IB MYP Tutor in Green Community

An IB MYP tutor in Green Community is most useful when the help is matched to the year rather than to the subject. MYP 1 to 3 are for fluency, MYP 4 for evidence, and MYP 5 for the Personal Project and a decision that closes earlier than families expect. IB Gram teaches live, one-to-one, online on Gulf Standard Time.

  • Support matched to the MYP year, not only to the weak subject
  • The Personal Project planned backwards from its school deadline

IB & IGCSE in Green Community

The MYP has five years and they are not interchangeable

The Middle Years Programme has no external examinations for most students, which makes all five years feel the same from outside. They are not. Each one has a job, and tutoring that ignores which year a student is in tends to do the right work at the wrong time, which in a programme this long is an expensive mistake to repeat.

MYP 1 to 3 are for fluency and habits. There are no certificates attached and no external deadlines, which is precisely why gaps form unnoticed: arithmetic that stays slow, reading stamina that never builds, writing that is never produced to a clock. None of it is examined, so none of it is flagged, and all of it surfaces later as something that looks like a subject weakness.

MYP 4 is for evidence. It is the last year in which a criterion profile can be read, acted on and changed before the decisions start. A student whose communication or inquiry criteria are low across several subjects has a transferable problem, and MYP 4 is when a term of work on it still has two years to pay off rather than two months.

MYP 5 is for the Personal Project and for a decision. The project has its own criteria and a school-set deadline, and the decision - IB Diploma, Career-related Programme, or a move to an IGCSE and A Level route - is usually taken on predicted grades partway through the year, before the project is even finished. Both of those have dates, and neither waits for a family to feel ready.

Green Community makes the sequence easy to picture because everything else here is close. The community sits inside Dubai Investments Park, low-rise and walkable, with schools within a short drive, and two of the schools serving it run an IB continuum from the Primary Years Programme through to the Diploma. A child here may spend fourteen years inside IB assessment language, and the five MYP years sit in the middle of that.

There is one more calendar feature worth naming before the detail, because it recurs five times rather than once. Ramadan shortens school hours and reorganises the household evening around iftar, and it moves roughly eleven days earlier each year against the Gregorian calendar, so across five MYP years a family meets it in five different positions. For an MYP 5 student it can land uncomfortably close to the Personal Project deadline. The long summer break, by contrast, is the only stretch in the whole programme with nothing competing for it, which makes it the natural window for the fluency work the early years need and for the transition work the last year needs.

IB Gram teaches live, one-to-one, over video on Gulf Standard Time. We do not offer home visits anywhere in the UAE; in-home tutoring is a service we run only in India. What follows: the five years with what each is for, the Personal Project counted backwards, when criterion data actually arrives and how to use it, when the post-MYP decision closes, and how Ramadan and the UAE school year change the plan.

At a glance

  • MYP 1 to 3 build fluency that nothing examines and everything later assumes
  • MYP 4 is the last year a criterion profile can be acted on with time to spare
  • The Personal Project has a school-set deadline and its own criteria
  • The post-MYP decision is taken partway through MYP 5, on predicted grades
  • No IB Gram home visits in the UAE; in-home tutoring runs only in India

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

The five MYP years group into three stages with genuinely different purposes, followed by the transition that tests whether the earlier stages did their job.

MYP1-3Ages 11-14 · Years 7-9

MYP 1 to 3: the fluency years

Eight subject groups, each assessed against four lettered criteria out of eight, taught through inquiry organised around global contexts and key concepts, with interdisciplinary units linking subjects. No external examinations and no certificates, so the entire record is a sequence of criterion judgements.

For families in Green Community and Dubai Investments Park this is the cheapest window in the whole school career and the one least used. Arithmetic fluency, reading stamina and writing produced against a clock all cost a term here and cost a year if left until MYP 5.

MYP4Ages 14-15 · Year 10

MYP 4: the evidence year

Subject choices begin to narrow and the criterion profile becomes genuinely informative, because there is enough of it to show a pattern. Still no external papers for most students, so the pressure remains invisible while the usefulness of the data peaks.

This is the year to find out whether a low criterion is a subject gap or an approaches-to-learning problem repeating across subjects. Acted on in MYP 4, a skills problem has two years to pay off. Discovered in the second Diploma year, it costs marks while being fixed.

MYP5Ages 15-16 · Year 11

MYP 5: the project and the decision

The Personal Project is completed, assessed against criteria covering planning, applying skills and reflecting, each marked out of eight, with a product or outcome, a process journal and a report. Some schools also enter students for optional on-screen eAssessments and ePortfolios leading to the IB MYP Certificate.

Two dates dominate this year and neither is the end of it. The Personal Project deadline is school-set and lands well before the summer. The post-MYP decision is taken on predicted grades partway through the year, which means it is made before the project has demonstrated anything.

AFTERAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

The transition out

The IB Diploma with six subjects plus Theory of Knowledge, the Extended Essay and Creativity, Activity, Service, or an IGCSE and A Level route at a UK-curriculum school nearby. Both make assumptions about what an MYP student arrives able to do.

Both routes are available within a short drive of Green Community, so this is a genuine choice. The gap to close before either is narrow and specific: writing against a clock, formal mathematical notation at speed, and recall at volume, none of which the MYP requires.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

The eight subject groups, each noted with the MYP year in which its characteristic difficulty usually appears. The year is the organising idea on this page, so the notes follow it.

Mathematics

MYP 1-5, standard and extended

Criteria cover knowledge and understanding, investigating patterns, communication, and applying mathematics in real-life contexts. The investigating criterion starts biting around MYP 3, when a general rule has to be found, justified and tested rather than an answer reached.

Sciences

MYP 1-5

Criteria cover knowledge and understanding, inquiring and designing, processing and evaluating, and reflecting on the impacts of science. The design criterion becomes the limiting factor in MYP 4, where a method another person could replicate is expected.

Language and literature

MYP 1-5

Criteria cover analysing, organising, producing text and using language. Paraphrase instead of analysis appears as early as MYP 2 and is cheapest to correct then, because it is the same habit that later limits Diploma Paper 1.

Language acquisition

MYP 1-5, phases 1-6

Criteria cover comprehending spoken and written text, communicating, and using language, organised by phase rather than year group. Phase placement should be reviewed in MYP 1 and again in MYP 3, because a misplaced phase reads as a weakness.

Individuals and societies

MYP 1-5

Criteria cover knowing and understanding, investigating, communicating and thinking critically. Source summary instead of source evaluation shows from MYP 3 onward and is the criterion that most often caps an otherwise strong profile.

Design

MYP 1-5

Criteria cover inquiring and analysing, developing ideas, creating the solution and evaluating, with the design folder assessed directly. Under-documenting starts in MYP 2 and becomes expensive by MYP 5, when the Personal Project rewards the same habit.

Arts

MYP 1-5

Criteria cover knowing and understanding, developing skills, thinking creatively and responding, with the process journal assessed. Students who work hard and record nothing lose marks the work itself earned, from the first year onward.

Physical and health education

MYP 1-5

Criteria cover knowing and understanding, planning for performance, applying and performing, and reflecting and improving performance. The planning and reflecting criteria are written work, which surprises families expecting a wholly practical subject.

The Personal Project

MYP 5

Criteria cover planning, applying skills and reflecting, each out of eight, with the process journal as the evidence base for all three. A journal reconstructed near the deadline cannot evidence a process that was not recorded as it happened.

Approaches to learning skills

MYP 1-5, across all subjects

Communication, social, self-management, research and thinking skills, taught across subjects rather than in one timetabled slot. A criterion profile low in the same way across several subjects is nearly always one of these.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three formats, each belonging to a stage of the programme. The first is the cheapest and the one families reach for last.

Fluency work in MYP 1 to 3

Weekly sessions in the years with no external deadline, building the things nothing examines: arithmetic speed, reading stamina, and writing produced to a clock. Dull, cumulative, and the reason the later years are manageable.

  • Arithmetic and manipulation by hand, timed
  • Reading stamina built on the student's own set texts
  • One piece of writing to a clock each session
  • Follows the school's unit sequence and global context

MYP 4 criterion profile review

A short block that reads the whole profile rather than the lowest number, to separate a subject gap from an approaches-to-learning pattern repeating across subjects. Delivered as a written recommendation rather than as an open-ended term.

  • Every subject's criterion pattern read together
  • Descriptors compared against the student's actual work
  • A written statement of subject gap or skills pattern
  • A recommendation that may be to buy nothing further

Personal Project process coaching

Sessions running alongside the project through MYP 5, focused on keeping a real journal and understanding what planning, applying skills and reflecting actually reward. The student plans, makes and writes everything.

  • Journal kept weekly as the work happens
  • Goal narrowed until achievable and evidenceable
  • Each criterion read against the student's own draft report
  • No drafting, rewriting or completion by the tutor

01

The five MYP years and what each one is actually for

Without external examinations, the MYP presents as a long undifferentiated stretch, and families treat all five years as the same opportunity. Separating them changes what tutoring is worth buying and when.

MYP 1 to 3 are the fluency years, and their defining feature is that nothing in them is examined externally. That is both the opportunity and the trap. A student can progress with reasonable criterion scores while arithmetic stays slow, while reading stamina never builds past a few pages, and while no piece of writing is ever produced under time pressure. None of those appear on a report, and all of them are assumed by everything that follows.

MYP 4 is the evidence year. By then there is enough criterion data to show a pattern rather than a snapshot, and the pattern is the useful part: whether low marks cluster in one subject, which is a content problem, or in one criterion type across several subjects, which is a skills problem wearing several costumes. Acting on that in MYP 4 leaves two years for it to pay off.

MYP 5 is the year of the Personal Project and the post-MYP decision, and it is busier than families expect because both land before the end of it. The project has a school-set deadline well short of the summer, and the decision about what comes next is taken on predicted grades partway through the year. A family that starts thinking about either in the spring term of MYP 5 has missed both.

02

The Personal Project counted backwards from its deadline

The Personal Project is assessed against criteria covering planning, applying skills and reflecting, each marked out of eight, with a product or outcome, a process journal and a report. All three criteria draw their evidence from the process, which means the journal is not administration; it is the assessed material.

Counted backwards, the project has four stages and the first is the one that decides the mark. The goal has to be narrowed until it is achievable with the time and resources available and until progress on it can actually be evidenced. A goal that is too large produces either an unfinished product or a quietly downgraded one, and in both cases the reflecting criterion suffers because the student ends up defending a decision rather than evaluating a process.

The second stage is the journal, kept weekly from the start. This is where most marks are lost in this catchment and the loss is entirely avoidable. A journal written in the fortnight before the deadline reads smoothly and cannot evidence what the criteria reward: decisions taken, obstacles met, approaches changed, skills acquired. A rough weekly entry recording what was tried and what failed outperforms an elegant retrospective account every time.

The third is the product or outcome itself, and the fourth is the report, which should be written against the criteria rather than as a narrative. The boundary throughout is firm: a tutor may challenge the goal, explain what each criterion rewards, teach a skill the project needs, show the student how to keep a usable journal, and read the draft report against the descriptors. A tutor may not plan it, make it, write it or edit it to completion.

THE PERSONAL PROJECT, COUNTED BACKWARDS

03

When criterion data arrives, and how to use it that term

  • Read the descriptor for the band above, not the number
  • Look across subjects before looking down one
  • A pattern repeating across subjects is usually an approaches-to-learning skill
  • The same diagnosis needs a different response in MYP 2 and MYP 5
  • Ask the school for descriptors rather than for a clearer comment

Criterion marks arrive at reporting points set by the school, and the useful question is not what they say but what can still be done with them in the time before the next ones. That is the practical difference between reading a report in MYP 2 and reading the same report in MYP 5.

The first move is always the same and takes twenty minutes. Find the criterion that scored lowest, in that subject, and read the published descriptor for the band above. The descriptor states specifically what the work would have to do differently - justify a general rule rather than state it, write a method a stranger could follow, evaluate sources against one another rather than summarise them in turn. Ask the school for the descriptors rather than for a clearer comment, because the descriptor is the specification.

The second move is to look across subjects rather than down one. Four subjects with low communication marks is one problem; two subjects with low knowledge marks is two problems. The MYP's own approaches-to-learning framework names the skill categories - communication, social, self-management, research and thinking - and a pattern repeating across subjects is almost always one of those rather than several subject gaps.

The third is to match the response to the remaining time. In MYP 2 or 3 a skills pattern can be addressed slowly, inside ordinary subject work, and it will compound. In MYP 5, with the Personal Project live and a decision approaching, the same pattern needs a short targeted block, because there is no longer room for slow compounding. The diagnosis is identical and the prescription is not.

04

eAssessment, where a school uses it, and what it changes

Some schools enter MYP 5 students for optional on-screen examinations and ePortfolios leading to the IB MYP Certificate, and some do not. Which applies is a school decision rather than a student one, and it changes the shape of MYP 5 considerably, so it is worth asking directly rather than assuming.

Where a school does enter candidates, the year acquires an external examination date it would not otherwise have, and the preparation for it is largely timed on-screen writing. That is a genuinely new demand for a student who has spent five years producing coursework against criteria, and it is also the single most useful possible preparation for whatever comes next, because both the Diploma and an A Level route assume writing to a clock from the first term.

Where a school does not enter candidates, MYP 5 ends without any external result, which has a practical consequence families should know: the student arrives at the post-MYP route with criterion grades and a Personal Project and no subject certificates. That is normal and it is accepted by IB continuum schools, and it matters when a family is considering a move to a UK-curriculum sixth form that is used to reading IGCSE results.

Either way the question to ask the school is specific: does it enter students for eAssessments, for which subjects, and when do the components fall? The answer determines whether MYP 5 contains an examination window or only an internal calendar, and that is the difference between two quite different term plans.

05

When the post-MYP decision actually closes

Families expect the Diploma or A Level decision to be made at the end of MYP 5, with results or predictions in hand. In practice it is made partway through the year, on predicted grades and criterion profiles, because schools need to build timetables and sixth forms need to issue offers. By the time the Personal Project is submitted the decision has usually been taken.

That timing has two consequences. The first is that the evidence used is the criterion profile from MYP 4 and the first part of MYP 5, which is one more reason to take MYP 4 seriously as the evidence year. The second is that any work intended to change the available options - lifting a subject profile, demonstrating readiness for a Higher Level science - has to happen before that point rather than after it.

The profile is also genuinely informative about which route suits. A student scoring well on inquiry, communication and reflection criteria is usually well placed for the Diploma, where internally assessed components and the Extended Essay reward exactly those. A student strong on knowledge criteria and weaker on the others may do better taking three or four A Levels in depth. Both routes exist within a short drive of Green Community, so this is a real choice rather than a constraint imposed by geography.

Whichever route is chosen, the gap to close is the same and it is narrow. The MYP does not require writing against a clock, formal mathematical notation at speed, or recall at volume, and both destinations assume all three from the first term. A term of timed writing, daily manipulation by hand and deliberate retrieval practice in MYP 5 removes most of the first-term shock, which is otherwise read as a capability problem rather than a preparation one.

Ramadan and the UAE school year across five MYP years

Every plan written for a UAE family has to survive Ramadan, and across five MYP years it will be encountered five times in five different positions, because Ramadan moves roughly eleven days earlier each year against the Gregorian calendar. It currently falls inside the spring term, which for an MYP 5 student can sit awkwardly close to the Personal Project deadline.

School hours shorten and households reorganise their evening around iftar, so a late-afternoon slot becomes either an early-afternoon or a post-iftar one for the month. For MYP students the thing worth protecting is the writing habit rather than the content pace: a shorter session that still produces one piece of written work holds more than a longer discussion that produces none.

The long summer break is the opportunity the MYP calendar offers and almost nobody takes. It is the only stretch with no competing demands, which makes it the natural window for fluency work in MYP 1 to 3 and for transition preparation between MYP 5 and the Diploma. A student who spends part of one summer writing to a clock arrives at the Diploma with the main gap already closed.

Because nobody is travelling to your address, all of this is a diary exercise. Moving a slot from 5pm to 2pm for a month is a change two calendars absorb. Asking an in-home tutor to shift their commute by three hours for a month is a request they may be unable to accommodate, and that asymmetry matters more over five years than over one term.

07

What MYP tutoring costs, and what is worth buying at each stage

Published Dubai figures, read October 2026 and attributed. Tutopiya advertises from about AED 33-52 an hour and EdFlik from AED 45-65, both online. Unitors publishes IGCSE tuition from AED 150 and IB from AED 200 online. Dubai rate guidance puts in-home one-to-one at AED 180-350 with independent home tutors advertising to AED 500. Specialists are published at AED 200-450 and above, TutorChase quotes around AED 270, and BartyED publishes AED 650.

The MYP is the stage where the entry band deserves a fairer hearing than it gets. For MYP 1 to 3, where the work is often arithmetic fluency, reading stamina or simply sitting down to produce something, a capable and patient tutor at the lower end can be genuinely good value. The expensive specialist adds less here than they will in three years.

What changes the calculation is criteria literacy, and it changes it sharply from MYP 4 onward. A tutor who has never read an MYP descriptor will teach content, and content is frequently not what the report is pointing at. For a criterion profile review, for the Personal Project and for transition preparation, the work is interpretive rather than instructional, and the specialist band is where those people are.

Plan it by MYP year rather than by hour, because the staging argument above has a price attached. Dubai rate guidance converts one weekly hour into roughly AED 240-600 a month at the budget end, AED 600-1,200 in the middle, and AED 1,000-2,000 and above for specialist exam-year support. Across a nine-month school year that budget band is AED 2,160-5,400 and the specialist band is AED 9,000-18,000 or more. So a family that buys the entry band through MYP 1 to 3 and moves up to the specialist band for MYP 4 and 5 pays substantially less over five years than one that commits to either tier for the whole run, and gets the better tutor at the point the descriptors start deciding the report. Advertised packages give a third reference point: around AED 799 a month for eight online sessions, and AED 1,599-1,799 for four two-hour in-home visits. None of these are IB Gram prices; our fee is quoted after the free trial lesson.

Online one-to-one across the MYP years, honestly

The format suits MYP work from about MYP 3 onward without qualification, because so much of the work is document work: a criterion descriptor beside a piece of the student's own writing, a process journal read together, a method rewritten so a stranger could follow it. A shared screen where both people annotate is better for that than a single paper copy across a table.

For MYP 1 and 2 the honest answer depends on the child rather than on the format. An eleven or twelve-year-old who will settle at a desk and engage with a screen does fine. One who needs an adult physically present to begin and to stay started does better with someone in the room, and no amount of good teaching compensates for that. We would rather say so than take the booking.

IB Gram offers no home visits in the UAE. In-home tutoring is a service we run only in India, stated near the top of this page rather than left to be discovered, because two providers ranking for UAE searches route parents to an Indian phone number without disclosing that delivery is remote. If your MYP 1 child needs a person in the room, hire locally and ask whether the tutor holds the MoHRE private tuition work permit before the first lesson.

The other practical limits apply across all five years: a weak connection shortens the hour whatever the clock says, and a shared study space, more common in the apartment blocks here than in the villas, undermines any lesson because the tutor cannot manage the room. Both are worth testing in the first fortnight rather than discovering in the second term.

09

Permits, honesty and how to start from the right year

  • MoHRE private tuition work permit, granted free of charge for two years
  • Every word of the Personal Project must be the student's own
  • No KHDA, ADEK, MoE or IB approval claimed, because we hold none
  • Tell us the MYP year before the subject; it changes what is possible
  • Send the criterion report plus one piece of marked work

Worth knowing before the first MYP session, and there is a detail inside it that surprises parents at this stage. The private tuition work permit arrived under Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, is issued through MoHRE, and the UAE government states that it is granted free of charge for two years. Look closely at who may hold one: registered school teachers, government and private-sector employees, unemployed residents, university students, and school students aged 15 to 18 - which means an MYP 5 pupil in Green Community is old enough to be licensed to tutor. That is the clearest demonstration available that the permit certifies lawfulness rather than criteria literacy, and it is why the rest of this page spends its time on descriptors instead. Tutoring without the permit carries fines and penalties under the applicable laws, with no published schedule. And whatever the permit says, never arrange paid tuition with your child's own class teacher.

On the Personal Project and every assessed MYP task, the boundary is the same as anywhere in the IB and worth stating for a fifteen-year-old's first substantial independent piece. A tutor may challenge the goal, explain what each criterion rewards, teach a skill the work needs, discuss how to keep a usable journal and read a draft against the descriptors. A tutor may not plan, make, write or edit any part of it. Every word submitted must be the student's own.

What we do not claim: IB Gram is not KHDA approved, a KHDA Educational Services Permit being issued to training institutes with physical premises that we neither hold nor occupy. We claim no ADEK, MoE, MoHRE or IB accreditation or partnership, publish no self-asserted rating, promise no grade or criterion improvement, and quote no statistic without its source and date.

To start, tell us the MYP year first, then the subject group, the school, and send the most recent criterion report with one piece of the student's marked work. The year tells us what the available time can achieve; the report tells us which criterion is low; the work tells us why. A specialist then teaches a free one-to-one trial lesson online built on that work and writes up what the descriptor and the work together showed. The note is yours whether or not you continue.

Where we tutor

Green Community and the IB provision around it

These communities share a school catchment in which IB continuum provision is concentrated in a few schools, so MYP families here often have no neighbours on the same calendar.

Green Community

Low-rise villas, townhouses and apartments on landscaped lanes with a small retail centre and several schools nearby, giving an unusually short school run for Dubai.

Dubai Investments Park

The larger district Green Community sits inside, holding the catchment's main IB continuum capacity alongside American and SABIS schools.

The Sustainable City

A planned low-energy community with its own IB school, whose own systems frequently supply interdisciplinary unit and Personal Project contexts for students there.

Jebel Ali

The industrial district to the west around the port and free zone, mostly UK and Indian curriculum schools, so MYP families there are a small minority.

Al Furjan

Metro-connected villas and townhouses north of here, with a school offering the Diploma alongside a UK route and reasonable in-home supply at IGCSE level.

Discovery Gardens

Dense apartments with very mixed home languages, where language acquisition phase placement is a recurring and often misread question.

Dubai South

Large and new around the Expo site and Al Maktoum airport, where families drive outward for IB provision rather than inward.

Emaar South

Golf-course villas deep inside Dubai South, with a 20 to 30 minute school run each way that compresses the usable evening considerably.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in Green Community

IB continuum provision serving Green Community

These are the schools running the MYP within reach of this community, two of them from the Primary Years Programme through to the Diploma. Cohorts are small, which concentrates a year group's experience of a subject group and leaves very few local tutors with MYP criteria experience.

  • Fairgreen International School, The Sustainable City
  • Sunmarke School, Al Furjan

The surrounding non-IB school set

Most children in and around Green Community attend schools on other curricula with entirely different assessment calendars, which is why an MYP family here often cannot compare notes usefully with a neighbour.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

    Say which MYP year, first

MYP 1 to 3 is fluency work, MYP 4 is profile evidence, MYP 5 is the Personal Project and the transition. The year determines what the available time can achieve and what we should decline to promise.

  2. 02

Send the criterion report and one piece of work

The report shows which of the four criteria is low; a piece of marked work shows why, read against the published descriptor for the band above. Together they usually locate the gap in one session.

  3. 03

Look across subjects before down one

Low knowledge marks in one subject is a content problem. The same criterion type low in four subjects is an approaches-to-learning problem, and one skills block beats four subject tutors for it.

  4. 04

    Free diagnostic trial lesson online

A real one-to-one lesson with the matched specialist, built on the work you sent, ending in a written note of what the descriptor and the work together showed. No card details and nothing to commit to.

  5. 05

Weekly slot, re-cut at the year's edges

What UAE parents tell us matters most

The year decides the work

Five MYP years with no external examinations look identical from outside and are not. Fluency work in MYP 2 and a Personal Project block in MYP 5 are different purchases, and buying the wrong one for the year is the usual waste.

MYP 4 treated as the evidence year

It is the last point at which a criterion profile can be read, acted on and still have two years to pay off. Discovered in the second Diploma year, the same skills pattern costs marks while it is being fixed.

The Personal Project planned from the journal

All three criteria draw their evidence from the process, so a journal kept roughly each week outperforms an elegant retrospective account. Narrowing the goal in the first week is the single highest-value session.

The decision point named before it closes

The post-MYP route is settled partway through MYP 5 on predicted grades, not at the end of it with results in hand. Any work meant to widen the options has to happen before that point.

Honest about the youngest students

For MYP 1 and 2, a child who needs an adult in the room to begin work is better served in person, and we say so rather than taking the booking. IB Gram runs no home visits in the UAE.

Figures and rules cited, never asserted

AED bands are attributed to their publishers with the month read, the permit position comes from u.ae and MoHRE, and we claim no regulator approval because we hold none.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Green Community: your questions answered

Which MYP year is the best time to start tutoring?+

MYP 1 to 3 for fluency and MYP 4 for evidence, and almost all families start later than either. The early years are the only part of the programme with no external deadline, which makes them cheap, and the things that go unbuilt there - arithmetic speed, reading stamina, writing produced to a clock - are assumed by everything that follows. MYP 4 is the last year a criterion profile can be read and acted on with two years left for it to pay off rather than two months.

When does my child's Personal Project actually need to be finished?+

The deadline is set by the school rather than by the IB, and it lands well before the end of MYP 5, because the school needs time before submission. Working backwards, the goal should be narrowed in the first weeks of the year and the journal begun in the same week, because all three criteria - planning, applying skills and reflecting - draw their evidence from the process. Ask the coordinator for the internal deadline in writing at the start of the year rather than looking for it in the spring.

Why does the Personal Project journal matter more than the product?+

Because the criteria assess the process and the journal is the only evidence of it. Planning, applying skills and reflecting all ask what the student decided, what obstacles appeared and what approach changed, and a journal written in the fortnight before the deadline cannot supply any of that: it reads smoothly and records nothing. A rough weekly entry naming what was tried and what failed outperforms an elegant retrospective account, and it takes a few minutes a week to keep.

When is the Diploma or A Level decision taken in MYP 5?+

Partway through the year, on predicted grades and the criterion profile, because schools build timetables and sixth forms issue offers before any MYP 5 work is complete. By the time the Personal Project is submitted the decision has usually been made. That means the evidence used is the MYP 4 profile plus early MYP 5 work, and any effort intended to widen the options - lifting a subject profile, demonstrating readiness for a Higher Level science - has to happen before that point.

Does my child's school enter students for MYP eAssessments?+

That is a school decision rather than a student one, and it changes the shape of MYP 5 considerably, so ask directly. Some schools enter MYP 5 students for optional on-screen examinations and ePortfolios leading to the IB MYP Certificate and some do not. Where a school does, the year acquires an external examination window and the preparation is largely timed on-screen writing, which is also the best possible preparation for whatever follows. Ask for which subjects and when the components fall.

How do I use a criterion report in MYP 2 differently from MYP 5?+

The diagnosis is the same and the prescription is not. In MYP 2 or 3 a skills pattern - low communication or inquiry marks across several subjects - can be addressed slowly inside ordinary subject work, and it compounds over the remaining years. In MYP 5, with the Personal Project live and the route decision approaching, the same pattern needs a short targeted block, because there is no longer room for slow compounding. Read the descriptor for the band above in either case; just match the response to the time left.

What is the transition gap between the MYP and the Diploma?+

Narrow and specific. The MYP builds inquiry, independent work, extended purposeful writing and comfort with criteria-based assessment, all of which pay in the Diploma's internally assessed components and the Extended Essay. What it does not require is writing against a clock, formal mathematical notation at speed, or recall at volume, and both the Diploma and an A Level route assume all three from the first term. A term of timed writing, daily manipulation by hand and retrieval practice closes most of it.

Is online tutoring suitable for an MYP 1 student in Dubai Investments Park?+

It depends on the child, and we would rather say so than take every booking. From about MYP 3 onward the format works without qualification, because the work is document work: a descriptor beside a piece of writing, a journal read together. For MYP 1 and 2, a child who will settle at a desk and engage with a screen does well, while one who needs an adult physically present to begin and stay started does better in person. IB Gram runs no home visits in the UAE.

Can a tutor help with the Personal Project without doing it?+

Yes, and the useful help is mostly questioning rather than teaching. A tutor can challenge whether the goal is achievable with the time and resources available, explain what each criterion rewards, teach a specific skill the project needs, show the student how to keep a journal that will actually evidence their process, and read the draft report against the descriptors. A tutor cannot plan it, make it, write it or edit it to completion. Every word of the report must be typed by the student.

Should we use the summer break for MYP work?+

It is the opportunity the MYP calendar offers and almost nobody takes. The long summer is the only stretch with no competing demands, which makes it the natural window for two things: fluency work between MYP 1 and 3, where arithmetic speed and reading stamina are cheap to build, and transition preparation between MYP 5 and the Diploma, where a few weeks of writing to a clock and manipulation by hand removes most of the first-term shock that is otherwise read as a capability problem.

How many MYP subjects should we tutor at once?+

One, in most cases, and sometimes none in the sense parents expect. If the criterion profile shows one subject genuinely low on knowledge criteria, that is one subject tutor. If the same criterion type is low across several subjects, the right purchase is a skills block rather than several subject tutors, and it improves all of them at once. Starting with three MYP subject tutors is the most common overspend we see from this catchment, and the criterion report usually shows why it was unnecessary.

What happens to MYP sessions during Ramadan?+

The hour moves and the shape changes. School hours shorten and households reorganise their evening around iftar, so a weekday 5pm slot typically becomes early afternoon or post-iftar for the month. For MYP students the thing to protect is the writing habit rather than the content pace: a shorter session that still produces one piece of written work holds more than a longer discussion that produces none. Because nobody is travelling to your address, moving the slot is a diary change rather than a negotiation.

Why are MYP-literate tutors hard to find near Green Community?+

Because IB continuum provision here is concentrated in a few schools. KHDA reported the International Baccalaureate at 7% of Dubai private enrolment across 227 private schools and 17 curricula, and this catchment is not where that minority concentrates, so the surrounding tutoring market grew up around UK and Indian curricula. The practical effect is that a local search returns tutors who know the subject and have never read an MYP descriptor, and the descriptor is where the actual diagnosis lives.

Does the MYP leave my child without any certificates at 16?+

Unless the school enters candidates for optional eAssessments, yes, and that is normal rather than a problem. An MYP 5 student arrives at the next stage with criterion grades and a Personal Project rather than subject certificates, which IB continuum schools read fluently. It matters more if a family is considering a move to a UK-curriculum sixth form accustomed to reading IGCSE results, so ask the receiving school what evidence it wants and when, well before the decision point partway through MYP 5.

Tell us the year, then send the report

If you are looking for an IB MYP tutor in Green Community, start with the year rather than the subject. MYP 1 to 3 is the cheap window for fluency that nothing examines; MYP 4 is the last year a criterion profile can be acted on with time to spare; MYP 5 carries the Personal Project and a decision that closes partway through it. Send the year, the subject group, the most recent criterion report and one piece of your child's marked work. A specialist reads both against the published descriptor and teaches a free one-to-one trial lesson online on Gulf Standard Time.
