IB Physics Tutor in Arabian Ranches 3

Most families look for an IB physics tutor in Arabian Ranches 3 in February, when the mock scripts come back and the Higher Level fields topic has only just been taught. IB Gram works the other way round: from the exam window backwards through the mock, the investigation deadline and the weeks the school has left to deliver content. Lessons are one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time. The first one is free and is spent on a real paper.

  • The plan is built backwards from the exam window, not forwards from the enquiry
  • Investigation support is stage-gated, so no draft arrives too late for feedback
  • Lessons run one-to-one over live video, never as a visit to the villa
  • No IB exam or results date is published here, because none could be verified

Why a physics plan has to start at the exam window and work back

DP Physics has a structural problem that no other Diploma subject has quite so sharply. The content a Higher Level student finds hardest, fields and electromagnetic induction, is taught last, usually in DP2 and often around or after the mock window. So a student sits a full set of papers on material the school has not finished delivering, receives a mark that reflects that, and the family reads it as a general weakness. It is frequently not a weakness at all. It is a sequencing effect, and the two have completely different remedies.

That is why a physics plan has to be built from the exam window backwards rather than from the day the enquiry arrives. Counting back from the window gives a fixed set of deadlines, almost all of them set by the school rather than by the IB: the investigation question, the data collection, the draft that has to exist before the one permitted round of written feedback, the mock, the point after which no new content should be introduced. Those dates are knowable in September and they are the frame everything else hangs on.

A note on dates, stated plainly because it matters. No IB exam or results date appears anywhere on this page. The IB's own site blocks automated checking, so nothing in this project has been confirmed from the IB itself, and your school's IB coordinator is the correct and only source for the session your child is sitting. Any tutoring page handing you a precise IB date without saying where it came from is guessing, and a plan built on a guessed date is worse than no plan.

The delivery position, equally plainly. IB Gram does not make home visits in Dubai and sends nobody to an address in Arabian Ranches 3; in-home tutoring runs only in our India service. Physics here is taught one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time, on a shared screen and whiteboard. For this subject that format carries a specific advantage: uncertainty propagation, gradient analysis and circuit reasoning are done on a shared surface where every line is visible to both people as it is written, and the data question is worked rather than discussed.

What follows is the two years counted backwards, the investigation stage by stage with the point at which each stage stalls, what each written component actually rewards, which Higher Level topics land latest and what catching them up costs, an eight-week plan with the evidence check for each fortnight, how practical and data skills work without a laboratory in the room, and what the UAE year does to all of it. The cost section is at the end, framed as an exam-year budget rather than as an hourly rate, because that is how the decision is actually made.

At a glance

  • Higher Level fields and induction are usually taught last and met first in a mock
  • The scientific investigation carries 20% of the grade and is almost entirely school-deadlined
  • Only one round of written teacher feedback is permitted on the draft
  • Paper 1B rewards uncertainty and gradient work practised all year, not revised in a block
  • Lessons are delivered online; home visits are an India-only service
  • Every IB date must come from your school's coordinator, not from a tutoring page
IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Physics support is requested at four points in an IB school career, and they are four different jobs. Middle years science before physics separates out, the two Diploma levels, and the scientific investigation, which is supervision rather than teaching and runs on its own calendar.

MYPAges 11-16 · MYP 1-5

MYP Sciences, before physics separates

Taught and marked as integrated sciences against four criteria, each scored 1 to 8, with inquiring and designing and processing and evaluating carrying the experimental skills that the Diploma investigation will later assume. A student can score well on knowing and understanding and poorly on the two experimental criteria, which is the exact profile that struggles with the Diploma investigation two years later. That pattern is visible on an MYP report if you know which criteria to look at.

In Dubai the MYP to Diploma transition happens inside the same school for continuum campuses and across a change of school for many families in the Dubailand belt. Where the school changes, the experimental skills a student arrives with vary a great deal, and a diagnostic on a past data question is a faster way to find out than waiting for the first DP1 practical.

SLAges 16-19 · DP1 to DP2

DP Physics, Standard Level

The common core across mechanics, energy, waves, electricity, thermal physics and atomic and nuclear physics, with written papers and the scientific investigation. Standard Level students are not spared the mathematics: rearranging formulae, handling units and interpreting gradients carry marks throughout. The commonest profile is a student who understands the physics and loses marks to presentation, undefined symbols and answers written at the wrong depth.

Standard Level physics is widely taken in Dubai Diploma cohorts by students whose intended degree does not require the higher level, which makes it a subject where tutoring is often bought late and in small quantities. That works, provided the diagnosis is honest: eight weeks of technique on a Standard Level course is a reasonable purchase in a way that eight weeks of content is not.

HLAges 16-19 · DP1 to DP2

DP Physics, Higher Level

The core plus additional higher level material: further mechanics and rotational motion, gravitational and electric fields, electromagnetic induction, deeper thermodynamics and additional quantum and nuclear content. The additional material is both the hardest and the latest taught, which is the single most important scheduling fact about this subject. Sign conventions in field problems account for a disproportionate share of lost marks across the whole course.

Higher Level physics is the subject most often named in late enquiries from the Dubailand belt, usually in the weeks after a DP2 mock. The useful response is to read the script by topic rather than by total, because the mark often reflects when the school taught the material rather than how well the student understands it.

IAAges 16-19 · DP1 to DP2

The scientific investigation

An independent experimental report worth a fifth of the grade, run on the school's internal deadlines rather than the IB's. It needs a question with one clearly measurable dependent variable, repeated readings with recorded uncertainties, a graph whose gradient means something physically, and an evaluation tied to the student's own data rather than to generic limitations. Most reports that disappoint were decided at the question stage, months before the writing.

For Dubai students the practical constraint is often equipment and laboratory access rather than ideas, since the school's laboratory time is finite and shared. That makes question choice even more consequential here: a question that needs twelve data points from equipment available for two sessions is a question that will not produce a gradient.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

A physics page should name the parts of the course and the specific thing that goes wrong in each. These are the topic areas and skills a DP physics tutor plans a term around, written as a tutor would brief them rather than as a syllabus list.

Mechanics, motion and forces

SL and HL

The foundation everything later leans on, and the one topic a student cannot afford to have half-learned. Marks leave through free-body diagrams drawn without all the forces, and through signs assigned by instinct rather than by a declared positive direction. Both are fixable habits and both pay off in fields work a year later.

Energy, work and power

SL and HL

Conceptually accessible and mechanically unforgiving. Students lose marks by quoting an energy equation without stating which system it applies to, and by mixing joules and electronvolts in nuclear questions. Efficiency questions reward a clear statement of input and output before any arithmetic happens.

Waves and oscillations

SL and HL

Superposition, standing waves, diffraction and the sign-sensitive geometry of path difference. The recurring loss is a correct calculation attached to the wrong physical situation, usually because the diagram was never drawn. Higher Level adds depth on simple harmonic motion that rewards algebraic confidence.

Electricity and circuits

SL and HL

Potential difference and current treated as the same idea is the error that persists longest. Circuit questions reward redrawing the circuit before calculating anything, and internal resistance questions reward writing the loop equation out in full rather than reasoning about it verbally.

Gravitational and electric fields

Higher Level

The highest-value topic for tutoring in the whole course, because it is hard, taught late, and worth marks on every subsequent paper. Potential and field strength are distinct quantities with distinct signs, and students who conflate them lose marks consistently for months. Three or four sessions well spent here change more than a term of general revision.

Electromagnetic induction

Higher Level

Flux, rate of change and direction reasoning, taught in DP2 and frequently after the first mock. Direction questions reward a stated rule applied in a fixed order rather than intuition. Because it arrives last, it is usually the topic with the least practice behind it when the papers are sat.

Thermal physics and thermodynamics

SL and HL

Specific heat and latent heat questions lose marks to units and to mass values read from the wrong line of a table. Higher Level adds cycles and entropy, where the marks are in reading the diagram correctly before reasoning about work and heat rather than in the calculation itself.

Atomic, nuclear and quantum physics

SL and HL

Short, dense and taught at the end, which means it is often revised once. Decay calculations and energy level reasoning reward precise unit handling, and binding energy questions reward a clear statement of which nucleus is being considered. Higher Level adds depth that has to be practised rather than read.

Uncertainty, data analysis and graphs

SL and HL, and the investigation

The skill that behaves least like a topic. Uncertainty propagation, error bars, gradients with units and lines of best and worst fit have to be practised weekly across two years, because a block of revision in the final weeks produces recognition rather than fluency. This is where Paper 1B marks are won and lost.

The mathematics inside physics

SL and HL

Rearranging before substituting, handling powers of ten, keeping units through a calculation and reading a logarithmic scale. Students sitting Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation alongside Higher Level physics often need this explicitly taught, because their mathematics course emphasises interpretation over algebraic manipulation.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Physics requests from this community fall into three shapes, and they belong at different points in the two years. Buying the wrong one at the wrong time is the commonest waste in the subject.

A weekly hour running alongside the school's sequence

Booked from DP1, deliberately out of step with the school: the school teaches new content, the evening hour consolidates what was taught a month ago and keeps uncertainty and graph work ticking over weekly. By the mock window the student has two years of data practice rather than a revision block, which is where Paper 1B marks come from.

  • Twenty minutes of data and uncertainty work in every single session
  • Consolidation of topics taught a month earlier, not of this week's lesson
  • Free-body diagrams and declared sign conventions enforced from the start
  • Written notes naming the topic and the error class seen
  • Investigation stages flagged before the school's deadlines, not after

Investigation supervision, on the school's deadlines

A separate arrangement with a different rhythm: dense around the question choice and the draft, quiet in between. The student designs, collects and writes everything. Sessions work on whether the question can produce a gradient, whether the uncertainties are honest and whether the evaluation is tied to the actual data. The school's teacher approves the proposal and gives the one permitted round of written feedback.

  • Question tested against one criterion: can it produce a meaningful gradient
  • Method checked for a realistic range and named controlled variables
  • Uncertainty recording set up before data collection rather than after
  • Draft read against the criteria, with the gap named rather than fixed
  • Timed so the draft exists before the permitted feedback round

An eight-week block before the exam window

Two sessions a week with an end date written in, built on the mock script rather than on the syllabus. It can change timing, command-term depth, definitions and derivations, and it can properly teach the two Higher Level topics taught latest. It cannot deliver two years of content, and anyone implying otherwise is selling hours.

  • Mock script read by topic, with errors sorted into three categories
  • Two Higher Level topics taught from the beginning, not revised
  • A full paper under time every week from week six onward
  • No new content in the final fortnight, by design
  • An explicit finish date, usually the first paper of the session

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Arabian Ranches 3

01

What a physics enquiry from this community is usually describing

Enquiries for DP physics arrive in a narrow window, and almost always with the same story attached. A mock script has come back below expectation. The student says they understood the lessons. The topics that went worst are the ones taught most recently. And the family has concluded, reasonably, that physics is the problem subject. In a large share of cases the mark is describing the school's delivery order rather than the student's grasp, and the first useful act is to separate the two.

That separation is done by reading the script by topic instead of by total. Group the lost marks three ways: physics the student does not know, physics they know but cannot express at the depth the command term asks for, and mathematics or presentation failures that have nothing to do with physics at all. Those three piles need different remedies over different timescales, and a plan built before the sorting is a plan built on a number rather than on evidence. It takes one session and it changes what the following eight weeks should contain.

The honest answer to the literal search, meanwhile. IB Gram does not send anyone to a villa in Arabian Ranches 3 and does not offer home visits in the UAE; that service exists only in India. The in-home market here is real and is published at AED 180 to 500 an hour depending on provider, and a family who specifically wants somebody in the room should hire locally and ask to see the MoHRE private tuition work permit, which was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023 and is granted free of charge for two years. What we offer is one-to-one teaching over live video on Gulf Standard Time, matched to the level and to the Higher Level topics in play.

For physics specifically the online format is well suited rather than merely acceptable. Almost everything a tutor needs to see is written: a free-body diagram, a loop equation, an uncertainty propagation, a graph with error bars and a gradient. On a shared board all of that appears line by line in front of both people, and the board is saved for the student. The laboratory work belongs to the school in every arrangement, in-home or online, so nothing is lost there either.

02

The two years of DP physics, counted backwards

Counting backwards produces a frame a family can act on, and nearly every deadline in it is set by the school rather than by the IB. The investigation question, the data collection window, the draft that must exist before the one permitted round of written feedback, the mock, the point after which no new content should be introduced: all of those sit in the school's calendar and all of them are knowable in September.

The earliest window matters most and gets the least attention. In DP1 the two things that pay for themselves repeatedly are a secure mechanics foundation and uncertainty work treated as routine rather than as a topic. Mechanics underpins fields, energy and induction, so a half-learned treatment of forces produces losses eighteen months later that look unrelated to it. Uncertainty and graph analysis behave the same way: practised weekly across two years they become fluent, and revised as a block in the final term they remain recognisable rather than automatic.

The middle of the frame is where the investigation sits, and it is the component most likely to be mistimed. A question chosen in the third term of DP1 leaves room to discover that it cannot produce a gradient and to choose another. The same question chosen in the first term of DP2 competes with every other subject's coursework, and a failed first attempt at data collection becomes unrecoverable. The permitted round of written teacher feedback is a single round, so a draft that arrives late wastes the most valuable input available in the entire component.

The final windows are about restraint. After the mock the plan should narrow, and in the last fortnight no new physics content should be introduced at all, because anything learned then displaces something already secure. The exam window itself is the one date on this page that is not published: confirm the session, the dates and the results timetable with your school's IB coordinator, because the IB's own site blocks automated checking and nothing here has been verified from the IB directly.

03

The scientific investigation, stage by stage and where it stalls

A fifth of the physics grade rests on one independent experimental report, and most reports that disappoint were decided at the question stage months before any writing happened. The test a question has to pass is narrow and it can be applied in ten minutes: can this produce a measurable dependent variable, across a realistic range, using equipment the student can actually get at, enough times to show a trend. A question that fails any part of that will not produce a gradient, and without a gradient there is very little for the evaluation to evaluate.

The second stall point is uncertainty, and it is almost always a recording problem rather than a mathematical one. Uncertainties have to be decided and written down at the moment of measurement, because they cannot be reconstructed afterwards. A student who collects clean data and no uncertainty estimates has removed a whole band of available marks before processing begins. Setting up the recording table before the first reading is a five-minute intervention that protects several marks.

The third is evaluation. Weak reports evaluate generically: more readings, better equipment, human error. Strong reports evaluate specifically, tying each limitation to something visible in their own data, a widening scatter at high values or a systematic offset in the intercept, and proposing an improvement that would address that particular effect. This is the most teachable part of the whole component and the part most often left to the last evening.

The honesty line is firm and it exists to protect the student. No tutor may write any part of the report, design the method on the student's behalf, supply data, or edit a draft into a finished state. A tutor may question a proposed question until the student can defend it, teach the uncertainty and graphing technique the student has chosen to use, read the student's own draft and name which criterion it falls short of, and teach the skill that gap exposes. The school's teacher approves the proposal and gives the single permitted round of written feedback. One operator in this market sells completed internal assessments outright; for the student that is a malpractice finding rather than a shortcut.

04

What each written component actually rewards

Parents read a mock report more usefully once they know what each component is testing, because the components reward genuinely different things and a student can be strong on one and weak on another for reasons that have nothing to do with knowing physics. One section tests breadth at speed across the whole syllabus. Another tests experimental and data-handling skill. Another tests sustained written reasoning on longer questions. A student who revises content alone improves on one of those three.

The multiple-choice section rewards rapid recognition and systematic elimination, and it punishes guessing without eliminating. Timed sets with every wrong option explained afterwards are worth more than the same time spent re-reading notes, because the learning is in why three options were wrong. The data and practical section rewards fluency with uncertainty, gradients and units, which is exactly the skill built by weekly practice across two years and not by a block in the final term.

The extended-response component is where most Higher Level marks are available and where the losses are most consistent: a formula stated without defining its terms, an explanation skipped because the student considered it obvious, an answer written at the wrong depth for the command term. The verb in the question sets the depth, and the mark allocation tells you how much to write. Teaching a student to read both before beginning is one of the highest-return hours available in the subject.

On weightings: the exact percentage each component carries is set in the IB Physics subject guide your school uses, and the physics guide has been revised for recent sessions, so the figures should be confirmed with your coordinator rather than taken from any tutoring page. The relative emphasis in the table below does not depend on that detail and is stable across versions.

05

The Higher Level topics taught latest, and what catching up costs

This is the section that explains most disappointing DP2 physics mocks in Dubai, and it is a curriculum-sequencing fact rather than a judgement about any school. The additional Higher Level content is placed after the common core by almost every scheme of work, which puts fields and electromagnetic induction in DP2 and sometimes around or after the first full mock. The student then sits papers that sample material they met three weeks ago alongside material they met eighteen months ago, and the aggregate mark hides which is which.

The costs of catching up differ sharply between those topics, which is useful because it tells a family where the hours should go. Further mechanics and rotational motion is comparatively quick, because the angular quantities map onto linear ones a student already knows and the analogy does most of the teaching. Fields is the expensive one: gravitational and electric potential and field strength are distinct quantities with distinct sign conventions, and students who conflate them lose marks steadily on every subsequent paper rather than only on field questions.

Electromagnetic induction is the latest-taught and therefore the least practised. Direction reasoning here rewards a stated rule applied in a fixed order every time, rather than intuition, and three or four sessions spent building that habit tend to show up across the whole paper. Thermodynamic cycles are cheap to fix if the gas laws are already secure and expensive if they are not, which makes the gas laws worth checking before the cycles are attempted. The extended quantum and nuclear content is short, dense and usually taught last, so it typically gets one pass and no revision.

The practical conclusion for a DP1 or early DP2 family in Arabian Ranches 3 is to front-load fields. It is the only topic on this list where getting ahead of the school's sequence by a few weeks reliably changes the mock rather than only the final paper, and it is the topic a tutor can most usefully teach before the school reaches it.

06

Eight weeks of physics, and the evidence that it is working

Eight weeks is the commonest block and the easiest to waste. Wasted, it becomes a tour of the syllabus at a depth too shallow to change anything. Used properly, it is built from the mock script rather than from the syllabus, teaches two topics from the beginning, and spends its last fortnight on nothing but technique. The structure below is what that looks like in practice, with the check that distinguishes progress from activity.

The checks matter more than the plan. Improvement on a topic paper the student has already practised proves only that they remember that paper. Improvement on a question about that topic inside a mixed paper they have not seen is evidence. Similarly, finishing the multiple-choice section with minutes to spare is a measurable outcome; feeling more confident is not. A block that cannot produce one of those signals by week four should change its plan or its tutor.

The restraint in the final fortnight is deliberate and it is the part families push back on hardest. No new physics content in the last two weeks, because content learned in that window displaces material already secure and arrives without the practice that makes it usable. What those weeks are for is definitions stated precisely, derivations rehearsed, units carried through, command terms answered at the right depth, and a one-page checklist written out by the student in their own hand.

One further point specific to this subject: the data and practical work should appear in every single session of the eight weeks, not as a week of its own. Twenty minutes of uncertainty and gradient work each time keeps a skill fluent that cannot be revised into fluency in a single block, and it is the most reliably underprepared component in DP physics.

Practical and data skills without a laboratory in the room

The question every physics parent asks about online tuition is what happens to the practical work, and the answer is less of a problem than it sounds, because the laboratory work belongs to the school in every arrangement. No private tutor, in-home or online, runs a student's school practicals or supervises the investigation's data collection. What a tutor contributes is the part that is actually assessed in writing: uncertainty, processing, graphing, interpretation and evaluation.

Those things are better taught on a shared screen than across a table. An uncertainty propagation is a sequence of written lines, and on a shared board both people watch each line appear, so the tutor stops at the step where the reasoning went wrong rather than at the step where the number did. A graph with error bars can be drawn, redrawn and annotated live. A spreadsheet of the student's own readings can be processed together with the formula bar visible, which is how a student learns to check a calculation rather than to trust it.

There is one genuine limitation and it is worth stating. A tutor cannot assess whether a student's apparatus was set up correctly, because they were not there. What a tutor can do is ask the questions that reveal it: what was the range of your independent variable, how many repeats, what was the resolution of the instrument, where did the uncertainty estimate come from. A student who cannot answer those has a method problem that needs the school's laboratory and the school's teacher, and saying so is more useful than working around it.

On materials: IB past papers, mark schemes, subject guides and data booklets are copyright, and IB Gram does not host, email or supply them. They come from the school's own subscription or the IB's official channels, and a provider offering a folder of papers is handing you a copyright problem, with a malpractice exposure attached where any material is unreleased. The student should also be practising with the data booklet their school uses, because finding a value quickly under time is itself a trained skill.

08

The UAE year against a DP2 physics timetable

A revision plan written for a different academic year does not survive contact with this one. Two features of the UAE calendar reliably break imported physics plans. The first is that the DP2 autumn runs new Higher Level content and the start of revision simultaneously, so a student is being asked to learn fields and revise mechanics in the same evenings. The second is Ramadan, which shortens school hours and moves the household's usable study time after Iftar at a point in the spring that shifts year to year.

The autumn collision has a straightforward answer: let the school teach the new content and use the evening hour for consolidation of material taught a month or more earlier. Trying to pre-teach everything the school is about to cover produces a student hearing each topic twice and mastering neither. The exception is fields, which is worth getting slightly ahead of, because it is the one topic where a few weeks of advance notice measurably changes the mock rather than only the final paper.

Ramadan rewards a change of session shape rather than a pause. Shorter and more frequent works better than long and heavy: three forty-minute sessions after Iftar achieve more in that month than two ninety-minute ones in the afternoon, and the content should shift toward definitions, derivations and short data questions rather than full timed papers. Because lessons run over live video there is no journey to negotiate around the timing, which is the clearest practical advantage of the format in that month.

Study leave is the last inflection point and the one where families most often economise by stopping. The school timetable disappears, and with it the only structure most students have ever worked inside. Keeping the slot at the same hour and the same day is worth more then than at any other point in the two years, because the structure has become most of what is being bought. The content of the session changes: timed sections, definitions and the checklist, not new physics.

What an exam-year physics block costs, and how to book one

Physics support is usually bought as an exam-year block rather than as an open-ended arrangement, so the useful number is what the block costs rather than what an hour costs. Bestimate's 2026 monthly estimates for a weekly one-hour session run AED 600 to 1,200 in the middle band and AED 1,000 to 2,000 or more for specialist exam-year support, and an eight-week block at two sessions a week sits at the upper end of that by definition. Against that, packaged online pricing in the market runs around AED 799 a month for eight sessions.

Translated to hours, the published bands are these. A qualified subject tutor working online is published at AED 150 to 300, with Unitors listing IB from AED 200; IB specialists at AED 200 to 450 and above, with TutorChase quoting AED 270 and Bestimate reaching AED 450 or more; in-home one-to-one including travel at AED 180 to 500, Bestimate placing it at AED 180 to 350 and independent home tutors advertising AED 200 to 500; and a premium tier advertising examiner experience at AED 500 to 650 and above, with BartyED publishing AED 650. The budget band at AED 45 to 150, where EdFlik advertises from AED 45 to 65 and Tutopiya from AED 33 to 52, is not a sensible purchase for Higher Level fields work.

Two cautions about the top of that range. Current examiner status is not something a family can verify from a website, and it gives nobody access to marking decisions, grade boundaries or unreleased paper content, so IB Gram does not describe tutors as examiners. And the in-home premium for physics specifically buys the least: the work is written, the laboratory belongs to the school either way, and a shared screen shows the method better than a shared table does. Every figure here is another provider's published rate or a published survey, cited so you can check it rather than take it on trust.

Booking is short. Tell us the level, the Higher Level topics in play, the hour your child is genuinely free and where the investigation stands; we propose one tutor with their level and permit position stated; the first lesson runs free with no card details taken and is spent on a mock script or a past paper. You keep the written diagnosis either way. Where the tutor who fits is based in India rather than the UAE that is stated before any payment, and the lesson is still scheduled on Gulf Standard Time. Enquiries collect a name, school, year group and level because the matching needs them; a deletion request is honoured, under UAE Federal Decree-Law No. 45 of 2021 on Personal Data Protection.

Arabian Ranches 3 phases and the hour a physics session actually gets

In DP2 the limiting resource is a clear hour rather than enthusiasm, and the school run from each phase decides when that hour starts. These notes are about protecting a slot through a mock window and a Ramadan, which is when physics plans usually collapse.

Sun

The earliest phases have the most settled routines, which makes a standing slot easy to defend through the mock window. For physics a 17:00 start is sensible: uncertainty work needs a student who can concentrate, not one who has just got off a bus.

Joy

Shared study space is common, and physics sessions involve a lot of thinking out loud about direction and sign. A headset and a door that closes matter more here than a desk, and a fixed hour beats a flexible one in an open room.

Ruba

A ground-floor study in most layouts suits the longer sessions a full Paper 2 under time requires. Families here often book a weekday hour for teaching and a weekend hour for timed papers, which is the arrangement that works best in DP2.

Spring

Later handovers, with several households still settling a campus. Physics requests from here frequently start as a single diagnostic on a mock script, read by topic to separate a late-taught topic from a genuine gap.

Bliss

Split school runs across the inner Dubailand and Al Barsha South campuses produce two arrival times in one household. For a DP2 physics student the later slot is the right one, because derivations attempted while tired teach the wrong lesson.

Caya

Journeys run toward Dubai Hills and Al Barsha, so the afternoon peak lands later. An 18:00 physics session is more productive from this side of the community, and it survives Ramadan better than an afternoon one.

June

Newer handovers where the room may still be in progress. The requirement is a charged calculator, a headset and a surface to write on; all the graph and circuit work happens on the shared board and is saved for the student afterwards.

Anya and Raya

The outer phases, with the longest car journeys in the community, which is why weekend mornings are requested most from here. For physics that is genuinely better: a full timed Paper 2 fits a Saturday morning and does not fit a Tuesday evening.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in Arabian Ranches 3

Diploma physics campuses used from Arabian Ranches 3

Each of these sets its own order of content delivery, its own mock window and its own investigation deadlines, which is the information a physics plan is actually built from. Two students in the same phase at different campuses can need opposite plans in the same month.

  • Nord Anglia International School Dubai, Al Barsha South
  • Dubai International Academy, Al Barsha
  • GEMS World Academy Dubai

British-route campuses where the physics decision starts at IGCSE

Most children in this belt sit IGCSE physics or a combined science award first, and that result is the best available evidence for whether Higher Level is realistic. Named as context for that decision only.

  • Jumeirah English Speaking School, Arabian Ranches
  • GEMS Metropole School, Motor City
  • Dubai British School Mira
  • South View School, Remraam
  • GEMS FirstPoint School, The Villa
  • The Aquila School, Dubailand

Schools are named as local context for families choosing a campus or planning a physics route. IB Gram has no affiliation with, and claims no endorsement from, any school or group named here.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Send the mock script, not the mock grade

The script can be read by topic, which separates physics the student does not know from physics they cannot express and from mathematics or presentation failures. The grade cannot. Where no script exists, the free first lesson produces one, which is why that session is spent on a paper rather than on introductions.

  2. 02

Tell us where the investigation stands

Question chosen, data collected, draft written, feedback received: those four states need completely different support, and the deadlines belong to the school rather than the IB. Knowing which one applies decides whether the first month is supervision, teaching, or both in alternating weeks.

  3. 03

One tutor proposed, with the level and topics named

A single match with the level they teach, which Higher Level topics they have taught most recently, their permit position and whether they are UAE-based. If coverage in your slot is thin you are told now rather than after a fortnight. No shortlist, because a shortlist hands the judgement back to the parent.

  4. 04

Data and uncertainty work in every session

Twenty minutes of uncertainty, gradient and graph work in every single lesson from the first one, regardless of the topic being taught. It is the component least amenable to being revised in a block and the one most reliably underprepared in DP physics, and weekly practice is the only thing that makes it fluent.

  5. 05

A fortnight of restraint before the papers

No new physics content in the final two weeks, by design. Definitions stated precisely, derivations rehearsed, units carried through, command terms answered at the right depth, and a one-page checklist the student writes themselves. Then the booking ends, on the date it said it would.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

The plan runs backwards from the exam window

Almost every deadline that matters in DP physics is set by the school: the investigation question, the data collection, the draft before the single permitted feedback round, the mock, the point after which no new content should land. All of them are knowable in September and almost nobody writes them down.

Fields is treated as the priority it is

Gravitational and electric fields is the most expensive Higher Level topic to catch up and the one most often met first in a mock, because schools teach it late. It is also the only topic where getting a few weeks ahead of the school's sequence reliably changes the mock rather than only the final paper.

Data work is weekly, not a revision block

Uncertainty, error bars, gradients and units behave like a skill rather than a topic. Twenty minutes in every session across two years produces fluency; a block in the final term produces recognition. It is the most reliably underprepared component in the subject.

The investigation is stage-gated and the honesty line is printed

Each stage has a deliverable and a named risk, and the published table says what a tutor may and may not do at each one. No tutor may write the report, design the method or supply data. One operator in this market sells completed internal assessments; stating the boundary is the student's protection.

No IB date is invented and no grade is promised

The IB's own site blocks automated checking, so no session or results date appears here and your coordinator is the source. Cambridge and Pearson dates elsewhere on this site are cited because those boards publish openly. What is claimed here is specific and testable: timing, command-term depth, definitions, sign discipline and the investigation.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Arabian Ranches 3: your questions answered

When should a DP physics student in Arabian Ranches 3 start the scientific investigation?+

Earlier than most schools' internal deadline requires, and the reason is recoverability. A question chosen in the third term of DP1 leaves room to discover it cannot produce a usable gradient and to choose another one. The same question chosen in the first term of DP2 competes with every other subject's coursework, so a failed first attempt at data collection becomes unrecoverable. The single permitted round of written teacher feedback is also worth protecting: a draft that arrives late wastes the most valuable input available anywhere in the component.

How many weeks before the exam window should physics revision properly begin?+

Topic revision should be finishing eight weeks out, not starting. In practice a DP2 student should be consolidating DP1 material from the autumn onward while the school is still delivering new Higher Level content, so that the final eight weeks can be spent on timed papers and technique rather than on first encounters. Confirm the actual window with your school's IB coordinator, because the IB's own site blocks automated checking and no session date in this project has been verified from the IB itself.

What should be finished before the winter break in DP2 physics?+

Two things. The investigation draft should be complete, because the permitted round of written feedback is the most valuable input in the component and it needs something to act on. And at least one full paper should have been sat under time in each written component, so the mock is not the student's first experience of the clock. A break with those two done is a break. A break with neither done means January starts with the work December was supposed to absorb, in a term that has no spare weeks.

Which Higher Level physics topics does a school usually teach last?+

Gravitational and electric fields, electromagnetic induction, thermodynamic cycles and the extended quantum and nuclear content, broadly in that order, with most of it landing in DP2 and some of it around or after the first full mock. That ordering is normal rather than a failing, and it explains a great deal about disappointing DP2 physics mocks. A script read by topic rather than by total will usually show the losses concentrated in whatever was taught most recently.

Can physics practical skills be taught properly when lessons are online?+

The assessed parts can, and the laboratory parts belong to the school in any arrangement. No private tutor runs a student's school practicals or supervises the investigation's data collection. What is assessed in writing is uncertainty, processing, graphing, interpretation and evaluation, and all of that is written work that a shared board shows better than a table does. The honest limitation is that a tutor cannot see whether apparatus was set up correctly, which is why the questions about range, repeats and instrument resolution get asked explicitly.

How should uncertainties and error bars be handled in the investigation?+

Decided and written down at the moment of measurement, never reconstructed afterwards. That single habit protects a whole band of marks, because a student with clean readings and no uncertainty estimates cannot carry out the processing the criteria expect. Set up the recording table before the first reading, with a column for the instrument resolution and a column for the estimated uncertainty. Error bars then follow from the data rather than being invented at the graphing stage, and the gradient's uncertainty becomes something the evaluation can actually discuss.

What does the data and practical section of the physics paper actually test?+

Experimental and data-handling skill rather than recall: reading and interpreting uncertainty, propagating it, drawing and using a gradient with its units, identifying systematic versus random effects, and judging a method. It behaves like a skill rather than a topic, which is why it is the most reliably underprepared component in DP physics. Twenty minutes of data work in every session across two years produces fluency. A revision block in the final term produces recognition, which is not the same thing under time pressure.

My son ran out of time in his first full physics paper. What should we do now?+

Treat it as the most useful piece of information from the whole mock. Running out of time means the marks lost are not a knowledge problem, which is good news, and it means the remedy is timed practice rather than content revision. The specific fix is sectional timing: a fixed allocation for the multiple-choice section, practised until it finishes with minutes spare, then the same for the extended-response paper. Three or four timed attempts usually change the distribution of marks without changing anything the student knows.

Can a tutor help with my daughter's physics investigation report?+

Within a clear boundary, yes. A tutor may question a proposed research question until she can defend it, teach the uncertainty and graphing technique she has chosen to use, read her own draft and name which criterion it falls short of and why, and teach the skill that gap reveals. No tutor may write any part of the report, design the method on her behalf, supply data, or edit the draft into a finished state. The school's teacher approves the proposal and gives the single permitted round of written feedback. The line protects her, not us.

Does Ramadan change how physics revision should be scheduled in Dubai?+

It changes the shape rather than the amount. School hours shorten and the household's usable study time moves after Iftar, so an afternoon slot that worked all autumn stops working. Three shorter sessions after Iftar generally achieve more in that month than two long ones in the afternoon, and the content should shift toward definitions, derivations and short data questions rather than full timed papers, which need an uninterrupted ninety minutes. Because the lesson runs over live video there is no journey to schedule around the new timing.

How much does an exam-year physics block cost in dirhams?+

As monthly figures, Bestimate's 2026 estimates put a weekly one-hour session at AED 600 to 1,200 in the middle band and specialist exam-year support at AED 1,000 to 2,000 or more, and an eight-week block at two sessions a week sits at the upper end by definition. Hourly, a qualified online subject tutor is published at AED 150 to 300, with Unitors listing IB from AED 200, and IB specialists at AED 200 to 450 and above with TutorChase quoting AED 270. Those are other providers' published numbers, cited so you can check them.

Is Higher Level physics required for medicine or engineering at UAE universities?+

Check each university's own published entry requirements, because they differ and they change. In general terms engineering programmes commonly expect physics and mathematics at the higher level, while medical programmes more often specify chemistry and biology with physics as one acceptable third subject. Those are patterns rather than rules, and a pattern is not something to build a Diploma on. The university's admissions page is the only source worth planning from, and the school's careers counsellor usually holds the current versions for the destinations their students apply to.

What can eight weeks of physics support genuinely change?+

Timing, command-term depth, definitions and derivations, sign discipline in field problems, and two Higher Level topics taught properly from the beginning. That is a real list and it moves marks. What it cannot do is deliver two years of content that was never learned, and any arrangement implying otherwise is selling hours. The test of whether it is working is a rising mark on a mixed paper the student has not seen before, not on a topic paper they have already practised, and that check should be run by week four rather than at the end.

Where should we get the current IB physics exam and results dates from?+

Your school's IB coordinator, and nowhere else. The IB's own site returns an error to automated checking, which means no exam or results date in this project has been confirmed from the IB directly, and none is published on this page for that reason. Cambridge and Pearson publish their timetables and key dates openly, which is why dates for those boards appear elsewhere on this site with the document they came from. Any tutoring page giving you a precise IB date without naming its source is guessing, and a plan built on a guessed date is worse than none.

What if no Higher Level physics tutor is free in our evening slot?+

You are told at the match stage rather than left waiting. Standard Level physics is reliably staffed on UAE evening hours; Higher Level is available but books out earlier in the term, and investigation supervision takes longer to match because it is matched to the experiment the student has designed rather than to the course. Where the tutor who fits is India-based rather than UAE-based, you are told before any payment and the time of the lesson does not change. Where nobody suitable is free, the answer is no with the reason given.

Send the mock script and tell us where the investigation stands

Those two things are enough to build a physics plan from. A script read by topic separates content the student has not met from physics they cannot express and from mathematics that is costing them marks, and the state of the investigation decides whether the first month is teaching, supervision or both.
