IGCSE Maths Tutor in Arabian Ranches 3

Three different qualifications hide behind the phrase IGCSE maths tutor, and which one your child in Arabian Ranches 3 is entered for changes the papers, the tiering and the calculator. Cambridge 0580, Cambridge International Mathematics 0607 and Pearson 4MA1 are not variants of each other. IB Gram matches a tutor to the code on the entry and teaches one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time. The first lesson is a marked past paper, and it costs nothing.

  • Matched to the syllabus code, not to the word mathematics
  • First lesson is a real past paper, marked against the published scheme
  • Lessons run one-to-one over live video, never as a villa visit
  • Tier and entry deadline flagged to you while they can still be changed

IB & IGCSE in Arabian Ranches 3

Three syllabuses, one phrase on the invoice

The useful comparison in IGCSE mathematics is not between neighbourhoods. It is between the three qualifications Dubai schools actually enter students for. Cambridge Mathematics 0580 is the default at most British-curriculum campuses in the Dubailand belt. Cambridge International Mathematics 0607 is a separate syllabus, not a variant, with a graphics calculator built into the course and an investigation flavour to some of its questions. Pearson Edexcel International GCSE Mathematics A 4MA1 uses Foundation and Higher tiers rather than Core and Extended and sits papers in its own house style.

Two children living on the same street in Arabian Ranches 3 can be entered for different ones, because they attend different campuses. That is the whole answer to the question families here actually ask, which is whether the community matters. It does not. The campus matters, because the campus is the examination centre and it decides the board, the syllabus and the tier. The postcode decides how long the child spends on a bus.

A tutor matched on the wrong code wastes a term in a way that is invisible until a mock. The content overlaps enough that lessons feel productive. The question styles differ enough that the practice transfers poorly, so a student arrives at the paper having rehearsed the wrong shape of question. The fix costs one email to the school's exams officer: board, syllabus code, tier, and the Cambridge administrative zone if the entry is with Cambridge.

On delivery, plainly, since the search phrase invites the question. No tutor is sent to an address in Arabian Ranches 3, and IB Gram does not make home visits in Dubai at all; the in-home service exists only in India. Mathematics here is taught one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time, on a shared whiteboard the student writes on while the tutor watches. For mathematics that is a real advantage rather than a concession: the error is almost always in the method, and the method is visible line by line as it happens instead of arriving as a finished page.

What follows is the comparison done properly, because the research behind this project found exactly one syllabus code mentioned across an entire cluster of competitor pages for this area. The three syllabuses are set out side by side. The tiers appear with their grade ceilings and with the deadline at which a ceiling stops being negotiable, which is the day the centre submits its final entries, months ahead of the first paper of the June or November series. The additional mathematics qualifications some campuses offer alongside the main entry are named, because they change what a student can do at sixteen and nobody mentions them. There is a topic-by-topic account of where marks actually leave an IGCSE mathematics script, which turns out to be seven categories, six of them mechanical. There is a structured version of the gap between IGCSE Extended and Diploma mathematics, which is the reason a strong Year 11 can receive a mediocre first DP1 report. And the cost section starts at the cheapest adequate rung rather than at the most impressive one, because for most requests in this belt the cheapest adequate rung is the correct answer.

At a glance

  • Cambridge 0580, Cambridge 0607 and Pearson 4MA1 are three separate qualifications
  • A Cambridge Core entry caps the grade at C; Extended opens the full range
  • The tier is submitted by the school with its final entries and fixed from then
  • Calculus is absent from most IGCSE mathematics syllabuses and assumed from DP1 term one
  • The campus, not the community, decides which syllabus a child sits
  • Lessons are delivered online; home visits are an India-only service
IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Mathematics decisions in a Dubai British-curriculum school are taken at four points, and three of them are taken before anyone thinks of hiring a tutor. These are the four, with what each one settles and what it leaves open.

Y9Ages 13-14 · Year 9

Choosing the mathematics route, Year 9

The point at which a school's option process sets the mathematics route, sometimes including whether a student is on a track toward Core or Extended and whether Additional Mathematics will be available later. Nothing external is sat, so the only evidence a parent has is the school's internal assessment. A diagnostic on a real paper at this stage is cheap and is the moment at which a trajectory can still be changed without any administrative consequence.

Dubai campuses in the Dubailand belt run different option blocks, so children from the same community can emerge from Year 9 on different mathematics routes. Families here often compare notes and conclude something is wrong when the real difference is simply that two schools structure the year differently.

0580Ages 14-16 · Years 10-11

The two-year IGCSE mathematics course

Two years of content with one administrative moment that matters: the tier submitted with the centre's final entries. Content is front-loaded into Year 10 and the harder material lands in Year 11, which is why a student can be comfortable for twelve months and then meet trouble in a spring mock. The honest diagnosis separates a late-taught topic from a genuine weakness, and only a marked script does that.

Across the Dubailand campuses this is the most commonly entered mathematics qualification, and the one most tutoring in the belt is aimed at. Where a school runs Cambridge International Mathematics 0607 instead, the preparation changes materially, so the code is worth confirming rather than assuming.

0606Ages 15-16 · Year 11

Additional Mathematics alongside the main entry

An extra Cambridge qualification taken by strong Extended students, usually in Year 11 and usually in addition to 0580 rather than instead of it. It introduces calculus, further algebra and more trigonometry, which is precisely the material the Diploma assumes from its first term. Students who sit it arrive in DP1 with the biggest single gap already closed, and students who do not are not disadvantaged permanently.

Not every Dubai school offers it, and availability varies between campuses in the same belt. For a family whose child is heading toward Analysis and Approaches at Higher Level it is worth asking whether the school runs it, because the alternative is closing the same gap during DP1 when there is less time to spare.

DP1Ages 16-17 · Year 12

The step into Diploma or A Level mathematics

The first term after IGCSE is where the gap shows. Diploma mathematics assumes radians, composite functions, exact-value work without a calculator and, in Analysis and Approaches, differentiation almost immediately. A Level makes comparable assumptions. A student with a strong Extended grade and no calculus exposure is not weak; they are missing specific prerequisites that can be named and taught.

From Arabian Ranches 3 both post-16 routes are available but at different campuses, which means the decision carries a commute as well as a curriculum. The mathematics requirement is usually the binding constraint on that choice, so it is worth checking the receiving school's entry grade in Year 11 rather than after results.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

An IGCSE mathematics page should name the topic areas rather than list unrelated subjects. These are the areas the syllabuses cover, written with the error that actually recurs in each rather than with a content summary a parent could read on the school's own page.

Number

Core and Extended, or Foundation and Higher

Standard form, surds at the higher tiers, bounds, and the percentage work that catches most students out. Reverse percentage and compound change are routinely confused, and a plausible wrong answer attracts no method credit. Writing the multiplier before touching the numbers removes most of this category.

Algebra and graphs

Core and Extended, or Foundation and Higher

The single largest source of lost marks. Sign errors in expanding and factorising propagate into every later line of a multi-step question, so one slip costs a whole answer rather than a mark. Short daily sets on signs alone are duller and more effective than another topic sheet.

Coordinate geometry

Core and Extended, or Foundation and Higher

Gradients, parallel and perpendicular lines, midpoints and the equation of a straight line. Marks leave when a student finds a gradient correctly and then writes the equation in a form the question did not ask for, which is a reading problem rather than a mathematical one.

Geometry and angle reasoning

Core and Extended, or Foundation and Higher

Circle theorems and angle chains, where the mark is often for naming the reason rather than for the number. Students give a correct angle and omit the justification, which is the cheapest category on the whole syllabus to fix because the mathematics is already right.

Mensuration

Core and Extended, or Foundation and Higher

Area, volume, surface area, arcs and sectors. Losses cluster around units and around rounding applied mid-calculation, both of which carry separately allocated accuracy marks. Keeping full precision to the final line removes the second category entirely.

Trigonometry

Core and Extended, or Foundation and Higher

Right-angled work plus the sine and cosine rules at the higher tiers. The characteristic failure is choosing the wrong rule at the start and losing the entire question from one decision. A two-question routine applied before any calculation fixes it in a session or two.

Transformations and vectors

Extended and Higher tiers

Column vectors, magnitude, and describing transformations fully. Marks are allocated to the completeness of the description, so a student who names a rotation without the centre or the direction has done the mathematics and not collected the credit for it.

Probability

Core and Extended, or Foundation and Higher

Tree and Venn diagrams, conditional reasoning at the higher tiers. The recurring error is a tree whose branches do not sum correctly, which matters because later parts depend on the diagram and the loss compounds through the question rather than stopping at one mark.

Statistics

Core and Extended, or Foundation and Higher

Averages from grouped data, cumulative frequency, histograms with unequal class widths. The histogram is the standing trap: frequency density has to be calculated rather than assumed, and a correct-looking chart built on frequency alone collects almost nothing.

Additional Mathematics content

Cambridge 0606, where the school offers it

Calculus, further algebra, logarithms and more trigonometry, taken alongside the main entry by strong Extended students. It is the closest thing available to a bridge into Diploma or A Level mathematics, and the students who sit it meet DP1 differentiation as revision rather than as new material.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three arrangements cover almost every mathematics request from this belt, and the right one depends on which of three problems a marked paper reveals. They are listed by problem rather than by price.

Weekly one-to-one on a named syllabus

One code, one tier, one fixed hour. The first session is a past paper from that syllabus, worked live rather than revised beforehand, so the plan starts from a marked script. Where the entry is 0607 the session includes the graphics calculator from the first question, because device fluency is part of the assessment rather than an aid to it.

  • Syllabus code and tier confirmed before the first lesson
  • Shared whiteboard, so the method is visible as it is written
  • Calculator model matched to the one the school uses
  • Written notes naming the topics worked and the errors seen
  • Timed sections introduced once two topics are secure

A tier and route consultation

One or two sessions bought as a decision rather than as teaching, ideally before the centre submits final entries. A marked paper read for what the student can do at the higher tier's demand, the grade ceilings laid out, and an honest recommendation the family can take to the subject teacher. The decision itself always belongs to the school.

  • A real marked paper rather than a predicted grade as the evidence
  • Grade ceilings and post-16 consequences set out plainly
  • Whether Additional Mathematics is worth asking the school about
  • A written summary to take into the school conversation
  • No standing booking proposed if the consultation is all that is needed

A bridging block into Diploma or A Level mathematics

Taken after the IGCSE series and before DP1 or Year 12, usually across the summer or the first weeks of term. It targets the named prerequisites: radians, exact values without a calculator, composite functions and an introduction to differentiation. Short, specific and finite, and it removes the commonest cause of a bad DP1 first report.

  • Radians taught properly before the first Diploma trigonometry topic
  • Non-calculator sets, with the device out of reach
  • Composite and inverse function notation, which is the real obstacle
  • A first pass at differentiation for students who did not sit 0606
  • An explicit end point, usually the first school assessment of DP1

Cambridge 0580, Cambridge 0607 and Pearson 4MA1 compared

Start with the comparison nobody publishes. Across the whole area cluster researched for this project, exactly one syllabus code appeared on any competitor page. That is a strange omission, because the code is the single most useful fact about a mathematics entry and the schools supply it on request.

Cambridge Mathematics 0580 is the default across most Dubai British-curriculum campuses. It is tiered into Core and Extended, with Core capping the grade at C and Extended opening the full range. Cambridge International Mathematics 0607 is a different syllabus with its own tiering, built around a graphics calculator and carrying a stronger investigation flavour in parts of its assessment. Pearson Edexcel International GCSE Mathematics A 4MA1 uses Foundation and Higher tiers and sets questions in Pearson's own style, which is recognisably not Cambridge's even where the mathematics is identical.

Because Cambridge and Pearson both revise their assessment arrangements between series, the honest instruction on paper counts, durations and calculator permissions is to read the current syllabus or specification for the series your child is actually entered for, on cambridgeinternational.org or qualifications.pearson.com. This page links those rather than restating details that can change, which is a discipline most tutoring sites in this market do not keep: several still display arrangements that have since been superseded.

What does not change between series is the consequence for preparation. A student who revises from the other board's past papers has practised the wrong house style and will meet unfamiliar phrasing under time pressure. A 0607 student who has drilled non-calculator arithmetic has spent weeks on something their paper does not reward. Matching the code is not pedantry; it is the difference between practice that transfers and practice that does not.

Tiers and grade ceilings, and the day the ceiling stops moving

A tier is a ceiling, and a ceiling is the one thing in an IGCSE year that no amount of tutoring can lift. A Cambridge Core entry caps the available grade at C. That is sufficient for some post-16 routes and closes others, particularly A Level mathematics and either Diploma mathematics course at Higher Level. Pearson's Foundation tier works the same way with its own range. Parents routinely learn about the ceiling from a sixth-form entry requirement rather than from a school report.

The decision belongs to the school on the subject teacher's recommendation, and it is submitted with the centre's final entries. That submission date is therefore the practical deadline for the whole conversation. Cambridge runs IGCSE in a June series and a November series, and UAE centres sit those two; Pearson Edexcel International GCSE runs in May or June and again in November. In both cases entries close months before the first paper, so a tier discussion held in the spring term of a June series is a discussion after the board has already been told the answer. The exams officer holds the exact date for the series your child is entered for.

What makes the conversation productive before that date is evidence rather than opinion. A marked higher-tier paper showing which questions the student can already attempt is a different kind of argument from a parent's impression of their capability. Teachers recommend tiers partly on risk: a student entered too high and sitting unfamiliar questions can score worse than the same student entered appropriately. That is a reasonable concern and a marked script is the right answer to it.

After the deadline, the honest advice is to stop asking about the tier and spend the hour on marks within it. Both positions are defensible; mixing them up, which is common, costs a term of attention on something that is no longer movable.

The extra mathematics qualifications some campuses offer

A quieter comparison, and one that matters more than the tier for a student heading toward Higher Level mathematics. Some Dubai campuses offer an additional mathematics qualification in Year 11, taken alongside the main entry by students already secure on the higher tier. Cambridge Additional Mathematics 0606 is the common one; Pearson centres may offer Further Pure Mathematics 4PM1 to a similar purpose.

What these add is the material the Diploma assumes and the main IGCSE syllabuses largely do not: calculus, further algebra, logarithms and more trigonometry. A student who has sat one of them meets differentiation in DP1 as revision. A student who has not meets it as new content in the same term as everything else, which is the single most common reason a strong IGCSE mathematician gets a disappointing first Diploma report. The gap is not a reflection of ability; it is a curriculum seam.

Availability varies between campuses in the same belt, which is one of the few places where comparing communities produces a real difference, and even then it is the campus rather than the community doing the work. The question to ask the school is simply whether it offers an additional mathematics qualification, who is eligible, and when the decision is made. If it does not, the same ground can be covered in a short bridging block after the series, which is what most families end up doing.

Nothing about this is required. A student can reach Analysis and Approaches at Higher Level without an additional qualification and do well. The point of naming it is that the alternative, closing the gap during DP1, costs more attention at a busier time, and knowing that in Year 10 is worth more than discovering it in Year 12.

Where IGCSE mathematics marks are actually lost, topic by topic

This is the shortest useful list on the page. After one marked paper, almost every lost mark falls into one of seven categories, and six of the seven are mechanical rather than conceptual. That matters for a family deciding whether an hour a week is worth buying, because mechanical losses respond to practice on a scale of weeks.

Algebra is the largest single source, and specifically signs. An error expanding or factorising propagates into every subsequent line, so a single slip costs a whole question rather than a mark. The remedy is unglamorous: short daily sets on signs alone until the slip stops appearing, which is more effective than another full topic sheet. Percentage work produces the second largest category, with reverse percentage and compound change confused often enough that writing the multiplier before touching any numbers is worth drilling as a reflex.

Then there are the categories where the mathematics is already correct and the credit is not collected. Angle reasoning questions award marks for naming the reason, and students give the number and move on. Transformation questions award marks for the completeness of the description, so a rotation named without its centre and direction loses marks the student had earned. Graph sketches award marks for intercepts, asymptotes and turning points, which go unlabelled. These are the cheapest fixes available anywhere on the syllabus.

The last two are about process. Method not shown, because mark schemes award method marks for the working rather than the answer, which is the habit of students who have always been right. And rounding and units: rounding applied mid-calculation propagates error, and omitted units lose separately allocated accuracy marks. Holding full precision to the final line and writing the unit as part of the answer removes both.

05

The campus decides the syllabus, not the postcode

Here is the comparison this page exists to resolve. Families in the Dubailand belt compare communities as though the tutoring answer changed between them. It does not. The entry deadline is the same, the mark schemes are the same, the papers are the same, and the errors are lost in the same seven places. What differs between Arabian Ranches 3, Mudon, Town Square and Motor City is how long a child sits in a vehicle, which affects what hour a session can start and nothing else.

What does differ, genuinely and importantly, is the campus. The campus is the examination centre. It chooses the board, enters the syllabus code, sets the tier, decides whether an additional mathematics qualification is available, runs the mock calendar and sets the internal coursework deadlines. Two children in the same phase of Arabian Ranches 3 attending different campuses need different plans, and two children in different communities attending the same campus need the same plan.

That reframes the useful question. Rather than asking who is the best mathematics tutor near Arabian Ranches 3, ask the school's exams officer for four facts: board, syllabus code, tier and, where the entry is with Cambridge, the administrative zone. Cambridge allocates every centre to one of six zones and states in its own guidance that it is essential to use the correct version of the timetable for the zone, adding that it cannot accept responsibility for candidates who miss an exam after using the wrong one.

With those four facts a parent can compare tutors on something real: has this person taught this code, at this tier, for how many cohorts, and can they mark a paper against its scheme. Without them, the comparison reduces to distance, which is the only input on the list with no measurable effect on a mark.

The gap between IGCSE Extended and Diploma mathematics

One competitor page in the research for this project has a single subheading about the IGCSE-to-IB gap. Nobody has a structured, subject-by-subject version, which is odd because it explains the most common bad surprise in the Dubai academic year: a student with a strong Extended grade receiving a mediocre first Diploma mathematics report.

The gap is specific and nameable. Radians: IGCSE works in degrees throughout and the Diploma treats radians as the default unit almost immediately. Exact values and surds without a calculator: Analysis and Approaches sits a paper with no calculator permitted, and a student who has worked with a device on the desk for two years has no fluency in that register. Composite and inverse function notation, which is more an obstacle of language than of mathematics but trips students for weeks. And calculus, which is absent from the main IGCSE syllabuses and assumed from the first term of DP1 unless the student sat an additional qualification.

None of those is a weakness. They are prerequisites that the curriculum seam leaves unaddressed, and they are teachable in a short, specific block rather than through a term of general support. Four to six sessions across a summer, aimed at radians, non-calculator work, function notation and a first pass at differentiation, changes the first Diploma report more reliably than the same hours spent in October when everything else is also competing for attention.

For Applications and Interpretation the emphasis shifts. The calculus gap is smaller and the statistics gap is larger, because that course expects distributions, correlation and written interpretation at a depth the IGCSE statistics topics do not approach. The bridging work is the same idea pointed at different content, which is one more reason to know which Diploma route the student is heading for before the bridging block is planned.

What IGCSE mathematics tuition costs, cheapest rung first

Most pages in this market start at the premium end because that is where the margin is. Start at the bottom instead, because for a large share of IGCSE mathematics requests the cheapest adequate rung is the right one and buying above it is simply waste.

The lowest rung is a group class at a tuition centre, priced per course rather than per hour, and it suits a student roughly at the group's pace who works better with other people in the room. Above that sits budget online one-to-one at AED 45 to 150 an hour, with EdFlik advertising from AED 45 to 65 and Tutopiya from AED 33 to 52, which is a sound purchase for Year 9 and Year 10 consolidation and a poor one for Extended-tier method marks. The rung that matches most Year 11 needs is a qualified subject tutor working online at AED 150 to 300, with Unitors publishing IGCSE from AED 150. For a standard Extended entry, that is usually where the ladder should stop.

Above it the money starts buying things an IGCSE student may not need. In-home one-to-one including travel is published at AED 180 to 500, with Bestimate at AED 180 to 350 and independent home tutors advertising AED 200 to 500; the premium is justified for a young child who will not work without an adult beside them and not for a Year 11 whose problem is unshown method. IB and IGCSE specialists are published at AED 200 to 450 and above, with TutorChase quoting AED 270, which earns its rate for a bridging block into Diploma mathematics or a Further Pure entry. A premium tier advertises examiner experience at AED 500 to 650 and above, with BartyED publishing AED 650, and there is nothing a standard IGCSE mathematics entry specifically requires at that level.

Monthly, Bestimate's 2026 estimates for a weekly one-hour session run AED 240 to 600 at the budget end, AED 600 to 1,200 in the middle and AED 1,000 to 2,000 or more for specialist exam-year work, with packaged pricing in the market at about AED 799 a month for eight online sessions. Each figure here is another provider's published number or a published rate survey, cited so you can check it rather than take it on faith. IB Gram publishes no price list on these pages; the free first lesson exists so the figure arrives with a named tutor attached.

Past papers, the boards' own materials, and booking from Arabian Ranches 3

Past papers are the most productive hour an IGCSE mathematics student can spend and they have to be sourced properly. Cambridge and Pearson syllabus documents, past papers, mark schemes and grade-boundary tables are copyright material. IB Gram does not host them, email them or supply them as downloads; they come from the school's own subscription or the board's official channels. A provider offering a folder of papers is handing you a copyright problem, and where any material is unreleased it becomes a malpractice exposure for the student.

Used properly a paper generates information rather than a score. The student works questions live on the shared board while the tutor stops at the point the method goes wrong, which is rarely the line where the answer went wrong. Working by topic until a topic is secure, then moving to mixed papers, produces honest signals; attempting the same paper four times produces a rising score and no learning. The test of whether topic work has landed is a question on that topic inside a mixed paper, answered unaided, a week or more later.

Booking is short. Tell us the board, the syllabus code, the tier and the hour your child is genuinely free; we propose one tutor with the code they teach stated and their permit position; the first lesson runs free with no card details taken and is spent on a real paper. You keep the marked script and the written notes whether you continue or not. If the match is wrong, saying so after the first lesson is the expected outcome. Where the best fit is an India-based tutor, that is said plainly ahead of payment, and the slot remains on Gulf Standard Time.

On data: an enquiry collects the child's name, school, year group, syllabus and tier, because the matching does not work without them. We need neither a report card nor a photograph in order to propose a tutor, a deletion request is honoured, and the privacy notice linked from this page sets out how long anything is kept under UAE Federal Decree-Law No. 45 of 2021 on Personal Data Protection.

Where we tutor

The communities compared, and why the answer does not change

Families in the Dubailand belt compare themselves constantly. For mathematics the comparison resolves in one line: the campus decides the syllabus and the postcode decides the commute. Each note below says what the community genuinely changes.

Arabian Ranches 3

No school inside the gates, so children are spread across several campuses and therefore across different mathematics syllabuses. The first question from here is always which code, because the answer varies house by house rather than community by community.

Arabian Ranches and Arabian Ranches 2

Heavily concentrated on JESS Arabian Ranches and Ranches Primary School, which makes the syllabus answer more uniform than in the newer phases. Settled afternoons mean earlier slots hold, which matters when a timed paper needs a clear hour.

Mudon

Overlapping bus routes with Arabian Ranches 3 and the same campuses, so the syllabus mix is nearly identical. Families here and in the Ranches phases frequently book consecutive slots with the same tutor for children in the same year.

Town Square

A different run toward Al Qudra that shifts the realistic start time by about fifteen minutes. The entry codes, the tiers and the mark schemes are the same, which is the point the comparison keeps returning.

Motor City

GEMS Metropole is close enough for a short journey, so an earlier mathematics session is viable and a full timed paper fits a weekday evening. That is a scheduling advantage rather than an academic one.

Dubai Sports City

Victory Heights and the nearby campuses dominate, and afternoon slots work more often than from the outer Dubailand phases. The syllabus question still has to be asked of the school rather than inferred from the address.

Dubai Hills Estate

Journeys run north rather than through Dubailand, and families moving between here and the Ranches mid-course usually keep the tutor and move the hour. Nothing about the qualification travels with the move.

Remraam and DAMAC Hills

South View School features heavily and the bus runs are the longest in the belt, which is why weekend mornings are requested most from these communities. For a timed mathematics paper that is genuinely the better slot.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in Arabian Ranches 3

Campuses that set the mathematics syllabus for this belt

Each of these is an examination centre, which means each decides the board, the syllabus code, the tier and the mock calendar for its own students. A tutoring plan starts from this list rather than from the community, and the same community can appear against several entries.

  • Jumeirah English Speaking School, Arabian Ranches
  • GEMS Metropole School, Motor City
  • Dubai British School Mira
  • South View School, Remraam
  • GEMS FirstPoint School, The Villa
  • Victory Heights Primary School, Dubai Sports City
  • The Aquila School, Dubailand

Post-16 destinations where the mathematics requirement bites

The IGCSE mathematics grade and tier are usually the binding constraint on the post-16 choice, so these campuses come up during Year 11 rather than after it. Named as context for that decision only.

  • Fairgreen International School, The Sustainable City
  • Nord Anglia International School Dubai, Al Barsha South
  • Dubai International Academy, Al Barsha
  • Repton Al Barsha
  • Kings' School Nad Al Sheba
  • North London Collegiate School Dubai

Schools are named as local context for a family comparing campuses or planning a mathematics route. IB Gram has no affiliation with, and claims no endorsement from, any school or group named, and inspection outcomes should be read on the regulator's own site.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Get four facts from the exams officer

Board, syllabus code, tier and, for a Cambridge entry, the administrative zone. Those four turn an impossible comparison of tutors into a straightforward one, and they decide which past papers are worth your child's evening. A single email produces all four.

  2. 02

Send a marked paper, not a predicted grade

A script shows which of the seven error categories is costing marks. A predicted grade records a teacher's estimate of an outcome. Only one of those can be planned against, which is why the free first lesson is spent producing a marked script rather than discussing one.

  3. 03

One tutor proposed, with the code named

You receive a single match with the syllabus they have taught, the tier, their permit position and whether they are UAE-based. Where coverage in your slot is thin you are told at this stage. No shortlist, because a shortlist returns the assessment to the parent who cannot make it.

  4. 04

Flag the tier while it is still movable

If the marked paper suggests the tier is wrong, you hear that in writing early enough to take it to the subject teacher before final entries are submitted. The decision belongs to the school; the evidence is what makes the conversation useful rather than awkward.

  5. 05

Topic work, then timed papers, then stop

Topics until two are secure, then mixed timed papers, with a halfway review against a paper the student has not practised. When the work is done the booking ends, and if a bridging block into Diploma mathematics is what is actually needed, we say so rather than extending the current one.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

The comparison is between syllabuses, not neighbourhoods

Exactly one syllabus code appeared across the whole area cluster researched for this project. Cambridge 0580, Cambridge 0607 and Pearson 4MA1 are separate qualifications, and matching a tutor to the code is the difference between practice that transfers and practice that does not.

The tier is flagged while it can still change

A Core entry caps the grade at C and the tier is fixed once the centre submits final entries, which happens months ahead of the first paper of the June or November series. Your exams officer holds that date. A marked paper in the autumn is the only thing that makes the tier conversation productive rather than awkward.

Paper details point at the board, not at us

Paper counts, durations and calculator permissions are revised between series, so this page links the current Cambridge syllabus and Pearson specification rather than restating arrangements that can change. Several pages in this market still display superseded details.

The Diploma gap is named topic by topic

Radians, exact values without a calculator, composite function notation and calculus. One competitor page has a single subheading about this transition; nobody publishes a structured version, and it is the commonest cause of a disappointing first Diploma report.

The cheapest adequate rung is recommended

For a standard Extended entry the right band is a qualified subject tutor at the published AED 150 to 300, not the premium tier at AED 500 to 650 and above. A page that recommends its own most expensive option for every request is selling rather than advising.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Arabian Ranches 3: your questions answered

How do I find out which IGCSE mathematics syllabus my child is entered for?+

Email the school's exams officer and ask for four things: the board, the syllabus code, the tier and, where the entry is with Cambridge, the administrative zone. The code will be something like 0580, 0607 or 4MA1, and it decides which past papers are useful and which are a waste of an evening. Cambridge allocates every centre to one of six zones and states that using the correct zone timetable is essential, adding that it cannot accept responsibility for candidates who miss an exam after using the wrong version.

Is Cambridge 0607 harder than 0580?+

It is a different syllabus rather than a harder one. Cambridge International Mathematics 0607 is built around a graphics calculator and carries an investigation flavour in parts of its assessment, where 0580 is a more conventional structured syllabus. Students on 0607 lose marks to device fluency rather than to the mathematics, which is a different problem needing different practice. Both are tiered, so both carry a grade ceiling at the lower tier. For the current paper arrangements of either, read the syllabus for the series on cambridgeinternational.org.

Does Pearson 4MA1 cover the same content as Cambridge 0580?+

The content overlaps substantially and the assessment does not. Pearson uses Foundation and Higher tiers where Cambridge uses Core and Extended, and Pearson sets questions in its own recognisable house style. The practical consequence is that a student revising from Cambridge past papers for a Pearson entry has rehearsed the wrong phrasing and will meet unfamiliar question shapes under time pressure. Confirm the code with the school and read the current specification on qualifications.pearson.com for the series your child is sitting.

What is the highest grade available on a Cambridge Core entry?+

C. The Core tier covers the shared content of the syllabus and caps the available grade there, while Extended opens the full A* to E range. That ceiling is sufficient for some post-16 routes and closes others, notably A Level mathematics and either Diploma mathematics course at Higher Level. Parents often discover it from a sixth-form entry requirement rather than from a school report. The tier is set by the school on the subject teacher's recommendation and is fixed once final entries are submitted to the board.

Why does my daughter lose marks when her answers are correct?+

Almost always because the marks were not allocated to the answer. Mark schemes award method marks for the working, so a correct final figure with nothing between it and the question collects a fraction of what was available. Angle reasoning questions award marks for naming the theorem rather than for the number. Transformation questions award marks for a complete description, so a rotation without its centre and direction loses credit already earned. Graph questions award marks for intercepts and asymptotes, which go unlabelled. All of those are habits, not knowledge gaps.

Which calculator should my son be using for IGCSE mathematics?+

The model the school uses, which the mathematics department will name. It matters more than parents expect: for Cambridge International Mathematics 0607 a graphics calculator is integral to the course rather than an aid to it, so fluency with the specific device is part of the preparation. For other syllabuses the calculator permissions are set in the current syllabus for the series entered, and Cambridge and Pearson revise those arrangements between series, so read the board's own document rather than any summary, including this one.

How big is the jump from IGCSE Extended to Analysis and Approaches at Higher Level?+

Specific rather than vague, which is the good news. Four things close it: radians, which IGCSE never uses and the Diploma treats as default; exact values and surds without a calculator, because Analysis and Approaches sits a non-calculator paper; composite and inverse function notation, which is a language obstacle more than a mathematical one; and calculus, absent from the main IGCSE syllabuses and assumed from the first term of DP1. Four to six sessions across a summer, aimed at exactly those, changes the first Diploma report more than the same hours spent in October.

Would a mathematics tutor living in Arabian Ranches 2 teach anything different?+

No. The tutor's address has no bearing on the syllabus, the tier, the papers or the mark scheme, and children in Arabian Ranches 2, Mudon, Town Square and Arabian Ranches 3 attend overlapping campuses and sit the same entries. What proximity changes is journey time, and because lessons run over live video there is no journey to change. What actually differs between tutors is which syllabus code they have taught and how many cohorts of it they have taken through a series, and that is the thing to ask about.

Can my child take Additional Mathematics alongside the main IGCSE entry?+

If the campus offers it. Cambridge Additional Mathematics 0606 is taken by secure Extended students, usually in Year 11 and in addition to the main entry rather than instead of it, and Pearson centres may offer Further Pure Mathematics 4PM1 to similar effect. Both introduce calculus, further algebra and more trigonometry, which is the material the Diploma assumes from day one. Availability varies between campuses in the same belt, so ask the school whether it runs one, who is eligible and when the decision is made.

How many mathematics sessions a week does a Year 11 in Dubai actually need?+

One, in most cases, plus the student's own practice between them. A single well-used hour with a marked paper behind it does more than two unfocused ones, because the limiting factor is usually what the student does in the six days between sessions rather than the session itself. Two a week earns its place in the final eight weeks before a series, when timed papers need running alongside topic work. Three is almost always a sign that the diagnosis was never done properly in the first place.

Is it worth starting mathematics support in Year 10 rather than Year 11?+

Year 10 is cheaper in every sense. The tier is still open, the entry deadline is a year away, the content being taught is current rather than historical, and a habit built then carries through the second year without further spend. Year 11 support is reactive by design: the hardest material is landing, the mock has usually already happened, and the tier may already be fixed. Most families call after the first Year 11 mock, which is roughly four months after the result it reports was decided.

What does IGCSE mathematics tutoring cost around Mudon and Arabian Ranches 3?+

The band that matches most Year 11 needs is a qualified subject tutor working online, published at AED 150 to 300 an hour, with Unitors listing IGCSE from AED 150. Below that, budget online tuition runs AED 45 to 150, with EdFlik from AED 45 to 65 and Tutopiya from AED 33 to 52, which suits consolidation rather than Extended-tier technique. In-home visits including travel are quoted at AED 180 to 500. Those are other providers' published figures, cited so you can check them, and the geography makes no difference to any of them.

Does my child need a tutor if the school has a strong KHDA inspection rating?+

The two questions are answered with different evidence. KHDA inspects Dubai private schools annually on a six-band scale from Outstanding to Very Weak, and the outcome describes the institution: leadership, teaching across the school, provision for different groups. A strongly rated school can still have a Year 11 losing fifteen marks a paper to unshown method, and a lower-rated school can teach mathematics very well. The band helps you choose a campus. A marked past paper tells you what your own child needs, and nothing else does.

Can one tutor cover mathematics and a science in the same week?+

Frequently yes, and it is one of the more sensible pairings. Mathematics and physics in particular share technique: unit discipline, rearranging formulae, graph interpretation and the habit of showing method. A single tutor covering both keeps that teaching consistent and gives the household one slot to protect instead of two. Three separate sciences plus mathematics is a different matter and is usually two people. We say which it should be at the match stage rather than agreeing to whatever is asked for.

What happens if no IGCSE mathematics tutor is free at the hour we need?+

You are told at the match stage rather than left waiting. Mathematics is the best-staffed subject in this set on UAE evening hours, so a straightforward Extended or Higher-tier request is usually filled within a few days. The slots that get tight are the final weeks before a series and the 16:30 to 17:00 window that every family in the belt wants. If the person who fits is in India rather than the UAE, that is on the table before any money is, and the lesson keeps its Gulf Standard Time slot.
