IB MYP Tutor in Arabian Ranches 3

An IB MYP tutor in Arabian Ranches 3 is usually wanted at a particular moment in the school year, not in the abstract: a report has come home with criterion marks nobody at home can decode, or MYP 5 has started and the Personal Project deadline is closer than it looks. This page is organised around the calendar for that reason. It sets out what the next eight weeks have to achieve, and what the term after that does. Lessons run one-to-one, live over video.

  • All eight MYP subject groups, MYP 1 to MYP 5
  • Criterion A to D marking explained against the published descriptors
  • Personal Project process coaching, never text written for a student
  • Slots held to the UAE school calendar, including Ramadan timings

IB & IGCSE in Arabian Ranches 3

Where you are in the MYP year decides what help is worth buying

The Middle Years Programme has no public exam for most students, which is why it confuses parents who have come from a British or an Indian system. There is no June paper to count down to and no grade boundary published in a newspaper. Instead there is a report cycle, four criteria per subject marked out of eight, a Personal Project in MYP 5, and a quiet accumulation of habits that either prepares a child for the Diploma Programme or does not. The absence of an exam date makes the year feel shapeless, and that is the main reason support gets bought too late.

So this page is built as a calendar. Families in Arabian Ranches 3 asking about MYP support are almost always asking in one of four situations: a first report in October that made no sense, a mid-year review in January that showed a subject sliding, an MYP 5 Personal Project that has stalled, or the February conversation about whether to move to IGCSE or stay in the programme. Each of those has a different useful answer, and the answers do not substitute for each other.

Arabian Ranches 3 sits in the Dubailand belt, surrounded by Arabian Ranches and Arabian Ranches 2, Mudon, Remraam, Town Square, Motor City, Dubai Sports City and the DAMAC Hills communities. The IB schools that serve this belt are not all inside it. Several families drive north and east towards Al Khail, Nad Al Sheba and Al Barsha for an IB place, which means the school calendar that governs your child's deadlines may belong to a campus twenty minutes away. Knowing which calendar applies matters more than knowing which community a tutor lives in.

The structural point about the MYP is that criterion marks are not percentages and do not average the way parents assume. A child can hold a 6 in criterion A and a 3 in criterion D in the same subject, and the report shows one number that hides both. A tutor's first job is usually to split that number back apart, because the work needed for a weak criterion D is almost never the work that moves criterion A. Reading the report properly is the cheapest intervention available and most families have never been shown how.

The second structural point is the Personal Project in MYP 5. It is assessed against its own criteria, moderated, and it is the student's own work from the first line to the last. A tutor can coach process: how to narrow a goal, how to keep a process journal that actually earns marks, how to write a report that references the criteria. A tutor cannot supply content, and any provider offering to is offering your child an academic-honesty problem rather than a service.

Everything below is written for a family deciding what to do this term. There is a milestone table counted backwards from the report cycle, a criterion-by-criterion breakdown for each subject group, the conversion table from criterion totals to a grade out of 7, an honest section on what eight weeks changes, and the market rates in AED with attribution. Lessons are delivered online, one-to-one, with a shared whiteboard and a recording.

At a glance

  • No home visits in Dubai; delivery is live video, timed to Gulf Standard Time
IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Four programmes bear on an MYP family in this part of Dubai: the programme itself, the primary years that feed it, and the two routes a child takes at 16. The MYP decision in February is really a decision about which of those last two is coming.

MYPAges 11-16 · MYP 1-5

IB Middle Years Programme

Eight subject groups, each assessed against four criteria marked from 1 to 8, with interdisciplinary units, Approaches to Learning skills and Service as Action running alongside. MYP 3 or 4 carries a Community Project in most schools and MYP 5 carries the Personal Project. Assessment is internal and criterion-referenced, with optional on-screen eAssessment and ePortfolios available at the end of MYP 5 for schools that register for them.

Dubai's IB schools run the MYP on a UAE academic year that starts in late August or early September and ends in June or early July, with mandatory Arabic, Islamic Education and Social or Moral Studies lessons sitting inside the same timetable. The practical effect for a family in Arabian Ranches 3 is a denser week than the programme's documentation implies, and a narrower window for catch-up work.

PYPAges 3-12 · PYP

IB Primary Years Programme

Inquiry-led, transdisciplinary, and ending with the Exhibition. Children arriving in MYP 1 from the PYP are usually strong at framing questions and weaker at the formal writing conventions the MYP criteria start to reward. That is a predictable and short-lived gap, and it is worth naming in MYP 1 rather than discovering in MYP 3 when criterion C and D marks start to matter.

Several Dubai schools run the full IB continuum on one campus, so a child may move PYP to MYP without changing building. Others do not, and a PYP child in the Dubailand belt may transfer into an MYP school further north. A transfer in the same term as a programme change is the combination most likely to produce a confusing first report.

DPAges 16-19 · DP1-DP2

IB Diploma Programme

Six subjects at Higher or Standard Level, plus Theory of Knowledge, the Extended Essay and Creativity, Activity, Service. The MYP is designed to feed it, and in the subjects where it does so well, the handover is almost invisible. Where it does not, the gap is usually mathematical fluency and the volume of independent writing, both of which can be built during MYP 4 and 5 rather than repaired in DP1.

Dubai schools sit the May DP session. The IB's own published dates should be confirmed with your child's IB coordinator or on ibo.org rather than taken from any tutoring site, including this one. What matters for an MYP family is earlier: subject choices are made in MYP 5, and a Higher Level science or Mathematics Analysis and Approaches choice assumes a level of MYP performance that is worth checking honestly.

IGCSEAges 14-16 · Years 10-11

IGCSE at 16, the other route

Many Dubai families leave the MYP at 14 or 15 for Cambridge or Pearson IGCSEs, because the British-curriculum sector in this emirate is large and the qualification is externally examined. The switch is not neutral: IGCSE rewards exam technique and timed recall, where the MYP rewards process and sustained work. A child who thrives under one does not automatically thrive under the other.

Around Arabian Ranches 3 the British-curriculum schools outnumber the IB ones, so the MYP-to-IGCSE move often comes with a school change as well as a curriculum change. That makes February of MYP 4 or MYP 5 the decision point, and it makes an honest read of criterion marks the most useful input into the decision.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

The MYP is organised into eight subject groups rather than a list of subjects, and each group has its own four criteria. Knowing which criterion is weak is more useful than knowing which subject is weak, because the remedy follows the criterion.

Language and Literature

MYP 1-5

Criteria A Analysing, B Organising, C Producing text, D Using language. Marks are lost in A when a student retells a text rather than analysing how it works, and in D when register and syntax are inconsistent. Both are teachable through annotated redrafting of the student's own essays rather than through reading more texts.

Language Acquisition

MYP 1-5, phases 1-6

Criteria A Listening, B Reading, C Speaking, D Writing, with phase bands that matter more than the year group. A child placed in phase 3 is assessed against phase 3 descriptors whatever their age. Families are often unaware of the phase, and it changes what a grade of 5 means entirely.

Individuals and Societies

MYP 1-5

Criteria A Knowing and understanding, B Investigating, C Communicating, D Thinking critically. Criterion D is where most marks go missing: students describe a source rather than evaluating its origin, purpose, value and limitation. That is a formula and it can be learned in a handful of sessions.

Sciences

MYP 1-5

Criteria A Knowing and understanding, B Inquiring and designing, C Processing and evaluating, D Reflecting on the impacts of science. Criterion B rewards a precisely worded hypothesis and controlled variables, and criterion C rewards correct processing plus a genuine evaluation of method. Both are written skills, not laboratory skills.

Mathematics

MYP 1-5, standard and extended

Criteria A Knowing and understanding, B Investigating patterns, C Communicating, D Applying mathematics in real-life contexts. Criterion B surprises families: it asks a student to find a pattern, describe it as a general rule and then justify why the rule holds. Strong calculators often score poorly on it.

Design

MYP 1-5

Criteria A Inquiring and analysing, B Developing ideas, C Creating the solution, D Evaluating. The marks live in the documentation as much as in the artefact: a specification with testable criteria, a planned sequence, and an evaluation against the original specification rather than against how the student feels it went.

Arts

MYP 1-5, visual and performing

Criteria A Investigating, B Developing, C Creating or performing, D Evaluating. The process journal carries real weight, and students who produce strong work with no recorded development lose marks they cannot recover. Support here is largely about documentation discipline.

Physical and Health Education

MYP 1-5

Criteria A Knowing and understanding, B Planning for performance, C Applying and performing, D Reflecting and improving performance. The written criteria are assessed as seriously as the practical ones, which catches out capable athletes who treat the subject as purely physical.

Interdisciplinary units

MYP 1-5

Assessed against their own criteria, usually once or twice a year, and typically the lowest marks on a report because students treat them as a side project. Understanding that an interdisciplinary unit asks for genuine synthesis between two subject groups, not two separate answers stapled together, is most of the work.

Personal Project

MYP 5

Assessed against its own criteria and externally moderated. The marks come from a clear goal, a sustained process journal, evidence of applied Approaches to Learning skills and a report that addresses each criterion. It is the student's own work throughout; a tutor's role is coaching the process and reviewing their drafts.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three patterns cover almost every MYP request from this belt, and the right one depends entirely on where the school year has got to. All are one-to-one and all run live over video, with screen sharing for drafts and a recording kept for the student.

Fixed weekly criterion slot

One hour a week on one subject group, aimed at a named criterion rather than at the subject in general. The session ends with the student's own work marked against the descriptor and a short note saying which band it currently sits in. This is the pattern for MYP 1 to MYP 4, where there is time for habits to form.

  • One subject group, one criterion focus at a time
  • The student's own assignments marked against descriptors
  • A running record of which band each criterion sits in
  • Same slot weekly, Gulf Standard Time

Personal Project process coaching

A fortnightly or weekly slot through MYP 5 covering goal setting, the process journal, Approaches to Learning evidence and report structure. The student produces everything; the tutor reviews it, asks the questions a moderator would ask, and says when a journal entry would earn nothing. The work remains entirely the student's own.

  • Goal narrowed until it is actually assessable
  • Process journal reviewed for criterion evidence
  • Report structure mapped against each criterion
  • No text supplied, drafted or dictated by the tutor

Eight-week report-cycle block

A short, dated run of sessions between one report and the next, built from the previous report's weakest criteria. It suits the family who has just read a confusing set of marks and wants a measurable answer by the following cycle rather than an open-ended arrangement.

  • Starts from the marked report, not from a general assessment
  • Two or three criteria targeted, never all eight
  • Progress judged against the next report cycle
  • Reviewed and stopped or renewed at the end

IB and IGCSE tutors available to students in Arabian Ranches 3

The tutors listed here teach across the MYP subject groups rather than to a single exam specification, because the programme is assessed against criteria rather than papers. Each works from the descriptors the school publishes, marks the student's own writing against them, and shows where a mark of 5 falls short of a 6.

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Arabian Ranches 3

01

What an IB MYP tutor is for, and what the school already does

An MYP tutor is not a second teacher. The school teaches the units, sets the summative tasks and applies the criteria, and a tutor who tries to run a parallel curriculum simply adds hours. The useful role is narrower and more specific: translating criterion marks into a plan, drilling the written skills the criteria reward, and giving a student the experience of having their own work marked honestly against a descriptor before the teacher does it for real.

That translation work is genuinely necessary because MYP reporting is opaque to anyone who has not taught it. A report that says Sciences 5 hides four separate marks out of eight. The child may be a 7 on knowing and understanding and a 3 on reflecting on the impacts of science, and the single number averages a strength and a gap into a result that looks merely adequate. Buying general science tuition for that child wastes most of the money, because three quarters of the subject is fine.

The second thing a tutor adds is pace discipline in MYP 5. The Personal Project is the first piece of sustained independent work most students have ever attempted, and it fails on scheduling far more often than on ability. A student who has set a goal by the end of the first term, kept a journal weekly rather than retrospectively, and drafted a report section by section will almost always land a better mark than a more capable student working in a panic in the final fortnight.

Delivery is online, one-to-one and live over video, with screen sharing so a draft can be annotated while the student watches. There are no home visits in Dubai; that is an India-only service. For MYP work the online format is a genuine advantage rather than a compromise, because the material being discussed is almost always a document on a screen.

02

The MYP year counted backwards from the report cycle

Nobody publishes this and every MYP parent needs it. The programme has no external exam date for most students, so the calendar that governs everything is the school's own: the report cycle, the summative task schedule and the internal Personal Project deadlines. Those dates are set by the campus and they differ between schools, which is why the table below describes windows rather than dates and tells you who to ask.

Work backwards from the report rather than forwards from today. If the next report lands in early December, a criterion that needs to move has roughly eight teaching weeks to move in, and summative tasks inside that window are the only evidence that will count. A session plan that ignores the summative schedule is working on the right criterion at the wrong time, and the mark on the report will not reflect the effort.

For MYP 5, two additional sequences run alongside. The Personal Project has internal checkpoints from the first term, and in schools that register for it the optional on-screen eAssessment and ePortfolio route adds registration and submission deadlines of its own. Both sit outside the ordinary report rhythm, and both are set by the IB and the school rather than by anything a tutoring site can confirm. Ask the IB coordinator for the current dates in writing and build the plan on those.

The last column of the table is the one worth reading twice. It names what a student should already have finished at each point, which is a more useful planning tool than a date, because it still works if the school's calendar is a fortnight different from the typical one.

Criterion letters: what A, B, C and D actually ask for

This is the gap in every competing page about IB tutoring in Dubai, and it is the most practical thing a parent can be handed. Every MYP subject group is assessed against four criteria, each marked from 1 to 8 against published descriptors, and the criteria are not interchangeable between subjects. Criterion B in Mathematics asks for pattern investigation. Criterion B in Sciences asks for experimental design. Criterion B in Language Acquisition is reading comprehension. A tutor who talks about criteria generically is not teaching to them.

The pattern across the groups is that criteria A and C tend to reward knowledge and clear communication, which schools teach well and students usually manage. Criteria B and D tend to reward investigation, evaluation and reflection, which are the skills that get squeezed when a unit runs out of time. That is why so many MYP reports show a profile with two solid marks and two weaker ones, and it is why the weaker ones are often the cheapest to fix: they are formulaic skills that nobody has yet been shown explicitly.

Use the table to read your child's last report properly. Find the subject group, find the criterion with the lowest mark, and read what that criterion actually asks for. In most cases the description makes the problem obvious: a child who writes beautifully but scores 3 on Individuals and Societies criterion D is describing sources instead of evaluating their origin, purpose, value and limitation, and that is a fortnight's work rather than a term's.

One caveat. Descriptors are revised and schools publish the current version in the subject guide or the task sheet. Treat the table as a map of what each criterion is about, then work from the exact wording your child's teacher is marking against, which the task sheet will carry.

From four marks out of eight to one grade out of seven

Here is the arithmetic that explains most confused conversations at parents' evening. Four criteria, each marked from 1 to 8, give a maximum total of 32. That total is then converted to a grade from 1 to 7 using boundary bands published in the MYP documentation. It is not a percentage and it is not an average, and the bands are not evenly spaced, which has consequences a parent can use.

The consequence is that marks are worth different amounts depending on where a student sits. Moving a total from 18 to 19 crosses a boundary and changes the reported grade. Moving from 19 to 22 does not change the grade at all. A child on 18 who gains a single mark on one criterion gets a visibly better report; a child on 20 who gains two marks gets the same number as before and looks static to everyone who only reads the grade. That is not a flaw in the system but it is the reason to look at criterion marks rather than grades when judging whether support is working.

It also tells you where to aim. If your child is on a total of 17 with a weak criterion D, the highest-yield work is a two-mark improvement on criterion D, not a one-mark improvement spread across three. Tutors who ask to see the criterion breakdown before planning are doing this calculation; tutors who ask only for the grade cannot.

The bands below are the general conversion published in the MYP subject guides. Schools apply them, and some schools report with additional internal detail. Confirm the current version with your child's coordinator before planning around a single boundary, and treat any figure on a tutoring site, including this one, as something to check rather than something to rely on.

MYP CRITERION TOTAL TO FINAL GRADE - GENERAL BOUNDARY BANDS
Criterion total out of 32Reported gradeWidth of the bandWhat it means for planning
1 to 515 marksOne criterion is likely at or near the bottom band; start there
6 to 924 marksA single criterion moving two marks can cross the boundary
10 to 1435 marksWide band; expect visible effort to show no grade change
15 to 1844 marksOne mark at the top of this band changes the reported grade
19 to 2355 marksThe band where most students plateau on the report despite progress
24 to 2764 marksTarget the weakest criterion; the others are already strong
28 to 3275 marksRequires consistency across all four criteria, not one outstanding one
05

The Personal Project, and the line a tutor must not cross

The Personal Project is assessed against its own criteria and moderated by the IB, and it is the single most common reason a Dubai family looks for an MYP tutor in MYP 5. It is also the place where the academic-honesty line sits closest to the service being bought, so it is worth stating exactly where that line is before describing any help at all.

A tutor may ask the questions a moderator would ask. Is the goal specific enough to be assessed, or is it an ambition rather than a project? Does the process journal show decisions being made and revised, or is it a diary written in one sitting at the end? Which Approaches to Learning skills does the student actually have evidence for? Does the report address each criterion explicitly, or does it describe the product and hope? Those questions are coaching, and they are the most valuable hour a tutor can give an MYP 5 student.

A tutor may not supply text, dictate sentences, restructure a draft into their own prose, or contribute any part of the product itself. The project must be the student's own work from the first entry in the journal to the final submission. Any provider offering otherwise is offering an academic-honesty breach, and the consequence falls on your child rather than on the provider. If something sounds unusually convenient, that is what it is.

In practice the useful rhythm is fortnightly. Sessions come after the student has produced something, not before: a journal entry, a draft section, a revised goal statement. The tutor reads what exists, marks it against the criteria, and names the next piece. A student who keeps that rhythm from the first term of MYP 5 rarely needs the emergency sessions in the final fortnight, which is the version of this work nobody enjoys and nobody does well.

06

What eight weeks of MYP support can and cannot change

  • Criterion procedures: two marks in four to five sessions is realistic
  • Content gaps: one unit per eight weeks, not three
  • Fluency and stamina: a year's work, best started early in the programme
  • The reported grade may not move even when the criterion total does

Families ask for a timeline and deserve a straight one. Eight weeks is roughly the gap between report cycles in a Dubai school, which makes it the natural unit for judging whether support is working. Within eight weeks some things move reliably, some move partly, and some do not move at all, and knowing which is which prevents both disappointment and wasted terms.

What moves reliably: criterion-specific written formulas. Source evaluation in Individuals and Societies. Hypothesis wording and variable control in Sciences criterion B. Communicating mathematics with correct notation and a justified general rule. Report structure for Design criterion D. These are procedures, they can be taught explicitly, and a student who has never been shown the procedure usually gains two marks within four or five sessions of focused practice on their own work.

What moves partly: subject knowledge gaps. A student who missed a unit, or who changed schools mid-year, has real content to rebuild, and eight weeks covers one unit properly rather than three. What moves slowly: reading stamina, mathematical fluency and the habit of independent work. Those are built over a year, they are the right thing to work on in MYP 2 and MYP 3, and they are the wrong thing to start in the term before a decision has to be made.

What does not move on command is the grade on the report, for the boundary-band reason set out above. A child whose criterion total goes from 20 to 23 has made genuine progress and will show the same 5 as before. Judge the work by the criterion marks and the quality of the student's drafts, agree in advance what success looks like, and review at the report cycle rather than week by week. Nobody can promise a grade, and the structure of MYP reporting makes that promise even emptier than usual.

07

Ramadan, the UAE calendar and when the work actually happens

A Dubai school year has a shape that MYP planning documents do not describe, and families new to the Emirates consistently miscount the available weeks. Term dates fall in late August or early September and run to late June or early July. There are breaks in the autumn and at the winter holidays. And there is Ramadan, during which school days are shortened across the emirate and the rhythm of the household changes completely for a month.

The practical consequence for MYP support is that the weeks between the mid-year report and the final one are fewer than they look. If Ramadan falls inside that window, a family that had planned twelve sessions will realistically get eight or nine, and the ones during the month work far better in the evening after Iftar than in the shortened afternoon. Saying this in advance and building the plan around it is better than discovering it in week three and losing momentum.

The same calendar awareness applies to the Personal Project. An internal submission deadline in Term 2 that sits a fortnight after a shortened-hours month is a deadline that needs the journal substantially finished before the month starts. Students who plan around that comfortably outperform equally capable students who do not, and this is one of the few pieces of advice in MYP support that costs nothing to follow.

Scheduling here is deliberately flexible for that reason. Slots move to post-Iftar timings during Ramadan, pause for school study leave and the long summer break, and resume on a fixed weekday evening in Gulf Standard Time once term restarts. For a family in Arabian Ranches 3 juggling a long school run and a club calendar, that predictability is usually worth more than any particular hour of the day.

08

What MYP support costs in Dubai, and who publishes what

  • Budget online, non-specialist: roughly AED 45-150 per hour (EdFlik, Tutopiya)
  • Qualified subject tutor online: AED 150-300 (Unitors publishes IB from AED 200)
  • In-home visit with travel: AED 180-500 (Bestimate Dubai rate table and home-tutor listings)
  • IB specialist: AED 200-450+ (TutorChase publishes AED 270)

Market rates first, with attribution, because most pages competing for this search publish no figure at all and two of the ones that do quote in US dollars. As of October 2026, published Dubai rates put budget online tuition at roughly AED 45 to 150 an hour, with EdFlik advertising from AED 45 to 65 and Tutopiya from around AED 33 to 52. A qualified subject tutor working online sits in the AED 150 to 300 band, with Unitors publishing IB from AED 200. An in-home one-to-one visit runs AED 180 to 500 with travel included, on Bestimate's Dubai rate table and independent home-tutor advertising. Specialist IB tuition sits at AED 200 to 450 and above, with TutorChase publishing AED 270.

Those are market bands, not an IB Gram price list, and they are the market for one hour of teaching. MYP support is usually bought in a different shape from exam-year tuition: a fortnightly Personal Project slot across two terms, or an eight-week criterion block, rather than a weekly hour for a year. Comparing a monthly package price against an hourly rate without adjusting for that is how families end up surprised, and monthly packages advertised in this market have been seen at around AED 799 for eight online sessions.

For context on where tutoring sits in a Dubai family's education spending, KHDA confirmed in May 2026 that private school fees in the emirate would not rise for the 2026-27 academic year, under an economic incentives package valued at AED 1.5 billion. The fee line is flat; the discretionary line is not. A sensible MYP plan is explicit about how many sessions it is buying and what the review point is, rather than open-ended.

Our own route is the introductory lesson and a conversation. Quoting a figure before anyone has read the criterion breakdown on your child's report would be a number invented to fill a form, and the thing this market is short of is not prices but honest ones with their sources attached.

09

Permits, regulators and the questions worth asking a tutor

KHDA is the Knowledge and Human Development Authority and it is responsible for enhancing and overseeing the quality of private education in Dubai. It inspects schools annually on a six-band scale from Outstanding down to Very Weak, and the published report for your child's IB school is free, specific and usually honest about the middle years. If you are weighing an MYP campus against a British-curriculum one in the Dubailand belt, those two reports are a better input than any prospectus.

Private tutoring itself is regulated separately and federally. The MoHRE private tuition work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, it is granted free of charge for two years, and eligible applicants include teachers registered in government or private schools, government and private-sector employees, unemployed individuals, university students and school students aged 15 to 18. MoHRE's own service page lists no fee and a two-working-day completion time, with applications made through its smart app, website and e-services system.

Two things follow. Individuals offering private tutoring without a permit are subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws, and since no fine schedule has been published, any specific amount quoted to you is unverified. And no tutor or platform, including this one, can describe itself as approved by KHDA, ADEK, SPEA, the Ministry of Education, the IB or any examination board on the strength of a tutoring permit. The permit is a permit. KHDA's Educational Services Permit is a separate thing, issued to training institutes that hold premises.

The questions worth asking, then, are concrete. Does the tutor hold the MoHRE permit and under which eligibility category? Which MYP subject groups have they taught, and to which year groups? Can they describe what criterion D asks for in the subject you care about, without looking it up? And will they mark your child's own work in front of them? A tutor who answers all four clearly is a better bet than one with a longer list of adjectives.

Arabian Ranches 2

More families with children at both ends of the programme at once. A common arrangement here is one weekly slot for an MYP 5 Personal Project and a shorter fortnightly slot for a younger sibling's maths criterion B.

Arabian Ranches

The established centre of the cluster, with the longest-standing school relationships. Parents here are often the ones who already know how the report cycle works, and the request tends to be subject-specific rather than a general decoding of criterion marks.

Mudon

South along the Al Qudra corridor, and a community where the IB school run is genuinely long. The strongest argument for online MYP support in Mudon is that the family car is already committed twice a day.

Town Square

A commute shaped towards Al Barsha and Dubai Hills, where several of the IB schools used by this belt actually sit. MYP deadlines here belong to a campus a district away, so the household calendar and the school calendar diverge.

Motor City

Short school runs and a dense club schedule. Mid-week late afternoon slots are workable, but MYP 5 Personal Project sessions tend to land on the weekend because they need an uninterrupted hour rather than a convenient one.

Dubai Sports City

Training timetables dominate weekday evenings, and students here frequently use Physical and Health Education as a strength. The criterion B and D written components are the part that still needs attention, and it is the part most often ignored.

DAMAC Hills

Longer journeys to every IB campus in the belt. Families here are the clearest case for a fixed online slot, since an in-person arrangement would spend its first twenty minutes on the Umm Suqeim Road.

Remraam

The furthest south of the group and the least served locally, which makes schedule reliability the deciding factor rather than tutor location. A slot that never gets cancelled is worth more than one that is theoretically closer.

Dubai Hills Estate

North-east of the belt and the destination for a share of secondary-age children from Arabian Ranches 3. Worth listing because the MYP calendar a family follows is set by the campus, not the community.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in Arabian Ranches 3

IB schools used by Dubailand families

The MYP is taught in a smaller set of Dubai schools than the British curriculum is, and few of them sit inside the Arabian Ranches communities. These are the campuses families from this belt most often travel to, which is why MYP deadlines here frequently belong to a different district from the home address.

  • Fairgreen International School
  • GEMS International School, Al Khail
  • Nord Anglia International School Dubai
  • GEMS Modern Academy
  • Dubai International Academy, Al Barsha
  • Swiss International Scientific School Dubai

Schools in the belt that run the British route instead

These are the schools that make the February decision a live one. A family in Arabian Ranches 3 weighing MYP 5 against a move to IGCSE is usually weighing a specific local British-curriculum place against a longer drive to an IB campus, and the academic question and the logistical question arrive together.

  • Jumeirah English Speaking School (JESS) Arabian Ranches
  • Ranches Primary School
  • GEMS FirstPoint School
  • GEMS Metropole School, Motor City
  • Victory Heights Primary School
  • Dubai British School Mira

School names appear as context for the local education market only; IB Gram claims no affiliation with, endorsement from or relationship to any school named.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Send the report with the criterion marks

Not the summary grade, the breakdown. Four marks out of eight per subject group is the information that decides what to work on, and most schools publish it in the full report or on the learning platform. If you only have the grade, ask the tutor for help reading the detailed version rather than starting without it.

  2. 02

    Name the next deadline

The next summative task, the next report date, or the Personal Project checkpoint. MYP support that is not anchored to a dated piece of assessed work tends to drift, because there is no external exam to pull it forward. One date on the first email changes the shape of the whole plan.

  3. 03

    Agree which two criteria

Never all four, and never all eight subject groups. Two criteria in one or two subject groups is the amount of change an eight-week block can carry, and choosing them deliberately is the difference between measurable progress and a general feeling that things are a bit better.

  4. 04

    Take the introductory lesson

One session with the matched tutor before committing. The test afterwards is simple: did the tutor mark something your child had written, and could they explain why it sat in one band rather than the next. A session that only discussed the subject in general has not demonstrated anything.

  5. 05

Review at the report, not weekly

Compare criterion marks across the two cycles either side of the block. If the targeted criteria have moved and the others are stable, the plan worked even where the reported grade did not change. If nothing has moved, change the plan or the tutor; both are normal.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

Criterion-first, not subject-first

Support is planned from the four marks on the report rather than from a subject name, because the work that moves criterion B is not the work that moves criterion D. It is a narrower promise than general tuition and a considerably more useful one for a programme assessed this way.

The student's own work gets marked

Every session works on something your child produced: a draft, a lab write-up, a journal entry, a set of solutions. Marking their own text against the descriptor is what teaches the descriptor. Generic worksheets teach the subject and leave the assessment untouched.

A hard line on the Personal Project

Process coaching, questioning and review of the student's own drafts. No text supplied, no sections drafted, no product contributed. The project is moderated by the IB and the consequence of a breach lands on the student, which is reason enough to be explicit about it.

Scheduling built on the UAE calendar

Slots account for the Dubai term shape, shortened school hours during Ramadan, study leave and the long summer. Sessions move to post-Iftar timings when that works better, and the plan counts the weeks that actually exist rather than the ones on a generic planner.

Rates quoted as the market, with sources

Every AED figure here is attributed to the provider or rate table that published it, with the date. There is no invented price list, no dollar pricing for a family that pays in dirhams, and no claim about value that a parent cannot check.

Coverage limits stated up front

Some MYP subject groups have thinner UAE-based specialist cover than others, Design and Arts in particular. If your slot cannot be filled locally you are told, and offered either a different time or a tutor teaching into Gulf Standard Time from elsewhere, disclosed before booking.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Arabian Ranches 3: your questions answered

What does a 5 in MYP Sciences actually mean when the criteria are marked out of 8?+

It means a criterion total somewhere between 19 and 23 out of 32, converted using the published boundary bands. The grade hides four separate marks: knowing and understanding, inquiring and designing, processing and evaluating, and reflecting on the impacts of science. A child can be a 7 on the first and a 3 on the last and still report a 5. Ask the school for the criterion breakdown rather than the grade, because the remedy for a weak criterion B is experimental design practice and the remedy for a weak criterion D is structured reflection writing. They are different work.

Is MYP eAssessment compulsory for a child finishing MYP 5 in Dubai?+

No. The on-screen examinations and ePortfolios at the end of MYP 5 are an optional route that individual schools choose to register for, and many Dubai schools do not. Whether your child sits them, and in which subjects, is a question for the school's IB coordinator rather than for a tutoring provider, and the registration and submission deadlines come from the IB and the school. Ask for the current dates in writing. If the school does not offer the route, the MYP concludes on internal criterion-based assessment and the Personal Project, which is entirely normal.

Can a tutor help with the Personal Project without breaching academic honesty?+

Yes, within a clear boundary. A tutor can ask whether the goal is specific enough to be assessed, whether the process journal shows decisions being made rather than a diary written at the end, which Approaches to Learning skills have evidence behind them, and whether the report addresses each criterion explicitly. That is coaching and it is genuinely valuable. What a tutor must not do is supply text, dictate sentences, rewrite a draft in their own prose or contribute to the product. The project is moderated by the IB and the consequence of a breach falls on the student.

My child moved from a British school into MYP 3 — what is the gap we should expect?+

Rarely content, usually assessment grammar. A student arriving from Year 8 or Year 9 in a British school has met topics in a different order and has been marked on percentages and levels rather than on four criteria out of eight. The specific gaps that show up are criterion B and D skills: designing an investigation, evaluating sources, justifying a general rule, reflecting against a specification. None is hard but none has been taught, so the first reports look worse than the child's actual ability. Four to six sessions on criterion procedures usually closes most of it.

How are four MYP criterion marks turned into one grade out of 7?+

They are added, not averaged. Four criteria marked 1 to 8 give a total out of 32, and that total converts to a grade from 1 to 7 using published boundary bands: roughly 1 to 5 for a grade 1, 6 to 9 for a 2, 10 to 14 for a 3, 15 to 18 for a 4, 19 to 23 for a 5, 24 to 27 for a 6 and 28 to 32 for a 7. The bands are uneven, so a single mark can change the grade at one point and three marks can change nothing at another. Confirm the current bands with your child's coordinator.

What are ATL skills and can they actually be taught in a tutoring session?+

Approaches to Learning skills are the thinking, research, communication, social and self-management skills the MYP teaches alongside subject content, and they carry real weight in the Personal Project where a student has to evidence them. They can be taught, but only through subject work rather than in the abstract. A session that builds a research plan for an actual Individuals and Societies investigation teaches research skills; a session that discusses research skills teaches nothing. Ask any tutor to demonstrate the skill inside a task your child is genuinely doing this fortnight.

Should my child leave for IGCSE at 14 or stay in the MYP through to MYP 5?+

It depends on how your child is actually assessed well, and the criterion marks are the honest evidence. Students who score strongly on criteria that reward sustained process and investigation usually do better staying in the programme and moving to the Diploma. Students whose strength is timed recall and whose process marks lag often do better on externally examined IGCSEs. Around Arabian Ranches 3 the decision usually comes with a school change as well, because the British-curriculum schools outnumber the IB ones in this belt, so the logistics and the academics arrive together.

How long does it take to move an MYP criterion mark from a 4 to a 6?+

For procedural criteria, four to five focused sessions on the student's own work is a realistic expectation, because the gain comes from learning an explicit formula nobody has shown them: how a source evaluation is structured, how a hypothesis is worded, how a general rule is justified. For criteria that depend on underlying content or writing fluency, plan a term rather than a half-term. And remember that a two-mark gain inside a wide boundary band may not change the reported grade at all, which is a reason to judge progress on criterion marks rather than on the report headline.

Does Ramadan change when MYP tutoring should happen in Dubai?+

Yes, substantially. School days are shortened across the emirate for the month, household routines change, and an afternoon session that worked in February stops working. Sessions during the month generally work far better in the evening after Iftar. The planning consequence matters more than the timing one: if Ramadan falls between the mid-year and final report cycles, a family expecting twelve sessions will realistically get eight or nine, and any Personal Project journal work should be substantially finished before the month begins rather than after it.

What does MYP Mathematics criterion B, investigating patterns, actually ask for?+

It asks a student to find a pattern in given or generated data, describe it as a general rule in correct notation, test the rule on further cases and then justify why it holds. That final step is where marks go missing. Strong calculators often score poorly here because they produce the right answer without articulating the rule or defending it, and the descriptor rewards the articulation. It is a learnable procedure: generate, tabulate, conjecture, verify, justify. Four or five pattern investigations marked against the descriptor usually move the mark.

Is the MYP good preparation for the IB Diploma or does it leave gaps?+

It prepares students well for the parts of the Diploma that reward independent work, research and sustained writing, which is most of the internal assessment and all of the Extended Essay. The gaps that appear most often are mathematical fluency and the volume of timed written work, because the MYP assesses process more than speed. Both can be built during MYP 4 and MYP 5 rather than repaired in DP1, and a child aiming at a Higher Level science or Mathematics Analysis and Approaches should be building them deliberately from the February of MYP 5 onwards.

What does MYP tuition cost in Dubai, in dirhams?+

Published Dubai market rates as of October 2026 run roughly AED 45 to 150 an hour for budget online tuition, AED 150 to 300 for a qualified subject tutor online, AED 180 to 500 for an in-home visit including travel, and AED 200 to 450 and above for an IB specialist. Those bands come from EdFlik, Tutopiya, Unitors, TutorChase and Bestimate's Dubai rate table, and they are the market rather than our price list. MYP work is often bought as a fortnightly Personal Project slot or an eight-week criterion block rather than a weekly hour across a year.

My child's MYP report shows a different grade for the same subject each term — why?+

Because different units assess different criteria. A term whose summative tasks happened to weight criterion A and C can produce a higher grade than a term weighted towards B and D, with no change in the child's ability at all. That is why direction matters more than level in MYP reporting, and why comparing two cycles criterion by criterion is the only sensible reading. Ask which criteria each cycle actually assessed; schools will tell you, and the answer usually explains a swing that looked alarming on the summary page.

Does the Community Project in MYP 3 or MYP 4 need tutoring support?+

Usually not in the way the Personal Project does. The Community Project is shorter, often done in pairs or groups, and schools scaffold it heavily. Where support helps is the same place it helps later: keeping a process journal that records decisions as they are made, and writing a report that addresses the criteria rather than narrating the activity. A single session early on, teaching a student what a useful journal entry looks like, tends to be worth more than several sessions near the deadline.

Which IB schools do families in Arabian Ranches 3 typically use for the MYP?+

Few of the MYP campuses sit inside the Arabian Ranches communities, so families travel. The schools used most often from this belt include Fairgreen International School, GEMS International School Al Khail, Nord Anglia International School Dubai, GEMS Modern Academy, Dubai International Academy Al Barsha and Swiss International Scientific School Dubai. Those names are listed as market context only and imply no relationship with us. The practical point is that your child's MYP calendar is set by a campus that may be twenty minutes away, so the deadlines that matter are the school's, not the community's.

Can MYP support really work online for a family in Arabian Ranches 3?+

For this programme it suits the work particularly well, because almost everything being discussed is a document on a screen: a draft, a journal entry, a lab write-up, a set of annotated solutions. Sessions run one-to-one and live over video with screen sharing and a recording. There are no home visits in Dubai, and that service exists only in India. The real gain is selection: an online slot can be filled by a tutor who has taught the specific subject group, where a visit can only be filled by someone willing to drive out to the Dubailand belt at five in the afternoon.

Start from the report and the next deadline

Two pieces of information make an MYP conversation productive: the criterion breakdown from your child's most recent report, and the date of the next summative task, report cycle or Personal Project checkpoint. With those, a tutor can name which two criteria are worth eight weeks of work, say honestly whether the reported grade is likely to move inside that window, and show you what the descriptor actually asks for. The introductory lesson is one session with the matched tutor, and the question afterwards is whether they marked your child's own writing. Sessions run live over video, timed to Gulf Standard Time, for Arabian Ranches 3 and the communities around it.
