IB Physics Tutor in Arabian Ranches

Parents searching for an IB physics tutor in Arabian Ranches usually begin by asking who lives nearby. It is the wrong opening question. The limit on a Diploma physics grade is not the drive from Mirador or Saheel to your door; it is whether the person teaching your child has worked Paper 2 extended-response answers against the 2023 subject guide. IB Gram supplies that person live online, one-to-one, on Gulf Standard Time, and this page sets Arabian Ranches beside every community around it to show how little the postcode changes the answer.

IB & IGCSE in Arabian Ranches

Why the nearest physics tutor is rarely the right physics tutor

Arabian Ranches sits off Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Road with the golf club on one side and Al Qudra Road on the other, and the family searching from Alvorada, Hattan, Palmera or Terra Nova almost always types the same thing: a physics tutor, near me. The instinct is sound. The reasoning behind it is not. Physics at Diploma level is one of the narrowest teaching specialisms in the UAE market. The number of people in Dubai who can take a student through electromagnetic induction sign conventions, then switch to uncertainty propagation on a gradient, then mark an extended-response answer the way an examiner reads it, is small. Filtering that already small group by whether they live fifteen minutes away removes most of it.

That is the comparison this page makes, community by community. Arabian Ranches, Arabian Ranches 2, Arabian Ranches 3, Mudon, Remraam, Town Square, Motor City, Dubai Sports City, DAMAC Hills and Dubai Hills Estate are all within a short drive of each other across the Dubailand belt. They feed overlapping school rosters, they finish the school day within the same half-hour window, and they face the same evening traffic on Sheikh Zayed bin Hamdan Al Nahyan Street. A parent in Saheel and a parent in Lila are solving an identical problem, and the honest answer for both is the same.

The schools make this clearer. JESS Arabian Ranches runs the English National Curriculum through IGCSE and then the IB Diploma, so a Ranches family can reach DP Physics without leaving the community. Families a few minutes away reach the Diploma through Fairgreen International School in The Sustainable City, Emirates International School Meadows, GEMS International School Al Khail in Dubai Hills Estate or Dubai International Academy Emirates Hills. Jebel Ali School in DAMAC Hills and GEMS Metropole School in Motor City take the A Level route instead. Four different campuses, four different timetables, one shared shortage: physics teachers with spare capacity in term time.

KHDA inspects every one of those schools annually on a six-band scale running from Outstanding down to Very Weak, and publishes the reports. Dubai's private sector carried 387,441 pupils across 227 schools in 2024-25, offering seventeen curricula, with the International Baccalaureate accounting for roughly 7 per cent of that enrolment. That last figure is the one that matters here. IB Physics is a minority course inside a minority curriculum, which is precisely why geography is a poor filter and syllabus fluency is a good one.

IB Gram answers the search honestly. We do not send a tutor to a villa in Arabian Ranches or anywhere else in the UAE; home visits are a service we run only in India. What a Ranches family gets instead is a physics specialist matched to Higher or Standard Level and to the themes your child is behind on, teaching live over video with a shared whiteboard and the past-paper question open on screen. Nothing is driven anywhere, nothing is lost to the Umm Suqeim Road queue at six in the evening, and the pool the tutor is drawn from is the whole pool rather than the residents of three adjoining communities.

IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Arabian Ranches children reach IB Physics by more than one route. Some arrive through JESS at Year 12 after IGCSE, some transfer in from an MYP school in Dubai Hills or The Sustainable City, and a few come from an American campus after AP Physics. The programme notes below describe what each route means for physics specifically.

DPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13 · DP1 and DP2

Diploma Programme Physics

Physics in the Diploma is built on five themes: space, time and motion; the particulate nature of matter; wave behaviour; fields; and nuclear and quantum physics. Standard Level runs to 150 taught hours, Higher Level to 240, and the extra ninety hours are where the mathematics thickens. Assessment is Paper 1 at 36 per cent, Paper 2 at 44 per cent and the scientific investigation at 20 per cent. There is no Paper 3 on the current guide.

A Ranches student usually meets DP Physics at JESS Arabian Ranches, inside the community, or at an IB continuum school a short drive away. The practical work and the laboratory sit with the school; a tutor works on the theory, the question technique and the write-up. KHDA publishes the inspection report for each of those campuses, which is the document to read before judging a physics department.

MYPAges 11-16 · MYP 1 to MYP 5

Middle Years Programme Sciences

MYP Sciences is assessed against four criteria, each out of eight: knowing and understanding, inquiring and designing, processing and evaluating, and reflecting on the impacts of science. Physics content appears inside integrated science units rather than as a standalone subject until the final years. A student who has never written a controlled-variables table will feel the gap immediately in DP1.

Families around Arabian Ranches reach the MYP through Fairgreen International School, Emirates International School Meadows, GEMS International School Al Khail and Dubai International Academy Emirates Hills. MYP 4 and MYP 5 science work is the best preparation available for the Diploma investigation, and it is also where a tutor can close a gap cheaply, before DP1 makes it expensive.

IGCSEAges 14-16 · Years 10-11

IGCSE Physics before the Diploma

Most Ranches students meet physics first as Cambridge IGCSE Physics 0625 or Pearson Edexcel International GCSE Physics 4PH1. Cambridge splits into Core and Extended tiers with separate theory papers; Edexcel runs a single tier across two papers. Both stop well short of calculus, which is why the step into DP Physics feels steeper than the step into DP Biology.

JESS Arabian Ranches, Jebel Ali School in DAMAC Hills, GEMS Metropole School in Motor City and South View School in the Remraam direction all run IGCSE physics before their sixth-form routes diverge. A Ranches parent choosing between DP Physics and A Level Physics at Year 11 is really choosing between a themed five-strand course with an investigation and a linear two-year course with practical endorsements.

CPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

Career-related Programme science components

The Career-related Programme pairs two or more DP courses with a career-related study, so a student may take DP Physics SL alongside an applied qualification. The physics content and the assessment are identical to the Diploma version; the workload around it differs, which changes how many hours of support make sense each week.

The CP is far less common in Dubai than the full Diploma, and no campus inside Arabian Ranches offers it, so families exploring it are usually looking across the city. The physics teaching requirement does not change: the same five themes, the same Paper 1 and Paper 2, the same 24-mark investigation.

Subject coverage

IB subjects we tutor

Physics is the headline here, but a DP physics student rarely needs physics alone. The combinations below are the ones Ranches families ask about most often, with a note on what each one actually assesses and where the marks tend to go.

Physics HL

Higher Level, 240 hours

Themes A to E at full depth, with Paper 1 running two hours across multiple choice and data analysis, and Paper 2 running two hours thirty. The HL-only material in fields and in nuclear and quantum physics is where most of the extra difficulty lives, along with the expectation that algebra is rearranged without prompting.

Physics SL

Standard Level, 150 hours

The same five themes at reduced depth, with Paper 1 and Paper 2 each running one hour thirty. SL students lose marks less often on the mathematics and more often on explanation questions, where a correct idea is written in the wrong number of steps for the mark allocation.

Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches

HL and SL

The natural partner to Physics HL. Calculus fluency makes kinematics, simple harmonic motion and induction readable rather than mysterious. Students who take AA SL alongside Physics HL cope; students taking Applications and Interpretation alongside Physics HL usually need the algebra taught twice.

Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation

HL and SL

Statistics-heavy and modelling-led, which suits the data-analysis half of Paper 1B well and the derivation-heavy parts of Paper 2 poorly. A Ranches student on AI who is set on an engineering degree should check the admissions requirement of each named university before Year 12 locks in.

Chemistry HL and SL

HL and SL

The second science in most Ranches science combinations. Chemistry and physics share the same assessment architecture on the 2023 guides, so a student who learns to read command terms properly in one course carries the skill straight into the other, and the two investigations can be planned in the same term.

Biology HL and SL

HL and SL

Often chosen as the third science for medicine applications. Biology rewards precision of vocabulary where physics rewards precision of reasoning, and students who are strong in one are frequently caught out by the other. Statistical tests in Biology overlap with the uncertainty work in Physics 1B.

Computer Science HL and SL

HL and SL

Picked by Ranches students heading towards engineering or software. The internal assessment is a developed solution rather than a laboratory investigation, so a student taking Computer Science and Physics together carries two very different coursework formats in the same academic year.

Design Technology HL and SL

HL and SL

Shares the physics of materials, structures and energy, and leans on the same measurement discipline. Students combining Design Technology with Physics HL get genuine overlap in the mechanics content and almost none in the assessment style, which is worth planning for early.

Theory of Knowledge

Core, all DP students

The TOK exhibition and essay sit outside subject teaching but consume DP1 and DP2 time in ways that collide with physics deadlines. A tutor can help a student think about scientific knowledge claims clearly; a tutor does not write the essay or the exhibition commentary.

Extended Essay in Physics

Core, 4,000 words

A physics Extended Essay needs a research question narrow enough to be answered with equipment a Dubai school actually owns. Supervision stays with the school supervisor. Tutoring is confined to teaching the underlying physics, discussing method, and giving feedback on the student's own drafts.

IGCSE coverage

IGCSE subjects we tutor

Several Arabian Ranches students arrive at this page a year early, looking for physics support in Year 10 or Year 11 before the Diploma starts. These are the IGCSE physics routes the local schools actually run.

Cambridge IGCSE Physics 0625

Core and Extended

Core candidates sit Paper 1 multiple choice and Paper 3 theory; Extended candidates sit Paper 2 and Paper 4. Both tiers then sit either Paper 5, the practical test, or Paper 6, the alternative to practical. Grades 9 to 1 are available on Extended only, which is the decision Year 10 parents ask about most.

Pearson Edexcel International GCSE Physics 4PH1

Single tier

Two papers, untiered. Paper 1 is the longer of the two and carries the larger share of the marks; Paper 2 covers the remaining content in a shorter sitting. There is no practical paper, with experimental skills assessed inside the written questions instead.

Cambridge IGCSE Co-ordinated Sciences 0654

Double award

Biology, chemistry and physics taught together for two IGCSE grades rather than three. The physics content is thinner than 0625, which matters for a student who intends to take Physics HL: the gap into DP1 is wider from 0654 than from the separate syllabus.

Pearson Edexcel International GCSE Double Award Science 4SD0

Double award

Three biology, chemistry and physics papers at a reduced content load, awarding two grades. Common in Dubai schools that want all students to carry science to 16 without filling the timetable with three separate subjects.

Cambridge IGCSE Additional Mathematics

Extended only

Taken by a minority of Year 11 students and the single best preparation for Physics HL available at IGCSE level. It introduces differentiation and integration early, which removes most of the pain from DP kinematics and simple harmonic motion.

Cambridge IGCSE Mathematics 0580

Core and Extended

The standard mathematics route in British-curriculum Dubai schools. Extended tier is effectively a prerequisite for Physics HL in practice, because the graph work and the algebraic rearrangement in Paper 4 are the floor DP Physics builds on.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three ways a Ranches family actually buys physics support, described by what each one costs in time as well as money. All IB Gram lessons in this list run live over video; the in-home column exists because it is what the local market sells, not because we sell it.

Weekly one-to-one, live online

A fixed slot with the same tutor each week, usually sixty or ninety minutes, booked in Gulf Standard Time. The tutor keeps a running record of which themes are secure and which are not, and the session opens with the question your child got wrong last time rather than with a greeting.

  • Same tutor every week, so the diagnosis carries forward
  • Shared whiteboard with the past-paper question on screen
  • Recording available for revision where the tutor agrees
  • No travel time on either side of the lesson

Intensive block before a mock or the May session

Two or three sessions a week for a defined number of weeks, aimed at a specific paper. Physics blocks are usually built backwards from the mock timetable: data analysis first because it is the most trainable, then the two weakest themes, then timed Paper 2 practice under exam conditions.

  • Built around the school's own mock dates
  • Timed Paper 1B and Paper 2 practice with feedback
  • Theme-by-theme gap list reviewed at the halfway point
  • Ends when the block ends, with no rolling commitment

Investigation and Extended Essay support, within IB rules

Teaching on the physics behind a research question, discussion of experimental design, and feedback on the student's own written drafts. The work stays the student's, the school supervisor remains the supervisor, and nothing is drafted, rewritten or completed on the student's behalf at any stage.

  • Criteria A to D explained with their mark allocations
  • Uncertainty treatment and graphing taught, not done for them
  • Feedback on drafts the student has written
  • A written record of what was discussed, for the school if asked

Two subjects, one schedule

Many Ranches students need physics and mathematics, or physics and chemistry, in the same term. Running both through one platform keeps the two tutors aware of each other's deadlines, which matters most in DP1 when three internal assessments land inside the same six weeks.

  • Separate specialists, one shared calendar
  • Deadline clashes flagged before they become a crisis
  • One point of contact for both subjects
  • Slots arranged so no evening carries two sessions

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Arabian Ranches

01

What an Arabian Ranches parent is actually comparing

  • Teaching quality: narrowed sharply by a distance filter
  • Timing: set by the school run, not by the tutor's postcode
  • Cost: driven hardest by travel, not by qualification
  • Continuity: a tutor who moves house does not change your schedule

The search phrase says location, but the decision underneath it is about three things: who teaches your child, when the lesson can happen, and what it costs. Location only matters because it changes the other three. So the honest way to answer a search for an IB physics tutor in Arabian Ranches is to work out, community by community, how much each of those three actually moves when you cross from Saheel to Lila to Mudon to Town Square.

The answer on teaching quality is that location moves it a great deal, in the wrong direction. Restricting the search to tutors who can be at a Ranches villa by five o'clock removes almost everyone who teaches DP Physics for a living. Restricting it to people who can open a video call at five o'clock removes nobody. That is not a marketing claim; it is arithmetic about the size of the physics teaching population in one emirate.

The answer on timing is that location matters less than the school roster. A JESS student living in Alvorada and a Fairgreen student living in Mudon both finish the academic day inside a predictable window, but the Mudon child spends part of the evening on the road. The answer on cost is the most surprising of the three, and the rate table further down this page shows why: the biggest single variable in a Dubai tutoring quote is not the tutor's qualification. It is whether a car is involved.

02

Arabian Ranches against the communities next door

This is the comparison in one table. Each row is one community in the Dubailand belt, with the campus its Diploma students realistically attend, what the evening trip does to the start of a session, and how many physics specialists a distance-based search would turn up inside it. The last column is the point of the whole exercise: in every row, the number is small, and in several rows it is zero.

Drive times are indicative rather than measured, and they swing with the hour. The approach roads matter more than the kilometres. Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Road and Al Khail Road absorb the Dubai Hills and Al Barsha traffic badly between five and seven; Sheikh Zayed bin Hamdan Al Nahyan Street moves the Mudon and Town Square traffic more freely. A parent planning a weekly slot should build it around the worst evening of the week rather than the best.

Read the table and the conclusion arrives on its own. The communities differ in commute, in campus and in how new the housing is. They do not differ in the thing that decides a physics grade. Every family in the belt is drawing from the same thin local supply of Diploma physics teaching, and every one of them gets a wider choice the moment distance stops being a criterion.

There is one further column a parent should add mentally, which is stability. A tutor hired because they live nearby is a tutor whose availability depends on them continuing to live nearby. Villa leases in the Ranches belt turn over, families relocate between Dubailand and Al Barsha, and a teaching job moves across the city. A weekly slot that survives a change of address is worth more over two years of the Diploma than a slightly shorter drive in the first term, and that is the quiet argument for a delivery model in which nobody has to drive at all.

IB Physics on the 2023 guide: what each paper is worth

Physics in the Diploma was restructured for first assessment in 2025, and a surprising number of parents are still working from the previous shape. The option topics are gone. Paper 3 is gone. The content is organised as five themes, A to E, and the assessment is three components rather than four. Any tutor still talking about Paper 3 options is working from a guide that no longer applies to your child's examination.

Paper 1 is now split into two parts sat together. Paper 1A is multiple choice; Paper 1B is a set of data-based and experimental questions drawing on the inquiry and tools skills taught across the course. Paper 2 is short-answer and extended-response. The scientific investigation, written up individually, completes the grade. Higher Level sits longer papers across the same structure rather than extra components.

The weightings below are the ones to plan revision against. Notice that Paper 2 carries more of the grade than Paper 1 at both levels, and that the investigation carries a fifth of everything before a single examination is sat. A DP1 student who treats the investigation as homework has already made the grade harder to reach than it needed to be, and no amount of revision in DP2 recovers that fifth.

Two further features of the current guide change how a Ranches student should prepare. The tools and inquiry strands, covering experimental technique, technology and mathematics, are taught across the whole course rather than as a separate unit, and they are examined inside Paper 1B rather than anywhere obvious. The collaborative sciences project takes roughly ten hours of DP1 and carries no marks of its own, which means it is easy to leave late and expensive to leave late. A tutor working on the current structure plans around both; a tutor working from the previous guide will plan a revision schedule with a component in it that your child will never sit.

Where Arabian Ranches physics students actually lose marks

  • Gradient and area on motion graphs, resolved by unit analysis
  • Percentage uncertainty, combination, and gradient uncertainty from max-min lines
  • Sign and direction conventions in fields, induction and circular motion
  • Command-term structure: one linked step per mark on explanation questions
  • Timed Paper 2 practice started early rather than in the final term

Across the Dubailand belt the same five problems come up again and again, and none of them is about intelligence. The first is the gradient-versus-area confusion on motion graphs. A student reads a velocity-time graph, knows the words, and still takes the area when the question wants the gradient. The fix is mechanical: label both axes with their units, multiply the units together for the area and divide them for the gradient, and read what comes out.

The second is uncertainty. Paper 1B rewards a student who can convert an absolute uncertainty into a percentage, combine percentages correctly through a multiplication, and draw a maximum and minimum gradient to get an uncertainty on a slope. Most Ranches students have been taught this once and never drilled on it. It is the single most trainable set of marks in the whole course, and it is the first thing a sensible block of tutoring attacks.

The third is direction. Fields, induction and circular motion all depend on sign conventions and on knowing which way a force or a current actually points, and a student who has memorised a rule without understanding it loses the mark every time the geometry is unfamiliar. The fourth is the command term: describe, explain, deduce and determine demand different structures, and a three-mark explanation needs three linked steps, not one good sentence. The fifth is simply arithmetic under pressure, which is why timed practice belongs in the schedule from the start of DP2 rather than from March.

05

What physics tuition costs across the Dubailand belt

Start with what the travel premium buys, because it is the clearest way to read a Dubai tutoring quote. Bestimate's Tutoring Cost Dubai 2026 rate table puts in-home one-to-one visits at AED 180 to 350 an hour, with independent home tutors quoting AED 200 to 500. The same research puts qualified online subject tutors at AED 150 to 300, and EdFlik advertises online sessions from AED 45 to 65 while Tutopiya lists from AED 33 to 52. The difference between the online band and the in-home band is not teaching. It is a car, a driver, and forty minutes of someone's evening.

For a specialist subject the bands shift upwards rather than apart. TutorChase publishes AED 270 an hour, Unitors quotes IGCSE from AED 150 and IB from AED 200, and Bestimate puts IB, IGCSE and A Level specialists at AED 200 to 450 and above, with BartyED's examiner-led tier at AED 650. Monthly packages seen in the market run around AED 799 for eight online sessions and AED 1,599 to 1,799 for four two-hour in-home sessions. Bestimate's monthly estimates for a weekly one-hour session are AED 240 to 600 at the budget end, AED 600 to 1,200 in the middle and AED 1,000 to 2,000 or more for specialist exam-year support.

Those are market figures with the source named, not IB Gram prices, and they were published by the companies and the research service that charge them. What they tell a Ranches parent is simple. Two families can pay the same AED 300 an hour and buy very different things: one buys a physics specialist for sixty minutes, the other buys a generalist for forty minutes plus a drive from Al Barsha. Set against Dubai school fees the context matters too, because KHDA confirmed in May 2026 that private school fees in the emirate would not rise for 2026-27 under the second economic incentives package. Tutoring is the part of the education budget still moving.

Online lessons against a tutor who drives out to the Ranches

A fair comparison needs the in-home option described properly rather than dismissed. A tutor who comes to the house removes the need for a parent to supervise a screen, works with the student's own textbooks on the table, and reads body language that a video call flattens. For a nine-year-old those advantages are real. For a Diploma physics student they weigh far less, because the material is written, the working is shared on screen anyway, and the student is old enough to run their own session.

Against that sits the cost of distance. The local in-home market quotes AED 180 to 500 an hour because the tutor is paid for the drive as well as the lesson. In practice a tutor serving Arabian Ranches can fit two or three evening visits into the belt, which is why the available pool shrinks to people who already live in Dubailand, Motor City or Dubai Hills Estate. The specialist you want for Physics HL may live in Mirdif, or may not live in the UAE at all.

IB Gram does not make home visits in Dubai. That restriction is the whole basis of the comparison in the table below, and it is stated plainly rather than hidden: home tutoring at the door is a service we run only in India, and for UAE families every lesson is delivered live over video. What a Ranches family gains in exchange is the specialist rather than the neighbour, a slot that does not depend on traffic, and a rate that is not carrying a car.

The May session counted backwards from a DP2 physics mock

Dubai IB schools sit the May session, and the useful way to plan is backwards from it rather than forwards from today. The IB publishes its own examination schedule and results dates, and those should be read on ibo.org or confirmed with your school's Diploma coordinator rather than taken from a tutoring page; dates move, and a wrong date on a revision plan is worse than no date. What does not move is the order of events, and the order is what a family can plan against.

For the British board sitting at 16, the published dates make the same point concretely. Cambridge examines International GCSE, O Level and International A Level in a June series and a November series here, and allocates every centre to one of six administrative zones, so which timetable version a family reads matters as much as the date on it. Counting a June sitting backwards is the useful exercise: the papers fall in the first half of June, forecast grades go in before them, and the final entry closed in the spring, several months earlier, on a date the centre prints on the statement of entry. Entries close months before the first paper, not weeks. Pearson Edexcel runs International GCSE in May/June and November, with the November 2026 timetable finishing on 19 November 2026; June 2026 results reached centres on 19 August and students on 20 August 2026.

Cambridge also allocates every centre to one of six administrative zones and warns that the correct zone timetable must be used, because it cannot accept responsibility for a candidate who misses an examination after working from the wrong version. For a Ranches family that is a five-minute check with the school examinations officer. The backwards plan below is the one a DP2 physics student should be working to, counted from the mock rather than from the real paper, because the mock is the deadline that actually changes behaviour.

What a physics tutor may and may not do with the investigation

  • Criteria A to D explained with their six-mark allocations
  • Uncertainty propagation and linearisation taught as skills
  • Feedback given on drafts the student has written themselves
  • No drafting, no rewriting, no supplied research questions, no supplied data
  • The school supervisor stays the supervisor throughout

The scientific investigation is a fifth of the physics grade and it is the place where good intentions cause real damage. The report is the student's own work, assessed against four criteria at six marks each: research design, data analysis, conclusion and evaluation. Twenty-four marks in total, with a limit of 3,000 words. A tutor who understands those criteria can be extremely useful. A tutor who touches the text crosses a line that the IB treats as malpractice, and the consequence falls on the student.

What is legitimate is teaching. A tutor can explain what a controlled variable is and why the examiner wants to see it justified. A tutor can show how to propagate an uncertainty through a calculation, how to decide whether a relationship should be linearised, and what an evaluation that scores well actually contains. A tutor can read a draft the student has written and say that the conclusion does not follow from the data. All of that is feedback on the student's work, which is exactly what a school supervisor also provides.

What is not legitimate is writing, rewriting, editing to completion, supplying a research question to be adopted wholesale, or producing data. IB Gram does not do any of those things, and a tutor who offers to is a risk to your child rather than a shortcut. The market contains providers selling finished Internal Assessments outright; one of them lists a price for the service. Treat that as the warning it is. The same boundary applies to the Extended Essay and to the Theory of Knowledge essay, where the school supervisor remains in charge throughout.

KHDA, MoHRE and checking a physics tutor is allowed to teach

Private tutoring in the UAE is permitted and regulated. The route is a MoHRE private tuition work permit, introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, granted free of charge for two years. Eligible applicants include teachers registered in government or private schools, employees in the government and private sectors, unemployed individuals, school students aged 15 to 18 and university students. MoHRE's own service page is titled Issuance of a New Work Permit - Private Tutor Licensing, lists no fee, states a two-working-day completion time, and is applied for through the MoHRE smart app, website and e-services system.

Anyone offering private tutoring without that permit is subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws. No fine schedule has been published, so no figure should be quoted at you by anyone, including us. For a Ranches parent the practical step is to ask a prospective tutor whether they hold a current private tuition work permit, and to treat a vague answer as an answer. Abu Dhabi adds a further rule worth knowing even in Dubai: ADEK's professional-ethics rules bar private and charter school staff from paid tutoring of students enrolled at their own school, and the permit carries a code of conduct to the same effect.

The schools themselves sit under different authorities depending on the emirate. KHDA is responsible for enhancing and overseeing the quality of private education in Dubai, which covers every campus named on this page. ADEK supervises the licensing and accreditation of private schools in Abu Dhabi, the Sharjah Private Education Authority regulates private education in Sharjah, the Department of Knowledge does so in Ras Al Khaimah, and the Ministry of Education supervises private schools in Ajman, Umm Al Quwain and Fujairah. IB Gram holds no permit, licence or accreditation from any of them, and does not claim one; a tutoring operation with premises and staff in Dubai would need a KHDA Educational Services Permit, which is a different thing entirely.

Arabian Ranches and the communities around it

This page compares rather than lists. Each community below is described by the thing that actually affects a physics session: which campus the children travel to, how long the trip takes in the evening, and what that leaves of a weekday.

Arabian Ranches

The original Emaar community, split across Alvorada, Mirador, Saheel, Al Reem, Savannah, Palmera, Terra Nova, Hattan and La Avenida. JESS Arabian Ranches sits inside it and runs through to Year 13, so a Diploma student here can have the shortest school commute in the Dubailand belt.

Arabian Ranches 2

Palma, Rosa, Lila, Yasmin, Camelia, Casa and Reem, with Ranches Primary School inside the community for the younger years. Secondary and Diploma students travel out, which pushes the realistic start of an evening session later than it is one community over.

Arabian Ranches 3

The newest phase, with Sun, Joy, Bliss, Ruba, Caya and Spring handing over through 2026. No secondary campus inside the community yet, so every Diploma student commutes, usually towards Dubai Hills Estate, The Sustainable City or back into Arabian Ranches itself.

Mudon

Directly along Sheikh Zayed bin Hamdan Al Nahyan Street from the Ranches. Families here split between Fairgreen International School in The Sustainable City and the British campuses towards Motor City, which produces two quite different evening timetables on one street.

Motor City

GEMS Metropole School is here, running the British route to A Level rather than the Diploma. Motor City Diploma students therefore travel further than their neighbours, and physics sessions here are often booked later to let the return trip finish first.

Dubai Sports City

Victory Heights Primary School serves the younger years; secondary and sixth-form students head out towards Al Barsha South or Dubai Hills Estate. The Sports City road layout is forgiving in the afternoon and far less so once the Hessa Street traffic builds.

DAMAC Hills

Jebel Ali School runs from Foundation Stage to Year 13 on the British curriculum with A Levels at the top, so DAMAC Hills families looking for DP Physics are usually commuting towards Dubai Hills Estate or Al Barsha South instead.

Dubai Hills Estate

GEMS International School Al Khail brings a full IB continuum within reach of the whole belt. It is the closest Diploma alternative to JESS for a Ranches family, and the Al Khail Road approach is the deciding factor on whether a five o'clock session is realistic.

Town Square

A large Nshama community further along the same corridor, with primary provision inside it and secondary travel out. Parents here ask the sharpest version of the question this page answers, because almost nobody teaching DP Physics lives within a ten-minute radius.

Remraam

South View School sits on this side of the belt, running the British curriculum. Remraam is the furthest of the comparison communities from the city's IB cluster, which is exactly why online delivery changes the arithmetic here more than anywhere else on the list.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in Arabian Ranches

Inside Arabian Ranches and Arabian Ranches 2

One through-school and one primary. JESS Arabian Ranches is the only campus in the comparison set that carries a student from Foundation Stage to the IB Diploma without leaving the community, which is why Ranches physics enquiries cluster around its DP1 and DP2 cohorts.

  • Jumeirah English Speaking School, Arabian Ranches
  • Ranches Primary School, Arabian Ranches 2

The Dubailand and Motor City belt

British-curriculum through-schools reached in minutes rather than half-hours from the Ranches. All four run IGCSE physics; their sixth forms lean towards A Level, so a family set on DP Physics looks past this cluster.

  • Jebel Ali School, DAMAC Hills
  • GEMS Metropole School, Motor City
  • GEMS FirstPoint School, The Villa
  • Victory Heights Primary School, Dubai Sports City
  • South View School, Remraam
  • The Aquila School, Dubailand

The IB cluster a short drive out

Where Ranches-belt families go for the Diploma when their own campus does not run it. Each of these holds IB authorisation for the Diploma Programme and several run the full continuum from PYP upwards.

  • Fairgreen International School, The Sustainable City
  • Emirates International School Meadows
  • GEMS International School Al Khail, Dubai Hills Estate
  • Dubai International Academy Emirates Hills
  • Nord Anglia International School Dubai
  • Safa Community School, Al Barsha South

Schools are named here as local context so that parents can place their own child's campus on the map. No affiliation, endorsement or partnership with any school or school group is implied, and inspection bands should be checked against the current KHDA report rather than taken from this page.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Tell us the themes, not just the subject

A first message that says Physics HL, DP2, struggling with fields and induction, mock in eight weeks is worth more than one that says physics help needed. Name the school, the level and the deadline, and the match can be made against the actual gap rather than against a subject label.

  2. 02

We match a physics specialist, not a general science tutor

Matching is done on the 2023 guide and on the level your child sits, with the themes they are behind on taken into account. If no specialist is free for the slot you want, we say so and offer the nearest workable alternative rather than filling the gap with a generalist.

  3. 03

Take the free trial lesson first

One full session before any payment, run as a real lesson rather than a sales call. The tutor works on something your child is stuck on and reports back on what they found. If the match is wrong, say so and we try a different tutor; nothing is owed either way.

  4. 04

Fix the weekly slot in Gulf Standard Time

The slot is chosen around the school run, evening sport and the realistic arrival time from your community. Ranches families usually settle between half past four and seven; families further out along Al Qudra Road tend to start later. The slot stays yours each week.

  5. 05

Review at the halfway point of the term

A short written note on which themes have moved, which have not, and what the next block should attack. This is the point at which families change frequency, add a second subject, or stop. Stopping when the problem is solved is a legitimate outcome, not a failure.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

The physics pool is not limited to your neighbourhood

A distance filter removes most of the DP Physics teaching capacity in Dubai before you have seen a single profile. Online delivery removes the filter, which is the entire argument this page makes. The specialist your child needs may live in Mirdif, or Sharjah, or not in the UAE at all.

AED figures published with their sources

Every rate on this page is attributed to the company or the research service that published it, with the tier it belongs to stated. Three of the six competitor pages researched for this project publish no price at all, and two quote in US dollars. A parent should be able to see where a number came from.

The investigation handled within IB rules

A fifth of the physics grade sits in the scientific investigation, and the correct boundary is teaching and feedback on the student's own work. We state that boundary in writing rather than leaving it comfortable and vague, because the student carries the consequence of getting it wrong.

A schedule built around the Dubailand school run

Session times are set from the community your child actually lives in and the campus they actually attend, not from a generic evening slot. The difference between a half past four start in Alvorada and a half past five start in Town Square is the whole reason this page compares communities.

No claimed accreditation we do not hold

IB Gram is not approved, licensed or endorsed by KHDA, ADEK, SPEA, MoHRE, the Ministry of Education, the IB, Cambridge or Pearson, and no page on this site says otherwise. We explain what each body does and point you to its own website to check anything that matters.

An honest answer when nobody is available

Niche combinations sometimes have no free specialist in the slot a family wants. We say that, and offer a different time or a different start date, rather than putting a generalist in front of a Physics HL student and letting the first month go to waste.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Arabian Ranches: your questions answered

Is there an IB Physics tutor living inside Arabian Ranches itself?+

Possibly one or two, and that is the problem. Diploma physics is a narrow specialism, and Arabian Ranches is a residential community of a few thousand villas rather than a teaching hub. Filtering by residence inside Alvorada, Saheel, Hattan or Palmera reduces the available pool to almost nothing before you have looked at a single qualification. IB Gram matches on the 2023 subject guide and on the level your child sits instead, then delivers the lesson live over video. The tutor's postcode stops being a variable, and the question becomes which specialist is free in your slot.

Would a physics tutor based in Dubai Hills Estate be any better than one further away?+

Not for a Diploma physics student. Dubai Hills Estate is closer to the city's IB cluster and has GEMS International School Al Khail inside it, so the chance of a DP Physics teacher living there is a little higher than in Arabian Ranches 3 or Town Square. A little higher is still very low. Once the lesson runs over video the difference disappears completely, because neither tutor is travelling. What changes the outcome is whether the person has taught themes A to E and worked Paper 2 extended responses, not which exit off Al Khail Road they use.

How does IB Physics Paper 1A differ from Paper 1B on the current syllabus?+

They are two parts of the same sitting with different demands. Paper 1A is multiple choice across the five themes, testing recall and quick reasoning. Paper 1B is data-based and experimental, drawing on the tools and inquiry skills taught through the course: reading graphs, handling uncertainties, judging whether a conclusion is supported. Together they carry 36 per cent of the grade. Most students arrive strong on 1A and weak on 1B, because the data skills are taught once and rarely drilled. That makes Paper 1B the most improvable component in the whole course.

What share of the IB Physics grade does the scientific investigation carry?+

Twenty per cent, at both Standard and Higher Level. It is an individual report of up to 3,000 words assessed against four criteria worth six marks each: research design, data analysis, conclusion and evaluation, giving 24 marks in total. Around ten hours of class time is allocated to it. The practical implication for a DP1 student in Arabian Ranches is that a fifth of the grade is decided before the examination hall, and it is the part a family has most control over, because it is written over weeks rather than in two hours under pressure.

Which IB Physics themes cause the most trouble for JESS Arabian Ranches students?+

The pattern across British-curriculum entrants is consistent, and JESS students follow it. Theme D, fields, causes the most difficulty, because gravitational, electric and magnetic fields are taught in parallel and students blur the sign conventions between them. Theme E, nuclear and quantum physics, comes second, mostly on unit handling between electronvolts and joules. Theme A, space, time and motion, is usually secure in content but leaks marks through graph interpretation. None of this is specific to one campus; it is what happens when IGCSE physics meets Diploma-level reasoning.

Does my child need a school laboratory if physics lessons are online?+

The laboratory work belongs to the school and stays there. Your child's practical sessions, the equipment for the scientific investigation and the supervision of experiments are all the school's responsibility, whether that is JESS Arabian Ranches, Fairgreen or GEMS International School Al Khail. An online tutor works on the theory, the data handling, the question technique and the written report. No equipment is needed at home. If a tutor suggests otherwise, or offers to supply experimental data, that is a signal to stop rather than to buy.

What does an IB Physics HL tutor cost around Arabian Ranches and Mudon?+

Published market rates put IB, IGCSE and A Level specialists between AED 200 and 450 an hour and above, according to Bestimate's 2026 Dubai rate table, with TutorChase listing AED 270 and BartyED's examiner-led tier at AED 650. In-home visits across Dubai are quoted at AED 180 to 500 an hour because the drive is inside the price. Qualified online subject tutors sit at AED 150 to 300. Those are other people's figures, named and dated. IB Gram does not publish a rate card on this page; the free trial and a short consultation establish the plan first.

Is Physics HL sensible if my child is taking Mathematics AI rather than AA?+

It is workable but it costs extra hours. Analysis and Approaches builds the calculus fluency that makes Physics HL kinematics, simple harmonic motion and induction feel routine. Applications and Interpretation is statistics and modelling led, which helps Paper 1B data work and helps far less with derivations. A Ranches student on AI taking Physics HL usually needs the algebraic technique taught alongside the physics rather than assumed. If an engineering degree is the destination, check each named university's own mathematics requirement before Year 12 choices are locked.

Can a tutor help with the physics investigation without breaking IB academic honesty rules?+

Yes, within a clear boundary. A tutor may teach the physics, explain what each of the four criteria rewards, show how to propagate uncertainties, discuss whether a research question is answerable, and give feedback on a draft the student has written. A tutor may not write, rewrite, edit to completion, supply a research question to be adopted or produce data. IB Gram works only on the first side of that line, and says so in writing. Providers selling finished Internal Assessments exist in this market; the risk of using one falls entirely on the student.

How late can an IB Physics session start after the Arabian Ranches school run?+

For a JESS Arabian Ranches student living inside the community, a half past four start is realistic because there is no commute to absorb. From Arabian Ranches 2 or Mudon, five o'clock is more honest. From Town Square, DAMAC Hills or Remraam, half past five to six works better once the Al Qudra Road and Hessa Street traffic is accounted for. Sessions run in Gulf Standard Time and the slot is fixed weekly, so the schedule is built around the worst evening of your week rather than the best one.

How many weeks before the May session should physics revision start?+

Revision proper belongs in the final twelve weeks; the work before that is coverage, not revision. A sensible DP2 plan has the investigation submitted around twenty weeks out, the first untimed past paper done around twelve weeks out, the first timed Paper 2 around eight weeks out, and weekly timed papers in the final fortnight. Confirm the session dates with your school's Diploma coordinator or on ibo.org, because published dates change and a revision plan built on a wrong date is worse than one with no dates in it.

Which exam board does Arabian Ranches sit for physics before the Diploma?+

It depends on the campus. British-curriculum schools around the Ranches belt run either Cambridge IGCSE Physics 0625, with Core and Extended tiers and a practical or alternative-to-practical paper, or Pearson Edexcel International GCSE Physics 4PH1, which is untiered across two written papers. Some schools use the double-award routes instead, Cambridge 0654 or Edexcel 4SD0. Ask the school examinations officer which syllabus code your child is entered for, because the code decides the past papers that are useful and the ones that waste time.

How do I check an IB Physics tutor holds a MoHRE private tuition permit?+

Ask directly, and expect a straight answer. The private tuition work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, is granted free of charge for two years, and is applied for through MoHRE's smart app, website or e-services system under the service named Issuance of a New Work Permit - Private Tutor Licensing. MoHRE lists a two-working-day completion time and no fee. Anyone tutoring without a permit is subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws, and no fine schedule has been published, so treat any quoted amount with suspicion.

My child can do the physics calculations but loses marks on explanations. Why?+

Because explanation marks are awarded per linked step, and a student who understands the idea often writes the conclusion without the chain. A three-mark explain question wants three distinct statements that follow from each other, each one examinable on its own. Describe, explain, deduce and determine all demand different structures, and most students have never been shown the difference explicitly. It is a trainable skill rather than a knowledge gap, and a tutor can usually move those marks within a few weeks by marking the student's own answers against the command term.

Do Arabian Ranches families need to look outside the community for DP Physics at all?+

Not for schooling. JESS Arabian Ranches runs the English National Curriculum through IGCSE and then the IB Diploma inside the community, so a Ranches child can reach DP Physics without a long commute. Families in Arabian Ranches 2 and 3, Mudon, Town Square and Remraam usually do travel, most often towards Fairgreen International School, GEMS International School Al Khail or the Al Barsha South campuses. For tutoring the question is different: nobody needs to look locally, because the lesson arrives over video wherever the specialist happens to live.

Start with a trial lesson, not a postcode

If your child sits IB Physics at a campus in or near Arabian Ranches, the useful next step is a free trial lesson with a specialist matched to the themes they are actually behind on. Tell us the level, the school, the mock date and the two topics causing the most trouble, and we will match a tutor to that rather than to a subject label. The session runs live over video in Gulf Standard Time, at a slot built around your community's school run. If the match is wrong, say so and we try again; nothing is owed either way. Lessons are online for every UAE family, and that is what makes the whole physics pool available to a Ranches household.
