IGCSE Maths Tutor in Mudon

Choosing an IGCSE maths tutor in Mudon starts with a comparison most families never make: which board, which tier, and what grade that combination can actually produce. Cambridge 0580 and Pearson 4MA1 are different papers with different conventions, and Core or Foundation caps the grade before the exam is sat. This page compares them properly and says what each route opens next. Lessons reach Mudon one-to-one over live video; IB Gram does not visit homes in the UAE.

IB & IGCSE in Mudon

Two boards, two tiers, four different ceilings

An IGCSE maths grade is produced by three decisions and one performance. The decisions are which board the school enters students for, which tier they are placed in, and when revision switches from topics to papers. The performance happens on the day. Families focus almost entirely on the performance, and the decisions are where the grade is actually constrained.

Mudon makes the comparison concrete. The community sits off Al Qudra Road in Dubailand with no secondary school inside its own boundary, so students travel to Jebel Ali School in DAMAC Hills, GEMS Metropole in Motor City, South View School towards Remraam, GEMS FirstPoint in The Villa or further along Al Khail Road. Those schools do not all use the same board, and a few use different boards for different subjects, which means two Mudon neighbours in the same year group can be sitting entirely different maths papers.

The board comparison matters because the papers differ in structure rather than in difficulty. Cambridge 0580 is tiered Core and Extended. Pearson 4MA1 is tiered Foundation and Higher. The number of papers, the phrasing of questions, the amount of working the mark scheme expects to see, and the way a multi-step problem is scaffolded all differ. A student who revises from the other board's past papers learns to expect questions that will not appear.

The tier comparison matters more, and almost nobody raises it until it is too late. Core and Foundation cap the available grade. A student entered for the lower tier cannot earn a top grade however well they perform, and the entry is usually lodged months before the papers on the basis of work done late in Year 10. If a science A Level or a Higher Level Diploma maths route is in view, the higher tier is not optional.

The third decision, when revision switches from topics to papers, is the one a family controls directly. Most students in this belt keep revising topics until the week before the papers, because topic revision feels productive and a timed paper feels like a test. The switch should happen around three months out, and it should be complete by six weeks out. A student who has sat six full timed papers under conditions behaves differently in the exam hall from one who has read six chapters, even where the two know the same mathematics.

IB Gram delivers this as one-to-one online tuition on Gulf Standard Time, with the tutor matched to the code and tier the student is actually entered for. Home visits are a service IB Gram runs in India only, and nothing on this page should be read as an offer to arrive at a Mudon address. What follows is the comparison in tables: board against board, tier against tier, grade against what it opens, and the market rates attached to each kind of help.

At a glance

  • Cambridge 0580 is tiered Core and Extended; Pearson 4MA1 is Foundation and Higher
  • The lower tier caps the grade regardless of performance on the day
  • Schools in this belt do not all use one board across the whole timetable
  • Past papers must match the code and tier the student is entered for
  • Market rates for a qualified online subject tutor in Dubai run roughly AED 150 to 300 an hour (Unitors)

Cambridge IGCSE Mathematics

A linear two-year course examined at the end, tiered Core and Extended. Extended covers the fuller syllabus including harder algebra, trigonometry, functions and probability, and reaches the top of the grade scale. Core covers a narrower syllabus and caps in the middle of it.

Cambridge allocates every exam centre to one of six administrative zones and states that the correct zone timetable must be used, warning that it cannot accept responsibility for candidates who miss an exam after using the wrong version. UAE candidates sit the June and November series; the February and March series is offered in India only.

What the maths grade opens

An IGCSE maths grade is the entry ticket to an A Level in mathematics or to one of the two IB Diploma maths routes, and schools set their own thresholds. The step up to Analysis and Approaches at Higher Level is the largest jump on a Dubai sixth-form timetable, larger than the grade alone suggests.

For UAE university applications later, Ministry of Education equivalency on the British track asks for five accredited subjects at no less than grade E or grade 3, with Arabic and Islamic education excluded from the five, plus one Advanced Level subject at E or two Advanced Subsidiary subjects at the same grade.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

Maths rarely arrives alone. These are the subjects most often tutored alongside it from this part of Dubailand, with the specific overlap that makes the pairing efficient.

Mathematics

0580 Core and Extended; 4MA1 Foundation and Higher

Algebra, number, geometry, trigonometry, statistics and probability. The reliable losses are early rounding, unshown method on multi-step questions, and abandoning the last page because question order was never planned.

Additional and Further Mathematics

Where offered

Taken alongside the main course at some schools as preparation for A Level. Coverage for it is thinner in any tutoring market, and that is disclosed when a request arrives rather than discovered later.

Physics

0625 and 4PH1

The subject where weak maths most often looks like weak physics. Rearrangement, standard form and graph gradients carry marks across the paper, and fixing the maths usually moves the physics grade with it.

Chemistry

0620 and 4CH1

Moles calculations, concentration and yield all depend on confident proportional reasoning. Students who fail these questions often understand the chemistry and cannot execute the arithmetic under time.

Biology

0610 and 4BI1

Less calculation than the other sciences but more data interpretation, where reading axes, scale and units correctly before applying any biology is what separates grades.

Business Studies

IGCSE

Break-even, cash flow and ratio work reuse the same proportional reasoning as the maths paper, so the two subjects reinforce each other more than timetables suggest.

Economics

IGCSE

Diagram accuracy and precise terminology, with some numerical work. One of the most improvable subjects by drilling, because many of the losses are mechanical rather than conceptual.

Computer Science

IGCSE

Binary, hexadecimal and data representation sit directly on number work, and pseudocode rewards the same slow mechanical discipline that trace tables and long division do.

English Language

0500 and 4EA1

Included because it is the second subject Mudon families most often add. Register and task type matter as much as vocabulary, and timing failures here mirror those in maths.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three formats, selected by where the student sits in the two-year course rather than by preference. All are delivered over live video.

Year 10 ceiling building

A weekly hour in Year 10 aimed at the harder end of the syllabus, so that the tier decision goes the right way before it is made. The least urgent and highest-return money in the course, and the least often spent.

  • Harder topics taught early rather than revised late
  • Evidence built for a tier conversation with the school
  • Board and code fixed from the first session
  • Weekly notes naming the topic and the next target

Year 11 paper work

One or two sessions a week from the spring term, built on timed questions from the student's own code and tier, marked against the published scheme. The purpose is converting known content into marks earned.

  • Timed sections in every session
  • Student marks their own work against the scheme
  • Question-order and pacing strategy rehearsed
  • Errors classified as slip, method, timing or misreading

Bridging block into Year 12

Six to eight sessions across the summer after Year 11, aimed at the step into A Level mathematics or one of the IB Diploma routes. The cheapest useful tutoring window in the whole British-curriculum sequence.

  • Algebraic fluency raised to sixth-form expectations
  • Notation and independence gap addressed explicitly
  • Route-specific preparation for A Level or Diploma maths
  • No competing homework during the block

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Mudon

01

Cambridge 0580 against Pearson 4MA1

The two boards examine overlapping mathematics and are not interchangeable in practice. The differences that matter to a student are structural: how many papers are sat, how a multi-step question is scaffolded, how much working the mark scheme expects to see written down, and how the command phrasing is worded. None of those change what mathematics is true; all of them change what a well-prepared answer looks like.

Working shown is the clearest example. Both boards award method marks, but the amount of intermediate working a student habitually writes is trained by the papers they practise on. A student used to one board's style who sits the other's paper will sometimes produce a correct answer with insufficient method and lose marks they had earned. That is a training artefact, not a knowledge gap, and it is entirely avoidable.

Tier naming differs too, which causes real confusion in parent conversations. Cambridge uses Core and Extended in 0580; Pearson uses Foundation and Higher in 4MA1. People use the words interchangeably in community groups, and a family can leave a conversation believing their child is on the higher tier when the school has entered them otherwise. The fix is to ask the school for the entry in writing: subject, board, code, tier.

For tutoring the implication is simple. The code on the past paper must match the code on the entry, every time, from the first session. Where a school uses different boards for different subjects, which happens in this belt, the list is per subject rather than per student.

The tier decision, and the grade it rules out

Tiering is the most consequential decision in IGCSE maths and the least discussed with parents. The lower tier covers a narrower syllabus and caps the available grade. The higher tier covers the fuller syllabus and reaches the top. A student entered for the lower tier who performs flawlessly still receives a capped grade, because the paper they sat does not contain the questions that earn more.

Schools place conservatively and there is a reason for it. A student who sits the higher tier and cannot access the harder questions can end up with a worse outcome than one who sits the lower tier and performs strongly. That is a genuine risk and a careful department weighs it. The problem is that the judgement is made on attainment at a particular moment, usually late in Year 10, and students change after that.

Which means the decision is contestable, with evidence and with timing. If a student's work improves after placement, the case has to be made in writing and before the entry deadline, which sits months ahead of the papers. Three questions to the school settle it: which tier is my child entered for, what evidence would change that, and what is the last date an amendment can be made.

The consequence reaches beyond the grade. A capped maths grade can close a science A Level or a Higher Level Diploma maths route, because sixth forms set thresholds that the lower tier cannot reach. For a Mudon family planning a sixth form at a different school from the current one, that is worth checking a full year before applications.

What an IGCSE maths grade opens next

The grade is not the end of the decision; it is the entry condition for the next one. A Mudon student finishing Year 11 chooses between A Level mathematics, one of the two IB Diploma maths routes, or a timetable without mathematics beyond the compulsory minimum. Each has a different expectation, and schools set thresholds rather than boards.

The hardest step on a Dubai timetable is IGCSE maths into Analysis and Approaches at Higher Level. The content jump is real, but the larger jump is in expected independence and in the proportion of work done without technology. Students who coasted to a strong grade with a calculator permanently in hand find Paper 1 brutal, and the discovery usually happens in the first mock rather than in September.

A Level mathematics is a different kind of step: narrower in breadth, deeper in algebra, and unforgiving about fluency. Applications and Interpretation is more accessible from a mid-range IGCSE grade and is not a soft option at Higher Level, where its statistical content and modelling investigation defeat students who chose it to avoid calculus.

The practical move for a family in this belt is to ask the intended sixth form for its published thresholds before Year 11 results, not after. Thresholds differ between schools in the same emirate, and the summer bridging block that makes the step survivable has to be booked before results arrive if it is going to happen at all.

Where IGCSE maths marks are lost, and how fast each is fixed

  • Early rounding: about a fortnight, by requiring full precision until the last line
  • Unshown method: three or four sessions of self-marking against the scheme
  • Timing collapse: a question-order rule plus full papers under conditions
  • Misreading: two weeks of reading the question aloud before writing
  • Content absence: months, and a deliberate decision about which topics to drop

Marks in IGCSE maths go missing in four ways, and the four have wildly different repair times. The first is early rounding: a student rounds an intermediate value, carries it forward, and the final answer falls outside the accepted range. That is a habit and it is fixed in about a fortnight by requiring full precision until the last line.

The second is unshown method. A multi-step question awards marks along the way, and a student who writes only the answer loses them even when the answer is right, and loses everything when it is wrong. This is trained by marking their own scripts against the scheme until they see where the marks sat, which takes three or four sessions to become automatic.

The third is timing collapse, visible as a strong first half and an abandoned final page. It responds quickly to a question-order rule and full papers under conditions, and it is the single most common reason a capable student underperforms. The fourth is misreading, where a correct method answers a question the paper did not ask, and that responds to reading the question aloud before writing for a couple of weeks.

Content absence is the fifth and the slow one. Whole questions untouched, rather than scattered small losses, is the signature, and it needs months rather than weeks. The honest conversation at that point is about which topics carry enough marks to be worth the time, and which are being written off deliberately.

What maths tuition costs in this market, cheapest first

  • Cheapest published online rate in this market: AED 33 an hour (Tutopiya)
  • Qualified online band: AED 150 to 300 (Unitors IGCSE from 150)
  • In-home band: AED 180 to 500, travel inside the quote
  • Highest published rate found: AED 650 an hour (BartyED)
  • Three of the six most visible pages in this market publish no price at all

Starting at the bottom is honest, because that is where most searches begin. Budget online tutors and university students advertise from roughly AED 45 to 150 an hour in Dubai, with EdFlik publishing AED 45 to 65 and Tutopiya AED 33 to 52. For working through exercise sets with a student who is already organised, that tier is defensible, and dismissing it would be dishonest.

The qualified online band sits at roughly AED 150 to 300, with Unitors publishing IGCSE from AED 150. This is where a tutor who can classify losses from a marked script and set work against them normally sits. Subject specialists run AED 200 to 450 and above, with TutorChase publishing AED 270 and Bestimate's Dubai table giving AED 200 to 450 or more, and premium examiner-led provision reaches AED 650 at BartyED.

In-home visits have their own band because travel is inside the quote: roughly AED 180 to 500 an hour, Bestimate at AED 180 to 350 and independent home tutors advertising AED 200 to 500. Monthly packages seen in this market include AED 799 for eight online sessions and AED 1,599 to 1,799 for four two-hour in-home sessions.

Across a month, Bestimate's Tutoring Cost Dubai 2026 estimates for a weekly one-hour arrangement run AED 240 to 600 at the budget end, AED 600 to 1,200 in the middle and AED 1,000 to 2,000 or more for specialist exam-year support. For household context, KHDA confirmed in May 2026 that Dubai private school fees would not rise for 2026-27. All of these are market figures with their sources named, not IB Gram prices.

06

Group maths classes against one-to-one, from Mudon

  • Group classes work when the whole room shares one code and one tier
  • Dubailand groups usually mix boards, which forces content teaching
  • From Mudon a ninety-minute class costs most of an evening in travel
  • Use a group for breadth and one-to-one for the identified losses

Group revision classes are cheaper per student and genuinely effective in one configuration: everyone in the room sitting the same code at the same tier with roughly the same gap. That configuration occurs most often in spring-term maths, which is why maths group classes are the most defensible group product in this market.

The problem in Dubailand is assembling that room. Children from one community attend several different schools on different curricula, and the schools do not share a board, so a maths group formed from Mudon, Remraam and Arabian Ranches 3 families will usually mix 0580 and 4MA1 students at two tiers. The teacher then has to teach content, because paper technique cannot be taught to both boards at once, and paper technique is what the spring term needs.

The travel arithmetic is the second factor. From Mudon, a ninety-minute class in Motor City costs most of an evening once the round trip at peak time is counted, and a Year 11 who left school at four is home at eight. A one-to-one session over video starts at 4.30pm and the evening still holds homework and dinner.

The honest recommendation is sequencing rather than loyalty. If a group class exists at a workable time and matches the code and tier, use it for broad revision. Use one-to-one for the two specific losses a marked script identifies, because those cannot be addressed in a room of eight.

One further consideration specific to this belt: group timings. A class that starts at six in Motor City suits a family living in Motor City. For a Mudon or Town Square student it means leaving before homework starts and returning after it should have finished, which quietly transfers the cost from the fee to the schoolwork. That trade is worth making consciously rather than by default.

07

Permits, premises and the questions worth asking

  • Individual tutors: MoHRE private tuition permit, free, two years, two working days
  • Centres with premises: KHDA Educational Services Permit, renewed annually
  • No published fine schedule exists for tutoring without a permit
  • A teacher tutoring their own enrolled students is the arrangement to decline
  • IB Gram holds no regulator permit and claims none anywhere on this site

The legal position is clear enough to check in a single message. An individual giving private lessons in the UAE needs the MoHRE private tuition work permit, introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023 and granted free of charge for two years. Eligible applicants include teachers registered in government or private schools, government and private sector employees, unemployed individuals, school students aged 15 to 18 and university students.

MoHRE's own service listing is titled Issuance of a New Work Permit - Private Tutor Licensing, shows no fees and a two-working-day completion time, and is applied for through the MoHRE smart app, website and e-services system. Individuals offering private tutoring without a permit are subject to fines and penalties outlined in the applicable laws. No fine schedule is published, so any amount quoted as the penalty is unverified.

A tutoring operation with premises and staff in Dubai is a different matter: it needs a KHDA Educational Services Permit for a training institute, with initial approval first, a maximum of six months to complete the permit and licence steps, and annual renewal requested at least 30 days before expiry. IB Gram has no premises in the UAE, holds no such permit, and does not describe itself or its tutors using any regulator's name.

One arrangement to refuse: Abu Dhabi's professional-ethics rules bar private and charter school staff from paid private tutoring of students enrolled at their own school, and the permit's code of conduct carries a similar bar. A maths teacher offering to tutor your own child privately is the first case to ask about directly.

08

The five subjects that count, and why maths is usually one of them

  • Five accredited IGCSE subjects at grade E or 3 or above, plus A Level at E or two AS Levels
  • Arabic and Islamic education are excluded from the five
  • American track: SAT Math 450, plus IELTS 5, TOEFL iBT 61 or SAT 450 reading and writing
  • No IB points figure should be published without a Ministry source
  • Equivalency is a Ministry process; no tutor performs, guarantees or is required for it

Beyond the grade, an IGCSE timetable has a second function for families who may stay in the UAE: satisfying Ministry of Education equivalency for a later university application. On the British track, a student must show five accredited subjects in GCSE or IGCSE certificates at no less than grade E or grade 3, together with one accredited subject at Advanced Level at no less than E or two at Advanced Subsidiary Level at the same grade.

Arabic and Islamic education are not included among the five required subjects, which is the detail that leaves families short when they assumed otherwise. Mathematics is nearly always one of the five in practice, both because it is compulsory at most schools and because degree programmes that specify a subject usually specify it.

On the American track the requirements differ, with English proficiency shown by an IELTS academic score of 5, a TOEFL iBT score of 61, or 450 in the SAT reading and writing section, and mathematics by at least 450 in the SAT Math test. For the IB, no points threshold should be taken from any tutoring page without being read on the Ministry's own site.

IB Gram does not perform equivalency or attestation, does not guarantee any outcome from it, and does not suggest that tutoring is required for it. The process belongs to the Ministry and the emirate authority, and their official channels are the place to verify every detail of it.

Where we tutor

Nearby areas we cover around Mudon

Board usage and school proximity vary noticeably across this belt, which is why the same question gets a different practical answer in each community.

Remraam

South View School on the community edge, making it the shortest school run in the group and the easiest place in Dubailand to use local help if timings happen to suit.

DAMAC Hills

Jebel Ali School inside the community and taking students through Year 11, so families here face the least travel of any community in the belt.

Arabian Ranches 3

Across Al Qudra Road from Mudon and the same outward run. Maths requests here are mostly Year 10, reflecting a younger population.

Arabian Ranches 2

Ranches Primary School and Jumeirah English Speaking School. The established cluster, and where most tier-change conversations in this belt seem to originate.

Motor City

GEMS Metropole School and the densest concentration of maths tutors advertising to Dubailand, most of them working to IGCSE rather than Diploma level.

Dubai Sports City

GEMS United School and Victory Heights Primary. Afternoon congestion around the stadium district makes any travelling arrangement unreliable between four and six.

Town Square

The longest run in the group, which pushes a workable session later into the evening and makes an online slot the only practical option on a school night.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Get the maths entry in writing

Ask the school for subject, board, code and tier. In this belt the answer varies between schools and sometimes between subjects at one school, and everything that follows depends on it. One message, and the past papers a tutor sets are the right ones from the first session.

  2. 02

    Send one marked paper

A marked mock or past paper separates early rounding, unshown method, timing collapse, misreading and genuine content absence. Those have repair times ranging from a fortnight to several months, and the paper is the only thing that tells you which you are facing.

  3. 03

Decide the phase, then the format

Year 10 ceiling building, Year 11 paper work and a summer bridging block are three different products. Which one fits depends on where the student is in the course and what the marked paper showed, not on how worried anyone feels.

  4. 04

Free trial lesson with a maths tutor

A trial over live video at no cost and before any payment, with the student doing most of the work. The test afterwards is whether the tutor identified something specific about how the marks are being lost. If not, ask for a different tutor at no charge.

  5. 05

Fix the slot, review against the entry dates

Sessions sit on Gulf Standard Time around the school run, and can move within the evening or after Iftar during Ramadan at no cost because nobody travels. The plan is checked every few weeks against mocks, the entry deadline and the series itself.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

Board and tier are confirmed before anything is taught

Cambridge 0580 and Pearson 4MA1 train different habits about shown working, and the tier caps the grade before the paper is sat. Both are checkable in one message to the school, and both are where the grade is actually constrained.

Past papers always match the entry

The most common waste in self-directed revision in this city is practising the other board's papers. A student learns to expect questions that will not appear and to write less method than the scheme wants. It is free to prevent and expensive to ignore.

Losses are classified before they are treated

Early rounding, unshown method, timing collapse, misreading and content absence have repair times from a fortnight to several months. Treating all five as one problem called revision is why many tutoring arrangements produce nothing.

The travel is removed from both sides

A group class in Motor City costs most of a Mudon evening, and a visiting tutor prices the Al Qudra Road drive inside the hourly rate. An online session starts when the student sits down, which is also why a late bus does not cost a lesson.

Every figure carries its source

The AED bands on this page are attributed to the providers and cost table that published them. Nothing here is an IB Gram price list, and no statistic about our own students appears, because a reader could not verify one.

No regulator names used as credentials

IB Gram is an independent tutor-matching platform with no KHDA permit, no ADEK registration, no board affiliation and no UAE office. Where a page in this market attaches a regulator's name to its tutors, that is a claim to check rather than a qualification.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Mudon: your questions answered

Which maths board do schools near Mudon actually use?+

It varies, and that is the point of asking rather than assuming. The schools most Mudon students attend run British curriculum through Year 11, and some use Cambridge 0580 while others use Pearson Edexcel 4MA1, with a few using different boards for different subjects. Ask the school for the entry in writing: subject, board, code and tier. It takes one message and it determines which past papers are useful. Practising the wrong board's papers is the most common avoidable error in self-directed revision in this city.

Can a Core entry still produce a top IGCSE maths grade?+

No. Cambridge Core and Pearson Foundation cap the available grade in the middle of the scale, because the paper does not contain the questions that earn more. A student entered for the lower tier who performs flawlessly still receives a capped grade. That is why the tier decision matters more than almost any amount of revision, and why it should be discussed with the school in the autumn term of Year 10 rather than in the spring of Year 11, when the entry is already lodged.

How do we argue for a tier change with the school?+

With evidence and early. Schools place conservatively for a defensible reason: a student who sits the higher tier and cannot access the harder questions can end up worse off. The judgement is made on attainment at a moment in time, usually late in Year 10, and students change afterwards. Bring improved work on the harder topics, in writing, before the entry deadline. Three questions settle the process: which tier is my child entered for, what evidence would change that, and what is the last date for an amendment.

My daughter rounds early and keeps losing final-answer marks. Fixable?+

Quickly, yes. Early rounding is a habit rather than a knowledge gap: an intermediate value is rounded, carried forward, and the final answer falls outside the accepted range. The repair is mechanical. Require full calculator precision until the final line, write the unrounded value down at each stage, and round only once at the end to the accuracy the question asks for. Two weeks of short timed sets with that one rule enforced usually settles it, and the marks recovered are marks she had already earned.

Why does she get the right answer and still lose marks?+

Because multi-step questions award method marks along the way and an answer alone collects none of them. Written working is also what rescues a question when the arithmetic goes wrong, since consequential marks can follow a correct method to a wrong value. The repair is for her to mark her own scripts against the published scheme until she sees exactly where the marks sat. Three or four sessions of that usually makes the habit automatic, and it is the single most transferable thing a maths tutor can teach.

Is a group maths class in Motor City worth the drive from Mudon?+

Only if it matches the code and the tier. A group works well when everyone in the room sits the same paper with roughly the same gap, which happens most often in spring-term maths revision. Dubailand groups usually mix Cambridge and Pearson students at two tiers, which forces the teacher to teach content rather than paper technique. Then count the evening: a ninety-minute class at peak time costs a Year 11 most of the night from Mudon, against a video session that starts at half past four.

What is the honest jump from IGCSE maths to Diploma Higher Level?+

Large, and larger in independence than in content. Analysis and Approaches at Higher Level expects non-calculator fluency, comfort with proof and a willingness to work without being set exercises. Students who reached a strong IGCSE grade with a calculator always to hand find Paper 1 brutal, and they usually discover it in the first mock rather than in September. Six to eight sessions across the summer on manipulation, exact values and notation makes the first term survivable, and that block has to be booked before results arrive.

Which is the better next step, A Level maths or IB Applications?+

It depends on the student and on where they intend to apply. A Level mathematics is narrower and deeper, unforgiving about algebraic fluency. Applications and Interpretation is broader, assumes technology throughout and rewards written interpretation, and at Higher Level it is not the soft option it is assumed to be. Ask the intended sixth form for its published entry thresholds before results, since schools set these rather than boards, and read any university requirement from the institution's own published entry profile.

How many sessions a week does Year 11 maths need from January?+

One to begin with, moving to two if the marked papers justify it. The limiting factor during term is practice time between sessions rather than input, and a second hour that leaves no time to work on the first is wasted. From about March, two sessions a week built on timed papers is a reasonable ceiling. Where a student needs more than that, the issue is usually content absence rather than technique, and the honest conversation is about which topics carry enough marks to be worth the remaining weeks.

Do you teach Additional Mathematics alongside the main course?+

Where the school offers it and a tutor covers it, yes, and coverage for it is thinner than for the main syllabus in any market. That is disclosed when a request arrives rather than discovered after a booking. Additional Mathematics is usually taken as preparation for A Level and it makes the summer bridging block considerably easier, so students doing it are generally in a stronger position for Year 12 than their main-course grade alone suggests. Tell us the school and the course title when you enquire.

Does maths count towards the UAE equivalency subject total?+

In practice almost always, and it is usually compulsory at the school anyway. Ministry of Education equivalency on the British track asks for five accredited subjects in GCSE or IGCSE certificates at no less than grade E or grade 3, plus one Advanced Level subject at E or two Advanced Subsidiary subjects at the same grade. Arabic and Islamic education are not counted among the five. One ranking page states six subjects are needed; the published rule is five. IB Gram does not perform equivalency, and the Ministry's channels are where to verify it.

What does a marked script tell a tutor that a report card does not?+

Where the marks went, which is the only information a plan can be built on. A report gives a grade and a comment about effort. A script separates early rounding from unshown method, timing collapse from misreading, and scattered small losses from whole questions untouched. Those five patterns have repair times running from a fortnight to several months, and they look identical to a student. Sending one marked paper before the trial lesson means the first hour is spent working rather than discovering what is wrong.

Can lessons fit around a long school run from Dubailand?+

That is most of the reason this format suits the belt. Sessions sit on Gulf Standard Time and start when the student sits down, so a 4.30pm slot works for someone home early and after 8pm works where both parents commute. Because nobody is driving to Al Salam or Arabella, a late bus does not cost the lesson and the slot can move within the evening. During Ramadan, slots after Iftar can be arranged week by week at no additional cost.

Will a tutor use the school's own textbook and worksheets?+

Where it helps, yes, alongside past papers from the entered code. The school's materials show the order topics are being taught in and the notation the class uses, which keeps sessions from contradicting the classroom. What a tutor will not do is circulate board material: Cambridge and Pearson syllabus documents, past papers, mark schemes and grade-boundary tables belong to their publishers, and sessions reference the official pages and link to them rather than distributing copies. Nobody has access to unreleased papers whatever is claimed elsewhere.

Confirm the code and tier, then test one lesson

Two messages change an IGCSE maths year from Mudon. The first goes to the school and asks for board, code and tier in writing. The second comes here with that information and one marked paper attached, and a free trial lesson over live video is arranged before any payment is taken. The plan that comes back will name the losses it intends to fix and how long each should take, rather than offering an open-ended weekly hour. Lessons are delivered online; home visits are a service IB Gram offers in India only.
