IB MYP Tutor in Dubai Creek Harbour

Most families hiring an IB MYP tutor in Dubai Creek Harbour are spending money on the wrong thing, and not because they chose badly. MYP grades come from criteria marked out of eight, not from percentages, so an hour spent revising content moves nothing if the marks are being lost on criterion C. This page sets out what the Dubai market charges, which criteria the spend actually moves, and where MYP budgets reliably leak. Lessons run one-to-one online on Gulf Standard Time.

  • Priced against published market rates, each attributed to the provider that published it
  • Matched to the subject group and the criterion losing marks, not to a year number
  • Lessons are live online one-to-one; IB Gram makes no UAE home visits
  • One free trial lesson per student before any payment or card details

IB & IGCSE in Dubai Creek Harbour

Why MYP tutoring money goes astray

The Middle Years Programme is assessed by criteria, not by percentages. Each subject carries four criteria, labelled A to D, and each is marked out of eight. The four add to thirty-two, and the school converts that total into a grade from one to seven using published boundaries. A student can know the content thoroughly and still sit at a four, because the marks are leaking from a criterion that has nothing to do with recall. In mathematics that criterion is often investigating patterns or communicating. In sciences it is frequently processing and evaluating. In language and literature it is usually organising.

That is why MYP tutoring budgets leak. A Creek Harbour family sees a four on a report, buys weekly content revision, and the grade does not move, because nobody identified which of the four criteria was costing the marks. Twelve hours of competent teaching gets spent on criterion A when the problem sat in criterion C the whole time. The spend was not wasted through incompetence; it was aimed at the wrong target because the report did not make the target visible and nobody asked the school for the criterion breakdown.

So the first thing worth paying for is diagnosis, and it costs almost nothing. Ask the school for the most recent criterion-level marks: A out of eight, B out of eight, C out of eight, D out of eight, per subject. Most MYP schools record exactly that and will share it. With those four numbers in front of a tutor, the first session becomes targeted rather than exploratory, and the number of hours needed drops rather than rises. Without them, any tutor is guessing for the first month, and you are paying for the guess.

Geography is the second cost factor, and in Dubai Creek Harbour it is a sharp one. The community contains no private school, so every secondary pupil commutes out: across the Ras Al Khor crossing to Dubai Festival City, down Al Khail Road into Sobha Hartland and Nad Al Sheba, or over the Creek to Al Jaddaf. A visiting tutor must be paid for that travel. Published in-home rates in Dubai run from AED 180 to AED 350 on Bestimate's table and from AED 200 to AED 500 from home-tutor providers, against AED 150 to AED 300 for a qualified tutor online. A real share of the gap is time in a car.

IB Gram does not send tutors to homes in Dubai Creek Harbour or anywhere else in the UAE. Tuition for UAE families is one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time; home visiting is a service we operate only in India. That removes the travel line from the cost and widens the pool of tutors who have actually taught your child's subject group in the Middle Years Programme, which for MYP specifically matters more than it does for a linear examined course.

What follows is the cost case in detail: the published market rates with their sources, the four criteria per subject group and what each one actually rewards, why an MYP five is not a percentage, what the Personal Project is worth paying for early, and the honest arithmetic of paying for MYP support now against paying more in Year 12.

At a glance

  • Four criteria per subject, each marked out of eight, totalling thirty-two before conversion
  • Grades run one to seven from published boundaries, not from percentages
  • Ask the school for criterion-level marks before buying any hours
  • Creek Harbour has no school inside it, so a visiting tutor's travel is a real cost
  • Market rates: AED 150-300 online qualified, AED 180-500 in-home visiting
  • Lessons are online one-to-one; IB Gram does not visit UAE addresses
IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Creek Harbour families need MYP support at three distinct stages, and the money behaves differently at each. These are the stages we cover.

MYP 1-3Ages 11-14 · Years 7-9

Middle Years Programme, the early years

Eight subject groups taught with an inquiry framework, criterion-assessed internally. There is no external examination, so the grade is built entirely from classroom tasks. The habits that matter most are stated criteria awareness and the ability to read a task sheet and work out which criterion it is assessing before starting.

In Dubai these years also carry the mandatory UAE subjects. Arabic, Islamic Education and Social or Moral Studies run in all Dubai private schools alongside the licensed international curriculum, and KHDA requires separate classes for Arab and non-Arab pupils in Arabic as a first language, Islamic Education and Social Studies. Families budgeting for tutoring should count those periods into the week first; adding a fourth evening commitment to an already full schedule is a common way to spend money without result.

MYP 4-5Ages 14-16 · Years 10-11

Middle Years Programme, Years 4 and 5

The two years where the criteria sharpen and the Personal Project arrives. Subject criteria become more demanding in the higher achievement bands, and the gap between a five and a six is usually about independence and critical thinking rather than about coverage. Some schools offer optional on-screen eAssessment and ePortfolios leading to the MYP Certificate.

Around Dubai Creek Harbour, several schools run the Middle Years Programme to Year 11 before entering the Diploma, while neighbouring schools run IGCSE instead. That matters for a family comparing notes with friends in the same tower: a Year 11 at one school is working towards criterion-assessed tasks, and a Year 11 at another is sitting Cambridge or Pearson written papers. The tutoring is not the same job.

PPAges 15-16 · MYP Year 5

The MYP Personal Project

An independent project with a product and a written report, supervised in school and assessed against criteria covering planning, applying skills and reflecting. It is the closest thing the Middle Years Programme has to the Diploma's Extended Essay, and it is the component where early support is worth most and late support is worth least.

The supervisor is a member of school staff and the work must be the student's own. A tutor may discuss scope, ask questions about the plan, explain what a criterion is asking for and give feedback on the student's own draft. A tutor may not write it, restructure it to a standard, or supply the product. Providers in this market sell completed Internal Assessments; that is a malpractice trigger and the consequence lands on the candidate.

DPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

Looking ahead to the Diploma

The Diploma is examined by timed written papers plus internally assessed components. A student arriving from the Middle Years Programme has rarely sat a ninety-minute written paper, because most MYP years have no external examination. The gap that opens in Year 12 is about pace, method-writing for an unknown marker, and the absence of a resubmission.

This is the single strongest financial argument for MYP support. Closing a criterion-level gap in MYP Year 4 costs a handful of hours. Discovering the same gap in the first term of the Diploma, with twenty per cent of a grade sitting on an Internal Assessment and a May session approaching, costs considerably more. We do not publish IB session dates on this page; the IB's own site blocks automated checking and your school's coordinator holds the authoritative calendar.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

The Middle Years Programme has eight subject groups. These are the ones Creek Harbour families most often buy support for, with the criterion that most commonly costs the marks in each.

Mathematics

Standard and Extended · MYP 1-5

Criteria cover knowing and understanding, investigating patterns, communicating, and applying mathematics in real-life contexts. Investigating patterns is where the marks go, because generalising a rule and justifying it is a different skill from computing correctly, and it is rarely taught explicitly.

Sciences

Integrated, then biology, chemistry and physics · MYP 1-5

Criteria cover knowing and understanding, inquiring and designing, processing and evaluating, and reflecting on the impacts of science. Processing and evaluating is the usual leak: a student collects data correctly and then does not discuss validity, anomalies or improvement.

Language and literature

MYP 1-5

Criteria cover analysing, organising, producing text, and using language. Organising is the common loss, because a strong argument delivered in a structure the reader cannot follow caps the band. Essay planning is the cheapest intervention available in this subject.

Individuals and societies

MYP 1-5

Criteria cover knowing and understanding, investigating, communicating, and thinking critically. Thinking critically is where a six becomes a seven: using sources to build an argument rather than to illustrate a narrative, and recognising a source's limitations.

Language acquisition

Phases 1-6 · MYP 1-5

Criteria cover listening, reading, speaking and writing. The phase placement matters more than the year group, and a student moved up a phase mid-year frequently loses marks in speaking before the other three catch up.

Design

MYP 1-5

Criteria cover inquiring and analysing, developing ideas, creating the solution, and evaluating. Design is the subject where documentation carries the marks: a good product with thin process evidence scores below a modest product fully documented.

Arts

Visual and performing · MYP 1-5

Criteria cover knowing and understanding, developing skills, thinking creatively, and responding. The process journal is the assessed artefact as much as the work itself, and students who keep it weekly outperform those who assemble it at the end.

Physical and health education

MYP 1-5

Criteria cover knowing and understanding, planning for performance, applying and performing, and reflecting and improving performance. The written and reflective components are where marks are available to students who are not the strongest performers.

The Personal Project

MYP Year 5

An independent project with a product and a report, assessed on planning, applying skills and reflecting. Scope control decides the outcome: a project narrow enough to finish and document beats an ambitious one abandoned halfway.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three ways Creek Harbour families buy MYP support, all delivered online one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time. The cheapest effective option is usually the shortest one, which is not what most providers recommend.

Criterion-targeted short block

Four to six sessions aimed at one named criterion in one subject, booked after the school has supplied the criterion-level marks. This is the format that produces the best return per dirham, because the target is identified before any hour is paid for and the finish line is visible from the start.

  • Begins with the school's A to D marks out of eight
  • One criterion, one subject, a defined number of sessions
  • Written note after each session naming the next piece of work
  • Ends when the next school task shows the criterion has moved

Weekly subject-group support

One hour a week across a term for a student carrying a genuine content gap as well as a criterion gap, usually after a mid-year move between schools or curricula. More expensive than a short block and justified when the gap is broad rather than specific.

  • Same weekly slot chosen for the worst normal weekday
  • Planned against the school's own unit sequence
  • Criterion marks reviewed at each school reporting point
  • Reduced to a short block as soon as the gap narrows

Personal Project coaching, early

Scope and planning support in MYP Year 5 before the product is begun, plus criterion feedback on the student's own drafts. Bought early it is a handful of hours. Bought late it becomes expensive and is also the point at which the honesty line gets tested, so we set it out in writing beforehand.

  • Scope narrowed until the project can be finished and documented
  • Criteria explained in plain terms before the plan is written
  • Feedback on the student's own draft, never writing or restructuring
  • A session note recording whose work was in front of us

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Dubai Creek Harbour

01

What MYP tutoring costs in Dubai, cheapest first

Start at the bottom of the market, because for the Middle Years Programme the bottom is more often adequate than it is for an examined course. Budget online tutoring in Dubai is advertised from AED 33 to AED 52 by Tutopiya and from AED 45 to AED 65 by EdFlik, which usually means a tutor who studied the subject recently. For a Year 7 or Year 8 student who needs a concept unblocked, that can be entirely sufficient, and buying a specialist at four times the rate would be waste.

The tier above is where MYP support usually belongs. A qualified subject tutor online in Dubai is quoted at roughly AED 150 to AED 300 an hour, with Unitors listing IGCSE from AED 150 and IB from AED 200. What the extra money buys in an MYP context is specific and checkable: a tutor who can read a criterion descriptor, say which band a piece of work currently sits in, and explain the difference between that band and the one above. A tutor who cannot do that is being paid a specialist rate for general teaching.

Above that sit specialist rates of roughly AED 200 to AED 450 and above, with TutorChase at AED 270 and Bestimate's specialist band at AED 200 to AED 450 or more, and a premium tier where BartyED publishes AED 650. For the Middle Years Programme, those rates are rarely the right purchase, with one exception: Personal Project supervision support in Year 5, where experience of the criteria genuinely matters. Every figure here belongs to the provider named and was read in October 2026. None of it is IB Gram's price list.

The in-home line is the one Creek Harbour geography makes expensive. Visiting rates run from AED 180 to AED 350 on Bestimate's table and from AED 200 to AED 500 from home-tutor providers, and a real portion of the premium is travel across Ras Al Khor or down Al Khail Road at the school-run hour. IB Gram does not visit UAE addresses at all, so that line does not exist in our model. We publish no hourly figure here, because the right number depends on subject group, criterion and stage, and one printed rate would mislead most readers. The free trial lesson comes first.

02

Where the money actually leaks

  • Content revision cannot fix a criterion C or D problem, however good the teaching
  • Ask the school for A to D marks out of eight before buying any hours; it is free
  • A late session delivers fewer usable minutes at the same hourly price
  • Fix one shared skill in one subject before buying support in three

The commonest waste in MYP tutoring is buying content revision for a criterion problem. A report shows a four in sciences. The family buys weekly science support. The tutor teaches the unit content competently for a term. The grade stays at four, because the marks were leaking from processing and evaluating, where the student collects data correctly and then writes nothing about anomalies, validity or improvement. No amount of content teaching reaches that. One session on how to write an evaluation paragraph does.

The second leak is buying hours before asking the school for the criterion breakdown. Most MYP schools record each criterion out of eight and will share it on request. Those four numbers per subject convert a vague worry into a specific target, and they are free. A family that buys twelve hours first and asks for the marks later has paid for a month of exploration that a single email would have made unnecessary.

The third is session timing, which is a cost question rather than a convenience one. A Creek Harbour student commuting from Nad Al Sheba is not home until well after 16:30, and a session at 18:30 after homework delivers materially fewer useful minutes than the same hour at 17:00. If you are paying a fixed rate per hour, the usable fraction of that hour is the real unit price. A weekend morning session at the same rate is cheaper in those terms than any weekday evening.

The fourth is buying support in three subjects at once because the report showed three fours. In the Middle Years Programme the criteria repeat across subject groups in recognisable forms: organising in language and literature, communicating in mathematics, and documenting process in design are all versions of the same underlying skill. Fixing it in one subject frequently moves the other two without a single hour being bought for them, and that is the most reliable saving available in this market.

03

The four criteria, out of eight, and what each one rewards

Here is the thing no competitor in this market publishes: the criteria by letter, per subject group, with what each one actually rewards. It is the specification for the entire grade, and a parent who has read it can hold a useful conversation with both the school and a tutor. Every subject group has four criteria, each marked from zero to eight, summing to thirty-two before the school converts to a one-to-seven grade.

Read across the table and the pattern becomes obvious. Criterion A is almost always knowledge and understanding, and it is the one most families assume is the problem. Criteria B, C and D are process, communication and evaluation in various forms, and together they carry twenty-four of the thirty-two marks. Three quarters of the available marks are therefore for things that are not recall, which is the single most useful fact a parent can hold when deciding what to buy.

It also explains why the same student can score differently across subjects that feel equally hard. A student strong on recall and weak on written structure will sit higher in mathematics criterion A than in language and literature criterion B, and the report will show two different grades for what is really one skill gap. Identifying the shared skill is what turns three tutoring purchases into one.

The practical move is to ask the school for the criterion marks, find the lowest letter across subjects, and start there. Not the lowest grade, the lowest letter. That is where the marks are, and it is usually cheaper to address than a content gap because the skill is teachable in a handful of sessions rather than a term.

04

Why an MYP five is not sixty-two per cent

  • The grade is a converted sum of four criteria, not an average percentage
  • Boundaries are unevenly spaced, so one criterion can be worth a whole grade
  • A single low letter among three high ones is the cheapest situation to fix
  • Ask for both the criterion marks and the school's boundary table

Parents arriving in the Middle Years Programme from a percentage-based system frequently try to convert, and the conversion does not exist in a useful form. The grade comes from the sum of four criteria out of eight, converted through boundaries the school publishes, and the boundaries are not evenly spaced. Moving from a five to a six can require two extra marks in one place and four in another depending on where the current marks sit, which is why a single criterion can be worth a whole grade.

The practical consequence for a tutoring budget is large. If a student sits at seven out of eight on criteria A, B and D and at three on criterion C, the whole grade is being held down by one letter, and two marks on that letter may lift the grade. That is a short block of work with a clear finish line. If the same student sits at five across all four criteria, there is no single lever, and the honest answer is a longer and more expensive programme or a decision to accept the grade and spend the money elsewhere.

This is also why comparing a child's MYP grade with a neighbour's IGCSE grade is not informative, even for two Year 11 students living in the same Creek Harbour tower. One is a criterion sum converted through internal boundaries; the other is a written paper against a published mark scheme and national grade boundaries. Families compare them constantly and draw conclusions from a comparison that does not hold.

Ask the school two questions and the picture clears. First, the criterion marks out of eight for each subject. Second, the boundary table used for conversion. With both in hand, a tutor can say what two marks on a named criterion are worth in grade terms, and you can decide whether that is worth buying. Without them, nobody in the conversation knows what the money would buy.

05

The Personal Project: buy early, and know where the line is

  • Scope control before starting prevents the failure that late help cannot fix
  • Documented process carries heavy weight in the criteria, not just the product
  • A tutor gives feedback on the student's own draft and never writes it
  • Two or three sessions at the start beat twelve at the end

The Personal Project in MYP Year 5 is an independent project with a product and a written report, supervised by a member of school staff and assessed against criteria covering planning, applying skills and reflecting. It is the closest the Middle Years Programme comes to the Diploma's Extended Essay, and the economics of supporting it are unusually clear: bought early it is a handful of hours, bought late it becomes an expensive salvage operation.

The reason is scope. Almost every Personal Project that goes wrong goes wrong because it was too ambitious to finish and document in the time available. A student who wanted to build something substantial arrives in the final weeks with an incomplete product and no process evidence, and the criteria reward documented process heavily. Two hours of scope conversation before the project begins prevents the outcome that twelve hours at the end cannot repair.

This is also the component where the academic honesty line gets tested, so we put it in writing before starting. A tutor may discuss scope, ask questions about a plan, explain what a criterion is asking for in plain language, and give feedback on the student's own draft. A tutor may not write the report, restructure it to a standard, or supply the product. There are providers in this market selling completed Internal Assessments outright; that is a malpractice trigger and the consequence falls on the candidate rather than the seller. We keep a session note recording whose work was in front of us.

For a Creek Harbour family the practical advice is to buy two or three sessions in the term the project is introduced, not in the term it is due. It is the single best value purchase in the whole programme, and it is almost always bought at the wrong time.

06

Paying now or paying more in Year 12

The strongest financial argument for MYP support has nothing to do with the MYP grade. It is that the Middle Years Programme is internally assessed with revisable tasks and the Diploma is not. Most MYP years have no external examination at all, so a student can reach Year 12 with a strong record and no experience of a ninety-minute written paper marked by someone who has never met them, with no opportunity to resubmit.

What then happens in the first term of the Diploma is predictable. The content is manageable; the pace under timed conditions is not. Method is written for a teacher who already understands the student rather than for an unknown marker. A first assessment comes back well below expectation, the family buys emergency support at specialist rates with a May session approaching, and the cost of the same gap is several times what it would have been in MYP Year 4.

Two MYP components prepare a student directly for this, and both are cheap to strengthen. Investigating patterns in mathematics maps almost exactly onto the Diploma's mathematical Exploration, which is worth twenty per cent of the final maths grade. Processing and evaluating in sciences maps onto the science Internal Assessment. A student who learned to generalise, justify and reflect in Year 10 meets those components already competent. A student whose MYP investigations were completed quickly to a template meets them for the first time with a fifth of a grade attached.

The table sets the two programmes against each other on the things that cost money, which is a comparison families in Creek Harbour make informally all the time and rarely see written down.

Regulators, permits, and what a Creek Harbour parent should check before paying

  • Dubai 2024-25: 227 private schools, 387,441 students, IB at 7% of enrolment
  • KHDA regulates schools and does not approve tutors or tutoring platforms
  • The MoHRE private tuition permit is free for two years, applied for directly
  • No published fine schedule exists, so any quoted amount is unverified
  • The teacher who marks the criteria should not be paid privately by one family

Dubai's private schools are regulated by the Knowledge and Human Development Authority, which u.ae describes as responsible for enhancing and overseeing the quality of private education in the emirate. Dubai had 227 private schools and 387,441 students in 2024-25 across seventeen curricula, with the International Baccalaureate at seven per cent of enrolment, and KHDA confirmed on 22 May 2026 that private school fees would not rise for the 2026-27 academic year. Seven new private schools join for the 2026-27 intake, three of them IB.

None of that is an endorsement of any tutoring provider. A KHDA inspection rating judges a school. IB Gram holds no approval, accreditation, licence or partnership from KHDA, ADEK, SPEA, the Ministry of Education, MoHRE, the International Baccalaureate, Cambridge or Pearson. A KHDA Educational Services Permit is a specific authorisation for training institutes with premises and staff, and we do not hold one. If a provider implies regulator endorsement before taking your money, treat that as a reason to check their other claims.

Tutoring is regulated by permit. The MoHRE private tuition work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023 and is granted free of charge for two years. Eligible applicants include teachers registered in government or private schools, government and private-sector employees, unemployed residents, university students, and school students aged 15 to 18. The route is MoHRE's own Private Tutor Licensing service, with no fee and a stated two working days. Tutoring without a permit attracts fines and penalties under the applicable laws; no fine schedule is published, so no amount appears here.

One boundary specific to the Middle Years Programme. A Creek Harbour parent may consider paying their child's own subject teacher, who also marks the criteria and supervises the Personal Project. ADEK's professional-ethics rules bar Abu Dhabi school staff from paid private tutoring of students enrolled at their own school, and the MoHRE permit's code of conduct also bars serving students affiliated with the tutor's own school. The person assessing the work should not be separately paid by one family in the class.

08

Getting started, and the cheapest honest starting point

  • Start by asking the school for criterion marks and the boundary table; both are free
  • Send subject group, MYP year and two workable windows after the school run
  • One free trial lesson per student, with no payment or card details beforehand
  • Judge the arrangement on the tutor's note about which criterion they would target

The cheapest first step costs nothing. Email the school and ask for the criterion-level marks, A to D out of eight, for the subjects you are worried about, plus the boundary table used to convert them into a grade. Send those to us with the subject group, the MYP year, and two evening windows that survive a normal school run from Creek Harbour. With those numbers the first session is targeted rather than exploratory, and the number of hours needed usually goes down.

Then we match a subject-group specialist and run one free trial lesson in the slot you intend to keep. One trial per student, nothing charged beforehand, no card details required to book it. The tutor writes a short note naming which criterion they would address first and what evidence would show it has moved. That note is the thing to judge the arrangement by, more than the lesson itself.

If no specialist is free in your window we will say so, give a realistic wait, and offer the nearest honest alternative rather than placing whoever is available. The thinnest coverage is in design, arts and language acquisition at specific phases, and in the weeks when Personal Project deadlines cluster. Weekend mornings widen the choice considerably, because the weekday window from 17:00 to 19:00 Gulf Standard Time is the busiest hour in the UAE tutoring day.

Two limits stated plainly. Nobody can promise a grade and this page does not. And nothing here implies that tutoring is required for progression, for the MYP Certificate, for Diploma entry or for UAE Ministry of Education equivalency; those are school and regulatory processes with their own published rules, and the authority rather than a tutoring provider is where to verify them.

Where we tutor

Creek Harbour, the commute and the real cost per useful hour

Where a student goes to school decides when a session can start from Dubai Creek Harbour, and a late session is a more expensive session because less of it works. These are the clusters we schedule around.

Dubai Creek Harbour

Towers and the Creek Beach district, with no private school inside the community. Every secondary pupil commutes, so the realistic first slot is 16:45 and a visiting tutor would be paid for the same journey in reverse.

Al Jaddaf

Immediately across the Creek, with Swiss International Scientific School Dubai in the district. The shortest routine run from Creek Harbour, which makes a 16:30 start achievable and the hour more productive.

Culture Village

Jaddaf Waterfront, sharing the same Creek-side roads and the same school destinations. Scheduling behaves like Al Jaddaf, so families here get more usable minutes from the same money.

Sobha Hartland and Mohammed Bin Rashid City

North London Collegiate School Dubai and Hartland International School draw from the Creek. The southbound Al Khail Road run at the school-run hour pushes a realistic session towards 17:00.

Nad Al Sheba and Meydan

GEMS Modern Academy and neighbouring schools sit here. The longest routine commute from Creek Harbour and the cluster where a weekend morning buys the most useful minutes per dirham.

Dubai Festival City

Universal American School Dubai and Deira International School are the nearest secondary options. One crossing, so the cost risk is a single traffic incident rather than a long journey.

Business Bay and Downtown Dubai

No large private secondary school in either district, so pupils commute outward as Creek Harbour pupils do. Parents working here often take the free trial themselves before committing a budget.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in Dubai Creek Harbour

Al Jaddaf and Dubai Festival City

The nearest cluster to Dubai Creek Harbour, with the shortest journeys and therefore the earliest usable session slots. International curricula sit side by side here, so a Creek Harbour household can have one child on MYP criteria and another on Cambridge papers in two schools minutes apart.

  • Swiss International Scientific School Dubai
  • Universal American School Dubai
  • Deira International School
  • Dubai English Speaking College

Sobha Hartland, Meydan and Nad Al Sheba

The southern corridor where several schools run the Middle Years Programme before the Diploma. This cluster generates most of the MYP-to-Diploma transition work we see from Creek Harbour, because students arrive in Year 12 without timed written paper experience.

  • North London Collegiate School Dubai
  • Hartland International School
  • GEMS Modern Academy
  • Kent College Dubai
  • Collegiate American School

Schools are named only as context for the education market around Dubai Creek Harbour. IB Gram has no affiliation, partnership or endorsement arrangement with any of them, and none has reviewed this page.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Get the criterion marks from the school

A to D, each out of eight, for the subjects in question, plus the boundary table used to convert them. Both are usually recorded and shared on request, and both are free. They turn a vague worry into a specific target and they reduce the number of hours you will need to buy.

  2. 02

Find the lowest letter, not the lowest grade

Across subjects, the same letter often sits low in several places, because criteria repeat as recognisable forms of the same skill. Fixing organising in language and literature frequently moves communicating in mathematics without a single hour being bought for it.

  3. 03

Fix a slot the commute allows

Tell us the school and the genuine time the student is home in Creek Harbour, plus which weekday carries the co-curricular fixture. A later session delivers fewer usable minutes at the same hourly price, so the earliest workable slot is also the cheapest one.

  4. 04

Run the free trial and read the note

One trial lesson per student, live and one-to-one in the intended slot. The tutor writes a short note naming the criterion they would target first and the evidence that would show movement. Judge the match on that note rather than on how the hour felt.

  5. 05

Buy a block with a finish line

Four to six sessions on one named criterion in one subject, ending when the next school task shows the criterion has moved. A block with a stated endpoint costs less and works better than an open weekly arrangement nobody reviews.

  6. 06

Review at the school's next reporting point

The school's own criterion marks are the checkpoint. If the targeted letter has not moved, the plan changes or the tutor does. Replacement inside the same week is possible because the match was never bounded by driving distance from Ras Al Khor.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

We ask for the criterion marks first

Before any hour is booked. Four numbers out of eight per subject convert a vague worry into a specific target, and they come free from the school. A provider that starts selling hours before asking for them is selling you a month of exploration.

Short blocks with a finish line

Four to six sessions on one named criterion, ending when the next school task shows movement. It is less revenue and better value, and we recommend it over an open weekly arrangement whenever the criterion marks show a single low letter.

No travel line in the price

Published in-home rates in Dubai run from AED 180 to AED 500, and a real share of that is time spent crossing Ras Al Khor or sitting on Al Khail Road. IB Gram does not visit UAE addresses, so the premium does not exist and the tutor pool is not bounded by one drive.

Matched to the subject group and the letter

Not to a year number. A tutor who can read a criterion descriptor, place a piece of work in a band and explain the difference to the band above is doing the job. One who teaches unit content competently without that is being paid a specialist rate for general teaching.

Every figure sourced and dated

Each AED number on this page names the provider that published it and the month it was read. No IB Gram hourly rate is printed, because the correct figure depends on subject group, criterion and stage, and one printed number would mislead most readers.

The Personal Project line in writing

Scope help, criteria explained, feedback on the student's own draft. Never writing, never restructuring, never supplying the product. We record whose work was in front of us at each session, because that is what a school actually asks for if a question arises.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Dubai Creek Harbour: your questions answered

How much does MYP tutoring cost for a family in Dubai Creek Harbour?+

The published market spread is wide. Budget online tutoring is advertised from AED 33 to AED 52 by Tutopiya and AED 45 to AED 65 by EdFlik; a qualified subject tutor online is quoted at roughly AED 150 to AED 300, with Unitors listing IB from AED 200; specialist rates run from AED 200 to AED 450 or more. Those figures belong to the providers named and were read in October 2026. For most Middle Years Programme work the qualified tier is the right purchase, and the specialist tier is justified mainly for Personal Project support.

Why has weekly MYP revision not moved my child's grade at all?+

Most likely because the marks are leaking from a criterion that content revision cannot reach. Every MYP subject has four criteria marked out of eight, and criteria B, C and D carry twenty-four of the thirty-two marks between them. Those are process, communication and evaluation skills rather than recall. A student can know the unit thoroughly and still sit at a four because no evaluation paragraph was written. Ask the school for the criterion marks, find the low letter, and target that instead.

What should I ask my child's MYP school for before I pay for any tutoring?+

Two things, both free. First, the criterion-level marks for each subject: A out of eight, B out of eight, C out of eight, D out of eight. Most MYP schools record exactly that. Second, the boundary table the school uses to convert the thirty-two-mark total into a grade from one to seven. With both in hand, a tutor can tell you what two marks on a named criterion are worth in grade terms, and you can judge whether that is worth buying before committing any money.

Does an MYP grade of five convert into a percentage I can compare?+

Not usefully. The grade is the sum of four criteria out of eight, converted through boundaries the school publishes, and those boundaries are not evenly spaced. Moving from a five to a six might need two extra marks in one position and four in another. That is also why comparing an MYP grade with a neighbour's IGCSE grade is uninformative, even between two Year 11 students in the same Creek Harbour tower: one is a converted criterion sum, the other a written paper against national boundaries.

Which MYP criterion is most often the one costing marks?+

It varies by subject group in a consistent way. In mathematics it is usually investigating patterns, because generalising and justifying a rule is a different skill from computing correctly and is rarely taught explicitly. In sciences it is processing and evaluating, where data is collected well and then discussed thinly. In language and literature it is organising, where a sound argument in an unfollowable structure caps the band. Those three are versions of the same underlying skill, which is why fixing one often moves the others.

Is it cheaper to buy support in one subject or in all the weak ones?+

One, almost always, and then reassess. MYP criteria repeat across subject groups as recognisable forms of the same skill: organising in language and literature, communicating in mathematics, and documenting process in design are all structured communication. A student who learns to plan and structure written work in one subject frequently gains marks in two others without an hour being bought for them. Buying three subjects at once because the report showed three fours is the most common avoidable cost in this market.

When is the right time to pay for Personal Project help?+

In the term the project is introduced, not the term it is due. Almost every Personal Project that goes wrong does so because the scope was too ambitious to finish and document, and the criteria reward documented process heavily. Two or three hours of scope and planning conversation at the start prevents an outcome that twelve hours at the end cannot repair. It is the best value purchase in the whole programme and it is usually bought several months too late.

Where exactly is the line on Personal Project support that a Dubai school would accept?+

No, and you should decline any offer. A tutor may discuss scope, ask questions about the plan, explain what a criterion is asking for in plain language, and give feedback on the student's own draft. A tutor may not write the report, restructure it to a standard, or supply the product. Providers in this market sell completed Internal Assessments outright; that is a malpractice trigger and the consequence falls on the candidate. We keep a session note recording whose work was in front of us at each session.

Will a tutor come to our Creek Harbour apartment for MYP sessions?+

Not from IB Gram. We deliver one-to-one tuition for UAE families online over live video on Gulf Standard Time, and we do not send tutors to any UAE address; home visiting is a service we operate only in India. Dubai agencies that do visit publish rates of roughly AED 180 to AED 350 on Bestimate's table and AED 200 to AED 500 from home-tutor providers, and a real share of that premium is travel. Removing it also widens the pool of tutors who have taught your child's actual subject group.

What time should an MYP session start from Dubai Creek Harbour?+

As early as the commute allows, because a late session delivers fewer usable minutes at the same hourly price. A student at a Dubai Festival City school is generally home by 16:00 if the Ras Al Khor crossing is clear, making 16:45 workable. Sobha Hartland sits better at 17:00 and Nad Al Sheba at 17:15 or later. Choose the slot for the worst normal weekday rather than the best, and take a weekend morning if one is available, because it is the cheapest hour in real terms.

My child is moving from MYP into the Diploma next year. Is support worth buying now?+

Usually yes, and for a specific reason. Most MYP years have no external examination, so a student can reach Year 12 with a strong record and no experience of a timed written paper marked by someone who has never met them, with no resubmission available. Two MYP components prepare them directly: investigating patterns in mathematics maps onto the Diploma's Exploration, worth twenty per cent of the maths grade, and processing and evaluating in sciences maps onto the science Internal Assessment. Both are cheap to strengthen now.

Which schools near Dubai Creek Harbour run the Middle Years Programme?+

No private school sits inside Dubai Creek Harbour itself. Swiss International Scientific School Dubai is immediately across the Creek in Al Jaddaf, and Universal American School Dubai is in Dubai Festival City. South along Al Khail Road, North London Collegiate School Dubai in Sobha Hartland and GEMS Modern Academy in Nad Al Sheba both run IB programmes. KHDA reported the International Baccalaureate at seven per cent of Dubai private enrolment in 2024-25. Schools are named here as market context only, with no affiliation implied.

Do we also need to budget for Arabic and Islamic Education alongside MYP?+

Count them into the week before adding anything. Arabic, Islamic Education and Social or Moral Studies are mandatory in all Dubai private schools regardless of the licensed international curriculum, and KHDA requires separate classes for Arab and non-Arab pupils in Arabic as a first language, Islamic Education and Social Studies. KHDA also calculates mandatory-subject instructional time on a forty-minute lesson unit. A student already carrying those periods plus MYP subjects has limited evening capacity, and overloading it is a reliable way to spend money without result.

Is IB Gram accredited by the International Baccalaureate or by KHDA?+

No. IB Gram holds no approval, accreditation, licence or partnership from the International Baccalaureate, KHDA, ADEK, SPEA, the Ministry of Education, MoHRE, Cambridge or Pearson. KHDA is Dubai's Knowledge and Human Development Authority and is responsible for enhancing and overseeing the quality of private education in the emirate; it regulates and inspects schools. A KHDA Educational Services Permit applies to training institutes with premises and staff. Any provider implying regulator endorsement before taking payment is giving you a reason to check their other claims.

What happens if no MYP specialist is free in our evening slot?+

We say so, give a realistic wait, and offer the nearest honest alternative rather than placing whoever is available. Coverage is thinnest in design, arts and language acquisition at particular phases, and in the weeks when Personal Project deadlines cluster across schools. The alternatives are a different time slot, a shorter block with a specialist whose availability is limited, or starting on the shared skill in a subject where a tutor is free. Weekend mornings widen the choice more than any other scheduling change.

Ask the school for four numbers before you spend anything

If you are looking for an IB MYP tutor in Dubai Creek Harbour, the cheapest useful step costs nothing: ask the school for the criterion marks, A to D out of eight, and the boundary table used to convert them. Send those with the subject group, the MYP year and two evening windows that survive a normal school run. We will match a subject-group specialist, run one free trial lesson in the slot you intend to keep, and recommend a short block with a finish line rather than an open weekly arrangement. Lessons are one-to-one and online on Gulf Standard Time. No grade promises, no regulator claims, every AED figure attributed.
