IB Physics Tutor in Palm Jumeirah

An IB physics tutor in Palm Jumeirah is usually hired in a hurry and paid for without anyone asking what the hour is buying. This page does the arithmetic first. It publishes the AED bands the Dubai market actually charges, names who publishes each one, and shows which Diploma Physics component each hour should be aimed at. Lessons are delivered live online, one to one, timed to Gulf Standard Time, so the fee covers teaching rather than a drive across the trunk-road junction onto the island.

  • Market AED rates published here, each attributed to the source
  • Live one-to-one video sessions on Gulf Standard Time
  • A Diploma Physics specialist, not a general science tutor
  • A free trial lesson before any fee is discussed

IB & IGCSE in Palm Jumeirah

What a Palm Jumeirah family is actually buying when they pay for Physics help

Palm Jumeirah has no secondary school on it. Children living on the fronds, along the Shoreline, in the Golden Mile or at the tip travel off the island every morning through a single trunk-road junction, most of them to Al Sufouh, Al Barsha, Umm Suqeim or the Jumeirah beach strip. That geography matters to a Physics fee in a way nobody writes about: a tutor who drives to a frond villa is paid for the drive as well as the teaching, and the drive is not negotiable because there is one road on and off.

The market does not help a parent work this out. Of the pages ranking for Dubai IB tutoring searches, three publish no price at all, and the two that do quote US dollars - a currency no Dubai family pays school fees in. One ranking agency's own list of frequently asked questions poses the price question and then declines to answer it. So the first thing this page does is publish the bands, in AED, with the name of whoever published each figure and the month it was read. Those are market rates, not IB Gram's rates. What IB Gram offers before any money is discussed is a trial lesson.

The second thing worth doing is matching money to the mark scheme. Diploma Physics under the current guide is assessed through two written papers and one scientific investigation, and the investigation carries a fifth of the final grade on its own. A family that buys twenty hours of topic revision and none of it on the investigation has spent well and aimed badly. A family that buys four hours in the design week of the investigation, before the data exists, has usually bought the single most valuable block of the two years.

Where money goes wrong is predictable. It goes wrong on hours bought in the eight weeks before the May session, when the content gap is too wide to close and the only available gain is exam technique. It goes wrong on a cheap tutor who can do the physics but cannot read an IB mark scheme, so the student keeps writing descriptions where the command term asked for an explanation. It goes wrong on examiner-badged premium rates for topics a competent specialist fixes at half the price. And it goes wrong on in-home visits where a third of the fee is travel on the Palm's one access road.

This page is written to be used before the first payment. It gives the AED bands and their sources, the component weightings so the hours can be aimed, a comparison of online, in-home and group delivery with the island's travel reality priced in, and an honest account of what a tutor may and may not touch on an investigation that has to be the student's own work. IB Gram delivers all of it as one-to-one online tuition. Home visits are an India-only service and are not sold anywhere in the UAE.

At a glance

  • Published Dubai market bands run from roughly AED 45 to AED 650 per hour, depending entirely on tier
  • Paper 2 carries 44% of the Diploma Physics grade; the investigation carries 20%
  • In-home rates in Dubai include travel, which on the Palm means the trunk-road queue twice
  • A trial lesson costs nothing and tells you more than an hourly rate does
  • Arabic, Islamic Education and Social Studies run alongside the Diploma in every Dubai private school, so the week is fuller than the IB timetable suggests
IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Palm Jumeirah children sit in three different IB programmes depending on their age, and the Physics question looks different in each. The notes below are specific to families commuting off this island rather than to IB programmes in general.

DPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

Diploma Programme

The two-year Diploma, taken with three subjects at Higher Level and three at Standard. Physics sits in Group 4 and can be taken at either level. Under the current guide the course is organised into themes covering motion, the particulate nature of matter, wave behaviour, fields, and nuclear and quantum physics, and is assessed by two written papers plus one scientific investigation. The investigation is internally marked against published criteria and externally moderated.

Dubai's Diploma cohort is small relative to the British-curriculum majority, which is why a Physics specialist is scarce near any one neighbourhood. A Palm Jumeirah student is usually one of a handful taking Physics at Higher Level in their year group, and the school's physics teaching load is spread across IGCSE and Diploma classes. Paid hours here are most often bought because the school cannot timetable extra one-to-one support, not because the teaching is poor.

MYPAges 11-16 · MYP 1-5

Middle Years Programme

Five years of broad study across eight subject groups, with Sciences assessed on four criteria rather than by percentage. MYP Sciences marks knowing and understanding, inquiring and designing, processing and evaluating, and reflecting on the impacts of science. A student can be strong on content and still score poorly because the design and evaluation criteria were never taught explicitly.

Several schools Palm Jumeirah families use run MYP to year 5 and then Diploma, while others switch to IGCSE at 14. That fork decides what Physics looks like at 16. An MYP student who has never written a hypothesis with a controlled variable arrives in Diploma Physics with a gap that shows up in the investigation rather than in the papers, and it is cheaper to close at 14 than at 17.

PYPAges 3-12 · Early years to Year 6

Primary Years Programme

Inquiry-led primary education organised around transdisciplinary themes, finishing with an exhibition in the final year. Science appears as inquiry rather than as a named subject, so a child can leave PYP confident at asking questions and unpractised at the arithmetic that later Physics depends on.

Palm Jumeirah's own provision is early years and nursery; primary-age children already commute. For PYP families the useful Physics-adjacent investment is not Physics at all but number fluency and measurement, because the Diploma Physics students who struggle most are usually struggling with rearranging an equation rather than with the physics in it.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

Physics is rarely the only subject a Diploma student needs help with, and the combinations are predictable. These are the subjects most often requested alongside it by families on the Palm and the Jumeirah strip.

Physics

HL and SL

Two written papers and one scientific investigation. Marks are lost most often on uncertainty treatment in the data-analysis section, on derivations that skip a line of algebra, and on explanation questions answered as descriptions. Higher Level questions assume complete Standard Level fluency rather than extra memory.

Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches

HL and SL

The route most Physics students take, and the one engineering admissions usually expect. Calculus and algebraic manipulation here are the same skills Physics Paper 2 needs, which is why weak maths shows up as a physics mark. The exploration is assessed separately and often collides with the Physics investigation deadline.

Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation

HL and SL

Statistics-heavy and modelling-led, with a graphical-calculator expectation throughout. Taking Physics HL with Applications SL is workable but leaves gaps in algebraic fluency that have to be filled deliberately, and some engineering courses state a preference for Analysis and Approaches.

Chemistry

HL and SL

The other Group 4 subject Palm Jumeirah families most often pair with Physics. Shares the investigation structure and the data-handling demands, so one tutor can sometimes cover both internal assessments even where the content teaching needs two specialists.

Biology

HL and SL

Taken alongside Physics by students aiming at medicine or biomedical engineering. The assessment shape matches Physics, but the mark scheme rewards precise terminology far more, which catches out students who write fluently and imprecisely.

Computer Science

HL and SL

Frequently chosen with Physics HL. The solution development work is a separate internal assessment with its own deadline, and it tends to land in the same term as the Physics investigation. Planning the two together is a scheduling job, not a teaching one.

Design Technology

HL and SL

Offered by fewer Dubai schools and much less tutored, so availability near any single neighbourhood is thin. Shares a design-cycle logic with MYP Design, and students coming from MYP Design usually find the transition manageable.

Sports, Exercise and Health Science

HL and SL

A Group 4 alternative that satisfies the science requirement without Physics-level mathematics. Chosen by students who want a science but not a quantitative one, and it still carries an internal investigation with the same evidence standards.

Environmental Systems and Societies

HL and SL

Can count as either a Group 3 or a Group 4 subject, which makes it useful for timetable problems. Assessment rewards systems thinking and data interpretation, and students strong at Physics data analysis often score well here with little extra teaching.

Theory of Knowledge

Core

Compulsory, with an exhibition and an essay. Physics students often have the sharpest material available for it and the least patience with it. Support here is structural - argument shape, counterclaim, and evidence selection - rather than content teaching.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three delivery shapes account for almost all paid Physics support bought by families on this island. They cost different amounts and buy different things, and the difference is not quality - it is what the hour is spent on.

Weekly one-to-one online, aimed at a component

A fixed slot each week, delivered live over video, with the term's hours allocated in advance to named components rather than to whatever happened in class that week. Over a Diploma year this is the shape that produces the most mark movement per dirham, because the sequencing is planned instead of reactive.

  • Session time agreed against the school day, not the tutor's drive
  • Written note after each session naming the next piece of practice
  • Investigation weeks booked ahead of the design deadline
  • Paper 2 technique worked on all year, not in the final month

Short diagnostic block

Two or three sessions bought deliberately to find out what is wrong before committing to a term. A student who keeps scoring in the middle band usually has one identifiable habit doing the damage, and naming it is cheaper than a package built on a guess. Families on the Palm often use this before deciding whether Physics or Mathematics is the real problem.

  • Past-paper work marked against the published criteria
  • A written list of the specific error patterns found
  • An honest answer if tutoring is not what is needed
  • No obligation to continue into a longer block

Intensive before an exam series

A compressed run of sessions in the weeks before a written series, concentrated on technique and on the topics past papers show the student losing most on. This is the most expensive way to buy marks and the least effective per hour, because content gaps take longer to close than technique gaps. It works when the content is broadly there and the execution is not.

  • Timed papers under exam conditions between sessions
  • Command-term drilling on explanation and derivation questions
  • Uncertainty and graph work treated as a separate skill
  • A realistic statement of what cannot be fixed in the time left

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Palm Jumeirah

01

What an hour of Diploma Physics support actually buys from the Palm

An hour of one-to-one Diploma Physics teaching in Dubai is sold anywhere between roughly AED 45 and AED 650, and the spread is not mostly about quality. It is about tier, format and travel. At the bottom sit online tutors working from published worked examples. In the middle sit qualified subject teachers. At the top sit tutors marketing scarcity. Travel is the hidden variable: an in-home rate in Dubai includes the drive, and from a frond villa on Palm Jumeirah the drive crosses a single access junction twice.

The honest way to think about the fee is to ask what the hour is aimed at. Diploma Physics is assessed by two written papers and one scientific investigation, and those three things fail for different reasons. Paper 1B fails on uncertainty and graph reading. Paper 2 fails on command terms and on derivations with a missing line. The investigation fails at the design stage, weeks before anyone writes anything, usually because the research question cannot generate enough data to analyse. An hour spent on the wrong one of those is not a cheap hour. It is a wasted one.

This is where a Palm Jumeirah family has an advantage they rarely use. Because the island has no secondary school, the local tutor pool was never the relevant pool - every option already involves a commute. Once the commute is accepted as unavoidable, removing it entirely by teaching over live video costs nothing in convenience and widens the choice from whoever happens to live within a drive to every Diploma Physics specialist available. The question stops being who is nearby and becomes who teaches this syllabus.

IB Gram delivers one-to-one Physics tuition to Palm Jumeirah over live video. IB Gram does not sell home visits in the UAE; home visits are a service offered only in India. That is stated here rather than buried, because a family comparing an in-home quote against an online one needs to know which they are buying before they compare the numbers.

02

The AED bands the Dubai market publishes, and who publishes them

Below are the hourly bands currently published by providers serving Dubai, read in October 2026, with the source of each band named in the table. These are market figures and not IB Gram's prices. They are reproduced because a parent cannot judge a quote without knowing the distribution it sits in, and almost nobody in this market publishes one.

Two patterns are worth reading out of the table. The first is that the in-home band starts higher than the online band and ends higher, and the gap is travel. The second is that the specialist band and the premium band overlap heavily, which means a large part of what separates an AED 270 hour from an AED 650 hour is positioning rather than teaching. Where the premium band genuinely buys something is in narrow subject availability, and Physics at Higher Level is narrower than most.

Monthly packaging changes the arithmetic again. Online monthly packages have been published at AED 799 for eight sessions, and in-home monthly packages at AED 1,599 to AED 1,799 for four two-hour visits. Read per hour, the in-home package is not dramatically dearer; read per contact hour of actual teaching with travel stripped out, it is. Bestimate's Dubai 2026 estimates for a weekly one-hour session run AED 240 to 600 a month at the budget end, AED 600 to 1,200 in the middle, and AED 1,000 to 2,000 and above for specialist exam-year support.

Whatever band a family lands in, the figure to ask for is the one that includes everything. Ask whether the rate is per hour or per lesson, whether a 90-minute session bills as 1.5 hours, what a late cancellation costs, whether written feedback between sessions is included, and whether the price changes closer to an exam series. Those five answers move the real cost more than the headline rate does.

Aiming the money: Physics components and what each one is worth

A Diploma Physics grade is built from two written papers and one scientific investigation. Paper 1 is split into a multiple-choice section and a data-analysis section and carries 36% of the grade between them. Paper 2 carries 44%. The scientific investigation carries 20% and is marked inside the school against published criteria before external moderation. Those proportions should decide where paid hours go, and in most families they do not.

The cheapest marks on the page are in Paper 1B, the data-analysis section. Uncertainty propagation, gradient work, linearising a relationship and reading a graph nobody has seen before are all teachable in a small number of hours, and most students have never been taught them explicitly because class time goes on content. A student who can handle uncertainty confidently picks up marks across both papers and in the investigation at the same time, which makes it the highest-return block of hours available.

The dearest marks are in late content recovery. If a student reaches February of the final year without secure work on fields or on nuclear and quantum physics, buying that content back costs many hours and competes with revision for five other subjects. This is the single most common way Physics money is wasted in Dubai: hours bought at the point of panic, at the highest rates of the year, on the problem that was least amenable to a quick fix.

Weightings and component structures change between guides, so the table below should be checked against the subject guide your child's school is actually teaching. Ask the Diploma coordinator which guide and first-examination year applies. A tutor who cannot tell you which guide they are teaching to is not the tutor to buy twenty hours from.

Four spending patterns that waste Physics money on this island

  • Start in the first Diploma year and the same budget buys learning instead of triage
  • Ask what share of an in-home quote is travel before comparing it with an online rate
  • Diagnose whether the problem is Physics or the mathematics underneath it
  • Any offer of finished internal assessment work is a reason to walk away

The first is buying hours too late. A block started eight weeks before a written series can sharpen technique and cannot rebuild a year of content. Families who start in the first Diploma year pay less in total and buy more, because the same money goes on learning rather than on triage. If a student is already inside the final two months, the honest advice is to narrow the aim hard - two topics and exam technique - rather than to buy more hours.

The second is paying for travel without noticing. On Palm Jumeirah the in-home premium is not a rounding error. A tutor coming to a frond villa crosses the trunk-road junction, drives the frond spine, clears a gate, and does it all again afterwards. That time is inside the quoted rate, so a family paying AED 350 for a 60-minute in-home session is buying roughly the teaching an online session delivers for substantially less. Some families want a person in the room and are happy to pay for it; the point is to know the trade being made.

The third is buying the wrong specialism. Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics look adjacent on a school report and are not interchangeable to teach. A general science tutor can keep a Standard Level student afloat and will struggle with Higher Level fields or with a derivation that needs calculus. Conversely, a brilliant Physics tutor cannot fix a mathematics problem that is really about rearranging equations. Diagnosing which subject is failing before buying a term of the wrong one is the cheapest decision available.

The fourth is buying support on work that must be the student's own. Internal assessment help has a hard boundary: a tutor may teach the method, discuss the research question, ask whether the data supports the conclusion, and give feedback on a draft the student wrote. A tutor may not supply text, data or analysis that then gets submitted. Anyone selling a finished investigation is selling the student a malpractice finding, and the hours are worse than wasted.

05

Online, in-home and group delivery, priced against the Palm's one road

Palm Jumeirah is connected to the mainland by a single trunk road, and every frond is a gated cul-de-sac hanging off it. The monorail runs along the trunk and serves the hotel strip rather than the residential fronds, so it does not help a school run or a tutor visit. For a parent weighing delivery options, that layout is the whole argument: the island is pleasant to live on and expensive to drive to on a weekday afternoon.

The table below prices the three realistic options against that geography. The figures in the AED column are market bands from the sources named earlier in this page, not IB Gram's rates. The travel column is the part no competitor page quantifies, and on this island it is the part that decides what an hour is worth.

Read across the rows and a pattern appears. Online delivery converts the whole fee into teaching and draws on every available Diploma Physics specialist rather than on the small number who live within a comfortable drive of the island. In-home delivery buys physical presence and pays for the junction. Group delivery buys a lower per-student rate and gives up the thing one-to-one is for, which is stopping on the exact place where this student's reasoning breaks.

None of this makes in-home tutoring wrong. For a nine-year-old who needs an adult in the room, presence matters more than specialism. For a Higher Level Physics student eight months from a written series, the opposite is true, and the Palm's geography makes the trade unusually clear. IB Gram's answer is online one-to-one for every UAE address, which is why the island's single access road never appears on an invoice.

Budgeting two Diploma years instead of one panic term

Most Physics money in Dubai is spent in the last six months of a two-year course, at the highest rates of the year, on the hardest problem to fix. Spreading the same budget across both years changes what it buys. In the first Diploma year the money goes on building uncertainty and graph fluency, on getting command terms right while there is time for habits to form, and on the investigation design before the data exists. In the second year it goes on consolidation and timed practice.

A workable shape looks like this. Term one of the first year: a short diagnostic block and then fortnightly sessions. Term two: a concentrated run on the data-analysis skills that feed every component. Term three, when the investigation is set: a few hours before the design is fixed, then feedback on the student's own draft. Second year: weekly sessions through the content-heavy terms, then timed-paper work with technique review. That sequence rarely costs more in total than a panicked final-term intensive and consistently buys more.

There is also a school-fee context worth knowing. KHDA confirmed in May 2026 that private-school fees in Dubai would not rise for the 2026-27 academic year, under the emirate's second economic incentives package. For a family already paying Dubai school fees, that freeze is the one piece of budget stability in the year, and it is the natural moment to decide what tutoring is worth over two years rather than reactively each term.

Finally, decide what you will not buy. Do not buy a package before a diagnostic session. Do not buy an exam-season intensive for a subject the student has not been attending properly, because attendance is the problem and hours will not fix it. Do not buy hours for a sibling simply because one child benefited. And do not buy anything on the promise of a particular grade - no tutor can promise a score, and anyone who does has told you something important about the rest of their claims.

07

The scientific investigation: what a Physics tutor may and may not touch

A fifth of the Diploma Physics grade comes from one investigation the student designs, carries out and reports. It is also where paid support is most often sold dishonestly, because a parent under deadline pressure is an easy customer. The boundary is not vague. Everything submitted must be the student's own, and the school signs a declaration to that effect.

Inside the boundary, a tutor can do a great deal. They can teach the physics the investigation depends on. They can press on whether a research question is answerable with the equipment available, which is the single most common design failure. They can explain what the published criteria reward, show worked examples of uncertainty treatment, and ask the questions an examiner would ask of a conclusion. They can read a draft the student has written and say where the reasoning does not hold. All of that is teaching, and all of it is allowed.

Outside the boundary is anything that puts the tutor's words, numbers or analysis into the submitted file. A tutor supplying data, rewriting sections, or handing over a template that becomes the report has crossed from teaching into malpractice, and the consequence falls on the student. One operator in this market openly sells finished internal assessments. That is an academic-integrity breach and an expulsion risk, not a shortcut, and no amount of urgency makes it worth considering.

The practical advice for a Palm Jumeirah family is to buy hours early and ask for process coaching, not rescue. Two or three sessions in the week the research question is being chosen are worth more than ten in the week before submission, cost less, and leave no ambiguity about whose work was submitted. Ask any prospective tutor directly what they will and will not do with internal assessment work. The answer is a reliable test of everything else.

08

Starting from Palm Jumeirah, and what the first session costs

  • Bring a marked paper, not just a report card, to the first conversation
  • A trial lesson costs nothing and tests teaching rather than marketing
  • Coverage limits for narrow Higher Level specialisms are stated before booking
  • Ramadan scheduling usually moves sessions to a post-Iftar slot

The first step is a conversation about what is actually wrong, which is free. Useful things to have to hand: the current school report with the Physics grade and any predicted grade, which subject guide the school is teaching to, whether the student is at Higher or Standard Level, the date of the next school assessment, and a recent marked paper if one exists. A marked paper is worth more than a report, because it shows where marks were lost rather than how many.

The second step is a trial lesson at no cost. It exists to answer one question: can this tutor teach this student this syllabus. Watch for whether the tutor asks the student to explain their reasoning rather than explaining it to them, whether they name the component being worked on, and whether they can say which guide they are teaching to. Those three signals predict the next twenty hours better than any rate card does.

The third step is honest about availability. Diploma Physics at Higher Level is a narrow specialism and UAE-based availability for a specific weekday slot is not guaranteed. Where no UAE-based specialist is free at the time a family needs, the alternative offered is a specialist from the wider network teaching on Gulf Standard Time, and that is stated before anything is booked rather than discovered afterwards. Nobody else in this market discloses a coverage limit; this page does.

The fourth step is the schedule itself. Sessions are timed around the school day and the trunk-road reality, which usually means a start after 5:00pm for a secondary student travelling back from Al Barsha or Umm Suqeim, and a different pattern during Ramadan, when a post-Iftar slot often works better than an afternoon one. Lessons are delivered live online, one to one. IB Gram does not operate home visits anywhere in the UAE, and no UAE office or centre exists - the service is the teaching, delivered over video.

Where we tutor

Nearby areas we cover around Palm Jumeirah

Students on this page come from the island itself and from the coastal communities either side of it. Session timing differs by a surprising amount between them, because the constraint is the trunk road rather than the distance.

Palm Jumeirah fronds

Gated single-lane spines off the trunk road, with villa gates at the far end. A visitor arriving at 4:30pm faces the junction queue and then the frond itself. Online sessions remove both and let a 4:00pm start actually begin at 4:00pm.

Shoreline and Golden Mile

Apartment blocks along the eastern trunk, with visitor parking and building access to negotiate. Families here often have two children on different school runs, so a fixed evening slot is worth more than a flexible afternoon one.

Al Sufouh

The nearest off-island school cluster and the first stop for most Palm commuters. Secondary days here typically end mid-afternoon, which sets the earliest realistic session time for a student who still has to cross back onto the island.

Umm Suqeim

A dense school belt along the beach road with heavy drop-off and pick-up traffic. Students travelling back to the Palm from here arrive later than the distance suggests, so sessions scheduled before 5:00pm regularly start late.

Jumeirah 1, 2 and 3

Low-rise villa districts running along Beach Road with several schools inside them. A number of Palm families keep younger children in Jumeirah schools and move them off-island for secondary, so the two commutes run in opposite directions.

Al Barsha and Al Barsha South

Where much of the IB and American provision sits. The furthest regular Palm commute, and the one most likely to make a 4:00pm in-home visit impossible for a tutor based near the school.

Pearl Jumeira and La Mer

Newer coastal developments with a similar commuting pattern to the Palm and the same shortage of nearby secondary schools. Families here ask the same Physics questions and face the same thin local tutor pool.

Al Safa and Al Wasl

Inland of Beach Road, with a cluster of long-established British-curriculum schools. Several Palm students sit IGCSE here before moving to a Diploma school, which is where the Physics route decision gets made.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in Palm Jumeirah

Al Sufouh and Al Barsha - the main off-island destinations

This is where most Palm Jumeirah secondary students actually study. Between them these campuses carry the bulk of the IB and American provision within a reasonable commute of the island, which is why Diploma Physics questions from the Palm usually trace back to one of them.

  • Dubai College, Al Sufouh
  • GEMS Wellington International School, Al Sufouh
  • American School of Dubai, Al Barsha 1
  • Dubai International Academy, Al Barsha
  • GEMS Dubai American Academy, Al Barsha
  • Nord Anglia International School Dubai, Al Barsha South

The Jumeirah and Umm Suqeim coastal campuses

The second destination group, reached along Beach Road rather than Sheikh Zayed Road. Schools here run a mix of IGCSE into A Level and IGCSE into Diploma, so two Palm students the same age can be sitting entirely different Physics courses.

  • Kings' School Dubai, Umm Suqeim
  • Emirates International School, Jumeirah 1
  • Jumeirah English Speaking School, Jumeirah
  • Jumeirah College, Al Safa
  • Jumeira Baccalaureate School, Al Safa
  • Raffles World Academy, Umm Suqeim

Schools are named here as context for the neighbourhood's education market; IB Gram is an independent tutor-matching platform with no affiliation to, endorsement from or contract with any school listed.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Tell us what the marks say

A short conversation about the current Physics grade, the level, the school's subject guide, and where the last paper lost marks. A marked script is the most useful thing a parent can send, because it shows the error pattern rather than the outcome.

  2. 02

    Match a Physics specialist

A tutor who teaches Diploma Physics specifically, at the level required, with availability in a slot that works after the commute back to the island. Where UAE-based availability is thin for a narrow Higher Level requirement, that is said plainly before any booking.

  3. 03

    Take the free trial lesson

One session at no cost, with the student present and doing the work rather than listening. It tests whether the tutor can diagnose, whether they name components, and whether the student engages. If it does not work, nothing has been spent.

  4. 04

Plan the term's hours against components

Hours allocated in advance to Paper 1B skills, Paper 2 technique and investigation process, with the investigation blocks booked before the design deadline rather than after it. The plan is written down so the spending can be reviewed against it.

  5. 05

Review at the end of the term

A look at what moved and what did not, using marked work rather than impressions. If the subject being tutored is not the subject causing the problem, that gets said, even where it means recommending fewer hours.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

The rates are published and attributed

Every AED band on this page carries the name of whoever published it and the month it was read. Most pages in this market publish no price at all, and two quote US dollars. A parent cannot judge a quote without the distribution it sits in.

Hours are aimed at named components

Diploma Physics fails differently in Paper 1B, Paper 2 and the investigation. Support planned against those three, rather than against last week's lesson, is the difference between hours that move a grade and hours that fill an afternoon.

No travel inside the fee

Lessons run live over video, so none of the fee pays for crossing the trunk-road junction onto the island. The whole hour is teaching, and the session starts at the minute it was booked for.

A stated boundary on internal assessment

A tutor teaches the physics, discusses the research question and gives feedback on the student's own draft. Nothing submitted comes from the tutor. That boundary is written on the page because one operator in this market sells the opposite.

Coverage limits disclosed before booking

Higher Level Physics is a narrow specialism and UAE-based availability for a specific slot is not assured. Where a specialist from the wider network would teach instead, on Gulf Standard Time, that is said in advance rather than discovered later.

Independent, with no school or regulator tie

IB Gram is an independent tutor-matching platform. It holds no accreditation from KHDA, the Ministry of Education, the IB or any examination board, has no contract with any school named here, and makes no claim to any.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Palm Jumeirah: your questions answered

What does an hour of IB Physics support cost for a Palm Jumeirah family?+

Published Dubai rates read in October 2026 run from roughly AED 45 an hour at the budget online end to AED 650 for premium named tutors. Qualified online subject tutors are advertised from around AED 150 to 300, IB specialists at AED 200 to 450 and above, and in-home visits at AED 180 to 500 because travel is inside the rate. Those are market figures from EdFlik, Tutopiya, Unitors, TutorChase, Bestimate and BartyED, not IB Gram's prices. What IB Gram offers before any fee conversation is a trial lesson at no cost, so the teaching can be judged first.

Is it cheaper to put two children in the same Physics session?+

Per hour, yes. Small-group rates in Dubai are published at roughly AED 60 to 120 per student, against AED 150 or more for one-to-one. Whether it is cheaper per mark depends on the two students. Siblings taking the same level, at the same point in the course, with similar gaps, can share a session usefully. Siblings a year apart, or one at Higher and one at Standard Level, cannot: the session drifts to the middle and neither gets the diagnosis that one-to-one is for. A diagnostic session each is the cheaper experiment before committing.

How many Physics hours does an HL student usually need in the final year?+

There is no reliable average, and anyone quoting one is guessing. What is predictable is the shape. A Higher Level student with secure content usually needs weekly sessions through the content-heavy terms, a concentrated block on data analysis and uncertainty, two or three hours around the investigation design, and timed-paper technique work in the final term. A student with real content gaps needs more hours and should start sooner, because the same money buys learning in the first year and triage in the last. Start with a diagnostic session and plan the term from what it finds.

Does a higher hourly rate mean a better Physics tutor?+

Not reliably. The specialist band and the premium band overlap heavily in published Dubai rates, so a substantial part of the gap between an AED 270 hour and an AED 650 hour is positioning rather than teaching. What a higher rate does buy, sometimes, is scarcity: Higher Level Physics is a narrow specialism and genuine availability is limited. The useful tests are not price. Can the tutor name which subject guide they teach to, which component they are working on, and what they will not do with internal assessment work? A trial lesson answers all three.

Which part of IB Physics is worth paying for first?+

The data-analysis section of Paper 1. Uncertainty propagation, gradient work, linearising a relationship and interpreting an unfamiliar graph are all teachable in a handful of hours, and most students have never had them taught explicitly because class time goes on content. The skills then pay off twice more, in Paper 2 and in the scientific investigation, which carries 20% of the grade. After that, command-term work on Paper 2 explanations. Late content recovery is the most expensive block available and should be the last thing bought, not the first.

Do Physics tutoring rates rise as the May session gets closer?+

Effective cost does, even where the headline rate does not move. Availability tightens in the months before a written series, the slots left are the inconvenient ones, and the work left to do is the kind that responds least to hours. Some providers also package exam-season intensives at a premium. The practical consequence for a Palm Jumeirah family is that the same budget buys more in the first Diploma year than in the last term. Ask any provider directly whether their rate changes by season, and get the answer before booking a block.

What does the scientific investigation cost in tutoring hours?+

Far less than families expect, if the hours are bought early. Two or three sessions in the week the research question is being chosen typically do more than ten in the week before submission, because the common failure is a design that cannot generate analysable data. Later support is limited to what is legitimate: explaining the published criteria, teaching the physics involved, and giving feedback on a draft the student has written themselves. Nothing in the submitted file may come from the tutor. Buying early is both cheaper and the only version that leaves no ambiguity.

Is group Physics revision worth the saving over one-to-one?+

For broad revision across a syllabus, a group at AED 60 to 120 per student is reasonable value. For diagnosis, it is not, because a group cannot stop on the specific place where one student's reasoning about fields or uncertainty breaks down. Most families get the best result from a mixture: group or self-directed work for coverage, one-to-one hours aimed at the two or three error patterns a marked paper reveals. If only one can be afforded, buy the diagnosis, because revising the wrong thing thoroughly is the most expensive outcome available.

Can we pay for a single diagnostic Physics session rather than a block?+

Yes, and for a student stuck in the middle bands it is usually the right first purchase. One session spent on recent marked work, read against the published criteria, normally identifies one or two habits doing most of the damage - a missing line in derivations, uncertainty ignored, explanation questions answered as descriptions. Knowing that is worth more than a term bought on a guess. It also means the honest answer is available: sometimes the problem is mathematics rather than physics, or attendance rather than either, and no amount of Physics tutoring fixes those.

What happens to the fee if a Palm Jumeirah session is cancelled late?+

Ask this before booking anything, with any provider. Cancellation terms move the real cost of tutoring more than the headline rate does, and they vary widely: some providers bill in full inside 24 hours, some rebook once, some charge nothing. For a family on the island, the related question is what happens when a school event or a traffic problem makes a start time impossible. Online sessions are easier to shift than in-home visits for the obvious reason that nobody has already driven across the trunk-road junction to get there.

Does an hourly tutoring rate in Dubai include VAT?+

That depends on the provider, and it should be asked directly rather than assumed. The UAE VAT treatment of education services is a matter for the Federal Tax Authority, and a tutoring page is not the place to state it as settled fact. What a parent can reasonably insist on is clarity about the specific quote in front of them: whether the figure shown is the final amount payable, whether any tax is added at invoice, and whether the provider holds a tax registration number. Any provider unwilling to answer that in writing has answered a different question.

Why does a Physics specialist cost more than a general science tutor?+

Because the supply is much smaller and the work is different. A general science tutor can keep a Standard Level student moving and will usually struggle with Higher Level fields, with nuclear and quantum content, or with a derivation requiring calculus fluency. A specialist also knows the assessment: which command terms demand what, how the investigation criteria are applied, where the data-analysis section allocates marks. In published Dubai bands that difference shows as roughly AED 150 to 300 for a qualified general tutor against AED 200 to 450 and above for a subject specialist.

Is Physics tutoring in the first Diploma year money well spent?+

It is the best-value window in the course. In the first year the money goes on building habits while there is time for them to form: uncertainty fluency, command-term discipline, and a sound investigation design before any data exists. In the final term the same money buys triage on the problem least able to be fixed quickly. Families who start early generally spend less in total and get more for it. The counter-argument is that a student may not need help in the first year, which is exactly what a single diagnostic session will tell you.

Does my child need laboratory equipment at home for online Physics?+

No. The practical work for the scientific investigation is done at school, with the school's equipment, under the school's supervision, and that is where it belongs. What an online Physics session needs is modest: a stable connection, a device with a decent camera, a headset, a graphical calculator where the school specifies one, and some way to show working - a tablet with a stylus, or a phone positioned over paper. The single biggest improvement most families can make is the headset, because physics explanation depends on hearing the reasoning clearly.

How do we check a Dubai Physics tutor may legally charge for lessons?+

Private tutoring in the UAE runs on a permit. The MoHRE private tuition work permit was introduced under Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, is granted free of charge for two years, and covers categories including registered school teachers, government and private-sector employees, unemployed residents, university students and students aged 15 to 18. Individuals tutoring without one are subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws, and no fine schedule is published. Ask a prospective tutor whether they hold the permit, and check the official MoHRE service page for how it is issued.

What is the cheapest honest way to raise a Physics 4 to a 6?+

Spend first on finding out why the 4 is a 4. In most cases a marked paper shows two or three repeating habits rather than broad ignorance: explanation questions answered as descriptions, uncertainty omitted, derivations with a skipped step, or arithmetic collapsing under time pressure. Those are cheap to fix and worth whole grade boundaries. Then buy hours on the data-analysis section and on investigation process, since both pay off across components. No tutor can promise a particular grade, and a provider who offers one has told you how seriously to read their other claims.

Decide what the hour is for before you pay for it

Palm Jumeirah families already accept a commute for school, so there is no reason to accept one inside a tutoring fee as well. The published Dubai bands on this page show what the market charges and who charges it; the component table shows where those hours actually move a Diploma Physics grade. Start with a conversation and a free trial lesson, bring a marked paper rather than a report card, and plan the term's hours against Paper 1B, Paper 2 technique and the investigation design. Lessons run live online, one to one, on Gulf Standard Time, with the coverage limits stated before anything is booked.
