IB Tutor near me in Al Mankhool

Searching for an IB tutor near me in Al Mankhool returns distance. What a Diploma student needs is a subject and a level: Chemistry Higher Level is a different job from Chemistry Standard Level, and both are a different job from History Higher Level. This page is written from the syllabus out - the components, the command terms, the internal assessments and the mark-scheme traps that cost marks in every subject group. IB Gram matches on subject and level and teaches one-to-one over live video.

  • Matched on subject group and level, not on driving distance
  • Command-term and mark-scheme work on the student's own scripts
  • Internal assessment coached to the criteria, never written for them
  • A free trial lesson with the specialist, before anything is committed

IB & IGCSE in Al Mankhool

A proximity search answers the wrong question

Al Mankhool sits in a dense part of old Dubai where almost everything is close. The Bur Dubai schools are minutes away, Karama is across the road, Oud Metha's school belt is a short drive, and the creek and Deira are not far. A search for an IB tutor near me in Al Mankhool therefore returns plenty of results, and the parent is left comparing them on the only axis the search offered: how close they are.

Distance is not the variable that decides whether the sessions work. The Diploma is six subjects drawn from six groups, taken at two levels, each with its own written components, its own internally assessed piece and its own grading criteria. A tutor who is strong in Economics Standard Level is not therefore useful for Biology Higher Level, and a tutor who is excellent at Mathematics has no particular insight into what a History essay has to do to reach the top band. Within the Diploma, subject and level is the unit of competence. Everything else, including geography, is secondary.

This is where a lot of Diploma tuition in this district quietly underdelivers. A family finds somebody nearby who teaches the IB, the sessions are pleasant and well-organised, and the student's marks move slightly or not at all. The tutor was competent. They were simply not a specialist in the component that was losing the marks, and nobody had established which component that was.

So this page starts from the syllabus rather than from the neighbourhood. What each subject group's assessment actually consists of, and where its marks are habitually lost. What the command terms demand, because in the Diploma the difference between describe, explain, discuss and evaluate is worth more marks than most content gaps. What each subject's internal assessment is, and exactly where a tutor's legitimate help ends. What Theory of Knowledge and the Extended Essay require, since they are the two components almost nobody tutors competently. And how to use a past paper properly, which almost no student does.

One structural fact about this district is worth holding onto while you read. Because the schools in Bur Dubai, Karama and Al Mankhool largely run to sixteen, most Diploma students here have moved campus, and their six-subject combination was settled at a school the family had known for weeks rather than years. Nobody at home has a long history with the way that school runs its internal deadlines, which supervisor takes which Extended Essay subject, or how its mock papers are marked. That is a real information gap, and it is the reason the first useful conversation with a tutor is about components and criteria rather than about topics.

A note on what you will not find here. No IB session or results date is published on this page. The IB's own site blocks automated checking, so no date in this project has been confirmed from the IB directly, and a date a family plans around should not rest on a guess. Take yours from your school's IB coordinator or from ibo.org. Everything else below is either from a named source or is a description of how the assessment works, and we would rather say nothing than publish a figure we cannot stand behind.

At a glance

  • Subject plus level is the unit of matching in the Diploma; geography is not
  • Command terms carry more recoverable marks than most content gaps
  • Every subject has its own internal assessment with its own criteria and its own limits on help
  • Theory of Knowledge and the Extended Essay are the least competently tutored components in this market
  • A past paper is only useful once it has been marked against the official scheme and audited
  • We publish no IB exam or results dates, because none has been verified from the IB itself
IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

The IB runs as a continuum, and a student in this district may be at any point in it. What a tutor should be doing differs completely between the stages, because the assessment model changes rather than merely getting harder.

DPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

Diploma Programme

Six subjects from six groups, three usually at Higher Level, plus the Extended Essay, Theory of Knowledge and Creativity, Activity, Service. Each subject carries written components and an internally assessed piece. Grades are awarded 1 to 7 per subject against published criteria, with additional points available from the Extended Essay and Theory of Knowledge combination.

Diploma provision near Al Mankhool sits mostly outward from the district - Al Jaddaf, across the creek toward Festival City, and out toward Nad Al Sheba - because the schools in Bur Dubai and Karama largely run to sixteen. Dubai's 2026-27 intake adds three new IB schools among seven new private schools, creating 16,846 places in total, so that map is still changing.

MYPAges 11-16 · Years 7-11

Middle Years Programme

Eight subject groups assessed against four criteria each on a 1-8 scale, with no terminal examination papers in most schools. Because the criteria reward process and reflection rather than recall, a student can be strong in MYP and still be unprepared for the Diploma's written components - and the reverse is also true.

Where a student continues from MYP into the Diploma at the same school, the internal assessment skills transfer and the written-paper discipline is the gap. Where a student arrives from IGCSE instead, written papers feel familiar and the internally assessed work is the unfamiliar part. Knowing which of the two your child is predicts most of what they will need.

PYPAges 3-12 · Foundation to Year 6

Primary Years Programme

Inquiry-led, with no external examinations and an exhibition in the final year. Support at this stage is about literacy and numeracy fundamentals and about the habits of structured written explanation, which is where the eventual Diploma marks begin even though nothing is being assessed for a grade yet.

Several continuum schools within reach of Al Mankhool run the PYP, and families who intend the Diploma later sometimes assume the pathway makes preparation automatic. It does not. The written discipline the Diploma rewards has to be built deliberately somewhere between Year 5 and Year 11, and the earlier it starts the cheaper it is.

IGCSEAges 14-16 · Years 10-11

The IGCSE route into the Diploma

The majority route in this part of Dubai, since the schools in Bur Dubai, Karama and Oud Metha largely run Cambridge or Pearson qualifications to sixteen. Subject choices at this stage constrain which Higher Levels are realistic afterwards, with mathematics and the sciences the usual pinch points.

The practical consequence for a family in Al Mankhool is that the Diploma usually means a change of campus, a longer day and an unfamiliar assessment model all arriving in the same September. A short bridging block in the summer beforehand, aimed at the specific subjects chosen, is the cheapest intervention available in the whole two years.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

Diploma subjects fail in characteristic ways, and the characteristic failure is usually more recoverable than the content. Below are the subjects students in this district most often need, with where the marks actually go in each.

English A: Language and Literature

HL and SL

Marks are lost on analysis that describes a text's content instead of examining how the writer produces an effect. The individual oral and the paper on unseen texts both reward a line of argument sustained across the response rather than a sequence of observations.

English B and language acquisition

HL and SL

Students with strong conversational fluency frequently underperform because the assessment rewards register, structure and the handling of a specific text type. Learning the conventions of each required text type moves marks faster than general practice does.

Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches

HL and SL

The algebra and calculus route. The commonest loss is method marks forfeited by working mentally and writing only an answer, followed by question misinterpretation - executing a correct technique on a question that asked for something else.

Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation

HL and SL

Modelling, statistics and technology use. Marks go missing in the written interpretation rather than the arithmetic: a model's limitations have to be stated and evaluated, and students who compute well often say nothing about what the model cannot do.

Biology

HL and SL

Content-heavy, so students revise by reading and feel prepared. The marks sit in data interpretation, in the precision of definitions and in explaining mechanisms step by step rather than naming them. Past-paper work exposes this within one session.

Chemistry

HL and SL

Mole calculations and organic chemistry take most of the hours. The extended-response questions reward linked reasoning rather than a list of correct facts, which is a trainable structure and therefore one of the cheaper things to fix.

Physics

HL and SL

Often a mathematics problem wearing a physics badge: the student explains the mechanism correctly and then cannot rearrange, resolve components or read a gradient. Diagnose which before buying physics hours, because the two need different teaching.

Economics

HL and SL

Diagrams and evaluation carry the upper bands. Students who learn definitions and ignore the evaluation requirement cap themselves in the middle of the range however much content they add. Higher Level's quantitative element catches out those who chose it as a non-mathematical subject.

Business Management

HL and SL

Application to the specific case is what distinguishes the bands. Generic answers about a concept score poorly against answers that use the given organisation's actual circumstances, and that discipline is quick to teach and rarely taught.

History

HL and SL

Argument rather than narrative. The most frequent failure is a chronological account where the question asked for an evaluation of causes or significance, and the source paper demands a specific technique for comparing and assessing provenance.

Psychology

HL and SL

Studies have to be used as evidence for a claim, not recounted. Marks are lost by describing research in detail without connecting it to the question's demand, and by neglecting the critical evaluation the upper bands require.

Visual Arts and the arts group

HL and SL

Assessment rests on the comparative study, the process portfolio and the exhibition, all of which reward documented thinking over finished output. Students who make strong work and document it thinly lose marks they have already earned.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three ways Diploma support is bought, distinguished by what they are actually for. The error families make is buying the broadest option when the narrowest would have answered the question.

Single-subject specialist hour

One subject, one level, one tutor, weekly. This is the mode the Diploma rewards, because the components, criteria and mark-scheme habits differ so much between subjects that breadth in a tutor is a cost rather than a benefit. A student needing two subjects is better served by two specialists than by one generalist.

  • Matched to the subject group and level, not to the curriculum label
  • Work built around the student's own marked scripts
  • Command-term and mark-scheme training on real question stems
  • Same hour weekly, chosen against the school's term calendar

Component repair block

A short, narrow run of sessions aimed at one identified component: the source-based History paper, the Economics evaluation question, the data-analysis questions in Biology. It is scoped from a marked script rather than from a syllabus, and it is usually three to five sessions rather than a term.

  • Scoped from an actual marked paper, not from a report comment
  • One component, one question type, until it is reliable
  • Marked against the official criteria every session
  • Ends when the component is fixed, not when the term does

Core component sessions

Sessions on the Extended Essay, Theory of Knowledge or an internal assessment process, timed around the school's own deadlines. These are the components most often neglected and most often handled badly by providers, and they carry points that affect the final Diploma total.

  • Research question or prompt viability tested early enough to change
  • Criteria walked through explicitly, band by band
  • The student's own draft questioned; never written or rewritten
  • Scheduled from the school's internal deadlines, not the exam window

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Al Mankhool

01

Six subject groups, six different assessments

The single most useful thing a parent can understand about the Diploma is that it is not one qualification with six subjects in it. It is six separate assessment regimes that happen to be sat by the same student. The sciences carry an internally assessed investigation and reward precise mechanism. The language A subjects carry an oral and reward sustained argument about how a text works. Mathematics carries an exploration and rewards visible method. The individuals and societies group rewards evaluation and the handling of sources. The arts reward documented process.

That is why the question "can you tutor the IB?" has no useful answer. The right question names a subject and a level and then asks what that subject's components are and which one the student is losing marks on. A tutor who cannot answer that for your child's specific subject within the first session is not going to be able to fix it in the tenth.

The practical consequence for a family in Al Mankhool with two children or with a child needing two subjects is that one tutor is rarely the efficient answer. Two specialists on two subjects, each knowing one set of criteria properly, outperform one capable generalist across both - and because delivery is online the scheduling of two back-to-back hours is straightforward rather than a logistical problem.

The table below sets out what each group's assessment actually consists of and where the marks habitually go. Confirm component weightings from your school's subject outline; the shape of the assessment is what is described here, not the percentages.

02

Command terms are the cheapest marks in the Diploma

Across every Diploma subject, the instruction at the start of the question determines the shape of the answer that scores. State wants a fact with no justification. Describe wants an account of features. Explain wants a mechanism or a reason. Compare wants similarities and differences held together rather than two separate descriptions. Discuss wants a balanced consideration. Evaluate and to what extent want a judgement, supported, with the counter-case acknowledged.

Students lose enormous numbers of marks to this and almost nobody teaches it, because it is not content and so does not feel like teaching. The pattern is always the same: a student who knows the material writes a competent description in response to an explain command and scores half the available marks. They leave the exam feeling it went well, because they did write everything they knew. The gap between what they know and what their grade says is sitting entirely in the verb.

This is the first thing to look for in a marked script, and it is visible within minutes. Take the script, find every question where the student scored below half, and read the command term. If the same verb keeps appearing, that is the plan for the next three sessions, and it will move more marks per hour than any topic work. It also transfers across subjects, which is rare: a student trained to answer evaluate properly in Economics writes better History essays as a side effect.

The table gives the common terms, what the examiner is looking for, and the wrong answer students reliably produce instead. Subject guides define command terms formally - take the authoritative wording from your child's own subject guide.

COMMAND TERMS AND THE ANSWER THAT ACTUALLY SCORES
Command termWhat the mark scheme wantsThe answer students give insteadWhat to practise
StateA fact or quantity, no justification neededA paragraph, wasting time available elsewhereAnswering briefly and moving on

03

Every subject's internal assessment, and where help has to stop

Each Diploma subject carries an internally assessed component written by the student, at home, over weeks, against published criteria. These components are where the most marks are available per hour of work and where the most marks are casually thrown away - and they are the part of the Diploma most exposed to help that crosses a line.

The boundary is not vague, and stating it plainly is a service rather than a disclaimer. A tutor may explain what each criterion rewards and in what band. A tutor may test whether a research question, topic or prompt can actually sustain the work required. A tutor may model a technique on a completely different example. A tutor may read the student's own draft and question reasoning that does not hold. A tutor may point out that a section does not address the criterion it is meant to address. A tutor may not write, draft, rewrite, edit to completion or supply any part of it.

IB Gram tutors do not produce assessed work. That matters commercially as well as ethically, because this search result contains operations that do: one sells completed Internal Assessments outright at a published dirham price. Under IB academic-honesty rules that is a malpractice trigger, and the finding lands on the student rather than on the seller. A parent buying it is buying a risk on their child's behalf.

We also do not reproduce or supply IB syllabus documents, past papers, mark schemes, grade-boundary tables or subject guides. Those are published and owned by the IB, your child's school holds the current versions, and a tutor's work is to teach against them rather than to hand them over. The table names what each group's internal assessment is and what a tutor may legitimately do with it.

Theory of Knowledge and the Extended Essay, which almost nobody tutors well

  • The Extended Essay's research question is where the grade is decided, and it is free to get right
  • Too broad produces a summary; too narrow runs out of material; the wrong subject cannot be marked
  • Theory of Knowledge rewards working with knowledge claims, not asserting opinions confidently
  • Examples in a Theory of Knowledge essay must do argumentative work, not decorate a point
  • The school appoints the supervisor and sets the deadlines; a tutor's role is subordinate to both
  • Ask for both deadlines at the start of the year, not in the term they land

Two components sit outside the six subjects and carry points toward the Diploma total: the Extended Essay, an independent research piece, and Theory of Knowledge, assessed through an exhibition and an essay. Together they are the most neglected part of the Diploma in the tutoring market, partly because they are hard to teach and partly because neither fits the subject-specialist model that the rest of the programme rewards.

The Extended Essay fails for a predictable reason: the research question. A question that is too broad produces a summary rather than an argument; a question that is too narrow runs out of material; a question in the wrong subject cannot be assessed against that subject's criteria. All three are fixed cheaply at the start and expensively later, which is why the useful sessions happen before the student has written anything rather than after they have written a draft they are attached to.

Theory of Knowledge fails differently. Students treat it as an essay about opinions and write assertively without the discipline the criteria actually ask for: working with knowledge claims, examining how different areas of knowledge justify what they claim, and using examples that do real argumentative work rather than decorating a point already made. It is teachable, it is rarely taught, and the marks are available.

The supervisor for both is appointed by the school, and the school's internal deadlines govern the timetable. A tutor's role is explicitly subordinate to that: coaching the thinking, testing the question, explaining the criteria, questioning the draft. Not writing it, not editing it to completion, and not replacing the supervisor. Ask the school for the Extended Essay and Theory of Knowledge deadlines at the start of the year; they are earlier than students assume and they are the dates everything else has to fit around.

05

How to use a past paper, since almost nobody does

Past papers are the most available and least well used resource in the Diploma. The typical pattern is that a student attempts one, checks the answers, notes that they got some wrong, and moves on. That extracts perhaps a tenth of the value. A paper used properly produces a diagnosis that redirects the next month of work, and the process takes about twice as long as sitting the paper.

Sit it under real conditions first: full time, no notes, no pausing, no looking anything up. A paper attempted at leisure tests knowledge; a paper attempted under time tests the thing the exam tests. Then mark it against the official mark scheme rather than against a general sense of whether the answer was right, because the mark scheme is where the marks actually are and it frequently awards credit a student did not know they had earned, and withholds credit they assumed was theirs.

Then audit. For every lost mark, assign one of four causes: the content was not known, the method was not shown, the question was misread, or the time ran out. Count the four. In most scripts the first is not the largest, which is uncomfortable because it is the one tuition is usually bought to address. The other three are faster to fix and the repairs are specific rather than general.

Finally, keep the script. A single marked and audited paper is worth more to a tutor in the first session than any amount of description of how the student is getting on, and a sequence of them across a year shows whether the plan is working. Families in this district who bring one marked script to a trial lesson get a materially better diagnosis than those who bring a report card.

06

Higher Level and Standard Level are not the same job

Three of the six Diploma subjects are usually taken at Higher Level and three at Standard Level, and the difference is not simply volume. Higher Level carries additional content, an additional written component in several subjects, and - most importantly for planning - a cumulative structure in the sciences and mathematics where later topics assume fluency with earlier handling. A student who got through the first year on intuition meets the consequence in the second.

That changes what the weekly hour is for. A Standard Level student is generally well served by an hour tracking the school's current topic. A Higher Level student in a cumulative subject needs part of most sessions spent keeping earlier material alive, which students resist because it feels like going backwards. Skipping it is why Higher Level grades sometimes fall in the second year despite steady work.

The level mix also determines where a limited budget should go. A Higher Level subject that the student intends to use for university entry, with a cumulative structure and an internally assessed component, is worth more support than a Standard Level subject that is already stable. Spreading support thinly across all six is the most common way to spend a Diploma tuition budget without changing a single grade.

Confirm levels and components from your school's subject outlines. The table below compares the two levels on the dimensions that affect how an hour should be spent, not on content lists.

07

What a specialist costs in this market, cheapest option first

Start at the bottom of the market, because that is where most families start and it is worth understanding what the money buys. Tutopiya advertises from AED 33 to 52 an hour and EdFlik from AED 45 to 65. At that level the tutor is typically a university student, and for consolidating a Standard Level subject the student already broadly understands, that can be a reasonable purchase. What it does not buy is somebody who knows a specific Higher Level subject's criteria band by band.

The next step up is the qualified subject tutor working online, which Bestimate's Tutoring Cost Dubai 2026 table, read in October 2026, puts at AED 150 to 300 an hour, and Unitors publishes IB tuition from AED 200. Above that sits specialist IB, IGCSE and A Level provision at AED 200 to 450 or more, with TutorChase publishing AED 270. In-home one-to-one including travel is quoted at AED 180 to 500. At the top, BartyED publishes AED 650. Each of those figures belongs to the provider named, and none is an IB Gram price.

The question is not which band is best but which band the specific job needs. A component repair block on the History source paper needs a specialist and is short - three to five sessions - so the hourly rate matters less than the match. A year of consolidation in a stable Standard Level subject needs competence rather than specialism and should not be bought at the specialist rate. Buying the specialist band for everything is how a Diploma budget disappears without a grade moving.

Monthly figures make this easier to see. One Dubai provider publishes AED 799 a month for eight online sessions, near AED 100 an hour. In-home monthly packages are advertised at AED 1,599 to AED 1,799 for four two-hour visits, near AED 200 to 225 for the same eight hours. IB Gram does not offer home visits in the UAE; in-home tutoring is a service we offer only in India, and sessions for Al Mankhool students run one-to-one over live video.

08

Regulators, permits and the mandatory UAE subjects

Dubai's private schools are overseen by KHDA, which is responsible for enhancing and overseeing the quality of private education in the emirate and publishes inspection reports on a six-band scale from Outstanding to Very Weak. Abu Dhabi and Al Ain fall to ADEK, which supervises the licensing and accreditation of private schools there. Sharjah is regulated by the Sharjah Private Education Authority, Ras Al Khaimah by its Department of Knowledge, and Ajman, Umm Al Quwain and Fujairah by the federal Ministry of Education. Sharjah's and Ras Al Khaimah's authorities also approve tuition fees, curricula, programmes, courses, activities and assessment methods.

On the tutor side there is a check a parent can make for themselves. The MoHRE private tuition work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023 and is granted free of charge for two years, covering registered school teachers, government and private-sector employees, unemployed residents, university students and school students aged 15 to 18. MoHRE's own service is Issuance of a New Work Permit - Private Tutor Licensing, applied for through the smart app, website and e-services system with a two-working-day completion time. Operating without a permit carries fines and penalties under the applicable laws; no fine schedule is published, so no amount should be quoted to you.

A separate instrument governs tutoring businesses with premises: a KHDA Educational Services Permit for a training institute, with initial approval first and renewal requested at least thirty days before expiry. IB Gram holds no such permit, no regulator accreditation and no UAE office, and does not describe itself as approved by KHDA, ADEK, SPEA, the Ministry of Education, the IB, Cambridge or Pearson. One further rule: ADEK's professional-ethics rules bar Abu Dhabi private and charter school staff from paid private tutoring of students at their own school, and the MoHRE permit's code of conduct also bars serving students affiliated with the tutor's own school.

Finally, the mandatory block, which affects every Diploma timetable in Dubai. Arabic, Islamic Education and Social or Moral Studies are required in all private schools regardless of the licensed curriculum, with KHDA's requirements due from the start of the 2025-26 academic year. Instructional time is calculated on a forty-minute lesson unit and KHDA advises at least twenty-five minutes for any mandatory-subject lesson. Separate classes for Arabs and non-Arabs are required for Arabic as a first language, Islamic Education and Social Studies, and combined classes are strictly prohibited.

Where we tutor

Where our Al Mankhool students come from

This part of Dubai is dense and the distances are short, which is exactly why subject availability matters more here than travel. The notes below are about what each neighbourhood's school mix means for finding a specialist rather than about the drive.

Al Mankhool

Apartment blocks and a mixed school intake, with families whose children are spread across Cambridge, Pearson and IB provision. A household here can need a 0580 specialist and a Diploma Chemistry Higher Level specialist in the same week, and no single local tutor covers both.

Bur Dubai and Al Fahidi

The historic core, with long-established schools running mainly to sixteen. Diploma students from here have usually moved campus, which means their subject combination is set by a school their parents did not attend an open day at.

Karama

Dense and close, with the cheapest word-of-mouth tuition in the city circulating locally. That market is almost entirely generalist, which is fine for consolidation and poor for a Higher Level subject with an internally assessed component.

Al Satwa and Al Hamriya

Mixed residential, with students travelling in several directions for school. The practical effect is that neighbours rarely share a syllabus, so recommendations passed between families often point to a tutor on a different board or programme entirely.

Al Jafiliya and Za'abeel

Between Al Mankhool and the Trade Centre, with working-parent households and a push toward later sessions. For essay subjects an evening hour works well; for a Higher Level science or mathematics it is the weakest hour in the day.

Oud Metha

The neighbouring school belt, a short drive east, with several large schools running to sixteen. Families here and in Al Mankhool often compare notes, which is useful on schools and misleading on tutors, since the subject mix differs household to household.

Al Jaddaf and Dubai Healthcare City

Where the nearest IB continuum provision sits. Students at these schools have the shortest Diploma commute in the district and the best access to a mid-afternoon session, which matters most for the sciences and mathematics.

Deira and Al Garhoud

Across the creek, with Diploma and American-curriculum provision. Families in Al Mankhool with a child at a school in this direction lose their afternoon to the crossing between four and six, which pushes sessions later than planned.

Name the subject and the level

Not "IB tutoring" but Chemistry Higher Level, or History Standard Level, or Mathematics Applications and Interpretation Higher Level. That is the unit we match on, because the components and criteria differ so much between subjects that a general IB tutor is a weaker match than a narrow specialist.

  2. 02

    Send one marked script

The most recent marked paper or piece of coursework, however poor. A marked script tells a tutor in five minutes what a report comment cannot say in an hour: whether the losses are content, method, command-term misreading or timing.

  3. 03

Free trial lesson with the specialist

A full one-to-one session over live video at no charge, with the tutor matched to that subject and level. It is a teaching session, not a sales call, and the output should be a named diagnosis rather than a general impression of how things went.

  4. 04

A plan sized by the diagnosis

Sometimes a term of weekly work on a cumulative Higher Level subject. Often a three-to-five session component repair block aimed at one question type. We would rather sell the shorter thing that fixes the problem than the longer thing that postpones it.

  5. 05

Core components on the school's calendar

If the Extended Essay, Theory of Knowledge or an internal assessment is in play, we work from the school's internal deadlines rather than from the exam window, because those are the dates that actually govern the work and they are earlier than students expect.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

Matched on subject and level

The Diploma is six assessment regimes sat by one student. We match a specialist to one subject at one level rather than offering general IB tutoring, because knowing one subject's criteria band by band is what converts an hour into marks.

Command terms taught explicitly

The gap between what a student knows and what their grade says usually sits in the verb at the start of the question. We train describe, explain, discuss and evaluate directly on the student's own scripts, and the training transfers across subjects.

Short blocks where short blocks fix it

A single failing component - the History source paper, the Economics evaluation question, Biology data analysis - is usually three to five sessions, not a term. We scope from a marked script and stop when the component is reliable.

The Extended Essay and TOK taken seriously

Both carry points toward the Diploma total and both are neglected in this market. We work on research-question viability and on the criteria that actually distinguish bands, inside the school supervisor's authority rather than around it.

Assessed work stays the student's

Tutors explain criteria, test topics, model techniques on other examples and question the student's own draft. They do not write, draft, rewrite or supply any part of an internal assessment, Extended Essay or Theory of Knowledge essay, and we supply no board documents.

Nothing claimed that cannot be shown

No regulator approval, no UAE office, no grade guarantees, no IB dates we have not verified, and every dirham figure attributed to the provider that published it with the month it was read. Ask any provider claiming more to evidence it.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Al Mankhool: your questions answered

Why does matching on subject matter more than finding a tutor close to Al Mankhool?+

Because the Diploma is six separate assessment regimes rather than one curriculum. The sciences carry an investigation and reward precise mechanism; the language A subjects carry an oral and reward sustained argument; individuals and societies rewards evaluation and source handling. A tutor strong in one of those has no particular advantage in another. In a dense district like this one, plenty of tutors are nearby, and the one that matters is the one who knows your child's specific subject and level criteria band by band.

My child knows the material but the grades do not reflect it. Where is it going?+

Usually into the command term. State, describe, explain, compare, discuss and evaluate each demand a different shape of answer, and a student who writes a competent description in response to an explain command scores roughly half the available marks while feeling the exam went well. Take a marked script, find every question scored below half, and read the verb. If the same verb recurs, that is the next three sessions, and it moves more marks per hour than topic work. It also transfers to other subjects.

How should we actually use a past paper at home?+

Sit it under real conditions - full time, no notes, no pausing - because a paper attempted at leisure tests knowledge rather than what the exam tests. Then mark it against the official mark scheme, not against a general sense of correctness. Then audit every lost mark into one of four causes: content not known, method not shown, question misread, time ran out, and count them. In most scripts the content category is not the largest, which redirects the plan. Finally keep the script; it is the most useful document a tutor can see.

Is one tutor across two Diploma subjects a sensible saving?+

Rarely, and this is one of the few places where buying twice is cheaper in outcome. The criteria, components and mark-scheme habits of two subjects in different groups have almost nothing in common, so a single tutor covering both is a generalist in each. Two specialists running back-to-back hours cost more per week and produce more per hour. Because sessions are delivered online rather than by somebody driving between appointments, arranging two consecutive hours is straightforward rather than a logistical problem.

Which components are worth paying a specialist for, and which are not?+

Pay specialist rates where the subject is cumulative, taken at Higher Level, carries an internally assessed component, and is named by the university route your child is actually pursuing. Do not pay specialist rates for consolidating a Standard Level subject that is already stable - competent, cheaper support handles that. The most common way a Diploma budget disappears without a grade moving is buying the specialist band thinly across all six subjects rather than concentrating it on the two that matter.

What can a tutor legitimately do with an internal assessment?+

Explain what each criterion rewards and in which band. Test whether a chosen topic, research question or prompt can sustain the work required. Model a technique on a completely different example. Read the student's own draft and question reasoning that does not hold. Point out where a section fails to address the criterion it is meant to. What a tutor may not do is write, draft, rewrite, edit to completion or supply any part of it. IB Gram tutors do not produce assessed work, and the malpractice finding would land on your child.

How do we stop the Extended Essay going wrong?+

Get the research question right, because that is where the grade is decided and it costs nothing to fix at the start. Too broad produces a summary rather than an argument; too narrow runs out of material halfway; the wrong subject cannot be assessed against that subject's criteria. All three are cheap to correct before anything is written and expensive afterwards, once the student is attached to a draft. Ask the school for the supervisor's name and the internal deadlines at the start of the year rather than in the term they fall.

Can anybody actually teach Theory of Knowledge, or is it unteachable?+

It is teachable and it is rarely taught, which is why marks are available there. Students treat it as an essay about opinions and write confidently without the discipline the criteria ask for: working with knowledge claims, examining how different areas of knowledge justify what they assert, and using examples that do genuine argumentative work rather than illustrating a point already made. Those are specific, trainable moves. The school appoints the supervisor and sets the deadlines, and a tutor's role sits inside that authority rather than replacing it.

My child's Higher Level grades fell in the second year despite steady work. Why?+

Most often because the subject is cumulative and the first year was got through on intuition rather than on secure method. In the sciences and mathematics, later topics assume fluency with the handling of earlier ones, so a student who never consolidated the early material meets the consequence twelve months later rather than immediately. The fix is unpopular: part of each session spent revisiting earlier handling, which feels like going backwards. An audit at the end of year one against what year two assumes prevents it entirely.

We are moving from IGCSE into the Diploma. What is the real gap?+

The assessment model more than the content. An IGCSE student arrives comfortable with written papers and unfamiliar with internally assessed work, extended independent research and criteria-based marking. A student arriving from MYP has the opposite profile: at ease with criteria and process, less drilled on timed written papers. Identify which of the two your child is, because it determines what the first term needs. A short bridging block in the summer beforehand, scoped to the actual subjects chosen, is the cheapest intervention in the two years.

What does IB tutoring cost around Al Mankhool and Bur Dubai?+

Published Dubai rates start at AED 33 to 65 an hour - Tutopiya from AED 33 to 52, EdFlik from AED 45 to 65 - which typically buys a university student rather than a subject specialist. Qualified online tuition runs AED 150 to 300 on Bestimate's Dubai rate table, with Unitors publishing IB from AED 200. Specialist IB provision is AED 200 to 450 or more, TutorChase publishing AED 270, and BartyED publishes AED 650 at the premium end. In-home including travel is quoted at AED 180 to 500. All read October 2026, all theirs rather than ours.

Does IB Gram send a tutor to an Al Mankhool apartment?+

No. IB Gram does not offer home visits anywhere in the UAE; in-home tutoring is a service we offer only in India. Sessions for Al Mankhool students run one-to-one over live video, timed to Gulf Standard Time. For Diploma work that is a genuine advantage rather than a compromise: the pool becomes every specialist on your child's exact subject and level rather than the few qualified people prepared to drive into this district at a fixed hour, and marked scripts and diagrams sit on a shared screen both people can annotate.

How do we verify that a private tutor is permitted to work in the UAE?+

Ask, and know what a correct answer looks like. The MoHRE private tuition work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, is granted free of charge for two years, and covers registered school teachers, government and private-sector employees, unemployed residents, university students and school students aged 15 to 18. Because it costs the tutor nothing, no part of a quoted rate is a permit fee. Working without one carries fines and penalties under the applicable laws, and since no fine schedule is published, nobody should be quoting you an amount.

Should we ask a teacher at my child's own school for private lessons?+

Better not to. ADEK's professional-ethics rules for Abu Dhabi private and charter school staff prohibit paid private tutoring of students enrolled at their own school, and the MoHRE permit's code of conduct also bars serving students affiliated with the tutor's own school. Treat the detail as press-reported and check the current policy document before relying on exact wording, but the principle is sound and the conflict of interest is real. A specialist with no stake in the school's own results is a cleaner arrangement for everybody involved.

Can you confirm the session and results dates so we can plan the year?+

Because we have not been able to verify them from the IB itself. The IB's own site blocks automated checking, so no session or results date in this project has been confirmed at source, and a date a family plans a year around should not rest on a secondary guess. Take yours from your school's IB coordinator or from ibo.org. What we can plan from are the school-set milestones that actually govern the work: internal assessment deadlines, the Extended Essay deadline, and the mock window.

What happens if no specialist in our subject and level is free?+

We say so instead of filling the hour with a general IB tutor. Common combinations usually match quickly; narrower ones - a less-taught language, a specific arts route, some Higher Level options - take longer, and the honest choices are to wait for the right person, to start with a related specialist on a clearly stated interim basis, or not to book. Because delivery is online, the pool is every specialist available on that subject and level rather than only those who would travel into Al Mankhool.

Name the subject, bring a script, take the trial

Three things turn a search for a nearby tutor into a plan that works. Name the subject and the level rather than the curriculum, because that is the unit the Diploma assesses and the unit a specialist occupies. Bring one marked script, however poor it looks, because it shows in minutes whether the marks are going to content, method, command terms or the clock. Then take a free trial lesson with the specialist matched to that subject and let the diagnosis decide whether you need a term of weekly work or a three-session repair block. Sessions run one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time.
