IGCSE Tutor near me in Mudon

The phrase IGCSE tutor near me in Mudon usually produces five different kinds of answer: a tuition centre in Motor City, a freelancer advertising in a community group, an agency with a call centre, a marketplace listing, and an online platform. They are not variations on one product. This page compares them on rate, replacement policy, permit position and board coverage, and then explains why a Mudon address changes the arithmetic. Lessons here are one-to-one over live video; IB Gram does not visit UAE homes.

IB & IGCSE in Mudon

Five kinds of answer to one search, compared properly

Search for an IGCSE tutor near Mudon and the results mix business models that have almost nothing in common. A tuition centre sells group classes on its own premises at its own times. A freelancer sells their own hours and nothing else. An agency sells a match and takes a margin. A marketplace sells access to a list and leaves the vetting to you. An online platform sells a scheduled one-to-one lesson. The rates differ, but so does what happens when a tutor stops answering messages.

That last point is the one families discover late. A freelancer who leaves Dubai mid-year takes the arrangement with them. A centre will move your child to another teacher, not necessarily one who knows the board. An agency with a replacement policy will find someone else, and the quality of that policy is worth more than twenty dirhams an hour on the headline rate. None of this appears in a search result, which is why this page puts it in a table instead.

Mudon adds a second variable. The community sits off Al Qudra Road in Dubailand, villas and townhouses across Al Salam, Rahat, Arabella, Naseem and Mudon Views, with no secondary school inside its own boundary. Students travel to Jebel Ali School in DAMAC Hills, GEMS Metropole in Motor City, South View School towards Remraam, or further along Al Khail Road. Any model that requires somebody to travel therefore prices in a drive, and any model that requires the family to travel costs an evening.

The third variable is the board. Cambridge and Pearson Edexcel International GCSE are different qualifications with different codes, different paper structures and different mark-scheme conventions, and Dubailand schools do not all use one board across the whole timetable. A tutor who is strong on Cambridge 0580 Mathematics is not automatically the right choice for Pearson 4MA1, and practice from the wrong board teaches habits that cost marks.

IB Gram sits in one of the five columns and says so: an online one-to-one model, scheduled on Gulf Standard Time, with the tutor chosen by board and paper rather than by proximity. Home visits are a service IB Gram offers in India only. The comparison tables below are written to be checkable rather than flattering, and every AED figure in them is attributed to whoever published it.

A note on how to use the tables. Read them before you contact anybody, including us, because the point of publishing them is to make the choice checkable rather than persuasive. If a provider's answers do not match the column they belong in, that is information. If the rate they quote sits outside every band published in this market, ask what it includes. Families in this belt who do this once rarely have to do it again, because the questions transfer to every subject and every year.

At a glance

  • Five provider models answer this search and they differ most in what happens when a match fails
  • Mudon has no secondary school inside the community, so travel is priced into any visiting model
  • Cambridge and Pearson Edexcel codes must be confirmed per subject, not assumed across a timetable
  • The MoHRE private tuition permit is free, valid two years, and issued in a stated two working days
  • Published market rates range from AED 33 an hour to AED 650 an hour in this city

Before comparing providers, it helps to be precise about what is being tutored. International GCSE in Dubai means one of two boards and, in several subjects, one of two tiers.

CAIEAges 14-16 · Years 10-11

Cambridge International GCSE

Linear two-year courses with Core and Extended tiers in several subjects. Core caps in the middle of the grade scale; Extended reaches the top. Codes are public and worth quoting when you ask for help: 0580 Mathematics, 0625 Physics, 0620 Chemistry, 0610 Biology, 0500 First Language English.

Cambridge allocates every centre to one of six administrative zones and states that the correct zone timetable must be used, warning that it cannot accept responsibility for candidates who miss an exam after using the wrong one. A Mudon family should ask their school which zone it sits in rather than relying on a timetable shared in a community group.

PEARSONAges 14-16 · Years 10-11

Pearson Edexcel International GCSE

Codes include 4MA1 Mathematics, 4PH1 Physics, 4CH1 Chemistry, 4BI1 Biology and 4EA1 English Language A, with Mathematics tiered Foundation and Higher. Some subjects are available in linear or modular patterns depending on the centre, which changes when a result can be banked.

Pearson International GCSE exams run in May and June and again in November. As a dated example, the November 2026 final timetable ran from late October to 19 November 2026, June 2026 results went to centres on 19 August 2026, and November 2025 results reached students on 22 January 2026. Provisional timetables can be revised, so the official PDF is the only safe reference.

What IGCSE grades decide next

Sixth-form entry thresholds are set by schools, not boards, and differ between an A Level route and an IB Diploma route. A student aiming at a Higher Level science or an A Level in the same subject generally needs a strong Extended or Higher tier grade, and the step up in expected independence is larger than the grade suggests.

For UAE university applications later, Ministry of Education equivalency on the British track asks for five accredited subjects at no less than grade E or grade 3, with Arabic and Islamic education not counted among the five, plus one Advanced Level subject at E or two Advanced Subsidiary subjects at the same grade.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

These are the International GCSE subjects requested most often from this part of Dubailand, with the detail that decides which board a tutor needs to know.

Mathematics

0580 Core and Extended; 4MA1 Foundation and Higher

The two boards diverge most here. Cambridge Extended and Pearson Higher cover similar content with different question styles and different expectations about working shown. Marks go missing to early rounding and to unshown method on multi-step problems.

Physics

0625 and 4PH1

Electricity, electromagnetism and waves carry the heaviest losses. Cambridge and Pearson differ in how practical skills are examined, so the paper a student practises has to match the entry. Explanations without a causal link cost marks that the content knowledge earned.

Chemistry

0620 and 4CH1

Moles, electrolysis, rates and organic chemistry. State symbols are the recurring cheap loss, followed by unbalanced equations. Qualitative analysis questions are reliably available marks that students leave on the table.

Biology

0610 and 4BI1

Long-answer questions reward sequence and correct terminology. Describing transport without water potential or respiration without naming products loses marks regardless of understanding. Graph and data questions reward reading the axes first.

Combined and Double Award Science

Cambridge and Pearson routes

The compressed science route used by several Dubailand schools. Less content than three separate sciences, but fewer questions means a single weak topic has nowhere to hide, which changes revision priorities.

English Language

0500 and 4EA1

Directed writing and reading responses. Register and audience matter as much as vocabulary: a task asking for a speech that receives an essay loses marks that strong writing cannot recover.

Business Studies

IGCSE

Case-study papers where definitions earn a mark and application to the named business earns the rest. Students who learn the theory and never practise applying it to stimulus material plateau at a predictable grade.

Economics

IGCSE

Diagram accuracy and precise terminology. An unlabelled axis or a curve moved without explanation costs marks mechanically, which makes it one of the easiest subjects to improve with drilling.

Computer Science

IGCSE

Pseudocode in the board's expected form, trace tables and data representation. Students who code confidently in Python still lose marks writing pseudocode loosely, and trace tables reward slow mechanical working.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Within the online model there are still three distinct products, and picking the wrong one wastes money more reliably than picking the wrong tutor.

Single-subject weekly

One hour a week on one subject with one tutor, running alongside the school's scheme of work. The right default for a Year 10 building towards an Extended or Higher tier entry, where the work is cumulative rather than urgent.

  • Tracks the school's own topic order
  • Board and code fixed at the start and never mixed
  • Weekly notes naming topic and next target
  • Tier readiness reviewed before entries are lodged

Multi-subject split week

Two or three shorter sessions across different subjects, usually sciences, where a student is behind in more than one place. Needs honest triage, because splitting an hour three ways helps nobody.

  • Subjects prioritised by available marks, not by anxiety
  • Different tutors where the boards or levels differ
  • One shared review conversation with the parent
  • Dropped back to one subject as soon as it is sensible

Short pre-series block

Two sessions a week for six to eight weeks before a series, built on timed papers and marked scripts. Not for closing content gaps; for converting what the student knows into marks they currently lose.

  • Timed questions in every session
  • Scripts marked against the published scheme
  • Error pattern named and retested fortnightly
  • Slots after Iftar during Ramadan where families prefer

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Mudon

01

The five provider models, compared on what matters

Rate is the first thing families compare and the least useful. What separates these models is cover, accountability and board knowledge. A tuition centre has premises and staff, which in Dubai means it operates under a KHDA Educational Services Permit for a training institute, obtained through initial approval and renewed annually. A freelance tutor needs the MoHRE private tuition work permit instead. A marketplace usually holds neither, because it is not the one teaching.

Cover is where the models diverge hardest. If a freelancer's visa situation changes in March of Year 11, there is no replacement built into the arrangement. A centre will reassign a teacher, who may not know your child's board. An agency or platform with a stated replacement policy will propose someone else and the clock barely stops. Ask every provider the same question: what happens if this tutor becomes unavailable six weeks before the papers.

Board knowledge is the second differentiator and the least visible. A centre running a group class has to teach to a common denominator, which in a mixed Cambridge and Pearson room means teaching content rather than papers. A one-to-one arrangement can work the exact code the student is entered for. For Mathematics and the sciences, where paper structure drives technique, that difference shows up in marks.

The table below compares the five models on the terms a Mudon family can actually verify before paying anything.

One more column that never appears in a search result: who employs the tutor. In a marketplace nobody does, which means the vetting and the recourse are both yours. In a centre the teacher is staff, so the institution carries the responsibility but also sets the group size. In a managed match the platform stands between you and the individual, which is what a replacement policy actually means in practice.

02

Cambridge or Pearson Edexcel: the same subject, different paper

Parents often treat IGCSE as a single qualification, and schools rarely correct the impression because it does not matter for day-to-day teaching. For tutoring it matters a great deal. Cambridge 0580 Mathematics and Pearson 4MA1 cover overlapping content with different paper counts, different tier names, different question phrasing and different conventions about what has to be written down to earn method marks.

The practical consequence is that past papers are not interchangeable. A student entered for 4PH1 who spends eight weeks on 0625 papers practises the wrong structure and learns to expect questions that will not appear. The reverse is equally true. This is the single most common avoidable error in self-directed revision in this city, and it is free to prevent: look at the front of any past paper the student has been given and check the code against their entry.

Tiering also differs in name and in effect. Cambridge uses Core and Extended in several subjects; Pearson Mathematics uses Foundation and Higher. In both cases the entry caps the grade, and in both cases the decision is usually made by the school late in Year 10 on the strength of existing work. A student who wants a science A Level needs the higher tier and needs the conversation early.

Ask your school for a written list: subject, board, code, tier. One message, and every subsequent revision decision gets easier.

There is a smaller difference worth knowing about: modular availability. Some Pearson subjects can be sat in a pattern that lets a student bank a result earlier, depending on what the centre offers, while Cambridge International GCSE is linear. That changes when revision pressure peaks across a two-year course, and it is a question for the school rather than for a tutor.

What a Mudon address actually changes

Proximity has a cash value and it is not the same for every community in Dubailand. A family in DAMAC Hills with Jebel Ali School inside the gates can plausibly use a local freelancer and a centre class, because both are close. A family in Remraam has South View School on the edge of the community and similar options. Mudon sits further from both the schools and the tuition centres, which means every travel-based model costs either money or an evening.

Count the evening rather than the dirhams. A Year 11 home at four, a centre class at six in Motor City, twenty minutes each way plus parking, and the student is back at eight having spent four hours on a ninety-minute class in a group of eight. The same ninety minutes one-to-one at home over video starts at 4.30pm and the evening still contains homework and dinner. For a household running two children on two timetables, that is the whole argument.

The visiting-tutor model inverts the problem: the family keeps the evening and pays for the drive. In-home visits in Dubai are quoted at roughly AED 180 to 500 an hour with travel inside the price, Bestimate's range being AED 180 to 350 and independent home tutors advertising AED 200 to 500. From Mudon that loading sits at the upper end, because the tutor pool is concentrated around Motor City and Dubai Sports City rather than in Dubailand itself.

IB Gram removes the travel from both sides. Lessons arrive over live video on Gulf Standard Time, and home visits remain a service IB Gram offers in India only.

Questions that separate a good provider from a plausible one

  • Which papers, by code, has this tutor marked?
  • Does the tutor hold the MoHRE private tuition work permit?
  • What happens if the tutor becomes unavailable six weeks before the series?
  • What will the tutor refuse to do with a coursework draft?
  • Is the quoted rate per hour or per lesson, and does it include travel?

Every provider in this market will say the tutors are experienced and the approach is personalised. Those sentences carry no information. What separates them is answerable, specific questions, and a provider who cannot answer them quickly is telling you something.

Ask which papers the tutor has actually marked, by code. Ask whether the tutor holds the MoHRE private tuition work permit, which is granted free of charge for two years under Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023 and whose MoHRE service listing shows no fee and a two-working-day completion time. Ask what happens if the tutor becomes unavailable in the final term. Ask whether the first lesson is free and whether payment is taken before it.

Then ask two questions about honesty. What will the tutor do with a coursework draft, and what will they refuse to do. A provider who answers that a tutor gives criterion feedback on the student's own writing and will not draft, rewrite or supply text is describing the correct boundary. A provider who offers to handle it, or who sells completed work, is describing something that can cost a student their qualification.

Finally, ask for a rate with its basis: per hour or per lesson, what the lesson length is, and whether any quoted figure includes travel. In a market where published rates run from AED 33 to AED 650 an hour, an unexplained number is not a price.

Write the answers down. Four providers contacted on the same day will give four different answers to the permit question alone, and the differences are easier to see on paper than in memory. Families who keep a short comparison note also find it useful a year later, when a sibling reaches Year 10 and the whole exercise would otherwise start again from nothing.

05

Group classes against one-to-one, honestly

  • Group classes work where the whole room sits the same paper with the same gap
  • Mixed-board groups get taught content because papers cannot be taught to both at once
  • One-to-one sets pace and paper by the student and can change mid-session
  • Accurate diagnosis reduces the number of hours, which narrows the monthly difference

Group tuition is cheaper per student and it is genuinely better in one situation: a cohort sitting the same paper from the same board with the same gap, working through past questions together with a teacher who can run the room. IGCSE Mathematics revision in the spring term fits that description often enough that dismissing group classes would be dishonest.

The problems are structural rather than pedagogical. A group has to be assembled, and in Dubailand children from one community attend five or six different schools on three different curricula, so the Cambridge and Pearson students end up in the same room. The teacher then teaches content, because papers cannot be taught to a mixed-board group. The pace is set by the median student, which means the strongest and weakest both lose time.

One-to-one inverts all of that. The pace is the student's, the paper is theirs, and a session can be rebuilt mid-hour when a marked script shows something unexpected. It costs more per hour and, where the diagnosis is accurate, fewer hours are needed, which narrows the monthly gap more than the hourly rates suggest.

The honest recommendation is sequencing rather than loyalty: a group class for broad revision if one exists at a workable time, and one-to-one for the two subjects where the marked work shows a specific repeatable loss.

There is also a social argument for groups that deserves acknowledging. Some students work harder in a room with peers and stall in a one-to-one hour, particularly in the middle of Year 10 when urgency is low. If that describes your child, a group class is the better product for that phase, and switching to one-to-one closer to the series is a sequence rather than a contradiction.

06

What the market charges, from cheapest first

  • Cheapest published online rate found in this market: AED 33 an hour (Tutopiya)
  • Highest published rate found: AED 650 an hour (BartyED)
  • In-home band carries travel inside the quote at AED 180 to 500
  • Monthly specialist exam-year band: AED 1,000 to 2,000 or more (Bestimate)
  • KHDA confirmed in May 2026 that Dubai private school fees would not rise for 2026-27

Starting at the bottom is the honest way to present rates, because that is where most searches begin. Budget online tutors and university students advertise from roughly AED 45 to 150 an hour in this market, with EdFlik publishing AED 45 to 65 and Tutopiya AED 33 to 52. For working through exercise sets with a student who is already organised, that tier is defensible value and nobody should pretend otherwise.

Above it, a qualified subject tutor working online sits at roughly AED 150 to 300, with Unitors publishing IGCSE from AED 150 and IB from AED 200. Subject specialists run AED 200 to 450 and above, with TutorChase publishing AED 270 and Bestimate's table giving AED 200 to 450 or more. At the top, premium examiner-led provision reaches AED 500 to 650, with BartyED publishing AED 650.

In-home visits occupy their own band because travel is inside the quote: roughly AED 180 to 500 an hour, with Bestimate at AED 180 to 350 and home tutors advertising AED 200 to 500. Monthly packages seen in the market include AED 799 for eight online sessions and AED 1,599 to 1,799 for four two-hour in-home sessions, while Bestimate's monthly estimates for a weekly hour run AED 240 to 600 budget, AED 600 to 1,200 mid and AED 1,000 to 2,000 or more specialist.

Three of the six most visible pages in this market publish no price at all, and the two that do quote in US dollars. Publishing AED figures with their sources is not generosity; it is the minimum a parent needs to compare anything.

07

Permits, premises and what each provider legally is

  • Individual tutors: MoHRE private tuition permit, free, two years, two working days
  • Centres with premises: KHDA Educational Services Permit, annual renewal 30 days ahead
  • No published fine schedule exists for unpermitted tutoring
  • A teacher tutoring their own enrolled students is the arrangement to refuse
  • IB Gram holds no KHDA permit and no regulator registration, and claims none

The legal shape of a tutoring arrangement in the UAE is clearer than most pages admit. An individual giving private lessons needs the MoHRE private tuition work permit, introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023. It is granted free of charge for two years. Eligible applicants include teachers registered in government or private schools, employees in the government and private sectors, unemployed individuals, school students aged 15 to 18 and university students.

MoHRE's own service listing is titled Issuance of a New Work Permit - Private Tutor Licensing, shows no fees and a two-working-day completion time, and is applied for through the MoHRE smart app, website and e-services system. Individuals offering private tutoring without a permit are subject to fines and penalties outlined in the applicable laws. No fine schedule is published, so any figure quoted to you as the penalty is unverified and should be treated as such.

A tutoring operation with premises and staff in Dubai is a different legal animal. It requires a KHDA Educational Services Permit for a training institute, with initial approval first, a maximum of six months to complete the permit and licence steps, and annual renewal requested at least 30 days before expiry. That is a specific authorisation issued to specific institutions, and no platform without premises should describe itself using it.

There is one arrangement to decline outright. Abu Dhabi's professional-ethics rules bar private and charter school staff from paid private tutoring of students enrolled at their own school, and the permit's code of conduct carries a similar bar. If a teacher offers to tutor your child privately, that is the first question to ask them.

08

What a coursework boundary looks like in practice

  • Permitted: content teaching, criterion explanation, approach critique, marking the student's own draft
  • Prohibited: writing, drafting, completing, editing to completion or supplying text
  • After a legitimate session the student has decisions to make, not a better document
  • Official board material is referenced and linked, never redistributed

International GCSE carries less internally assessed work than the IB Diploma, but where a centre runs coursework or a practical write-up, the rule is identical: the work is the student's and must be authenticated as such. A provider's position on this is the clearest single signal of how it operates, because the temptation is real and one provider in this market has monetised it openly.

What a tutor may legitimately do is teach the subject content, explain what the assessment criteria reward, ask the questions the criteria imply, critique an approach that will not work, and mark a draft the student has written against published descriptors. That is teaching, it is useful, and it leaves a student better able to do the next piece unaided.

What a tutor may not do is write, complete, produce, draft or edit the work to completion, or supply text for adaptation. The distinction is not subtle in practice: after a legitimate session the student has a list of decisions to make, and after an illegitimate one they have a better document they did not write.

Board material carries its own boundary. Cambridge and Pearson syllabus documents, past papers, mark schemes and grade-boundary tables belong to their publishers; sessions reference and link to the official pages rather than distributing copies, and nobody has access to unreleased material whatever is claimed.

Say it out loud to the student as well as the provider. Offers of completed work circulate in student groups more than in parent groups, and a teenager who has been told clearly why an unauthenticated document is worthless is better protected than one who has only been told to work hard. The consequence is not a lower mark; it is a qualification put at risk.

Where we tutor

Nearby areas we cover around Mudon

Proximity to an IGCSE school varies sharply across this belt, and that is the single biggest difference between these communities for a Year 10 or Year 11 family.

Remraam

South View School sits on its edge, which makes Remraam the closest thing in this belt to having an IGCSE school on the doorstep. Apartment living and a different price bracket from Mudon's villas.

DAMAC Hills

Jebel Ali School is inside the community and takes students through Year 11, so families here have the shortest school run of the group and the least need for evening travel.

Motor City

GEMS Metropole School plus the densest concentration of tuition centres and freelance tutors serving Dubailand. Convenient if you are willing to travel to them.

Arabian Ranches 3

Across Al Qudra Road from Mudon, with the same outward school run and the same absence of a secondary school inside the gates.

Arabian Ranches 2

Ranches Primary School and Jumeirah English Speaking School. The established end of the belt and the convergence point for the morning run.

Town Square

The longest journey of the group in both directions, which makes any travel-based tutoring model expensive in time even where the rate looks reasonable.

Dubai Sports City

Victory Heights Primary and GEMS United School. Stadium-district traffic between four and six makes arrival times unpredictable for anyone driving in.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Get the board list in writing from school

Ask for subject, board, code and tier for every IGCSE entry. One message to the school, and every revision decision afterwards becomes concrete. It also prevents the most common waste in this market, which is eight weeks of past papers from the wrong board.

  2. 02

Decide which model you are actually buying

Centre class, freelancer, agency match, marketplace listing or online one-to-one are different products with different failure modes. The comparison table on this page is there to be used before you contact anybody, including us.

  3. 03

Send one marked script and the codes

A marked past paper or mock, plus the syllabus codes, is enough to propose something specific. Without them any proposal is generic, and a generic proposal is how families end up paying for hours that were never aimed at the actual loss.

  4. 04

Use the free trial as the test

A trial lesson over live video at no cost, before any payment, with the student doing most of the talking. The question afterwards is simple: did the tutor identify something specific about how the marks are being lost. If not, ask for a different tutor.

  5. 05

Fix the slot and review monthly

Sessions sit on Gulf Standard Time around the school run, and because nobody is driving they can move within the evening or shift after Iftar during Ramadan at no cost. The plan is reviewed against the school's deadlines every few weeks rather than running unchanged to the series.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

The comparison is published, not implied

Most providers in this market compare themselves to an unnamed alternative. This page names five models, including its own, and compares them on rate, permit position, cover and board specificity, with every rate attributed to whoever published it.

Board and code are fixed before the first session

Cambridge 0580 and Pearson 4MA1 are different papers with different conventions. Confirming the code per subject costs one message and prevents the single most common revision error in Dubai.

No travel in the price and none in the evening

From Mudon, a centre class costs most of an evening and a visiting tutor costs a travel loading inside the hourly rate. An online session starts when the student sits down, which is why the slot can move when a bus runs late.

The permit question is answered, not dodged

Individual tutors need the MoHRE private tuition permit; centres with premises need a KHDA Educational Services Permit. IB Gram holds no regulator permit and says so, rather than attaching a regulator's name to its tutors as several competing pages do.

Coursework help has a stated limit

Criterion explanation and feedback on the student's own draft are teaching. Writing, drafting and editing to completion are not, and are refused. One provider in this market sells completed assessed work outright, which is the thing this boundary exists to rule out.

Coverage limits are disclosed before you pay

Some subject and board combinations have thin availability, and you are told with a timescale rather than matched to a generalist. The free trial exists so the match is tested before money moves rather than after.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Mudon: your questions answered

Is there an IGCSE tuition centre inside Mudon itself?+

Not a secondary tuition centre serving IGCSE in the way families ask about. The centres advertising to Dubailand are mostly based around Motor City, Dubai Sports City and Al Barsha South, which means a round trip at peak time for a ninety-minute group class. The practical cost is the evening rather than the fee: a Year 11 home at four can lose four hours to a class that lasted ninety minutes. IB Gram's alternative is a one-to-one lesson over live video that starts when the student sits down, with no travel on either side.

Which is better value, a centre class or a one-to-one session?+

A centre class is cheaper per hour and is genuinely good where the whole room sits the same paper from the same board with the same gap, which happens most often in spring-term Mathematics revision. Where the room mixes Cambridge and Pearson students, the teacher has to teach content rather than papers, and the pace follows the median student. One-to-one costs more per hour, works the exact code the student is entered for, and usually needs fewer hours, which narrows the monthly difference more than the headline rates suggest.

How do I check whether a freelance tutor in Dubai is permitted to teach?+

Ask them directly whether they hold the MoHRE private tuition work permit. It was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, is granted free of charge for two years, and covers registered school teachers, government and private sector employees, unemployed residents, university students and school students aged 15 to 18. MoHRE's own service listing shows no fee and a two-working-day completion time, so there is no cost reason for a tutor not to hold one. Anyone tutoring without it is subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws.

Should a Mudon family care which of the two IGCSE boards their school uses?+

Not for the quality of the qualification, but enormously for tutoring. Cambridge 0580 Mathematics and Pearson 4MA1 cover overlapping content with different paper counts, tier names, question phrasing and conventions about the working that earns method marks. Practice from the wrong board teaches a student to expect questions that will not appear. Check the code on the front of any past paper against the school's entry list. Several Dubailand schools use different boards for different subjects, so one answer for the whole timetable is usually wrong.

What happens if our tutor leaves Dubai halfway through Year 11?+

Ask every provider this before you commit, because the answers differ sharply. A freelance arrangement simply ends, which is the single biggest risk in the cheapest tier. A centre reassigns a teacher who may not know the board. With IB Gram a replacement tutor is proposed and a free trial lesson applies again, so you are not paying to discover whether the new match works. The question is worth asking in writing rather than verbally, because the answer tells you what you are actually buying.

Are marketplace listings with US dollar prices a problem for a UAE family?+

They are a sign to read carefully. Two of the most visible pages in this market quote in US dollars, a currency UAE families do not transact in, and some route enquiries to non-UAE phone numbers. Neither is illegal, but both make comparison harder and both suggest the page was not written for this market. Ask for a rate in AED, per hour or per lesson, with the lesson length stated and travel either included or excluded explicitly. In a market where published rates run from AED 33 to AED 650, an unexplained number is not a price.

Can one tutor take both Physics and Chemistry for a Year 11?+

Often yes at IGCSE level, and it has advantages: shared calculation technique, shared graph skills and one review conversation instead of two. The question to ask is which papers they have marked in each subject rather than whether they can cover both. Where the two subjects sit with different boards, which happens in this belt, confirm that the tutor is comfortable with both sets of conventions. If the honest answer is that one subject is a stretch, two tutors is the better arrangement and costs the same per hour.

We are already in the spring term of Year 11. Is starting now worth it?+

Not too late, but it changes what is possible. With a term to go, technique moves: working shown, timing, command-term reading, equations balanced with state symbols, graphs drawn as the question specified. Those are habits and they respond to drilling. Rebuilding two years of absent foundations does not happen in a term, and a provider who says otherwise is selling. The way to tell which situation you are in is a marked mock script, which separates scattered small losses from whole questions abandoned.

Do group classes exist for Pearson Edexcel specifically in this area?+

They exist but they are harder to find than Cambridge groups, because Cambridge is more widely used across Dubai schools and a centre fills a Cambridge room faster. That is precisely why mixed-board groups form: the centre needs the numbers. If your child sits Pearson and the only available group is mixed, you are paying for content teaching rather than paper technique. Ask the centre directly which codes the room is working from, and treat a vague answer as the answer.

How many subjects is it sensible to tutor at once from Mudon?+

Fewer than most families start with. Three subjects at one hour each is three hours of input and three sets of homework, which usually means none of them gets practised properly between sessions. The better sequence is one or two subjects chosen by where the marked scripts show the largest recoverable loss, run properly, then reassessed. Splitting one hour across three subjects helps nobody. Where a student genuinely needs several, a split week with clear priorities works, but it should be a deliberate choice rather than a default.

Does a tuition centre in Dubai need its own licence?+

Yes, and it is a different authorisation from a tutor's permit. A tutoring operation with premises and staff needs a KHDA Educational Services Permit for a training institute, with initial approval first, a maximum of six months to complete the permit and licence steps, and annual renewal requested at least 30 days before expiry. That permit belongs to institutions with physical premises. IB Gram has no premises in the UAE and holds no such permit, which is why it never describes itself with a regulator's name attached.

Will a tutor help with my daughter's coursework draft?+

With her own draft, yes, as teaching and feedback. A tutor can explain what the assessment criteria reward, ask the questions the criteria imply, say that an approach will not produce what the task needs, and mark her writing against the published descriptors. A tutor must not write, draft, complete or edit the work to completion, or supply text for her to adapt. The test is simple: after a legitimate session she has a list of decisions to make, not a better document she did not write.

Are tutors in Remraam easier to find than tutors for Mudon?+

Slightly, for travel-based models, because South View School sits on the edge of Remraam and tutors who work with its students are already nearby. For Mudon the nearest school is outside the community in every direction, so a visiting tutor is driving from Motor City or Dubai Sports City and the quote reflects it. For an online arrangement the two communities are identical, because the pool is defined by subject and board rather than by distance. That is the whole reason the recommendation does not change between them.

What should the first session cover if we start now?+

A marked script, read properly. The first hour should separate four things that feel identical to a student: content never learned, technique that lost earned marks, timing collapse visible as an abandoned final page, and misreading caused by skipping a command term. Each has a different fix and a different timescale. By the end of the hour the student should be able to state their own error pattern in one sentence, and the next fortnight should be planned against it and retested. A first session that only sets homework has wasted itself.

Compare the models, then test one for free

The useful order from Mudon is: get the board, code and tier list from school; decide which provider model you are actually buying; then test one with a free trial lesson before any payment is taken. Send the codes and one marked script and the trial can be arranged with a tutor who works that board. If the lesson does not identify something specific about how the marks are being lost, ask for a different tutor. Lessons are delivered one-to-one over live video; home visits are a service IB Gram offers in India only.
