IB Tutor near me in Deira

A search for an IB tutor near me in Deira is nearly always made at a specific point in a two-year programme, and the point matters more than the postcode. This page lays the Diploma out as a calendar: what each term of DP1 and DP2 actually contains, where the internal deadlines sit, when predicted grades are issued, and which weeks of those two years are worth spending tutoring money in. Lessons are delivered online, one-to-one.

IB & IGCSE in Deira

Two years, and only some of the weeks are worth buying

Deira is dense, old and well connected. Families live in apartment blocks between the Creek and Abu Baker Al Siddique Road, children travel out to schools in Al Qusais, Al Mamzar, Bur Dubai and across the water to Al Garhoud and Festival City, and the Metro does more of the moving than cars do. Diploma students here are a smaller group than IGCSE students, because the IB accounts for roughly 7 per cent of Dubai private school enrolment against 37 per cent for the UK curriculum, and that scarcity shows up in how hard it is to find the right subject specialist within any short radius.

The more useful thing to understand first, though, is the shape of the programme. The Diploma is two years, six subjects across six groups, normally three at Higher Level and three at Standard Level, plus three core elements: Theory of Knowledge, the Extended Essay of up to 4,000 words, and Creativity, Activity, Service running across about eighteen months. Up to three points come from the core, out of a maximum of 45. Every subject carries internally assessed coursework. Almost all of the external assessment lands in a single session at the end.

That structure has a consequence most families only notice halfway through: the two years are not evenly loaded. DP1 is deceptively calm in its first term and then produces a pile of internal deadlines in its second and third. DP2 begins with the Extended Essay and the Theory of Knowledge essay both live, runs into predicted grades and university applications, and then has a long run of revision in which almost nothing new can be learned. Buying tutoring in the quiet weeks and nothing in the heavy ones is a common and expensive error.

IB Gram delivers all UAE tuition online, one-to-one, over live video. IB Gram does not offer home visits in Dubai or anywhere else in the UAE; home visits are a service we run only in India. For a Deira family that solves two problems at once. The first is subject supply: matching online means a student needing Chemistry HL or History HL is choosing from every available specialist rather than from the few who will travel into this district at 5pm. The second is domestic: in dense apartment housing the quiet hour moves day to day, and an online slot can move with it.

What follows is the programme as a calendar. A term-by-term map of both years. The core counted backwards, because Theory of Knowledge and the Extended Essay are where timelines slip. The internal assessment deadlines that sit inside the school's own calendar. Predicted grades and the university application months. A table of when tutoring money is best spent across the two years, which is the part no competitor publishes. And an honest statement about IB examination dates, which we will not print, and why.

IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

The Diploma divides into four working phases rather than two years, and the tutoring question is different in each. Knowing which phase you are in is the first step to spending sensibly.

DP1aAge 16 · Year 12

DP1, first term

Subject content starts, the step up from IGCSE or MYP becomes visible, and nothing is due yet. The quietest period of the two years and the cheapest moment to fix a gap, because a weakness identified now has eighteen months to be repaired rather than eight weeks.

Deira students arriving from IGCSE at a Bur Dubai or Al Qusais school into Diploma provision at a Festival City school often take a term to notice the difference in written expectation. A single weekly session in this term frequently removes the need for three in DP2.

DP1bAge 16-17 · Year 12

DP1, second and third terms

Internal assessment work begins in several subjects at once, the Extended Essay topic and supervisor are settled, the Theory of Knowledge exhibition falls in most schools, and CAS has to be visibly running. The busiest underestimated period in the programme.

This is where Dubai families most often discover that two internal assessments have been set in the same fortnight. Ask the Diploma coordinator for the school's full internal deadline calendar at the start of the year and put it on a wall rather than in an inbox.

DP2aAge 17 · Year 13

DP2, first term

The Extended Essay moves to completion, the Theory of Knowledge essay is drafted against a prescribed title, remaining internal assessments are finished, predicted grades are issued and university applications are submitted. Academic content teaching competes with all of it.

University deadlines bite here. UK applications run to a mid-October date for certain courses and a late-January main deadline; United States early rounds fall in November with regular rounds in January. Predicted grades are issued by the school before these, so the work that earns them happens earlier than parents expect.

DP2bAge 17-18 · Year 13

DP2, final terms

Mock examinations, the last internal deadlines, and then a long revision run into the examination session. Very little new content can be learned in this phase; what can be improved is paper technique, timing and the handful of topics a student has never understood.

Mocks here are the most informative thing a Deira family will see before results, and the marked scripts are more useful than the grade. A session spent on the scripts, sorting lost marks by cause, is worth more than three spent revising the syllabus again.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

Below are the Diploma subjects Deira families ask about most, with a note on when in the two years each one tends to need help. Timing matters as much as subject choice.

Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches

HL and SL

Algebraic and proof-heavy, with HL carrying additional content and a further paper. Cumulative, so help is worth far more in DP1 than DP2. The exploration should be topic-settled by the end of DP1, because a topic with too little mathematical substance cannot be rescued later.

Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation

HL and SL

Modelling and statistics-led with heavier technology use. Easier to support late than Analysis and Approaches, because more of the marks sit in applying named techniques to given contexts. The route decision should be made against university requirements before DP1 begins.

Chemistry

HL and SL

The internal assessment needs a research question narrow enough to produce real quantitative data, and that decision belongs in DP1. Content support is most valuable across DP1; in DP2 the productive work is unfamiliar data analysis and extended written responses.

Physics

HL and SL

Mechanics and electricity early, fields and quantum later, so a DP1 gap compounds. Written explanation quality is where most marks are lost, and it improves steadily with practice rather than suddenly, which argues for weekly work from DP1 rather than a late block.

Biology

HL and SL

The most content-heavy of the sciences and therefore the most improvable in DP2, because command-term discipline and a condensed definition set can be built in weeks. Data-based questions reward careful reading of axes and units more than recall.

Economics

HL and SL

Diagram accuracy carries the marks, and the internal assessment is a set of commentaries on recent news articles, each with its own deadline through DP1. Students lose marks summarising the article instead of applying a named diagram, which is a correctable habit.

Business Management

HL and SL

Frameworks applied to real organisations, with HL adding content and a pre-seen element. The internal assessment requires genuine research access, which must be arranged early in DP1 or the project runs out of material.

English A: Language and Literature

HL and SL

Textual analysis across literary and non-literary texts, an individual oral and a written component, with HL adding a further essay. The individual oral is scheduled by the school, often earlier than families expect, and needs preparation on its own timetable.

History and Psychology

HL and SL

Essay structure, source or study evaluation, and a word-limited internal investigation. These are the hardest Diploma subjects to staff in Dubai, so a request for either at Higher Level should be made weeks before it becomes urgent.

Theory of Knowledge, Extended Essay and CAS

Core, all DP students

The exhibition and a 1,600-word essay on a prescribed title, an Extended Essay of up to 4,000 words, and CAS across about eighteen months. Together worth up to three points. Paid support here is process coaching and nothing else: question design, research method, referencing and timeline discipline.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three formats, each tied to a phase of the Diploma rather than to a subject. All lessons are online, one-to-one, over live video, and all begin with a free trial so the plan follows a diagnosis.

DP1 weekly, one subject

A single protected weekly slot through the first year in the subject that will be hardest. This is the best-value purchase in the whole Diploma because content is cumulative, habits have eighteen months to set, and the internal assessment decision can be made properly rather than hurriedly.

  • Same tutor and slot across the year
  • Internal assessment question settled before DP1 ends
  • Reviewed at each school report
  • Pauses over breaks if you want them

Core process block

Four to six sessions spread across the two years on the Extended Essay and Theory of Knowledge, bought as process coaching: question design, research method, referencing, and a timeline the student is held to. Small, cheap, and the thing that prevents the most expensive failure in the programme.

  • Research question narrowed until it is answerable
  • A written timeline with check-in dates
  • Criteria read with the student, draft marked against them
  • Never any drafting or writing by the tutor

DP2 technique block

Six to eight sessions after mocks, working from the marked scripts on paper technique, timing and the specific topics that never landed. Honest about its limits: it cannot teach two years of content, and we will say so rather than sell a course of twenty.

  • Starts from mock scripts, not from a syllabus
  • Timed papers sat and marked together
  • Targets the largest single cause of lost marks
  • Stops when the marks stop moving

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Deira

01

The two years, term by term

Below is the Diploma as a working calendar rather than a prospectus. Dates in it are relative to the school year rather than absolute, because school internal deadlines vary and because IB external dates must come from your own coordinator rather than from any website. What does not vary is the order, and the order is what a family needs in order to plan spending.

The shape is worth stating in words first. DP1 term one has no deadlines and all the opportunity. DP1 terms two and three carry the first internal assessments, the Extended Essay topic decision and, in most schools, the Theory of Knowledge exhibition. DP2 term one is the heaviest period in the programme: Extended Essay completion, the Theory of Knowledge essay, remaining internal assessments, predicted grades and university applications all overlap. DP2 terms two and three are mocks and then revision, where the marginal value of new content teaching falls close to zero.

The single most useful action available to a Deira Diploma parent is to get the school's internal deadline calendar in writing at the start of DP1 and put it somewhere physical. Internal deadlines are what actually bind — an internal assessment due to the teacher in March is the real date, whatever the external submission window says — and they are almost always earlier than families assume. Two internal assessments landing in the same fortnight is normal and foreseeable, and it is foreseeable only if somebody has the calendar.

Use the table to locate your child, then read the spending table further down for what is worth buying from that position.

02

The core counted backwards: TOK, the Extended Essay and CAS

The core is worth up to three points out of 45 and causes a disproportionate share of the stress, because unlike subject content it has no weekly lesson rhythm to carry it. It is supervised rather than taught, which means a student who does nothing for two months is not noticed until a check-in, by which point two months are gone.

The Extended Essay is up to 4,000 words of independent research in a subject the student chooses, with a school-appointed supervisor and a set of internal reflection sessions. Almost every Extended Essay that goes wrong goes wrong on timeline rather than on ability. The workable shape is subject and rough question settled in DP1 term two, supervisor conversations through term three, the bulk of the research done over the summer between the years, and the essay completed early in DP2 term one — before university applications swallow the autumn.

Theory of Knowledge runs across both years, with an exhibition in most schools during DP1 and an essay of about 1,600 words on a prescribed title in DP2. The essay titles are released ahead of the session and the prescribed title choice is the single decision that determines how hard the essay will be. Students pick titles that sound interesting rather than titles they can argue with real examples, and that choice is worth one coaching session on its own.

CAS runs across about eighteen months and is not graded, but it has to be completed and evidenced, and an incomplete CAS portfolio is a genuine risk to the Diploma rather than a minor administrative matter. The only thing a tutor can usefully do here is remind a student that the reflections are the record, and that reflections written in one evening eighteen months late are visibly that.

03

The deadlines inside the deadlines: internal assessments

  • The school's internal deadline is the real one; get all six in writing
  • Expect two or three internal assessments to cluster in a fortnight
  • Question feasibility beats question interest every time
  • One early session on question design prevents the most expensive rescue

Every Diploma subject carries internally assessed coursework, and the dates that bind are the school's, not the board's. A teacher who needs to mark, moderate and submit will set an internal deadline weeks or months before any external window, and that internal date is the one a family should be planning around. Parents who track the external window and ignore the internal one are consistently surprised.

The clustering is the real problem. Six subjects each with coursework means six internal deadlines, and because most schools set them in the same part of DP1 term three and DP2 term one, two or three regularly fall within a fortnight. A student with Chemistry, Mathematics and Economics internal assessments in the same two weeks is not short of ability; they are short of calendar. The fix is entirely preventative: get the dates, lay them out, and move the preparation for one of them forward by a month.

The other recurring error is a research question chosen for interest rather than feasibility. In the sciences this means a question that cannot generate enough quantitative data; in Mathematics, an exploration topic with too little mathematical substance to show genuine engagement; in Economics, a news article that does not actually support a named diagram. All three are discovered late and all three are cheap to prevent, which is why a single session on question design early in the process is the best-value purchase in the Diploma.

What a tutor can do here is bounded and worth stating. They may teach the underlying content, challenge whether a question is answerable with the data available, explain the criteria, mark a completed draft against them, and teach referencing. They may not write, draft, edit to completion or supply data. That boundary is covered properly further down this page.

04

Predicted grades and the university months

Predicted grades are issued by the school on the evidence available at the time, which means the work that earns them happens earlier than most families realise. By the autumn of DP2 a student's predicted grades are largely a function of DP1 attainment and the first internal assessments, and those are the numbers that go on a university application. A family who plans to improve in the spring of DP2 has improved after the application was submitted.

The application calendar compounds this. United Kingdom applications run to a mid-October deadline for certain courses and a main deadline in late January. United States early rounds fall in November with regular rounds in January. Applications to UAE and regional universities have their own schedules, and some require Ministry of Education equivalency documentation that takes time to assemble. All of these sit in DP2 term one, alongside the Extended Essay and the Theory of Knowledge essay.

The planning consequence is clear and almost nobody acts on it. If a particular grade is needed for a particular course, the tutoring that secures the prediction has to happen in DP1 and the first weeks of DP2, not in the final two terms. This is the strongest argument there is for buying one weekly subject early rather than a large block late, and it is the opposite of what most families do.

For students aiming at UAE universities there is a further step. Ministry of Education equivalency has published requirements for the British and American tracks; for the IB there is no points threshold in the sources we can cite, so confirm it on moe.gov.ae or with the emirate's attestation authority. Equivalency is a process the Ministry runs and is not something any tutoring provider performs, guarantees or can speed up.

When in the two years the money is best spent

This is the table that matters, and it is built on a simple observation: the value of a tutoring hour varies enormously depending on when in the Diploma it is bought, and most families buy at the point of maximum anxiety rather than maximum return. The published Dubai bands give the prices; the calendar gives the value.

The bands, with sources, read in October 2026. Budget online generalists advertise from roughly AED 33 to 52 an hour at Tutopiya and AED 45 to 65 at EdFlik. Qualified subject tutors online sit at AED 150 to 300, with Unitors publishing IB from AED 200. Specialists are quoted AED 200 to 450 and above, with TutorChase at AED 270 and Bestimate's Dubai rate table in the same range. BartyED publishes AED 650 at the premium end. In-home visits run AED 180 to 350 per Bestimate and up to AED 500 for independent home tutors, a premium of roughly AED 50 to 150 an hour over the online equivalent that buys proximity and nothing else.

Now apply the calendar. An hour bought in DP1 term one, on the subject that will be hardest, has eighteen months to compound and can change a predicted grade. An hour bought on internal assessment question design costs the same and prevents a rescue worth ten times as much. An hour bought in DP2 term one competes with the Extended Essay and the application for the student's attention and frequently achieves less than the same hour bought a year earlier. An hour bought in the final fortnight competes with revision and usually buys parental reassurance rather than marks.

The honest summary is that the same AED 250 is worth several times more in September of DP1 than in April of DP2. Nobody selling tutoring has an incentive to tell a family that, which is exactly why it belongs on the page.

06

Match time against your deadline

Because the IB is a small share of Dubai enrolment, specialist supply is uneven and this is where a near-me search genuinely fails a Deira family. Mathematics and the sciences at Standard Level can usually be matched quickly. Higher Level sciences take longer. History and Psychology at Higher Level, and Group 2 languages at the right course level, can take a fortnight or more to match properly, and nobody in this market publishes that.

The reason to publish it is that it interacts with the calendar. If an internal assessment deadline is three weeks away and the realistic match time for History HL is two weeks, the honest conversation is about whether the remaining week is worth buying, not about pretending a tutor is available tomorrow. We would rather give a family a date and lose the booking than take the enquiry and fill it with somebody who has taught a different qualification.

Two practical consequences for a parent. First, request early: a DP1 enquiry made in September gets the specialist; the same enquiry in February competes with every other family who left it. Second, be specific: Mathematics AA HL and Mathematics AI SL are different requests, and saying maths produces a slower and worse match than naming the course and the level.

The table below is the shape of supply rather than a live inventory, since availability moves week to week. Ask us for the current position on your exact subject and level and you will get a real answer, including a no with a date attached when that is the truth.

Why this page does not print an IB examination date

Every other page in this search result that mentions timing does so vaguely, and the few that give dates give them without sources. We are going to be explicit about a limitation instead, because a wrong date is worse than no date when a parent acts on it.

IB examination and results dates are published by the International Baccalaureate Organization, and ibo.org blocks automated access, which means no IB session or results date in this project has been confirmed from the IB itself. Secondary sources exist and broadly agree with each other, but broadly agreeing is not the same as verified, and a date that is wrong by a week is a date that could cost a family a flight or a revision plan. So this page states the structure — UAE schools sit the May session, with November available — and sends you to the only two sources that can confirm the specifics: your school's Diploma coordinator and ibo.org directly.

Where dates can be verified they appear on our pages with their attribution. For Pearson Edexcel International GCSE, for instance, the November final timetable ran from late October to 19 November 2026, June 2026 results reached centres on 19 August 2026 and students on 20 August 2026, and November 2025 results reached students on 22 January 2026. Those are checkable. IB dates, at present, are not, and we would rather say so than pad the page.

The practical advice that follows is the same advice an experienced Diploma coordinator would give. Work from internal deadlines, which are the ones that actually bind. Treat the external window as fixed and unknowable in detail until the coordinator confirms it. And plan the revision run backwards from the mock results rather than forwards from a date on a website.

08

The honesty boundary across IA, EE and TOK

At least one operation competing for searches like this sells completed Internal Assessments. The relevant fact for a Deira family is the asymmetry: the fee is paid once, the malpractice finding attaches to the student permanently, and the possible consequence is the loss of the Diploma. The seller carries nothing. No price makes that a reasonable purchase, and this page would be dishonest if it discussed cost without saying so.

Legitimate help is narrower, cheaper and more durable. A tutor may teach the content an assessment rests on. They may question a research question until it is answerable with available data. They may explain the assessment criteria, read them with the student and mark a completed draft against them. They may teach referencing and show how to acknowledge a source properly. They may challenge a method, point out that a data set cannot support a conclusion, and hold a student to a written timeline. For Theory of Knowledge they may help the student test whether a prescribed title can be argued with real examples.

A tutor may not write, draft or edit any part of a submission to completion, supply data the student did not collect, dictate sentences for transcription, or make a product. The working test we apply is whether the student can explain, unprompted, why each sentence and each decision is in the work. If they cannot, it does not belong there.

Stated positively, the help worth paying for is the help that transfers. A student taught to interrogate their own research question will do it again in the Extended Essay, and at university. A student handed a finished internal assessment has bought one grade, learned nothing, and acquired a risk that sits on their record until somebody notices.

Where we tutor

Nearby areas we cover around Deira

Deira's geography shapes the Diploma day in two ways: the commute to a school with IB provision is usually a long one, and the hour at home when a quiet room is free is unpredictable.

Deira

Dense apartment blocks with the Metro Green Line running through. Diploma students here mostly travel south or east to school, and the practical constraint in the evening is a quiet room rather than a free hour.

Al Rigga and Naif

The commercial heart, where households sit above shops and street noise runs late. Weekend mornings and holiday blocks are used more here than weekday evening sessions.

Hor Al Anz and Al Muteena

Residential blocks with a large school-age population and shorter journeys than the rest of the district. A 4:30pm session is sometimes genuinely achievable from this side.

Abu Hail and Al Mamzar

Quieter streets towards the coast, with Deira Private School in that direction. Journey times are shorter and more predictable than for families crossing the Creek twice a day.

Al Qusais and Al Nahda

The adjacent school district with the largest rolls nearby, mostly British and Indian curriculum. Students here heading for the Diploma usually move school at 16, which is its own transition.

Al Garhoud and Dubai Festival City

South of the Creek, carrying the nearest IB Diploma provision at Deira International School and Universal American School. A Deira student travelling here is home around 4pm to 4:30pm.

Bur Dubai and Oud Metha

Across the water, with several long-established schools. For a Deira household this is the longest routine commute in the area, with two Creek crossings a day.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Say which phase, not just which subject

Tell us whether you are in DP1 term one or DP2 after mocks, along with the subject and level. The phase determines what is achievable and often changes the recommendation entirely, including to buying less than you were planning to.

  2. 02

    Send the internal deadline calendar

Ask the Diploma coordinator for every internal assessment deadline, the Extended Essay reflection dates and the Theory of Knowledge submission dates in one list. With that we can plan around the clusters instead of discovering them.

  3. 03

Free trial lesson, one per subject

One free trial lesson per subject before any payment, taken with the most recent marked work open. Ask the tutor to mark a page aloud in mark-scheme language; that single exercise tells you more than any profile or review.

  4. 04

A plan tied to the calendar, not to a session count

The plan names the phase, the target, the school deadlines it is built around and the evidence that will show it worked. If the phase means the honest answer is a short block rather than a term, the plan says that.

  5. 05

    Reviewed at reports and mocks

School reports in DP1 and mock scripts in DP2 are the review points. Each one is also a clean exit with nothing outstanding, because a provider confident in the work does not need a two-year commitment to be paid for a term.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

The programme published as a calendar

Term-by-term across both years, with the core counted backwards and the internal deadlines named as the ones that bind. No competitor page in this market publishes a Diploma calendar, and it is the single thing a DP parent most needs.

We say when not to buy

The value table states plainly that an hour in DP1 term one is worth several times an hour in the final fortnight, and that in the last two weeks you should buy sleep rather than sessions. That costs us revenue and is the correct advice.

No invented IB dates

ibo.org blocks automated access, so no IB session or results date in this project is verified from the IB. We say so and send you to your coordinator, rather than publishing a date you might book a flight around. Dates we can verify are published with their source.

Match times published, including the slow ones

History HL and Group 2 languages can take a fortnight or more to match properly. We publish that against your deadline so you can decide, rather than accepting an enquiry and filling it with somebody who has taught a different qualification.

Online for supply, not just convenience

The IB is roughly 7 per cent of Dubai private enrolment, so specialists are thin everywhere and thinner in one district. Matching online means a Deira student chooses from everyone available rather than from those who will travel into the district at 5pm.

The coursework boundary in writing

We teach, question, mark and coach process. We do not write or draft internal assessments, Extended Essays or Theory of Knowledge work. In a search result containing sellers of finished coursework, that is the first thing a parent should check.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Deira: your questions answered

Which phase of the Diploma is the best value for tutoring money?+

DP1 term one, on whichever subject will be hardest. Content is cumulative, so a gap fixed then has eighteen months to compound in the student's favour, and predicted grades issued in DP2 autumn rest largely on DP1 attainment and the first internal assessments. The same money spent in the final two terms arrives after the predictions have been sent. Most families buy at the point of maximum anxiety rather than maximum return, which is the single most expensive habit in this market.

Why are predicted grades decided so early?+

Because the school issues them on the evidence available at the time, and the applications they support fall in DP2 autumn and winter. United Kingdom applications run to a mid-October deadline for some courses and a main deadline in late January; United States early rounds fall in November with regular rounds in January. That means improvement in the spring of DP2 arrives after the prediction was submitted. If a specific grade is needed for a specific course, the work has to happen in DP1.

When should the Extended Essay actually be finished?+

Early in DP2 term one, with the bulk of the research done over the summer between the two years. The failure mode is almost never ability; it is timeline, because the essay has no weekly lesson to carry it and a student who does nothing for two months is not noticed until a supervisor check-in. A workable shape is subject and rough question in DP1 term two, supervisor conversations in term three, research over the summer, completion before applications swallow the autumn.

How much of the Diploma score comes from the core?+

Up to three points out of a maximum of 45, awarded on the combination of the Theory of Knowledge essay and the Extended Essay. CAS is not graded but has to be completed and evidenced, and an incomplete CAS portfolio is a genuine risk to the Diploma rather than an administrative detail. Three points sounds small until a university offer sits at a total the student misses by two, which is why the core deserves the same planning discipline as a subject.

Two internal assessments are due in the same fortnight. What now?+

That clustering is normal and foreseeable, and the fix is to move one forward rather than to work harder in the fortnight itself. Get every internal deadline from the coordinator in one list at the start of the year, lay them out on a wall calendar, and when two collide start the preparation for one of them a month earlier. If the collision has already arrived, prioritise the assessment with the larger weighting and the one whose data collection cannot be compressed.

Will you tell me when the IB exams are?+

No, and the reason is worth knowing. The IB publishes session and results dates, but ibo.org blocks automated access, so no IB date in this project has been confirmed from the IB itself. Secondary sources broadly agree, and broadly agreeing is not verified. A date wrong by a week is a date a family might book a flight around. UAE schools sit the May session with November available; for the specifics, ask your Diploma coordinator or check ibo.org directly.

How long does it take to find a History HL tutor in Dubai?+

Two weeks or more, realistically, and sometimes longer. History and Psychology at Higher Level, and Group 2 languages at the right course level, are the hardest Diploma subjects to staff in this market. If your deadline is three weeks away, the honest conversation is about whether the remaining week is worth buying rather than about pretending somebody is free tomorrow. Request early: a September enquiry gets the specialist, the same enquiry in February competes with everybody who waited.

What should we do with the time between DP1 and DP2?+

Extended Essay research, and pre-teaching whichever DP2 topics the student is most likely to struggle with. The summer is the only block of the two years with no competing deadlines, morning slots are available, and work done then removes pressure from the heaviest term in the programme. Families who use it well arrive in DP2 with the essay research done and the autumn free for applications. Families who do not spend DP2 autumn doing three things at once.

Is a specialist worth AED 300 an hour for Standard Level?+

Usually not. Standard Level content teaching sits comfortably in the qualified band of AED 150 to 300, where Unitors publishes IB from AED 200, and a strong graduate who has read the syllabus does it well. What the specialist band of AED 200 to 450 and above buys is diagnosis — why a student plateaus at a 5 — and internal assessment supervision, both of which need somebody who has marked against the criteria. Match the band to the job rather than to the subject name.

Can a tutor help choose the Theory of Knowledge prescribed title?+

Yes, and it is one of the best-value single sessions in the Diploma. Titles are released ahead of the session and students pick the one that sounds interesting rather than the one they can argue with real examples from their own subjects and experience. A tutor can test each shortlisted title by asking the student to produce two concrete examples on the spot; the title that survives that test is the one to write. They cannot draft the essay.

Will a tutor come to our building in Deira?+

Not from us. All UAE lessons are online, one-to-one, over live video, and IB Gram does not offer home visits anywhere in the UAE; that is part of our India service. In this district the format solves two real problems: Diploma specialists are scarce and would not reliably travel here at 5pm, and in dense apartment housing the quiet hour moves day to day. In-home tutoring exists in the Dubai market at AED 180 to 500 an hour including travel for families who need it.

My child is three weeks from the exams. What is worth buying?+

Almost nothing, and we will say so. In the final fortnight a student needs sleep, uninterrupted revision time and a sensible paper plan. One session on paper order and question triage can recover marks currently being thrown away by misallocated time. Beyond that, additional sessions compete with revision rather than supporting it, and in our experience they are bought to relieve parental anxiety. The money is better held back for a resit decision if one becomes necessary.

How do mock scripts change the DP2 plan?+

They should drive it entirely. Go through every lost mark and sort it by cause: content not known, method or reasoning not shown in a way the mark scheme credits, or question misread and mistimed. Those three need different work, and most students find the largest category is not the first, which is encouraging because the other two are faster to fix. A plan written from the scripts targets the largest category; a plan written from the syllabus targets everything and moves nothing.

Does a Maths AA or AI decision need to be made before DP1?+

Yes, and against named university requirements rather than against which course looks easier. Analysis and Approaches is algebraic and proof-heavy and is the usual prerequisite for engineering and quantitative economics; Applications and Interpretation is modelling and statistics-led and suits business, design and several social science routes. Some universities specify Analysis and Approaches explicitly. Check the entry requirements of two or three target courses before the choice is confirmed, because changing route mid-programme is disruptive and sometimes impossible.

What does equivalency require for an IB student in the UAE?+

That is the honest gap in the published record. The Ministry of Education requirements we can cite cover the British track — five accredited GCSE or IGCSE subjects at no less than grade E or grade 3, excluding Arabic and Islamic education, plus an Advanced Level pass — and the American track, with English shown by IELTS 5, TOEFL iBT 61 or SAT 450 in reading and writing, and SAT Math of at least 450. No IB points threshold appears in that source, so none is published here. Confirm it on moe.gov.ae or with the emirate's attestation authority.

Is one weekly session enough for a Diploma student?+

In one subject, usually yes, provided it starts early. A Diploma week already contains six subjects, coursework in all of them, the core and CAS, and for a Deira student a long commute each way. One protected weekly slot that survives two years in the hardest subject, plus a short core process block and a post-mock technique block, is a complete plan. Two weekly subjects is manageable in the final year if the evenings are genuinely free. Three is not a plan.

Tell us where you are in the two years

Send the phase, the subject, the level and the next internal deadline, and you will get a recommendation that matches the calendar rather than the anxiety — including, when it is true, that the right purchase is a short block or nothing at all. If you are in DP1 term one, this is the cheapest and most useful moment you will have. The first lesson is free, one per subject, before any payment, and best taken with the most recent marked work open. Lessons are online, one-to-one, over live video, in Gulf Standard Time, and every external date we plan around comes from your coordinator.
