IB Home Tutor in Al Mankhool

Most families looking for an IB home tutor in Al Mankhool are looking at a calendar, not a rate card. A term has eight or nine usable weeks in it, the May session is fixed, and the internal deadlines your child's school sets land earlier than anyone expects. This page counts the Diploma year backwards from the session, says what a term can honestly achieve, and explains how IB Gram teaches one-to-one over live video to Al Mankhool.

IB & IGCSE in Al Mankhool

The calendar is the thing that decides what tutoring can do

Parents in Al Mankhool rarely search for a tutor in September. They search in late October when the first real assessment comes back, in January when the mock results land, or in March when the May session has stopped being abstract. Each of those moments gives a tutor a different amount of room, and the honest conversation starts with how much room is left rather than with an hourly rate. A plan that ignores the calendar is a plan that spends a term teaching the wrong half of the course.

Count what is actually available. A Dubai term runs roughly eleven or twelve weeks, of which eight or nine are usable for tuition once the first settling week, the assessment week and the week before a break are removed. At one session a week that is eight or nine hours. Eight hours is enough to rebuild one topic properly, or to fix answer structure across a paper, or to get an internal assessment from a bad research question to a defensible one. It is not enough to cover a year of content, and any tutor who says otherwise is selling hours.

The second thing the calendar decides is which deadlines matter. The May session is the public one, but it is not the one that bites first. Your child's school sets internal deadlines for internal assessments, the extended essay and the theory of knowledge essay, and those arrive months earlier than families expect. School mock weeks sit in between. A tutoring plan written backwards from the school's own calendar beats one written forwards from today, every time, and the school calendar is free to obtain.

On the phrase in the search: IB Gram does not send tutors to homes in the UAE. Home visits are a service offered only in India, and lessons for Al Mankhool families are delivered one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time. For a calendar-driven plan this is an advantage rather than a compromise. A session that depends on somebody driving through Bur Dubai at 5pm is a session that is occasionally late and sometimes cancelled, and an eight-week block cannot absorb two lost weeks. A video slot starts when it says it starts.

What follows is the working. It sets out what a term can achieve week by week, counts the Diploma year backwards from the session, explains how Dubai term dates and Ramadan change when revision actually happens, answers the starting-late question honestly, prices the Al Mankhool market in AED with attribution, states what any private tutor in Dubai must hold under MoHRE rules, and draws the academic-honesty line that matters most when a deadline is close. Cambridge and Pearson dates carry their sources. IB dates do not appear, because ibo.org blocks automated checking and no IB date in this project has been confirmed from the IB itself.

IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Each IB stage has its own calendar pressure, and the useful tutoring block is different in each. These are the stages, described by what their deadlines do rather than by what their brochures say.

PYPAges 3-12 · FS1 to Year 6

Primary Years Programme

No public examinations and no fixed external deadlines, which means the calendar pressure is entirely internal to the school. Units run for several weeks and conclude with a presentation or a reflection. The useful tutoring block here is short and skill-based: reading fluency, written structure, number facts. There is nothing to revise for and nothing to cram.

Al Mankhool families with primary-age children are usually within ten minutes of school, so the practical question is homework routine rather than exam timing. A four-session block on written structure in Year 5 is worth more than a year of weekly support in Year 6, and costs a fraction of it at the AED 150 to 300 qualified online band.

MYPAges 11-16 · Years 7-11

Middle Years Programme

Assessed continuously against four criteria per subject, each marked out of eight, with the Personal Project arriving in MYP5. The calendar pressure is a series of unit deadlines rather than one exam, which means a tutoring block should be timed to the start of a unit rather than to the week after a disappointing mark.

MYP provision reachable from Al Mankhool sits mainly in Al Jaddaf and across the Creek. Ask the school whether it enters MYP5 students for the IB's on-screen examinations and ePortfolios, because that single answer changes whether the final year rewards timed practice or sustained drafting. It is a school-level decision and rarely explained in a prospectus.

DPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

Diploma Programme

Two years with three distinct calendar phases: a content phase in DP1, a coursework phase spanning DP1 term three to DP2 term one, and an examination phase in the final two terms. Families who buy tuition in the wrong phase pay full price for the wrong work. Internal assessments, the extended essay and the theory of knowledge essay all sit in the middle phase.

UAE schools sit the May session. No IB session, upload or results date appears on this page: ibo.org returns an error to automated checking, so no IB date in this project has been confirmed from the IB. Confirm every one with your child's IB coordinator or on ibo.org before planning around it, and treat any page that restates one, including this one, as a pointer rather than a source.

CPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

Career-related Programme

DP courses paired with a career-related study and a reflective project. The DP components carry the same deadlines as a full Diploma, so the calendar work is identical, while the surrounding load is lighter and usually means fewer total hours are needed.

CP provision in Dubai is thin and Al Mankhool families generally choose between the full Diploma and a British post-16 route. If the CP is on the table, ask the school which DP subjects it actually timetables rather than which it lists, because a course in a brochure is not always a course running in September.

Subject coverage

IB subjects we tutor

Subjects differ in how much a short block can move, and that is a calendar fact rather than a difficulty one. These are the Diploma subjects we teach, each with what eight weeks can realistically achieve in it.

Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches

HL and SL

Eight weeks moves technique, not content. Algebraic fluency, calculus method and timed paper discipline respond quickly. A full topic rebuild, such as all of calculus from scratch, does not fit in a term and should not be promised.

Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation

HL and SL

The statistics content responds faster than the pure content, because much of it is procedure. A block before mocks is usually best spent on the statistical tests and on the exploration rather than on re-teaching functions.

Physics

HL and SL

Rearrangement and unit discipline can be fixed in a handful of sessions and pay across every paper. Conceptual rebuilds in fields and in quantum content take longer and belong in DP1, not in the final term.

Chemistry

HL and SL

Energetics sign conventions and organic mechanism sequences are the two blocks that fit a term. Both are practice-heavy rather than explanation-heavy, so eight sessions with homework between them moves marks measurably.

Biology

HL and SL

Experimental design and extended-response structure are the term-sized jobs. Content recall is large and is better handled by the student against the school's own material, which is why a tutor spending eight weeks on recall is poor value here.

Economics

HL and SL

Diagram accuracy and evaluation structure are the quick wins, and both are technique. The commentary portfolio is a coursework-phase job and should be timetabled, not left to collide with revision.

Business Management

HL and SL

Case-study technique and the application of tools to unseen material respond fast. A block aimed at the command terms, distinguishing analyse from evaluate in practice, often lifts marks more than content coverage does.

English A: Language and Literature

HL and SL

Timed writing is the term-sized target. Students who draft well and write slowly lose marks that look like analysis problems and are pace problems, and pace responds to eight weeks of timed practice with feedback.

Psychology

HL and SL

Study recall and the structure of an evaluation paragraph are the two things worth a block. Precision about method and ethics in named studies is where marks are won, and it is learnable material rather than insight.

Theory of Knowledge

Core

Essay and exhibition, both on school-set internal deadlines that arrive earlier than families expect. Support is process coaching and feedback on the student's own drafting; no tutor may write or complete any part of it.

IGCSE coverage

IGCSE subjects we tutor

Many Al Mankhool households have an IGCSE sibling on a published timetable while the Diploma student works to internal deadlines. These are the IGCSE courses we cover, with the dated series that applies to them.

Mathematics (Pearson 4MA1)

Foundation and Higher

Sat in Pearson's May/June and November series. The November 2026 final timetable runs from late October to 19 November 2026, which makes the preceding eight weeks the planning unit for a resit candidate.

Chemistry (Cambridge 0620)

Core and Extended

Cambridge runs its IGCSE exams in a June series and a November series for UAE candidates. The mole concept and electrolysis are the two blocks that fit an eight-week window usefully.

Physics (Cambridge 0625)

Core and Extended

Electricity and waves dominate lost marks and respond well to a short block, because most of the loss is unit handling rather than concept. Confirm the school's zone timetable before planning the final fortnight.

Biology (Cambridge 0610)

Core and Extended

Answer length against the mark allocation is the term-sized fix. The content reads easily, so a block spent on recall is usually a block spent on what the student already has.

English Language (Pearson 4EA1)

Single tier

Timed writing and the comprehension technique are both eight-week jobs. Results timing matters for post-16 applications: Pearson's June 2026 results reached students on 20 August 2026.

Co-ordinated Sciences (Cambridge 0654)

Double Award

Papers move between the three sciences without warning, so a block aimed at switching speed and at shared method vocabulary is better value than one aimed at a single science.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three ways to work, all built around a date. Every format is delivered one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time, and every one ends when it says it will.

The eight-week block

One session a week for the usable length of a term, aimed at one objective agreed in advance and reviewed at the end. This is the default for a Diploma student who is behind in one subject, and it is deliberately short so that a family can judge it rather than renew it out of habit.

  • Objective written down before session one
  • Homework between every session, checked at the start of the next
  • Week four review against the stated objective
  • Ends on a named date, renewed only on evidence

Coursework-phase scheduling

Sessions timed to the school's internal deadlines for internal assessments, the extended essay and the theory of knowledge essay rather than to a weekly rhythm. Usually two or three sessions around each deadline, front-loaded towards the question and the method where the work actually gets decided.

  • Dates taken from the school's own deadline list
  • Research question challenged before any data exists
  • Written feedback on the student's own drafts only
  • Nothing written, drafted or supplied by the tutor

Final-run intensive

Two or three sessions a week across the last four to eight weeks before a session, built around full papers sat under timed conditions. The hourly rate does not change; the total does, which is why this is a planned spend with a fixed end rather than an extension of a standing arrangement.

  • One full timed paper a week, marked together
  • An error log carried forward, not restarted weekly
  • Topic choice driven by the error log, not the syllabus order
  • Confirmed against the school's and the board's own dates

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Al Mankhool

01

What a home tutor means in Al Mankhool, and what we actually deliver

The phrase home tutor in Dubai usually means one of two things, and they have different prices. The first is an independent tutor who travels to the apartment, advertised in this market at AED 180 to 350 an hour in Bestimate's 2026 rate table, with independent home tutors quoting up to AED 500. The second is a tutor who teaches from their own desk to the child's, live over video, quoted at AED 150 to 300 an hour for an equivalently qualified person. The difference is largely a car.

IB Gram delivers the second. IB Gram does not sell home visits in the UAE; home visits are a service we offer only in India, and every UAE lesson is one-to-one over live video. That is stated plainly because the alternative, implying a tutor will arrive at an Al Mankhool address, would be a promise we do not keep. What the online format buys for a family on a deadline is the reliability the calendar needs, plus a tutor pool that is not limited to people who can cross Bur Dubai at 5pm.

There is a genuine case for in-home support, and it is worth naming. A young child who cannot stay at a desk without an adult beside them benefits from physical presence in a way video cannot replicate, and families with that need should buy it. For a Diploma student working to internal deadlines, the need is a specialist in one named subject at a fixed hour every week for eight weeks. That is the job the online format does better, and it does it at the lower of the two published bands.

What the next eight weeks can honestly achieve

Eight sessions is the realistic size of a Dubai term once the settling week, the assessment week and the week before a break are taken out. That is eight hours of teaching plus whatever homework the student actually does, and it is enough for exactly one well-chosen objective. Families who ask for three objectives get a third of each, which is the commonest reason a term of tuition produces no visible change.

Some objectives fit and some do not. Rebuilding answer structure across a paper fits. Fixing unit handling and rearrangement in Physics fits. Getting an internal assessment from a vague research question to a defensible one with a sound method fits, comfortably. Teaching a year of Chemistry content does not fit, and nor does raising every grade on a report at once. The skill in buying tuition is choosing the objective that fits and that also happens to be worth the most marks.

The week-by-week shape below is what a sound eight-week block looks like from the inside. Notice that week one contains no teaching and week four contains a decision. Both are deliberate. A block that never diagnoses is a block aimed by guesswork, and a block with no mid-point review runs to its end whether or not it is working, which is how a term becomes a year. Week eight is also where the next block gets decided, or decided against: a block that has met its objective should end rather than roll on out of habit, and that conversation is far easier to have when the objective was written down in week one and the mid-point note says whether it moved.

03

The Diploma year counted backwards

UAE schools sit the May session, and the right way to plan is from the session towards today rather than the reverse. No IB date appears here. The IB's own site returns an error to automated checking, so no IB session, upload or results date in this project has been confirmed from the IB itself, and a date a family acts on must come from the school's IB coordinator or from ibo.org directly. What can be planned without a date is the order and the size of each phase.

Working backwards from the session: the final four to eight weeks are timed full papers and error-log work, at the highest intensity and therefore the highest cost. The term before that is answer structure and the remaining content gaps. Before that sits the coursework phase, where internal assessments, the extended essay and the theory of knowledge essay are decided, and it is the phase families most often underfund because none of it looks like revision. DP1 is for content and for the method skills the coursework phase will need.

For an IGCSE sibling the dates exist and are sourced, which makes the household calendar easier to build. Cambridge International runs IGCSE, O Level and International A Level exams in a June series and a November series, with Checkpoint tests in March, May and October; the February and March series is offered to India only and is not available to UAE candidates. Pearson Edexcel International GCSE runs in May/June and November, with the November 2026 final timetable running from late October to 19 November 2026. Pearson's June 2026 results reached centres on 19 August 2026 and students on 20 August 2026, and November 2025 results reached students on 22 January 2026. Cambridge allocates every centre to one of six administrative zones and warns it is essential to use the correct version of the timetable for your zone, since it cannot accept responsibility for candidates who miss an exam after using the wrong one.

Term dates, Ramadan and when revision actually happens

  • Get the term calendar and the mock weeks from the school in writing
  • Do not start an eight-week block in the week before a long break
  • Move sessions to post-Iftar timings during Ramadan
  • Treat the fortnight around Eid as unavailable, not as optional
  • Allow for mandatory Arabic and Islamic Education lessons in the weekly load

The Dubai academic calendar shapes a tutoring plan more than most families allow for. Terms are punctuated by breaks that fall differently from the exam calendar, and the weeks immediately after a long break are among the least productive of the year. A block that starts the week before a holiday loses its momentum at exactly the point where homework should be compounding, which is an avoidable waste of the first two sessions.

Ramadan shifts the day. School hours shorten, afternoons are quieter and evenings reorganise around Iftar, and a 5pm session that worked in January is often the wrong slot entirely. The practical answer is to move sessions to post-Iftar timings, which we do on request, and to accept that the fortnight either side of Eid is not a revision window. Planning around it rather than through it is the difference between a block that finishes and a block that fades.

There is a second calendar pressure specific to Dubai private schools. Every school here teaches Arabic, Islamic Education and Social or Moral Studies regardless of its licensed curriculum, and KHDA's guidance required these to be implemented by the start of the 2025-26 academic year, with April 2026 for schools whose year begins in April. Instructional time is calculated on a forty-minute lesson unit, and KHDA advises no mandatory-subject lesson runs shorter than twenty-five minutes. Those lessons occupy real timetable space, which is one reason a Diploma student's homework evenings are tighter than a parent expects.

05

Starting late: the honest answer to the six-week question

Families ask whether six weeks before an exam is too late, and the answer is that it depends entirely on what the six weeks are spent on. Six weeks cannot deliver a year of content. Six weeks can reliably move three things: question selection and timing, the structure of extended answers, and the specific errors a student makes repeatedly. In most subjects those three together are worth more marks than any content block of the same length, because they apply to every question on the paper rather than to one topic.

So the plan changes shape when time is short. There is no diagnostic week in the ordinary sense; the diagnostic is a full past paper sat cold in the first session, marked without mercy, and turned into an error log. Then every subsequent session is a timed section plus the two errors that appeared most often. Content is taught only where the error log demands it, which is a different and much narrower selection than the syllabus would suggest.

What a late start cannot rescue is coursework. An internal assessment with a weak research question six weeks before submission is in trouble, because the question determines the ceiling and changing it means collecting data again. This is the strongest argument for the coursework-phase scheduling described above: the work is cheapest, fastest and most effective when the question is challenged before anything else happens. A family that spends two sessions in DP1 term three on a research question avoids six in DP2 on the consequences.

06

What a home tutor costs in this market, and what the premium buys

The travel premium in Bur Dubai is unusually easy to see because both formats are advertised monthly. A Dubai provider publishes AED 799 a month for eight online sessions, close to AED 100 a session. In-home packages are advertised at AED 1,599 to 1,799 a month for four two-hour sessions, which is AED 200 to 225 an hour. The teaching in both can be identical. The second figure includes a car crossing Al Mankhool twice a week, and a scheduling risk the first does not carry.

The hourly bands tell the same story. Budget online tutoring, usually delivered by university students, is advertised from AED 33 to 52 by Tutopiya and AED 45 to 65 by EdFlik. A qualified subject tutor working online is quoted at AED 150 to 300, with Unitors publishing from AED 150 for IGCSE and AED 200 for IB. In-home one-to-one is AED 180 to 350 in Bestimate's 2026 table, with independents to AED 500. Specialist IB and IGCSE support is AED 200 to 450 and above, with TutorChase publishing AED 270, and premium named tutors reach AED 650, as BartyED publishes.

For a family on a calendar, the premium buys one thing worth having and one thing that costs them. It buys physical presence, which matters for young children. It costs reliability, because an eight-week block cannot absorb two sessions lost to traffic, and it narrows the specialist pool to people who live nearby. None of these are IB Gram prices; ours follow a free trial lesson. For wider context, KHDA confirmed on 22 May 2026 that private-school fees in Dubai do not rise for 2026-27, so the tutoring line is the one a family can still size deliberately.

What any private tutor in Dubai must hold

Private tutoring in the UAE is regulated by permit, and a family about to commit to eight weeks should check it in week one rather than week six. The MoHRE private tutor work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023 Regarding the Introduction of Private Tuition Work Permits. It is granted free of charge for two years. Eligible applicants include teachers registered in government or private schools, employees in the government and private sectors, unemployed individuals, school students aged 15 to 18, and university students.

MoHRE's own service page is titled Issuance of a New Work Permit - Private Tutor Licensing, lists no fees, states a two-working-day completion time, and is applied for through the MoHRE smart app, the website and the e-services system. Because the permit is free, a tutor who cites a permit cost as a reason for a higher rate has it wrong. Individuals offering private tutoring without a permit from MoHRE are subject to fines and penalties outlined in the applicable laws; no fine schedule is published, so no amount should be quoted to you either.

One further rule matters for families in Dubai who are tempted by the obvious shortcut. In Abu Dhabi, ADEK's professional-ethics rules for private and charter school staff prohibit teachers from providing paid private tutoring to students enrolled at their own school, and the MoHRE permit carries a code of conduct that also bars serving students affiliated with the tutor's own school. Treat that as press-reported and verify it against the current ADEK policy document before relying on the exact wording. The sound position either way is not to arrange your child's own class teacher as a paid private tutor. On regulators generally: KHDA oversees private education in Dubai, ADEK supervises licensing and accreditation in Abu Dhabi and Al Ain, SPEA regulates Sharjah, the Department of Knowledge regulates Ras Al Khaimah, and the Ministry of Education supervises Ajman, Umm Al Quwain and Fujairah. IB Gram is not approved, accredited or licensed by any of them and claims nothing of the kind.

08

Academic honesty when a deadline is close

Pressure is where this line gets crossed, and the crossing is almost always the parent's decision rather than the student's. An internal assessment is due on Sunday, the draft is thin, somebody offers to tidy it up, and a family that would never cheat on principle agrees to it on a Thursday evening. The IB does not read it that way. The student signs a declaration that the work is their own, and the consequence falls on the student's record and can reach the whole Diploma.

So the boundary is worth stating before the deadline rather than during it. A tutor may challenge a research question, interrogate a method, teach uncertainty handling or source evaluation, explain what a criterion is asking for, and give written feedback on a draft the student has written. A tutor may not write, draft, rewrite, complete or supply any part of an internal assessment, extended essay, theory of knowledge essay or any other assessed work. IB Gram does not do it in any subject, at any level, at any point in the calendar.

This is also a market warning. One operator found during research for this project sells completed internal assessments outright at AED 3,750. That is not a premium tutoring tier; it is a malpractice trigger with a price on it. The calendar answer is the better one: schedule the coursework phase deliberately, challenge the question early, and the Thursday-evening temptation never arrives. Families who front-load the question work almost never find themselves in the position where somebody offers to finish it for them.

Where we tutor

Al Mankhool and the neighbourhoods either side of it

What changes between these neighbourhoods is the school run, and the school run decides what time a weekly session can realistically hold for eight weeks running. That reliability is the whole point of a calendar-led plan.

Al Mankhool

Mid-rise apartments between Al Mankhool Road and Khalid Bin Al Waleed Road, with Al Fahidi and ADCB on the Green Line and BurJuman at the interchange. School runs mostly stay inside Bur Dubai, so a 4.30pm session holds reliably through a term.

Bur Dubai

The Creek-side core immediately north. Several long-established schools sit within minutes, which means short runs and few scheduling surprises, but also a tutoring pool spread thinly across three or four different curricula.

Karama

East across Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Road, compact and apartment-dense. The shortest runs in the belt and the tightest parking, which is why an evening slot that does not depend on anybody finding a space is worth more here than the rate difference suggests.

Oud Metha

South along Oud Metha Road, with Red Line stations and the Healthcare City approach. Families here often cross to Al Jaddaf or Festival City for IB provision, which pushes a reliable session start towards 5pm.

Al Jaddaf

The nearest full IB continuum provision, a few minutes down Oud Metha Road. The shortest IB school run available to this cluster, and the only part of it where a 4pm session is genuinely realistic on a weekday.

Al Garhoud

Over the Creek beside the airport, and the approach to Festival City schooling. Al Garhoud Bridge is the variable that breaks weekly slots: the same pickup lands home anywhere between 3.45pm and 4.30pm depending on the day.

Al Qusais

Out along the Green Line towards Sharjah. The longest inbound commute in this cluster, so a session before 5.30pm is unreliable and a block built on one will lose weeks it cannot afford.

Al Mamzar

Coastal, near the Sharjah border, with two established schools minutes away. Cohorts are small, which means a named Diploma subject specialist is scarce locally and the eight-week block is best protected by booking online.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Send the deadline, not just the subject

A message that says Chemistry HL, school internal IA deadline in February, mock week in January is actionable immediately. A message that says needs a tutor requires three exchanges before anything useful can be planned. The school calendar and the internal deadline list are the two documents to have in front of you.

  2. 02

Free trial lesson as a cold diagnostic

The tutor sets work across the whole paper rather than the current topic, or a full past paper if time is short, and reports what the errors actually are. If the match is wrong you say so and nothing is owed. One trial lesson per student, and it is where the objective for the block comes from.

  3. 03

An objective and an end date, in writing

You receive the objective, the number of sessions, and the date the block ends. One objective, not three. A block without a stated objective cannot be judged, and a block without an end date renews itself by default, which is how eight weeks becomes two years.

  4. 04

A weekly slot that survives a term

Lessons run live over video on Gulf Standard Time at a time chosen around the Bur Dubai school run, usually 4.30pm to 7pm. Nobody drives, so the slot holds for eight consecutive weeks. Ramadan sessions move to post-Iftar timings on request.

  5. 05

Week four review, then a real recommendation

At the midpoint we check the objective against evidence and say whether to continue, re-aim or stop. At week eight you get the assessment and a recommendation that may be to stop. A tutor who always recommends continuing is selling hours rather than reporting progress.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

Plans built from your school's calendar

Internal deadlines and mock weeks decide what a term can achieve, and they are set by the school rather than by the IB. We ask for them first and build the block backwards from them, because a plan written forwards from today usually aims at the wrong phase of the year.

One objective per block

Eight usable weeks support one well-chosen objective. Families who ask for three get a third of each, which is the most common reason a term of tuition shows no visible change on a report. Choosing the objective is the work; the sessions are the easy part.

Dates carry their source, or they are not published

Cambridge and Pearson dates on this page name their source. No IB date appears at all, because ibo.org blocks automated checking and nothing in this project has been confirmed from the IB. A wrong date a family acts on is worse than no date, and it has been published to UAE parents before.

A slot that actually holds

An eight-week block cannot absorb two sessions lost to Bur Dubai traffic. Lessons are delivered live over video, so the session starts when it says it does, which is the specific reason the online format suits a calendar-led plan better than the in-home alternative.

The honesty line stated before the deadline

A tutor challenges, teaches and gives feedback on the student's own work. IB Gram does not write, draft or complete an internal assessment, extended essay or theory of knowledge essay, in any subject. Stating that in week one is what stops the question being asked in week seven.

Honest about what we cannot cover

If no specialist in your subject is free in the window your block needs, we say so and say when one will be. Filling the slot and hoping costs a family a term, and no competitor page researched for this project discloses a coverage limit at all.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Al Mankhool: your questions answered

Can lessons take place inside our Al Mankhool apartment?+

No. IB Gram does not offer home visits anywhere in the UAE; home visits are a service we provide only in India. Every lesson for an Al Mankhool family is one-to-one and live over video, on Gulf Standard Time, at a slot chosen around the Bur Dubai school run. The reason is not only cost, although the market gap is real: Bestimate's 2026 table puts in-home one-to-one at AED 180 to 350 an hour against AED 150 to 300 online. It is that a weekly slot which depends on crossing Bur Dubai at 5pm cannot be relied on for eight consecutive weeks.

My child has exams in six weeks. Is it worth starting now?+

Yes, provided the six weeks are spent on the right things. Six weeks cannot deliver a year of content. It can reliably move question selection and timing, the structure of extended answers, and the specific errors a student repeats, and in most subjects those three are worth more marks than any single content block of the same length. The method is to sit a full paper cold in session one, mark it without mercy, build an error log, and then spend every remaining session on a timed section plus the two commonest errors. What six weeks cannot rescue is a coursework question.

How many weeks of tutoring does one Dubai term actually give us?+

Eight or nine, not eleven or twelve. Once you remove the settling week at the start, the assessment week, and the week before a break when nothing lands, a term yields eight or nine usable sessions. That is enough for one well-chosen objective with homework between sessions. It is not enough for three objectives, and families who ask for three receive a third of each. The practical step is to get the term calendar and the mock week dates from the school office in writing before deciding what the block should aim at.

When should we start thinking about the internal assessment?+

Earlier than almost anyone does, and the reason is that the research question sets the ceiling. An internal assessment with a vague or unmeasurable question cannot score well however good the later work is, and changing the question late means collecting data again. The cheapest and most effective support is therefore two sessions in the term when the question is chosen, spent challenging it hard before anything else happens. Families who do that rarely need the six sessions of rescue work that a weak question produces in the term before submission, and they avoid the pressure that leads to worse decisions.

Can you tell me the dates of the next IB exam session?+

Not reliably, and we will not publish one. The IB's own site returns an error to automated checking, so no IB session, upload or results date in this project has been confirmed from the IB itself. UAE schools sit the May session, and that much is safe to say. For the actual dates, ask your child's IB coordinator or check ibo.org directly, and treat any page restating an IB date, including this one, as a pointer rather than a source. A date a family builds a revision plan around has to come from the authority that sets it.

When do IGCSE siblings in the same household sit their exams?+

Cambridge International runs IGCSE, O Level and International A Level exams in a June series and a November series, with Primary and Lower Secondary Checkpoint tests in March, May and October. The February and March series is offered to India only and is not available to UAE candidates. Pearson Edexcel International GCSE runs in May/June and November; the November 2026 final timetable runs from late October to 19 November 2026. Pearson's June 2026 results reached students on 20 August 2026 and November 2025 results reached students on 22 January 2026. Work from the school-issued timetable.

Why does Cambridge publish several versions of the same timetable?+

Because the same paper is sat at different local times around the world. Cambridge allocates every centre to one of six administrative zones and publishes a timetable per zone. Its guidance states that it is essential to use the correct version of the timetable for your zone and that Cambridge cannot accept responsibility for candidates who miss an exam after using the wrong zone timetable. Your child's school in Al Mankhool or Bur Dubai knows its zone. If anyone in the household is revising from a timetable found online rather than the school's own, check the zone first.

How does Ramadan change a weekly tutoring slot?+

It usually moves it. School hours shorten, afternoons go quiet and evenings reorganise around Iftar, so a 5pm session that worked in January is often the wrong time entirely. We move sessions to post-Iftar timings on request. The second adjustment is to the plan rather than the clock: the fortnight either side of Eid is not a productive revision window, and a block that tries to run through it loses momentum it cannot recover. Plan around it, finish the block before it, or restart after it.

What does an IB tutor cost in Al Mankhool?+

Dubai market rates reviewed October 2026 run from AED 33 to 52 an hour at Tutopiya's budget online tier and AED 45 to 65 at EdFlik's, typically delivered by university students. A qualified subject tutor working online is quoted at AED 150 to 300, with Unitors publishing from AED 200 for IB. Specialist IB support is AED 200 to 450 and above, with TutorChase publishing AED 270, and BartyED publishes AED 650 at the premium end. In-home one-to-one is AED 180 to 350 in Bestimate's table. None of those are our prices; IB Gram sets pricing after a free trial lesson.

Is a standing weekly slot across two years a good idea?+

Rarely, and it is the most expensive arrangement in this market. A slot with no stated objective and no end date runs for two years and nobody involved has to judge whether it worked, which is precisely why it keeps running. At the AED 150 to 300 qualified band, two years at one hour a week is somewhere between AED 9,000 and AED 36,000. Three defined blocks, timed to the coursework phase and the exam run, usually cost a fraction of that and produce more movement, because each one is pointed at something specific and can be stopped.

Which schools near Al Mankhool run the IB Diploma?+

Not many inside Al Mankhool itself, which is why the school run is the scheduling problem it is. Swiss International Scientific School in Al Jaddaf runs a full IB continuum a few minutes down Oud Metha Road. Across the Creek, Deira International School and Universal American School in Dubai Festival City offer the Diploma, reached via Al Garhoud Bridge, and Hartland International School and GEMS Modern Academy sit further out. Within Al Mankhool and Bur Dubai the provision is largely British and Indian curriculum. Check the current KHDA inspection report and the school's own subject list before any transfer.

Does a private tutor in Dubai need a permit, and does it cost us anything?+

A permit is required and it costs the tutor nothing. The MoHRE private tutor work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023 and is granted free of charge for two years. Eligible applicants include registered school teachers, government and private-sector employees, unemployed residents, school students aged 15 to 18 and university students. MoHRE's service page, Issuance of a New Work Permit - Private Tutor Licensing, lists no fees and a two-working-day completion time. Individuals tutoring without a permit are subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws, and no fine schedule is published, so no amount should be quoted at you.

Can we arrange my child's own school teacher as a private tutor?+

It is not a good idea and in Abu Dhabi it is barred. ADEK's professional-ethics rules for private and charter school staff prohibit teachers from providing paid private tutoring to students enrolled at their own school, and the MoHRE permit carries a code of conduct that also bars serving students affiliated with the tutor's own school. That is press-reported, so verify the exact wording against the current ADEK policy document before treating it as settled. The sound position in any emirate is to keep the two roles separate, because a teacher who marks your child's work and is paid by you is in a conflict nobody benefits from.

What happens at the end of an eight-week block?+

You receive a timed assessment, the error log as it now stands, and a written recommendation. The recommendation may be to stop, and for many students after a well-aimed block it should be: the specific weakness has closed and the money is better spent on a different subject, or not spent at all. If the evidence says continue, the next block gets its own objective and its own end date rather than drifting on from the last one. A tutor whose recommendation is always to continue is reporting their own interest, not your child's.

Do you supply past papers, mark schemes or IB subject guides?+

No. IB, Cambridge and Pearson syllabus documents, past papers, mark schemes and grade-boundary tables are copyright material, and reproducing or distributing them is infringement. A tutor works with material the student legitimately holds through their school, cites the official source and links to it: ibo.org for the Diploma, cambridgeinternational.org for Cambridge qualifications and qualifications.pearson.com for Pearson Edexcel. The school is also the holder of the correct zone timetable and the internal deadline list, both of which matter more to a calendar-led plan than any copy circulating online.

Bring the calendar, and we will work backwards

Ask the school office for two documents: the term calendar with the mock weeks marked, and the internal deadline list for coursework. Send them with your enquiry. Take the free trial lesson and let the tutor set work across the whole paper, or a full past paper if the exam is close, and read the error log that comes back. Then agree one objective and an end date, and judge the block at week four rather than at week eight. Lessons run one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time, timed around the Bur Dubai school run, moving to post-Iftar slots during Ramadan. If nobody is free in the window your block needs, we will say so.
