IB Maths Tutor in Palm Jumeirah

An IB maths tutor in Palm Jumeirah is one of the more expensive hours a family on the island will buy, and the published Dubai bands run from AED 45 to over AED 650. This page is about getting that money aimed correctly: what an hour can and cannot change, why the Analysis and Approaches or Applications and Interpretation decision costs more than any tutor, where island families overpay, and what the in-home travel premium actually buys. Lessons are delivered one-to-one, live online, in Gulf Standard Time.

  • An hour count before any commitment, written down
  • Published AED bands with the provider named for each figure
  • Exploration coaching on the student's own work only

IB & IGCSE in Palm Jumeirah

Where the money goes, and where it should go

Mathematics is the subject Palm Jumeirah families spend the most on and the one where the spending is aimed worst. The pattern is consistent. A student starts the Diploma, the first set of marks is lower than the family expected, and an hour a week is bought at whatever rate seems reasonable. Six months later the marks are broadly where they were, the family concludes that the tutor was wrong, and a more expensive tutor is bought. Nothing in that sequence involved finding out what was actually wrong, which is the only thing that would have changed the outcome.

There are four or five distinct problems that all present as a weak mathematics grade, and they cost wildly different amounts to fix. Procedural slowness - algebra, indices, rearrangement - is cheap and quick, because it is drill. Conceptual gaps in a specific topic are moderate, because they are teaching. Method-mark illiteracy, where a student gets right answers and loses marks for not showing the route, is the cheapest of all and takes about three weeks. Wrong course choice is the most expensive, because no amount of tutoring fixes being on Higher Level Analysis and Approaches when Applications and Interpretation was the right route. Exam management is free to diagnose and takes practice rather than teaching.

This page prices each of those honestly and sets out how many hours each plausibly takes. It also publishes the Dubai market bands with the provider who published each figure attached, because three of the six competitor pages examined for this cluster quote no price at all and two quote in US dollars, which is not a currency a UAE family transacts in. And it explains the in-home travel premium specifically, because Palm Jumeirah is one of the addresses in Dubai where that premium is largest and least visible.

There is a particular reason the island matters to a mathematics decision rather than a geography one. Higher Level Analysis and Approaches specialists are among the scarcest tutors in the emirate, and the subset of them willing to drive onto the fronds at six in the evening is smaller still. Selecting from that subset means paying a travel premium for a smaller pool, which is the worst of both arrangements. Selecting by course and level instead removes the premium and widens the pool, which is why our model is what it is.

Stated once and plainly: tutoring for UAE families is one-to-one and live online, scheduled in Gulf Standard Time. IB Gram does not offer home visits in Dubai or anywhere else in the emirates; home visits are a service we run only in India. On a page about cost that is the central argument rather than a footnote, because the published figures show exactly what the travel inside an in-home rate is worth, and it is not teaching.

At a glance

  • Five different problems present as a weak maths grade and cost very different amounts to fix
  • Method-mark illiteracy is the cheapest to fix and the most commonly missed
  • The Analysis and Approaches or Applications and Interpretation choice costs more than any tutor
  • Published Dubai rates: AED 150-300 online for a qualified subject tutor, AED 180-500 in-home with travel inside
  • The exploration needs hours spread across months, not a block before the deadline
IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Mathematics runs through every stage of the IB sequence and the cost question looks different at each one. These are the programmes we support from Palm Jumeirah.

DPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

Diploma Programme mathematics

Four courses: Analysis and Approaches at Standard and Higher Level, and Applications and Interpretation at Standard and Higher Level. Standard Level sits two examination papers; Higher Level sits three. All four include an internally assessed mathematical exploration marked against published criteria. The course and level decide what a tutoring hour has to do, which is why no sensible quote exists before the course is named.

Palm Jumeirah students reach Diploma campuses in Al Barsha, Al Barsha South, Al Sufouh and along the Jumeirah coast. Three of the seven new private schools opening in Dubai for 2026-27 run International Baccalaureate programmes. None of that changes the scarcity of Higher Level Analysis and Approaches teachers, which is an absolute shortage rather than a distribution problem.

MYPAges 11-16 · MYP 1 to MYP 5

Middle Years Programme mathematics

Assessed against four criteria including investigating patterns and applying mathematics in real-life contexts, which is a broader brief than procedural fluency and a thinner one on drill. Support here is cheap relative to Diploma support and prevents the most expensive problem of all, because a student who leaves MYP 5 without automatic algebra meets that wall in DP1.

The single best-value mathematics purchase available to an island family is a short block between MYP 5 and DP1, aimed at algebraic fluency and index laws. Eight to twelve hours there removes the problem that otherwise generates a year of DP1 tutoring at a higher rate. Almost nobody buys it.

IGCSEAges 14-16 · Years 10-11

Cambridge and Pearson Edexcel International GCSE mathematics

Cambridge 0580 and 0607 International Mathematics, and Pearson Edexcel 4MA1, with Additional Mathematics 0606 and Further Pure 4PM1 taken alongside by students heading for a mathematical sixth form. The grade earned here governs which Diploma mathematics course a campus will allow, which makes it a financial decision as well as an academic one.

A student entering the Diploma from a Core-tier or single-award background faces a genuine gap into Analysis and Approaches, and campuses usually set an entry grade for the Higher Level route. Ask the sixth form what grade it requires for each of the four mathematics courses, in writing, during Year 10 rather than Year 11.

ALAges 16-18 · Years 12-13

A Level mathematics, for comparison

The alternative route at several campuses the island commutes to, and worth naming because families comparing cost should compare the whole two years rather than the hourly rate. A Level mathematics has no internally assessed project, so there is no exploration to support, which removes a real block of tutoring hours from the budget.

That difference is worth money. A Diploma mathematics student needs exploration support spread across several months; an A Level mathematics student does not. Families weighing the two routes on an island budget should factor it in alongside the subject breadth the Diploma requires.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

These are the mathematics courses and the subjects whose grades move with them. The note on each one is about where tutoring hours pay back, because that is the decision a family is actually making.

Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches HL

Higher Level

Three papers, with Paper 3 asking extended problem-solving on unfamiliar ground. The scarcest tutoring match in the emirate and the one where the specialist band is genuinely earned. Marks go on unwritten method lines and on Paper 3 questions abandoned rather than attempted in parts.

Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches SL

Standard Level

Two papers, one without a calculator. The commonest Diploma mathematics course on the island and well served in the middle rate band. Most of the recoverable marks sit in algebraic accuracy and in showing a method rather than in new content.

Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation HL

Higher Level

Statistics and modelling heavy, with a substantial calculator component and a third paper. Students who arrive expecting an easier Higher Level course are usually surprised by the volume of interpretation required in writing.

Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation SL

Standard Level

Often the right course for students heading to business, social science or design, and often chosen late by students struggling with the Analysis route. Switching is cheaper than persisting, and the last sensible date for it is set by the school.

The mathematical exploration

All four courses

The internally assessed component, marked against published criteria covering presentation, mathematical communication, personal engagement, reflection and use of mathematics. Needs hours spread over months rather than a block before the deadline, and the writing must be entirely the student's own.

Physics

HL and SL

The subject whose grade moves most when mathematics improves. Formula rearrangement, unit conversion and graph gradients are mathematics skills examined inside physics papers, which means a mathematics block frequently returns marks in two subjects.

Chemistry

HL and SL

Mole calculations, significant figures and logarithmic work in acids and bases. A student with slow algebra is slow in chemistry too, and families who buy chemistry hours for an arithmetic problem pay twice for one fix.

Economics

HL and SL

Higher Level carries quantitative work that catches students who chose Applications and Interpretation expecting to avoid calculation. Diagram accuracy and numerical interpretation both improve with mathematics fluency rather than with more economics content.

Computer Science

HL and SL

Taken alongside mathematics by students heading for engineering or computing. The internal assessment is a software solution and the marks sit largely in documentation, which is a different purchase from mathematics teaching.

Business Management

HL and SL

Includes finance and ratio work that students on the Applications and Interpretation route handle comfortably and students avoiding numbers do not. Worth naming when a family is choosing a sixth subject on cost and workload grounds.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three ways island families buy mathematics support, each priced differently and suited to a different diagnosis. All are delivered one-to-one over live video.

A paid diagnostic, bought on its own

One or two sessions bought deliberately as a diagnosis rather than as the start of a course. The student works a timed paper while the tutor watches where the method actually breaks, and the output is a written document separating procedural slowness, topic gaps, method-mark losses and exam management, with an hour count against each. This is the cheapest useful purchase in mathematics and it is almost never offered.

  • Opens with a timed paper at the correct course and level
  • Separates five different problems that look identical
  • Produces an hour count, not a package
  • No obligation to continue afterwards

A weekly slot through the Diploma years

The standard arrangement where the diagnosis shows genuine content or technique work. One session a week with the same specialist, written work marked between lessons, and an error log kept by syllabus topic so the final term's revision is aimed rather than general. Mathematics benefits from weekly rhythm more than any other subject, because fluency decays between sessions.

  • Same specialist across both years where availability allows
  • Method-mark conventions corrected in writing every week
  • An error log by topic, not by date
  • Exploration milestones built into the same calendar

A short fluency block, bought once

Six to twelve hours aimed at one thing: automatic algebra, index laws, rearrangement and arithmetic under time. This is the right purchase for the student who understands the concepts and is slow, which is a surprisingly large share of the DP1 students who contact us. It is finite, it is measurable, and it should not turn into a weekly retainer.

  • One diagnosed problem, a fixed hour count
  • Measured against timed drills, not against a feeling
  • Returns marks in physics and chemistry as well
  • Ends when the drill times stop improving

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Palm Jumeirah

01

What you are actually buying in an hour of IB maths support

An hour of mathematics tutoring can be spent on one of about six things, and they are not interchangeable. Diagnosis. Re-teaching a topic. Drilling procedural fluency. Past-paper technique and method marks. Calculator skill. Exploration coaching. Each one changes something different, each takes a different number of hours, and each is worth a different amount depending on what is actually wrong with the student in front of you. Buying hours without naming which of the six you are buying is how a Palm Jumeirah family spends a year without moving a grade.

The table below is the most useful thing on this page. Read the last column first, because it is the one nobody tells you: what each kind of hour cannot change. Drilling fluency will not fix a wrong course choice. Re-teaching topics will not fix method-mark illiteracy. Exploration coaching will not improve examination performance. Past-paper technique will not install algebra that was never automatic. A tutor who offers a single undifferentiated hour is offering an average of six things, and averages are expensive.

The hour counts in the table are from our own matching experience rather than from a published study, and they are deliberately ranges. What they are good for is sizing a decision. If the diagnosis says method marks, the honest answer is about six hours and a family should not be sold thirty. If it says a wrong course, the honest answer is a conversation with the school rather than any tutoring at all. If it says conceptual gaps across three topics in DP2, the honest answer is a larger number and a family deserves to see it before committing rather than discovering it in instalments.

One warning about the sequence. Families almost always want to start with re-teaching, because it feels like the substance. Starting with diagnosis feels like a delay and is in fact the only step that makes the others efficient. A single hour spent finding out which of the six problems exists typically saves between five and fifteen hours of the wrong work, which at the published Dubai specialist band of AED 200 to 450 an hour is a straightforwardly good trade.

Analysis and Approaches or Applications and Interpretation: the choice that costs more than any tutor

No tutoring decision an island family makes matters as much as this one, and it is usually made at sixteen on incomplete information. The two courses are genuinely different subjects rather than harder and easier versions of one. Analysis and Approaches is algebraic and proof-oriented, with a non-calculator paper at both levels. Applications and Interpretation is statistical and modelling-oriented, with a calculator permitted throughout and a heavier burden of written interpretation. A student on the wrong one does not need a better tutor; they need a different course.

The financial consequence is large and nobody frames it that way. A student placed on Higher Level Analysis and Approaches who should be on Standard Level Applications and Interpretation can absorb two years of weekly specialist tutoring at the published AED 200 to 450 band and still finish in the lower bands, because the gap is structural. The same student moved to the right course in the first term of DP1 may need no tutoring at all. That is the single most expensive error available in Diploma mathematics and it is reversible for a window that the school sets.

So the question to ask the campus is practical: what are the entry requirements for each of the four courses, what is the last date a change can be made, and what evidence would be needed? That evidence is where tutoring genuinely helps. Six weeks of marked work at the target level, with the marks recorded, is a stronger case to a head of mathematics than any conversation, and it works in both directions - it can also demonstrate that a student is coping and should stay.

University requirements belong in the same conversation and are set by the receiving institution rather than by the school or by us. Some engineering and mathematics programmes specify Analysis and Approaches; some accept either; some name a minimum subject grade rather than only a total. Open the admissions pages of the target universities and write the mathematics requirement into one document before the course is chosen. Where a UAE institution is on the list, check the Ministry of Education equivalency route separately, because recognition and admission are different processes and tutoring is a requirement of neither.

03

Calculator and non-calculator are two separate purchases

Families treat mathematics as one skill and the examination does not. Analysis and Approaches includes a paper sat without a calculator, where fluent algebra and arithmetic are the whole game, and a paper where a graphic display calculator is permitted and the skill is knowing which function to reach for and how to present the result. Applications and Interpretation allows a calculator throughout, which shifts the burden onto interpretation and onto presenting calculator output as reasoning rather than as an answer.

The practical consequence is that a student can be strong on one paper and weak on the other, and the remedy for each is different. The non-calculator weakness is fluency and it responds to timed drill, which is cheap. The calculator weakness is technique and it responds to being taught the machine properly, which is cheaper still and almost never taught, because teachers assume students who grew up with devices will work it out. They do not. Students lose marks reaching for the wrong function under time and then write down a number with no reasoning attached.

Presentation is the third element and the one worth the most marks per hour of work. A calculator paper answer that gives a correct value with no indication of what was done earns less than one that states the function used and the values entered. A non-calculator answer that reaches the right number in one leap loses the method marks along the route. Teaching a student to write the method line before the answer is a three-week habit change that applies to every paper in every course, and it is the cheapest mark recovery in Diploma mathematics.

Look at the table and then at your child's last two paper marks separately rather than at the overall grade. If the gap between the calculator and non-calculator papers is more than a band, the diagnosis is sitting in plain sight, and the hours should go to one of them rather than being spread across both. That is a free piece of analysis any parent can do with the marked papers already in the house.

Four diagnoses that all look like being bad at maths

  • Procedural slowness: understands the method, cannot execute it fast enough - cheapest to fix
  • Topic gaps: two or three specific areas, bought topic by topic against a list
  • Method-mark illiteracy: right answers, no route shown, about three weeks of habit change
  • Exam management: no time check, no plausibility check, Paper 3 parts abandoned
  • Wrong course: not a tutoring problem at all; a conversation with the school

A parent describing the problem will usually say that their child has lost confidence in mathematics, or has always found it hard, or was fine until the Diploma started. None of those is a diagnosis, and treating them as one is how money gets spent on the wrong hours. There are four distinct conditions underneath, they are separable in a single session, and they cost different amounts.

The first is procedural slowness. The student understands what is being asked, knows the approach, and cannot execute the algebra fast enough or accurately enough under time. In DP1 this is extremely common and it almost always originates in a curriculum transition, from MYP or from a British Key Stage where the investigation and application work was richer than the drill. It is the cheapest condition to fix and the one families least expect, because the student sounds knowledgeable when they explain their thinking.

The second is a genuine topic gap, usually in two or three places rather than everywhere. Calculus, trigonometric identities and probability are the recurring ones. This is real teaching and it costs real hours, three to six per topic, and it should be bought topic by topic against a list rather than as an open commitment. The third is method-mark illiteracy, where the student is getting answers right and losing marks for showing nothing, and it is the cheapest of all to fix. The fourth is exam management: answering in order, abandoning Paper 3 parts, no time check, and no plausibility check on the final number.

What makes this worth writing down is that the four have different price tags and families default to buying the second, which is the most expensive. In a diagnostic session a competent tutor separates them by watching the student work rather than by asking questions, because a student's description of their own difficulty is almost always wrong. One hour, honestly reported, is what stands between a thirty-hour plan and a six-hour one, and an island family deciding between those is deciding something worth several thousand dirhams.

05

The exploration: hours, milestones and the line a tutor does not cross

The mathematical exploration is the internally assessed component of all four courses, marked against published criteria covering presentation, mathematical communication, personal engagement, reflection and use of mathematics. Confirm the current criterion wording and weighting against your child's subject guide, because the IB revises guides on a cycle. What does not change is the cost shape: the exploration needs a modest number of hours spread across several months, and it is ruinously expensive to support in a single block before the school's deadline.

The failure mode is always the same and it is a scoping failure. A student picks a topic they find interesting and which contains almost no mathematics at the right level, writes eighteen pages about it, and discovers in the final week that the use-of-mathematics criterion has nothing to reward. Fixing that late means starting again, which is where a family suddenly buys twelve hours in a fortnight at the specialist band. Fixing it in the first two weeks costs about two hours and is the single highest-return intervention in the whole component.

The hours are better understood as milestones than as a total. Topic generation and a mathematical feasibility check. A narrowed research direction with the mathematics identified. A first attempt at the mathematics, which is where most topics are revealed as too thin or too hard. Drafting, written by the student. A feedback pass against the criteria. A reflection pass, because reflection is a criterion in its own right and is almost always written last and thinnest. Spread across months, that is six to ten hours, and it fits comfortably inside a weekly slot that exists anyway.

Now the boundary, stated so nobody has to infer it. A tutor may explain each criterion and what the next band requires. A tutor may say plainly that a topic will not produce enough mathematics, which is the most valuable thing they will say all year. A tutor may teach the mathematics the exploration needs, the conventions of mathematical writing, and how to reflect in a way the criteria credit. A tutor may read a draft the student has written and give feedback on it. A tutor may not write any part of it, redraft the student's sentences, supply the structure, or produce the mathematics for the student to copy. The test is whether your child could explain and defend every line. The subject teacher is the supervisor of record and the school's deadlines govern.

What the Dubai market charges for IB maths, and what the travel premium actually buys

Start with the premium, because it is the figure island families pay without seeing. A qualified subject tutor working online is published in Dubai at AED 150 to 300 an hour. An in-home one-to-one visit is published at AED 180 to 500 with travel inside the figure - Bestimate reports AED 180 to 350 and independent home tutors are quoted at AED 200 to 500. The gap between those two bands is the car. For a Palm Jumeirah address, and particularly for a frond or Crescent address, the tutor is absorbing fifty minutes or more of round trip, and no business absorbs that without pricing it.

Monthly packages make the same point more starkly. The market shows roughly AED 799 a month for eight online sessions, against AED 1,599 to 1,799 a month for four two-hour home visits. That is the same eight hours of teaching, at double the price, with the difference going to a journey. A family is entitled to decide that a person in the room is worth that, and some genuinely are - a younger child, a student who will not engage with a screen. For a DP2 student working on Paper 3 technique, it buys nothing the lesson needs.

The rest of the ladder, read from providers' own pages in October 2026. Budget online tutoring is published from roughly AED 45 to 150, with EdFlik at AED 45 to 65 and Tutopiya from AED 33 to 52. The specialist band for IB, IGCSE and A Level teaching is AED 200 to 450 and above, with TutorChase publishing AED 270 and Bestimate's Dubai table reaching AED 450 and beyond. Premium named tutors reach AED 650 at BartyED. None of these figures is an IB Gram price, and before paying the premium band a parent should ask exactly what it buys and ask for evidence of any examiner claim in writing.

The honest guidance for mathematics specifically. Standard Level problems, and almost all procedural fluency and method-mark work, sit comfortably in the AED 150 to 300 band. Higher Level Analysis and Approaches, Paper 3 technique and a rescued exploration are where the specialist band at AED 200 to 450 earns its difference, because the knowledge required is course-specific rather than subject-general. The budget band rarely buys anybody who has taught the current courses. And the travel premium buys a journey, which is why we do not sell it.

Tutoring next to a Dubai school fee: the proportion nobody calculates

Families decide about tutoring in isolation and then feel the cost acutely, when the useful comparison is the whole education budget. KHDA confirmed on 22 May 2026 that private school fees in Dubai would not rise for the 2026-27 academic year, under the emirate's second economic incentives package, valued at AED 1.5 billion within a total of AED 2.5 billion. Against a frozen school fee, a diagnosed block of mathematics hours is a small and unusually controllable line - and controllability is the point, because it is the one part of the budget a family can aim precisely.

Scale matters as well. Dubai's private sector served 387,441 students across 227 private schools offering 17 different curricula in 2024-25, with UK curriculum schools holding 37% of enrolment, Indian 26%, US 14% and International Baccalaureate 7%. For 2026-27 the emirate added seven new private schools, four UK curriculum and three International Baccalaureate, creating 16,846 new places, after six opened during 2025-26 and enrolment rose 6%. The IB share is small in a very large market, which is precisely why Higher Level mathematics specialists are scarce and why their published rates sit where they do.

The table puts a mathematics tutoring decision next to the other things a Diploma costs, so a parent can see the proportion rather than the absolute figure. Two cautions about reading it. The school fee row is a band rather than a quote, because fees vary by campus and year group and the only authority on your own is the campus itself and KHDA's published fee information. And the exam entry row depends entirely on whether a student sits through their school or as a private candidate, which is a question for the exams officer.

The conclusion we would draw from the arithmetic, and the one our own commercial interest argues against, is that fewer hours aimed better is almost always the right answer in mathematics. A paid diagnostic plus a six-hour fluency block, reviewed against the next set of school marks, is a small line in the table. Two years of undifferentiated weekly sessions at the specialist band is a large one, and in the cases where it is genuinely needed - Higher Level Analysis and Approaches with real content gaps - a family should at least be choosing it deliberately rather than drifting into it.

The cheapest honest step, and when to stop paying

If you take one action from this page, take this one. Buy a diagnostic session, on its own, with no package attached, and ask for the output in writing: which of the five conditions is present, which topics if any are genuinely missing, and how many hours each plausibly needs. Our first session is a free trial and it is built exactly that way, which means you can get the document at no cost, and you are free to act on it with us or with anybody else. A provider unwilling to give you that in writing is telling you something.

Then act on the smallest version first. If the diagnosis says procedural slowness, buy the fluency block and measure it against timed drills rather than against a feeling. If it says method marks, buy four to eight hours and measure it against the next marked paper. If it says topic gaps, buy them topic by topic against the list. If it says the course is wrong, do not buy any hours at all - go to the head of mathematics, and use six weeks of marked work as the evidence if a change needs arguing for.

Equally important is knowing when to stop, because nobody in this market will tell you. Stop the fluency block when the drill times stop improving. Stop a topic when the student can do an unseen past-paper question on it unaided. Stop weekly sessions if two consecutive school assessments show no movement and the tutor cannot explain why, because at that point either the diagnosis was wrong or the limiting factor is not teaching. Reviewing against the school's own marks at six weeks, rather than against how the sessions feel, is the mechanism that makes stopping possible.

And the limits on our side, since this page has argued for honesty about money. Higher Level Analysis and Approaches specialists are the scarcest match we make, and some weeks the right person has no slot inside a usable Gulf Standard Time evening for an island school day; when that happens we say so and give a date. We will not promise a grade, a point total or an improvement, in any phrasing. We will not write or redraft an exploration. And we will not claim approval, accreditation or partnership from the IB, from KHDA, from the Ministry of Education or from any school, because we hold none of them.

Where we tutor

Nearby areas we cover around Palm Jumeirah

The areas below are the ones that set an island family's travel premium and session timing. Online delivery removes the first and works around the second.

Palm Jumeirah: the trunk and Golden Mile

The quickest access on and off the island, so the smallest in-home travel premium and the earliest workable weekday slot. Even here, the published in-home band starts well above the online band.

Palm Jumeirah: the fronds

A single exit and a thread through several fronds. Any tutor driving here at six o'clock is adding fifty minutes of round trip to the hour, and the quotes island families report reflect exactly that.

Palm Jumeirah: the Crescent and Shoreline

The longest detour from the mainland of anywhere in this part of Dubai. Families here report in-home quotes at the top of the published AED 200 to 500 range, which is the travel being priced rather than the teaching.

Al Sufouh

The nearest mainland band and where several campuses island families use sit. Short enough that a tutor based here carries the smallest premium, and still not a reason to choose one over a course specialist.

Dubai Marina and JBR

Dense, close and well supplied with general tuition centres. Higher Level mathematics specialists are no more available here than on the island, which is the point families find hardest to accept.

Al Barsha and Al Barsha South

Twenty to thirty-five minutes depending on the hour, and home to the widest set of IB campuses. The most common origin for a tutor who agrees to travel, and the most common source of a travel premium.

Umm Suqeim and Jumeirah 3

Eastward along the coast and less predictable because the road narrows. A tutor travelling from here to a frond address is committing most of an evening to one lesson.

Al Safa, Al Wasl and Jumeirah 1

The furthest band most island families use for school. Journey times make an in-home mathematics session a two-hour commitment for the tutor, and nobody absorbs that cost for free.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in Palm Jumeirah

Campuses running Diploma mathematics within reach of the island

These are the campuses where a Palm Jumeirah student is most likely to be sitting one of the four Diploma mathematics courses. We support students who attend them and have no relationship with any of them. Ask each campus which of the four courses it actually runs next year and what entry grade it requires for the Higher Level routes, because both are staffing decisions that change.

  • Dubai International Academy, Al Barsha
  • GEMS Dubai American Academy, Al Barsha
  • Nord Anglia International School Dubai, Al Barsha South
  • Jumeira Baccalaureate School, Al Safa
  • Raffles World Academy, Umm Suqeim
  • Emirates International School, Jumeirah 1

British-curriculum campuses where the A Level mathematics route is chosen instead

Families comparing the cost of two Diploma years against two A Level years are usually comparing campuses in this group with the group above. The A Level route has no internally assessed project in mathematics, which removes a block of tutoring hours from a two-year budget.

  • Dubai College, Al Sufouh
  • GEMS Wellington International School, Al Sufouh
  • Kings' School Dubai, Umm Suqeim
  • Jumeirah College, Al Safa
  • Safa British School, Al Safa
  • Horizon English School, Al Safa

Named schools are listed as local context only; IB Gram has no affiliation, partnership or endorsement arrangement with any school, school group or regulator.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Name the course, the level and the papers

Analysis and Approaches or Applications and Interpretation, Standard or Higher Level, and the marks on the last two papers separately rather than the overall grade. A gap of more than a band between a calculator and a non-calculator paper is a diagnosis visible before anybody is paid anything.

  2. 02

Take the free diagnostic and ask for it in writing

One session in which the student works a timed paper while a specialist watches the method. The output is a written note separating procedural slowness, topic gaps, method-mark losses, exam management and course fit, with an hour count against each. You are free to act on it with anybody.

  3. 03

    Buy the smallest version first

A six-hour fluency block, or four to eight hours of method-mark work, or named topics bought one at a time. Not a package, not a retainer, and not thirty hours bought against a problem that takes six. The smallest version is also the fastest way to find out whether the diagnosis was right.

  4. 04

Build exploration milestones into the same calendar

Topic feasibility in DP1, narrowing within a fortnight, the mathematics attempted before any prose, then drafting by the student with feedback passes against the criteria. Spread over months this costs six to ten hours. Compressed into a fortnight before a deadline it costs far more and works less well.

  5. 05

Review against school marks at six weeks, and stop when it is done

Not against how the sessions feel. If two consecutive school assessments show no movement and the tutor cannot explain why, the diagnosis was wrong or teaching is not the limiting factor. Stopping is part of the plan rather than a failure, and we will say so first if we see it.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

The diagnostic comes before the quote

Five different problems present as a weak mathematics grade and they cost between six and forty hours to address. Naming which one exists is a single session, and it is the only step that makes the others efficient. We give the output in writing and you may act on it anywhere.

Every AED figure attributed and dated

Each rate on this page was read from the provider's own page in October 2026 and is named. Three of the six competitor pages examined for this cluster publish no price at all, and two quote in US dollars, which is not a currency a UAE family transacts in. Market rates are not our rates and we do not conflate them.

We will tell you the course is the problem

A student on the wrong one of the four mathematics courses cannot be fixed with hours, and selling them hours would be the most profitable thing we could do. The honest move is a conversation with the head of mathematics, with six weeks of marked work as evidence if a change needs arguing for.

The travel premium named rather than charged

Published in-home rates run AED 180 to 500 with travel inside the figure, against AED 150 to 300 online for a qualified subject tutor, and monthly packages show the same eight hours at roughly double. The difference is a journey to the island. IB Gram does not sell it in the UAE.

The exploration line written down

A tutor explains criteria, says plainly when a topic has too little mathematics in it, teaches what the topic needs, and gives feedback on the student's drafts. A tutor does not write, redraft, structure or produce the mathematics. The test is whether your child could defend every line.

Stopping is part of the plan

Stop a fluency block when drill times stop improving. Stop a topic when an unseen past-paper question is answered unaided. Stop weekly sessions if two school assessments show nothing and nobody can explain why. We review against the school's marks at six weeks precisely so that stopping is possible.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Palm Jumeirah: your questions answered

What should an hour of IB maths tutoring cost a Palm Jumeirah family?+

It depends on which of five problems you are buying a fix for. Published Dubai rates read in October 2026 run AED 45 to 150 for budget online tutoring, AED 150 to 300 for a qualified subject tutor online with Unitors listing IB from AED 200, and AED 200 to 450 and above for a specialist with TutorChase at AED 270. Most Standard Level work, fluency drill and method-mark coaching sits in the middle band. Higher Level Analysis and Approaches and Paper 3 technique are where the specialist band earns its difference. Those are market figures, not IB Gram prices.

Is Analysis and Approaches or Applications and Interpretation the cheaper course to support?+

Applications and Interpretation at Standard Level generally needs the fewest tutoring hours of the four, and Analysis and Approaches at Higher Level needs the most, both because the mathematics is harder and because the specialists are scarcer. The expensive mistake is not choosing the harder course; it is being on the wrong one. A student on Higher Level Analysis and Approaches who belonged on Applications and Interpretation can absorb two years of weekly specialist sessions and still finish low, because the gap is structural rather than a knowledge deficit.

How many hours of maths support does a DP1 student actually need?+

Far fewer than most families buy, if the diagnosis is done first. Procedural slowness, which is the commonest DP1 condition and usually originates in a curriculum transition, takes six to twelve hours. Method-mark illiteracy takes four to eight. A genuine topic gap takes three to six hours per topic. Exam management takes practice rather than teaching. Where a student has two or three real topic gaps plus slow algebra, the total climbs, and you should see that number written down before committing rather than discovering it in instalments.

Where do families waste the most money on IB maths tutoring?+

Buying re-teaching when the problem is fluency or method marks. Re-teaching feels like substance, so it is what families ask for, and it is the most expensive of the options. Second is buying thirty hours against a problem that takes six, because nobody produced an hour count. Third is paying the in-home travel premium - published at AED 180 to 500 against AED 150 to 300 online - for a DP2 student working on Paper 3 technique, where a person in the room adds nothing the lesson needs.

Is a cheaper tutor ever the right choice for Higher Level maths?+

For some of the work, yes, and this is worth knowing. Procedural fluency drill - timed algebra, indices, rearrangement - does not require a Higher Level Analysis and Approaches specialist, and paying the specialist band for it is waste. What does require the specialist is Paper 3 technique, the harder content, and a rescued exploration, because that knowledge is course-specific. Some families sensibly split the work: a middle-band tutor for the drill, a specialist for a short block on the parts that need one.

How much does exploration support cost in tutoring hours?+

Six to ten hours if it is spread across months, and far more if it is compressed into a fortnight before the school's deadline. The milestones are topic feasibility, narrowing within a fortnight of the first idea, attempting the mathematics before any prose is written, the student's own drafting, a feedback pass against the criteria, and a reflection pass. The expensive version happens when a topic with too little mathematics in it is only caught in the final weeks, at which point the work starts again at whatever the going rate is.

Does the graphic display calculator skill need separate paid sessions?+

It needs explicit teaching and it rarely gets any, which makes it unusually good value. Three to five hours is normally enough. Students who grew up with devices are assumed to work the machine out and frequently do not: they reach for the wrong function under time, or produce a correct value with no indication of what was done, which loses method marks on a calculator-permitted paper. Compare your child's calculator and non-calculator paper marks separately. A gap of more than a band tells you where the hours belong.

Should we pay for maths tutoring in DP1 or wait until DP2?+

DP1, and the cheapest version of all is the summer before it. Procedural fluency built in DP1 is available to be used for two years; the same work bought in the February of DP2 competes with revision for five other subjects. DP1 is also when a course change is still possible, which is the most valuable decision available. Waiting until DP2 converts a six-hour fluency problem into a thirty-hour catch-up problem, at the same hourly rate, which is how mathematics budgets quietly quintuple.

Is a group maths class cheaper than one-to-one for the same result?+

Cheaper per hour, and the same result only when the students share the same problem. For revision of content everybody has already been taught, a small group led by somebody competent is a reasonable purchase. For a diagnosed individual problem - this student's algebra, this student's method marks, this student's exploration - the whole value of one-to-one is that the hour goes on that. None of the providers we researched publishes a per-student group rate, so ask for the figure in writing before agreeing to anything.

What does a diagnostic maths session involve and is it chargeable?+

Ours is the free trial, deliberately. The student works a timed section at their actual course and level while the tutor watches where the method breaks, and then they mark it together against published conventions. The output is a written note separating procedural slowness, topic gaps, method-mark losses, exam management and course fit, with an hour count against each. You may act on that document with us or with anybody else. A provider unwilling to give you it in writing is worth noticing.

Do maths tutoring rates in Dubai rise before the May session?+

The published bands we read in October 2026 do not advertise a seasonal increase, but availability tightens sharply from January, and scarce availability behaves like a price rise whether or not the number on the page changes. Higher Level Analysis and Approaches specialists with a usable Gulf-evening slot are the first to be unavailable. The practical answer is to book the slot in the autumn term if you expect to want it in the spring, and to treat a February enquiry for Higher Level support as a scheduling problem rather than a pricing one.

Does the quoted hourly rate include marking of past papers?+

Ask, in writing, because practice varies widely and this is where quoted rates become hard to compare. Marking a student's written work between sessions takes the tutor real time, and some providers include it while others treat the hour as contact time only. For mathematics it matters more than in most subjects, because method-mark discipline is built by having working annotated line by line rather than by discussing it afterwards. A rate that includes marking at AED 250 may be better value than one that excludes it at AED 200.

Is in-home maths tutoring on Palm Jumeirah worth the travel premium?+

Rarely, for a Diploma mathematics student, and the published figures show what you are paying for. In-home visits are quoted at AED 180 to 500 an hour with travel inside the figure, against AED 150 to 300 online for a qualified subject tutor, and monthly packages run about AED 1,599 to 1,799 for four two-hour home visits against roughly AED 799 for eight online sessions. The difference is a journey to the island. IB Gram does not offer home visits in Dubai or anywhere else in the UAE; that is a service we run only in India.

What is the smallest sensible maths tutoring commitment?+

A diagnostic session, then the smallest block the diagnosis justifies, with a review point attached. In practice that is often one free trial plus a six-hour fluency block, measured against timed drills, or four to eight hours of method-mark work measured against the next marked paper. What it is not is a monthly retainer agreed before anybody knows what is wrong. Buying small first also tests the diagnosis, which matters, because a wrong diagnosis costs more than a wrong hourly rate ever will.

How does online delivery change what a Palm Jumeirah family pays?+

It removes the travel from the hour, which is the single largest controllable cost on an island address. The published gap between online and in-home delivery - AED 150 to 300 against AED 180 to 500 with travel inside - is the journey, and a frond or Crescent address sits at the expensive end of it. Online delivery also widens the pool of Higher Level specialists from those willing to drive onto the Palm to all of them, which is why the cheaper option is usually the better-matched one as well.

Diagnose first, then buy the smallest thing that works

Mathematics is where island families spend most and aim worst, and the fix costs nothing to start. Send the course, the level and the marks on the last two papers separately, take the free diagnostic session, and ask for the written note: which of the five problems is present, which topics are genuinely missing, how many hours each needs. Then buy the smallest version and review it against the school's own marks at six weeks. Lessons run one-to-one and live online, in Gulf Standard Time, with no travel priced into the hour.
