IGCSE Private Tuition in the UAE

IGCSE private tuition in the UAE works backwards from a date that is already fixed. Your child's exam series, the final entry deadline that sits months before it, and the zone timetable their centre has to use are set by Cambridge or Pearson, not by the school and not by you. This page maps that calendar, names the AED other providers publish at each point in it, and explains how IB Gram delivers one-to-one lessons live online, in Gulf Standard Time, to families from Dubai to Fujairah.

  • Live one-to-one lessons online, scheduled in Gulf Standard Time
  • Cambridge and Pearson Edexcel specialists matched by syllabus code
  • Entry deadlines, forecast-grade dates and zone timetables mapped first
  • Feedback on your child's own work only, never a written submission

IB & IGCSE in the UAE

The IGCSE year is a countdown, and the first date is not the exam

Most UAE families start thinking about IGCSE private tuition in the UAE when a mock paper comes home with a grade on it. By then several decisions that cap the result have already been taken, quietly, by people other than the parent. The final entry deadline has passed or is about to. The tier has been chosen. The board is fixed. The exam timetable version has been issued to the centre. None of those can be reopened by working harder in April.

That is why this page is organised as a calendar rather than a sales pitch. Cambridge publishes its key dates for each series, and they read as a warning to anyone planning forwards. For the March 2027 series the exam period runs from 3 February to 4 March 2027, but final entries are due on 27 November 2026 and forecast grades on 27 February 2027. The results reach centres on Cambridge Direct on 13 May and certificates follow in late June. The gap between the entry deadline and the first paper is more than two months, and the gap between the last paper and the certificate is nearly four.

Pearson runs a different rhythm. Pearson Edexcel International GCSE exams are available in May or June and in November each year, and the November 2026 final timetable runs from late October to 19 November 2026. June 2026 results went to centres on 19 August 2026 and to students on 20 August 2026; November 2025 results reached students on 22 January 2026. A family whose child sits Edexcel in November is making a retake decision in January, not in August, and a tuition plan that ignores that is three months out of step.

A tutor cannot change any of those dates. What a tutor can do is tell you which weeks between now and the first paper are worth paying for, which subjects return the most marks per hour at this point in the countdown, and what evidence the school needs before it fixes a tier or submits a forecast grade. That is a scheduling problem as much as a teaching one, and it is the reason we ask for the series and the syllabus code before we talk about anything else.

Lessons for UAE families are delivered one-to-one over live video. IB Gram does not send tutors to addresses anywhere in the Emirates; home visits are a service we run only in India. We say that before you book rather than after, because a fixed deadline is exactly the situation in which an hour lost to Sheikh Zayed Road traffic is an hour that does not come back. The trade is simple: you give up a person in the room and you get a specialist in the right syllabus code, on the hour, every week, wherever in the UAE you live.

At a glance

  • Entry deadlines for a Cambridge series fall months before the exam window, and fix the tier
  • Cambridge allocates every centre to one of six zones, each with its own timetable version
  • Pearson publishes provisional timetables ahead of each series, so dates can still be revised
  • Forecast grades are submitted by the centre on a date most parents never see
  • Market rates for a qualified online subject tutor run roughly AED 150-300 an hour
  • Arabic, Islamic Education and Social Studies run alongside IGCSE in every Dubai private school

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Four stages sit around the IGCSE years, and each has its own clock. Knowing which one your child is in decides whether tuition is building foundations, closing a tier gap, or protecting a grade in the ten weeks before a paper.

LSAges 11-14 · Years 7-9

Cambridge Lower Secondary and Checkpoint

The two or three years before IGCSE teaching begins. Cambridge runs Lower Secondary Checkpoint tests in March, May and October, which gives a school an external reading of a cohort well before any IGCSE entry is made. For a parent this is the cheapest point in the whole sequence to fix an arithmetic or writing weakness, because nothing is yet riding on it and no entry has been submitted.

In the UAE this stage is where curriculum switching happens most. A child arriving from a CBSE or American middle school lands in Year 8 or 9 and has a gap that is specific rather than general: algebraic manipulation, extended writing under timed conditions, or the practical write-up conventions that IGCSE science expects. Checkpoint results in October or May are the most useful diagnostic a UAE family will get for free.

IGAges 14-16 · Years 10-11

Cambridge IGCSE

Two years, assessed almost entirely by external papers sat in a series. Subjects carry a four-digit syllabus code that decides everything practical: 0580 Mathematics, 0625 Physics, 0620 Chemistry, 0610 Biology, 0500 English First Language. The code tells a tutor which past papers are the right ones, which are out of date, and whether the subject is tiered into Core and Extended tier entry or taught as a single route.

Cambridge IGCSE is the dominant upper-secondary route in UAE British-curriculum schools, and 37 per cent of Dubai private-school enrolment follows a UK curriculum according to KHDA's 2024-25 figures. That share is why the UAE tutoring market is deeper for 0580 than for almost any other code, and why a parent can be selective about who teaches it rather than taking whoever is free.

IGCAges 14-16 · Years 10-11

Pearson Edexcel International GCSE

The same qualification level, a different board and a different calendar. Codes run on the 4-prefix pattern: 4MA1 Mathematics A, 4PH1 Physics, 4CH1 Chemistry, 4BI1 Biology. Pearson Edexcel International GCSE exams are available in May or June and in November, and Pearson publishes provisional timetables for future series, including International GCSE November 2027, which is why a plan should link the live timetable rather than restate a date.

Several UAE schools run a mixed entry, with mathematics on one board and sciences on another, because the heads of department chose separately. That is normal and it is also the single most common reason a family buys the wrong past papers. Ask the exams officer for the board and code per subject in writing, then put it at the top of the tuition plan.

ASAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

Cambridge International AS and A Level

The two years after IGCSE, and the reason an IGCSE grade matters beyond the certificate. Entry requirements for AS courses are set by the school and usually read as a minimum IGCSE grade in the subject or a closely related one. A child half a grade short in Year 11 can find a subject choice closed in Year 12, which is a consequence of the IGCSE series that nobody mentions in Year 10.

Ministry of Education equivalency on the British track asks for accredited subjects at Advanced or Advanced Subsidiary level on top of the IGCSE count, so the A Level years are part of the same paperwork chain. The published requirement is one accredited subject at Advanced Level with a grade of no less than E, or two accredited subjects at Advanced Subsidiary Level at the same grade.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

Ten codes cover most IGCSE private tuition requests from UAE families. The descriptions below name where marks actually go missing, because that is what decides whether a subject needs twelve weeks or four.

Mathematics (Cambridge 0580)

Core and Extended

Tiered, and the tier is fixed at entry. Marks go missing in the same four places every series: algebraic fractions, bounds and rounding, transformations of graphs, and the multi-step problems that carry method marks a student never claims because they stopped writing. Extended adds content the Core papers never ask about.

Mathematics A (Pearson 4MA1)

Foundation and Higher

Two papers, both calculator, which changes revision strategy against Cambridge entirely. The Higher tier rewards fluency with surds, indices and iterative methods. The commonest avoidable loss is unit conversion inside compound-measure questions, and the second is arithmetic done on a calculator without a written line to earn method credit.

Physics (Cambridge 0625)

Core and Extended

Electricity and electromagnetism are where Extended candidates lose most, followed by the practical paper's variable-control questions. Students who can recite a formula still drop marks on the sentence that explains why the reading changed. Past-paper work on command terms returns more than re-reading notes ever does.

Chemistry (Cambridge 0620)

Core and Extended

Moles calculations and the organic reaction pathways carry the heaviest Extended marks, and the qualitative-analysis tables are pure recall that students leave until the last fortnight. Ionic equations and state symbols account for a steady drip of single marks across every paper in the set.

Biology (Cambridge 0610)

Core and Extended

The content volume, not the difficulty, is the problem. Transport in plants, homeostasis and inheritance carry the longest extended-response questions, and marks are lost to answers that describe rather than explain. Data questions on the practical paper need interpretation practice, not more fact learning.

English First Language (Cambridge 0500)

Single route

Directed writing and the two reading passages decide the grade. Students who read well still lose marks for not following the audience, purpose and form instruction in the question. Timed writing with a marked archive of their own earlier attempts moves this subject faster than any other on the list.

English as a Second Language (Cambridge 0510 and 0511)

Core and Extended

Common in UAE schools with large multilingual cohorts. The exercises are formulaic and highly trainable: note-making, summary within a word limit, and the two writing tasks. The speaking component is conducted and recorded by the centre, which puts its date in the school's hands rather than Cambridge's.

Business Studies (Cambridge 0450)

Single route

Marks sit in application and evaluation, not in definitions. Candidates who learn the terms score in the lower bands because they never use the case-study context in the answer. Past-paper work here is about answer structure against the mark scheme's levels, which is quick to teach and quick to improve.

Economics (Cambridge 0455)

Single route

Diagram accuracy carries disproportionate weight, and so does the ability to argue both sides before reaching a judgement. Students lose marks by drawing a correct diagram and never referring to it in the prose. The data-response paper rewards reading the table before reading the question.

Computer Science (Cambridge 0478)

Single route

Paper 1 theory is learnable; the algorithm and pseudocode work is where grades separate. Trace tables, nested loops and file handling are the recurring losses. This subject tutors unusually well over a shared screen, because the code and the trace table are both on it and both saved afterwards.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three shapes of tuition fit three positions in the countdown. The right one depends almost entirely on how many weeks sit between today and the first paper, and on whether a tier or an entry is still open.

Weekly one-to-one, planned back from the series

A fixed slot each week, with the syllabus mapped backwards from the exam window so that every topic is covered before the forecast-grade date rather than before the exam. This is the mode that suits Year 10 and the first term of Year 11, when the tier is still genuinely open and evidence for it is still being built.

  • One 60-minute slot a week, same time, in Gulf Standard Time
  • Topic order set by the series date, not by the textbook's order
  • A written note after each lesson naming what was covered and what is next
  • Tier evidence gathered deliberately, before the entry deadline closes it

A timed past-paper block for the final ten weeks

Two sessions a week in the last stretch, both built around a paper sat under timed conditions and then marked line by line against the official mark scheme. The teaching happens inside the marking. This is where command terms, method marks and the habit of writing down working stop being advice and start being measurable.

  • A full paper per week under exam timing, by the correct syllabus code
  • Scripts annotated on a shared screen and saved for the student to keep
  • A running list of recurring losses, by topic and by mark type
  • Zone-correct timetable used so the sequence matches the real exam order

A short diagnostic block after a mock

Four to six sessions that start with the mock script rather than with a syllabus. The first hour reads the paper for patterns: where the marks went, whether the cause was recall, method or timing, and which topics are worth the remaining weeks. Families often buy this before deciding whether a longer plan is needed at all.

  • Begins with the marked mock, not with a generic assessment
  • A written diagnosis naming cause, not just topic
  • An honest estimate of what the remaining weeks can and cannot change
  • No obligation to continue into a weekly plan

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in the UAE

01

What a parent searching for IGCSE private tuition in the UAE is actually asking

The question behind the search is almost never "what is tutoring". It is some version of: my child sits these papers on a date I cannot move, there are this many weeks left, and I want to know whether paying for hours will change the grade and how many hours it takes. That is a question about a calendar, a syllabus code and a price, and it has a real answer.

The short version. One-to-one IGCSE support from a qualified subject tutor runs at roughly AED 150-300 an hour across the UAE market as providers publish it, with in-home visiting rates running higher because travel is inside the number. The number of hours that changes a grade depends far more on when you start than on how good the tutor is: twelve weeks out, a subject can usually be moved by a tier-relevant margin; four weeks out, what moves is exam technique and mark claiming, not content coverage.

The longer version is the rest of this page, organised by date. Which series your child is entered for, when the entry was or will be submitted, which board and code each subject uses, which of the six Cambridge zones the centre sits in, and when forecast grades go in. Those five facts decide what a tuition plan can do, and four of the five are held by the school's exams officer rather than by you. Asking for them in writing is the highest-value twenty minutes a parent will spend this term.

What a tutor cannot do is also worth stating early, because two of the pages competing for this search quietly imply otherwise. No tutor can move an exam date, see an unreleased paper, influence a forecast grade, or promise a grade. Anyone selling any of those four things is selling something that does not exist, and in the case of a written submission is selling something that puts the student's whole entry at risk.

02

Three exam series a year, not one: the IGCSE calendar has more doors than the Diploma

Cambridge International runs IGCSE, O Level and International A Level exams in a June series and a November series, and publishes separate key dates for a March series. Primary and Lower Secondary Checkpoint tests sit in March, May and October. Pearson Edexcel International GCSE exams are available in May or June and in November each year. For a UAE family that means the IGCSE route has more than one legitimate sitting, which the two-year Diploma does not in the same way.

This matters because a series is a decision, not a given. A child who is clearly short in one subject in February has options that a parent who assumes June-or-nothing never considers: entering that subject in a later series, splitting a mixed entry across two series, or taking the IGCSE November series as a planned second attempt rather than a panic measure. The school decides what it will administer, but it decides in response to a conversation, and the conversation has to happen before the entry deadline.

The counterweight is honest too. A later series buys weeks and costs momentum. A student carrying one subject into November is revising alone while classmates have moved on to AS courses, and the tuition hours needed to hold a subject warm over a long gap are real hours. The decision is a trade between time and isolation, and it should be made with the dates in front of you rather than after results day.

The table below sets out the series a UAE candidate may realistically meet, with the dates each board itself publishes. Where a date is in the table, it came from the board's own page in October 2026. Where a date is not in the table, it is because the board publishes it per series and a plan should link the live timetable rather than restate a figure that can be revised.

Counted backwards from 27 November: what the Cambridge March 2027 dates actually ask of a family

Take the published dates for the Cambridge IGCSE March series in 2027 as a worked example, because they show the shape of every series. The exam period runs 3 February to 4 March 2027. Final entries are due 27 November 2026. Forecast grades are due 27 February 2027. Results appear on Cambridge Direct on 13 May and certificates in late June. Read forwards, that is a list. Read backwards, it is an instruction sheet with four hard edges and about fourteen weeks of usable time.

The first edge is the Cambridge IGCSE final entry deadline, and it is the one that costs families most. On 27 November a subject list and, where the subject is tiered, a Core or Extended tier entry are submitted. After that date the papers your child will sit are decided. A parent who starts tuition in January to "get the top grades" may discover the tier already caps the available range. Evidence for a tier decision is built in October and November, which means tuition that is meant to influence a tier has to start in September.

The second edge is the forecast-grade date, 27 February 2027 in this series. Forecast grades are the centre's prediction submitted to Cambridge, and while they do not set the result, they are built from the same classwork and mock evidence a school uses for everything else. A tutor cannot and should not try to influence a forecast. What a tutor can do is make sure the work the school is looking at in January and February is the student's best current work rather than their worst.

The third and fourth edges are the exam window and results day, and the interesting part is the gap between them. Papers finish on 4 March and results land on 13 May: ten weeks in which nothing can be done about the grade and a great deal can be done about what follows it. That is the window for the next course's prerequisites, for the Ministry of Education equivalency file, and for a realistic conversation about whether a November entry is needed.

Six timetables for one series: the Cambridge exam zone timetable, and why the version matters

Cambridge allocates every centre to one of six administrative zones, and in its own guidance for exams officers it states that it is essential to use the correct version of the timetable for your zone. It also states plainly that Cambridge cannot accept responsibility for candidates who miss an exam after the wrong zone timetable was used. That is an unusual sentence for an examination board to publish, and it exists because the mistake happens.

For a UAE parent the practical consequence is that a timetable found through a search engine is not necessarily your child's timetable. A PDF shared in a parents' group by a family in another country may be a different zone, with the same subject on a different day or session. Printing it and revising against it produces a revision plan that peaks on the wrong date, which is a worse outcome than having no plan at all in the final fortnight.

The fix costs one email. Ask the exams officer for the zone-correct timetable PDF for your child's centre and series, and for the candidate's own statement of entry listing subject, paper, date and session. Those two documents are the spine of a final-weeks tuition plan. Without them, a tutor sequencing revision is guessing at the order in which papers arrive, and the order matters a great deal when two sciences fall on consecutive days.

Once the zone-correct timetable is in hand, the sequencing work is mechanical and genuinely useful. Papers that fall early get their timed practice earliest. Subjects separated by a week get a holding session in the gap rather than a full revision block. A pair of papers on the same day gets a rehearsal of that day, including the break, because stamina across two three-hour sittings is a skill nobody practises by accident.

05

Core and Extended tier entry is a deadline decision, not a teaching decision

Several Cambridge IGCSE subjects are tiered. Mathematics 0580 is the one most UAE families meet, and the sciences follow the same pattern. The two tiers are different papers covering different amounts of the syllabus, with different ranges of grades available, and the exact range for each tier is published in the syllabus document for that code on Cambridge's own site. Read the syllabus for your child's code rather than taking a general rule from a forum.

The part that catches families is the timing. The tier is fixed when the entry is submitted, which in the March 2027 series means 27 November 2026. From that moment the ceiling on the result is set by which paper the student will sit, and no amount of February tuition changes it. A child entered at Core who turns out to be capable of more cannot be moved up by working harder in the exam. The decision is reversible only before the deadline and only by the school.

That makes the autumn term the most consequential tuition window in the two-year course, and almost nobody treats it that way. A student sitting on the boundary between tiers needs the extended content taught early enough that the department has evidence to justify the higher entry. Ten weeks of focused work in September to November is worth more, in grade terms, than twenty weeks in the spring, because the spring weeks are spent inside a ceiling the autumn weeks could have raised.

If the deadline has already passed, the honest advice changes shape. Within a Core entry the work becomes maximising the available range: securing every mark the Core papers actually offer, cleaning up method-mark habits, and preparing the student for a possible later-series entry at the higher tier if the next course needs it. A tutor who tells you a tier can be changed in March is either mistaken or not reading the entry paperwork.

06

Cambridge against Pearson Edexcel International GCSE: two boards, two clocks

A surprising number of UAE families do not know which board sets their child's papers, and a surprising number of children sit both. Departments choose independently, so mathematics on Cambridge 0580 and physics on Pearson 4PH1 inside one school year is ordinary. Each board publishes its own timetables, its own key dates and its own results flow, which means a child on a mixed entry is living on two calendars at once.

The differences that matter to a tuition plan are practical rather than philosophical. Past papers are not interchangeable: a 0580 paper and a 4MA1 paper test overlapping content with different question styles, different mark-scheme conventions and different calculator assumptions. A tutor given the wrong code will teach competent lessons against the wrong assessment, and that error is invisible until a mock comes back lower than everyone expected.

Results flow differs too, and it changes when a decision can be made. Pearson sent June 2026 results to centres on 19 August 2026 and to students on 20 August 2026, and November 2025 results reached students on 22 January 2026. Cambridge publishes results to centres through Cambridge Direct, with certificates following later; in the March 2027 series that is 13 May for results and late June for certificates. A family planning a retake needs to know which of those dates governs them.

One more board-level habit is worth building. Pearson publishes provisional timetables ahead of each series, including International GCSE November 2027, and marks them as provisional for a reason. Any plan that hard-codes a provisional date will eventually be wrong. Link the official timetable page, check it each term, and treat the printed copy in the kitchen as a snapshot rather than a contract.

Practicals, coursework and the line a tutor does not cross before a deadline

  • A tutor may explain the assessment criteria and what each one actually rewards
  • A tutor may read a draft, ask questions and name what is missing
  • A tutor may not supply text that appears in an assessed submission
  • Alternative-to-practical skills are written skills, and teach well over a shared screen
  • Laboratory time belongs to the school and is not something tuition replaces

IGCSE science assesses practical skill, and how it does so depends on the entry. Some candidates sit a practical test at the centre; others sit an alternative-to-practical written paper that examines the same skills on paper: identifying the dependent variable, spotting the control that was missing, reading a scale correctly, explaining an anomalous result. A tutor working online cannot run a titration with your child. A tutor can teach every one of those skills, because they are assessed in writing.

That distinction gets lost in the marketing of this SERP, so it is worth being concrete. A shared screen with a past practical paper on it, a student annotating the method, and a tutor asking why the thermometer reading was taken at that moment is exactly the work the paper rewards. What the online format cannot replace is the school's own laboratory time, which is the school's job and is covered by the timetable your fees already pay for.

Coursework components raise a harder line, and deadline pressure is when it gets tested. A tutor may teach the underlying skill, explain what the assessment criteria reward, read a draft and ask questions about it, and point to a paragraph that does not do what the student thinks it does. A tutor must not supply sentences that end up in the submission. The words in an assessed piece have to be the student's own, and a family who accepts help past that line is risking the entry, not improving it.

There is a competitor in this market selling finished Internal Assessments for a four-figure AED sum. We say plainly what that is: an academic-integrity breach that puts the student, not the seller, in front of a malpractice panel. If a provider's offer includes producing assessed work, the correct response is to walk away, regardless of how close the deadline is. A tutor who says no to that request is protecting your child's certificate.

08

IGCSE tuition rates in AED, and what the month you start does to the bill

Three of the six most visible pages in this market publish no price at all, and the two that do quote in US dollars, which no UAE family transacts in. So here are the AED bands, attributed to whoever published them, read in October 2026. These are market rates, not an IB Gram price list. For our own numbers the honest answer is a consultation and a trial lesson at no charge, one per family, with no card details taken.

The bands are wide for a reason. At the bottom, a university-student tutor working online is cheap and genuinely useful for a Year 10 student who needs company and structure rather than exam craft. At the top, a named specialist charging several hundred AED an hour is buying you diagnosis speed: someone who reads a mock script and tells you in forty minutes what is wrong and how many weeks it takes. Both are rational purchases at different points in the countdown.

What changes the bill more than the tier is timing. Starting in September for a June series means a single weekly hour across thirty-odd weeks. Starting in March for the same series means two or three hours a week across ten, often across more subjects at once because the panic is general rather than specific. The second plan can cost more in total than the first and still deliver less, because content coverage needs weeks and no price buys weeks back.

Two line items catch UAE families out. Visiting rates have travel inside them, so an AED 300 in-home hour is not an AED 300 teaching hour once the driving is priced; and hourly rates quoted per session are not the same as rates quoted per 60 minutes, which is worth confirming before the first invoice. Ask any provider for the rate per 60 minutes, the cancellation terms, and whether the figure includes VAT.

A visiting tutor against live one-to-one online, with an entry deadline running

Searches for a home tutor in the UAE are honest searches, and they deserve an honest answer rather than a redirect. A visiting tutor is a real service that real providers sell here, usually at AED 180-500 an hour with travel inside the figure. For some families it is the right purchase: a young child who needs a person in the room, a household with no quiet space for a video call, a subject where the parent wants to be present.

For IGCSE specifically, and especially inside a countdown, the arithmetic usually goes the other way. The binding constraint is not willingness to pay; it is whether a tutor who has actually taught 0607 International Mathematics, or 0478 Computer Science, or the Extended tier of 0620 Chemistry, happens to live within a drive of your area on a Tuesday at six. In Al Ain, Fujairah or Umm Al Quwain that constraint is severe. Online removes it entirely.

The second factor is the thing a deadline punishes: dead time. A visiting tutor in Dubai or Abu Dhabi peak traffic spends thirty to sixty minutes each way, and that time is paid for whether it appears as a travel surcharge or sits inside a higher hourly rate. Across a ten-week revision block those minutes add up to several teaching hours that a fixed exam date does not give back.

So the position is stated rather than implied. IB Gram delivers tuition to UAE families as one-to-one lessons over live video, scheduled in Gulf Standard Time; we do not send tutors to addresses anywhere in the Emirates, and home visits are a service we run only in India. The comparison below is the case for that, made on what actually differs rather than on adjectives.

The regulator behind your child's school, and the three subjects sharing the same week

Five bodies regulate private schools in the UAE and most parents can name only the one in their own emirate. KHDA is responsible for enhancing and overseeing the quality of private education in Dubai. ADEK supervises the licensing and accreditation of private schools in Abu Dhabi. The Sharjah Private Education Authority regulates private education in Sharjah, Ras Al Khaimah's Department of Knowledge does the same there, and the Ministry of Education supervises private schools in Ajman, Umm Al Quwain and Fujairah.

Two of those bodies do more than inspect. Sharjah's and Ras Al Khaimah's authorities approve tuition fees, curricula, programmes, courses, activities and assessment methods, so curriculum approval sits with the emirate regulator rather than only with the school group. Dubai's regulator has also acted on fees: KHDA confirmed in May 2026 that there would be no increase in school fees for private schools in the emirate for the 2026-27 academic year, under Dubai's second economic incentives package.

The regulator also decides what else is in the week. Arabic, Islamic Education and Social or Moral Studies are mandatory in all Dubai private schools regardless of the licensed international curriculum, and KHDA's requirements were to be implemented by the start of the 2025-26 academic year. KHDA requires separate classes for Arabs and non-Arabs in Arabic as a first language, Islamic Education and Social Studies, and states that combined classes for both groups are strictly prohibited because the curriculum expectations and language of instruction differ.

For a tuition plan this is not trivia; it is timetable arithmetic. A Year 11 student carrying nine IGCSE subjects plus three mandatory UAE subjects has fewer free evening hours than the subject count alone suggests, and the mandatory subjects have their own assessments on the school's calendar rather than Cambridge's. KHDA calculates mandatory-subject instructional time on a 40-minute lesson unit and advises that no mandatory lesson runs shorter than 25 minutes, which gives a parent a way to check what the week actually contains.

Ramadan, Eid and the UAE term calendar against a fixed exam window

The Islamic calendar moves roughly eleven days earlier against the Gregorian one each year, so Ramadan drifts steadily across the academic year rather than sitting in a fixed slot. Over a run of years it crosses the spring revision period, then the mock season, then the exam windows themselves. A family planning a two-year IGCSE course should check where Ramadan falls in each of those years rather than assuming last year's pattern holds.

In a Ramadan month the teaching week genuinely changes shape. School hours shorten, afternoon energy is different, and the useful tuition slot often moves to after Iftar. Eid then removes several days entirely. If a revision block is costed in sessions rather than in weeks, a month containing Ramadan and a month containing neither are not the same purchase, and a plan that does not say so will quietly fall behind.

The practical approach is to count teaching weeks rather than calendar weeks when planning backwards from a series, and to decide in advance which subjects get the reduced weeks. Content-heavy subjects such as 0610 Biology are poor candidates for a short, low-energy week; technique work on a past paper already attempted is a much better fit, because it is shorter, more active and does not need a long run at a new topic.

Two other UAE dates are worth putting on the same chart: National Day at the start of December, which lands close to the autumn entry deadlines, and the long summer break, which sits between a June series and the results that follow it. Neither is an obstacle, but both are weeks that a plan either uses deliberately or loses by default. Families who schedule around them rather than through them lose the fewest hours.

12

After results: the retake decision and the Ministry of Education equivalency file

Results day starts a short period in which several decisions are open at once, and families who have not thought about them in advance tend to make them in a rush. The first is whether a grade is worth querying through the centre, which has its own deadline set by the board and runs through the exams officer rather than the parent. The second is whether a subject should be entered for the next available series. The third is paperwork.

Ministry of Education equivalency is the paperwork, and it is one of the clearest gaps in this market: it is mentioned by essentially none of the competing pages. On the British track students must submit proof of five accredited subjects in GCSE or IGCSE certificates with a grade of no less than E or grade 3, plus one accredited subject at Advanced Level with a grade of no less than E, or two accredited subjects at Advanced Subsidiary Level at the same grade. Arabic and Islamic education are not included among the five required subjects.

That detail matters because a competing page in this market tells UAE parents they need six IGCSE subjects. The published requirement read on the source cited here is five, with Arabic and Islamic education excluded from that count. A family planning subject choices around the wrong number may pay for a subject they did not need, or drop one they did. Verify the current rule on moe.gov.ae or with the emirate's attestation channel before acting on any version of it, including this one.

What IB Gram does not do is handle equivalency, attestation or any part of the official process, and no tutoring is required for it. We describe it because it is a date on the same calendar as everything else on this page, and because a certificate issued in late June and a university deadline in July leave less room than families expect. For the IB track specifically, we publish no points figure, because no IB equivalency threshold in this project has been read on a Ministry source.

Where we tutor

Areas we cover across the UAE

The exam calendar is federal but the school system is not. Each emirate has its own regulator, its own inspection cycle and its own term dates in practice, and all three change when a tuition hour can realistically happen.

Dubai

KHDA territory, and the deepest British-curriculum market in the country: 227 private schools teaching 17 curricula in 2024-25, with seven more opening for 2026-27. Tuition slots cluster from 16:00 to 20:00 Gulf Standard Time because school runs and after-school activities fill the gap before that.

Abu Dhabi

ADEK supervises the licensing and accreditation of private schools in the emirate. Its professional-ethics rules for private and charter school staff bar teachers from paid private tutoring of students enrolled at their own school, which quietly removes the most obvious local option for many families.

Al Ain

Also ADEK, with a smaller British-curriculum cohort and correspondingly thinner local supply for the less common codes. A family looking for a 0478 Computer Science or 0455 Economics specialist here is choosing between online and nobody, which is the honest version of that comparison.

Sharjah

The Sharjah Private Education Authority regulates private education in the emirate and approves tuition fees, curricula, programmes, courses, activities and assessment methods. Curriculum approval sitting with the regulator is worth knowing before assuming a Sharjah school runs an identical programme to a Dubai sibling school.

Ajman

The federal Ministry of Education supervises private schools in Ajman. Families here often commute to Sharjah or Dubai schools, which pushes a realistic weekday session start past 17:30 once the drive home is counted. Online slots are easier to protect than a visiting tutor's arrival time.

Ras Al Khaimah

RAK's Department of Knowledge regulates private education in the emirate and, like Sharjah's authority, approves curricula and assessment methods. Zero of the competitor pages researched for this project mention RAK at all, which tells you roughly how much local tuition supply exists for a specific syllabus code.

Fujairah

Ministry of Education territory on the east coast, two hours from the Dubai tutoring pool in peak traffic. For IGCSE sciences and the tiered maths codes, live online lessons are the only route that puts a subject specialist in front of a Fujairah student on a weekday evening.

Umm Al Quwain

Also supervised federally by the Ministry of Education, and the smallest private-school market in the country. Entry administration here runs through the same Cambridge and Pearson channels as everywhere else, so the calendar on this page applies unchanged even where local tutors do not exist.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in the UAE

Dubai British-curriculum schools

These are the Dubai schools whose Year 10 and Year 11 cohorts sit Cambridge IGCSE or Pearson Edexcel International GCSE papers. Boards differ by department within a single school, so the code on the past paper matters more than the school name when a tutor is matched.

  • Dubai College
  • Jumeirah College
  • Dubai English Speaking College
  • Jumeirah English Speaking School Arabian Ranches
  • Repton School Dubai
  • Kings' School Al Barsha

Abu Dhabi and Al Ain

Abu Dhabi's British-curriculum cohort sits under ADEK, whose ethics rules stop a child's own teacher from taking them privately for payment. That makes the board and code the practical starting point for a family here rather than a recommendation from the staff room.

  • Brighton College Abu Dhabi
  • Cranleigh Abu Dhabi
  • The British International School Abu Dhabi
  • Al Yasmina Academy

Sharjah and the northern emirates

Northern-emirate schools run the same Cambridge and Pearson series on the same deadlines, with far less local tuition supply behind them. Families in this cluster are the clearest case for live online lessons, because distance stops being a factor in who teaches the subject.

  • Sharjah English School
  • Wesgreen International School
  • RAK Academy
  • Fujairah Private Academy
  • Our Own English High School, Sharjah

Schools are named here as context for the UAE exam system only. IB Gram is an independent tutor-matching platform with no affiliation, partnership or endorsement from any school, school group, regulator or examination board.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Send three facts, not a long message

Board, syllabus code and exam series, per subject. Add the school and the year group if you have them. Those three facts narrow the shortlist faster than a paragraph of description, because they decide which past papers and mark schemes a tutor has actually worked with.

  2. 02

A trial lesson at no charge

One trial lesson per family, no card details taken, with the tutor we think fits the code. It is a working lesson rather than a sales call: bring a marked mock or a past paper question the student got wrong, and you will learn more about the match in an hour than from any profile.

  3. 03

A plan dated backwards from the series

After the trial you get a written plan that starts at the exam window and works back: topics by week, which weeks are short because of Ramadan or Eid, and where the entry deadline and forecast-grade date fall. If the plan cannot reach the target in the weeks available, it says so.

  4. 04

Weekly lessons with a marked archive

Same slot each week in Gulf Standard Time, with annotated scripts saved so the final fortnight has something real to revise from. You get a short note after each lesson naming what was covered and what is next, which also gives you something concrete to raise at a parents' evening.

  5. 05

What happens if no specialist is free

Some codes are thin, and exam season is when they are thinnest. If nobody who has taught your child's exact paper is available at your preferred hour, we say so and offer the alternatives: a different slot, a tutor strong in the adjacent code, or a waiting period with an honest estimate. We do not fill a 0607 request with a general maths tutor.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

Matched by syllabus code, not subject label

A tutor who has taught 0580 Extended for years is not interchangeable with one who has taught 4MA1 Higher, even though both teach IGCSE maths. We ask for the code first because it decides which past papers, mark schemes and question styles the lessons are built on.

The calendar comes before the curriculum

Every plan starts from the series, the entry deadline and the zone-correct timetable. That ordering is why our plans differ from a generic syllabus march: the sequence is set by when papers arrive, and the short weeks are allocated deliberately rather than discovered in April.

Prices quoted as the market publishes them

Every AED figure on this page is attributed to the provider or rate table that published it, with the month we read it. We do not present other people's rates as ours, and we do not publish a price list in place of a conversation about how many hours your child's position actually needs.

A stated line on assessed work

Tutors teach, question and give feedback on the student's own work. They do not supply sentences for a submission, and they will decline if asked. In a market where one provider sells finished coursework, saying this plainly is a practical safeguard for the student's entry rather than a slogan.

Delivery stated before you book

Lessons for UAE families are one-to-one over live video, scheduled in Gulf Standard Time. Our visiting service operates only in India. You know that before the trial lesson rather than after a deposit, which is more than two of the pages competing for this search manage.

Sources you can check yourself

The dates here come from cambridgeinternational.org and qualifications.pearson.com, the regulator map from u.ae, the mandatory-subject rules from KHDA's own guidance, and the equivalency figures from the reported Ministry clarification. Where a date is unverified, including every IB session date, we say so instead of printing it.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in the UAE: your questions answered

Which of the three Cambridge series should my child be entered for?+

Most UAE British-curriculum schools run the June series as the standard Year 11 sitting, and that is the default unless there is a reason to deviate. The November series suits a planned second attempt or a school whose teaching year ends differently. Cambridge also publishes key dates for a March series, with the 2027 exam period running 3 February to 4 March, but whether your child's centre offers it is a centre decision rather than a parental one. Ask the exams officer which series the school will administer for each subject, and ask before the final entry deadline rather than after a mock.

What is the last moment we can move my child from the Core tier to the Extended tier?+

The tier is fixed when the final entry is submitted for that series. In Cambridge's published March 2027 dates that is 27 November 2026, more than two months before the first paper. After the entry closes, the papers your child will sit are decided and the range of grades available is set by those papers. This is why tuition intended to influence a tier has to start in the autumn term, when the department is still gathering the classwork and mock evidence it will base the decision on. If the deadline has passed, the work becomes securing every mark the entered papers actually offer.

Can a parent make an IGCSE entry directly, or does the school have to do it?+

For a student enrolled at a school, entries are made by the centre, not by the family. The exams officer submits the subject list, the tier where the subject is tiered, and the forecast grades on the board's dates. A parent's influence is entirely upstream of that: asking which series and tier are planned, providing evidence where it is relevant, and confirming the board and code per subject in writing. A home-schooled or externally entered student is different and is entered as an IGCSE private candidate through a registered exam centre, which the family arranges directly with that centre on the centre's own deadlines.

What is a forecast grade, and does it change my child's result?+

A forecast grade is the centre's predicted grade for a candidate, submitted to the board on a published date: 27 February 2027 in Cambridge's March 2027 series. It does not set the result, which comes from the marked papers. It is built from the same classwork and mock evidence the school uses for everything else, so the way to influence it is to make sure the work the school sees in the weeks before it is the student's best current work. A tutor should never attempt to influence a forecast grade directly, and a provider offering to is offering something that is not theirs to give.

Why does my child's exam timetable differ from a cousin's abroad on the same day?+

Because Cambridge allocates every centre to one of six administrative zones, and each zone has its own version of the timetable. Cambridge's guidance for exams officers states that it is essential to use the correct version for your zone and that it cannot accept responsibility for candidates who miss an exam after the wrong version was used. A PDF shared by a family in another country may therefore be a genuine Cambridge timetable and still be the wrong one for your child. Ask the exams officer for the zone-correct timetable and the candidate's statement of entry, and build the revision sequence from those two documents.

Does the Pearson Edexcel International GCSE route suit a child who starts late?+

It can, because the sitting pattern differs. Pearson Edexcel International GCSE exams are available in May or June and in November each year, and the November 2026 final timetable runs from late October to 19 November 2026. A child who is clearly short in one subject has a nearer legitimate sitting on that pattern than a single-series plan allows. The trade-off is isolation: a student carrying one subject later than their class is revising alone while classmates move on. Decide with the published dates in front of you, and remember the board choice is made by the department rather than by the family.

How much does IGCSE private tuition in the UAE cost per hour?+

Market rates in the UAE, as providers themselves publish them and read in October 2026, run roughly AED 45-150 an hour for a budget online or university-student tutor, AED 150-300 for a qualified subject tutor online, AED 180-500 for a visiting tutor with travel inside the figure, and AED 200-450 or more for an IGCSE or A Level specialist. Premium named tutors are published as high as AED 650. Monthly packages seen in this market include AED 799 for eight online sessions and AED 1,599-1,799 for four two-hour visits. Ask any provider for the rate per 60 minutes rather than per session.

We are starting in January for a June series. Where should the hours go?+

Into the subjects where marks are most recoverable per hour, which is usually not the subject with the lowest mock grade. A mock script read properly will show whether marks were lost to recall, to method, or to running out of time, and those three causes have very different costs in weeks. Technique losses, such as not writing working or not following the command term, improve fast. Content gaps across a whole topic take longer. With roughly twenty teaching weeks and Ramadan likely inside them, spreading thinly across five subjects usually produces less movement than concentrating on two.

My daughter is home-schooled in Sharjah. Where does she actually sit the papers?+

Through a registered exam centre that accepts external or private candidates. The centre, not the family, holds the relationship with the board, submits the entry and allocates the candidate to its zone timetable, so its own deadlines sit earlier than the board's published ones. Contact centres well before the series you are aiming at, confirm which subjects and tiers they will accept, and ask about any practical or speaking components, because those are conducted by the centre and some centres do not offer all of them. The Sharjah Private Education Authority regulates private education in the emirate and is the right first reference point for the school system around that choice.

The alternative-to-practical paper worries us. Can that be taught over video?+

Yes, because it is a written paper testing written skills: identifying variables, spotting an absent control, reading a scale, drawing a results table correctly, explaining an anomaly. A past practical paper on a shared screen, annotated as the student works through it, is close to the ideal format for that work. What online tuition does not replace is the laboratory time your child's school provides, which belongs to the school timetable. If your child sits a centre-based practical test rather than the written alternative, the preparation is the same skills plus the school's own bench practice.

Will a tutor look at my son's geography coursework before he hands it in?+

A tutor can read a draft, explain what each assessment criterion actually rewards, ask questions about the argument, and point out a paragraph that does not do what your son thinks it does. What a tutor must not do is supply sentences that end up in the submission. The text in an assessed piece has to be the student's own, and accepting help past that line risks the entry rather than improving the mark. If a provider offers to take a piece of coursework from draft to finished, treat that as a reason to walk away, however close the deadline is.

Does a tutor teaching my child online from outside the UAE need a MoHRE permit?+

The UAE private tuition work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023 and applies to individuals providing private tutoring in the UAE. It is granted free of charge for two years, and eligible applicants include teachers registered in government or private schools, government and private-sector employees, unemployed individuals, school students aged 15 to 18 and university students. Individuals offering private tutoring without a permit from MoHRE are subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws. For a tutor's own position, the right reference is MoHRE's private tutor licensing service page rather than a tutoring company's summary of it.

Ramadan falls in the middle of our revision block. How should the plan change?+

Count teaching weeks rather than calendar weeks, and decide in advance which subjects take the short ones. School hours shorten, afternoon energy is different and the useful slot often moves to after Iftar, then Eid removes several days entirely. A content-heavy subject such as 0610 Biology is a poor fit for a reduced, low-energy week; technique work on a paper the student has already attempted fits far better, because it is shorter, more active and needs no long run at new material. Agreeing this before the month starts prevents a plan quietly falling two topics behind.

How many subjects should we buy tuition for at the same time?+

Fewer than most families start with. A Year 11 student carrying nine IGCSE subjects plus the mandatory Arabic, Islamic Education and Social Studies lessons has limited genuinely free evening hours, and three tuition subjects on top of that is often the practical ceiling before the student is simply tired. Two is a better opening position: the subject with the largest recoverable gap and the one that matters most for the next course's entry requirement. Add a third only if the week clearly has room, and review after the mocks rather than committing for the year.

Results land in May for a February exam. What do we do in the gap?+

In Cambridge's March 2027 series, papers finish on 4 March, results reach centres on Cambridge Direct on 13 May and certificates follow in late June. Nothing in that gap changes the grade, and several things in it change what follows. Use it to confirm the entry requirements for the next course, to prepare a decision for each likely grade including a later-series entry, and to open the Ministry of Education equivalency file so a late-June certificate is not the thing holding up an application. If a query about a grade is being considered, the centre raises it on the board's deadline.

We may move to the UK mid-year. Do the IGCSE entries move with us?+

Entries belong to the centre that made them, so they do not travel automatically. A mid-year move usually means the new school enters the student for the series it administers, which may be a different board, a different tier or a different series altogether. Ask both schools early: the current one for the entry details already submitted and the specifications in use, and the new one for what it can accept. For UAE paperwork, get a transfer certificate and any attestation the emirate requires before you leave, because chasing it afterwards is considerably harder.

Start with the date, not with the grade

If you do one thing after reading this, ask your child's exams officer for four things in writing: the board and syllabus code for each subject, the series they will be entered for, the tier where the subject is tiered, and the zone-correct timetable for the centre. With those in hand, any competent tutor can tell you what the remaining weeks can realistically achieve and how many hours it takes. Send them to us with the year group and we will match a tutor who has taught that exact paper, offer one trial lesson at no charge with no card details taken, and give you a plan dated backwards from the first paper. Lessons run one-to-one over live video, in Gulf Standard Time.
