IB Chemistry Tutor in Arabian Ranches 3

An IB chemistry tutor in Arabian Ranches 3 is almost never hired in September. The search usually happens in the middle of a term that is already running, which is why this page is built around the calendar instead of around us. Lessons are one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time, so a session can start forty minutes after the Dubailand bus reaches the villa. What follows is the DP Chemistry year counted backwards, the component weightings, the four investigation criteria and what the Dubai market charges per hour in dirhams.

  • One-to-one over live video, scheduled on Gulf Standard Time
  • Chemistry specialists matched to HL or SL, never generalists
  • Feedback on the student's own data, not written work handed over
  • A free trial lesson first, with no card details taken

IB & IGCSE in Arabian Ranches 3

Chemistry is a timing problem before it is a content problem

Most families in Arabian Ranches 3 start looking for chemistry help after a specific event. A DP1 report comes home with a 4 where there used to be a 7 at MYP. A mock paper comes back with every structure drawn correctly and almost no marks for the explanation. A supervisor writes one line on an investigation proposal: not enough independent variable range. Whatever the trigger, it arrives mid-term, with a fixed number of weeks left before something is due. The question is never whether chemistry can be learned. It is what can be moved in the weeks that remain.

That is a scheduling question, so this page answers it as one. The DP Chemistry course is two years long, but the marks are decided in a small number of concentrated windows: the investigation draft deadline the school sets, the mock window in the winter term of DP2, the point at which predicted grades are written, and the examination session itself. Each of those has a different best use of tutoring time. Eight weeks before a mock, past-paper discipline outranks new content. Eight weeks before an investigation deadline, the opposite is true, because a weak research design cannot be rescued by revision later.

The content itself is not vast. Under the Chemistry guide for first examinations in 2025 the syllabus sits in two halves, Structure and Reactivity, each with three units. Structure covers the particulate model, bonding and the classification of matter. Reactivity covers what drives a reaction, how much and how fast and how far it goes, and the mechanisms by which it happens. Higher Level adds depth to every one of those rather than adding a seventh topic, which is why an HL student who is shaky on a Standard Level idea does not simply lose HL marks. They lose the same mark twice.

The place matters less than parents expect, and more than the brochures admit. Arabian Ranches 3 has no Diploma school inside it, so children are bussed out to campuses in Arabian Ranches, the Sustainable City, Motor City, Nad Al Sheba or Al Barsha South. A tutor hired on the basis of living in the next community over is a tutor chosen by postcode, and a postcode has never once correlated with knowing why a student keeps losing the sign on an enthalpy change. Chemistry specialism is thin on the ground anywhere in Dubai. Choosing from one villa cluster makes it thinner.

So the rest of this page is a plan rather than a pitch. There is a calendar table you can count backwards on, a unit-by-unit view of where time actually goes, the component weightings written out, the investigation criteria with their mark allocations, the dirham rates the Dubai market charges with their sources, and a plain statement of how lessons are delivered. If the eight weeks you have left are the wrong eight weeks for what you want to achieve, this page should tell you that before you book anything.

IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Chemistry support starts well before the Diploma. The three stages below are the ones that actually feed into a DP Chemistry grade, plus the core components that sit alongside the subject and compete with it for a student's evenings.

MYP 4-5Ages 14-16 · MYP 4 and MYP 5

Middle Years Programme Sciences

MYP Sciences is marked against four criteria out of 8 each, and chemistry appears inside an integrated course rather than as a separate subject. The habits that decide a DP Chemistry grade are built here: writing a method somebody else could repeat, handling uncertainty in a measurement, and explaining a result rather than restating it. A student who reaches DP1 able to describe a trend but not account for it is usually carrying an MYP criterion C and D gap rather than a chemistry gap.

Families in Arabian Ranches 3 whose children are in the MYP are typically at Fairgreen International School in the Sustainable City or at an IB continuum campus further in towards Al Barsha. The commute out of the community is long enough that MYP science support is almost always better placed on a weekend morning than on a weekday evening, which is a scheduling fact rather than a preference.

IB Chemistry SL

IB Chemistry SL carries the same six syllabus units as Higher Level at a reduced depth, with Paper 1 at 1 hour 30 minutes and Paper 2 at 1 hour 30 minutes under the current guide. Standard Level students are frequently the ones taking chemistry because a university course asks for it rather than because they chose it, which changes the tutoring. The work is less about extension and more about securing the predictable marks: definitions, equations balanced with state symbols, and data-booklet use under time pressure.

A large share of SL chemistry students around the Dubailand villa belt are aiming at health science, pharmacy or engineering foundation routes at UAE and UK universities. Those entry requirements are published by the individual university and change between intakes, so the sensible move is to read the current page for the specific programme rather than rely on what an older sibling needed three years ago.

DP HLAges 16-19 · DP1 and DP2

IB Chemistry HL

IB Chemistry HL extends every unit rather than adding a new one: more quantitative treatment in Reactivity 2, more mechanism detail in Reactivity 3, and a broader range of bonding and structure ideas in Structure 2. Paper 1 runs to 2 hours and Paper 2 to 2 hours 30 minutes under the current guide, so stamina is a real component. The commonest HL profile we see is a student who understands the chemistry and cannot write it: correct reasoning, missing command-term response, marks lost in the gap.

HL Chemistry is the subject Dubailand families most often ask for and the one with the thinnest local tutor supply, which is why hiring by distance from Arabian Ranches 3 goes wrong so often. Online delivery widens the pool to specialists outside the emirate, and we will say plainly when a particular HL slot cannot be covered in your preferred evening window rather than filling it with a generalist.

The scientific investigation, Extended Essay and TOK

The investigation is 20% of the Chemistry grade and is marked out of 24 across four criteria: research design, data analysis, conclusion and evaluation, six marks each. A chemistry Extended Essay is a separate 4,000-word piece assessed against the Diploma core criteria, and Theory of Knowledge runs alongside both. Together they take DP2 evenings that a student assumed were revision time. Planning that collision is a legitimate use of tutoring; outsourcing any part of the writing is not, and we decline it.

School-set internal deadlines for the investigation and the Extended Essay differ between the campuses Arabian Ranches 3 children attend, sometimes by six weeks. The only reliable version is the one on your child's own school calendar, confirmed with the Diploma coordinator. Every plan we build starts from that document rather than from a generic IB timeline, because the generic timeline is what causes the February panic.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

Chemistry rarely travels alone. The subjects below are the ones that share a timetable, a maths requirement or an investigation deadline with DP Chemistry, and the ones families in this part of Dubai most often add once the first subject is stable.

Chemistry

HL and SL

Six units across Structure and Reactivity, assessed by Paper 1 at 36%, Paper 2 at 44% and the investigation at 20%. Marks are lost most reliably in energetics sign conventions, equilibrium reasoning and the mechanism questions in Reactivity 3, where a student draws the right arrows and then describes the wrong step.

Biology

HL and SL

Shares the same four investigation criteria and the same 20% weighting as Chemistry, which makes a double science load in DP2 a scheduling problem as much as a content one. The commonest biology mark loss is in data-based questions that reward precise reading of a graph rather than recall.

Physics

HL and SL

Built on five themes from space, time and motion through to nuclear and quantum physics, with the same paper structure as Chemistry. Students taking Chemistry HL and Physics HL together usually need help with algebraic rearrangement before they need help with either subject's content.

Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches

HL and SL

The route most often paired with Chemistry HL. Analysis and Approaches rewards algebraic fluency, and a chemistry student who cannot manipulate logarithms will lose marks in pH and in rate equations that have nothing to do with chemistry understanding.

Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation

HL and SL

Statistics-led and calculator-heavy, and a legitimate pairing with Chemistry SL. It is a weaker fit with Chemistry HL for students targeting engineering, because some published entry requirements name Analysis and Approaches specifically. Check the individual university page rather than assuming.

Environmental Systems and Societies

HL and SL

Available as a Group 3 or Group 4 choice and often taken alongside Chemistry by students who want a second science without a second quantitative load. The assessment rewards systems diagrams and evaluation of competing viewpoints, which is a different skill from chemistry explanation.

Sports, Exercise and Health Science

HL and SL

A Group 4 option with real biochemistry content in it, which makes it a common second science for Chemistry students heading towards physiotherapy or sports medicine. The investigation criteria are identical to Chemistry's, so the two deadlines land in the same weeks.

Design Technology

HL and SL

Materials science overlaps directly with Structure 3 classification of matter, so Chemistry students often find the content familiar and the assessment unfamiliar. The design cycle documentation is where marks are won, and it is the part students treat as administration.

Theory of Knowledge

Core

Assessed by an exhibition and an essay on a prescribed title, and worth points in combination with the Extended Essay. Chemistry students usually find the exhibition easier than the essay, because the essay asks them to argue rather than to explain, and the two are marked quite differently.

Extended Essay in Chemistry

Core

A 4,000-word independent research piece with a chemistry research question, supervised in school. Support means teaching research question framing, experimental feasibility and referencing discipline. It does not mean editing a draft to completion, and no tutor should write the Extended Essay or any part of it.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three ways DP Chemistry support is usually structured, chosen by how many weeks are left rather than by preference. All three run one-to-one over live video, with the student's own paper or data on screen.

Weekly one-to-one across the term

A fixed sixty or ninety-minute slot each week, running with the school's scheme of work rather than ahead of it. This is the structure that actually moves a grade band, because it gives enough contact to diagnose a pattern and enough gap between sessions for the student to practise independently. A ninety-minute slot suits HL students in DP2; sixty minutes is usually better for SL and for anyone in DP1.

  • One subject, one level, one tutor for the term
  • Written feedback after each session naming the next task
  • Paced to the school's own unit order, not a generic sequence
  • Fortnightly review of whether the plan is still the right plan

The eight-week run-up to a mock or a session

A compressed block built backwards from one date. Weeks one and two are diagnostic: two full papers under timing, marked against the published mark scheme rather than impressions. Weeks three to six attack the specific units that cost marks, in order of marks lost. The last two weeks are entirely timed practice and command-term discipline. Content teaching stops in week six, which is the part students resist and the part that works.

  • Starts from a full timed paper, not from a chapter
  • Prioritised by marks lost, not by syllabus order
  • New content stops two weeks out by design
  • A written week-by-week plan you can hold us to

Investigation clinic sessions

Short, bounded sessions on the scientific investigation at the three points where it goes wrong: choosing a research question that can actually generate a range of data, handling uncertainty and processing properly, and writing an evaluation that identifies real limitations rather than listing human error. The student brings their own proposal, their own readings and their own draft. The tutor asks questions and marks against the criteria; nothing is written for them.

  • Research question feasibility checked before any data is collected
  • Uncertainty and error propagation taught on the student's own readings
  • Criterion-by-criterion feedback using the published descriptors
  • No drafting, no editing to completion, no text supplied

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Arabian Ranches 3

01

What eight weeks of IB Chemistry can and cannot change

Eight weeks of weekly one-to-one chemistry, used well, reliably changes three things: command-term accuracy, data-booklet speed, and the proportion of a paper a student attempts. Those three between them are usually worth a grade band at Standard Level and can be worth more at Higher Level, because HL papers punish slow working harder. What eight weeks does not do is rebuild a two-year foundation. If a DP2 student cannot balance a redox half-equation, eight weeks spent on exam technique will buy a smaller improvement than eight weeks spent on Reactivity 1, and the honest version of that conversation belongs in the first session rather than the sixth.

The diagnostic matters more than the teaching in week one. A student who scores 40% on a Paper 2 has not failed uniformly. They have usually failed in a shape: full marks on anything numerical, nothing on anything that asks them to explain; or correct explanations written for questions that asked them to deduce. Those two profiles need opposite interventions. Marking a full past paper against the published mark scheme, question by question, is the only way to see which one you have. Impressions from a school report will not show it, because a report grade is an average and the average hides the shape.

The second thing eight weeks exposes is how much of the loss is chemistry at all. A significant share of DP Chemistry marks go missing to arithmetic, to unit conversion, to significant figures and to reading the question. None of that is chemistry and all of it is fixable quickly, which is why a proper diagnostic often produces a better first-month result than a content plan would. It also tells you something about the longer run: a student losing marks to process will keep losing them in Physics and in Mathematics until the process is fixed, so the chemistry work pays for itself twice.

Where the eight weeks sits in the year decides the whole plan. Eight weeks before the winter mock in DP2, the work is paper discipline. Eight weeks before a school investigation deadline, the work is research design and the mock will have to wait. Eight weeks before the May session, nothing new gets taught. Parents who book without naming the date they are working towards generally get a sensible plan for the wrong eight weeks, and that is the single most common waste of money in this market.

02

The DP Chemistry year, counted backwards

No competitor page in this market publishes a calendar, and the absence is strange, because the calendar is the thing parents are actually trying to reconstruct when they search. The table below counts backwards from the May examination session that UAE Diploma schools sit, in relative terms rather than fixed dates. That choice is deliberate and worth explaining: specific IB examination and results dates for a given session are set by the IB and published through schools, and we will not print a date on 2,654 pages that we have not read on ibo.org ourselves. Your child's Diploma coordinator holds the authoritative version.

Read the table from the bottom up, because that is the direction the year actually runs in. The dates that bite are not the examination dates. They are the internal school deadlines for the investigation and the Extended Essay, which sit a long way earlier, are set by the campus rather than by the IB, and differ by several weeks between the schools Arabian Ranches 3 children attend. A family planning around the examination window alone will discover the investigation deadline about three weeks before it lands, which is the standard February emergency in this community.

The second thing the table shows is where predicted grades come from. Predicted grades are written by teachers, usually off the back of the winter mock, and they go to universities long before the real result exists. A student who is going to be tutored at all is better tutored before the mock than after it, because the mock is the evidence the prediction is built on. Families who start in March have missed that lever entirely. It is still worth starting in March; it is simply worth knowing what has already been decided.

Cambridge and Pearson dates, for families with an IGCSE sibling in the same house, are published and can be planned against directly. Cambridge runs a June series and a November series, with Primary and Lower Secondary Checkpoint tests in March, May and October, and allocates every examination centre to one of six administrative zones. Cambridge states that it is essential to use the correct version of the timetable for your zone and that it cannot accept responsibility for candidates who miss an examination after using the wrong one. Pearson Edexcel International GCSE exams are available in May/June and November each year.

Structure and Reactivity: the six units as a tutor reads them

The current Chemistry guide, for first examinations in 2025, organises the subject into Structure and Reactivity with three units each. Structure 1 is the particulate nature of matter, Structure 2 is bonding and structure, Structure 3 is classification of matter. Reactivity 1 asks what drives a chemical reaction, Reactivity 2 asks how much, how fast and how far, Reactivity 3 asks what the mechanisms of chemical change are. Higher Level extends each of the six rather than adding a seventh, which is the single most useful fact a parent can hold about the course.

That structure has a direct tutoring consequence. Because HL is depth rather than breadth, a Higher Level student with a Standard Level weakness pays for it twice: once in the SL-level question and again in the HL extension built on top of it. The practical effect is that HL remediation almost always has to go backwards before it goes forwards, and a tutor who starts at the HL material because that is what the student asked for will produce two months of apparent progress followed by a mock result that has not moved.

The table sets out where time actually goes. The hours column is not a promise; it is what we typically see for a student working from a secure Standard Level base towards a confident Higher Level answer in that unit, and a student starting lower will need more. What the table is genuinely useful for is ordering. Reactivity 2 and Reactivity 3 between them carry most of the marks that distinguish a 5 from a 7, and they are also the units students postpone, because equilibrium and mechanisms both feel harder than they are once the notation is secure.

One caution on syllabus material. The IB's subject guides, past papers, mark schemes and grade-boundary tables are the IB's copyright. We reference them, cite them and teach from the student's own legitimately obtained copies; we do not reproduce or supply them. Any tutoring service offering a download pack of IB papers is distributing material it does not own, and the same applies to Cambridge and Pearson documents. The official route is your child's school or the board's own site.

Paper 1A, Paper 1B and Paper 2: what each component rewards

Under the current guide, DP Chemistry is assessed by Paper 1 at 36%, Paper 2 at 44% and the scientific investigation at 20%, at both Standard and Higher Level. Paper 1 splits into two parts. Paper 1A is multiple choice. Paper 1B is data-based and set on the experimental programme, which means it tests the practical work a student has actually done rather than content recall. Paper 2 is short and extended response. Confirm the current durations and the exact split with your child's Diploma coordinator, because assessment detail is revised between guide cycles.

Paper 1B is the component with the largest gap between how much it is worth and how much it is practised. Students arrive having worked through dozens of multiple-choice questions and almost no data-based ones, because data-based questions are harder to self-mark and schools under time pressure set what can be marked quickly. The result is predictable: a student who can recall everything and cannot interpret a table of titration readings. Half of the Paper 1B work in a tutoring block is not chemistry teaching at all. It is teaching a student to read a column heading, including its units.

Paper 2 is where command terms decide the grade. State, outline, describe, explain, deduce, discuss and evaluate are not synonyms, and each one has a mark allocation shaped to it. A student who explains when asked to state wastes time they needed later in the paper; a student who states when asked to explain loses the marks outright. This is learnable in a handful of sessions and it is the single highest-return item on most DP Chemistry plans, which is why it sits near the front of any eight-week block we build.

Stamina is a real variable at Higher Level. The HL papers are materially longer than the SL ones, and a student who has only ever practised in thirty-minute chunks will lose marks in the final third of Paper 2 to fatigue rather than to chemistry. Full-length timed practice, at least three times before the session, is the fix. It is also the part of a plan that families most often skip, because a two-and-a-half-hour paper on a school night is genuinely difficult to schedule in a household that already commutes out of Dubailand twice a day.

05

Where chemistry marks actually go missing between October and March

  • Enthalpy sign conventions, applied until automatic rather than re-taught
  • Equilibrium answers that name the reason for a shift, not just the shift
  • Redox half-equations balanced for charge as well as atoms
  • Mechanism steps narrated in words, not only drawn
  • Unit conversion between cm3 and dm3, and significant figures carried through

The marks a DP Chemistry student loses are more repeatable than most parents expect. Across the diagnostic papers we mark, the same small set of losses accounts for most of the gap between a 5 and a 7, and almost none of it is exotic content. It is sign conventions in energetics, equilibrium answers that restate rather than explain, redox half-equations that do not balance, organic mechanism descriptions that do not match the arrows the student drew, and significant figures discarded somewhere in the middle of a correct calculation.

Energetics is the clearest example. A student calculates an enthalpy change of the right magnitude, writes it with the wrong sign, and loses the mark for a conclusion they actually understood. The fix is not more enthalpy teaching. It is a rule about where the sign comes from, applied to twenty questions in a row until it is automatic. That is a single session's work and it recurs on every paper, which makes it the highest-value hour in a typical block. Equilibrium is the same shape: students know Le Chatelier and write answers that describe the shift without naming the reason for it.

Mechanisms in Reactivity 3 are the most misdiagnosed. Students who get them wrong are usually told they need to learn mechanisms, and they have learned them, in the sense that they can draw the curly arrows from memory. What they cannot do is say what the arrow represents in words, which is what the mark scheme asks for. Teaching the verbal description alongside the diagram, rather than after it, closes that gap faster than any amount of redrawing. It also transfers: a student who can narrate a nucleophilic substitution can usually narrate an electrophilic addition without being taught it twice.

The last category is not chemistry. Arithmetic slips, unit conversions between cubic centimetres and cubic decimetres, significant figures and simple misreading of the question are, in our marking, a substantial share of lost marks at Standard Level. They are also the fastest to fix and the easiest to ignore, because they look like carelessness rather than a skill gap. Treating them as a skill gap, with their own practice and their own checklist, is what turns a student who understands chemistry into one whose paper shows it.

06

The scientific investigation, criterion by criterion

  • Research design, 6 marks: feasibility and data range decided before collection
  • Data analysis, 6 marks: uncertainties carried consistently from raw to processed
  • Conclusion, 6 marks: claims kept inside what the data actually supports
  • Evaluation, 6 marks: specific limitations with a direction of effect, not human error
  • The student writes every word; the tutor questions, marks and teaches

The investigation is 20% of the DP Chemistry grade and is marked out of 24 across four criteria, each worth six marks: research design, data analysis, conclusion and evaluation. No competitor page in this market names a single criterion, let alone its mark allocation, which is remarkable given that this is the one piece of the grade a student has months of control over. It is also the component where tutoring boundaries matter most, so the rules are set out plainly below before any of the technique is.

Research design is where investigations are won or lost, and it happens before any data exists. The commonest failure is a research question that cannot generate enough variation in the dependent variable to say anything. A student measuring rate against three concentrations spread across a narrow band will produce a graph with no shape and an analysis with nothing to analyse, and no amount of good writing afterwards recovers it. The useful tutoring intervention is a feasibility conversation at proposal stage: what is your range, how many levels, how many repeats, what will the graph look like if your hypothesis is right.

Data analysis and conclusion are mechanical in the best sense. Uncertainty handled consistently, raw data presented with units in the heading, processing shown once in full, graphs with the right axes and a line that is justified rather than drawn by eye. Students lose marks here for inconsistency more than for error: uncertainties quoted in the table and then dropped from the processed values, or a conclusion that goes further than the data supports. Both are visible to a reader who knows the criteria and invisible to a student reading their own work for the fifth time.

Evaluation is the criterion most students treat as a formality, and it is six marks. Listing human error is worth nothing. Identifying a specific methodological limitation, explaining the direction in which it would have skewed the result, and proposing a realistic improvement is worth the lot. The boundary on all of this is firm: a tutor asks questions, marks against the published descriptors and teaches the technique. No tutor should write the investigation, draft the conclusion or complete the coursework for a student, and we decline requests to do any of it.

07

What a term of IB Chemistry tuition costs in the Dubailand belt

Start with the term rather than the hour, because the hour is the number that misleads. A weekly ninety-minute session from October to the end of the spring term is roughly twenty-four sessions. At the lower end of the specialist band that is a four-figure commitment in dirhams; at the upper end it is several times that. Knowing the per-hour rate without knowing the session count is how families end up surprised in January, and it is also why the monthly figures in the table are the more useful column for budgeting.

The numbers here are market rates with their sources, not an IB Gram price list. Bestimate's Tutoring Cost Dubai 2026 rate table puts in-home one-to-one at AED 180 to 350 and specialist IB, IGCSE and A-Level tutors at AED 200 to 450 and above. Among the agencies, EdFlik advertises from AED 45 to 65 and Tutopiya from AED 33 to 52 at the budget end; Unitors publishes IGCSE from AED 150 and IB from AED 200; TutorChase quotes AED 270; BartyED's premium named tier reaches AED 650. Independent home tutors in Dubai are quoted in the AED 200 to 500 range once travel is included.

Monthly packages circulate too, and they are worth reading carefully for what they contain. Figures seen in this market include AED 799 a month for eight online sessions and AED 1,599 to 1,799 a month for four two-hour in-home sessions. Bestimate's own monthly estimates for a weekly one-hour session run AED 240 to 600 at the budget end, AED 600 to 1,200 in the middle and AED 1,000 to 2,000 and above for specialist examination-year support. The spread is real and it tracks specialism rather than brand: a DP Chemistry HL specialist is expensive everywhere because there are not many of them.

What IB Gram does rather than publish a rate card: a free trial lesson with the matched tutor, no card details taken, and a quoted figure for your specific subject, level and session length before anything is booked. Tutoring is not required for Ministry of Education equivalency, for university admission or for school progression, and any page that implies otherwise is manufacturing urgency about a regulatory process. The honest framing is that chemistry tuition buys contact time with a specialist, and whether that is worth it depends entirely on what the diagnostic finds.

How lessons reach Arabian Ranches 3, stated plainly

IB Gram delivers tutoring to UAE families as one-to-one lessons over live video. We do not send tutors to homes anywhere in the UAE; home visits are a service we offer only in India. The phrase in this page's address is the phrase parents type, and it is worth answering properly rather than dodging, so here is the direct version: if you want somebody sitting at the kitchen table in Arabian Ranches 3, that is a real service and it exists in this market, and the rates in the previous section tell you what it costs. We are not it.

The case for online is not that it is cheaper, although at the specialist end it generally is once travel is priced in. The case is supply. DP Chemistry HL specialists are scarce across the whole emirate, and Arabian Ranches 3 is on the outer Dubailand ring, which means hiring by proximity narrows an already thin pool to whoever happens to be a twenty-minute drive away. Online delivery means the constraint becomes the tutor's calendar rather than their commute, and a student gets a Chemistry HL specialist instead of a general science tutor who is nearby.

The second argument is operational and it is specific to this community. Children in Arabian Ranches 3 commute, often on a bus loop that adds thirty to forty minutes to a short drive. A tutor travelling in from elsewhere in Dubai at 17:00 is travelling against the same traffic, which is why in-home slots in the outer villa communities cluster late and get cancelled by road conditions more often than families expect. A video lesson starts when the student sits down. Over a twenty-four-session term, that difference is several whole sessions of recovered time.

What online genuinely requires: a wired or strong wireless connection, a device with a camera, a document camera or a phone propped to show handwritten working, and somewhere in the villa that is not the kitchen during dinner. Chemistry needs written working visible to the tutor, so a student who cannot show their page will lose half the value of the session. That is a setup problem rather than a format problem, and it is worth fixing properly in the first week rather than tolerating for a term.

Academic honesty, the permit question and the paperwork that arrives later

Three pieces of compliance sit around chemistry tutoring in Dubai, and all three are easier to deal with early. The first is academic honesty. IB rules make the investigation, the Extended Essay and the TOK essay the student's own work, and a breach is a malpractice finding against the student rather than against the tutor. The boundary is not subtle: teaching, questioning, marking against published criteria and process coaching are all legitimate. Producing text, editing a draft to completion or supplying an investigation are not. There are services in this market that sell completed internal assessments; using one puts a Diploma at risk.

The second is the permit. Private tutoring in the UAE is regulated: the MoHRE private tutor work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, it is granted free of charge for two years, and eligible applicants include teachers registered in government or private schools, government and private sector employees, unemployed individuals, school students aged 15 to 18 and university students. MoHRE's own service, Issuance of a New Work Permit - Private Tutor Licensing, lists no fee and a two-working-day completion time, applied for through the MoHRE smart app, website and e-services system. Individuals tutoring without a permit are subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws; no fine schedule is published, so no amount should be quoted to you.

There is a related point parents in Abu Dhabi hear more often than parents in Dubai, and it is worth knowing in both. ADEK's professional-ethics rules for private and charter school staff prohibit teachers from providing paid private tutoring to students enrolled at their own school, and the MoHRE permit carries a code of conduct that also bars serving students affiliated with the tutor's own school. That is press-reported rather than read from the current policy document, so verify it against ADEK directly if it affects you. The practical consequence either way: do not ask your child's own subject teacher to tutor them privately.

The third is equivalency, which arrives at the end and catches people. The Ministry of Education's British-track requirement is five accredited subjects in GCSE or IGCSE certificates at no less than grade E or grade 3, plus one accredited subject at Advanced Level at no less than E or two at Advanced Subsidiary Level at the same grade; Arabic and Islamic education are not included among the five. One ranking competitor publishes a six-subject figure, which is wrong. For the IB track there is no points threshold we have been able to read on a Ministry source, so we publish none. Dubai schools also run Arabic, Islamic Education and Social or Moral Studies alongside the licensed curriculum, with KHDA requiring separate classes for Arabs and non-Arabs and combined classes strictly prohibited.

Where we tutor

Nearby areas we cover around Arabian Ranches 3

Arabian Ranches 3 sits on the inner Dubailand ring, with the E611 Emirates Road on one side and the older Ranches communities on the other. These are the neighbourhoods whose school runs, and therefore whose lesson slots, overlap with this one.

Arabian Ranches

The original Emaar community and the location of Jumeirah English Speaking School Arabian Ranches, which is where a large share of Arabian Ranches 3 secondary students end up. The drive is short but the bus loop is not, which pushes realistic lesson starts past 16:30.

Arabian Ranches 2

Home to Ranches Primary School, so primary-age children from Arabian Ranches 3 often travel here while older siblings go elsewhere. Households running two different school timetables are the usual reason a single evening cannot hold two sessions back to back.

Dubai Hills Estate

Fifteen minutes north on the Al Khail side and the nearest cluster of IB continuum campuses, including the Al Khail schools. Families who moved from Dubai Hills to Arabian Ranches 3 frequently keep the old school, which makes their commute the longest in this list.

Motor City

GEMS Metropole School sits here, running the British curriculum through to IGCSE and beyond. Chemistry enquiries from Motor City are more often IGCSE than Diploma, and the transition between the two is where the sharpest content gap appears.

Dubai Sports City

Victory Heights Primary School and a dense apartment population. Lesson requests from here skew towards early evening because the commute is shorter, which means Sports City and Arabian Ranches 3 families compete for the same 17:00 slots.

DAMAC Hills and DAMAC Hills 2

Further out along the Umm Suqeim Street extension, with a mix of British and American curriculum provision. DP Chemistry demand here is lower in volume but harder to serve locally, which is the clearest single argument for online delivery in the whole belt.

Town Square and Mudon

Large, young and still filling, with a heavy primary and lower secondary population. Few DP Chemistry requests yet, and a lot of MYP and Year 9 science enquiries that will become DP Chemistry requests within three years.

Remraam and The Sustainable City

South View School serves Remraam and Fairgreen International School runs the IB continuum in the Sustainable City. Fairgreen is one of the few Diploma options genuinely close to Arabian Ranches 3, which makes its internal deadlines relevant to this page.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in Arabian Ranches 3

The Dubailand ring Arabian Ranches 3 children commute into

There is no school inside Arabian Ranches 3 itself. These are the campuses the community feeds, and the reason an honest lesson slot for a DP Chemistry student here rarely begins before 16:30 on a weekday.

  • Jumeirah English Speaking School, Arabian Ranches
  • Fairgreen International School, The Sustainable City
  • Ranches Primary School, Arabian Ranches 2
  • GEMS Metropole School, Motor City
  • Victory Heights Primary School, Dubai Sports City
  • South View School, Remraam

Diploma campuses families drive further for

Where a student needs a Diploma place rather than a primary place, the realistic shortlist widens towards Nad Al Sheba, Al Barsha South and Dubailand proper. Several of these run DP Chemistry at both levels; the only reliable confirmation is the school's own subject offer sheet for the current year.

  • Kent College Dubai, Nad Al Sheba
  • GEMS FirstPoint School, The Villa
  • Dunecrest American School, Dubailand
  • Nord Anglia International School Dubai, Al Barsha South
  • Dubai Heights Academy, Al Barsha South
  • Repton Al Barsha

Schools are named here as context for the community this page covers. IB Gram has no affiliation, partnership or endorsement from any school named, and none of them is a client.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Tell us the date you are working towards

Not the subject first. The date: a mock window, a school investigation deadline, the May session, or a report that needs to look different by February. Everything downstream, including whether tutoring is the right spend at all, depends on how many weeks sit between now and that date and on which of them are school holidays.

  2. 02

A free trial lesson with the matched specialist

Sixty minutes with the tutor who would actually teach the term, not a sales call and not a different person. No card details are taken before it. The student brings a recent assessment and a question that has been bothering them, and the session ends with one concrete observation about where marks are going.

  3. 03

A diagnostic paper, marked against the mark scheme

A full past paper under timing in the first fortnight, marked question by question against the published scheme rather than impressionistically. This is what tells you whether the loss is content, command terms, process or stamina, and the four need different plans. The marked paper comes back to you with the pattern named.

  4. 04

An eight-week plan with dated checkpoints

Written down, ordered by marks lost rather than by syllabus sequence, with new content stopping two weeks before the target date. You get the plan before the second paid session, which means you can judge it, change it or decline it while nothing is sunk.

  5. 05

Fortnightly review, and an honest stop

Every two weeks the plan is checked against evidence rather than feeling. If the diagnostic was wrong, it changes. If the student has reached the point where more tutoring is not the best use of the money, we say so and stop, which happens more often than this industry admits.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

Matched on level, not on subject

A Chemistry HL student eleven weeks from a mock and a Chemistry SL student planning an investigation are two different jobs. Matching on the subject alone is how families end up with a competent biologist teaching organic mechanisms, and it is the commonest failure in a thin specialist market like this one.

The marking is the evidence

Progress is reported against marked papers and criterion descriptors, not against a tutor's impression of how a session went. You see the marked script. That makes an unhelpful match visible in two weeks rather than at the end of a term, which is the point of doing it this way.

Coverage limits stated before you book

Some Higher Level slots in some evening windows cannot be covered by a genuine specialist. When that is true we say it rather than filling the slot with a generalist and hoping. No competitor page in this market discloses a coverage limit at all, which tells you something about how often it happens.

Rates quoted with their sources

Every dirham figure on this page is attributed to the organisation that published it, with the tier it belongs to. We do not present market rates as ours, and we do not publish a statistic without saying where it came from. That is a low bar and most of this market does not clear it.

Academic honesty treated as a hard line

Teaching, questioning, marking and process coaching on the student's own work, every time. No drafting, no editing to completion, no supplied text for an investigation, Extended Essay or TOK essay. The risk of the alternative sits on the student, not on the tutor, which is exactly why it is not negotiable.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Arabian Ranches 3: your questions answered

How many weeks before the May session is it still worth starting IB Chemistry tutoring?+

Eight weeks is enough to change command-term accuracy, data-booklet speed and how much of a paper a student finishes, and those three together often move a grade band. Twelve to sixteen weeks is enough to repair a specific unit as well, which is what a student losing marks in Reactivity 2 actually needs. Under four weeks, the honest answer is that the work becomes timed-paper discipline and nothing else, which still has value but a smaller one. The deciding factor is not the number of weeks but what the first marked paper shows, so start with the diagnostic and decide afterwards.

My daughter understands chemistry but her Paper 2 marks are low. What is usually causing that?+

Almost always command terms. State, outline, describe, explain and deduce each have a mark allocation shaped to them, and a student who explains when the question says state burns time they need later while a student who states when it says explain loses the marks outright. The second common cause is pace: the final third of Paper 2 goes unfinished because the earlier answers were over-written. Both are visible the moment a full paper is marked against the published scheme question by question, and both are fixable in a handful of sessions, which makes this the highest-return item on most plans.

How is the IB Chemistry scientific investigation marked, and what is each criterion worth?+

It is 20% of the Chemistry grade and is marked out of 24 across four criteria worth six marks each: research design, data analysis, conclusion and evaluation. Research design is decided before any data is collected, which is why a weak research question cannot be rescued by good writing later. Evaluation is the criterion students treat as a formality and it is a quarter of the total, so listing human error there is an expensive habit. Ask your child's teacher for the current published descriptors; they are the thing to self-mark against, and they are more specific than most students assume.

Can a tutor help with the Chemistry investigation without breaking IB academic honesty rules?+

Yes, within a firm boundary. A tutor can test whether a research question will generate a usable range of data, teach uncertainty handling and error propagation on the student's own readings, mark a draft against the published criteria and ask the questions that expose a conclusion going further than the data supports. A tutor must not write any part of it, edit a draft to completion or supply text. The risk of crossing that line sits with the student as a malpractice finding, not with the tutor, which is why we decline requests to do more and say so in the first conversation.

Is IB Chemistry HL much harder than SL, or is it the same course with more content?+

Neither, quite. Higher Level extends the same six units rather than adding a seventh, so the content list looks similar and the depth does not. The practical consequence matters more than the comparison: a Higher Level student with a Standard Level weakness loses the mark twice, once on the SL-level question and again on the HL extension built on top of it. That is why HL remediation usually has to go backwards before it goes forwards. Paper durations are longer at HL too, so stamina across a full paper becomes a genuine variable rather than an afterthought.

What is Paper 1B in IB Chemistry and why do students do so badly on it?+

Paper 1B is the data-based part of Paper 1, set on the experimental programme rather than on content recall. Students do badly because they have practised multiple choice extensively and data-based questions barely at all. Data-based questions are slow to mark, so schools under time pressure set fewer of them, and the gap is invisible until a mock. The work is less chemistry teaching than reading discipline: column headings, units, what a number in a table actually represents. It responds quickly to practice, which makes it one of the better uses of early sessions in a short block.

Which schools near Arabian Ranches 3 actually run IB Diploma Chemistry?+

There is no school inside Arabian Ranches 3, so Diploma students commute. Jumeirah English Speaking School in Arabian Ranches and Fairgreen International School in the Sustainable City are the closest IB options, with further Diploma provision at Kent College Dubai in Nad Al Sheba and at the Al Barsha South campuses. Whether a given campus offers Chemistry at both levels in a given year depends on its own subject offer sheet and on how many students opted in, so check that document directly. Schools are named here as community context only; IB Gram has no affiliation with any of them.

Does IB Gram send a chemistry tutor to a villa in Arabian Ranches 3?+

No. Lessons for UAE families run one-to-one over live video, and we do not send tutors to homes anywhere in the UAE; home visits are something we offer only in India. In-home chemistry tutoring does exist in this market and the published rates run roughly AED 180 to 500 an hour once travel is priced in, so it is a real option, just not ours. The argument for online here is supply rather than price: Diploma Chemistry specialists are scarce across the emirate, and hiring by driving distance from the outer Dubailand ring narrows a thin pool further.

What time can a chemistry session realistically start for a child bussed home to Arabian Ranches 3?+

Plan for 16:30 at the earliest on a weekday, and 17:00 if the bus runs a full Dubailand loop. The community sits on the outer ring, so a short drive becomes a long ride once the route picks up other communities, and a student who walks in at 16:05 needs twenty minutes before they are usable. Households with children at two different campuses usually cannot fit two sessions into one evening at all, which is worth discovering at the planning stage rather than in week three. Weekend mornings are consistently the most productive slot for longer HL work.

Does my child need a laboratory at home if chemistry lessons are online?+

No. The practical work that counts is the school's, including the experimental programme Paper 1B is set on and the investigation itself, and that happens in the school laboratory under supervision. What online sessions do is the thinking around it: designing the investigation so the data will be usable, processing readings the student has already taken, handling uncertainty, and interpreting other people's data in Paper 1B style questions. What you do need is a way to show handwritten working on screen, because chemistry marks live in the working rather than in the final answer.

How many chemistry sessions a week does a DP2 student in this part of Dubai usually take?+

One, in most cases, at sixty or ninety minutes. Two becomes sensible in two situations: an examination-year student repairing a specific unit on a deadline, or a student carrying both Chemistry HL and a second Group 4 subject with investigation deadlines in the same weeks. More than two a week in a single subject is rarely the right answer, because the gap between sessions is where independent practice happens and removing it produces a student who performs well with a tutor and not alone. The session count should fall as the term progresses, not rise.

Do private chemistry tutors in Dubai need a permit, and how would I check?+

Yes. The MoHRE private tutor work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, is granted free of charge for two years, and covers teachers registered in schools, government and private sector employees, unemployed individuals, school students aged 15 to 18 and university students. MoHRE's own service page is Issuance of a New Work Permit - Private Tutor Licensing, listing no fee and a two-working-day completion time via the MoHRE smart app, website and e-services system. Ask the tutor directly whether they hold one. Tutoring without a permit attracts fines and penalties under the applicable laws, and no fine schedule is published, so treat any quoted amount with suspicion.

Can we ask my son's own chemistry teacher at his Dubai school to tutor him privately?+

It is the arrangement to avoid. ADEK's professional-ethics rules for private and charter school staff prohibit teachers from providing paid private tutoring to students enrolled at their own school, and the MoHRE permit carries a code of conduct that also bars serving students affiliated with the tutor's own school. That is press-reported rather than read from the current policy text, so verify it with the regulator if it matters to you, but the direction is consistent and the conflict of interest is obvious: the person who sets and marks the assessment should not be paid separately to prepare your child for it.

Will Arabic and Islamic Education lessons clash with a Diploma chemistry catch-up plan?+

They occupy real timetable hours, so yes, they change what a week can hold. Arabic, Islamic Education and Social or Moral Studies are mandatory in all Dubai private schools regardless of the licensed international curriculum, and KHDA calculates the required instructional time on a forty-minute lesson unit while advising that any mandatory subject lesson runs at least twenty-five minutes. KHDA also requires separate classes for Arabs and non-Arabs in Arabic as a first language, Islamic Education and Social Studies, with combined classes strictly prohibited. Build the chemistry plan around the actual timetable rather than around a notional free evening.

What happens if no IB Chemistry HL specialist is free in the evening slot we need?+

We tell you, before you pay anything. A Higher Level Chemistry slot at a specific weekday time is the hardest thing to fill in this market, and the alternatives we will offer are a different time, a weekend morning, a short wait for a specialist's calendar to open, or a different structure such as a bounded investigation clinic rather than weekly teaching. What we will not do is fill the slot with a general science tutor and let you find out in week four. No competitor page in this market discloses a coverage limit, which is worth noticing when you compare them.

Start with the date, not the subject

If you are looking for an IB chemistry tutor in Arabian Ranches 3, the useful first message is one line: the level, the campus, and the date you are working backwards from. That tells us whether the next eight weeks should be spent on Reactivity 2, on command terms, on the investigation, or on nothing at all because the mock has already been sat and the prediction already written. The free trial lesson is with the tutor who would teach the term, no card details are taken, and the diagnostic paper that follows is what the plan is built from. If the answer is that tutoring is not the right spend right now, we will say that too.
