IGCSE Home Tutors in the UAE

Families searching for IGCSE home tutors in the UAE are usually trying to price a decision, not book a stranger. The market advertises roughly AED 180 to AED 500 an hour once a visiting tutor's travel sits inside the fee, and roughly AED 150 to AED 300 for a qualified subject tutor working over video. This page publishes those bands with their sources, explains what moves the number, and says plainly how IB Gram teaches: one-to-one, over live video, timed to Gulf Standard Time.

  • One-to-one IGCSE lessons over live video, timed to Gulf Standard Time
  • Every AED figure on this page carries its source and the month it was read

IB & IGCSE in the UAE

Pricing an IGCSE tutor is an arithmetic problem before it is a teaching one

A UAE parent searching for IGCSE home tutors is almost never asking whether tutoring exists. They have a report card with eight or nine subjects on it, two or three of them wrong, a quote in their inbox, and no way of telling whether AED 200 an hour is generous or careless. The published market gives them very little help. Of the competitor pages measured for this project in October 2026, three of six publish no price at all, and the two that do quote US dollars, a currency no family in Dubai or Abu Dhabi actually transacts in.

So this page starts with the number. Across advertised UAE rates read in October 2026, a university-student or platform tutor working online sits between AED 45 and AED 150 an hour. A qualified subject tutor working online sits between AED 150 and AED 300. A visiting tutor who drives to a villa in Mirdif or Khalifa City sits between AED 180 and AED 500 once travel is absorbed into the fee, with a rate aggregator's Dubai 2026 table putting the common in-home band at AED 180 to AED 350. Named specialists advertise upwards of AED 500. None of those are IB Gram prices; they are what the market publishes, and they are the backdrop any quote you receive has to be read against.

The reason the band is so wide has almost nothing to do with teaching quality and almost everything to do with structure. The IGCSE timetable is wide where the Diploma is deep: a Year 11 student typically carries eight to ten subjects, not six, which means the budget question is not how much per hour but how many of those subjects deserve an hour at all. The tier your child was entered for caps what a grade can reach. The board decides when entries close and therefore when demand for hours spikes. And the UAE adds its own lines: Arabic, Islamic Education and Social Studies run alongside the licensed curriculum in every Dubai private school, which is teaching time already inside the fee you pay.

The value argument for teaching over live video is not that it is cheaper, although it usually is once travel stops being billable. It is that it decouples the tutor from the drive. A family in Al Ain looking for Cambridge IGCSE Computer Science 0478 is not choosing from the people who will cross town for an 8pm Tuesday; they are choosing a specialist in that syllabus and scheduling around Gulf Standard Time. That changes the match before it changes the invoice.

What follows is the whole cost structure, with the sources attached. Where a figure comes from a provider page or a rate table, the page says so and gives the month. Where a figure is not verifiable, the page does not print one: that applies to exam entry fees, which are set by the centre rather than published centrally, and to penalty amounts under the tutoring permit regime, which the ministry has not published.

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Four stages matter to the cost conversation, because the money behaves differently in each one. Spending in Year 9 buys foundations cheaply. Spending in Year 11 buys exam technique expensively. The stage your child is in should decide the shape of the block you book.

LSECAges 11-14 · Years 7-9

Lower Secondary and Checkpoint

The three years before an IGCSE option form is signed. Cambridge Lower Secondary Checkpoint tests run in March, May and October, and the results are the cheapest early-warning system a parent gets. A child whose Checkpoint maths sits below the class median is the child who will be offered the Core tier in Year 10, and that offer is far easier to argue with before it is made than after.

In the UAE this stage is where Arabic streams diverge. KHDA requires separate classes for Arabic as a first language and Arabic as an additional language, and prohibits combining the two groups, so a non-Arab child who arrives in Year 8 enters a different Arabic pathway from an Arab classmate at the same desk. Families who sort that out at the start spend nothing on it later.

Cambridge IGCSE

Eight to ten subjects sat as separate qualifications, several of them tiered into Core and Extended papers. Syllabus codes matter more than subject names once money is involved: Mathematics 0580 and International Mathematics 0607 are different courses with different papers, and a tutor booked for the wrong one is an hour spent in the wrong place. Cambridge runs a June and a November series, plus a March series with its own key dates.

Cambridge allocates every centre to one of six administrative zones, and warns that it cannot accept responsibility for a candidate who misses a paper after the wrong zone timetable was used. Two UAE schools in different zones can sit the same paper on different days. Before buying exam-term hours, get the zone timetable your child's centre actually follows rather than the one a search result offers.

IGCSE 9-1Ages 14-16 · Years 10-11

Pearson Edexcel International GCSE

The other board a UAE school may enter, graded 9 to 1, with its own codes: 4MA1 for Mathematics, 4PH1 for Physics, 4BI1 for Biology. Some Pearson qualifications allow units to be sat across more than one series, which spreads both the risk and the spending rather than loading everything onto one fortnight. Papers are not interchangeable with Cambridge papers, and nor is the past-paper practice.

Pearson offers International GCSE in May/June and November each year. The November 2026 final timetable ran from late October to 19 November 2026, and November 2025 results reached students on 22 January 2026. Pearson publishes provisional timetables ahead of each series, so a UAE family planning a winter resit should work from the live PDF on the Pearson site rather than last year's dates.

What the IGCSE grades buy next

IGCSE grades are entry tickets, and that is the honest case for spending on them. Sixth-form maths and the sciences assume Extended-tier content, so a Core pass can close a door that costs far more to reopen later. This is the stage where the Ministry of Education equivalency file also starts to matter, because the British track asks for A Level or AS Level results on top of the IGCSE count.

For the British track, reporting in July 2026 set out one accredited subject at Advanced Level at grade E or better, or two at Advanced Subsidiary Level at the same grade, alongside five accredited GCSE or IGCSE subjects at no less than E or grade 3. Verify the current wording on moe.gov.ae before planning around it, and treat any provider offering to arrange equivalency for a fee with scepticism.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

Ten subjects where UAE families most often buy IGCSE hours, each with the syllabus code and a note on what the money is actually being spent on. The pattern worth noticing: the cheapest grade moves come from marking discipline, the dearest from content that was never learned in Year 10.

Mathematics (Cambridge 0580, Pearson 4MA1)

Core and Extended

The highest-volume request in the UAE and the one where paid hours repay fastest, because most lost marks are procedural rather than conceptual: method marks forfeited by missing working, bounds and rounding, and the algebraic manipulation questions late in Paper 4. An hour spent marking a past paper against the published scheme usually finds more marks than an hour of re-teaching.

International Mathematics (Cambridge 0607)

Core and Extended

Not 0580 with a different cover. It carries a graphics-calculator requirement and an investigation paper, and a tutor who prepares a student for 0580 Paper 4 has prepared them for the wrong assessment. Confirm the code on your child's statement of entry before booking a block, because this is the single most common wasted-hours mistake in UAE maths tutoring.

Physics (Cambridge 0625, Pearson 4PH1)

Core and Extended

Electricity, moments and the practical component are where the grade is decided. Cambridge offers an alternative-to-practical written paper, which is examinable technique rather than laboratory skill: reading a scale, identifying a control variable, explaining an anomalous point. That makes it genuinely teachable over video, and it is usually the cheapest marks on the paper.

Chemistry (Cambridge 0620, Pearson 4CH1)

Core and Extended

Moles and stoichiometry carry the arithmetic, organic chemistry carries the memory load, and qualitative analysis carries the practical marks. A student who can balance an equation but cannot convert between mass, moles and concentration is losing marks in a narrow, diagnosable band, which is the sort of problem a short paid block fixes well.

Biology (Cambridge 0610, Pearson 4BI1)

Core and Extended

The most volume-dependent of the three sciences and the one where tutoring is most often bought too late. Marks go on command-term discipline rather than knowledge: describe against explain, the difference between a trend and a reason, and the structured long-answer questions where a correct idea written in the wrong register earns nothing.

First Language English (Cambridge 0500, Pearson 4EA1)

Single tier

Directed writing and the extended response reward a mark-scheme-aware structure that very few students arrive with. The value here is unusual: a handful of hours on how the criteria are applied often moves a grade further than a term of general reading, because the student already has the vocabulary and is losing marks on shape.

English as a Second Language (Cambridge 0510 and 0511)

Core and Extended

Widely taken across the UAE, and the subject where tier choice has the clearest consequence for a Ministry of Education equivalency count. The reading comprehension and summary tasks are heavily technique-driven, so sessions are best spent on timed extraction and paraphrase rather than on conversation practice the school already provides.

Economics (Cambridge 0455)

Single tier

Diagram accuracy and the data-response paper decide the grade. Students lose marks drawing an unlabelled axis or an unshifted curve, then lose more by evaluating without ever reaching a judgement. Both failures are correctable in a short block, which makes Economics one of the better-value late additions to a revision plan.

Business Studies (Cambridge 0450)

Single tier

The case-study paper punishes generic answers. A candidate who can define cash flow but cannot apply it to the named firm in the stimulus will sit in the middle of the grade range all year. Paid hours here are about application discipline, and progress is visible on a marked paper within two or three sessions.

Computer Science (Cambridge 0478)

Single tier

Thin on the ground in the UAE in-home market, and a clear illustration of why a visiting tutor is a narrower pool than an online one. Pseudocode conventions, trace tables and the practical problem-solving paper need a specialist in this syllabus, not a general IT teacher, and families outside Dubai often cannot find one within driving distance at any price.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three ways UAE families buy IGCSE hours, priced by what each one is actually for. The pattern that works is to start narrow and short, prove the hours are doing something measurable, then widen. Every format below is one-to-one or small-group teaching over live video.

A four-hour diagnostic block

The cheapest way to find out whether tuition is the right purchase at all. Four sessions on one subject, built around a past paper marked against the published scheme, which produces a list of where marks are actually going. Families who do this first often buy fewer hours overall, because two of the three subjects they were worried about turn out not to need paid help.

  • One subject, one syllabus code, four one-to-one sessions
  • A marked past paper with the marks attributed by question
  • A written list of the specific losses, not a general impression
  • A decision point at the end rather than a rolling commitment

Weekly one-to-one through the term

The standard arrangement, and the one the market's monthly packages are built around: online packages advertised at AED 799 for eight sessions, in-home packages at AED 1,599 to AED 1,799 for four two-hour visits. Booked by the term rather than by the month, a weekly slot holds the same tutor and the same hour, which matters more to a Year 11 timetable than the per-hour rate does.

  • One or two subjects, same tutor, same slot each week
  • Scheduling in Gulf Standard Time, after the commute rather than during it
  • Session notes a parent can read without a progress meeting
  • Pause and resume around school mock weeks and Eid

Exam-term intensive, counted in papers

For the eight to twelve weeks before a series, where the unit of planning is papers sat rather than topics covered. Rates across the market tend to firm up in this window because demand does, which is an argument for booking the slot early rather than paying more for it late. The plan works backwards from the centre's zone timetable, not from a generic calendar.

  • A full past paper every week, marked and attributed
  • Command-term drilling on the subjects where register costs marks
  • Alternative-to-practical technique for Cambridge science candidates
  • A fixed end date, so the spending has a floor and a ceiling

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in the UAE

01

What the UAE market charges for IGCSE support, and what sits inside the number

  • Ask for the rate per 60 minutes, in writing, before any block is agreed
  • Ask which syllabus code the tutor teaches: 0580 and 0607 are not interchangeable
  • Ask whether travel, materials or administration appear as separate lines
  • Refuse any permit, licensing or registration fee: the MoHRE permit is free

An IGCSE tutor in the UAE is advertised between roughly AED 45 and AED 650 an hour, and the single number a family needs is which part of that range applies to them. Read in October 2026: platform and university-student tutors advertise from AED 45 to AED 150 online; a qualified subject tutor advertises AED 150 to AED 300 online; a visiting tutor who absorbs travel into the fee advertises AED 180 to AED 500, with a Dubai rate aggregator putting the common in-home band at AED 180 to AED 350. Named specialists publish rates above AED 500.

What separates those tiers is not effort. It is three things a parent can check. Whether the tutor teaches the exact syllabus code on the statement of entry, or the subject in general. Whether the hour is a 60-minute hour or a 45-minute school period, which changes the real rate by a third without changing the headline. And whether travel is inside the fee, because a visiting arrangement is buying a journey as well as a lesson, and the journey is the least educational thing on the invoice.

One figure that should never appear anywhere in a quote is a permit cost. The UAE private tuition work permit, introduced under Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, is granted free of charge for two years, and MoHRE's own service page lists no fee and a two-working-day completion time. A provider adding a licensing or registration line to a first invoice is charging you for something that costs them nothing. The same goes for exam entry fees, which are set and billed by the exam centre rather than by any tutor.

02

Nine subjects, one budget: the triage that comes before the first invoice

This is the structural difference between IGCSE and the Diploma, and it is the part no competitor page addresses. A Diploma student has six subjects, so a worried parent can plausibly consider tutoring all of the weak ones. A Year 11 IGCSE student carries eight to ten separate qualifications. At market rates, buying a weekly hour in four of them runs past AED 3,000 a month before anyone has looked at whether four tutors were needed.

The triage that works starts from the mark, not the mood. For each subject, write down where the grade sits, then write down what is holding it there. There are only a few real answers. Content never learned, which is expensive and slow. Technique and mark-scheme register, which is cheap and fast. Volume of practice, which costs nothing but time. Or a tier or code mismatch, which no amount of tutoring fixes because the problem is on the entry form.

Done honestly, the list almost always collapses. Two subjects are losing marks to technique and will move inside a month. One has a genuine content hole from Year 10 and needs a proper block. The rest need past papers and a quiet room. That is a plan with one or two paid subjects in it rather than four, and it is why the diagnostic block is the first thing worth buying: it converts a vague worry about nine subjects into a short written list of where marks are actually going.

03

The grade you are moving from decides what the hour is worth

Tutoring is priced by the hour and valued by the move, and those two things are not proportional. Moving a student from a 4 to a 6 is usually a matter of recovering marks they are already close to earning: method marks, command-term register, diagram labels, the arithmetic in a multi-step question. Those are dense, teachable and visible fast. Moving a student from a 7 to a 9 means competing for the marks that discriminate at the top of the paper, which are fewer, harder and far less responsive to a weekly hour.

That has a direct consequence for how a family should spend. If the budget covers one subject, put it where the gap between current and achievable is widest and the cause is technique. If the budget covers two, do not spread them across a strong subject and a weak one out of fairness; the strong subject will move least per dirham. And if a provider is quoting a premium rate on the grounds that your child is near the top of the range, ask what specifically it buys, because scarcity of top-end specialists is a real cost and a reputation premium is not.

The honest limit on all of this is that nobody can promise a grade. No tutor controls grade boundaries, the question paper, or what happens in the hall. What a tutor can be held to is evidence: that marks are moving on marked papers, by question, over weeks you can count. Any quote that leans on a promised outcome rather than a described method should be read carefully, and any provider offering a grade guarantee is selling something it cannot deliver.

04

Core or Extended: the tier decision, priced

Tiered Cambridge IGCSE syllabuses offer two routes through the same subject, and the route decides the grade range available before a single lesson is bought. The Core papers award a restricted upper range; the Extended papers reach the top grades. Check the tier for each subject on the syllabus page at cambridgeinternational.org and on your child's statement of entry, because the two sometimes disagree and the statement is the one that counts.

Priced, the decision cuts both ways. An Extended entry carries more content and usually more hours, so it is the more expensive route to support. But a Core entry that was accepted passively is the most expensive thing on this page, because the cost of it arrives two years later when a sixth-form maths or science course assumes Extended content the student never met. Reopening that door means a resit series, a second set of entry fees and a term of catch-up.

The practical point is timing. Tier is fixed by the entry, and entries close long before the papers: Cambridge final entries for the March 2027 series were due on 27 November 2026, against an exam period of 3 February to 4 March 2027. A tier conversation in Year 10, backed by Checkpoint results and a marked past paper, is free. The same conversation after the entry deadline is not a conversation at all. If you are going to spend one unpaid hour on your child's IGCSEs this year, spend it reading the statement of entry.

Cambridge or Pearson Edexcel: the same subject, two spending calendars

A UAE family rarely chooses the board; the school has. But knowing which one you are in changes when money should be spent, because the two run different clocks. Cambridge International examines IGCSE in a June and a November series, with a March series carrying its own key dates, and allocates every centre to one of six administrative zones with its own timetable version. Pearson examines International GCSE in May/June and November, and publishes provisional timetables ahead of each series.

The dated example is worth having in front of you. For the Cambridge March 2027 series: final entries 27 November 2026, exam period 3 February to 4 March 2027, forecast grades due 27 February 2027, results released on Direct on 13 May and certificates in late June. The spending implication is blunt. The decision that mattered most - subjects, tier, whether to enter at all - had to be made in November, ten weeks before the first paper and nearly six months before results.

Pearson's calendar creates a different option. Its November series gives a second window inside the same academic year, and November 2025 results reached students on 22 January 2026, which means a resit can be marked and in hand before a sixth-form application closes. For some qualifications, units can be sat across more than one series, which spreads both the exam risk and the tutoring spend instead of concentrating everything into one fortnight in June. Check the live timetable PDF on the board's own site before you plan a term around any of it.

A visiting tutor and an online hour are not the same purchase

This page is about IGCSE home tutors because that is the phrase UAE parents type, and it deserves a straight answer. A visiting arrangement in the Emirates is advertised at roughly AED 180 to AED 500 an hour with travel absorbed, and monthly in-home packages run at AED 1,599 to AED 1,799 for four two-hour visits. What a family gets for that is a lesson plus a journey, delivered by whoever is willing to make the journey.

IB Gram does not operate that way in the UAE. Lessons here are one-to-one over live video, scheduled in Gulf Standard Time; visiting tutors are a service offered only in India. That is a limit stated plainly rather than hidden behind a booking form, and the argument for it is about the pool rather than the price. A family in Al Ain who needs Cambridge IGCSE Computer Science 0478 is not choosing between specialists when they hire locally - they are choosing among the people within driving distance, which in several emirates is nobody at all.

There are real things an in-home arrangement does better. A younger child who cannot yet manage a screen session alone, a household with unreliable connectivity, a student whose focus holds better with someone physically present: those are genuine reasons, and a family weighing them should weigh them honestly. For an exam-year IGCSE candidate working on marked papers and syllabus-specific technique, though, the trade is usually the other way, and the table sets out exactly what each format is buying.

Where IGCSE tutoring money gets wasted in the UAE

  • Paying to re-teach content when the loss is command-term register
  • A permit, licensing or registration fee: the MoHRE permit costs the tutor nothing
  • Past papers, mark schemes or subject guides sold as a resource pack
  • A fee to arrange Ministry of Education equivalency on your behalf
  • Small-group sessions priced at the one-to-one rate per student
  • A monthly package covering a month with Eid and a mock fortnight in it

Waste in this market is rarely fraud. It is usually a family paying a fair rate for the wrong thing. The commonest version is paying to re-teach content the school is teaching anyway, in a subject where the student is losing marks on register rather than knowledge. The second commonest is paying for a subject that needed past papers and a quiet evening, while the subject with the real content hole goes untutored because it felt less urgent.

Then there are the charges that should not be there at all. The MoHRE private tuition work permit is free of charge for two years, so no permit or licensing line belongs on an invoice. Boards' past papers, mark schemes, grade-boundary tables and subject guides are copyright material that a provider should be linking you to on the official site, not selling as a resource pack. Nobody should be charging a fee to arrange Ministry of Education equivalency, which is a process families complete through the official channel themselves.

The last category is the most expensive and the quietest: paying for weeks that are not teaching weeks. A month containing Eid, a school mock fortnight or a half-term break does not contain four usable sessions, and a package bought by the month absorbs that difference silently. Pay by the term with the teaching weeks counted, or by the session, and the arithmetic stays yours. Ask for the teaching-week count in writing before a package is agreed; a provider who will not give you one is telling you something.

Five subjects at grade 3 or E: what the equivalency file changes about the budget

The Ministry of Education equivalency file is where IGCSE spending decisions and UAE university access meet, and almost no competitor page mentions it. On the British track, reporting in July 2026 set out that students must pass five accredited subjects in GCSE or IGCSE certificates at a grade no less than E or grade 3, alongside one accredited subject at Advanced Level at grade E or better, or two at Advanced Subsidiary Level at the same grade.

The detail that changes a budget is what is excluded. Arabic and Islamic education are not counted among the five required subjects. A family buying weekly Arabic tuition in the belief that it strengthens the equivalency count is spending in a place the count does not look, and the same money moved to a tiered science or to Mathematics 0580 would be working on a subject that does count. One page currently ranking in this market states that UAE candidates must take six IGCSE subjects; the sourced figure is five.

Two cautions belong with that. The first is that this is a regulatory process that changes, and it should be verified on moe.gov.ae or with the attestation authority in your emirate before any plan is built on it; this page describes it and points you there rather than performing it. The second is that no amount of tutoring is required for equivalency, and any provider implying otherwise is manufacturing urgency around a government procedure. There is no published IB points threshold we can verify, so this page prints none.

Ramadan, Eid and paying for weeks that are not teaching weeks

The UAE academic year does not deliver four identical teaching weeks a month, and a tutoring budget built as though it does leaks money. Ramadan shortens the school day. Eid removes a week. Mock fortnights fill the evenings a student would otherwise revise in. A June Cambridge series or a late-October Pearson series sits at a fixed distance from all of that, and the revision has to fit around it rather than the other way round.

Handled well, this is a scheduling question rather than a cost increase. During Ramadan, sessions move to post-Iftar slots, which for many families produce better concentration than a 5pm session on a shortened school day ever did. Across Eid, the sensible move is to pause rather than compress, then resume with the same tutor in the same slot. In a mock fortnight, the single most valuable hour is spent marking the mock paper that has just come back, because it is the most recent evidence anyone has.

The practical rule is to count teaching weeks before agreeing a block, and to put the count in writing. A twelve-week term containing Eid and a mock fortnight is not twelve sessions. A family that books ten and keeps two in reserve for the week a paper comes back marked will spend less and get more than a family that bought twelve and lost three to the calendar. This is also the honest answer to whether rates rise before a series: demand firms up, so the slot is worth booking early.

WHAT A UAE MONTH ACTUALLY CONTAINS, AND WHAT YOU SHOULD BE PAYING FOR IN IT
Period in the UAE yearWhat happens to the teaching weekWhat is worth bookingWhat you should not be paying for
September to November, Year 10Full weeks, low pressure, cheapest hours of the whole courseA diagnostic block and the tier conversation before entries closeWeekly hours in a subject that only needs practice
Mock fortnightEvenings consumed by revision for school-set papersOne session per subject on the marked mock when it returnsA full weekly schedule the student has no time to prepare for
RamadanShortened school day; concentration shifts laterPost-Iftar one-to-one slots at the normal rateA compressed schedule squeezed into the shortened afternoon
Eid and half-term breaksNo school week at allA pause, or one catch-up block by agreementA monthly package that silently covers the gap
Eight weeks before the seriesEvery evening is contested; demand for slots firms upA fixed slot booked early, counted in papers not topicsA late premium for an hour that could have been reserved in autumn

What a tutor may not sell you, at any price

  • A tutor teaches, explains criteria, models technique and gives feedback on the student's own draft
  • A provider selling finished coursework is selling an academic-integrity risk, not a service
  • No individual tutor is approved or accredited by KHDA, ADEK, SPEA, Cambridge or Pearson
  • Ask for evidence behind any examiner claim, and discount it if none arrives

Some of what is for sale in this market should not be bought. There are providers advertising finished coursework and completed assessed pieces to IGCSE and Diploma students in the Gulf, priced in the thousands of dirhams. What a family is buying there is a malpractice risk attached to their child's name, and the exposure sits with the candidate, not the seller. A board that identifies work which is not the student's own can withdraw a grade and, in the IB's case, a whole certificate.

The line a legitimate tutor works inside is clear enough to put in writing. A tutor may teach the content, explain what a criterion is asking for, model the technique on a different question, and give feedback on a draft the student produced. A tutor may not supply text that ends up in a portfolio, may not hand over a finished piece, and may not sit alongside a controlled assessment. Where a school's deadline is on Friday, the answer is feedback on Wednesday on what the student has written, not a replacement.

Two related claims belong in the same bin. A provider describing its tutors as approved by a regulator or a board is describing something that does not exist for individual tutors: KHDA's educational services permit is issued to training institutes with premises, and the MoHRE permit is a work authorisation, not a quality mark. And a tutor described as an examiner should be able to evidence it, because examiner status is often used to imply access to marking standards and boundaries that no individual can offer.

11

Six paid hours in: what you should be able to see

The weakest part of most tutoring arrangements is that nobody agreed what success would look like. Six hours is enough to answer the question if the evidence was specified in advance. What a parent should have after six sessions is not a feeling that things are better. It is a marked past paper with the marks attributed by question, a comparison against an earlier paper of the same type, and a short written list of what is still losing marks.

Three signals say the money is working. Marks are recovering in the band the diagnostic identified, not in general. The student can say what a command term is asking for and show the difference between a describe answer and an explain answer on their own script. And the tutor's notes are specific enough that you could hand them to a different teacher and they would know where to start. If all three are present after six hours, extend the block. If none are, change something before buying twelve more.

The reverse is worth saying too. If a subject was triaged in and turns out not to need paid hours, stop paying for it. Dropping a subject from the plan after four weeks is a sign the triage worked, not that the money was wasted. The point of starting with one diagnostic block in one subject, rather than four weekly slots across four, is that it keeps every decision reversible while the evidence is still cheap to collect.

Where we tutor

What the same IGCSE hour costs in each emirate

Geography changes a tutoring bill in the UAE in two ways: travel time that a visiting tutor has to price in, and the depth of the local teaching pool. Both get worse the further you are from Dubai. Neither affects a lesson taught over live video.

Dubai

The deepest pool and the tightest market. KHDA oversees 227 private schools serving 387,441 students in 2024-25, with 37% on a UK curriculum, so Cambridge and Pearson IGCSE tutors are easier to find here than anywhere else. A cross-city evening journey is still an hour of someone's time that lands inside an in-home fee.

Abu Dhabi

ADEK licenses and accredits private schools in the emirate, and its professional-ethics rules bar school staff from paid tutoring of students at their own school. Practically, that removes the convenient option many families assume exists, and in Khalifa City or Al Reef the remaining visiting pool is small enough to carry a premium.

Al Ain

Also ADEK territory, and far enough from both coasts that specialist subjects simply do not have a local in-home market. Families here routinely find Chemistry 0620 or Computer Science 0478 unavailable at any travel rate, which is the clearest case in the country for teaching over video rather than by car.

Sharjah

The Sharjah Private Education Authority regulates private education in the emirate and approves tuition fees, curricula, programmes, courses, activities and assessment methods. Many families work in Dubai and live here, so a 4pm session is unrealistic on a weekday; a 7.30pm online slot after the commute is the one that survives a term.

Ajman and Umm Al Quwain

Private schools in both emirates are supervised by the federal Ministry of Education rather than a local authority. The in-home IGCSE market is thin to the point of absence for sciences and computer science, and competitor pages across this whole SERP mention neither emirate at all, which tells you how much local supply there is.

Ras Al Khaimah

The Department of Knowledge regulates private education in RAK and, like SPEA, approves fees and curricula. The driving distance from Dubai means a visiting specialist would price two hours of travel into a one-hour lesson. Online scheduling removes that line from the quote entirely.

Fujairah

Ministry of Education territory on the east coast, and the furthest a UAE family can be from a dense tutoring market. For a tiered subject where the Extended papers need a subject specialist, the realistic choice here is a live video lesson or nothing, and the rate should reflect teaching rather than mileage.

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in the UAE

Dubai UK-curriculum cluster

The largest concentration of Cambridge and Pearson IGCSE candidates in the country, and the reason Dubai has the deepest subject-specialist pool. Students we support attend schools across this cluster. Rates quoted to families here tend to sit in the middle of the advertised band, because supply is real and comparison is easy.

  • Jumeirah English Speaking School

Abu Dhabi and Al Ain cluster

Schools under ADEK oversight, where IGCSE candidates sit alongside a large British-curriculum cohort. Families here report a narrower visiting-tutor market than Dubai, especially for Extended-tier sciences, and ADEK's ethics rules close off the option of paying a child's own classroom teacher for evening lessons.

Sharjah and the Northern Emirates cluster

Schools under SPEA, the RAK Department of Knowledge and the federal Ministry of Education. The IGCSE cohort is substantial but geographically spread, so the local in-home market cannot staff every syllabus. This is where online delivery stops being a preference and becomes the only way to reach a 0478 or 0607 specialist.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Say which codes, not which subjects

Send the statement of entry or the last report with the syllabus codes on it: 0580 or 0607, 0620 or 4CH1, Core or Extended. A code tells us which specialist to look for and which past papers to mark. A subject name tells us almost nothing, and is how families end up paying for the wrong assessment.

  2. 02

    Triage before you buy

We go through the timetable subject by subject and separate content gaps from technique losses from subjects that only need practice. The output is a short list of which one or two subjects repay paid hours this term, which is usually fewer than the family arrived expecting.

  3. 03

A trial lesson on the real material

One lesson with the matched tutor, using your child's own marked work rather than a generic assessment, before any block is confirmed. It exists so you can judge the match on evidence. If the fit is wrong, we match again rather than asking you to make it work.

  4. 04

Book the block in teaching weeks

Sessions are scheduled in Gulf Standard Time around the school day, the commute and Ramadan timings, and the block is counted in teaching weeks rather than calendar months so Eid and mock fortnights do not quietly absorb sessions you have paid for.

  5. 05

Review on marked papers at six hours

At the six-hour mark we look at a marked paper against an earlier one of the same type, with the marks attributed by question. That conversation ends in one of three decisions: extend the block, change the focus, or stop paying for this subject because it no longer needs the hours.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

The rates are on the page, with sources

Three of six competitor pages measured in October 2026 publish no price at all, and the two that do quote US dollars. Every AED band here carries where it came from and the month it was read, so a quote you receive can be compared against something rather than taken on trust.

Matched on the syllabus code

Mathematics 0580 and International Mathematics 0607 are different courses with different papers, and Cambridge and Pearson sciences are not interchangeable. Tutors are matched to the code on the statement of entry, which removes the single most common source of wasted IGCSE tutoring hours.

Online delivery stated, not implied

Lessons for UAE families are one-to-one over live video, timed to Gulf Standard Time. Visiting tutors are a service IB Gram offers only in India. You know which product you are buying before you book, rather than discovering the delivery model after a deposit has moved.

Reach beyond the driving radius

A family in Fujairah, Umm Al Quwain or Al Ain choosing an in-home tutor is choosing from whoever will travel. Teaching over video replaces that constraint with a subject constraint, which is how an Extended-tier Chemistry or a 0478 Computer Science specialist becomes reachable at all.

Fewer paid subjects, chosen deliberately

A Year 11 timetable carries eight to ten qualifications, and tutoring all the weak ones is how a budget disappears. Triage puts the hours where the gap is widest and the cause is fixable, and takes subjects off the plan when the evidence says they do not need paying for.

The honesty line in writing

Tutors teach, explain criteria, model technique and give feedback on work the student has produced. Nobody supplies text for a portfolio or hands over a finished piece. That is a boundary worth stating plainly in a market where completed assessed work is openly advertised.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in the UAE: your questions answered

We have been quoted AED 180 and AED 450 for the same IGCSE subject. Which quote is right?+

Both can be legitimate, because they are usually selling different things. Read in October 2026, the UAE market advertises AED 150 to AED 300 for a qualified subject tutor working online and AED 180 to AED 500 for a visiting tutor with travel inside the fee. Ask three questions before deciding: is the rate per 60 minutes or per 45-minute period, which syllabus code does the tutor actually teach, and is travel being billed. A higher figure is only better value if it buys a specialist in the exact code on your child's statement of entry.

My son takes nine IGCSE subjects. How many should we actually pay for tuition in?+

Usually one or two at a time, not four. A Diploma student has six subjects, so tutoring every weak one is at least arithmetically possible. A nine-subject Year 11 timetable is not: weekly hours in four subjects at market rates passes AED 3,000 a month. Triage each subject by what is holding the grade there. Content gaps need a block. Command-term register needs a handful of hours. Volume of practice needs time, not money. Most families find two subjects genuinely need paid support and the rest need past papers and a quiet evening.

Does a grade 4 to grade 6 move cost the same as a grade 7 to grade 9 move?+

No, and the difference is large. A 4 to a 6 is mostly about recovering marks the student is already close to earning: method marks, diagram labels, answering describe when the question says describe. Those are dense on the paper and respond quickly. A 7 to a 9 competes for the discriminating marks at the top, which are few and much less responsive to a weekly hour. If one subject is funded, put the money where the gap is widest and the cause is technique, not where the child is already strong.

Is the quoted IGCSE rate per 60-minute hour or per school period?+

Always ask, in writing, because a 45-minute period billed as an hour raises the real rate by about a third without changing the headline figure. Market comparisons across the UAE are published per hour, so a per-period quote is not comparable to them until you convert it. The same applies to any package: ask how long a session is, how many sessions the month contains, and how many of those weeks are actually teaching weeks once Eid, half-term and the mock fortnight are taken out.

Should we pay for Arabic tuition to strengthen the Ministry of Education equivalency file?+

Not for that reason. Reporting in July 2026 on the UAE equivalency requirements stated that Arabic and Islamic education are not included among the five accredited GCSE or IGCSE subjects the file counts. If Arabic needs support for its own sake, that is a separate decision, and the mandatory stream is in any case taught and assessed inside your school fee under KHDA's requirements. Money moved from Arabic to Mathematics 0580 or a tiered science is working on a subject the count actually looks at. Verify the current rules on moe.gov.ae before planning around them.

Our daughter is on the Core tier in Maths. Is paying for Extended-level tuition wasted money?+

It is misaimed while the entry stands, because the Core papers award a restricted upper grade range however well she is taught. The useful spend is on the tier conversation itself: bring a marked past paper to the school before the centre's final entry deadline and ask what evidence would support an Extended entry. Cambridge final entries for the March 2027 series were due on 27 November 2026, against papers in February, so this is a Year 10 and early Year 11 decision. Once the entry closes, tutoring should target the papers she is actually sitting.

How much is the IGCSE exam entry itself, and who sets that figure?+

Entry fees are set and billed by the exam centre rather than published as a single national figure, so any page quoting you one number is guessing. A school normally bills entries with term fees. A private candidate pays the centre's own published candidate fee, which varies by centre and by subject. Ask your child's exams officer for the per-subject figure in writing before deciding how many subjects to enter, and treat it as a separate budget line from tutoring. No tutor should be charging an entry fee on your behalf.

Is small-group IGCSE tuition genuinely better value than one-to-one?+

It can be, on one condition: the students are on the same board, the same syllabus code and the same tier, and are losing marks in roughly the same place. Two Extended 0580 candidates both forfeiting method marks will learn well together. A Core candidate and an Extended candidate in the same hour means one of them is in the wrong lesson. Watch the pricing too: a group rate should be per student and visibly below the one-to-one rate, and a group session priced at the individual rate is simply a higher margin.

Does the hourly rate for IGCSE support rise as the exam series gets closer?+

Demand firms up, and so do slots. In the eight to twelve weeks before a series, the evenings a Year 11 student can use are contested, and the specialists in scarce codes fill up first. The practical answer is not to hunt a discount in February but to reserve the slot in autumn, when the same tutor and the same hour are available and the cheapest teaching weeks of the whole course are still ahead. A family that books the slot early is buying availability as much as a rate.

Should a provider charge us for IGCSE past papers and mark schemes?+

No. Board syllabuses, past papers, mark schemes, grade-boundary tables and subject guides are copyright material belonging to Cambridge and Pearson, and a provider should be pointing you to the official site rather than selling a resource pack. What you are legitimately paying for is the teaching around that material: a paper marked against the published scheme with the losses attributed by question. If a resource charge appears on an invoice, ask what it covers and where the material came from.

The private tuition permit is free, so why does a permitted tutor charge more?+

Because the permit is a legal authorisation, not a quality mark. The UAE private tuition work permit was introduced under Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, is granted free of charge for two years, and MoHRE's own service page lists no fee and a two-working-day completion time. Eligible applicants include registered school teachers, government and private-sector employees, unemployed residents, university students and students aged 15 to 18. So a rate difference reflects subject expertise and experience, never permit cost, and no permit or licensing line belongs on your invoice.

We have eight weeks before the first paper. What is a sensible amount to spend now?+

Enough for one subject, properly, rather than a little for three. Eight weeks supports a weekly session plus a full past paper in the subject where marks are most recoverable, which is usually the one losing method marks or command-term register rather than the one with a content hole from Year 10. Spend the first session on a marked paper so the remaining seven have a target. Spreading the same budget across three subjects in eight weeks generally produces three sets of notes and no measurable change on any paper.

Does a Pearson Edexcel entry spread the cost more evenly than Cambridge?+

Sometimes, and it is worth checking against the specification. Pearson examines International GCSE in May/June and November each year, and some qualifications allow units to be sat across more than one series rather than all at once, which spreads the exam risk and the tutoring spend. Cambridge runs June and November series plus a March series, each as a complete set of papers, so support tends to concentrate into one block. Neither is better; they just ask for money at different times. Your school has usually already chosen the board.

If we pay for a term and the match turns out to be wrong, what happens?+

That is a question to settle before any money moves, in writing. Ask what happens to unused sessions, whether a rematch costs anything, and how many sessions' notice a change needs. The trial lesson exists so the match is tested on your child's own marked work first, which is cheaper than finding out in week five. Treat any provider that will not put the rematch terms in writing as a risk, and be cautious of outcome-linked refund offers, since no tutor controls grade boundaries or the paper itself.

Does IB Gram send an IGCSE tutor to our address anywhere in the Emirates?+

No. For families in the UAE, IGCSE teaching is delivered one-to-one over live video, scheduled in Gulf Standard Time around the school day, the commute and Ramadan timings. Visiting tutors are a service IB Gram offers only in India. The reason is the size of the pool: outside Dubai, the in-home market cannot staff syllabuses such as Computer Science 0478 or International Mathematics 0607 at any travel rate, while a video lesson is matched on the code rather than on the postcode.

How do we tell after a month whether the tutoring is worth the money?+

Agree the evidence before the first paid hour. After about six sessions you should have a past paper marked against the published scheme with the marks attributed by question, a comparison against an earlier paper of the same type, and a written list of what is still losing marks. Your child should also be able to show, on their own script, the difference between a describe answer and an explain answer. If those are present, extend the block. If none are, change the focus or the tutor before buying another twelve hours.
