IB Chemistry Tutor in Arabian Ranches 2

An IB chemistry tutor in Arabian Ranches 2 sits near the top of the Dubai rate card, and the reason is supply rather than marketing. Few people in this emirate have taught Diploma Chemistry under the current guide to exam, and the ones who have are mostly teaching it. This page prices that scarcity honestly, shows which hours convert into marks and which do not, and sets out the two blocks families here pay for twice. Lessons run one-to-one over live video.

IB & IGCSE in Arabian Ranches 2

Why chemistry costs more here than any other Diploma subject

Chemistry is the most expensive Diploma subject to tutor in Dubai, and the explanation is boring: there are fewer people who can do it. A graduate chemist is not automatically a Diploma Chemistry teacher. The current guide, with its Structure and Reactivity organisation and its single scientific investigation replacing the old internal assessment, is recent enough that a tutor whose experience predates it will teach a course that no longer exists in that shape. Families pay the scarcity premium either knowingly or by accident, and this page is written so it is knowingly.

The published Dubai bands set the frame. Qualified online subject tutors are advertised at AED 150 to 300 an hour, with Unitors listing IB from AED 200. IB, IGCSE and A Level specialists are quoted at AED 200 to 450 and above, with TutorChase publishing AED 270. Premium named or examiner-track tutors reach AED 500 to 650 and beyond, with BartyED at AED 650. In-home visits sit at AED 180 to 500 depending on travel, and Bestimate's 2026 Dubai table puts ordinary in-home sessions at AED 180 to 350. Chemistry sits in the specialist band rather than the qualified-tutor band for most families, and pretending otherwise would be a quotation rather than information.

What the premium should buy is specific. A Diploma Chemistry specialist can tell you, without looking anything up, that Paper 1 is worth 36% of the grade and splits into a multiple-choice Paper 1A and a data-based Paper 1B; that Paper 2 carries 44%; that the scientific investigation carries the remaining 20% across four criteria worth six marks each; and that organic mechanisms and energetics are where Higher Level students lose most. A tutor who cannot do that is charging a specialist rate for general chemistry teaching.

Arabian Ranches 2 adds a geographic version of the same problem. There is no secondary school inside the community, so every Diploma student is bussed out towards Motor City, Dubai Sports City, Nad Al Sheba, Al Barsha South or the Sustainable City. The pool of Diploma Chemistry specialists living within a sensible drive of Casa, Rosa, Palma, Lila, Camelia, Azalea, Reem, Yasmin and Rasha is very small. Searching by proximity in this subject does not filter for quality; it filters quality out.

IB Gram delivers Diploma Chemistry support to this community one-to-one over live video, on Gulf Standard Time. We do not send tutors to homes anywhere in the UAE; home visits are a service we offer only in India. The trade is straightforward: you give up a person at the table, and the specialist filter stops competing with a map. Every AED figure on this page belongs to the publisher named next to it and describes the market, never our own price list.

  • The scientific investigation is 20%, around ten hours of work and a maximum of 3,000 words
  • Its four criteria - research design, data analysis, conclusion and evaluation - are six marks each
  • The chemistry data booklet is provided in the examination; memorising constants is wasted effort

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Three stages shape a chemistry spend in this community: what arrived from IGCSE or MYP, which level the Diploma student is sitting, and what the grade is being bought for after school.

DPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

Diploma Programme Chemistry

Organised into Structure and Reactivity rather than the older topic list. Structure covers models of the particulate nature of matter, models of bonding and structure, and the classification of matter. Reactivity covers what drives chemical reactions, how much, how fast and how far, and the mechanisms of chemical change. Higher Level extends each of these rather than adding separate topics.

In Dubai the subject is usually taken at Higher Level by students aiming at medicine, dentistry, pharmacy, chemical engineering or materials science, and at Standard Level as a second science. The Higher Level cohort in this catchment is small enough that schools often run a single class, which is part of why private support is in demand.

SLHLAges 16-19

Standard and Higher Level, as a buying decision

The assessment architecture is the same at both levels and the papers are longer at Higher Level: Paper 1 runs 1h30 at SL and 2h at HL; Paper 2 runs 1h30 at SL and 2h30 at HL. The weightings do not change - 36%, 44% and 20%. What changes is depth, and the depth lands heaviest in energetics, equilibrium and organic mechanisms.

Moving between levels is a registration decision handled by the school's Diploma coordinator and tied to a deadline. Any family in Arabian Ranches 2 with genuine doubts about an HL Chemistry placement should get that deadline in writing during DP1 rather than discovering in the final term that only the exam remains.

PRE16Ages 14-16

What arrives from IGCSE and MYP

Most students in this catchment arrive from Cambridge 0620 Extended, Pearson 4CH1 or MYP Sciences. None of those requires the quantitative fluency Diploma Chemistry assumes from term one, and the mole calculations that felt sufficient at IGCSE are the ones that fail in DP1 under time pressure.

The gap is narrow and specific: moles in multi-step calculations, limiting reagents, writing and balancing equations fast enough to be invisible, and reading a question for what it actually asks. Ten to fifteen hours in the summer between Year 11 and DP1 is the cheapest chemistry intervention available here and almost nobody buys it.

NEXTAges 18+

What the grade is being bought for

Medicine, dentistry, pharmacy and chemical engineering are the usual destinations, and many of those programmes publish a requirement for Chemistry at Higher Level. Requirements are set per university and per programme and change between admission cycles, so the published requirement for the named course is the only reliable reference.

For students applying inside the UAE, check whether Ministry of Education equivalency is required for the route and verify the current rules with the Ministry directly. No tutor performs or guarantees that process, and published summaries of it go out of date. Ask the admissions office in writing which level of chemistry they expect.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

A chemistry budget is spent on parts of the course, and those parts differ enormously in how many marks an hour returns. The list below is what sessions are actually built from.

Reactivity 3: mechanisms of chemical change

SL and HL

Nucleophilic substitution, electrophilic addition and radical substitution, with the Higher Level extension into electron-pair sharing reactions. The single largest source of lost marks in the subject, because mechanisms must be drawn precisely and a half-remembered arrow earns nothing. Responds well to repetition and badly to reading.

Reactivity 1: what drives chemical reactions

SL and HL

Energetics, enthalpy cycles, bond enthalpies and, at Higher Level, entropy and Gibbs energy. Students can usually recite the definitions and still lose marks on sign conventions and on reading an energy cycle in the direction the question requires. Six to ten hours shifts this reliably.

Reactivity 2: how much, how fast and how far

SL and HL

Stoichiometric calculation, rates, equilibrium and acid-base chemistry, with the Higher Level work on equilibrium constants and buffers. Quantitative and therefore diagnosable from a marked script, which makes it one of the better-value blocks to buy early rather than late.

Structure 1: the particulate nature of matter

SL and HL

Models of the atom, electron configuration, ionisation and the quantitative treatment of amount of substance. The foundation the rest of the course assumes, and the place where an IGCSE-to-DP gap shows up first as slowness rather than as error.

Structure 2: models of bonding and structure

SL and HL

Ionic, covalent and metallic models, intermolecular forces, and the Higher Level work on formal charge and molecular orbital ideas. Explanation questions here reward precise language, and students lose marks for describing when the command term asked them to explain.

Structure 3: classification of matter

SL and HL

Periodicity, the periodic table as a predictive tool, organic nomenclature and functional groups, and spectroscopic identification at Higher Level. Nomenclature is cheap to fix and frequently left broken, which costs marks across every organic question in both papers.

Paper 1B data-based questions

SL and HL

The part of Paper 1 that is not multiple choice: interpreting data, spotting trends, handling uncertainty and explaining an anomaly. Almost nobody practises it separately, which makes it a reliable source of recoverable marks for a student already competent on content.

The scientific investigation

SL and HL

Twenty per cent of the grade, around ten hours of work, 3,000 words maximum, assessed on research design, data analysis, conclusion and evaluation at six marks each. A tutor may teach the chemistry and respond to the student's own draft. No tutor may write the investigation or supply text for it.

Command terms and extended response

SL and HL

State, describe, explain, deduce, suggest and justify demand different amounts of writing, and the mark allocation tells a trained student which. This is the cheapest block on the list and the one that most often lifts a grade that content work alone had stalled.

Timed paper practice

DP2

Whole Paper 1 and Paper 2 sittings under time, marked immediately, with error categories counted. The work that should dominate the final eight weeks of spending, and the only measure that honestly shows whether paid hours are still producing anything.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three shapes for buying chemistry help, with very different costs and very different returns depending on where in the two years you are.

Weekly content session, ninety minutes

The main shape for DP1 and the first half of DP2. Long enough to work through a mechanism properly, draw it repeatedly and then test it, which a sixty-minute slot rarely allows. Placed after the Dubailand school run has finished, usually from 17:30 onwards.

  • Best for mechanisms, energetics and anything that needs repetition within the hour
  • Published mid and specialist bands put this at AED 150 to 450 an hour
  • Monthly estimates for weekly mid-tier support run AED 600 to 1,200

A short investigation block

Three or four sessions spread across the period when the scientific investigation is being designed and analysed. Bought as a block rather than weekly, because the work comes in bursts and most of it is the student's own. The tutor teaches the chemistry and responds to drafts.

  • Four sessions at the specialist band is roughly AED 800 to 1,800 in total
  • Covers research design, data analysis, uncertainty and evaluation
  • No part of the submitted investigation is written or supplied by us

Timed paper run-in

Two sessions a week in the final six to eight weeks, built entirely on whole Paper 1 and Paper 2 sittings with immediate marking. The most expensive month of the two years and the one where a generalist does least good, because the work is paper technique rather than teaching.

  • Published specialist exam-year monthly estimates: AED 1,000 to 2,000 or more
  • Only worth buying if content work is already happening independently
  • Papers come from the school or the official board site; we reproduce none

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Arabian Ranches 2

01

What the chemistry premium actually pays for

Start with what is scarce rather than with a price. The scarce thing in Dubai is somebody who has taught Diploma Chemistry under the current guide, through a full two-year cycle, including the scientific investigation. Chemistry graduates are not scarce. Teachers who can explain electrophilic addition are not scarce. The combination of subject depth, current-guide familiarity and marked-script experience is, and in a market with a small Higher Level cohort per school it stays scarce.

That is what sits inside the specialist band. Published Dubai figures put IB, IGCSE and A Level specialists at AED 200 to 450 an hour and above, with TutorChase at AED 270; qualified online subject tutors sit lower at AED 150 to 300, with Unitors listing IB from AED 200; premium named or examiner-track tutors reach AED 500 to 650 and beyond, with BartyED at AED 650. For Standard Level chemistry the qualified band is often enough. For Higher Level mechanisms and the investigation, it usually is not.

The in-home band is a separate question and should not be confused with quality. Bestimate's 2026 Dubai rate table puts ordinary in-home sessions at AED 180 to 350, with independent home tutors quoting AED 200 to 500, and the increment over the online band is travel. For a family in Camelia or Azalea the drive from the city is long, so the premium is at its highest here while the teaching is identical. IB Gram does not sell home visits in the UAE at all, so no travel appears in any figure we quote.

Below all of this sits the budget band at roughly AED 45 to 150, with EdFlik advertising from AED 45 to 65 and Tutopiya from AED 33 to 52. It has a legitimate use in chemistry: supervised study, keeping a student company while they work through questions they can already attempt. It has no useful role in organic mechanisms or in the investigation, and buying it for those is the most common way a chemistry budget produces nothing.

The course your child is sitting, in the shape the guide uses

Diploma Chemistry is now organised into two halves rather than a list of topics, and a tutor who talks about topic numbers from an older guide is a warning sign worth acting on. Structure covers three areas: models of the particulate nature of matter, models of bonding and structure, and the classification of matter. Reactivity covers what drives chemical reactions, how much and how fast and how far, and the mechanisms of chemical change. Higher Level deepens each of these rather than bolting separate units onto the end.

That reorganisation has a practical consequence for tutoring. Questions now cut across the old boundaries deliberately, so a student who learned chemistry as separate chapters answers badly even when they know the content. A question about an organic reaction can demand nomenclature from Structure 3, a mechanism from Reactivity 3 and an energetic justification from Reactivity 1 in consecutive parts. Teaching has to follow the same connections, which is a skill, not a syllabus.

The tutoring implication for a family in Arabian Ranches 2 is about sequencing rather than volume. Working through the course in the order the school teaches it is sensible in DP1. In DP2 it stops being sensible, because the exam does not respect that order. Sessions should begin to run across areas, and the marked script is what tells you which combinations your child cannot handle.

One practical point that saves wasted hours. The chemistry data booklet is provided in the examination, so time spent memorising constants, ionisation data and bond enthalpies is time taken away from using them. A disconcerting number of students arrive at a first session with flashcards for information that will be printed in front of them, and redirecting that effort is often the quickest improvement available in the first fortnight.

Paper 1A, Paper 1B and Paper 2: where the eighty per cent sits

Eighty per cent of a Diploma Chemistry grade is examined on two papers, and they reward different things. Paper 1 carries 36% and has two parts: Paper 1A, which is multiple choice, and Paper 1B, which is data-based. Paper 2 carries 44% and consists of short and extended response questions. At Standard Level Paper 1 runs an hour and a half and Paper 2 an hour and a half; at Higher Level Paper 1 runs two hours and Paper 2 two and a half.

Paper 1B is the component most often left unpractised, and it is the cheapest source of recoverable marks in the subject. It asks students to read data, identify a trend, handle uncertainty and account for an anomaly. None of that is content revision, and a student who is strong on content frequently loses marks here simply because they have never sat a set of these questions under time. Two or three sessions of deliberate Paper 1B work is some of the best value available at specialist rates.

Paper 2 is where command terms decide outcomes. A four-mark explain question wants four distinct creditable points, and a student who writes a paragraph of correct chemistry without separating them loses marks they have genuinely earned in their head. This is trainable, fast, and unglamorous: write the mark allocation next to each answer, count the points, repeat. It is also the work that most often lifts a grade that content teaching alone had stalled.

Multiple choice in Paper 1A has its own discipline. The commonest loss is not ignorance but rushing: reading three of four options, or missing a negative in the stem. Timed sets with the errors categorised afterwards sort this out in a handful of sessions, and it is work a student can do independently once a tutor has shown them how to mark and classify their own attempts.

Organic chemistry: the block most families pay for twice

  • Mechanisms are a drawing skill and decay without weekly repetition
  • Ten minutes a week from memory beats six more paid sessions in DP2
  • Nomenclature, enthalpy conventions and equilibrium expressions decay the same way
  • Ask any tutor how they plan to stop a topic being bought twice

Organic chemistry is bought twice by a predictable number of families in this community, and the pattern is worth naming because avoiding it saves a four-figure sum. The first purchase happens in DP1, when mechanisms are first taught and a student finds them impossible. Six sessions produce apparent understanding, the topic test improves, and the tutoring stops. The second purchase happens in DP2, when the same student cannot reproduce any of it under exam conditions.

The reason is that mechanisms are a motor skill as much as a knowledge item. Nucleophilic substitution, electrophilic addition and radical substitution each have to be drawn correctly, with arrows starting and ending in the right places, quickly, without reference. Understanding them is a one-session job. Being able to produce them cold, nine months later, is a repetition job, and repetition does not happen in a session that ends with a satisfied student.

The cheap fix is structural rather than financial. After the DP1 block, the student should draw the mechanisms they have learned once a week for ten minutes, from memory, and check them. A tutor can set that up in one session and audit it monthly. Families who do this do not buy organic chemistry a second time; families who do not, reliably do, and the second purchase lands in the most expensive month of the two years.

The same principle applies to a shorter list of other items: enthalpy cycle conventions, equilibrium expressions, and the rules of organic nomenclature. These are all things a student can hold for a fortnight and lose by the spring. Identifying them early, and converting them into short recurring self-tests rather than repeat teaching, is how a chemistry budget stays inside what a family actually planned to spend.

05

The scientific investigation: 20%, four criteria and a hard boundary

  • Four criteria at six marks each: research design, data analysis, conclusion, evaluation
  • Around ten hours of work and a 3,000-word maximum
  • Design errors cap every later criterion - buy help early, not at the write-up
  • Feedback on the student's own draft is permitted; supplied text is not

The scientific investigation carries twenty per cent of the Diploma Chemistry grade, takes around ten hours of student work and is limited to 3,000 words. It is assessed on four criteria, each worth six marks: research design, data analysis, conclusion and evaluation. That structure is worth knowing as a parent, because it tells you what the work should look like at each stage and when outside help is genuinely useful.

Research design is where most of the damage is done, and it is done early. A question that cannot generate enough data, a variable that cannot be controlled in a school laboratory, or a method that produces a single measurement rather than a range will cap the other three criteria no matter how well the write-up is done. One session at the design stage is worth three at the write-up stage, and it is the point at which a specialist earns the specialist rate.

Evaluation is where marks are most commonly left on the table. It asks for a genuine assessment of the method's weaknesses and realistic improvements, and students write apologies instead: more repeats, better equipment, more time. A chemistry specialist can push a student towards the specific limitations of their own measurements, which is what the criterion rewards. This is feedback on the student's own work rather than contribution to it.

The boundary is absolute and worth stating in plain words before any booking. A tutor may teach the chemistry involved, explain a technique, question whether a conclusion is supported by the data, and give feedback on a draft the student has written. No tutor may write the investigation, draft any section of it, or provide text that ends up in the submission. This is the IB's academic-honesty requirement, the consequence of breaching it falls on the student, and we would rather decline the work than blur it.

06

A two-year chemistry spend plan for this community

Laid out across two years, chemistry spending has a natural shape that is cheaper than the shape most families end up with. Cheapest first: a summer block between Year 11 and DP1, closing the quantitative gap from IGCSE chemistry. Then light weekly support through DP1 while mechanisms and energetics are taught. Then a short investigation block at the design stage. Then timed paper work in the final stretch, which is expensive but short.

The version families actually buy is the inverse: nothing until the first DP2 report, then specialist-band intensity for three months. It costs more and produces less, because the final months are the worst time to teach content and the best time to practise papers. A plan that front-loads the cheap work and reserves the expensive band for paper technique is the single biggest saving available in this subject.

Some context for the household budget while planning. KHDA confirmed on 22 May 2026 that private school fees in Dubai would not rise for the 2026-27 academic year, under the emirate's second economic incentives package valued at AED 1.5 billion within a AED 2.5 billion total. Dubai's private sector is also expanding: the 2026-27 intake adds seven new private schools, four UK curriculum and three International Baccalaureate, creating 16,846 new places, after six opened during 2025-26 and enrolment rose 6%.

The figures in the table below are built from published market bands and are a planning tool, not a quotation. They assume one subject at Higher Level and a student who is doing the independent work between sessions. A family running chemistry and physics together should double the weekly rows and then ask seriously whether both are genuinely weak, because the commonest cause of two weak sciences is a single shared quantitative problem.

Practical chemistry when the lesson is on a screen

The fair question about online chemistry support is what happens to practical work. The honest answer has two halves. The laboratory work itself belongs to the school: your child does their practical programme and their investigation in their own school laboratory, with their own teacher supervising, and no tutoring arrangement changes that or should try to.

What a tutor can do is everything around it. Designing a method that will actually generate usable data. Deciding what to measure and how many times. Working out which uncertainties matter and which are noise. Reading a results table and identifying the anomaly worth discussing. Those are the skills Paper 1B and the investigation criteria reward, and they are discussion and analysis tasks that work as well on a shared screen as across a table - sometimes better, because the data is on the screen for both people.

Where online support needs deliberate effort is the mechanical side: apparatus handling, titration technique, recognising a colour change at the right moment. A tutor cannot teach the hands. What they can do is make sure the student knows what they are looking for before they walk into the laboratory, and debrief properly afterwards from the results. Ask any chemistry tutor how they handle that, because the answer distinguishes someone who has taught the subject from someone who has studied it.

The shared-screen advantage is real for the parts of chemistry that are drawing. A mechanism drawn by a student on a shared whiteboard, corrected arrow by arrow, is a better teaching episode than the same correction made on paper across a table, because the correction is visible, recordable and reviewable later. For the subject's single largest source of lost marks, the format is an advantage rather than a compromise.

08

Coverage, permits and the limits we will tell you about

  • Level and subject matched before the time slot, never the reverse
  • MoHRE permit: free, valid two years, two working days to issue
  • A teacher tutoring their own enrolled student is never arranged
  • No past papers, mark schemes or syllabus documents are reproduced by us

Higher Level Chemistry in the Gulf evening peak is one of the hardest intersections in this market to staff, and the honest response is to say so rather than to fill the slot. If no HL Chemistry specialist is free at your preferred time, we will tell you, set out the alternatives with the rate attached, and let you decide: a different weekday slot with the right person, a weekend slot, or a specialist whose hours sit outside the Gulf peak. What we will not do is put a general science tutor in front of an HL student because the hour was available.

On the legal framework, private tutoring in the UAE is permitted work and the permit is free. The MoHRE private tuition work permit was introduced under Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023 and is granted free of charge for two years. Eligible categories include teachers registered in government or private schools, employees in the government and private sectors, unemployed individuals, university students and school students aged fifteen to eighteen. MoHRE's service page, Issuance of a New Work Permit - Private Tutor Licensing, lists no fee and a two-working-day completion time through its smart app, website and e-services system.

Those offering private tutoring without a permit are subject to fines and penalties outlined in the applicable laws. No official fine schedule is published, so no amount appears here, and figures circulating online should be treated with caution. One arrangement is ruled out regardless of availability: ADEK's professional-ethics rules bar private and charter school staff from paid private tutoring of students enrolled at their own school, and the MoHRE permit's code of conduct also bars serving students affiliated with the tutor's own school.

Two further limits, stated so they are not discovered later. IB Gram does not hold a KHDA Educational Services Permit, which is the licence a tutoring operation with premises in Dubai requires, because we operate no premises in the UAE. And we do not reproduce or supply IB syllabus documents, past papers, mark schemes or grade-boundary tables; we reference the official sources and link to them, and the papers your child practises on come from the school or the board's own site.

Where we tutor

Nearby areas we cover around Arabian Ranches 2

What varies across the Dubailand belt is the travel premium a visiting tutor prices in and how thin the local specialist pool is. For chemistry, the second matters more than the first.

Arabian Ranches 2

No secondary school inside the gates, so every Diploma Chemistry student is travelling. The number of HL Chemistry specialists living within a short drive of this community is very small, which is why distance is the wrong filter here and subject depth is the right one.

Arabian Ranches and Arabian Ranches 3

The same catchment and the same thin local supply. A quote to a Ranches 3 family looks identical to one for Ranches 2, because what is being priced is the specialist's scarcity and the distance from the city, not the community name.

Dubai Hills Estate

Closer to the city and better supplied with secondary schools, which shortens the evening and slightly widens the pool of tutors willing to travel. Useful as a comparison point: same subject, same published rates, more usable hours in the day.

Motor City and Dubai Sports City

Where a large part of this catchment attends school. A Diploma student whose school sits here occasionally has a workable session before the drive home, which is the one scenario in which an early slot is useful for dense content like mechanisms.

DAMAC Hills and Mudon

Similar travel profile to Arabian Ranches 2, with Jebel Ali School inside DAMAC Hills shortening some runs. Chemistry demand here concentrates on Higher Level students aiming at medicine, which is the hardest brief in the subject to staff.

Town Square and Remraam

The longest journeys in this group along the Al Qudra Road corridor. Families here most often split chemistry into a weekday content session and a weekend session for timed papers, which is also the arrangement that costs least per mark gained.

Nad Al Sheba and Al Barsha South

The long school run, taken for a specific IB continuum or sixth form. A DP2 chemistry student making this journey twice daily has the least weekday capacity in this catchment, so the weekend becomes the main teaching window rather than overflow.

The Sustainable City

Reached from Arabian Ranches 2 along Al Qudra Road and home to an IB continuum school. Relevant to chemistry planning because a school running the full continuum may have a small single HL class, which is often what prompts the search for outside support.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Tell us the level and the current area

Higher or Standard, and which part of the guide the class is on now: Structure 2, Reactivity 1, Reactivity 3. That tells a specialist immediately whether the job is content, mechanism repetition or paper technique, and it is more useful than a general description of how chemistry is going.

  2. 02

Send the last marked chemistry paper

A marked Paper 1 or Paper 2 attempt lets a tutor count where the losses actually are: multiple-choice rushing, data interpretation in Paper 1B, command-term failures in Paper 2, or genuine content gaps. The proportions decide the first four sessions better than any conversation can.

  3. 03

    Say where the investigation stands

Not started, question chosen, data collected or drafting. Help at the design stage is worth several times help at the write-up stage, because a weak research design caps all four criteria. If the data is already collected, we will tell you honestly what can still be improved.

  4. 04

Take the free trial and agree the band

One free trial lesson per student, before any payment and with no card details taken. Afterwards we agree whether this is qualified-band or specialist-band work, how many hours a week, and a monthly figure, so the term can be budgeted rather than accumulated.

  5. 05

Set up the ten-minute weekly audit

Mechanisms decay. Before the paid block ends we set up a short weekly self-test the student runs unpaid, and we audit it monthly. This is the step that stops organic chemistry being bought a second time in the most expensive month of DP2.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

Priced against what is actually scarce

The scarce thing is a tutor who has taught this guide, with its Structure and Reactivity organisation and its single scientific investigation, through a full cycle. We say which band your child's work needs and why, rather than quoting the specialist rate for everything.

Current guide, not the previous one

A tutor describing the course by old topic numbers is preparing your child for a syllabus that no longer exists in that shape. Our chemistry matching checks for current-guide teaching experience, including the four investigation criteria at six marks each.

Cheap marks identified first

Paper 1B data questions and command-term discipline in Paper 2 return more marks per hour than more content teaching, and almost nobody practises them separately. The first block goes where the recoverable marks are, which is how a budget produces a grade.

No travel in the hourly figure

Published in-home rates in Dubai run AED 180 to 500 because a car is involved, and from the back clusters of Arabian Ranches 2 the drive is at its longest. Online delivery at the qualified or specialist band removes that line entirely while the teaching stays the same.

A stated line on the investigation

A tutor teaches the chemistry, questions whether the data supports the conclusion and comments on the student's own draft. No part of a submitted investigation is written or supplied by us. The consequence of breaching that falls on the student, which is why we state it before a booking rather than after.

Limits disclosed before you commit

Higher Level Chemistry in the Gulf evening peak is genuinely hard to staff. When it is unavailable we say so and give alternatives with rates attached, instead of filling the slot with a general science tutor and letting you find out in week three.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Arabian Ranches 2: your questions answered

Why does an IB Chemistry tutor in Arabian Ranches 2 cost more than a maths tutor?+

Supply. The pool of people who have taught Diploma Chemistry under the current guide through a full two-year cycle, including the scientific investigation, is small in Dubai, and Higher Level cohorts in individual schools are often a single class. Published bands put IB specialists at AED 200 to 450 an hour and above, with TutorChase at AED 270, against AED 150 to 300 for a qualified online subject tutor. For Standard Level content the lower band is often enough; for Higher Level organic work it usually is not.

How are the marks split across the Diploma Chemistry components?+

Paper 1 carries 36% of the grade and contains two parts: Paper 1A, multiple choice, and Paper 1B, data-based questions. Paper 2 carries 44% and consists of short and extended response questions. The scientific investigation carries the remaining 20%. At Standard Level both papers run an hour and a half; at Higher Level Paper 1 runs two hours and Paper 2 two and a half. The weightings are identical at both levels - only the paper lengths and the depth change.

What is Paper 1B and why is it worth paying attention to?+

Paper 1B is the data-based half of Paper 1. It asks a student to read data, identify a trend, handle uncertainty and account for an anomaly, and it is almost never practised separately. That makes it the cheapest recoverable marks in the subject: a student who is strong on content frequently loses marks here purely from unfamiliarity with the question style under time. Two or three sessions of deliberate Paper 1B work often returns more than the same hours spent on further content.

Why does my child understand organic mechanisms and then forget them completely?+

Because drawing a mechanism is closer to a motor skill than a fact. Nucleophilic substitution, electrophilic addition and radical substitution each need arrows that start and end in precise places, produced quickly and without reference. Understanding takes one session; retention takes weekly repetition. This is why families buy organic chemistry twice - once in DP1 when it is taught, once in DP2 when it cannot be reproduced. Ten minutes a week drawing from memory prevents the second purchase.

How much of the chemistry grade is the scientific investigation worth?+

Twenty per cent, at both Standard and Higher Level. It involves around ten hours of student work, is limited to 3,000 words, and is assessed on four criteria worth six marks each: research design, data analysis, conclusion and evaluation. Research design is the highest-leverage stage because a question that cannot generate enough data, or a variable that cannot be controlled in a school laboratory, caps the three later criteria no matter how carefully the write-up is done.

What is a chemistry tutor allowed to do on the scientific investigation?+

Teach the chemistry involved, explain a technique, question whether the conclusion is actually supported by the data, point out that an evaluation is generic, and give feedback on a draft the student has written themselves. What no tutor may do is write the investigation, draft any section of it, or supply text that ends up in the submission. The rule is the IB's academic-honesty requirement rather than a company policy, and the penalty for breaching it lands on the student.

Where do students lose the most marks in Diploma Chemistry evaluation sections?+

In writing apologies instead of evaluations. The criterion asks for a genuine assessment of the method's specific weaknesses and realistic improvements, and students commonly offer more repeats, better equipment and more time. None of that engages with their own measurements. A specialist can push a student towards the particular limitations of the data they actually collected, which is what earns the marks, and that work is feedback on the student's own investigation rather than a contribution to it.

Should we buy chemistry help in the summer before DP1?+

It is the cheapest effective purchase in the two years, and almost nobody makes it. Students arriving from Cambridge 0620 Extended, Pearson 4CH1 or MYP Sciences are rarely quantitatively fluent enough for Diploma pace: moles in multi-step calculations, limiting reagents and balancing equations fast enough to be invisible. Ten to fifteen hours in that summer closes a gap that otherwise shows up as apparent weakness across the whole of DP1 term one and costs far more to fix then.

Is Higher Level Chemistry necessary for medicine?+

Many medical, dental and pharmacy programmes publish a requirement for Chemistry at Higher Level, but requirements are set per university and per programme and change between admission cycles. The only reliable reference is the published requirement for the specific course your child is applying to, confirmed in writing by the admissions office. Do not rely on a general rule, including this answer, and do not let any tutor imply that their support is needed for an admissions outcome.

Can my child do practical chemistry properly if the tutoring is online?+

The laboratory work stays with the school: the practical programme and the investigation are done in the school laboratory under the school's supervision, and no tutoring arrangement changes that. What a tutor adds is the thinking around it - method design, what to measure and how often, which uncertainties matter, how to read a results table and identify the anomaly worth discussing. Those are analysis tasks that work well on a shared screen, where the data is visible to both people at once.

Does moving from Higher to Standard Level chemistry save money?+

It can reduce the hours needed, but it is a registration decision handled by the school's Diploma coordinator with a deadline attached, not something to arrange quietly in the final term. Ask the coordinator for the actual deadline during DP1 and get it in writing. Also check what the change does to university applications first: if a published entry requirement names Chemistry at Higher Level, a cheaper two years may cost more later. Decide on the destination, then on the level.

Do we need to memorise constants and bond enthalpies for the chemistry exams?+

No, and time spent on it is time taken from using the information. The chemistry data booklet is provided in the examination, so constants, ionisation data and bond enthalpy values are printed in front of the candidate. A surprising number of students arrive at a first session with flashcards for data they will be given, and redirecting that effort into applying it is often the fastest improvement available in the first fortnight of support.

How much should we budget for chemistry across the whole Diploma?+

Plan it in stages rather than as a monthly subscription. Published bands suggest roughly AED 1,500 to 4,500 for a ten to fifteen hour summer block before DP1, AED 600 to 1,200 a month for weekly support during DP1 and DP2 term one, AED 800 to 1,800 for a short investigation block at the design stage, and AED 1,000 to 2,000 or more a month for two sessions a week in the final six to eight weeks. Front-loading the cheap work is what keeps the total down.

What happens if no Higher Level chemistry specialist is free in our evening slot?+

We tell you, with the real alternatives and their rates: a different weekday time with the right specialist, a weekend slot, or a tutor whose working hours sit outside the Gulf evening peak. What we will not do is put a general science tutor in front of a Higher Level chemistry student because the hour was free. Higher Level Chemistry at peak Gulf time is one of the hardest intersections in this market to staff, and disclosing that is cheaper for everyone than concealing it.

Can a tutor give us IB past papers and mark schemes for chemistry?+

No, and you should be wary of anyone who offers to. IB, Cambridge and Pearson materials are copyright, and reproducing or distributing syllabus documents, past papers, mark schemes or grade-boundary tables is not something a legitimate tutor does. The papers your child practises on should come from the school or from the board's own site. A tutor's job is to set work from legitimate sources, mark it properly and explain what the marks were awarded for.

Tell us the level, the area and where the investigation stands

Three pieces of information get a chemistry plan right: Higher or Standard Level, which part of the guide the class is working through now, and whether the scientific investigation is unstarted, designed, collected or drafted. From those we can say which rate band the work genuinely needs, which four sessions come first, and what a term costs at published market rates. Then take the free trial lesson - one per student, before any payment, with no card details taken. Lessons run one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time.
