IB Physics Tutor in Green Community

An IB physics tutor in Green Community is most useful when they can find the belief behind a wrong answer. Diploma physics is five themes and a set of misconceptions that survive good teaching: force needed to keep something moving, current used up around a circuit, heat and temperature treated as one thing. IB Gram teaches live, one-to-one, online on Gulf Standard Time.

Most wrong physics answers are a belief, not a gap

A Diploma physics student gets a question wrong and the natural response is to reteach the topic. Often that changes nothing, and the reason is that the student did not have a gap. They had a belief: a model of how the world works that is intuitive, stable, and incompatible with the physics. Reteaching does not displace a belief. Finding it and confronting it does.

The classic examples are familiar to every physics teacher and almost never addressed in tutoring. That a force is needed to keep something moving at constant speed. That current is used up as it goes round a circuit. That voltage is a property a component possesses rather than a difference between two points. That the force in circular motion points outwards. That heat and temperature are the same quantity with different names. Each of those survives a competent lesson and keeps producing wrong answers afterwards.

This page is therefore organised around the syllabus and around what students actually believe about it. It sets out the five themes of the current physics guide, explains what the Higher Level extensions add inside each, lists the misconceptions that recur in marked scripts from this catchment with the question type that exposes each one, and then covers the paper anatomy and the scientific investigation.

There is a practical reason this distinction matters to a family paying by the hour. A gap is cheap to close: the content is taught, the student absorbs it, the marks follow. A belief is expensive, because it has to be found first, and it hides behind correct recall. A student can define Newton's first law accurately in one question and draw a net forward force on a body at constant velocity in the next, and nothing on the report card distinguishes that from not having learned the law at all. Buying content teaching for a belief problem is the commonest way physics tutoring money is spent without effect.

Green Community gives this a practical edge. The community sits inside Dubai Investments Park, low-rise and walkable, and most things a family needs are close. Diploma physics specialists are not among them: Dubai's IB provision is 7% of private enrolment across 227 schools and 17 curricula, and the schools serving this catchment keep Higher Level physics cohorts small. A radius search here reliably returns general science tutors and rarely returns somebody who can tell a belief from a gap.

IB Gram teaches live, one-to-one, over video on Gulf Standard Time. We do not offer home visits anywhere in the UAE; in-home tutoring is a service we run only in India. Practical work stays in the school laboratory under the teacher's supervision, as the IB requires. What a tutor contributes is the physics before it and the analysis and writing after it.

One note on dates. Cambridge and Pearson publish their timetables and we cite them where relevant. IB session and results dates cannot be confirmed from the IB by automated means, so this page names the May session as the one UAE schools sit and publishes no specific IB examination or results date.

Diploma Programme Physics

Available at Higher and Standard Level. The current guide organises content into themes covering space, time and motion; the particulate nature of matter; wave behaviour; fields; and nuclear and quantum physics, with Higher Level extensions inside each theme. Assessment combines externally marked papers with an internally assessed scientific investigation moderated by the IB.

Students in this catchment mostly arrive from IGCSE physics, where a correct substitution usually earned the mark. The Diploma asks for causal explanation in prose and for reasoning across linked parts, which is why a strong IGCSE grade predicts the content will be manageable and says nothing about the first Diploma report.

COREAges 16-19 · Mostly the second Diploma year

The scientific investigation

The internally assessed component, marked against criteria covering research design, data analysis, conclusion and evaluation, and carrying a substantial share of the subject grade; confirm the current weighting in your school's subject guide. It is physics rather than writing, and it is marked as physics.

Physics investigations in this catchment fail most often on measurement rather than on topic choice. A research question whose dependent variable cannot be measured to a useful precision with the school's apparatus produces data too noisy to support any conclusion, and the evaluation criterion is then the only place marks can be recovered.

MYPAges 11-16 · Years 7-11

MYP Sciences

Assessed against four criteria lettered A to D, each out of eight, covering knowledge and understanding, inquiring and designing, processing and evaluating, and reflecting on the impacts of science. No external papers for most students, so the record is criterion judgements.

MYP 5 students heading for Diploma physics in this catchment usually arrive with good inquiry habits and shaky algebra. Transposing a relationship under time pressure is the skill the Diploma assumes from the first fortnight, and the Middle Years Programme never required it at speed.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

The five themes with what each one actually demands, plus the cross-cutting skills that belong to no theme and are therefore the ones nobody revises.

Space, time and motion

HL and SL

Kinematics, forces, momentum, energy and circular motion, with Higher Level extensions into rotational dynamics and relativity. The dominant loss is a free-body diagram never drawn, so forces are summed from a mental picture and a direction is lost.

The particulate nature of matter

HL and SL

Thermal physics, the kinetic model, gas laws and current electricity. Unit and scale errors dominate: temperatures in Celsius where kelvin is required, volumes in litres entering an equation expecting cubic metres.

Wave behaviour

HL and SL

Oscillations, travelling waves, superposition, standing waves and the Doppler effect, with Higher Level extensions. Diagram questions reward precision about phase and path difference; a vague account of interference earns almost nothing.

Fields

HL and SL

Gravitational, electric and magnetic fields and electromagnetic induction. The hardest theme in this catchment, because it asks a student to hold an abstract model and a sign convention simultaneously under time pressure.

Nuclear and quantum physics

HL and SL

Radioactive decay, nuclear energy and quantum behaviour, with Higher Level extensions. Content-dense and usually taught late, which makes it the theme most likely to be unfinished when the mock window arrives.

The scientific investigation

HL and SL

Design, data analysis, conclusion and evaluation, marked against criteria. Fails on measurement precision more often than on topic: data too noisy to support a claim leaves the evaluation criterion carrying the whole piece.

Uncertainty and error propagation

HL and SL

Absolute and percentage uncertainty, propagation through calculations and uncertainty bars on a graph. Belongs to no theme, appears on every data question, and is consequently the least revised content in the course.

Graph handling and linearisation

HL and SL

Choosing what to plot so a relationship becomes linear, then extracting a gradient with units and saying what it physically represents. A gradient without units is a discarded mark on almost every data-based question.

Algebraic transposition under time

HL and SL

Rearranging a relationship before substituting. The skill that decides whether the back half of a multi-part question is reachable at all, and a loss that has nothing to do with the student's physics.

Command-term discipline

HL and SL

"State", "describe", "explain", "discuss" and "evaluate" set four or five different depths. A correct formula where "explain" was asked earns part marks at best, because the question wanted a causal chain in words.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three formats. The first is the one this page argues for, because the other two are repairing what it would have prevented.

Misconception diagnosis and repair

Sessions built around questions designed to expose a belief rather than test recall. The tutor finds what the student actually thinks, confronts it with a case the belief cannot explain, and then rebuilds the physics on top. Slower than reteaching and the only thing that works on a stable misconception.

  • Questions chosen to contradict the suspected belief
  • Student states their prediction before any calculation
  • The contradiction worked through, not announced
  • A written list of the beliefs found and addressed

Theme-by-theme content and explanation work

Weekly sessions following the school's scheme of work, with causal explanation in words enforced rather than accepted as a correct formula. Free-body and field diagrams drawn before any calculation, every time.

  • Follows the school's sequence rather than a parallel syllabus
  • Explanations written as causal chains
  • Diagrams drawn first, always
  • 60 or 90 minutes weekly at a fixed Gulf Standard Time slot

Data, uncertainty and investigation work

A block on the skills that belong to no theme and appear on every data question: uncertainty derived rather than guessed, propagated through each operation, uncertainty bars plotted honestly, and linearisation chosen before plotting.

  • Uncertainty derived from instrument resolution
  • Propagation worked through each operation explicitly
  • Linearisation decided before anything is plotted
  • Investigation drafts marked against the criteria, never written

01

The five themes, and what each one actually asks a student to do

The current physics guide organises content into themes rather than a long list of topics, and the organisation is useful because each theme makes a different demand. Space, time and motion is largely about representing a situation correctly before computing anything: the free-body diagram is the working, not an illustration, and students who sum forces from a mental picture lose direction and sign marks the diagram would have protected.

The particulate nature of matter is about scale and units. Thermal physics and the gas laws punish a temperature left in Celsius, a volume left in litres, a pressure in the wrong unit. These are not conceptual failures and they are the single most common arithmetic loss in the theme, which makes writing the unit at every line the cheapest available fix.

Wave behaviour is about precision of language. Superposition, phase difference, path difference and standing waves all have questions whose marks hang on exact statements: a phase difference quoted as a fraction of a cycle, a path difference related to a wavelength. An approximately right account of interference scores very little, and students find that disproportionate until they see the mark scheme.

Fields is the hard one, and it is hard for a structural reason. It requires an abstract model - a field as a property of space - plus a sign convention, held together while a calculation proceeds. Nuclear and quantum physics is dense rather than difficult, and its real problem is scheduling: it is usually taught late, so it is the theme most likely to be unfinished when mocks arrive.

02

What the Higher Level extensions actually add

Higher Level physics is often described to families as "more content", which is true and unhelpful. The extensions sit inside the themes rather than after them, and what they mainly add is a requirement to reason across several linked steps on unfamiliar ground. That is a different demand from knowing more facts, and it needs different preparation.

Inside space, time and motion, the Higher Level work extends into rotational dynamics and relativistic treatment, both of which require a student to apply a familiar principle in a setting where their intuition is no help at all. Inside fields, the extensions push further into potential and induction, where the abstraction deepens and sign conventions multiply. Inside wave behaviour and nuclear physics, the extensions add quantitative treatment to what was descriptive at Standard Level.

The practical consequence is that the Higher Level paper punishes abandonment. A long question whose second part does not resolve cleanly causes students to stop, when the third and fourth parts are frequently reachable from a partial result. Practising persistence specifically - carrying an incomplete value forward deliberately and seeing which later parts it opens up - is a separate exercise from practising content, and it is rarely done.

For a family deciding between the levels, the honest test is tolerance for sustained unfamiliarity rather than comfort with the current content. A student who is comfortable with the Standard Level material but stops at the first unclear step may achieve a better grade at Standard Level, and that is a legitimate choice rather than a retreat. Read the entry requirements of two or three target degree programmes before confirming either way.

03

The misconceptions that survive good teaching

Physics education research has catalogued these for decades and tutoring almost never uses the catalogue. A misconception is not ignorance. It is a working model of the world, built from experience, that produces correct predictions in everyday life and wrong answers in physics. Because it works most of the time, a lesson that contradicts it does not displace it; the student learns the formal answer for the test and keeps the belief.

The commonest one is that a force is required to maintain motion at constant velocity. Everyday experience supports this, because everyday motion involves friction. The student learns Newton's first law, answers a recall question correctly, and then on a question about a body moving at constant speed draws a net forward force. The question that exposes it asks what happens to an object in deep space when the engine stops.

In electricity there are two. That current is used up as it flows round a circuit, which produces answers where the current after a lamp is smaller than before it. And that voltage is a property a component has, rather than a difference in potential between two points, which makes series and parallel reasoning collapse. In circular motion, the belief in an outward force is almost universal and survives a correct definition of centripetal force. In thermal physics, heat and temperature are treated as one quantity, which breaks every question about latent heat.

The method for all of them is the same and it is not reteaching. Ask the student to predict, out loud, before any calculation. Then present the case their model cannot explain and work through the contradiction with them rather than announcing it. That takes longer than an explanation and it is the only thing that moves a belief, which is why it is worth a session rather than a sentence.

Paper anatomy, and the habit each section punishes

  • Multiple-choice distractors are built from the standard misconceptions
  • Work the physics; do not recognise the question shape
  • Data sections mark whether the claim survives the uncertainty bars
  • Gradients need units and a physical meaning, every time
  • "Explain" means a causal chain in words, not a correct formula

Diploma physics is examined across paper components that combine multiple-choice questions, a data-analysis section and short and extended written response. Each punishes a different behaviour, which means whole-paper practice late in the course tells a student their total and hides the cause.

Multiple choice punishes recognition in place of reasoning. The distractors are built from exactly the misconceptions listed above, plus the common algebraic slips, so an option that feels obviously right is frequently the designed trap for a student holding one of those beliefs. The remedy is to work the physics rather than to recognise the shape, which costs seconds and saves marks.

The data-analysis section punishes weak uncertainty and graph handling, and rewards a skill that is barely taught: judging what the data can and cannot support. A student who asserts a proportional relationship from points whose uncertainty bars overlap has made a physics error. Linearisation, gradient units and the physical meaning of a gradient are all marked here, and all are learnable in three or four sessions.

Extended response punishes depth mismatch. "Explain" wants a causal chain in words; "discuss" wants both sides reaching a destination; "evaluate" wants a judgement with evidence. A student whose default register is a correct statement of physics scores well on recall and consistently loses the high-tariff marks, paper after paper, without ever identifying the pattern - because each individual loss looks like bad luck.

The practical consequence is that late preparation should separate the sections rather than sitting whole papers. Twenty multiple-choice questions, then one data-analysis section, then four extended-response questions, each marked separately, tells a student which of the three is leaking marks. A whole paper tells them a total and leaves the cause buried.

05

The investigation is physics, and it is marked as physics

Students treat the scientific investigation as a writing task with a practical attached. The criteria treat it as physics: whether the research design can answer the question, whether the data is treated honestly, whether the conclusion follows from the evidence, and whether the evaluation understands the limitations of what was done.

Physics investigations in this catchment fail on measurement more often than on topic choice. A dependent variable that cannot be measured to a useful precision with the school's apparatus produces data so noisy that no conclusion is defensible, and the student then writes a conclusion anyway. The fix is upstream: before committing, estimate the expected size of the effect and compare it against the resolution of the instrument available. If the effect is smaller than the uncertainty, the question needs changing.

The second recurring failure is uncertainty treated as decoration. An uncertainty quoted as a plausible round number rather than derived from the instrument's resolution; a percentage uncertainty calculated once and never propagated through the subsequent multiplication; uncertainty bars drawn as a constant width because it looked tidy. Each of those costs marks in the analysis criterion and then again in the evaluation criterion, because there is nothing real for the evaluation to engage with.

The boundary is firm. A tutor may help narrow the question, check that the effect is measurable with the available apparatus, teach the physics, explain each criterion and its mark ceiling, check propagation, question whether the conclusion follows, and mark a draft against the descriptors. A tutor may not write, rewrite or complete any part of it, supply the question, or produce or adjust data. Services in this market sell completed Internal Assessments at AED 3,750, and submitting bought work risks the whole Diploma.

06

The mathematics inside physics, which is where many physics marks actually go

A good proportion of what looks like weak physics is weak mathematics wearing a physics costume, and separating the two is one of the more valuable things a first session does. Three skills account for most of it.

Transposition first. A student who recognises a relationship but cannot rearrange it quickly loses every part of a multi-part question after the first, because each later part needs the subject changed. This is not a physics problem and it will not improve with more physics. It improves with ten minutes of manipulation practice per session, by hand, marked.

Second, powers of ten and prefixes. Physics is full of quantities spanning many orders of magnitude, and a nano mishandled or a kilo applied twice invalidates an otherwise flawless calculation. Students who are confident with the physics and careless with the prefix produce answers wrong by a factor of a thousand and do not notice, because nothing about the method looked wrong.

Third, proportional reasoning. Many questions ask what happens to one quantity when another doubles, and the efficient route is proportional rather than computational. Students who substitute numbers into the full relationship each time arrive at the same answer more slowly, and in a timed paper slower is fewer marks. Teaching the proportional route is a single session that pays across every theme.

The diagnostic for all three is quick. Give the student a relationship and ask them to make a named quantity the subject, out loud, with a timer running. Then give them a calculation containing a prefix and watch whether they convert before substituting. Then ask what happens to one quantity when another doubles, and see whether they reach for numbers or for a ratio. Five minutes, and it usually settles whether the next month is about physics at all.

What physics tutoring costs here, and what each band actually buys

Four bands, read October 2026 and attributed to whoever published the figure. Online entry: Tutopiya advertises from about AED 33-52 an hour, EdFlik from AED 45-65. Online subject tuition: Unitors publishes IB from AED 200. In the home: Dubai rate guidance puts one-to-one at AED 180-350, with independent home tutors advertising to AED 500. And the specialist exam-year tier, published at AED 200-450 and above, where TutorChase quotes around AED 270 and BartyED publishes AED 650. Hold the two extremes together before reading on, because the comparison is the whole argument of this section: the top of that list is close to twenty times the bottom for one hour of somebody's attention, and in Diploma physics it is nowhere near twenty times as useful.

For Diploma physics the entry band does very little that is relevant. Someone at the lower end can keep a student working through questions and cannot find the belief behind a wrong answer, which is the specific skill this subject needs. The real decision is between the AED 150-300 online band and the AED 180-500 in-home band, and the difference between those is substantially the journey.

Monthly figures help with planning. Dubai rate guidance estimates a weekly one-hour session at roughly AED 240-600 a month at the budget end, AED 600-1,200 in the middle and AED 1,000-2,000 and above for specialist exam-year support. Packages seen in the market include around AED 799 a month for eight online sessions and AED 1,599-1,799 a month for four two-hour in-home visits.

None of these are IB Gram prices, and this page has no rate card because the fee depends on level and is quoted after the free trial lesson. The bands exist so that a quote can be judged against something published. Three of the pages ranking for this search publish no price at all, and two quote US dollars to families who transact in dirhams.

Online physics from Green Community, with the limits named

The format fits the assessed work. Diploma physics tutoring is mostly document and diagram work: a marked script, a data question, a draft investigation, a graph that needs interrogating, a free-body diagram that was never drawn. A shared screen where both people annotate the same plot or diagram is better than one paper copy across a table, and the session is reviewable afterwards.

Misconception work in particular suits it, because the method requires the student to commit to a prediction in writing before any calculation. On a shared screen that prediction is visible, timestamped and impossible to quietly revise, which is exactly the pressure the method needs. Across a table it is easier for a student to slide from their actual belief to the answer they think is wanted.

One limit here is structural rather than pedagogical, and it was stated near the top of this page rather than left down here to be discovered: IB Gram runs no home visits anywhere in the UAE, because in-home tutoring is a service we operate only in India. A Green Community family weighing that against a local in-home quote should know why we put it in the opening paragraphs instead. Two providers ranking for UAE searches route the enquiry to an Indian telephone number without disclosing anywhere on the page that delivery is remote, and a parent who has budgeted the AED 180-350 in-home band for somebody to arrive at the house deserves to learn that before the first invoice rather than after it.

The honest limits: a student who will not begin work without an adult physically present does better in person; a weak connection shortens the hour whatever the clock says; a shared study space, more common in the apartment blocks here than in the villas, undermines the lesson because the tutor cannot manage the room; and no online tutor substitutes for laboratory time, which under IB rules belongs to the school. If one of those applies, hire locally and ask about the MoHRE private tuition work permit first.

09

Honesty, permits and how to start

  • MoHRE private tuition work permit, granted free of charge for two years
  • No KHDA, ADEK, MoE, IB or Cambridge approval claimed, because we hold none
  • No examiner claims and no promised outcomes of any kind
  • Official papers and schemes linked, never distributed
  • Send the level and one marked script or investigation draft to start

The section above ended with an instruction to ask about the permit, so here is what you would be asking about. Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023 introduced the private tuition work permit, it is issued through MoHRE, and the UAE government states that it is granted free of charge for two years. The eligible list runs to registered school teachers, government and private-sector employees, unemployed residents, university students and school students aged 15 to 18 - which is to say almost everybody who teaches physics privately in this part of Dubai. Tutoring without one carries fines and penalties under the applicable laws, and no schedule of those penalties is published, so distrust any figure quoted at you as though it were. One arrangement to refuse whatever the permit says: never arrange paid tuition with your child's own class teacher.

What we do not claim: IB Gram is not KHDA approved, a KHDA Educational Services Permit being issued to training institutes with physical premises that we neither hold nor occupy. We claim no ADEK, MoE, MoHRE, IB or Cambridge accreditation or partnership. We do not describe tutors as IB examiners, because current examiner status is not evidenceable for individuals and is routinely used in this market to imply access to marking or grade boundaries that nobody has. We promise no grade, points total or improvement figure, and publish no statistic without its source and date.

We also do not host or distribute IB papers, mark schemes, grade-boundary tables or subject guides, which are copyright material. We reference and link the official sources and work from the copies your child's school is licensed to provide, and a service offering a complete library of papers or unreleased material is worth declining on that basis.

To start, send the level - Higher or Standard - the school, and a photograph of the most recent marked script, or the current investigation draft if that is the live deadline. The first session reads the script for two things: which beliefs are producing wrong answers, and whether the losses are physics or the mathematics inside it. The written note at the end says which, and it is yours whether or not you continue.

Where we tutor

Green Community and the streets around it

These communities share a school catchment with small Higher Level physics cohorts and almost no local specialist supply.

Green Community

Low-rise villas, townhouses and apartments on landscaped lanes with a small retail centre and several schools nearby, giving an unusually short school run for Dubai.

Dubai Investments Park

The larger district Green Community sits inside, holding most of the catchment's school capacity including its IB continuum provision.

The Sustainable City

A planned low-energy community with its own IB school, whose own systems often supply investigation contexts for students there.

Jebel Ali

The industrial district to the west around the port and free zone, with older school sites and heavy evening traffic on the port roads.

Al Furjan

Metro-connected villas and townhouses north of here, with the deepest in-home tutoring supply in the cluster, concentrated at IGCSE rather than Diploma level.

Discovery Gardens

Dense apartments with very mixed home languages, where command-term depth features in requests more than content gaps do.

Dubai South

Large and new around the Expo site and Al Maktoum airport, where a radius search for Higher Level physics returns general science tutors only.

Emaar South

Golf-course villas deep inside Dubai South, where a tutor arriving by car starts after the student's best reasoning hours have passed.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in Green Community

Diploma physics provision serving this community

The Diploma is taught at a few schools in and near this catchment, and Higher Level physics cohorts are small. That concentrates a year group's experience of the subject on one or two teachers, and it leaves no local tutoring market built around the course.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Send the level and one marked script

Higher or Standard, plus a photograph of the most recent marked assessment. A physics script usually reveals within two questions whether the problem is a belief, an explanation habit, or the mathematics inside the physics.

  2. 02

    Find the belief before reteaching

The tutor asks the student to predict out loud before any calculation, then presents the case the student's model cannot explain. That is slower than an explanation and it is the only thing that displaces a stable misconception.

  3. 03

    Separate physics from mathematics

Transposition under time, prefixes and proportional reasoning account for a large share of what looks like weak physics. Naming which it is prevents a term of content teaching aimed at an algebra problem.

  4. 04

    Free diagnostic trial lesson online

A real one-to-one lesson with the matched physics specialist on the document you sent, ending in a written note of what it showed and what the next month should target. No card details and nothing to commit to.

The same tutor at the same hour each week, following the school's scheme of work, with the plan re-cut at the investigation deadline and again before the papers. Slots shift for Ramadan as a calendar change.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

Beliefs diagnosed, not explanations repeated

Most recurring physics errors are stable models of the world rather than gaps, and they survive competent reteaching. Finding the belief and confronting it with a case it cannot explain is slower and is the only method that works.

Five themes with the extensions named

Higher Level sits inside the themes rather than after them, and what it mainly adds is sustained reasoning on unfamiliar ground. That is a different demand from more facts, and it needs persistence practice rather than more content.

The cross-cutting skills treated as content

Uncertainty, propagation, uncertainty bars, linearisation and gradient interpretation appear on every data question and belong to no theme, which is exactly why they go unrevised by conscientious students.

Physics separated from its mathematics

Transposition, prefixes and proportional reasoning account for a large share of lost physics marks, and no amount of further physics teaching touches them. Ten minutes of manipulation per session does.

The investigation treated as physics

It fails on measurement precision more often than on topic choice. Estimating the size of the effect against the instrument's resolution before committing prevents data too noisy to support any conclusion.

Only claims we can evidence

No promised grades, no examiner claims, no distributed papers, no KHDA, ADEK, MoE or IB approval, no UAE premises, no home visits in the UAE and no statistic without its source.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Green Community: your questions answered

Why does reteaching a physics topic not improve my child's marks?+

Because the problem is often a belief rather than a gap. A student may hold a working model of the world - that a force is needed to keep something moving, that current is used up round a circuit - which produces correct predictions in everyday life and wrong answers in physics. A lesson that contradicts it teaches the formal answer for the test and leaves the belief intact. What displaces it is being asked to predict first, then being shown the case the belief cannot explain, and working through the contradiction.

How is the current IB physics syllabus organised into themes?+

The guide organises content into themes covering space, time and motion; the particulate nature of matter; wave behaviour; fields; and nuclear and quantum physics, with Higher Level extensions sitting inside each theme rather than appended after it. Each theme makes a different demand: representation before computation in the first, unit and scale discipline in the second, precision of language in the third, abstraction plus sign conventions in the fourth, and volume recalled accurately in the fifth. Confirm the current structure against your school's subject guide.

Which IB physics theme causes most trouble in this catchment?+

Fields, consistently, and for a structural reason rather than a difficulty of content. It asks a student to hold an abstract model - a field as a property of space - together with a sign convention, while a calculation proceeds. Errors appear mid-working and are invisible afterwards. Nuclear and quantum physics causes a different problem: it is dense rather than hard and usually taught late, so it is the theme most likely to be unfinished when the mock papers arrive and the content window has closed.

My child thinks current gets used up in a circuit. Is that common?+

Very, and it is one of the most durable misconceptions in the subject. It produces answers in which the current after a lamp is smaller than before it, and it makes every series and parallel question unreliable. The exposure is simple: ask what two ammeters placed either side of a lamp would read, and have the student commit to a prediction before measuring or calculating. Working through why charge is conserved while energy is transferred is what replaces the belief, and it takes a session rather than a sentence.

Are my child's physics marks lost to physics or to maths?+

Frequently to the mathematics inside the physics, and separating the two is one of the more useful things a first session does. Three skills account for most of it: transposing a relationship quickly, which decides whether the later parts of a multi-part question are reachable; handling powers of ten and prefixes, where a misplaced nano produces an answer wrong by a factor of a thousand; and proportional reasoning, where substituting full numbers costs time a ratio would have saved. None of those improve with more physics teaching.

How do multiple-choice physics questions catch students out?+

The distractors are built from the standard misconceptions and the common algebraic slips, so an option that feels obviously right is often the designed trap for a student holding one of those beliefs. An outward force in circular motion, a smaller current after a lamp, a latent heat question answered with a temperature change: each has a waiting option. The remedy is to work the physics rather than recognise the question shape, which costs a few seconds per question and is the cheapest marks available on that section.

What does "explain" mean in an IB physics question?+

A causal chain written in words: this changes, which causes that, which produces the stated outcome. A correct formula is not a chain, and neither is a restatement of the question in physics vocabulary. Both are extremely common among students arriving from IGCSE, where a correct substitution usually carried the mark, and both earn part marks at best. The drill is to take explanation questions only, strip the numbers out, and require linked clauses with no equations permitted, then add the equation back as supporting detail.

Can a tutor help with the physics investigation without breaching IB rules?+

Yes, within a firm boundary. A tutor can help narrow the research question, check that the expected effect is measurable with the school's apparatus, teach the physics involved, explain each criterion and its mark ceiling, check whether uncertainties were derived or invented, question whether the conclusion follows from the data, and mark a draft against the descriptors. A tutor cannot write, rewrite or complete any part of it, supply the question, or produce or adjust data. Every sentence must be typed by your child.

Why do physics investigations produce unusable data?+

Usually because the expected effect is smaller than the measurement uncertainty, and nobody checked before the practical. The student collects data too noisy to support any conclusion, writes a conclusion anyway, and loses marks in both the analysis and the evaluation criteria. The check is upstream and takes twenty minutes: estimate the size of the effect the question expects, then compare it against the resolution of the instrument actually available in the school laboratory. If the effect is smaller, the question needs changing while there is still time.

Is Higher Level physics the right choice for a Green Community student?+

The honest test is tolerance for sustained unfamiliarity rather than comfort with the current content. The Higher Level extensions sit inside each theme and mainly demand reasoning across several linked steps on unfamiliar ground, which punishes a student who stops at the first part that does not resolve cleanly. A student comfortable with Standard Level material who abandons unclear questions may achieve a better grade at Standard Level, and that is a legitimate choice. Read two or three target degree entry requirements before deciding either way.

How does an online physics tutor handle diagrams?+

Better than a paper copy on a table, in practice. The commonest loss in space, time and motion is a free-body diagram never drawn, so a format where the shared screen makes drawing the default is useful rather than a compromise: the tutor draws the diagram the student skipped, and the student redraws it immediately on the same page. The whole session is also reviewable afterwards, which matters for diagram conventions that need to become automatic rather than being understood once.

How long does it take to match a physics specialist near Dubai Investments Park?+

Standard Level physics usually matches within a day. Higher Level in the second Diploma year takes two or three days, because the specialist pool is genuinely narrow and a general science tutor in front of Higher Level work is worse than a short wait. We state the expected wait at the enquiry rather than afterwards. A radius search from here for the same specialism reliably returns general science tutors, because Higher Level physics cohorts in this catchment are small and the local market grew up around other curricula.

Do you publish IB physics examination dates?+

No, deliberately. IB session and results dates cannot be confirmed from the IB by automated means, so this page names the May session as the one almost all UAE schools enter candidates for and goes no further. Cambridge and Pearson dates are published and we cite those where relevant. For your child's actual dates, the school's Diploma coordinator holds both the external session dates and the internal investigation deadline, and the internal one usually drives the term plan more than the external one does.

What is the fastest way to gain physics marks before the papers?+

Three things, in order. Uncertainty and graph handling, because they appear on every data question, belong to no theme and are therefore the least revised content in the course. Command-term depth, because a student answering every question at one depth loses the high-tariff marks consistently. And transposition speed, because it decides whether the later parts of multi-part questions are reachable. All three are behaviours rather than content, which is why they move in weeks while a missing theme does not.

Send a script and let someone find the belief

If you are looking for an IB physics tutor in Green Community, the useful first step is not naming the theme that went badly. Send the level, the school and a photograph of your child's most recent marked script, or the current investigation draft if that is the live deadline. A physics specialist reads it for the two things that actually matter: which beliefs are producing the wrong answers, and whether the losses are physics or the mathematics inside it. Then a free one-to-one trial lesson online at a Gulf Standard Time hour that fits the short school run here, with a written diagnosis at the end.
