IGCSE Home Tutor in Mudon

Families looking for an IGCSE home tutor in Mudon are usually working to a date, not a vague ambition: a mock in three weeks, a coursework deadline, a June entry already lodged with the school. This page is built around that calendar. It sets out what each term has to achieve for a Year 10 or Year 11 student living off Al Qudra Road, and what eight focused weeks can realistically change. Lessons run one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time; IB Gram does not visit homes in the UAE.

IB & IGCSE in Mudon

What this term has to achieve for a Mudon Year 11

An IGCSE year has a shape, and most tutoring arrives too late in it. The autumn term decides which tier a student sits and whether the Extended paper is realistic. The spring term is where past papers either become routine or never start. The weeks immediately before the series are for error patterns, not new content. A family in Mudon reading this in the middle of that cycle needs to know which of those three phases they are in, because the right eight weeks of work looks completely different in each.

Mudon sits off Al Qudra Road in Dubailand, a villa and townhouse community with no secondary school inside its own boundaries. Students travel to Jebel Ali School in DAMAC Hills, GEMS Metropole in Motor City, South View School on the Remraam side, Ranches Primary and then onward, or further along Al Khail Road to Al Barsha South. The practical consequence for a Year 11 is a long day: home after four, homework from a school that sets plenty of it, and an evening that has to hold revision somewhere.

The exam calendar itself is simpler than parents fear, provided the right document is read. Cambridge runs its International GCSE exams in a June series and a November series. The February and March series is offered in India only, so an Indian timetable circulating in a parents' group is the wrong paper for a Dubai centre. Pearson Edexcel International GCSE runs in May and June and again in November. Cambridge allocates every centre to one of six administrative zones and states that the correct zone timetable must be used, warning that it cannot accept responsibility for candidates who miss an exam after using the wrong version.

Entry deadlines sit months ahead of the papers, and this is where families lose options rather than marks. By the time a student realises in March that a subject is going badly, the entry is lodged and the tier is fixed. Pearson's November 2026 final timetable ran from late October to 19 November 2026; June 2026 results went to centres on 19 August 2026 and to students on 20 August 2026; November 2025 results reached students on 22 January 2026. That January lag is the one to plan around if a resit is in view, because it lands in the middle of the next academic year.

IB Gram works this as online one-to-one tuition, scheduled on Gulf Standard Time, so a session can sit at 4.30pm or after 8pm depending on the evening. Home visits are a service IB Gram offers in India only, and nothing here promises a tutor at a Mudon address. What the online format buys a family on this side of Dubailand is a tutor chosen for the board and the paper rather than for the drive, and a slot that can move when a bus is late.

IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

IGCSE is not one qualification but a pair of board routes with a tiering decision inside each. Getting that structure right matters more in Year 10 than any amount of revision in Year 11.

CAIEAges 14-16 · Years 10-11

Cambridge International GCSE

Two-year linear courses assessed at the end, with Core and Extended tiers in several subjects. Core caps at grade C or 5; Extended reaches A* or 9. Subjects carry syllabus codes a parent can look up: 0580 Mathematics, 0625 Physics, 0620 Chemistry, 0610 Biology, 0500 First Language English.

Most British-curriculum schools serving Mudon run Cambridge, and the tier decision is usually made in Year 10 on the basis of Year 9 attainment. If a student is placed on Core and later wants a science A Level, that conversation needs to happen with the school early, not in the spring of Year 11.

PEARSONAges 14-16 · Years 10-11

Pearson Edexcel International GCSE

Codes run 4MA1 Mathematics, 4PH1 Physics, 4CH1 Chemistry, 4BI1 Biology, 4EA1 English Language A. Mathematics is tiered Foundation and Higher. Several subjects are available in both linear and modular patterns depending on the centre, which changes when a student can bank a result.

Some Dubailand schools run Pearson for maths and Cambridge for sciences, or offer a choice by subject. A Mudon family should confirm board and code per subject rather than assuming one board across the timetable, because the past papers a tutor sets depend entirely on that answer.

TRANSITIONAges 16+ · Year 12 entry

Year 11 into Diploma or A Level

IGCSE results decide sixth-form options, and the thresholds are school-specific. A Higher Level science in the IB Diploma or an A Level in the same subject usually expects a strong grade at Extended or Higher tier, and the gap between an IGCSE 7 and the first term of Higher Level is wider than most students expect.

Mudon students who stay in the British system and those who move to an IB Diploma school in Dubai Hills or The Sustainable City face different bridging work. Both benefit from the summer between Year 11 and Year 12 being used, which is the cheapest tutoring window in the year.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

These are the International GCSE subjects Dubailand families ask about most. Each note names what the papers test and where marks go missing, because the papers are the plan.

Mathematics (0580 / 4MA1)

Core and Extended; Foundation and Higher

Extended and Higher reach the harder algebra, trigonometry and probability. Marks go missing for unshown working on multi-step questions and for rounding too early. Past-paper routine beats topic revision from about February onwards.

Physics (0625 / 4PH1)

Core and Extended

Electricity and electromagnetism are where grades split. Students lose marks stating what happens without the because, and on practical-style questions that ask for a method a reader could repeat.

Chemistry (0620 / 4CH1)

Core and Extended

Moles calculations, electrolysis and organic chemistry. The recurring loss is in equations: unbalanced, or balanced without state symbols where the mark scheme required them. Qualitative analysis tests are easy marks routinely dropped.

Biology (0610 / 4BI1)

Core and Extended

Long-answer questions reward sequence and terminology. Describing osmosis without water potential, or respiration without naming the products, costs marks that content knowledge alone should have earned.

Combined and Coordinated Sciences

Double and single award

The compressed route many Dubai schools use. Content is narrower than three separate sciences but the paper structure is less forgiving, because one weak topic has nowhere to hide across fewer questions.

English Language (0500 / 4EA1)

First Language

Directed writing and the reading responses. Students who summarise instead of analysing, or who write in a register the task did not ask for, lose more than those with weaker vocabulary.

English Literature

IGCSE

Extract-based and essay questions on set texts. Quotation accuracy and sustained argument matter more than plot recall, and timing is the most common cause of an incomplete final answer.

Business Studies and Economics

IGCSE

Case-study papers where the marks sit in application to the named business. Definitions earn one mark; applying a concept to the stimulus material earns the rest, and that is a trainable habit.

Arabic as a second language

IGCSE

Reading, writing and oral components. Separate from the Arabic that KHDA requires every Dubai private school to teach, which runs alongside the IGCSE timetable rather than replacing it.

Computer Science and ICT

IGCSE

Pseudocode, trace tables and data representation. Students who can code in Python still lose marks writing pseudocode in the board's expected form, and trace tables reward slow, mechanical working.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three formats, each matched to a phase of the IGCSE year rather than to a preference. All are delivered over live video.

Term-time weekly hour

One fixed session a week through the autumn and spring terms, working alongside the school's scheme of work. This is the format for a Year 10 who needs the tier decision to go the right way, or a Year 11 whose problem is accumulation rather than panic.

  • Keeps pace with the school's own topic order
  • Homework set from the student's board and code
  • Tier readiness reviewed before the school fixes entries
  • Session notes to the parent each week

Eight-week paper block

Two sessions a week for eight weeks, built entirely on timed questions marked against the published scheme. Used in the run-up to a series or to mocks, when the content is broadly known and the marks are being lost on technique.

  • Every session includes a timed section under exam conditions
  • Marked scripts returned annotated against the scheme
  • Topic repair chosen from what the scripts show
  • Command-term work across each paper in the subject

Holiday intensive

Three or four sessions a week during a school break, used for the content a term could not absorb or for bridging into Year 12. The only window in the year when a student can do concentrated work without competing homework.

  • Concentrated topic repair with no homework competition
  • Bridging work into IB Diploma or A Level subjects
  • Catch-up after a period of absence or a school move
  • Flexible slots around family travel

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Mudon

01

The IGCSE year, counted backwards from the series

Pick the series your child is entered for and count back. Twelve months out, subject choices and tiers are being settled in Year 10 on the strength of Year 9 work. Nine months out, the school lodges entries and the tier stops being a conversation. Six months out, mocks are sat and they are the single best diagnostic a family will get. Three months out, the work should be timed papers rather than notes. Six weeks out, it should be nothing but error patterns from marked scripts.

Most tutoring requests from Dubailand arrive at the three-month mark, which is late but workable, and a meaningful number arrive at six weeks, which limits what is possible to technique and triage. The difference is not effort; it is which levers are still available. At six months a tier can sometimes still be changed with the school. At six weeks it cannot, and the honest plan becomes maximising marks inside the paper the student is entered for.

The dated anchors are worth writing down because they make the lag concrete. Pearson's November 2026 final timetable ran from late October to 19 November 2026. June 2026 results went to centres on 19 August 2026 and to students on 20 August 2026. November 2025 results reached students on 22 January 2026. A November resit therefore returns a grade in the middle of the following academic year, which matters if a sixth-form place depends on it.

Always read the live official timetable rather than a restated date. Pearson publishes provisional timetables ahead of each series and they can be revised, and Cambridge's zone system means two centres in different zones sit the same subject on different days.

02

What eight focused weeks can and cannot change

  • Movable in eight weeks: timing, working shown, command terms, equation and graph discipline
  • Not movable in eight weeks: two years of absent foundational content
  • A marked mock script tells you which of the two you are dealing with
  • Writing off low-density topics on purpose is a legitimate strategy near a series

Eight weeks is the most commonly requested block and the most commonly oversold one. What it reliably changes is technique: working shown, command terms obeyed, timing managed, equations balanced with state symbols, graphs drawn with the axes the question asked for. Those are habits, and habits move inside eight weeks because they are drilled rather than learned.

What eight weeks does not do is rebuild two years of missing content. A Year 11 who has never understood moles will not reach a confident Extended Chemistry grade in eight weeks, and saying so is more useful than promising otherwise. What is achievable in that case is a sharp focus on the topics with the highest mark density in the papers the student will actually sit, accepting that some marks are being written off deliberately.

The way to tell which case you are in is a marked mock paper. Scattered small losses across every question point to technique and respond quickly. Entire questions left blank or abandoned point to content, and content needs a longer runway. A tutor who asks for the mock script before quoting a plan is doing the right thing; one who proposes a fixed programme before seeing any work is selling a package.

No tutor can promise a grade, and this page makes no such promise. What can be committed to is that the hour is spent on the marks that are still available, chosen from evidence rather than from a syllabus checklist.

03

Core or Extended, Foundation or Higher: the decision that sets the ceiling

Tiering is the most consequential IGCSE decision and the least discussed. In Cambridge subjects with two tiers, Core caps the available grade; Extended reaches the top. In Pearson Mathematics, Foundation and Higher work the same way. A student placed on the lower tier cannot earn a grade they were never entered for, however well they perform on the day.

Schools place students on evidence, and they place conservatively because a student who sits Extended and collapses ends up worse off than one who sits Core and does well. That caution is reasonable, but it is based on attainment at the time of the decision, usually late in Year 10. If a student's trajectory changes after that, the case for moving up has to be made with work, and it has to be made early enough that the entry can still be amended.

The practical consequence for a Mudon family is that the autumn term of Year 10 is worth more tutoring money than the spring term of Year 11, and almost nobody spends it that way. A student working at the top of Core who wants a science A Level or a Higher Level Diploma subject needs Extended, and the work that gets them there is harder topics early, not revision later.

Ask the school three questions: which tier is my child currently expected to sit, what evidence would change that, and when is the last date the entry can be amended. The answers turn a vague worry into a dated plan.

What IGCSE tuition costs in Dubai, and what the drive adds

Take the cheapest end first, because that is where most families start looking. Budget online tutors and university students advertise from roughly AED 45 to 150 an hour, with EdFlik publishing AED 45 to 65 and Tutopiya AED 33 to 52. That tier can work for routine maths practice with a motivated student. It is less suited to an Extended science paper eight weeks out, where the value is in a tutor recognising a mark-scheme pattern.

The qualified online band sits at roughly AED 150 to 300, with Unitors publishing IGCSE from AED 150 and IB from AED 200. Subject specialists run AED 200 to 450 and above, with TutorChase publishing AED 270, and premium examiner-led provision reaches AED 650 at BartyED. In-home visits are quoted at roughly AED 180 to 500 an hour with travel inside the price, Bestimate's range being AED 180 to 350 and independent home tutors advertising AED 200 to 500.

Across a month, Bestimate's Tutoring Cost Dubai 2026 table puts a weekly hour at AED 240 to 600 at the budget end, AED 600 to 1,200 in the middle and AED 1,000 to 2,000 or more for specialist exam-year work. Packages in the market include AED 799 monthly for eight online sessions and AED 1,599 to 1,799 monthly for four two-hour in-home sessions. For context, KHDA confirmed in May 2026 that private school fees in Dubai would not rise for 2026-27.

These are market figures with their sources named, not IB Gram prices. The relevant comparison from Mudon is that the in-home band carries the Al Qudra Road drive inside it, and the online band does not.

Mocks: the diagnostic most families throw away

  • A grade gives the size of the problem; the script gives its shape
  • Content absence, technique loss, timing collapse and misreading look identical to a student
  • Timing and misreading respond in weeks; content absence needs months
  • Bring the marked mock to the trial lesson rather than a description of it

Mock results arrive, a number is read, a conversation happens, and the scripts go in a drawer. That is the single most common waste in an IGCSE year, because the scripts contain the only specific information anyone has about where the marks went. A grade tells you the size of the problem. The script tells you its shape.

Read properly, a mock paper separates four different failures that feel identical to a student. There is content absence, where a question was never attempted. There is technique loss, where the method was right and the presentation lost the marks. There is timing collapse, visible as a strong first half and an abandoned last page. And there is misreading, where the student answered a different question from the one asked, usually because a command term was skipped.

Each of those has a different fix and a different timescale. Timing collapse responds inside two weeks to papers sat with a clock. Misreading responds to command-term drilling. Technique loss responds to marking the student's own work against the scheme until the pattern is obvious to them. Content absence is the slow one, and it is the only one that genuinely needs months.

A first session built on a mock script is worth three built on a conversation. It is also the reason we ask for one marked piece of work before anything is scheduled.

One caution about mock grades themselves: schools set mocks at different levels of severity, and a mock marked harshly to motivate a cohort is not a prediction. Treat the number as a rough position and the annotations as the real information. Where a school publishes its own grade boundaries for the mock, compare them against the board's most recent published boundaries for the same paper rather than assuming they match.

06

The five subjects that matter for UAE equivalency

  • Five accredited IGCSE subjects at grade E or 3 or above, plus A Level or AS Level at E
  • Arabic and Islamic education are not counted among the five
  • American track: SAT Math 450, and IELTS 5, TOEFL iBT 61 or SAT 450 reading and writing
  • No IB points figure should be published without a Ministry source
  • Equivalency is a Ministry process; no tutor performs or guarantees it

Beyond the grades themselves, an IGCSE timetable has a second job: satisfying Ministry of Education equivalency for a student who may later apply to a UAE university. On the British track, a student must show five accredited subjects in GCSE or IGCSE certificates at no less than grade E or grade 3, together with one accredited subject at Advanced Level at no less than E or two at Advanced Subsidiary Level at the same grade.

The detail that catches families out is which subjects count. Arabic and Islamic education are not included among the five required subjects, even though Dubai private schools must teach them. A student who assumes those two carry part of the load can arrive at the count short. One page currently ranking for these searches states that UAE candidates must take six IGCSE subjects; the published rule is five, and getting that right matters more than any ranking.

For the American track the requirements are different again, with English proficiency shown by an IELTS academic score of 5, a TOEFL iBT score of 61, or 450 in the SAT reading and writing section, and mathematics by at least 450 in the SAT Math test. For the IB, no points threshold should be taken from a tutoring page without being read on the Ministry's own site.

IB Gram does not perform equivalency or attestation and does not guarantee any result from it. The process belongs to the Ministry and the relevant emirate authority, and families should use their official channels. Nor is tutoring required for equivalency; the subjects and grades are what the rule asks for.

07

Arabic, Islamic Education and Social Studies alongside the IGCSE timetable

  • Arabic, Islamic Education and social and moral studies are required in all Dubai private schools
  • Separate classes for Arabs and non-Arabs are required; combined classes are prohibited
  • Instructional time is counted in 40-minute units, with a 25-minute minimum advised per lesson
  • Additional or different content needs prior Ministry permission
  • Schools must ensure teachers of Arabic and Islamic Education hold the relevant KHDA approval

Every Dubai private school teaches Arabic, Islamic Education and social and moral studies regardless of the international curriculum it is licensed for, and KHDA's requirements were to be implemented by the start of the 2025-26 academic year. For a Year 11 in Mudon, that means these subjects sit on the timetable next to the IGCSE courses and compete for the same evening hours.

The rules around them are specific. KHDA requires separate classes for Arabs and non-Arabs in Arabic as a first language, Islamic Education and Social Studies, stating that combined classes for both groups are strictly prohibited because the curriculum expectations and language of instruction differ. Standard Arabic is required as the main language of instruction for Islamic Education for Arabs and for Arabic as a first language, with the school's licensed-curriculum language used for non-Arabs in Islamic Education and moral, social and cultural studies.

Instructional time is calculated on a 40-minute lesson unit, schools may vary lesson length provided the weekly total is met, and it is advised that any mandatory subject lesson runs at least 25 minutes. For these subjects the use of any different or additional content without prior permission from the Ministry is strictly prohibited, which is a real constraint on how any tutoring in them can be described: support means working with the school's own material, not substituting something else.

Practically, families in this belt treat the mandatory subjects as a scheduling problem rather than an attainment one, and the fix is usually sequencing the week so that IGCSE past-paper work does not land on the same evening as an Arabic assessment.

08

Coursework, permits and what a tutor is allowed to do

  • Tutors teach, critique and mark; they do not produce assessed work
  • Official syllabus and past-paper material is linked, never redistributed
  • MoHRE private tuition permit: free, two years, two working days to issue
  • Teachers tutoring their own enrolled students is the arrangement to avoid

International GCSE carries less internally assessed work than the IB Diploma, but where it exists the boundary is the same. A tutor may teach the subject, explain what the assessment criteria reward, critique an approach and mark a student's own draft against published descriptors. A tutor may not write, complete or produce the work. That holds for English coursework where a centre offers it, for science practical write-ups and for any project component.

Board material has its own boundary. Syllabus documents, past papers, mark schemes and grade-boundary tables belong to Cambridge and Pearson. Sessions reference the official pages and link to them; nothing is redistributed, and no unreleased material exists to be shared regardless of what anyone claims.

On the tutor's side, the UAE requires a permit. The MoHRE private tuition work permit came in under Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, is granted free of charge for two years, and is open to registered school teachers, government and private sector employees, unemployed residents, university students and school students aged 15 to 18. MoHRE's service listing shows no fee and a two-working-day completion time, applied for through its smart app, website and e-services system. Those tutoring without a permit are subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws; no fine schedule is published, so no amount should be quoted.

One arrangement to avoid: Abu Dhabi's professional-ethics rules bar private and charter school staff from paid tutoring of students at their own school, and the permit's code of conduct carries a similar bar. If a teacher offers to tutor your child privately, ask whether their school and the permit allow it.

Remraam

Apartments towards Emirates Road with South View School on its edge, which makes it one of the few communities in this belt where an IGCSE school is genuinely close by.

Arabian Ranches 3

Across Al Qudra Road and on the same school-run pattern as Mudon. Year 11 students here face the same compressed evenings and the same February deadline pressure.

DAMAC Hills

Jebel Ali School sits inside the community and takes students through IGCSE, so a good number of Mudon families drive here twice a day.

Motor City

GEMS Metropole School and the densest concentration of freelance tutors advertising for Dubailand work. Most of them cover several subjects rather than one board deeply.

Town Square

The longest school run of the group. Evening revision here starts later than in Mudon, which changes what a weekday session can realistically cover.

Dubai Sports City

Victory Heights Primary and GEMS United School. Traffic around the stadium district between four and six makes any travelling tutor's arrival time a guess.

Arabian Ranches 2

Ranches Primary School and Jumeirah English Speaking School. The established end of the belt, and the reason the morning run converges on one junction.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Name the board and the code

The first useful detail is not the subject but the syllabus code: 0580 or 4MA1, 0625 or 4PH1, and whether the entry is Core or Extended, Foundation or Higher. That single line determines which past papers the tutor sets, and schools in this belt do not all use the same board across the timetable.

  2. 02

Send a marked mock or past paper

One marked script shows whether the losses are content, technique, timing or misreading, and those four problems have different fixes and different timescales. Sending it before the trial lesson means the first hour is spent working rather than diagnosing.

  3. 03

Agree the block, not just the hour

Term-time weekly, an eight-week paper block or a holiday intensive are different products. Which one fits depends on how far the series is away and what the script showed. We say which we think it is, including when the honest answer is that less is needed than you expected.

  4. 04

Free trial, then a fixed slot

A trial lesson over live video at no cost, before any payment, so the student meets the tutor. After that the slot is fixed on Gulf Standard Time around the school run, and it can move during Ramadan or an exam fortnight without a travel charge attached.

  5. 05

Check against the school's calendar monthly

Session notes go to the parent, and the plan is reviewed against the school's own deadlines and the entry dates every few weeks. Mocks, coursework deadlines and the series itself each change what the hour should be doing, and the plan should change with them rather than run on autopilot.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

The plan starts from a date

Every plan is counted backwards from the series the student is entered for, with the tier, the mocks and the entry deadline marked on it. A plan without those dates is a subscription, and families in this belt have usually bought one of those before.

Board and code are confirmed, not assumed

Dubailand schools mix Cambridge and Pearson across subjects, and the papers a tutor sets are worthless if they belong to the other board. Confirming the code per subject takes one message and prevents a term of misaimed practice.

Marked scripts drive the sessions

Work is chosen from what the student's own marked papers show rather than from a syllabus checklist. Content absence, technique loss, timing collapse and misreading each get a different response, and only the script tells you which you have.

Rates on this page are sourced market figures

Every AED band here is attributed to the provider or table that published it, so you can check it before spending anything. None of them is an IB Gram price list, and no competitor figure is quoted without naming who published it.

Scheduling absorbs a Dubailand evening

A late bus from DAMAC Hills, a fixture at school, a slot moving after Iftar during Ramadan: none of those cost anything, because nobody is driving to Al Salam or Arabella. The session starts when the student sits down.

No regulator or board claims

IB Gram is an independent tutor-matching platform with no KHDA permit, no ADEK registration, no board affiliation and no UAE office. Where a page in this market attaches a regulator's name to its tutors, that is a claim worth checking rather than a credential.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Mudon: your questions answered

Will an IGCSE tutor travel to our house in Mudon?+

Not one arranged through IB Gram. Lessons are delivered one-to-one over live video, and home visits are a service IB Gram runs in India only. Independent tutors and agencies in Dubai do offer visits, quoted at roughly AED 180 to 500 an hour with the travel inside the price according to Bestimate's Dubai cost table and the rates home tutors advertise. From a Mudon address, which sits off the main tutor corridors through Motor City and Dubai Sports City, that loading is noticeable. The online route buys you a tutor chosen for the board and the paper instead of for the drive.

How many weeks before the series should we start tutoring?+

It depends which problem you have. For technique losses, eight weeks of two sessions a week is a sensible block and can move timing, working shown and command-term discipline measurably. For missing content, three to six months is realistic, because foundational gaps do not close under pressure. For a tier decision, the autumn term of Year 10 is the moment, long before anyone feels urgency. A marked mock script tells you which case applies, which is why we ask for one before proposing a block rather than selling a fixed package to everybody.

Which series does a Dubai centre actually enter students for?+

For Cambridge, UAE candidates sit the June and November series. The February and March series is offered in India only, so an Indian timetable shared in a parents' group is the wrong document for a Dubai school. Pearson Edexcel International GCSE runs in May and June and again in November. Cambridge also allocates every centre to one of six administrative zones and states that the correct zone timetable must be used, warning it cannot accept responsibility for candidates who miss an exam after using the wrong version. Ask your school which zone it sits in rather than assuming.

Can my son move from Core to Extended partway through Year 11?+

Sometimes, and only with the school. Tier entries are lodged months before the papers, and once they are in, the available grade range is fixed whatever happens on the day. If your son's work has improved since the decision was made, the case has to be put with evidence and early enough for the entry to be amended. Ask the school three questions: which tier is he currently entered for, what evidence would change that, and what is the last date an amendment is possible. Those answers convert a worry into something actionable.

What does an eight-week block realistically change in IGCSE Maths?+

It changes how marks are earned on questions he can already partly do. Working shown on multi-step problems, rounding held to the end, graphs drawn with the axes the question specified, time allocated so the last page is attempted: those are habits and they respond to drilling inside eight weeks. What it will not do is build algebraic fluency that was never there. If a marked paper shows whole questions abandoned rather than scattered small losses, the honest plan is longer, and we would say so before taking a booking.

Do you cover both Cambridge and Pearson Edexcel for the sciences?+

Yes, and the distinction matters more than parents expect. Cambridge 0625 Physics and Pearson 4PH1 cover similar ground with different paper structures, different question styles and different mark-scheme conventions, so practice from the wrong board teaches the wrong habits. Tell us the code for each subject, and the tutor sets papers from that board only. Where a Dubailand school runs one board for maths and another for sciences, which happens, the plan simply follows the codes rather than assuming a single board across the whole timetable.

How much should we budget monthly for one IGCSE subject from Mudon?+

Bestimate's Tutoring Cost Dubai 2026 table puts a weekly one-hour arrangement at roughly AED 240 to 600 a month at the budget end, AED 600 to 1,200 in the middle band, and AED 1,000 to 2,000 or more for specialist exam-year support. Market packages include AED 799 a month for eight online sessions and AED 1,599 to 1,799 a month for four two-hour in-home visits. Those are published market figures rather than IB Gram prices. For a single subject on a term-time weekly hour, the middle band is the realistic planning number.

Is a cheaper university-student tutor good enough for Extended science?+

For routine practice with a self-motivated student, often yes. Budget online tutors advertise from roughly AED 45 to 150 an hour, with EdFlik publishing AED 45 to 65 and Tutopiya AED 33 to 52, and that can be sensible value for working through exercises. Close to a series on an Extended paper it is usually false economy, because the value then lies in someone recognising a mark-scheme pattern in a marked script and knowing which three topics carry the most available marks. Ask any tutor at any price which papers they have marked.

How do mocks help if the exams are still months away?+

The mock script is the best diagnostic a family gets all year, and most of them are read as a single grade and then filed. Read properly, a script separates content absence, technique loss, timing collapse and misreading, which feel identical to the student and need completely different fixes. Timing collapse shows as a strong start and an abandoned last page; misreading shows as a good answer to the wrong question. Bring the marked papers to a trial lesson and the first hour becomes work rather than diagnosis.

Which IGCSE subjects do UAE universities count for equivalency?+

On the British track, Ministry of Education equivalency asks for five accredited subjects in GCSE or IGCSE certificates at no less than grade E or grade 3, plus one accredited subject at Advanced Level at no less than E or two at Advanced Subsidiary Level at the same grade. Arabic and Islamic education are not included among the five, which is the detail that catches families short. One page ranking for these searches states six subjects are required; the published figure is five. IB Gram does not perform equivalency, and the Ministry's own channels are the place to verify it.

Can the same tutor help with a Year 11 into Year 12 transition?+

Usually, and the summer between the two years is the cheapest useful tutoring window in the whole cycle. The gap between an IGCSE grade and the first term of an A Level or a Higher Level Diploma subject is wider than most students expect, particularly in Maths, Physics and Chemistry, where notation and expected independence both change. Six to eight sessions across the break on the specific bridging content stops September being a shock. Tell us which route the student is taking, because bridging into Higher Level Diploma differs from bridging into A Level.

Do the mandatory Arabic and Islamic Education lessons affect the IGCSE timetable?+

They sit alongside it. Every Dubai private school teaches Arabic, Islamic Education and social and moral studies whatever international curriculum it is licensed for, with KHDA's requirements implemented from the start of the 2025-26 academic year. KHDA requires separate classes for Arabs and non-Arabs in Arabic as a first language, Islamic Education and Social Studies, and combined classes are prohibited. Instructional time is counted in 40-minute units. For most families the effect on tutoring is a scheduling one: avoid stacking past-paper work on the same evening as an Arabic assessment.

What happens if we need to pause lessons for travel or exams?+

Say so and the slot pauses. Because no travel is being arranged, a gap costs nothing to accommodate and the same slot can usually be held. Families in this belt commonly pause during the exam fortnight itself, when another hour of input helps less than sleep does, and during summer travel. During Ramadan, sessions more often move than pause, with slots after Iftar being the most requested. The plan is reviewed every few weeks anyway, so a pause becomes part of it rather than an interruption to it.

Does a private tutor in Dubai need a licence, and can we check it?+

Yes, and you can ask directly. The MoHRE private tuition work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, is granted free of charge for two years, and covers registered school teachers, government and private sector employees, unemployed residents, university students and school students aged 15 to 18. MoHRE's service listing shows no fee and a two-working-day completion time. Anyone tutoring without it is subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws, though no fine schedule is published. A tutoring business with premises in Dubai needs a separate KHDA Educational Services Permit, which IB Gram does not hold.

Put a date on it and work backwards

The useful first step from Mudon is not choosing a tutor; it is writing down the series your child is entered for, the tier, the mock dates and the coursework deadlines, and then deciding what the next eight weeks have to achieve. Send that list with the syllabus codes and one marked paper, and a free trial lesson over live video is arranged before any payment is taken. If the honest answer is that less tutoring is needed than you expected, you will hear that too. Lessons are online; no tutor is sent to a UAE address.
