IB Physics Tutor in Al Mankhool

An IB physics tutor in Al Mankhool is planning against a calendar with an unusual feature: part of the course cannot be done at home at all. The scientific investigation needs laboratory access, and laboratory access is booked through the school months in advance. Add a subject whose second year depends on its first, and the result is a two-year course where timing decides more than effort does. This page lays that calendar out. Sessions run one-to-one over live video.

  • Investigation planned backwards from laboratory access, not from the deadline
  • Topics revisited on a schedule, because year two assumes year one
  • Mock scripts audited into four causes of lost marks
  • Honest about what a late block can and cannot reach in this subject

IB & IGCSE in Al Mankhool

The physics year has a date in it that nobody controls at home

Most Diploma subjects can be rescued at home. A student behind in Economics can read, write and be taught at a desk, in an evening, at any point in the two years. Physics has a component that cannot be done that way. The scientific investigation requires the student to collect their own data with real apparatus, and that apparatus sits in a school laboratory whose time is allocated by a timetable the family has no part in writing.

That single fact reorders everything. The date that matters is not the internal deadline for submitting the investigation; it is the last point at which laboratory access can realistically be obtained, which is earlier and much less visible. A student who settles on a research question two weeks before the deadline has not left themselves two weeks of work. They have left themselves no viable route to data at all, and the investigation they submit will be built on whatever they can measure without equipment.

The second structural feature is that Diploma Physics accumulates. Mechanics underpins energy; energy and algebraic handling underpin fields; fields and induction underpin a great deal of the second year, particularly at Higher Level. A student who passed through year one on intuition rather than on secure method does not discover the consequence immediately - they discover it twelve months later, in a term where there is no space to go back. In a subject like this, revision is not something that happens at the end. It is a maintenance schedule that runs through both years.

Families in Al Mankhool and Bur Dubai have an extra blind spot. The schools in this district mostly run to sixteen, so Diploma Physics students have usually moved campus, often recently. The household has no history with how that school sequences physics topics, how it schedules laboratory time, when its internal deadlines fall or how hard its mock papers are marked. A parent can genuinely not tell whether their child is behind the class, behind the syllabus, or simply being taught in an unfamiliar order.

So this page is organised around the dates rather than the topics. The laboratory calendar first, because it is the one with no flexibility. Then the dependency chain, so you can see which gaps block which later work. Then a maintenance schedule for revisiting topics across two years rather than cramming them in one term. Then the mock audit, the level-change decision and its school-set deadline, and what a late block in this subject can honestly reach. No IB examination or results date appears on this page: the IB's own site blocks automated checking, so none has been verified at source, and we will not publish a date a family would reorganise a year around.

At a glance

  • The binding date is the last viable laboratory access, not the submission deadline
  • Diploma Physics accumulates: year two assumes year one was secured, not merely covered
  • Revision in this subject is a two-year maintenance schedule, not a final-term activity
  • Ask the school for the laboratory timetable and the investigation deadline together
  • Most Diploma students in this district changed campus at sixteen - the calendar is unfamiliar
  • No IB session or results date is published here; none has been confirmed at source

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Where a student sits on the IB continuum changes which dates bind and what a block of sessions can be used for. Physics in particular behaves differently at each stage because the practical requirement changes.

Diploma Programme Physics

Taken at Higher or Standard Level, assessed through written papers plus an internally assessed scientific investigation that the student designs, runs and writes. Higher Level adds content and an additional paper, and the second year leans heavily on the first. The investigation's internal deadline is set by the school, and the laboratory time it requires is allocated by the school too.

Diploma provision near Al Mankhool sits outward from the district - Al Jaddaf, across the creek and toward Nad Al Sheba - so students from here commute, and their laboratory access is at a campus the family does not know well. Dubai's 2026-27 intake adds three new IB schools among seven new private schools, creating 16,846 places.

Middle Years Programme Sciences

Science taught as an integrated group and assessed against four criteria on a 1-8 scale rather than by terminal papers. Criterion B inquiring and designing and Criterion C processing and evaluating are the direct ancestors of the Diploma investigation, which makes this the cheapest place to learn investigation discipline properly.

There is no external deadline at this stage, which makes the planning problem entirely different. A block here is pre-emptive: investigation habits and algebraic handling built in Year 10 remove the two things that most often go wrong in Diploma year one, and they cost a fraction of what repairing them later costs.

Cambridge IGCSE Physics

Tiered Core and Extended, with practical skills assessed either through a practical examination or through the alternative-to-practical written paper depending on the centre's entry. Cambridge runs the exams in a June series and a November series for UAE candidates, and allocates every centre to one of six administrative timetable zones.

What a student took here predicts their first Diploma Physics term more reliably than any report comment. A student arriving from Core tier has a genuine content gap; one arriving from Extended with secure algebra usually copes. The summer between Year 11 and Year 12 is the only window in the whole sequence with no competing deadline.

Pearson Edexcel International GCSE Physics

The other pre-sixteen route sat in Dubai, with its own paper structure and question style. Pearson Edexcel International GCSE exams are available in May/June and November each year; the November 2026 final timetable ran from late October to 19 November 2026 and November 2025 results reached students on 22 January 2026.

Because schools in this belt split entries between boards, two Diploma Physics students starting Year 12 together may have had meaningfully different preparation and different practical-assessment routes. Establishing which, in the first session, saves a term of teaching aimed at the wrong starting point.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

Diploma Physics topics are not independent, which is what makes the calendar matter. Below are the main areas, with what each one blocks if it is not secure and roughly when it has to be solid.

Measurement and uncertainty

HL and SL

Taught early, treated as administrative, and then required in every data question and throughout the investigation. A student who never learned to propagate uncertainty properly loses marks in the investigation and in the papers, and the repair is short if it happens early.

Mechanics and kinematics

HL and SL

The foundation, and the usual site of an undetected gap because early confidence hides weak method. Blocks energy, momentum and anything involving resolved components. Must be secure by the end of the first year or the second year becomes repair work.

Energy, work and power

HL and SL

Depends on mechanics and on algebraic rearrangement. Students treat energy conservation as a formula rather than as a constraint on the whole situation, which is why they can state it correctly and still not know what to do with it in an unfamiliar context.

Thermal physics

HL and SL

Reasonably self-contained, which makes it a viable late target when other ground is lost. Marks go on precise definitions and on distinguishing temperature from thermal energy in explanations, both of which are writing discipline as much as physics.

Waves and oscillations

HL and SL

Conceptually approachable and mathematically unforgiving. Phase, path difference and superposition questions punish approximate reasoning, and students strong elsewhere often find their long-answer marks drop here without warning.

Electricity and circuits

HL and SL

Where marks disappear in volume. Students recite relationships and cannot reason about what happens to the rest of a circuit when one component changes. That reasoning is trainable with targeted questions and does not improve by re-reading notes.

Fields, induction and electromagnetism

Mainly Higher Level

Second-year content that assumes mechanics, algebra and trigonometric handling. It separates a comfortable Higher Level student from a struggling one, and it is the clearest case of why a year-one gap surfaces a year late.

Atomic, nuclear and particle physics

HL and SL

Mostly self-contained and therefore a sensible late block. Exponential behaviour in decay questions trips students whose mathematics course has not reached logarithmic handling, which is a mathematics gap rather than a physics one.

The scientific investigation

HL and SL

The component with a school-set deadline and a school-controlled laboratory requirement. Marks are lost on design and on uncertainty evaluation rather than on the experiment, and both require explaining choices rather than reporting results.

Mathematical handling for physics

Across both years

Rearrangement with squared terms, resolving components, gradients and areas as physical quantities, proportional reasoning and exponentials. Not physics, frequently the real gap, and best fixed in a short narrow block rather than inside a physics hour.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three blocks matched to the three things that actually go wrong in a Diploma Physics calendar. Each is aimed at a date rather than at a general sense that more physics would help.

Investigation planning block

A short run of sessions timed well before the school's internal deadline, aimed at the only part of the investigation that can be fixed cheaply: whether the research question can actually be answered with the apparatus the school can make available, and when that apparatus can be booked.

  • Research question tested against real apparatus constraints
  • Laboratory access lead time established with the school first
  • Criterion walkthrough so design and uncertainty are planned, not patched
  • The student's own draft questioned later; never written for them

Maintenance hour across both years

A weekly or fortnightly hour whose job is partly current content and partly keeping earlier topics alive, because the second year of this subject assumes the first. Students resist the revisiting because it feels like going backwards, and it is the reason Higher Level grades hold in year two.

  • Part current topic, part scheduled revisit of an earlier one
  • Diagram before algebra, every session, without exception
  • Earlier topics re-tested under time rather than re-explained
  • An end-of-year-one audit against what year two assumes

Final-term paper block

Two or three sessions a week in the closing weeks, built on full timed papers and the audit of them. No new content unless an audit demands it. This is what converts a student who understands the physics into one who earns the marks for understanding it.

  • Full papers under exam conditions at the correct level
  • Every lost mark assigned to content, method, misreading or the clock
  • Long-answer structure drilled on real question stems
  • Scheduled around the school's own mock window, not against it

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Al Mankhool

01

The laboratory is the immovable date

Work backwards from apparatus, not from the deadline. The scientific investigation requires the student to collect their own data, the apparatus lives in a school laboratory, and laboratory time is allocated by a timetable written around taught lessons rather than around individual coursework. That means there is a last viable date for data collection which sits well before the submission deadline, and it is the date almost nobody asks about.

The sequence has a lead time at every stage. Reading and thinking produces a candidate research question. The question has to be checked against what can actually be measured with available equipment, which often kills the first idea - and killing it early is cheap. Then the method has to be designed well enough that the laboratory session is productive, because a student who arrives with a vague plan burns their access and may not get another slot. Then the data is collected, then processed, then written up against the criteria.

Compress that and specific failures follow, all of them predictable. A question that cannot be answered with the apparatus available. A single data run with no repeats, so uncertainty cannot be evaluated properly. A range too narrow to show a relationship. A method that could not be refined because there was no second session. None of those is a knowledge failure and all of them cap the mark.

The table sets out the stages with who controls each date. Ask your child's school for the investigation deadline and the laboratory arrangement in the same conversation, at the start of the year, because the two together are the plan.

02

The dependency chain, and when each link has to hold

Diploma Physics is not a list of topics; it is a chain. Mechanics underpins energy. Energy and algebraic rearrangement underpin a great deal of the rest. Trigonometric handling and resolved components underpin fields. Fields underpin induction and electromagnetism, which is where Higher Level separates. A weak link does not announce itself where it sits - it announces itself in whatever topic comes next and needs it.

This is why a student can work steadily through year one, receive acceptable reports, and then fall away in year two. Nothing changed about their effort. The content changed to material that assumes fluency they never built, and by then the timetable has no space for going back. It is also why the end of year one is the highest-value audit point in the whole course: an afternoon spent testing whether the foundational handling is actually secure prevents the most common second-year collapse.

For a family deciding when to buy help, the chain gives a rule. Gaps in the early links are urgent regardless of how comfortable the current topic feels, because they compound. Gaps in self-contained topics - thermal, nuclear, parts of atomic physics - are not urgent and can be addressed late, which makes them good targets when weeks are short. Knowing which category a gap falls into is more useful than knowing how large it is.

The table maps the links. Use it to work out whether a reported weakness needs attention now or can wait, and take the actual teaching order from your child's school, which varies.

03

A maintenance schedule beats a final-term crammed revision

In a subject that accumulates across two years, leaving revision to the final term is a structural error rather than a matter of discipline. By the time the last term arrives there is too much material and too little time, and the student is also finishing an investigation, sitting mocks in five other subjects and completing Theory of Knowledge and Extended Essay requirements. The capacity simply is not there.

The alternative is unglamorous and it works: a schedule of revisits running through both years. Part of each session, or every second session, spent re-testing an earlier topic under time rather than re-explaining it. The distinction matters. Re-explaining produces recognition, which feels like knowledge and disappears. Re-testing produces retrieval, which is what an examination requires and what survives.

Students dislike this intensely because it has no sense of forward motion, and it is the single practice that most reliably protects a Higher Level grade in year two. A topic touched three times across eighteen months at widening intervals is held; a topic taught once in year one and revised once at the end is not, however well it was taught the first time.

There is a practical version of this that costs nothing extra. Before each new topic, spend the first ten minutes of the session on a short retrieval test of whatever earlier topic the new one depends on. It takes a tenth of the hour, it tells the tutor immediately whether the new content has a foundation to stand on, and it stops the common pattern where a student is taught fields on top of mechanics they can no longer use. Over a year that amounts to several hours of maintenance that nobody had to schedule separately.

The table gives a workable rhythm. Fit it to your child's school's actual teaching order, which varies, and treat the intervals as a guide rather than a prescription.

The mock script, read the physics way

  • Audit the script into four causes before anybody discusses the grade
  • A correct answer with no working or no unit forfeits marks already earned
  • Descriptions written where the verb asked for an explanation are the commonest misread
  • Long answers score on a linked causal chain, not on a quantity of true statements
  • Making the diagram non-optional removes a whole category of losses
  • Compare a second audit against the first; if nothing shifted, change the plan

Mocks are the only marked timed scripts a Diploma Physics student sees before the real papers, and in this subject they are especially informative because the failure modes are so distinguishable. Spend one session auditing rather than discussing the grade, and the remaining weeks organise themselves.

The four causes are the same as in any subject - content not known, method not shown, question misread, time ran out - but each looks particular in physics. Content not known usually appears as a blank or an abandoned question in a topic the student cannot enter. Method not shown appears as a correct final answer with no working, or as a numerical answer with no unit, both of which forfeit marks that were earned. Question misread appears most often as a description written where the command verb asked for an explanation. Time ran out appears as unattempted questions at the end of a paper the student could have answered.

The long-answer pattern deserves separate attention because it accounts for so much. A student who knows the physics writes a set of true statements, and the mark scheme awards credit for a linked chain: this happens, which causes this, which means this. Unlinked truth scores poorly. Students need to see this marked against the real scheme two or three times before they accept that writing less, in order, scores more.

Then there is the diagram. Physics questions involving geometry - inclines, fields, forces in two dimensions - are routinely failed by students who attempt the algebra without drawing first. Making a diagram non-optional is one instruction, it takes a single session to establish, and it converts a reliable category of lost marks into earned ones for the rest of the course.

05

Dropping from Higher to Standard: a decision with a school deadline

Some of the families who arrive asking for physics help are in a different conversation. The student was placed in Higher Level on the strength of an IGCSE grade rather than on demonstrated algebraic fluency, the content is cumulative, and they are working hard and falling behind anyway. No quantity of tuition fixes a structural mismatch in a subject that builds on itself.

Whether a move to Standard Level is available, and until when, is set entirely by the school. Some permit it during the first term of year one and not afterwards; some have an earlier cut-off tied to their own internal deadlines. The date is rarely advertised and is almost always earlier than a struggling family would like. Asking about it costs nothing, commits to nothing, and is far better done in the autumn than in the spring.

A short diagnostic block is the right way to generate evidence for that conversation. Two or three sessions with a specialist, working through questions at the current level, will distinguish a fixable gap from a genuine mismatch - and crucially will say which. That finding is more useful in a meeting with a coordinator than a parent's impression, and it is a small purchase relative to a term of the wrong plan.

If a change is not available, say so and reset the goal honestly. A mismatched Higher Level student can still gain substantially through method marks, long-answer structure, diagram discipline and paper timing, without ever becoming comfortable with the hardest second-year content. That is a legitimate target. What is not legitimate is selling a term of work on the implication that the gap will close when it will not.

06

The mathematics underneath, and when to fix it

A large share of Diploma Physics students who need help do not have a physics problem. They explain the mechanism correctly, name the right relationship, and then stop. The failure is in the mathematical handling, and because the timetable says physics, that is what the family buys. Understanding improves, the grade does not move.

The diagnostic takes minutes. Give the student a problem they have described correctly and watch where the pencil stops. Stopping at rearranging a relationship to make a different quantity the subject is an algebra gap. Stopping at reading a gradient or an area off a graph is a graphical one. Stopping at splitting a vector into components is trigonometry. Stopping at decay or attenuation is exponential and logarithmic handling. None of those is taught by teaching physics.

The awkward part is ownership. A student taking Physics Higher Level alongside Mathematics Applications and Interpretation at Standard Level is in a genuine gap: the physics assumes handling that mathematics course does not teach, the physics teacher assumes the mathematics course covers it, and nobody is responsible. It is nobody's fault and it is entirely fixable, usually in a narrow block of three or four sessions rather than a term.

On timing, this is urgent rather than deferrable, because the handling is needed across every subsequent topic. A mathematics gap identified in year one and closed in four sessions costs almost nothing. The same gap carried into fields and induction in year two makes a demanding topic impossible and consumes a term that was needed elsewhere.

07

Term block or spot block: how to buy this subject

Physics support divides naturally into two purchases, and conflating them is how budgets go wrong. A term block is a weekly or fortnightly maintenance hour running alongside the course, doing current content and scheduled revisits. A spot block is three to five sessions aimed at one identified thing: the mathematical handling, the investigation plan, the long-answer structure, one self-contained topic. The first is a commitment; the second is a repair.

Most families default to the term block because it is the familiar shape, and a good proportion of them needed a spot block. A student whose only real problem is that they do not draw diagrams, or do not write units, or cannot rearrange, needs two or three sessions and a habit, not thirty weeks. Conversely, a Higher Level student in a cumulative subject with a genuine foundation gap needs the term block, and a spot block will not hold.

For reference, the published bands, each attributed to the provider that published it and read in October 2026. Tutopiya advertises from AED 33 to 52 an hour and EdFlik from AED 45 to 65. Bestimate's Tutoring Cost Dubai 2026 table puts qualified online tuition at AED 150 to 300 and specialist IB, IGCSE and A Level provision at AED 200 to 450 or more, with Unitors publishing IB from AED 200 and TutorChase AED 270. In-home one-to-one including travel is quoted at AED 180 to 500, and BartyED publishes AED 650. None is an IB Gram price. Monthly, one Dubai provider publishes AED 799 for eight online sessions, near AED 100 an hour; in-home monthly packages are advertised at AED 1,599 to AED 1,799 for four two-hour visits.

IB Gram does not offer home visits in the UAE; in-home tutoring is a service we offer only in India. Diploma Physics sessions for Al Mankhool students run one-to-one over live video, which for this subject carries a practical benefit beyond the rate: diagrams, graphs and worked algebra sit on a shared annotated screen rather than on a notebook turned sideways at the edge of a table.

08

Regulators, the permit and the periods inside the school day

KHDA is responsible for enhancing and overseeing the quality of private education in Dubai and publishes inspection reports on a six-band scale from Outstanding to Very Weak. For a physics family that is directly useful, because the report comments on science provision. If science teaching is named as a strength, the laboratory and taught side is in capable hands and a private hour belongs on theory, mathematical handling and the investigation plan. If science is flagged as an area for improvement, the balance shifts.

Across the country, ADEK supervises the licensing and accreditation of private schools in Abu Dhabi and Al Ain, the Sharjah Private Education Authority regulates private education in Sharjah, Ras Al Khaimah's Department of Knowledge regulates it there, and the Ministry of Education supervises private schools in Ajman, Umm Al Quwain and Fujairah. Sharjah's and Ras Al Khaimah's authorities also approve tuition fees, curricula, programmes, courses, activities and assessment methods. ADEK is named by none of the competitor pages researched for this project.

On tutors, the position is checkable. The MoHRE private tuition work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023 and is granted free of charge for two years, covering teachers registered in government or private schools, employees in the government and private sectors, unemployed individuals, university students and school students aged 15 to 18. MoHRE's own service is Issuance of a New Work Permit - Private Tutor Licensing, with a two-working-day completion time. Operating without a permit carries fines and penalties under the applicable laws; no fine schedule is published, so no amount is quoted. IB Gram holds no regulator accreditation, no KHDA institute permit and no UAE office.

Finally, the periods that squeeze the physics week. Arabic, Islamic Education and Social or Moral Studies are mandatory in all Dubai private schools regardless of the licensed curriculum, with KHDA's requirements due from the start of the 2025-26 academic year or April 2026 where the year begins in April. Instructional time is calculated on a forty-minute lesson unit, and KHDA advises at least twenty-five minutes for any mandatory-subject lesson. Those periods sit inside the day alongside six Diploma subjects, a laboratory requirement, Theory of Knowledge and the Extended Essay, which is why the available study time is always less than a timetable suggests. Ramadan compresses it further: school hours shorten, the day changes shape, and the sensible move is to agree in advance that the physics hour shifts to a post-Iftar slot for that period and returns afterwards.

Where we tutor

Which calendar each neighbourhood is on

Students from this district attend Diploma schools in several directions, and those schools do not share laboratory timetables, investigation deadlines or mock windows. The notes below are about that variation.

Al Mankhool

A mixed intake across British, Indian and IB provision, so neighbouring families are working to different school calendars entirely. Comparing an investigation deadline with a friend in the same building is a reliable way to be misled about your own.

Bur Dubai and Al Fahidi

Long-established schools running mostly to sixteen, so Diploma Physics students have moved campus. The household has no history with the new school's laboratory allocation, which is exactly the thing the investigation depends on.

Karama

Dense and close, with a large informal tuition market. The risk in a subject like physics is buying a general science tutor at short notice, because Diploma Physics at Higher Level is a narrower specialism than it looks from outside.

Al Satwa and Al Hamriya

Students travelling in several directions, so two children in one household may be on two different science assessment routes - one with a practical examination, one with an alternative-to-practical paper. The entry statement distinguishes them.

Al Jafiliya and Za'abeel

Working-parent households where sessions sit late. Physics tolerates an evening hour only if it is narrow: one topic, worked problems, no new theory. A wide session after a long day and a double science period achieves very little.

Oud Metha

The adjacent school belt with several large schools running to sixteen. Mock windows and internal deadlines differ between those schools and the Diploma campuses, so a shared plan across two students usually fits neither.

Al Jaddaf and Dubai Healthcare City

The nearest IB continuum option, so some students here have been on the same school's calendar for years. Those families usually know the laboratory and deadline rhythm in advance, which is a genuine planning advantage in this subject.

Deira and Al Garhoud

Across the creek with its own Diploma provision. Students travelling that way lose the late afternoon to the crossing, which matters most in a final-term block when paper volume has to increase.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Ask the school two things at once

The internal deadline for the scientific investigation and how laboratory access is allocated. Those two together are the real calendar for this subject, and the second one is the question almost no family thinks to ask until data collection has become impossible.

  2. 02

Send the level and the maths route

Physics Higher or Standard Level plus the Mathematics course and level taken alongside it. That combination predicts most of what will go wrong, and a Higher Level physics student on Applications and Interpretation Standard Level needs a specific gap closed early.

  3. 03

Free trial lesson on a problem already attempted

A full session at no charge, built around a question the student has already tried. Watching where the pencil stops distinguishes a physics gap from a mathematics gap from a long-answer writing gap, which are three different plans for the same money.

  4. 04

Decide term block or spot block, explicitly

A weekly maintenance hour with scheduled revisits, or three to five sessions aimed at one identified thing. Most families default to the first and a good proportion needed the second, and we would rather name that than sell the larger commitment.

  5. 05

    Audit, then re-audit

Progress is measured on marked scripts audited into content, method, misreading and the clock, and on whether the investigation is on schedule against the laboratory calendar. If neither moves across a block, the plan or the tutor changes.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

Planned from laboratory access backwards

The investigation's binding date is the last viable data-collection slot, not the submission deadline, and it is set by the school's laboratory timetable. We plan from that, because a question settled too late has no route to data regardless of how hard anybody then works.

Dependencies named, not discovered late

Mechanics, uncertainty and algebraic handling block most of year two. We treat gaps in those as urgent whatever the current topic feels like, and self-contained topics such as thermal and nuclear physics as the sensible late targets.

Revisits scheduled across both years

In an accumulating subject, re-testing earlier topics under time through both years protects a Higher Level grade far better than a crammed final term. Students resist it because it has no forward motion, which is precisely why it needs scheduling.

The mathematics gap diagnosed separately

Many physics students who need help have an algebra, graph, trigonometry or logarithm problem wearing a physics badge. Physics Higher Level with Applications and Interpretation Standard Level is the standard case. We fix it in a narrow block rather than selling physics hours.

Honest about a level mismatch

Where a student is genuinely mismatched to Higher Level, a diagnostic block produces evidence for a conversation with the school while a change is still possible - and if it is not, we reset the goal to what method, structure and timing can realistically reach.

Nothing claimed that cannot be shown

No regulator approval, no UAE office, no grade guarantees, no IB dates we have not verified at source, no board documents supplied, and every dirham figure attributed to the provider that published it with the month read.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Al Mankhool: your questions answered

What is the real deadline for the IB Physics investigation?+

Not the submission date - the last point at which laboratory access can realistically be obtained, which sits well before it and is set by the school's laboratory timetable. A student who settles on a research question a fortnight before submission has no viable route to data, and the investigation ends up built on whatever can be measured without equipment. Ask the school for the internal deadline and the laboratory arrangement in the same conversation, at the start of the year. The second question is the one families forget to ask.

What goes wrong when investigation data collection is rushed?+

Four things, all predictable and all capping the mark. A research question that cannot actually be answered with the apparatus available. A single data run with no repeats, so uncertainty cannot be evaluated properly. A range too narrow to show the relationship the question claims. And a method that could not be refined because there was no second laboratory slot. None of those is a knowledge failure. All of them are consequences of compressing a sequence that needs weeks of lead time at the feasibility and booking stages.

Why do Higher Level physics grades sometimes fall in the second year?+

Because the subject accumulates and year two assumes year one was secured rather than merely covered. Mechanics underpins energy; algebra and resolved components underpin fields; fields underpin induction and electromagnetism, where Higher Level separates. A student who passed through year one on intuition meets the consequence twelve months later, in a term with no space to go back. The prevention is an audit at the end of year one - one diagnostic paper, honestly marked, against what year two will assume.

Which physics topics are urgent to fix and which can wait?+

Urgent: measurement and uncertainty, algebraic rearrangement, mechanics and resolving components, because each blocks a large amount of later work and gaps there compound. Can wait: thermal physics and much of atomic and nuclear physics, which are largely self-contained and therefore good late targets when weeks are short. Knowing which category a reported weakness falls into is more useful than knowing how large it is, because it tells you whether the hours are needed now or can be scheduled.

Is it better to revise physics throughout the course or in the final term?+

Throughout, and in an accumulating subject that is a structural point rather than a discipline one. By the final term there is too much material and too little capacity, with an investigation finishing, mocks in five other subjects, Theory of Knowledge and the Extended Essay all competing. The alternative is a revisit rhythm: part of each session re-testing an earlier topic under time rather than re-explaining it. Re-explaining produces recognition, which fades. Re-testing produces retrieval, which is what the papers require.

My child explains the physics correctly and still loses marks. What is wrong?+

Usually the mathematical handling. Give them a problem they have described correctly and watch where the pencil stops: rearranging a relationship is an algebra gap, reading a gradient or area off a graph is graphical, splitting a vector is trigonometry, decay questions are exponentials and logarithms. None of those is fixed by teaching physics, which is why a term of physics tuition can improve understanding without moving the grade. A narrow block of three or four sessions on the specific skill usually does more.

Can Physics Higher Level work alongside Maths Applications and Interpretation SL?+

It can, provided somebody explicitly teaches the handling the physics assumes and that mathematics course does not cover - rearrangement with squared terms, resolved components, gradients and areas as physical quantities, proportional reasoning, exponential behaviour. The problem is ownership: the physics teacher assumes the maths course covers it, the maths course has a different syllabus, and nobody is responsible. Identify it in year one and close it in four sessions; carried into fields and induction in year two it makes a demanding topic impossible.

How should we read my child's mock physics script?+

Audit it into four causes before discussing the grade: content not known, method not shown, question misread, time ran out. In physics each has a signature. Content appears as abandoned questions in a topic the student cannot enter. Method appears as a correct answer with no working or no unit, forfeiting marks already earned. Misreading appears as a description where the verb asked for an explanation. The clock appears as unattempted questions the student could have answered. Count them, then build the plan from the count.

Why do long-answer physics questions score so badly for students who know the topic?+

Because the mark scheme rewards a linked causal chain rather than a quantity of true statements. A student writes eight correct sentences about a phenomenon and scores about half, while three sentences connected properly - this happens, which causes this, which means this - score well. Explicit connective language earns the links. Students find this counterintuitive because the fix means writing less, and they need to see it marked against the real scheme two or three times before they trust it. It then transfers across every topic.

Could my child be in the wrong level for physics altogether?+

It happens, usually when a Higher Level placement was made on an overall IGCSE grade rather than on demonstrated algebraic fluency. In a cumulative subject that mismatch cannot be out-worked. Whether a move to Standard Level is available is set by the school, often only within the first term of year one, and the date is rarely advertised. Two or three diagnostic sessions on current-level questions will distinguish a fixable gap from a genuine mismatch, and that finding is far more useful in a meeting than an impression.

How big is the step from IGCSE Physics to Diploma Physics?+

Larger in mathematical demand than in content, and much larger from the Core tier than from Extended. A student arriving from 0625 Extended or 4PH1 with secure algebra usually copes; one arriving from Core has a real content gap that surfaces in the October of Diploma year one. The investigation is the other unfamiliar element, particularly for students who came through an alternative-to-practical route. The summer before Year 12 is the only window in the sequence with no competing deadline, which makes it the cheapest place to act.

Should we buy a weekly hour or a short block for physics?+

Depends on what is actually wrong, and the two are different purchases. A student whose problem is that they do not draw diagrams, do not write units, or cannot rearrange needs three sessions and a habit, not thirty weeks. A Higher Level student with a genuine foundation gap in a cumulative subject needs the weekly maintenance hour with scheduled revisits, and a short block will not hold. Most families default to the weekly hour and a good proportion needed the short one, which is worth establishing in the first session.

What does Diploma Physics support cost around Al Mankhool?+

Published Dubai rates run AED 33 to 65 an hour at the budget end - Tutopiya from AED 33 to 52, EdFlik from AED 45 to 65 - AED 150 to 300 for qualified online tuition on Bestimate's 2026 table, AED 200 upward from Unitors for IB, AED 200 to 450 or more for specialist provision, AED 270 from TutorChase and AED 650 from BartyED. In-home including travel is quoted at AED 180 to 500. Monthly, one provider publishes AED 799 for eight online sessions. All read October 2026, all theirs rather than ours.

Does the school's inspection report help us decide what to buy?+

More than usual in a science subject. KHDA inspects Dubai private schools on a six-band scale from Outstanding to Very Weak and publishes the reports free, and they comment on science provision specifically. If science teaching is named as a strength, the taught and laboratory side is in capable hands and a private hour belongs on theory, mathematical handling and the investigation plan. If science is flagged for improvement, a weekly maintenance hour is doing more structural work and is worth more.

How do we keep physics going through Ramadan and term breaks?+

By deciding in advance rather than improvising. School hours shorten during Ramadan, the day changes shape and productive energy moves to after Iftar, so a slot that works in a normal term will not survive unchanged - agree beforehand that the hour shifts to a post-Iftar time and returns afterwards. For term breaks, count them out of any block before it is agreed: a notional eight-week plan in the UAE academic year routinely delivers six, and the plan should be built for the real number.

How long does it take to match a Higher Level physics tutor here?+

We say so rather than putting a general science tutor in the slot. Diploma Physics at Higher Level is a narrower specialism than Chemistry or Mathematics and the pool is smaller, so the honest options are to wait for the right person, to begin with a related specialist on a clearly stated interim basis, or not to book. Because delivery is online rather than by somebody driving across Dubai, the pool is every Higher Level Physics specialist available rather than the few who would travel into Al Mankhool.

Ask about the laboratory, then plan the two years

The two questions that decide a Diploma Physics year are both answered by the school and both are easy to ask. When is the internal deadline for the scientific investigation, and how is laboratory time allocated for data collection? Those two together give you the only date in the subject that genuinely cannot move. Then establish whether the problem is physics, mathematics or long-answer writing by bringing a problem your child has already attempted to a free trial lesson, and decide deliberately between a weekly maintenance hour and a short targeted block. Sessions run one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time.
