IGCSE Home Tutor in Deira

Families looking for an IGCSE home tutor in Deira almost always have a date in mind, even if they have not said it out loud. Mocks in a few weeks, final entries already submitted, a June series that nothing can move. This page is built as a calendar: the series counted backwards, what the next eight weeks can realistically achieve from wherever you are standing in the year, and when buying tutoring stops being able to change the outcome.

IB & IGCSE in Deira

Work backwards from the series, not forwards from today

Deira is the oldest part of Dubai and one of the most densely populated, a grid of apartment blocks and souqs north of the Creek where families live close together and children travel to schools spread across Al Qusais, Al Mamzar, Bur Dubai and Al Garhoud. It is also a neighbourhood where IGCSE results carry real weight, because they are the qualification that decides post-16 options and because Ministry of Education equivalency rests on them. So when a parent here searches for a tutor, there is usually a date behind the search.

The problem is that almost nobody sells tutoring against that date. Enquire with an agency and you will be asked which subject and how many sessions, not which series your child is entered for and whether the tier can still be changed. Those two questions determine what tutoring can achieve far more than the number of sessions does, because several of the decisions that control an IGCSE outcome close months before the papers are sat and cannot be reopened by paying more.

Here is the ordering that matters. Tier and subject entries are decided by the school on the basis of earlier attainment, then submitted to the board well before the series. Mocks follow, and the marked scripts from them are the only honest diagnostic a family gets. Then the examination window. Then results in August for the summer series, with the November series as the resit route and its results reaching students in January. Tutoring bought before the entry deadline can change which papers a child sits. Tutoring bought after it can only change how well they sit them.

IB Gram delivers all UAE tuition online, one-to-one, over live video. IB Gram does not offer home visits in Dubai or anywhere else in the UAE; home visits are a service we run only in India. In Deira that format solves a specific local problem as well as a scheduling one: apartment living means a quiet room is not always available at 5pm, and an online session can be moved to a morning in the holidays or to a time when a shared room is free, which a visiting tutor's weekly slot cannot.

What follows is the year in order. There is a backwards-counted calendar with the official sources named. There is a table showing what eight weeks can achieve depending on how many weeks remain. There is the mock-script method that sorts lost marks into three bins, which is the single most useful hour a Year 11 family will spend. There is the June and November comparison for resit decisions. There are the dirham market rates with sources. And there is a short section on the paperwork waiting at the end, because equivalency catches families out after the grades are in.

Cambridge IGCSE

Four-digit syllabus codes such as 0580 Mathematics, 0625 Physics, 0620 Chemistry and 0610 Biology, with Core and Extended tiers in several subjects. Cambridge runs a June series and a November series, plus Primary and Lower Secondary Checkpoint tests in March, May and October.

Cambridge allocates every centre to one of six administrative zones and states that it is essential to use the correct version of the timetable for your zone, because it cannot accept responsibility for candidates who miss an examination after using the wrong one. Ask your Deira school which zone it is in and work from that document.

EDXAges 14-16 · Years 10-11

Pearson Edexcel International GCSE

Codes in the 4-series such as 4MA1 Mathematics A, 4PH1 Physics, 4CH1 Chemistry and 4BI1 Biology, examined in May/June and November each year. Several Pearson subjects use fewer, longer papers than their Cambridge equivalents, which changes how revision should be paced.

The November final timetable ran from late October to 19 November 2026. June 2026 results reached centres on 19 August 2026 and students on 20 August 2026, and November 2025 results reached students on 22 January 2026. Pearson publishes provisional timetables ahead of each series, so work from the live official timetable rather than a restated date.

Y10Ages 14-15

Year 10, when decisions are still open

Content delivery across eight to ten subjects, the first serious internal assessments, and the window in which a tier change is realistically possible. Tutoring bought here can alter which papers a student sits, which is a bigger lever than anything available later.

Ask the school in writing which tier your child is entered for in each subject and what the deadline is for changing it. Deira families frequently discover a Core entry in Year 11, by which point the grade ceiling is fixed and the conversation is about damage limitation.

Y11Ages 15-16

Year 11, when the calendar takes over

Mocks, coursework deadlines, the series itself and the resit decision. The week is at its fullest and the margin for a collapsed arrangement is smallest, so one protected weekly slot plus a weekend paper session is the shape that holds.

After results, equivalency becomes the live issue. On the British track the published requirement is five accredited GCSE or IGCSE subjects at no less than grade E or grade 3, excluding Arabic and Islamic education, plus one Advanced Level at no less than E or two Advanced Subsidiary subjects at the same grade.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

Ordered here by how much the calendar matters in each. Some subjects reward support across a whole year; others respond better to a focused block in the final term, and buying the wrong pattern wastes money even when the teaching is good.

Mathematics

Cambridge 0580; Pearson 4MA1

Cumulative, so support is worth more early than late. The skill that moves grades is method-mark discipline: showing working a marker can follow and not abandoning a multi-step question halfway. Needs a term to become automatic, which is why a six-week push before the series rarely changes a boundary.

Physics

Cambridge 0625; Pearson 4PH1

Electricity and forces carry most of the marks and most of the confusion. Written explanation quality is the gap: students calculate correctly and then describe a cause and effect in the wrong order. Benefits from steady work from the start of Year 11 rather than a late block.

Chemistry

Cambridge 0620; Pearson 4CH1

Moles, electrolysis and organic chemistry sit between a 6 and an 8. The practical or alternative-to-practical component rewards precise language about apparatus and error, and because question types repeat across series it is unusually learnable in a short block.

Biology

Cambridge 0610; Pearson 4BI1

Content volume rather than conceptual difficulty, which makes it the subject most improvable in the final term. Command-term discipline and a condensed definition list do more in six weeks than re-reading the textbook does in six months.

Co-ordinated and Combined Sciences

Cambridge 0654 and 0653

All three sciences in one or two awards, common for students taking nine or ten subjects. The syllabus is narrower than the separate sciences, so the single most valuable calendar action is confirming the entry code before any revision material is bought.

English First Language

Cambridge 0500 and 0990

Improves through frequent short marked pieces rather than long sessions, so the pattern that works is fortnightly across the year rather than intensively at the end. The reading paper's analysis questions are where the marks concentrate.

English as a Second Language

Cambridge 0510 and 0511

A separate qualification with its own mark scheme and a speaking component in some variants. The entry decision is a Year 10 conversation, not a Year 11 one, because moving between First Language and Second Language after entries is not usually possible.

Business Studies and Economics

Cambridge 0450 and 0455

The clearest case for a late focused block. Marks sit in diagram accuracy and justified judgement rather than content volume, both of which respond to six concentrated weeks far better than to a year of weekly sessions.

Computer Science and ICT

Cambridge 0478 and 0417

ICT carries substantial practical coursework that occupies specific weeks of the year, so support has to be timed to those weeks and is wasted outside them. Computer Science is theory and pseudocode with a steadier rhythm and benefits from consistent work.

Arabic and modern languages

Cambridge 0508 First Language Arabic; 0520 French

Speaking components are often assessed earlier than the written papers, which catches families by surprise every year. Ask the school when the oral is scheduled; it is frequently weeks or months before the main window and needs preparation on its own timetable.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three formats, each matched to a position in the year. Which one is right depends entirely on how many weeks remain, and that is the first question we ask. All lessons are online, one-to-one, over live video.

Term-long weekly, from the start of the year

One protected weekly slot in a cumulative subject, running from the autumn term through to the series. This is the only format that can build method discipline and examination technique to the point of being automatic, because both need repeated practice across months rather than weeks.

  • Same tutor, same evening, across the year
  • Planned against the school's assessment calendar
  • Reviewed at every set of mocks
  • Pauses for breaks if you want them

Post-mock repair block

Six to eight sessions starting immediately after mock results, working from the marked scripts. This is the highest-value block in the IGCSE year because it is the only one informed by real evidence rather than impressions, and it is bought by far too few families.

  • Begins with the scripts, not with a syllabus
  • Lost marks sorted into content, method and question-reading
  • Targets the largest bin first
  • Measured against the next timed paper

Final-stretch technique block

Four to six sessions in the last weeks before the series, on timing, paper order and the subjects where content volume is the only problem. It cannot change a tier or build a habit, and we say so, but it can recover marks a student is currently throwing away.

  • Timed papers, marked together
  • Paper order and question triage
  • Best used on Biology, Business and Economics
  • Honest about what it cannot do

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Deira

01

The IGCSE year counted backwards

Nobody competing for these searches publishes a calendar, which is odd, because the calendar is what a parent is actually holding. The table below runs the year in reverse from the series, with who sets each milestone and what should already be complete by then. Every date in it should be confirmed against the official timetable for your child's board and, for Cambridge, for your centre's administrative zone.

Two sources anchor the dates that can be stated. For Pearson Edexcel International GCSE, examinations are available in May/June and November; the November final timetable ran from late October to 19 November 2026, June 2026 results reached centres on 19 August 2026 and students on 20 August 2026, and November 2025 results reached students on 22 January 2026. Pearson also publishes provisional timetables ahead of each series, which is the reason to link the live official document rather than restate a date that may be revised.

For Cambridge, UAE candidates sit the June series with November available as the resit route. Cambridge allocates every centre to one of six administrative zones and states that it is essential to use the correct version of the timetable for your zone, because it cannot accept responsibility for candidates who miss an examination after using the wrong one. One further warning that matters specifically here: the Cambridge February and March series is offered to India only. A Dubai revision plan built around a February sitting is using the wrong country's calendar.

The practical use of the table is to find out which decisions are still open. Before the entry deadline, tier is negotiable and tutoring can change which papers a student sits. After it, tutoring can only change performance. Knowing which side of that line you are standing on is the difference between a sensible plan and an expensive one.

What eight weeks can do, depending on how many are left

Parents ask whether it is too late, and the answer depends on arithmetic rather than optimism. Eight weeks of weekly sessions is roughly one term and is enough to make one examination skill automatic in one subject. It is not enough to cover a year of missing content in three subjects, and any provider who says otherwise is selling hours rather than outcomes.

With thirty weeks left, the right purchase is a cumulative subject taught weekly — Mathematics or a science — because habits built over that period hold under examination pressure. With fifteen weeks, the right purchase is one subject plus a mock-script repair block, because there is still time for a habit to form but not for two. With eight weeks, the honest purchase is the subject where content volume is the only obstacle, usually Biology or Business, plus timing and paper-order work. With three weeks, no amount of money changes a grade boundary, and the useful spend is one session on paper triage and then leaving the student alone to revise.

A warning about the opposite error. Families who start early frequently over-buy, booking three subjects weekly from September and discovering in November that the student's week never had room for it. Starting early is an argument for buying one thing properly for a long time, not for buying everything at once. The protected single slot plus a fortnightly weekend paper is the shape that survives thirty weeks.

The table gives the honest version for each position in the year. It is deliberately specific about what cannot be achieved, because that is the part no competitor page in this market will tell you.

03

Mock scripts and the three bins

  • Bin one, content not known: teach the topics, weekly, early
  • Bin two, method not shown: a short block on working and mark-scheme language
  • Bin three, question misread or mistimed: timing drills and paper triage
  • Count the bins before buying anything; most students' largest bin is not the first

This is the most valuable hour in an IGCSE year and most families skip it. Mock papers come home marked against real mark schemes, get glanced at, and go into a drawer. The grade is noted and the information inside the script — which is far more useful than the grade — is thrown away.

The method is simple enough to do without a tutor, and worth doing even if you never buy a session. Go through every lost mark on the script and put it in one of three bins. Bin one: the content was not known. Bin two: the content was known but the method or working was not shown in a way the mark scheme could credit. Bin three: the question was misread, mistimed or left blank. Count the bins.

What families find is usually counter-intuitive and encouraging. For most students the largest bin is the second or third, not the first. That matters because bins two and three are far faster to fix than missing content: showing working properly is a habit that can be trained in a few weeks, and running out of time on the last question is a paper-order problem rather than a knowledge problem. A student who revises harder when their largest bin is bin three is working hard at the wrong thing.

Once the bins are counted, the tutoring brief writes itself. Largest bin content: teach the topics, weekly, for as long as there is time. Largest bin method: a short block on working, layout and mark-scheme language, then timed practice. Largest bin question-reading: timing drills, question triage and a fixed order for attempting the paper. Three different purchases, and buying the wrong one is how families spend a term with nothing to show.

04

June or November: making the resit decision properly

The November series exists and is used, and a Deira family should understand it before results day rather than in the week after. For Cambridge, UAE candidates sit June as the main series with November available as the resit route. Pearson offers May/June and November. The November window and the January results date are both published, and November 2025 results reached students on 22 January 2026.

The decision to resit is made quickly after August results, under pressure, and it is better made against criteria agreed in advance. The questions worth settling early: which subjects actually need a higher grade for the post-16 plan, as opposed to which grades were disappointing; whether the student will be carrying a full A Level or Diploma workload at the same time as resit revision; and whether the gap was close to a boundary or a long way from it. A grade that missed by two marks and a grade that missed by twenty are different problems and only one of them is a resit candidate.

The timing is the hard part. A November resit means revision running through the summer and into the first term of a new post-16 course, which is the heaviest transition in a student's school career. Families who do this successfully usually resit one subject, not three, and start the preparation in the summer rather than in October.

For Ministry of Education equivalency the arithmetic also matters: the published British-track requirement is five accredited GCSE or IGCSE subjects at a grade of no less than E or grade 3, with Arabic and Islamic education excluded from that count. A family needs to know which five they are relying on before deciding what to resit, and that is a conversation to have with the school rather than with a tutoring provider.

What a term of IGCSE support costs in Deira

The travel premium is the line a Deira family should look at first, because this is a district where a visiting tutor's journey is genuinely slow and genuinely priced in. Published Dubai in-home one-to-one rates run AED 180 to 350 an hour according to Bestimate's rate work, with independent home tutors quoted up to AED 500. Online qualified subject tutors sit at AED 150 to 300, with Unitors publishing IGCSE from AED 150. The difference between those bands is not teaching; it is a car in Deira traffic and the parking that follows it.

Below that band, Tutopiya advertises from around AED 33 to 52 an hour and EdFlik from AED 45 to 65, both online and generally generalist. Above it, specialists are quoted AED 200 to 450 and above, with TutorChase publishing AED 270 and Bestimate putting IB, IGCSE and A Level specialists in the same range, while BartyED publishes AED 650 at the named or examiner-level end.

For a term, which is how this page thinks about everything, the arithmetic is straightforward. Twelve weekly sessions at the qualified band is roughly AED 1,800 to 3,600; at the specialist band, AED 2,400 to 5,400. Bestimate's monthly estimates are AED 240 to 600 for a weekly budget session, AED 600 to 1,200 mid-range and AED 1,000 to 2,000 or more for specialist examination-year work. Advertised packages show about AED 799 a month for eight online sessions against AED 1,599 to 1,799 for four two-hour in-home sessions. All read in October 2026, each attributed to its publisher.

Those are market figures, not ours. We quote after a free trial lesson, one per subject before any payment, against a written plan with a term total on it, because a post-mock repair block and a thirty-week Mathematics plan are different purchases and a single hourly rate would misprice both.

Ramadan and the second half of the year

Ramadan falls in the half of the Dubai school year when IGCSE revision should be building, and it moves earlier each year, so a plan written in September should already name what happens during it. Schools shorten the day and reduce after-school activities, and households reorganise the evening around Iftar.

Handled deliberately, this is an opportunity rather than a loss. A shortened school day frees the early afternoon, which is the only time in a normal Dubai term when a student is both awake and unburdened by homework. An early-afternoon session in that period is often the most productive hour of the whole year. The alternative, suited to older students who have adjusted their sleep, is a post-Iftar slot later than a family would normally accept.

Both are straightforward online and difficult with a visiting tutor, whose own travel and schedule are compressed in the same way. More importantly, both need agreeing in advance. The failure we see every year is a session that quietly stops for a month and is never rebuilt, costing six weeks of momentum in the term the whole year was pointing at. Agreeing a reduced but real pattern — one session a week instead of two, at a different hour — keeps the thread intact.

Prayer times matter outside Ramadan too. Fixing a session relative to Maghrib rather than to a clock hour, and adjusting it every few weeks as the time moves, is normal practice for a UAE family and a tutor who treats it as an inconvenience is the wrong tutor.

07

Where a Deira student actually sits down to work

This is a practical section rather than an academic one, and it applies to Deira more than to most Dubai districts. Housing here is overwhelmingly apartments, often with more people than bedrooms, and a Year 11 student frequently does not have a quiet desk available at 5pm. That is a real constraint on both tutoring and revision, and pretending otherwise produces plans that fail for reasons nobody names.

What works, in order of how often families report it working. A morning slot at the weekend or in a holiday, when the flat is quieter and the student is fresher. A session timed to when a shared room is genuinely free, which an online booking can accommodate precisely. Headphones and a corner rather than a dedicated study, which is adequate for a one-to-one session in a way it is not for group revision. And, for revision rather than sessions, a public library, a school study room or a quiet café, all of which are easier to reach in Deira than in most of Dubai because the Metro runs through it.

What does not work is a visiting tutor arriving at a fixed hour into a full flat. The session needs a table and relative quiet for sixty minutes, and in a dense household that window moves day to day. This is the one argument for online delivery that is specific to this neighbourhood rather than general, and it is the reason online uptake in the Deira belt has been faster than in Dubai's villa communities.

One further point worth raising with the school: most Dubai secondaries run supervised study or revision rooms after hours, free of charge, and they are under-used. For a student without a quiet space at home, that provision is worth more than an extra paid session.

08

The paperwork waiting after results day

Families plan for the examinations and then meet the administration, which is a poor order to discover it in. Ministry of Education equivalency is the step that converts an international qualification into something UAE institutions can act on, and it has published requirements that are worth reading in Year 11 rather than in September after results.

On the British track the published requirement is passes in five accredited subjects at GCSE or IGCSE with a grade of no less than E or grade 3, plus either one accredited subject at Advanced Level with a grade of no less than E or two accredited subjects at Advanced Subsidiary Level at the same grade. Arabic and Islamic education are not included among the five required subjects. One competitor page currently ranking states that UAE candidates must take six IGCSE subjects; the published rule is five, and inheriting that error would cost a family a decision. On the American track, English proficiency can be shown with a score of 5 in IELTS academic, 61 in TOEFL iBT or 450 in the SAT reading and writing section, and mathematics requires at least 450 in SAT Math.

For the IB there is no points threshold in that source, so none is published here. Confirm the IB requirement on moe.gov.ae or with the emirate's attestation authority before planning around it. Equivalency is a process the Ministry runs; it is not something a tutoring provider performs, guarantees or can accelerate, and no tutoring is required for it.

The schools context behind all of this: private schools in Dubai are overseen by KHDA, which the UAE government describes as responsible for enhancing and overseeing the quality of private education in the emirate. Abu Dhabi and Al Ain fall under ADEK, Sharjah under the Sharjah Private Education Authority, Ras Al Khaimah under its Department of Knowledge, and Ajman, Umm Al Quwain and Fujairah under the federal Ministry of Education. IB Gram is not approved, accredited or licensed by any of them, and any provider claiming such status should be asked to produce the permit number.

Where we tutor

Nearby areas we cover around Deira

Deira and the districts around it are dense, apartment-heavy and well served by the Metro, which changes both the school run and where a student can actually sit down to work.

Deira

Apartment blocks between the Creek and Abu Baker Al Siddique Road, with the Metro Green Line running through. Children travel outward to school; the constraint at home is finding a quiet room at 5pm in a full flat.

Al Rigga and Naif

The commercial core, where households are often above shops and street noise runs late. Families here more often choose morning weekend slots and holiday blocks than weekday evening sessions.

Hor Al Anz and Al Muteena

Residential blocks with a large school-age population and several schools within walking or short-drive distance. Shorter commutes mean a 4:30pm session is sometimes genuinely possible here, unlike most of this list.

Abu Hail and Al Mamzar

Quieter residential streets towards the coast, with Deira Private School in the Al Mamzar direction. Journeys are short, and families report more reliable arrival times than those commuting south across the Creek.

Al Qusais and Al Nahda

The adjacent school district carrying several of Dubai's largest rolls. Many Deira students school here, and the return journey crosses the airport road at its busiest, so arrival home is poorly predicted by finish time.

Bur Dubai and Oud Metha

Across the Creek, where a number of long-established schools sit. A Deira student schooling here is making two Creek crossings a day, which is the longest routine commute in this set.

Al Garhoud and Dubai Festival City

South of the Creek near the airport, carrying the nearest IB provision and two large international schools. Arrival home in Deira from here is realistically 4pm to 4:30pm on a normal day.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Tell us the series and the weeks remaining

The first question is not which subject but which series your child is entered for and how many weeks are left. That number determines what is achievable, and we would rather tell you that three weeks out the honest answer is one session than sell you six.

  2. 02

Confirm the tier and the board

Ask the school in writing which tier or paper your child is entered for in each subject, the exact syllabus code, and whether a change is still possible. Before the entry deadline that information changes the whole plan; after it, it changes which past papers we use.

  3. 03

    Bring the mock scripts

If mocks have happened, the scripts are the brief. We sort every lost mark into content, method or question-reading and the largest bin decides what the block targets. Without the scripts the first session is spent guessing at something the papers already answered.

Free trial lesson, one per subject

One free trial lesson per subject before any payment, taken at the proposed slot time. For a Deira family it is worth taking it at the hour you intend to use, so you can check the room is quiet and the student is actually available.

Reviewed at the next timed paper

The review point is a paper sat to time, not a number of weeks. If the score moved, we pick the next target. If it did not, we change the tutor or the method and say which we think it was. Every review is a clean exit point.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

The calendar published, counted backwards

Entry deadlines, mocks, oral components, the series, results and the resit route, in reverse order with the official sources named. No competitor page in this market publishes a session, a deadline or a results date, and those are the facts a Year 11 parent needs most.

Honest about what is no longer possible

The weeks-remaining table says plainly what tutoring cannot change from each position in the year, including that in the last three weeks you should not buy sessions at all. That costs us revenue and is the correct thing to tell a parent.

Dates cited, not restated

Where a date can be stated it is attributed: the Pearson November final timetable to 19 November 2026, June 2026 results to centres on 19 August 2026, November 2025 results to students on 22 January 2026. Everything else points at the live official timetable, including the correct Cambridge zone version.

Built for apartment living

Slots are set to when a quiet room is genuinely free, with weekend mornings and holiday blocks offered as the better option where evenings do not work. In a district of dense housing that is a real constraint, and a visiting tutor's fixed hour cannot accommodate it.

Market rates with sources

Every AED figure here names its publisher and is dated October 2026, given hourly, monthly and per term. We quote our own figure after the free trial against a plan with a term total, so it is comparable to anything else you are considering.

Claims we do not make

No regulator approval, no board partnership, no promise about a grade, no self-published ratings and no statistics without a source. Equivalency is described and attributed, never offered as something we perform. Several pages in this search fail at least one of those tests.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Deira: your questions answered

My child's exams are in eight weeks. Is it worth starting now?+

Yes, but only for the right things. Eight weeks can make one examination skill automatic in one subject, and it is enough to recover marks in subjects where content volume is the only obstacle — Biology, Business Studies, Economics. It cannot build method discipline in Mathematics, which needs a term, and it cannot change the tier your child is entered for. The highest-value use of eight weeks is timed papers plus whichever subject the mock scripts show is closest to a boundary.

How do I use my child's mock scripts properly?+

Go through every lost mark and sort it into three bins: content not known, method not shown in a way the mark scheme could credit, or question misread, mistimed or left blank. Count them. Most students find the largest bin is the second or third, which is good news because both are faster to fix than missing content. The largest bin then writes the tutoring brief, and buying the wrong one of the three is how families spend a term with nothing to show for it.

How long before the June papers does my child's entry get locked in?+

Months before the papers, because the school submits a candidate list and paper allocation to the board as an entry centre. The practical consequence is that tier and subject decisions close long before the examination date suggests, and tutoring bought after that point can change performance but not which papers your child sits. Ask the school in writing for the entry deadline and for the tier your child is on, and treat that date as the real deadline rather than the examination itself.

Is the November series a sensible resit route for a Deira student?+

For one subject, often yes. For three, almost never, because November revision runs through the summer and into the first term of a new post-16 course, which is the heaviest transition in a student's school career. Decide against criteria set in advance: which grade the post-16 plan actually requires, how close the result was to the boundary, and whether the student will be carrying a new course at the same time. November 2025 results reached students on 22 January 2026, so a resit grade may arrive after enrolment.

Which Cambridge timetable should we be working from?+

The one for your centre's administrative zone. Cambridge allocates every centre to one of six zones, states that it is essential to use the correct version of the timetable for the zone, and says it cannot accept responsibility for candidates who miss an examination after using the wrong one. Ask your school which zone it sits in and get that document rather than a general listing. One further point: the Cambridge February and March series is offered to India only, so a Dubai plan built around a February sitting is using the wrong calendar.

When are the oral and practical components assessed?+

Frequently weeks or months before the main written window, which catches families by surprise every year. Speaking components in language subjects and practical or alternative-to-practical arrangements in the sciences are scheduled by the school, not by the parent, and they need their own preparation timetable. Email the school early in Year 11 and ask for every non-written assessment date in one list. It is a two-minute question that prevents the most avoidable disappointment in the IGCSE year.

What does a term of IGCSE tutoring cost in Deira?+

Using published Dubai figures read in October 2026: twelve weekly sessions at the qualified band of AED 150 to 300 an hour comes to roughly AED 1,800 to 3,600, and at the specialist band of AED 200 to 450 and above, roughly AED 2,400 to 5,400. Budget online generalists at AED 33 to 65 would be about AED 400 to 780 for the same term. In-home visits at AED 180 to 500 including travel work out considerably higher. Those are market rates; we quote after a free trial with a term total.

Our flat is crowded. Where should my child take a lesson?+

Wherever is genuinely quiet at that hour, and the honest answer in much of Deira is a weekend morning or a holiday block rather than a weekday evening. Headphones and a corner are adequate for a one-to-one session in a way they are not for group revision. Also ask the school about supervised study or revision rooms after hours, which most Dubai secondaries run free of charge and which are badly under-used. For a student without a desk at home, that is worth more than an extra paid session.

What should a Deira revision plan do about the Ramadan weeks?+

Agree the change before the period starts rather than improvising. Schools shorten the day and reduce activities, which frees the early afternoon — often the most productive academic hour of the entire year, because the student is awake and not yet carrying homework. The alternative is a post-Iftar slot for older students who have adjusted their sleep. The failure to avoid is a session that quietly stops for a month and is never rebuilt, in the term the whole year has been building towards.

Can tutoring still change which papers my child sits?+

Only before the entry deadline. Schools decide tier on earlier attainment, and until entries are submitted a well-evidenced case for moving a student from Core to Extended, or Foundation to Higher, is sometimes accepted — which is the single largest lever available, because tier sets the grade ceiling. After entries close, tutoring changes performance within the papers already chosen. That is why the first question we ask is which series and how many weeks remain, rather than which subject.

Should we buy sessions in the last fortnight before the papers?+

Generally no, and we will say so. In the final two or three weeks a student needs sleep, a sensible paper plan and uninterrupted time to revise what they already know. One session on paper order and question triage can recover marks that are currently being thrown away. Beyond that, additional sessions compete with revision rather than supporting it, and they tend to be bought to relieve parental anxiety rather than because they will change a grade.

Which five subjects should we be protecting for equivalency?+

Decide with the school, early. The published British-track requirement is five accredited GCSE or IGCSE subjects at a grade of no less than E or grade 3, with Arabic and Islamic education excluded from that count, plus one Advanced Level subject at no less than E or two Advanced Subsidiary subjects at the same grade. One currently ranking competitor page says six subjects are required, which does not match the published rule. Knowing which five you are relying on changes what is worth tutoring and what is worth resitting.

Will a tutor come to our apartment in Deira?+

Not from us. Every UAE lesson is online, one-to-one, over live video, and IB Gram does not offer home visits anywhere in the UAE; that is part of our India service. In this district the online format solves a specific problem: a visiting tutor needs a quiet table at a fixed hour, and in dense housing that window moves day to day. In-home tutoring is available in the Dubai market at AED 180 to 500 an hour including travel for families who need it.

How many subjects can we realistically tutor at once in Year 11?+

One weekly, plus a fortnightly weekend paper session across subjects. A Dubai Year 11 week contains eight to ten subject entries, mandatory Arabic, Islamic Education and social studies lessons, two or three afternoons of clinics or fixtures, and clustered homework. Three weekly sessions into that week produces three half-attended hours and an arrangement that collapses by half term. One protected slot that survives to the series is worth more than three that do not reach February.

Does starting in Year 10 actually save money?+

Usually, because it changes what is possible rather than just adding hours. In Year 10 a tier change is still negotiable, content gaps are small enough to close in a term, and the week has room for a session. The expensive pattern is doing nothing for two years and then buying intensively for the final two months, which is also the pattern least likely to work, since examination technique needs repeated practice across a term before it holds under pressure.

What should I ask a tutor to prove they know the board?+

Ask them to name the syllabus code, the number of papers at that tier, and how the practical or oral component is assessed for your child's specification. Then ask them to mark one page of a mock script aloud, saying what each annotation is worth. A specialist uses mark-scheme language and finishes by naming one behaviour to change. A generalist corrects spelling and suggests more practice. You do not need subject knowledge to hear which one you are listening to.

Start with the date, then work backwards

Tell us which series your child is entered for, how many weeks remain, which board and tier, and whether mocks have happened. With those four facts we will say what is achievable from where you are standing, including when the honest answer is fewer sessions than you expected or none at all. The first lesson is free, one per subject, before any payment, and best taken at the hour and in the room you intend to use. Lessons are online, one-to-one, over live video, in Gulf Standard Time, and every date we work from comes off the official timetable rather than a website.
