IGCSE Home Tutor in The Meadows

Parents in The Meadows searching for an IGCSE home tutor are usually asking a narrower question than the words suggest: is there anyone nearby who knows the exact syllabus my child is sitting? IB Gram answers that honestly. Lessons are one-to-one and delivered live online on Gulf Standard Time, not in your villa, because home visits are a service we run only in India. What you get instead is a tutor matched to the code printed on the entry form, 0580 or 4MA1, rather than the nearest available adult.

  • Syllabus code confirmed before the first lesson: 0580, 0625, 4MA1, 4PH1
  • One-to-one lessons over live video, scheduled in Gulf Standard Time
  • Free 45-minute trial with the tutor who would teach the term, no card needed
  • Change of tutor on request, at any point, with no notice period

IB & IGCSE in The Meadows

What a Meadows parent is really asking when they search for a home tutor

The phrase typed into Google is "IGCSE home tutor in The Meadows". The question underneath it is almost never about geography. It is: can I find somebody who has actually taught the paper my child is going to sit, and can I tell the difference between that person and a confident generalist? Distance is a proxy parents use because it is the only filter a search box offers. It is a poor proxy. A tutor nine minutes away in The Springs who last taught maths to a British Year 11 cohort in 2014 is a worse match than a Cambridge 0580 Extended specialist on a screen.

The Meadows sits inside Emirates Living, a villa community bounded by Sheikh Zayed Road, Al Khail Road and the Emirates Hills golf course. It is residential by design: there are no tuition centres inside the gates, and the nearest cluster of them sits in Al Barsha and Tecom, between twelve and thirty minutes away depending on which side of the 4pm school-run peak you leave. That geography is why in-home tutoring became the default here, and why its real cost is counted in evenings rather than dirhams.

IB Gram does not take part in that market. We do not send tutors to addresses in Dubai or anywhere else in the UAE; in-home visiting is a service our India operation runs, and saying so plainly is more useful than implying otherwise. What we do instead is match a student in Meadows 4 to the tutor who knows Pearson 4MA1 Higher tier, or Cambridge 0620 Extended, or First Language English 0990, and teach one-to-one over live video at a time that survives a 3:15 bell and a fifty-minute bus ride.

The rest of this page is written to make that choice checkable rather than persuasive. There is a table of the Cambridge and Edexcel codes for the subjects taught in schools around Emirates Living, so you can compare the code on your child's timetable against the tutor's claim. There is a table of what the Dubai market charges, attributed to the providers who published each figure. There is the Cambridge entry calendar counted backwards from the exam, because the deadline that actually traps families sits in November for a February exam.

There is also what a tutor may and may not do with coursework, what the MoHRE private tuition permit is and how to ask about it without being awkward, and what the Ministry of Education counts when a family eventually applies for certificate equivalency. None of that is marketing. All of it is the sort of thing you would otherwise discover three weeks before an entry deadline, from a WhatsApp group, in a form you cannot verify.

At a glance

  • Delivery is one-to-one live video, not a visit to a Meadows villa
  • Match is made on syllabus code and paper, not postcode
  • Market rates below are attributed to the provider who published them
  • Cambridge final entries for a February exam close the previous November
  • A tutor teaches and gives feedback on coursework; the student writes it
  • Private tuition in the UAE needs a MoHRE permit, issued free for two years
IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Schools around Emirates Living run three or four recognisable routes through the secondary years, and a tutoring plan only makes sense once you know which one your child is on. The notes below describe each route as it is actually timetabled in this part of Dubai, including where the handover points sit.

IGCSEAges 14-16 · Years 10-11

Cambridge IGCSE and Pearson Edexcel International GCSE

A two-year course assessed almost entirely by terminal written papers, with each subject entered separately and in some cases tiered. Most British-curriculum schools enter eight to ten subjects. Cambridge splits many syllabuses into Core and Extended, which cap at grade C and grade A* respectively; Pearson tiers maths into Foundation and Higher and leaves most other subjects single-tier. The tier decision is usually taken in Year 10 and is hard to reverse late.

British-curriculum schools inside and around Emirates Living, including Dubai British School Emirates Hills, Kings' School Al Barsha and Safa Community School, run IGCSE as the Year 10-11 qualification before students split towards A Level or the IB Diploma. Dubai's UK-curriculum sector accounted for 37 per cent of private-school enrolment in 2024-25, which is why this is the single busiest tutoring demand in the neighbourhood.

KS3Ages 11-14 · Years 7-9

Key Stage 3 and Cambridge Lower Secondary

The three years before IGCSE, where the content is broad and the assessment is internal. Cambridge Lower Secondary Checkpoint tests sit in March, May and October and are the first externally marked signal most families see. Weak algebra, unreliable scientific notation and an inability to structure a paragraph are all cheaper to fix here than in Year 11, because there is no entry deadline pressing on the work.

Families in The Meadows tend to arrive at tutoring in Year 11, which is the most expensive moment to arrive. A Year 8 student in Meadows 2 who cannot rearrange a formula will meet that gap again in 0580 Extended, in 0625 Physics and in 0455 Economics. One hour a fortnight at this stage replaces three hours a week two years later.

AS/AAges 16-18 · Years 12-13

AS and A Level

The most common post-16 route out of IGCSE in Dubai's British schools. Three or four subjects, linear or modular depending on the board, with Pearson offering modular assessment that lets a student bank units and Cambridge assessing most subjects at the end. For Ministry of Education equivalency on the British track, one A Level at grade E or two AS Levels at the same grade must be shown alongside the IGCSE count.

The IGCSE-to-A-Level step inside Emirates Living schools usually happens on the same campus, so parents assume continuity. The content jump in Maths and Physics does not respect that assumption: 0580 Extended rewards method marks, while A Level punishes unexplained steps. Students who coasted on a grade 7 at IGCSE are the ones who ask for help in the November of Year 12.

DPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

IB Diploma Programme

Six subjects across three Higher Levels and three Standard Levels, plus Theory of Knowledge, the Extended Essay and CAS. Internal assessment carries real weight in every subject, which changes the nature of tutoring from exam drilling to deadline management and feedback on draft work. The IB accounted for 7 per cent of Dubai private-school enrolment in 2024-25.

Emirates International School Meadows and Dubai International Academy Emirates Hills both run the IB continuum, so a family in Meadows 5 with two children can genuinely have one on IGCSE and one on the Diploma. The two need different tutors and different session rhythms, and parents who try to buy one solution for both usually end up paying for a compromise that suits neither.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

Every subject below is matched on the syllabus code, not the subject name. "IGCSE Physics" is three different courses depending on whether your child sits Cambridge 0625 Core, Cambridge 0625 Extended or Pearson 4PH1, and the papers, the practical assessment and the grade ceiling all differ.

Mathematics (Cambridge 0580 · Pearson 4MA1)

Core and Extended · Foundation and Higher

Two written papers, no coursework. Extended and Higher tier reach grade 9; Core caps at C and Foundation at 5. Marks leak in algebraic manipulation, in bearings and trigonometry in non-right-angled triangles, and in the last two parts of long structured questions where method marks are available but never claimed because nothing is written down.

Additional and Further Pure Mathematics (0606 · 4PM1)

Single tier

Taken alongside the main maths course by students heading for A Level Maths or Further Maths. Calculus, matrices, series and trigonometric identities arrive a year early. The common failure is treating differentiation as a rule to apply rather than a rate of change, which collapses the moment a question asks for a stationary point in context.

Physics (Cambridge 0625 · Pearson 4PH1)

Core and Extended · single tier at Pearson

Cambridge candidates sit three papers, including either a practical or an alternative-to-practical paper; Pearson assesses practical skills inside two written papers. Electricity and electromagnetism are where grades are made or lost, followed by anything requiring a graph to be read rather than drawn. Unit conversion errors cost more marks here than conceptual misunderstanding.

Chemistry (Cambridge 0620 · Pearson 4CH1)

Core and Extended · single tier at Pearson

Moles, electrolysis and organic reaction pathways account for most of the gap between a 6 and an 8. Students who can recite a definition often cannot apply it to an unfamiliar substance, which is exactly what the Extended paper tests. Practical method questions reward precise language about control variables and nothing else.

Biology (Cambridge 0610 · Pearson 4BI1)

Core and Extended · single tier at Pearson

The highest-content syllabus in the science group and the one students most often try to memorise whole. Transport in plants, homeostasis and inheritance are the usual weak points, and extended-response questions are marked on linked reasoning rather than keyword presence. Writing three correct facts in no logical order scores one mark out of four.

Co-ordinated Sciences (Cambridge 0654 · Pearson 4SD0)

Double award, Core and Extended

Two IGCSE grades from one timetable block covering biology, chemistry and physics. It is the route most students in Dubai take when they do not need three separate sciences, and it is frequently tutored badly because a biologist is asked to cover the physics content. Each discipline needs its own specialist hour.

First Language English (Cambridge 0500 · 0990 · Pearson 4EA1)

Single tier

Reading response and directed writing, with a composition component. The marks sit in selection and in control of register, not in vocabulary size. Students who write fluently but answer a different question than the one asked are the standard case, and the fix is a rehearsed reading routine rather than more practice essays.

English as a Second Language (Cambridge 0510 · 0511 · Pearson 4ES1)

Core and Extended

Reading, writing, listening and, at 0511, an assessed speaking component. For many families in Emirates Living this is the subject that decides whether a Year 11 report looks balanced. Tutoring works on exam-specific listening technique and on the summary task, which rewards compression and is almost never taught explicitly.

Economics (Cambridge 0455 · Pearson 4EC1)

Single tier

Two papers, with diagram accuracy carrying more marks than most students expect. Elasticity, market failure and the circular flow are the recurring difficulties. Eight-mark evaluation questions need a judgement supported by a condition, and answers that list advantages and disadvantages without concluding anything sit permanently in the middle band.

Business Studies (Cambridge 0450 · Pearson 4BS1)

Single tier

Case-study driven, which means marks go to candidates who use the stimulus material rather than general knowledge. Break-even analysis, cash-flow forecasts and motivation theory are the technical core. The most common lost marks are on application: a correct definition that never touches the business described in the case earns the definition mark only.

Computer Science (Cambridge 0478 · 0984)

Single tier

Theory paper plus an algorithms and programming paper. Pseudocode discipline, trace tables and an understanding of how data is represented are where the grade lives. Students who have written working Python often lose marks because the mark scheme wants a trace table completed row by row, not a correct final answer.

Geography and History (0460 · 0470 · 4GE1 · 4HI1)

Single tier

Both reward structured argument and specific case-study detail, and both punish generalities. Geography's skills paper needs confident map and graph work; History needs source evaluation that addresses provenance rather than content alone. These are the subjects where a weekly hour on technique moves a grade faster than content revision does.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three ways families in Emirates Living use one-to-one IGCSE tuition. All of them are live video, one tutor to one student, with the same tutor each week unless you ask for a change.

Weekly term-time hour

One or two fixed sessions a week running alongside school, holding the pace of the syllabus rather than chasing it. This is what works for a Year 10 student who is coping but drifting, and it is the cheapest form of help per grade moved because nothing has to be rebuilt from scratch.

  • Fixed weekday slot, chosen around the bus arrival time for your sub-community
  • Tutor works from your child's own school scheme of work and deadlines
  • Short written note after each session on what was covered and what to practise
  • Paused, not cancelled, during school trips and exam weeks

Exam-term intensive

A concentrated block in the eight to twelve weeks before a series, built around timed past-paper work and mark-scheme reading rather than new content. Two or three sessions a week, usually in a single subject, with the sessions scheduled against the school's own mock timetable so the two do not collide.

  • Timed papers sat under exam conditions, then marked against the published scheme
  • Error log kept by topic, so revision time goes where marks are actually lost
  • Explicit command-term work: state, describe, explain, calculate, evaluate
  • Session count agreed in advance and reviewed at the halfway point

Coursework and controlled-assessment feedback

Support for the assessed components your child must produce themselves: a Geography fieldwork write-up, an English coursework portfolio where the school offers one, a Computer Science programming task. The tutor teaches method, reads drafts and gives feedback against the criteria. The student writes every word that is submitted.

  • Criteria read and translated into plain language before drafting starts
  • Feedback on structure and evidence, never rewriting or editing to completion
  • Planning deadlines set backwards from the school's internal submission date
  • Plagiarism and AI-use rules explained in the terms your child's school applies

Holiday catch-up and transition blocks

Short runs over the long summer, the winter break or the spring holiday, used either to close a gap before a new year starts or to make a curriculum change survivable. The common cases here are CBSE or American curriculum to IGCSE, and Year 9 to Year 10 when a tier decision is imminent.

  • Diagnostic first session that produces a written gap list, not a sales call
  • Four to eight sessions in a block, scheduled around travel
  • Works across time zones when the family is out of the UAE for the summer
  • Ends with a handover note the next term's tutor or teacher can read

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in The Meadows

01

The search is for proximity; the problem is syllabus

  • Ask for the syllabus code and tier, not the subject name
  • Ask which papers the tutor has prepared students for, and when
  • Ask where marks are lost on that paper, and judge the specificity of the answer
  • Ask what the tutor will not do with coursework, and check the answer is a real boundary

An IGCSE home tutor in The Meadows is, for most families who search that phrase, the answer to a question about trust rather than distance. You want somebody who has taught the exact paper your child will sit, and distance is simply the only filter a search box offers. IB Gram matches that tutor and teaches one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time. We do not send tutors to addresses in the UAE; in-home visiting is a service our India operation provides. The trade you make is a narrower drive radius for a much wider pool of subject specialists.

Consider what the proximity filter actually returns. Emirates Living is a villa community with no tuition centres inside it, so the nearest available tutor is whoever happens to live in The Springs, The Lakes or Emirates Hills and advertises locally. The number of adults within a two-kilometre radius of Meadows 6 who have taught Cambridge 0620 Extended Chemistry to a Year 11 cohort within the last three years is small. The number who will say they can teach it is considerably larger. Geography does not help you tell those two groups apart, and that is the whole problem with searching by it.

Syllabus code does help. Ask for the code, not the subject: 0580 or 4MA1, 0625 or 4PH1, 0500 or 0990. Ask which papers the tutor has taught towards and which tier. Ask them to describe where candidates lose marks on that specific paper, and listen for whether the answer is about the paper or about motivation. A tutor who knows the assessment will talk about method marks, command terms and the alternative-to-practical paper. A generalist will talk about confidence. Both matter, but only one of them is the thing you cannot get from the school.

02

Find the code before you find the tutor

Every IGCSE entry your child's school makes carries a syllabus code, and that code is the most useful single piece of information a parent in The Meadows can hold. It is printed on the statement of entry the exams officer issues, usually in January or February for a summer series, and it is normally visible on the subject pages of the school's own curriculum booklet. If you cannot find it, the exams officer will tell you in one email. Nothing else about tutoring can be decided properly until you have it.

The code settles three things at once. It tells you the board, which determines the number of papers and how practical science is assessed. It tells you whether the subject is tiered, which sets the grade ceiling your child is working towards. And it tells a tutor which mark scheme to teach against, because Cambridge and Pearson reward different things in an extended answer even when the content is identical. A tutor who asks for the code in the first conversation is reading the assessment. One who does not is reading the subject name.

The table below lists the codes used by the subjects most commonly taken in schools around Emirates Living. Use it to check what you are told rather than to decide anything on its own: schools do change boards between cohorts, and a few run different boards in different subjects within the same year group. Verify against the statement of entry, and treat any mismatch as a question for the school rather than an error in the table.

Cambridge and Pearson Edexcel are not interchangeable

Parents in Emirates Living swap tutor recommendations across school gates and WhatsApp groups constantly, and the recommendation that travels rarely carries the board with it. That is how a family ends up paying for twelve weeks of Cambridge practical-paper technique for a child entered on Pearson 4PH1, where practical skills are assessed inside the written papers and there is no separate practical component to rehearse. The content overlap between the two boards is high. The assessment overlap is not, and tutoring lives in the assessment.

The differences that change a weekly plan are specific. Cambridge tiers many subjects into Core and Extended, with different papers and different grade ceilings; Pearson tiers maths into Foundation and Higher and leaves most other subjects single-tier, so the same conversation about ceilings does not apply. Cambridge allocates every exam centre to one of six administrative zones and publishes a timetable per zone, warning that it cannot accept responsibility for candidates who miss an exam after the wrong zone's timetable was used. Pearson runs a single international timetable with provisional versions published well ahead of each series.

The practical consequence for a Meadows family is that you should never let a tutor plan a term before confirming the board, and you should never accept a date for an exam from a tutor at all. Dates come from the school's exams officer and from the live timetable PDF on the board's own site, because provisional timetables are revised. Everything below the board-and-code line, from paper order to the way an eight-mark question is marked, follows from this one piece of information.

What home tuition costs around Emirates Living, counted by the month

Start with the figure that actually lands on a family budget, which is the monthly one. A single weekly hour with a mid-range qualified tutor is estimated by Bestimate's Tutoring Cost Dubai 2026 rate table at AED 600 to 1,200 a month, with budget options at AED 240 to 600 and specialist exam-year support at AED 1,000 to 2,000 or more. Published monthly packages in this market include AED 799 a month for eight online sessions and AED 1,599 to 1,799 a month for four two-hour in-home sessions. Those are the numbers to compare against each other, because they are the ones you will pay twelve times.

Convert them to hourly rates and the structure becomes visible. Online budget and university-student tutoring is advertised from AED 45 to 150 an hour, with EdFlik publishing AED 45 to 65 and Tutopiya AED 33 to 52. Qualified online subject tutors sit at AED 150 to 300, with Unitors publishing IGCSE from AED 150 and IB from AED 200. In-home one-to-one visits including travel run AED 180 to 500, on Bestimate's AED 180 to 350 band plus independent home tutors at AED 200 to 500. IGCSE and IB specialists are quoted at AED 200 to 450 and above, TutorChase at AED 270, and premium named tutors higher still, with BartyED published at AED 650.

Every figure in the table below belongs to the provider named beside it and was read from that provider's own published material in October 2026. None of them is an IB Gram price. We publish a free trial lesson and a consultation instead of a rate card, because the session length, the subject and the number of weeks change the answer, and a single number on a page for 2,654 neighbourhoods would be a fiction in most of them. What this table is for is calibration: it tells you whether a quote you have been given in The Meadows sits inside the market or outside it.

05

The three ways tutoring money is wasted in this neighbourhood

  • Ask what share of an in-home quote covers travel; the answer is informative either way
  • Buy one diagnostic session before any package of hours
  • Book exam-term support before the autumn term ends, not in the new year
  • Check whether the tutor will mark timed papers against the published scheme, or only teach content

The first is paying a premium for travel and calling it quality. An in-home rate of AED 350 an hour in Emirates Living is not AED 350 of teaching; a meaningful share of it is the drive, and the tutor has priced the drive because they cannot sell that hour to anybody else. The same money spent on an online specialist buys either more hours or a better-matched tutor. This is not an argument that in-home tutoring is worthless. It is an argument that you should know what portion of the invoice is petrol and traffic before you sign up for it.

The second is buying hours before buying a diagnosis. Families commonly book a package of ten sessions in a subject described as "weak", with no idea whether the weakness is content, technique or exam behaviour. A child who understands electricity but cannot read a question stem needs four sessions, not ten, and they need them on a different thing. A single diagnostic session that produces a written list of gaps by topic is the cheapest money in tutoring, and it is the step most often skipped because it feels like a delay.

The third is starting too late and then paying for panic. Demand for Year 11 tutoring in Emirates Living peaks in January and February, which is weeks before a summer series and months after the content gap opened. At that point you are competing for the same small pool of specialists as every other family on the same bus route, at the highest rates of the year, for the fewest available slots. Starting in Year 10, at one hour a week, costs less in total and works better, and nobody does it because in Year 10 nothing has gone visibly wrong yet.

06

The entry deadline sits months before the exam

The single most expensive administrative fact in IGCSE is that entries close long before the papers are sat, and that tier decisions are locked at entry. In the UAE the series are June and November; the February and March sitting is offered to India only, so it is the June calendar a Dubai family should be counting backwards from. Entries for June close in the spring, roughly four months before the first paper, with the exact date confirmed on the centre's statement of entry. Forecast grades are submitted on their own, earlier deadline. Results reach centres in August and certificates follow months after that. A family who decides in the final term of teaching that Extended was the wrong call is already well past the moment that decision could have been changed.

Read that calendar backwards and the tutoring implications are obvious. The Core-or-Extended conversation has to be settled before entries close in the spring, which means the evidence for it, mock results and marked past papers, has to exist through the autumn and winter terms rather than appearing in the weeks before the papers. The forecast grade a school submits is a professional judgement based on work it has already seen, so the period that influences it is the months before submission, not the weeks after. And the resit question, November series or move on, is decided in the days around August results, when parents are least prepared to decide anything.

Dates differ by board and by series, and Pearson publishes provisional timetables that are revised before they become final, so treat the table below as a worked example of the shape rather than a calendar for your child. The authoritative dates for your child's entries are the ones your school's exams officer holds, read against the live timetable PDF on cambridgeinternational.org or qualifications.pearson.com. For context on how long results take to travel: Pearson's June 2026 results reached centres on 19 August 2026 and students on 20 August, and November 2025 results reached students on 22 January 2026.

Is the tutor legally permitted to teach your child in Dubai?

Private tutoring in the UAE is permitted by licence, not by default. The private tuition work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023 and is administered by the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation. On u.ae the permit is described as granted free of charge for two years, and eligible applicants include teachers registered in government or private schools, employees in the government and private sectors, unemployed individuals, school students aged 15 to 18, and university students. Individuals offering private tutoring without a permit from MoHRE are subject to fines and penalties outlined in the applicable laws.

There are two things a Meadows parent should take from this. The first is that asking a prospective tutor whether they hold the permit is a normal, reasonable question, not an accusation; the permit is free and takes a stated two working days through MoHRE's smart app, website and e-services system under the service name Issuance of a New Work Permit - Private Tutor Licensing. The second is that no amount of fine has been published. Khaleej Times reported that the ministry did not specify the fine amounts or detail the penalties, so any figure circulating in a parents' group should be treated as rumour.

A related rule catches families who think they have found the perfect arrangement. Abu Dhabi's ADEK professional-ethics rules for private and charter school staff prohibit teachers from giving paid private tuition to students enrolled at their own school, and the MoHRE permit carries a code of conduct that also bars serving students affiliated with the permit holder's own school. Treat that as press-reported and verify it against the current policy document, but do not build a plan around hiring your child's own classroom teacher privately. A tutoring operation with premises and staff in Dubai is a different legal animal again, requiring a KHDA Educational Services Permit for a training institute. IB Gram is not such an institute, holds no KHDA permit, and does not describe itself as approved by any regulator.

Where IGCSE marks actually leak, subject by subject

  • Maths: unwritten method on multi-step questions
  • Physics: unit conversion, then reading values off a graph
  • Chemistry: applying definitions to unfamiliar substances
  • Biology: unlinked facts in extended-response answers
  • English: answering the adjacent question, not the set one
  • Economics and business: no conditional judgement in evaluation marks

Grades at this level are lost in predictable, diagnosable places, and naming them is more useful than any general promise about improvement. In maths, the leak is method marks on long structured questions: a student who writes only the final answer to a four-mark question and gets it wrong scores zero, where showing the rearrangement would have earned two. In physics, it is unit conversion and graph reading, in that order. In chemistry, it is applying a memorised definition to an unfamiliar substance, which is precisely what the Extended paper is built to test.

In biology, the leak is structure rather than knowledge. Extended-response questions are marked on linked reasoning, so three correct facts in no causal order score far below two facts correctly connected. In English, it is answering a question adjacent to the one asked, usually because the reading routine is unrehearsed. In economics and business studies, it is evaluation: an answer that lists advantages and disadvantages and declines to reach a conditional judgement sits permanently in the middle band, regardless of how much content it contains.

The reason this matters for choosing a tutor is that every item on that list is visible in a marked past paper and invisible in a conversation about confidence. A tutor working properly will keep an error log by topic and command term, will mark timed work against the published mark scheme rather than impression, and will be able to tell you in week three which of these failure modes your child actually has. If after a month nobody can tell you that, you are paying for company rather than teaching, and the honest move is to change tutor.

Five subjects at grade E or 3: what the Ministry counts

Families in The Meadows who intend their children to apply to UAE universities, or to need a UAE-recognised school certificate at any point, eventually meet Ministry of Education equivalency. On the British track the requirement reported by Gulf Today in July 2026 is that students pass five accredited subjects in GCSE or IGCSE certificates with a grade of no less than E or grade 3, and submit proof of one accredited subject at Advanced Level with a grade of no less than E, or two accredited subjects at Advanced Subsidiary Level with the same grade. Arabic and Islamic education are not included among the five required subjects.

That last clause is the one that surprises people, and at least one ranking tutoring site publishes the wrong subject count, stating that UAE candidates must take six IGCSE subjects. The sourced rule is five, excluding Arabic and Islamic education from the count. On the American track the same reporting sets English proficiency at an IELTS academic score of 5, 61 in the TOEFL iBT, or 450 in the SAT reading and writing section, with mathematics requiring at least 450 in the SAT Math test before applying. No IB points threshold appears in that source, so no IB figure is published here.

Two cautions belong with this. Equivalency is a process the Ministry runs, not something a tutoring service performs, applies for or guarantees, and nothing on this page should be read as a promise about an outcome of it. And tutoring is not a requirement for equivalency, university admission or school progression; anybody telling you otherwise is manufacturing urgency about a regulatory process. Verify the current rules on moe.gov.ae or with your emirate's attestation authority before planning around them, because reported requirements change and this page is a signpost rather than an authority.

Arabic, Islamic Education and Social Studies alongside IGCSE

A British-curriculum school in Dubai does not teach only the British curriculum. Arabic, Islamic Education and social or moral studies are mandatory in all Dubai private schools regardless of the licensed international curriculum, and KHDA's requirements were to be implemented by the start of the 2025-26 academic year, or April 2026 for schools whose year begins in April. Federally, private schools are not obliged to follow a specific curriculum beyond Arabic language, social studies and Islamic studies, but must adhere to the Ministry's general regulations. These subjects sit on your child's timetable in parallel with 0580 and 0620, and they take real hours.

KHDA's guidelines are specific about how they run. Schools must organise separate classes for Arabs and non-Arabs in Arabic as a first language, Islamic Education and Social Studies, and combined classes for both groups are strictly prohibited because of the different curriculum expectations and language of instruction. Standard Arabic is required as the main language of instruction for Islamic Education for Arabs and for Arabic as a first language; Social Studies is taught in Arabic for Arab students, and in the school's licensed-curriculum language for non-Arabs in Islamic Education and moral, social and cultural studies. Instructional time is calculated on a 40-minute lesson unit, and KHDA advises that any mandatory-subject lesson runs at least 25 minutes.

Two practical consequences follow for a tutoring plan in The Meadows. The first is timetable arithmetic: these lessons are part of why a Year 11 week has less free study time than parents expect, and a session plan that ignores them overbooks the child. The second is a constraint on content. For the mandatory UAE subjects, the use of any different or additional content without prior permission from the Ministry of Education is strictly prohibited, so support in these subjects means working within the school's own material rather than importing a parallel course. Schools are also required to ensure that teachers of Islamic Education and Arabic hold appropriate KHDA approval for those subjects, which is a credential question to ask the school rather than a tutor.

11

Starting from The Meadows, with the limits stated first

The honest version of getting started is short. You tell us the subject, the syllabus code and the year group, and the realistic weekday start time for your sub-community, because a Meadows 7 bus arriving at 4:20pm rules out a 4:30pm slot. We propose a tutor who has taught that code, and you take a free 45-minute trial with that same tutor, not with a sales consultant and not with a different teacher. No card details are required for the trial, and if the match is wrong you say so and we propose somebody else.

What can go wrong is worth stating in advance. The pool for common subjects at common times is deep, so a Cambridge 0580 Extended maths slot at 6pm is usually fillable within a few days. The pool for a narrow combination is not: a specific board, a specific tier, a late-evening slot and a niche subject together can take longer, and in the weeks before a series it takes longer still, because every family on the same bus route is asking at the same time. Where a UAE-based tutor is not available for a niche subject, the match may be an experienced IGCSE specialist teaching from elsewhere, on the same live video format and the same Gulf Standard Time slot. We say that before you book, not after.

What we will not do is also fixed. No tutor will promise a grade, because nobody can. No tutor will produce assessed work that must be your child's own; feedback on a draft is teaching, and anything beyond it is malpractice that puts the student's qualification at risk. No tutor will come to your villa in Emirates Living, because that is not a service we sell in the UAE. And nothing on this page claims approval, accreditation or partnership with KHDA, the Ministry of Education, MoHRE, the IB, Cambridge or Pearson, because IB Gram holds none of those and claiming one would be the fastest way to be the least trustworthy page in this search.

Where we tutor

Nearby areas we cover around The Meadows

The Meadows is nine numbered sub-communities with genuinely different commutes, and the areas immediately around it feed the same group of schools. Session timing is the practical consequence, so each note below says what it means for a weekday slot.

Meadows 1, 2 and 3

Closest to the Al Khail Road exit, so buses from Al Barsha schools unload earliest, often by 3:40pm. A 4:15pm start works on most weekdays here without the student eating in front of a screen.

Meadows 4 and 5

The middle of the community, with the longest internal bus loop. Arrival home is commonly 4:00 to 4:20pm, which makes 5:00pm the realistic earliest weekday session and 6:30pm the comfortable one.

Meadows 6, 7, 8 and 9

Backing onto the Emirates Hills side, with the tightest access during the afternoon school-run peak. Families here most often take later slots or weekend mornings, and for Year 11 that usually means Saturday 9am.

The Springs and The Lakes

Immediate neighbours inside Emirates Living, sharing buses and school allocations with The Meadows. Tutoring demand here skews slightly younger, with more Year 9 and Year 10 enquiries and fewer last-term exam blocks.

The Greens and The Views

Apartment communities across Sheikh Zayed Road, closer to Regent International School and the Marina. Shorter school runs mean an earlier session is possible, and bandwidth is generally stronger than in the older villa clusters.

Emirates Hills

Large plots, mostly feeding Dubai International Academy Emirates Hills and Dubai British School Emirates Hills. Enquiries here are more often Diploma than IGCSE, and more often coursework support than exam technique.

Al Barsha and Al Sufouh

Where most of the schools and nearly all of the tuition centres actually sit. A round trip from Meadows 7 to a Barsha centre at 4:30pm regularly runs to ninety minutes door to door, which is the real cost of a centre-based plan.

Jumeirah Village and Dubai Sports City

The next ring out, served by Sunmarke School and Arcadia School. Families straddling this boundary often pick a tutor on availability rather than location, which is the same decision an online match makes explicit.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in The Meadows

Inside Emirates Living and Emirates Hills

The schools a Meadows address most often sits in catchment for. Mixed curricula: two IB continuum schools, two British, which is why neighbours on the same street can be sitting completely different Year 11 qualifications.

  • Emirates International School Meadows
  • Dubai British School Emirates Hills
  • Dubai International Academy Emirates Hills
  • Regent International School, The Greens
  • Emirates International School Jumeirah

The Al Barsha, Al Sufouh and Al Safa corridor

Where the bus routes out of Emirates Living mostly go. These schools run the largest British-curriculum Year 11 cohorts in this part of Dubai, and between them account for most of the IGCSE entries behind enquiries from The Meadows.

  • Kings' School Al Barsha
  • Dubai College
  • Jumeirah College
  • GEMS Wellington International School
  • Nord Anglia International School Dubai
  • Repton School Al Barsha

The Al Barsha South, Motor City and JVT belt

The newer schools absorbing growth on the Al Khail side. Dubai's 2026-27 intake adds seven more private schools and 16,846 places across the emirate, and this belt is where much of that capacity is going.

  • Safa Community School
  • Dubai Heights Academy
  • Sunmarke School, Jumeirah Village Triangle
  • Arcadia School
  • GEMS Metropole School, Motor City

Schools are named to describe the local school context families in The Meadows actually deal with. IB Gram has no affiliation, partnership or endorsement relationship with any school named on this page.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Tell us the code, not just the subject

Send the subject, the syllabus code from the statement of entry, the tier if the subject is tiered, and the school. If you do not have the code, the exams officer will give it to you in one email. This single field removes most of the guesswork from matching and is the difference between a tutor who is right and one who is plausible.

  2. 02

    Agree a realistic weekday window

Tell us which part of The Meadows you are in and what time the bus actually arrives. Meadows 1 to 3 can often start at 4:15pm; Meadows 6 to 9 usually cannot start before 5pm in term time. Getting this right at the outset prevents the slow cancellation drift that kills most tutoring arrangements by week five.

  3. 03

Take the free trial with the actual tutor

A 45-minute one-to-one session over live video with the tutor who would teach the term, not a consultation. No card details are needed. Ask them where marks are lost on your child's specific paper and listen for whether the answer is about the assessment or about attitude. Both are fine; only one is hard to find.

  4. 04

    Get the diagnosis in writing

After the trial or the first paid session you should receive a short written list of gaps by topic and command term, not a general impression. This is what the plan is built from and what progress is measured against later. If nobody will put it in writing, that tells you something useful before you have committed to a package.

  5. 05

    Run weekly, review monthly

A fixed slot, the same tutor, a short note after each session on what was covered and what to practise. Once a month, compare the error log against the original gap list. If a named gap has not moved in four weeks, change the method or change the tutor; waiting for a term to end is the most common and most expensive mistake families make.

  6. 06

Plan the series, not the week

Mark the entry deadline, the mock window and the exam window on a calendar at the start, working backwards from the board's published dates as the school's exams officer holds them. Tutoring that is scheduled against that calendar does different things in October and in February, which is the whole point of having it.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

Matched on the paper, not the postcode

A tutor is proposed because they have taught the syllabus code and tier your child is entered for. Removing the drive radius from the search is what makes that possible: the pool stops being the adults who live within twenty minutes of Emirates Living and becomes the people who know Cambridge 0620 Extended.

Prices you can audit

Every AED figure on this page belongs to the provider named next to it and was read from that provider's published material in October 2026. None of them is our price. You can check each one yourself, which is more than any page currently ranking for this search allows you to do.

A stated boundary on coursework

A tutor teaches method, reads drafts and gives feedback against the published criteria. The student produces every word that is submitted. That boundary is written here because the alternative is sold openly in this market, and a student who buys it risks the qualification rather than the tutoring fee.

Calendar-aware from the first session

Entry deadlines, forecast-grade submission, exam windows and results dates all sit months apart, and a plan that ignores them optimises the wrong weeks. Sessions are scheduled against the board's published calendar as your school holds it, so October work and February work are genuinely different work.

Availability stated before you book

If no UAE-based tutor covers a narrow subject and tier at the time you need, you are told that before booking, along with what the alternative is. Concealing a coverage limit until after payment is standard in this market, and it is the single fastest way to lose a family's trust.

No regulator borrowed for credibility

KHDA, ADEK, SPEA, MoHRE and the Ministry of Education are described on this page because understanding them helps you. IB Gram is not approved, accredited or licensed by any of them, holds no KHDA training-institute permit, and operates no office in the UAE.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in The Meadows: your questions answered

Is there an IGCSE home tutor in The Meadows who will teach in our villa?+

Not through IB Gram. We deliver one-to-one IGCSE tuition over live video on Gulf Standard Time, and we do not send tutors to addresses in Dubai or anywhere in the UAE; in-home visiting is a service our India operation runs. Independent tutors and agencies in Dubai do visit Emirates Living, and the market rate for an in-home hour including travel runs roughly AED 180 to 500 depending on the provider. If an in-home arrangement is what you want, that is a legitimate choice and this page tells you what it costs. What we offer is a tutor matched to your child's syllabus code rather than to a drive radius.

Where on a school report would I find my child's IGCSE syllabus codes?+

The reliable place is the statement of entry, which the school's exams officer issues ahead of each series and which lists every subject with its board and four-character code. Many schools also print codes in the Key Stage 4 options booklet or on the subject pages of the curriculum guide. A termly report usually does not carry them. If you cannot find a code, one email to the exams officer naming your child and the series will produce it. Get this before you shortlist tutors: it decides the board, the number of papers, whether the subject is tiered and which mark scheme applies.

Are Cambridge IGCSE and Pearson Edexcel International GCSE the same qualification?+

They are equivalent qualifications from different awarding bodies, not the same course. Content overlaps heavily; assessment does not. Cambridge tiers many subjects into Core and Extended with different grade ceilings and, in sciences, sets a separate practical or alternative-to-practical paper. Pearson tiers maths into Foundation and Higher, leaves most other subjects single-tier, and assesses practical skills inside the written papers. Cambridge also allocates centres to one of six timetable zones, warning that the correct zone timetable must be used. For tutoring the difference is practical: the same topic is rehearsed differently depending on which mark scheme the student will be marked against.

Can my child sit different IGCSE subjects with different exam boards?+

Yes, and in Dubai it is common. Schools pick the board subject by subject, so a Year 11 student can sit Cambridge 0580 maths and Pearson 4PH1 physics in the same series. It is why collecting codes matters more than asking which board the school uses: the answer may be both. For tutoring it means one tutor covering two subjects needs to be fluent in two mark schemes, and that is a fair question to put directly in the trial lesson. The exams officer's statement of entry is the document that settles which board applies to which subject.

What does an IGCSE tutor charge per hour around Emirates Living?+

Published Dubai market rates in October 2026 ran roughly AED 45 to 150 an hour for budget or university-student online tutoring, AED 150 to 300 for a qualified online subject tutor, AED 180 to 500 for an in-home visit including travel, and AED 200 to 450 or more for an IGCSE specialist, with premium named tutors quoted higher. Those bands come from EdFlik, Tutopiya, Unitors, Bestimate's Tutoring Cost Dubai 2026 table, TutorChase and BartyED respectively. None is an IB Gram price; we offer a free trial lesson and a consultation instead of a rate card, because session length and subject change the answer.

Is a monthly tutoring package better value than paying per hour?+

It depends on whether you will use the hours. Monthly packages published in this market include AED 799 for eight online sessions and AED 1,599 to 1,799 for four two-hour in-home sessions, and Bestimate estimates AED 600 to 1,200 a month for a weekly hour with a mid-range tutor. A package is cheaper per hour and more expensive per hour actually taught, because unused sessions during school trips, exam weeks and travel rarely roll over. Ask what happens to a missed session before you compare the headline figures, and start with a short block rather than a term.

When does the entry deadline for an IGCSE exam series close?+

Months before the exam, which catches families out every year. For a UAE candidate the series is June, with November as the resit route, and Cambridge entries for June close in the spring - roughly four months ahead of the first paper, with the exact date held by your school's exams officer and printed on the statement of entry rather than announced publicly. Forecast grades are due on a separate, earlier deadline again. Pearson behaves the same way with its own dates and publishes provisional timetables for each series that are revised before they become final; its November 2026 International GCSE papers ran from late October to 19 November 2026. Your child's actual dates come from the school's exams officer, read against the live timetable PDF on the board's own site. The planning consequence is that tier decisions must be evidenced in the autumn term, not argued in the spring.

How do I check that a private tutor is permitted to work in Dubai?+

Ask them directly whether they hold the MoHRE private tuition work permit introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023. It is granted free of charge for two years, the official service is Issuance of a New Work Permit - Private Tutor Licensing on mohre.gov.ae with a stated two working days to complete, and eligible applicants include registered teachers, government and private-sector employees, unemployed residents, university students and school students aged 15 to 18. Individuals tutoring without a permit are subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws. No fine schedule has been published, so treat any amount quoted in a parents' group as rumour.

Should my child take Core or Extended for a Cambridge IGCSE subject?+

The honest answer is that it depends on evidence you should already have by the autumn term of Year 11, because the decision is locked at entry. Core caps at grade C and uses different papers; Extended reaches A* or 9. A student consistently scoring in the lower bands on Extended past papers may convert more marks on Core, and a student near the Core ceiling is being limited by the tier rather than by ability. Decide it on marked timed papers rather than on classwork impressions, with the subject teacher's view, and decide it before the entry deadline rather than after mocks.

How many IGCSE subjects does the UAE Ministry of Education count?+

On the British track, reporting in July 2026 set the requirement at five accredited subjects in GCSE or IGCSE certificates at a grade no lower than E or grade 3, with Arabic and Islamic education excluded from those five, plus one Advanced Level subject at grade E or two Advanced Subsidiary Level subjects at the same grade. One ranking tutoring site publishes six, which does not match the sourced rule. Equivalency is a Ministry process, not something a tutoring service performs or guarantees, and tutoring is not required for it. Verify the current rules on moe.gov.ae before planning around them.

My child is in Year 10 and coping. Is it too early for a tutor?+

Year 10 is the cheapest and most effective place to spend tutoring money, and almost nobody does it. One hour a week while the content is still being taught holds the pace of the syllabus instead of rebuilding it later, and it puts marked timed work in front of you in time to make the Core or Extended decision on evidence. Demand from Emirates Living peaks in January of Year 11, when rates are highest, specialists are booked and the gap is a year old. Starting early costs less in total and asks less of the student, which is the only argument that matters in Year 11.

Can one tutor cover maths, physics and English for the same child?+

Maths and physics together is a common and usually sound pairing, because the overlap in algebra, graph work and unit handling is real. Adding English to the same tutor is rarely a good trade: the assessment objectives, the mark schemes and the teaching methods have almost nothing in common, and a tutor comfortable across all three is more likely to be a generalist than a specialist. Two tutors for three subjects, splitting sciences from humanities, is the arrangement that usually works. It also makes progress attributable, because you can see which subject is moving.

What happens in the free trial before we commit to an IGCSE tutor?+

Forty-five minutes, one-to-one over live video, with the tutor who would teach the term rather than a consultant. The tutor works on something real, usually a past-paper question in the weak topic, and the purpose is for you and your child to judge the fit while the tutor forms a first view of where the marks are going. No card details are required to book it. Useful questions to ask at the end: which paper does this topic appear on, where do candidates lose marks on it, and what would the first four sessions cover? Vague answers are informative.

Is an online lesson weaker than a tutor sitting beside my child?+

For one-to-one IGCSE work the format matters much less than the match. A shared screen with a graphics tablet shows working line by line, past papers can be annotated live, and the session recording or written note lets a parent see what happened without being in the room. What online removes is the travel premium and the drive radius, which is what lets a family in Meadows 8 work with a specialist in a specific syllabus rather than the nearest available tutor. Where face-to-face genuinely wins is with very young children and with students who need physical supervision to stay on task.

What if nobody covers the IGCSE subject we need, like Business Studies?+

You are told before you book, with the alternative named. Common subjects at common times fill within a few days. A narrow combination of board, tier, niche subject and a late evening slot can take longer, and in the weeks before a series everything takes longer because demand across Dubai peaks at once. Where no UAE-based tutor covers a niche subject, the match may be an experienced IGCSE specialist teaching from outside the UAE on the same live video format and the same Gulf Standard Time slot. Disclosing a coverage limit up front is the whole point; concealing it until after payment is the market norm.

Can a tutor help with a Geography fieldwork write-up without breaking the rules?+

Yes, within a boundary that should be stated before the work starts. A tutor may explain the assessment criteria in plain language, teach the methods, discuss the data, read a draft and give feedback on structure, evidence and clarity. The student plans, writes and submits every word themselves. No tutor should produce, rewrite or edit assessed work to completion, because the qualification belongs to the student and malpractice puts that qualification at risk rather than the tutoring fee. Ask any prospective tutor where their line sits; a tutor who cannot describe one is a risk to your child.

Get the syllabus code, then get the right tutor

If you take one thing from this page, make it the code. Ask the exams officer for your child's statement of entry, note the board and the four characters beside each subject, and use them to interrogate every tutor you speak to, including ours. Then tell us the code, the year group and what time the bus actually reaches your part of The Meadows, and take the free 45-minute trial with the tutor who would teach the term. Lessons are one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time. If the match is wrong, say so and we will propose somebody else.
