IB Home Tutor in The Meadows

Searching for an IB home tutor in The Meadows is a request about logistics as much as teaching: somebody competent, in the villa, in the gap between the bus and dinner. This page accounts for that hour honestly - what the travel premium in Emirates Living actually buys, what happens when a lesson has to move - and then says plainly that IB Gram delivers this as one-to-one tuition over live video, timed to Gulf Standard Time.

IB & IGCSE in The Meadows

Accounting for the hour before arguing about the format

A Meadows parent asking for a home tutor is solving a real problem. The villa is quiet, the child is already there, nobody has to drive anywhere at half past four, and the whole thing fits inside the one window the family has. That is a sensible thing to want, and the usual response from tutoring companies - a paragraph about how online is just as good - does not engage with it. So before any argument about format, here is the hour itself, broken into what a household is actually paying for.

A visiting tutor's hour is not sixty minutes of teaching. It is sixty minutes of teaching plus a round trip, and in this part of Dubai that round trip is typically twenty to forty minutes depending on which direction they come from and what Al Khail Road is doing. Somebody is paying for that time, and it is either the tutor, by earning less per hour of work, or the family, through a higher rate. The published figures show which: in-home one-to-one in Dubai is quoted at AED 180 to 500 an hour with travel included, with Bestimate's 2026 rate table at 180 to 350 and independent home tutors at 200 to 500. Named IB specialists teaching online are quoted at AED 200 to 450 and above, with TutorChase at AED 270.

Those two bands overlap almost exactly, and that is the whole argument in one line. At AED 300 an hour a Meadows family is choosing between a journey and a specialism. The teaching hour is the same length either way. The question is whether the money buys somebody who happened to be within driving distance, or somebody who has taught Chemistry at Higher Level to examination for nine years and lives wherever they live.

So the honest statement, stated early because burying it would be dishonest. IB Gram does not send tutors to homes in Dubai or anywhere else in the UAE. Home visits are a service offered only in India. Every UAE lesson is one-to-one over live video, in Gulf Standard Time, with a shared whiteboard and a written summary afterwards. That is not a lesser version of what you searched for; it is a different allocation of the same money, and the rest of this page sets out where that allocation wins and where it genuinely costs you something.

What follows is written from the Meadows evening outwards: the villa and the gate, what happens when a lesson has to move, how big the local tutor pool really is in each subject, the sibling problem that two children in one villa create, when in the Dubai academic year the load should rise, and how a parent sees progress without sitting in the room. None of it is a sales argument dressed as information. Where the online format is the weaker option, the page says so.

IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

A Meadows household usually has more than one programme running at once, because the community feeds both an IB campus and several British-curriculum schools. These are the stages this page covers.

MYPAges 11-16 · MYP 1-5

IB Middle Years Programme

Assessed against four criteria per subject, each marked out of eight, with no external examination in most years. Support here is usually a short block on one weak criterion rather than a standing weekly commitment, and it schedules more easily into a Meadows evening than Diploma work does.

Emirates International School Meadows sits inside the community, so a large share of this neighbourhood's middle-years students share one internal calendar for projects and reports. That makes sibling scheduling easier here than in areas where every child is on a different school's deadlines.

DPAges 16-19 · DP1 and DP2

IB Diploma Programme

Six subjects, three at Higher Level, plus the Extended Essay, Theory of Knowledge and internal assessments in most subjects. The components that need support most are the ones with no timetabled teacher attached, and they do not fit a short weekday slot comfortably.

A Diploma student in The Meadows is usually home between 15:30 and 16:00 if they attend the campus inside the community, and later if they travel to Al Barsha or Al Sufouh. Sixth-formers generally prefer a 19:00 slot, because their study time is already self-directed.

IGCSEAges 14-16 · Years 10-11

IGCSE alongside the IB

Many Meadows households run an IB child and an IGCSE child in the same week, because the villas sit between an IB campus and several British schools. Cambridge and Pearson syllabus codes decide who the right tutor is, and the two boards set different papers for the same subject.

The practical effect in this community is two different sets of internal deadlines, two reporting formats and two sets of holidays that do not always align. Families who map both calendars onto one page in September find the rest of the year considerably easier to schedule.

COREAges 16-19 · Across DP1 and DP2

The Diploma core

The Extended Essay, Theory of Knowledge and the internal assessments together account for a substantial part of the final result and almost none of the timetable. Supervision, questioning and feedback on the student's own drafts is legitimate work here; producing any part of it is not.

The dates that actually govern core work are the school's internal deadlines, which sit well before anything external because the school must supervise and authenticate submissions. Ask the coordinator for those dates in September of DP1 rather than waiting for them to arrive.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

These are the IB subjects Meadows families most often request, with what each one assesses. The list is here because it is also the answer to how large the local tutor pool is in each case.

Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches

HL and SL

Algebraic, proof-oriented, with a non-calculator paper at both levels. Higher Level adds proof by induction, complex numbers, Maclaurin series and differential equations. The most requested subject in this community and the one with the deepest local pool.

Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation

HL and SL

Modelling and statistics with a calculator expected throughout, plus matrices, graph theory and Voronoi diagrams at Higher Level. A genuinely different specialism from Analysis and Approaches, and a much thinner pool at Higher Level.

Chemistry

HL and SL

Organic mechanisms, equilibrium and energetics carry most of the lost marks, with the scientific investigation assessed against its own criteria. Higher Level specialists are among the scarcest in Dubai, which is the clearest case for a wider pool.

Physics

HL and SL

Equation selection, unit discipline and multi-step calculation, with an investigation that most students underestimate. Higher Level physics requests in Emirates Living regularly cannot be filled from within a short driving radius.

Biology

HL and SL

Command-term precision and data-based questions decide the grade more than content recall does. A deeper local pool than physics or chemistry, which makes it one of the subjects where proximity genuinely costs least.

Economics

HL and SL

Diagram accuracy, evaluation structure and the internal assessment commentaries. Higher Level adds quantitative work that catches students who chose it expecting an essay subject.

English A: Language and Literature

HL and SL

The individual oral, the comparative essay and the paper on unseen texts. Marks turn on handling a text under time pressure rather than on having read widely, which is a trainable skill.

Business Management

HL and SL

Case-study application and the research project. Students lose marks defining terms instead of applying them to the organisation in front of them, which is a structural habit rather than a knowledge gap.

Arabic and other languages

Ab initio, B SL and HL

Phase and route matter more than year group. Dubai private schools also teach Arabic as a mandatory subject separately from any IB language course, and the two have different expectations.

Theory of Knowledge

Core, all Diploma students

An exhibition and an essay on a prescribed title, with almost no timetabled teaching in many schools. Support is questioning and feedback on the student's own thinking, and it is one of the most commonly requested core components in this community.

The Extended Essay

Core, all Diploma students

Four thousand words of independent research with a supervisor at school whose time is limited. A tutor may discuss the research question, explain the assessment criteria and comment on drafts the student has written; nothing more than that.

Internal assessments across subjects

HL and SL

Each subject has its own criteria, word limits and internal deadline. These are the components where a Meadows family most often discovers in February that something substantial was due, which is a scheduling problem before it is an academic one.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three arrangements cover almost everything a Meadows household asks for. They differ in how much of the evening they claim, which in a villa with two children is the binding constraint.

One protected weekday slot

Sixty or ninety minutes at a fixed time, held for the term and treated as non-negotiable. The arrangement that survives a Dubai exam season, because it only asks the household to defend one evening against football, Arabic practice and homework.

  • Fixed day and time, same tutor each week
  • Written summary after every lesson
  • Moves to a post-iftar hour during Ramadan rather than pausing
  • Continues unchanged while the family travels

Two children, consecutive slots

Back-to-back lessons on one evening for two children, often in different programmes. The point is not the discount; it is that one evening is spent instead of two, which in a villa with one quiet room is the difference between a plan that works and one that collapses in November.

  • Consecutive hours, two specialists, one evening
  • Works across IB and IGCSE in the same household
  • One quiet room used twice rather than two rooms at once
  • Keeps four weekday evenings completely free

A Saturday core block

Ninety minutes to two hours on a Saturday morning for the Extended Essay, Theory of Knowledge or an internal assessment. These need a longer uninterrupted stretch than a weekday hour allows, and Saturday morning is the most reliable block in a Dubai week.

  • Longer block for drafting and review work
  • Scheduled against the school's internal deadlines
  • Feedback on the student's own drafts only
  • Survives the examination term better than weekday evenings

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in The Meadows

01

The hour accounted for: what a visiting tutor's fee actually covers

Begin with the arithmetic rather than the argument. A visiting tutor leaves somewhere, drives to Emirates Living, teaches, and drives away. From Al Barsha or Al Sufouh, the directions most tutors come from, that is a twenty to forty minute round trip in the late afternoon, longer on a bad day at the Al Khail interchange. The teaching is sixty minutes. The tutor's working block is ninety to a hundred, and somebody pays for the difference.

The published rates show who. In-home one-to-one tutoring in Dubai is quoted at AED 180 to 500 an hour with travel included, with Bestimate's 2026 Dubai table at 180 to 350 and independent home tutors at 200 to 500. Monthly in-home packages in this market run AED 1,599 to 1,799 for four two-hour sessions. Online named specialists are quoted at AED 200 to 450 or more, with TutorChase at AED 270. Qualified subject tutors online sit at AED 150 to 300, with Unitors publishing IB from AED 200. Budget online is advertised from AED 45 to 65 by EdFlik and AED 33 to 52 by Tutopiya. Premium named tutoring reaches AED 650 with BartyED.

Set the in-home band against the online specialist band and the overlap is almost complete. That is the finding worth sitting with. It means the travel premium in Dubai does not buy better teaching; it buys the same length of teaching from a smaller pool of people, selected partly on where they live. For a subject with a deep local pool that costs a family very little. For Higher Level Chemistry or Applications and Interpretation at Higher Level, it can cost them the specialist entirely.

All of those figures are other providers' published rates, read in October 2026, reproduced here so a Meadows family can judge any quote they receive from anybody. None of them is IB Gram's price list. Our own conversation starts with a free trial lesson and an honest estimate of how many hours the diagnosis justifies.

The villa, the gate and the driver: logistics nobody publishes

  • Gate access becomes a recurring household task, not a one-off
  • The quiet room is claimed for longer than the lesson itself
  • A visiting tutor's route makes small schedule changes expensive
  • An online slot can move by half an hour without disrupting anybody else

Several practical details decide whether a home-tutoring arrangement survives its first term in Emirates Living, and no tutoring company writes them down. The first is access. Villa communities have gates and visitor procedures, and a tutor arriving at 17:00 four times a month becomes a recurring administrative item for the household rather than a single booking. It is minor, until it is the third Tuesday somebody has had to be at home to let someone in.

The second is the room. A Meadows villa usually has somewhere a lesson can happen without the rest of the family vacating the ground floor, which is a genuine advantage over a townhouse in The Springs. But that room has to be given over for ninety minutes plus greeting and leaving time, and in a household with two children it is the same room both of them need.

The third is the person. A visiting tutor is somebody in the house, and that comes with ordinary considerations about who is home, which adult is present and what the expectations are. Families handle this sensibly and it is rarely a problem, but it is part of the real cost of the arrangement and it is never mentioned in a price list.

The fourth is the thing most families do not anticipate: what happens to the arrangement when the tutor is the constraint. A visiting tutor has a route, and a route has a shape. If the 17:00 slot in The Meadows sits between a 16:00 in Al Barsha and an 18:30 in The Springs, the family cannot move to 17:30 without disrupting two other households. Online scheduling has no route, so a slot can shift by half an hour when a mock timetable changes without anybody renegotiating a week.

03

What happens when a lesson has to move

Over a school year in Dubai, lessons move. A mock timetable lands, a child is unwell, a flight home from a half term is delayed, a school trip appears, a sibling has a fixture. The question that decides whether a tutoring arrangement lasts is not what happens on a good week; it is what happens on the fourth cancelled one.

For a visiting arrangement, a late cancellation has already cost somebody a journey, and the policies reflect that: notice periods are longer, and a missed lesson is more often simply lost. The tutor has usually blocked the surrounding travel time as well, so a rescheduled slot has to fit a route rather than a diary. None of that is unreasonable - the tutor's cost is real - but it is a constraint the family carries.

For an online arrangement the calculation is different in both directions. A lesson cancelled at short notice costs nobody a drive, so it is easier to move within the same week. A lesson can also happen when it otherwise could not: a student home with a cold who is well enough to work, a family already away for a long weekend, a half term spent in the UK. Those are not hypothetical savings; across a two-year Diploma they are the difference between twenty-eight lessons and thirty-four.

The honest counterpoint belongs here too. Online lessons are easier to cancel, which means a household with weak follow-through can let an arrangement decay more quietly than they could if somebody were due at the door. That is a real risk and the answer to it is structural: a fixed slot, treated as fixed, with a written summary each week that a parent actually reads. Families who protect the slot get the benefit; families who treat it as optional get the drift.

WHEN A LESSON HAS TO MOVE - THE TWO MODELS COMPARED

04

How big the local pool really is, subject by subject

This is where the proximity question becomes concrete rather than philosophical. For a Diploma subject with a deep pool - Biology at Standard Level, Mathematics Analysis and Approaches at Standard Level, English A - a family in The Meadows can reasonably expect to find somebody competent willing to drive, and the cost of insisting on proximity is close to zero. For a narrow combination, insisting on proximity means choosing between the wrong specialist nearby and no specialist at all.

The thin ones are predictable: Chemistry at Higher Level, Physics at Higher Level, Applications and Interpretation at Higher Level, Economics at Higher Level in a mock season, Theory of Knowledge, and any language beyond the common ones. These are the subjects where the entire argument for a wider pool lives, and a family that has met this wall knows exactly what it feels like: three polite refusals and a suggestion to try again in September.

No competitor page examined in this market discloses a coverage limit of any kind. Several route UAE parents to non-UAE phone numbers while implying local delivery, which is the same information withheld rather than given. The useful version is to say it plainly: here is which subjects fill easily, here is which do not, and here is what happens when yours does not.

What happens, specifically, is that we say so and offer a specialist elsewhere teaching in your Gulf Standard Time slot at the same rate, or a different hour with the right person, or an honest wait with an estimate. What we will not do is put an available but unsuitable tutor into a booked slot, because that is how a family concludes that tutoring does not work when what actually happened was a bad match sold as a good one.

Two children, one villa, one evening

  • Two consecutive slots, two specialists, one evening, one room used twice
  • One tutor across two curricula is usually a compromise on the second child
  • Map both schools' internal deadlines onto one page in September
  • The transition-year child is the cheaper intervention, not the examination-year one

The Meadows generates a particular scheduling problem more often than most Dubai communities, because the villas sit between an IB campus inside the neighbourhood and several British-curriculum schools a bus ride away. The result is households with a Diploma student and a Year 10 or Year 11 sitting IGCSE, on two different reporting calendars, with two sets of internal deadlines and two sets of holidays that do not always align.

With a visiting tutor, two children means either two visits or one tutor stretching across two curricula. The first costs two journeys and two evenings. The second sounds efficient and usually is not: the person who is genuinely good at Diploma Chemistry internal assessments is not necessarily the right person for Cambridge 0620 Extended paper technique, and a tutor who accepts both is often accepting the second to keep the first.

The arrangement that works in practice is two consecutive slots on one evening with two different specialists. One quiet room is used twice rather than two rooms at once, one evening is spent rather than two, and each child gets somebody matched to their actual qualification. This is straightforward to organise when nobody has to drive between the two lessons, and awkward when they do.

The second sibling pattern worth planning for is the transition year. When the older child is in DP2 and the younger is in MYP 5, the household has a high-stakes examination year and a transition year happening simultaneously, and the natural instinct is to put everything into the older one. The cheaper decision is usually six to ten lessons for the younger child in the summer, which prevents the first term of DP1 or Year 10 becoming next year's crisis.

06

The Dubai academic year, and when the tutoring load should rise

Families tend to buy tutoring when a report arrives, which means demand across Dubai spikes in November and February and the right tutors are hardest to get at exactly those moments. The calendar argues for a different pattern, and knowing it is worth real money in a community where the same specialists serve several hundred households.

The shape of the year in a Dubai private school is a long first term to mid-December, a second term with a half term and a spring break, and a third term ending in late June or early July. Ramadan moves within that and shortens the school day while it lasts. The long summer is the single largest uninterrupted block available to any student in a two-year course.

Where the load should rise is at the transitions and immediately after diagnostic information arrives. The fortnight after mock results is the highest-yield period in the whole year, because the school has already done and paid for the diagnosis and the student is briefly motivated to act on it. Study leave is the second, because a Year 11 or DP2 student has whole days and no supervision. The summer before a new course is the third, and the cheapest of the three.

Where it should not rise is in the final three weeks before papers, which is when most families try. By then the useful work is narrow and self-directed, the tutor pool is fully booked, and adding hours tends to raise anxiety rather than marks. A Meadows household that books the fortnight after mocks instead of the fortnight before papers typically spends less and gets more, and gets the tutor it actually wanted.

07

Seeing progress without being in the room

  • A written summary after every lesson, specific enough to be checked
  • Before-and-after samples of the student's own marked work at four lessons
  • Independent evidence from the school, not the parent's impression of the tutor
  • A warm lesson is not evidence, in either format

One honest advantage of a tutor in the house is that a parent overhears the lesson. You can tell from the kitchen whether the hour was serious. Remove that and something real is lost, so it has to be replaced with something deliberate rather than waved away.

What replaces it is written. Each lesson ends with a short summary: what was covered, what the student could and could not do, and what they should practise before next week. That document is more useful than overhearing, because it is specific and because it accumulates - after eight weeks a parent can read back and see whether the same weakness keeps reappearing. Overhearing tells you the tone of one hour; a run of summaries tells you the shape of a term.

The second replacement is the student's own marked work. The point of a lesson is a change in what the child produces on paper, so the evidence is a piece of their writing or working from before and a piece from after. Ask for that comparison at four lessons. If the tutor cannot produce it, the lessons have been conversations.

The third is the school. A parents' evening comment, a criterion mark, or a question-level analysis of a mock is independent evidence that nobody in the tutoring arrangement controls. Families who check tutoring against school data rather than against their own impression of the tutor make better decisions, and they stop paying for arrangements that feel good and change nothing. That applies equally to a visiting tutor, incidentally; a warm hour in the dining room is not evidence either.

08

Why a screen is easier to keep honest than a dining table

  • Assessed work must be the student's own; a tutor questions and reviews
  • A tutor must never write an Extended Essay or an internal assessment
  • Screen-shared drafting in the student's own document leaves a clearer trail
  • Ask where the line sits before the first lesson and listen to the wording

There is one place where the online format is clearly stronger on academic integrity, and it deserves saying because this market has a real problem. The IB's rules require that assessed work - the Extended Essay, Theory of Knowledge essay, internal assessments - is the student's own. A tutor may discuss a research question, explain the criteria, question the reasoning and comment on a draft the student has written. A tutor must never write the essay, dictate paragraphs, or edit a piece to completion.

Providers in this market cross that line commercially. One sells completed Internal Assessments at four-figure prices. That is not a shortcut with a small risk attached; it is a malpractice trigger that falls on the student, whose entire Diploma is exposed, and not on the company that took the fee.

Where the format matters is in what is visible. A tutor and a student at a dining table with one laptop can produce a document whose authorship nobody can later reconstruct, and the parent two rooms away cannot tell the difference between coaching and composing. A screen-shared session where the student types in their own document, and where each lesson ends with a summary of what was discussed rather than what was produced, leaves a clearer trail. That is not a guarantee of anything - a determined family can misuse either format - but it makes the honest version easier to run and the dishonest version harder to hide.

Ask any prospective tutor, in either format, exactly where they draw this line on an Extended Essay. The answer takes thirty seconds and it is the most informative question available to a parent. Somebody who says they help polish it until it is ready has told you what they do.

09

Starting from The Meadows, and the sentence we will not write

  • School, year, bus time and committed evenings, before any subject talk
  • Internal deadlines from the school for core and assessment work
  • A free trial lesson ending in a written diagnosis
  • Online-only delivery, disclosed coverage limits, no accreditation or grade claims

The practical sequence is short. Tell us which school and which year each child is in, what time the bus reaches your part of The Meadows, and which evenings are already committed. Name the subject and level, and the specific component that is failing if you know it. Ask the school for the internal deadlines on any core or internal assessment work. Then take the free trial lesson, which is sixty minutes of real teaching ending in a written note of what the tutor found.

Three things get said before anybody pays. First, delivery: lessons are one-to-one over live video in Gulf Standard Time. IB Gram tutors do not travel to addresses in Dubai or anywhere else in the UAE, because home tutoring is a service offered only in India. We will not write the sentence promising somebody at your door, in any wording, because it would be untrue.

Second, coverage. Some combinations of subject, level and hour cannot be filled from the UAE-based pool, and the thin ones are predictable: Higher Level Chemistry and Physics, Applications and Interpretation at Higher Level, Theory of Knowledge supervision, and less commonly taught languages. When yours is one of them we say so and offer a specialist elsewhere in your time slot at the same rate, a different hour, or an honest wait with an estimate.

Third, claims. IB Gram holds no accreditation from the IB or from KHDA and does not present itself as holding one; a provider in this market claiming board approval for its tutors is making a claim worth questioning closely. No tutor can guarantee a grade. And on assessed work the line does not move: a tutor must never write the Extended Essay or the internal assessment, whatever the deadline looks like.

Where we tutor

Nearby areas we cover around The Meadows

The Meadows is nine villa communities inside Emirates Living, and the practicalities change between them and their neighbours. These are the areas this page serves.

The Meadows 1 to 3

Nearest the Emirates International School Meadows campus, so school runs are short and a 16:15 slot is realistic. Villas here usually have a room that can be a study, which makes a longer session workable.

The Meadows 4 to 6

The middle of the community, mostly on bus routes to the Al Barsha and Al Sufouh ring. Arrival home clusters around 16:00 to 16:30, which makes 17:00 the dependable weekday slot.

The Meadows 7 to 9

Furthest from the main gates and usually last on the bus loop. Families here more often take a 17:30 weekday slot or a Saturday morning block for Extended Essay and internal assessment work.

The Springs

Townhouses rather than villas, immediately adjacent and sharing the same bus contractors. Study space is tighter, so the scheduling conversation there is about where in the house rather than when.

The Lakes

Larger plots, long-settled families and a tilt towards the Emirates Hills school ring. Requests here skew towards Higher Level subject specialists rather than general Diploma support.

The Views and The Greens

Apartments on the Sheikh Zayed Road edge with Regent International School in the ring. A fixed quiet hour matters more than lesson length for a student working at a bedroom desk.

Emirates Hills

The shortest school run in the cluster, with two well-known campuses on its boundary. Also where the local tutor pool is thickest, which is why proximity feels like less of a constraint there.

Al Barsha, Al Sufouh and Dubai Marina

Where many Meadows children actually go to school, and the direction most visiting tutors would drive from. A fifteen-minute map distance becomes a thirty-minute round trip at five o'clock.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

    Describe the evening

Which school each child attends, what time the bus reaches your part of The Meadows, which evenings are already committed, and whether the quiet room is needed by more than one child. This conversation designs the schedule that will still be running in March.

  2. 02

Name the subject, level and component

Not just Chemistry, but Chemistry Higher Level and the investigation, or Mathematics Analysis and Approaches and the non-calculator paper. The narrower the request, the better the match and the fewer hours it takes.

  3. 03

    Collect the internal deadlines

The school's own dates for internal assessments, the Extended Essay and Theory of Knowledge. These sit well before anything external and they govern the whole plan, so ask the coordinator rather than waiting for them to arrive.

  4. 04

    Free trial lesson

Sixty minutes of teaching on the student's own work, ending with a written note: what the tutor saw, whether the cause is content, technique or timing, and how many lessons that justifies. The note is the basis of the quote.

  5. 05

Protect the slot, then review it

A fixed day and time, defended against fixtures and activities, with a written summary each week. At four lessons, compare a new piece of the student's marked work against the plan and decide whether to continue, switch or stop.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

The hour is accounted for in writing

Teaching time, travel time and who absorbs it are set out with published rates attached, so a Meadows family can see exactly what a travel premium buys before deciding whether to pay one anywhere.

Matched on subject and level, not driving distance

The tutor pool is everybody available in your Gulf Standard Time slot rather than everybody willing to drive into Emirates Living at five o'clock. For Higher Level Chemistry or Physics that is the difference between a specialist and a generalist.

Rescheduling built for a Dubai school year

Mock timetables change, half terms involve flights and children get colds. A slot that can move half an hour without disrupting anybody else's route is worth several lessons a year across a two-year Diploma.

Coverage limits published, not concealed

The subjects that fill easily and the ones that do not are named on this page. No competitor examined in this market discloses a coverage limit, and several route UAE parents to non-UAE numbers while implying local delivery.

Progress evidenced rather than overheard

A written summary after each lesson and before-and-after samples of the student's own marked work replace the thing a parent loses by not being in the room, and they accumulate into something a term can be judged on.

The academic-honesty line stated in advance

Tutors question, explain criteria and comment on drafts the student has written. A tutor must never write an Extended Essay or an internal assessment, in this market where at least one provider sells completed coursework outright.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in The Meadows: your questions answered

Will an IB home tutor actually come to our villa in The Meadows?+

Not from IB Gram. We do not send tutors to addresses in Dubai or anywhere else in the UAE; home tutoring is a service we offer only in India. Every UAE lesson is one-to-one over live video in Gulf Standard Time. The reason is set out on this page rather than hidden: published in-home rates of AED 180 to 500 an hour overlap almost exactly with online specialist rates of AED 200 to 450 and above, so the travel premium in this market buys a journey rather than better teaching. If proximity is non-negotiable for you, that is a legitimate position and we are not the right provider.

What exactly am I paying extra for when a tutor drives to Emirates Living?+

The round trip. From Al Barsha or Al Sufouh, where most tutors would travel from, that is twenty to forty minutes in the late afternoon and longer at the Al Khail interchange. The teaching is still sixty minutes, so the tutor's working block is ninety to a hundred and somebody pays for the difference. Published Dubai in-home rates of AED 180 to 500 including travel sit alongside online specialist rates of AED 200 to 450 and above, which tells you the premium is the journey rather than the quality of the hour.

Does it matter that I cannot overhear the lesson from the kitchen?+

It matters and it has to be replaced deliberately. What replaces it is written: a short summary after each lesson saying what was covered, what the student could and could not do, and what to practise. That accumulates, so after eight weeks you can see whether the same weakness keeps reappearing, which overhearing one hour cannot tell you. The second replacement is before-and-after samples of your child's own marked work at four lessons. Ask for both. A warm-sounding hour in the dining room is not evidence either.

Which IB subjects are genuinely hard to find a tutor for near The Meadows?+

Predictably: Chemistry and Physics at Higher Level, Mathematics Applications and Interpretation at Higher Level, Theory of Knowledge and Extended Essay supervision, and less commonly taught languages. Mathematics Analysis and Approaches at Standard Level, Biology and English A have a reasonable local pool, so insisting on proximity costs those families very little. For the thin subjects it costs them the specialist, which is the whole case for drawing from a wider pool in your own time slot.

What happens to a visiting arrangement when the mock timetable changes our usable hour?+

It usually needs the tutor's whole route rearranged, because a visiting slot sits between two other households and a thirty-minute shift disrupts both. That is a week of negotiation rather than an email. An online slot can move by half an hour directly, which over a two-year Diploma is worth several lessons. The honest counterpoint is that an online arrangement is also easier to let slide, so the answer is a fixed slot treated as fixed and a weekly summary a parent actually reads.

Can both my children have lessons on the same evening in one villa?+

Yes, and it is the arrangement most Meadows households settle on. Two consecutive slots with two different specialists means one quiet room used twice rather than two rooms at once, one evening spent rather than two, and each child matched to their actual qualification. That matters here because the community feeds both an IB campus and several British-curriculum schools, so a household often has a Diploma student and a Year 11 sitting Cambridge or Pearson papers in the same week.

Should one tutor take both children if they study different curricula?+

Usually not, however convenient it sounds. Somebody genuinely strong on Diploma Chemistry internal assessments is not necessarily the right person for Cambridge 0620 Extended paper technique, and a tutor who accepts both is often accepting the second to keep the first. Two specialists in consecutive slots costs the same evening and produces better teaching for the second child. Where one tutor does make sense is a pairing within one curriculum, such as Mathematics Analysis and Approaches and Higher Level Physics, where the technique genuinely overlaps.

When in the Dubai school year should we increase tutoring hours?+

The fortnight after mock results is the highest-yield period of the whole year, because the school has already produced the diagnosis and the student is briefly motivated to act on it. Study leave is next, because a DP2 or Year 11 student has whole days and no supervision. The summer before a new course is third and cheapest. The worst time is the last three weeks before papers, when the useful work is narrow, every good tutor is booked and extra hours tend to raise anxiety rather than marks.

Which deadlines actually govern a Diploma student's plan?+

The school's internal ones, not anything published centrally. Schools set their own dates for internal assessments, the Extended Essay and Theory of Knowledge well before external deadlines, because they need time to supervise, authenticate and mark. Ask the coordinator for those dates in September of DP1 and build backwards from them. This page deliberately publishes no IB examination or results dates: the IB's own site blocks automated checking, so nothing here could be verified, and an unverified date across a large set of pages would eventually mislead somebody badly.

Can a tutor help with the Extended Essay when the deadline is close?+

Within a fixed boundary. A tutor may discuss the research question, explain the assessment criteria, question the reasoning and comment on a draft the student has written. A tutor must never write the essay, dictate paragraphs or edit it to completion. At least one provider in this market sells completed coursework at four-figure prices; buying that exposes your child's entire Diploma to a malpractice finding while the seller carries no risk at all. Ask any tutor where the line sits and listen to the exact wording of the answer.

Is online tutoring easier or harder to keep academically honest?+

Easier, in one specific respect. A tutor and a student at a dining table with one laptop can produce a document whose authorship nobody can later reconstruct, and a parent two rooms away cannot distinguish coaching from composing. A screen-shared session where the student types in their own document, with a lesson summary describing what was discussed rather than what was produced, leaves a clearer trail. Neither format prevents misuse by a determined family, but one makes the honest version easier to run.

Do lessons continue when we travel from The Meadows over half term?+

Yes, and this is one of the clearer practical gains. A family in the UK, India or Europe for three weeks keeps its weekly slot if it wants one, with the time adjusted for the destination. A visiting arrangement pauses for the whole break. Across a two-year Diploma that difference typically adds up to several lessons. Ramadan works the same way: the slot moves to a post-iftar hour rather than stopping, which keeps continuity through a month that many families lose entirely.

How do we make sure an online slot does not quietly fade out by February?+

Three things, and they are structural rather than motivational. Fix the day and time and treat it as non-negotiable against fixtures and activities, which is easier to defend if the household only has to protect one evening. Read the written summary each week, because a parent who reads them is a parent the arrangement stays accountable to. And review properly at four lessons against a new piece of the student's marked work. Arrangements that decay are almost always arrangements nobody reviewed.

Is the person tutoring my child permitted to do it in the UAE?+

They should hold the MoHRE private tuition work permit, introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023 and granted free of charge for two years. Eligible applicants include registered school teachers, government and private-sector employees, unemployed residents, university students and school students aged 15 to 18, with MoHRE listing a two-working-day completion time. The u.ae guidance states that tutoring without a permit attracts fines and penalties under the applicable laws, and since no fine schedule is published nobody should quote you an amount. A tuition permit is also not the same thing as a KHDA permit for premises.

Could we hire a teacher from my child's own school privately instead?+

It is the arrangement most likely to create a problem for everybody. ADEK's professional-ethics rules for Abu Dhabi private and charter school staff prohibit teachers from providing paid private tutoring to students enrolled at their own school, and the MoHRE permit's code of conduct also bars serving students affiliated with the teacher's own school. That reporting should be verified against the current policy document, but the practical point holds in Dubai too. A teacher who marks your child's work and is paid by you privately is in a position neither of you should want them in.

What if nobody suits our subject, level and hour at all?+

We say so, which is not standard practice here. A narrow combination - Higher Level Chemistry at a fixed half-hour on a Tuesday, or Theory of Knowledge supervision in February - cannot always be filled. The options are a specialist elsewhere teaching in your Gulf Standard Time slot at the same rate, a different hour with the right person, or an honest wait with a realistic estimate. Putting an available but unsuitable tutor into a booked slot is how a family concludes tutoring does not work, when what happened was a bad match sold as a good one.

Work out what you want the money to do. If the subject has a deep local pool and proximity is what matters most to your household, that is a reasonable choice and this is not the service for it. If what matters is that the person teaching Higher Level Chemistry has taught Higher Level Chemistry to examination, the pool has to be wider than a twenty-minute drive from The Meadows.
