IB Tutor near me in Palm Jumeirah

Searching for an IB tutor near me in Palm Jumeirah returns a short list, and the short list is the problem rather than the answer. Families here commute off the island for school, the trunk road decides every evening, and the number of adults within a twenty-minute drive who can teach your child's exact Higher Level subject is often zero. This page answers that honestly: what proximity actually buys, how to test whether somebody knows the syllabus, and how IB Gram delivers lessons - one-to-one, live online, on Gulf Standard Time.

IB & IGCSE in Palm Jumeirah

The honest answer to a proximity search

A parent typing IB tutor near me in Palm Jumeirah is asking a reasonable question and will get a misleading answer. Search engines treat proximity as a proxy for suitability, which works for a dentist and fails for a Diploma subject specialist. The Diploma is six subjects across six groups, each available at two levels, plus three core components, which is well over fifty distinct teaching jobs. The chance that the right one of those fifty lives within a short drive of the island is small, and the chance that a search result reflects it is smaller still.

Palm Jumeirah sharpens this more than most addresses in Dubai. Families here commute off the island for school, mostly westward into Al Sufouh and Al Barsha or eastward along the coast into Jumeirah and Al Safa. The island has one trunk road, one monorail and a fixed set of exits, so an evening journey in either direction is predictable and slow. Any tutor who agrees to make that journey at six o'clock is pricing it in, and the pool willing to make it is defined by willingness to drive rather than by subject expertise.

So the useful reframing is this: stop asking who is near, and start asking who teaches the thing. If your child needs Higher Level Chemistry, there may be a handful of people in the emirate teaching the current course well, and none of them will be on the Palm. If your child needs Standard Level Economics, the pool is wider but still not local. Once the question is about the subject, the island stops being a constraint and becomes irrelevant, which is the better position to be in.

This page is built to answer the proximity question properly rather than to dismiss it. It sets out what each drive-time band from Palm Jumeirah actually reaches, and what the tutoring pool at that radius contains. It explains the six subject groups and what a non-specialist typically misses in each. It covers the core - Theory of Knowledge, the Extended Essay and CAS - which is where a great deal of Diploma anxiety sits and which almost no local tutoring advertises. It publishes what the Dubai market charges in AED with sources attached. And it sets out what a tutor may and may not do with assessed work.

The delivery position, stated once and plainly. Tutoring for UAE families is one-to-one and live online, scheduled in Gulf Standard Time. IB Gram does not offer home visits in Dubai or anywhere else in the emirates; home visits are a service we run only in India. For a Palm Jumeirah family that is not a compromise but the point: it replaces a search radius with a subject match, and the subject match is the only thing that changes a Diploma grade.

At a glance

  • The Diploma is six subjects at two levels plus three core components - over fifty distinct teaching jobs
  • Families on the island commute off it for school, in two directions on one trunk road
  • A drive-time radius selects for willingness to travel, not for subject expertise
  • Published Dubai rates for an IB specialist run AED 200-450+ per hour, with sources named
  • A tutor coaches the Extended Essay and internal assessments; the writing is the student's own
IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

An island family may be at any point in the IB sequence, and the same proximity problem applies at each stage with a different shape. These are the programmes we support from Palm Jumeirah.

DPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

Diploma Programme

Six subjects, usually three at Higher Level and three at Standard, drawn from six groups, plus Theory of Knowledge, the Extended Essay and CAS. Each subject carries externally examined papers and an internally assessed component with its own published criteria. This is where the proximity problem bites hardest, because the specialist a DP2 student needs is defined to the level of a single course rather than a subject area.

Palm Jumeirah students reach Diploma campuses in Al Barsha, Al Barsha South, Al Sufouh and along the Jumeirah coast. Three of the seven new private schools opening in Dubai for 2026-27 run International Baccalaureate programmes, which widens the choice for younger siblings but does nothing for a student sitting papers in the current cycle.

MYPAges 11-16 · MYP 1 to MYP 5

Middle Years Programme

Eight subject groups, each assessed against four criteria marked out of eight and converted to a grade from one to seven. MYP tutoring needs a tutor who has read the descriptors for that subject at that year level, which widens the matching problem rather than narrowing it. The Personal Project in MYP 5 is independent work with its own criteria.

Several campuses within reach of the island run the full IB continuum, so a Palm Jumeirah child can move from MYP into the Diploma without changing school. Families who do change at sixteen should ask what external qualification the MYP route leaves them holding, because that varies by campus.

PYPAges 3-12 · Early years to Year 6

Primary Years Programme

Transdisciplinary units of inquiry rather than discrete subjects, with assessment that reports on conceptual understanding and approaches to learning. Support at this stage is usually literacy or numeracy fluency rather than programme-specific, and the honest answer to most PYP tutoring enquiries is that a short diagnostic block is enough.

Primary provision is the one stage where a short journey genuinely matters, because a seven-year-old's evening is shorter than a sixteen-year-old's. For primary families on the island we usually recommend fewer, earlier sessions rather than a weekly commitment that competes with bedtime.

IGCSEAges 14-16 · Years 10-11

Cambridge and Pearson Edexcel International GCSE

Included because many island families are deciding between a British route and an IB route, and because IGCSE grades are what make a Diploma place possible. Cambridge runs June and November series and allocates every centre to one of six administrative zones; Pearson Edexcel runs May-June and November series with provisional timetables published ahead.

British-curriculum schools dominate Dubai by enrolment, and the campuses the island commutes to include several that run IGCSE into A Level rather than into the Diploma. A family intending the Diploma should check that the chosen Year 10 campus actually offers it, rather than assuming the sixth form follows.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

These are the Diploma courses Palm Jumeirah families most often ask for, with what each one assesses and where a non-specialist tutor typically falls short. The list is organised by what the exam actually rewards rather than by popularity.

Chemistry

HL and SL

Two papers plus an internally assessed scientific investigation. A general science tutor can explain the content and will usually miss the data-based question technique, the significant-figure and state-symbol conventions, and the uncertainty treatment the investigation criteria expect.

Physics

HL and SL

Graph interpretation, uncertainty and the step from a described situation to the correct relationship. Non-specialists re-teach topics; specialists diagnose whether the problem is actually algebraic fluency, which it frequently is, and fix that instead.

Biology

HL and SL

The course where extended-response technique decides the grade. Answers that describe a process when an explanation was asked for lose marks regardless of accuracy, and the named examples the criteria expect are not optional.

Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches

HL and SL

Higher Level adds a third paper and a markedly different style of question. Method lines left unwritten, calculator work presented without reasoning, and the exploration treated as an essay rather than as mathematics are the recurring losses.

Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation

HL and SL

Statistics-heavy, with a strong calculator component and modelling questions that reward sketching before calculating. Often chosen late by students who found the Analysis route too abstract, and the switch needs planning rather than panic.

English A: Language and Literature

HL and SL

The individual oral and the guided analysis paper are where marks move. Students arrive able to summarise and need to learn to analyse, which is close-reading practice on unseen extracts with the criteria visible.

Economics

HL and SL

Diagram accuracy and command-term discipline. An evaluation question answered descriptively earns little however well written, and the internal assessment commentaries carry length limits students routinely overshoot.

Business Management

HL and SL

Application to the specific organisation in the stimulus is what earns marks, not general theory. Students who learn the frameworks and apply them generically plateau in the mid range and cannot see why.

History

HL and SL

Source evaluation, argument structure and the historical investigation. The investigation's evaluation-of-sources section is worth a disproportionate share of its marks and is usually written last and thinnest.

Spanish B and French B

HL and SL

Oral assessment is the component families most often want help with, and it responds faster to structured practice than any other part of a language course. Written production needs register awareness rather than more vocabulary.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three ways Diploma support is bought from the island, each answering a different version of the near-me question. All are delivered one-to-one over live video.

A single named subject specialist, weekly

The default and usually the right answer. One tutor, one subject, one level, running from DP1 through to the final session, with written work marked between lessons and an error log kept by syllabus topic. The match is made on the course and level rather than on location, which is what makes a Higher Level specialist reachable from the Palm at all.

  • Matched to the exact course and level, not the subject area
  • Same tutor across both Diploma years where availability allows
  • Marked written work between every session
  • A Gulf Standard Time slot that survives the commute home

Core support: Extended Essay and Theory of Knowledge

Separate from subject teaching and bought separately, because it is a different job. Scoping a research question that can be answered in the word limit, planning backwards from the school's internal deadlines, and learning what a Theory of Knowledge exhibition or essay actually rewards. The writing remains entirely the student's, and the school supervisor stays the adult of record.

  • Research question narrowed before any writing begins
  • A calendar built backwards from the school's own deadlines
  • Feedback on the student's drafts, never redrafting
  • Referencing and academic-honesty practice built in

A diagnostic block when nobody is sure what is wrong

Three sessions bought as a diagnosis rather than a course, for the common situation where a student is working hard and the grades are flat. The tutor works a timed paper with the student, separates content gaps from technique gaps, and writes a plan with an hour count. Families who have been offered an open-ended package elsewhere find this clarifies the decision quickly.

  • Opens with a timed past paper, not a conversation
  • Separates content, technique and exam management
  • Produces a written plan with hours attached
  • No obligation to continue afterwards

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Palm Jumeirah

01

What a near-me search actually returns from Palm Jumeirah, radius by radius

Take the proximity question literally for a moment and work outwards from the island. Each band of drive time reaches more of Dubai, and the arithmetic is worth seeing written down, because it shows precisely what a radius buys. The first band is the island itself, where there is effectively no Diploma tutoring supply and never has been. The second reaches Al Sufouh and the Marina. The third reaches Al Barsha and the Jumeirah coast. Beyond that you are describing most of Dubai, at which point proximity has stopped meaning anything.

The column that matters in the table below is the last one. As the radius grows, the number of people reachable grows quickly and the number of Diploma subject specialists among them grows slowly, because specialists are rare in absolute terms rather than unevenly distributed. In a city where International Baccalaureate programmes account for about 7% of private enrolment, Group 4 and Higher Level mathematics teachers are a small population spread across a very large map. Doubling a search radius does not double the chance of a match for Higher Level Chemistry; it moves it from zero to almost zero.

There is a second cost to the radius that families account for only after they have paid it. A tutor who travels arrives with a journey behind them and another ahead, and both get priced into the hour one way or another - in the fee, in the punctuality, or in the willingness to reschedule. The published Dubai figures make this visible: in-home visits are quoted at AED 180 to 500 with travel inside the figure, against AED 150 to 300 for a qualified subject tutor working online. The difference is not teaching quality. It is a car.

None of which means proximity is worthless. For a primary-age child, a short journey is genuinely better, and for group revision a local centre is a sensible purchase. For a Diploma student with a named subject problem, the radius is the wrong filter, and replacing it with the subject and level is the single change that makes a real specialist reachable from Palm Jumeirah.

The six Diploma subject groups, and which one your search is really about

The Diploma asks for six subjects drawn from six groups: studies in language and literature, language acquisition, individuals and societies, sciences, mathematics, and the arts, with a second subject from another group permitted in place of the arts. Three are usually taken at Higher Level and three at Standard. That structure is the reason a near-me search is the wrong tool, because the unit of expertise is not the subject area but the course at the level, and the same tutor who is excellent for Standard Level Economics may be useless for Higher Level Physics.

Families often arrive describing the problem in general terms - he is struggling with the sciences, she has lost confidence in maths - and the first job is to make it specific. Which course, which level, which component, which recent piece of marked work. A tutor matched at that resolution starts useful in the first session. A tutor matched at subject-area resolution spends three weeks finding out what the parent could have told them in one email.

The table lists the groups with what a non-specialist typically misses in each. The pattern across every row is the same and worth stating directly: subject knowledge is necessary and not sufficient. What separates a specialist is knowledge of how that course is assessed - the command terms, the mark allocation conventions, the internal assessment criteria, the question types that recur. That knowledge is course-specific and it is what a radius-based search cannot see.

One practical consequence for the proximity question. If your child's weak subject is in a widely taught group - language and literature, individuals and societies - the pool is larger and a local option may exist. If it is Higher Level mathematics, a Group 4 science at Higher Level, or a less commonly taught language, the pool is small in absolute terms and the honest answer is that the right person will not be nearby. Knowing which case you are in before you start searching saves weeks.

03

The Diploma core: Theory of Knowledge, the Extended Essay and CAS

The three core components sit alongside the six subjects, they are compulsory, and they are where a disproportionate share of Diploma stress lives. Almost no local tutoring advertises support for them, which is one reason a near-me search returns so little of use to a DP1 family in October. Each component has a school-side adult of record, each has internal deadlines set by the school rather than by anybody else, and each has a specific boundary on what outside help may legitimately do.

The Extended Essay is an independent research essay with a word limit, supervised by a teacher at school. The work that determines its grade happens before any writing: narrowing a question until it can actually be answered within the limit, and finding sources that let the student argue rather than summarise. That narrowing is the single most useful thing an outside adult can contribute, because it requires somebody not attached to the original idea. Everything after that is feedback on drafts the student has written.

Theory of Knowledge asks students to examine how knowledge is produced and justified across different areas, assessed through an exhibition and an essay on a prescribed title. Students who treat it as an opinion exercise score poorly; students who learn to structure a claim, test it against a counter-claim and ground both in real examples do well. It is genuinely teachable and almost never taught privately, which makes it an unusually good use of a few sessions. CAS is experiential and reflective, not academically graded, and the honest advice is that it needs organising rather than tutoring.

The table sets out who supervises each component and precisely what external support may and may not do. We publish it in this form because vagueness here is how students end up in front of an academic honesty panel, and because a parent paying for help is entitled to know where the line sits before the first session rather than after a problem.

Gulf Standard Time and the hours that actually work from the island

Here is the part of online delivery that families reasonably worry about: if the best specialist is not in the Gulf, when does the lesson happen? The answer is more comfortable than it sounds, and it is worth setting out as a timetable rather than a reassurance. Every session we schedule is quoted in Gulf Standard Time, so there is no conversion for a parent to get wrong, and the windows that work for a Dubai school day overlap generously with the working day across South Asia and Europe.

A Palm Jumeirah student is typically home between 15:45 and 16:45 depending on which direction the school run goes and which exit the bus uses. Allowing for food and a change of clothes, the usable window runs from about 16:45 to 20:30 on weekday evenings. Within that window, the early part suits tutors in South Asia comfortably and the later part suits tutors in Europe and the United Kingdom. The Friday and Saturday weekend opens a wider set of options again, and for exam-season intensives a morning slot becomes available that the school week does not allow.

What we avoid, deliberately, is a slot that only works for the tutor. A lesson at 21:30 for a sixteen-year-old is a bad lesson regardless of how good the teacher is, and quantitative subjects are the worst affected because tired students make arithmetic errors that look like knowledge gaps. If the only availability for a particular specialist falls outside a sensible window, we say so and offer a different tutor or a weekend slot rather than booking something that will not work.

The table sets out the windows and what each suits. Two practical notes alongside it. Ramadan shifts the whole pattern, and post-Iftar sessions are a normal request we accommodate rather than an exception. And school examination fortnights are usually better paused than pushed through, because a student revising for mocks does not benefit from a new topic landing on a Tuesday evening.

05

One tutor for two years, or a specialist for each subject?

Families ask this early and the answer depends on how many subjects are actually in trouble. If one is, the question does not arise. If three are, a parent is weighing continuity against expertise, and the two pull in different directions. One tutor across three subjects knows the student, the workload and the calendar, and costs less in coordination. Three specialists each know their course properly. Our general view is that continuity is worth a great deal at Standard Level and very little at Higher Level, where the course-specific assessment knowledge dominates.

There is a middle arrangement that works well and is rarely suggested. One subject specialist for the Higher Level course that is genuinely difficult, plus a single tutor handling the Standard Level subjects where the problem is organisation and technique rather than content. That typically means two people rather than three or four, keeps the weekly commitment manageable, and puts the expensive expertise where it changes a grade. For a Palm Jumeirah family juggling a long school run, fewer moving parts is itself a benefit.

Keeping the same tutor across both Diploma years is desirable and we try for it, but we do not promise it, because tutors' availability changes and promising it would mean either breaking the promise or keeping a poor match in place. What we do commit to is telling you early if a change is coming, and handing over properly - the error log, the topic history and the marked work go with the student rather than living in one tutor's head.

A final point on the trap in this decision. Some families, faced with three weak subjects, buy three hours a week in January of DP2 and discover in March that nothing has moved, because the limiting factor was never teaching time. It was that a student with six subjects, the core and a long commute had no capacity to absorb three hours of new input. The better answer in that situation is to pick the two subjects where marks move most per hour and leave the third alone, honestly and explicitly.

What a Diploma specialist is published at in Dubai, from the bottom of the market upwards

Work up the ladder rather than down it, because that shows what each rung adds. The bottom rung is budget online tutoring: Dubai rates are published from roughly AED 45 to 150 an hour, with EdFlik advertising AED 45 to 65 and Tutopiya from AED 33 to 52. What that rung reliably buys is a present adult and company for homework. What it does not reliably buy is anybody who has taught the current version of your child's course, which for a DP2 student is the whole of the value.

The next rung is a qualified subject tutor working online, published at AED 150 to 300, with Unitors listing IGCSE from AED 150 and IB from AED 200. The addition at this level is genuine subject knowledge. The thing still frequently missing is assessment knowledge - command terms, mark allocation conventions, internal assessment criteria - which is course-specific rather than subject-specific. For many Standard Level problems this rung is the right purchase and the rung above is unnecessary.

The specialist rung is published at AED 200 to 450 and above: TutorChase quotes AED 270, Bestimate's Dubai table reaches AED 450 and beyond. This is where assessment literacy lives, and it is the right rung for a Higher Level course or an internal assessment that has gone wrong. Above it sits a premium tier at AED 500 to 650 and more, with BartyED publishing AED 650; before paying it, ask exactly what the premium buys and ask for evidence of any examiner claim in writing, because examiner status is widely asserted and rarely evidenced.

In-home visits sit outside the ladder because they price a different product: AED 180 to 500 per hour from Bestimate and independent tutors, travel included, and monthly packages around AED 1,599 to 1,799 for four two-hour visits against roughly AED 799 for eight online sessions. Every figure here was read from the provider's own page in October 2026 and none of them is an IB Gram price. Set against Dubai school fees, which KHDA confirmed on 22 May 2026 would not rise for 2026-27 under an incentives package valued at AED 1.5 billion, a short diagnosed block at the right rung is a small and controllable decision.

What the school already provides, and when outside help is the right call

Before buying anything, find out what the campus already does. Most IB schools the island commutes to run subject clinics, a homework club, and scheduled consultation time with subject teachers, and most have a DP coordinator whose job includes exactly the conversation a worried parent wants to have. These are included in the fee. Families regularly pay for a tutor to explain something a subject teacher would have explained in a twenty-minute meeting, and the only reason is that nobody asked.

The signals that genuinely point to outside help are specific. A gap that has widened across two reporting cycles rather than one poor test. A student who has stopped asking questions in class, which is usually embarrassment rather than disengagement. An internal assessment that has not started six weeks before a school deadline. A Higher Level course where the student is coping with the content and failing the questions, which is an assessment problem the school may not have time to address individually. And a transition - new curriculum, new country, new level - where something specific is missing.

There are also situations where a tutor is the wrong purchase and we will say so. If a student is sleeping five hours a night, no teaching will land. If six subjects are all weak simultaneously, the problem is almost certainly workload or wellbeing rather than teaching, and the conversation belongs with the school. If a family is buying tutoring to manage their own anxiety about a capable student, more hours will not help the student and may harm them. We would rather lose the booking than take money for something that cannot work.

Where outside help is right, the sequence that works is small and early rather than large and late. One subject, diagnosed properly, one session a week, reviewed against marked work at six weeks. If it has moved, continue. If it has not, change the approach or stop. That sounds obvious written down and it is the opposite of what most families in Dubai actually do, which is to buy a large package in the panic month and never review it.

08

Academic honesty: the one boundary that is not negotiable

The IB's academic honesty rules make work produced by somebody else malpractice, and the consequence falls on the student. That is the whole reason this section exists on a page about finding a tutor. While researching this cluster we found a provider selling completed internal assessments outright at a published price. A family who buys that is buying a risk their child carries into a university application, not a shortcut, and the correct response to such an offer is to leave.

The legitimate space is large and specific, and a parent should expect it to be described rather than implied. A tutor may explain each assessment criterion and what the next band up requires. A tutor may say plainly that a research question is too broad or that an exploration topic will not produce enough mathematics. A tutor may teach referencing, uncertainty treatment, source evaluation, essay structure and argument. A tutor may read what the student has written and tell them what is weak and why.

What falls outside is equally specific. Writing any part of an Extended Essay, an internal assessment, an exploration or a Theory of Knowledge essay. Redrafting a student's sentences into an adult register. Supplying an outline for the student to fill in. Generating data. Any of these turns the document into something the student cannot account for, and the school's academic honesty process is designed to notice exactly that.

The practical test, again, because it is the only one a parent needs: could the student explain and defend every line of the submitted work in a conversation with their supervisor? If yes, the help was teaching. If no, the help has created an exposure. We state this on every page rather than burying it, because a vague promise of coursework support is how this goes wrong, and because the student is the one who pays for it.

09

Starting from Palm Jumeirah, with the limits named

The sequence is short. Tell us the campus, the exact course and level, the exam session, and what the last marked piece of work looked like. We look for a specialist in that course with availability inside a sensible Gulf Standard Time window for an island school day. The first session is free and it is a diagnosis, built around a timed past paper rather than an introduction, and afterwards you get a written note naming the specific gaps with an hour count attached.

Now the limits, because this page has argued that honesty about availability is the thing the market lacks. Higher Level mathematics and Higher Level Group 4 sciences are the scarcest categories we recruit for. In a given week the best-matched specialist may have no slot in the island's usable evening window. When that happens we tell you and offer the real options: a different evening, a weekend morning, a different specialist, or a wait with a date attached. We will not fill the hour with a general tutor and let a family discover the mismatch in March.

We also tell you when the timeline is against you. A student starting Higher Level Chemistry support six weeks before final papers can improve technique and triage the three highest-value gaps, and cannot cover the course. Saying so costs us a booking and is the only responsible answer. Where the timeline is workable, the plan is specific: which topics, in which order, how many hours, reviewed against marked work rather than against a feeling.

And the things we will not do at all. We will not promise a grade, a point total or an improvement, and a provider who does is describing their sales process rather than your child. We will not write or redraft assessed work. We will not claim approval, accreditation or partnership from the IB, from KHDA, from the Ministry of Education or from any school, because we hold none and the claim is both false and risky. What we will do is match on the subject rather than the postcode, mark the work honestly, and tell you early if it is not working.

Where we tutor

Nearby areas we cover around Palm Jumeirah

The areas below are grouped by how long the drive from Palm Jumeirah actually takes at the end of a school day, because that is the only thing a proximity search is really measuring.

Palm Jumeirah: the fronds

Villa communities reached from the trunk, where a single exit governs the evening. Families here report the longest effective journey times of anywhere on the island for an early-evening appointment.

Palm Jumeirah: the trunk and Golden Mile

Apartments and townhouses with the quickest access on and off the island. A session starting at 16:45 is realistic here where it is not on the outer fronds.

Palm Jumeirah: the Crescent

Resort and residential developments at the outer edge. Anybody driving here for a lesson is making a long detour from the mainland, and the published in-home rates reflect it.

Al Sufouh

The first mainland band off the island and the destination for several of the campuses island families use. Fifteen minutes outside peak, considerably more at the end of the school day.

Dubai Marina and JBR

Immediately west, dense and well supplied with general tuition centres. Diploma subject specialists are no more available here than on the island, which surprises families who assume density helps.

Al Barsha and Al Barsha South

The second mainland band, twenty to thirty-five minutes depending on the hour, and where the widest set of IB campuses sits. The practical centre of gravity for an island Diploma family.

Umm Suqeim and Jumeirah 3

Eastward along the coast, with campuses that run both British and IB routes. A viable school run and a poor tutoring radius, for the same reason as everywhere else.

Al Safa, Al Wasl and Jumeirah 1

The furthest band most island families use for school, reached along Jumeirah Beach Road. Journey times here make an in-home evening appointment a two-hour commitment for the tutor.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in Palm Jumeirah

Campuses in the first band off the island, Al Sufouh and Al Barsha 1

These are the schools most commonly reached in roughly fifteen to twenty-five minutes from the Palm outside peak traffic. We support students who attend them and have no relationship with any of them. Confirm each campus's current programme offer and its latest published KHDA inspection outcome on the regulator's own site.

  • Dubai College, Al Sufouh
  • GEMS Wellington International School, Al Sufouh
  • American School of Dubai, Al Barsha 1
  • Dubai International Academy, Al Barsha
  • GEMS Dubai American Academy, Al Barsha
  • Nord Anglia International School Dubai, Al Barsha South

Campuses in the second band, the Jumeirah and Umm Suqeim coast

Reached eastward along the coast rather than west into Al Barsha, and typically a longer run once the afternoon traffic builds. Families on the island often hold places in both bands while deciding, which is why both lists appear here rather than one.

  • Kings' School Dubai, Umm Suqeim
  • Raffles World Academy, Umm Suqeim
  • Emirates International School, Jumeirah 1
  • Jumeirah College, Al Safa
  • Jumeira Baccalaureate School, Al Safa
  • Horizon English School, Al Safa

Named schools are listed as local context only; IB Gram has no affiliation, partnership or endorsement arrangement with any school, school group or regulator.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Name the course and the level, not the subject

Higher Level Analysis and Approaches is a different teaching job from Standard Level Applications and Interpretation, and the match has to be made at that resolution. Send the course, the level, the session, and a photograph of the last marked piece of work. That email saves three weeks.

  2. 02

We match on the course, not the postcode

We look for somebody who teaches that exact course at that level with availability in a sensible Gulf Standard Time window for an island school day. Proximity is not a criterion, because the specialist who can help is statistically unlikely to live within a short drive of Palm Jumeirah.

  3. 03

A free trial built on a timed paper

The first session is a diagnosis. The student works a timed section while the tutor watches where the method actually breaks, then they mark it together against published criteria. It is the fastest way to separate a content gap from a technique gap, and it takes an hour.

  4. 04

A written plan with an hour count

You receive a short note naming the gaps in priority order with a plausible number of hours against each. Where the honest answer is six hours rather than sixty, it says six. Where the timeline is too short to cover a course, it says that instead of selling a package.

  5. 05

Weekly sessions, marked work, a six-week review

Lessons run to a schedule you set in Gulf Standard Time. Written work is marked between sessions and errors are logged by syllabus topic. At six weeks we review against the school's own marks, and if nothing has moved we change the plan or tell you to stop.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

Matched by course and level, not by drive time

A radius selects for willingness to travel. A subject match selects for the ability to teach the thing your child is actually sitting. For a Higher Level course the second is the only one that moves a grade, and it is what makes a specialist reachable from the island at all.

Every session quoted in Gulf Standard Time

There is no time-zone conversion for a parent to get wrong, and we do not book a slot that only works for the tutor. A 21:30 lesson for a sixteen-year-old is a bad lesson, and quantitative subjects suffer most, so we offer a weekend morning or a different tutor instead.

Core support that almost nobody sells

Theory of Knowledge and the Extended Essay carry a disproportionate share of Diploma stress and barely appear in local tutoring. Scoping a research question and learning to structure a claim against a counter-claim are teachable in a few sessions, and the writing stays the student's own.

Market rates published with sources

Every AED figure on this page was read from the provider's own page in October 2026 and is attributed. Three of the six competitor pages examined for this cluster publish no price at all and two quote in US dollars, which is not a currency a UAE family transacts in.

Coverage limits stated before you book

Higher Level mathematics and Higher Level sciences are the scarcest matches we make, and some weeks the right person has no usable evening slot. We say so and give real options with dates attached. No competitor page we researched discloses a coverage limit at all.

No regulator claims and no grade promises

IB Gram holds no approval, accreditation or partnership from the IB, KHDA, ADEK, the Ministry of Education or any school, and claims none. We name regulators to explain what they do and link the official route. We do not promise points, grades or improvements, in any phrasing.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Palm Jumeirah: your questions answered

Is there an IB tutor near Palm Jumeirah who teaches my child's exact subject?+

Probably not, and the honest version of that answer is more useful than a hopeful one. The Diploma is six subjects across six groups at two levels plus three core components, which is over fifty distinct teaching jobs, and specialists are rare in absolute terms rather than unevenly spread. Island families commute off the Palm for school, and the tutoring supply in the first drive band is general rather than specialist. Replace the radius with the course and the level and the right person becomes findable, which is the whole argument of this page.

How many Diploma specialists realistically sit within a 30-minute drive of the Palm?+

Few, and almost never in the specific course you need. Dubai has 227 private schools running 17 curricula, with International Baccalaureate programmes accounting for about 7% of private enrolment, so Higher Level science and mathematics teachers are a small population across a very large map. A 30-minute band from the island reaches Al Sufouh, the Marina, Al Barsha and Umm Suqeim, which contains plenty of general tuition supply and very little course-specific expertise. Doubling the radius does not double your chances; it moves them from zero to near zero.

Which IB schools do Palm Jumeirah families drive to?+

Mostly westward into Al Sufouh, Al Barsha and Al Barsha South, where the widest set of IB campuses sits, and eastward along the coast into Umm Suqeim, Jumeirah and Al Safa. Journey times run roughly fifteen minutes to the first band and twenty to thirty-five to the second, considerably longer at the end of a school day. Three of the seven new private schools opening in Dubai for 2026-27 run International Baccalaureate programmes. Confirm each campus's current programme offer and inspection outcome on KHDA's own site rather than from any list, including this one.

Does a tutor need to live in Dubai to teach a Dubai Diploma student?+

No, and insisting on it is what makes a Higher Level specialist unfindable. What matters is whether the tutor teaches the current version of the course, knows how it is assessed, and can work in a session window that suits a Dubai school day. Every session we schedule is quoted in Gulf Standard Time so there is no conversion to get wrong. What does matter locally is understanding the school calendar, the mock timetable and the way a Dubai week runs, and that is learned rather than inherited by residence.

What are the six IB subject groups and which one needs help most often?+

Studies in language and literature, language acquisition, individuals and societies, sciences, mathematics, and the arts, with a second subject from another group permitted instead of the arts. Mathematics and the sciences generate the most requests from island families, especially at Higher Level, because the assessment knowledge is course-specific and hardest to substitute. Individuals and societies subjects come next, usually over command-term discipline and internal assessment length limits rather than content. The arts generate the fewest requests and the marks there sit mostly in assessed documentation.

Who supervises the Extended Essay, the school or the tutor?+

The school. A teacher at the campus is appointed as supervisor, the school sets the internal deadlines, and the school's academic honesty policy governs. An outside tutor works around that, never instead of it. What a tutor usefully adds is the part that happens before writing: narrowing the research question until it can genuinely be answered within the word limit, and finding sources that let the student argue rather than summarise. After that, the contribution is feedback on drafts the student has written themselves.

What can an outside tutor do about Theory of Knowledge?+

More than most families expect, and it is one of the best-value few sessions available. Theory of Knowledge asks students to examine how knowledge is produced and justified, assessed through an exhibition and an essay on a prescribed title. Students who treat it as opinion score poorly; students who learn to state a claim, test it against a counter-claim and ground both in concrete examples do well. That structure is teachable. What a tutor may not do is supply the argument, provide an outline to fill in, or draft the essay.

How does CAS fit around tutoring sessions?+

CAS is experiential and reflective rather than academically graded, so it needs organising rather than tutoring, and we say so rather than selling hours against it. Where it genuinely collides with academic work is in DP1, when students take on commitments without mapping them against internal assessment deadlines and then lose three weekends in the same month. A single planning conversation that puts CAS commitments, subject deadlines and the Extended Essay on one calendar prevents most of that, and it is not something a family should pay a subject specialist for.

What session times work if the tutor is not in the Gulf?+

A Palm Jumeirah student is usually home between 15:45 and 16:45, so the usable weekday window runs from about 16:45 to 20:30 Gulf Standard Time. The early part suits tutors in South Asia comfortably and the later part suits Europe and the United Kingdom, so the overlap is generous. Friday and Saturday mornings open almost any time zone and suit longer internal assessment work. We avoid anything after about 20:30 for a school night, because quantitative subjects go badly with a tired student. During Ramadan, post-Iftar sessions are a normal arrangement.

Can we keep the same tutor through both Diploma years?+

We try for it and we do not promise it, because tutors' availability changes and a promise would mean either breaking it or keeping a poor match in place. What we do commit to is telling you early if a change is coming and handing over properly: the topic error log, the history of marked work and the plan move with the student rather than living in one tutor's head. Continuity is worth a great deal at Standard Level and rather less at Higher Level, where course-specific assessment knowledge matters more.

How quickly can a Palm Jumeirah family start lessons?+

For a commonly taught Standard Level course, usually within a few days, because the pool is wide enough that an evening slot exists. For Higher Level mathematics or a Higher Level science, it can take longer, and we will give you a date rather than a vague reassurance. The limiting factor is almost never our willingness; it is the overlap between a scarce specialist's availability and a usable Gulf-evening window for an island school day. If the wait is more than a fortnight we say so up front.

What does a Diploma specialist charge per hour in Dubai?+

The published specialist band runs AED 200 to 450 and above, with TutorChase quoting AED 270 and Bestimate's Dubai rate table reaching AED 450 and beyond. Below that, a qualified subject tutor online is published at AED 150 to 300, with Unitors listing IB from AED 200. Above it, premium named tutors reach AED 650 at BartyED. In-home visits price a different product at AED 180 to 500 with travel included. All figures were read from providers' own pages in October 2026 and none of them is an IB Gram price.

Would a tutor come to the Crescent for an evening lesson?+

Not through us. IB Gram does not offer home visits in Dubai or anywhere else in the UAE; home visits are a service we run only in India. Lessons for Palm Jumeirah families are one-to-one and live online, scheduled in Gulf Standard Time. Independent tutors in the market do travel, and the published rates show what it costs: AED 180 to 500 an hour with travel inside the figure, against AED 150 to 300 for a qualified subject tutor working online. The Crescent is a long detour from the mainland and the quotes reflect it.

How do I check whether a tutor may legally charge for private lessons in the UAE?+

Ask them directly whether they hold the MoHRE private tuition work permit, which was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023 and is granted free of charge for two years. MoHRE's own service page lists no fee and a two-working-day completion time, with applications through the smart app, website and e-services system. Eligible applicants include registered school teachers, government and private sector employees, unemployed individuals, school students aged 15 to 18 and university students. Individuals tutoring without one are subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws; no fine schedule is published.

What may a tutor never do with my child's internal assessment?+

Write any part of it, redraft the student's sentences into an adult register, supply a structure to fill in, or generate the data. Those are malpractice under IB rules and the consequence falls on the student. What a tutor may do is substantial: explain each criterion and what the next band requires, say plainly when a research question or exploration topic will not work, teach uncertainty treatment, referencing and evaluation, and give written feedback on drafts the student has produced. The test is whether your child could explain and defend every line themselves.

Replace the radius with the subject

A near-me search from Palm Jumeirah is measuring drive time, and drive time does not predict whether somebody can teach Higher Level Chemistry or scope an Extended Essay question. Send us the course, the level, the exam session and the last marked piece of work, and we will match on those instead. The first session is a free trial built around a timed paper, scheduled in Gulf Standard Time after the commute home, and you will leave it with a written list of gaps and an hour count. If the honest answer is that the timeline is too short, we will tell you that as well.
