage ahead of the school, the investigation cycle in the middle, Paper 1 data-analysis technique and Paper 2 extended response at the end. The highest total cost and the lowest cost per mark, because nothing is being repaired under deadline pressure.

  • Matched to Standard or Higher Level before booking
  • Theme order aligned to the school's own scheme of work
  • Investigation planned against the school's internal deadlines
  • Paper 1 data-analysis practice built in from early in Year 13

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Al Sufouh

01

The free layer, exhausted first

  • The DP coordinator's written confirmation of level and internal deadlines
  • Four published investigation criteria worth six marks each, twenty-four in total
  • The school clinic, already inside fees that have been paid
  • One unmarked timed mock paper, which is diagnostic rather than reassuring

Five things an Al Sufouh family can obtain for nothing, in roughly the order of value. First, the DP coordinator's written confirmation of the level your child is entered at and the school's own internal deadlines for the scientific investigation. Those deadlines govern every support plan, and a plan built against a guessed date is a plan that collides with reality in February.

Second, the published assessment criteria for the scientific investigation. The current science guide assesses it on four criteria, each worth six marks for a total of twenty-four: research design, data analysis, conclusion and evaluation. A student who reads those descriptors before designing an experiment behaves differently from one who reads them after writing it up, and the difference is worth more than several paid hours. The school holds the documentation and will share it.

Third, the school's own physics clinic, intervention group or after-school session. These sit inside fees already paid. A private tutor repeating Thursday's clinic content is being paid to deliver free provision twice, and one email to the subject teacher establishes what is running and whether your child is already on a list. In this catchment that email regularly removes a weekly session from a plan, which at the mid-market band is AED 600 to AED 1,200 a month.

Fourth, one mock paper, sat under timed conditions and deliberately left unmarked. An unmarked paper is diagnostic material; a marked one has usually already been converted into a score and a reassurance. Fifth, the official subject documentation and the specimen material the school holds, which should be read rather than purchased. Nobody should be selling you syllabus documents, past papers or markschemes as downloads: those belong to the IB, and a provider offering a bundle of them as a selling point should be asked where it came from.

02

The Dubai market from the bottom rung upwards

The table below lists the market in ascending order of price, which is the order a family should read it in rather than the order providers usually present. Every band is attributed to who published it and every figure was read in October 2026. Dubai has no published standard rate for private tuition, so showing who charges what is the only honest way to show cost. None of these is an IB Gram price list.

The bottom rung is more useful than its reputation suggests, within limits. Tutopiya from AED 33 to AED 52 and EdFlik from AED 45 to AED 65 are typically delivered by current university students working from the student's own materials. For a Standard Level student who has missed three weeks of theme A and needs somebody patient to work through the kinematics, that is a sensible purchase and the cheapest route to a solved problem. What the bottom rung cannot do is diagnose: it tends to answer the question asked rather than identify the question that should have been asked.

The middle rung, qualified subject tutors online from AED 150 for IGCSE and from AED 200 for IB at Unitors, is where most of the useful work in Diploma physics happens. A teacher who has taught the course can cover a theme properly, mark an extended response against the right expectations and prepare a student for the Paper 1 data-analysis section. For the large majority of physics problems in this catchment, this rung is the correct one.

The top rungs, AED 200 to AED 450 and above for specialists with TutorChase publishing AED 270, and AED 500 to AED 650 and above for premium named tutors with BartyED publishing AED 650, are purchases of judgement rather than explanation. They earn the number on Higher Level fields and quantum content, on structuring an evaluation that reaches the top investigation band, and on Paper 2 extended responses where the physics is right and the answer still scores badly. Buying that rung for a missed-lesson problem is the commonest overspend in Al Sufouh.

Five themes, two papers, and where the time goes

Under the current physics guide the content is organised into five themes: space, time and motion; the particulate nature of matter; wave behaviour; fields; and nuclear and quantum physics. Standard and Higher Level share a core, with Higher Level extending several themes rather than adding separate option units. A tutor who last taught the previous syllabus and has not read the current guide will plan against a structure that no longer exists, which is a question worth asking directly.

Assessment is where the money is best spent. Paper 1 carries thirty-six per cent of the grade and splits into a multiple-choice section and a data-analysis section. Paper 2 carries forty-four per cent and holds the extended-response work. The scientific investigation carries twenty. The split matters because it tells you where a marginal hour of tutoring has the most effect: Paper 2 is the largest single component, and extended-response technique is both teachable and frequently untaught.

The data-analysis section of Paper 1 is the most neglected part of the course in this catchment. It presents unfamiliar data and asks for processing, uncertainty treatment and interpretation. Students who revise content alone meet it cold. It is also among the most trainable sections of any Diploma science, because the skills recur: identifying the independent variable, reading a gradient as a physical quantity with units, deciding whether an anomaly is an anomaly, and stating what an uncertainty means for a conclusion. Three or four focused sessions on it is high-return work at any rung.

The commonest Paper 2 failure in this cohort is not wrong physics. It is right physics presented without structure: an answer that states a correct relationship and never applies it to the situation the question built, or that explains two steps of a three-step chain. Fixing that is a writing and sequencing job inside a physics lesson, and it is why the specialist rung exists.

The scientific investigation: four criteria, twenty-four marks, one boundary

The investigation carries twenty per cent of the physics grade and is assessed on four criteria, each worth six marks for a total of twenty-four: research design, data analysis, conclusion and evaluation. Equal weighting across the four is the fact most students do not act on. They spend their effort on data collection, which sits inside data analysis, and under-serve evaluation, which carries exactly the same six marks and is far easier to improve.

Each criterion rewards something specific. Research design rewards a research question narrow enough to answer and a method whose variables are genuinely controlled. Data analysis rewards correct processing, honest uncertainty treatment and graphs that serve the argument rather than decorate it. Conclusion rewards an answer to the research question that is justified by the data and set against accepted physics. Evaluation rewards identifying the real limitations and proposing improvements that would actually address them.

The evaluation criterion is where marks are most commonly left on the table, and the reason is a habit rather than a knowledge gap. Students write evaluation as apology: a list of things that went wrong, with human error at the top. What the criterion asks for is analysis of which weaknesses materially affected the result and what a better design would do about them. That shift is teachable in two or three sessions and is worth up to six marks of a twenty-four-mark component.

The boundary needs stating before any work starts. A tutor can discuss candidate research questions and say which ones will not generate enough data, question whether a method controls what it claims to control, ask what an uncertainty implies and give feedback on a draft the student has written. A tutor cannot write, draft, complete or produce the investigation, and should not edit it until the voice is no longer the student's. Where a school requires an authenticity declaration, the candidate signs it. One operator in this market advertises completed Internal Assessments at a fixed price, which places a malpractice exposure on the student rather than on the seller.

Practical and laboratory work when the lessons are online

  • Laboratory work belongs to the school, with its equipment and supervision
  • Method design before the lab is what stops a wasted session at the bench
  • Data processing, uncertainty propagation and write-up are all screen work
  • Paper 1 data analysis is a paper exercise and suits a shared screen well

This is the honest objection to online physics tuition and it deserves a direct answer. Hands-on laboratory work belongs to the school. The school has the equipment, the technician support, the safety framework and the supervision requirement, and no tutoring arrangement should attempt to replace it. A tutor who claims to run practicals for a Dubai family is either describing a demonstration or describing something that will not satisfy the school's requirements.

What tutoring can do is everything around the bench. Designing the method before the student reaches the laboratory, so the session in the lab produces usable data rather than a repeat. Choosing the range and the number of repeats. Deciding what to measure and how precisely. Processing the data afterwards: plotting it so the relationship is visible, propagating the uncertainties properly, and deciding whether a point is anomalous or inconvenient. Then writing it up against the four criteria. The laboratory hour is a small fraction of the investigation's work, and almost all the assessed thinking happens either side of it.

For the examined components, a shared screen is often better than a table. The Paper 1 data-analysis section is a paper exercise: the data is printed, the graph is drawn on paper, and the reasoning is written. Working through it with the paper, the markscheme and the student's own attempt visible simultaneously, with the session recorded for revision, is a format that suits the task. The same applies to Paper 2 extended responses, where the useful work is reading what the student wrote and showing where the reasoning chain broke.

IB Gram's position, stated plainly: lessons for UAE families are one-to-one online over live video. IB Gram does not sell home visits in Dubai and does not dispatch tutors to UAE addresses. Home visiting is an India-only service. A family that specifically needs a person in the room should hire locally for that and should still exhaust the free layer and ask the verification questions below before paying anything.

06

Travel premium, Al Sufouh geography and what the extra money buys

  • In-home AED 180-500 and online specialist AED 200-450+ overlap almost entirely
  • A visiting tutor's day caps at two or three students once New Dubai travel is counted
  • A Diploma plan losing four sessions a term to logistics loses a theme
  • Higher Level fields and quantum specialists are not distributed by neighbourhood

A family comparing an in-home quote with an online one in this catchment is comparing two different products at overlapping prices. The published in-home band is AED 180 to AED 500 an hour including travel. The online specialist band is AED 200 to AED 450 and above. The overlap is almost total, so the comparison is not about money so much as about what the money selects for.

The geography is specific. Al Sufouh is a narrow strip, and a tutor working in-home across New Dubai loses real time to the drive between Knowledge Park, Al Barsha and the Greens. That caps their day at two or three students and it has to be recovered inside the rate. It also makes the arrangement fragile in a way that matters for a two-year course: one closure on Al Sufouh Road and the session is cancelled, shortened or rescheduled, and a Diploma physics plan that loses four sessions a term loses a theme.

What the premium buys is presence, and presence is genuinely valuable in some cases. A student who will not engage with a screen, or a household where supervision rather than teaching is the real requirement, should buy it. What it does not buy is the Higher Level fields and quantum specialist, or the person who has marked a top-band evaluation. Those people are not distributed across Al Sufouh, the Greens and Media City in proportion to demand; they are distributed across the whole market.

Set against the themes themselves, the trade becomes clearer. Physics at Higher Level asks for depth in fields and in quantum physics that a generalist science tutor may never have taught. Restricting the search to driving distance narrows the pool at exactly the point where narrowing hurts most. Removing the travel constraint widens it, and the travel component of the rate, somewhere between AED 50 and AED 150 an hour on published bands, simply stops being charged.

07

The permit, the claim and the receipt

  • The MoHRE private tuition permit is free of charge and valid for two years
  • University students are explicitly eligible, so a low rate is not automatically a red flag
  • No fine schedule is published, so no fine amount should ever be quoted to you
  • A KHDA Educational Services Permit is a numbered document, not a phrase

Three verification steps, all free, and the reason the cheapest end of this market is not always the safest. The first is the permit. Private tutoring in the UAE is regulated: the private tuition work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023 and is granted free of charge for two years. Eligible applicants include teachers registered in government or private schools, employees in the government and private sectors, unemployed individuals, university students and school students aged fifteen to eighteen. MoHRE's own service page is Issuance of a New Work Permit - Private Tutor Licensing, listing no fees and a two-working-day completion time, applied for through the MoHRE smart app, website and e-services system. Because it is free, a quote itemising a licensing charge should be questioned.

Note what that eligibility list means at the bottom rung of the rate ladder. University students are explicitly eligible, so a tutor charging at the bottom of the band can be entirely legitimate. What is not legitimate is tutoring without the permit, and individuals doing so are subject to fines and penalties outlined in the applicable laws. No fine schedule is published, so no amount should be quoted to you by anyone. A separate rule applies to school staff: Abu Dhabi's professional-ethics rules bar teachers from paid private tutoring of students enrolled at their own school, and the MoHRE permit's code of conduct also bars serving students affiliated with the teacher's own school.

The second step is the claim. IB Gram holds no accreditation from the IB, from Cambridge, from Pearson, from KHDA, ADEK, SPEA, the Ministry of Education or MoHRE, and claims none. A tutoring operation with premises and staff in Dubai needs a KHDA Educational Services Permit for a training institute, with initial approval first, a maximum of six months to complete the permit and licence steps, and annual renewal requested at least thirty days before expiry. That is a numbered document. Any provider calling itself approved should produce it. Equally, nobody should be described as an IB examiner unless current examiner status can be evidenced, and examiner status should never be presented as access to marking or boundaries.

The third step is the receipt on numbers. Ask where a quoted figure came from and when it was read. Three of the six competitor pages researched in this cluster publish no price at all, two quote in US dollars, and one publishes a structured-data price range that contradicts the figure on its own page. Separately, any statistic offered without a sample size, a date and a method should be disregarded, which includes satisfaction percentages, self-asserted star ratings and tutor headcounts. None appear on this page for that reason.

08

Matching the rung to the problem

  • Missed content: budget or mid rung, AED 33-300 an hour
  • No retention despite coverage: mid rung, from AED 200 for IB
  • Right physics, wrong marks: specialist rung, AED 200-450+
  • Evaluation and Higher Level depth: top rungs, short and aimed engagements

The practical conclusion of a cheapest-first page is a matching rule rather than a recommendation. Physics problems in this catchment fall into four kinds, and each has a rung that fits it. Confusing them is where money goes.

A missed-content problem, where a student was absent or the teaching moved too fast, needs patience and correct explanation. The budget and mid rungs both do this, and the budget rung does it adequately for Standard Level core content at AED 33 to AED 65 an hour. A coverage problem, where the syllabus is being met but nothing is sticking, needs a teacher who knows the course well enough to sequence it, which is the mid rung from AED 200 for IB.

A technique problem, where the physics is right and the marks are not, needs somebody who knows what the markscheme rewards. That is the specialist rung at AED 200 to AED 450 and above, and it is the rung most under-bought in Al Sufouh because the problem is hard to see from a report card. A student scoring five with correct physics is usually losing marks to structure, to incomplete chains, to units and to uncertainty, not to knowledge, and no amount of re-teaching content will move it.

A judgement problem, usually on the investigation's evaluation criterion or on Higher Level fields and quantum questions, is where the top rungs earn their numbers. These are also the shortest engagements: four to six sessions rather than a year. A family that identifies its problem correctly often ends up spending less in total at a higher hourly rate, because the engagement is short and aimed. That is the whole argument of this page compressed into a paragraph.

Where we tutor

Al Sufouh and its neighbours, from a physics timetable's point of view

Each note below is about what the location does to the cost or the timing of a physics session. A postcode changes very little about the subject and quite a lot about whether a plan survives a term.

Al Sufouh 1 and Al Sufouh 2

The coastal strip with Dubai College and GEMS Wellington International School inside it. Short school runs make an earlier slot viable, though a Diploma student's creativity, activity and service commitment usually takes the first hour after school regardless of how close home is.

Dubai Knowledge Park

Apartment blocks and university campuses, with many households where both parents work past five. Later fixed slots are the norm, and later slots are exactly where a visiting tutor's availability runs out because their day ends with the final drive.

Dubai Media City and Internet City

Workday-dominated apartment districts inland. A four o'clock physics session is unrealistic here; half past six or later is normal, and an online slot supplies that hour without a surcharge for the hour itself.

Al Barsha 1

Across Sheikh Zayed Road, with the American School of Dubai, Dubai American Academy and Kings' School Al Barsha. The nearest large Diploma and IGCSE science cohort, and the pool Al Sufouh families compete with for the same handful of local physics tutors.

The Greens and The Views

Compact low-rise communities with Regent International School inside the Greens. Short internal distances make an in-home quote look efficient, but Higher Level physics experience is not distributed by community, so proximity buys nothing on the harder requests.

Dubai Marina and JBR

Towers immediately west with limited access roads and heavy evening congestion. Diploma students here lose sessions to traffic rather than to unavailability, and a session lost to a road is often still a session billed.

Emirates Hills and the Springs

Inland villa districts served by Dubai British School Emirates Hills and Dubai International Academy Emirates Hills, the latter a long-established Diploma school. Villa spacing caps a visiting tutor at two students an evening, which is the constraint behind every in-home quote here.

Umm Suqeim and Al Safa

The Jumeirah side of the catchment, villa-heavy with British and IB schools mixed. Travel into Al Sufouh crosses two major junctions, and the premium a visiting tutor applies for that crossing is logistics rather than physics.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in Al Sufouh

Al Sufouh and the Knowledge Park edge

The schools inside or bordering Al Sufouh, covering the British pathway to A Level and the IB Diploma. That mix is why demand for Diploma physics and for A Level physics appears in the same streets in the same term. Current programme detail should be confirmed against each school's own KHDA listing.

  • Dubai College
  • GEMS Wellington International School
  • Regent International School
  • Emirates International School - Jumeirah

Al Barsha and Umm Suqeim

The nearest large cluster inland, reachable across Sheikh Zayed Road. American and British curricula dominate, with several schools running the IB Diploma alongside their main pathway, so science demand here spans Diploma physics, A Level physics and American-track courses at once.

  • American School of Dubai
  • Dubai American Academy
  • Kings' School Al Barsha
  • Al Mawakeb School Al Barsha

Emirates Hills and the lakeside communities

Inland of the Greens, drawing from the Springs, the Meadows, the Lakes and Emirates Hills. Dubai International Academy Emirates Hills has run the Diploma for many years, and mid-phase moves between these schools and Al Sufouh are common.

  • Dubai International Academy Emirates Hills
  • Dubai British School Emirates Hills
  • Emirates International School - Meadows
  • Dubai British School Jumeirah Park

Schools are named to describe the Al Sufouh education ecosystem families here already navigate. No affiliation, endorsement or partnership with any named school or group is implied, and none exists.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Ask the coordinator for level and deadlines in writing

The DP coordinator can confirm whether your child is entered at Standard or Higher Level and what the school's own internal deadlines are for the scientific investigation. Both are free and both govern the entire support plan. A plan built against a guessed deadline collides with the school's calendar, usually in the worst possible term.

  2. 02

Read the four investigation criteria before buying anything

Research design, data analysis, conclusion and evaluation, six marks each. The school holds the documentation. A student who reads the descriptors before designing an experiment behaves differently from one who reads them after writing it up, and that difference is worth more than several paid hours.

  3. 03

    Send one unmarked timed paper

An unmarked mock is diagnostic material. A marked one has usually already been converted into a score and a reassurance. Send the paper as the student produced it, and the first session can categorise the losses into content, technique, uncertainty and timing rather than counting them.

  4. 04

Take the free trial on the component that scores worst

One lesson, one subject, before any payment is taken. Spend it on Paper 2 extended response or on the investigation's evaluation section if that is where the marks go, rather than on comfortable content. The trial exists to test whether this tutor can move the hard thing.

  5. 05

Pick the rung that matches the problem, then stop

Missed content is a budget or mid-rung job. Right physics scoring badly is a specialist job. Evaluation structure and Higher Level depth are short, aimed engagements at the top rungs. Identifying the problem correctly often costs less in total at a higher hourly rate, because the engagement ends.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

Rates presented cheapest first

The market ladder on this page runs upward from AED 33 an hour, with each rung attributed to the provider who published it and read in October 2026. Presenting cost in ascending order lets a family stop at the rung that solves their problem rather than starting at the one a brochure opens with.

The free layer named before any purchase

Published investigation criteria, the DP coordinator's confirmation of level and deadlines, the school's own clinic, one unmarked mock and the official documentation cost nothing. Several Al Sufouh families who use all five find they do not need to buy anything, and saying so is part of giving honest advice.

Matched to level and to the current guide

Physics is matched to Standard or Higher Level and to a tutor who has taught the current five-theme structure rather than the previous syllabus with its separate options. A tutor planning against a structure that no longer exists will teach material the papers no longer ask for.

Investigation support that works to the descriptors

Feedback references research design, data analysis, conclusion and evaluation by name, with their six-mark allocations. Evaluation is where marks are most often left on the table, and it is the criterion most improvable in a short block. The boundary on what a tutor will not do is stated at the first session.

Online delivery stated without hedging

Lessons for UAE families are one-to-one online over live video in Gulf Standard Time. IB Gram does not send tutors to homes anywhere in the UAE; home visiting is offered only in India. Laboratory work belongs to the school, and no tutoring arrangement here claims otherwise.

No invented numbers of any kind

No satisfaction percentage, no star rating, no tutor headcount and no IB examination date appears on this page. IB dates could not be confirmed from the IB's own published source at the time of writing, so session planning here is relative and a family should confirm dates with the school's coordinator.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Al Sufouh: your questions answered

What is the cheapest useful thing I can buy for IB physics in Al Sufouh?+

One diagnostic hour built around a mock paper or an investigation draft the student has already produced, sent unmarked in advance. It ends in a written readout categorising the losses into content, technique, uncertainty handling and timing. At the mid-market band that is AED 200 to AED 300 for a single session. Several families stop there, because the readout shows the problem is covered by the school's own clinic or by two hours of work on one component rather than by a term of weekly tuition.

Can a university-student tutor at AED 45 an hour actually help with Diploma physics?+

For some jobs, yes. If a Standard Level student missed three weeks of theme A and needs patient re-teaching of kinematics, a capable undergraduate working from the student's own materials is a sensible purchase, and MoHRE's permit eligibility explicitly includes university students. What the bottom rung generally cannot do is diagnose: it answers the question asked rather than identifying the question that should have been asked, and it will not mark an extended response against examiner expectations. Those are different jobs at different rates.

How is IB physics assessed, and which component deserves the tutoring hours?+

Paper 1 carries thirty-six per cent and splits into a multiple-choice section and a data-analysis section. Paper 2 carries forty-four per cent and holds the extended-response work. The scientific investigation carries twenty. Paper 2 is the largest single component and extended-response technique is both teachable and frequently untaught, so a marginal hour usually pays best there. The Paper 1 data-analysis section is the most neglected part of the course and the most trainable, which makes three or four sessions on it high-return work.

What are the four criteria on the DP physics investigation and what is each worth?+

Research design, data analysis, conclusion and evaluation, each worth six marks for a total of twenty-four, together making twenty per cent of the final grade. Equal weighting is the fact students most often fail to act on: effort concentrates on data collection while evaluation, worth exactly the same six marks, is left as an afterthought. Confirm the current descriptors with your school, which holds the documentation, and read them before designing the experiment rather than after writing it up.

Why do students lose so many marks on the evaluation section?+

Because they write it as apology rather than analysis. The habitual version is a list of things that went wrong with human error at the top. What the criterion asks is which weaknesses materially affected the result, how large that effect plausibly was, and what a redesigned method would do about it. That shift is a change of approach rather than a knowledge gain, it is teachable in two or three sessions, and it is worth up to six marks of a twenty-four-mark component that carries a fifth of the grade.

How does online physics tuition handle laboratory work for an Al Sufouh student?+

Laboratory work belongs to the school, which holds the equipment, the technician support and the supervision requirement. Tutoring covers everything either side of the bench: designing the method so the laboratory hour produces usable data, choosing ranges and repeats, then processing the data, propagating uncertainties, deciding whether a point is genuinely anomalous and writing up against the four criteria. The assessed thinking happens mostly before and after the practical, and almost all of it is screen work.

Is a Higher Level physics tutor different from a Standard Level one?+

Often, yes, and it is worth asking directly. Standard and Higher Level share a core, and a tutor comfortable with the core can teach Standard Level well. Higher Level extends several themes, with the fields and the nuclear and quantum content being where generalist science tutors most often run out. Specialist rates of AED 200 to AED 450 and above exist largely because that experience is scarcer. For Standard Level core content, paying specialist rates is usually unnecessary.

My child's physics is correct but the marks are low. What am I buying?+

Technique, not content, and that is a specialist purchase rather than a cheap one. A student writing correct physics and scoring in the middle is normally losing marks to incomplete reasoning chains, to answers that state a relationship without applying it to the situation the question built, to dropped units, and to inconsistent precision. Re-teaching content will not move any of that. What moves it is somebody reading what the student actually wrote and showing where the chain broke, repeatedly, against the markscheme.

Does my child need a physics tutor if the school runs a science clinic?+

Often not for the same content. School clinics, intervention groups and after-school science sessions are inside the fees already paid, and a private tutor repeating Thursday's clinic material is delivering free provision a second time. One email to the subject teacher establishes what is running and whether your child is already listed. In this catchment that email regularly removes a weekly paid session, which is AED 600 to AED 1,200 a month at the mid band. Private support should cover what the school is not covering.

What time can an Al Sufouh Diploma physics session realistically start?+

School days here finish roughly between two o'clock and half past three depending on the school and the phase, and most Diploma students have a creativity, activity and service commitment, a clinic or a fixture afterwards. A student walking home within Al Sufouh can be at a desk by half past four. A household commuting back to Media City, Internet City or Al Barsha is realistically available from six. Online slots run into the evening in Gulf Standard Time and can move post-Iftar during Ramadan.

Is an in-home physics tutor in Al Sufouh worth the published premium?+

The in-home band of AED 180 to AED 500 an hour including travel overlaps almost entirely with the online specialist band of AED 200 to AED 450 and above, so the choice is about what the money selects for rather than about the money. Presence is genuinely valuable for a student who will not engage with a screen. What it does not buy is the Higher Level fields and quantum specialist, because those people are distributed across the whole market rather than across New Dubai. IB Gram delivers UAE lessons online only.

Does a physics tutor in Dubai need a permit, and can a teacher tutor my child?+

A permit is required and costs nothing: the private tuition work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023 and is granted free of charge for two years, with MoHRE listing a two-working-day completion time and no fee. Individuals tutoring without one face fines and penalties under the applicable laws, and no fine schedule is published. On teachers: Abu Dhabi's professional-ethics rules bar school staff from paid private tutoring of students enrolled at their own school, and the permit's code of conduct bars serving students affiliated with the teacher's own school.

How many sessions does Paper 2 extended response actually take to improve?+

Six to ten in most cases, because it is a habit rather than a fact. The work is repetitive by design: the student writes a response, the tutor reads it against the markscheme, and the two of them locate the step where the reasoning chain stopped. Early sessions usually reveal the same failure repeatedly, which is a good sign rather than a bad one. Paper 2 carries forty-four per cent of the grade, so this is the component where a block of sessions has the largest arithmetic effect.

Can a tutor help with a physics Extended Essay as well as the investigation?+

Within the same boundary, yes. A tutor can discuss whether a research question is feasible and appropriately scoped, question a method, ask what the data supports, and give feedback on a draft the student has written. A tutor cannot write, draft, complete or produce the essay, and should not edit it until the voice is no longer the student's. The school appoints the Extended Essay supervisor and the student signs any authenticity declaration. A student carrying both plus Higher Level physics has a calendar problem worth planning in Year 12.

What happens if no Higher Level physics specialist is free for our slot?+

You are told, with a timescale, rather than matched with somebody approximate. Higher Level fields and quantum physics is one of the scarcer teaching specialisms in this market. Where no match is free at an Al Sufouh-friendly hour, the realistic options are a tutor in another time zone covering an evening slot in Gulf Standard Time, a short wait with a named date, or one diagnostic hour with a strong generalist to establish precisely what the specialist will be needed for. Disclosure beats a poor match.

Should I buy a bundle of past papers and markschemes from a tutoring provider?+

No. Syllabus documents, past papers, markschemes and grade-boundary tables belong to the IB and to the awarding bodies, and reproducing them as downloads is copyright infringement. For unreleased material it is also a malpractice exposure. A legitimate tutor references them, cites the official source and links out, and works from material the school already holds. If a provider offers a paper bundle as a selling point, the right question is where it came from and who authorised its distribution.

Spend nothing first, then buy the rung that fits

If you are looking for an IB physics tutor in Al Sufouh, work upwards. Get the level and the internal deadlines in writing from the DP coordinator. Read the four investigation criteria. Ask the subject teacher what the school already runs. Have your child sit one timed paper and leave it unmarked. Then book the free trial lesson, one subject, no payment taken beforehand, and use the readout to pick the rung that matches the actual problem. Lessons run live online, one-to-one, in Gulf Standard Time.
