IB Physics Tutor in Arabian Ranches 2

Most parents searching for an IB physics tutor in Arabian Ranches 2 are not really asking about distance. They are asking whether anyone within reach actually knows the current Physics guide: Themes A to E, the split between Paper 1A and Paper 1B, and how the scientific investigation is marked. This page answers that honestly. Lessons run one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time, so the subject specialist matters more than the postcode.

  • One-to-one lessons over live video, scheduled on Gulf Standard Time
  • Tutors matched by subject and level, not by driving distance

IB & IGCSE in Arabian Ranches 2

Is there actually anyone near Arabian Ranches 2 who knows DP Physics?

The honest answer is: probably not, and that is the wrong question anyway. Arabian Ranches 2 is a villa community of about a dozen sub-communities — Rosa, Palma, Casa, Camelia, Lila, Azalea, Samara, Yasmin — sitting off Sheikh Zayed bin Hamdan Al Nahyan Street in the Dubailand belt. It is residential by design. The chance that a Diploma Programme Physics specialist who has taught Theme D fields at Higher Level happens to live in Palma, be free at 6pm on a Tuesday, and still be free in March when the mocks land, is small. Parents who search for a tutor by proximity are searching a pool of a few dozen people. Parents who search by subject are searching a pool of several thousand.

That matters more in Physics than in almost any other Diploma subject. DP Physics is not one body of knowledge that a competent science graduate can cover. The current guide runs five themes, and the places students lose marks are narrow and technical: sign conventions in gravitational and electric potential, the difference between a tangential velocity and an angular velocity in circular motion, uncertainty propagation in a gradient, and the standing-wave boundary conditions that Paper 2 keeps asking about in slightly different words. A tutor who last taught the old core-and-options structure will teach your child a syllabus that no longer exists.

There is a second problem with the proximity search, and it is specific to this part of Dubai. Arabian Ranches 2 has no metro, and the approach roads — Sheikh Zayed bin Hamdan Al Nahyan Street onto Al Qudra Road and Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Road — carry the full Dubailand school run between 2:30pm and 4:30pm. A tutor driving in from Jumeirah or Al Barsha at 4pm is spending close to an hour each way. That travel time is paid for, either in the hourly rate or in the tutor's willingness to hold the slot for eighteen months. Families in Rosa and Palma who have tried in-home arrangements usually describe the same pattern: it works for a term, then the tutor takes a closer client.

So IB Gram does not run home visits in Dubai or anywhere else in the UAE — that service exists only in India. For Arabian Ranches 2 we deliver online IB Physics tuition: one-to-one, live video, a shared whiteboard, screen-shared past papers, and a recording of the session if the student wants to revisit a derivation. What a family gives up is the physical presence of an adult in the villa. What it gets is a tutor chosen because they have taught Theme E quantum physics at Higher Level forty times, rather than because they live in Mudon. On a subject this technical, that trade is not close.

The rest of this page is written to let you judge a Physics tutor rather than trust one. It sets out the five themes and what each one costs students in marks, the full component structure with durations and weightings, the eight questions that separate someone who knows the current guide from someone who knows physics, the boundary rules on the scientific investigation, and a plain table of who can actually teach DP Physics within reach of Arabian Ranches 2.

IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Physics does not begin in DP1. A student in Arabian Ranches 2 arrives at Diploma Physics from one of three places, and each arrival leaves a different gap. These are the programmes we support around the Physics pathway, with what each one means for a family here.

DPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13 · DP1 and DP2

Diploma Programme Physics

Two years, 150 taught hours at Standard Level and 240 at Higher Level, built around five themes rather than the old core-plus-options structure. Assessment is Paper 1 at 36%, Paper 2 at 44% and the scientific investigation at 20%. Higher Level adds content inside every theme — rigid body mechanics, special relativity, thermodynamics, induction and quantum physics — so an HL student is not doing SL plus extras at the end.

Dubai schools overwhelmingly run the May session, and DP Physics students in Arabian Ranches 2 typically start the scientific investigation late in DP1, which collides with the same term's Maths exploration and the Extended Essay first draft. Families here who plan Physics support around the April revision window usually find the investigation has already eaten the autumn. The useful planning unit is the whole of DP1, not the last term.

MYPAges 11-16 · MYP 1-5 · Years 7-11

Middle Years Programme Sciences

Integrated sciences assessed on four criteria rather than by paper, with physics content distributed across the five years instead of taught as a block. Students are strong on investigation design and inquiry language and comparatively light on algebraic fluency, because MYP Sciences rewards a well-argued method over a fast rearrangement. That is a real strength and a real gap, and both show up in DP1.

Several IB continuum schools within the Dubailand school-bus radius run MYP before the Diploma, so a family in Arabian Ranches 2 may have one child in MYP Sciences and another in DP Physics in the same house. The bridging work is almost entirely mathematical: rearranging multi-term equations, handling standard form, and reading a gradient as a physical quantity rather than a number.

IGCSEAges 14-16 · Years 10-11

IGCSE Physics as the DP entry route

Cambridge IGCSE Physics 0625 or Pearson Edexcel International GCSE Physics 4PH1, sat at 16 by most British-curriculum students in Dubai before the Diploma split. Extended-tier 0625 covers more than enough content for DP Standard Level, but it assesses recall and single-step calculation, where DP Physics assesses multi-step reasoning with unfamiliar context. The content overlap misleads parents into expecting a smooth entry.

British-curriculum schools dominate Dubai by enrolment, so most Arabian Ranches 2 students reaching DP Physics come through IGCSE Physics 0625 rather than MYP. The marks they lose in the first DP1 term are rarely content marks. They are marks for method: stating an assumption, carrying a unit through, and answering the command term that was actually used.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

Physics is the reason you are on this page, but almost no DP Physics student needs only Physics. These are the subjects we cover around it for Arabian Ranches 2 families, with what each one actually assesses.

Physics

HL and SL

Themes A to E under the current guide. Higher Level adds rigid body mechanics and relativity in Theme A, thermodynamics in Theme B, induction in Theme D and quantum physics in Theme E. Paper 2 extended response is where the grade is decided, because it asks for reasoning in an unfamiliar context rather than recall.

Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches

HL and SL

The usual companion to Physics HL. Differentiation and integration carry straight into kinematics and induction, and trigonometric identities into wave superposition. Students who take Physics HL with Maths AI SL can pass, but they work harder on every algebraic rearrangement in Paper 2.

Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation

HL and SL

Chosen by students who want a quantitative course without the proof-heavy content of Analysis and Approaches. The gap that shows in Physics is manipulation speed, not understanding, and it is closable with targeted algebra drill rather than more physics.

Chemistry

HL and SL

Taken alongside Physics by most students aiming at engineering or medicine. Shares the same investigation model and the same uncertainty conventions, so one tutor can carry both data-analysis skillsets. Organic mechanisms and energetics are the usual pressure points.

Biology

HL and SL

The third science in many Arabian Ranches 2 timetables. Content volume rather than reasoning difficulty is the issue, and students who manage Physics well often under-prepare Biology because it looks easier on the page. Command terms carry very different mark expectations here.

Computer Science

HL and SL

A frequent Group 4 alternative for students who want Physics plus a second technical subject. The internal assessment is a developed product with documentation, which is a different planning problem from a physics investigation, and the deadline usually falls in the same DP1 term.

Design Technology

HL and SL

Offered by a smaller number of Dubai schools and chosen by students who like the practical side of Physics. The design cycle and the physics investigation share evidence habits: record the decision when you make it, not three weeks later from memory.

Economics

HL and SL

A common Group 3 pairing for Physics students aiming at engineering with management. Diagram accuracy and precise definitions carry most of the marks, and students coming from a technical mindset often write too much and label too little.

English A: Language and Literature

HL and SL

The written tasks sit in the same DP1 term as the physics investigation, which is why Physics-focused students run out of calendar. Planning both around one timetable is part of what a Physics tutor here ends up doing.

Theory of Knowledge

Core

Physics is the easiest subject to write a good TOK essay from and the easiest to write a vague one from. We coach the argument structure and the use of physics as a real-world example; the essay itself stays entirely the student's own composition.

Extended Essay in Physics

Core · 4,000 words

A physics Extended Essay needs a research question narrow enough to answer with equipment a Dubai school actually owns. Supervision here means method review, feasibility checks and feedback on drafts the student has written, within IB academic-honesty rules.

Arabic as an additional language

MoE mandatory stream

Arabic, Islamic Education and Social Studies are mandatory in all Dubai private schools whatever the licensed curriculum, and KHDA requires separate classes for Arabs and non-Arabs. Physics students in Arabian Ranches 2 still carry this load, and it is often the subject nobody plans support for.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three ways families in Arabian Ranches 2 use DP Physics support. All of them are delivered one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time, and all of them are built around the student's own school timeline rather than a fixed syllabus order.

Weekly one-to-one across DP1 and DP2

A fixed slot held for the whole course, moving through the themes in the order the school teaches them rather than the order the guide prints them. This is the version that works for Physics, because the subject compounds: a student who never fixed vector resolution in Theme A will lose marks in Theme D two terms later without knowing why.

  • Same tutor, same slot, for the full two years
  • Session order follows the school's scheme of work
  • Past-paper questions introduced from the first month, not the last term
  • Written note after each session naming the next week's target

Component-focused blocks

Short runs of six to ten sessions aimed at one component. The commonest is Paper 1B data-based questions, where students lose marks on uncertainty propagation and gradient interpretation rather than on physics. Second commonest is Paper 2 extended response, which is a writing problem as much as a physics one.

  • Paper 1A technique: elimination, unit checking and timing
  • Paper 1B data-based questions and uncertainty propagation
  • Paper 2 extended response structure and command terms
  • Mock post-mortem: the specific marks lost, not the grade

Scientific investigation supervision

Structured review of the student's own investigation, from research question to final evaluation. The tutor interrogates the method, points at thin evidence, and asks the questions an examiner will ask. The student does every piece of the writing and the analysis, and the tutor's role is recorded honestly if the school asks.

  • Research question feasibility checked against available equipment
  • Method and variable control questioned before data collection starts
  • Uncertainty treatment reviewed against the criteria, not rewritten
  • Feedback on drafts the student has produced, in the student's own words

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Arabian Ranches 2

01

What "a physics tutor near me" is really asking, and the honest answer

  • Proximity narrows the pool to a few dozen adults; subject matching widens it to thousands
  • The guide changed: five themes, one investigation, a split Paper 1
  • Ask a candidate to name Themes A to E before you ask anything else
  • Online delivery removes travel cost from the hourly rate and the schedule

A parent typing "IB physics tutor in Arabian Ranches 2" into Google is asking three separate questions at once, and conflating them is why the search goes badly. The first is practical: who is close enough to turn up. The second is about competence: who knows the current Diploma Physics guide well enough to be useful at Higher Level. The third is about reliability: who will still be free in eighteen months when it matters. Proximity answers the first question and actively works against the other two.

Here is the arithmetic. Arabian Ranches 2 and the communities immediately around it hold a few thousand households. The subset containing an adult who has taught Diploma Physics at Higher Level is small; the subset of those who are available in the evening, hold a MoHRE private tuition work permit, and are not already committed to two other families is smaller again. Families who insist on a tutor inside the community are usually choosing between a general science graduate and a university student who sat Physics themselves three years ago. Both can help a struggling Standard Level student with Theme A. Neither will reliably move a Higher Level student from a 5 to a 6 on Theme D fields.

The competence question has a sharper edge in Physics than elsewhere because the course changed. The guide now in use restructured the subject into five themes, folded the old options away, replaced the two separate internal assessment pieces with a single scientific investigation, and split Paper 1 into a multiple-choice section and a data-based section. A tutor whose mental model is the old core, additional higher level and options structure will cover content your child does not need and skip skills they are assessed on. Ask any candidate to name the five themes. The answer takes four seconds and tells you everything.

So the honest answer to the proximity question is that IB Gram does not place a tutor at a UAE address, and for this subject that is the right design rather than a compromise. Lessons for Arabian Ranches 2 run one-to-one over live video, scheduled on Gulf Standard Time, with the whiteboard and the past paper shared on screen. The matching constraint becomes the one that affects the grade: has this tutor taught these five themes, at this level, recently.

02

The five themes your child is actually sitting

Diploma Physics is organised into five themes, each taught at Standard and Higher Level with additional content at Higher Level inside the theme rather than bolted on at the end. Standard Level runs to 150 taught hours and Higher Level to 240. That extra 90 hours is not revision time; it is content, and it is spread across all five themes, which is why an HL student who falls behind in the first term rarely catches up by working harder in the last.

The table below sets out what each theme contains and where students in this cluster most often stall. The stalling points are not guesses. They are the topics that come up in nearly every first consultation with an Arabian Ranches 2 family: circular motion, where students confuse tangential and angular quantities; potential, where the sign convention defeats otherwise strong students; and uncertainty, which is examined in Paper 1B and in the investigation and taught properly in very few classrooms anywhere.

Read the right-hand column as a diagnostic rather than a syllabus summary. If your child's reports say "inconsistent in Physics" and you want to know what that means, the answer is almost always one of these eight rows. A single session spent identifying which one is worth more than a term of general revision, and it is the first thing a competent tutor will do rather than starting at Theme A and working forward.

Confirm the current theme list and the Higher Level additions with your child's Diploma coordinator before building a plan around them. Guides are revised, schools teach themes in different orders, and the IB's own subject pages are the authority. We teach to the school's scheme of work, not to a generic sequence.

Paper 1A, Paper 1B and Paper 2: what each one is worth

The component structure is the single most useful thing a parent can understand, because it tells you where effort converts into marks. Paper 1 carries 36% of the grade and is itself split: Paper 1A is multiple choice, Paper 1B is a set of data-based and practical questions. Paper 2 carries 44% and is the extended-response paper. The scientific investigation carries the remaining 20% and is marked internally against IB criteria before external moderation.

That split changes revision priorities. A student who drills recall is optimising for Paper 1A, which is the smallest and least discriminating part of the grade. Paper 2 is where grades are decided, and Paper 2 rewards something recall does not touch: reading an unfamiliar context, selecting the physics that applies, and writing an argument that answers the command term. A student who can do every derivation in the book and still writes "the force increases" where the paper asked them to explain will lose those marks every time.

Paper 1B is the component almost nobody prepares for deliberately. It tests the handling of real data: reading a graph, finding a gradient, propagating an uncertainty, deciding how many significant figures the final answer deserves. These are learnable in about eight focused sessions, and they transfer directly into the scientific investigation, which is why we usually schedule Paper 1B work in DP1 rather than saving it for revision.

Durations below are from the current guide as taught in Dubai schools. Check them against your child's Diploma coordinator or the IB's own assessment pages before you plan a timed-practice schedule, because papers and timings are revised and the school holds the authoritative version.

Eight questions that separate a physics graduate from a DP Physics teacher

  • Name the five themes, A to E
  • What is Paper 1B, and how is it different from Paper 1A?
  • Propagate an uncertainty through a gradient taken from a graph
  • Why is the energy of a bound orbit negative?
  • What does "explain" require that "describe" does not?
  • What would you do with a weak investigation draft — in detail?

Parents interviewing tutors tend to ask about qualifications and years of experience, which are the two things hardest to verify and least predictive. These eight questions take ten minutes and are almost impossible to bluff. We would be happy for a family in Arabian Ranches 2 to ask them of us.

Name the five themes. Someone teaching the current guide answers immediately. Someone teaching from memory of the old structure will say "mechanics, thermal, waves, electricity and magnetism, atomic" — a perfectly reasonable description of physics and the wrong answer to the question. Next: what is Paper 1B and how does it differ from Paper 1A? A tutor who has not looked at a recent paper will not know Paper 1 is split at all.

Then the technical ones. How do you propagate an uncertainty through a gradient taken from a graph? What is the sign convention for gravitational potential and why does it make the energy of a bound orbit negative? Give me a standing-wave question where the boundary conditions change the answer. What does the command term "explain" require that "describe" does not? These four questions cover the topics where this cluster's students lose the most marks, and the answers are short enough to assess without being a physicist yourself.

The last two are about the investigation and about honesty. Ask: what exactly would you do if my child showed you a draft investigation with weak data? The right answer involves questions, criteria and redesign, and does not involve the tutor supplying text. Then ask: what happens if my child's school marks the investigation differently from your expectation? A tutor who says the school and the IB moderation process decide, and that their job is preparation rather than prediction, is being straight with you.

05

The scientific investigation: 20% of the grade and a hard boundary

The scientific investigation replaced the older internal assessment structure and carries 20% of the Physics grade at both levels. It is a single piece of independent work, developed over roughly ten hours of class time, in which the student designs a question, collects and analyses data, and evaluates what they found. It is marked by the school against IB criteria and then moderated externally. For most students it is the first substantial independent scientific work they have ever produced, and it arrives in the same term as three other internal deadlines.

The boundary rules matter and they are not subtle. A tutor may teach the underlying physics, explain what each assessment criterion is asking for, interrogate a method, point out that an uncertainty treatment is thin, and give feedback on a draft the student has written. A tutor may not supply text, supply data, rewrite a section, or hand over a worked analysis. The student's submitted work must be entirely their own composition, and the school will ask them to confirm that. IB academic-honesty rules make a breach an expulsion risk for the student, and the UAE market contains providers who sell finished internal assessments outright. We do not, and we say so on every page.

What useful supervision looks like in practice: the first session is spent killing research questions. Most proposed investigations fail on feasibility rather than ambition — the equipment does not exist in the school lab, the range of the independent variable is too narrow to produce a gradient, or the measurement uncertainty swamps the effect. Finding that out in week one rather than week six is worth more than any amount of help with the writing, and it is entirely legitimate.

The second thing supervision does is force the evaluation to be quantitative. Students write "human reaction time introduced error" and stop. The criteria want the size of that error, its direction, and its effect on the conclusion. Three questions from a tutor — how big, which way, does it change your answer — turn a weak evaluation into a strong one without a single word being written for them.

06

Who can actually teach DP Physics within reach of Arabian Ranches 2

This is the table nobody in this market publishes, because it is the one that exposes the limits of a local tutor search. It sets out where a physics tutor for Arabian Ranches 2 realistically comes from, what depth each source offers at Higher Level, what the journey costs, and what a parent should check before paying anything.

Rate bands are market figures, not IB Gram prices. The ranges come from published competitor pages and from Bestimate's Dubai tutoring rate table for 2026: budget online tuition from around AED 45 to 150 an hour, qualified online subject tutors from AED 150 to 300, in-home visits from AED 180 to 500 once travel is included, and specialist Diploma or A Level tutors from AED 200 to 450 and above. One provider in this market publishes AED 650 an hour for a named premium tutor. For IB Gram's own position, the free trial lesson and the consultation are the honest answer: one trial per student, with no payment details taken.

The permit column is not a formality. Private tutoring in the UAE is regulated: the MoHRE private tuition work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, is granted free of charge for two years, and covers categories including registered school teachers, government and private-sector employees, unemployed residents, university students and school students aged 15 to 18. Anyone tutoring without one is subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws, and no fine schedule has been published, so nobody should be quoting you an amount. A parent can ask to see the permit.

One row needs reading carefully. A teacher from your child's own school is the most tempting option and the most problematic. Abu Dhabi's ADEK professional-ethics rules bar private and charter school staff from paid private tutoring of students enrolled at their own school, and the MoHRE permit's code of conduct carries a similar bar on serving students affiliated with the tutor's own school. Verify the current position with the school before going near this arrangement.

From IGCSE Physics 0625 and MYP Sciences into DP Physics

Most DP Physics difficulty in Arabian Ranches 2 households is a transition problem wearing a content costume. A student who scored a 9 or an A* in IGCSE Physics 0625 arrives in DP1, meets Paper 2 style questions in October, and drops two grades. The parent concludes the child has hit a ceiling in physics. Almost always, the child has hit a ceiling in a specific skill the previous course never asked for.

IGCSE Physics, in both the Cambridge 0625 and Pearson Edexcel 4PH1 versions, rewards recognition and single-step calculation. The question tells you which physics to use. DP Physics Paper 2 does not: it gives an unfamiliar situation and expects the student to decide what applies, state assumptions, and write an argument. The content overlap is large, which is exactly why the transition is underestimated — the words are familiar and the task is not.

MYP Sciences students arrive with the opposite profile. They are comfortable designing an investigation, writing about method, and evaluating critically, which puts them well ahead on the 20% that is the scientific investigation. What they lack is algebraic speed. MYP Sciences assesses four criteria and does not drill rearrangement, so a student who understands the physics of induction perfectly can still lose Paper 2 marks to a multi-term rearrangement under time pressure.

The table maps each entry route to the gap it leaves and the realistic amount of work to close it. Weeks are estimates based on one weekly session, offered as planning arithmetic rather than a promise. No honest tutor promises a grade or a fixed timescale, and any provider who does should be questioned on how they could possibly know.

What a KHDA inspection report will and will not tell you about a physics department

Dubai private schools are overseen by the Knowledge and Human Development Authority, which is responsible for enhancing and overseeing the quality of private education in the emirate, and it publishes inspection outcomes on a six-band scale running from Outstanding down to Very Weak. Parents in Arabian Ranches 2 use those bands to choose schools, which is reasonable, and then use them to predict their child's physics result, which is not.

An inspection band is a judgement about a school. It aggregates across phases, subjects and groups of students. A school rated Outstanding can have a stretched sciences department in the Diploma years, a Physics class of four taught by a teacher whose main subject is Chemistry, or a timetable that puts Physics HL opposite the only Higher Level Maths slot. None of that shows up in the headline band, and all of it affects your child.

The Dubai market context is worth knowing while reading any report. The emirate had 387,441 students across 227 private schools in 2024-25, offering 17 different curricula, with UK curriculum at 37% of enrolment, Indian at 26%, American at 14% and the International Baccalaureate at 7%. Seven new private schools are opening for 2026-27, four UK curriculum and three IB, adding 16,846 places, and KHDA confirmed in May 2026 that there would be no increase in private school fees for the 2026-27 academic year under Dubai's second economic incentives package. A growing, fee-frozen market means staffing churn, and staffing churn is what parents actually feel in a Diploma physics classroom.

The practical move is to ask your child's school three questions the report does not answer: who teaches Physics HL this year, how many students are in the class, and when in DP1 the scientific investigation is scheduled. Those three answers tell you more about the risk than any band. They also tell a tutor exactly where to start, which is why we ask for them in the first consultation rather than asking for a target grade.

Where we tutor

Nearby areas we cover around Arabian Ranches 2

Arabian Ranches 2 sits in a belt of villa communities along Al Qudra Road and Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Road. Delivery is identical across all of them because it is online, but the school run, the bus routes and the realistic session start time differ, and those are the things that decide whether a schedule survives.

Arabian Ranches 2

Rosa, Palma, Casa, Camelia, Lila, Azalea, Samara and Yasmin. Ranches Primary School sits inside the community, so younger siblings are home early while DP students are still on a bus. Physics sessions here usually land at 6pm or 7:30pm.

Arabian Ranches

The original Emaar community, and the location of Jumeirah English Speaking School Arabian Ranches, which runs through to Year 13. DP Physics students living here have the shortest school run in the cluster and can take a 5pm slot.

Arabian Ranches 3

Joy, Spring, Sun, Bliss, Ruba and Caya. Newer, with no secondary school inside the community, so every DP student commutes out. Sessions before 6pm are unreliable during term.

Dubai Hills Estate

Closer to Al Khail Road and better served by schools, which shortens the run but puts students into after-school activity programmes that compete with evening tuition. Physics slots here work best at 7pm or later.

Motor City

Apartments and townhouses with a younger demographic, and a school inside the community. Students here often sit IGCSE Physics 0625 before transferring out for the Diploma, so the transition questions on this page apply directly.

Dubai Sports City

Dense, with several schools in walking distance, so the commute is short but households are smaller and quieter study space is scarcer. A headset and a closed door matter more than usual for online physics sessions.

DAMAC Hills

Villas off Umm Suqeim Road and Al Qudra Road with a school inside the community. The drive out towards Al Barsha at 3pm is the slowest in the cluster, which is exactly why online delivery holds its slot here.

Town Square and Mudon

Further down Al Qudra Road and the furthest from the Al Barsha and Umm Suqeim school corridor. Families here routinely report ninety-minute round trips on the school run, so an in-home physics tutor at 4pm is close to impossible.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in Arabian Ranches 2

Arabian Ranches, Arabian Ranches 2 and Mira

The schools closest to Arabian Ranches 2 by road, and the ones most often named by families here. Jumeirah English Speaking School Arabian Ranches is the nearest route to the Diploma from inside the community; Ranches Primary School sits within Arabian Ranches 2 itself and feeds secondary places elsewhere in the cluster.

  • Jumeirah English Speaking School (JESS) Arabian Ranches
  • Ranches Primary School
  • Dubai British School Mira
  • Nord Anglia International School Dubai
  • Kent College Dubai

Dubailand, Motor City and Dubai Sports City

The wider belt within the usual school-bus radius of Arabian Ranches 2. Several of these run IGCSE at 16 and then split into A Level or the Diploma, which is why the IGCSE-to-DP Physics transition is the most common conversation we have with families in this cluster.

  • GEMS FirstPoint School
  • GEMS Metropole School Motor City
  • Victory Heights Primary School
  • South View School
  • Jebel Ali School
  • Fairgreen International School
  • The Aquila School

Schools are named here as local context so families can place themselves on the map; IB Gram has no affiliation with, agreement with, or endorsement from any school listed.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Tell us the three things that matter

Level, the school's current theme, and the next deadline. For DP Physics that usually means Higher or Standard Level, which of Themes A to E is being taught now, and when the scientific investigation is due. A target grade is the least useful piece of information at this stage and the one most families lead with.

  2. 02

Free trial lesson, one per student

A single lesson at no charge, with no payment details taken. It is a working session, not a sales call: the tutor diagnoses where marks are going and says what the first six weeks should cover. If the match is wrong, say so and we change the tutor rather than persuading you.

  3. 03

Agree a slot that survives the school run

Arabian Ranches 2 students are rarely home and settled before 5pm during term, and later if they commute to Al Barsha or Umm Suqeim. We fix a repeating slot at 6pm or later where that is the realistic answer, on Gulf Standard Time, and hold it rather than reshuffling weekly.

  4. 04

Work in the order the school teaches

The tutor follows your child's scheme of work, not the guide's printed sequence. Past-paper questions enter from the first month so Paper 2 style is familiar long before mocks. Paper 1B data skills are scheduled in DP1 because they also carry the scientific investigation.

  5. 05

    Review against components, not feelings

After each mock we go through the paper and name the marks lost by component and by theme. That produces a short list of specific fixes instead of a general sense that physics is hard, and it is the review most families say they have never been given.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

Matched on the subject, not the postcode

A family in Rosa or Palma gets a tutor chosen because they have taught Themes A to E at Higher Level, rather than because they can reach Arabian Ranches 2 by 6pm. On a subject where the marks sit in narrow technical places, that is the decision that moves a grade.

No travel in the price or the schedule

An in-home tutor crossing Dubai at 4pm spends close to two hours on the round trip, and that time is paid for in the rate or in the tutor's willingness to keep the slot. Online delivery removes it from both, which is why evening slots hold through exam term here.

A stated boundary on assessed work

We teach, question and give feedback on work the student has produced. We do not supply finished internal assessments, and this market contains providers who do. A clear line protects the student from an academic-honesty finding that no grade is worth.

Figures that carry a source

Every AED band on this page is attributed to a published competitor page or to Bestimate's 2026 Dubai rate table, with the date stated. Three of the six most visible pages in this market publish no price at all, and the two that do quote US dollars.

Regulation described, not claimed

We explain what KHDA does in Dubai, what the MoHRE private tuition work permit is and that it is issued free of charge for two years, and how a parent can verify a tutor. IB Gram holds no regulator approval and claims none.

A named tutor you keep

The same person for the whole course where you want that, not a rota. Physics compounds across two years, and a tutor who remembers that your child never fixed vector resolution in October is worth more in March than a better-qualified stranger.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Arabian Ranches 2: your questions answered

Is there an IB Physics tutor who actually lives in Arabian Ranches 2?+

Possibly, but the pool is tiny. Arabian Ranches 2 is a residential villa community, and the number of adults inside it who have taught Diploma Physics at Higher Level recently is very small. Insisting on a tutor inside the community usually means choosing between a general science graduate and a recent school leaver. IB Gram does not place tutors at UAE addresses in any case: lessons for Arabian Ranches 2 run one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time, which means the tutor is selected for having taught Themes A to E rather than for living in Palma or Rosa.

How do I tell whether a tutor knows the current DP Physics guide or the old one?+

Ask them to name the five themes. A tutor working from the current guide answers in seconds: space, time and motion; the particulate nature of matter; wave behaviour; fields; nuclear and quantum physics. Someone teaching from the old core, additional higher level and options structure will describe physics topics instead. Then ask what Paper 1B is. If they do not know Paper 1 is split into a multiple-choice section and a data-based section, they have not looked at a recent paper, and they will prepare your child for the wrong things.

What is Paper 1B and why does nobody prepare for it?+

Paper 1B is the data-based and practical part of Paper 1, sat alongside the multiple-choice section of Paper 1A. It asks students to read graphs, find gradients, propagate uncertainties and decide on significant figures. It gets skipped because it looks like a small component and because the skills are not physics content, so neither revision guides nor classroom time cover them well. They are learnable in roughly eight focused sessions, and the same skills carry directly into the scientific investigation that is worth 20% of the grade.

How much of the DP Physics grade comes from the scientific investigation?+

Twenty per cent, at both Standard and Higher Level. It is one independent piece of work developed over around ten hours of class time, marked by the school against IB criteria and then moderated externally. Because it is internally assessed, families sometimes treat it as the easy fifth of the grade. In practice it is the component where the most marks are quietly lost, usually to a research question that was never feasible or an evaluation that lists limitations without quantifying them.

Can a tutor help with my child's physics investigation without breaking IB rules?+

Yes, within clear limits. A tutor may teach the underlying physics, explain what each criterion asks for, question a method before data collection starts, and give feedback on drafts the student has produced. A tutor may not supply text, supply data, or rewrite a section. The student's submission must be entirely their own composition and the school will ask them to confirm it. This market contains providers selling finished internal assessments; that is an academic-honesty breach and an expulsion risk for the student.

Why does my child lose marks in Theme D fields when they understand the physics?+

Almost always the sign convention. Gravitational potential is defined as negative, which makes the energy of a bound orbit negative, and students who have internalised potential as a positive quantity get the right magnitude and the wrong sign repeatedly. The second cause is confusing field strength with the gradient of potential: they are related, they are not the same, and Paper 2 questions are built to catch exactly that. Both are fixable in two or three sessions, which is why diagnosis beats general revision.

Will Physics HL work in Arabian Ranches 2 if my child is taking Maths AI rather than AA?+

No, but it helps. Analysis and Approaches at Higher Level supplies the calculus and trigonometric manipulation that Physics HL uses constantly, particularly in kinematics, induction and wave superposition. Students taking Physics HL with Applications and Interpretation at Standard Level pass regularly; they simply spend more effort on each rearrangement under time pressure. If that is your child's combination, the fix is targeted algebra practice rather than extra physics, and six to eight weeks of it usually closes the gap.

What time can a physics session realistically start for a student in Arabian Ranches 2?+

Six o'clock or later during term, for most families. Arabian Ranches 2 has no metro, and the school run along Sheikh Zayed bin Hamdan Al Nahyan Street onto Al Qudra Road and Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Road is slow between 2:30pm and 4:30pm. Students commuting to Al Barsha or Umm Suqeim are rarely home and settled before 5pm. Because lessons are online, the slot does not need a second travel window on top, so 6pm and 7:30pm starts hold reliably through exam term.

Which schools near Arabian Ranches 2 offer the IB Diploma?+

Jumeirah English Speaking School Arabian Ranches runs through to Year 13 and is the closest route to the Diploma from inside the community. Fairgreen International School in the wider Dubailand belt runs an IB continuum, and several schools within the school-bus radius teach IGCSE at 16 before splitting into A Level or the Diploma. Ranches Primary School sits inside Arabian Ranches 2 itself and feeds secondary places elsewhere. Check programme offerings directly with each school, since provision changes year to year.

Do private tutors in Dubai need a permit, and can I check one?+

Yes. The MoHRE private tuition work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, is granted free of charge for two years, and covers registered school teachers, government and private-sector employees, unemployed residents, university students and school students aged 15 to 18. Applications go through the MoHRE smart app, website and e-services system. Anyone tutoring without a permit is subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws. No fine schedule has been published, so treat any quoted amount with scepticism, and ask a tutor to show you the permit.

Can we use a teacher from my child's own school for physics?+

Be careful. In Abu Dhabi, ADEK's professional-ethics rules for private and charter school staff prohibit paid private tutoring of students enrolled at their own school, and the MoHRE permit's code of conduct carries a similar bar on serving students affiliated with the tutor's own school. Verify the current position with the school and the regulator before making the arrangement, because the exposure sits with the teacher and potentially with the student. It is also the arrangement least likely to give you an independent view of where marks are going.

What does IB Physics tutoring cost in Dubai at the moment?+

Market rates, not ours: budget online tuition runs from roughly AED 45 to 150 an hour, qualified online subject tutors from AED 150 to 300, in-home visits from AED 180 to 500 once travel is included, and Diploma or A Level specialists from AED 200 to 450 and above, with one provider publishing AED 650 for a named premium tutor. Figures come from published competitor pages and Bestimate's 2026 Dubai rate table. For IB Gram, start with the free trial lesson, one per student with no payment details taken.

My child got a 9 at IGCSE Physics and is now getting a 4 in DP1. What happened?+

A skill change, not a content ceiling. Cambridge IGCSE Physics 0625 and Pearson Edexcel 4PH1 tell the student which physics to apply and reward single-step calculation. Diploma Paper 2 gives an unfamiliar situation and expects the student to choose the physics, state assumptions and write an argument that answers the command term used. Because the content overlaps heavily, the change is invisible until the marks arrive. Eight to twelve weeks on question structure, alongside new content, is the usual shape of the fix.

Does an Outstanding KHDA rating mean the physics teaching is strong?+

Not reliably. KHDA is responsible for enhancing and overseeing the quality of private education in Dubai and inspects on a six-band scale from Outstanding to Very Weak, but a band is a judgement about a whole school aggregated across phases and subjects. A highly rated school can still have a small Higher Level Physics class taught by a teacher whose main subject is Chemistry. Ask the school who teaches Physics HL this year, how large the class is, and when the scientific investigation is scheduled.

Is online physics tuition really as good as having someone in the room?+

For this subject, usually better, and the reason is specific. Physics teaching is mostly diagram work, derivation and annotated past papers, all of which live on a shared screen more comfortably than on a kitchen table. A recording lets a student replay a derivation they lost halfway through. The real gain is the choice of tutor: a family in Arabian Ranches 2 gets a Higher Level Physics specialist rather than whoever can reach the Dubailand belt by six o'clock.

Start with a diagnosis, not a target grade

If your child is struggling with Diploma Physics, the useful first step is not booking more hours. It is finding out which of eight or nine specific things is costing the marks: vector resolution, internal resistance, standing-wave boundary conditions, potential sign conventions, binding energy arithmetic, uncertainty propagation, command-term discipline, or an investigation built on an unworkable research question. Tell us the level, the theme the school is teaching now, and the next deadline. The free trial lesson, one per student with no payment details taken, is where a tutor names the problem. Lessons run one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time, so the tutor is chosen for knowing this syllabus rather than for living near Arabian Ranches 2.
