IB Physics Tutor in Mudon

An IB physics tutor in Mudon earns their hour on specifics: stating the assumption behind a calculation, converting a gradient into a physical quantity, writing an extended response that a mark scheme can award. This page is about those specifics rather than about geography, because they are what separates a 4 from a 6 in Diploma physics. Lessons reach Mudon one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time; IB Gram does not send tutors to UAE addresses.

IB & IGCSE in Mudon

Physics grades move on technique, not on more content

A Diploma physics student stuck at a 4 usually knows the physics. What they have not learned is the form of answer the papers reward. A calculation is produced and the assumption behind it is never stated. A graph is drawn and the gradient is never converted into the quantity the question asked for. An extended response names the right phenomenon and never builds the causal chain that collects the marks. None of that is fixed by rereading a textbook.

Mudon sharpens the problem for a different reason. The community sits off Al Qudra Road in Dubailand with no secondary school inside its own boundary, so Diploma students travel to Jumeirah English Speaking School in Arabian Ranches, GEMS International School Al Khail, Nord Anglia in Al Barsha South or Fairgreen International in The Sustainable City. The evening is short, and a short evening spent on content review duplicates the school day rather than adding to it.

Physics also carries an uncomfortable dependency: it is examined in English and marked on reasoning, but it is failed most often on mathematics. Rearrangement, standard form, logarithms, gradients and uncertainties appear throughout the papers, and a student weak in any of them loses physics marks that look like physics gaps. Diagnosing that correctly is often the whole value of a first session.

There is a second reason local search is a poor filter here. Physics is one of the subjects where school departments in this belt differ most in the option they teach and in the practical programme they run, so a tutor's usefulness depends on matching the school rather than the postcode. A tutor fifteen minutes away who has taught a different option is less use than one on a screen who has taught the same one, and the family cannot tell the difference from a directory listing.

The internal component adds a second axis. The scientific investigation carries roughly a fifth of the subject grade, is marked against published criteria, and depends on the school's own equipment and practical scheme. Online tutoring cannot run the experiment and does not claim to. What it does is prepare the design, interrogate the variable control, examine the uncertainty treatment and give criterion feedback on the student's own write-up.

Delivery is one-to-one over live video, scheduled on Gulf Standard Time so a session can sit at 4.15pm for a student home early or after 8pm where both parents commute. Home visits are a service IB Gram runs in India only, and nothing here should be read as an offer to arrive at a Mudon door. The trade is a physical presence for a tutor who has actually taught Higher Level physics. What follows is organised by component rather than by topic, because that is how the marks are distributed and how a plan should be built.

At a glance

  • Extended-response marks are lost to unstated assumptions, not to missing content
  • Physics is failed most often on rearrangement, standard form and gradients
  • The scientific investigation carries roughly a fifth of the subject grade
  • Option topics differ by school, so name the school when you enquire
  • Market rates for a qualified online subject tutor in Dubai run roughly AED 150 to 300 an hour (Unitors)
IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Physics appears at two points in the Diploma and one before it. Mudon families ask about all three, usually in sequence.

DP HLAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

Physics Higher Level

Three external papers plus the scientific investigation. The Higher Level extension in fields, electromagnetic induction and the quantum and nuclear content is where grade boundaries separate students who have the same textbook knowledge. Paper 3 carries experimental and data work alongside the option.

Higher Level physics is the usual requirement for engineering and physical-science applications, and Mudon students taking it are generally also taking Analysis and Approaches. The two reinforce each other, which is an argument for pairing them with one tutor where the match allows.

DP SLAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

Physics Standard Level

The same core content without the Higher Level extensions, examined across fewer papers. Students often assume Standard Level is a lighter version of the same examination; the question styles are the same, which means the technique demands are identical even where the content is narrower.

Standard Level physics is a common third subject for Diploma students in this belt who are heading towards economics or business, and the usual tutoring need is technique rather than content, because the content is covered adequately in class.

PRE-DPAges 15-16 · Year 11 to Year 12

Year 11 into Diploma physics

The step from IGCSE physics or MYP sciences into Diploma physics is larger than the grade suggests, mostly in mathematical demand and in the expectation that a student will justify rather than state. The summer before Year 12 is the natural time to close it.

Mudon students arrive from several different schools and boards, so a Diploma physics class in Arabian Ranches or Al Khail can contain students with very different preparation. A short bridging block in the summer evens that out and is the cheapest useful window in the course.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

These are the Diploma subjects most often tutored alongside physics from this part of Dubailand, with the overlap that makes each pairing worthwhile.

Physics

HL and SL

Mechanics, thermal physics, waves, electricity, fields and nuclear. Extended responses lose marks to unstated assumptions; practical questions lose marks to methods a reader could not repeat.

Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches

HL and SL

The natural pairing. Calculus, vectors and graph interpretation all reappear in mechanics and fields, so one subject can be taught through the other rather than alongside it.

Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation

HL and SL

Less direct overlap, but the regression and uncertainty work transfers straight into physics data analysis and into the investigation's treatment of error.

Chemistry

HL and SL

Energetics and kinetics share the same graphical and proportional reasoning as physics. Students weak in one are usually weak in both, and the repair is shared.

Biology

HL and SL

Data-based questions reward the same discipline: read axes, units and scale before applying any science. The investigation criteria are the same across the science group.

Computer Science

HL and SL

Logic, algorithms and systems. Often taken alongside physics by students heading towards engineering, and the problem-decomposition habit transfers in both directions.

Design Technology

HL and SL

Where offered, it shares physics content on materials, forces and energy, and its coursework rewards the same explicit reasoning about design decisions.

Theory of Knowledge

Core

The natural sciences are the most used area of knowledge in Theory of Knowledge essays, and a physics student who understands falsifiability writes a better essay with less effort.

Extended Essay in physics

Core

A popular choice and a difficult one, because the experiment has to be feasible with school equipment. The research question decides the ceiling before any writing begins.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three physics formats, chosen from what the student's marked work shows. All are delivered over live video.

Weekly topic and technique hour

One session a week following the school's topic order, with half the hour on content and half on timed questions from the same topic. The default through Year 12, when the aim is to stop gaps accumulating.

  • Content and timed practice in the same session
  • Maths-inside-physics skills drilled as they arise
  • Weekly notes naming the topic and the next target
  • Slot moves within the evening when school runs late

Investigation coaching

Three or four sessions around the scientific investigation: research question, variable control, uncertainty treatment and evaluation. Feedback is given on the student's own draft against published criteria.

  • Design interrogated before the student enters the laboratory
  • Uncertainty and graph choice examined against the criteria
  • Evaluation taught as a criterion rather than a conclusion
  • No drafting, rewriting or supplying of text or data

Paper block before a session

Two sessions a week for eight to twelve weeks on timed papers, with extended response drilled separately from multiple choice and Paper 3 rehearsed whole at Higher Level.

  • Extended response practised against the mark scheme
  • Data and uncertainty questions drilled as their own skill
  • Paper 3 rehearsed in full at least twice
  • Errors classified rather than simply corrected

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Mudon

01

What each physics component actually examines

Diploma physics is examined across several papers plus an internal investigation, and each rewards something different. Multiple choice rewards speed, precision and elimination. Short and extended response rewards constructed reasoning. The experimental and option paper rewards data handling, uncertainty treatment and familiarity with the specific option the school teaches.

The internal investigation is the component students most often underestimate. It carries roughly a fifth of the subject grade, which makes it comparable to a whole paper, and it is marked on design and analysis and evaluation rather than on whether the experiment worked. A technically modest investigation, well designed and honestly evaluated, outscores an ambitious one written up loosely.

Exact weightings come from the current subject guide, which the school's physics department can confirm. They should not be taken from a tutoring page, because guides change between cycles and a stale figure is worse than no figure. What is stable is the relative shape: the response paper carries the largest external share, and the investigation carries a meaningful internal one.

The practical use of knowing this is prioritisation. A student losing most of their marks in extended response should not be spending their tutoring hour on multiple-choice drills, however much better that feels.

One further point about the option paper. Because schools choose the option, a published revision guide bought online may cover content the student will never be examined on, and that discovery is usually made late. Checking the option against the school's own scheme of work before buying any resource saves both money and revision time, and it takes one question at a parents' evening.

02

The topics where Higher Level grades separate

  • Fields: memorised cases rather than one idea with different constants
  • Induction: a stated law that cannot survive a change of geometry
  • Thermal and gases: unit conversion and absolute temperature under time
  • Quantum and nuclear: imprecise language against specific mark schemes
  • Mechanics: when it fails, the cause is usually vector treatment

Across marked Higher Level scripts the losses concentrate in a few predictable places. Fields is the first: gravitational and electric fields treated as separate memorised cases rather than as one idea with different constants, so a question phrased unfamiliarly defeats a student who could answer the standard version.

Electromagnetic induction is the second. Students can state the law and cannot apply it to a situation where the geometry changes, because they learned a result rather than the reasoning that produces it. The repair is working several physically different situations until the method rather than the answer becomes the thing remembered.

Thermal physics and the gas laws form a third cluster, where the failures are usually mathematical: unit conversion, absolute temperature, and proportional reasoning under time pressure. Quantum and nuclear content is a fourth, and here the losses are often about precision of language, since the mark schemes are specific about terms in a way that general understanding does not satisfy.

Mechanics is the outlier. Most students handle it adequately because it is taught first and revisited often, but when it does fail the cause is nearly always vector treatment, and that is a mathematics problem wearing a physics costume.

The useful consequence is that the topic order of a tutoring plan should not follow the textbook. Fields and induction taught properly early, with the reasoning rather than the results committed to memory, prevents most of the losses described above. Mechanics revisited only if a script shows vector errors. Quantum and nuclear handled late, with the emphasis on precise terminology rather than on additional content.

03

Extended response: the marks almost nobody collects

  • Name the physics explicitly rather than implying it
  • State the assumption: negligible resistance, uniform field, elastic collision
  • Build steps a reader can follow, with units and sensible significant figures
  • Count the marks before writing; six marks wants six creditable statements

Extended response is where the largest single block of recoverable marks sits in Diploma physics, and most students have never been taught how to write one. They treat it as a long short-answer and produce a correct calculation with no surrounding argument, which collects the method marks and leaves the rest.

What a mark scheme rewards is explicit. The physics is named rather than implied. The assumption is stated: that air resistance is negligible, that the collision is elastic, that the field is uniform over the region considered. Each step follows from the last in a sequence a reader can follow. The final answer carries units and a sensible number of significant figures. And where the question asks for a comment, there is one.

The drill is to write the structure before the physics. Three or four extended responses a week, each planned in two lines before any working, each marked by the student against the published scheme. Within a month most students stop losing those marks, which is a faster return than any content revision available to them.

The second habit worth installing is reading the mark allocation. A six-mark question wants six creditable statements, not one long paragraph, and a student who counts before writing finishes the paper.

There is one more habit worth installing, and it is about handwriting and layout rather than physics. Markers award credit for statements they can find. An answer written as a single dense block, with the working interleaved and no line breaks, loses marks that the same content laid out in steps would collect. Students resist this until they mark a classmate's script and cannot follow it either.

04

The scientific investigation, read as criteria

  • A messy result honestly evaluated can outscore a clean one reported flatly
  • The research question sets the ceiling before any data exists
  • Uncertainties must be propagated, not mentioned
  • Evaluation wants specific physics-based limitations, not more trials
  • Tutors give criterion feedback on the student's own draft and nothing beyond it

The investigation is assessed against published criteria, not against whether the data came out well. That single fact changes how a student should approach it. A measurement that produces a messy relationship, honestly analysed and evaluated with its limitations named, can score higher than a clean result reported without reflection.

Design is where the ceiling is set. A research question with one clear independent variable, a controlled set of others, and a measurable dependent variable can score across every criterion. A vague question cannot be rescued, however carefully the experiment is run, because the criteria ask about the quality of the investigation rather than the effort behind it.

Analysis is where most of the mathematical marks live. Uncertainties have to be propagated rather than mentioned, graphs chosen so the relationship is visible, gradients converted to the physical quantity they represent, and anomalies addressed rather than deleted. Students who have never been taught uncertainty propagation lose these marks silently.

Evaluation is the criterion most often treated as a conclusion. It asks for specific, physics-based limitations and realistic improvements, not a note that more trials would have helped. A tutor can explain each descriptor and mark the student's own draft against it, which is permitted. Drafting, rewriting or supplying data is not, and the investigation is authenticated by the teacher.

Timing matters here as much as technique. Criteria reward process, and process has to exist before it can be written up. A student who runs the experiment first and reads the criteria afterwards has already lost design marks that cannot be recovered. Reading the descriptors before the practical, and keeping a dated log while it happens, costs nothing and changes the ceiling.

05

The mathematics hiding inside physics

A large share of physics failures are mathematics failures, and treating them as physics wastes a term. The pattern is consistent: a student understands the concept, cannot execute the manipulation under time, and concludes they are bad at physics. The diagnosis is visible in a marked script, because the errors cluster around the algebra rather than around the ideas.

Rearrangement is the most common. A formula with the unknown in the denominator, or inside a square root, or on both sides, defeats students who can state the relationship perfectly. The repair is twenty minutes a week of pure manipulation practice with physics formulas, separated from any physics reasoning so that only one skill is being tested at a time.

Standard form and unit prefixes are second. Converting nanometres, kilojoules and microamps reliably under pressure is a skill, and students who do it slowly lose marks to time rather than to error. Logarithms arrive in the nuclear and quantum content and in graph linearisation, and a student who cannot manipulate them cannot access those questions at all.

Gradients are the highest-value item on the list. Physics asks constantly for a gradient to be converted into a physical quantity, in both the papers and the investigation, and students who treat a gradient as a number rather than as a quantity with units lose marks in several places at once.

The diagnostic trick is simple enough for a parent to apply. Take a question the student got wrong, remove the physics and ask them to do the algebra alone. If the algebra fails in isolation, the problem is mathematical and should be treated as such. If it succeeds, the problem is in the physics reasoning or in the answer construction, and the hour belongs somewhere else entirely.

06

Higher Level against Standard Level in physics

Parents often ask whether Standard Level is the safer choice, and the answer depends on what the student needs rather than on difficulty alone. Higher Level covers additional content, examines an extra paper, and is usually required for engineering and physical-science applications. Standard Level covers the core and examines fewer papers.

The part families underestimate is that the question styles are the same. Standard Level is not an easier style of examination; it is a narrower syllabus examined in the same way, which means the technique demands are identical. A student who struggles with extended response will struggle with it at either level, and dropping to Standard does not solve a technique problem.

Where dropping to Standard Level genuinely helps is content load, particularly for a student carrying three Higher Level sciences or combining Higher Level physics with Higher Level mathematics and chemistry. That combination is heavy, and a student doing all three badly is worse placed than one doing two well.

The decision belongs with the school, and the useful time to make it is early rather than during the second year. The question to ask is what university routes the student is realistically considering, checked against each institution's own published entry profile rather than against general advice.

One practical note on timing. A level change is easier early in Year 12 than late, and in some schools it becomes impossible once the second year begins because the teaching groups diverge. If the question is live, ask the school for its own deadline in writing rather than assuming flexibility exists, and ask what evidence they would want to see either way.

07

The laboratory question, answered honestly

  • The experiment belongs to the school; the write-up carries the marks
  • Before the laboratory: question, method viability, variables, expected uncertainty
  • After the laboratory: graph choice, propagation, criterion-by-criterion reading
  • The department's actual equipment constrains what a research question can be

An online physics tutor cannot run an experiment with a student, and any page suggesting otherwise is overselling. The practical work belongs to the school: its equipment, its safety procedures, its scheme of work. What a Mudon family should expect from online tutoring is work on everything that surrounds the practical, which is where the assessed marks actually sit.

Before the laboratory, a session can interrogate the research question, test whether the proposed method will produce a measurable relationship, identify the variables that need controlling and anticipate where the largest uncertainty will come from. Students who do this arrive with a plan rather than with an idea, and the difference shows in the design criterion.

After the laboratory, a session can examine the raw data, check whether the chosen graph makes the relationship visible, work through uncertainty propagation on the student's own numbers, and read the draft against each criterion. This is the part of the investigation most students rush, and it carries more marks than the measuring did.

The school's equipment also constrains what is sensible to attempt. A research question requiring apparatus the department does not hold is a dead end regardless of how good the idea is, which is why naming the school at the start of a tutoring arrangement matters more than it appears to.

A short note on data. Where a student has measured something and the relationship is unclear, the instinct is to repeat the experiment. Often the better move is to examine whether the graph chosen hides the relationship, since linearising the data can reveal a pattern that a direct plot conceals. That is analysis work, it happens on a screen, and it rescues more investigations than another afternoon of measuring does.

What physics tuition costs, and what to ask before paying

  • Specialist band: AED 200 to 450 and above (TutorChase 270; Bestimate 200-450+)
  • Qualified online band: AED 150 to 300 (Unitors IB from 200)
  • In-home band: AED 180 to 500, travel inside the quote
  • Ask which option topic and how uncertainty propagation is taught
  • The MoHRE private tuition permit is free and valid two years; ask whether it is held

Physics requests land in the specialist end of this market, because the subject is harder to cover credibly than most. Named IB and IGCSE specialists publish roughly AED 200 to 450 an hour and above, with TutorChase at AED 270 and Bestimate's Dubai cost table giving AED 200 to 450 or more. Premium examiner-led provision reaches AED 500 to 650, with BartyED publishing AED 650.

Below that, a qualified subject tutor working online sits at roughly AED 150 to 300, with Unitors publishing IB from AED 200. Budget online and university-student tutors advertise from around AED 45 to 150, with EdFlik at AED 45 to 65 and Tutopiya at AED 33 to 52, which can suit routine question practice but rarely suits Higher Level technique work. In-home visits are quoted at roughly AED 180 to 500 with travel inside the price.

Monthly, Bestimate's estimates for a weekly hour run AED 240 to 600 budget, AED 600 to 1,200 mid and AED 1,000 to 2,000 or more for specialist exam-year support. For context, KHDA confirmed in May 2026 that Dubai private school fees would not rise for 2026-27. These are market figures with their sources named rather than IB Gram prices.

The questions that matter before paying are narrow. Which level have you taught and for how many cohorts. Which option topic. How do you teach uncertainty propagation. What will you do with an investigation draft, and what will you refuse to do. Do you hold the MoHRE private tuition work permit, which is granted free of charge for two years under Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Name the level, the option and the school

Higher or Standard Level, which option the school teaches, and which school. Option content varies between Dubai schools, and Paper 3 preparation is useless if it covers a different one. The school also sets the practical scheme the investigation depends on.

  2. 02

Send a marked paper and the investigation status

A marked response paper shows whether the losses are content, construction or mathematics. Knowing whether the investigation is unstarted, measured or drafted tells us where the recoverable marks are. Two facts, one message, and a specific proposal becomes possible.

  3. 03

Free trial lesson with a physics specialist

A trial over live video at no cost and before payment, with the student doing most of the talking. The test afterwards is whether the tutor named something specific, such as unstated assumptions in extended response or weak rearrangement. If not, ask for a different tutor.

  4. 04

Fix the slot around the Dubailand school run

Sessions sit on Gulf Standard Time. Early evening suits students home from Arabian Ranches; after 8pm suits households where both parents commute. Because nobody drives to Al Salam or Arabella, the slot can move within the evening or after Iftar during Ramadan at no cost.

  5. 05

Review by component every few weeks

Session notes name the topic, the error pattern and the next target. Every four to six weeks the plan is checked against the investigation deadline and against which component the remaining marks sit in, so the hour follows the marks rather than the syllabus order.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

Matched on level and option, not on distance

A search by proximity from Mudon returns generalists based around Motor City and Dubai Sports City. A search by subject returns people who have taught Higher Level physics and the option the school actually teaches. At Higher Level that is the difference that moves the grade.

The maths inside physics is diagnosed separately

Rearrangement, standard form, logarithms, gradients and uncertainty propagation cost physics marks that look like physics gaps. Twenty minutes a week of pure manipulation practice, kept apart from physics reasoning, fixes more than another topic revision cycle would.

Extended response is drilled against the scheme

The largest block of recoverable marks in Diploma physics sits in extended response, and most students have never been shown what a mark scheme rewards there. Planning the structure before the physics, then self-marking, closes it within about a month.

The laboratory limit is stated, not hidden

Online lessons cannot run an experiment and this page says so. What they do is prepare the design and interrogate the analysis and evaluation, which is where the investigation's marks actually sit. Overselling that would be the easiest sentence to write and the least honest.

Coursework help stops where IB rules require

Criterion explanation, method critique and feedback on the student's own draft are teaching. Drafting, rewriting, editing to completion or supplying data are not, and are refused. A malpractice finding can cost the Diploma rather than the marks.

Thin coverage is disclosed before you pay

Higher Level physics with a less common option, or physics paired with Further Mathematics, has limited availability in any market. Where that applies you are told with a timescale or an alternative rather than matched to a generalist and left to find out.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Mudon: your questions answered

Why does my son understand physics and still score 4s?+

Almost always answer construction rather than knowledge. The pattern in marked Higher Level scripts is consistent: a calculation is correct and the assumption behind it is never stated, a graph is drawn and the gradient is never converted into the quantity asked for, and an extended response names the right phenomenon without building the causal chain. None of that improves with rereading. It improves by planning the structure before writing, marking his own work against the published scheme, and counting the mark allocation before answering.

Which physics topics should a Higher Level student attack first?+

Fields and electromagnetic induction, in most cases. Across marked scripts those two carry the heaviest losses, because students learn results rather than the reasoning that produces them and then fail when the geometry or the phrasing changes. Thermal physics and the gas laws form a second cluster where the failures are usually mathematical rather than conceptual. Mechanics is generally adequate, and when it does fail the cause is vector treatment. A marked paper will confirm which of these applies before any time is spent.

Can an online tutor help with the physics investigation without a laboratory?+

With everything except the measuring, which is where the marks are. Before the practical, a session can interrogate the research question, test whether the method will produce a measurable relationship, identify the variables needing control and anticipate the largest uncertainty. After it, a session can examine the raw data, check the graph choice, work uncertainty propagation on the student's own numbers and read the draft against each criterion. The experiment itself belongs to the school and its equipment, and no page should claim otherwise.

How much does the physics investigation count towards the grade?+

Roughly a fifth of the subject grade, with the precise figure set by the current subject guide, which the school's physics department can confirm. That makes it comparable to a whole paper. What surprises students is that it is marked on design, analysis and evaluation rather than on whether the experiment produced a clean result: a messy relationship, honestly analysed with its limitations named in physics terms, can outscore a tidy result reported without reflection.

Is poor maths the real reason a student fails Diploma physics?+

Very often, and misdiagnosing it wastes a term. The signature in a marked script is errors clustering around algebra rather than around concepts: rearrangement with the unknown in a denominator or under a root, slow or wrong standard-form conversion, logarithms that block access to a question entirely, and gradients treated as bare numbers rather than as quantities with units. The repair is twenty minutes a week of pure manipulation practice using physics formulas, deliberately separated from physics reasoning so only one skill is tested at a time.

Should a struggling student drop from Higher to Standard Level physics?+

Only for the right reason. Standard Level covers the core without the Higher Level extensions and examines fewer papers, but the question styles are identical, so a technique problem travels with the student. Dropping genuinely helps where the issue is content load, particularly for someone carrying three Higher Level sciences or combining Higher Level physics with Higher Level mathematics and chemistry. The decision belongs with the school, and it should be checked against the published entry profiles of the universities actually being considered.

Does the option topic my child's school teaches really matter?+

Enough that revising the wrong one is a wasted term. Schools choose which option to teach, so two Diploma physics students in Dubai can sit the same core content and entirely different option questions. Paper 3 preparation has to match the school's choice. Name the school and the option when you enquire, and the tutor sets questions from the right one. It also tells us what the practical scheme and the available equipment look like, which shapes what an investigation can realistically attempt.

What does an extended-response drill actually look like?+

Three or four questions a week, each planned in two lines before any physics is written, each marked by the student against the published scheme. The plan names the physics to be used and the assumption to be stated. The marking is the part that teaches, because it shows exactly which statements earned credit. A second habit goes with it: count the mark allocation before writing, since a six-mark question wants six creditable statements rather than one long paragraph. Most students stop losing those marks within a month.

How do we prepare for Diploma physics over the summer before Year 12?+

Six to eight sessions on the things the first term assumes and does not teach. Rearrangement at speed, standard form and prefixes, basic logarithm manipulation, vector components, and the habit of justifying rather than stating. Students arriving at a Diploma physics class in Arabian Ranches or Al Khail come from several different schools and boards, so the class contains very differently prepared students, and the gap shows within weeks. The summer block is the cheapest useful window in the course and almost nobody uses it.

Can one tutor take both physics and maths for a Mudon Year 13?+

Frequently, and the overlap is genuine: calculus, vectors and graph interpretation appear in mechanics and fields, so one subject can be taught through the other rather than competing with it. At Higher Level in both simultaneously the combination is less common and the honest answer is sometimes two tutors. Ask which papers the tutor has marked in each subject rather than whether they can cover both. Scheduling is identical either way, because no travel has to be arranged between slots.

Is a physics Extended Essay a good idea?+

It can be excellent and it is unforgiving. The research question has to be answerable with equipment the school actually holds, in a measurement a student can take reliably, and within the word limit. Most weak physics Extended Essays are not badly written; they ask a question that could not be answered with the available apparatus. One or two sessions interrogating the question before any work begins is worth more than ten later. The essay itself must be entirely the student's own work, authenticated by the supervisor.

What does a Higher Level physics tutor cost in this market?+

Physics sits in the specialist end. Named IB and IGCSE specialists publish roughly AED 200 to 450 an hour and above, with TutorChase at AED 270 and Bestimate's Dubai cost table at AED 200 to 450 or more, while premium examiner-led provision reaches AED 650 at BartyED. A qualified subject tutor working online sits at AED 150 to 300, with Unitors publishing IB from AED 200. These are published market figures rather than IB Gram prices, and a free trial lesson comes before any payment.

How quickly can a physics tutor start for a Mudon student?+

Standard Level physics is usually covered within a few days of you naming the level, option and school. Higher Level with a common option is similar. Narrower requests take longer: a less-taught option, Higher Level physics paired with Further Mathematics, or investigation coaching close to a school deadline can need a week or more. Where coverage is genuinely thin you are told with a timescale or offered an alternative, rather than matched to a generalist. The trial lesson is free and happens before any payment.

Will a tutor explain uncertainty propagation properly?+

It should be one of the first things covered, because it is assessed in two places and taught thoroughly in few. Uncertainties have to be propagated through calculations rather than mentioned in a sentence, and the method differs for sums, products and powers. Students who have never been shown it lose marks in the data paper and in the investigation's analysis criterion simultaneously. The practical approach is to work through propagation on the student's own measured data, so the method is learned on numbers they recognise rather than on a textbook example.

Start with a marked paper and the option topic

Physics responds faster to accurate diagnosis than to additional hours. Send the level, the option the school teaches, the school itself and one marked response paper, and a free trial lesson over live video is arranged before any payment is taken. The session should end with something specific named, whether that is unstated assumptions in extended response or rearrangement failing under time. Lessons are delivered online on Gulf Standard Time; the experiment stays with the school, and home visits are a service IB Gram runs in India only.
