IB Chemistry Tutor in Al Mankhool

Families comparing an IB chemistry tutor in Al Mankhool with one in Karama, Bur Dubai or Oud Metha are comparing four neighbourhoods that are minutes apart and, for this subject, functionally identical. The comparisons that genuinely change the answer are different ones: Higher against Standard Level, IB Chemistry against A Level, a group class against one-to-one. This page runs those instead. Chemistry sessions are delivered one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time.

IB & IGCSE in Al Mankhool

Four neighbourhoods, and the comparison that does not matter

A parent in Al Mankhool looking for Chemistry help will usually end up comparing their own neighbourhood with the ones immediately around it. Karama is across the road. Bur Dubai runs into Al Mankhool with no obvious boundary. Oud Metha's school belt is a short drive east, and Al Satwa and Al Jafiliya sit to the north. The question forms itself: is there more choice, or better choice, a few minutes away?

For Diploma Chemistry the answer is no, and it is worth saying so plainly rather than pretending a local advantage exists. These districts share one tutoring market. The same small number of people who can teach Higher Level Chemistry competently are available across all of them, the published rates do not vary by street, and the tuition centres that serve one serve the others. A family that spends a fortnight comparing Al Mankhool against Karama has spent a fortnight on a variable that does not move.

What does move the outcome in this subject is a set of comparisons nobody frames as comparisons. Whether the student should be on Higher or Standard Level, which changes the hours needed more than any tutor choice. Whether the IB Diploma or A Level is the better route for a student whose plan requires Chemistry, since the two assess it very differently. Whether a group class, a tuition centre, an in-home arrangement or one-to-one online delivery actually suits a subject with heavy calculation and an internally assessed investigation. And, within the subject itself, whether the student's problem is organic chemistry, energetics or the mole - because those three need completely different hours.

Chemistry is also the Diploma science where the difference between knowing the material and scoring on it is widest. The extended-response questions reward reasoning that connects cause to effect in order, and a student who writes a page of correct chemistry in no particular order scores about half. The calculation questions reward precision and unit discipline, which are not conceptual. The investigation rewards design and uncertainty evaluation, which are not chemistry at all. A capable chemist can lose marks in all three places simultaneously.

One more reason the neighbourhood question misleads: none of these four districts has a Diploma Chemistry campus inside it. Every Diploma student from Al Mankhool, Karama, Bur Dubai or Oud Metha travels outward to the same small set of schools, which means they are taught by the same teachers, work to the same laboratory timetables and sit the same internal deadlines whichever of the four streets they live on. Oud Metha has more schools than Al Mankhool and not more Diploma Chemistry capacity, which is precisely the distinction that disappears when a family compares neighbourhoods rather than provision.

So the rest of this page compares the things that are genuinely variable, and is honest about the one that is not. Where the four districts differ and where they do not. The level decision. The route decision at sixteen. The delivery-format decision. Then where Chemistry marks actually go, what the investigation requires, and what the published rates in this market are - because the rate, like the tutor pool, does not know your postcode.

IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Chemistry appears in four forms across the schools these four districts feed, and each one assesses it differently enough that the support required is a different product rather than a different difficulty.

DPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

IB Diploma Programme Chemistry

Taken at Higher or Standard Level, assessed through written papers plus an internally assessed scientific investigation the student designs, runs and writes. Higher Level adds content and an additional paper, and the organic and energetics material in particular deepens considerably rather than simply extending.

Diploma Chemistry provision serving these four districts sits at the campuses outward from them - Al Jaddaf, across the creek toward Festival City, and out toward Nad Al Sheba. Dubai's private sector runs 227 schools and 387,441 pupils with IB programmes at 7 per cent of enrolment, and the 2026-27 intake adds three new IB schools among seven new private schools.

ALAges 16-18 · Years 12-13

A Level Chemistry

The alternative at sixteen, examined as a standalone qualification with its own practical endorsement arrangements rather than as one of six subjects with a core attached. Content overlaps substantially with Diploma Higher Level but the assessment structure and the depth distribution differ.

Relevant because a student in these districts choosing at sixteen is choosing between two genuinely different experiences of the same science. A student who wants Chemistry taken seriously and finds the Diploma's breadth unmanageable is making a timetable decision, and conflating that with a chemistry decision is a common and expensive error.

Cambridge IGCSE Chemistry

Tiered Core and Extended, with practical skills assessed through either a practical examination or the alternative-to-practical written paper depending on the centre's entry. Mole calculations and organic basics are introduced here, and how well they were secured predicts the first Diploma term.

A student arriving into Diploma Chemistry from 0620 Core rather than Extended has a genuine content gap, and the gap surfaces in the October of Diploma year one. Closing it in the summer before Year 12 costs a short block; discovering it in the first Diploma assessments costs a term that was needed for new material.

MYPAges 11-16 · Years 7-11

IB Middle Years Programme Sciences

Science taught as an integrated group and assessed against four criteria on a 1-8 scale rather than by terminal papers. The inquiring and designing and the processing and evaluating criteria are the direct ancestors of the Diploma investigation, which makes this the cheapest place to learn investigation discipline.

Where a household in these districts has one child on MYP and another in the Diploma - which is common, since siblings sometimes attend different schools - the two need genuinely different support. Buying the same weekly pattern for both is money wasted on one of them.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

Diploma Chemistry fails in three distinct places, and the three need different hours. Below are the topic areas students across these districts most often need, with what the real difficulty is in each.

Stoichiometry and the mole

HL and SL

The foundation and the usual site of a gap carried from IGCSE. The difficulty is almost never the concept; it is confidence under unfamiliar wording, and unit discipline through a multi-step calculation. Highly drillable and therefore quick to repair.

Atomic structure and periodicity

HL and SL

Deceptively easy to revise badly, because the content reads as memorisable. Marks go on explaining trends with reasons rather than stating them, which means the answer needs charge, shielding and distance assembled in order.

Bonding and structure

HL and SL

Explaining a physical property from a structure is the recurring demand, and students answer by naming the bonding type without connecting it to the property asked about. That connection is the whole mark, and it is a writing habit.

Energetics and thermochemistry

HL and SL

Where students who are comfortable elsewhere lose marks in volume. Sign conventions, the direction of energy change and the careful handling of enthalpy cycles all punish approximate work, and the repair is procedural rather than conceptual.

Chemical kinetics

HL and SL

Rate expressions and mechanisms, with Higher Level going considerably further. Graphical interpretation carries marks, and students who can describe a mechanism in words often cannot extract an order of reaction from data presented unfamiliarly.

Equilibrium

HL and SL

Qualitative reasoning about shifts is usually secure; the quantitative treatment at Higher Level is where difficulty concentrates. Answers need the direction of the shift and the reason for it, and the reason is what gets omitted under time.

Acids, bases and redox

HL and SL

Calculation-heavy at Higher Level, with pH and buffer work demanding logarithmic handling some students have not secured in mathematics. Redox half-equations are mechanical and worth drilling until automatic.

Organic chemistry

HL and SL

The single largest consumer of Chemistry tuition hours in this market. The content is a network of reactions and conditions rather than a list, and students who learn it as a list cannot answer a synthesis question. Learning it as pathways changes the outcome.

Measurement, analysis and uncertainty

HL and SL

Taught early, treated as administrative, then required in the investigation and in every data question. Students who never learned to evaluate uncertainty properly lose marks in two places at once, and the repair is short if done early.

The scientific investigation

HL and SL

The internally assessed component, with a school-set deadline and a laboratory requirement the school controls. Design and uncertainty evaluation carry the marks students miss, and both require justifying choices rather than reporting results.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three ways to buy Chemistry support, and a straightforward way to choose between them: match the mode to which of the subject's three failure points is actually in play.

Calculation drill block

A short block aimed at the mechanical side of the subject: mole calculations under unfamiliar wording, enthalpy cycles with sign conventions, pH and buffer work, redox half-equations. These are procedural, they respond quickly to repetition, and three or four sessions usually makes them reliable.

  • Multi-step calculations under time, marked for unit discipline
  • Sign conventions and energy direction drilled until automatic
  • Half-equations practised to the point of not thinking about them
  • Logarithmic handling checked separately if pH work is weak

Organic pathways block

The largest single consumer of Chemistry hours, taught as a network of reagents, conditions and transformations rather than as a list to memorise. Students who hold it as pathways can answer a synthesis question; students who hold it as a list cannot, however much they have learned.

  • Reactions mapped as pathways with reagents and conditions attached
  • Synthesis questions worked backwards from the target molecule
  • Mechanism steps drawn, not described
  • Higher Level extensions added once the core network holds

Weekly one-to-one over live video

A fixed hour with the same specialist through the term, appropriate where content is genuinely missing rather than where one procedural pattern is failing. For Higher Level students this is usually the right mode, because the second year leans on the first.

  • One tutor, one student, same hour each week
  • Extended-response structure practised on real question stems
  • Written work screen-shared and marked during the session
  • Earlier topics re-tested rather than re-explained

01

What actually differs between these four districts

Comparing neighbourhoods is a reasonable instinct and in this case it produces almost nothing, so it is worth doing the comparison properly once and then dropping it. The four districts - Al Mankhool, Karama, Bur Dubai and Oud Metha - sit within minutes of one another, none of them contains a Diploma Chemistry campus, and all of them send students outward to the same handful of schools. The tutoring market is shared, and the published rates do not vary by street.

Three things do differ, none of them about tutor availability. Access to an early session differs, because commute length differs: a student at the Al Jaddaf continuum school has no journey, while one travelling back from Festival City loses the late afternoon to the creek crossing. Familiarity differs, because students who moved campus at sixteen have households that do not know the new school's deadlines. And the visible informal market differs: Karama's word-of-mouth tuition network is larger and cheaper than Al Mankhool's, which matters only if a generalist is adequate for the job.

That last distinction is the one worth taking seriously. For consolidating Standard Level Chemistry in a student who broadly understands it, a competent generalist at the lower end of the market is a reasonable purchase. For Higher Level organic chemistry, for energetics with its sign conventions, or for investigation design, it is not, and the apparent saving disappears into a term that did not change anything.

The table runs the comparison explicitly. It exists so that the question can be answered and set aside, rather than consuming weeks that should have gone on the level and format decisions below.

Higher against Standard Level, which does change the answer

This is the comparison worth the fortnight that the neighbourhood question gets. Diploma Chemistry at Higher Level is not Standard Level with extra topics bolted on; the organic and energetics material deepens, kinetics and equilibrium acquire a quantitative treatment, and an additional written paper means extended multi-step questions that Standard Level students do not meet. The number of hours a student needs is set more by this than by anything a tutor does.

The second-order effect matters as much. Higher Level Chemistry's second year leans on its first in a way Standard Level's does not, particularly through organic chemistry, where year-two synthesis questions assume a secure network of year-one reactions. A student who learned organic chemistry as a list in year one and passed the assessments on recall will find year two unmanageable, and by then there is no room to relearn it as pathways.

For families choosing, the honest signal is not an IGCSE grade. It is performance on the harder structured questions: whether the student can explain a property from a structure, whether they can carry units through a three-step calculation, and whether they handle an enthalpy cycle without losing a sign. A single diagnostic session answers all three, and it is a far better basis for the decision than an overall grade that may have been achieved on the easier marks.

Confirm component weightings and paper structure from your school's subject outline. The table compares the levels on the dimensions that change how an hour should be spent.

IB Chemistry or A Level Chemistry, for a student choosing at sixteen

Students in these districts leaving Year 11 generally choose between the Diploma and A Level, and when Chemistry is central to their plan the comparison is substantive rather than a matter of preference. The chemistry content overlaps a great deal. What differs is the shape of the commitment around it, and that is what decides whether the student thrives.

The Diploma puts Chemistry inside six subjects plus Theory of Knowledge, the Extended Essay and Creativity, Activity, Service. A student who wants to go deep into Chemistry does so while carrying five other subjects and a core. A Level narrows to three or four subjects, which means more time per subject and less breadth. Neither is better in the abstract; they suit different students, and the mistake is treating the choice as being about chemistry when it is largely about load.

The practical-work arrangements differ too. The Diploma's internally assessed investigation is a single substantial independent piece with a school-set deadline and a laboratory requirement. A Level practical work is organised differently, with its own endorsement arrangements. A student who is strong at independent project work and weak at sustained breadth may suit one; a student with the opposite profile may suit the other.

The decision has a deadline, and it belongs to the school and the receiving institution rather than to the family's timetable. Ask both what they require and when the choice must be made. Also ask the universities actually under consideration what they expect, naming them individually, because entry requirements are set by each institution and do change. The table compares the two routes on what a Chemistry-focused student should weigh.

Group class, centre, in-home or one-to-one online

The format comparison is the third one that genuinely changes outcomes, and for Chemistry it is less obvious than for an essay subject. A group class works where everybody needs the same content at the same pace, which in Chemistry is true for a cohort being taught a new topic and false for a group of students who each have a different one of the subject's three failure points. Two students in a group of six might need organic pathways and enthalpy sign conventions respectively, and a single class serves neither well.

A tuition centre offers structure and a timetable, and for some families that external discipline is the point. The trade is that a centre's schedule is fixed and its grouping is by level rather than by diagnosis. An in-home arrangement offers a familiar setting and a committed arrival time, at the published premium of AED 180 to 500 an hour including travel against AED 150 to 300 for a qualified online tutor - and across these four districts the drives are short, so that premium buys scarcity rather than mileage.

One-to-one online delivery suits this subject for a specific reason beyond rate. Chemistry work is written: mechanisms drawn, calculations laid out step by step, enthalpy cycles constructed. A shared screen that both people can annotate is more legible than a notebook turned sideways at the edge of a table, and the student's working is visible as it happens rather than after it is finished. For a subject where method marks hinge on what is written down, that is a practical advantage.

IB Gram does not offer home visits in the UAE; in-home tutoring is a service we offer only in India. The table compares the four formats on what matters for Chemistry specifically rather than in general.

Where Chemistry marks go, in any postcode

  • Extended responses score on ordered causal reasoning, not on volume of correct content
  • Calculation losses are procedural: units, rounding, signs, concentration against amount
  • Organic chemistry held as a list cannot answer a synthesis question
  • Reorganising organic chemistry as pathways is the highest-value work in the subject
  • None of the three is fixed by re-teaching the topic
  • All three are visible in a marked script within minutes

Three places, consistently, and they are independent of where the student lives. The first is the extended-response question. Chemistry's longer questions are marked for ordered reasoning: a structure causes a property, a property explains a behaviour, a behaviour accounts for the observation. A student who writes a page of correct chemistry in no particular order scores about half, and leaves the examination believing it went well because everything they wrote was true.

The second is calculation discipline. Mole calculations, enthalpy cycles, pH and buffer work and redox half-equations all have procedural failure modes that have nothing to do with understanding: a dropped unit, a premature rounding, a sign reversed in a cycle, a concentration mistaken for an amount. These are mechanical, highly drillable, and students lose marks on them repeatedly because nobody has made them write every step out.

The third is organic chemistry held as a list. A student who memorises reagents and products individually can answer a recall question and cannot answer a synthesis question, because synthesis requires navigating a network from a starting material to a target. The same body of knowledge, organised as pathways rather than as entries, produces a different grade. Rebuilding it takes several sessions and it is the highest-value organic work available.

What all three have in common is that more content teaching does not fix any of them. They are reasoning structure, procedural discipline and knowledge organisation, and a tutor who responds to a Chemistry problem by re-teaching the topic will produce a student who understands more and scores the same.

06

The investigation, and the line a tutor does not cross

Diploma Chemistry's internally assessed investigation is the student's own experimental work and writing, marked against published criteria, with a deadline set by the school and laboratory access allocated by the school. Two things follow. The binding date is the last viable data-collection slot rather than the submission deadline, and the topic has to be chosen early enough that it can be abandoned if the apparatus cannot support it.

The marks are not where students expect. Design and the evaluation of uncertainty carry credit that is routinely left on the table, because both require justifying and criticising choices rather than reporting what happened. A student who ran a careful experiment and wrote up the results accurately, without defending the method or engaging honestly with its limitations, has produced a competent laboratory report and a weak investigation.

The boundary for any tutor is firm and worth stating plainly. A tutor may explain what each criterion rewards, test whether a research question can be answered with the apparatus the school can supply, teach uncertainty analysis as a method the student then applies, model an approach on a different example, read the student's own draft and question reasoning that does not hold, and point out a section that fails to address its criterion. A tutor may not write, draft, rewrite, edit to completion or supply any part of it. IB Gram tutors do not produce assessed work.

This matters commercially as well as ethically, because the search result this page sits in contains operations that sell completed Internal Assessments outright at published prices. Under IB academic-honesty rules that is a malpractice trigger and the finding lands on the student. We also do not reproduce or supply IB syllabus documents, past papers, mark schemes, grade-boundary tables or subject guides; those are published and owned by the IB and your child's school holds the current versions.

07

Chemistry for medicine and the sciences: verify, do not assume

A large share of the Diploma Chemistry students in these districts are taking it because a medical, dental, pharmacy or engineering route requires it. That makes the subject's grade consequential in a way that changes how a family should spend, and it makes one instruction more important than any tuition advice: verify the requirement with each institution individually rather than relying on a general rule.

Entry requirements are set by each university and they do change. Some name Chemistry at Higher Level specifically; some accept Standard Level with conditions; some require a particular overall point total, or a specific combination with Biology, Physics or Mathematics. A requirement quoted on a tutoring page, including this one, is not a basis for a two-year plan. The institution's own published page is.

What this does change about tuition is prioritisation. Where Chemistry is named by the route the student is pursuing, it is a subject worth concentrating a budget on rather than spreading thinly across six. Where it is being taken as a sixth subject with no downstream requirement, the calculus is different and the school's own provision may well be sufficient. That distinction should be made explicitly before a term of sessions is bought.

One thing nobody should imply: tutoring is not a requirement for admission anywhere, and it is not part of any equivalency or attestation process. MoE equivalency is a documentation procedure performed by the authority, and on the British track it requires five accredited GCSE or IGCSE subjects at no less than grade E or 3, excluding Arabic and Islamic Education, plus one A Level at E or two AS Levels at the same grade. No IB points threshold for equivalency appears in the sourced material available for this project, so none is published here - check moe.gov.ae or the emirate attestation authority directly.

08

The price of a Chemistry hour does not know your postcode

Start at the top of the market, because families comparing districts often assume a premium exists somewhere nearby and it does not. BartyED publishes AED 650 an hour for premium named provision. Specialist IB, IGCSE and A Level tuition sits at AED 200 to 450 or more on Bestimate's Tutoring Cost Dubai 2026 table, with TutorChase publishing AED 270 and Unitors publishing IB tuition from AED 200. Qualified online tuition runs AED 150 to 300. In-home one-to-one including travel is quoted at AED 180 to 500, with Bestimate putting it at AED 180 to 350. At the budget end, EdFlik advertises from AED 45 to 65 and Tutopiya from AED 33 to 52. All read in October 2026, and every figure belongs to the provider named rather than to IB Gram.

Those bands are city-wide. Nothing in them varies between Al Mankhool, Karama, Bur Dubai and Oud Metha, which is the practical answer to the comparison this page opened with. What varies is what each band is appropriate for. The budget band buys a generalist, which is adequate for consolidating Standard Level content a student broadly understands. The specialist band buys someone who knows Higher Level organic chemistry as a network and knows the investigation criteria band by band, and that is what a Higher Level student with a synthesis problem actually needs.

Monthly figures are easier to plan against. One Dubai provider publishes AED 799 a month for eight online sessions, near AED 100 an hour. In-home monthly packages are advertised at AED 1,599 to AED 1,799 for four two-hour visits, near AED 200 to 225 for the same eight hours of teaching. Bestimate's monthly estimates for weekly one-hour sessions run AED 240 to 600 budget, AED 600 to 1,200 mid-range and AED 1,000 to 2,000 or more for specialist exam-year support.

For context on the wider spend, KHDA confirmed on 22 May 2026 that there would be no increase in private school fees in Dubai for the 2026-27 academic year, under the emirate's second economic incentives package valued at AED 1.5 billion within a AED 2.5 billion total. The laboratory, the apparatus and the taught lessons are already inside that fee. What a family buys privately should be the part the school cannot reach, which for Chemistry is usually reasoning structure, calculation discipline and organic organisation.

09

Permits, regulators and the mandatory block

Two checks available to any parent before paying anybody. The MoHRE private tuition work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023 and is granted free of charge for two years, covering teachers registered in government or private schools, employees in the government and private sectors, unemployed individuals, university students and school students aged 15 to 18. MoHRE's own service is Issuance of a New Work Permit - Private Tutor Licensing, applied for through the smart app, website and e-services system with a stated two-working-day completion time. Because it is free, no part of a quoted rate is a permit fee. Operating without one carries fines and penalties under the applicable laws, and no fine schedule is published, so no amount should be quoted to you.

The second is the school's inspection report. KHDA is responsible for enhancing and overseeing the quality of private education in Dubai and publishes reports on a six-band scale from Outstanding to Very Weak, with comment on science provision specifically. Elsewhere, ADEK supervises the licensing and accreditation of private schools in Abu Dhabi and Al Ain, the Sharjah Private Education Authority regulates Sharjah, Ras Al Khaimah's Department of Knowledge regulates there, and the Ministry of Education supervises Ajman, Umm Al Quwain and Fujairah. Sharjah's and Ras Al Khaimah's authorities also approve tuition fees, curricula, programmes, courses, activities and assessment methods.

A tutoring business with premises and staff in Dubai requires a KHDA Educational Services Permit for a training institute, with initial approval first and renewal requested at least thirty days before expiry. IB Gram holds no such permit, no regulator accreditation and no UAE office, and does not describe itself as approved by KHDA, ADEK, SPEA, the Ministry of Education, the IB, Cambridge or Pearson. ADEK's professional-ethics rules also bar Abu Dhabi private and charter school staff from paid private tutoring of students at their own school, and the MoHRE permit's code of conduct bars serving students affiliated with the tutor's own school.

Finally, the block that competes with Chemistry for timetable space in every Dubai private school. Arabic, Islamic Education and Social or Moral Studies are mandatory regardless of the licensed international curriculum, with KHDA's requirements due from the start of the 2025-26 academic year or April 2026 where the year begins in April. Instructional time is calculated on a forty-minute lesson unit, schools may vary lesson length provided the weekly total is met, and KHDA advises at least twenty-five minutes for any mandatory-subject lesson. Separate classes for Arabs and non-Arabs are required for Arabic as a first language, Islamic Education and Social Studies, and combined classes are strictly prohibited.

Where we tutor

The four districts, compared honestly

These neighbourhoods are minutes apart and share one tutoring market for Diploma Chemistry. The notes below say what genuinely differs between them and what does not, rather than implying a local advantage that is not there.

Al Mankhool

Apartment living with a mixed school intake, so households here hold a wide range of curricula. For Chemistry specifically nothing local distinguishes it: the Diploma campuses are all outward, and the tutor pool is the same one Karama and Bur Dubai draw on.

Karama

The district with the most visible informal tuition market and the cheapest word-of-mouth rates in the city. For Standard Level consolidation that market is usable; for Higher Level organic chemistry and energetics it is generally not, and the saving is not a saving.

Bur Dubai and Al Fahidi

Long-established schools running mainly to sixteen, so Diploma Chemistry students have moved campus. What differs here is familiarity rather than access: the household knows less about the new school's deadlines than about the old school's.

Oud Metha

The adjacent school belt, a short drive east, with several large schools. It has more schools than Al Mankhool and not more Diploma Chemistry capacity, which is exactly the distinction that gets lost when families compare neighbourhoods.

Al Satwa and Al Jafiliya

To the north, mixed residential with students travelling in several directions. Working-parent households here push sessions late, and for a calculation-heavy subject that is a genuine cost rather than a preference.

Al Jaddaf and Dubai Healthcare City

The one genuine difference in the set: the nearest IB continuum option is here, so a student at that school has no commute and the best access to an early session. That is an access advantage, not a market advantage.

Al Garhoud and Festival City

Across the creek, with Diploma and American-curriculum provision. Students travelling that way lose the late afternoon to the crossing between four and six, which pushes Chemistry sessions into the evening whether the family planned it or not.

Al Qusais and Al Nahda

Further out along the Green Line with a large Indian-curriculum cohort. The relevant point for Chemistry is that an in-home tutor crossing from Bur Dubai to Al Qusais is charging for forty minutes of car, which is the clearest case in the set for online delivery.

Where Diploma Chemistry is actually taught near these districts

None of the four neighbourhoods has Diploma Chemistry provision inside it; all of them send students outward to these campuses. That is why the neighbourhood comparison does not change the answer for this subject.

  • Swiss International Scientific School Dubai
  • Deira International School
  • Universal American School Dubai
  • GEMS Modern Academy
  • Hartland International School
  • Dubai English Speaking College

The schools these districts run to sixteen

Cambridge, Pearson and in places O Level provision, with an Indian-curriculum presence alongside. Whether a student secured mole calculations and organic basics here predicts their first Diploma Chemistry term better than any report comment.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

    Stop comparing neighbourhoods

Al Mankhool, Karama, Bur Dubai and Oud Metha share one market for this subject and the published rates do not vary between them. The comparisons that change the outcome are level, route, format and which of Chemistry's three failure points is in play.

  2. 02

Send the level and one marked script

Higher or Standard Level from the school's subject outline, plus the most recent marked Chemistry paper. The script shows in minutes whether the losses are extended-response structure, calculation discipline or organic organisation - three different plans.

  3. 03

Free trial lesson on a real question

A full session at no charge with a specialist at the right level, built around a question the student has already attempted. For Chemistry the diagnosis is visible in the working rather than in conversation, which is why we work from a written attempt.

  4. 04

Pick the mode from the diagnosis

A calculation drill block of three or four sessions, an organic pathways rebuild, or a weekly maintenance hour for a Higher Level student whose second year leans on the first. Most families assume the third and a good number need one of the first two.

  5. 05

Ask the school about the laboratory

If the investigation is in play, the binding date is the last viable data-collection slot rather than the submission deadline. We ask for both the deadline and the laboratory arrangement before planning anything around it.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

Honest that the postcode does not matter

These four districts share one tutoring market, one set of published rates and the same Diploma campuses outward from all of them. We say so rather than inventing a local advantage, and point the decision at level, format and failure point instead.

Matched to the failure point, not the subject

Chemistry fails in three distinct places - extended-response structure, calculation discipline, organic organisation - and each needs different hours. We identify which from a marked script before proposing a plan.

Organic chemistry taught as a network

A student holding organic chemistry as a list can answer recall questions and not synthesis questions. Rebuilding it as pathways takes several sessions and is the highest-value organic work available, particularly before Higher Level year two.

Written working, visible as it happens

Chemistry marks hinge on what is written down: steps laid out, units carried, mechanisms drawn. A shared annotated screen shows the student's working as it is produced rather than after it is finished, which is more useful than a notebook at the table's edge.

Investigation help that stays legitimate

Tutors explain criteria, test whether a question can be answered with available apparatus, teach uncertainty analysis and question the student's own draft. They do not write, draft or complete any part of it, and we supply no board documents.

Every figure attributed, nothing overclaimed

The dirham bands here belong to the providers that published them, with the month read. No regulator approval, no UAE office, no grade guarantees, no university requirement quoted as fact, and no equivalency figure that has not been sourced.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Al Mankhool: your questions answered

Is there more choice of Chemistry tutors in Karama or Bur Dubai than in Al Mankhool?+

Not for Diploma Chemistry. These districts are minutes apart, none of them contains a Diploma Chemistry campus, and all of them send students outward to the same handful of schools. The specialist pool is shared and the published rates do not vary by street. Karama has a larger and cheaper informal tuition market, which is usable for consolidating Standard Level content and generally not for Higher Level organic chemistry or investigation design. Spend the decision on level, format and diagnosis instead of on geography.

How do we tell whether Higher Level Chemistry is right for our child?+

Not from an overall IGCSE grade, which may have been achieved on the easier marks. Look at three specific things: whether the student can explain a physical property from a structure, whether they can carry units correctly through a three-step calculation, and whether they handle an enthalpy cycle without reversing a sign. One diagnostic session answers all three. Higher Level deepens organic and energetics considerably, adds a quantitative treatment of kinetics and equilibrium, and leans harder on year one in year two.

Why does organic chemistry consume so many tuition hours?+

Because most students hold it as a list and the examination asks network questions. A student who has memorised reagents and products individually can answer recall questions and cannot answer a synthesis question, which requires navigating from a starting material to a target through several transformations. The same knowledge reorganised as pathways, with reagents and conditions attached to each step, produces a different grade without any new content. Rebuilding it takes several sessions and is the highest-value organic work there is.

My child knows the chemistry but scores half marks on long questions. Why?+

Because the mark scheme rewards ordered causal reasoning rather than quantity of correct content. Chemistry's extended responses want a structure explaining a property, the property explaining a behaviour, the behaviour accounting for the observation - in that order, with explicit connective language. A page of true chemistry in no particular order scores about half, and the student leaves the exam feeling it went well because everything they wrote was correct. Seeing it marked against the real scheme two or three times is what changes the habit.

Which Chemistry calculations do students lose the most marks on?+

The procedural ones, where the failure has nothing to do with understanding. Mole calculations under unfamiliar wording, enthalpy cycles where a sign gets reversed, pH and buffer work that needs logarithmic handling the mathematics course may not have reached, and redox half-equations. The repeated losses are dropped units, premature rounding, and confusing a concentration with an amount. All of it is mechanical, highly drillable, and usually reliable after three or four sessions of writing every step out under time.

Should we choose the IB Diploma or A Level if Chemistry is the priority?+

The chemistry content overlaps substantially; what differs is the load around it. The Diploma puts Chemistry inside six subjects plus Theory of Knowledge, the Extended Essay and Creativity, Activity, Service. A Level narrows to three or four subjects with more time each. The independent project arrangements differ too, with the Diploma requiring one substantial internally assessed investigation. Neither is better in the abstract. Ask the school when the choice must be made, and check each named university's own published requirements rather than a general rule.

Does a group class or tuition centre work for Diploma Chemistry?+

It works where everybody needs the same content at the same pace, which is true for a cohort meeting a new topic and false for a group whose members each have a different one of the subject's three failure points. Two students in a class of six might need organic pathways and enthalpy sign conventions respectively, and one lesson serves neither well. A centre also groups by level rather than by diagnosis. Where external structure is the thing a student needs, a centre can still be the right answer.

Is an in-home Chemistry tutor worth the premium across these districts?+

The drives between Al Mankhool, Karama, Bur Dubai and Oud Metha are short, so the published in-home premium of AED 180 to 500 an hour including travel, against AED 150 to 300 for a qualified online tutor, is not buying mileage. It is buying a committed arrival time from the small number of people willing to sell one, and scarcity prices itself. IB Gram does not offer home visits in the UAE; in-home tutoring is a service we offer only in India, and Chemistry sessions here run one-to-one over live video.

How does online delivery handle the written side of Chemistry?+

Better than a kitchen table, in practice. Chemistry work is written: calculations laid out step by step, enthalpy cycles constructed, mechanisms drawn. On a shared annotated screen the student's working is visible as it is produced rather than after it is finished, so a dropped unit or a reversed sign is caught at the moment it happens. For a subject where method marks depend entirely on what is written down, seeing the writing as it emerges is a practical advantage rather than a compromise.

When does work on the Chemistry investigation need to start?+

Earlier than the submission deadline suggests, because the binding date is the last viable laboratory slot and that is set by the school's timetable. The sequence needs lead time at every stage: candidate questions, checking feasibility against available apparatus, designing a method good enough that the session is productive, booking access, collecting data with repeats, then processing and writing. Ask the school for the internal deadline and the laboratory arrangement in the same conversation at the start of the year.

Where do students actually lose investigation marks in Chemistry?+

On design and on the evaluation of uncertainty, rather than on the experiment. Both require justifying and criticising choices instead of reporting results, which is a different kind of writing from anything else in the subject. A student who ran a careful experiment and recorded accurate results, without defending the method or engaging honestly with its limitations, has written a competent laboratory report and a weak investigation. That distinction is teachable in a few sessions and is worth more than additional content work.

What exactly can a tutor do with the Chemistry investigation?+

Explain what each criterion rewards. Test whether a research question can be answered with the apparatus the school can supply. Teach uncertainty analysis as a method the student then applies themselves. Model an approach on an entirely different example. Read the student's own draft and question reasoning that does not hold. Point out a section that fails to address its criterion. What a tutor may not do is write, draft, rewrite, edit to completion or supply any part of it. IB Gram tutors do not produce assessed work.

Our child needs Chemistry for medicine. Does that change the plan?+

It changes the prioritisation rather than the teaching. Where Chemistry is named by the route your child is pursuing, it is worth concentrating a budget on rather than spreading thinly across six subjects. The essential instruction is to verify requirements with each institution individually and by name, because they are set by each university and do change - some specify Higher Level, some accept Standard Level with conditions, some require particular combinations. No tutoring page, including this one, is a safe basis for a two-year plan on that.

Do the published Chemistry rates differ between these neighbourhoods?+

No. The bands are city-wide: EdFlik from AED 45 to 65 and Tutopiya from AED 33 to 52 at the budget end, AED 150 to 300 for qualified online tuition on Bestimate's 2026 table, Unitors publishing IB from AED 200, specialist provision at AED 200 to 450 or more, TutorChase at AED 270, in-home at AED 180 to 500 including travel, and BartyED at AED 650. All read October 2026 and all theirs rather than ours. What varies is which band suits the job, not where you live.

What is the step up from IGCSE Chemistry 0620 to the Diploma?+

Mostly in organic chemistry and in the expectation of reasoning rather than recall, and it is considerably larger from the Core tier than from Extended. Mole calculations and organic basics introduced at IGCSE have to be secure rather than familiar, and students who passed 0620 on recall find the Diploma's explanation questions unfamiliar territory. The summer before Year 12 is the only window with no competing deadline, which makes it the cheapest place to close the gap rather than discovering it in October.

How quickly can a Higher Level Chemistry specialist be matched?+

Usually quickly for Chemistry, which has a wider specialist pool than Higher Level Physics. Where a particular combination is scarce we say so rather than putting a general science tutor in the slot and charging for the hour, and the honest options are to wait, to begin with a related specialist on a clearly stated interim basis, or not to book. Because delivery is online rather than by somebody driving between these districts, the pool is every available Higher Level Chemistry specialist rather than the few who would travel here.
