IGCSE Tutor near me in Al Mankhool

A search for an IGCSE tutor near me in Al Mankhool gives you a list sorted by distance. The thing that decides whether the hours work is a four-digit number: 0580, 0620, 0625, 0510, or a Pearson code such as 4MA1 or 4CH1. Those are different papers with different mark schemes, and a tutor on the wrong one is convincing for about six weeks. This page is written from the codes out. IB Gram matches on the code and teaches one-to-one over live video.

IB & IGCSE in Al Mankhool

The four digits that decide whether the hours work

There is a number on your child's school entry statement that matters more than anything in this search result. Cambridge IGCSE Mathematics is 0580. Cambridge International Mathematics is 0607, a different course with different papers. Physics is 0625, Chemistry 0620, Biology 0610, Co-ordinated Sciences 0654, English as a Second Language 0510, English First Language 0500. Pearson Edexcel uses a different scheme entirely: Mathematics A is 4MA1, Physics 4PH1, Chemistry 4CH1. Two students living in the same Al Mankhool block can be sitting different papers in the same subject.

Almost nothing in the local tutoring market is organised around that fact. A tutor advertises IGCSE Physics, a parent books it, and the sessions proceed on whichever syllabus the tutor knows. For six weeks everything looks fine, because the physics is the physics and most of the content overlaps. Then a mock paper arrives in a question style the student has not practised, with a mark scheme that rewards something slightly different, and the gap between what was taught and what is examined becomes visible at the worst possible moment.

Codes are not the only thing a subject-led approach cares about. Each paper has its own geography of lost marks, and those are remarkably consistent across cohorts. In the sciences it is the six-mark extended response, where a student who knows everything writes a list of correct facts and scores three. In mathematics it is unwritten method, where a correct approach done mentally earns nothing after one arithmetic slip. In English it is writing about what a passage says rather than how the writer achieves an effect. In Economics and Business it is a definition where an evaluation was demanded.

None of those is a content gap, and that is the useful part. They are all trainable patterns, visible in a marked script within minutes, and fixable in a handful of sessions rather than a term. A family in Al Mankhool who brings one marked paper to a first conversation gets a far better plan than one who brings a report card, because the script shows where the marks are going and the report card only shows that they went.

It is worth adding that the code question is not pedantry invented by a tutoring company. Receiving schools and universities state their entry requirements in named qualifications, not in general subject terms, and the certificate your child eventually holds names the board and the syllabus. A parent who has never seen the entry statement is effectively unaware of what their child is being certified in, which is a strange position to be in while paying for support in it.

So the sections below work through the subjects rather than the neighbourhood. The code directory first, so you know what you are buying support for. Then the extended-response question that decides science grades. Then how practical science is examined when nobody is standing at a bench. Then the English decision, which quietly affects university and equivalency paperwork. Then a subject-by-subject map of mark-scheme traps, and finally which subjects actually reward past-paper practice and which still need content.

CAIEAges 14-16 · Years 10-11

Cambridge IGCSE

Four-digit codes, many subjects tiered Core and Extended, and a June and November series for UAE candidates. Cambridge allocates every centre to one of six administrative zones and warns that it is essential to use the correct version of the timetable for your zone, adding that it cannot accept responsibility for candidates who miss an exam after using the wrong one.

Cambridge also runs Primary and Lower Secondary Checkpoint tests in March, May and October, which is a separate thing from the IGCSE series and is sometimes confused with it in local tutoring material. For an Al Mankhool family the operative point is that the authoritative timetable comes from the school's entry statement and the board's live timetable, not from a search result.

4MA1Ages 14-16 · Years 10-11

Pearson Edexcel International GCSE

A different code scheme - 4MA1 for Mathematics A, 4PH1 Physics, 4CH1 Chemistry, 4BI1 Biology - with its own tiering and a distinct question-building style. Exams are available in May/June and November each year, and Pearson publishes provisional timetables well ahead of each series.

Dates worth knowing because they show the shape of the calendar: the November 2026 final timetable ran from late October to 19 November 2026, June 2026 results went to centres on 19 August 2026 and to students on 20 August 2026, and November 2025 results reached students on 22 January 2026. Always work from the live official timetable rather than a restated date.

O LevelAges 14-16 · Years 10-11

Cambridge O Level

Still sat in some schools in this part of Dubai, particularly where a school's history runs through a different system, and examined in the same June and November series as IGCSE. Content overlaps substantially with IGCSE but assessment structures differ, so past-paper practice must come from the correct qualification.

Families sometimes discover a child is on O Level rather than IGCSE only when a tutor brings the wrong papers. The entry statement settles it in one line. It matters for progression too, since receiving schools and universities state requirements in terms of specific qualifications rather than general equivalents.

MYPAges 11-16 · Years 7-11

IB Middle Years Programme

The alternative route to sixteen at the IB continuum schools near this district, assessed against four criteria per subject group on a 1-8 scale with no terminal papers in most schools. Support looks nothing like IGCSE past-paper work and should not be bought as though it were.

Where a household has one child on IGCSE and another on MYP - which happens often in Al Mankhool, since siblings sometimes attend different schools - the two children need genuinely different kinds of help. Buying the same weekly pattern for both wastes money on one of them.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

Below are the IGCSE subjects students around Al Mankhool most often need, each with its code and the specific mark-scheme habit that costs marks in it. These are patterns rather than content gaps, which is why they are quick to fix.

Mathematics (Cambridge 0580)

Core and Extended

The trap is unwritten method. A four-mark question typically awards two or three for a correct approach, so working mentally and writing one line forfeits them after any arithmetic slip. Across a paper this costs more than any topic weakness.

Mathematics A (Pearson 4MA1)

Foundation and Higher

Same subject, different question architecture: parts build on one another in a particular way and the paper rewards following that build. A student drilled on Cambridge papers reads the question stems slightly wrong and loses time before losing marks.

Physics (Cambridge 0625)

Core and Extended

Electricity and electromagnetism produce the biggest losses, usually on explain questions answered as descriptions. The scheme wants a mechanism - charge, field, force, consequence - in a linked chain, and a correct but unlinked set of statements scores low.

Chemistry (Cambridge 0620)

Core and Extended

Mole calculations and organic chemistry take the hours, but the recoverable marks are in the extended response, where a list of true statements about a reaction scores less than a shorter answer that connects cause to effect in order.

Biology (Cambridge 0610)

Core and Extended

The subject that punishes revision-by-reading hardest. Students feel prepared and then lose marks on data interpretation and on definition precision. Describing a process step by step, in the right order, is the single most profitable thing to practise.

Co-ordinated Sciences (Cambridge 0654)

Double award

All three sciences in a double award, which limits depth. Worth confirming before paying for three separate science tutors, and worth checking against what a post-sixteen science course at the receiving school expects.

English as a Second Language (Cambridge 0510)

Core and Extended

Counts toward the five subjects MoE equivalency recognises on the British track. Marks are won on reading-comprehension technique and on the controlled writing tasks, where following the rubric exactly matters more than vocabulary range.

English First Language (Cambridge 0500)

Single tier

Directed writing and the analysis of unseen passages. Students write about what the passage says; the scheme rewards writing about how the writer produces an effect. That shift is a technique fix of roughly six to eight sessions, not a year of reading.

Economics (Cambridge 0455)

Single tier

Definitions and diagrams get a student to the middle of the range and no further. The upper marks sit in the evaluation questions, which require a judgement with its limits stated, and students who revise content exclusively never reach them.

Business Studies (Cambridge 0450)

Single tier

Application to the specific case given in the paper separates the bands. A correct general answer about a concept scores below a shorter answer that uses the named business's actual circumstances, and that discipline is quick to teach.

Computer Science (Cambridge 0478)

Single tier

Theory plus algorithms and programming problem-solving. Students fluent in Python still lose marks by writing Python where the scheme expects the syllabus pseudocode conventions, which is a presentation habit rather than a knowledge gap.

Additional Mathematics (Cambridge 0606)

Single tier

Calculus, logarithms and matrices taken alongside 0580 Extended by students heading toward A Level or Higher Level Mathematics. Demanding in pace: it stretches a student with secure algebra and overwhelms one without it.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three ways to buy IGCSE support, separated by what each is actually for. The subject-led view usually produces a shorter purchase than a general one, because a named trap takes fewer sessions to fix than a vague weakness.

Paper-technique block

Three to five sessions aimed at one identified pattern: the six-mark extended response, unwritten method in mathematics, the alternative-to-practical paper, or directed writing. Scoped from a marked script rather than from a syllabus, and finished when the pattern is reliable rather than when the term ends.

  • Scoped from an actual marked paper on the correct code
  • One question type, practised until the structure is automatic
  • Marked against the official scheme every session
  • Ends when the pattern is fixed, not on a calendar date

Weekly subject hour

A fixed hour each week with a specialist on the exact code and tier, through the term. Appropriate where there is genuine content missing rather than a technique pattern, which in practice is most common in the sciences at Extended tier and in Additional Mathematics.

  • One subject, one code, one tutor, same hour weekly
  • Work tracking the school's own sequence, not a parallel syllabus
  • Written answers screen-shared and marked during the hour
  • Slot chosen against the school's term calendar

Pre-series paper run

A concentrated block before the June or November series built entirely around timed papers on the correct code and tier. No new teaching: full papers, honest marking, and repair of what each one exposes. Rates in this market firm up as a series approaches, so this is cheapest booked early.

  • Full papers under exam conditions on the right code
  • Marked against the official scheme, losses categorised
  • Separate timed practice for non-calculator papers where they apply
  • Scheduled around the school's own mock window

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Al Mankhool

01

The code directory, and what changes between boards

The first thing to establish is which qualification, which code and which tier. It is one line on the school's entry statement, the school will send it on request, and it determines every past paper, every mark scheme and every question style that the sessions should use. Without it, a tutoring plan is a guess dressed as a syllabus.

What actually differs between the boards is less about content than about architecture. Cambridge papers and Pearson papers ask about the same physics and the same algebra, but they build questions differently, phrase stems differently and reward slightly different things in the extended responses. A student who has practised fifty Cambridge papers reads a Pearson stem a fraction wrong, spends longer deciding what is wanted, and runs short at the end of the paper. The content was never the problem.

Tiering is the other axis. Many Cambridge subjects are tiered Core and Extended; Pearson Mathematics A is tiered Foundation and Higher. The lower tier caps the grade available, which makes it the most consequential fact in the whole plan and the one least often discussed openly at a parents' evening. Confirm it, and if there is doubt about whether the tier is right, raise it with the school while a change is still practical.

The table lists the codes most commonly sat around this district. Take yours from the entry statement; this is a reference for the conversation rather than a statement about your child.

02

The six-mark question is where science grades are decided

  • The scheme rewards linked causal points, not the quantity of true statements
  • Three sentences that connect properly outscore eight that do not
  • Explicit connective language - because, therefore, which means - earns the links
  • The skill transfers across Physics, Chemistry and Biology
  • Students must see it marked against the real scheme before they trust it
  • Ask a prospective tutor how they teach a six-mark explain question

In IGCSE science papers there is one question type that separates students who know the material from students whose grades show it: the extended response worth five or six marks. It asks for an explanation or an evaluation of a process, and it is marked by the presence of specific linked points rather than by the volume of correct information.

The typical answer from a well-taught student is a list. Every statement in it is true, several of them are relevant, and the mark comes out at about half. The reason is that the scheme awards marks for a chain - this happens, which causes this, which means this - and an unordered set of facts does not form a chain. The student is being penalised for structure, not for knowledge, and nobody has told them.

The fix is mechanical and fast. Identify the chain the question wants, write it in order, use connective language that makes the causation explicit, and stop. Three sentences that link properly outscore eight that do not. Students find this counterintuitive because it means writing less, and they need to see it marked against the real scheme two or three times before they believe it.

This is the highest-return thing to work on in Physics 0625, Chemistry 0620 and Biology 0610, and it transfers between all three. It is also almost never taught in a weekly tuition hour, because the hour defaults to content and the extended response is not content. Ask any prospective tutor how they would teach a six-mark explain question, and the answer will tell you a great deal.

03

How practical science is examined when nobody is at a bench

Parents considering online science tuition reasonably ask about practicals, and the honest answer is more reassuring than expected, because of how the boards assess practical skills. Depending on the centre's entry, practical ability is examined either through a practical examination or through an alternative-to-practical written paper. Either way the student is being tested on practical reasoning - method design, variable control, measurement precision, sources of error, reading apparatus diagrams, interpreting results - rather than on manual dexterity.

That reasoning is a written skill and it is taught well on paper. The alternative-to-practical paper in particular is a distinct discipline with its own recurring question types: identify the independent variable, explain why a particular control matters, state a source of error and how to reduce it, read a scale correctly, suggest an improvement. Students lose marks on it consistently and schools often cover it late, because laboratory time goes to the practical work itself.

What a school provides and a tutor cannot is the laboratory: the apparatus, the supervision and the experience of handling equipment. That belongs inside the school day and nothing bought outside replaces it. What a tutor adds is the written reasoning layer on top - which is, as it happens, where the examined marks are.

The table sets out the practical-skills question types and what each one actually wants. Confirm which practical route your child's centre has entered them for; it is on the entry statement alongside the code.

04

The English decision, and why it reaches further than the grade

English at IGCSE involves a choice that affects more than a single grade, and in this district it is frequently made by default rather than deliberately. English as a Second Language 0510 and English First Language 0500 are different qualifications with different papers, different demands and different consequences downstream, and a student who could succeed at either is sometimes entered for the one the school happens to run for their group.

On the First Language paper the central skill is writing about how a writer achieves an effect, not about what a passage says. Students arrive able to summarise fluently and lose marks because summary is not what is being rewarded. Directed writing adds a second demand: producing a specific text type for a specific audience, where the conventions carry marks independently of the quality of the prose. Both are technique, and both move within a handful of sessions once named.

On the English as a Second Language paper the marks sit in reading-comprehension precision and in following the controlled-writing rubric exactly. Fluent speakers underperform here surprisingly often, because fluency is not the thing being measured and an answer that reads well but ignores the rubric scores badly. Practising against the rubric rather than practising English is the whole of the fix.

The downstream point is worth knowing. MoE equivalency on the British track requires five accredited subjects in GCSE or IGCSE certificates at a grade of no less than E or grade 3, and Arabic and Islamic Education are not counted among the five. Receiving schools and universities set their own requirements and sometimes name a specific English qualification. Ask the receiving institution what it expects before the entry is made, not afterwards.

Which subjects reward past papers and which still need content

There is a question families should ask before buying a weekly hour: is this subject's problem content or technique? The answer differs by subject and it changes what the hour should contain. Buying content teaching for a technique failure is the most common waste in this market, and buying past-paper drilling for a genuine content gap is the second.

Mathematics at Extended or Higher tier usually has both, and the proportions shift across the two years: content in Year 10, technique and timing in Year 11. The sciences are typically content-heavy in the first year and almost entirely technique in the second, because the extended response and the practical-skills paper dominate the recoverable marks. English is overwhelmingly technique at both stages - there is very little content to learn and a great deal of method. Economics and Business sit in between: a modest content base and then evaluation technique that decides the band.

The practical test is the marked script again. If the student is getting whole questions wrong because they do not recognise the topic, that is content. If they are getting partial marks on questions they clearly understand, that is technique, and no amount of re-teaching will move it. A tutor who cannot make that distinction in the first session will spend the term on the wrong side of it.

The table gives a subject-by-subject starting point. Override it with what the marked script actually shows for your child.

Coursework, controlled assessment and where a tutor stops

IGCSE carries less assessed coursework than it once did and less than the IB Diploma, but where a component is assessed internally or completed as controlled work, the line between teaching and producing it is a line with consequences. The same line governs the Diploma internal assessments and the Extended Essay that many of these students will meet in two years.

What a tutor may do: explain what the assessment criteria reward, teach the technique the component requires, model an approach on an entirely different task, read the student's own draft and question reasoning that does not hold, and point out where a section fails to address what it is supposed to. What a tutor may not do: write, draft, rewrite, edit to completion or supply any part of it. IB Gram tutors do not produce assessed work, and we state it rather than leaving it implied, because this search result contains operations that sell completed assessed work outright.

The materials question belongs here too. We do not reproduce or supply Cambridge, Pearson or IB syllabus documents, past papers, mark schemes, grade-boundary tables or subject guides. Those are published and owned by the boards; your child's school holds the current versions and the boards publish what is openly available. A tutor's work is to teach against a mark scheme and mark the student's own answers honestly against it. If a provider advertises a downloadable library of board material as a feature, ask who holds the copyright in it.

There is a practical as well as an ethical argument here. The hours that actually buy marks on an internally assessed component are hours spent on the student's own reasoning. A polished document shaped by somebody else teaches the student nothing and carries all the risk, and the risk sits with the child rather than with whoever was paid.

07

What the wrong code costs, and what the right one costs

Think about price as a function of match rather than of rate, because in this subject the cost of a mismatch dwarfs the difference between bands. A term of weekly sessions on the wrong board's papers costs whatever was paid plus a term of the two years available, and the second part is the expensive half. That is the risk the budget end of this market carries: not that the tutor is weak, but that nobody checked the code.

The published bands, for reference, each belonging to the provider that published it and read in October 2026. Tutopiya advertises from AED 33 to 52 an hour and EdFlik from AED 45 to 65 at the budget end. Unitors publishes IGCSE tuition from AED 150. Bestimate's Tutoring Cost Dubai 2026 table puts qualified online tuition at AED 150 to 300, in-home one-to-one including travel at AED 180 to 350, and specialist IB, IGCSE and A Level provision at AED 200 to 450 or more. TutorChase publishes AED 270. BartyED publishes AED 650. Home tutors are quoted up to AED 500 an hour including travel. None of those is an IB Gram price.

Where the bands genuinely matter is the type of job. A three-session block fixing the six-mark extended response needs a specialist who knows that scheme, and because it is short the hourly rate is a small part of the decision. A year of consolidating a Core-tier subject that is already stable needs competence rather than specialism and should be bought accordingly. Spreading the specialist band thinly across seven subjects is the standard way an IGCSE budget disappears without a grade moving.

Monthly comparison is cleaner. One Dubai provider publishes AED 799 a month for eight online sessions, roughly AED 100 an hour. In-home monthly packages are advertised at AED 1,599 to AED 1,799 for four two-hour visits, roughly AED 200 to 225 for the same eight hours of teaching. IB Gram does not offer home visits in the UAE; in-home tutoring is a service we offer only in India, and sessions for Al Mankhool students run one-to-one over live video.

08

Permits, regulators and the mandatory UAE subjects

Private tutoring in the UAE runs on a permit, and a parent can check it directly. The MoHRE private tuition work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023 and is granted free of charge for two years. Eligible applicants include teachers registered in government or private schools, employees in the government and private sectors, unemployed individuals, school students aged 15 to 18 and university students. MoHRE's own service is Issuance of a New Work Permit - Private Tutor Licensing, applied for through the smart app, website and e-services system with a stated two-working-day completion time. Because the permit is free, no part of a quoted rate is a permit fee, and operating without one carries fines and penalties under the applicable laws. No fine schedule is published, so nobody should be quoting an amount.

The school side divides by emirate. KHDA is responsible for enhancing and overseeing the quality of private education in Dubai and publishes inspection reports on a six-band scale from Outstanding to Very Weak. ADEK supervises the licensing and accreditation of private schools in Abu Dhabi and Al Ain. The Sharjah Private Education Authority regulates private education in Sharjah, Ras Al Khaimah's Department of Knowledge does the same there, and the Ministry of Education supervises private schools in Ajman, Umm Al Quwain and Fujairah. Sharjah's and Ras Al Khaimah's authorities also approve tuition fees, curricula, programmes, courses, activities and assessment methods.

A tutoring business with premises in Dubai needs a different instrument again: a KHDA Educational Services Permit for a training institute, with initial approval first and renewal requested at least thirty days before expiry. IB Gram holds no such permit, no regulator accreditation and no UAE office, and does not describe itself as approved by KHDA, ADEK, SPEA, the Ministry of Education, the IB, Cambridge or Pearson. Where a page in this search result does claim otherwise, ask it for the permit number.

Alongside the IGCSE timetable sits a block that is not optional. Arabic, Islamic Education and Social or Moral Studies are mandatory in all Dubai private schools regardless of the licensed curriculum, with KHDA's requirements due from the start of the 2025-26 academic year, or April 2026 where the year begins in April. Instructional time is calculated on a forty-minute lesson unit, and KHDA advises at least twenty-five minutes for any mandatory-subject lesson. Separate classes for Arabs and non-Arabs are required for Arabic as a first language, Islamic Education and Social Studies, and combined classes are strictly prohibited. For the mandatory subjects, using different or additional content without prior permission from the Ministry of Education is strictly prohibited, which limits what any tutor can legitimately offer in them.

Where we tutor

The school mix around Al Mankhool

This is a dense part of old Dubai where neighbours rarely share a syllabus. The notes below are about what each area's school mix means for finding somebody on the right code, rather than about the length of a drive.

Al Mankhool

Apartment living with a mixed intake across British, Indian and IB provision. A recommendation passed between two families in the same building frequently points to a tutor on a different board entirely, which is why the code question has to be asked every time.

Bur Dubai and Al Fahidi

The historic core with long-established schools, several of which split entries between Cambridge and Pearson by subject. A single student can therefore sit one board in mathematics and another in a science, which surprises parents more often than it should.

Karama

Dense, close and home to the cheapest word-of-mouth tuition in the city. That market is largely generalist, which is adequate for consolidating a Core-tier subject and poor for an Extended-tier science where the extended response decides the grade.

Al Satwa and Al Hamriya

Mixed residential with students travelling in several directions. Because the school mix is wide, this is where families most often end up buying tuition for the wrong qualification - O Level practice for an IGCSE entry, or the reverse.

Al Jafiliya and Za'abeel

Toward the Trade Centre, with working-parent households and sessions that drift late. For essay subjects an evening hour is fine; for the non-calculator mathematics paper and for timed science practice, fatigue costs accuracy first.

Oud Metha

The adjacent school belt a short drive east, with several large schools running to sixteen. Families here and in Al Mankhool compare notes constantly, which is useful about schools and misleading about tutors.

Al Jaddaf and Dubai Healthcare City

Newer towers and the nearest IB continuum option, so some students here are on MYP rather than IGCSE. Different assessment model, different support, and the two should not be bought as the same product.

Deira and Al Garhoud

Across the creek with its own school cluster. Students travelling that way lose the afternoon to the crossing between four and six, so their sessions realistically start later than a family in Al Mankhool itself would plan.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in Al Mankhool

The Al Mankhool and Bur Dubai schools

Long-established schools running Cambridge, Pearson and in places O Level provision to sixteen, with an Indian-curriculum presence alongside. The board split within and between these schools is the practical reason the code matters more than the postcode.

  • Ambassador School, Al Mankhool
  • New Academy School
  • Dubai Gem Private School
  • St Mary's Catholic High School
  • The Indian High School, Dubai
  • Pakistan Education Academy

Where this belt's students go at sixteen

The post-sixteen provision reachable from Al Mankhool, running A Level, the Diploma or American-curriculum routes. Their entry requirements are stated in named qualifications, which is another reason the code on the certificate matters.

  • Deira International School
  • Swiss International Scientific School Dubai
  • Universal American School Dubai
  • Dubai English Speaking College
  • GEMS Modern Academy
  • Hartland International School

Schools are named here only as context for the curricula taught around Al Mankhool; no affiliation, partnership or endorsement is implied or claimed.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Ask the school for the entry statement

One line, already in the school's records, naming the board, the four-digit or alphanumeric code, the tier and the practical route for each subject. Everything in a sensible plan follows from it, and without it the plan is a guess about which papers to practise.

  2. 02

Send one marked script with it

The most recent marked paper, even a bad one. It shows whether whole questions are being missed - a content gap - or partial marks are being dropped on questions the student clearly understood, which is technique and needs an entirely different hour.

  3. 03

Free trial lesson on the correct code

A full one-to-one session at no charge with a specialist on that exact code and tier, built around a question the student has already attempted. The output should be a named pattern rather than a general impression that things went well.

  4. 04

    The plan follows the pattern

A named trap - the six-mark explain question, unwritten method, the alternative-to-practical paper, directed writing - is usually three to five sessions. Genuine content gaps need a term. We would rather sell the short thing that fixes it than the long thing that postpones it.

  5. 05

Papers, then review against school marks

In the final year the work is timed papers on the correct code, marked against the official scheme, with losses categorised each time. Progress is judged on school assessments and mocks, and if those are not moving the plan changes or the tutor does.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

Matched to the code, not the subject name

0580 and 4MA1 are different papers. 0625 and 4PH1 are different papers. 0607 is not 0580. We match on what the entry statement says, because a mismatch costs a term of the two years available and the term is the expensive part.

The extended response taught deliberately

In IGCSE science the six-mark explain question is where grades are decided, and it rewards a linked causal chain rather than a volume of correct facts. It transfers across all three sciences and it is almost never taught in a weekly content hour.

Practical skills treated as an examined paper

Variable control, sources of error, reading scales and suggesting improvements are written skills with recurring question types. The laboratory stays with the school; the examined reasoning layer is what an hour outside it can genuinely add.

Content and technique told apart

Whole questions missed is a content gap; partial marks dropped on understood questions is technique. The two need different hours, and buying the wrong one is the most common waste in this market. We make the call from a marked script in the first session.

Short blocks where short blocks are the answer

A named pattern is three to five sessions. We scope from the script, fix the pattern, and stop - rather than converting every problem into a term-long weekly commitment that is easier to sell and slower to work.

Nothing claimed that cannot be evidenced

No regulator approval, no UAE office, no grade guarantees, no board documents supplied, and every dirham figure attributed to the provider that published it with the month it was read. Ask any provider claiming more to show the paperwork.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Al Mankhool: your questions answered

Why does the syllabus code matter more than finding someone nearby in Al Mankhool?+

Because the code decides which papers your child sits. Cambridge Mathematics is 0580, Cambridge International Mathematics is 0607 and Pearson Mathematics A is 4MA1 - three different courses with different question architecture and different mark schemes. In a district this dense, plenty of tutors are nearby; the one who helps is the one working from the right paper set. A mismatch is invisible for about six weeks because the content overlaps, then a mock exposes it. Ask the school for the entry statement before you pay for anything.

My child knows the science but only gets half marks on the long questions. What is happening?+

They are writing a list where the scheme wants a chain. A six-mark extended response is marked by the presence of specific linked points - this happens, which causes this, which means this - so eight true but unordered statements score about half, while three properly connected sentences score well. Students find it counterintuitive because the fix means writing less. They need to see it marked against the real scheme two or three times before they believe it, and then it transfers across Physics, Chemistry and Biology.

How can an online tutor help with science practicals?+

By teaching the part that is actually examined. Depending on the centre's entry, practical ability is assessed through a practical examination or through an alternative-to-practical written paper, and both test practical reasoning - variable control, measurement precision, sources of error, reading apparatus diagrams, suggesting improvements - rather than manual dexterity. That is a written skill with recurring question types, and it is taught well on paper. The laboratory, the apparatus and the supervision stay with the school, where they belong and where they are already paid for.

Should my child be entered for English First Language or English as a Second Language?+

Ask the receiving school or university what it expects before the entry is made, because the two are different qualifications with different downstream consequences and the decision is often taken by default. First Language 0500 rewards analysing how a writer creates an effect, plus directed writing in a specified text type. English as a Second Language 0510 rewards precise comprehension and following the controlled-writing rubric exactly, and is tiered Core and Extended. Either can count among the five subjects MoE equivalency recognises on the British track.

Is my child's problem content or exam technique?+

A marked script answers it in minutes. If whole questions are being missed because the topic is not recognised, that is content and needs teaching. If partial marks are being dropped on questions the student clearly understood, that is technique and no amount of re-teaching will move it. Across subjects the balance differs: English is almost entirely technique, Biology is content-heavy in the first year and technique in the second, mathematics shifts from content in Year 10 to timing and method in Year 11.

How many subjects should we actually buy support in?+

Fewer than most families start with. Spreading a budget across seven subjects is the standard way to spend it without moving a single grade, because nothing receives enough hours to change. Work backwards from what the next stage names: MoE equivalency on the British track counts five accredited IGCSE subjects at no less than grade E or 3, excluding Arabic and Islamic Education, and receiving schools state their own requirements in named subjects. Fund those properly and let the school's own provision carry what is already stable.

Can the Core tier hold my child's grade down no matter what we spend?+

Yes, which makes the tier the most consequential fact in the plan. Many Cambridge subjects are tiered Core and Extended; Pearson Mathematics A is tiered Foundation and Higher. The lower tier caps the grade available, so hours spent reaching for a grade the tier cannot award are wasted hours. One or two diagnostic sessions on past papers from each tier will show which one the student is genuinely working at, and the conversation with the school is free to have while a change is still practical.

What is the alternative-to-practical paper and how do we prepare for it?+

A written paper testing practical reasoning where a centre has not entered candidates for the practical examination route. It has recurring question types: identify the independent, dependent and controlled variables; explain why a particular control protects the conclusion; name a specific source of error and its effect; propose a concrete method or apparatus change; read a scale with appropriate precision; suggest an improvement addressing a named limitation. Each has a right shape of answer, and schools often cover it late because laboratory time goes to the practical work itself.

Which exam series will my child sit, and can a bad result be retaken?+

Cambridge runs a June series and a November series for UAE candidates; Pearson Edexcel International GCSE exams are available in May/June and November each year. So a subject that goes wrong in the summer can usually be retaken in the autumn, with a second entry fee and a short concentrated block of work. Decide early, because entry deadlines sit months ahead of the exams. Note the results gap too: Pearson's November 2025 results reached students on 22 January 2026.

Should we be revising toward a February or March exam window?+

No. The Cambridge February and March series is offered to India only - UAE candidates sit the June and November series. Cambridge's Primary and Lower Secondary Checkpoint tests run in March, May and October, which is a different thing and is sometimes confused with the IGCSE series in locally written tutoring material. If any plan has your child in Al Mankhool working toward a February or March examination, it is using the wrong country's calendar, and that is worth treating as a signal about the rest of its detail.

Why does Cambridge mention six administrative zones?+

Because the timetable differs between them. Cambridge allocates every centre to one of six administrative zones, states that it is essential to use the correct version of the timetable for your zone, and says plainly that it cannot accept responsibility for candidates who miss an exam after using the wrong one. The practical instruction for a family here is to take dates from the school's entry statement and the board's live timetable rather than from a PDF found through a search engine, and to link the official timetable rather than trusting a restated date.

What does an IGCSE specialist cost around Al Mankhool and Bur Dubai?+

Published rates start at AED 33 to 65 an hour - Tutopiya from AED 33 to 52, EdFlik from AED 45 to 65 - which typically buys a university student. Unitors publishes IGCSE from AED 150. Bestimate's Dubai rate table puts qualified online tuition at AED 150 to 300, in-home one-to-one at AED 180 to 350 including travel, and specialist provision at AED 200 to 450 or more. TutorChase publishes AED 270 and BartyED AED 650. All read October 2026, all belonging to the provider named rather than to us.

Does IB Gram send a tutor to our building in Al Mankhool?+

No. IB Gram does not offer home visits anywhere in the UAE; in-home tutoring is a service we offer only in India. Sessions for Al Mankhool students run one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time. For code-matched work that is the point rather than a compromise: the pool becomes every specialist on your child's exact syllabus and tier rather than the few qualified people prepared to drive into this district at a fixed hour, and marked scripts sit on a shared screen both people can annotate.

Will you give us past papers and mark schemes to work from?+

No, and no provider should. Those documents are published and owned by Cambridge, Pearson and the IB, and reproducing or redistributing them is copyright infringement. Your child's school holds the current versions and the boards publish what is openly available. A tutor's job is to teach against a mark scheme, show exactly how marks are allocated in a specific question, and mark the student's own written answers honestly against it. If a provider advertises a downloadable library of board material as a feature, ask who holds the copyright.

Do private tutors in Dubai need a permit, and should it affect the price?+

They need one and it should not affect the price. The MoHRE private tuition work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023 and is granted free of charge for two years, covering registered school teachers, government and private-sector employees, unemployed residents, university students and school students aged 15 to 18. Since it costs the tutor nothing, no part of any quoted rate is a permit fee being recovered. Tutoring without one carries fines and penalties under the applicable laws, and no fine schedule is published.

What if nobody is available on our exact code and tier?+

We say so rather than putting a tutor from a neighbouring syllabus in the slot. The common combinations - 0580 Extended, 0620, 0625, 4MA1 Higher - usually match quickly. Narrower entries such as 0607, 0606, 4PM1 or a less-taught language take longer, and the honest options are to wait for the right specialist, to start with a related one on a clearly stated interim basis, or not to book at all. Because delivery is online, the pool is every specialist on that code rather than only those who would travel here.

One line from the school, one marked paper, then start

Everything useful on this page depends on two documents you can get for nothing. The entry statement names the board, the code, the tier and the practical route, which is what determines every paper and every mark scheme the sessions should work from. One marked script shows whether the marks are going to missing content or to a technique pattern, and those need different hours. Bring both to a free trial lesson with a specialist on that exact code, and let the named pattern decide whether you need three sessions or a term. Sessions run one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time.
