IB Home Tutor in Deira

Parents searching for an IB home tutor in Deira are usually counting weeks, not comparing brochures. IB Gram matches Deira, Al Garhoud and Al Mamzar students with a subject specialist for weekly one-to-one lessons over live video, scheduled in Gulf Standard Time around the school run and the Diploma deadline sheet. Lessons are taught online rather than in your flat, which is what lets a Deira family book an HL Chemistry specialist instead of whoever is free to drive across the creek at half past four.

  • One-to-one lessons over live video, timed to Gulf Standard Time
  • Deira, Al Garhoud and Al Mamzar students matched to subject specialists
  • A free trial lesson before any payment is taken
  • Tutors coach and review a student's own IA work, never write it

IB & IGCSE in Deira

Where a Deira Diploma student actually is this term

A search for an IB home tutor in Deira almost never happens in September. It happens in the second half of a term, after a mock paper has come back, or after a Diploma coordinator has emailed about an Internal Assessment draft that has not arrived. By then the question is no longer whether tutoring helps in general. It is whether the weeks still on the calendar are enough to move a 4 to a 5, or hold a 6 that is slipping, and what has to happen in each of those weeks for that to be true.

That is the frame this page uses. Deira is one of the oldest residential districts in Dubai and one of the most densely built, running from the creek up through Al Muteena and Hor Al Anz towards Al Mamzar. The schools its families use are spread wide: Deira International School sits in Dubai Festival City, Rashid School for Boys in Al Garhoud, several of the large Indian-curriculum schools in Oud Metha and Al Qusais. A Deira student can easily spend fifty minutes a day in a car without leaving a six-kilometre radius, and that single fact decides how many usable study hours a week actually contains.

The Diploma Programme is unforgiving about those hours because its deadlines are internal before they are external. The written papers in the May session are the visible endpoint, but a Diploma student in Dubai meets eight or nine school-set deadlines before them: a Maths Exploration draft, a Chemistry or Physics investigation, a TOK exhibition or essay plan, an Extended Essay first full draft, the reflective sessions that go with it, plus two rounds of mocks. Each of those is a fixed date on a sheet the school issued months earlier. Tutoring that ignores the sheet produces pleasant lessons and no change in grades.

IB Gram works the other way round. The first thing a tutor asks a Deira family for is the school's assessment calendar, and the first session maps the remaining weeks against it: which deadline is closest, which one carries the most marks, which one the student is furthest from meeting. Only then does subject content get chosen. If there are eight weeks until a mock, eight weeks is the plan, and the plan says what each week does. If there are eighteen months until the first paper, the work is different and slower, and the Extended Essay gets started properly rather than rescued.

Lessons are taught online, one to one, over live video. IB Gram does not run home visits in Dubai or anywhere else in the UAE; that is a service offered only in India. For a Deira family this is usually the better arrangement rather than a compromise, and the sections below set out why in numbers: what the in-home market around Al Garhoud charges once travel is priced in, how much of a 60-minute paid hour a crossing of the creek consumes, and how much wider the pool of HL specialists becomes once the twenty-minute drive stops being a constraint.

IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

IB Gram covers the three IB programmes a Deira family is likely to meet, and the support looks different in each. What follows describes what the programme assesses and then what it means specifically for a student living in Old Dubai with a long school commute.

PYPAges 3-12 · Foundation to Year 6

Primary Years Programme

The PYP has no external examinations. Assessment is continuous, organised around transdisciplinary themes and a Year 6 Exhibition that asks a child to run a small inquiry and present it. Tutoring at this stage is about literacy fluency, number sense and the habit of explaining reasoning out loud, because the Middle Years Programme assumes all three. The common gap we see is a child who can compute accurately but cannot yet say why a method works, which is precisely what MYP criteria reward.

Deira families often move a child into a PYP school from a national-curriculum primary where marks came from recall. The adjustment takes a term. Sessions in the late afternoon work better here than evening ones, because a Year 4 or 5 child who left Al Mamzar at seven in the morning is finished by six. Thirty to forty-five minutes twice a week does more at this age than a single long block, and the school's own portfolio comments are the best guide to what needs work.

MYPAges 11-16 · Years 7-11

Middle Years Programme

The MYP marks every subject against four criteria, A to D, each out of 8, and converts the total to a 1-7 grade on a published boundary table. Students lose marks for not answering the command term rather than for not knowing content: a question asking them to evaluate gets described instead. MYP Year 5 ends with the Personal Project, which is externally moderated. Tutoring works best when it is criterion-led, taking one criterion at a time against the student's own marked work.

The MYP-to-Diploma step is the sharpest transition a Dubai student makes, and Deira schools run it at different speeds. A student arriving in DP1 from MYP Mathematics Extended is usually fine; one arriving from Standard has a real algebra and function gap to close in the first ten weeks of DP1. We check this in the trial lesson with four past MYP-style questions, because finding it in October of DP1 is recoverable and finding it in February of DP2 is not.

DPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

Diploma Programme

Six subjects, three at Higher Level and three at Standard, plus Theory of Knowledge, the Extended Essay and CAS. Each subject carries an Internal Assessment worth roughly 20 to 25 per cent of the final grade, marked by the teacher and moderated by the IB. The written papers in the May session decide the rest. The Diploma rewards students who treat the IA as a graded piece of coursework with criteria, and punishes those who treat it as an essay to finish the week before it is due.

UAE schools sit the May session, and that shapes the whole Dubai Diploma calendar: mocks in the winter and early spring terms, IA deadlines clustered before them, Extended Essay final submission earlier still. A Deira DP2 student with a long commute has roughly twelve usable weekday evening hours a week for all six subjects plus core. Tutoring that adds hours without removing anything fails. We plan which subject gets the hour and what the student stops doing to free it.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

These are the Diploma and MYP subjects Deira families request most often, with a note on what each one actually assesses and where marks go missing. The description is deliberately about assessment rather than topic lists, because that is where a tutored hour earns its place.

Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches

HL and SL

AA is the proof-and-algebra route. SL sits Papers 1 and 2; HL adds Paper 3, a two-question extended investigation worth 20 per cent of the HL grade and the component HL students are least prepared for. Marks are lost on unjustified steps and on calculator work shown without method.

Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation

HL and SL

AI is modelling and statistics led, with the graphic display calculator assumed throughout. The frequent failure is treating it as the easy route: AI HL statistics and the HL Paper 3 investigation are demanding, and several engineering courses still expect AA. Route choice belongs in DP1, not DP2.

Physics

HL and SL

Mechanics and fields carry the paper weight; HL adds depth rather than new habits. Students lose marks in Paper 2 by giving a numerical answer without the relationship it rests on, and in the investigation by collecting data before deciding what the uncertainty analysis will look like.

Chemistry

HL and SL

Energetics, equilibrium and organic mechanisms are where HL grades separate. The scientific investigation needs a measurable, controllable variable chosen in week one; most weak IAs are weak because the research question was unanswerable, not because the write-up was poor.

Biology

HL and SL

A content-heavy course where recall is necessary but not sufficient. Extended-response marks come from using the command term exactly, and data-based questions reward students who read the axes and the control before the trend. HL biochemistry and genetics need spaced revision from DP1.

Economics

HL and SL

Diagrams carry the marks. A correctly labelled and explained diagram answers most of a Paper 1 question; an unlabelled one answers none of it. The three commentaries use published news articles and are marked on application of theory, not on the quality of the journalism chosen.

English A: Language and Literature

HL and SL

Paper 1 is guided textual analysis of unseen non-literary text, which is a trainable skill rather than a talent. The Individual Oral links a global issue to two texts and is internally assessed, so it rewards rehearsal against the criteria far more than it rewards a clever topic.

Business Management

HL and SL

Tools such as the Ansoff matrix and break-even analysis must be applied to the stimulus, not recited. HL students are assessed on a research project built on primary or secondary evidence about one real organisation, which needs a focused question agreed early in DP2.

Theory of Knowledge

Core, all DP students

The TOK exhibition and the prescribed-title essay together contribute to the three bonus points alongside the Extended Essay. Essays fail when they describe a knowledge question instead of arguing about it. Coaching here is structural: claim, counterclaim, real example, implication.

Extended Essay supervision support

Core, all DP students

A 4,000-word independent research essay in one subject, with three recorded reflective sessions. A tutor can help narrow a research question, test whether the sources exist and review structure and argument against the published criteria. The essay itself has to be the student's own writing.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three formats, chosen by how much calendar is left rather than by preference. A family eighteen months from the first paper should buy something different from a family eight weeks out, and the price of getting that wrong is a term.

Weekly one-to-one, built on the school deadline sheet

The default for DP1 and the first half of DP2. One or two 60-minute online sessions a week in a fixed slot, with the term mapped against the school's own assessment dates. Work between sessions is set as specific past-paper questions or IA tasks with a due date, and the tutor marks them to the published criteria so the student sees the same language the moderator will use.

  • Fixed weekly slot in Gulf Standard Time, agreed around the school run
  • Term plan written backwards from the next school-set deadline
  • Work marked against the official assessment criteria, not a private rubric
  • Short written note to parents after each session on what moved and what did not

Eight-week run-in to mocks or the May session

An intensive block for DP2 students who need measurable movement inside a fixed window. Two or three sessions a week, each anchored to a past paper done under timed conditions beforehand. The plan is written in weeks: diagnostic, two topic-repair weeks, a paper-technique week, then alternating full papers and targeted repair. Nothing new is taught in the final fortnight; the work is entirely on marks lost to method.

  • Timed paper before each session, marked and returned with a per-question diagnosis
  • Two or three sessions a week for a defined number of weeks, then it ends
  • Priority on the components with the largest weighting still in play
  • Last two weeks spent on question technique and exam-day process only

Coursework coaching for the IA, EE and TOK essay

Short, targeted sessions around the internal deadlines, which in a Dubai Diploma year mostly fall well before the written papers. The tutor helps narrow a research question, checks whether the data or sources actually exist, reads a draft against the published criteria and tells the student which criterion is costing marks. The writing, the data collection and the final edits stay the student's own work.

  • Research question tested for feasibility before any data is collected
  • Draft feedback given criterion by criterion, with the letter named
  • Reflective session preparation for the Extended Essay process
  • Clear limits set in writing on what the tutor will and will not do

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Deira

01

What a Deira parent is actually asking in week eight of term

  • Next deadline on the school sheet, and how many weeks to it
  • Last marked grade, and the gap to target in marks rather than letters
  • Which paper or criterion the lost marks are concentrated in
  • How many evening hours a week the commute actually leaves free

Searching for an IB home tutor in Deira is usually a question about time, not about tutoring. The real question is whether the weeks left before the next school-set deadline are enough, and what has to happen inside each of them. The honest answer depends on two things a parent can check in ten minutes: which deadline comes next on the school's assessment calendar, and how far the student's last marked piece of work sat from the grade they need.

Those two facts decide everything else. A DP1 student eleven months from any external paper, sitting two grades below target in HL Chemistry, has room to rebuild the subject from the foundations up, and should. A DP2 student six weeks from a mock with the same gap does not have that room, and spending those six weeks on foundations would be a mistake. The work there is narrower and more mechanical: find the four topics that account for most of the lost marks, repair those, and spend the rest of the time on how the paper is answered.

This is also why the first session is a diagnostic rather than a lesson. A tutor reads the student's most recent marked paper or IA draft, the school's deadline sheet and the mark breakdown per question, then says what the remaining weeks can realistically deliver. Sometimes that answer is less than a parent hoped. Saying so at the start is more useful than discovering it in April, and a Deira family losing fifty minutes a day to the bridges cannot afford to spend a term finding out.

02

The Diploma year counted backwards from the first paper

Almost no competitor page for this search names a single deadline. That is the gap worth filling, because the Diploma is a sequence of internal dates long before it is an examination. UAE schools sit the May session, so a Dubai Diploma calendar runs from the written papers backwards through two mock windows, a cluster of Internal Assessment deadlines, the Extended Essay final submission and the TOK components. Every one of those dates is set by the school, published in advance, and recoverable only if it is seen coming.

The table below counts the DP2 year backwards in relative weeks rather than in calendar dates, because each school in Dubai sets its own internal deadlines and a date copied from another school's sheet is worse than no date at all. IB examination and results dates are not published here: ibo.org is the only authority for those and should be checked directly with the school's IB coordinator, who holds the confirmed session timetable for the cohort.

Read the table as a planning instrument. The point of counting backwards is that it tells a family when tutoring stops being able to change an outcome. Work on an Internal Assessment is valuable up to the school's submission date and worth nothing after it, and the IA carries roughly a fifth to a quarter of the subject grade. A family that starts in the autumn still has every component in play. A family that starts after the final IA submission has only the written papers left, which is a smaller lever.

What in-home IB tutoring costs around Deira, and what the travel pays for

Start with the cheapest option and work up, because that is the order a budget actually gets built in. University-student and generalist online tutors advertise from the bottom of the Dubai market: EdFlik publishes rates from AED 45 to 65 an hour and Tutopiya from roughly AED 33 to 52. A qualified subject tutor working online is the next band up, with Unitors publishing IGCSE tuition from AED 150 and IB from AED 200. Above that sit IB and IGCSE specialists at AED 200 to 450 and beyond, with TutorChase publishing AED 270, and a premium named or examiner tier reaching AED 650 at BartyED.

In-home one-to-one is priced differently, and the difference is travel. Bestimate's Tutoring Cost Dubai 2026 rate table puts in-home visits at AED 180 to 350, with independent home tutors quoting 200 to 500 once the journey is included. Monthly packages seen in this market run around AED 799 for eight online sessions and AED 1,599 to 1,799 for four two-hour in-home sessions. Bestimate's monthly estimates for a single weekly hour are AED 240 to 600 at the budget end, 600 to 1,200 mid-market and 1,000 to 2,000 or more for specialist exam-year support.

A Deira parent can verify most of this without taking anyone's word for it. Ask two local providers for a written hourly figure, ask whether it includes travel, and ask how long the tutor expects the journey to take at half past four. The arithmetic that follows is the useful part: a tutor crossing Al Garhoud Bridge in the afternoon school peak is pricing a round trip of forty to seventy minutes into the hour, and that cost appears either as a higher rate or as a shorter taught hour. Figures here are market rates from the sources named, not IB Gram prices; our own model starts with a free trial lesson and a consultation.

A tutor in a Deira flat against one-to-one online

IB Gram does not offer home visits in Dubai or anywhere else in the UAE, so this comparison is not a sales device; it is the reason the service is built the way it is. A Deira family choosing between the two formats is really choosing between proximity and specialism, and in a district shaped by two bridges and a creek those two things pull hard against each other.

Consider what the geography does to a tutor's catchment. A tutor willing to travel to an apartment in Hor Al Anz for a 5pm session has to be somewhere between Al Mamzar and Oud Metha at four. That is a small pool, and it gets smaller the more specific the requirement becomes: not just a maths tutor but an AA HL tutor comfortable with Paper 3, or a Chemistry tutor who has supervised investigations through moderation. Online delivery removes the drive from the equation entirely, and the pool becomes every specialist available at that hour in Gulf Standard Time.

The format also changes what a session can contain. Marked work, a past paper and the student's IA draft can be on a shared screen with annotation, saved and sent after the lesson, which means the next session starts where the last one finished rather than with twenty minutes of re-establishing context. A recorded explanation of a worked Paper 1 question can be rewatched the night before a mock. None of that is possible across a dining table, and it matters more in the Diploma than in earlier years because the volume of written feedback is so much larger.

Mock season in Dubai IB schools, and what a mock actually tells you

Dubai Diploma schools usually run two mock windows in DP2, and parents tend to read the grade and nothing else. The grade is the least useful part. What matters is the per-question mark breakdown, because that is the only thing that tells you whether marks were lost to missing content, to misread command terms or to running out of time, and each of those needs a different fix over the following weeks.

The pattern repeats across subjects. A student who scores well on the first two-thirds of a paper and collapses on the last third has a timing problem, and no amount of extra content teaching will touch it. A student scattering small losses across every question is usually losing method marks: an answer without working, a unit omitted, a graph without labelled axes. A student who fails whole questions on two specific topics has a content gap that is genuinely repairable in a fortnight. The first lesson after a mock should be spent diagnosing which of those three is happening rather than reteaching the paper.

Mock grades also sit lower than final grades more often than not, because the full syllabus may not be finished and because the student has not yet done the volume of past papers that the final run-in produces. That is worth knowing in both directions: a disappointing mock is not a prediction, and a comfortable mock is not a guarantee of anything. No tutor can promise a grade, and anyone selling a specific number from a mock result should be questioned closely. What a tutor can do is convert the mark breakdown into a weekly plan with a named target per week.

06

The eight weeks that decide an Internal Assessment

  • Test three research questions for feasibility before choosing one
  • Decide the uncertainty or reliability analysis before collecting anything
  • Draft reviewed against the published criteria, criterion letter named
  • Referencing and word count checked against the subject guide, not guessed

Every Diploma subject carries an Internal Assessment worth roughly 20 to 25 per cent of the grade, marked in school and moderated by the IB. Most weak IAs are decided in the first fortnight, not the last. A research question that cannot be answered with the data a Dubai school student can actually collect produces a mediocre mark however well it is written up, and the single most valuable hour of coursework coaching is the one spent testing feasibility before anything else begins.

A workable eight-week shape looks like this. Week one: three candidate research questions, each tested for whether the data or sources exist and whether the method is controllable. Week two: method fixed, variables and uncertainties decided in advance of collection. Weeks three and four: collection or research, with a mid-point check that the data is usable. Week five: analysis against the criteria. Week six: first full draft. Week seven: criterion-by-criterion feedback, with the letter named, and revision by the student. Week eight: final checks on referencing, word count and presentation, submitted before the school deadline.

What the tutor does not do is also a plan. The tutor does not collect the data, write any section, or edit the prose into its final form. That boundary is not a disclaimer; it is what keeps the mark valid and the student out of a malpractice investigation. Feedback is given as a question about a criterion: what evidence supports this conclusion, which uncertainty dominates here, why is this source reliable for this claim. The student answers it in their own words, in their own file, and the mark stays theirs.

07

Where a tutor must stop on the IA, Extended Essay and TOK essay

This is the line that separates tutoring from the essay services visible in the same search results. One provider in this market advertises completed Internal Assessments for sale. Buying one is academic misconduct under IB rules, it puts the student's entire Diploma at risk, and it is an easy thing for a teacher who knows the student's written voice to spot. A tutor teaches, questions, reviews and gives feedback. A tutor does not produce the work.

In practice the boundary is clear once it is written down. A tutor may explain what a criterion rewards, show an exemplar published by the IB, ask why a conclusion follows from the data, point out that a section is descriptive where the criterion asks for evaluation, and check that referencing follows the subject guide. A tutor may not supply a research question as a finished product, write or rewrite paragraphs, carry out the analysis, or hand over a document the student then submits. The same applies to the Extended Essay and the TOK essay, where the reflective sessions and the supervisor's own comments form part of the assessment record.

IB Gram also does not reproduce or distribute IB, Cambridge or Pearson syllabus documents, past papers, mark schemes or grade boundary tables. Those belong to the boards. Tutors reference them, link to the official source and work from material the school has legitimately provided. Published subject guides and assessment criteria are where feedback language should come from, and students are better served by learning to read those documents themselves than by receiving a summary of them.

08

Ramadan, the shortened school day and the Deira revision block

Ramadan falls inside the Diploma run-in, and in Dubai it changes the shape of a school day rather than pausing it. Hours shorten, the afternoon is quieter, and the productive study window for a fasting student usually moves to after Iftar. A tutoring plan written in September without that in it will collide with it, and the collision lands in exactly the weeks before the second mock window when there is least room to lose time.

The practical answer is to plan the term in two halves. Before Ramadan, front-load the heavy cognitive work: new content, the hardest topics, the IA analysis that needs sustained concentration. During Ramadan, shift to shorter and later sessions, more past-paper technique and less new material, and accept that two 45-minute sessions after Iftar will do more than one 90-minute block in the late afternoon. Deira families with long Sharjah-side commutes often find the post-Iftar slot is the only genuinely quiet hour in the household.

The UAE academic calendar matters in the same way. Winter and spring breaks are when a determined student can gain real ground, and also when families travel; a plan that assumes four uninterrupted weeks in January will not survive contact with reality. Online delivery helps here, since a booked slot can follow a student to another time zone if the family agrees the adjusted hour in advance. What does not work is leaving the break unplanned and hoping, then arriving at the second mock three weeks behind.

09

Starting mid-term in Deira, and what happens if the slot you want is gone

  • Send the latest marked paper and the school's assessment calendar first
  • Free trial lesson doubles as the diagnostic, before any payment
  • Written week-by-week plan with a named target per week
  • Honest answer on availability, including when the answer is no

Most Deira families start tutoring in the middle of a term, which means the first job is triage rather than a curriculum plan. The sequence is short: send the student's most recent marked work and the school's assessment calendar, take a free trial lesson that functions as a diagnostic, then agree a written plan in weeks with a named target for each. If the plan does not survive the first fortnight, it gets rewritten; a plan nobody revises is a plan nobody is using.

Availability is where most providers go quiet, so here is the honest position. Weekday slots between four and six in the afternoon Gulf Standard Time are the most contested hours on the platform, because every Gulf family wants them. Common Diploma subjects are usually matchable within a few days. Niche combinations take longer: HL Further Mathematics, a less-taught Group 2 language, or a specific subject at HL combined with a narrow slot can mean a wait, a different hour, or an honest recommendation to look elsewhere. We would rather say that than place a general tutor in a specialist seat.

If no specialist is free for the hour a family needs, there are three routes and all three get offered openly: take an adjacent hour, start with a diagnostic block and a planned handover once the specialist opens up, or wait. The one route we do not take is assigning whoever is available and describing them as a specialist. A Deira parent eight weeks from a mock has no time to discover in week three that the match was wrong, and the cost of that discovery is not measured in dirhams.

Where we tutor

Nearby areas we cover around Deira

IB Gram works with families across Old Dubai. Because lessons are delivered online, the practical difference between these areas is not tutor availability but when a session can start, which depends on the school run and which side of the creek the school sits on.

Al Garhoud

Close to Rashid School for Boys and a short run to Dubai Festival City. Families here often manage a 4:30pm start on three days a week, which makes Al Garhoud one of the easier Deira sub-areas to schedule around.

Al Mamzar

Northern edge of Deira against the Sharjah boundary. Al Ittihad Private School sits here. Evening sessions after six are more realistic than late-afternoon ones, because the return leg crosses the Sharjah commuter flow.

Hor Al Anz

Dense mid-Deira residential grid with a mix of Indian, British and IB school destinations. Siblings often attend different schools in different districts, so household scheduling rather than traffic is the binding constraint here.

Al Muteena

Older apartment blocks between Salahuddin and Abu Baker Al Siddique. Study space at home is usually a shared room, which is a real argument for a fixed, booked online slot rather than ad hoc revision.

Al Qusais

East of Deira towards Sharjah, home to several large private schools including Westminster and The Indian Academy. Students here are frequently the ones moving from a national curriculum into MYP or IGCSE, then into the Diploma.

Oud Metha

Across the creek on the Bur Dubai side, with St Mary's Catholic High School and The Indian High School. Many Deira-resident students attend here, which adds a Garhoud or Maktoum Bridge crossing to every weekday afternoon.

Bur Dubai and Al Mankhool

The other half of Old Dubai, reached by the Shindagha and Al Maktoum crossings. IB and British curriculum options are closer together here, and session timing is driven by the bridge rather than the distance.

Al Nahda

On the Dubai-Sharjah line, so afternoons are shaped by the Al Ittihad Road queue. Post-seven sessions are standard for families here, and online delivery removes the problem of a tutor arriving inside that same queue.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in Deira

Dubai Festival City, Al Garhoud and Al Mamzar

This cluster carries most of the IB and British-curriculum demand on the Deira side of the creek. Deira International School runs the Diploma; the others feed into IGCSE and A Level, which still produces Diploma students when families move schools at 16. Students we support attend schools in this cluster.

  • Deira International School
  • Rashid School for Boys
  • Al Mawakeb School, Al Garhoud
  • Al Ittihad Private School, Al Mamzar
  • Deira Private School

Oud Metha, Al Mankhool and the Bur Dubai side

A short bridge crossing from Deira and the destination for a large share of its students. The mix here is Indian curriculum, British curriculum and Catholic-foundation schools, so a single Deira household often spans two examination systems and two different deadline calendars in the same term.

  • St Mary's Catholic High School
  • The Indian High School, Oud Metha
  • Dubai Gem Private School
  • Ambassador School, Al Mankhool

Al Qusais, Al Nahda and Muhaisnah

The eastern corridor towards Sharjah, with large-roll private schools and the longest afternoon journeys of any Deira sub-area. Students here most often arrive asking for help with a curriculum transition rather than with a single topic, and the first weeks of tutoring are spent closing an algebra or academic-writing gap.

  • The Westminster School
  • The Indian Academy
  • The Sheffield Private School
  • Al Sadiq Islamic English School

Schools are named here only to describe the local education context for Deira families; no affiliation, partnership or endorsement is implied or held.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Send the marked work and the deadline sheet

Two documents do more than any enquiry form: the student's most recent marked paper or IA draft, and the school's assessment calendar for the term. Together they show the gap in marks rather than letters, and the date by which it has to close. A Deira family can usually find both in the school portal in five minutes.

  2. 02

Free trial lesson as a diagnostic

A 45 to 60 minute online session with the proposed tutor, free and before any payment. The tutor works through two or three questions from the student's own paper to locate where marks are going, then says what the remaining weeks can realistically achieve. If the match is wrong, this is where it is caught.

  3. 03

Agree a plan written in weeks

The plan names the next school-set deadline, the weeks available, and what each week is for. It also names what the student stops doing to free the hour, because a Deira weekday evening is already short. Parents receive it in writing, and it is revised whenever a mock or an IA result changes the picture.

  4. 04

    Weekly sessions with written feedback

A fixed slot in Gulf Standard Time, with set work between sessions marked against the official criteria. After each lesson the parent gets a short note on what moved and what did not. Annotated screens and worked solutions are saved, so revision in the final fortnight draws on the student's own corrected work.

  5. 05

Review at each deadline, not at the end

Every school-set deadline is a checkpoint: did the plan deliver what it promised, and what changes for the next block. After a mock the per-question breakdown is read properly and the plan rewritten around it. At the end of a block the honest options are continue, reduce or stop, and stopping is a legitimate recommendation.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

The calendar comes before the content

Tutoring that ignores a school's own deadline sheet produces pleasant lessons and unchanged grades. Every plan here starts from the next date the school has set and works backwards, which also makes it obvious when tutoring can no longer change a particular component and the honest advice is to put the hour somewhere else.

Specialists, because the drive is not a constraint

Online delivery means a Deira student is matched to an HL specialist who has taken that subject through moderation, rather than to whoever can reach Hor Al Anz by five. In a district shaped by two bridges, that single change widens the available pool more than anything else a family can do.

AED figures published with their source

Three of six ranking pages in this market publish no price at all, and the two that do quote in US dollars. Market rates here are given in dirhams with the publisher named and the month they were read, so a parent can check them. None of them is an IB Gram price list.

A written line on academic honesty

Coursework coaching is defined in writing before it starts: what the tutor will read, question and feed back on, and what stays entirely the student's own work. One competitor in this search sells completed Internal Assessments. Knowing exactly where the line sits protects the mark and the Diploma.

Honesty about availability

Late-afternoon Gulf Standard Time slots are the most contested hours on the platform and niche HL subjects are not always matchable in a given week. Families are told that before they pay, with the three real options set out, rather than discovering it after a general tutor has been placed in a specialist seat.

Regulation explained, never borrowed

KHDA inspects Dubai private schools and MoHRE issues the private tuition work permit. Both are described on this page so a parent can check a tutor's position themselves. Neither regulator approves individual tutors, and IB Gram claims no KHDA, MoE or IB accreditation of any kind.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Deira: your questions answered

We are eight weeks from the next mock and live in Deira. Is it worth starting IB tutoring now?+

Eight weeks is enough to move marks, but only if the plan is narrow. In that window the work is not rebuilding a subject; it is finding the three or four topics where most marks are being lost, repairing those, and spending the rest of the time on how the paper is answered. The trial lesson looks at the student's last marked paper and says which of those two problems is dominant. If the gap is wide and spread across the whole syllabus, we say so rather than sell a block that cannot deliver.

Does IB Gram send an IB home tutor to a flat in Deira or Al Garhoud?+

No. IB Gram does not run home visits anywhere in the UAE; in-home tutoring is a service offered only in India. For families in the UAE every lesson is one to one over live video, scheduled in Gulf Standard Time. The URL you arrived on uses the phrase parents search for, and this page answers the in-home question honestly, including what the local market charges for a visit. The practical trade is proximity against specialism, and in a district split by the creek, specialism usually wins.

What does an in-home IB tutor charge around Deira and Dubai Festival City?+

Market figures, not ours. Bestimate's Tutoring Cost Dubai 2026 table puts in-home one-to-one at AED 180 to 350 an hour, and independent home tutors quote AED 200 to 500 once travel is included. In-home monthly packages of AED 1,599 to 1,799 for four two-hour sessions appear in the same market. Online specialist rates published by others sit at AED 200 to 450, with TutorChase at AED 270. Ask any provider in writing whether travel is inside the quoted hour; the answer explains most of the gap.

How many weekly sessions does a DP2 student usually need in the run-in to the May session?+

Two or three a week in a single subject is typical for an intensive block, and one a week for maintenance in a subject that is already close to target. The constraint in Deira is rarely money and almost always evening hours: a student losing fifty minutes a day to the bridges has roughly twelve usable weekday evening hours for six subjects plus core. Adding sessions without removing something else produces a tired student and no gain, so the plan names what stops as well as what starts.

Can a tutor work to our school's own Internal Assessment deadlines rather than a generic plan?+

That is the starting point rather than an option. The first thing a tutor asks for is the school's assessment calendar, because Dubai schools set their own internal deadlines and they differ by weeks between institutions. The term plan is then written backwards from the nearest date on that sheet. It also tells us when a component has closed: once an IA has been submitted, no amount of tutoring changes that mark, and the hour is better spent on a paper that is still in play.

When should a Deira Diploma student start thinking seriously about the Extended Essay?+

Earlier than most do. The Extended Essay is 4,000 words of independent research in one subject with three recorded reflective sessions, and in a Dubai school the final submission usually falls early in DP2, before the first mock window. Starting it in DP1 means the research question can be tested for feasibility while there is still time to change it. Starting it two months before submission means writing around whatever sources happen to be available, which is the most common reason a capable student lands a C.

Can a tutor review my daughter's Maths Exploration draft without breaching academic honesty?+

Yes, within clear limits. A tutor may explain what each criterion rewards, show an IB-published exemplar, ask whether a conclusion follows from the working, and point out where a section describes instead of analysing. A tutor may not write or rewrite any part of it, supply the research question as a finished product, or do the mathematics on the student's behalf. Feedback is given as questions about named criteria, which the student answers in her own file. That boundary keeps the mark valid and the Diploma safe.

What time can an online IB session realistically start for a family near Al Mamzar?+

For most Al Mamzar and Al Nahda households, after six works better than four thirty. The return leg from schools on the Bur Dubai side or in Oud Metha crosses the Sharjah-bound commuter flow, and a 4:30pm slot becomes a 4:50pm start on two days in five. Al Garhoud families, closer to Festival City, manage earlier slots more easily. Because delivery is online there is no tutor sitting in the same traffic, so the only variable is when the student is actually home and fed.

Do mock results at Dubai IB schools predict the final Diploma grade?+

Not reliably, and in both directions. Mocks often sit below final grades because the syllabus may not be finished and because the student has not yet done the volume of timed past papers the final run-in produces. A comfortable mock is equally not a guarantee. The useful part of a mock is never the grade; it is the per-question mark breakdown, which shows whether marks went to missing content, misread command terms or poor timing. Those three need completely different work over the following weeks.

How do Ramadan hours change an IB revision plan for a fasting student in Old Dubai?+

Plan the term in two halves. Before Ramadan, front-load the demanding work: new content, the hardest topics, the IA analysis that needs long concentration. During Ramadan, move to shorter, later sessions after Iftar, favour past-paper technique over new material, and accept that two 45-minute blocks will achieve more than one 90-minute one in the late afternoon. For many Deira households the post-Iftar hour is the only genuinely quiet one, and booking it in advance is what keeps it.

Is a specialist HL Physics or HL Chemistry tutor available for a Deira student, or only general science tutors?+

Specialists, and that is the main reason delivery is online. A tutor who has to reach Hor Al Anz by five comes from a pool bounded by the afternoon traffic; a tutor joining over video comes from everyone free in that Gulf Standard Time slot. For HL sciences this matters because the investigation and the HL extension topics need someone who has taken that subject through moderation. If no HL specialist is free for the hour you want, we say so and offer an adjacent hour rather than substituting a generalist.

Which permit must a private tutor in Dubai hold under Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023?+

The MoHRE private tuition work permit, introduced by that resolution. It is granted free of charge for two years, and eligible applicants include teachers registered in government or private schools, government and private-sector employees, unemployed individuals, school students aged 15 to 18 and university students. Individuals tutoring without it are subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws; no fine schedule is published, so no figure should be quoted at you. Applications go through the MoHRE smart app and e-services. Never describe a tutor as KHDA approved, because KHDA does not approve individual tutors.

What happens to our booked sessions if the family travels out of Dubai during the winter break?+

The slot can follow the student, provided the adjusted hour is agreed in advance rather than improvised. This is one of the practical advantages of online delivery: a Deira family spending three weeks abroad can keep two sessions a week at a time that works in the new zone, or pause deliberately and resume on a stated date. What causes damage is leaving the break unplanned, because the weeks after it usually contain a mock window and arriving three weeks behind is difficult to recover.

Will an IB Diploma satisfy UAE Ministry of Education equivalency requirements?+

Equivalency is decided by the Ministry of Education, not by a tutoring provider, and the published numbers differ by curriculum. For the British track the requirement is five accredited subjects at GCSE or IGCSE with a grade of no less than E or grade 3, plus one accredited subject at Advanced Level at E or two at Advanced Subsidiary Level, with Arabic and Islamic education excluded from the five. No IB points threshold is published here because we have not read one on moe.gov.ae. Verify your child's position with the Ministry directly.

Start from the next date on your child's deadline sheet

If you are searching for an IB home tutor in Deira, the fastest useful step is not a comparison of providers. It is opening the school portal, finding the next assessment deadline, and sending it to us with the student's most recent marked paper. The free trial lesson is a diagnostic: a specialist tutor works through two or three questions from that paper, locates where the marks are going, and tells you what the remaining weeks can realistically achieve. Lessons run one to one over live video in Gulf Standard Time, scheduled around the school run. If the honest answer is that the window is too narrow for the target, you will hear that first.
