IGCSE Maths Tutor in Green Community

An IGCSE maths tutor in Green Community should be able to say which paper a topic appears on and what shape the question takes when it does. Bounds of accuracy, algebraic fractions, graph transformations and vector proof each fail in their own particular way. IB Gram matches to Cambridge 0580 or Edexcel 4MA1 and teaches live, one-to-one, online on Gulf Standard Time.

  • Topic-to-paper mapping, so revision targets the question shape
  • Matched to Cambridge 0580 or Pearson 4MA1, route and tier confirmed

IB & IGCSE in Green Community

Revision by chapter, examination by question shape

Textbooks are organised by topic and papers are not. A paper asks about bounds of accuracy by giving a measurement to the nearest centimetre and asking for the maximum possible area. It asks about graph transformations by giving a sketch and an equation and asking which transformation maps one to the other. It asks about vectors by giving a diagram and asking for a one-line geometric reason. None of those three are prepared for by rereading the relevant chapter.

That mismatch is the single most common reason a conscientious Year 11 in this catchment revises for a fortnight and scores the same mark. The content was already mostly in place. What was missing was fluency in the shapes the questions take, and the only way to build that is to attempt the shapes and have somebody mark them against the official scheme.

So this page works through the syllabus by question shape rather than by chapter. It maps the topic areas onto the papers they appear in, sets out the ten calculation types that recur across almost every series, names the specific place each topic sheds marks, and describes a past-paper cycle organised by topic rather than by whole paper.

The first thing it needs from you is the code. Cambridge IGCSE Mathematics 0580 divides candidates into a Core route sitting Papers 1 and 3 and an Extended route sitting Papers 2 and 4, with the Core route capping the attainable grade. Pearson Edexcel International GCSE Mathematics A 4MA1 runs two equally weighted papers across Foundation and Higher tiers. Those are different papers with different emphases, and preparing for the wrong one wastes weeks.

The second thing it needs is the route or tier, and that matters more than most pages admit. A Cambridge Core candidate is not examined on graph transformations, vector proof, the harder trigonometry or Extended-level algebraic fractions at all. Those topics cannot appear on their papers. A tutor teaching them anyway is spending a student's limited weeks on material the examiner will never ask about, while the bounds, ratio, mensuration and percentage work that the Core papers return to repeatedly goes unpractised. Confirming the route is therefore part of the teaching plan rather than paperwork.

Green Community makes a practical difference to one part of this. The community sits inside Dubai Investments Park, low-rise and walkable, with schools close by, and the local market has reasonable depth at IGCSE mathematics because 37% of Dubai's private pupils are on a UK curriculum. Where it thins out immediately is Additional Mathematics 0606 and Pearson's Further Pure 4PM1, for which a radius search here commonly returns nobody at all.

IB Gram teaches live, one-to-one, over video on Gulf Standard Time. We do not offer home visits anywhere in the UAE; in-home tutoring is a service we run only in India. For mathematics the format suits the work, because the session is a shared surface with the tutor writing a line and the student writing the next.

At a glance

  • Papers ask by question shape, not by chapter; revision usually prepares the wrong thing
  • Cambridge 0580 splits Core and Extended; Pearson 4MA1 splits Foundation and Higher
  • Ten calculation types recur across almost every series
  • Additional Mathematics 0606 and Further Pure 4PM1 have almost no local supply
  • No IB Gram home visits in the UAE; in-home tutoring runs only in India
IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Four things a Green Community maths student may be entered for, and each one changes which topics can be examined and how.

0580CAges 14-16 · Years 10-11

Cambridge 0580, Core route

Core candidates sit Papers 1 and 3, covering a reduced topic list with the harder Extended-only material excluded. The route caps the maximum attainable grade, which is its purpose rather than a defect, and it suits a student who could not access the Extended paper meaningfully.

The practical consequence for tutoring is that some topics are genuinely off the table. A Core candidate does not need graph transformations or vector proof, and time spent on them is time taken from the bounds, ratio and mensuration work that the Core papers actually ask about repeatedly.

0580EAges 14-16 · Years 10-11

Cambridge 0580, Extended route

Extended candidates sit Papers 2 and 4, a shorter paper and a longer one, with the full topic list including algebraic fractions, functions and transformations, vectors, more demanding trigonometry and the harder probability work. Full grade range available.

Most students in this catchment heading for A Level or IB Diploma mathematics are on this route, and the two-paper split matters: Paper 2 rewards speed and accuracy on shorter items, Paper 4 rewards sustained multi-part work. Practising only one of them produces a lopsided result.

4MA1Ages 14-16 · Years 10-11

Pearson Edexcel 4MA1

Mathematics A, examined through two papers of equal weight at Foundation or Higher tier. The tier sets the grade ceiling in the same way Cambridge's routes do. Examined in a May/June window and a November window, with provisional timetables published ahead and then revised.

The checkable recent dates give the rhythm: the November 2026 final timetable ran from late October to 19 November 2026, June 2026 results reached centres on 19 August 2026 and students the next day, and November 2025 results reached students on 22 January 2026.

0606Ages 15-16 · Years 10-11

Additional Mathematics and Further Pure

Cambridge 0606 and Pearson 4PM1 are separate qualifications taken alongside the main course, introducing differentiation, integration, logarithms and trigonometric identities ahead of A Level. Usually taken by students heading for A Level Mathematics, Further Mathematics or IB Higher Level.

These two codes have the thinnest specialist supply of anything in this catchment. A radius search from Green Community, Dubai Investments Park or Dubai South for a 0606 tutor commonly returns nobody usable, which is the clearest case here where the delivery model changes the outcome rather than the price.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

Below is the syllabus by topic area, with the question shape each one takes and the specific place marks go. These are the patterns our tutors see in marked papers from the schools serving this catchment.

Bounds and limits of accuracy

All routes and tiers

A measurement given to the nearest unit, then a maximum or minimum area, speed or density wanted. Students use the stated value rather than the bound, or pair a maximum numerator with a maximum denominator when the minimum was needed.

Algebraic fractions

Extended and Higher

Simplifying, adding and solving with factorisable numerators and denominators. Marks go on cancelling across an addition rather than after combining, which is an error that produces a tidy wrong answer.

Simultaneous equations, one linear one quadratic

Extended and Higher

Substitution then a quadratic, usually with two valid solution pairs. Candidates solve for one variable and stop, forfeiting the marks for the second pair and for pairing the values correctly.

Functions and graph transformations

Extended and Higher

Translations, reflections and stretches, composite and inverse functions. Transformations applied in the wrong order is the dominant loss, and it is a rule to be memorised rather than a concept to be grasped.

Vectors and geometric reasoning

Extended and Higher

Column and position vectors, then a short reason explaining why two vectors are parallel or three points collinear. Students compute the vector correctly and omit the one-line reason that carries the mark.

Trigonometry beyond right angles

Extended and Higher

Sine and cosine rules, area of a triangle, bearings and three-dimensional problems. The recurring loss is a diagram never drawn, so the calculation is attempted from the text and the wrong angle is used.

Probability without replacement

All routes and tiers

Tree diagrams with changing denominators, then combined outcomes. Candidates write the fractions correctly, multiply along one branch, and forget to add the other mutually exclusive path.

Cumulative frequency and box plots

All routes and tiers

Reading medians, quartiles and interquartile range off a curve, then interpreting the spread. Interpretation sentences carry marks, and a correct quartile with no statement of meaning earns less than it should.

Mensuration and compound shapes

All routes and tiers

Volumes and surface areas of composite solids, often with a unit conversion embedded. Marks go on cubic and square conversion factors applied as if they were linear.

Ratio, proportion and percentage change

All routes and tiers

Reverse percentages, repeated change and ratio splitting in context. Reverse percentage is the single most reliable source of lost marks at Core and Foundation, and it is a four-session fix.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three formats, all organised around topics and question shapes rather than around a general sense that maths needs work.

Single-topic repair blocks

Four to six sessions on one topic area, worked only through the question shapes that topic actually takes in the paper. Bounds, reverse percentages, graph transformations, probability without replacement: each has a characteristic form, and practising the form beats rereading the chapter.

  • One topic, a fixed number of sessions, a stated end point
  • Question types drawn from the relevant paper only
  • Marked against the official scheme each session
  • Finishes when the topic stops losing marks on scripts

Paper-specific technique work

Separate preparation for the short paper and the long one, because they reward different behaviour. Cambridge Paper 2 and Pearson's shorter items reward speed and accuracy; Paper 4 and the extended items reward sustained multi-part work and carrying a partial result forward.

  • Short-item sets under tight timing
  • Long multi-part questions worked to the final part
  • A rule about never abandoning part (b)
  • Written record of which paper type leaks marks

Whole-syllabus rebuilding

Term-long weekly work where Year 9 foundations did not hold. Slower and less satisfying than topic work, and the only honest answer when algebraic fluency is missing, because every topic sitting above it will keep failing until it is fixed.

  • Starts below the current year group, deliberately
  • Algebra and rearrangement rebuilt before new topics
  • Hand arithmetic maintained where the paper requires it
  • Progress measured on timed questions, not chapters

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Green Community

01

The syllabus mapped onto the papers that examine it

Knowing which paper a topic appears on changes how it should be practised. On Cambridge 0580 the Extended candidate meets most topics twice: once as a short item on Paper 2 and once embedded inside a longer multi-part question on Paper 4. Those two encounters test different things. The short item tests whether the method is automatic. The long question tests whether the student can hold a thread through several linked steps while the arithmetic gets messier.

Pearson 4MA1 distributes the same content differently, across two papers of equal weight, which removes the short-and-long distinction and replaces it with a more even demand. For a tutor that changes the practice diet: less emphasis on sprinting through short items, more on consistent accuracy across a full paper with no easier half to bank marks in.

The Core and Foundation routes narrow the topic list rather than softening it, and that narrowing is useful information. A Core candidate does not need graph transformations, vector proof or the harder trigonometry, and a tutor who teaches those anyway is spending the student's limited weeks on content the paper cannot ask about. Confirming the route is therefore not administrative tidiness; it determines what belongs in the plan.

Our first request from a Green Community family is the exam entry statement or a photograph of a past paper, because both carry the code and the route. One photograph settles what will be examined, in what form, on which paper, and it prevents the most expensive mistake available in maths tutoring.

Ten calculations that recur in almost every series

Across series, a small set of calculation types appears again and again, and a student who is automatic at all ten has removed most of the avoidable losses on either board. They are worth listing because they cut across topic boundaries, which is exactly why chapter-based revision misses them.

The ten: reverse percentage; repeated percentage change; ratio splitting in context; upper and lower bounds in a compound measure; unit conversion in two and three dimensions; rearranging a formula where the subject appears twice; solving a quadratic by factorising and by formula; the sine and cosine rules with a diagram drawn first; probability along and across tree branches; and reading an estimate from a cumulative frequency curve with an interpretation sentence attached.

None of those is conceptually hard and all of them are time-sensitive in an examination. A student who has to reconstruct the method for reverse percentage loses ninety seconds and often the mark; a student for whom it is automatic loses neither. That is the difference between knowing a topic and being fluent in it, and fluency is built by repetition with marking rather than by understanding something once.

The practical plan is unglamorous. A short set of these ten, mixed rather than grouped, marked by somebody who is not the student, once a week for six weeks. Mixing matters: grouped practice lets the student know which method to reach for before reading the question, which is exactly the help the paper will not give them.

Where each topic actually sheds marks, in detail

  • Bounds: decide which bound each part of the expression needs, before calculating
  • Algebraic fractions: combine, then factorise, then cancel - never cancel first
  • Transformations: the order is a rule to memorise, not a concept to derive
  • Vectors: write the one-line geometric reason, every time
  • Probability trees: multiply along, then add across the valid paths

Bounds is the clearest example of a topic that fails for a reason nothing in the chapter addresses. A length is given as 12 centimetres to the nearest centimetre and the question asks for the maximum possible area of a rectangle. The student uses 12. Or, worse, correctly identifies the upper bound for both dimensions when the question asked for a minimum density, where the maximum mass and the minimum volume were needed. That is a reasoning error about which bound goes where, and it is drillable in three sessions.

Algebraic fractions fails by cancelling too early. Faced with two fractions to add, the student cancels a factor that appears in one numerator and the other denominator before combining, producing a clean-looking answer that is wrong. The rule - combine first, then factorise, then cancel - is easy to state and needs enforcing, because the premature cancellation feels like efficiency.

Graph transformations fails on order. Two transformations applied in the wrong sequence produce a different image, and the student who knows what each transformation does individually still gets the composite wrong. This is a rule to memorise, not an insight to reach, and treating it as the latter wastes sessions.

Vectors fails on the reason rather than the computation. Students reach the correct column vector and then write nothing, when the mark is for saying that two vectors are multiples of one another and therefore parallel, or that three points are collinear because two vectors between them share a point and a direction. One sentence, consistently omitted. Trigonometry beyond right angles fails on the missing diagram, and probability without replacement fails on adding, not multiplying.

04

A past-paper cycle organised by topic, not by paper

Most students in this catchment have already done past papers, often many, and their mark has not moved. The reason is nearly always that whole papers were sat untimed, self-marked and filed. Whole-paper practice has a place and it is late in the preparation; earlier, it hides the cause behind a total.

A topic-organised cycle gives different information. Pull ten questions on one topic from several series, sit them under timing, and have them marked against the official scheme. The result is not a score but a diagnosis: the method is secure and the arithmetic is not, or the reverse, or the question is being misread, or a particular sub-type within the topic is the only one failing. That is actionable in a way that a paper total never is.

The marking has to be external, and this is the part students cannot do for themselves. Self-marking systematically over-rewards, because the student knows what they intended to write and reads their own shorthand generously. An examiner-literate reader marks what is on the page: no method line, no method mark; a bound used instead of the stated value, no mark; an unexplained value from the calculator, nothing. Seeing that applied three times changes the behaviour.

On sources: Cambridge and Pearson papers, mark schemes, grade-boundary tables and specifications are copyright material. We reference and link the official sources on cambridgeinternational.org and qualifications.pearson.com and work from the copies the school is licensed to provide. We do not host, supply or distribute them, and a service offering a complete paper library is worth declining on that basis.

The route and tier decision, in topic terms

Most pages discuss Core against Extended, or Foundation against Higher, in terms of grade ceilings. That matters, and the topic consequence matters too, because it changes what a student has to learn at all. A Core candidate is not examined on graph transformations, vector proof, the harder trigonometry or algebraic fractions at the Extended level, and that is a materially smaller body of work.

Read that way, the decision becomes concrete rather than emotional. For a student who can access Extended questions but is losing marks to unwritten method, early rounding and abandoned multi-part questions, moving to Core removes topics they could have learned and caps a grade they could have reached. For a student who cannot begin most Extended questions, Core removes content that was never going to produce marks and concentrates the available weeks on bounds, ratio, mensuration and percentage work that the Core papers ask about repeatedly.

The evidence should be two timed papers, one at each route, marked externally against the official scheme. That takes two hours of a student's week and it replaces a judgement about workload with a judgement about marks. A tutor can tell you from those two scripts whether the losses are habits, which move in weeks, or inaccessibility, which does not.

Then read the destination. Both A Level and IB Diploma routes exist within this catchment, and the mathematics entry grades are usually among the highest a sixth form publishes. Some of them cannot be reached from a Core or Foundation entry. The entry deadline for a route change is set by the school and it arrives earlier than families expect, so the question is worth asking in Year 10 rather than in Year 11.

What IGCSE maths tutoring costs around Green Community

Published Dubai figures, read October 2026 and attributed to whoever published them. Tutopiya advertises from about AED 33-52 an hour and EdFlik from AED 45-65, both online. Unitors publishes IGCSE tuition from AED 150 online. Dubai rate guidance puts in-home one-to-one at AED 180-350, with independent home tutors advertising up to AED 500. Specialist exam-year work is published at AED 200-450 and above, TutorChase quotes around AED 270, and BartyED publishes AED 650.

Monthly figures are usually more useful for a household plan. Dubai rate guidance estimates a weekly one-hour session at roughly AED 240-600 a month at the budget end, AED 600-1,200 in the middle and AED 1,000-2,000 and above for specialist exam-year support. Packages visible in the market include around AED 799 a month for eight online sessions and AED 1,599-1,799 a month for four two-hour in-home visits.

For mathematics specifically, the mid band is where the useful people mostly are, and the premium bands buy something narrower than families expect. What separates the middle of the band from the bottom of it is usually mark-scheme literacy: knowing that the bound question pays for choosing the right bound rather than for the arithmetic, and marking accordingly. What separates the top of the in-home band from the middle of the online one is frequently a journey.

None of these are IB Gram prices and this page carries no rate card, because the fee depends on the course and level and is quoted after the free trial lesson. The bands are published so that a quote can be judged against something real, which is more than three of the pages ranking for this search allow, and two of the rest quote US dollars to families who pay in dirhams.

Online one-to-one maths from Green Community, limits included

Mathematics transfers to video unusually well because the work is a shared writing surface. The tutor writes a line, the student writes the next, both see the same page, and the whole session is reviewable afterwards. For marking a script together it is better than a single paper copy across a table, since both people can annotate the same mark line at the same moment.

The scheduling gain is real and specific to this subject. A 4.30pm session catches a student who can still rearrange an equation accurately. A 6.15pm session, after a tutor has crossed the city, catches one who makes sign and transposition errors. Parents frequently read those errors as weak mathematics, buy content help, and are puzzled when nothing changes.

IB Gram offers no home visits in the UAE. In-home tutoring is a service we run only in India, and this page says so near the top rather than leaving it to be discovered after a booking, because two providers ranking for UAE searches route parents to an Indian phone number without disclosing that delivery is remote.

The honest limits: a student who will not begin work without an adult physically present does better in person; a weak connection shortens the hour whatever the invoice says; and a shared study space, more common in the apartment blocks here than in the villas, undermines the lesson because the tutor cannot manage the room. If one of those applies, hire locally and ask about the MoHRE private tuition work permit before the first lesson.

08

Permits, equivalency and how to start

  • MoHRE private tuition work permit, granted free of charge for two years
  • Maths is nearly always one of the five subjects equivalency counts
  • Official papers and mark schemes linked, never distributed
  • No KHDA, ADEK, MoE, Cambridge or Pearson approval claimed, because we hold none
  • Send the code, the route and one marked paper to start

Private tutoring in the UAE requires a permit. The private tuition work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023 and is issued through the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation, and the UAE government states it is granted free of charge for two years. Eligible applicants include registered school teachers, government and private-sector employees, unemployed residents, university students and school students aged 15 to 18. Tutoring without one carries fines and penalties under the applicable laws, with no published schedule, so no amount should be quoted to you. Never arrange paid tuition with your child's own class teacher.

On equivalency, mathematics matters more than most subjects because it is nearly always one of the counted five. The published British-track rule requires five accredited subjects in GCSE or IGCSE certificates at a grade of no less than E or grade 3, plus one accredited Advanced Level subject at no less than grade E or two Advanced Subsidiary subjects at the same grade, with Arabic and Islamic education excluded from the five. One page ranking in this market states the figure as six, which is not what the published rule says.

What we do not claim: IB Gram is not KHDA approved, a KHDA Educational Services Permit being issued to training institutes with physical premises that we neither hold nor occupy. We claim no ADEK, MoE, MoHRE, Cambridge or Pearson accreditation or partnership, publish no self-asserted rating, promise no grade or improvement figure, and quote no statistic without its source and date.

To start, send the syllabus code, the route or tier, the year group and a photograph of the most recent marked paper. The paper carries the code on its front cover if you do not have it to hand. A specialist on that specification then teaches a free one-to-one trial lesson online built on that paper, ending in a written note of which topics and which question shapes are costing marks. The note is yours whether or not you continue, and if nobody suitable is free at your hour we say so and offer alternatives.

Where we tutor

Green Community and the schools around it

These communities share a school set and an IGCSE mathematics market with reasonable depth at the main codes and almost none at the additional ones.

Green Community

Low-rise villas, townhouses and apartments on landscaped lanes with a small retail centre and several schools nearby, giving an unusually short school run.

Dubai Investments Park

The larger district Green Community sits inside, holding most of the catchment's school capacity across four or five curricula.

Jebel Ali

The industrial district to the west around the port and free zone, where evening port-road congestion deters tutors travelling in from elsewhere.

Al Furjan

Metro-connected villas and townhouses north of here, with the deepest in-home maths supply in the cluster and the most Year 10 enquiries.

Discovery Gardens

Dense apartments with very mixed home languages, where word-problem comprehension appears in requests more often than elsewhere in the catchment.

Dubai South

Large and new around the Expo site and Al Maktoum airport, where in-home tutors decline or surcharge bookings at this distance.

Emaar South

Golf-course villas deep inside Dubai South, where a tutor arriving by car cannot start before the student's accuracy has already dropped.

The Sustainable City

A planned low-energy community with its own IB school, so some families here compare an IGCSE route against an MYP one within the same catchment.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in Green Community

IGCSE maths centres near Green Community

These schools enter most of the IGCSE mathematics candidates in this catchment. Boards differ between them, and a single school may use Core and Extended routes across different sets, so the entry statement rather than the school name is what a tutor needs.

  • Dove Green Private School
  • The Winchester School, Jebel Ali
  • The Arbor School, Al Furjan
  • Sunmarke School, Al Furjan
  • South View School, Remraam
  • GEMS Founders School, Dubai South

Other systems on the same streets

A large share of children here sit CBSE, American or SABIS mathematics, or MYP criteria out of eight. Parents comparing maths tutoring notes with a neighbour are frequently comparing unrelated assessment systems.

  • Nibras International School
  • The International School of Choueifat Dubai
  • Delhi Private School Dubai
  • Bright Riders School, Dubai Investments Park
  • Greenfield International School, Dubai Investments Park
  • Fairgreen International School, The Sustainable City

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Confirm the code and the route

Cambridge 0580 Core or Extended, Pearson 4MA1 Foundation or Higher. The route determines which topics can be examined at all, so teaching graph transformations to a Core candidate is time taken from what the paper will ask.

  2. 02

    Send one marked paper

A photograph carries the code and the evidence. It shows whether the losses are in a particular topic, in a question shape across topics, or in arithmetic under time, and those are three different plans.

  3. 03

Work by topic, then by paper type

Ten questions on one topic from several series, under timing, marked externally. That produces a diagnosis within the topic rather than a score. Whole-paper practice comes later, once the topic lists are clean.

  4. 04

    Free diagnostic trial lesson online

A real one-to-one lesson with the matched specialist on the paper you sent, ending in a written note naming the topics and question shapes costing marks. No card details and nothing to commit to beforehand.

  5. 05

    Weekly slot, reviewed on evidence

A fixed Gulf Standard Time hour each week, with progress measured against externally marked timed questions rather than against a sense that things are going better. Slots shift for Ramadan and exam weeks as a calendar change.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

Topics mapped to the papers that examine them

Knowing whether a topic appears as a short item or inside a long multi-part question changes how it should be practised, and the Core and Foundation routes remove some topics entirely. That is planning information, not administrative detail.

The ten recurring calculations named

Reverse percentage, bounds in a compound measure, rearranging with the subject twice and seven others appear across almost every series, cut across chapter boundaries, and are therefore exactly what chapter-based revision misses.

Topic cycles instead of whole papers

A paper total hides the cause behind a number. Ten questions on one topic, timed and externally marked, produces a diagnosis inside the topic, which is the only thing the following week can act on.

External marking as the mechanism

Self-marking over-rewards because the student knows what they meant to write. Someone marking what is actually on the page is what turns a vague sense of underperformance into a short, ranked list of fixable behaviours.

Narrow codes become coverable

Additional Mathematics 0606 and Further Pure 4PM1 have almost no local supply in this catchment, and a radius search commonly returns nobody. Online they are matchable in two or three days.

Figures and rules cited, never asserted

AED bands are attributed to their publishers with the month read, the equivalency rule is quoted from its source, and we claim no regulator approval because we hold none.

Student and parent reviews

What students and parents say about working with IB Gram

Practical feedback on tutor fit, revision structure and communication from IB and IGCSE families we have taught.

“Every session has been a positive learning experience. The students are progressing well, becoming more confident, and showing a genuine interest in learning.”

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Green Community: your questions answered

Why has revision not improved my child's IGCSE maths mark?+

Usually because revision is organised by chapter and the paper is organised by question shape. A paper asks about bounds by giving a measurement to the nearest unit and wanting a maximum area; it asks about vectors by wanting a one-line geometric reason after the computation. Rereading the chapter prepares for neither. What moves the mark is attempting the shapes under timing and having them marked against the official scheme by someone who is not the student, which produces a diagnosis rather than a score.

What are bounds questions and why do they cost so many marks?+

A quantity is given to a stated accuracy - 12 centimetres to the nearest centimetre - and the question wants a maximum or minimum of something derived from it. Two errors recur. The student uses the stated value rather than the bound. Or they identify both bounds correctly and pair them wrongly, taking two maxima when a minimum density needed the maximum mass and the minimum volume. It is a reasoning error about which bound belongs where, and three focused sessions normally removes it.

Does the Core route actually remove topics, or just cap the grade?+

Both, and the topic consequence is the one families overlook. A Cambridge Core candidate is not examined on graph transformations, vector proof, the harder trigonometry or Extended-level algebraic fractions, which is a materially smaller body of work. That makes the route decision concrete: for a student who cannot access Extended questions, Core concentrates the available weeks on bounds, ratio, mensuration and percentage work the Core papers ask about repeatedly. For a student losing marks to habits, it removes content they could have learned.

Why does my child lose vector marks when the working is right?+

Because the mark is usually for the reason rather than the computation. A question asks for a column vector and then asks what that tells you about two lines or three points. The expected answer is one sentence: the vectors are multiples of one another and therefore parallel, or three points are collinear because two vectors between them share a point and a direction. Students compute correctly and write nothing. It is the most consistently omitted single sentence in the Extended papers, and it is trained in two sessions.

Which maths topics should a Year 11 in this catchment prioritise?+

The ten calculations that recur across almost every series, because they cut across chapters and therefore escape chapter-based revision: reverse percentage, repeated percentage change, ratio in context, bounds in a compound measure, unit conversion in two and three dimensions, rearranging where the subject appears twice, quadratics by factorising and by formula, sine and cosine rules with a diagram drawn first, probability along and across tree branches, and reading a cumulative frequency estimate with an interpretation sentence attached.

Should past papers be done whole or by topic?+

By topic first, whole later. A whole paper gives you a total, and a total hides the cause. Ten questions on one topic drawn from several series, sat under timing and marked externally, tells you whether the method is secure and the arithmetic is not, whether a particular sub-type is the only failure, or whether the question is simply being misread. Whole papers belong in the last few weeks, once the topic lists are clean, to test stamina and timing rather than to diagnose.

Why is self-marking a problem for maths practice?+

Because the student knows what they intended to write and reads their own shorthand generously. A missing method line, an unexplained value taken from the calculator, a bound used where the stated value belonged: all pass unnoticed, because the intention was right. An examiner-literate reader marks what is on the page, and seeing two marks withheld for the same reason three times is what changes the behaviour. Self-study plus periodic external marking is a genuinely economical arrangement that very few families use.

My child cancels algebraic fractions and gets them wrong. What is happening?+

Almost certainly cancelling before combining. Faced with two fractions to add, the student spots a common factor between one numerator and the other denominator and cancels it, producing a tidy answer that is wrong. The premature cancellation feels like efficiency, which is why it persists. The rule is combine first, then factorise, then cancel, and it needs enforcing rather than explaining: the student writes the combined single fraction every time before any simplification is allowed.

How do we find an Additional Mathematics 0606 tutor near Dubai Investments Park?+

Locally, with real difficulty. Cambridge 0606 and Pearson's Further Pure 4PM1 have the thinnest specialist supply of any code in this catchment, because few students take them and fewer tutors cover the calculus, logarithm and trigonometric identity content properly. A radius search from Green Community, Dubai Investments Park or Dubai South commonly returns nobody usable. Online those codes are coverable, though matching takes two to three days rather than one, and we state the expected wait at the enquiry.

Is Cambridge Paper 2 or Paper 4 the one to practise?+

Both, separately, because they reward different behaviour. Paper 2 is a shorter paper that rewards speed and automatic method on self-contained items. Paper 4 rewards sustained multi-part work, carrying a partial result forward when one part does not resolve cleanly, and holding accuracy as the arithmetic gets messier. A student who practises only one produces a lopsided result. On Pearson 4MA1 the two papers carry equal weight, which removes the distinction and replaces it with a demand for even accuracy throughout.

Does maths count towards the five subjects UAE equivalency requires?+

In practice it almost always does, which is another reason to take the route decision seriously. The published British-track rule requires five accredited subjects in GCSE or IGCSE certificates at a grade of no less than E or grade 3, plus one Advanced Level subject at no less than grade E or two Advanced Subsidiary subjects at the same grade, with Arabic and Islamic education excluded from the five. One page ranking in this market states the figure as six subjects, which is not what the published rule says. Verify through the Ministry.

How many sessions does it take to fix one maths topic?+

Usually four to six for a single topic, and the number varies with what kind of failure it is. Reverse percentage and bounds take three or four because the error is about reasoning rather than arithmetic. Unit conversion in two and three dimensions takes about two, because it is a single rule. Rearranging a formula where the subject appears twice takes three. What matters more than the count is that the block has a defined end point, so the pressure that makes a habit change actually stick is present.

Can online lessons really work for a visual subject like geometry?+

Yes, and arguably better than sitting alongside, because the shared writing surface means the tutor can draw the diagram the student skipped and the student can redraw it immediately on the same page. Trigonometry beyond right angles fails most often because no diagram was drawn, so a format that makes drawing the default is useful rather than a compromise. The whole session is also reviewable afterwards, which a sheet of paper on a dining table is not.

Will our maths slot survive Ramadan in Green Community?+

It will move and it should not pause. School hours shorten during Ramadan and households reorganise their evening around iftar, so a weekday 5pm slot typically becomes early afternoon or post-iftar for the month. For mathematics, protect the frequency over the length: fluency decays faster than content knowledge, and two shorter sessions a week hold more than one long one while a student is fasting. Because nobody is travelling to your address, the change is a shared-diary adjustment rather than a renegotiation of a commute.

Send the code, the route and one marked paper

If you are looking for an IGCSE maths tutor in Green Community, the fastest route past generic help is to work from the syllabus rather than from a feeling. Send the syllabus code, the route or tier and a photograph of your child's most recent marked paper. A specialist on that specification reads it, names which topics and which question shapes are shedding marks, and teaches a free one-to-one trial lesson online at a Gulf Standard Time hour that fits the short school run here. The written diagnosis is yours whether or not you continue, and there is no card required to book.
