IB Tutor near me in Arabian Ranches

Typing IB tutor near me into a phone in Arabian Ranches returns agencies rather than teachers, because a search engine matches a radius while you are trying to match a Higher Level subject. This page runs the comparison properly: what a five, fifteen and fifty-kilometre radius actually contains, the six ways IB tuition is sold in Dubai set against each other, and the real cost per useful hour. IB Gram teaches one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time, with a free trial lesson first.

  • Six provider models compared on rate, permit and replacement policy
  • Published AED rates attributed to the provider and the model, never to us
  • One-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time; home visits are India-only

IB & IGCSE in Arabian Ranches

Why a radius is the wrong filter for a Diploma subject

A near-me search does something very specific. It takes your location, draws a circle around it, and ranks what it finds inside the circle by a mixture of proximity, prominence and relevance. That works beautifully for a dentist, a locksmith or a padel court. It works badly for Higher Level Chemistry, because the thing that makes a Chemistry teacher useful has no spatial distribution at all. The circle is doing its job. It is simply answering a different question from the one you asked.

Run from Arabian Ranches, the circle contains Ranches Souk, the villa clusters, a primary school, and then a widening ring of apartment communities. What it does not contain, at any radius a car will tolerate at four in the afternoon, is a meaningful number of people who have taught the Diploma. Those teachers are employed by schools in Dubai Hills, Al Barsha, Nad Al Sheba and Umm Suqeim, and the code of conduct attached to the MoHRE private tuition work permit bars them from privately tutoring students enrolled at their own school.

So the comparison worth running is not Arabian Ranches against Arabian Ranches 2 or against Dubai Hills Estate. Communities on this belt share one travelling pool and one group of schools, and the answer comes out the same from every one of them. The comparison worth running is between the ways IB tuition is actually sold: an online match, a specialist agency, an international marketplace, a freelance tutor, a tuition-centre group class, and whatever the school already provides after hours. Those six differ enormously, and almost nobody sets them side by side.

This page does that, with the figures each model publishes, and it adds the number that decides most of it: cost per useful hour rather than cost per booked hour. A booked hour and a useful hour are different quantities once you account for a cancelled drive, a shared class or an hour spent on the wrong component. Several of the cheapest options in this market look expensive once that arithmetic is done, and one of the dearest looks reasonable.

IB Gram does not run home visits in Dubai; sending tutors to houses is a service we operate only in India. Teaching here is one-to-one over live video, scheduled in Gulf Standard Time, with screen sharing for past papers, working and internal assessment drafts. That is a real trade and it is set out as one: you give up the person in the room, and you gain the entire pool of people who can teach the subject at the hour your child is free. For a Standard Level course the trade is close. For a Higher Level science in the second year it is not close at all.

At a glance

  • A near-me search ranks by proximity; a Diploma course needs ranking by subject
  • Diploma teachers cluster near the schools that employ them, not near the villas
  • Six provider models are compared here on rate, permit and replacement policy
  • Cost per useful hour differs sharply from the advertised hourly rate
  • Lessons run live online; home visits are a service we operate only in India
  • If nobody is free for your course and slot, you are told so with the options
IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

The four IB programmes make very different demands on whoever teaches them, which is the practical reason a single nearby tutor rarely covers a family's whole need. Each entry below is written around the question this page is about: who can actually teach this, and does living nearby make any difference to it?

DPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

Diploma Programme

Six subjects, three at Higher Level, assessed by external papers plus internal components, with up to three further points from Theory of Knowledge and the Extended Essay. Teaching it well requires familiarity with the current subject guide, the command terms, the internal assessment criteria and the way each paper is structured. A subject degree is the entry requirement, not the qualification.

This is where proximity fails hardest for families in Arabian Ranches. The Diploma teachers within reach are employed by schools in Dubai Hills, Nad Al Sheba and Al Barsha, and most of them are unavailable privately to their own students. The pool a radius returns is therefore the pool that happens to drive, which is a different thing from the pool that can teach.

MYPAges 11-16 · MYP 1 to MYP 5

Middle Years Programme

Eight subject groups assessed against four criteria marked out of eight, with no external examination before the final year. Teaching it requires reading the school's own task sheets and criterion clarifications, because there is no public syllabus code and no bank of past papers to work from. Framework knowledge matters as much as subject knowledge here.

A nearby tutor is no more likely to have read an MYP criterion grid than a distant one, and a parent cannot tell from a profile. The useful screening question is what a task-specific clarification is and who writes it. Anyone who has taught the programme answers in a sentence; anyone who has not will talk about topics instead.

PYPAges 3-12 · FS1 to Year 6

Primary Years Programme

Inquiry-led primary years with no external examination, closing with the PYP Exhibition. Reporting is built around learner-profile attributes rather than marks. Useful support at this stage is reading fluency, number confidence and the habit of writing down a method, none of which needs a programme specialist so much as a good primary teacher.

This is the one age at which a nearby tutor genuinely has an advantage, because a young child often works better with an adult in the room and the subject depth required is modest. It is also the age at which families in Arabian Ranches have the most local options, since primary provision inside these communities is strong.

CPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

Career-related Programme

Diploma courses paired with a career-related study and a core of personal and professional skills, a reflective project, service learning and language development. Licensed by a small number of Dubai schools. Support needs are narrower than a full Diploma: usually the two or three Diploma courses plus the reflective project.

Rare enough in Dubai that a local search will not return anyone who has taught it. If a student in Arabian Ranches is on this route, the honest route to support is to name the specific Diploma courses being taken and treat the rest as process coaching, rather than to look for a Career-related Programme specialist who probably is not there.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

The reason distance stops mattering is visible subject by subject. Below, each course is described by what it assesses and by how specialised the teaching has to be, which is the honest basis for deciding whether a strong local graduate will do or whether you need somebody who has marked the component.

Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches

HL and SL

Two papers at Standard Level, three at Higher, plus the exploration. Paper 3 at Higher Level is an extended structured investigation and is the component that most clearly separates a mathematician from somebody who has taught the course. Specialisation required: high, and higher again in the second year.

Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation

HL and SL

Modelling, statistics and heavy technology use, with its own exploration. The content is more approachable than Analysis and Approaches, but the exploration demands a genuine data set and a defensible method. Specialisation required: moderate at Standard Level, high at Higher Level.

Physics

HL and SL

Papers plus the scientific investigation. Uncertainty handling is the component where strong IGCSE students are most often caught, because nothing in IGCSE asked for it. Specialisation required: high; this is the course Dubai is shortest of at Higher Level in an evening slot.

Chemistry

HL and SL

Papers plus the investigation. Organic mechanisms, energetics and the precise level of detail each command term expects carry most of the marks that move. Specialisation required: high, and a graduate chemist without teaching experience will usually over-answer rather than under-answer.

Biology

HL and SL

Papers plus the investigation, with statistics inside it. The subject punishes volume: a student who writes everything they know scores below one who answers the command term exactly. Specialisation required: moderate for content, high for the investigation and for examination technique.

Economics

HL and SL

Papers plus three internal assessment commentaries built from recent news articles, with word limits and diagram requirements. Higher Level adds quantitative work. Specialisation required: high for the commentaries, because the rubric is specific and rarely guessed correctly from first principles.

Psychology

HL and SL

Papers plus an experimental study at Standard Level and additional Higher Level content. Students lose marks by describing studies rather than using them as evidence in an argument. Specialisation required: moderate, and a psychology graduate usually adapts quickly with the current guide in hand.

Geography

HL and SL

Papers plus fieldwork written up as internal assessment. Command terms and the use of case-study detail carry the marks; the fieldwork write-up has its own criteria and word limit. Specialisation required: moderate, rising sharply for the fieldwork component itself.

Language B and ab initio

HL, SL and ab initio

Reading, listening, writing and an individual oral, with the oral weighted heavily. The teaching requirement is a near-native speaker who also knows the assessment format, which is a narrower pool than either qualification alone. Specialisation required: high, and the language is rarely available locally on demand.

Theory of Knowledge, the Extended Essay and internal assessment

Core, taken by every Diploma student

Up to three points, supervised inside the school. A tutor may teach argument, structure and question framing, read the student's own drafts and give written feedback. A tutor may not produce any part of the work. Specialisation required: moderate, but the honesty boundary matters more here than expertise does.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Four ways to buy an hour, described by what the hour contains rather than by what it costs. All IB Gram teaching in the UAE runs one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time; the other entries describe what the Dubai market offers so the comparison on this page has something real on both sides.

One-to-one online, matched on the course

The same specialist each week, selected for the subject and level rather than the postcode, teaching over live video with screen sharing so papers, working and drafts are visible to both sides. The slot is held for the term and moves for Ramadan, mocks or travel without changing teacher.

  • Matched on course and level, not on distance
  • Screen-shared past papers, mark schemes and drafts
  • Slot held for the term and movable
  • Free trial lesson before any payment is taken

A diagnostic hour before anything else

One session that looks at a marked script or internal assessment draft and reports which component is losing marks. It costs an hour and it routinely changes what a family buys next, because the answer is often narrower and cheaper than the plan they arrived with.

  • One session, one written output
  • Reads the script rather than discussing the grade
  • Names components, not topics
  • No commitment to weekly lessons

A fixed block with an end date

Six or eight sessions aimed at a named component, with a stated finish. Blocks force a decision about what the hours were for, which open-ended weekly tuition quietly avoids. Most families on this belt who get good value are buying blocks rather than subscriptions.

  • Named target agreed in writing first
  • Fixed number of sessions and an end date
  • Reviewed against the school's own assessments
  • Renewed deliberately rather than by default

Two children, consecutive slots

Siblings in different Diploma years do not share a useful hour, because the courses diverge immediately. Consecutive one-to-one slots on one evening keep the house disturbed once while keeping each lesson specific, and one teacher can hold both where the subjects genuinely overlap.

  • Consecutive slots rather than a shared lesson
  • Separate plans per child
  • One account, two session records
  • Both slots held for the term

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Arabian Ranches

01

What a near-me search actually returns from Arabian Ranches

Open the search from a phone sitting in a villa off Al Qudra Road and look at what comes back. Agency landing pages with the community name inserted. A map pack of tuition centres, most of them in Motor City, Dubai Sports City or Al Barsha. A marketplace listing prices in dollars. Possibly a classified advert from an individual. What does not come back is a list of people who have taught the Diploma, because that is not an entity the search index holds and not a thing proximity predicts.

The honest reading is that the query is a proxy. Nobody actually wants the nearest tutor; they want a good tutor and they are using distance as a filter because it is the only filter available on a phone at nine in the evening. That filter has a hidden cost, and the cost is specific: it removes from consideration every teacher who cannot or will not drive to this community at the hour your child is free, and that is most of the people who can do the job.

What replaces the filter is not a slogan, it is three questions. Which course and level, exactly? What does the last marked piece of work show? And what evening actually exists once the bus has arrived? Answer those and the shortlist builds itself from capability rather than from geography. IB Gram does not run home visits in Dubai; home visits are an India-only service, so the trade is stated plainly here rather than discovered later. You give up the person in the room and you gain the whole pool.

02

The radius test: what each distance band actually contains

It is worth being concrete about the circle, because the intuition most families have about it is wrong. A radius that feels generous on a map is not generous in traffic, and a radius that would genuinely solve the problem is one no tutor will drive. Setting out the bands makes the trade visible instead of leaving it as a vague preference for somebody local.

Read the third column carefully. Inside the community the honest answer is primary support and early secondary homework help, which is a real and useful service. At fifteen kilometres you reach most Standard Level courses and a few Higher Level sciences. At thirty kilometres you are finally in the areas where Diploma teachers work, and you are also asking somebody to spend an hour each way in Dubai's worst traffic window to deliver a sixty-minute lesson. That is why the rate rises and why the booking gets declined.

The last row is the one this page argues for. Removing the radius entirely costs exactly one thing, which is the physical presence, and buys access to every teacher who can take the subject at the hour you need. For a Diploma student working on a screen anyway, with a draft in a shared document and past papers as PDFs, the loss is smaller than it sounds and the gain is the difference between a specialist and whoever was available. One caveat belongs with that, and it is an age caveat rather than a subject one: a nine-year-old who will not settle without an adult beside them is a genuine case for the person in the room, and no amount of arithmetic about pools and radii changes it.

Six ways IB tuition is sold in Dubai, compared on model rather than brand

Every provider in this market compares itself favourably to an unnamed alternative. That is useless to a parent, so the comparison below is between models rather than brands, and the only rates quoted are ones a provider has published about itself. Six models exist here: an online matching service, a specialist agency, an international marketplace, a freelance tutor, a tuition-centre group class, and the support the school already provides after hours.

Three columns decide most purchases and almost nobody publishes them. Whether the permit can be verified, because private tutoring in the UAE runs on a MoHRE private tuition work permit and a parent is entitled to see it. What happens if the match is wrong, because the answer ranges from the teacher being changed on request to starting the search again from nothing. And where the rate came from, because a figure without a source is an advertisement rather than information.

The school's own support deserves a mention it rarely gets on pages like this. It is already paid for, the teacher already knows the student, and in many Dubai schools it is genuinely good. The honest reasons it is not always enough are that it is group-based, that it runs on the school's timetable rather than your child's, and that a teacher cannot supervise their own student's internal assessment and also tutor it privately. Ask what exists before buying anything; it is the cheapest option on the table and the first one to check.

04

What the neighbour's recommendation is actually worth

On a belt of villa communities with active parent groups, most tutors are found by recommendation, and a recommendation carries real information. It tells you the person turns up, is pleasant with teenagers, communicates with parents and does not waste the hour. Those things are genuinely hard to find and genuinely worth knowing, and no profile page conveys them. Take the recommendation seriously on exactly those points.

What it does not transfer is subject fit. The tutor who was excellent with a Year 7 struggling with fractions is being recommended for a different job from the one you have, and the recommender cannot tell the difference because they never saw the harder job attempted. A Diploma parent hiring on a Year 7 recommendation is relying on evidence about punctuality to make a decision about Paper 3 technique. The two are unrelated, and the mismatch usually surfaces in February.

A simple protocol makes recommendations useful. Ask the recommender what year and what course their child was taking. Then ask the tutor one hard question about your course: how uncertainty is handled in a Physics investigation, what the three Economics commentaries require, how Paper 3 in Analysis and Approaches is structured. A specific answer confirms the fit; a general answer about building confidence tells you the recommendation was about something else. Nothing about this is rude, and a good tutor expects it, because the same question is being asked of them in every serious enquiry they receive.

05

Where a strong generalist stops working on a Diploma course

Hiring nearby usually means hiring a generalist, because the local pool is a pool of qualified adults rather than a pool of Diploma teachers. Generalists are not useless; a good one is worth a great deal in the first Diploma year when the problem is often confidence and missing IGCSE foundations. The question is where the generalist runs out, and the answer is component-specific rather than subject-specific, which is why the table below is organised that way.

The pattern across every row is the same. The generalist can do the academic content. What they cannot do is predict what the mark scheme rewards, because that knowledge comes from having marked the component or taught it through a full cycle. A chemist who writes a beautiful mechanism may still not know how much detail the command term deduce expects in that question, and the student loses marks while understanding the chemistry perfectly. That specific failure mode is invisible to a parent until a mock arrives.

The useful consequence is that you can buy both, in sequence. A generalist for foundations in the first year, when content is the problem, and a specialist for the final year, when technique is the problem. That sequencing costs less over two years than a specialist throughout and works better than a generalist throughout, and it is a decision you can only make if somebody has told you the difference exists. The switch point is usually the first internal assessment draft, because that is the first task where the mark depends on criteria rather than on getting the content right, and it arrives earlier in the Diploma than most families expect.

06

Cost per useful hour, which is not the advertised rate

Hourly rates are how this market advertises and they are a poor basis for comparison, because an hour booked is not an hour spent teaching your child the thing they need. Three leaks sit between the two: attention shared with other students, sessions lost because somebody had to drive, and hours spent on content when the problem was technique. Correct for those and the ranking of options changes, sometimes dramatically.

The published figures are the starting point. Tutopiya from AED 33 to 52 an hour and EdFlik from AED 45 to 65 at the homework-help end. Unitors from AED 150 for IGCSE and AED 200 for IB. TutorChase at AED 270. Bestimate's Tutoring Cost Dubai 2026 table at AED 200 to 450 and above for a specialist and AED 180 to 350 for an in-home visit, with independent providers quoting up to AED 500. BartyED at AED 650 for examiner-led work. Monthly, Bestimate estimates AED 240 to 600 at the budget end and AED 1,000 to 2,000 or more for exam-year specialist help.

Now apply the leaks. A group class of six costs little per hour and delivers a fraction of a teacher's attention, so it is cheap per hour and expensive per minute spent on your child's actual gap. An in-home booking out here loses a session now and then to traffic or a cancelled drive, which raises the effective rate by a third. A cheap hour spent revising content when the mock showed a timing problem has an effective cost of infinity, because it bought nothing. Every figure here belongs to the provider named, on the date its own page carried it; IB Gram publishes no rate card on this page and the first lesson is free so the teaching can be judged before any money moves.

Who regulates what, across the seven emirates

Families on this belt move, and they move between emirates more often than between communities. A transfer to Abu Dhabi, Sharjah or Ras Al Khaimah changes the regulator, and the regulator changes what is inspected, who approves fees and curricula, and which professional-ethics rules apply to the teachers your child meets. None of the competitor pages researched for this project names more than one of these bodies, and ADEK appears in none of them.

Dubai sits with the Knowledge and Human Development Authority, which is responsible for enhancing and overseeing the quality of private education in the emirate. Abu Dhabi and Al Ain sit with the Department of Education and Knowledge, which supervises the licensing and accreditation of private schools there, and whose professional-ethics rules prohibit school staff from paid private tutoring of students enrolled at their own school. Sharjah's Private Education Authority and Ras Al Khaimah's Department of Knowledge both regulate private education and approve tuition fees, curricula, programmes, courses, activities and assessment methods. The Ministry of Education supervises private schools in Ajman, Umm Al Quwain and Fujairah.

For a tutoring arrangement the practical consequence is simple and it supports this page's whole argument. A teacher matched online and teaching over video does not change when the family moves emirate; the slot, the teacher and the plan carry over. An in-home arrangement does not survive a move to Abu Dhabi at all. For a household on a Dubai posting that may become an Abu Dhabi posting, that difference is worth more than a short drive, and it is the sort of thing nobody mentions until the move is already happening.

Verifying a tutor you found nearby

If you do hire locally, the checks are short and worth making. Private tutoring in the UAE runs on a permit: the MoHRE private tuition work permit, introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, granted free of charge for two years, with no fee and a stated two-working-day completion time on MoHRE's own service page. Because it costs nothing, there is no financial reason not to hold one. Ask to see it in the tutor's own name and ask when it expires.

Then ask the question most families skip: do you teach at my child's school? The permit's code of conduct bars serving students affiliated with the tutor's own school, and ADEK's professional-ethics rules state the same for Abu Dhabi private and charter school staff. The conflict is obvious once named, because the person coaching the work would also be the person marking it. A teacher from a different school gives you the same subject knowledge without the conflict.

Two more checks are worth a minute each. Ask who will actually teach the lessons, because on marketplaces and at some agencies the person who answers the enquiry is not the person who arrives. And ask what happens if the match is wrong, in writing, before any payment: the honest answers range from a teacher changed on request to nothing at all, and that difference is worth more than twenty dirhams an hour. Nobody should be promising a grade, and anyone offering to produce an internal assessment or an Extended Essay should end the conversation there.

09

What happens when near me has no answer

Sometimes the honest response to the search is that nobody suitable is available, and this is the part of the market that nobody publishes. No competitor page researched for this project discloses a coverage limit or a fallback policy. Several route UAE parents to telephone numbers in other countries without saying where the teaching comes from, which is the same information withheld rather than given.

Our version is plain. Higher Level Physics, Higher Level Economics and Analysis and Approaches at Higher Level are the courses this city is shortest of in an evening slot, and Language B in a less common language can be thinner still. When the right person is not free for the hour you need, the options are a different evening, a short wait for a slot to open, or a specialist outside the UAE whose location and time zone we state before you agree to anything. What we will not do is put a strong generalist in the slot and let the gap appear in a mock script in February.

Scheduling flexes in two directions that matter on this belt. Ramadan shortens the school day and families move an afternoon slot to after Iftar, which an online lesson absorbs without renegotiating a drive. And the long summer empties much of Arabian Ranches, so a student in London, Mumbai or Toronto in July keeps the same teacher and the same slot, time-converted. Both are ordinary requests here. Neither works when the arrangement depends on somebody's car reaching Al Qudra Road.

Where we tutor

The communities a near-me search includes, and what each one actually offers

A radius drawn around Arabian Ranches sweeps through ten communities in roughly the order below. The notes describe what each one contributes to the pool a local search returns, which turns out to be less than the map suggests and is the reason this page argues for dropping the radius entirely.

Arabian Ranches

Inside the circle: the villa clusters, Ranches Souk and JESS Arabian Ranches, which serves primary years. Secondary and Diploma students travel out. Local supply is good for primary support and almost absent for Higher Level courses.

Arabian Ranches 2

Casa, Rosa and Palma. Adds households rather than teachers, which is the pattern across the whole belt. A tutor living here is a tutor who commutes to the same schools everyone else does, usually in the opposite direction at the relevant hour.

Arabian Ranches 3

The newest cluster, furthest from the Al Barsha and Umm Suqeim schools. A five-kilometre radius drawn here contains fewer Diploma-capable teachers than the same radius drawn almost anywhere else in the city.

Dubai Hills Estate

The one community in this comparison where proximity buys something real, because several schools sit inside or beside it. It is also where travelling tutors tend to live, which shows up as lower quoted in-home rates into Dubai Hills than into the outer communities.

Motor City and Dubai Sports City

Apartment communities with tuition centres operating locally. These add group capacity rather than one-to-one specialists, and a group class is a different purchase from a tutor, which the comparison table further down sets out properly.

DAMAC Hills, DAMAC Hills 2 and Remraam

The outer edge of any sensible radius. Travelling tutors frequently decline bookings here or price the return journey into the hour, which makes the effective rate the highest on the belt for the same teaching.

Town Square and Mudon

Townhouse communities with growing numbers of Year 10 and Year 11 students, so demand here is mostly IGCSE rather than Diploma. That changes which subjects are scarce in an evening slot and is worth saying rather than assuming.

The Sustainable City and Al Barari

Adjacent Dubailand communities sharing the same school runs, with Fairgreen International School inside The Sustainable City. Families here face the same arithmetic and reach the same conclusion, which is the point this page keeps arriving at.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in Arabian Ranches

Where the Diploma teachers inside any radius actually work

Schools offering the Diploma within reach of the Dubailand communities. Their staff are the pool a local search is implicitly hunting, and most of them cannot privately tutor their own students. Students we support attend schools in this group; nothing more is implied by naming them.

  • GEMS International School - Al Khail
  • North London Collegiate School Dubai
  • GEMS World Academy - Dubai
  • Raffles World Academy
  • Fairgreen International School
  • Nord Anglia International School Dubai

The schools inside the radius itself

What a five-kilometre circle around Arabian Ranches genuinely contains. Strong primary and all-through provision, and very little Diploma teaching, which is the asymmetry the rest of this page is built on. Licensed curricula are published by KHDA and change between years.

  • JESS Arabian Ranches
  • Ranches Primary School
  • GEMS FirstPoint School - The Villa
  • Victory Heights Primary School
  • Bradenton Preparatory Academy
  • GEMS Metropole School - Motor City

Schools are named to describe the local education context around Arabian Ranches. IB Gram has no affiliation with, and no endorsement from, any school listed on this page.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Say the course and the level before anything else

Higher Level Physics and Standard Level Physics are different staffing problems, and the level decides how much scheduling flexibility exists. Naming it first saves a round of messages and stops a shortlist forming around people who cannot take the course once the real requirement appears.

  2. 02

Send a marked script, not a description

The last marked assessment or internal assessment draft shows which component is losing marks, which is almost never the component a parent would have named. Two minutes with a script beats twenty minutes on a call, and it is the difference between a plan and a quotation.

  3. 03

Use the diagnostic hour before buying a block

One session that reads the work and reports what is wrong frequently changes the purchase. The result is often narrower and cheaper than the plan a family arrives with, and occasionally it is wider, which is worth knowing in November rather than in March.

  4. 04

Take the free trial lesson on its own terms

One lesson at no charge, booked before any payment and with no card details taken first. It runs as a working session with written feedback afterwards. Judge it on whether your child can now do something they could not do an hour earlier, not on how friendly the call felt.

  5. 05

Agree the replacement policy in writing

Before money moves, get the answer to one question: what happens if the match is wrong? Ours is that the teacher changes on request. Asking it of every provider you are considering will separate them faster than any comparison of hourly rates, including the table on this page.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

Matched on the course, not on the map

The pool of people who can teach a Higher Level science in an evening slot is small and lives near the schools that employ them. Removing the radius is the only move that widens your choice, and it costs exactly one thing, which is stated on this page rather than hidden.

Models compared, brands left alone

The comparison here is between an online match, an agency, a marketplace, a freelance tutor, a centre class and the school's own support, using rates each provider published about itself. Comparing against an unnamed straw man is the industry habit and it tells a parent nothing.

Cost per useful hour, shown with its arithmetic

Shared attention, lost drives and misdirected hours all sit between a booked hour and a useful one. The table on this page does that arithmetic in dirhams. No ranking page researched for this project cites a source for a single AED figure, let alone adjusts one.

The permit question answered properly

Private tutoring in the UAE runs on a MoHRE permit that is free and valid for two years, and a parent is entitled to see it. We also say which question matters more: whether the tutor teaches at your child's own school, which the permit's code of conduct prohibits.

Coverage limits and the move between emirates

Where a course is thin, this page says so and sets out what is offered instead. And because the teaching is delivered over video, a family transferring from Dubai to Abu Dhabi or Sharjah keeps the teacher, the slot and the plan rather than starting again.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Arabian Ranches: your questions answered

What does a near-me search for an IB tutor actually return in Arabian Ranches?+

Agency landing pages with the community name inserted, a map pack of tuition centres mostly in Motor City, Dubai Sports City or Al Barsha, a marketplace quoting US dollars, and sometimes a classified advert. What it does not return is a list of people who have taught the Diploma, because that is not something proximity predicts and not an entity the index holds. The search is doing its job; it is answering a radius question. The question you have is which teacher knows your child's course, and distance has no bearing on it.

How far would a tutor realistically travel to Arabian Ranches?+

Indicatively, a travelling tutor based near the Al Barsha, Dubai Hills or Umm Suqeim schools reaches Arabian Ranches in twenty-five to forty minutes at four in the afternoon, which turns a sixty-minute lesson into a two-hour commitment and limits them to one booking that evening. Further out, into DAMAC Hills 2 or Remraam, the journey often runs to an hour and bookings get declined or priced to cover the return trip. That is why in-home quotes rise with distance and why the pool shrinks as the radius grows.

Is an agency, a marketplace or a freelance tutor better value in Dubai?+

They fail differently, which matters more than the price. A specialist agency publishes rates around AED 200 to 450 and above and usually offers some replacement policy, often only after a term. An international marketplace frequently quotes US dollars and rarely surfaces the tutor's permit to the parent. A freelance tutor can be excellent and cheap, with rates from AED 45 to 500 depending on level, and offers no fallback at all if the match is wrong. Ask all three the same two questions: can I see the permit, and what happens if this does not work.

A neighbour recommended a tutor. Is that a good enough reason to book?+

It is good evidence about reliability, manner and communication, which are genuinely hard to judge from a profile and worth a lot. It is not evidence about subject fit, because the recommendation almost certainly came from a different year group and a different course. Ask the recommender what year and subject their child was taking, then ask the tutor one hard question about your own course. A specific answer confirms the fit; a general answer about building confidence tells you the recommendation was about something else entirely.

How do I work out the real cost per useful hour of a tutoring session?+

Start with the published rate, then subtract the leaks. Divide by your child's share of the teacher's attention, so a group of six costs roughly six times its headline rate per minute spent on their actual gap. Add the sessions lost to traffic or a cancelled drive, which out here raises an in-home rate by around a third over a month. Then ask whether the hour is spent on the component that is losing marks. A cheap hour aimed at the wrong component has an effective cost of everything, because it buys nothing at all.

Can a strong graduate teach Higher Level Chemistry, or does it need a specialist?+

A strong graduate can teach the chemistry. What they usually cannot do is predict what the mark scheme rewards, because that comes from having marked the component or taught a full cycle. The classic failure is a beautifully drawn mechanism answered at the wrong level of detail for the command term, so the student understands the chemistry and still loses the marks. In the first Diploma year a generalist is often fine and cheaper. In the final year, on a Higher Level science, the technique is the problem and a specialist is the answer.

Who regulates private schools in each emirate of the UAE?+

Five bodies cover the country. Dubai has the Knowledge and Human Development Authority, responsible for enhancing and overseeing the quality of private education in the emirate. Abu Dhabi and Al Ain have the Department of Education and Knowledge, which supervises licensing and accreditation. Sharjah has the Sharjah Private Education Authority and Ras Al Khaimah the Department of Knowledge, and both approve fees, curricula, programmes and assessment methods as well as regulating. The Ministry of Education supervises private schools in Ajman, Umm Al Quwain and Fujairah. All five appear on the u.ae private schools page.

We may move to Abu Dhabi next year. Does the tutoring arrangement survive that?+

Yes, completely, which is one of the less obvious arguments for teaching over video. The teacher, the slot and the plan carry over to a new emirate without interruption, because nothing in the arrangement depends on an address. An in-home arrangement does not survive the move at all: you start the search again in a new city, with a new regulator, in the middle of a Diploma year. For families on postings that move within the UAE, that continuity is worth more than the convenience of somebody living nearby.

What replacement policy should I expect if the tutor is not right?+

Ask for it in writing before paying anything, because the honest answers vary enormously. A freelance tutor offers nothing; you simply start again. Agencies often change a tutor, sometimes only after a term has been paid for. Marketplaces generally leave you to rebook yourself. Our position is that the teacher changes on request, and the reason the question matters is that first matches fail for ordinary reasons: pace, manner, or a student who needed a different component addressed. A provider who cannot answer this plainly is telling you something.

Should I pay more per hour for an examiner-led tutor?+

Occasionally, and for a narrow purpose. Published examiner-led rates reach AED 650 an hour, and the honest use for that money is two or three sessions on one stubborn component rather than a weekly arrangement. Two cautions. Current examiner status is hard for a parent to verify and should never be used to imply access to marking, grade boundaries or paper content. And a rate at that level buys experience of a component, not an outcome, since nobody can promise a grade in any subject at any price.

Is a tuition centre in Motor City a better option than a one-to-one tutor?+

For covering content across a shared syllabus, often yes: the price per student is lower and a well-run group moves faster than a student working alone. For a specific weakness, an internal assessment or a timing problem, no, because the hour belongs to the group and your child's particular gap may never be reached. Count the drive each way as part of the cost. A centre operating with premises and staff needs a KHDA Educational Services Permit for a training institute, which is a fair thing to ask to see before enrolling.

How quickly can a first IB lesson be arranged from Arabian Ranches?+

For Standard Level sciences, Business Management and most languages, often within the same week. For Higher Level Physics, Higher Level Economics or Analysis and Approaches at Higher Level in an evening slot, usually several days, because those are the courses this city is shortest of. We give a match time rather than a promise of availability, and if the slot you want cannot be filled we say so with the alternatives rather than holding the enquiry open while you wait.

Does the school's own after-hours support make a private tutor unnecessary?+

Sometimes, and it is the first thing to check because it is already paid for and the teacher already knows your child. The honest limits are that it is usually group-based, that it runs on the school's timetable rather than your child's, and that a teacher supervising an internal assessment cannot also tutor it privately. Ask what is actually offered, for which subjects, and on which days. If it covers the gap, buy nothing. If it covers content but not technique, that tells you exactly what to buy.

What should I send when asking three providers for a quote?+

Four things, and the same four to each of them. The course and whether it is Higher or Standard Level. The school, so the timetable and assessment calendar are known. The last marked assessment or internal assessment draft, which is the single most informative item. And the evening window that genuinely exists once the bus has arrived. Then ask each provider the same three questions: who will teach, can I see the permit, and what happens if the match is wrong. The replies will separate them faster than the rates will.

How do I know the tutor is actually the person who will teach my child?+

Ask directly, and ask before paying. On some marketplaces and at some agencies the person answering the enquiry is a coordinator, and the teacher is assigned afterwards from whoever is free. That is not dishonest in itself, but it means the profile you read may not be the person who arrives. The practical test is to insist the teacher runs the trial lesson. If a provider cannot name the teacher before the first session, you are buying a process rather than a person.

What if there is genuinely nobody available for the subject we need?+

You get told, with the real options rather than a holding reply. Those are a different evening, a short wait for a slot to open, or a specialist outside the UAE whose location and time zone we state before you agree to anything. Higher Level Physics, Higher Level Economics and Analysis and Approaches at Higher Level are the thinnest, and a less common Language B thinner still. No competitor page researched for this project discloses a coverage limit at all, which is why this answer exists in writing here.

Drop the radius, keep the standard

A near-me search is a reasonable way to start and a poor way to decide. The circle around Arabian Ranches contains households, a souk and a primary school; the teachers who can take a Higher Level course work near the schools that employ them and mostly cannot tutor their own students. Send the course, the level, the school and the evening that exists once the bus has arrived, along with the last marked piece of work, and we will tell you who is genuinely free. The trial lesson is free on a stated condition: one session, before any payment, with written feedback afterwards. Lessons run live online on Gulf Standard Time.
